- 0:09Speaker 1: What's up, everybody?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome back to another episode of Bucko Territory, presented are
- 0:13Speaker 2: a part of the Foul Territory Network.
- 0:15Speaker 1: My name is Noah Hiles.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Joining me as always are my co hosts, Josh Harrison
- 0:19Speaker 2: and Mark aka platinum Key.
- 0:22Speaker 1: The Pirates are off to a rough start of their
- 0:25Speaker 1: twenty twenty sixth season.
- 0:26Speaker 2: We're recording this Sunday morning before they conclude their three
- 0:28Speaker 2: game series against New York Mets, but they've already lost
- 0:31Speaker 2: the first two, including a tough extra innings loss on Saturday.
- 0:36Speaker 2: We're going to talk about some of the storylines that
- 0:38Speaker 2: go along with the season, and we're gonna get into
- 0:40Speaker 2: it right now. We start off the show with our
- 0:43Speaker 2: weekly segment on Mondays, Key of the Week, presented to
- 0:47Speaker 2: you by platinum Key himself.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Mark. What's the key of the week this week?
- 0:53Speaker 3: Yeah, So, my Key of the Week this week is
- 0:56Speaker 3: going to be clutch hitting. As we've seen, we're sitting
- 1:00Speaker 3: through two games right now, the pairerates have three hits
- 1:03Speaker 3: with runners on base or runners in scoring position. I
- 1:05Speaker 3: should say that's not good, especially when they left seventeen
- 1:12Speaker 3: on base yesterday. Are in Saturday's game when it went
- 1:16Speaker 3: to extra inning. So you leave seventeen runners on base
- 1:20Speaker 3: and you can only score two runs, and you just
- 1:24Speaker 3: got to figure out a way in those situations to
- 1:28Speaker 3: get a hit. And I don't know if that's Don
- 1:30Speaker 3: Kelly adjusting the lineup. I don't know if that's guys
- 1:33Speaker 3: just locking in. We saw like Brian Reynolds strike out
- 1:38Speaker 3: in the top of the ninth with the runner on
- 1:40Speaker 3: first and third after Jake Ingham hit a double, and
- 1:43Speaker 3: we saw Jared Triolo, you know, line out. That was
- 1:46Speaker 3: a great hit where he lines out and ends the rally. Again,
- 1:50Speaker 3: I forget what inning that was, but you just gotta
- 1:52Speaker 3: get those to fall. And so that's my key of
- 1:55Speaker 3: the week is stepping up when there's runners on the
- 1:58Speaker 3: bases and and bringing it home because with the way
- 2:02Speaker 3: that this defense has been playing, you have to bring
- 2:05Speaker 3: home those runs and get that run support because that's
- 2:08Speaker 3: where your advantages on this team right now is at
- 2:11Speaker 3: the plate. That's how it's designed, and so scoring runs
- 2:14Speaker 3: at the plate and giving up runs on the defensive side,
- 2:17Speaker 3: it's going to be a long season. So that's my
- 2:20Speaker 3: key of the week is just clutch hitting.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I'll say this real quick.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I don't know if there could be a more PTSD
- 2:31Speaker 2: inducing start to the season, yeah, than what happened in
- 2:35Speaker 2: these first two games, where you've had Onneo Cruz making
- 2:38Speaker 2: defensive mistakes on opening day that kind of cost them
- 2:42Speaker 2: the game. And then to follow that up with a
- 2:46Speaker 2: scoreless Mitch Keller outing and you give him no run
- 2:49Speaker 2: support and you leave seventeen men on base, and you know,
- 2:53Speaker 2: you take the lead not once but twice an extra innings,
- 2:55Speaker 2: but you can't hang on to it.
- 2:58Speaker 1: These are the things that I get.
- 3:00Speaker 2: It's two games into the year. It's not that big
- 3:03Speaker 2: of a deal in the grand scheme of things. Like
- 3:04Speaker 2: you you obviously you don't want to lose any game,
- 3:07Speaker 2: but like it's just early season lows.
- 3:11Speaker 1: It doesn't define anything.
- 3:12Speaker 2: But it's just not a good feeling when you know,
- 3:15Speaker 2: you had all these good vibes coming out of camp
- 3:18Speaker 2: and people were excited, and this is the first taste
- 3:22Speaker 2: they yet it's not good.
