- 0:18Hello, and welcome to Gatesleepers, the pop culture game show that shines a
- 0:22spotlight onto everyone's favorite fandoms. I'm your games master and titan god of evil,
- 0:29time and Harvest. Okay, Matt Watson, But a games master needs
- 0:34games, and games need players. So leap Frogs please welcome our first team.
- 0:40He's a podcaster, small business owner, and you can follow his food
- 0:43truck at Studio Munchie on Instagram. It's Jason Nowen. Oh. Hello,
- 0:48and he's a podcaster and author whose debut novel Thane is available where good books
- 0:53are sold. It's Aaron Randolph. Yes, indeed, I shall never find
- 0:57my weak spot nor take me down, not once, not ever. Hello.
- 1:03I love how chip are you? Especially you Aaron? Huh yeah,
- 1:07No, I'm happy to be here. Just don't gain anything at my heel,
- 1:11no reason. Nice good, first first reference, first related joke.
- 1:17I love it. Thank you so much for being here, both of you.
- 1:19We's notar with you, Aaron. How are you doing? Oh?
- 1:21I'm doing great. I got a Kickstarter for Fame the audiobook on the way.
- 1:26Yes, hopefully, well hopefully be launching in a couple of weeks.
- 1:30I've got a cast of voice actors lined up the Kickstarter page looks great.
- 1:34I made a Kickstarter video. It's it's just about ready to go. I
- 1:38just managed to lose my distribution partner, like until week before I was set
- 1:44to launch in the first place, so now I'm scrambling around to find another
- 1:49one. But once that's all set, then the Kickstarter is go, go
- 1:52go, So that's exciting. Yeah. Yeah, my PC broke. We
- 1:56wound up delaying this recording and then I fixed it myself, so I'm feeling
- 2:00good about that. Beautiful. So what I'm hearing is you are adaptable and
- 2:04competent. Yes, yes, not anything like a Greek god. Not anything
- 2:09like like that that massive characters. No, No, Greek mythology is like
- 2:16Jerry Springer if theology were a thing. Yes, so yeah, it's Jerry
- 2:23Springer of mythology is what it's the o G soap opera. Oh yeah,
- 2:29oh yeah, oh yeah, it's the og everything. It's influenced everything.
- 2:31But we'll get to that. It's great to have you here, Aaron Jason,
- 2:34how are you doing. I'm doing good. Don't ask me about my
- 2:37mom. Uh wasn't gonnaup. We're all feeling very very ancient Greek. I
- 2:47like this office all right, how's your Dad God? Which is also appropriate
- 2:55for this year. Yeah, you know, you know ye. So we're
- 3:01kind of come in at this episode through the through the lens of Percy Jackson,
- 3:05but we're making it broadly about Greek mythology. So are you a fan
- 3:08of either of those? Jason? Yeah, yeah, absolutely, We're gonna
- 3:12get into it with my mus for sure, but really enjoyed the New Disney
- 3:15show. Have not experienced this series prior to that, so I didn't come
- 3:21into it with any griefs or anything like that, but watched it with my
- 3:23twelve year old brother, who I think the target demographic is for, and
- 3:28so watching it through his eyes and watching him be obsessed with it and him
- 3:31just like hyper fixating on it for a bit was a lot more entertaining that
- 3:36I think some of these internet commenters had. So I had a fun time.
- 3:39I like it. Oh yeah, that's exactly That's that's who the show
- 3:42was made for. So yeah, it's good to know they're enjoying the target
- 3:45audience. Yeah, demographic is receiving that product effectively. Yeah, it feels
- 3:49kind of like young supernatural, like babies for supernatural, did you guys?
- 3:54Yeah, yeah, I take that. Yeah, all right. And your
- 3:58teammate, Aaron, how about yourself? You fin of a pussy jackson or
- 4:00Greek mythology or neitha listen, I don't know anything about this Jersey packson guy.
- 4:05I was a big into Greek mythology. I took Latin class, and
- 4:13so I took Latin class for like four years in high school. So and
- 4:15then that comes along with a lot of the Greek mythology stuff and touched a
- 4:23little bit on it as a theater major in college. But like recently I
- 4:27read the book Circe, and if you ever read it is a It is
- 4:30a fictionalized history of Circe from Greek mythology, and it is approximately three quarters
- 4:41of just depressing like awful Greek gods, humans and other people taking advantage of
- 4:48her and then turning on her. And it is really really hard to read
- 4:54for about three quarters of the book. The last quarter is better, is
- 4:59nicer, what you know, by that point, my spirit was destroyed,
- 5:02so you know, it's I have come to appreciate the nuances of the what's
- 5:08the word fuckery of Greek mythology. So yeah, there is a lot or
- 5:15in Latin, is it fuck us or something like that. I don't know.
- 5:20I'm not familiars. Yeah, fuckers, fucking fucking I think you just
- 5:29dropped the c bomb that it didn't mean to No, that that's good.
- 5:34Actually that you know Latin, because the rest of this quiz will be in
- 5:38Latin. So good luck to everyone else. So that for there to be
- 5:43another else, there needs to be opponents, and Greek myths are always about
- 5:46feuding factions, So let's introduce another mythical pair. He is a podcaster and
- 5:51author of comic book series Space Oddities, of which you can buy issues one
- 5:56and two right now. It's Ben Robinson. God damn first billing. Oh
- 6:00yeah, and she's a podcaster and that kid at school who was really into
- 6:06ancient Greece. It's Oudra Stepenson. It is I. I know how to
- 6:11tie a proper toga, and it is not in the way that you are
- 6:15doing now. Fantastic, Welcome Audra, Ben, Thank you both of you
- 6:20for being here. How are you both doing? Ben? We'll start with
- 6:24you, How are you doing? I'm doing great. I just got back
- 6:26from like a three week vacation in the Philippines. And it was you got
- 6:31to meet a bunch of family I didn't know existed, and I had a
- 6:36great time. I thought of the podcast while I was there because like the
- 6:42way they treat like the way fandom is there, like it's very much on
- 6:46your sleeve, like almost literally, so like as you go around, they've
- 6:49got all these like trikes, but it's like a motorcycle with a sidecar and
- 6:56stuff like that. Like they're all decked out in like whatever their own fandom
- 6:59is. Like you'll see like Batman and Mickey Mouse and Transformers logos, like
- 7:03same thing with like the Jeepneys. They got these old jeps that are like
- 7:05converted into public transport and they've just got whatever the person is into painted all
- 7:11over the side of them. Yeah, and it's freaking rat That is cool,
- 7:15Like there's no shame in it at all. Like I was walking down
- 7:16the street in log and like I look over because I was looking for a
- 7:20comic book for John. He wanted a Filipino comic book, and I see
- 7:25full size, like full scale sized statues of Superman, Batman, Spider Man,
- 7:32and then inside they had busts of like spider Man twenty ninety nine,
- 7:36like and I was like, oh shit, is it a comic shop and
- 7:39it looking aside the window. Nope, it's a chicken wing restaurant. Yah.
- 7:46They just like, you know, the guy has some extra business money
- 7:49and decides he wants a six foot tall Batman statue. This hits home considering
- 7:54my current business model. This is the right. On the way down to
- 8:01Megfest, we stopped at the geekiest pizzeria I've ever seen. Had video game,
- 8:07comic book, movie memorabilia plastering the walls. It was everywhere. It's
- 8:11lovely, fantastic. People have got to eat. Like it goes hand in
- 8:15hand. Ben, you dropped some of the pictures in the in the chat
- 8:18and the name of the store is Wings and More, and I like that
- 8:22and more is really vague, but what they mean is life size. Right,
- 8:26there is definitely one big statues that's fantastic, Like I love Wait what
- 8:33what fandoms? That what Fandom's the central men? So okay, So that
- 8:39one I just dropped because it was ridiculous. So that is the mayor.
- 8:43That is the mayor of one of the cities we went to of like one
- 8:46of the sections of Manila. I think it was okay, okay, it
- 8:50was up near the log. It was somewhere near log anyway. It was
- 8:52a mayor of one of the towns, and there's a zoo that he funds
- 8:56and one of the rooms you go into has about eighty animals that he's killed
- 9:00and stuffed in it and all over him, and then he's just got this
- 9:03giant painting of him as a fucking centaur. That's really impressive that he managed
- 9:07to kill and skin all those animals with just two yeah, four legs centaurs.
- 9:16This centaurs though incredible archers, so yeah, and actually better at hunting
- 9:22than humans, the kings of the hunt. So honestly, it's less impressive
- 9:26that he got all those animals. Yeah, it's like you've done that avantage
- 9:31from the get go. A second, the kind of guy with the ego,
- 9:35with that ego is just it was it was impressive to be in the
- 9:37shadow of this is like, this is light stuff right here. We did
- 9:43get to take a picture with a tiger at that zoo, though, like
- 9:48they just had it drugged out, sitting on a piece of concrete, like
- 9:52we went on like they're like, okay, stand behind it, and then
- 9:54the guy's just like shoving it to get it to like move into the right
- 9:56position. And it's like, I hope he gives his pills one day.
- 10:05It just pretends to be sleepy. It's great to hear that that was such
- 10:13a fantastic trip, Ben, and that you thought about the podcast on the
- 10:16way out there. That's that's awesome. Other than liberating tigers everywhere, how
- 10:22are you doing, I'm having a great time. I loved Greek mythology growing
- 10:26up, still do to this day. I'm so happy there's an excuse for
- 10:31us to do it, yeah, as a thing, because without I feel
- 10:35like, without the release of the show on Disney, this may not have
- 10:39been an episode where I got to, oh, we to go round to
- 10:43it eventually. Season I was going to say season twenty four, we would
- 10:48have eventually gotten there. But I'm just grateful that the gods have presented an
- 10:56opportunity. Hell, yes, I am the god. Yes, yeah,
- 11:03wow in this situation. Yeah, just technically yes, yeah, I'm glad
- 11:07you admitted it. I can't even argue no, it's just yet, it
- 11:11felt like the right thing. We're officially giving him a complex, that's what
- 11:15we're doing. It's weird to be the god of podcasts, though, because
- 11:18your constituents are controversial to say the least. I don't know. It's true.
- 11:22My kingdom is not looking very strong right now. Yeah, your temple
- 11:26is an enclosed room with led lights and a guy in the corner named Jamie
- 11:31looking up things on the laptop. Yeah, not not a good companions.
- 11:37It's it's it's good to know you're doing well, and it's good to know
- 11:39you're also readly into Greek mythology. So Ben, I'll ask you the same
- 11:45question, are you into Percy Jackson, Greek mythology or none of the above.
- 11:50I mean Greek with like I've got a passing knowledge that point. Yeah,
- 11:56So so anything Andre says later is probably the extent of what I got
- 12:00of Greek mythology. Like it's it's been around and it is interesting, and
- 12:03I've seen like Hercules, both Kevin Sorbo and Disney nice so like I yeah,
- 12:11so I've got I've got like a rough knowledge of stuff there as far
- 12:16as Percy Jackson goes, it's Greek to me, like my son watched it,
- 12:22and that's about it. I've not read or consumed hardly anything other than
- 12:26seeing bits of the movie here and there. So okay, okay, well
- 12:28that's I think the teams are pretty pretty well balanced. Given Audrey and Aaron's
- 12:33like more deep knowledge, I think we're in for a clash of the Titans
- 12:39than you. Is this yeah that you have. I've got to compliment that,
- 12:46because you compliment in mind. Yeah right, I'm leaving no one would
- 12:52blame you. Okay, teams, You've just been diagnosed with ADHD because you're
- 13:00the son of Poseidon. It stands for absent daddy hydro disorder. And this
- 13:05is of course life changing news. So to keep us grounded, I'd like
- 13:07each pair to come up with a Greek mythology themed team name. Please.
