- 0:37Speaker 1: and we'll do our five favorite games of Week number
- 0:40Speaker 1: twelve coming up later on in the show. But right now,
- 0:44Speaker 1: who are some camp sleepers that we're looking at. We'll
- 0:47Speaker 1: talk to Adam Kappa from the Inside of the Birds
- 0:49Speaker 1: podcast right now on the Sports Bash.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Adam, Happy Friday to you.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Same to you, Mike. And by the way, do we
- 0:55Speaker 3: deal with the Eagles play Week twelve? I'm just curious
- 0:58Speaker 3: they may have a game.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Man, they play Week twelve. They are playing the Dallas Cowboys.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Oh that maybe that makes it that would make my last.
- 1:06Speaker 2: No, no, uh no, these are the five. The Friday
- 1:09Speaker 2: five is.
- 1:09Speaker 1: The five non Eagles games that we are interested in
- 1:13Speaker 1: the most.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Oh and then what we do.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Is when week twelve comes around in the regular season,
- 1:19Speaker 1: we'll look back at these five games and see if
- 1:22Speaker 1: they're still the five best games of the week.
- 1:24Speaker 3: You know, it's funny, do you just eliminate right off
- 1:26Speaker 3: the cuff, the.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Cardinals, Yes, the brown always.
- 1:29Speaker 3: It seems like that they have no chance to be
- 1:31Speaker 3: on there.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Always.
- 1:33Speaker 1: It's always funny that, you know, and there's a lot
- 1:36Speaker 1: of times Josha will tell you, I'm always like, this
- 1:38Speaker 1: week's schedules tough. Like there, it's hard to five five
- 1:41Speaker 1: games because we don't include the Thursday night game because
- 1:44Speaker 1: we do it on Friday. So then sometimes that eliminate,
- 1:46Speaker 1: you know, you eliminate that game. But it's hard to
- 1:49Speaker 1: find five really good games every single week on these schedules.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I call it. I call it Cardinals, the team
- 1:56Speaker 3: that time forgot. They're like the La Clipper.
- 1:57Speaker 2: They were entertaining last night.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Well yeah, I know, but I always game one of
- 2:04Speaker 3: of four preseason games because in the Hall of Fame game,
- 2:06Speaker 3: it was entertaining, but no one naturally cares about the Cardinals.
- 2:10Speaker 3: They're just not going to get It's just since Kurt
- 2:13Speaker 3: Warner retired, it's been obviously on a steady decline. The
- 2:17Speaker 3: Bruce Arians had a little bit of a run, but
- 2:19Speaker 3: it's like the Texas Rangers, right, they're just some teams
- 2:21Speaker 3: no one naturally cares about, as I've called them teams
- 2:24Speaker 3: the time forgot.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I know that the Rangers did win a World Series recently,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and the Cardinals did make a Super Bowl in my lifetime,
- 2:31Speaker 1: but it might be a very long.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Term war, yes, Warner.
- 2:36Speaker 1: So they were a sleeper that year, the Cardinals. Who
- 2:39Speaker 1: are some of the sleepers for the Eagles that you're
- 2:41Speaker 1: keeping an eye on in this training camp.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Yeah, so, Mike, what we do is we take what
- 2:47Speaker 3: we learn in OTA, so then you know we always
- 2:49Speaker 3: call at least I do it. I came out with
- 2:51Speaker 3: this many years ago. I call OTA's like double a baseball.
- 2:55Speaker 3: You know, you just knowe stuff, but it means really
- 2:57Speaker 3: next to nothing. You just you want to show. Okay,
- 2:59Speaker 3: it's flag football. A lot of seven on seven factors
- 3:02Speaker 3: are very lay. You don't take it seriously, Like all
- 3:05Speaker 3: I have to tell you is Keey Ringole was a
- 3:07Speaker 3: OTA champion. That's all you need to know. How about
- 3:08Speaker 3: little OTAs mean, just you know, you take it. You
- 3:12Speaker 3: see what the competition's like. This is trip a baseball
- 3:14Speaker 3: right now, that starts to get real and we'll get
- 3:16Speaker 3: started with our turning camp. Sleepers on offense. Now, look
- 3:20Speaker 3: you could call it Darius Cooper when you're wonder well. Look,
- 3:23Speaker 3: Cooper made the team. He was a great story, no
- 3:26Speaker 3: question for the Eagles. But Syriani talked about it, Mike,
- 3:29Speaker 3: Like last year, right the passing game went through AJ Brown,
- 3:33Speaker 3: Devonte Smith, Dallas Scoddard. How much was a backup receiver
- 3:37Speaker 3: going to get the football? No matter how well he played,
- 3:40Speaker 3: he could be the fourth receiver, He's not getting the football.
