- 0:01Speaker 1: Okay, so we've done it. Well, we've survived one game
- 0:04Speaker 1: week of the season. Welcome back to the FPL Pub,
- 0:06Speaker 1: where we're going to look back on it all. And
- 0:08Speaker 1: don't worry if you had a disastrous first game week.
- 0:10Speaker 1: We're going to sort it all out for you. A reminder,
- 0:12Speaker 1: if you haven't joined the FPL Pub Mini League, before
- 0:14Speaker 1: we go any further, the code is Q0HV1Q. Still waiting
- 0:19Speaker 1: for plenty of you to join us in there.
- 0:21Speaker 2: So looking forward to that.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Those laughs that you just heard were, of course, the
- 0:24Speaker 1: laughs of Sam Bonfield and Julian Laron.
- 0:27Speaker 2: We will get into our teams in just a moment.
- 0:30Speaker 1: And Jules had a better week again than all of us,
- 0:31Speaker 1: so he's going to be absolutely unbearable.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Some things never change.
- 0:36Speaker 3: I love this game. I love this game.
- 0:38Speaker 1: We're going to try and round up the game week, right,
- 0:40Speaker 1: and talk about the key talking points. But inevitably, our
- 0:43Speaker 1: own game week scores are going to come up, I think,
- 0:44Speaker 1: because it's just inevitable, isn't it?
- 0:47Speaker 2: Shall we start with the.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Let's actually start with the fact that the most popular captains,
- 0:52Speaker 1: Haaland and Bruno, both blanked.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Welcome back, FPL, Sam.
- 0:57Speaker 4: I know. And do you know what's really annoying is
- 0:59Speaker 4: that after I got off this and I said to
- 1:01Speaker 4: you guys last week, I was really close to the
- 1:02Speaker 4: Bruno captain and I pondered for ages. And then on
- 1:05Speaker 4: Friday afternoon, I was like, do you know what? I'm
- 1:08Speaker 4: going to say something I'm going to regret now. Maybe
- 1:10Speaker 4: Jules is right. Maybe the right answer is actually to
- 1:12Speaker 4: Captain Jal Pedro. And then I moved it to Jal
- 1:15Speaker 4: Pedro and it stayed there for about four or five
- 1:18Speaker 4: hours on Friday afternoon. And then right at the last minute,
- 1:21Speaker 4: about half an hour before the deadline, I was like,
- 1:22Speaker 4: I can't do it. I'm moving back to Harlem. And
- 1:25Speaker 4: I massively regretted it all weekend. And as soon as
- 1:27Speaker 4: I did it, I was like, I've done the wrong
- 1:29Speaker 4: thing here. I know I have. And alas, I did.
- 1:32Speaker 4: So yeah, the thing is when the captains, the major
- 1:35Speaker 4: captains blank like that, then you know that it's going
- 1:37Speaker 4: to be a disappointing game week because obviously the majority
- 1:40Speaker 4: of the points usually come out of the captain. So
- 1:42Speaker 4: really low scoring one this time around as far as
- 1:44Speaker 4: game week ones go. But You know, at least everyone
- 1:47Speaker 4: was in the same boat, I suppose, apart from certain Frenchmen.
- 1:50Speaker 2: That's how I feel. When it happens with... Yeah, take
- 1:52Speaker 2: Jules out of the equation.
- 1:53Speaker 1: When it happens with someone like Haaland, you do kind
- 1:55Speaker 1: of think, OK, it's not like I've gone with, I
- 1:58Speaker 1: don't know, Mbomo, and Haaland's gone off and I've missed
- 2:02Speaker 1: out on loads of points. And the fact, I think
- 2:04Speaker 1: it made it better, didn't it, that we watched Bruno
- 2:06Speaker 1: Blank in the early game, and then, although you're thinking, great,
- 2:09Speaker 1: there's a real advantage if Haaland goes off, at least
- 2:11Speaker 1: you felt better knowing that the other captain hadn't done
- 2:14Speaker 1: as well. But, of course, some people... Get lucky. Some
- 2:17Speaker 1: people tapped him. A player in the last game of
- 2:20Speaker 1: the game week to shoot them.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Up the ranks. And those people are people like you, Jules.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I mean, it's a skill. You know, it's an absolute
- 2:28Speaker 3: skill to be there. I'm joking. I'm joking.
- 2:31Speaker 2: No, no.
- 2:31Speaker 3: But the thing is, and we can say it's a
- 2:33Speaker 3: bit of luck. And of course, again, Haaland has two
- 2:35Speaker 3: massive chances.
- 2:36Speaker 2: So much of this game is around luck, isn't it? No, no, no.
- 2:39Speaker 3: But one thing that's true, though, and to be fair,
- 2:41Speaker 3: it's true in FPL and it's true in normal football life.
- 2:44Speaker 3: is I think the form that a player is in,
- 2:47Speaker 3: which is very obvious, I think matters. And we said
- 2:49Speaker 3: last week that Joel Pedro had been exceptional in pre-season
- 2:52Speaker 3: for Chelsea, that the system with two tens behind him
- 2:56Speaker 3: in Palmer and Rodgers suited him really well, that he
- 3:00Speaker 3: had a free summer because he was not called up
- 3:04Speaker 3: by Brazil for the World Cup. And when you think
- 3:06Speaker 3: of Haaland, who had not played a single second of
- 3:09Speaker 3: pre-season matches until the Community Shield, where he was not good...
- 3:12Speaker 3: there was no momentum there for him, no form, similar
- 3:15Speaker 3: to Bruno, who obviously came back late to United after
- 3:18Speaker 3: the World Cup with Portugal and didn't really do that
- 3:21Speaker 3: well in the little bit of precision that he played.
- 3:23Speaker 3: And then you arrived and that's it. So I think
- 3:27Speaker 3: as much as luck as he was a bit, because
- 3:30Speaker 3: Haaland missed some chances and Bruno was maybe not that
- 3:34Speaker 3: great like United on the day, I thought the form
- 3:37Speaker 3: of João Pedro meant that for a game like that
- 3:39Speaker 3: against Fulham, where you knew Fulham were going to try
- 3:41Speaker 3: to play and there would be a lot of space
- 3:44Speaker 3: to attack in for Chelsea, that Joel Pedro was a
- 3:46Speaker 3: good pick.
- 3:47Speaker 1: The Chelsea attack in general, as Jules mentioned there with
- 3:49Speaker 1: the 2-10s behind, it looks exciting. We spent the whole
- 3:53Speaker 1: pre-season saying Pedro was the best option. I think we
- 3:55Speaker 1: were proven right, but there's all of a sudden potentially
- 3:59Speaker 1: a case to have more than one Chelsea attacker.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Yeah, I think we already knew that they were probably
- 4:06Speaker 4: going to be quite good with that front three, with
- 4:08Speaker 4: Joel Pedro, with Morgan Rodgers now and Cole Palmer. And
- 4:11Speaker 4: particularly as Cole Palmer and Jal Pedro had had the
- 4:13Speaker 4: summer off, hadn't been to the World Cup, it looked
- 4:15Speaker 4: like that they might start the season well. But it
- 4:17Speaker 4: was a fixture that in a London derby, we kind
- 4:21Speaker 4: of weren't sure how that might go. We probably thought
- 4:23Speaker 4: Chelsea would still win it, but it was a bit
- 4:25Speaker 4: more difficult to call. And then the next two matches
- 4:27Speaker 4: that Chelsea have against Brighton, who started the season incredibly well,
- 4:31Speaker 4: and then Arsenal, who are, well, Arsenal. The first three
- 4:35Speaker 4: just didn't look that attractive for the double up. Whereas
- 4:37Speaker 4: when you get beyond that into game week four, and
- 4:39Speaker 4: then you've got the whole Brentford, Bournemouth, Everton, Spurs run
- 4:42Speaker 4: of fixtures, even Manchester United, Sunderland and Leeds that follow that.
- 4:46Speaker 4: That feels like the time to invest in an extra
- 4:48Speaker 4: Chelsea attacker. So as much as my finger was kind
- 4:51Speaker 4: of on the trigger for wanting to get another Chelsea
- 4:53Speaker 4: player this week, I think the sensible part of my brain,
- 4:57Speaker 4: knowing it's Brighton and then Arsenal, goes just hold that
- 5:02Speaker 4: enthusiasm for a little bit. give it another couple of
- 5:04Speaker 4: weeks and then you'll know for sure whether you want
- 5:06Speaker 4: to pay the 9.5 for Cole Palmer or the 7.5
- 5:08Speaker 4: for Morgan Rodgers or get all three of them.
