- 0:07Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to this very festive episode of Outspoken.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I am so excited to be in your ears on
- 0:17Speaker 1: Christmas Eve. What an absolute honour. It is a sacred day,
- 0:20Speaker 1: isn't it? Yeah, I said in yesterday's episode that Christmas
- 0:22Speaker 1: Eve is actually my favourite day of the year. Don't
- 0:25Speaker 1: you think it feels more Christmassy on Christmas Eve? Like,
- 0:27Speaker 1: I've seen a lot of commentary around the fact that
- 0:30Speaker 1: Christmas day it kind of drops off the excitement because
- 0:33Speaker 1: I think I enjoy more of the lead up to
- 0:36Speaker 1: Christmas I think after Christmas morning yes I enjoy the
- 0:39Speaker 1: lead up and then I think the magic of Christmas
- 0:41Speaker 1: morning and also going out and seeing if your milk's
- 0:44Speaker 1: been drunk or your carrots have been chewed or whatever
- 0:47Speaker 1: yeah have you seen those parents that create kind of
- 0:50Speaker 1: like you know when the footy's on and they run
- 0:52Speaker 1: through like a paper banner yeah they set up a
- 0:54Speaker 1: wallpaper banner so What they do is they cover the
- 0:56Speaker 1: whole thing so you can't even see into the room
- 0:58Speaker 1: in Christmas paper and all the kids run through it
- 1:01Speaker 1: and see the Christmas tree with all the presents around it.
- 1:03Speaker 1: How cool is that? That's pretty cool and I'm guessing
- 1:05Speaker 1: that it helps stop any little eyes from peering down
- 1:08Speaker 1: and seeing their parents wrapping presents. I've seen another thing
- 1:11Speaker 1: on TikTok where the dads will dress up as Santa Claus. Oh,
- 1:14Speaker 1: I love it. And they'll get like the mum will
- 1:16Speaker 1: wake up the kids and be like, shh, watch, he's
- 1:18Speaker 1: coming up. I love that. I love the comments because
- 1:20Speaker 1: someone's like, I tried this once and my kids didn't
- 1:22Speaker 1: go to sleep after. Oh, truth. That would, yeah, that
- 1:25Speaker 1: would be hard to get them back to bed. I
- 1:26Speaker 1: remember one Christmas Eve and our dad used to go
- 1:31Speaker 1: absolutely nuts with Christmas lights. He's done a very nice
- 1:34Speaker 1: effort this year, but it's not what he used to do.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Like he used to have like 20 sets of Christmas
- 1:37Speaker 1: lights up. And Amy, when we used to still share
- 1:41Speaker 1: a room, all three of us, up until we were
- 1:43Speaker 1: about nine, you had your bed across the window. So
- 1:47Speaker 1: you had the best view of the Christmas lights coming in.
- 1:50Speaker 1: And I could kind of see them from my bed too.
- 1:52Speaker 1: And I remember one Christmas, Dad used to have a
- 1:55Speaker 1: timer on the Christmas lights, but it malfunctioned and the
- 1:57Speaker 1: lights went on at like 2am and you're kind of
- 1:59Speaker 1: like woken by them. And I thought I heard Santa
- 2:02Speaker 1: on the roof as well. And I remember just not
- 2:06Speaker 1: being able to fall asleep from that point. We had
- 2:08Speaker 1: a brush fence and I remember a few times looking
- 2:10Speaker 1: out the window and thinking that the brush fence was
- 2:12Speaker 1: the sleigh. Oh, and there was that one Christmas Eve,
- 2:15Speaker 1: we went to our uncle Paul's house and All our
- 2:18Speaker 1: extended family was there and our cousin rushed over and goes, oh,
- 2:22Speaker 1: my God, girls, I just saw Santa and pointed at
- 2:24Speaker 1: the sky. And I was just, my mind was blown.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Like it was so exciting. Yeah. I want to get
- 2:28Speaker 1: into Christmas present etiquette. I know by now everyone will
- 2:32Speaker 1: have hopefully wrapped their presents. That's a goal for me.
- 2:35Speaker 1: But I know that I'll have a couple of ones
- 2:37Speaker 1: that I will have to wrap before I go to
- 2:38Speaker 1: bed on Christmas Eve. Yeah. every year that happens to
- 2:41Speaker 1: me but what do you think about gift cards are
- 2:44Speaker 1: they thoughtful or lazy I love a gift card I
- 2:46Speaker 1: actually think it's really thoughtful to give someone something so
- 2:49Speaker 1: they can get something that they actually want because often
- 2:52Speaker 1: you just get a load of crap you don't want
- 2:54Speaker 1: you don't want in your house and it's not lazy
- 2:56Speaker 1: either because you have to actually go on physically you
- 2:58Speaker 1: should get one the thing is though I would feel
- 3:00Speaker 1: differently if it was my partner getting me a gift
- 3:03Speaker 1: card because I think that's lazy I think that's like
- 3:04Speaker 1: a little bit thoughtless I think Dale's really scared about
- 3:07Speaker 1: what to get me this year because remember we had
- 3:09Speaker 1: that laugh about how we'd purchased some stuff off of
- 3:11Speaker 1: Timu and then I found the Timu thing and he
- 3:14Speaker 1: didn't give it to me. See, on our side of
- 3:16Speaker 1: the family, we've decided to do a Kris Kringle, just
- 3:19Speaker 1: like the three of us and our husbands because we'd
- 3:21Speaker 1: prefer to spend the money on the babies. Yeah. And
- 3:25Speaker 1: it's quite funny because I'd– well, Disclaimer, I actually do
- 3:29Speaker 1: know who Sophie has got because she can't keep a secret.
