Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Can we go in the campaign of course. Vintor Mecabenny
- 0:02Speaker 1: with Usponcent very good morning to you. Good morning liber
- 0:05Speaker 1: manifesto die, what are they promising?
- 0:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's right, the Labor manifesto quite different from the
- 0:12Speaker 2: one they ran on a few years ago under Jeremy Corbyn.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Keir Starmer is very much saying that his party is
- 0:18Speaker 2: the party for change, but he is for stability, not
- 0:22Speaker 2: chaos as we've had with the Conservatives. But there were,
- 0:25Speaker 2: in his own words, no surprises, no rabbits out of
- 0:28Speaker 2: the hat. He said he was not running to lead
- 0:31Speaker 2: a circus but a serious party, and that if you
- 0:33Speaker 2: wanted pantomime, go to Clapton where Nigel farages. So some
- 0:37Speaker 2: disappointment that there weren't any sort of real new retail
- 0:39Speaker 2: offers for voters, but a lot of feedback saying basically
- 0:44Speaker 2: this was going to work the sort of most dangerous
- 0:46Speaker 2: point for him in the whole election. Something going wrong
- 0:49Speaker 2: with the manifesto, because in twenty seventeen Theresa May thought
- 0:52Speaker 2: she was cruising to a nice majority in the election
- 0:55Speaker 2: that she called a snap one, and then it all
- 0:57Speaker 2: came apart on manifesto day, something which was dubbed the
- 1:01Speaker 2: dementia tax, which is selling your house basically to pay
- 1:04Speaker 2: for care in your older age. So far, there's been
- 1:06Speaker 2: nothing in the Labor manifesto that is undoing the work
- 1:10Speaker 2: that Kiirstarma has done for five years to rebuild his party.
- 1:13Speaker 1: What's your vibe so far on this campaign? Has anything
- 1:16Speaker 1: materially changed at all? And I referred to the polls
- 1:18Speaker 1: the message gap and the toy is going to.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Lose, only that the Tories are doing worse by the day. Essentially,
- 1:25Speaker 2: there was a great line last night when Kistarma and
- 1:28Speaker 2: Ritchie Sieck were in the North of England. They were
- 1:30Speaker 2: doing another TV debate, not heads ahead, but a sort
- 1:33Speaker 2: of in depth interview and then questions from the public
- 1:35Speaker 2: and one political editor here for a newspaper was asked,
- 1:39Speaker 2: you know what she thought about richistin Axlin d day
- 1:41Speaker 2: and he turned it around and she said, well, today
- 1:43Speaker 2: he hasn't punched a pensioner or kicked a dock, so
- 1:47Speaker 2: that's got to be better than the last few days.
- 1:49Speaker 2: That is the level of campaign he is at. The
- 1:51Speaker 2: Conservatives are looking at a real wipeout in this selection,
- 1:54Speaker 2: perhaps less than one hundred seats that had sort of
- 1:58Speaker 2: been something that people said a few months ago that
- 2:00Speaker 2: was dismissed, but now by the day looking more and
- 2:03Speaker 2: more likely because his performance last night in the debates
- 2:06Speaker 2: wasn't good. Two thirds of those who watched it said
- 2:09Speaker 2: that Kirstarma won easily.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Okay, then we come to JUE seven and Italy as
- 2:13Speaker 1: Zelenski's there. Of course, this package that Biden has been spreaking,
- 2:16Speaker 1: this fifty billion UIs is the bit money is on
- 2:19Speaker 1: its way what by the end of the year.
- 2:20Speaker 2: I guess, yeah, that's right. And I think this is
- 2:23Speaker 2: all about future proofing that the Ukraine war against war
- 2:27Speaker 2: effort against Russia in case of a Trump victory, because
- 2:31Speaker 2: what we're seeing both with the G seven members today
- 2:34Speaker 2: that package but also being in lockstep that Russia cannot
- 2:37Speaker 2: win this, that Ukraine will win, and that Western support
- 2:41Speaker 2: is with Ukraine. It is not wavering. We're also seeing
- 2:43Speaker 2: this in the meetings that are going on in the
- 2:46Speaker 2: NATO alliance. So this week we had the sort of
- 2:49Speaker 2: the nine Eastern members of NATO meeting with Jens Daltenberg.
- 2:53Speaker 2: They were talking about reaffirming their commitment to Ukraine and
- 2:57Speaker 2: the sport that was needed, their fears over a sort
- 2:59Speaker 2: of belief in Russia once again. It's all building to
- 3:02Speaker 2: this big meeting in a few weeks in Washington, DC
- 3:05Speaker 2: of NATO to celebrate the anniversary of that organization's founding,
- 3:09Speaker 2: I think the seventieth anniversary of the organization's founding, and
- 3:13Speaker 2: it's basically just have to make sure that whatever happens
- 3:16Speaker 2: with elections this year, Ukraine has the funding it needs
- 3:19Speaker 2: to carry on its war efforts.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Okay, Mape, you have a good week and we'll catch up,
- 3:22Speaker 1: So appreciate it very much. Vincent Mecabinity out of the UK.
