- 0:01Developing external power through the use of technology
- 0:05has several unexpected or unintended consequences.
- 0:10One of these, of course, is to give us powers of observation
- 0:13and action that were not available to us through the
- 0:17normal progression of physical, vital and mental development.
- 0:22In order to develop such powers, a corresponding inner
- 0:26development is of course also required, as it requires a power
- 0:31of insight, intuition, imagination, perseverance,
- 0:36reasoning, et cetera. Thus, the development of any
- 0:41external power has a corresponding inner movement
- 0:44associated with it. At the same time, we tend to
- 0:48become reliant on these external powers, and in some cases the
- 0:53acuity and natural capacity is left to atrophy or erode.
- 0:58For example, with the development of calculators and
- 1:03the development of powers of AI in our phones and computers,
- 1:07much of humanity has stopped trying to do mathematical
- 1:10calculation. Mentally, the prodigious feats
- 1:14of mental math are very much lost to most of us, as we find
- 1:19it easier to simply ask our computer or phone to tell us the
- 1:23answer. It can be reasoned that by
- 1:27taking away what is essentially a basic and time consuming task,
- 1:32we are freeing up our concentration and mental
- 1:34capacity to take on more interesting or expansive tasks.
- 1:40At least we have the opportunity to do so even if we fail to
- 1:45exercise it. Doctor Delal cites a particular
- 1:50instance, the Development Tools to enhance visual power with the
- 1:55corresponding weakening of the eyesight.
- 1:58There may be a general correspondence between the two,
- 2:02but not a causal relationship. The microscope and the telescope
- 2:07provide visual powers into areas that humanity was previously
- 2:12unable to explore fully, but it is not the use of these things
- 2:18which has resulted in the erosion of eyesight in the
- 2:20youth. There are different factors that
- 2:23cause the diminution of eyesight, such as increased UV
- 2:28ray exposure due to weakening of the ozone protective layer, new
- 2:32forms of radiation, new demands being made on the visual sense,
- 2:37including the use of computer monitors, television sets and
- 2:41mobile phones, as well as increased demands for the use of
- 2:46the organs of sight for fine detail.
- 2:49As our lives become more complex and a greater demand is placed
- 2:53on focusing the eyesight, the two events occur at a similar
- 2:58time in our evolutionary cycle but may be coincidental to one
- 3:03another. Similarly, the rise of
- 3:06autoimmune diseases can be seen to take place side by side with
- 3:11our increased ability to prevent or treat disease conditions
- 3:15through development of pharmaceutical drugs or through
- 3:18surgery and advanced therapies that rely, for instance, on
- 3:22laser technology, radiation or other means.
- 3:26In some cases, there may be a direct causative relationship
- 3:31due to unintended or known but unavoidable consequences of the
- 3:36treatment modality on the body. Such is the case with the use of
- 3:40chemotherapy, for instance, which is known to have serious
- 3:44side effects but is nevertheless the best tool available to
- 3:49modern medicine to treat certain forms of cancers.
- 3:53In other cases, we may again find coincidence, but not
- 3:58causality. Causality may be due to the vast
- 4:02increase in toxic substances in the earth, air and water.
- 4:07The contamination of our environment.
- 4:10Our increased use of radiation in the world, including the
- 4:13residual effects of the nuclear weapons testing that occurred in
- 4:17many parts of the world and which is left behind.
- 4:20Residual effects and radioactive energy, as well as the increased
- 4:26exposure to UV radiation from the sun due to the
- 4:30aforementioned weakening of the ozone layer.
- 4:33The development of synthetically developed foods and the
- 4:37increased reliance on factory farming, which uses growth
- 4:41hormones, antibiotics and other chemical additives to create our
- 4:46modern, dramatically deficient food supply which provides in
- 4:51many cases less bio active nutrition while promoting
- 4:55obesity and dysfunction of various internal organs.
- 5:00The climate change that humanity has created as a result of the
- 5:04industrial revolution also has as one of its impacts increasing
- 5:09both the range and potency of various diseases and disease
- 5:14vectors, and our modern worldwide mobility enhances the
- 5:19potential for the spread of pandemic diseases.
- 5:24Add to this the increase in stress with the enhanced speed
- 5:28of modern life and the demands made on people, and we have a
- 5:33recipe for weakening immune response that correlates in time
- 5:38with the increased technologies to treat disease but is not
- 5:43necessarily causatively related. The development of external
- 5:49powers has both its advantages and its disadvantages.
- 5:53In terms of our inner development.
- 5:56The challenge is to recognize that all external power must
- 6:00proceed from and be controlled by a corresponding growth in the
- 6:05inner power, and that is the area of development we are
- 6:09called upon to understand and undertake at the present time.
- 6:15It is also likely that as the evolution takes place, we begin
- 6:20to place less reliance on the external physical senses.
- 6:25The development of external powers of observation based on
- 6:29technology corresponds to an inner development of
- 6:33consciousness that can and eventually must provide new
- 6:37methods of observation and understanding, Doctor de Lal
- 6:43writes Quote. Power can be derived from
- 6:47external things or from our own being.
- 6:50For example, power for fighting illness can come from the use of
- 6:54external means such as medicines, or it can be summoned
- 6:58from within in the body's innate power of resistance.
- 7:02Until now, humanity, in its efforts for gaining more and
- 7:06more power, has endeavoured to obtain power in different areas,
- 7:11predominantly from without. Through technological and
- 7:14scientific developments, development of the powers within
- 7:19us has received far less attention, so that internal
- 7:23power has not only lagged far behind external power, but has
- 7:28also deteriorated in some respects.
- 7:31Thus, whereas great strides have been made in combating disease
- 7:35with the aid of external means, namely more powerful drugs and
- 7:40more advanced technology, there is an increasing prevalence of
- 7:44diseases related to the body's own immune system, such as
- 7:48cancer, arthritis, AIDS, and others, indicating a
- 7:54deterioration of the body's own natural mechanisms of healing.
- 7:59Apropos of the decrease in personal power that has resulted
- 8:03with the increase in technology, Joseph C Pierce writes in his
- 8:07book The Bond of Power, publisher Dutton, 1981 quote.
- 8:14We have long spoken of our technological devices as
- 8:18extensions of personal power. In practice, though, every
- 8:22technological achievement really undermines, erodes, even
- 8:27replaces in one way or another our ability.
- 8:31It extends and enhances. End Quote, Doctor Delal
- 8:35continues. As an example, Pierce states
- 8:39that whereas we have extended our powers of aided vision
- 8:42through technological devices such as the telescope and the
- 8:46microscope, our own visual power has deteriorated.
- 8:51Thus, in Texas in 1900, about 12% of children at the age of
- 8:57eight had short sightedness. In 1962, even at the age of 6,
- 9:04approximately 80% of the children were found to have
- 9:08short sightedness. End Quote.