- 3:31Speaker 1: She told me too. She literally, like I didn't even
- 3:33Speaker 1: have to try and pry the information out of her.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I also know who Dale has. Well, I stuffed up
- 3:38Speaker 1: and I accidentally, because mum knows because she was making
- 3:41Speaker 1: sure that we all, like we did it through an
- 3:42Speaker 1: app and we were like, imagine if someone just, everyone
- 3:44Speaker 1: gets me. And so I was talking about a present
- 3:47Speaker 1: that I had purchased for my Kris Kringle. And then
- 3:50Speaker 1: I said it out loud and Rhys was in the
- 3:52Speaker 1: other room. But he was totally thrown. He thought I
- 3:54Speaker 1: had someone completely different. So I was, like, really smug
- 3:56Speaker 1: about it. And then I'm like, damn it, you heard.
- 3:59Speaker 1: But anyway, I was saying that whoever has Dale, and
- 4:03Speaker 1: it could be me, should have got him. There was
- 4:05Speaker 1: a hat on Uncle Reco that said Timu Slut. Like,
- 4:07Speaker 1: I just thought it was so funny. I'm like, you
- 4:09Speaker 1: should have got it for him for Christmas. Oh, yeah,
- 4:12Speaker 1: that's a great one. But you've become a bit of
- 4:13Speaker 1: a Timu Slut, I reckon. I have become a Timu Slut.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I got a lot of Christmas decorations off Timu. Yeah.
- 4:19Speaker 1: As in, yeah, for my, we were talking about it
- 4:21Speaker 1: in the other episode. For your tablescape. Yeah, my tablescape.
- 4:24Speaker 1: I don't know, it just cracks me up using the
- 4:25Speaker 1: word tablescape. It just sounds so wanky, doesn't it? Yeah,
- 4:28Speaker 1: it does. Who do you think I have for Chris Kringle?
- 4:31Speaker 1: I reckon you've got me. I'm hoping you do. I'm
- 4:36Speaker 1: not denying, I'm not going to confirm it. Who do
- 4:38Speaker 1: you think you've got? Hang on, I don't want to. Wait,
- 4:39Speaker 1: who do you think, no, who do you think that
- 4:41Speaker 1: you have, do you mean? Oh, sorry. Well, I know
- 4:43Speaker 1: who I've got. No, no, I thought you said who
- 4:44Speaker 1: do you think you've got. No, I'm saying who do
- 4:46Speaker 1: you think I have? I don't want to say because
- 4:51Speaker 1: I already said I knew who Soph and Dale have. Oh, true. Yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 1: I don't want to give it away. Okay. Interesting. All right.
- 4:59Speaker 1: So for the Kris Kringle present, have you got a
- 5:01Speaker 1: nice present or joke present? Oh, nice. Are people doing
- 5:04Speaker 1: joke ones? Well, because you said the Teemu slut thing. Oh,
- 5:06Speaker 1: but like that's a small present. That's a small portion
- 5:08Speaker 1: because we're spending a hundred bucks. I hope no one's
- 5:10Speaker 1: done a mean present for me. Oh, no. Dale's got me.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I definitely think Dale's got me. I'm not saying anything.
- 5:18Speaker 1: I don't even know what Dale's got for the present
- 5:21Speaker 1: for whoever he's got. I haven't helped him. Well, how
- 5:23Speaker 1: do you know who's got then? He told me who
- 5:25Speaker 1: he had. Why? I don't know who Rhys has got.
- 5:27Speaker 1: He's very secretive about this. I was saying how Dale
- 5:30Speaker 1: was really scared of what to get me for Christmas
- 5:32Speaker 1: and he revealed, I don't know, some part of my
- 5:34Speaker 1: Christmas present. I thought you picked it out. No, no. Oh,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I did. I picked something out. But he's got me
- 5:40Speaker 1: this Christmas bauble which plays a video. I've never seen them.
- 5:44Speaker 1: He's like, surely you've seen them. I'm like, I have
- 5:46Speaker 1: not seen these online. I saw a magnet version of those. Yeah.
