Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. A Feria of the fourteenth Sunday after Pentecost, Sept. Fourth, in the year of our Lord, 2026. The epistle and gospel of today teach us that we cannot, at the same time, serve two masters, namely the flesh and the spirit. The spirit or grace given to us by the Holy Ghost inclines us to supernatural and holy things.
• 0:41
The flesh, or man with his bad and carnal instincts, makes us commit all manner of sins. Let us attend to our temporal interests without exaggerated preoccupation for such anxiety offends our Father in heaven. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy ghost. Amen. The introit.
• 1:17
God, ever our protector, do not disregard us now. Look upon him thou hast anointed. Willingly would I give a thousand of my days for one spent in thy courts. Lord of hosts, how I love thy dwelling place. For the courts of the Lord's house, my soul faints with longing.
• 1:47
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. God ever our protector do not disregard us now. Look upon him thou hast anointed. Willingly would I give a thousand of my days for one spent in thy courts.
• 2:21
The Collect, let us pray. Favor thy church unceasingly, O Lord, we beseech thee, and keep her safe. And because apart from thee frail man is won't to fall may she by thy help be ever withdrawn from harm and guided in good through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Galatians.
• 3:10
Brethren, learn to live and move in the spirit, then there is no danger of your giving way to the impulses of corrupt nature. The impulses of nature and the impulses of the spirit are at war with one another. Either is clean contrary to the other and that is why you cannot do all that your will approves. It is by letting the Spirit lead you that you free yourselves from the yoke of the law. It is easy to see what effects proceed from corrupt nature.
• 3:51
They are such things as adultery, impurity, incontinence, luxury, idolatry, witchcraft, feuds, quarrels, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, dissensions, factions, spite, murder, drunkenness, and debauchery. I warn you as I have warned you before that those who live in such a way will not inherit God's kingdom whereas the spirit yields a harvest of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, forbearance, gentleness, faith, courtesy, temperateness, purity. No law can touch lives such as these. Those who belong to Christ have crucified nature with all its passions, all its impulses. The gradual.
• 5:17
Better to trust the Lord than to rely on the help of man. Better to trust the Lord than to rely on the word of princes. Alleluia. Alleluia. Come, friends, rejoice we in the Lord's honor.
• 5:39
Cry we out for gladness to God, our deliverer. Alleluia. A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Matthew. At that time Jesus said to his disciples, A man cannot be the slave of two masters at once. Either he will hate the one and love the other or he will devote himself to the one and despise the other.
• 6:14
You must serve God or money. You cannot serve both. I say to you then do not fret over your life. How to support it with food and drink. Over your body.
• 6:29
How to keep it clothed. Is not life itself a greater gift than food, the body than clothing? Behold the birds of the air. They never sow nor reap nor gather grain into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them, have you not an excellence beyond theirs? Can any one of you, for all his anxiety, add a cubit's growth to his height?
• 7:03
And why should you be anxious over clothing? Behold the lilies of the field, they toil not, neither do they spin. And yet I tell you that even Solomon in all his majesty was not arrayed as one of these. But if God so clothed the grass of the field which today is and tomorrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore be not anxious saying, What shall we eat?
• 7:44
Or what shall we drink? Or wherewithal shall we be clothed? For even the heathen seek these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you have need of them. But seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be yours without the asking. The offertory.
• 8:12
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him and delivers them. Taste and see how good the Lord is. The secret. Grant us, we beseech thee, O Lord, that through this saving victim our sins may be cleansed in thy might appeased through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
• 8:56
The common preface. Just it is indeed and fitting, right in for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, Oh, holy Lord, father almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty. The dominions worship it. The power stand in awe. The heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify.
• 9:30
We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts. The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
• 10:01
Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Seek first the kingdom of God and all things shall be given you besides says the Lord. The post communion. Let us pray.
• 10:26
May thy sacraments, O God, ever cleanse and defend us and lead us to the attainment of eternal salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. Let us bless the Lord.
