- 0:16Hello and welcome back to the Easy Double Podcast episode 51.
- 0:21I'm joined by the two people I'm always joined by.
- 0:23First of all is the fella who I share a birthday with, and we
- 0:28both had that birthday last week.
- 0:30Dean Menzies, how are you doing? Doing well mate, Only a couple
- 0:35of years between us, give or take.
- 0:37It was good. Yeah, we weren't embarrassed
- 0:40either. Others and reveal any ages.
- 0:42But yeah, 4th of Feb sacred day in the easy double world Owen.
- 0:47You know, missing out mates. I know I was very jealous I
- 0:51didn't get the invite to the party I would have flew across,
- 0:54but the cake looks good. Yeah, well, as it plays out, I
- 1:00didn't know I got the invite to the party either.
- 1:03It was a bit of an surprise throw together thing from from
- 1:07Becky. Nice.
- 1:10And yes, somehow Gummy Bear and the Easy Double logo made it
- 1:14made it onto the cake. The priorities in your life.
- 1:19That's it, the Three pillars, Liverpool FC, Gummy Bear and
- 1:22Easy Double Pod. And in in speaking to Dean the
- 1:26other day, we did get some interesting birthday presents
- 1:29which might be fun to reveal to you.
- 1:32So I'll let Dean go first. The you let the snake out of the
- 1:37bag out of the bag. I met we may be getting our
- 1:41first pet Owen. Oh wow.
- 1:45Yeah, and I'm house and I are allergic to animal hair, albeit
- 1:49that I did grow up around all sorts of animals, but I'm also
- 1:53familiar with the work required to look after them.
- 1:55So we got a fairly low maintenance option.
- 1:58So we got. It's referred to a.
- 2:01A Stimson's Python is is. He's on its way.
- 2:05I was expecting a freaking goldfish or something.
- 2:09Similar. Just a little bit more, really.
- 2:12Why a snake? Why not?
- 2:17It's yeah, very. There's enough of them in
- 2:18Australia though. Yeah.
- 2:21You gotta say it's a picture. Is he a big guy?
- 2:25Well, not yet. He's just been.
- 2:26Hatched. Is it a?
- 2:29Clutch. Clutch of snakes, yeah.
- 2:33That's. Cute.
- 2:34What are you going to call them? Oh, that's right.
- 2:38Yeah, I think the pythons don't get very big.
- 2:42This one only gets about a meter long.
- 2:45Only a meter long. Where is he going to go?
- 2:48And again. Just run around the house and
- 2:51slide it out. There.
- 2:54I've been looking into how you because apparently occasionally
- 2:57they get out of their cages and So what you do is you put like
- 3:02powder, like talcum powder along the floor to find if they've
- 3:05gone in or out of a room because obviously that's my.
- 3:11God, yeah. So yeah.
- 3:12Poisonous though, are they? Nah, no, they just strangle.
- 3:14Yeah, I think that returned I'd get a goldfish safer.
- 3:20Get Gummy bear would be in trouble, but the rest of us
- 3:22would be right. Yeah, you can't bring it round
- 3:25to mine. It might work as you know, like
- 3:27them Norma tech boots, but they like compress your legs.
- 3:31Don't. You could just get him to wrap
- 3:33himself around your legs. He could work into the regime.
- 3:36Well, I've already got the boots, so this is probably the
- 3:38next edition. And well, I asked him as well,
- 3:45what, what would the name be? Owens.
- 3:46And maybe we could think about like the most snakiest person
- 3:50I'm running, but we'll have that conversation offline.
- 3:56And my present was also quite random.
- 3:59Becky got me. I don't know what she's trying
- 4:01to say to me. Tickets to go and do cage diving
- 4:05with the great white sharks. Oh wow man that is scary.
- 4:11You see videos of damn sharks getting in.
- 4:15Do you? Yeah.
- 4:18Should. Just on whale shark diver or
- 4:19something like that. They only eat by accident.
- 4:22Yeah, not enough adrenaline involved in that one, I don't
- 4:25think. When is?
- 4:28This. Haven't booked it in yet.
- 4:33I've been on their website. It's, it's quite interesting to
- 4:35be fair if you're a weirdo and like data because they're not
- 4:39there all year round. So obviously like it's, it's in
- 4:42the sticks really. It's in SA, it's about 7 hour
- 4:45drive from Adelaide. So it's a bit of a track to get
- 4:48to will take 5 or 6 days worth of like annual leave and
- 4:53whatever to do it. So obviously you want to like
- 4:55pick the most ideal time to make sure you see them.