- 5:49Speaker 1: But like it's not, yeah, like it just, it plays
- 5:51Speaker 1: a song. And he said that he had to tell
- 5:53Speaker 1: me because he wanted to put photos or videos of
- 5:56Speaker 1: Harry on it, but he didn't really have any on
- 5:57Speaker 1: his phone because men never take videos. Oh, that's a
- 6:01Speaker 1: whole other topic. Rhys and I have decided that rather
- 6:04Speaker 1: than trying to guess what each other wants, because I
- 6:07Speaker 1: Last year I felt like I had a bit of
- 6:09Speaker 1: a gift fail. So I got him this really nice
- 6:12Speaker 1: leather laptop bag from Aquila and I was like, oh,
- 6:14Speaker 1: that's really nice. And then he got me all these
- 6:17Speaker 1: like different thoughtful things. It was like, you know, your
- 6:19Speaker 1: first Christmas with Jack book and then it was like
- 6:23Speaker 1: some Pooh Bear Christmas pyjamas and a Christmas jumper with
- 6:27Speaker 1: like the personalized on with our family on it. It's cute.
- 6:31Speaker 1: New Balance shoes, all these really cool things. And I
- 6:33Speaker 1: was like, oh, I've only got him sort of like
- 6:35Speaker 1: one big gift. And then it turned out, I know,
- 6:38Speaker 1: a couple of weeks after Christmas, he revealed that he
- 6:40Speaker 1: actually already had a brown leather laptop bag. I mean,
- 6:43Speaker 1: it was from Amazon or something. And I felt terrible.
- 6:46Speaker 1: But then I was like, hang on, you only had
- 6:48Speaker 1: me to organise a gift for. I had to organise
- 6:50Speaker 1: a gift for Jack and all of our whole family
- 6:52Speaker 1: and your family. So that sort of went, the guilt
- 6:54Speaker 1: went away. But Reece is so hard to buy for because,
- 6:57Speaker 1: I don't know, he doesn't really like, He likes clothes,
- 7:00Speaker 1: but he's got so many and I wouldn't want to
- 7:02Speaker 1: pick them out for him. He's got his own style.
- 7:04Speaker 1: And then I end up buying him shoes and he's
- 7:05Speaker 1: got like 50 pairs of shoes. So we've decided that
- 7:08Speaker 1: we're just going to buy like a bigger ticket item
- 7:11Speaker 1: together that we actually need. So I have been wanting
- 7:14Speaker 1: a king bed for so long. We've got two golden
- 7:16Speaker 1: retrievers that share our bed. But do you think we've
- 7:18Speaker 1: had time to organize it? No. So we're probably going
- 7:20Speaker 1: to get it in the Boxing Day sales. But then
- 7:21Speaker 1: I'm like, I feel like I need to get something
- 7:23Speaker 1: small for Reece to unwrap. And it's really hard to
- 7:25Speaker 1: come up with a nice gift that's small, that's not
- 7:27Speaker 1: very expensive because that was the whole point to save money. Well,
- 7:29Speaker 1: do you know what I've got, Dale? I think I
- 7:30Speaker 1: can say on this podcast. Yeah, he's not going to listen. Well,
- 7:33Speaker 1: he asked for some Ray-Ban sunglasses. So I got those
- 7:35Speaker 1: sunglasses for him and I thought that was kind of
- 7:37Speaker 1: it because we'd said, oh, we want to spend X
- 7:39Speaker 1: amount on each other. But then he kept saying like
- 7:42Speaker 1: how he'd got this thing and he'd really, I know
- 7:44Speaker 1: he spent more on me. So I don't want to
- 7:47Speaker 1: be that person that's got given the shit present. So
- 7:50Speaker 1: I went out and I've bought It's a digital camera
- 7:53Speaker 1: but it looks like an old school camera and it
- 7:55Speaker 1: doesn't have the screen on the back and that is
- 7:58Speaker 1: so huge. That's cool. Like he loves all that sort
- 7:59Speaker 1: of old school stuff and it takes it like an
- 8:02Speaker 1: old sort of film camera. I've never even heard of them.
- 8:04Speaker 1: That's cool. Yeah, and then because Dale doesn't really take
- 8:07Speaker 1: photos in it so he can take photos of Harry.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Get some better photos for the bauble so he doesn't
- 8:12Speaker 1: have to verify them with you. Yeah, exactly. And then
- 8:14Speaker 1: I also got him because he loves Pokemon and he's
- 8:16Speaker 1: got a Nintendo Switch. I got him a Pokemon game.
- 8:19Speaker 1: So hopefully he likes it and … I'm going to
- 8:21Speaker 1: be doing a Christmas photo shoot of Harry over the
- 8:24Speaker 1: next couple of days. Oh, that's so cute. So I'm
- 8:26Speaker 1: going to get them all printed. Can you do one
- 8:28Speaker 1: of those? Yeah, yeah. I'm keen. Do you think you're
- 8:31Speaker 1: good at pretending to love a bad gift? No, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: think my face says it all. We have the most
- 8:35Speaker 1: expressive faces. Like Jack has got that from me. Everyone's like,
- 8:38Speaker 1: why is he so expressive? I'm like, it's from me.