- 13:11We'll begin with Jason and Aaron. I wrote some down. I came prepared.
- 13:16These are not half bad, maybe, Okay, I've got the half
- 13:22bloods, which seems like a charged term if I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 13:26Yeah, it's what else? You got? Lightning thieves? Basic?
- 13:31Uh? I got the dead beat dads, because boy is there a lot
- 13:35of them. Also, just putting all the kids in one camp with all
- 13:39there with a big sigil saying this is what unifies you, lack of father
- 13:45very strange. Just wanted to put that out there. I've got a moose.
- 13:50Zeus really has nothing to do with zeus generally quite good. Yeah,
- 13:56all right, Aaron, what do you think of those team names? Have
- 13:58you got any of your own? Or do any of those two? I
- 14:01was struggling to come up with something involving echo. Echo was a mountain nymph
- 14:07who just loved to talk, but Harry cursed until all she could do was
- 14:13repeat other people's words. She became the Echo, but I couldn't. I
- 14:18don't know Percy Jackson well enough to tie that in with anything else, but
- 14:22Echo. Also, it feels very appropriate for a mythology where there are lots
- 14:28of deadbeat dads, because a sun or a daughter left behind is a natural
- 14:33echo of their missing current. Yeah, that's an actually quite poetic and sad
- 14:37way to look at it. Yeah, how about a dead beat echo,
- 14:43a dead beat echo? Beat echoes this. Yeah, I'm the dead beat
- 14:54echoes. Wow, Okay, I'm gonna put a dead beat echo because that's
- 14:58just intriguing to me. Mm hmm, that'd be echo. I love it.
- 15:03All right, let's find out who they'll be facing, Ben Ultra,
- 15:05I've got a few. I don't know if any of them are any good.
- 15:09I'm hoping, like you're a Greek mythology lord, you got something deep.
- 15:11But uh so the first one was the obvious one, just like the
- 15:16demi gods, because that's all I know about Percy Jackson is their demi gods,
- 15:22right, because they're all like kids of gods. Then I had the
- 15:26Sisyphian savants because with my yeah, with my lack of knowledge, you're going
- 15:31to be pushing this boulder up the hill. Adra why and uh and then
- 15:39uh on the in the in Dick joke, territory of Zeus is pounding posts
- 15:43because that guy's just you feel fucking Along a similar line, I do have
- 15:50the Delphic horricles. Also have Delphic scoricles because we will be scored. It
- 16:00depends whether you're feeling competitive or sexy. Yeah, typically both. I mean,
- 16:06come on, what don't don't put us in a corner. You can
- 16:08be two things. Yeah, there's also Jason used Lightning Thief. But one
- 16:17of the other book titles is The Last Olympian, So the Last Olympians the
- 16:22reference. Yes. Also I looked up which god would be the god of
- 16:26games. Mm hm, and it would probably be Hermes. Yeah, so
- 16:32Hermi's heroes. Oh that's nice. Alliteration is always good. All right,
- 16:37Well, what you're picking out of all those offerings? I mean, I
- 16:41like the Horracles. Greek is very sexy. Yeah, yeah, Greek.
- 16:45So I'm down for that one. Okay. So it's the Delphic Horracles.
- 16:51Horracles and we could just shout horricle Yes, yeah, shout horror if you
- 16:56want. I don't know, probably not on me say that, I'm probably
- 17:02gonna do it. I suggest we shout echo because shouting deadbeat might be a
- 17:06little triggering. Yeah no. And you were like, oh, man,
- 17:11children are just the echoes of their dead, their their absent fathers. I
- 17:14was like, what the fuck, that's crazy. I don't like looking like
- 17:21my dad, so I have to think about that ship. Sorry, sorry,
- 17:23sorry, So it's a deadbeat echo, a kid without a dad that
- 17:27abandons his own kids like a second generation. Wow, should just keep going
- 17:34on and on and on. Now now they're shade on our team name,
- 17:37dammit. And you shout into the mountains and you hear that that final response,
- 17:42that fifth or sixth rattle, that's that's an abandoned child. I'm okay,
- 17:48we have a deadbeat echo versus the Delphic Horracles. Two fantastic names,
- 17:53all right. And if you're listening to this and thinking, I'm ludo for
- 17:56a laugh, but it's all Greek to me. Has already said that Jack
- 18:00don't worry his order with a little segment we like to call passing knowledge.
- 18:07Percy Jackson in the Olympians is a series of children's books written by Rick Ryordon
- 18:12and originally published from two thousand and five to two thousand and nine. The
- 18:17story follows Percy Jackson, a demigod and son of Poseidon, as he navigates
- 18:22a world where Greek mythology intertwines with the modern day, alongside his friends from
- 18:26Camp Hathblood, Annabeth Chase, and Grover the Satyr. Percy Jackson follows in
- 18:32the ancient heroes footsteps, embarking on quests to prevent catastrophic events and battling ancient
- 18:37monsters, although I guess the original heroes would probably just have called them monsters.
- 18:44But neither here nor there. The book series had two film adaptations in
- 18:48twenty ten and twenty thirteen, and most recently a television adaptation on Disney Plus
- 18:55in twenty twenty. Three. Ancillary reference books, comic book versions, and
- 18:59two spin off book series have been released up until now in twenty twenty four.
- 19:03WHOA. The series blends humor with clever reimaginings of ancient myth. I'd
- 19:10even go as far to say that Rick Ryordon is my Roman Empire and that
- 19:14he took Greek myths, gave them slightly different names, remixed their stories,
- 19:18put his name on him to great success. Nice. Also, like the
- 19:22Roman adaptations, Rordan's modern twist on classic myths breeds new life into age old
- 19:29stories, making them accessible and entertaining for a new generation. That being said,
- 19:34the Oracle predicts for the next generation a new release of Percy Jackson now
- 19:40with thirty percent RIHZ and twenty percent less CAP. Thanks Soldre. Did you
- 19:49even have to do any research for that one? Or was that all top
- 19:52of the dome for the dates? For the dates? Wow, that's about
- 19:57it. Have you read all the books? I have read the original series
- 20:03and one of the ancillary that's still pretty impressive series. The other ones were
- 20:07coming out as as I mentioned, and going back and reading some of them,
- 20:11they are for that younger demographic in the sense of like twelve, So
- 20:15rereading them is not the same as like rereading the Hunger Game, right,
- 20:21Like the intended age demographic is a little bit a little bit different. So
- 20:26I didn't continue into the twenty twenty four books. The show was so much
- 20:30fun though, But yeah, you twelve year olds are enjoying it, That's
- 20:33that's what matters. And next time there'll be more cap and no less caps
- 20:38cap more riz. Yeah I did. That was the other thing that I
- 20:42had to google. Do kids still say those things? Probably not of this
- 20:45part? Yeah, yeah, I was gonna say, am I just old?
- 20:51Like, I not understand that at all? That's the thing we're saying
- 20:55them. It means that then the longest say I'm done. Okay, I'm
- 20:59saying that's fair. That's fair. Oh with thirty okay, thirty boy,
- 21:10do I miss those days? A quarter of my life ago? Okay,
- 21:18before I offend any more players, let's get to the muses, which actually
- 21:25makes sense as a format point this time, it's all it's the muses.
- 21:27Aw, yeah, all right, So is that the first time it's made
- 21:33sense? I feel like somewhat right, have we ever? If we've never
- 21:37done like a two thousands banned kind of game show. Makes sense. There,
- 21:45we got, there, we go. We were all supposed to pick
- 21:48seven of them, right, yep, everyone brings springs in seven and six
- 21:53hours long. Careful you're opening You're opening a Pandora's box here, buddy.
- 21:57Okay, okay. So I've asked our players to bring in a muse that's
- 22:03something that inspires them or something they love from this particular fandom. Percy Jackson
- 22:07is inspiring to me because if you surround yourself with a whip smart girl and
- 22:11a lovable boy, you get to be the main character. Jason, We'll
- 22:18start with you. What's inspiring you? From Greek mythology? I don't like
- 22:21that. I'm grover. I just loud, Yeah, what's inspiring me?
- 22:26So I'm gonna for some of you in that age demographic that we just talked
- 22:30about. I'm about to give you a blast of the past. Do you
- 22:33remember a book at your local bookstore and it was embossed in gold everywhere and
- 22:40there's this like big ornate like symbol with a big fat jewel in the end,
- 22:42and it was always something ology theologies book? Man? I do Oh
- 22:48my fucking God, the absolute hyperfixation of a generation to get into things like
- 22:53mythology, the gods, heroes and monsters of age and Greece. There you
- 22:56go, parentheses, theologies, Man frickin Egyptology eighteen million ology books sold amazing.
- 23:04What I had that one Dragonology, one Book of Dragons. Well,
- 23:11those things that existed, well on wizard ology, I didn't. I didn't
- 23:17know the Book of the Secrets of Merlin. Yeah, there's to be fair.
- 23:22The Greek gods aren't really either. Yes, that is true. That
- 23:26is true you talking about it'd be something in that book that also covered maybe
- 23:30a contemporary Greek society or something like that. But I can't imagine they can
- 23:36do that with the dragon one. Okay, but spies are real and spiology
- 23:40of spycraft for twelve year old instead of a gem in the middle. Is
- 23:44it just like a laser? Yes, basically it's like an Indiana Jones relic
- 23:52going to design children's books. It's easy money. They're stupid, how dare
- 24:00you? But yeah, the ology books. Yeah, ology books just things
- 24:04that I got really into. And I think something I've talked about recently as
- 24:08I think Greek mythology and Egyptology and all these other things are like the gateway
- 24:12for people to get super into Loar. I think comic books and wrestling and
- 24:18even sports are just modern day myths. Agree. I think that's basically what
- 24:22the show is all about. So theologies. Thank you nice, nice.
- 24:26Yeah, good to know all your Greek mythology comes from the publishers of Wizardology.
- 24:33Okay, let's move on over to your teammates, Aaron, what is
- 24:36your muse? I mean, the only thing I can think of is something
- 24:40I've already mentioned, like I said, but I might as well give it
- 24:42a proper introduction. Circe is a novel by Madeleine Miller, nice enough to
- 24:48get the author in there. Now that I'm an author, I'm much more
- 24:52sensitive sort of look you go. Yeah, And I know I talked about
- 24:56it like it was horrible, but it really wasn't. I'm glad to have
- 25:00read it, but I don't think I'll ever reread it, if that makes
- 25:03sense. Yes, definitely, because it was it was very very heavy.
- 25:08Having said that, I did enjoy it, and it did give me,
- 25:11I feel a wider perspective on Greek mythology and the good things about it,
- 25:18and a lot of the bad things about it, so I have I have
- 25:22a I have a deeper appreciation because of that book. So I would definitely
- 25:27choose that as my muse. Hell, yes, that's that's definitely a muse.