- 4:58And through the charters that they've done since 2011, they
- 5:02record how many sharks they see on each like Venture House.
- 5:06So I was trying to like do some analysis and figure out when's
- 5:09the best months. And it's weird because some,
- 5:12some months, obviously seasonality plays into it, but
- 5:16also they follow like the, the seals.
- 5:19So like whenever the seals arrive, the sharks arrive, but
- 5:22the seals don't arrive at the same time every year.
- 5:25So, and they live, they update live every single day if they
- 5:29seen any sharks. So I've been being being aware
- 5:31though and tracking that. That's exciting, though.
- 5:35You Have you ever done a skydive?
- 5:38No, I don't know why that I'd be more scared of that than doing
- 5:41the shark thing. Man, are you serious?
- 5:45There's really nothing between you and the church.
- 5:49I don't even like taking off in a plane really.
- 5:52Oh, really? Yeah, I'm palms get sweaty.
- 5:58Yeah. Ever since we started writing
- 6:03and just, we're risk takers on snakes in the house.
- 6:07Use of change. Use of change.
- 6:09Sharks in the ocean. Oh.
- 6:13Right on to on to subject then. Big episode.
- 6:17Lots of European indoor meets going off all around the
- 6:20continent. Lots of drama regarding the
- 6:24potential half marathon world record that eventually reached a
- 6:29decision on ratification, Jacobing a Britain sharing some
- 6:32injury news which is hopefully positive, and then a bit of
- 6:36chaos going on in the Winter Olympics.
- 6:38I know it's not running related, but it was doing the rounds on
- 6:41all the socials. We'll have training weeks,
- 6:44YouTube Diaries and everything else in between.
- 6:48Before we get into that though, you would have seen on our
- 6:53Instagram Easy Double Pods that we're doing a giveaway for our
- 6:5750th episode slash 1st birthday episode.
- 7:01So BIX have kindly produced these Arrow Racing singlets for
- 7:05us, which are made out of ridiculously lightweight
- 7:10material which could be likened to another European running
- 7:14brand. Very accessible.
- 7:17Nice price, nice fest. Yeah, these are unreleased, so
- 7:21we're going to be given away. At first it was one of these to
- 7:231 winner with 10 BIX gels, but given the amount of people
- 7:27who've entered the competition, we feel that it's justified to
- 7:32up the amount of winners. So we're going to be giving away
- 7:343 vests to three different winners and only one lucky
- 7:39winner will win the gels because they're currently provided by
- 7:42Bix. So all you have to do is jump on
- 7:44the post and tag a mate who needs the gels more than you do,
- 7:48and then we'll announce the winner next week live on the
- 7:50recording or the winners. Exciting.
- 7:54Hi, I've seen pictures of the singlet.
- 7:57I haven't felt 1 yet but man they look good.
- 8:01They're on route, Owen. Yeah.
- 8:03Thanks. The house.
- 8:05Thank you. May it'll be a big toss up to
- 8:09put that on or the is it the county Meath vest?
- 8:13Well, Tara is my local club. Me doesn't have vests
- 8:16unfortunately. But yeah, I know maybe further
- 8:22for the nice race, but actually Valencia 10K entries open
- 8:26tomorrow. So that might, might get a nice
- 8:29wear out that race next year. But I'm expecting to see you
- 8:33guys there next year. Yeah, nice.
- 8:37Foundation and well, The thing is we obviously want to try and
- 8:42run, you know, pay base and keep getting better and better.
- 8:46And if we take a bit of bicarb, that might be able to bridge the
- 8:48gap that I'll have with my fitness.
- 8:51I'm telling ya, get on. I've started loading up on the
- 8:55beetroot. I remember we got Josh gave us
- 8:58beetroot shots. I read somewhere like you can
- 9:02load up on that. So I've started taking that for
- 9:04the race in our MA. So yeah, I'm doing everything I
- 9:07can. Love that.
- 9:10Well, don't be hitting panic stations when your Wii comes out
- 9:13rather red because that's what I've done in Marigami.
- 9:15After I downed a few, I was like, Oh my God, like I'm
- 9:18dehydrated or whatever, I'm pissing blood.
- 9:22I thought it was all over. But yeah, Speaking of the fly
- 9:26carb or the bicarb, you too done a brilliant job on that
- 9:29interview. I really enjoyed listening to
- 9:31that. And then kudos to the lads Josh
- 9:34and Jack for explaining it so well.
- 9:36I think lots of people will get good value from that.
- 9:41Yeah, absolutely. Oh.