- 8:39Speaker 1: That being said, Sophie's so good at faking stuff. Like
- 8:43Speaker 1: because Sophie and I work together. She's fake, Ron. Because
- 8:46Speaker 1: Sophie and I, we have our PR agency together and
- 8:48Speaker 1: I can't do all that fake like But do you
- 8:51Speaker 1: think she can be fake? Like say Brandon gave her
- 8:53Speaker 1: a gift that she didn't like. Do you think she
- 8:54Speaker 1: can fake that? Because I think it's easier when you
- 8:56Speaker 1: don't know the person. Yeah, I think she could fake something,
- 9:00Speaker 1: but then eventually like a few days later would say, oh,
- 9:03Speaker 1: I hate that. See, Rhys and I still have the
- 9:04Speaker 1: ongoing joke about when he got me a shower caddy
- 9:08Speaker 1: for Christmas. And it wasn't the only gift. Like this
- 9:10Speaker 1: sounds so spoiled because he got me so many other
- 9:12Speaker 1: lovely things. But it was the Christmas before our wedding.
- 9:15Speaker 1: So our wedding was like literally like a couple of
- 9:17Speaker 1: weeks after. And I was like, This is so unromantic.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Like we're getting married in a few weeks and you've
- 9:23Speaker 1: bought me a shower caddy. The shit presents beginners, husband
- 9:26Speaker 1: and wife. Yeah. Yeah, now we're nearly three years married
- 9:29Speaker 1: and we've decided not to give each other a gift
- 9:31Speaker 1: and just buy a bed. But, yeah, I was terrible.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Like I can't hide it and actually like I don't
- 9:37Speaker 1: know why. One of my love languages must be gifts
- 9:40Speaker 1: because when people aren't thoughtful, like I actually felt like crying. Well,
- 9:44Speaker 1: Dale said the other day and I don't know if
- 9:46Speaker 1: he was joking, we were talking about how for my car–
- 9:49Speaker 1: we need to put a better sunshade up for Harry.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Oh yeah. And he said something like, I've purchased it
- 9:54Speaker 1: for you for Christmas. And I was like, that's not
- 9:57Speaker 1: a Christmas present. i said what and i said that's
- 9:59Speaker 1: not a christmas present i said he's your son too
- 10:02Speaker 1: so the shirt's for him it's not it might be
- 10:04Speaker 1: going yeah and he's like and he's like oh no
- 10:07Speaker 1: i'll just give it to you then i was like
- 10:08Speaker 1: wait sorry like see i suppose it depends how you
- 10:12Speaker 1: grow up like i think Rhys is really into like
- 10:15Speaker 1: practical gifts. And then I've tried to be more practical
- 10:18Speaker 1: with his gifts because it's so difficult. He is born
- 10:20Speaker 1: on the 14th of December. So I've got to work
- 10:23Speaker 1: out a Christmas gift and a birthday gift. And you
- 10:24Speaker 1: can't do the same present. Like you can't do a
- 10:26Speaker 1: combined one. But then I was really practical for his
- 10:29Speaker 1: birthday present. I got him an annual membership to the
- 10:32Speaker 1: zoo so he can take Jack all the time. You
- 10:33Speaker 1: really are old, you guys, having your bed in the zoo.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I know. But I thought it was good because it's
- 10:38Speaker 1: like he told me, oh, no, don't waste your money
- 10:39Speaker 1: on me. Like we'll just spend it on Jack. And
- 10:41Speaker 1: I'm like, well. That sort of covered the basis, but
- 10:44Speaker 1: it's for him. Do you know what one of my
- 10:45Speaker 1: favorite things to do on Boxing Day is go and
- 10:48Speaker 1: watch influencers' stories or TikToks of how they have spent Christmas?
- 10:51Speaker 1: It used to be the Kardashians' Christmas Eve party that
- 10:54Speaker 1: I loved watching. But yeah, I can't wait for all
- 10:56Speaker 1: the Christmas Day vlogs to come out. Like even though
- 10:58Speaker 1: they take a while, they're so good. And I'm loving
- 11:01Speaker 1: Vlogmas this year. Well, did you hear, sorry, on that,
- 11:03Speaker 1: did you hear that Molly Mae said that she is
- 11:05Speaker 1: spending Christmas just with Tommy and his family? Yeah, I
- 11:09Speaker 1: thought that was a bit controversial. I'm sure her family
- 11:12Speaker 1: will be annoyed. Maybe it's because they didn't spend Christmas
- 11:14Speaker 1: last year together because they were broken up then. Yeah, well,
- 11:16Speaker 1: it made me think, are her family still angry at him?