- 25:30Always good to get a deeper understanding and appreciation of something you already know
- 25:36a bunch about. Yeah, yeah, we've got nerds. We've got nerds
- 25:38over it with books by Lady Hestia Evans. Read the one about wizards.
- 25:45My master Merlin author's struggling. I'm shore with seventeen million copies, so they
- 25:52need the they need the sales. Breaking it in JK who all right,
- 26:00two fantastic muses from a deadbeat echo, my favorite emo band. But now
- 26:06we will move on the Delphic oracles and Ben, what is inspiring you from
- 26:10Greek mythology? So my amuse is Odin all right, Not not the Norse
- 26:17God because that's the wrong pantheon. But my son who is really I mean
- 26:23like is the only portal I have into the Percy Jackson verse. But like
- 26:29he was super into it when he was about ten and eleven, so he
- 26:33you know, he read all the books. You know, I watched it,
- 26:37you know bits and pieces of the movies with him. I mean,
- 26:40he was super into and you guys have never met him, but he talks
- 26:44a lot, and if he's interested about something, he talks about it a
- 26:48lot. I've heard many, many things about Percy Jackson, some of which
- 26:56I retained, Yes, yeah, nice and I you know, listen in
- 27:00too, but there was a lot of it that just went right over my
- 27:03head. Yeah, a full disclosure. I was going to bring him in
- 27:07here to sit over there, and he's secretly on the mic feeding me answers,
- 27:11but he had too much homework to do, so that she hid game
- 27:18shows on the internet for one hundred people are more important than homework. Sucks.
- 27:23Podcast rules, podcast rules. I mean, I tried to invite a
- 27:27Greek muse to hang out with me and feed me stuff, but she was
- 27:30busy. Yeah, that's what always, they're always busy. Yeah, that's
- 27:36a fantastic mews Ben. It's it's wholesome as hell to be inspired by your
- 27:41son who has a rat as hell name. And finally, Audra, the
- 27:47other half of the Delphic Horracles. What is inspiring you about Greek mythology or
- 27:52Percy Jackson? My muse is the Muses. They are inspiring me forward.
- 28:00There wasn't really one of like games per se, So I'm just gonna take
- 28:04a little bit of all of them because there's there's comedy, there's artistry.
- 28:10There's not really music out It's fine, Caliope, I'm not going to get
- 28:18through. But the Muses are probably my inspiration to push me forward. Someone
- 28:26had to do it, someone had to get matter, and I'm glad someone
- 28:29did. Your muse is the Muses, Yes, I love it. Am.
- 28:33I allowed a second muse real quick. Of course you're allowed to if
- 28:36it's muse. Am. I allowed three music to the band Muse Lovely number
- 28:48three. Growing up, I wasn't allowed to read Harry Potter, I wasn't
- 28:52allowed to read Twilight. I wasn't allowed to read so many things. And
- 28:56now when I look it up Percy Jackson, because of the increased visibility towards
- 29:02it, has some blogs being like, this book is not about God and
- 29:07it's gonna say that there's other gods and they're real, and so sometimes like
- 29:11some of them are saying that there's like a let's ban Percy Jackson. But
- 29:17overwhelmingly it was perfectly fine as one of those like hero books with a mythology
- 29:23and with a lore that I was allowed to read. That's really interesting and
- 29:30so wow, boy did I what's your fourth muse? Is it the sound
- 29:38that kittens make? Mus we can get all sevens is the guy who played
- 29:48Jay and Jay and Silent Bob Jason. There we go, Oh my goodness,
- 29:52Aaron six Please someone we can end this segment. Strong music is to
- 30:00listen to and very sick cow sound. I love it. You pray for
- 30:10them? That was some fine, fine comedy. Teams, let's accept the
- 30:15call to adventure and cross those threshold guardians into round one. Round one is
- 30:23our trivia game, and it's called good Reads or in this case God Reads.
- 30:30Technically, DEMI, let's not okay, this copy has gotten away from
- 30:34me. Let's in this game. I will give our teams a genuine quote
- 30:38by a generic sounding y A protagonist. Our pairs must then simply decide if
- 30:45this was said by Percy Harry or the risky option. See that will be
- 30:49different for every question. Thomas Thomas, which y A protagonist? Harry diesel
- 31:03Kens everywhere Thomas the time kensh The lord is so rich and rich. It
- 31:10comes to a big show promo. Yes, so it'll be Percy Jackson,
- 31:17Harry Potter, or a mystery option see for each question. So we will
- 31:21begin with a deadbeat echo. Here is your first quote from a YA protagonist.
- 31:26Deadlines just aren't real to me until I'm staring one in the face.
- 31:32Was that Percy, Harry or Ferris Bueler? Oh, that's gotta be fairis
- 31:37right? Eron one two? Edgy? For Harry? Harry wishes he was.
- 31:41It doesn't ring true for Harry. For me, Harry tended to take
- 31:48deadlines pretty seriously. And uh, but I don't know Percy Jackson well enough
- 31:55to negate it. So I'm willing to go with you on Ferris Bueller if
- 31:57you want. At least played in the Disney Plus show. The actor who
- 32:04played Percy was very optimistic. He was very like he was like an very
- 32:07daring child who always he was like a Peter Parker type of character, and
- 32:12that he saw like the good and like the most passive and optimistic perspective or
- 32:17choice that he could make, at least in the first book. So that's
- 32:21why I'm pushing towards Ferris, because Ferris is cool. Ferris would say something
- 32:24like that, Yeah, he's a cool guy. He's a cool guy.
- 32:28I must say, I must say Ferris. Yeah, all right, you
- 32:30both you're both saying Ferris. Yeah, it's not this is Percy Jackson.
- 32:37I haven't read the book, so towards the end of the first book,
- 32:38he's reflecting on his ADHD talking about that. Dang deadlines just don't real to
- 32:44me. Uti, I'm starting one in the face. But it's a cool
- 32:45thing to say. Still, it is a cool too cool for Harry.
- 32:47We both knew it wasn't Harry. Yeah, yeah, we'll move on over
- 32:52to the Delphic Oracles. I'm saying it like that, not with a hard
- 32:55w or. I suppose it would be a hard hate, wouldn't it.
- 33:00Okay, here's your quote. Why would I go looking for someone who wants
- 33:04to kill me? Is that a Percy b Harry or C. Frodo Baggins?
- 33:10I think this is Harry. Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
- 33:14I mean, full disclosure. I also haven't read Harry Potter, so that's
- 33:17okay at this part. That's fine, but it doesn't sound like Frodo to
- 33:22me. I'll tell you that. Yeah, I read them so much after
- 33:25I left the Rules of not being able to read them. I think this
- 33:30is when he's looking for serious Black. I think I think I know when
- 33:34Harry Potter says that, that is when he's never mind. Sorry I should
- 33:40I should say interg Yeah, okay, so you're both happy to go with
- 33:49Harry for this one. Yes, yeah, it is Harry, Yes,
- 33:52this is this is Potter just absolutely right too, and older is dead on
- 33:55it is about serious Black. When he's told about who serious Black, well,
- 33:59not who he is, but he's yeah, oh yeah, that's before
- 34:01he knows who serious is. Yeah, I gotcha. I just knew a
- 34:07lot of quite a few people wanted to kill Harry Potter. So I'm not
- 34:10certain that that's the case YaCy Jackson, but probably it's. It's his main
- 34:14thing. It's his main thing. Yeah, the whole Yeah, I wonder
- 34:17why the author has a victim complex? And next question, next quote for
- 34:25a deadbeat echo, I don't go looking for trouble. Trouble usually finds me.
- 34:30Oh god, this a Percy B Harry or C. Taylor Swift.
- 34:37Oh no, no, no, My first instinct was Harry again, because
- 34:45he's constantly accused of it. Why do all these things happen when you three
- 34:49are around, you know, is the thing? Like all yeah, yeah,
- 34:52and I'm pretty sure at one point he gets upset about it. He's
- 34:55like, listen, all right, I am a literal lightning bolt for bad
- 35:00crap to happen. So yeah, that's absolutely fair. I would understand if
- 35:05he said something like this, but I don't know if he said that exact
- 35:07quote. Again, I don't know. Percy Jackson can't say, and don't
- 35:12know Taylor Swift can't say. It's an it's an unfortunate thing that the two
- 35:16men got the Taylor Swift. I don't know anything about Taylor. I just
- 35:22know that Harry Potter didn't say it's me. I'm the problem. It's me
- 35:28He should he should have done if he accepted it, like though those books
- 35:31would have ended much faster. Yeah, I wish I was in the zeitgeist.
- 35:37My t Swift knowledge is not fair. I want to go. My
- 35:42instincts is actually saying, Percy, I'm not gonna lie to you, but
- 35:45okay, if you want to overrule me, go ahead. My gut,
- 35:47says Harry. But it's your call. If I pull the trigger, you
- 35:52have full rain. Next question I'm giving it over. Yeah, all right,
- 35:57you're going with Harry for this one. No, no, no,
- 36:00I'm pulling, you're pulling the trigger, You're Pullmerican, have the full next
- 36:05question. It's not Percy, it's Harry. Possibly the question, the rest
- 36:12of the round, the rest of the game, the rest of the game.
- 36:14I'm so sorry. It's okay, It's okay, couldn't. All I'm
- 36:17doing is I'm trying to put it in Harry's little, gross, young British
- 36:22boy voice of just like, why is everything so hard? I'm looking for
- 36:30trouble. Trouble usually finds me. Yeah, it's actually remembered. Yeah,
- 36:34I remembered the Maggie Smith. I can't remember the character's name, but I
- 36:37remember saying something too Harry along those lines and him being defensive about it,
- 36:42and I was like, I think that's the line he says, but I
- 36:44wasn't sure. So dang. Yeah, your Harry Potter knowledge is better than
- 36:46mine. Yeah, he just he says it casually to someone at age thirteen,
- 36:50like you know how all thirteen year old's talk. Yeah, but yeah,
- 36:53good analysis there, Aaron, But unfortunately, I'm sorry, no point,
- 36:57it's not even captain anymore. And overruling. We have no captain system.
- 37:00Yeah, it's just we've ended our communists already. It's crying. Yeah,
- 37:07okay, back on over to the Delphi Oracles. Here is your next
- 37:10quote. My startling discovery, flaming breath is hot? Was that a Percy
- 37:17b Harry or C Terry and Lanister? I don't remember Tyran saying anything like
- 37:22this. He's usually a little bit more eloquent than that. Yeah. I
- 37:28don't know why I feel Percy. I feel like that's the that's a type
- 37:31of that feels like a Rick ryed and joke, I mean, breaking newsires
- 37:38hot? Was there? Like you've read these books, was there a point
- 37:43at which either of the main characters breathed fire? Oh? Not? But
- 37:51no, no, no, but what there's some there's some fucking dragons and
- 37:58Harry Potter. I don't I don't know this one. I'm gonna be honest
- 38:02with you. Some dragons, Wetterrian as as well, lots of Oh yeah,
- 38:07how did I not consider that? Ah? I mean my initial gut
- 38:12was also Percy, but it was based on, you know, the ether
- 38:15of the universe and no actual knowledge. So let's just say the Delphic horracle
- 38:20is speaking through you. Okay, are the Delphic horacles. So we're gonna
- 38:24go for Percy just based on the ether. Look, always believe oracles and
- 38:29mystics. It is Percy. Yeah, absolutely correct. Yeah. Wow,
- 38:34the gas went through that and the floor made us high and sometimes right.
