- 1:02Speaker 1: thing since the generosity of Bengals fan Phil am Rin.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Every season, each NFL team picks a Fan of the
- 1:11Speaker 1: Year based on their commitment to the franchise and nomination
- 1:14Speaker 1: letters from friends and family. The Bengals winner this year
- 1:18Speaker 1: is Phil am Rin, who served as the Ruler of
- 1:21Speaker 1: the Jungle on Sunday. He's been a season ticket member
- 1:24Speaker 1: for roughly thirty years and has attended more than one
- 1:27Speaker 1: hundred road games. The prize for the Fan of the
- 1:30Speaker 1: Year is two tickets to the Super Bowl, plus airfare
- 1:34Speaker 1: and lodging. Well, here's the interesting twist with Phil. He
- 1:38Speaker 1: and his wife Shelley have gone to the Super Bowl
- 1:40Speaker 1: for the last twenty one years. Sometimes they get game tickets,
- 1:44Speaker 1: other times they just enjoy the super Bowl related activities
- 1:48Speaker 1: in the host city. Well, this year they had already
- 1:51Speaker 1: made their Super Bowl plans, so they are raffling off
- 1:55Speaker 1: they're Fan of the Year super Bowl trip for charity.
- 1:59Speaker 1: All pro seeds go to a variety of causes, including
- 2:02Speaker 1: the Ken Anderson Alliance, the Sam Hubbard Foundation, and the
- 2:06Speaker 1: Anthony Munio's Foundation. The drawing is Monday at two in
- 2:11Speaker 1: the afternoon, so depending on when you listen to this podcast,
- 2:14Speaker 1: you might still have time to purchase a ticket. For details,
- 2:18Speaker 1: go to Phil am Rin's Facebook page. His last name
- 2:22Speaker 1: is spelled am R e I N. Now let's get
- 2:28Speaker 1: to the highlights. Of Sunday's win over Baltimore. It'll be
- 2:31Speaker 1: a thirty four yard attempt for Evan McPherson, cal Adamitas
- 2:36Speaker 1: High school and college teammate of Damar Hamlin, will snap
- 2:39Speaker 1: it back. Chrispin puts the ball down. Evan McPherson's kick
- 2:43Speaker 1: on its way and good, and the Bengals have scored
- 2:47Speaker 1: first here at pay Course Stadium. It's a play action
- 2:50Speaker 1: fake Brown looking throws before gage and accepted by Jesse Bates.
- 2:55Speaker 1: He has it at the fifty looking to run it back.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Now he has grabbed and he'll be tackled at the
- 3:01Speaker 1: forty seven yard line of Baltimore. B J Hill put
- 3:05Speaker 1: the hit on the quarterback Anthony Brown, who floated it
- 3:09Speaker 1: right to Jesse Bates. He did, he hit him and
- 3:11Speaker 1: jack knifed him. It comes a blitz. Burrow somehow gets away,
- 3:15Speaker 1: throws over in the middle, caught at the thirty by
- 3:17Speaker 1: Tyler Boyd and he gets tackled at the twenty six
- 3:21Speaker 1: yard line by Marcus Williams. Joe Burrow got out of
- 3:26Speaker 1: a strait jacket there. Kyle Hamilton. Kyle Hamilton came on
- 3:29Speaker 1: the blitz and he missed him first in goal. Inside
- 3:33Speaker 1: the one. Zach Taylor was running down the sideline to
- 3:36Speaker 1: call a time out. The Pengals run ahead and ran
- 3:40Speaker 1: a play and Joe Mixon runs it in from inside
- 3:43Speaker 1: the one. Zack Taylor didn't run fast enough to get
- 3:47Speaker 1: the time out, and it works out just fine for
- 3:50Speaker 1: Cincinnati's Brookie quarterback Anthony Brown one for three with an
- 3:54Speaker 1: interception so far today. This pass intercepted off a ricochet.
- 3:59Speaker 1: It's picked off by Mike Hilton, and that was not
- 4:02Speaker 1: Anthony Brown's fault. It was a good throw. The intended
- 4:06Speaker 1: receiver allowed it to glance right off his arms into
- 4:11Speaker 1: the hands of Mike Hilton and the Bengals will take over.
- 4:14Speaker 1: At the thirty two of Baltimore, Joe catches the shotgun snap,
- 4:18Speaker 1: he throws it deep down the left side, the leaping
- 4:21Speaker 1: catch in the end zone. Jamar Chase paulls it in
- 4:26Speaker 1: and the Bengals have scored again, Chase beating Warlie. And
- 4:32Speaker 1: with that throw, Joe Burrow has set the new single
- 4:37Speaker 1: season record for touchdown passes in a season, breaking the
- 4:42Speaker 1: mark that he set last year. It's his thirty fifth
- 4:46Speaker 1: of the year, and what a performance of strength at
- 4:51Speaker 1: the eight pecks of the catch, but Jamar Chase second
- 4:54Speaker 1: and goal from the five, Brown hands it off. It's
- 4:56Speaker 1: a run to the left and Drake will take it
- 4:59Speaker 1: into the endz o for a Baltimore touchdown. Empty backfield.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Brown's going to throw from the zone and brought down
- 5:08Speaker 1: the ball. The ball comes down recovered for a touchdown.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Trey Hendrickson stripped it away from Anthony Brown and a
- 5:18Speaker 1: three covered in the end zone for a Cincinnati touchdown.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Third down and eight, the Ravens at their own thirteen,
- 5:24Speaker 1: brown back to throw. Here comes a blitz nice and
- 5:27Speaker 1: he will be sacked Trey Hendrickson With Mike Kilton coming,
- 5:33Speaker 1: they bring down Anthony Brown at the nine yard line.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Ten seconds to go. The Bengals backing up into a
- 5:40Speaker 1: prevent defense, brown back to pass. He throws a leaping
- 5:45Speaker 1: catch made likely will be tackled and that will end
- 5:50Speaker 1: the game. The Cincinnati Bengals are not only AFC North champions,
- 5:59Speaker 1: but the NFL can keep the change. Yeah, there will
- 6:02Speaker 1: be no coin flip required, as the Bengals will open
- 6:06Speaker 1: the playoffs in the jungles and rightfully and deservedly sown.
- 6:12Speaker 1: The final score was twenty seven to sixteen and Normally,
- 6:15Speaker 1: an eleven point win over a division rival is very satisfying. However,
- 6:20Speaker 1: there were causes for concern. First and foremost, Alex Kappa
- 6:25Speaker 1: injured his left ankle late in the third quarter and
- 6:28Speaker 1: left the field on a cart. More on that later
- 6:31Speaker 1: with Dave Lapham. Secondly, after opening the game with two
- 6:35Speaker 1: touchdowns in a field goal on their first three possessions,
- 6:38Speaker 1: the Bengals had ten more drives and only added one
- 6:42Speaker 1: more field goal. On offense, there were seven punts, a
- 6:45Speaker 1: loss fumble, and they got stopped on fourth and one. Still,
- 6:50Speaker 1: the Bengals broke out celebratory cigars in the locker room
- 6:53Speaker 1: after the game, and I caught up with one of
- 6:56Speaker 1: the game ball recipients, who was headed to the playoffs
- 6:59Speaker 1: for the fourth time in his six NFL seasons. The
- 7:04Speaker 1: Heiress stick with cigars smoke inside the Bengals locker room,
- 7:07Speaker 1: and we're with Mike Kilton. Congratulations, champions of the North
- 7:11Speaker 1: for the second year in a row. You will open
- 7:13Speaker 1: the playoffs at home against Baltimore. How's that sound? Oh man,
- 7:16Speaker 1: it's big, you know, number one, just getting to the playoffs,
- 7:18Speaker 1: you know, giving ourselves a chance and us winning the division.