- 11:19Speaker 1: But she said it was because her sister Zoe and
- 11:21Speaker 1: brother-in-law Danny have just moved into their new home. So
- 11:25Speaker 1: what I take from that is I think they do
- 11:27Speaker 1: live quite close to Molly and Tommy. Or maybe Molly
- 11:30Speaker 1: and Tommy are further away now in that new house.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But she said because her sister Zoe and brother-in-law Danny
- 11:34Speaker 1: have just built their house and moved into it. That's
- 11:38Speaker 1: why they're not doing Christmas with each other. Sounds a
- 11:40Speaker 1: bit sus. Because often the family will sleep over at
- 11:42Speaker 1: Molly's house. Oh, God. Yeah. Also, I feel like you've
- 11:46Speaker 1: got to do Christmas at the best house. Like if
- 11:48Speaker 1: you've got a rich relative that's got the standout house,
- 11:52Speaker 1: you should have it there. Yeah, 100%. Like at our
- 11:54Speaker 1: auntie and uncle's coach house. Yeah. Like if you guys
- 11:59Speaker 1: had some fuck-off like $ 5 million mansion– I'd be having
- 12:03Speaker 1: Christmas there. I'd be sleeping over there. I'd be spending
- 12:06Speaker 1: the lead up to Christmas there. Yeah. Slightly different topic,
- 12:09Speaker 1: but how have you gone with organising Harry's Christmas gifts?
- 12:13Speaker 1: I'm stressing about it because everyone keeps asking me as well, like,
- 12:15Speaker 1: what should I get for Harry? And I don't know,
- 12:19Speaker 1: just to put it out there, this is pre-recorded, obviously.
- 12:21Speaker 1: We're recording on the 18th of December. So you obviously,
- 12:25Speaker 1: you probably can't order anything. Have you seen the gift
- 12:27Speaker 1: guides on TikTok? Yes, I watched a few of them.
- 12:30Speaker 1: So what I'm thinking is I want something practical. So
- 12:32Speaker 1: he's getting a ball pit, like a boucle ball pit
- 12:36Speaker 1: from mum and dad as one of his presents. I've
- 12:39Speaker 1: got him some clothes. I've got him like a really
- 12:41Speaker 1: cute country road jumper and some little country road socks
- 12:44Speaker 1: that are on sale. I'm thinking of getting him some
- 12:47Speaker 1: soft play stuff, but I was doing my research the
- 12:49Speaker 1: other night and I just couldn't find anything I liked.
- 12:52Speaker 1: It's expensive as well. It was either like $ 600 for
- 12:54Speaker 1: some soft play stuff that looked cool or it was
- 12:57Speaker 1: like some really garish bright colors that came up. This
- 12:59Speaker 1: is what I found difficult because I thought I'd already
- 13:02Speaker 1: purchased all of Jack's presents. You know, I've spent quite
- 13:05Speaker 1: a bit on them. And then when I put them out,
- 13:07Speaker 1: I'm like, this doesn't look like a lot because obviously,
- 13:08Speaker 1: you know, you've got FC's gift too. And then like,
- 13:11Speaker 1: I'm like, well, do I need to get him more? Like,
- 13:13Speaker 1: do I need to go down to, Kmart and get
- 13:15Speaker 1: him some sort of cheaper stocking stuffers. But then I'm like,
- 13:19Speaker 1: he's going to get so much from everyone else. I
- 13:21Speaker 1: saw this TikTok and it was like, if you're second
- 13:24Speaker 1: guessing how many presents you've given your kids, don't give
- 13:26Speaker 1: them any more. And it showed their house and it
- 13:28Speaker 1: was just like chaos. True. That's actually a really good
- 13:31Speaker 1: point because we got him a sort of bigger ticket item.
- 13:33Speaker 1: It was like a Yoto player. Oh yeah. So I
- 13:36Speaker 1: like to have, it's sort of a selfish present because
- 13:38Speaker 1: I kind of want to have my phone back because
- 13:40Speaker 1: I'm in the stage where he has to be listening
- 13:43Speaker 1: to music whilst eating breakfast or in the car. But
- 13:46Speaker 1: then that means I can't like talk on the phone
- 13:48Speaker 1: to you or, you know, listen to a podcast or
- 13:50Speaker 1: something like in my headphones because It's a gift to
- 13:53Speaker 1: you and him. Yeah, and it's apparently really good because
- 13:55Speaker 1: they can pick their own song and skip them and
- 13:57Speaker 1: all that sort of stuff. So I'm excited for him
- 13:59Speaker 1: to get that. Well, you were talking about that and
- 14:00Speaker 1: I was like, I might just buy Harry a CD player.