- 38:39Yeah, I thought I could trick you with the dragon related properties, but
- 38:43no Ah, all right, next quote for a death beat echo, We're
- 38:49all right, We're good, all right. We could all do with a
- 38:52few laughs. I've got a feeling we're going to need them more than usual
- 38:55before long. Was that Percy, Harry or the Joe cut? There's no
- 39:01way it's the Joker. There's no way why I know. I'm not shut
- 39:07your mouth, though, hold on, you know that's not him. I'm
- 39:10not entirely sure what Matt's criteria for a young adult kids. It's it's falling
- 39:21a pot as her out here reading Batman. I am just going to mix
- 39:27the Joker right off the bat I don't. There's no way. I agree.
- 39:30I can see Harry saying something like this in book six or book seven.
- 39:36Wow, he's got it down to the book, especially when they're on
- 39:38the run like Ron says something funny in her mind. He snaps at him,
- 39:44and then Harry goes, we could all use some humor, but it's
- 39:46gonna get worse. Just heads up. That sums up the Harry Paula series
- 39:51right there, so I could. I'm leaning Harry, But again I don't
- 39:55know Percy Jackson well enough to say we go do this time, Jason,
- 40:00I am letting my guilt completely Overripe. I'm going to say that Aaron's the
- 40:07smartest guy and his knowledge of Harry Potter is impeccable, which is going to
- 40:13serve us well in this Percy Jackson episode. I'm going with Harry as much
- 40:16as I would have loved it if you'd have hyped Aaron up like that only
- 40:20for him to be wrong. Aaron is actually correct Harry, who says that
- 40:24three Harry fucking questions. No, I think you've heard. The first one
- 40:30was Percy Percy Harry Harry. Okay, not to give your order away of
- 40:34what it's been, but all right, do you just gain me that tower
- 40:42benefits? So who okay? Next quote for the Delpha Coracles, here we
- 40:45go. I will trample you to death. Silly Chinese Canadian baby man is
- 40:53that a Percy B Harry or c Eric Kautman. I mean it's well,
- 41:05so it sounds like a Cartman quote, like, I can't I can't see
- 41:07that fitting. I mean there is some casual racism in uh in Harry Commer
- 41:12casual. Oh, she's very very hal towards their h I know that's Can
- 41:22you read that one more time? Please? You canna make me say and
- 41:28I quote, I will trample you to death, silly Chinese Canadian baby man?
- 41:32Like are there Chinese Canadian babymen in either of the books like this?
- 41:36There's only one I know of, and that's Seemulu and we love him so
- 41:44h like I would lean towards Eric Cartman on this. Also, it just
- 41:46into the meta. It hasn't been seen, It hasn't been you don't remember,
- 41:51you don't remember Harry Potter and the fight against Justin Bieber, Like,
- 41:54I mean, come on, because it hasn't been seen, it either has
- 42:00to be seen or is definitely not see what is what if he's really trying
- 42:05to fuck with us and it's Harry Potter from an episode of South Park,
- 42:10You bastard. He's got me doubting everything now that yeah, And I haven't
- 42:15even not to say anything for a whole sixty times. That would use a
- 42:22parody version of that character from another thing. Uh huh, he absolutely would.
- 42:27Was Harry Potter in South Park. I haven't watched South Park in a
- 42:30long time. I bet Percy Jackson wasn't. I bet he wasn't. But
- 42:34Harry Potter might have. Harry Potter might have been. Oh gosh, now
- 42:37we've made it even harder on ourselves. Do we just want to go with
- 42:42Cartman? I don't know. Yeah, I'm fine with that. That was
- 42:45again, that was my first impression. All right, yes, you're going
- 42:47with common. It is not common. It is not Eric Comptman. This
- 42:52was pussy. Oh that's christ is pussy. But it's not. Percy says
- 42:57it in the book. But he's trying slating for a Pegasus. So it's
- 43:01a Pegasus who says this, who's racist. So the Pegasus is racist.
- 43:07And Percy's like, you don't want to hear what he's got to say,
- 43:09because he just said, I will drap you today, Chinese Canadian baby.
- 43:14I always knew horses were racist, dude, Oh you always knew that.
- 43:17Yeah, I always knew that. Man in this situation. That is exactly
- 43:22the kind of thing Kirtman would say, Yeah, that part I don't know,
- 43:27Ben, I don't know, or maybe Aldre can answer, who the
- 43:30do you know? Now? It could be from one of the later Bucks
- 43:34will say yes, just to maintain my pride. That's that's long, gun.
- 43:42Yeah, Okay, I've got one final quote for each team, So
- 43:45back on over to a deadbeat echo for your final quote. All right,
- 43:49for once I didn't look back? Was this said by Percy, Harry or
- 43:53Miles Morales? Oh shit, this does not feel like a Harry Potter quote.
- 44:00I mean, your Harry Potter knowledge has been popping off, so I'm
- 44:04gonna I'm gonna trust your gun on that. I feel if Matt was gonna
- 44:07pull a Miles Morales quote, it would have been from the Spider Verse movies,
- 44:10And if I'm being honest, his entire arc throughout those movies seem to
- 44:15be about never looking back. So for him to say for once, I
- 44:20didn't look back doesn't seem right, do you concur I will be honest,
- 44:27I did not see into the Spider Verse. It is on my list.
- 44:30I know I have to see it, and I will, but I have
- 44:32not seen it yet, so I cannot answer your question with any assistance whatsoever.
- 44:37I love the old, familiar geek and nud culture tone of like,
- 44:40I'm aware this is the zeit guys a cultural touchstone. Everybody loves this movie,
- 44:47and I seem to see it like an apology tone. That's the tone
- 44:53is, please don't come to me. I'm trying so hard not to be
- 44:57that Toxicuy. It's like you haven't seen Titan James Cameron. Yeah. Yeah,
- 45:05uh. In that case, doing that elimination, you want to shoot
- 45:07for Percy because that boy be looking back. That boy is a very hesitant
- 45:10boy who goes through an arc. Again, I don't know Percy Jackson enough
- 45:15to say for me, it is a fifty to fifty between the two.
- 45:19If I had to come down on one side, I would say Miles Morales.
- 45:23And that is just from a game the game masters standpoint, because we
- 45:28have not had a c all right, my guilt will allow that God guilt
- 45:35is gonna My guilt is gonna expire after this round. Yeah, so we're
- 45:40going to go Miles Morales' going c Miles Morales. It is not it is
- 45:47Percy. Oh sorry, now we're even Aaron, Now we're sorry. Sounds
- 45:52like that's okay. No, no, no, we're even one up,
- 45:55one down. Yeah, this third option and they're just a just a wuck
- 46:00with us. Then still one more question. It's seeming there's still one more
- 46:04question for you guys. Okay, so my logic from the last round stands
- 46:07it either has to be seen or is definitely not see. Oh so you've
- 46:12narrowed it down from three to arrowed it down. Just call it now,
- 46:15don't even let the quote. Just call it now. No, I do
- 46:17want to hear the quote. Harry's your final quote? What were we we
- 46:22were on? Like Harry Percy, Harry Percy, something like that. Do
- 46:27you want to do you actually know your sequence? Because I said it for
- 46:29the other team. No, I just wanted to say, Harry Percy.
- 46:31Yeah, okay, here's your quotes. Wow, I wonder what it would
- 46:37be like to have a difficult life? Is that Percy, Harry or Ellie
- 46:45Williams? Who's that? Oh? Is her last name? Williams? Okay,
- 46:52I mean none of them had easy lives, right, like Harry?
- 46:54Like what being sarcastic? I think this has got to be sarcasm, Like
- 47:01I don't know if he's very sarcastic. I do think of Percy as sarcastic.
- 47:05Ellie's definitely Ellie's definitely sarcastic. I do think I've picked upon the sarcasm.
- 47:09That's good, So that that puts our fifty to fifty pre choice down
- 47:16to fifty to fifty. Now, yes, with a compliment, Oh wow,
- 47:21you did make it on yourself. I don't even need to make games
- 47:27anywhore incredible strategy. I can just throw woods into a room and everyone will
- 47:30get themselves in a pickle. I do think of I think, hmmmm,
- 47:40my gut is saying Percy, it's that oracle maybe speaking, Yeah, speaking
- 47:46is your Does your gut feel confident? Because my thought was leaning towards Ellie,
- 47:51but it's not at all confident. So if you're slightly confident, I'll
- 47:54go with you. I'm not back where we started three minutes ago. Okay,
- 48:05I'm gonna it'll either be a point or the shame will be on my
- 48:09house. I'm gonna say Percy, you're gonna say Percy, You're wrong.
- 48:15It's not it's Harry. It's Harry. Yes. I remember this moment because
- 48:21it's one of the sassiest things he does is he just goes, wow,
- 48:25I want to what it be like to have a difficult life, you know,
- 48:28just like completely like throws it at her. I can't remember who it
- 48:31was. It's it's when he's told that in book five, when like Malfoy
- 48:36is now a prefect, he might make your life difficult. Oh, I
- 48:38wonder what it'd be like life to be difficult. I was just talking about
- 48:43his own life instead of mocking someone else. Yes, yes, we debated
- 48:49for like solid minutes over the too wrong answer. Don't it down god?
- 48:58Okay, that's the end of round one. So let's ask the book smart
- 49:01Annabeth to calculate the latest scores. I hope she's number smart too. They
- 49:06always say book smart, don't they? Books have numbers? Sometimes they sometimes
- 49:13they sometimes do say every page has one of the bottom I was just about
- 49:15to say in the bottom right. Okay, okay, you got me on
- 49:19that one, dead bet, Echo, you're on one point. The Delphic
- 49:22Oracles, you were on two points. Okay, but our one point was
- 49:25a great point. Sure, that's what you gotta tell yourself. Hope next
- 49:30is round two. But before that, here are some commercials for olives,
- 49:35wine and something called ambrosia, ambrosia nectar of the gods. After this,
- 49:44not to be that guy, but I thought ambrosia was food of the gods
- 49:46and nectar was the drink of the gods. Ah, that's probably correct.
- 49:52See this is why I don't play the games. That's great. Round two
- 50:06is called flash fiction. It's the game where our teams must compose original pieces
- 50:09of fan fiction, this time about the gods of the Greek pantheon. Although
- 50:15to make things just a little bit more difficult, they must compose the fan
- 50:19fiction one word at a time, back and forth between teammates. They'll have
- 50:23some direction, though, I will give a short prompt that will reveal the
- 50:28characters that are involved, and then the teammates here in the studio will roll
- 50:32the dice of destiny, and if that team's thick matches the mood and tone
- 50:39of what's on the dice, they'll score on maximum points. And teams will
- 50:44also score points for law accuracy and for making me laugh. I'm a simple
- 50:47guy. Uh. Just for context, Audre, do you want to read
- 50:51the six words that are on the dice of destiny this time? Well,
- 50:54the one facing me now is horny, horny, tipsy, romantic, romantic,
- 51:02heroic. I don't why I'm repeating. It's waste of time. You're
- 51:07just the chorus the Greek summarize the things that have been said? Verse,
- 51:15tragic? What have I not said? Romantic? One of them? Did
- 51:22you say one of them was verse? One of them is? Verse?