- 3:25Speaker 4: It's baseball. I don't think the kid a week is
- 3:29Speaker 4: bad mark because you're talking clutch hitting. It's something that
- 3:32Speaker 4: every team talks about during spring training. That's what you
- 3:34Speaker 4: talk about, is situational hitting. It's I don't want to
- 3:39Speaker 4: say it's easy to do when nobody's on base, because
- 3:41Speaker 4: hitting is not easy to do. But in those moments
- 3:44Speaker 4: where you got guys on base, guys second base, no out,
- 3:46Speaker 4: guys second and third, you gotta get situational hitting at
- 3:50Speaker 4: that point the bad it has to be, and at
- 3:53Speaker 4: bad that is for the team, not that you're bat
- 3:55Speaker 4: isn't always for the team. But you know, those are
- 3:59Speaker 4: moments where, yes, it's only two games, but we sit
- 4:01Speaker 4: here and say it's not that big of a deal.
- 4:03Speaker 4: But I'm a firm believer that every game, you know, counts,
- 4:06Speaker 4: and yes, while there's one hundred and sixty two, not
- 4:09Speaker 4: everyone's going to go your way. If you continue to say, oh,
- 4:12Speaker 4: it's just one game, you'll be okay with that because
- 4:14Speaker 4: how many times do teams miss the playoffs by just
- 4:16Speaker 4: one game? And you know, it's easy to highlight old
- 4:20Speaker 4: Game one fifty in September where we didn't get the
- 4:23Speaker 4: situational hitting where I mean, sometimes that game one or
- 4:26Speaker 4: game two of the season, you know, might be the
- 4:28Speaker 4: deciding factor and not making the playoffs or whatever. But
- 4:31Speaker 4: at the same time, you know, you got to come
- 4:33Speaker 4: back to the field the next day, you know, and
- 4:36Speaker 4: you know wash all that away and come back ready
- 4:39Speaker 4: to you know, try to you know, win a ball
- 4:41Speaker 4: game the next day, because what happened in the past
- 4:43Speaker 4: isn't you know, have effect to today. So I think
- 4:46Speaker 4: situational hitting leave us seventeen men on base in one
- 4:49Speaker 4: game is that's pretty alarming. But at the same time,
- 4:52Speaker 4: if you're gonna do it, get it all out the
- 4:54Speaker 4: way now. And you know, as these first two games win,
- 4:58Speaker 4: who's to say that these this next week or two
- 5:01Speaker 4: can be a complete opposite. But that's the biggest thing
- 5:03Speaker 4: when you go from spring training to up North, a
- 5:06Speaker 4: lot of different factors, different weather, different ballparks, different visualization,
- 5:12Speaker 4: different anxiety, and you know, emotions because there are thirty
- 5:17Speaker 4: thousand in the stands as opposed to three thousand, you know,
- 5:21Speaker 4: so that amped up moment can have guys a little
- 5:23Speaker 4: amped up or just miss a pitch. So situation will
- 5:26Speaker 4: getting slow it down, get the job done.
- 5:29Speaker 3: And I will give a shout out to Nick and Zales.
- 5:31Speaker 3: He is two for four with three RBIs and the
- 5:34Speaker 3: double with runners in scoring position right now, so he's
- 5:38Speaker 3: doing his part. But those are two of the three
- 5:41Speaker 3: hits that the Pirates have. The only other one is
- 5:44Speaker 3: that Brian Reynolds like swinging bunt down the third baseline.
- 5:48Speaker 3: They count it counts yeah, but when those are yeah,
- 5:52Speaker 3: you're only three hits with runners in scoring position. Gotta
- 5:55Speaker 3: step that up.