- 3:43Speaker 3: So Darius Cooper is having another great camp. He's a
- 3:46Speaker 3: former quarterback. Okay, he came to Charlton State. Mic. Most
- 3:50Speaker 3: people don't know this as a quarterback. One of the
- 3:53Speaker 3: coaches told him, look on offense, said, look, you're not
- 3:56Speaker 3: going to make it here as a quarterback. You might
- 3:57Speaker 3: as well try it now in a position, how about receiver. Sure,
- 4:00Speaker 3: I'll do that. And what he did was and more
- 4:04Speaker 3: power to him. He like Greg O still mentioned this.
- 4:09Speaker 3: He was listed as one ninety. But Greg called me
- 4:12Speaker 3: last summer he said, hey, did this guy put some
- 4:14Speaker 3: weight on? I watched them the t in h on
- 4:18Speaker 3: the Preseas tape. He goes yeah. I said, yeay, he
- 4:19Speaker 3: put on fifteen pounds. He's jacked. He looks great. But again,
- 4:24Speaker 3: Mike this year, now Ig Brown's gone. We'll see about
- 4:27Speaker 3: Makayle Lemon once he's ready, but it's going to be
- 4:30Speaker 3: DeVante Smith do TV and Wickson Makayle Lemon. So even
- 4:34Speaker 3: if even if Cooper beats out Hollywood Brown for the
- 4:38Speaker 3: fourth receiver job, he's not going to get the football.
- 4:41Speaker 3: It doesn't mean he doesn't help them as an inside
- 4:43Speaker 3: announside receiver on special teams. But he's had a great
- 4:46Speaker 3: camp and I just want people to understand that just
- 4:49Speaker 3: because he the guy might not catch a lot of passes,
- 4:51Speaker 3: he's still is going to have a role. And by way,
- 4:54Speaker 3: if somebody gets hurt, then he moves up.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Cooper was the kind of the you know back of
- 4:58Speaker 1: the day, Remember it was like, mister Lee, you have
- 5:00Speaker 1: a hank basket.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Guys who were receiving, well, nothing like that.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Paul Paul Turner of a Paul Turner who So, Jeff
- 5:09Speaker 3: and I did a show I don't know, two or
- 5:11Speaker 3: three weeks ago before training kept started, and we you
- 5:14Speaker 3: know he called it the Lee Heisman's you know, Jeff
- 5:16Speaker 3: Keppo fent line, which it's just like the greatest thing
- 5:18Speaker 3: I ever heard, you know, Lee High, Lee High when
- 5:21Speaker 3: it was practiced at Lee High, and guys would stand out,
- 5:24Speaker 3: And Paul Turner was a guy that I told people
- 5:29Speaker 3: great hands. Can't run a lot, He'll never make it.
- 5:31Speaker 3: He can't run. But the problem is when you're in
- 5:34Speaker 3: training camp, you're not seeing press coverage. You can't tackle anyone,
- 5:39Speaker 3: you can't hit anybody. Guys look better than they were.
- 5:42Speaker 3: Henry Josie, another one, Mike, who are Andrew to checker
- 5:46Speaker 3: Interview's got a great interview? Was he? I can't believe
- 5:50Speaker 3: Henry Josie said this. Dandrew, I still get people emailing me.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Why was that cut? Can you believe that there was
- 5:56Speaker 3: twenty fifteen.
- 5:57Speaker 1: That's great years ago? Was a guy that they liked
- 6:01Speaker 1: last year. He's back, He's got some time last year
- 6:04Speaker 1: and he might help this team out. What about another receiver?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Anybody else you're keeping an eye on.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Yeah, this guy, I don't think he did much in
- 6:12Speaker 3: OTA's and he was a former second round pick for
- 6:14Speaker 3: the Jets who was tremendous early in his career. That's
- 6:17Speaker 3: Elijah Mitchell. He wanted out, he asked out, he got
- 6:19Speaker 3: traded and he shouldn't have. Well, he didn't want to
- 6:22Speaker 3: play with Zack Wilson was terrible. But he should have
- 6:25Speaker 3: stayed there and hung in there and play with Karat Wilson.
- 6:27Speaker 3: He didn't want too, and he's following. He's now on
- 6:29Speaker 3: the fifth team, but he's only like twenty six years old.