- 51:27For that one, if you can make it rhyme in any way, or
- 51:29at least feel like Greek poetry, points for that one, really turning up
- 51:37on the game. So you're all right hoping as you started to read them
- 51:40they would all just be horny. I could do that. It's Greek mythology,
- 51:45it's all. So we will begin with a deadbeat echo. You were
- 51:52up first. We will follow on from this this sentence orpheous glanced at you,
- 51:58ridicy, and but Jason, what theme is your fit going to be?
- 52:02Give a little give a little drop on the floor there. Yeah,
- 52:07God, damn it, it's a verse. It's it's us. Okay.
- 52:13Now, Aaron is good at rhyming on the fly. I am frozen by
- 52:16it. But we'll try our best. All right. That's good because rhyming
- 52:21every other word would be great. Yeah, that's true. That's true,
- 52:24that's true. That would be a verse. So, Jason, if you
- 52:28want to kick things off. After I read this sentence, Orpheus glanced at
- 52:30Youridicy and gazed longingly at her little break comma sorry, ok yeah, yeah,
- 52:40she said, uh, what was the sorry? What was the last
- 52:45word that you said when we did the comma love her? Yeah? Oh
- 52:49it's her cool. Sh got a rhyme with her, sick. Jason's very
- 52:52bad at this. That's so hard. Leave it today, leave it to
- 52:57me. Sorry, what was the last word? She said? Okay?
- 52:59She said, Sun, do you think I'm looking fly in skirt? That's
- 53:19that's okay, that's skirt to rhyme with her? Yeah, I did.
- 53:22I did a gang, all right, Orpheus said of her, coma okay,
- 53:37uh, I do find you hot? There we go, all right,
- 53:46well let's here. Here is your here's your flash fiction of Greek mythology.
- 53:55Obvious glanced at you Ridicy and gazed longingly at her. She said,
- 54:00Sup, do you think I'm looking fly in my skirt? Orpheus said of
- 54:06her, I do find you hotur and skirt did did kind kind of rhyme?
- 54:15You did roll the hardest prompt on the dice. I loved it.
- 54:21I don't know why. Aaron's got his head and oh it's sad. There
- 54:27were like so I tried to like lobb you opportunities to just pass it back
- 54:31to me, and then I killed we killed it. Here's the thing they
- 54:43did. Used to wear skirt like things back then. So you'll get points
- 54:45for accuracy. And you did make me laugh, so I'm going to give
- 54:47you two points. Then he says it's out a five five. Yeah,
- 54:54but you rolled the hardest prompt. That's the look of the dice. That's
- 54:57the way it goes. All right, we are going to move on over
- 55:00to the Delphic Oracles, and your first prompt is Zeus Cold to Ganny Mead
- 55:07and and then Audra's gonna roll the dice. Heroic got it. So Audrey,
- 55:15if you want to pick up from Zeus Cold to Ganny Mead and bade
- 55:22her come hither. War War. There's quotes. Okay, we're starting sitting
- 55:34quotations War. I love it, I don't I hate it? Wait,
- 55:37where's the quotes? The quotes are before war before open quotation. War is
- 55:45upon olympus exclamation point, nice close quotes or no, not yet, okay,
- 55:53fetch my lightning bolt. Close quotations us. All right, you go
- 56:04one more sentence. Ganymede grabbed the sack broically. That's certainly a way of
- 56:20scoring some points. Here is your flash fiction. Zeus called to Ganymede and
- 56:25bade her come hither. War is upon Olympus. Fetch my lightning bolt.
- 56:31Ganymade grabbed the sack heroically, And so a couple definitely definitely started to get
- 56:42a little bit horney, especially as I think ganny Meade is Zeus's gay lover.
- 56:46Is that whoa, Yes, the only one of his lovers he ever
- 56:52made immortal so that they could be on Olympus with him forever. Wow,
- 56:58I'm sort of any nickname. What's going to say is lightning bolt. Well,
- 57:05with that caveat is now with the interpretation of what the author is saying.
- 57:08I was going to say, like I was going to take points off
- 57:12for her for lack of accuracy, and I thought I was going to bring
- 57:14them back. When you said grab the sack, I thought I thought we
- 57:17were going to come back around there. But no, I mean it was
- 57:21look, it was a it was a little bit more coherent and order played
- 57:23a very clever card there saying heroically. So I'm going to give you three
- 57:28points for that one. Nice, Okay, Jason, we've learned we just
- 57:31need to say the word that's on the die got it verse? All right?
- 57:38Now? Rhyme with verse worse? Oh, that's better either. There's
- 57:46going to be one more chance to compose some flash fiction for each team,
- 57:51Jason, if you want to take the dice there, I will read your
- 57:52prompt if it's one of the two prompts we've had already, re roll it,
- 57:57and your prompt is aphrodite acknowledge, aes and nice. Oh is it
- 58:06what I think it is? It's not optimal, but it is romantic romantic
- 58:13okaymantic some classic fan fiction stuff, horny, but not quite there yet.
- 58:19Maybe we can finish strong. So you have aphrodite acknowledged aries and and Aaron.
- 58:25If you want to follow on from that, Nope, first, first
- 58:30guest, best guess? Uh fingered? Oh God, is it aphrodite?
- 58:37Is the subject aphrodity acknowledged aries and fingered and fingered towards is Oh? No,
- 58:50Helm, Yeah, that's what he calls it. Open quotes, yes,
- 58:59darling, Oh that's not my word. Darling, what a great helm
- 59:08you have? Oh the words, see you've got you've got darling. Yea
- 59:16of the quotation I love you dressed oh like a I don't want to the
- 59:29first thing that comes to the head. Okay fine small warrior? Okay?
- 59:44Yeah's are we saying? That's the end of the quotations one most got one
- 59:49more sentence? Does does every say anything back? Yeah? Uh? Aries
- 1:00:00replied, do you mean my stop? Stop? You stop? Finish?
- 1:00:19Do you mean my heart? Oh? Brought it back all right, so
- 1:00:31easily, but managed to stay within the realms of romantic. Your latest piece
- 1:00:37of ancient Greek flash fiction reads like this aphrodite, acknowledged Aries and fingered towards
- 1:00:43his helm. Darling, I love you dressed like a small warrior, Aries
- 1:00:47replied, do you mean my heart? It's I love it is nice.
- 1:00:59We killed it story. Yeah. I think if you'd have taken it too
- 1:01:02horny at the end there, I might have docked points. But you kept
- 1:01:06it romantic, just like all all couples say to each other. I love
- 1:01:09when you dressed like a small warrior, but I genuine look, genuinely it
- 1:01:15was touching, and you did a good job going back there. It's I
- 1:01:25think it's a very clippables a reaction. It's just like, oh, wonderful
- 1:01:35stuff. Okay, well we must roll the dice of destiny one more time.
- 1:01:40Order if you reroll until you get a new a new topic, and
- 1:01:44you're prompt the delphic oracles, is Poseidon approached Medusa and or was just re
- 1:01:52rolling the same prompt? Oh tragic, Oh tragic. That's like the perfect
- 1:02:00thing that you could have pulled the great great tragedy. I rolled romantic three
- 1:02:05times. That would have been That would have been nice too. But this
- 1:02:07is honestly better considering the context of the myth. All right, so Ben,
- 1:02:13are you ready to take this one away? Poseidon approached Medusa and unsheathed
- 1:02:21straight for the jugular butter knife. All right, I'll take it. Open
- 1:02:35quotes if you won't eat this, but what do you even gonna know?
- 1:02:54As'll kill your cat? Is that close quotation? Close quotation marks Yep,
- 1:03:10Medusa gobbled the peanut butter. That is definitely not one word. If you
- 1:03:25say it right, it is if you say it with a mouthful of peanut
- 1:03:30butter, it is one word. He's stolen this last sentence Meduica gobbled the
- 1:03:37peanut butter. Oh god, oh peanut butter. Peanut butter tears no streaming
- 1:03:46down her face? Her? Sorry, that's definitely sad. Sad. One
- 1:03:59last word her sad uh? What said? Tea is streaming down her sad
- 1:04:05and we got one last word? Yeah, her sad uh? Don't lead
- 1:04:12the witness. Sorry, what did you say? Ben? Visage? Visage?
- 1:04:17Okay, just a word I was hoping for. I was like,
- 1:04:24I was like, this is a chance he could say face or I'd probably
- 1:04:28say visage. I was singing snakes. Yeah, we can tell from what.
- 1:04:34Okay, the tragedy is she's allergic to peanuts, by the way,
- 1:04:39but I'm afraid that wasn't in the in the the flash fiction books. Okay,
- 1:04:45yeah, everyone knows snakes can't handle peanut butter. Yeah, you know,
- 1:04:48I don't know enough about snakes to say whether that's not true. Here
- 1:04:53is your piece of flash fiction. Poseidon approached Medusa and unsheathed his butter knife.
- 1:05:00If you won't eat this peanut butter, I'll kill your cat. Medusa
- 1:05:05gobbled the peanut butter. Tea is streaming down a sad visage. God,
- 1:05:12Look, there was some very liberal use of what constitutes a word. Then
- 1:05:15from Ben So, I feel like I definitely have to mark you down for
- 1:05:21that, but I can't deny there was a tragic image to end things with.
- 1:05:27So I'm gonna be you three points for that one. Thank you.
- 1:05:30I would think that would hit home for you too, Matt, like just
- 1:05:31being forced. But's a nightmare for you. Yeah, that's true. We're
- 1:05:35breaking all kinds of rules using multiple words. I see what's happening here.
- 1:05:41It's favoritism for your wife's team, and look, favoritismism big and Greek mythology.
- 1:05:45So if it's so good, well done, and carry he's nothing if
- 1:05:55not on theme. All right, that's the end of the round. Let's
- 1:05:58ask the wise God to calculate the latest scores. I really hope she answers,
- 1:06:03unlike the last god I believed in. WHOA. Look, considering the
- 1:06:14accusations of favoritism, the scores are pretty close. We have a deadbeat Echo
- 1:06:17on seven points and the Delphi Horacles on eight points. Okay, ooh,
- 1:06:23Round three next, But first, some more pesky commercials. We prefer if
- 1:06:28you let them play, but if you want to cause players, Kronos and
- 1:06:30hit that thirty second skip button. I won't blame you back soon. Round
- 1:06:41three is called the pop Culture Pantheon. L Rick Rydon and his friend Percy
- 1:06:45aren't the only creatives to use Greek mythology in their work. In fact,
- 1:06:49it may surprise you to learn that Greek mythology is all over pop culture,
- 1:06:56as though it's the bedrock for mainstream storytelling or something. So in I think
- 1:07:02we had the right attitude there. Yeah, the joke conved. So in
- 1:07:05a rare Round three test of your broader pop culture knowledge, I have in
- 1:07:11front of me a board of twelve clues to something from modern culture that takes
- 1:07:15its influence or inspiration from Greek mythology. Those clues are broken up into three
- 1:07:21difficulty categories for questions in each. You've got the easier clues. These are
- 1:07:27known as a persy piece of piss, and they're worth one points. You've
- 1:07:31got the medium clues. These are known as an Anabeth average, which she's
- 1:07:35not but it's alliteration, yeah, and are worth two points. Or you
- 1:07:40could go for the difficult Grover gamble and earn three points for a correct answer.