- 6:55Speaker 2: On the note of gotta step up, let's pervert back
- 6:59Speaker 2: to open. Josh, you weren't able to join us for
- 7:02Speaker 2: that show. We still haven't got your thoughts on O'Neal
- 7:06Speaker 2: Cruz's defensive efforts in the field on Thursday. For all
- 7:11Speaker 2: hims on deck, I feel like that's a good place to.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Start, that's for sure. And as we sit here, one
- 7:18Speaker 4: of the things I wanted to highlight was you're in
- 7:20Speaker 4: a different ballpark, different surroundings. And then I'm not trying
- 7:26Speaker 4: to pick on a guy when he's down, but at
- 7:28Speaker 4: the same time, I have to make light of what
- 7:30Speaker 4: I see of observations. The first sunball that he missed,
- 7:33Speaker 4: this was one of I can't remember which infield culture
- 7:36Speaker 4: of mine, you know, throughout my career, but one of
- 7:39Speaker 4: his biggest pet peeves was guys that were sunglasses on
- 7:42Speaker 4: the hat and try to shield the sun or you
- 7:45Speaker 4: or you know what I mean. Or if you have sunglasses,
- 7:47Speaker 4: put them on. And if you don't have sunglasses, you
- 7:49Speaker 4: need to wear them. And yes, that's that sucks. He
- 7:53Speaker 4: lost the In my college coach will say, you didn't
- 7:56Speaker 4: lose the ball in the sun. It's in the sun.
- 7:58Speaker 4: You know where it is, do a better job of
- 8:00Speaker 4: fighting through it, or wear sunglasses. Yes, that's unfortunate. Then
- 8:04Speaker 4: it leads to right there, visually, maybe he's not picking
- 8:07Speaker 4: the ball up because day games, I will tell you
- 8:09Speaker 4: certain stadiums, you don't pick the ball up with the
- 8:11Speaker 4: crowd back there sometimes, you know, if they weren't white.
- 8:15Speaker 3: And that's not just that first misplay too, So who
- 8:18Speaker 3: knows how.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, And I got to say, who knows that
- 8:23Speaker 4: might have been man, I misplayed that ball and then
- 8:26Speaker 4: the ball is lost. I'm not making an excuse for him,
- 8:28Speaker 4: because those balls have to be caught. But at the
- 8:30Speaker 4: same time, you know, credit to ball. You know, he
- 8:34Speaker 4: goes get the bad one at the way early, you know,
- 8:38Speaker 4: And not to say he has every right, because I
- 8:40Speaker 4: don't think a good teammate's not going to throw your
- 8:42Speaker 4: teammate under the bus, which I think he did a
- 8:44Speaker 4: great job of, you know, because he's probably like, I
- 8:46Speaker 4: can make some pictures better there. But at the same time,
- 8:48Speaker 4: you know, I know O'Neill is like, man, I gotta
- 8:51Speaker 4: make those plays. But when you've only played one game
- 8:55Speaker 4: in a season, of course the bad is gonna outweigh
- 8:58Speaker 4: the good if you haven't really done much good. But
- 9:01Speaker 4: you know, as bad as this has started for him,
- 9:03Speaker 4: there's still time to turn it around. But I think
- 9:07Speaker 4: this is an eye opener, say, it's not going to
- 9:10Speaker 4: go through the whole month of April for this to happen,
- 9:14Speaker 4: especially saying how Mingham stepped in, you know, yesterday and
- 9:16Speaker 4: gave some good energy. Good at Batch made a play
- 9:20Speaker 4: that I'm sure O'Neill has made before. But at the
- 9:23Speaker 4: same time, repetition is something that is key, and I
- 9:27Speaker 4: think you got to make those plays and not to
- 9:29Speaker 4: harp on well, you know what's happened, but those are
- 9:32Speaker 4: places that's got to be made, especially when you got
- 9:34Speaker 4: your guys on the mountain in regardless of who was
- 9:36Speaker 4: on the mound, you need to make those players. But
- 9:38Speaker 4: you know, we talked twenty seven outs on defense. You
- 9:41Speaker 4: don't want to give that other team more outs. And
- 9:43Speaker 4: when you give the other team more outs, that's what
- 9:44Speaker 4: can happen.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I gotta say, like, the big takeaway from what
- 9:49Speaker 2: you just mentioned is like the something I could care
- 9:52Speaker 2: less about the sun thing because that's sunglasses.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Not sunglasses. I said this on the last show.
- 9:57Speaker 2: It's like people played baseball before sunglasses were even invented,
- 10:01Speaker 2: and they still found a way to catch the ball
- 10:03Speaker 2: with the sun in the in the sky.
- 10:05Speaker 4: That's that's your job.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Yeah, you got, like the sun shines for every baseball
- 10:11Speaker 2: game ever played. Essentially, sometimes you're in a dome, sometimes
- 10:15Speaker 2: there's clouds, but there's always going to be a visual distraction.