- 14:03Speaker 1: But this one's portable and you can take– You can
- 14:06Speaker 1: get portable CD players? Yeah, but then you've got to
- 14:07Speaker 1: get CDs. Yeah. Do they even sell them anymore? They
- 14:10Speaker 1: don't get them at op shops. Yeah, but you've got
- 14:11Speaker 1: to listen to that crap a lot. Like I would
- 14:14Speaker 1: just get in the O2 player. I've got my AirPods.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I want to get into some quickfire would you rather
- 14:19Speaker 1: Christmas style questions. So Kate. Would you rather host every
- 14:23Speaker 1: year or never host again? Host every year. What about you? Yeah,
- 14:28Speaker 1: I think I'd rather host every year. I love it.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Would you rather cook or clean? Cook, definitely. Like a
- 14:34Speaker 1: million times over. I was going to say cooking and cleaning. Yeah,
- 14:37Speaker 1: I could do both normally. Would you rather no presents
- 14:41Speaker 1: or no food? It's funny because I was just saying
- 14:44Speaker 1: that presents are part of my love language. But does
- 14:46Speaker 1: that mean no presents for me? I think it means
- 14:48Speaker 1: no presents in general. I think you've got to go.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Keep the presents then because I think that's what makes
- 14:54Speaker 1: it most special for kids. What's everyone doing? Yeah, but
- 14:57Speaker 1: kids don't care about the food as much. Like I
- 14:59Speaker 1: think the magic of Christmas is Santa and presents. Like
- 15:01Speaker 1: I think if that was gone. I mean, if it
- 15:03Speaker 1: was just presents for me, I'd pick food. Yeah, I'd
- 15:05Speaker 1: forgo presents for me. Like I'd have the food instead.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Would you rather Christmas at home or away? So overseas somewhere.
- 15:12Speaker 1: I'd love to do a white Christmas at some point,
- 15:13Speaker 1: but I'd have to have all my family there. Like
- 15:16Speaker 1: if my family wasn't there, but definitely at home. Like
- 15:18Speaker 1: I think it would be cool to do it once,
- 15:21Speaker 1: but I think that even though, say if you went
- 15:24Speaker 1: to New York or London for a white Christmas, I
- 15:28Speaker 1: still don't think it would feel Christmassy, even though that
- 15:31Speaker 1: is like the epitome of Christmas vibes because we're so
- 15:33Speaker 1: used to summer Christmases. Do you know what I'd prefer
- 15:35Speaker 1: to do? If I was wanting to have a white Christmas,
- 15:37Speaker 1: I'd prefer to go like maybe for like a week
- 15:42Speaker 1: over there or two weeks but in the lead up
- 15:43Speaker 1: to Christmas and then have Christmas Day at home. True.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Brandon's family, I remember one year they went to Bali. Yeah,
- 15:49Speaker 1: I couldn't do a Christmas in Bali like that. I
- 15:51Speaker 1: would just feel wrong. Definitely post-Christmas. What would it feel
- 15:55Speaker 1: wrong because it's so hot? Because it's fucking hot here.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I just like being at home. I like having my traditions.
- 16:01Speaker 1: I like the Christmas tree. In terms of Christmas traditions,
- 16:04Speaker 1: are there anything that you've brought in this year now
- 16:07Speaker 1: that you are a mum? I feel like Christmas traditions
- 16:09Speaker 1: become super important when you start your own family and
- 16:12Speaker 1: it's a chance to actually create your own. Well, Harry's
- 16:15Speaker 1: only eight months, so there's not really anything that I've
- 16:17Speaker 1: brought in per se. But I think as he gets older,
- 16:20Speaker 1: I'll definitely be looking for some more Christmas traditions to
- 16:23Speaker 1: bring in. Well, you're doing a Christmas Eve box, aren't you?
- 16:25Speaker 1: We spoke about that earlier, how it was meant to be.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I literally had forgotten. It's sitting right next to me.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I've got to paint the box. I've forgotten about it. Oh,
- 16:30Speaker 1: my God. It was something I thought about. Why don't
- 16:33Speaker 1: you just save it for next year then? Yeah, maybe.
- 16:36Speaker 1: And just change it to December 1st box. It literally
- 16:38Speaker 1: says on it Christmas Eve box. That can be changed.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Paint over it. Also, I want to do one where like–
- 16:44Speaker 1: before Christmas, maybe one of his presents will be in
- 16:46Speaker 1: the box because I feel like kids get so excited
- 16:49Speaker 1: and they can't sleep. So at least give them something
- 16:51Speaker 1: on Christmas Eve. It's so cute because our mum has
- 16:53Speaker 1: absolutely spoiled our son's rotten and she's been purchasing gifts
- 16:57Speaker 1: all throughout the year. And she said that she went
- 16:59Speaker 1: to wrap them and realised that they were all books.
- 17:00Speaker 1: So she's gotten so many things that she's now been
- 17:03Speaker 1: giving them a few in the lead up to Christmas.