- 1:07:46So we're going to begin with a deadbeat echo which clue would you like?
- 1:07:49Would you like a persy piece of piss, an Anabeth average or a
- 1:07:54Grover gamble? You want to warm into this erin you want to like?
- 1:07:57I mean, on the one hand, we're behind uh, and on the
- 1:08:00other I love really hard puzzles, So okay, I would go three.
- 1:08:06But I don't blame you at all if you think we should start off with
- 1:08:10something a little lighter. Ah. Now we're in it for the glory,
- 1:08:14am I right? Let's do it like the Titans. We are, we
- 1:08:16got We're going to do this, sir? Yeah? Oh yes, reference
- 1:08:20reference reference. Okay, here is your first clue. It is to something
- 1:08:27that is in modern culture that is inspired by Greek mythology. Many people start
- 1:08:32their day with this. James Caleb Jackson would insist, what do people start
- 1:08:39their day with? It's chief, it's coffered by I don't know who that
- 1:08:44is, Yeah, James kills. Jason does not ring any bells at all,
- 1:08:49putting their pants on, taking their underwear off, putting the pants on,
- 1:08:55then taking their underwear off. Is this the magic? So culture?
- 1:09:00You don't necessarily mean like a TV show or a book? Read? Yeah,
- 1:09:04I and modern culture is the is the wood I've used so well,
- 1:09:08so it could be anything in modern it could be could be anything. Yeah,
- 1:09:12you bastards, this was a lot the three points. That was a
- 1:09:18lot harder than I was expecting. Dude, I'm like clocked out. I
- 1:09:21got nothing. Yeah. If I knew who that guy was, I might
- 1:09:25be able to hazard a guess. But as it is, many people start
- 1:09:28their day with this. Is there any like Greek breakfast eatery or something like
- 1:09:31that? Because I usually people usually start their day off of coffee or bagels
- 1:09:35or something like that, Greek food? Is there anything like fast food that's
- 1:09:41based off of a Greek thing? Wait? Is Starbucks fucking Greek? Wait?
- 1:09:45It's a siren? But I like, that's my best guess. Is
- 1:09:47fucking a cup of Starbucks. That's the best fucking guess I have. Uh,
- 1:09:51I can't remember where the name Starbucks comes from. It's a it's a
- 1:09:56Greek thing. I do we used to work at Starbucks. I think it's
- 1:10:01a great guess. Actually, okay, all right, Starbucks. It's no
- 1:10:05Starbucks, but that is a good guess. And to be honest, if
- 1:10:09I didn't have James Caleb Jackson and that I'd probably have to give you it
- 1:10:12because many people do start that day with it. It's the answer is cerealal
- 1:10:17it comes from the god of grain series or series cereal is Did you know
- 1:10:25that? Why are you laughing like that? No, it's just because serious
- 1:10:29Aaron's muse. Oh yeah, okay, there's a lot of there's a lot
- 1:10:36of names that sounds. I was thinking. I was trying to think of
- 1:10:41like a breakfast cereal like mascot, like Lucky from Lucky Charms. That was
- 1:10:45Greek, but I could. I was like, I don't think of any
- 1:10:47of them, but it was I start every day with a little Caesar's pizza.
- 1:10:51But that's Rome, guys. All right, Still so many clues left
- 1:11:00on the board the Delphic Oracles. Maybe let's go Annabeth average Yeah, yeah,
- 1:11:05I'm okay with that. This company appears to do jewelry and music streaming.
- 1:11:12I guess I'll have to open the package and find out which this one
- 1:11:15is. Pandora. I know this, Oh yes, definitely Diamonds aimed music.
- 1:11:20Ye, it is indeed Pandora. Yeah, it is absolutely Pandora.
- 1:11:25There you go. It's two points to the Delphic Oracles. There back on
- 1:11:29over to a deadbeat echo. We gotta do Annabeth, average man? Do
- 1:11:32we there are two points up on us. You want to do another Grover
- 1:11:36gamble? Okay, I feel like I feel like I've gotten new choice now
- 1:11:43and I got to try and redeem myself after that last time. I like
- 1:11:45me and Aaron as a duo, by the way, because I seem to
- 1:11:47just be go with the flow and in a sea tragedy, I that's where
- 1:11:53I belong. It's Greek mythology. Come on, there we go. So
- 1:11:57you you're flying too close to the sun. Just don't go. I respect
- 1:12:01it so much. Here is your Grover gamble clue. This video game series
- 1:12:08takes place in angel Land, and the fact it took twenty one years for
- 1:12:12the third game to be released is something of a pitfalls. Yeah, kidicusus,
- 1:12:18nice good stuff it is, thank you super mushros. Oh there you
- 1:12:24go, there you go. It is a bit more popularity for kids.
- 1:12:27That's that's three points. I played the original way back in the day and
- 1:12:31never beat it. That it's hard. I beat it with every every Nintendo
- 1:12:42Entertainment System gamer's best friend nice good knowled Jaron all right, and Jason,
- 1:12:46you had it as well. I don't know, ye I knew, I
- 1:12:50knew you were talking about all right, back on over to the Delphic Oracles.
- 1:12:54Yes, I mean we got to get in on one of these grover
- 1:12:58gambles, don't Yeah, I know they there. We can't let them show
- 1:13:00us up. Okay, we're taking our third grove of gamble. Clue here
- 1:13:05it is. This film from the Red Curtain trilogy features a musician ahead of
- 1:13:13his time, but they did not can Can It's can? I don't no
- 1:13:18from the Red Curtain? What did you say? Yeah? This this film
- 1:13:23from the Red Curtain trilogy features a musician ahead of his time, but they
- 1:13:28did not can Can. It's can dance at the film festival. I mean
- 1:13:32we can go I can't remember if she's like the Muse of Dance, but
- 1:13:39we can go with the one Muse that I remember off the top of my
- 1:13:42head and just say Calliope. That feels like that could be a can film
- 1:13:47Festival movie, right, I have nothing so with oh Kalliope. It's not
- 1:14:00Calliope or Calliope. The answer is mulamb Bruge, which is based on the
- 1:14:04story of Orpheus. Oh wow, Wow, Wow. They didn't win at
- 1:14:11Can when they hoped to, and the film has lots of can Can happening
- 1:14:14in there. There's a lot of great clues. I'm sure someone screaming yeah
- 1:14:19r right now on their Phonemo fan out there. I was. I was
- 1:14:26trying to come up with it, like, what would be in a Red
- 1:14:28Curtain trilogy? Is it it like a Russian movie about a musician? I'm
- 1:14:31like, I legitimately didn't Communist musicals. I love him, listen, I
- 1:14:38I would understand of a Russian trilogy of movies was about artists on stage or
- 1:14:43whatever was called the Red Curtain, Oh for sure. Anyway, that was
- 1:14:46just my thought process having heard that question. Are you sure you want to
- 1:14:51do another Grovery gamble right now? We are? We are? But I
- 1:14:58knew that one cold, and I think that's the only reason why, like
- 1:15:00don't, Yeah, we got the ciders one. Let's do an anabev average
- 1:15:04or or Jason horns up, hon Yeah, yeah, sure, horns up.
- 1:15:15You know what they say, always always rest on your laurels, So
- 1:15:20that's what they always say. Let's do it all right? So the final
- 1:15:26Grover Gamble more immaculate than the Wooden Ride it replaced. This floorless roller coaster
- 1:15:32can be found in one of the oldest Commonwealth settlements. Ew I don't like
- 1:15:40this one at all. Is the Commonwealth like the Northeast. It's like,
- 1:15:47uh, British territory is Canada, Australia. I don't know exact like full
- 1:15:55makeup, but I will say within this context, it is the American Commonwealth.
- 1:16:00Oh okay, not not the British commedy. Well yeah, yeah,
- 1:16:05the colonies were in the were part of the Commonwealth at one Yeah, there's
- 1:16:10some states that still define themselves I think. Is so the kid. The
- 1:16:13word that's jumping out at me is immaculate. That feels like a deliberate hint
- 1:16:17at something in Greek mythology. What was immaculate? I'm just trying to think
- 1:16:23of any roller coaster as anything to do with Greece as well. Well,
- 1:16:27I'm pretty sure that this is going to be a ride that's literally named after
- 1:16:30a Greek yeah kiro or goddess or something, but it's it's it was that
- 1:16:36very deliberate word choice of immaculate, because why would why why would you use
- 1:16:43that to describe something that replaced a wooden roller coaster so there has to be
- 1:16:48a link between that and the actual name, the actual thing. But I'm
- 1:16:55struggling to come up with something in Greek that's immaculate, like in Catholics.
- 1:17:00I'm sure maculate conception, all that nonsense, nonsense, sorry Catholics. I'm
- 1:17:06just trying to think of any Greek god's names in relation to a roller coaster
- 1:17:10as well. Apollo, I could see Poseidon for a water ride, but
- 1:17:14overside, but Sidon would be an absence, especially if it was near to
- 1:17:19the water. Yeah, and then like a drop to Haites is something like
- 1:17:23I can think of as well. But I don't know if anythings are real,
- 1:17:27and I can't think of any amusing parks in the Commonwealth, specifically,
- 1:17:30Florida's not no Florida, Let's the world. Let's go with Apollo. Okay
- 1:17:41with Apollo? Is some is a name I would use to name a roller
- 1:17:44coaster. Yeah, it's like Apollo's sunrise or something. Yeah, that sounds
- 1:17:47good enough. It's it's not that, but it's a good guess. Yeah,
- 1:17:50to be fat it's Hydra the Revenge. Oh yeah, no, no,
- 1:17:56not even close. Immaculate was as a play on floorless, but it's
- 1:18:00actually flawless, as in like a flawless roller coaster, and it was just
- 1:18:04it was replacing something pretty and painted. Uh, because there used to be
- 1:18:11a wooden ride there called Hercules the ride. I know, I need to
- 1:18:14stop looking into things that Max said, play the deep word playing. I
- 1:18:21chose Immacula because it matches flawless. There is deep points that Aaron. It's
- 1:18:30based on Mets floorless floorless. Yes, I absolutely could not tell because of
- 1:18:41your absence. I picked it up. I think I've been friends with Matt
- 1:18:45long enough that I did pick it up. I did that. Look,
- 1:18:48it's the girl of a gamble. There's going to be trickery. I'm aware
- 1:18:53that was next to impossible. There's there's a floorless roller coaster near me called
- 1:18:57Medusa, but it's definitely not in the Commonwealth. So oh, there you
- 1:19:00go, there you go. Yes, it's a floorless it's one of those
- 1:19:04ones that straps. Yeah. Yeah, you sit and there's a thing that
- 1:19:09you wear and you just sit in your legs just dangle. Oh it means
- 1:19:15there's no floor Yeah, all right, there is fear delphic horracles. We
- 1:19:21still have seven questions left on the board, split between Percy Piece of Piss,
- 1:19:26which no one's taken yet, and Annabeth Average, let's have some more
- 1:19:29rapid fire questions and answers. Name, let's go in rapid fire, Percy
- 1:19:31piece of piss? Are you down for it? Uh? We're going rapid
- 1:19:35fire. Yeah, we're gonna go. Yeah, sure, why not?