- 7:21Speaker 1: You know, obviously getting the home playoff game is big.
- 7:24Speaker 1: You know, having a division upon it, coming to with
- 7:26Speaker 1: a lot on the line is gonna be big, so
- 7:28Speaker 1: we we gotta get rid of We know it's gonna
- 7:30Speaker 1: be another tough game, but we know it's at stake
- 7:32Speaker 1: and we'll be prepared. The offense scored on the first
- 7:35Speaker 1: three possessions. It was seventeen nothing. Brandon Allen started warming
- 7:39Speaker 1: up on the sideline. I think a lot of us thought,
- 7:41Speaker 1: all right, the route is on. It didn't play out
- 7:44Speaker 1: that way. How are you guys feeling about how the
- 7:46Speaker 1: rest of the game went? Oh all right? You know,
- 7:49Speaker 1: even if they've been they had people down. You know,
- 7:50Speaker 1: it's a division game. They know us and we know them,
- 7:53Speaker 1: so it's not gonna be easy. We knew they weren't
- 7:55Speaker 1: us gonna lay down, but we found a way to
- 7:58Speaker 1: just do what we do best get to win. And
- 8:01Speaker 1: now we're here celebrating getting ready for a playoff game.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Takeaways we're a big part of it. I think. For
- 8:06Speaker 1: if if I'm not mistaken and you had an interception,
- 8:09Speaker 1: tell me about that play. It was third down. He
- 8:13Speaker 1: ran ag a drag route, so he went right down
- 8:15Speaker 1: the line. Quarterback kind of threw it behind him and
- 8:18Speaker 1: it tipped up and I having to be in a
- 8:19Speaker 1: right spot. So I love how it worked out. Now,
- 8:22Speaker 1: now we just gotta keep caring the turnovers to the
- 8:24Speaker 1: next couple of weeks. It was obviously a weird week.
- 8:28Speaker 1: We're all thrilled that tomorrow Hamblin is doing well. But
- 8:32Speaker 1: what was it like to go back out there and
- 8:33Speaker 1: play today. It was definitely a little tough at first,
- 8:36Speaker 1: but once we just really gathered in this locker room
- 8:39Speaker 1: before we came out, were just like, do what we do,
- 8:41Speaker 1: play our game. You know, don't don't play slow because
- 8:44Speaker 1: of what happened. Just be yourself and enjoy the moment
- 8:47Speaker 1: and play every dawn like it's your last. Twelve wins
- 8:50Speaker 1: ties a franchise record, an eight game winning streak, ties
- 8:54Speaker 1: a franchise record. Do you feel like you're going into
- 8:57Speaker 1: the postseason and a good place? Oh yeah, absolutely, Well
- 9:00Speaker 1: we're rolling right now. You know, we're a hot seeing
- 9:03Speaker 1: but you know, nothing that means nothing. We can't finish
- 9:05Speaker 1: the job, and that's getting to the super Bowl, and
- 9:07Speaker 1: this weekend is our first step. So guys got a
- 9:10Speaker 1: reset and just get ready before a top of phone.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Are you a cigar guy? I am, I really am,
- 9:15Speaker 1: so I'm enjoyed this one today. Congratulations, thank you. That's
- 9:19Speaker 1: Mike Kelton. As Mike noted in that interview, Baltimore had
- 9:23Speaker 1: people down. Lamar Jackson missed his fifth straight game with
- 9:26Speaker 1: a knee injury, and second string quarterback Tyler Huntley sat
- 9:30Speaker 1: out with a shoulder injury. Rookie Anthony Brown made his
- 9:33Speaker 1: first career start and finished with a passer rating of
- 9:36Speaker 1: forty six point two. The Ravens also rested several key players,
- 9:41Speaker 1: including running back JK. Dobbins, tight end Mark Andrews, cornerback
- 9:46Speaker 1: Marcus Peters, and offensive lineman Kevin Zeitler with a possibility
- 9:51Speaker 1: of earning the number two playoffs. See The Bengals played
- 9:54Speaker 1: their regulars only to see Alex Kappa go down. There's
- 9:59Speaker 1: no word yet the severity of his injury, but it
- 10:01Speaker 1: obviously did not look good. Max Sharping, who has claimed
- 10:05Speaker 1: off waivers just before the start of the season, took
- 10:08Speaker 1: over at right guard. He started thirty three games in
- 10:11Speaker 1: the past for Houston. Here are Ted Carriss and Joe
- 10:15Speaker 1: Burrow on the injury to Alex Kappa. Well, I've gotten
- 10:18Speaker 1: a lot of credit this year, and I just want
- 10:20Speaker 1: to make it clear that Alex Kappa is the singular
- 10:24Speaker 1: force that drives this old line. He's like having another
- 10:27Speaker 1: center on the field. He's my number one confidant and
- 10:30Speaker 1: he's extremely talented, and that my heart broke when that happened.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I don't know the details. I have all the comments
- 10:37Speaker 1: in the world in Max if that's what has to
- 10:39Speaker 1: do going forward, but I just want to make it
- 10:41Speaker 1: clear how much Alex means to this team, means this
- 10:44Speaker 1: offensive line and to this offense. He's been a huge
- 10:47Speaker 1: contributor and a big factor of our success this season.
- 10:49Speaker 1: He's really been playing unbelievable all year. Kappa's one guy
- 10:54Speaker 1: you love to be around, great locker room guy. Two
- 10:58Speaker 1: unbelievable player, smart, physical, tough, everything you could ask for
- 11:02Speaker 1: in and into your guy. You know, I don't I
- 11:06Speaker 1: don't know the severity of the injury, but you know,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I have a lot of confidence in the guys behind him.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Max has played a lot of football and you know
- 11:13Speaker 1: he knows the stuff, so he's gonna have to step up.
- 11:16Speaker 1: But we got all the faith in the world. In
- 11:17Speaker 1: a the Bengals lost l Collins with a knee injury
- 11:21Speaker 1: two weeks ago against the Patriots, So after having the
- 11:24Speaker 1: same five starters on the offensive line for the first
- 11:27Speaker 1: fifteen games, it looks like they'll head into the postseason
- 11:31Speaker 1: with Sharping and Hakim Identagy starting on the right side.
