- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Real Talk with Mike D. Alright, welcome back
- 0:07Speaker 1: to Real Talk with Mike D. I am the one,
- 0:09Speaker 1: the only, and the original Mike D. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 0:14Speaker 1: today we're talking about something that I think every single
- 0:16Speaker 1: one of us has inside of us. Something that maybe
- 0:19Speaker 1: we've pushed aside. Something we're afraid to go after. Something
- 0:23Speaker 1: we told ourselves was impossible. And that is chasing your
- 0:27Speaker 1: dreams and achieving your goals. Now, I'm not talking about
- 0:31Speaker 1: some fairytale version of success. I'm talking about the real thing.
- 0:35Speaker 1: The struggle, the doubt, the fear. The days when you
- 0:39Speaker 1: don't feel motivated. The days when nobody believes in you.
- 0:44Speaker 1: The days when you're sitting there wondering, what am I
- 0:48Speaker 1: even doing? Because that's what chasing a dream really looks like.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It's not always exciting. It's not always glamorous. Sometimes it's
- 0:56Speaker 1: lonely and sometimes it's frustrating. And sometimes you have to
- 1:00Speaker 1: believe in yourself when you are the only person who does.
- 1:06Speaker 1: But here's the thing. If you have a dream, you
- 1:09Speaker 1: owe it to yourself to chase it. Not because somebody
- 1:12Speaker 1: else says you're going to succeed. Not because somebody promises
- 1:16Speaker 1: you it's going to be easy. And not because people
- 1:21Speaker 1: doubted you. But because that dream belongs to you. Think
- 1:27Speaker 1: about how many people give up. On their dream. They
- 1:31Speaker 1: have no idea. They have something they want to accomplish.
- 1:35Speaker 1: They think about starting a business. Maybe writing a book.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Maybe starting a podcast. Or maybe moving somewhere they've always
- 1:41Speaker 1: dreamed about. Whatever it is. They think about it. And
- 1:46Speaker 1: then fear kicks in. What if I fail? Well let
- 1:50Speaker 1: me ask you something. What if you don't? What if
- 1:54Speaker 1: you don't try it? What if you don't go for it? But. Rather,
- 2:00Speaker 1: what if you actually try? What if you take that
- 2:06Speaker 1: first step? What if six months from now you're closer
- 2:09Speaker 1: than you are today? What if a year from now
- 2:12Speaker 1: you're looking back and saying, Thank God I didn't quit.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Thank God I believed in myself when nobody else did.
- 2:23Speaker 1: It's taking that first step even when you don't know
- 2:26Speaker 1: exactly where the road is going to lead. I've learned
- 2:30Speaker 1: that you don't always need to have the entire plan
- 2:32Speaker 1: figured out. Sometimes you just need to know the next step.
- 2:37Speaker 1: That's it. What's the next thing you can do? Make
- 2:41Speaker 1: that phone call. Send that email. Fill out an application.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Start the project. Record the first episode. Just get up
- 2:52Speaker 1: tomorrow and try again. You don't have to climb the
- 2:55Speaker 1: entire mountain today. Just take the next step. And then another.
- 2:59Speaker 1: And then another. And eventually you're going to look back
- 3:03Speaker 1: and realize you've traveled farther than you ever thought you
- 3:06Speaker 1: possibly could. But there's something else we need to talk about. People.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Because sometimes the hardest part of chasing your dreams isn't
- 3:16Speaker 1: the work. It's dealing with people who do not believe
- 3:20Speaker 1: in you. People who laugh at your idea. People who
- 3:25Speaker 1: tell you, it's not going to work. People who don't
- 3:28Speaker 1: understand why you're doing it. And sometimes, people who simply
- 3:34Speaker 1: do not support you. You know what? That hurts. That really,
- 3:43Speaker 1: really hurts. And I'm not going to sit here and
- 3:47Speaker 1: tell you it doesn't, because it does. When you're excited
- 3:50Speaker 1: about something and you tell somebody about it, you want
- 3:53Speaker 1: them to say, hell yeah, go for it. But sometimes
- 3:57Speaker 1: you don't get that response. Sometimes you get silence. Sometimes
- 4:01Speaker 1: you get criticism. Sometimes you get doubt. And sometimes you
- 4:06Speaker 1: get absolutely nothing. And here's something that I've learned. You
- 4:12Speaker 1: cannot build your future based on somebody else's approval. You
- 4:16Speaker 1: have to believe in what you're doing because at the
- 4:18Speaker 1: end of the day, it's your dream. It's your life.