- 17:05Speaker 1: So she's got a book that she's already given Jack
- 17:08Speaker 1: and going to give Harry and Luke a And then
- 17:10Speaker 1: she knitted them each a Santa Claus. It is the
- 17:13Speaker 1: cutest thing ever. And it's so funny because you line
- 17:16Speaker 1: them up and they're all slightly different. It reminds me
- 17:19Speaker 1: of the three of us, like identical, but there's slight differences. Oh,
- 17:22Speaker 1: they're so cute. I love them because my Nana made
- 17:24Speaker 1: me one. It's like exact same. It's gorgeous. We haven't
- 17:27Speaker 1: even discussed how much you're spending on Jack compared to
- 17:31Speaker 1: Luca and Harry, I've realized. Oh my God. Yeah, I know. Well,
- 17:33Speaker 1: I mean, the thing is, they're not really going to
- 17:34Speaker 1: chat about what we got them this year, but I
- 17:36Speaker 1: think that's important moving forward. Like one can't get a
- 17:39Speaker 1: fucking book and the other one's got like a car. Well,
- 17:43Speaker 1: normally we set a budget, like say, you know, oh,
- 17:46Speaker 1: let's spend X amount on Harry and Luca. Like if
- 17:48Speaker 1: I'm giving you a gift, you give one to Jack
- 17:50Speaker 1: that's around the same price. I'm so excited. for the
- 17:53Speaker 1: boys to open their gifts, even though like they can't
- 17:55Speaker 1: really unwrap gifts. I saw this person on TikTok. They're like,
- 17:57Speaker 1: I've spent three hours wrapping presents for my baby and
- 18:00Speaker 1: I'm going to be opening them all. It's so true.
- 18:02Speaker 1: The other night I was like trying to perfectly wrap
- 18:04Speaker 1: stuff and I'm like, this is just going to be ripped.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Like just get on with it. Stop taking it so seriously.
- 18:09Speaker 1: But I do like wrapping things nicely. I even sadly
- 18:11Speaker 1: looked up on TikTok tips for wrapping and then I'm like,
- 18:13Speaker 1: this is just too pathetic. I mean, I did watch
- 18:15Speaker 1: the Meghan Markle special and she gave some good ones
- 18:17Speaker 1: as well. Oh, just wrap a bottle of wine in
- 18:19Speaker 1: a scarf. Yeah. We had a very specific question come through, Amy.
- 18:23Speaker 1: It's directed at you. Someone asked, I'm still on the
- 18:25Speaker 1: hunt for a Christmas snow globe with the moving train
- 18:28Speaker 1: inside it that I saw in one of your stories.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Ha ha. Not a question, but I loved it. Yes,
- 18:32Speaker 1: I remember getting a message about this on my Instagram.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Did you not reply? No, I replied, but they're not
- 18:38Speaker 1: from Adelaide. Oh, so she can't get it. Yeah, so
- 18:40Speaker 1: it's from the Christmas shop in Adelaide, which is on
- 18:42Speaker 1: Goodwood Road at, I believe, Cumberland Park. Oh, that is
- 18:45Speaker 1: the best shop. Every year I'm like, I'm going to
- 18:47Speaker 1: go in there, but then I end up just driving past. Well,
- 18:50Speaker 1: I've told this story on the podcast, but for those
- 18:52Speaker 1: who haven't heard it, I went in there the other
- 18:54Speaker 1: day and this guy said that they had a couple
- 18:57Speaker 1: come in and spend like, I think it was like
- 19:00Speaker 1: $ 15, 000 just on Christmas decorations in one hit. Oh my God,
- 19:03Speaker 1: that's insane. Yeah, it was like getting huge nutcrackers and everything.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I dream to be that wealthy at Christmas time. Like
- 19:09Speaker 1: I'm not someone that's like all about money, but when
- 19:11Speaker 1: it comes to Christmas time, I'm like, I wish I
- 19:13Speaker 1: was wealthy because I would just love to go nuts
- 19:14Speaker 1: on the Christmas decorations. You know, when they say, oh,
- 19:16Speaker 1: if you ever won Lotto, there'd be signs. Yeah, there
- 19:19Speaker 1: would be. Like I'd have fucking like seven foot high
- 19:20Speaker 1: nutcrackers out the front of my house. I think that's
- 19:23Speaker 1: like a 10 meter inflatable gingerbread man that looks like
- 19:26Speaker 1: ginger candy from Shrek. I'd have that. Would you? Actually,
- 19:29Speaker 1: that might be a bit garish. Would you have someone
- 19:32Speaker 1: come in to do your Christmas tree? Like you know
- 19:34Speaker 1: how Molly Mays had her Christmas tree perfectly designed? I
- 19:37Speaker 1: was thinking about this the other day. Because I have
- 19:39Speaker 1: Harry now, it took me forever to put my Christmas
- 19:41Speaker 1: decorations up. I actually think I would pay somebody and
- 19:44Speaker 1: I'd have one tree that maybe I'd decorate myself. See,
- 19:47Speaker 1: if you're filthy rich though, you probably have a nanny. Oh, no. Yeah.
- 19:52Speaker 1: I don't know. Yeah. The thing is, if you were,
- 19:55Speaker 1: if you've got a nanny, then why, why would you
- 19:57Speaker 1: feel bad about paying someone to decorate your house? No,
- 19:59Speaker 1: but I like putting the Christmas tree up, but in
- 20:01Speaker 1: saying that I will. Small things like I, like for example,
- 20:03Speaker 1: Dale has done an amazing job at the lights outside
- 20:05Speaker 1: this year. But would I pay a professional to do
- 20:08Speaker 1: it next year to save Dale if I won the lottery?