- 11:36Speaker 1: The Bengals Booth podcast is brought to you by Bengals
- 11:38Speaker 1: Picks and Ultimate Bengals. They're free to play, with tickets
- 11:42Speaker 1: and signed merchandise up for grabs. Find both inside the
- 11:46Speaker 1: Bengals app. Joe Burrow told reporters after the game that
- 11:50Speaker 1: he didn't play well and miss throws that he usually makes.
- 11:54Speaker 1: He was twenty five for forty two. That's sixty percent
- 11:57Speaker 1: for two hundred and fifteen yards, one touch down, no picks,
- 12:01Speaker 1: and a passer rating of eighty one. The Ravens stuffed
- 12:05Speaker 1: the Bengals running game, holding Joe Mixon to twenty seven
- 12:08Speaker 1: yards on eleven carries and holding the Bengals as a
- 12:11Speaker 1: team to fifty five yards on the ground. Fortunately for Cincinnati,
- 12:16Speaker 1: the defense was outstanding, coming up with two interceptions and
- 12:20Speaker 1: two fumble recoveries. The deal allowed one touchdown but also
- 12:24Speaker 1: scored one And I talked to the guy who came
- 12:27Speaker 1: away with Cincinnati's first defensive touchdown of the year. I
- 12:32Speaker 1: feel like I am now smoking a cigar inside the
- 12:35Speaker 1: locker room. I'm standing next to Joseph Osai after he
- 12:38Speaker 1: just got a nice light from a teammate. You scored
- 12:42Speaker 1: a touchdown the Bengals one or twelfth game of the year.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Describe how you're feeling right now. Feeling great. You know
- 12:48Speaker 1: last year I didn't get to experience these guys, just
- 12:51Speaker 1: feeling with you guys firsthand. But I'm just happy. I do.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Am very thankful. I'll go over to God. I won't
- 12:57Speaker 1: be here without him. So Trey Hendrickson stripped the ball
- 13:00Speaker 1: away from Anthony Brown. We saw how long your reach
- 13:03Speaker 1: is as you reeled that ball in good serve. I
- 13:06Speaker 1: just I felt the ball. I saw him strip it,
- 13:08Speaker 1: and I felt the ball hit hit my feet and
- 13:10Speaker 1: I was just trying to scramble to find it because
- 13:12Speaker 1: without trying to alert the other guy to the ball
- 13:14Speaker 1: was on the ground too. So it was it was
- 13:17Speaker 1: a bit safety, but I'm just gonna I was able
- 13:19Speaker 1: to get it. I was able to. Really. Then, when
- 13:21Speaker 1: did you score your last touchdown high school? My junior
- 13:26Speaker 1: in high school. Um, it was a fumble recovery and
- 13:29Speaker 1: I and I ran it in for a touchdown. We're
- 13:32Speaker 1: visiting the Joseph side. So with this win, you'll be
- 13:35Speaker 1: back here next week against Baltimore in a rematch. How
- 13:39Speaker 1: are you guys feeling about that? Um? Those got that.
- 13:43Speaker 1: That's a tough team. All credit to them, all credit
- 13:45Speaker 1: to their coaches. Um, they were down early and they
- 13:48Speaker 1: stuck in there and they fought. So I'm looking forward
- 13:51Speaker 1: to it. Man. It feels a lot better when you
- 13:53Speaker 1: win when you work hard like that for it. So
- 13:55Speaker 1: if it's gonna be a dog fight, we're prepared for it.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Were Um, we've been there before and we're to win.
- 14:01Speaker 1: It was seventeen nothing as you alluded to, did the
- 14:04Speaker 1: way the game ended with them at least sticking in it.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Take anything away from the victory today, No, sir, win
- 14:11Speaker 1: is a win in this league. They're a great team too.
- 14:14Speaker 1: What what's the record? Ten and ten and seven? Then
- 14:16Speaker 1: and seven? They're a great team too. It's hard to
- 14:18Speaker 1: win in this league, especially in AFC North, and UM,
- 14:22Speaker 1: every win you gotta be thankful for it, and you
- 14:23Speaker 1: gotta be appreciated for way, no matter how it comes. Ugly, beautiful,
- 14:26Speaker 1: you gotta be happy of to win. And we're back
- 14:29Speaker 1: to the drawing board and we'll see him again. Twelve
- 14:32Speaker 1: wins ties a franchise record. An eight game winning streak
- 14:35Speaker 1: ties a franchise record. How do you feel about the
- 14:37Speaker 1: way you guys are going into postseason play? Let's make
- 14:40Speaker 1: it thirteen love the sound of that. Break it. We're
- 14:43Speaker 1: tied right now, Let's break it. So with the events
- 14:47Speaker 1: of the last week, everybody felt a lot better as
- 14:50Speaker 1: the week went along, as we got good news about
- 14:52Speaker 1: tomorrow Hamlin's recovery. But what was it like for you
- 14:55Speaker 1: to take the field today? Um, you know, when it happened,
- 15:00Speaker 1: it was darned on us how violent this game truly is.
- 15:04Speaker 1: You have that you know in the back of your mind,
- 15:05Speaker 1: and this is a violent sport. But seeing that truly manifested,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and it just made me more thankful. I don't know
- 15:12Speaker 1: about anybody else but me personally, made me more thankful,
- 15:15Speaker 1: more appreciative that at any point in time something like
- 15:18Speaker 1: that could happen to me. But it hasn't. So I
- 15:20Speaker 1: thank God for that, and I respect the game a
- 15:23Speaker 1: lot more and every sense I get I gotta go
- 15:27Speaker 1: out there and give it all I have because you
- 15:28Speaker 1: never know when which one is your last. You know,
- 15:30Speaker 1: you're saying what I'm saying. You gotta you gotta play
- 15:32Speaker 1: hard for Damar and his family because he got the
- 15:33Speaker 1: game taken away from him. Now. We don't know yet
- 15:35Speaker 1: if you'll get to play again, but just to get
- 15:38Speaker 1: the game taken away from you like that, you just
- 15:39Speaker 1: gotta be respectful of the game and appreciative of every
- 15:42Speaker 1: chance you get, every opportunity you get. I've interrupted your
- 15:45Speaker 1: celebration long enough. Congratulations, appreciate the time. That's Joseph Osid.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Bengals Booth podcast is presented by Alta Fiber future proof
- 15:55Speaker 1: fiber Internet capable of delivering multi gigabit speeds because I
- 16:00Speaker 1: had to take your home, business and community to a
- 16:02Speaker 1: new level, elevate your connection with all to Fiber. This
- 16:07Speaker 1: is Zach Taylor's fourth year as the Bengals head coach,
- 16:09Speaker 1: and he has upped his win total every season, from
- 16:13Speaker 1: two in year one to four in year two to
- 16:16Speaker 1: ten in year three to twelve. This season, Zach spent
- 16:21Speaker 1: four minutes with Dave Lapham after the game black Room.
