- 0:16SPEAKER_00: Hi, welcome back to my podcast, The Bougie Multipreneur.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: I'm Hillary.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Today I want to talk a little bit about growing and watering your business.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Um, if you're a business owner like myself or want to be in business, or you have some little side hustle, I have some great just short tips and ideas for you.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Many of them you probably already know, but it's always a great refresher, I think, to hear what people are doing for their business and growing it.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: So one thing I'm a huge fan of, and I tell my business coaching clients this all the time, is make sure you're getting out there and telling people about your business.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: It just doesn't work to stay cooped up all the time inside, but like going to um events where you could set up a table and like be a vendor, or I mean, it could literally be as simple as you find things that you enjoy doing, like book club.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: And maybe you join some book clubs, maybe you host a book club or a book exchange.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: And it doesn't necessarily have to be something that you're trying to sell your business at.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: But the more that you put out into the universe that you are out there, you're you are trying to grow your business, you are watering your business, the more the universe will respond.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So I think one of the main steps that we all need to do, especially if you're in a new business role, is get out there, go to events, you know, be a participant at events.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Heck, maybe it could be even like a painting party, but go there, introduce yourself, introduce your business.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: And when people ask about it, talk to them about it.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: But yes, we are open and we are growing and always open to new opportunities.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Or I'd love to help host something, or maybe my new business could be a sponsor at your next book club or painting class or jewelry exchange.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: I mean, always think about other ways that you can get your name out there.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: And it doesn't always have to be something super expensive, but I really feel that the more that you talk about your business with people that you meet, with strangers, the more that you are inviting more business and opportunities into your life.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: So while I do love social media, I do think that we can't always just hide behind the screen.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And I could be wrong, I could be dependent on a business.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: But um, for someone that needs interaction with people, um, as you know, I'm a chiropractor, I have a couple of chiropractic offices.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: I also do business consulting.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And then I own a few, about seven rental properties, as well as an event center.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: These types of things require me to get out and meet people and get the word out about all these types of businesses that I own.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: I can't just sit behind and wait for things to come to me.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: I need to be avidly like going out there and talking about them, marketing, telling people what I have to offer.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: I'm getting just, you know, just the talking about it in general.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I really feel that the universe responds.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: So make sure that you are out there saying, yes, we're growing, and yes, I'm open to opportunities to help expand.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: Sometimes I like to think of different ways I can interact with different businesses because it doesn't mean that, for instance, as a chiropractor, that I necessarily want every single person I meet to be a patient of mine.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: I maybe I don't, you know, maybe I'm busy enough already and I don't need to say like I need all these new patients, but I might want to get the word out there about my practice or how we're different or about my rental facility.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: There's just a lot of things that you can get out there.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: And most importantly, it's how can you help other people and other businesses, right?
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, I always go into scenarios and interactions of how can I help them because I really feel that what goes around comes around.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: And I am more than happy to make introductions, to make connections, to formulate like events and networking things together.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: But I know that at some point it will come back around to me.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: So it's not always a me, me, or what am I going to get by doing this event with them?
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: It's how can you help others, which will in turn help you?
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: I know we all feel that way.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: I have um at least a few coaching clients that are like, you know, I am an introvert.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: I just don't really want to get out there and meet people.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: I totally get it.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: I'm actually an extrovert, if you guys hadn't noticed, but I understand what it's like since I do have people around me and family members that are introverts.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: I understand how uh intimidating and anxiety-ridden it could make you feel to go out and do these um events and networking things and ribbon cuttings and just different pop-up type of events.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: I totally get it.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: You could pick and choose which ones are the best for you to go to.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: But have you also thought about sending someone in your place?
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: There's gotta be an extrovert out there that is your match that would love to go to these events, that loves you or your business, and would love to talk to people and you know, just interact on your behalf.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: You could call like a business representative, someone that can go do all the things you wouldn't want to do.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: And if you're thinking, well, I don't know what it is that I don't want to do, make a list.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Make a list of all the things that you enjoy doing and all the things you don't enjoy doing, and then visualize a person that you could hire to do some of these things.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: They may actually love to go out there.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: It would be a great job for someone that's an extrovert to part-time go to these like openings, ceremonies, ribbon cuttings, open businesses, to go to different groups and network, you know, to join a book club, to join a painting class, anything like that, you know, a running club.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: So it doesn't always have to be you.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: And so I know when we are business owners, that it is like another child to us and we want to take control of it, or maybe that's just me, the type A that I am, but maybe you feel that way too, and you don't know if you can relinquish control, or is that person gonna adequately uh portray your business on your behalf?