- 10:19Speaker 2: And especially like Joshua you mentioned, I mean I've never
- 10:21Speaker 2: played in a three deck stadium, but like that probably
- 10:27Speaker 2: is visually impairing as well, just the colors and everything,
- 10:30Speaker 2: Like it's still your job to catch it, and.
- 10:32Speaker 4: We've done it before you take VP. That's where you
- 10:35Speaker 4: get your read.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Sun sun aside.
- 10:38Speaker 2: The problem with O'Neill is he's not reading the ball well,
- 10:42Speaker 2: he's just not.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Getting a good read.
- 10:44Speaker 2: And that's something that happened a lot last year. Like
- 10:47Speaker 2: he's athletic enough to where even if he gets a
- 10:49Speaker 2: bad read, he can get there right. Yeah, But when
- 10:54Speaker 2: you're when you're taking your first step in on a
- 10:58Speaker 2: line drive, that's just I mean, twelve year olds no
- 11:01Speaker 2: better than that, And that just means you're not seeing
- 11:03Speaker 2: the ball like or you have no idea from where
- 11:06Speaker 2: the ball is going that or.
- 11:09Speaker 4: He hasn't really honed in on the outfield. You know,
- 11:12Speaker 4: I played both. When that ball is hit, when that
- 11:15Speaker 4: ball is head heighted, you don't sprint in. You get
- 11:17Speaker 4: below the ball to see it. And it's the same thing.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Infielders do the same thing on ground balls. Outfielders, if
- 11:24Speaker 4: your first step is forward, you've lost range, you haven't
- 11:27Speaker 4: really seen the ball. It costs infielders more because that's
- 11:31Speaker 4: where errors happen. Yes, outfielders do it, but as you said, no,
- 11:35Speaker 4: when you have outfielders that are faster athletic, it can
- 11:38Speaker 4: be kind of overshadow because their speed or athleticism will overshadow.
- 11:43Speaker 4: But when it continually happens at some point it's like, okay,
- 11:46Speaker 4: And I don't want to put all the blame on O'Neil,
- 11:50Speaker 4: because if you have a guy that you know does
- 11:52Speaker 4: not get good reach, what is he working on. It's
- 11:55Speaker 4: not on him. He can be invp and reading balls
- 11:58Speaker 4: off the bat. Yes, that's the only way you really
- 12:01Speaker 4: get better at getting live reach, but there are other
- 12:03Speaker 4: ways to get better at that and drill work, and
- 12:07Speaker 4: that's about locking in and making a guy accountable. And
- 12:11Speaker 4: sometimes if a god is not a natural outfielder, it
- 12:14Speaker 4: has to be gone above and beyond him for them
- 12:16Speaker 4: to say, let's get out here early. Let's figure out
- 12:19Speaker 4: how we can get you making better reads. Because you're
- 12:21Speaker 4: in the center of the field. This is the easiest read,
- 12:23Speaker 4: per se. I've played the corners. The center is the
- 12:27Speaker 4: easiest read. But at the same time, it's not easy
- 12:29Speaker 4: when you haven't played it. Then your first reaction is
- 12:31Speaker 4: to go no And as you said, Noah to be
- 12:35Speaker 4: out there for a couple more years, you know what,
- 12:37Speaker 4: two years now. You don't want to keep harping on
- 12:41Speaker 4: the same physical mistakes. And sometimes those physical mistakes are
- 12:45Speaker 4: also a compound of a mental mistake, because is he
- 12:48Speaker 4: really locked in? As you said, he misplayed the first one,
- 12:51Speaker 4: So is he like, oh, man, I missed that ball
- 12:54Speaker 4: and then not locked in getting the next read something
- 12:57Speaker 4: that they won't I don't think they'll allow to happen
- 13:00Speaker 4: for a long time. But at the same time, would
- 13:01Speaker 4: have happened in the first game, maybe this is something
- 13:03Speaker 4: that is a wake up call for him to say, oh,
- 13:05Speaker 4: it didn't happen in game thirteen. It happened game one,
- 13:08Speaker 4: and yes, game two, there was a lefty on the mound,
- 13:11Speaker 4: a little better matchup from Mangham starting. But at the
- 13:13Speaker 4: same time, if one would make those two players and
- 13:15Speaker 4: it's hitting decent, was probably starting that game, you know
- 13:20Speaker 4: but defense is something that is not just about offense.