- 16:25Speaker 1: There's a lot of cigar smoke in there. It is
- 16:26Speaker 1: there's a lot of work that goes into this, you know,
- 16:28Speaker 1: and I know we've got bigger first to fries we
- 16:30Speaker 1: get into the playoffs, but to finish off with eight
- 16:34Speaker 1: straight wins in the back half of the season to
- 16:36Speaker 1: win the first time in franchise history back to back
- 16:39Speaker 1: divisional games, most wins in franchise history twelve tied for that.
- 16:44Speaker 1: These guys should take a lot of pride in what
- 16:45Speaker 1: they coomplish her today. And this is a typical a
- 16:47Speaker 1: seen North football game. It's ugly. I haven't seen a
- 16:50Speaker 1: pretty one yet. You just gotta find a way to
- 16:52Speaker 1: be on top. And that's where guys did three and
- 16:54Speaker 1: three in the division and you win the last three
- 16:56Speaker 1: to do it nine and one against everybody else. That
- 16:59Speaker 1: just proved how if this division is Yeah, it's it's
- 17:01Speaker 1: a it's a tough division. We're a tough team and
- 17:04Speaker 1: this team just keeps finding ways to win. At this point,
- 17:07Speaker 1: we don't care how pretty it's going to be. We
- 17:09Speaker 1: just got to be the ones to one on top.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Turnovers are always a big factor in this Baltimore Raven
- 17:15Speaker 1: football team only had seventeen giveaways coming into this football game,
- 17:18Speaker 1: Like second few us in the league. You got them
- 17:21Speaker 1: for four today, two interceptions, two finals plus two fourth
- 17:24Speaker 1: down stops which in my mind possessing done in the
- 17:27Speaker 1: kick it's a takeaway. I mean, six of them. That's
- 17:29Speaker 1: pretty impressive. Yeah, that was awesome. You know, they gave
- 17:31Speaker 1: the offense a great field position scored seven. You know,
- 17:35Speaker 1: that was our first defensive such of the season, which
- 17:36Speaker 1: is good to have. We needed that in this game.
- 17:38Speaker 1: And so again they did a great job winning the
- 17:40Speaker 1: field position battle for us and creating a lot of takeaways.
- 17:43Speaker 1: That was good. So what is it that you told
- 17:46Speaker 1: your football team after this game? I mean, you know,
- 17:49Speaker 1: obviously they're celebrating like they should, but you got work.
- 17:53Speaker 1: You have unfinished business. I guess work still to be done.
- 17:56Speaker 1: What did you tell them? Congratulated them again? How hard
- 18:00Speaker 1: this is to do. And this is the cherry on
- 18:02Speaker 1: top of the regular season. This is this is the
- 18:04Speaker 1: best we could have done after the halfway point was
- 18:06Speaker 1: win all eight of them and and find a way
- 18:08Speaker 1: to come out on top of a toughest division all football.
- 18:11Speaker 1: And so now you you after today, we put this
- 18:13Speaker 1: one behind us. We don't know if it'll be a
- 18:15Speaker 1: six day week or seven day week. Coming at us,
- 18:17Speaker 1: but our guys will be ready to go whatever the
- 18:19Speaker 1: worst case scenario is for the Mangles. That's what the
- 18:21Speaker 1: leg will do. It seems like because I mean, how
- 18:23Speaker 1: big of a motivating factor was that coin tops bullcraft
- 18:28Speaker 1: that went on. I think our guys did a great
- 18:29Speaker 1: job handling the right way. They know that winning this
- 18:31Speaker 1: game solved a lot of our problems. So that's what
- 18:34Speaker 1: the that's what they focused on doing, and that's what
- 18:36Speaker 1: they got done. Coach. I mean, as we talked about earlier,
- 18:41Speaker 1: I thought that the fans showed up today. I thought
- 18:44Speaker 1: that it was a good moment where get back to
- 18:47Speaker 1: normalcy as best you can. The fans celebrate the players
- 18:51Speaker 1: to the players celebrate the fans. I mean, it was
- 18:53Speaker 1: like a almost like a love fest out there, you know.
- 18:56Speaker 1: I mean after what took place on Money Night, did
- 18:58Speaker 1: you feel that? That's why Cincinnati's That's why we all
- 19:01Speaker 1: want to be here, because we love our fans. We
- 19:03Speaker 1: love this organization. The support is felt every single week.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I know that the fans love this team and what
- 19:09Speaker 1: we're all about. It's really cool to see you've wanted
- 19:12Speaker 1: eight in a road to end the season. This football
- 19:16Speaker 1: team can get it done when they needed to get
- 19:19Speaker 1: it done, where they need to get it done, can't
- 19:21Speaker 1: they Yeah, it doesn't matter at this point where we play.
- 19:23Speaker 1: We've we've heard it play at home. Can't wait to
- 19:25Speaker 1: play this. This home playoff game atmosphere that we had
- 19:28Speaker 1: last year against the Raiders was second to none. I
- 19:30Speaker 1: expect none, nothing less for this go around. Even more.
- 19:33Speaker 1: We got the Baltimore Ravens coming in here. What more
- 19:35Speaker 1: could you ask for to have a chance to end
- 19:37Speaker 1: their season and continue ours? And so I know that
- 19:41Speaker 1: the fans are gonna be turned out for this weekend.
- 19:42Speaker 1: And finally, Coach, and appreciate your carving this time after
- 19:45Speaker 1: the game last year, going through what you went through
- 19:48Speaker 1: three game run in the playoffs going to the Super Bowl.
- 19:51Speaker 1: How much of a carryover is there from that when
- 19:54Speaker 1: you start preparing for this particular playoff run or is
- 19:58Speaker 1: it like forget all about that? This is a totally
- 20:00Speaker 1: different equations. I think there's an understanding of what's in
- 20:02Speaker 1: front of us, how hard it's going to be. The
- 20:04Speaker 1: opponents that are left are all great football teams, and
- 20:07Speaker 1: each week brings its own challenges. They're all gonna be tough.
- 20:10Speaker 1: These guys are mentally ready for it, they're physically ready
- 20:13Speaker 1: for it. They're battle tested, they know what's in front
- 20:15Speaker 1: of them, and I'm excited to see them operate. Congratulations coach,
- 20:18Speaker 1: twelve and four AFC North champion, number three seed playoffs
- 20:23Speaker 1: here we come. Awesome, Thank you. So here's how the
- 20:27Speaker 1: playoff picture looks in the AFC. The Chiefs are the
- 20:30Speaker 1: number one seed and get a first round by Buffalo
- 20:34Speaker 1: is the two seed and opens at home against Miami.
- 20:37Speaker 1: The Bengals are the three seed and host Baltimore. The
- 20:41Speaker 1: Jaguars are the fourth seed and host the Chargers. The
- 20:44Speaker 1: Steelers just missed the playoffs after beating Cleveland twenty eight
- 20:48Speaker 1: to fourteen. Still, after a two and six start, Pittsburgh
- 20:52Speaker 1: wound up nine and eight, extending Mike Toblin's streak to
- 20:56Speaker 1: sixteen straight five hundred or better seasons as this Steelers
- 21:00Speaker 1: head coach. Now time for the radio guys recap lap.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what I was going
- 21:07Speaker 1: to get when we walked into the locker room after
- 21:09Speaker 1: the game. I didn't know if it would be celebratory.