- 6:33Speaker 3: It's crazy. Well, he had a great camp.
- 6:36Speaker 1: You just said it like he's played in bad offenses
- 6:39Speaker 1: with bad quarterbacks like is coming here now. He did
- 6:42Speaker 1: play Buffalo last year and that didn't help him, So
- 6:45Speaker 1: take that for what it's worth.
- 6:48Speaker 3: Right, But it wasn't like he was I'd have to
- 6:50Speaker 3: check the dates when he signed there. Contacts always matters,
- 6:53Speaker 3: like when was he signing? What kind of chance was
- 6:54Speaker 3: he given? But he's given a significant chance here that
- 6:57Speaker 3: Eagles don't have quality depth. They have enough players, but
- 7:00Speaker 3: the quality the depth isn't great. It's going to be
- 7:03Speaker 3: hard for him but the good thing is he plays
- 7:05Speaker 3: two out of the three receiver positions. He plays the
- 7:08Speaker 3: slot and the Z position. The Z is done DeVante
- 7:10Speaker 3: Smith's position, so he could be a backup to DeVante.
- 7:15Speaker 3: He can. But the one thing that goes against him,
- 7:17Speaker 3: he doesn't give you special teams, and that's going to
- 7:19Speaker 3: be hard for him.
- 7:20Speaker 1: All Right, there's a couple of skilled players on offense.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Who else are you looking at on offense?
- 7:25Speaker 3: Andrew Andrew are Andrew Checker to Checko pointed this guy,
- 7:29Speaker 3: this guy out, We knew about him, but he did
- 7:33Speaker 3: a lot of work on him. He mentioned that Jake Maker,
- 7:37Speaker 3: Jake Major's watch out for this guy. He's getting reps
- 7:40Speaker 3: at center and guard, and wouldn't you know it, last
- 7:45Speaker 3: three or four practices they've they've crosschain across trained. Excuse me,
- 7:52Speaker 3: Drew Kendall at Actually he's Mike. Drew Ketle's got work
- 7:56Speaker 3: at both guard spots, either in training camp or in OTAs.
- 7:59Speaker 3: And he's not getting many reps at center, so they
- 8:04Speaker 3: already know what Drew Kennell is. He's really a center
- 8:06Speaker 3: that you're trying of trust cross training at guard. But
- 8:09Speaker 3: this Jake Majors is and this is what he is
- 8:11Speaker 3: is what someone in scouting told me. He's undersized in
- 8:15Speaker 3: terms of bulk center. He's not a good athlete, but
- 8:19Speaker 3: he's really smart and he's detailed, and he doesn't make
- 8:22Speaker 3: a lot of mistakes, and he's giving himself some value here, Mike. Now,
- 8:26Speaker 3: as I was telling Andrew, the key for him, he
- 8:28Speaker 3: must be terrific in the preseason games. If he's not,
- 8:34Speaker 3: he's not going to make it because how many backup
- 8:36Speaker 3: centers do you really need? But he has played guard
- 8:39Speaker 3: in his career. He's at University of Texas. Guy started
- 8:42Speaker 3: a lot of games at college. He's been a good story, Mike,
- 8:45Speaker 3: watch out for Jake Majors all right.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Obviously, the Eagles offensive line last year had all sorts
- 8:51Speaker 1: of problems, and they didn't have great depth on that
- 8:54Speaker 1: line last year. So there's going to have to be
- 8:57Speaker 1: better depth on the line this year in case, especially
- 8:59Speaker 1: if they have some interesting I think Cam Jurgens did
- 9:01Speaker 1: leave the field today.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Now. I think Nick.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Sirianni said he's expecting Lane Johnson back tomorrow because Mark
- 9:08Speaker 1: al Bell has been getting a lot of reps.
- 9:10Speaker 3: But he was there today. Yeah, he was actually there today.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Lane was there today.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Okay, so we spoke before the practice.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Gotcha, Yeah, yeah, he was, he was, he was getting
- 9:18Speaker 3: he was doing some stuff he was seeing at the
- 9:21Speaker 3: practice today, Yes, all.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Right, before we moved to defense. Anybody else on the
- 9:24Speaker 1: offense that stands out?
- 9:26Speaker 3: Yeah, this guy? And then I pointed him out in
- 9:28Speaker 3: o Tas. I didn't know much about him. I know
- 9:30Speaker 3: he's on and off the Titans practice squad for almost
- 9:32Speaker 3: three years, john and Joku is he's He's an undrafted
- 9:38Speaker 3: free agent out of Boise State and that's kind of
- 9:41Speaker 3: a high profile school and he started a bunch of games.