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: I bet you could find someone.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And the more that you put that out in the universe, that you are looking for someone like that, and you make a list of the qualities this person would have, that person will come to you, or you will think you know someone, or it'll be a customer that you already have or a family member.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: But it doesn't always have to be you.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: So again, I'm a huge fan of going to events, getting out there, talking about my businesses.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: And it doesn't have to be that you know, I'm a spot, a huge sponsor for everything, but I'll go to the different galas and maybe I'm a sponsor, maybe I'm not, but I'm still gonna go there and meet people.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: And you just never know who you meet.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Um, definitely don't leave an event thinking, oh, I didn't meet enough people, or I didn't get enough cards, or I didn't sign up one person for my business or one new patient for me.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: It's not really about that.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: It's just, you know, helping people, enjoying, sending like love and light out.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: So rethink maybe some strategies for your business to get your name out there more.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Think, can you hire someone to do some of this like um extrovert type things if you maybe you don't want, or maybe you just don't have a lot of time?
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Like, who could you hire to help get your name out there more?
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: Um, always be open to opportunities and thinking of ways to grow or network together with different businesses, or especially if it's a new business and you're not a new business, um, take help them quote, take them under your wing.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, how can I help you?
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: Can I create an event to help you or to showcase you, or can I introduce you to any of these other business owners that you might collab well with?
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: There's always something, you know, be thinking about what it is.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: And when you ask them if there's any way that you can work with them and help them, I say more often than not, they say, no, I'm good, but thanks.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: So I like to have an idea like, oh, would you like to be on my podcast and talk about business?
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Would you like to be in my special Facebook group and talk about your business?
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: Would you like to be in my email newsletter blast?
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: Like, try to think about things that you ways that you can help them because often a lot of people, and I'm sure like I've been guilty of it, I'm like, oh no, I'm good.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: Thanks, right?
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: But if someone's asking, um, make sure that you have something to say in return.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: So I'm always ready about if someone asks, hey Hillary, how can I help you with your business?
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: I'll say, Oh, can you do X, Y, and Z?
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: That would be great.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And how can I help you?
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: So people want to help people and um always be ready and willing to take the help that people give you.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Sometimes that's hard to take the help, right?
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: And also, what can you do for them or the next person down the road and the next, you know, the next 10 people down the road for all that matters?
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, what goes around comes around.
- 9:30SPEAKER_00: I'm a huge believer in that.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: One little last tip that I do that a lot of my uh coaching clients don't know about, and I I reiterate this a lot is we get a lot of like Google reviews, and people find us on Google all the time when I ask.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: So I have a Google My Business setup.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: It is kind of like a social media platform now, if you haven't noticed, where you put like updates on there and events and everything.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: I try to go on there, if not every day, at least a couple times a week and post an update or a picture or an event that we're doing for my um chiropractic offices.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: But then what I also do is I go when I'm going to different places locally, I will sign in in the uh Google Maps under the business name, and I will leave reviews for that business under my like chiropractic business name.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: So I feel like the name my business name gets out there when people are reading reviews too.
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: So for instance, we go to a bagel place nearby and I get bagels for my staff.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: And so I left a review on how great their staff is at the bagel place and just commented how great it is to come in and get bagels for my staff and how much we love fresh bagels in the morning from this place.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: So I kind of tie it in.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: They love pictures attached, so I try to take pictures, and then I feel like you know, even though they don't ask me to do those reviews, giving great Google reviews will come back.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: If you guys have ever had a bad Google review, you know that a lot of times it's not even true or warranted.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: So I try to go above and beyond to give out the five star Google reviews to other businesses, even with them not asking, because again, what goes around comes around.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: I hope you're having a great day.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: I hope you're making money, and I hope that you're gonna be a money magnet.