- 21:12Speaker 1: I didn't know if they'd feel a little disappointed. Because
- 21:14Speaker 1: of the way the game ended, Clearly the mood was celebratory.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna stink like cigars for the next several days.
- 21:21Speaker 1: The Bengals, you know, looked at the season as a
- 21:24Speaker 1: whole and celebrated that the success. It's been. Twelve and
- 21:28Speaker 1: four ties a franchise record for most wins in a season.
- 21:32Speaker 1: They finished with an eight game winning streak. They head
- 21:34Speaker 1: into the postseason with a home game and momentum. You're
- 21:37Speaker 1: exactly right, and you know, Zach Taylor, I think said
- 21:40Speaker 1: it best. You know, an NFL season is hard. When
- 21:43Speaker 1: you go twelve and four and you win your division,
- 21:46Speaker 1: they should be proud, they should be celebratory. But a
- 21:50Speaker 1: grizzel veteran like Ted Carroll said, you know what, I'm
- 21:54Speaker 1: not real excited about how we played. I'm glad we
- 21:57Speaker 1: won the football game, but you know, basically, and I'm
- 22:01Speaker 1: translating here, this is not what he said. But he
- 22:04Speaker 1: wasn't about to go do cartwheels over it, you know,
- 22:06Speaker 1: I mean he was he realized that it's going to
- 22:10Speaker 1: be a different Baltimore team they faced next week, and
- 22:13Speaker 1: he knows that they have to play better than they
- 22:15Speaker 1: did in this football game. Particularly in the second half.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I mean, the second half was man root canal surgery.
- 22:21Speaker 1: And you know they've had three games in a row
- 22:24Speaker 1: now where they played the entire game and had one
- 22:28Speaker 1: half of good performance and another half of not be
- 22:32Speaker 1: at one phase of the other offense or defense. And
- 22:35Speaker 1: so I guess the good news is you get a win,
- 22:41Speaker 1: you go twelve and four ties of franchise record, win
- 22:43Speaker 1: a division, all that good stuff, have home faild advantage
- 22:46Speaker 1: in the playoffs. But you know, you still have a
- 22:48Speaker 1: lot of work to do. So it's not like let's
- 22:51Speaker 1: just roll our hats out there and we know we
- 22:53Speaker 1: can beat them. They know they have to play much
- 22:55Speaker 1: better than they played today to beat the Baltimore Raven
- 22:58Speaker 1: team that's showing up next week. Alex Kappa departed on
- 23:02Speaker 1: a cart with a left ankle injury in the locker
- 23:05Speaker 1: room after the game. He was there with his teammates celebrating,
- 23:08Speaker 1: but he was on one of those little scooters keeping
- 23:11Speaker 1: the left ankle off the ground. That certainly doesn't bode
- 23:14Speaker 1: well for the round first ground of the playoffs. No,
- 23:17Speaker 1: it doesn't. In the way he was, you know, his
- 23:20Speaker 1: fellow offensive line war you know, shaking his hand and
- 23:26Speaker 1: saying some of the things they were saying to him.
- 23:28Speaker 1: It was almost almost I don't want to speculate, but
- 23:33Speaker 1: they knew the severity of it. Let's put it that way.
- 23:35Speaker 1: They have an idea that he's definitely not playing next week.
- 23:40Speaker 1: I think they know that for sure. And other than that,
- 23:45Speaker 1: they'll be waiting for final news. I mean, I'm sure
- 23:47Speaker 1: there's other MRIs x rays, all kinds of pictures that
- 23:50Speaker 1: they'll be taking. For all we know, they may not
- 23:54Speaker 1: need to take anymore. They may already know. And I
- 23:58Speaker 1: will give Alex Kappa credit. He was trying to keep
- 24:02Speaker 1: the stiff upper lip as best he could. You know,
- 24:05Speaker 1: he was smiling. He was very uh, you know, effusive
- 24:09Speaker 1: in the praise of his teammates, and I mean it
- 24:12Speaker 1: wasn't like, oh poor me, poor me. I heard him
- 24:15Speaker 1: say a couple of times, that's football. That's football, guys.
- 24:18Speaker 1: So in my mind, I've been involved in some of
- 24:22Speaker 1: that kind of situation. In my mind, that means, you know,
- 24:27Speaker 1: I have no control over this, and it doesn't look
- 24:29Speaker 1: like it's very good. I mean, that would be awful
- 24:33Speaker 1: if he's out for the postseason, because he's got a
- 24:35Speaker 1: Super Bowl ring with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he
- 24:37Speaker 1: got hurt in the first playoff game and wasn't able
- 24:40Speaker 1: to play in the Super Bowl. One of the reasons
- 24:42Speaker 1: why he's with this team is that he saw that
- 24:44Speaker 1: it was a contender and he wants to get back
- 24:46Speaker 1: and play this time. Yeah, and you look at it
- 24:49Speaker 1: from an offensive line standpoint, first fourteen games of the season,
- 24:53Speaker 1: plus you know you have your whole line intact. You
- 24:57Speaker 1: lose your right tackle Collins, then you have a game
- 24:59Speaker 1: that doesn't count, and then you lose your right guard.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I mean, so after going the entire season with the
- 25:05Speaker 1: offensive line taken every snap together up until the very
- 25:08Speaker 1: end of it, here the final two games where they
- 25:11Speaker 1: played games, they lose their starting right side that they
- 25:14Speaker 1: got in free agency who were playing well for him,
- 25:17Speaker 1: callus in Kappa the Sea Brothers. I mean, that's a blow.
- 25:22Speaker 1: If indeed that's the fact. Last year, the Bengals destroyed
- 25:27Speaker 1: the Ravens offensively. Now, in the second of those two games,
- 25:31Speaker 1: Baltimore is ravaged by injuries. The Bengals were playing the
- 25:34Speaker 1: B squad, but the first time around, the Ravens were
- 25:36Speaker 1: largely healthy. In the two meetings this year, Baltimore's defense
- 25:40Speaker 1: gave Cincinnati a lot of trouble. Joe Burrow through for
- 25:43Speaker 1: two of his four lowest passing yardage games this year
- 25:48Speaker 1: in those two games against Baltimore. I think it's I
- 25:50Speaker 1: think it's a philosophy of defense. McDonald is a guy
- 25:54Speaker 1: that he's not gonna let teams get over the top.
- 25:59Speaker 1: And they tried a few times, Joe Burrow trying to
- 26:01Speaker 1: get over the top multiple times with various receivers, not
- 26:05Speaker 1: just one receiver, multiple receivers, and there was always somebody there.