- 5:12Speaker 1: I bet you're going to double up, aren't you, Jules?
- 5:14Speaker 1: Because you had Rodgers in your team for a lot
- 5:16Speaker 1: of pre-season. I feel like it won't take you long
- 5:18Speaker 1: to get him in.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true. Although you two swayed me of moving
- 5:23Speaker 3: him out for... Brian Mbomo, which I did, to be fair,
- 5:28Speaker 3: and also attracted by the fact that United had Hull
- 5:32Speaker 3: and Ipswich in the first two games. So you thought
- 5:34Speaker 3: this is easy, really easy as a pick to make it.
- 5:41Speaker 3: So I did. And now I'm just going to wait
- 5:43Speaker 3: for this Ipswich game to see what Mbomo does with United.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And also I agree with Sam on Brighton and Arsenal.
- 5:49Speaker 3: For Chelsea, it's a bit tough. And then after that,
- 5:52Speaker 3: I expect a lot of the managers after the Arsenal-Chelsea game,
- 5:56Speaker 3: which is game week three, to probably go for that
- 5:59Speaker 3: second Chelsea attacker. And then it's whether you have the
- 6:01Speaker 3: budget for Palmer. Palmer is the best choice here. There's
- 6:04Speaker 3: no doubt. He was far more involved. He will always be.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Every time somebody has the ball, they look for Palmer first.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Rodgers is more on the periphery, probably, after Palmer and
- 6:13Speaker 3: Joel Pedro. So I would go, if we have the budget,
- 6:17Speaker 3: I would go for Palmer every single time, more than Rodgers.
- 6:19Speaker 3: But Rodgers would be... a great kind of replacement. If
- 6:23Speaker 3: you can't get to the 9.5 of Palmer, then 7.5,
- 6:26Speaker 3: you've got Rodgers. He's very good as well, but I
- 6:28Speaker 3: expect Palmer to score more points, to have a better
- 6:31Speaker 3: season than Rodgers in a different way. But it might
- 6:35Speaker 3: not be possible for everyone to get Palmer and Joao
- 6:37Speaker 3: Pedro on the team.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the problem, isn't it?
- 6:39Speaker 1: Also, like if you've got Bruno and you've got Haaland
- 6:41Speaker 1: as well, finding that money for Palmer is very expensive.
- 6:45Speaker 1: But as you mentioned there, I think there's going to be,
- 6:47Speaker 1: particularly after these Man United fixtures, they could, Praz was
- 6:50Speaker 1: on there fancy TV show last week saying he's not
- 6:53Speaker 1: going to own Haaland and Bruno all the time to
- 6:55Speaker 1: enable him to own these other players. And I think
- 6:57Speaker 1: there could be a fixture swing. Well, there is a
- 6:59Speaker 1: fixture swing and a bit of a change around as
- 7:01Speaker 1: early as game week three. And you mentioned the Arsenal-Chelsea
- 7:03Speaker 1: fixture then, actually, Jules. I wanted to know, as an
- 7:06Speaker 1: Arsenal man, what your thoughts were on Arsenal on Friday night.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I know they had the home game against a newly
- 7:11Speaker 1: promoted team, et cetera, et cetera. But, I mean, we
- 7:15Speaker 1: spent a lot of pre-season worrying that certain players weren't
- 7:17Speaker 1: going to start, the likes of Saka, Rice.
- 7:19Speaker 2: They did. Solis also returned. Odegaard returned.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I mean, it was a good night for us FPL owners,
- 7:25Speaker 1: but where are we left thinking our investment should be
- 7:29Speaker 1: with Michael Arteta's side, I suppose is the question.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I was at the game. I thought they were outstanding. Obviously,
- 7:34Speaker 3: Coventry were really poor and I think it'd be a
- 7:37Speaker 3: battle for them to to stay up, which we expected.
- 7:40Speaker 3: But I don't think we expected Arsenal to maybe be
- 7:42Speaker 3: that sharp, although they played well against City in the
- 7:45Speaker 3: Community Shield the weekend before. Odegaard outstanding again. That form
- 7:50Speaker 3: that we mentioned for Joel Pedro, Odegaard was the best
- 7:53Speaker 3: player in the Community Shield. He was the best player
- 7:54Speaker 3: again five days later in this game. And when he's
- 7:57Speaker 3: in that kind of form, I think that makes the
- 7:59Speaker 3: whole Arsenal team kind of click. Then you've got a
- 8:02Speaker 3: defence that is obviously very strong and will have tougher
- 8:05Speaker 3: tests starting on Monday night, where Villa, even a Villa
- 8:08Speaker 3: team that struggled very much against Brighton, but is still Villa.
- 8:11Speaker 3: And then Chelsea, the game that we mentioned in Game
- 8:13Speaker 3: Week 3 at the Emirates. But Calafiori, who we expected
- 8:17Speaker 3: having this kind of free-flooring role a little bit in possession. Again,
- 8:22Speaker 3: with nine points, provided an assist. You had Ben White
- 8:25Speaker 3: on the right-hand side. That was also very good. Rice
- 8:28Speaker 3: in midfield, Odegaard, and then Saka with a goal. And
- 8:31Speaker 3: then Tolis, who is the newcomer, who was heavily owned
- 8:34Speaker 3: after doing well in the community shield, who's not just
- 8:38Speaker 3: great because, again, he was heavily involved in this game,
- 8:41Speaker 3: got a lucky assist, because I don't think that should
- 8:43Speaker 3: have been an assist. But at least he knew the
- 8:45Speaker 3: FPL rules really well, because he knew this assist was coming.
- 8:49Speaker 2: And always try to play forward and to create for
- 8:52Speaker 2: my teammates.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Good early cross there. Counts for assist or not? I'd
- 8:57Speaker 3: like to give it you, but... In fantasy, it counts.
- 9:03Speaker 3: I take the three points.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I know Martin's got a million questions for you, but
- 9:06Speaker 1: we're about to go off air, Christos.
- 9:07Speaker 3: We could talk all night.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Confirmation I'm hearing, it is a fantasy assist.
- 9:12Speaker 3: So congratulations.
- 9:13Speaker 2: That's all that matters, isn't it? As long as he
- 9:15Speaker 2: gets the fantasy assist.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Yeah, that's right.
- 9:18Speaker 2: The rest of us were buzzing. Good to know that.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Players are also aware of it these days. They pretend
- 9:22Speaker 1: they're not, but they very much are. Just a word then,
- 9:26Speaker 1: because we could talk about every single team, but I
- 9:27Speaker 1: think it's important at this point just to check in
- 9:29Speaker 1: on the big teams, the teams we've spoken about a lot.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Jules mentioned Arsenal Villa there.
- 9:35Speaker 1: We know that it's been a summer of change for
- 9:37Speaker 1: Aston Villa with a couple of potential more transfers looking
- 9:41Speaker 1: likely they could go through in the next few days, Sam.
- 9:42Speaker 1: It It's leaving us in an interesting position in terms
- 9:46Speaker 1: of not only an investment with Villa, but also the
- 9:49Speaker 1: teams that are playing Villa at the moment, because we
- 9:51Speaker 1: saw the points that the Brighton players got.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Yeah, it's come almost at the wrong time for us,
- 9:56Speaker 4: I think, in FPL, because obviously we would ideally like to...
- 9:59Speaker 4: when they're a team to target right now aren't they
- 10:02Speaker 4: because they're not they're not in particularly good form they
- 10:04Speaker 4: seem to be having problems and it's Arsenal up next
- 10:07Speaker 4: and so in my head on when I was watching
- 10:09Speaker 4: the Aston Villa Brighton game at the weekend I was
- 10:11Speaker 4: thinking I need to get three Arsenal in, but then
- 10:14Speaker 4: obviously you have to be mindful of the fact that
- 10:15Speaker 4: then coming out the back of that, Arsenal have a
- 10:18Speaker 4: tougher fixture in game week three. So you're kind of
- 10:20Speaker 4: mindful of how you invest there. Plus I would really like,
- 10:24Speaker 4: like I was, I was impressed by Edgar, but I
- 10:26Speaker 4: was really impressed by Saka in this one. And I
- 10:28Speaker 4: was thinking, oh, it'd be a really nice opportunity to
- 10:30Speaker 4: go for somebody a bit different and have a bit
- 10:32Speaker 4: of a differential Saka in my team if I could
- 10:33Speaker 4: go there early. But the problem is, I can't sell
- 10:36Speaker 4: my Manchester United assets yet because they've still got a
- 10:38Speaker 4: newly promoted club to play in game week two. And
- 10:40Speaker 4: we had them for game week one and game week two.