- 9:45Speaker 3: He was a five time academic All conference player. So
- 9:49Speaker 3: how does this guy not get drifted? And how did
- 9:52Speaker 3: the Titans, who had a bad offensive line figures and
- 9:55Speaker 3: not keep this guy's a developmental backup left tackle. Well,
- 9:58Speaker 3: the Eagles don't know who their backup left tackle is
- 10:00Speaker 3: long term. I win to Fred Johnson's the top backup
- 10:03Speaker 3: left right for least this season, as Marko Bell could
- 10:07Speaker 3: push him out of the backup right tackle job. So
- 10:11Speaker 3: Joku has been a great story. He's really athletic, i'll see,
- 10:15Speaker 3: very smart, and he's getting a big run here. He's
- 10:18Speaker 3: been getting the majority of the of the backup left
- 10:22Speaker 3: tackle nic rep So Mike is one person told me
- 10:25Speaker 3: the jobs forty five for fifty three on Leaga's roster
- 10:29Speaker 3: are completely up for grabs, which is rare here. So
- 10:32Speaker 3: this kid Joku could maybe shock us and make the roster.
- 10:36Speaker 2: All right, Well, I liked h that's a good information.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Forty five through fifty three.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So these games coming up on the fifteenth, those battles
- 10:43Speaker 1: could be won there. Let's go to the defensive side
- 10:46Speaker 1: of the ball where obviously the other day Vic Fangio,
- 10:49Speaker 1: he did it make Look, we don't have a lot
- 10:51Speaker 1: of young guys that are like trying to make this team.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Their defense seemingly is pretty set. But who are some
- 10:57Speaker 1: sleepers that could earn their way onto this ruck?
- 11:01Speaker 3: Right? So, Mike, when this guy would be a sleeper
- 11:05Speaker 3: because I just didn't see him have had a chance
- 11:07Speaker 3: to make it. But aj EPINESSA, he's not making a
- 11:10Speaker 3: lot of money. One year deal for the veterm minimum,
- 11:12Speaker 3: a little bit of guarantee money, not much. His contract
- 11:15Speaker 3: will not absolutely not keep him on the roster. It's
- 11:16Speaker 3: strictly can be performance. He has stood out. Now what
- 11:21Speaker 3: got him drafted in the second round many years ago
- 11:24Speaker 3: what Buffalo was. He's such a good edge he's such
- 11:27Speaker 3: a good run defender, sets the edge. He's over six
- 11:31Speaker 3: foot five. Now they listened as two eighty Mike. There's
- 11:33Speaker 3: no way he's too eighty. It might be two fifty
- 11:35Speaker 3: five or two sixty. But they really don't need five
- 11:38Speaker 3: edge rushers. But you have to understand in Nickel he
- 11:42Speaker 3: could play inside. Ty Robinson needs to start picking it up.
- 11:47Speaker 3: He Epinessa has given them good value and Nick Siriani's
- 11:51Speaker 3: talked about him. Vic Fango has talked about him. He
- 11:54Speaker 3: has really stood out. Again, here's a guy that they
- 11:58Speaker 3: was just signed as a camp body. We thought not
- 12:00Speaker 3: so much. Man, we're gonna have to mend that. Aj Epanessa,
- 12:05Speaker 3: a former second rounder for the Bills, is pushing for
- 12:07Speaker 3: rush spot here.
- 12:08Speaker 1: All right, uh and uh, let's go to the linebacker position.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And you know the linebacker spot has been long a
- 12:15Speaker 1: blemish on this roster.
- 12:16Speaker 2: No longer. They got a ton of talent.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Yeah, they're they're super deep. They've got great young talent.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Plus the veteran Zach Bond came out of nowhere. As
- 12:24Speaker 3: we all know. So I mentioned during OTA's they said
- 12:28Speaker 3: There's a guy that has been here a little bit.
- 12:30Speaker 3: He came in last year at Chance Campbell. He looks
- 12:34Speaker 3: really good. He was really like him. Berew just backed
- 12:37Speaker 3: me up this week and he talked about it. He said,
- 12:39Speaker 3: don't sleep on him. You know, if you're kind of
- 12:41Speaker 3: what he was sitting at, if you don't have him
- 12:43Speaker 3: on the roster of the fifty three, you might be
- 12:44Speaker 3: careful about that. But it's hard to keep five inside backers.