- 13:23Speaker 4: You gotta take care of the defensive side.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yep, I will say go.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Ahead and mark Okay, one other I had a different point,
- 13:31Speaker 3: So finish off if you want to.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I was just gonna note that. I mean O'Neill
- 13:36Speaker 2: works hard, like not not that we were suggesting that
- 13:39Speaker 2: he doesn't, but like I see him working on these
- 13:42Speaker 2: things all the time. He's always before every game working
- 13:46Speaker 2: on his defense, like he's doing drills. He's out there
- 13:49Speaker 2: with t Brock and Tony Beasley and like they're they're
- 13:52Speaker 2: helping him. But I last year, I saw the work
- 13:57Speaker 2: the year before that when they moved him. But it's
- 14:01Speaker 2: one thing to be able to be confident in practice.
- 14:04Speaker 2: It's a whole other thing when, like like you said, Josh,
- 14:07Speaker 2: when there are thirty thousand people rooting for you to
- 14:09Speaker 2: screw up and you have that in your mind and
- 14:13Speaker 2: you're like, okay, well the bases are loaded. And that's
- 14:15Speaker 2: That's the thing with o'nel Cruz, more than anything else
- 14:20Speaker 2: that will drive you crazy, is that his mistakes almost
- 14:24Speaker 2: always come with a runner and scoring position. It's it's
- 14:28Speaker 2: when it's pressure, it's and I can't pretend to have
- 14:32Speaker 2: played the game at a high level or anything. But
- 14:35Speaker 2: when you're in those situations, you've got to be out
- 14:38Speaker 2: there in the field saying, I hope they hit the
- 14:40Speaker 2: ball to me. And that's just not the reality.
- 14:44Speaker 4: Ain't no I hope there's no I hope they hit
- 14:47Speaker 4: you were I want the ball. That's like I want
- 14:51Speaker 4: the ball.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I want the ball hit to me. Hit it to me,
- 14:53Speaker 2: hit it to me. I know I'm going to make
- 14:54Speaker 2: the right play. And when you don't have a semblance
- 14:58Speaker 2: of that mentality, the all will almost always find you,
- 15:01Speaker 2: and it finds him. Like you look at his mistakes
- 15:06Speaker 2: last opening day. That's runners. It's the tying run on
- 15:10Speaker 2: second base and he makes the bad decision there, Like
- 15:14Speaker 2: it's almost always with a runner in scoring position his mistakes.
- 15:18Speaker 2: When there's no one on base, he plays fine. And
- 15:21Speaker 2: but that's kind of the epitome of this.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Team right now.
- 15:24Speaker 2: Mark, Like you talked about like close games and not
- 15:27Speaker 2: executing with runners in scoring position.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Defensively, you look at a guy like Hunter Barco.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Coming in into a game in extra innings where they
- 15:34Speaker 2: already have the automatic runner. How many guys on this
- 15:38Speaker 2: team if you're a pitcher when the balls hit to them,
- 15:42Speaker 2: you're like, Okay, that's that's a that's almost a guaranteed out.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It's a routine playing. It's gonna be made.
- 15:48Speaker 2: The way this team's assembled right now, half the field
- 15:51Speaker 2: is a question if you're holding your breath every time
- 15:55Speaker 2: the balls hit because you've got so many guys playing
- 15:57Speaker 2: out of position and some guys just aren't competent defenders
- 16:01Speaker 2: right now.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Yes, So it's it's interesting Mark, you had a different point.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I was. I was just going to bring up
- 16:10Speaker 3: another frustrating topic that we touched on last week that
- 16:13Speaker 3: we saw more of on Saturday, and that was just
- 16:17Speaker 3: so many free base runners. We saw a bunch of
- 16:21Speaker 3: just lead off the whole bullpen. I feel like the
- 16:25Speaker 3: first battery they faced from the seventh inning on, they
- 16:28Speaker 3: walked where It's just you're starting off every single inning
- 16:32Speaker 3: with a runner on first and no outs, and it
- 16:36Speaker 3: just makes you pitch from behind. And we saw how
- 16:40Speaker 3: I mean, they got out of it until they did
- 16:43Speaker 3: in the eleventh, but yeah, I just you gotta limit
- 16:47Speaker 3: that with this defense because it's just going to penalize you.