- 10:42Speaker 4: That's why we told Jules to invest in the double
- 10:45Speaker 4: up last week, right? Because you invest for those two
- 10:47Speaker 4: weeks and then you can look to sell. After this
- 10:50Speaker 4: Ipswich game, I can see, much like Pras was saying
- 10:53Speaker 4: on Friday, that there's definitely a part of me that
- 10:57Speaker 4: thinks I'll just sell both of my Manchester United midfielders
- 11:00Speaker 4: and instead have Saka and Palmer in those two positions
- 11:04Speaker 4: because then you can invest in the most premium assets
- 11:07Speaker 4: across those clubs who I think are going to have
- 11:09Speaker 4: really good seasons, still replaces Bruno as a penalty taker
- 11:13Speaker 4: with other penalty takers, particularly Cole Palmer. So I think
- 11:16Speaker 4: that there will be a massive shift, particularly if we
- 11:18Speaker 4: don't see a Manchester United performance in this one, there'll
- 11:21Speaker 4: be a shift there. But I am looking at Arsenal
- 11:23Speaker 4: against Villa and thinking just the two doesn't feel like enough. Like,
- 11:27Speaker 4: don't get me wrong, I'm happy to have Solis. I'm
- 11:28Speaker 4: glad he knows what a fantasy assist is. But I also,
- 11:32Speaker 4: and I'm very happy to have Califuri. He played really
- 11:34Speaker 4: well as well. but I wish I had another one
- 11:36Speaker 4: for this fixture because it does feel like a really
- 11:38Speaker 4: great opportunity to target a team that have started the
- 11:40Speaker 4: season particularly badly.
- 11:42Speaker 1: And just quickly, obviously, it was incredibly disappointing for Man
- 11:44Speaker 1: United and their fans, but we're just going to hold,
- 11:47Speaker 1: aren't we, given the fixture, Jules?
- 11:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so. And again, I think they will
- 11:51Speaker 3: have to bounce back and there's already a bit of
- 11:54Speaker 3: pressure after that defeat where they defended poorly, especially. You
- 11:58Speaker 3: go to Old Trafford, it's the first home game of
- 12:00Speaker 3: the season. You have to put things right. You have
- 12:02Speaker 3: to show much more than what they did against against
- 12:05Speaker 3: Hull City. So I think it's fair if you have
- 12:07Speaker 3: any United asset, whether it's just Bruno, Bruno Mbomo, Kunia,
- 12:12Speaker 3: even a Shaw, a Maguire, all that kind of stuff,
- 12:15Speaker 3: keep them for now. After that, like Sam just said,
- 12:18Speaker 3: I think it's tricky. I think it's the way I
- 12:19Speaker 3: ever turn. Then there's the Manchester derby at some point.
- 12:22Speaker 3: There would be a Champions League first game at the
- 12:24Speaker 3: beginning of September too. So after that, we can reassess
- 12:27Speaker 3: maybe the options on United. I agree with Sam. I
- 12:30Speaker 3: think the Bruno and Mbomo for two other of that
- 12:35Speaker 3: kind of price, Saka, Palmer, Rodgers, Palmer, that kind of stuff,
- 12:39Speaker 3: I think makes a lot of sense, especially if United
- 12:40Speaker 3: are not good again on this weekend.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Okay, then let's check in on our scores. And when
- 12:47Speaker 1: we check in on our scores, I also think it's
- 12:48Speaker 1: probably worth just running through our teams as we kind
- 12:51Speaker 1: of ended up, because we spoke on Thursday morning, we'll
- 12:53Speaker 1: have all made probably a few changes between then and
- 12:56Speaker 1: the deadline so Jules as you you got 72 points
- 13:00Speaker 1: Sam got 56 I got 52 literally the difference between
- 13:03Speaker 1: myself and Sam was the goalkeeper that was the only
- 13:05Speaker 1: difference um we both had benching headaches though I had
- 13:08Speaker 1: an even more severe one because I benched even more
- 13:10Speaker 1: because I have got a slightly different uh looking bench
- 13:13Speaker 1: at the moment but Jules do you want to run
- 13:14Speaker 1: through your team um and what got you 72 points.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I had laments in goal, as I
- 13:21Speaker 3: mentioned last week, which I was fuming watching that game
- 13:24Speaker 3: because of the two poor goals they conceded on set pieces.
- 13:27Speaker 3: So it's just the one point for him. Then Guardiola
- 13:30Speaker 3: did really well with that late goal for City to
- 13:32Speaker 3: win it. Not so much defensively before that, but nine
- 13:35Speaker 3: points for him, nine points for Calafiori and the assist
- 13:39Speaker 3: for Kai Havertz in that Coventry game. Robertson with three.
- 13:42Speaker 3: I don't know why I pick players from small teams
- 13:44Speaker 3: in there because they will get battered. Spurs get battered
- 13:47Speaker 3: everywhere they go, as we know. I'm kidding.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Good job we're at home next week then.
- 13:51Speaker 3: I didn't even know Robertson got that extra point from
- 13:53Speaker 3: the two to the three, but hey, well done to him.
- 13:55Speaker 4: He picked up defensive contributions for the first time ever
- 13:59Speaker 4: in FPL. He didn't get any last year.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I was going to say, God knows how. The midfield
- 14:03Speaker 3: was very good from the other guard side with 11 points.
- 14:07Speaker 3: A lucky goal, but I thought he was outstanding in
- 14:09Speaker 3: that game and the bonus points. And Illiman Ndiaye with
- 14:11Speaker 3: nine points, who again could have had more than that
- 14:14Speaker 3: because I thought he was super good and super dominant
- 14:17Speaker 3: in that win for Everton. Mbomo 2, Bruno 2, let's
- 14:22Speaker 3: not go there because that's your fault, you two. And
- 14:24Speaker 3: then Haaland blanking despite having some chances. Again, maybe a
- 14:28Speaker 3: lack of sharpness a bit. Broby, two points, again, had
- 14:31Speaker 3: a big chance that he squandered, but Sunderland went off
- 14:34Speaker 3: very good. And I was happy that Calvert-Lewin didn't do
- 14:37Speaker 3: better than Broby because I was really torn in between.
- 14:39Speaker 3: And then Joao Pedro with 11 points, becoming 22 as
- 14:41Speaker 3: the captain.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Nice. Sam, what about yours?
- 14:44Speaker 4: I actually didn't make any changes after we spoke on
- 14:48Speaker 4: that Thursday morning. So that was very decisive of me, unusually.
- 14:53Speaker 4: Played with Bruggen for his six-pointer, was happy with that. Calafurri, obviously,
- 14:56Speaker 4: as Joao mentioned, with the nine. Van Hecht didn't hit Defconn.
- 14:59Speaker 4: He sat on nine, which was very frustrating because one
- 15:03Speaker 4: more would have seen those extra two points. Roden, very
- 15:06Speaker 4: happy with him with the six points for him. Bruno
- 15:08Speaker 4: Fernandes and Bomero, as we've mentioned, nothing for them. Solis
- 15:10Speaker 4: and Sabozlai with six and eight each. Really happy with
- 15:13Speaker 4: the Dom Sabozlai pick in the end, particularly taking that
- 15:16Speaker 4: last-minute penalty. And then Iwaiola's comments afterwards, it maybe hopefully
- 15:21Speaker 4: means that he's going to be taking any more penalties
- 15:23Speaker 4: that they have as well. So happy with that one.
- 15:25Speaker 4: João Pedro with the 11. Haaland just the fourth. because
- 15:29Speaker 4: he was my captain, Calvert-Lewin, with one.
- 15:31Speaker 2: The bench hurt.
- 15:31Speaker 4: I benched Sangari. Maybe you might argue there was a
- 15:34Speaker 4: little bit of spares bias going on there. There possibly was.
- 15:37Speaker 4: But equally, he is my eighth attacking player. So I'm
- 15:41Speaker 4: not really sure who else I would have benched. Maybe Calvert-Lewin.
