- 0:16Speaker 2: One of the world's biggest AI bosses now says AI
- 0:20Speaker 2: has matched human capability. NVIDIA's CEO, Jensen Huang, says ChatGPT's
- 0:24Speaker 2: latest model, which is known as Astra, is so impressive
- 0:27Speaker 2: that we've reached the landmark of AGI, or Artificial General Intelligence.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Paul Spain is a futurist, and he's the CEO also
- 0:34Speaker 2: at Guerrilla Technology. And with us, hi, Paul.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Hi, how are you doing, Heather?
- 0:38Speaker 2: I'm well, thanks, mate. Are you convinced that we've reached AGI?
- 0:43Speaker 3: Well, the short answer is no. I think you've got
- 0:46Speaker 3: to look at this through the lens of, you know,
- 0:49Speaker 3: who is Jensen? What's his role? And, you know, he
- 0:54Speaker 3: runs the biggest company on the planet, and their role
- 0:57Speaker 3: is to sell the hardware that makes AI possible. And
- 1:00Speaker 3: that only happens if we keep getting excited and hyped
- 1:03Speaker 3: about where it's going. That's how his share price stays high.
- 1:07Speaker 3: That's how open AI works. and anthropic end up having
- 1:11Speaker 3: sort of big IPOs. So I think this is part
- 1:15Speaker 3: of trying to keep it exciting and hype for people,
- 1:18Speaker 3: but I'm not sure we've reached what I would call
- 1:21Speaker 3: artificial general intelligence just yet.
- 1:23Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:24Speaker 2: He had a big palaver about a fruit fly's brain.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Did you understand that and how that led us to
- 1:30Speaker 2: understand that AGI was here?
- 1:33Speaker 3: No, no, I didn't. I've listened to a bunch of
- 1:37Speaker 3: the things that he said. I didn't go into that one.
- 1:40Speaker 3: But yeah, he's given, I guess, some interesting examples. He
- 1:46Speaker 3: talked about AI being able to build a billion-dollar business,
- 1:52Speaker 3: but that it would have zero chance of building and
- 1:55Speaker 3: running a business like NVIDIA on an ongoing basis. So
- 2:00Speaker 3: we've talked for a long time around artificial narrow intelligence,
- 2:06Speaker 3: and that's kind of been the norm, the world that
- 2:09Speaker 3: we've been in over recent years. And I think what's
- 2:14Speaker 3: happening is we've got a range of these narrow artificial
- 2:19Speaker 3: intelligences available within platforms, you know, such as OpenAI's new
- 2:25Speaker 3: GPT-6 model. But they're just kind of wired and linked together.
- 2:30Speaker 3: You don't actually have a I guess, a true brain
- 2:34Speaker 3: that can think across all areas of domains and really
- 2:38Speaker 3: operate like a human. And so, to me, we're not
- 2:42Speaker 3: there yet. One thing that would give me confidence that
- 2:46Speaker 3: we were there is any one of us could delegate
- 2:50Speaker 3: our job to an AI to look after while we
- 2:53Speaker 3: go on holiday for a week. I don't think there's
- 2:55Speaker 3: probably virtually anybody on the planet that can say, hey,
- 2:58Speaker 3: I could do, you know, at least, you know, a
- 3:01Speaker 3: half quality version of their work, you know, like that.
- 3:06Speaker 3: There's just so many gaps in the technology right now.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Paul, I just don't believe that's ever going to happen. Like,
- 3:12Speaker 2: this feels like the Jetsons crap. You know, we've been
- 3:14Speaker 2: doing this forever, haven't we? Saying that this wonderful thing
- 3:17Speaker 2: is going to happen in the future and it never
- 3:18Speaker 2: really does. Do you ever believe, do you believe this
- 3:20Speaker 2: will ever happen?
- 3:23Speaker 3: Well, I used to say no. Even a year ago,
- 3:28Speaker 3: I thought artificial general intelligence, this is science fiction and
- 3:33Speaker 3: it will never come. But the more I watch the
- 3:38Speaker 3: progress and see the improvements, the more open I am
- 3:44Speaker 3: to the possibility that things get really flipped on their head.
- 3:48Speaker 3: But it's a big journey to do it. It's not
- 3:50Speaker 3: just about the technology. It's around, you know, how businesses
- 3:54Speaker 3: and organizations work that technology into transforming themselves. You know,
- 4:00Speaker 3: this is not something that happens in five minutes. That's
- 4:04Speaker 3: for sure.
- 4:04Speaker 2: All right, Paul. Hey, thank you, man. Appreciate it as always.
- 4:07Speaker 2: It's Paul Spain, futurist and CEO at Guerrilla Technology.