- 26:09Speaker 1: There was nobody running wide open. There was one where
- 26:12Speaker 1: maybe the ball was under thrown a little bit, put
- 26:14Speaker 1: a little bit too much air under it. But their
- 26:16Speaker 1: combination of disguising pressures, they'll they'll put five, six, seven
- 26:22Speaker 1: guys in the box and they'll only rush three or four,
- 26:25Speaker 1: you know, and you don't know which ones are coming,
- 26:27Speaker 1: and you don't know how they're coming with twists and
- 26:30Speaker 1: everything else. And they got consistent pressure with that. And
- 26:34Speaker 1: but then at the snap of the football, they're dropping
- 26:36Speaker 1: multiple people back and they're playing very deep umbrella coverage
- 26:41Speaker 1: and then people had taken underneath stuff running under after
- 26:45Speaker 1: the snap of the football, they have a good scheme.
- 26:48Speaker 1: They really do. And McDonald I think he's grown to
- 26:51Speaker 1: the job. I think he's gotten more confident as the
- 26:54Speaker 1: season's gone on. I think his players are more confident
- 26:57Speaker 1: than him. He's more confident in them. They're playing much
- 27:01Speaker 1: better football than they were in the beginning of the season.
- 27:04Speaker 1: I'm impressed with what they've done defensively, and they are
- 27:08Speaker 1: not going to be an easy football team to deal
- 27:10Speaker 1: with next week in the playoffs. I can tell you
- 27:12Speaker 1: that I don't want to tack your voice much longer.
- 27:14Speaker 1: But do you think the Ravens head back to Baltimore
- 27:17Speaker 1: feeling good about today, even though they lost by double digits.
- 27:22Speaker 1: I think they feel like they learn some things. I
- 27:26Speaker 1: think they feel like we've got some intel. We've got
- 27:29Speaker 1: things that we know that we can expand upon. Things
- 27:32Speaker 1: we know we can take too, you know, the second
- 27:35Speaker 1: level of what we showed. You know, there's always cat
- 27:38Speaker 1: and mouse going on, and I've been there. When you
- 27:41Speaker 1: play a team at the end of the regular season,
- 27:43Speaker 1: it's the first one you face in the playoffs. I mean,
- 27:47Speaker 1: you drive yourself nuts thinking are they going to abandon everything? No,
- 27:51Speaker 1: They're gonna be who they are. They have an identity.
- 27:54Speaker 1: They're gonna do things they know they do well, but
- 27:57Speaker 1: they're always tweaks, you know, a package to the second
- 28:02Speaker 1: and third level, and what is that second and third level?
- 28:04Speaker 1: And that uncertainty is what drives you crazy as you
- 28:08Speaker 1: try to prepare and anticipate what they might be doing. So,
- 28:12Speaker 1: I mean, what you have to do is just study,
- 28:15Speaker 1: study tape you know of them all year of the
- 28:17Speaker 1: progression and what they've done through the end of the season,
- 28:19Speaker 1: including your football game. And Frank Pollock established rules as
- 28:24Speaker 1: best you can to recognize and communicate what they're doing
- 28:28Speaker 1: and keep the rules as few and as simple as
- 28:30Speaker 1: you possibly can. Fortunately, you're not on the road dealing
- 28:33Speaker 1: with that crowd noise in Baltimore and having to deal
- 28:35Speaker 1: with all that crap. So having the home field advantage
- 28:39Speaker 1: I think is a big plus in that regard, you know,
- 28:42Speaker 1: and that's where it's going to start, you know, particularly
- 28:46Speaker 1: when you got guys you know that don't have any
- 28:52Speaker 1: just minimal snaps. The only snaps they have together at
- 28:54Speaker 1: right guard and right tackle. So what took place today
- 28:56Speaker 1: against the Ravens, you know, So, man, it's going to
- 29:00Speaker 1: be a challenge for Frank Pollock and so all year long,
- 29:05Speaker 1: it's been next man up, not just next next man
- 29:08Speaker 1: step up. Next man's gonna step up big time in
- 29:12Speaker 1: this one. I think if I'm the Ravens, I'm thinking
- 29:15Speaker 1: we started our third string quarterback and his first NFL start.
- 29:18Speaker 1: We rested our best running back, we rested one of
- 29:20Speaker 1: the best tight ends in the NFL, and we made
- 29:22Speaker 1: him sweat and if not for short fields and a
- 29:26Speaker 1: defensive touchdown, their offense didn't do that much against US.
- 29:30Speaker 1: I think that boosts Baltimore's confidence heading into the playoff rematch.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, when you look at it in the
- 29:36Speaker 1: second half, three and out, two plays, fumble, eight plays,
- 29:41Speaker 1: subtle for a field goal, three and out, three and out,
- 29:46Speaker 1: four downs, lose the football three and out three to
- 29:50Speaker 1: the last four possessions or three and outs, you have
- 29:52Speaker 1: a four down stop. I mean they shut him down.
- 29:56Speaker 1: They shut him down defensively. It it is going to
- 30:00Speaker 1: be It is going to be a challenge. I mean,
- 30:03Speaker 1: I think you won the football game, but I don't.
- 30:09Speaker 1: I don't think those guys were in there celebrating win
- 30:11Speaker 1: against the Ravens like you said before. I think they
- 30:14Speaker 1: were celebrating the entirety of the season, particularly after what
- 30:18Speaker 1: happened Monday night. I think they're just saying, man, after
- 30:21Speaker 1: we dealt with that, you know, we still won it.
- 30:23Speaker 1: We still finished it. We did what we needed to do.
- 30:27Speaker 1: We don't have to have a coin flip to decide
- 30:29Speaker 1: where we're playing. We have a pretty good idea of
- 30:32Speaker 1: who we're playing and where we're playing them. We just
- 30:34Speaker 1: don't know when. So um, yeah, it was. It was,
- 30:39Speaker 1: particularly when I was looking at the offensive lineman and
- 30:42Speaker 1: talking to those guys. I mean, I've been there. I
- 30:44Speaker 1: know what that's you know, it's like you're you're content
- 30:50Speaker 1: about a lot of things, but you know you may
- 30:52Speaker 1: have lost a comrade, a comrade in arms, and that's
- 30:57Speaker 1: never good, never a good feeling. So they were having
- 31:00Speaker 1: an emotional tug of war. I could see it, I
- 31:03Speaker 1: could feel it. I've been there. I know what it's like.
- 31:06Speaker 1: It sucks. The Bengals Booth Podcast is brought to you

- 31:27Speaker 1: where we get to know the person under the pads.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Time for some fun facts with defensive tackle BJ Hill.