- 15:44Speaker 2: That was the same as me.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I liked the fixture better for Calvert-Lewin than I
- 15:49Speaker 4: did for Sangari. So I was really torn there. But
- 15:51Speaker 4: a 14-pointer sat on the bench is just painful because
- 15:54Speaker 4: had I played him over Calvert-Lewin, obviously I'd have been
- 15:57Speaker 4: 13 points better off. So then I'd be like 69
- 16:01Speaker 4: and then I'm closer to Jules even with a captaincy blank,
- 16:04Speaker 4: which yeah, it's disappointing. Davis with two and then Thomas
- 16:08Speaker 4: also last minute picked up Defcon, which is nice. So
- 16:10Speaker 4: he got three and then obviously Kinski is my backup
- 16:13Speaker 4: goalkeeper with two. So in some ways, I wish I'd
- 16:17Speaker 4: bench boosted because it would have been 21 points off
- 16:19Speaker 4: the bench. But equally, I was never even close to
- 16:22Speaker 4: doing it. So we are where we are. And I'm
- 16:24Speaker 4: quite happy with the team. Like as far as starts go,
- 16:27Speaker 4: this is a much better start than I had last year.
- 16:29Speaker 4: So feeling a little bit more like I've got something
- 16:31Speaker 4: to build on with this lot.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Well, imagine what it's like benching Sangare and Brentford defender
- 16:38Speaker 1: Aya and playing Kinski.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I did. My team's basically the same
- 16:43Speaker 2: as Sam. How many points? On the bench for you, Kelly? 24,
- 16:47Speaker 2: if you include Diop as well.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Aye.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Did you have a booger on the bench as well?
- 16:51Speaker 3: It even hurts me and it's not my bench, Kenz.
- 16:53Speaker 3: It really hurts me and it's not even my bench, Kenz.
- 16:55Speaker 2: No, Sam, I decided.
- 16:56Speaker 1: So at the last minute, I changed around because I
- 16:58Speaker 1: was stupidly so desperate to get from Shaw to Maguire.
- 17:02Speaker 1: I sold Vardyol, who obviously scored. I couldn't believe that
- 17:06Speaker 1: when he scored that late winner. And so I saw
- 17:08Speaker 1: the transfers. So my team is the same as Sam's,
- 17:10Speaker 1: except I've got, I can't remember the differences to yours actually.
- 17:14Speaker 1: I've got Aya and Diop.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Who have you got that I haven't got? I'll run
- 17:18Speaker 2: through my team.
- 17:18Speaker 1: I've got Kinski, Rodon, Maguire, Calafiori, Mbomo, Fernandes, Bozlai, Solis, Cavaloon, Haaland, Pedro.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Then on my bench, Dubravka, Sangare, Aya, Diop. I opted to,
- 17:29Speaker 1: because I wasn't going to bench boost, I opted to
- 17:31Speaker 1: just do the two Spurs keepers and put the 0.5
- 17:32Speaker 1: into Aya instead, which in hindsight... Was great if.
- 17:37Speaker 2: You'd played him. Yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 1: But I just thought Spurs were going to score. I
- 17:44Speaker 1: wasn't confident, don't get me wrong, I wasn't confident of
- 17:46Speaker 1: Kinski getting a clean sheet.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I didn't quite expect it to go like that.
- 17:50Speaker 1: So, yeah, in hindsight, I should have maybe invested the 0.5
- 17:54Speaker 1: in a keeper and then I potentially would have bench boosted,
- 17:56Speaker 1: but I just didn't want to bench boost this early.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I felt like there was too much uncertainty. Let's be honest,
- 18:00Speaker 1: we all knew Sangare was going to be quite good.
- 18:01Speaker 1: We didn't know he was going to be that good
- 18:03Speaker 1: and run the game the way he did.
- 18:04Speaker 3: No. And his game is about DEFCON, to be fair.
- 18:08Speaker 3: For him to have that many points, I don't expect
- 18:11Speaker 3: him to have, I think he would have good, good
- 18:14Speaker 3: games and good points and for the value for the
- 18:17Speaker 3: money is great, but never like that. Even in France
- 18:20Speaker 3: last season, that was not really his game. Again, I
- 18:23Speaker 3: think the weakness of the opposition helped him massively to
- 18:28Speaker 3: do that well.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I'm not even going to argue with that.
- 18:32Speaker 1: In our attack, because we have got the same attack,
- 18:35Speaker 1: you're never going to bench United players against newly promoted sides.
- 18:39Speaker 1: You're not benching the champions. You're not benching Liverpool. Chelsea,
- 18:43Speaker 1: Man City. So it comes down to who do you bench,
- 18:45Speaker 1: Leeds or Brentford? And Leeds, as proven, they've beaten Nottingham
- 18:48Speaker 1: Forest twice in the past week, had a really good.
- 18:50Speaker 2: Fixture as well.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Yeah, and actually it's really hard this week as well
- 18:54Speaker 4: because they play each other, Brentford and Leeds. So now
- 18:56Speaker 4: we have a straight choice to make between do you
- 18:58Speaker 4: go for Calvert-Lewin, who's got a home fixture and started
- 19:00Speaker 4: the season really well, Leeds did, or do you go
- 19:03Speaker 4: for Sangare, who, yes, he's away, but also has had
- 19:06Speaker 4: a good week and had a bit of a rest.
- 19:07Speaker 2: See, I've got.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I've got Calvert-Lewin and Rodon and Sangari and Aya. So
- 19:12Speaker 1: it's like which way they're playing each other and they're
- 19:15Speaker 1: going to wipe out each other's points. I hadn't really
- 19:17Speaker 1: thought of that when I picked the team. I'm the
- 19:20Speaker 1: least happy with Calvert-Lewin, but I'm really happy with all
- 19:23Speaker 1: three of those four picks in my squad.
- 19:24Speaker 2: It's really hard, isn't it?
- 19:25Speaker 1: And I guess it goes back to don't panic after
- 19:27Speaker 1: game week one because I was absolutely gutted when I saw,
- 19:30Speaker 1: because I didn't get to see loads of the Saturday.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I saw a bit of whole Manchester United. I was
- 19:35Speaker 1: vaguely following the 3pm' s. And I watched Brentford Spurs and
- 19:38Speaker 1: I was like, this is the worst start to the
- 19:40Speaker 1: season ever. But I was like, well, actually it's not
- 19:42Speaker 1: because I am, other than Kinski, I'm on the kind
- 19:45Speaker 1: of right players. I've just picked them slightly wrong it
- 19:47Speaker 1: goes back to not panicking.
- 19:48Speaker 4: I think that's exactly right like it's very easy to
- 19:51Speaker 4: look at a team that's got in the mid 50s
- 19:54Speaker 4: and go this has been a total disaster I need
- 19:56Speaker 4: to change everything but actually there's a there's a few
- 19:59Speaker 4: important things to consider here one is you're still above
- 20:02Speaker 4: average which is important which means you're over halfway I
- 20:04Speaker 4: was Yeah, but that's fine, isn't it? Things move so
- 20:09Speaker 4: fast in FPL. From one day to the next, like
- 20:12Speaker 4: on Sunday, it was one of the lowest game week
- 20:14Speaker 4: scores we've ever had in game week one. only for
- 20:18Speaker 4: then the Chelsea boys to turn up on Monday night
- 20:20Speaker 4: and suddenly their game week score is higher because Jalper
- 20:23Speaker 4: Jaro and all of those guys return. So there's that
- 20:26Speaker 4: to consider. There's also the fact that going into the
- 20:29Speaker 4: first matches of the season, we don't have loads of
- 20:31Speaker 4: concrete knowledge yet. Like we're still learning about how players
- 20:34Speaker 4: are playing, how new players are settling in. Even in
- 20:36Speaker 4: the last week, since the last dead down, we've had
- 20:38Speaker 4: a load of new signings to the league that are
- 20:39Speaker 4: going to affect who plays where and how they play.
- 20:42Speaker 4: So I think as long as you're on roughly the
- 20:44Speaker 4: right players, like one of the things I kind of
- 20:46Speaker 4: consoled myself with on, Saturday night after Spurs and Brentford,
- 20:51Speaker 4: because clearly I was not in a very good mood
- 20:52Speaker 4: after that game, was that I have Sangari in my team.
- 20:56Speaker 4: He's going to be a really popular option. And in fact,
- 20:58Speaker 4: he's already taken a price rise. He was one of
- 21:00Speaker 4: the first players to go up in price this season.
- 21:03Speaker 4: So the fact that I was already on him and
- 21:05Speaker 4: had him as a 3% differential, I take some comfort
- 21:08Speaker 4: in that because I'm not having to chase that player.