- 16:52Speaker 3: So yeah, I was just going to bring that up
- 16:53Speaker 3: or we could. I also wanted to get your thoughts
- 16:56Speaker 3: on bringing Barco in in that situation where it's his
- 16:59Speaker 3: third MLB appearance in a way stadium with the save opportunity.
- 17:05Speaker 3: I thought bringing him in the tenth made sense. I
- 17:08Speaker 3: know people question bringing him back out for the eleventh.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I think if you're bringing him in for the tenth,
- 17:12Speaker 3: you that's the places to bring him out, Yeah, because
- 17:16Speaker 3: you want multiple innings there if the game is going
- 17:18Speaker 3: to continue. Yeah, So I thought leaving him in there
- 17:21Speaker 3: was fine if you're going to bring him in that situation.
- 17:23Speaker 3: But if you have Majenski starting today on Sunday, maybe
- 17:28Speaker 3: you want Parker to piggyback instead.
- 17:29Speaker 4: But the or maybe not not to cut you off
- 17:35Speaker 4: as I said, or maybe or maybe they want to,
- 17:38Speaker 4: you know, the arms that they could have used behind
- 17:39Speaker 4: Barco they'll use, you know, from Majensky today. Yeah, that's
- 17:43Speaker 4: kind of what I was thinking. You know, I'm thinking,
- 17:46Speaker 4: and I saw, you know, why is he going back
- 17:48Speaker 4: out there? And the extra ending games are you know,
- 17:50Speaker 4: a little tricky, especially when you start with a guy
- 17:52Speaker 4: on second base and then you know you're a visiting
- 17:54Speaker 4: team and then if you don't get the run that
- 17:57Speaker 4: you go aheads like like not saying on a guy
- 18:00Speaker 4: that's already out there, but if it's a guy that
- 18:01Speaker 4: can go extra innings, you know, multiple innings, you know,
- 18:05Speaker 4: it's like, man, you got to think about the next
- 18:07Speaker 4: day too, because you know, as you've already gone through
- 18:09Speaker 4: inning seven, eight and nine and you've already used like
- 18:12Speaker 4: the back end of your bullpen, things get a little
- 18:14Speaker 4: harry there because like, all right, now we got guys
- 18:17Speaker 4: in everybody in this next coming situation is going to
- 18:20Speaker 4: be a situation that they're not because all of our
- 18:21Speaker 4: high leverage guys have already been used. So the rest
- 18:24Speaker 4: of these high leverage the rest of the guys are
- 18:26Speaker 4: going to get a high leverage opportunity. Is just you
- 18:29Speaker 4: know what, somebody always this guy's still in guess what.
- 18:32Speaker 4: The guys that we really want in a situation have
- 18:34Speaker 4: already been used. But we also got to think about
- 18:36Speaker 4: tomorrow because you know it's the day three starter. Now,
- 18:41Speaker 4: you know we want him to go five six innings,
- 18:42Speaker 4: but you never know what's going to happen. You know,
- 18:44Speaker 4: God willing, you want him to go seven, but you
- 18:46Speaker 4: know it's the early part of the season with JESSKEI
- 18:49Speaker 4: is you know, getting back into the you know rotation,
- 18:52Speaker 4: So you still want to make sure that you know,
- 18:54Speaker 4: no pun intended, you have all hands on that.
- 18:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean and you.
- 19:00Speaker 2: I mean, this was a team that threw seven pitchers
- 19:02Speaker 2: on opening Day and a lot some of those guys,
- 19:05Speaker 2: I think Montgomery through forty pitches.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I want to say, Matt's in through thirty eight.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, So when when you look at the way
- 19:16Speaker 2: your bullpen, and yes they had an off day after
- 19:19Speaker 2: opening Day, but still it's the first game of the
- 19:21Speaker 2: season and you just literally everyone in your bullpen aside
- 19:25Speaker 2: from Orkidian Barco. So then you get into another extra
- 19:29Speaker 2: inning game and it's like, are you going to go
- 19:31Speaker 2: another game where you get seven people or do you
- 19:34Speaker 2: go to Hunter Barco, who was essentially your sixth.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Starter, and you say, here's the ball.