- 20:10Speaker 1: Of course I would. Oh yeah, the thing, oh yeah,
- 20:12Speaker 1: I can't stand stringing up Christmas lights or taking them down.
- 20:15Speaker 1: And also like it's hard to store decorations. So for example,
- 20:18Speaker 1: the seven foot nutcrackers that I want, I mean, I
- 20:20Speaker 1: suppose if I won the lotto, I'd have a huge store. Oh,
- 20:22Speaker 1: but they'd probably be rented, let's be honest. Have you
- 20:24Speaker 1: seen those mega rich people who they build a house
- 20:27Speaker 1: and they specifically build a cupboard into the wall to
- 20:30Speaker 1: wheel out their like 10 meter high Christmas tree? No,
- 20:33Speaker 1: but do they keep the decorations on it? Yes, so
- 20:35Speaker 1: it literally just, I'm sure you've seen them. No. They
- 20:38Speaker 1: literally just push it back in. It's like on wheels, decorated.
- 20:41Speaker 1: It's amazing. Okay, so this woman wasn't filthy rich but
- 20:45Speaker 1: it was just a regular Christmas tree but apparently she
- 20:47Speaker 1: had like a thousand ornaments on it or something and
- 20:49Speaker 1: she saw, yeah, must have seen something similar where you
- 20:52Speaker 1: wrap the tree in cling wrap and then so you
- 20:55Speaker 1: don't have to decorate it again. I was like. Don't
- 20:57Speaker 1: like that. That's apparent. That's apparent. Yeah, but I feel
- 21:00Speaker 1: like the tree would be all squashed. It's like this
- 21:02Speaker 1: year with mum and dad's Balsam Hill tree, dad, accidentally
- 21:05Speaker 1: folded the branches the wrong way and the tree looks
- 21:07Speaker 1: a bit wonky it kind of looks like and then
- 21:09Speaker 1: what is it like the English Christmas tree I'm actually
- 21:12Speaker 1: cut because I love my Christmas tree but I saw
- 21:15Speaker 1: Sophie Jane Miller's got the real European fur one and
- 21:19Speaker 1: I'm like I kind of wish I bought that just
- 21:20Speaker 1: for a bit of a difference that as a secondary
- 21:22Speaker 1: tree yeah see I'm so disappointed because I have a
- 21:25Speaker 1: small balsam hill tree and Kate you'll realize I mean
- 21:28Speaker 1: my office is an absolute tip but you notice it's
- 21:30Speaker 1: not up this year because where is my cat Winnie
- 21:33Speaker 1: She's already chewed through one section of lights on our
- 21:37Speaker 1: main Christmas tree and tried to like. Has Dale fixed
- 21:39Speaker 1: it though? Not yet. He's an electrician. He'll be able
- 21:41Speaker 1: to fix it, but he hasn't had time to fix
- 21:43Speaker 1: it yet. But I've got the little one and I
- 21:44Speaker 1: was too scared to bring it in because she kept
- 21:46Speaker 1: climbing in. Could you put it outside for Christmas? Yeah,
- 21:48Speaker 1: we'll be putting it outside. Okay. Well, I think that's
- 21:52Speaker 1: where we're going to wrap things up. I think we
- 21:54Speaker 1: would bloody talk about Christmas for another 30 minutes, but
- 21:57Speaker 1: I'm sure you've got things to do. Things to cook. Well,
- 22:00Speaker 1: I've definitely got things to do today. I'll be running
- 22:03Speaker 1: around the kitchen, I think, between looking after a small child.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I don't know if anyone actually picked up on it,
- 22:08Speaker 1: but Kate and I have children. We've become those annoying
- 22:10Speaker 1: people that just talk about how hard it is to
- 22:12Speaker 1: be a mum and having children and whatnot. Well, I'm
- 22:14Speaker 1: sure there are some other mums listening that are nodding
- 22:16Speaker 1: their heads in ignorance. Well, that is where we're going
- 22:18Speaker 1: to leave things today, but we hope you have an
- 22:20Speaker 1: absolutely amazing Christmas. We will be back in your ears
- 22:23Speaker 1: for a subs episode, so if you're desperate for content,
- 22:26Speaker 1: that will be dropping on Thursday. Which is Christmas Day,
- 22:29Speaker 1: so actually maybe we'll put it out on Boxing Day.
- 22:31Speaker 1: I think probably you don't need an episode on Christmas Day.
- 22:33Speaker 1: And we'll also be back in your ears next week
- 22:35Speaker 1: with fresh episodes. If you did enjoy this podcast, we'd
- 22:38Speaker 1: love if you could leave us a five-star review. This
- 22:41Speaker 1: episode was recorded on the traditional land of the Kaurna
- 22:44Speaker 1: people of the Adelaide Plains. We pay respect to elders
- 22:46Speaker 1: past and present.