- 31:35Speaker 1: If the Internet is accurate, your full name is Bobby
- 31:39Speaker 1: Jean Hill Junior. Have you always been called BJ? Oh? Yeah? Um,
- 31:44Speaker 1: this is always born. It was called Bjum Bobby, Um,
- 31:47Speaker 1: my dad's that's his name. 't just go BJ. So
- 31:51Speaker 1: how about on the first day of school when they're
- 31:53Speaker 1: reading off names, did the teacher used to say Bobby
- 31:57Speaker 1: Hill and your your schoolmates chuckle? They did even still
- 32:01Speaker 1: to this day when people always did like, oh, your
- 32:03Speaker 1: name is Bobby, but yeah, my name is Bobby. But yes,
- 32:06Speaker 1: that's why I go by go by b J. Yeah,
- 32:09Speaker 1: we're doing fun facts with b J. Hill. Your mom
- 32:11Speaker 1: was asked once to describe you when you were little,
- 32:14Speaker 1: and she interrupted the reporter and said, he was never little.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Did you always tower over the other kids? I did.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I was always the big guy in the room playing
- 32:24Speaker 1: sports too. I always stood out, you know, I was
- 32:28Speaker 1: always I was always big. Everybody was just way way
- 32:31Speaker 1: smaller than me. Did you like it? I loved it,
- 32:33Speaker 1: you know, I always came in handy playing sports, you know,
- 32:36Speaker 1: just have a recess and stuff like that. I loved
- 32:40Speaker 1: you were from Oakboro, North Carolina, a town of about
- 32:43Speaker 1: two thousand people forty five minutes or so from Charlotte.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Describe Oak Borrow, Um, it's a small town, hard working
- 32:51Speaker 1: people who love each other. One real light. I think
- 32:55Speaker 1: they might put two and just a couple years ago.
- 32:59Speaker 1: But this is a great town that I love. The
- 33:01Speaker 1: supported me so much. U. I love going back. I
- 33:04Speaker 1: love going back to elementary school there that I went to.
- 33:06Speaker 1: I've going back to my high school that I went there.
- 33:08Speaker 1: This is a great town that you you would love
- 33:11Speaker 1: to live in. Oak Burrow is very proud of you.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I believe Super Bowl Sunday was renamed B. J. Hill Day.
- 33:18Speaker 1: Will you always go back always? That's mess my hometown
- 33:22Speaker 1: for sure. I always got special place in my heart.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Um yeah, I will always go back and get back
- 33:28Speaker 1: to my community there. You attended West Stanley High School,
- 33:31Speaker 1: where you scored a thousand points in basketball. You played baseball.
- 33:35Speaker 1: You remember the track and field team. You obviously excelled
- 33:38Speaker 1: in football. When and why did football become the sport
- 33:42Speaker 1: you emphasized like basketball is my first sport. And now
- 33:46Speaker 1: I know, like my probably my sophomore junior year stopped growing.
- 33:50Speaker 1: So I'm like, all right, I don't think basketball is
- 33:53Speaker 1: gonna be before me. So I was like, you know what,
- 33:56Speaker 1: I think football. I think football is the sport. When
- 34:00Speaker 1: it came time to pick a college, you chose NC State,
- 34:02Speaker 1: about two hours away from home. Y NC State, UM
- 34:06Speaker 1: just felt right. Um, the coaches there, UM, the recruiting
- 34:10Speaker 1: classes there, we was recruiting it. It was just perfect,
- 34:13Speaker 1: perfect time and perfect great group of guys. Um. I
- 34:16Speaker 1: did grow up with the you know, the light blue
- 34:20Speaker 1: school fan. I'm not gonna say in the name, but
- 34:25Speaker 1: it just felt right. I just fell in love with
- 34:26Speaker 1: the coaches there and the culture and it just felt
- 34:29Speaker 1: like more like home. Um. And she stays like more
- 34:32Speaker 1: like a country type of vibe and that's what I
- 34:35Speaker 1: grew up on. One of your college roommates was one
- 34:39Speaker 1: of your current teammates, Jermaine Pratt. Were you roommates by choice?
- 34:44Speaker 1: And why did you hit it off? Um? They just
- 34:46Speaker 1: put us in the room. To be honest, We graduated
- 34:48Speaker 1: at high school early and UM, January they drew us
- 34:53Speaker 1: in the room. Four of us. UM, it just popped
- 34:55Speaker 1: off met him. So it was four roommates met him.
- 34:58Speaker 1: Was on one side and the other two on the
- 35:00Speaker 1: other side of the apartment. So it's just so it
- 35:02Speaker 1: worked out. Man, it was perfect. I'm glad to be
- 35:05Speaker 1: here with him. It has been great. So after four
- 35:08Speaker 1: great years at NC State, you were drafted in the
- 35:10Speaker 1: third round of the twenty eighteen draft by the New
- 35:13Speaker 1: York Giants. Describe your draft experience. Um, it was awesome. Like,
- 35:17Speaker 1: like I said, oak burw was behind me. It was.
- 35:19Speaker 1: It was one of the biggest days of my life
- 35:22Speaker 1: for sure. Um, you know, just a great opportunity to
- 35:25Speaker 1: go to a big city to show my talent. Um. Um,
- 35:29Speaker 1: it was really a great experience. Emotional, No, I didn't
- 35:33Speaker 1: get really emotional, but you know I was, you know,
- 35:36Speaker 1: very excited. Um, Like my family is very excited. They
- 35:39Speaker 1: just knew how much work I put in. I mean,
- 35:41Speaker 1: I wasn't surprised because I knew how much work I
- 35:44Speaker 1: put in to get to get there. So, as we mentioned,
- 35:48Speaker 1: you're off to the big city, New York City. Might
- 35:50Speaker 1: it changed from two thousand people in oak Borough? What
- 35:53Speaker 1: was that like for you? It was definitely different. You
- 35:55Speaker 1: see this is way more. It's just way faster. Um,
- 35:58Speaker 1: a lot of people, a lot of traffic, A big
- 36:01Speaker 1: shitty I'm like, what is going on? But I just
- 36:04Speaker 1: fell in love with I loved I loved the New
- 36:06Speaker 1: York it was it was great. Uh the food there
- 36:08Speaker 1: was amazing. Just going to city, take the train in
- 36:12Speaker 1: or take the waterway, the boat over, it was, the ferry,
- 36:17Speaker 1: it was. It was great. The Giants have had some
- 36:20Speaker 1: of the best pass rushers in history, Lawrence Taylor, Michael Strahand,
- 36:23Speaker 1: and others. The team record for single game sacks by
- 36:27Speaker 1: a rookie is held by you. You had three against
- 36:31Speaker 1: the Chicago Bears. What stands out about that game? I
- 36:34Speaker 1: was on fire. That game as one of the probably
- 36:38Speaker 1: one of my best games. Um, I don't even say
- 36:40Speaker 1: it was. It was a good game. I was just
- 36:42Speaker 1: on fire. Everything it was clicking. Um. I did hold
- 36:45Speaker 1: the rookie record for the season, but somebody broke it
- 36:48Speaker 1: I think two years ago. He's actually really a really
- 36:51Speaker 1: good pass rusher. But yeah, it was great. Like I said,
- 36:54Speaker 1: everything was clicking on the on the day. What's the
- 36:57Speaker 1: opposing offensive lineman look like when you are torching him
- 37:01Speaker 1: that badly? This is a long day for him. Man,
- 37:04Speaker 1: it's when you get three Saxons and one day. A
- 37:06Speaker 1: lot of people haven't done it, and I was fortunate
- 37:09Speaker 1: to be one of those guys that done it. It
- 37:11Speaker 1: was amazing. So you spent three years with the Giants,
- 37:13Speaker 1: you went through training camp before year four, and then
- 37:16Speaker 1: just before the start of the season you got traded
- 37:18Speaker 1: to the Bengals in August of last year. It's obviously
- 37:21Speaker 1: worked out great for you and for the team, but
- 37:23Speaker 1: that's a whirlwind situation. Was it difficult at first? It
- 37:28Speaker 1: was because you're just leaving a place which that you
- 37:30Speaker 1: knew for the last three years, you grew upon with
- 37:34Speaker 1: these guys on your D line. It was just doubt.