- 21:12Speaker 4: It's one of those players that's already in. And I'm
- 21:14Speaker 4: not looking at any of mine and thinking, That was
- 21:16Speaker 4: totally the wrong decision. Everyone looks okay to hold for
- 21:20Speaker 4: this week. And that is really important heading into game
- 21:23Speaker 4: week three. Because if you can go into game week
- 21:24Speaker 4: three with two transfers, you're in a much nicer position
- 21:28Speaker 4: than if you have to spend one for game week two.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:30Speaker 1: And also as much as it's hard because you look
- 21:33Speaker 1: at George and you go, oh my God, he got
- 21:34Speaker 1: 20 more points than me. But like you said, it
- 21:37Speaker 1: can be made up quickly. And give it two weeks
- 21:41Speaker 1: of like banking a couple of transfers, then you can,
- 21:43Speaker 1: Because there's nothing, when I actually looked at massively what
- 21:45Speaker 1: I wanted to do, it was maybe I was like,
- 21:48Speaker 1: maybe just, but that's reactionary off one week. And Jules,
- 21:52Speaker 1: you said a stat before we came on that actually
- 21:53Speaker 1: his XG was pretty good, right?
- 21:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, he had two almost one-on-one with
- 21:59Speaker 3: a keeper.
- 21:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:00Speaker 1: So actually it's just like, there's probably, there's loads of
- 22:02Speaker 1: you listening that will be in the same boat. It
- 22:04Speaker 1: was all three of us. Some of you had a
- 22:05Speaker 1: great game week. Some of you a bit frustrated. Some
- 22:07Speaker 1: of you have had an even worse game week. I
- 22:09Speaker 1: think it is important not to panic.
- 22:10Speaker 2: That said, there's a wild card there. If you have
- 22:12Speaker 2: had a disaster, it's there to be used.
- 22:14Speaker 1: And we have seen really successful FPL managers wild card
- 22:17Speaker 1: in game week one or two in the past. So
- 22:19Speaker 1: if you want to do that, by all means do it,
- 22:21Speaker 1: but don't panic.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Last season winner.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Was it last season? I knew it was recent. Yeah,
- 22:25Speaker 2: last season. So you can do it. Yeah, last season's winner,
- 22:28Speaker 2: game week two. It's just being measured about looking at it,
- 22:31Speaker 2: I guess, and working it out.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Anyway, as for you lot, let's talk about the FPL
- 22:35Speaker 1: Pod Mini Leagues. I said we're still waiting for a
- 22:36Speaker 1: few of you to join, but... Jason Cormier is in there.
- 22:39Speaker 2: He's top. He got 116 points. That's over double what
- 22:42Speaker 2: we got, Sam. That's depressing, isn't it? He did play
- 22:45Speaker 2: as Benchbusser.
- 22:46Speaker 3: He did have a chip, though. Yes.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of them did.
- 22:48Speaker 1: And what a Benchbusser this was. Verbruggen, Emerson, De Kooijpoe,
- 22:51Speaker 1: who actually we haven't spoken about. He was out of position.
- 22:53Speaker 1: 17 points for him alone. And then Davis got two.
- 22:57Speaker 1: He doesn't own Haaland or Bruno. So, like Jules, he
- 22:59Speaker 1: captained Joao Pedro. He even got a blank from Thiago Mourinho.
- 23:03Speaker 1: And still comfortably got himself in the 100 club. Matthew
- 23:06Speaker 1: Green also in the 100 club with 114 points. Sam
- 23:08Speaker 1: Caldicourt is third with 112. Only two of the top
- 23:12Speaker 1: 20 managers, though, didn't play their bench boost in game
- 23:14Speaker 1: week one.
- 23:15Speaker 2: So maybe the three of us have missed a trick
- 23:17Speaker 2: and should have done that. A reminder, the code is Q0HV1Q. Okay,
- 23:21Speaker 2: and I just touched upon it then. Transfers.
- 23:23Speaker 1: It's something we often do at the end. But I
- 23:25Speaker 1: don't think any of us are planning on making any.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Is that right, Sam Jules?
- 23:29Speaker 3: No.
- 23:30Speaker 2: We're all keeping patient, aren't we? Because.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Like I said then, Jules, you can make a transfer,
- 23:37Speaker 1: but you can actually do a little bit more surgery
- 23:39Speaker 1: with more information if you wait a couple of weeks.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Yeah, you're right. I think Sam mentioned it a bit
- 23:44Speaker 3: earlier and you just said the word information there. We
- 23:46Speaker 3: don't really have a trend yet because it's too early
- 23:48Speaker 3: in the season. You can't think that Bruno Fernandes is
- 23:52Speaker 3: not going to get better at some point or united
- 23:54Speaker 3: collectively or that Erling Haaland is not going to score
- 23:56Speaker 3: his chances. And the same for that Chelsea front three
- 23:59Speaker 3: that might not have as good as a game against Brighton,
- 24:02Speaker 3: although I think they will. But you see what I mean?
- 24:04Speaker 3: So let's wait. There's no need to panic. We said
- 24:06Speaker 3: that earlier on in the show. There's no need to panic.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Usually you've built your team, not just for this game
- 24:11Speaker 3: week one, but ideally for the first few weeks of
- 24:14Speaker 3: the season. And then after that, you can always look
- 24:16Speaker 3: into it. If you really feel, though, that you've got
- 24:19Speaker 3: one guy wrong because, I don't know, you fancied, let's say,
- 24:22Speaker 3: Igor Thiago for the sake of it and you didn't
- 24:24Speaker 3: really like the game against Spurs, not just the missed penalty,
- 24:26Speaker 3: but also you never felt he was in the game.
- 24:30Speaker 3: then okay, you can use that free transfer if you
- 24:32Speaker 3: want and then replace that player. Same if you want Sakai,
- 24:36Speaker 3: if you want those kind of players and you can
- 24:38Speaker 3: do it, sure. But certainly don't take minus four right now.
- 24:41Speaker 3: I would roll on the transfers and have two for
- 24:44Speaker 3: game week three where there's bigger games and we will
- 24:47Speaker 3: have more of an idea of who is really in
- 24:49Speaker 3: form and who is not in form, who has momentum
- 24:52Speaker 3: or not. But for now, I think it's a bit
- 24:54Speaker 3: early even to use that free transfer that you have.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Yeah, a reminder, if you're unused to the game, rolling
- 24:59Speaker 1: transfers doesn't mean you have an extra one for the
- 25:01Speaker 1: following week and you can bank up to five. So
- 25:04Speaker 1: if you're really happy with your team, great. You can
- 25:05Speaker 1: kind of almost do a mini wildcard in just a
- 25:07Speaker 1: few weeks time, really. But as we said, the wildcard
- 25:10Speaker 1: is also available when you get two of those this season,
- 25:12Speaker 1: one in the first half, one in the second. A
- 25:14Speaker 1: lot of the reason that people should either wait or
- 25:17Speaker 1: might be tempted to wildcard or make big changes, Sam,
- 25:20Speaker 1: is the fact that maybe they feel like they're on
- 25:22Speaker 1: the wrong premiums because we do shape our team I
- 25:24Speaker 1: think it's safe to say we've spoken about it when
- 25:26Speaker 1: structuring our team when we were selecting them in the
- 25:28Speaker 1: pre-season pods the first thing you often do isn't it
- 25:31Speaker 1: is you go here's my Harland here's my Bruno what
- 25:32Speaker 1: else have I got left to spend I guess that
- 25:35Speaker 1: a lot of knee-jerky people might go I went the
- 25:38Speaker 1: wrong premiums I need to rip it up and start.
- 25:39Speaker 4: Again yeah absolutely and I think we have to be
- 25:42Speaker 4: really mindful of the fact that there were a lot
- 25:43Speaker 4: of maybe that I was going to call them weird
- 25:47Speaker 4: results maybe they are still weird results results that we
- 25:49Speaker 4: weren't expecting we were not expecting newly promoted Hull to
- 25:52Speaker 4: come and beat Manchester United I don't think anyone was
- 25:54Speaker 4: really expecting Ipswich to beat Sunderland. I don't think anyone
- 25:58Speaker 4: was really expecting Fulham to score in the way that
- 26:00Speaker 4: they did against Chelsea. Like I think there were a
- 26:02Speaker 4: lot of unexpected turnouts. No one was, I certainly wasn't
- 26:05Speaker 4: expecting Spurs to be as bad as they were. So
- 26:08Speaker 4: all of those results kind of, when that happens in
- 26:11Speaker 4: a Premier League match week, it has an impact on
- 26:13Speaker 4: the game week. And it also has an impact on
- 26:15Speaker 4: what you then think about your FPL team, because obviously
- 26:17Speaker 4: looking at 20 million, in my two Manchester United midfielders
- 26:22Speaker 4: with two points each is incredibly infuriating because I think, well,
- 26:26Speaker 4: I could have gone for anyone else. I could have
- 26:28Speaker 4: gone Erdogan and had the double up of the cheap
- 26:31Speaker 4: Arsenal midfielders. I'd have been better off with that. I
- 26:33Speaker 4: could have gone for Morgan Rogers and had a cheaper
- 26:35Speaker 4: Chelsea midfielder. I'd have been better off with that. You
- 26:38Speaker 4: can't help but look at the premiums and if they
- 26:40Speaker 4: don't return, judge them more heavily than you would say
- 26:43Speaker 4: a cheaper asset because one of your cheaper assets doesn't perform.