- 1:19:40Okay, lovely and rapid from you both. There, it's not how we
- 1:19:45roll, Matt. Here is your clue. This athletic apparel company is so
- 1:19:53horny they're always telling everyone to just do it. Nike. Next question,
- 1:19:57it absolutely is Nike. There's a point over to a deadbe echo. It's
- 1:20:00your choice of the board. Give us, Anabeth Average, Yeah, backing
- 1:20:05off. Now there's no war and there's no wars. Yeah, don't let
- 1:20:15this guy on Sesame Street take all the grovers. Listen. I did I
- 1:20:20love the hard puzzles? Okay, I just can't. Oh, I'll make
- 1:20:25some more in the off time. But now here is your Annabeth Average.
- 1:20:29This video game series sees the gods as soft, not hard, and Percy
- 1:20:34Jackson isn't the only series that will have to recast the late Great Lance Riddick.
- 1:20:39So Lance Reddick has been in Horizon Zero don oh, and those have
- 1:20:43Medusa and Hades. No, it's a Horizondon. My bad. I was
- 1:20:45gonna say Destiny, but Destiny is not soft and does not have as many
- 1:20:49as many Greek references the gods soft in Horizon. There, there's there.
- 1:20:56Ai is what they are? Oh software ah yeah, yeah, fair enough?
- 1:21:01Is that good enough wood play for your Oh that's excellent, sir,
- 1:21:03that is excellent. That is tol and that is two points for your team.
- 1:21:08Welcome, nicely done. Jeez, thank you. All right, Delphi
- 1:21:12Carcles, You're up next? Are there any more Anna? Annabeth's just yeah,
- 1:21:16there are two more Annabeth averages. Yeah, I went. I went
- 1:21:19for the Percy one because I was like, he was like, let's let's
- 1:21:23go, let's go quick, and so I went for the easy one.
- 1:21:25But there's points on the board. Yeah, absolutely sorry. Yep, Annabeth,
- 1:21:30you were right to hesitate in acknowledging the I'm glad we spent more time
- 1:21:35on it. Okay, here is your question. This sci fi TV series
- 1:21:40has had a couple of runs, but I've seen none of it, so
- 1:21:43I don't know if they ever found the thirteenth colony Stargate. Possibly. I
- 1:21:48know there's definitely. They definitely have like a Nubis and stuff in that,
- 1:21:50and I don't know if they like, Yeah, I didn't watch it all
- 1:21:53the way through, so it wouldn't surprise me if Yeah, Stargate Atlantis.
- 1:21:56Probably Atlantis because Atlantis is Greek. Miss it's pretty Greek, so and a
- 1:22:00couple of runs it definitely had, you know, had the original one and
- 1:22:03then Atlantis, and I think there was a third one that I didn't watch.
- 1:22:06So let's go for it, going with Stargate Atlantis specifically. You said
- 1:22:14you said series is had a couple of runs, so I just it would
- 1:22:16just be Stargate, right like any of them would account because of the thirteenth
- 1:22:20Colony thing being a key thing of this franchise. I'm not going to give
- 1:22:23you it, but I did just quickly google. The only thing is like
- 1:22:27a fan fiction crossover between Stargate and this. The answer is Battlestar galacticall tons
- 1:22:35of Greek mythology references throughout, and their their whole goal is that they're looking
- 1:22:40for Earth, which is the thirteenth Colony. Oh dang, so sorry,
- 1:22:45no points there. Give us the last Annabeth. You want the last Annabeth?
- 1:22:49Average here it is this American football team has appeared in just one Super
- 1:22:56Bowl, But at least it sounds cheap to watch them, at least from
- 1:23:00this Britt's perspective. What's cheap in because we're not sports fans. I'm just
- 1:23:08going to say that for the listeners. The Tennessee Titans are definitely inspired by
- 1:23:14Greek mythology. But I don't know why he would say they sound cheap to
- 1:23:16play. Did you say they only showed up in one Super Bowl? Is
- 1:23:21just one super Bowl? Okay? What are the other sports teams? Oh?
- 1:23:29Boy, we're going to be here, all of them. You list
- 1:23:32all of them, Tennessee Titans. They're the ones that came first to mind.
- 1:23:36I don't think it's right, though, is the problem. It's not
- 1:23:40going to be it's not gonna be the Buffalo Bills. It's not going to
- 1:23:43be the New York Jets. It's not gonna be the Okay, it's not
- 1:23:46going to be the Detroit Lions. It's definitely not gonna be the Cleveland Browns,
- 1:23:54Seattle Seahawks. You don't think the Chiefs Dallas reference Denver bron Goes Chiefs
- 1:24:00is more of a reference to Native American culture. I thought I could be
- 1:24:04wrong. I mean, what is a cowboy if not they got them horns
- 1:24:12on those on the cowboy hats. What is a chief if not? I
- 1:24:18don't know. If we want to finish it, can I can I just
- 1:24:24theorize I don't think a seahawk is like a no Titan. Titan is a
- 1:24:29blatant Greek mythology reference. And not to mention Matt and I hate to say
- 1:24:34this because I feel like it's a cheap joke that he could have made.
- 1:24:40And I don't want to say he would make a cheap joke, but it
- 1:24:43could be that he meant they were tend to see Tennessee tend to see it's
- 1:24:47cheap. That's actually solidified in my mind. Because you guys have to go
- 1:24:50back and forth. Let's just go. Let's just saying that, yes,
- 1:25:00yes, it is. I thought it might be easy, if easier for
- 1:25:02a football fans, so I'd throw in an extra little twist on there to
- 1:25:05make it an Anabeth average. But yeah, that is two points. That
- 1:25:09is the Tennessee Titans. Absolutely, yes, all right, what is a
- 1:25:13raider if not barbaria? You know, just just from a forty nine er?
- 1:25:19If not a Greek if forty nine ers, it's for forty nine BC,
- 1:25:27right, yeah, yeah, back on over to the horror course you've
- 1:25:34they're all persy piece of pisses. So I guess that's what you get.
- 1:25:38This video game series asks you to unleash your rage and more recently, your
- 1:25:43paternal instincts. Got war. Yeah, it is indeed God of War.
- 1:25:47There is your points, all right, Another persy piece of piss for a
- 1:25:53deadbeat echo. This nineties TV series is a spin off with a strong lead
- 1:25:59and a cult following, which is surprising given how lowless this series is.
- 1:26:04I was not cognisant during the nineties. I just want the listeners to know
- 1:26:11that this nineties I don't think I suppose was a spin off and oh fucking
- 1:26:18Hercules off of Xena the Warrior Princess. Oh no, price, Xena was
- 1:26:24the spin off of Hercules all the way around. Okay, so it's Xena
- 1:26:27say it again? Oh no, no, never mind, he doesn't have
- 1:26:30to. It is Zena, he said, lawless, Lucy lawss it's Zena.
- 1:26:32It is Zena. It is Zena. Good stuff. There you go.
- 1:26:35I was cognizant during the next You're all idiots. I was gus,
- 1:26:42I was already in kindergarten and I was only four years old. Guys,
- 1:26:45you're brilliant. I mean, the little boy's gonna pick up on anything.
- 1:26:49Zena's not not too low on the list. Mm hmm. That's true.
- 1:26:55That's true. Although you can tell you weren't cognizant in the nineties because the
- 1:26:58Female Lets series wouldn't have come first, right, Okay, that means one
- 1:27:04last clue left for the Delphi Oracles here it is. This genre defining novel
- 1:27:10came to life from a contest organized by Lord Byron. Just make sure you
- 1:27:15remember who is man and who is monster? I mean, I'd like to
- 1:27:18say Frankenstein Frankenstein Mythology, but it's definitely like a I don't know if it
- 1:27:27was a contest, but like Lord Byron was involved and Mary Shelley wrote it,
- 1:27:30and it's definitely man and monster confusion. Like it's got to be Frankenstein.
- 1:27:33I don't get the connection, but I'm down to go with it.
- 1:27:36Prometheus bringing humans to life from dirt? Are going with Frankenstein? We can
- 1:27:42go with Frankenstein. Yeah it is Frankenstein. Yeah. Yeah. The full
- 1:27:48title of the novel is Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus, and it was meant
- 1:27:51to explore that Greek. So yeah, good, nice, Wow, there
- 1:27:56is a points you learned something new, and that is the end of round
- 1:28:00three. Let's just give theseus a quick call to see if he has the
- 1:28:03latest scores. Yeah, what is you're actually calling someone? Uh huh?
- 1:28:11All right, mate? How you doing a what? Well? If he's
- 1:28:15a minor, you probably shouldn't be Oh a minor, all I see?
- 1:28:18Yeah, No, the signal is pretty the signal is pretty bad. You
- 1:28:23must be in like a labyrinth or something. Yeah, no worries, mate,
- 1:28:26just some quick masses. I'll call you back later. It's fine,
- 1:28:28it's fine. Bye bye bye bye bye, love you bye. That was
- 1:28:30great acting. I love that. Oh thanks, he's busy. I'll do
- 1:28:35the touch. The scores is gonna fuck you over. Don't tell me how
- 1:28:46the story ends. The Delphic Horracles are on thirteen points. A deadbeat Echo
- 1:28:55have taken the lead. They're on fifteen points. The Grover Gambles, Grover
- 1:29:00Gambles, did it lovely stuff? Okay, anyone could still win. But
- 1:29:04before we get to the quick fire around, let's talk prizes. This episode
- 1:29:09star Prize. It's the concept of myth making. Systems of power are only
- 1:29:14as strong as the number of people who believe in them. So if you
- 1:29:17want to change the world, start telling some myths of your own. And
- 1:29:21whatever story you choose to tell, remember to throw in a few pegasus.
- 1:29:25Everyone loves a pegasus. But our winning team will also receive the entire teachings
- 1:29:30of Socrates on audio book. But it's two hundred hours long and read by
- 1:29:35Jordan Peterson. I'm so so sorry, Oh God, I prefer to lose.
- 1:29:44Now's your chance. Up Next is our crucial quick fire around, But
- 1:29:49first we must play one final set of ads. Zeus demands it. He
- 1:29:54says if we don't, he'll give the world Pandora's Box two. And we
- 1:29:59all know that sequel set and Pandora are usually worse. So now the answers.
- 1:30:10Our final quick fire around will test your broader pop culture knowledge, and
- 1:30:15it's called the God Squad. Greek mythology is filled with gods, but this
- 1:30:21time I'll be testing our player's knowledge of fictional gods. Calm down, atheists,
- 1:30:27all right, I know what you're thinking. Aren't all God's fictional?
- 1:30:31You're hilarious. Get it? In this game, I will give our players
- 1:30:39clues to a deity slash god from pop culture history. Those clues will be
- 1:30:44given in the style of an earnest why a protagonist asking their god for help.
- 1:30:48And of course there's a classic gate leapers twist. You need to say
- 1:30:51I worship THEE after your answer. So the answer to the question followed by
- 1:30:57I worship THEE or I can't give you the point? Well I could,
- 1:31:00but I won't. It's it's quick fire, so buzz in by yelling out
- 1:31:04your team name. Let's practice that now, all right? So Oracles,
- 1:31:10I heard Oracles versus That is what we've got here, Horror. We're better.