- 9:44I just thought that they did it. I'm speaking for both of us
- 9:49here, but I just felt like we got a lot, We learned a lot as
- 9:52we were. We're going, right?
- 9:53We sort of lined up a heap of questions just to understand a
- 9:56bit about them, the history and then the product.
- 9:58And it felt like we were learning a lot about it.
- 10:00And yeah, I found the chat a lot of fun.
- 10:04Yeah, I'm the same. I feel like they actually
- 10:07described like, what it does so well.
- 10:09So like, if you actually do this, do you actually
- 10:11understand, like on the scientific level, like what it
- 10:13does? Like, it's not meant to like,
- 10:15decrease your lactate. It just lets you like, go for
- 10:19longer and probably will actually increase your lactate
- 10:22for, umm, yeah. And just the work they do on
- 10:24like a grassroot level. I felt like, yeah, they're doing
- 10:28a good job over there. Yeah, seems very nice then.
- 10:31Umm, I think unless you, you're trying to do it yourself in
- 10:37terms of improve in running and realize how how little, as you
- 10:42talk to some of the athletes, how little support there is, I
- 10:45think they have a lot of empathy for that.
- 10:46And so it's very nice to to see that they've now that they're
- 10:50starting to get some things go their way financially, that
- 10:52they're choosing to use what spare support they have to, to
- 10:57give back in that regard to that.
- 10:58That tier is really nice idea. Nice of you to pick up on that
- 11:01because I didn't know that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, they're
- 11:05good lads, they're good lads. Yeah, living the absolute dream,
- 11:09packed in the day job. And they just sound the products
- 11:11to help people run faster, like how rewarding, whether it's
- 11:15financially beneficial or not. But I mean, sounds like they're
- 11:19doing pretty well, so fair play to them.
- 11:22And it was good. They didn't go down the path of
- 11:24it. Similar path to cooking meth,
- 11:27but they cooked up bicarb in their backyard.
- 11:30That was in my head. Because there, there comes a
- 11:32time where the scale of the operation just gets too big.
- 11:36And I would love to just be in there when they're like at home
- 11:38and they're like, shit, like we actually can't cope.
- 11:40We need like a bigger, a bigger place to do this.
- 11:43So yeah, no delight from. It sounds like literally that's
- 11:47what happened, yeah. Outgrown the kitchen.
- 11:52It's funny because it's probably genuinely like kudos to them and
- 11:56how well they like scientifically explained that
- 11:58that one of my mates in like the running chat at home, Ollie, He
- 12:02sent a message before like isn't it?
- 12:05Is it not cheating though, Like you like messing with the ions
- 12:10and all that sort of stuff in your blood?
- 12:13And I think it's because they give it such a good scientific
- 12:16explanation in terms of like what's exactly happening inside
- 12:20your body that you understand so clearly how it literally
- 12:25elevates performance. Your go to reaction is like,
- 12:29that must be cheating. But it's literally a byproduct
- 12:32of food and it's not a drug. So it's the same argument with
- 12:36like carbon plates versus non carbon plates.
- 12:39Like it's all well within regulation and stuff, it's just
- 12:43clearly gives you that advantage and I'm sure the distances.
- 12:47But like, what really gets me, like if they weren't a thing
- 12:50like more and would have such a chokehold in that area and
- 12:55charge people outrageous prices for a product that it doesn't
- 13:00have to cost that much. Like the boys.
- 13:02Yeah, that's what really, really annoys me with them.
- 13:05Like you just think more and you trust big company, but they're
- 13:09absolutely taking people to the cleaners.
- 13:11And so that's what I don't like about it.
- 13:15Yeah, it's good they disrupted the disrupted it.
- 13:18But ahead of Morton though, like bicarb was often just taken by
- 13:23itself and was just terrible on your guts.
- 13:26And so, you know, it's good that as a consumer like they wants to
- 13:31that's interested in trying to improve you.
- 13:32You know, the science has been around for a while saying it's
- 13:35quite material, the improvement, but there's no fun way of
- 13:40ingesting the products such that you can handle it and then get
- 13:45the benefit. So call it that further way to
- 13:49yeah, get it through. And I feel like it people like
- 13:53think it's like elitist that like, oh, it's only for like the
- 13:55best of the best. But like you can put it in terms
- 13:58like what? How would you wear carbon shoes?
- 13:59Like you want to give yourself the best chance to run the best
- 14:02time, so why not take the bike out, which will actually 100%
- 14:07benefit you? Like I don't get why you
- 14:10wouldn't. Yeah.
- 14:11So like we pay, what is it, 350 bucks for a brand new pair of
- 14:17super shoes and they give you an economy saving of 4%, which
- 14:21works out to be 1 1/2% in terms of raw time.