- 37:38Speaker 1: That kind of sucked is knowing that you were leaving,
- 37:40Speaker 1: Especially when I got told I didn't know I was
- 37:43Speaker 1: going to first, and then when I found out where
- 37:45Speaker 1: I was going, I was like, you know what Blues here,
- 37:49Speaker 1: he's a d C. He he's seen me play before. Jemaine.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I called him. He's like, man, you're not coming here.
- 37:55Speaker 1: You're not getting trade. It was like, all right, you
- 37:56Speaker 1: see the next day. Then I was like one of
- 37:58Speaker 1: the flight the next day came here. He met me here.
- 38:01Speaker 1: It was like it was everything just worked out perfect, man,
- 38:03Speaker 1: everything lined up how I was supposed to be. Just
- 38:06Speaker 1: grateful to be here. Man. They gave me a chance
- 38:09Speaker 1: to show my talent. Yeah, you had a great season.
- 38:13Speaker 1: You were into contract extension, and in the AFC Championship game,
- 38:16Speaker 1: you made one of the biggest defensive plays in franchise history.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Down by eight in the third quarter, you intercept Patrick
- 38:22Speaker 1: Mahomes to set up the game tying touchdown. Were you
- 38:25Speaker 1: surprised when you jumped up and the ball SMATs you
- 38:29Speaker 1: right in the hands for that pick? I knew the
- 38:31Speaker 1: ball is coming out fast a place, so I knew
- 38:33Speaker 1: I had to get my hands up, just get my
- 38:35Speaker 1: just get a tip if I want to call it,
- 38:37Speaker 1: or a tip. That trade had been right behind me
- 38:39Speaker 1: to pick it off. So it was a pretty cool
- 38:42Speaker 1: play to make, especially in that time where we needed
- 38:44Speaker 1: to turn over the get to start it. And it
- 38:48Speaker 1: was just a great play, great great timing. Right there
- 38:52Speaker 1: after that play and after some of your other big plays,
- 38:54Speaker 1: you do. The rock the Baby celebration is their personal
- 38:58Speaker 1: meaning behind that. I'm a Russell Westbrook fan. Um. I
- 39:03Speaker 1: just like the way he plays basketball, the way he
- 39:05Speaker 1: dominates the way he you know, just go about the
- 39:08Speaker 1: way he's stuff. And I see him do it, and
- 39:10Speaker 1: when he does it, like it just likes to fire
- 39:12Speaker 1: in me. I was like, I like that, So I look,
- 39:14Speaker 1: he stole it from him, not even looky hiki, I
- 39:17Speaker 1: stole it from him, And um yeah, it's I just
- 39:20Speaker 1: I just look what he does on the court. So
- 39:22Speaker 1: while we're on the subject of celebrations, earlier this year,
- 39:25Speaker 1: you tried to do the equivalent of a Lambeau leap
- 39:28Speaker 1: at pay Course Stadium. I guess it's a jungle jump
- 39:31Speaker 1: when it's in Cincinnati. It did not go particularly well.
- 39:34Speaker 1: Is that harder than it looks it is. I'm gonna,
- 39:37Speaker 1: you know what, we'll get it turned over. This week.
- 39:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna try it again, see see if I can
- 39:42Speaker 1: make it. But it is, it is very high. Um,
- 39:45Speaker 1: I was shocked out how it wasn't for I'm like, oh,
- 39:47Speaker 1: I can make it anything. I don't think I'll be
- 39:49Speaker 1: able to get up there. So what will be your
- 39:52Speaker 1: technique if you try again? Well, you do more of
- 39:54Speaker 1: a kind of a pull up move. I'm gonna tell
- 39:56Speaker 1: somewhere to push me up there, give me up there.
- 39:59Speaker 1: Help me out, have me throw me up there something
- 40:02Speaker 1: all right? A few wildcard topics now for b J. Hill.
- 40:05Speaker 1: What do you like to spend your money on food?
- 40:10Speaker 1: Like fancy restaurant food or buying stuff that you you know,
- 40:14Speaker 1: prepare at home during the season. Fancy food all season.
- 40:18Speaker 1: I like I like to grill. I like the going
- 40:20Speaker 1: and grill a little bit. BJ Hell is a grill
- 40:22Speaker 1: master just a little bit. Do you have a go
- 40:25Speaker 1: to one of my favorite things that cooks that everybody
- 40:28Speaker 1: loves my chicken wings? Like cook a little secret sauce
- 40:31Speaker 1: I can't tell you about, but yeah, it's pretty good.
- 40:33Speaker 1: All right. I'm salivating just at the thought of it.
- 40:36Speaker 1: You host a football camp for kids, a free football
- 40:39Speaker 1: camp back home in North Carolina. What's your message to
- 40:42Speaker 1: those kids? Um, just a dream big and that you
- 40:47Speaker 1: can do anything you put your money into. You don't
- 40:49Speaker 1: have to be football, You don't have to be any sports.
- 40:51Speaker 1: It can be a teacher, it can be a fight
- 40:55Speaker 1: to fight, it can be a police, whatever it is.
- 40:57Speaker 1: I just like whatever you pig just be great at
- 41:00Speaker 1: be successful, And you don't have to make a lot
- 41:02Speaker 1: of money to be successful. I think being successful is
- 41:05Speaker 1: up to you. It's what you think successful of being
- 41:08Speaker 1: successful is. And UM, that's why I tell them all
- 41:10Speaker 1: the time, even when I do other little events back
- 41:13Speaker 1: at home. I work with another another nonprofit that back
- 41:16Speaker 1: at home I do a lot of work with. UM,
- 41:18Speaker 1: tell them the same thing. UM, just just dream big
- 41:21Speaker 1: and you can do anything you want. It's a great message.
- 41:24Speaker 1: Final fun fact for b Jhill, and this one's kind
- 41:26Speaker 1: of deep. If you could meet anybody in history, an athlete,
- 41:31Speaker 1: an entertainer, a statesman, who would that person be. Hmm,
- 41:36Speaker 1: that's a great question. I'm gonna say my grandparents. I
- 41:39Speaker 1: never met my grandparents. They're all past and I heard
- 41:42Speaker 1: I heard a lot of great stories of how hard
- 41:46Speaker 1: they worked, Um, what they did to provide for our family.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Just just talk to them and just see how life
- 41:51Speaker 1: was and like what they did to you know, profile
- 41:55Speaker 1: from my family. I'm sure they would be very proud
- 41:57Speaker 1: of their grandson and the success he's had in the NFL.
- 42:00Speaker 1: I appreciate your time. Best of leuct the rest of
- 42:02Speaker 1: the year. Well, thank you, sir. That is Bobby gene