- 1:31:15No one's shouting. It's nice. Okay. I'll give you an example,
- 1:31:20just to give you an idea. Dear God, me and my cousins
- 1:31:25are in a lot of trouble right now. There's a witch and a wardrobe,
- 1:31:28and well calls yes, Ordre Aslan, I worship thee. It is
- 1:31:35Aslan, the lion god, and you do worship him. That would have
- 1:31:40been a point were a real question. Do we get it? Are we
- 1:31:43understanding? Yes? It's a tough list. I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 1:31:47I got my right answer out of the way, Okay, I'll start
- 1:31:53the timer. Here we go. Dear God, O, lord of the
- 1:31:57North Wind and King of the Platinum Dragons as ruler of good dragon kind.
- 1:32:03Yes, Oldra Bahamed, I worship thee. It is Bahama from dungeons and
- 1:32:09dragons. Yeah, the dragon God. I got it. Like a second
- 1:32:12later, Dear God, I need your ominous octopus embrace you might usually worshiped.
- 1:32:19Yes, ben Cthulhu, I worship thee. It is Cthulhu. Yes
- 1:32:25for me and buzz in sooner, wake up Jason, Jesus Christ. Dear
- 1:32:31Gods, I need all seven of you right now. And believe it or
- 1:32:36not, this is the first time I've asked for seven d's at once,
- 1:32:41but I do appreciate you were created by a gay man horacles. Yes,
- 1:32:45Oldra, I don't actually know what they're called as a group. I know
- 1:32:51what they're from. I'm look, this is God, so I'm gonna need
- 1:32:58I'm gonna need God's names for this one. I think I think it's you've
- 1:33:01got it to shift to name all seven gods or the group the group,
- 1:33:05or if you name some gods from it then oh, destiny, desire,
- 1:33:11death, dream, Oh, fuck me God, all I can think of
- 1:33:18is the eternals, and I know it's not the eternals. I worship THEE.
- 1:33:23You said enough of them, you said a lot of individual gods there
- 1:33:25in. Then I'm gonna give you the point. It is the endless from
- 1:33:28Sandman there, that's the endless for everything like that. Okay, next one
- 1:33:33on, Jason, I really do enjoy it, dear God. Wow to
- 1:33:40you powerful green skins. I know one of you is brutal but cunning and
- 1:33:44the other is cunning but brutal, but either of you will do waw echo.
- 1:33:53Yes, Aaron, I'm gonna say this is disturbed. I worship THEE
- 1:33:58because they go wow. That's a good answer. It's a good answer.
- 1:34:06Yes, forgot nothing, dude. I was thinking Warrior too, and that's
- 1:34:12so do you know what my my, my wa sounds a bit too much
- 1:34:15like Warrior. It's not. It's not Warrior. Any any guests from Delphi
- 1:34:21Oracles or is this one to pass? I think it's gonna have to be
- 1:34:25a past. Yeah. This is Gork and Mark, the Orc gods of
- 1:34:30Warhammer forty thousand or forty k O forty k Okay, the Orc Gods.
- 1:34:36Yeah, I knew that Orcs in World the warcraft went art, so I
- 1:34:41was like, they don't say wah, but that that makes sense. It's
- 1:34:44a big Orc community thing. Yeah. The only thing I know for warhammer
- 1:34:49mm hmm maybe skulls for the Crown of or for the Throne of Skulls or
- 1:34:55something like that. Yeah, yeah, that sounds right. That sounds like
- 1:34:59it feels like work. Okay, here's your next clue. Dear God,
- 1:35:02you are more than just an heir to a great house, and you're so
- 1:35:06good at riding worm, so please help us. Yes, Jason, I
- 1:35:11don't fucking know his because he has like five names. But Shi Halla Halla,
- 1:35:16how you know what I'm trying to say. You know what I'm trying
- 1:35:20to say? Do you give Deep I worship Thee? Like that's another one
- 1:35:26of his names? That is that's one of his names, right, yeah,
- 1:35:29Deep and Shi Hall. So you're you're so close on two of them
- 1:35:34and you said I worshiped Thee. Yeah, this is this is Paul Trydes
- 1:35:38from Dene. Yeah, good stuff. That's the point. You know what
- 1:35:44you're doing? Yes, sir, we got this storm Papa's bringing you home.
- 1:35:49Dear God, Oh, supreme authority of the multiverse. I need the
- 1:35:55real you, not just the version that's Jack Kirby's meta pencil coming down from
- 1:35:59the panels. Oh, echo, fuck me, Yes, the one above
- 1:36:03all. I worship THEE. It is from Marvel, the One above all.
- 1:36:08Yeah, Dear God, it feels wrong to pray to you, but
- 1:36:13you predate existence itself and that's like totally rad and you'll win in the fight
- 1:36:18because our enemy only slays vampires. Echo, Yes, Aaron the first,
- 1:36:25I worship THEE. Yeah, yeah, the first or the first evil from
- 1:36:29Buffy. Absolutely, yes, yeah. I gotta lock back in. Dear
- 1:36:42God, you don't get involved that much, and most people in all of
- 1:36:46ear and Arda don't even know your name. I'm gonna keep reading Alluvatar,
- 1:37:00I worshiped the Yes. Oh it's sucking. Oh it's Lord of the Rings.
- 1:37:09That's one for the clip show. Dear God, please don't consume our
- 1:37:19planet for fuel. You existracles. I think that's just Jason. I think
- 1:37:25that's just Jason. Galactus. I worship THEE. It's not Galactus. I'm
- 1:37:30so sorry. I don't know. Ben. Do you want to take it.
- 1:37:34You read more of the clue before you buzz in. Yeah, go
- 1:37:38for it, because I was thinking you exist outside the matrix of leadership for
- 1:37:45a reason. Can I get a second or it is it's Ben's guest.
- 1:37:50First show. You show your dark god's strength and then I don't know I
- 1:37:57can drive you or whatever these toys do. I'm bored reading this clue.
- 1:38:00Oh oh fuck ship uh man, I worship theeicron. Jason. It is
- 1:38:15unicorn. I can't believe I'm gonna lose in the fucking Greek with Theology episode
- 1:38:26all thanks to a transformer's question. Because of a transformer question, I didn't
- 1:38:32even know. I didn't even know you could get a second kiss. It
- 1:38:38is when you fuck up your your your take back. Yeah, it's chaos,
- 1:38:44all right. Next next clue. Dear God, please provide your butter
- 1:38:48knife smooth voice over work to my Penguin documentary. You helped your carry and
- 1:38:53sties Jason Morgan Freeman. I worshiped thee yes Morgan Freeman in My die is
- 1:39:02the gold we were looking for that. Dear Gods, your status might be
- 1:39:06a scheme, but you've blazed a trail to get here and these people believe
- 1:39:12in you. I don't even care that you used loaded dice. Oh horricle
- 1:39:19yes, Uldre, Tulio and Miguel say it properly, might be mighty and
- 1:39:26powerful gods. I wish yes, yes, yes, my impowerful gods.
- 1:39:30What is that rotel Dorado? Oh? I first, Tulio and Miguel.
- 1:39:35Wow, in my brain, I thought you were talking about like scientology.
- 1:39:40I was like, what is the scientology? I think the thing that lives
- 1:39:43in the volcano? What is it like something? No, Ben, that's
- 1:39:47real. Okay, quick before the buzza, dear god, nepotism is kind
- 1:39:55of your thing. And incest, which is of course kind of nept yes
- 1:40:00aarons worship the It is Zeus, This is indeed Zeus, and that's the
- 1:40:05buzzer. Nepotism incest is the worst kind of nepotism a time. Literally,
- 1:40:14It's all I needed to hear was nepotism and incest, and I'm like,
- 1:40:16it's Zeus, It's Zeus. Who else could it be? Wow? That
- 1:40:20was a close one. Okay, whoa. Before we get to the final
- 1:40:26scores, I'd like to thank our players. You've all been heroes of this
- 1:40:30minor myth. Thank you for playing your part in the story. Aaron,
- 1:40:33your debut novel, Thane is available. Now, what's it about? Yes,
- 1:40:38why can our lessoners find it? It is? It is. It's
- 1:40:41actually very mythological in the fact that it's not mythological at all, but it
- 1:40:47does feature seven strangers trapped in a in a strange compound with a computer voice
- 1:40:51that tells them they need to perform tasks to leave, and if they fail
- 1:40:56to do that or break the rules, they get to strike. First two
- 1:40:58strikes are pain, the third strike is death, and there's naturally more going
- 1:41:02on than even they realize. So it's I think it's an exciting and good
- 1:41:06yarn and I'm excited to get this kickstarter off the ground for the audiobook because
- 1:41:12there's I'm a theater major, so I wrote it kind of like a stage
- 1:41:15play almost in that there's a lot of dialogue scenes. So I think when
- 1:41:19I get a full cast doing it, it's gonna be awesome. And I'm
- 1:41:21so excited, dude. It's gonna be so strong. The dialogue, especially
- 1:41:26in your book, is so strong and like very realistic and so of hearing.
- 1:41:30It will be amazing I'm stoked, dude, I cannot wait. Nice
- 1:41:35and of course your excellent podcast, because fuck you, that's why. Yes,
- 1:41:40what's all about? Where can people listen to it? It is a
- 1:41:43podcast, It's sorry. It is a panel show inspired podcast. It is
- 1:41:46one of the two greatest it is one of the two greatest panel show inspired
- 1:41:49podcasts in the universe. And it's a lot of fun. It's me Stevie
- 1:41:54and Augie and we're not so much with the themes, but we do play
- 1:41:58a lot of silly games and we have a lot of fun. And so
- 1:42:00it is. It is very similar to your show, except you are cooler.
- 1:42:08You're uh, you'll make it worse. Episode that you did recently was
- 1:42:11very funny. Oh god, we we love that new game. Make it
- 1:42:15worse. Just take something and make it worse a little bit at a time,
- 1:42:17but you have to keep escalating how much worse it gets as you go,
- 1:42:23and it becomes Can you get too ambitious right away? No? No,
- 1:42:27But it winds up, It winds up in just this just this beautiful
- 1:42:30millunge of ridiculousness, and I love it. Yeah, it's it's fantastic.
- 1:42:35Links to Thane and b fytw in the show notes of this very podcast.
- 1:42:40Thank you kindly. Ben. Where can our listeners get issues of Space Oddities
- 1:42:45and you want to sell our listeners on Space Oddities? Oh yeah, yes,
- 1:42:47you can go to Space auditiescomic dot com. It's basically a sci fi
- 1:42:53comedy adventure story about the cruise ship called the f Tosa where they kind of
- 1:42:58the Jorgem, Sanchez and Dirk pick up a like stowaway essentially that ends up
- 1:43:05getting them in a lot of trouble and leading to some fun hijinks. And
- 1:43:11I think John's been kicking ass drawing it. So uh, I think we're
- 1:43:15looking for an early summer, late spring kickstarter for issue three, so we're
- 1:43:21kind of back and moving. This is yes, Yes, so save your
- 1:43:27money leap Frogs, Yes, and Geek Exploration as well. Still drop in
- 1:43:32some new episodes occasionally. Yeah. I've got a new one on Tuesday that
- 1:43:36I think we recorded two weeks ago that I still haven't edited, so it's
- 1:43:41uh, yes, it will be coming out uh probably before this does.
- 1:43:45So this one. I'm editing this one overnight and releasing it tomorrow. So
- 1:43:49hot damn yeah, I'm going to die hot off the presses. Extra extra