- 26:46Speaker 4: You kind of go, well, I wasn't expecting too much
- 26:47Speaker 4: from them because I've only spent 5.5 or 6 million
- 26:51Speaker 4: on them. So yeah, I think when you have that,
- 26:54Speaker 4: that's what's tempting to then throw them out. But equally,
- 26:59Speaker 4: with Manchester United, we bought them for these opening two weeks.
- 27:02Speaker 4: We bought them because they started with the season with
- 27:04Speaker 4: Hull and Ipswich. So to get rid of them ahead
- 27:06Speaker 4: of that Ipswich game doesn't make a lot of sense.
- 27:08Speaker 4: There were, as George mentioned at the beginning of this,
- 27:11Speaker 4: there were opportunities in that game where Manchester United could
- 27:14Speaker 4: and probably should have scored. And so don't necessarily panic
- 27:18Speaker 4: transfer them out because the worst thing that could happen
- 27:21Speaker 4: here is that you transfer them out and then they
- 27:23Speaker 4: return against Ipswich and then you're even more frustrated because
- 27:26Speaker 4: you panic sold them into a game where you would
- 27:29Speaker 4: expect them to win it's their first home fixture of
- 27:31Speaker 4: the season as well in game week two whereas once
- 27:33Speaker 4: we get out of game week two I think a
- 27:35Speaker 4: lot of us sat down and said I don't think
- 27:37Speaker 4: I'll hold both the Manchester United midfielders from game week
- 27:40Speaker 4: two onwards I think I'll look to move them on
- 27:42Speaker 4: so then you were making a choice between Bruno and
- 27:45Speaker 4: Mbamah as to which one you would keep now may
- 27:47Speaker 4: be the answer if they both blank again in game
- 27:49Speaker 4: week two going into three might be that we lose
- 27:51Speaker 4: them both but that gives you the information to base
- 27:55Speaker 4: that judgment on once we've watched what happens against Ipswich this.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Week yeah it was interesting as well I think Gabriel
- 28:00Speaker 1: was the lowest scoring the Arsenal defence I didn't actually
- 28:03Speaker 1: clock that at the time but that made me feel
- 28:04Speaker 1: a little bit better that we didn't actually go there
- 28:07Speaker 1: but as you said it was a lower scoring game
- 28:08Speaker 1: week one um than we're used to I think it's
- 28:11Speaker 1: going to be interesting because like the mid-price players Jules
- 28:14Speaker 1: are the ones where they could be a little bit
- 28:16Speaker 1: of movement and they're easier to move around, aren't they? Because, well,
- 28:18Speaker 1: it's obvious they don't take up as much money. I mean,
- 28:21Speaker 1: I don't know if Saka and Palmer mid-price? They probably
- 28:24Speaker 1: are just because Bruno is so expensive. But I think
- 28:28Speaker 1: that's where I'll be changing my team around in a
- 28:30Speaker 1: week or two.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely. And you know what? You can even rotate
- 28:34Speaker 3: if you want without owning both of them. Players like
- 28:38Speaker 3: Palmer and Saka because they are similar price and yes,
- 28:41Speaker 3: there might be price rises and things like that. So
- 28:43Speaker 3: you always have to be careful and as You two
- 28:45Speaker 3: always say, because I never do it, but keep a
- 28:47Speaker 3: bit of money in the bank for that reason, for example.
- 28:51Speaker 3: But you can easily do that. The thing that worries
- 28:54Speaker 3: me a little bit is Bruno and United and their
- 28:57Speaker 3: kind of form. But then again, you go from Bruno
- 29:00Speaker 3: down to Palmer, Saka, that's something you can do. Haaland,
- 29:05Speaker 3: I'm not sure if this team is going to click
- 29:07Speaker 3: with Maresca, under Maresca, when there's a lot of new signings,
- 29:11Speaker 3: there's a lot of players leaving the club. And again,
- 29:14Speaker 3: we need to keep an eye on that because Joel
- 29:16Speaker 3: Pedro right now is so close just behind Haaland as
- 29:19Speaker 3: the most owned player in the game, which we would
- 29:22Speaker 3: have never thought at the start of the season, for example.
- 29:24Speaker 3: And I don't think, apart from the great years of
- 29:27Speaker 3: Mo Salah, Haaland has always been the king, right? If
- 29:30Speaker 3: he was not Salah, it was him, the most heavily
- 29:33Speaker 3: owned all the time. And it could be Pedro very
- 29:35Speaker 3: soon now. So even for Haaland, let's keep an eye
- 29:38Speaker 3: on him, his form. More importantly, the form of the
- 29:43Speaker 3: team at City. But yeah, I think those between, let's say, 7.5,
- 29:48Speaker 3: so Rodgers, those kind of type of players, even Soboslai
- 29:51Speaker 3: to some extent, let's say 7 to 9.5 and the
- 29:53Speaker 3: Palmer prices. then I think for them, you can have
- 29:56Speaker 3: a lot of fun with them through the season. If
- 29:59Speaker 3: you feel that Bruno is not the answer and you
- 30:01Speaker 3: keep Haaland, for example, then I think you can have
- 30:03Speaker 3: a lot of fun with those players between seven and nine.
- 30:06Speaker 4: I think one thing you have to be mindful of, sorry, Kels,
- 30:09Speaker 4: is that you, with Bruno last season, he started the
- 30:12Speaker 4: season at nine million. So over the course of the campaign,
- 30:15Speaker 4: he averaged 26.1 points per million you had.
- 30:18Speaker 2: To spend on him.
- 30:19Speaker 4: If he'd have been 12, like he is this season,
- 30:22Speaker 4: his points per million average would have been 19.5. So
- 30:25Speaker 4: whereas last season he was the 42nd best value for money,
- 30:29Speaker 4: based on this season's pricing, he would have been 111th
- 30:32Speaker 4: in the game. So I think we have to be
- 30:34Speaker 4: really mindful of that, is that just because last year
- 30:36Speaker 4: Bruno was incredible for us, he was a lot cheaper.
- 30:40Speaker 4: And so the value that you're getting out of him
- 30:42Speaker 4: was significantly more than any value you might get this.
- 30:45Speaker 4: Because if he was to finish at the same point
- 30:47Speaker 4: as this season, he'd have to get like 331.
- 30:48Speaker 3: Points, which... It's not going to happen.
- 30:54Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just not going to happen. He's not going
- 30:56Speaker 4: to score that. It's 313 I got them the wrong
- 30:58Speaker 4: way around. He has to get 313 points this season
- 31:01Speaker 4: in order to match the value that he was last season.
- 31:04Speaker 4: That won't happen. So every year we have to look
- 31:06Speaker 4: for the value players. And this season it might be
- 31:08Speaker 4: the Palmers and the Sackers that offer us that value
- 31:10Speaker 4: rather than Bruno. And we have to kind of detach
- 31:13Speaker 4: what we learned last season a bit from what we're
- 31:15Speaker 4: going to learn from this season.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I was so desperate for Mbembe to do something last
- 31:20Speaker 1: week because then when we do make when we do
- 31:22Speaker 1: come out of this Hull and Ipswich fixture, it would
- 31:23Speaker 1: feel easy to kind of keep coverage in that Man
- 31:26Speaker 1: United attack and lose that 12.5 because it's just so
- 31:29Speaker 1: much money, isn't it? Let's talk about some of the
- 31:31Speaker 1: other teams that impressed them. We've spoken about Arsenal. We
- 31:34Speaker 1: probably haven't spoken about, and I know we've said we
- 31:38Speaker 1: haven't got enough information yet. It's only one game, but
- 31:41Speaker 1: I spent a lot of that game going, so is.
- 31:43Speaker 2: It the Arsenal double up and one attacker? Is it
- 31:45Speaker 2: the Arsenal double attack and one defender?