- 12:48Speaker 3: The fifth guy. The fifth guy would only play on
- 12:50Speaker 3: special teams. Now, last year they did keep five when
- 12:53Speaker 3: Nikobe Dean came back. They kept Smile Minding, who would
- 12:57Speaker 3: only play on defense when there was a blowout. He
- 12:59Speaker 3: never really played when the games mattered. So it's hard
- 13:02Speaker 3: to do that. But I'm telling you, Mike, there are
- 13:04Speaker 3: a lot of rosher spots open. He's a real good athlete.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Chance Campbell great, great size, but it's had a terrible
- 13:10Speaker 3: injury history. The big reason why he's here is because
- 13:14Speaker 3: Bobby Kingler, the inside linebackers coach, coached his rookie season
- 13:19Speaker 3: in Tennessee. So obviously there's a familiarity and this kid's
- 13:22Speaker 3: got look, it's probably not going to happen. We don't
- 13:25Speaker 3: two percentages ever, but he's pushing Mike. He's another guy
- 13:30Speaker 3: must do well in the preseason games to have a
- 13:31Speaker 3: real shot. But these are sleepers, Mike, guys that we're
- 13:35Speaker 3: not talking about much. But we're going to give a
- 13:37Speaker 3: lot of light here, all right.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Last thing, real quick, before you mentioned Ty Robinson. You
- 13:42Speaker 1: think a guy who was a fourth round pick last
- 13:45Speaker 1: year that they would get rid of this year.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Guess what, Hawari Rismond's done it before. Donald Pumphrey. He
- 13:52Speaker 3: cut him after one season. He cut him prior to
- 13:55Speaker 3: the start of the second season. And by the way,
- 13:57Speaker 3: Donald Pumphrey went up never playing in the National FOOTBA
- 14:00Speaker 3: League fourth front pick at twenty seventeen. In our reporting
- 14:04Speaker 3: Jeff and I started this platform, is that we were
- 14:06Speaker 3: told that the coaches wonning them off the roster as
- 14:09Speaker 3: a rookie. How he said, no, we give players chances
- 14:11Speaker 3: here and how he, by the way, almost always right.
- 14:15Speaker 3: It's one of the reasons why he's been so good
- 14:18Speaker 3: is because he doesn't fly off the handle. It gives
- 14:20Speaker 3: guys a chance, as you know, my like they're in
- 14:22Speaker 3: player development. But that when he missed, he was wrong.
- 14:25Speaker 3: He wound up being way too small small. It's crazy.
- 14:29Speaker 3: He led San Diego State in history in rushing more
- 14:31Speaker 3: than Marshall Falk, but he couldn't play the National footb League.
- 14:34Speaker 1: It's crazy, all right, Adam Kaplan. By the way, I
- 14:37Speaker 1: know you're a big sixer guy. Have you seen the
- 14:38Speaker 1: Joella Lead photos?
- 14:40Speaker 3: I can't believe it. Now, Look here's the thing. I
- 14:43Speaker 3: know this someone who is heavy up in my life
- 14:46Speaker 3: up till five years ago. Your limb feels so much better, Mike.
- 14:50Speaker 3: When you get in fit, I lost forty five pounds.
- 14:52Speaker 3: I could tell you. You see me getting that weight off,
- 14:55Speaker 3: my knees, off my body. I cannot tell you how
- 14:58Speaker 3: much better it feels. I know he's only in his
- 15:00Speaker 3: early thirties, but he's got the you know, he's got
- 15:02Speaker 3: the knees of a fifty or six year old. This
- 15:05Speaker 3: is going to be fascinating, Mike. I understand. Know. I know.
- 15:08Speaker 3: People say, who's got who's got the much pressure on
- 15:10Speaker 3: him of all the athletes in our town. Yeah, now
- 15:12Speaker 3: with with Lebron and Jaylen Brown, something that pressures off
- 15:16Speaker 3: and plus it can't trade him. We'll take his contract,
- 15:18Speaker 3: but watch out, man, if he plays Mike, if he
- 15:22Speaker 3: plays fifty five games, I'd be absolutely floored. Think about
- 15:27Speaker 3: how could they be if he plays like fifty five.
- 15:30Speaker 2: I just said, I was laughing.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I said, I saw the picture and I was like,
- 15:33Speaker 1: I was like, who is this guy? It doesn't I mean,
- 15:35Speaker 1: did he This is the most significant formation that he had.