- 4:21Speaker 1: It's your journey. And you're the one. You have to
- 4:25Speaker 1: live with the decision to either chase it or walk
- 4:29Speaker 1: away from it. Now, does that mean you're always going
- 4:33Speaker 1: to succeed? No. You're going to fail sometimes. You're going
- 4:37Speaker 1: to make mistakes. You're going to have setbacks. You're going
- 4:41Speaker 1: to have days when you question everything. But failure isn't
- 4:45Speaker 1: always the opposite of success. Sometimes failure is part of
- 4:50Speaker 1: the process. You learn, you adjust, you get back up,
- 4:53Speaker 1: and you keep moving. That's what separates a dream from
- 4:59Speaker 1: a goal. A dream is something you imagine. A goal
- 5:03Speaker 1: is something you start working towards. And maybe you achieve it.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Maybe you don't. But you know what? Achievement is what
- 5:12Speaker 1: happens when you keep working even after the excitement wears off.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Because motivation doesn't last forever. You might wake up one
- 5:21Speaker 1: morning and feel unstoppable. You might say, man, this is
- 5:25Speaker 1: my year. And then three days later, you're exhausted. That's normal.
- 5:34Speaker 1: That's why you need discipline. You need commitment. You need
- 5:37Speaker 1: to keep going even when you don't feel like it.
- 5:42Speaker 1: And most importantly, you need to keep going when everyone
- 5:45Speaker 1: else tells you to stop. And here's another thing. Stop
- 5:50Speaker 1: comparing your journey to someone else. You don't know what
- 5:55Speaker 1: they went through to get where they are. You don't
- 5:57Speaker 1: know their struggles. You don't know their failures. And you
- 6:01Speaker 1: don't know how many times they wanted to quit. You're
- 6:05Speaker 1: looking at their chapter 10 while you're still writing chapter 2.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Don't judge your beginning against someone else's middle. Your journey
- 6:14Speaker 1: is yours. There is no expiration date on having a dream.
- 6:18Speaker 1: There is no age limit on starting over. There is
- 6:22Speaker 1: no rule that says you have to have everything figured
- 6:24Speaker 1: out by a certain age. If there's something inside of
- 6:29Speaker 1: you that says, I want to do this, listen to it.
- 6:33Speaker 1: Because someday the biggest regret might not be that you failed.
- 6:39Speaker 1: It might be that you never tried. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 6:46Speaker 1: this is my dream. This is my goal. I have
- 6:54Speaker 1: a lot to say and this gives me a platform
- 6:59Speaker 1: to say exactly what's on my mind. And I hope
- 7:06Speaker 1: all of you listening can support me. I hope all
- 7:10Speaker 1: of you listening enjoy the stories that I tell, the
- 7:16Speaker 1: inspiration that I like to spread. Most importantly, I hope
- 7:25Speaker 1: you appreciate how hard I try to make this entertaining
- 7:29Speaker 1: to all of you. But if you have a dream,
- 7:34Speaker 1: if you have a goal, if you have something that
- 7:35Speaker 1: you want to do, go for it. Don't wait. Do
- 7:40Speaker 1: it now. Because you never know when that time maybe
- 7:50Speaker 1: won't be around any longer. You have to do it
- 7:55Speaker 1: while you still can. On that note, I hope you
- 8:01Speaker 1: all have a wonderful day. Please be the reason someone smiles,
- 8:06Speaker 1: and I will see you all on the next episode.