- 31:48Speaker 1: And it, It is a hard game to judge because,
- 31:51Speaker 1: as you said, Jules, Coventry will be disappointed with the
- 31:53Speaker 1: way they started the season. What are we thinking? Are
- 31:56Speaker 1: the early signs? Because you really got Odegaard in my
- 31:59Speaker 1: head after last week's pod. And watching that, I was like, 6.5.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Odegaard's going to, if he keeps performing like that, his
- 32:05Speaker 1: price is going to go up for one and actually
- 32:07Speaker 1: he's going to be great value. So maybe it's the
- 32:09Speaker 1: double Arsenal attack and one defender, which goes away from
- 32:11Speaker 1: everything we've learned about Arsenal in the last few years.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think they might play differently a bit
- 32:17Speaker 3: to last season in that kind of defensive mindset mode,
- 32:21Speaker 3: if you want, and having a bit more of a
- 32:24Speaker 3: free-flowing game, if you want. So, again, let's see what
- 32:28Speaker 3: happens on Monday night against Villa at Villa Park. We
- 32:32Speaker 3: can invest on them and treble up and get a
- 32:34Speaker 3: third one. So, you could have Odegaard Solis, which is
- 32:37Speaker 3: still cheaper than having Saka there, and then your defender,
- 32:40Speaker 3: whether that's Calafiori, Mosquera, who are, as we said, same price.
- 32:45Speaker 3: You could go for Saka now if you want, because
- 32:47Speaker 3: I think his form is just going to go better
- 32:49Speaker 3: and better and stronger because I don't even think he's
- 32:52Speaker 3: fully fit and didn't actually play the whole 90 minutes
- 32:54Speaker 3: in this game for that reason. So that's a possibility
- 32:58Speaker 3: as well. But I would wait a little bit for
- 33:00Speaker 3: the treble up for Arsenal, just for that Villa and
- 33:03Speaker 3: the Chelsea game. And then we will know a bit
- 33:06Speaker 3: more about them after those two games, I think.
- 33:08Speaker 2: OK, so we're going to hold fire on that.
- 33:10Speaker 1: We've spoken about Chelsea and potentially holding fire there, but
- 33:13Speaker 1: maybe we'll double up.
- 33:15Speaker 2: On the attack.
- 33:15Speaker 1: I don't think we're too keen on any of the
- 33:16Speaker 1: defence at the moment. Leeds, there was a lot of
- 33:19Speaker 1: chat about Leeds in pre-season and I was worried I
- 33:21Speaker 1: was kind of getting brought into a trap by bringing
- 33:23Speaker 1: Rodon in, Sam. But I mean, they've had a brilliant
- 33:26Speaker 1: start to the season, haven't they? And I'm a very
- 33:29Speaker 1: happy Joe Rodon owner.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 33:32Speaker 4: And I think that's the beauty almost of the Leeds
- 33:34Speaker 4: defence is that there's so many different ways that you
- 33:37Speaker 4: can invest in it and at different prices. So obviously
- 33:40Speaker 4: Leeds Game week one went well for them against Forest,
- 33:43Speaker 4: and as you mentioned, they beat them twice in the
- 33:44Speaker 4: last week now. But then the games that follow on
- 33:46Speaker 4: from that is Brentford, obviously, up next, and then it's Brighton,
- 33:49Speaker 4: Newcastle Palace before Arsenal in six. Now, I would argue
- 33:52Speaker 4: that actually you could play your Leeds defenders in most
- 33:55Speaker 4: of those pictures.
- 33:55Speaker 2: Maybe you wouldn't want to.
- 33:56Speaker 4: Play them against Brentford, given how well they scored on
- 33:59Speaker 4: Saturday evening. But otherwise, you can go there. We've got
- 34:02Speaker 4: Roden as an option, as a cheap option if you want.
- 34:04Speaker 4: You've got Bojo last year. He was fantastic for us
- 34:06Speaker 4: and was good again in.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Game week one.
- 34:09Speaker 4: Justin was great in this one as well. He was
- 34:12Speaker 4: also really good. Plus, you've also got the goalkeeper. If
- 34:14Speaker 4: you have a goalkeeper shaped issue and you've gone off
- 34:17Speaker 4: whoever it is that you've got already, then Trafford could
- 34:20Speaker 4: be a really nice option as well. All the different
- 34:22Speaker 4: price ranges as well. So easy to swap from anybody
- 34:25Speaker 4: across to a Leeds defender. And it makes a lot
- 34:26Speaker 4: of sense given how well they've started the season. I
- 34:29Speaker 4: think we might see the very best of Leeds this year.
- 34:31Speaker 4: So I'm really keen to be doubled up on them.
- 34:35Speaker 4: At one point during that game while I was watching them,
- 34:38Speaker 4: I was thinking, do I need to increase my investment
- 34:41Speaker 4: in Leeds? Should I have gone for an Anton Stack
- 34:43Speaker 4: or somebody like that in midfield? Now, maybe the treble
- 34:46Speaker 4: up is a bit too keen, but I'm certainly happy
- 34:48Speaker 4: to be doubled up, even if Calvert-Lewin disappointed.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Jules, have you got any Leeds players?
- 34:53Speaker 3: No, I don't. I like Marimovic, to be fair. And
- 34:57Speaker 3: everything you both said makes a lot of sense. It
- 34:59Speaker 3: was just more Calvert-Lewin between him and Broby. And again,
- 35:02Speaker 3: I thought, Sunderland fixture against Ipswich was good and that's
- 35:07Speaker 3: why I wanted Broby and again I think he could
- 35:09Speaker 3: have done probably a bit better and then it's Fulham
- 35:11Speaker 3: at home for Sunderland this weekend which I think Fulham
- 35:15Speaker 3: will give you chances, will give you goals because they
- 35:17Speaker 3: will play in a way that you will get chances
- 35:20Speaker 3: against them so That's the only reason why. But I
- 35:23Speaker 3: like Leeds and the fixtures, Brentford at home, Brighton away. Okay,
- 35:26Speaker 3: maybe a little bit tricky, then it's Newcastle. They will
- 35:28Speaker 3: have Arsenal and United back to back at some point.
- 35:31Speaker 3: So just keep looking at the fixtures as well. But yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 3: I think one lead defender makes a lot of sense. Okay.
- 35:38Speaker 1: And Brighton fans will be screaming and saying, we had
- 35:41Speaker 1: a massive win. Why are you not talking about us?
- 35:42Speaker 1: So we're going to talk about them before we move
- 35:44Speaker 1: on to differential of the week. The fixtures aren't great now.
- 35:48Speaker 1: And that kind of put me off. little bit i
- 35:50Speaker 1: had gross in a lot of my drafts but he
- 35:52Speaker 1: didn't make it in the ink so i went for
- 35:53Speaker 1: sangari and i'm pretty happy about that um i mean
- 35:56Speaker 1: if you are a gross owner you'll be very frustrated
- 35:58Speaker 1: i was very relieved not watching that game saw the
- 36:00Speaker 1: scoreline and no returns for him um if you are
- 36:04Speaker 1: a gross owner sam do you.
- 36:06Speaker 4: Panic no i don't think you panic i mean look
- 36:10Speaker 4: he's he's your cheap budget midfielder isn't he would i
- 36:12Speaker 4: have preferred a a Sangari or even a Gomez who's 0.5 cheaper. Yeah, absolutely.
- 36:17Speaker 4: But that's, it's just one game week. It's just one result, right?
- 36:20Speaker 4: So I don't think you can kind of, we shouldn't
- 36:22Speaker 4: just go, well, Pascal Gross is terrible and we need
- 36:23Speaker 4: to take him out in FPL. That's not the case.
- 36:27Speaker 4: I think you do have to consider those around because
- 36:29Speaker 4: like you said, I don't, I didn't invest in Brighton
- 36:32Speaker 4: apart from the goalkeeper because I wasn't entirely sure I
- 36:35Speaker 4: liked the opening round of fixtures. Like Villa, I was
- 36:38Speaker 4: expecting them to not be great given what we've seen
- 36:40Speaker 4: so far this summer, but I wasn't absolutely certain that,
- 36:44Speaker 4: that they wouldn't do something in this one and so
- 36:46Speaker 4: just for Bruggen felt enough but now I'm looking at
- 36:49Speaker 4: that thinking well they've absolutely well it was a great
- 36:53Speaker 4: result wasn't it and whether that is says more about
- 36:57Speaker 4: Brighton or Villa remains to be seen and I think
- 37:00Speaker 4: we'll find out more about that in the coming weeks
- 37:02Speaker 4: but obviously the Brighton fixtures now they are very mixed
- 37:04Speaker 4: as you say it's Chelsea away up next before Leeds
- 37:07Speaker 4: who have just been saying have been really good there's
- 37:09Speaker 4: a nice fixture in there against Coventry but then after
- 37:12Speaker 4: that is Arsenal so They aren't the very best of fixtures.