- 19:39Speaker 2: It's years until it's done and that could be one inning,
- 19:43Speaker 2: that could be six innings, regardless, Like, this is your game.
- 19:46Speaker 2: And I know some people were saying, oh, he's a rookie,
- 19:49Speaker 2: he's only pitched a couple games in major leagues.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Guess what, he's a big leaguer. It's major league baseball.
- 19:55Speaker 2: It's it's the mound is just as high and just
- 19:58Speaker 2: as far away from home play as it was in
- 20:00Speaker 2: Triple A, Double A, and Single A. The batters are better,
- 20:03Speaker 2: the crowds are bigger, but it's baseball, man, and if
- 20:06Speaker 2: he's good enough to make the team, he's good enough
- 20:08Speaker 2: to pitch in this situation. I had no problem with
- 20:11Speaker 2: all the circumstances, and uh, you know, and play with
- 20:17Speaker 2: the decision they made because you're you're thinking about today,
- 20:20Speaker 2: but you're also thinking about tomorrow, like we noted, like
- 20:23Speaker 2: they're gonna need her kidie to cover innings on Sunday.
- 20:27Speaker 2: They're going to need Mattson to be some sort of
- 20:30Speaker 2: leverage option because probably Soto and Santana aren't available. So
- 20:36Speaker 2: that's that's the science behind it. And you know, you
- 20:41Speaker 2: want to if it was Game two of the World Series,
- 20:43Speaker 2: yeah that is, Santana's probably coming back out for the tenth. Yeah,
- 20:46Speaker 2: but it's March twenty eighth is when that game was played.
- 20:50Speaker 2: So they all matter. But you got to keep the
- 20:53Speaker 2: journey in mind. And there's one hundred and sixty you
- 20:55Speaker 2: got to play afterwards.
- 20:56Speaker 4: So health is the big thing, and you don't want
- 20:59Speaker 4: to wear guy out Game three of the season. As
- 21:01Speaker 4: you said, even though they had the off day, it's
- 21:04Speaker 4: still you know, thirty eight forty pitchers that still might
- 21:06Speaker 4: have a guy feeling like they're going back to back,
- 21:09Speaker 4: and you want to make sure that you got these
- 21:12Speaker 4: guys being able to go back to back when you
- 21:13Speaker 4: need them later in the season.
- 21:16Speaker 1: All right, guys, any final thoughts before we wrap up?
- 21:21Speaker 4: Go ahead, Joshua No, I was just gonna say, I
- 21:24Speaker 4: know they get I mean, get out of New York
- 21:27Speaker 4: with one. I know the first two haven't gone. But
- 21:31Speaker 4: one thing that we always said as players is a hey,
- 21:34Speaker 4: if they hey, get at least one. You know what
- 21:36Speaker 4: I mean, Hey, if you don't want a serious you
- 21:39Speaker 4: gotta win at least one, because that's going to keep
- 21:41Speaker 4: you from going in that slide of you know, losing
- 21:43Speaker 4: six seventh straight. You start one, you can get to two.
- 21:46Speaker 4: You know what they got the first two leave out
- 21:47Speaker 4: of New York with one. Make it a happy flight.
- 21:49Speaker 4: That's what we say, happy flight.
- 21:51Speaker 3: I love it, and I'll just send then just a
- 21:54Speaker 3: shout out to Mitch Keller, just an absolute bulldog on Saturday.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Pitch really well. Seventy seven pitches through six innings, only
- 22:02Speaker 3: gave up three hits, no walks, and did it without
- 22:05Speaker 3: striking guys out. And I mean he had three strikeouts.
- 22:09Speaker 3: So yeah, I was really impressed by Mitch Keller. Great
- 22:12Speaker 3: to see him back and looking forward to today's game
- 22:16Speaker 3: on Sunday.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Here.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll echo the Mitch Keller thing. They needed someone
- 22:21Speaker 2: to go yeah he did that, yeah, yeah, and they
- 22:25Speaker 2: got it. Ironically, the game went eleven innings, so right,
- 22:30Speaker 2: a lot, but Mitch did his part, which is a sentence.
- 22:33Speaker 1: We'll probably say a lot this year because.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I want to remind everyone to hit that subscribe button
- 22:40Speaker 2: if they have not already. Were on a mission of
- 22:43Speaker 2: three thousand subs, can't get there without your help. And