- 37:16Speaker 4: I think you give him another week for sure. If
- 37:18Speaker 4: you then need money, then going down to a Gomez.
- 37:22Speaker 4: Armstrong was good at Everton. He's 0.5 cheap.
- 37:24Speaker 2: He could go there.
- 37:26Speaker 4: If you want to clear it so that you're not
- 37:28Speaker 4: like you and I, Kels, and particularly if you've already
- 37:30Speaker 4: played your bench base, you could drop down to Slater
- 37:32Speaker 4: at Hull who's 4.5. And that gives you an easy
- 37:34Speaker 4: bench option in the attacking players every week rather than
- 37:37Speaker 4: you and I having to negotiate between Calvert-Lewin and Sangari
- 37:40Speaker 4: or somebody else every week where you're inevitably going to
- 37:42Speaker 4: get it wrong. All of the Brentford boys, they all impressed.
- 37:45Speaker 4: So Sangari's gone up 0.1. So you've got to pay
- 37:47Speaker 4: an extra 0.1 for him now. But Jenson and Lewis
- 37:50Speaker 4: Potter both looking good. Same prize. Jan out 0.5 cheaper.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Lots of other options, but I wouldn't do anything just yet.
- 37:56Speaker 4: Let's give him another week or so and see where
- 37:58Speaker 4: we are.
- 37:59Speaker 3: Okay.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Differential of the week then. The first one and the
- 38:03Speaker 1: trend continues. I mean, you both got a return, but Sam,
- 38:06Speaker 1: you got double, your player got double the points of Jules's.
- 38:08Speaker 1: You went for Gakpo. You got 12 points with a goal.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Two Defcon, three bonus. Jules got Haver six points because,
- 38:14Speaker 1: of course, he scored against Coventry. Sam, that does mean
- 38:17Speaker 1: you get to go first.
- 38:19Speaker 4: I've really struggled actually picking one this week because the
- 38:22Speaker 4: fixtures are really mixed for picking differentials. All the teams
- 38:26Speaker 4: that I really fancied have got, all their players have
- 38:29Speaker 4: gone over 10% already because they're popular picks because they've
- 38:32Speaker 4: got early, nice runner fixtures. So in the end, I've
- 38:34Speaker 4: settled on Gonzalo Garcia from Fulham. I wasn't very impressed
- 38:38Speaker 4: by Sunderland in game week one. Wasn't hugely impressed by
- 38:42Speaker 4: Fulham either against Chelsea, but they did score goals against
- 38:45Speaker 4: that Chelsea defence. He's currently going to cost you six million.
- 38:48Speaker 4: He's owned by 3.1% of the game and he scored
- 38:50Speaker 4: on his Premier League debut against Chelsea on Monday night.
- 38:53Speaker 4: He also had three shots in that game, which only
- 38:55Speaker 4: Haaland with five, Isak, Wissert and Jal Pedro had more
- 38:59Speaker 4: than with four each. And Sunderland did struggle. So I
- 39:02Speaker 4: wonder whether we could see a decent return out of Fulham.
- 39:05Speaker 4: Even if they don't win the game, I do think
- 39:07Speaker 4: that they'll score and he seems to be involved in
- 39:09Speaker 4: all the good stuff that they're doing. So I'm going
- 39:11Speaker 4: to go with Garcia.
- 39:12Speaker 3: Jules? I went with Maxime de Kuyper at Brighton. Again,
- 39:19Speaker 3: to come back on the theme of the show for me,
- 39:21Speaker 3: that kind of form and the momentum. He was outstanding, obviously,
- 39:24Speaker 3: against Villa with the goal and the assist. 17 points
- 39:27Speaker 3: last week, which was the highest in the whole game.
- 39:30Speaker 3: His expected goal is 1.47. He was everywhere, played higher
- 39:33Speaker 3: up than usually. I mean, I think he can play anywhere, really,
- 39:36Speaker 3: but he was more of a left-back or left-wing back.
- 39:39Speaker 3: This time, as a left-winger, he went up in price already.
- 39:43Speaker 3: He's 4.6 when he was 4.5. But he's still only
- 39:46Speaker 3: owned by 6.8% of the managers. So I think It's
- 39:50Speaker 3: Chelsea away, which obviously is tough. But I think what
- 39:53Speaker 3: we saw from Chelsea against Fulham in this Xabi Alonso
- 39:57Speaker 3: system is that they will attack, but they will also
- 39:59Speaker 3: give you chances and be quite open. So defensively, especially
- 40:03Speaker 3: with Robert Sanchez in goal, if he continues, because I
- 40:06Speaker 3: don't expect it. I think I expect him to be
- 40:07Speaker 3: dropped and Mike Pandas to start this game in goal
- 40:10Speaker 3: for Chelsea. But I think there will be chances for
- 40:12Speaker 3: Brighton and the keeper. We could have gone for Hinchelwood
- 40:16Speaker 3: as well if you wanted, because I think Hötzler has
- 40:20Speaker 3: made a really good player in there, but the keeper
- 40:23Speaker 3: is my pick for this one.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Okay, so we're not making any transfers. I think we've
- 40:28Speaker 2: all agreed on that. Who's the best captain?
- 40:31Speaker 1: I'm on Bruno, but part of me thinks, don't be burned,
- 40:34Speaker 1: let's go for Pedro. So I could go for Pedro. George,
- 40:36Speaker 1: are you going for Pedro again?
- 40:39Speaker 3: It's him or Bruno at home against Ipswich. I'm thinking like,
- 40:42Speaker 3: come on, I can't. This is too good not to
- 40:45Speaker 3: go there, you know?
- 40:47Speaker 2: Okay, so Jules will end up on Bruno.
- 40:49Speaker 3: Sam?
- 40:51Speaker 4: So I think Arsenal have got the best fixture of
- 40:53Speaker 4: the week, which means I've only got Solis or Calafuri.
- 40:59Speaker 4: There's something about the captain in a 6.5 million midfielder
- 41:03Speaker 4: that feels really wrong. If I had Saka or if
- 41:06Speaker 4: Solis was priced at 9 million, I think I'd have
- 41:08Speaker 4: thrown the armband on him. But because he's cheap, I
- 41:11Speaker 4: kind of go, well, I've spent all this money on Bruno,
- 41:14Speaker 4: so surely I should captain him. I also quite like Harlem,
- 41:18Speaker 4: but it's Friday night. I hate captaining in the early game.
- 41:21Speaker 4: It's going to ruin my whole weekend and I'm on holiday.
- 41:23Speaker 4: It's going to ruin my whole holiday if that goes wrong,
- 41:25Speaker 4: isn't it? So better off to wait. And also Arsenal
- 41:29Speaker 4: play on Monday night just before I fly home. Maybe
- 41:31Speaker 4: that's the better option. I don't know, basically, is what
- 41:33Speaker 4: I'm saying. I'm Bruno or Solis. It's one or the other.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Okay, so not even considering Pedro. Anyone plan to play
- 41:38Speaker 2: a chip?
- 41:41Speaker 3: No.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Bench boost two will probably be quite popular, won't it, Sam?
- 41:43Speaker 1: That was a lot of people set up their teams
- 41:45Speaker 1: for that.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Yeah, if you had a lot of Coventry in your team,
- 41:48Speaker 4: a lot of people were going high on Coventry for.
- 41:51Speaker 2: A bench boost.
- 41:52Speaker 4: Having said that, after Hull's performance in game week one,
- 41:55Speaker 4: and if you've got double Coventry defence, I'm not sure
- 41:58Speaker 4: I'm that hot on that anymore, to be honest. But
- 42:01Speaker 4: I think if you have set up your team for
- 42:02Speaker 4: the bench boost, then you probably play it anyway, because
- 42:05Speaker 4: then you can carry on with your strategy rather than
- 42:07Speaker 4: kind of just throw it out. But I do think
- 42:10Speaker 4: that Hull will score against Coventry. So it might be
- 42:13Speaker 4: a bit of a disappointing week if you've doubled up
- 42:15Speaker 4: on their the fence.
- 42:17Speaker 1: Okay that's where we're going to leave it then a
- 42:19Speaker 1: reminder the fantasy shows back on friday harry and holly
- 42:21Speaker 1: are in the studio with me your deadline is 6
- 42:24Speaker 1: 30 p.m 90 minutes head of crystal palace versus manchester
- 42:28Speaker 1: city so good luck get your transfers done and don't
- 42:31Speaker 1: panic see you next week