- 14:24And then for 10 bucks you can buy one of these sachets and
- 14:27take that two hours before and have the same improvement.
- 14:32So yeah, like it's in my head. Like it's just, why not?
- 14:35Like it's free time. Yeah.
- 14:38So if you haven't already, jump on that was released on Saturday
- 14:42or Sunday and let us know what your thoughts are.
- 14:45There is actually a podcast listener code.
- 14:49We get 0 kickback from this by the way.
- 14:51It's just purely savings for you if you're if you're making an
- 14:54order. Is it ED-10 for 10% off?
- 14:57Yeah, but I think it's only on their website.
- 14:59Direct on their website. Yeah.
- 15:02And if you if you're not shopping on there, you can
- 15:04access it at aid station in Australia, right?
- 15:08So let's hear about some results.
- 15:10Owen Right. So over the weekend there was,
- 15:15yeah, it's safe to say there was a load of indoor meets between
- 15:19bronze, silver, gold level, all people just trying to get
- 15:23standards for the World Indoor Championships in Poland, which
- 15:26are coming up at the end of March, I want to say.
- 15:29So we'll start off on the 8th, which was yesterday, Sunday.
- 15:36There was an indoor meet in Germany and this is a bronze
- 15:39meet in Dortmund and they're not mentioned here was Luke McCann.
- 15:44So this was Luke McCann's an Irish distance runner and it was
- 15:48his first race in 500 days. So he's after coming back from a
- 15:52massive injury and he ran the 1500 there and ran 340.85 to
- 15:59come sixth. Now it wasn't his fastest run by
- 16:01a long time by a long shot as well, but it's just your first
- 16:05race in 500 days. Like kudos to him.
- 16:08Umm, it's a big one. It probably means a lot to him.
- 16:10Umm, but yeah, it's a good like put a line in the sand and now
- 16:13try and try and run faster. Umm, also on the Sunday there
- 16:19was a silver meat, silver labeled Meet in France meeting
- 16:23Mets monso, whatever. Yeah, in there there was the
- 16:28Aussie Adam Spencer. He ran the men's 1500 meters and
- 16:32he came second in a time of 335.85.
- 16:37And just for reference, this standard for the world indoors
- 16:41is 336. So Adam Spencer just got it
- 16:45there. So only him and Cam have it so
- 16:49far and we don't know if Cam's going to go.
- 16:53So apparently he's not going. I think it's said on the what's
- 16:58the other pocket that just Let's Run podcast and they said he's
- 17:03not running it. So apparently he's not.
- 17:05And so yeah, that's Adam Spencer.
- 17:07At least he's not like ticked off.
- 17:08It's nice to have in the back pocket.
- 17:11Yeah, I'm not that. When I was looking at the
- 17:13qualification standards and window for this world indoors,
- 17:17noticeably the window is rather than mine use.
- 17:20So you've you've obviously got to run the time, but you've also
- 17:24got to do it from the 1st of November, between the 1st of
- 17:27November and the 8th of March, which is what only a 5 month
- 17:30period. And that coming on the back of
- 17:34previous World Championships in September, where you know, you
- 17:39can kind of understand why, like people might look to not
- 17:43prioritize these world indoors in March because they're going
- 17:47to have wanted to take a bit of downtime after the world champs
- 17:50if they were there. And then they obviously want to
- 17:52like put a decent base phase in and to try and qualify for a
- 17:59meet in March and run a fast time from November to March.
- 18:02It means they're going to be compensating some of that base
- 18:05and potentially writing off the latter part of this season,
- 18:09which is like traditionally July, August, so you can see
- 18:15some of the conflicts that they have to weigh or.
- 18:18It sort of suits the Aussies because it's your track season
- 18:20now, isn't it? So if you're in Australia, like
- 18:25like you're sort of peaking right now.
- 18:27When is the national Aussie Championships?
- 18:30It's normally. April, yeah.
- 18:34OK, so that's actually really awkward then for you guys.
- 18:37If the world's is in, then American and yeah, and see some
- 18:42Poland or something like that. I mean in some ways, but I
- 18:45suppose if you're in shape early in our Aussie summer, then it
- 18:50times nicely like you have, like you say Chan, like Aussies have
- 18:56track races from the 1st of November through to the but for
- 18:59the full qualifying period, unlike some countries, but
- 19:02particularly if you don't have an indoor track.
- 19:04So there is an advantage there. It's just that when do you peak?
- 19:10Do you peak for your Aussie summer but then not be fit for
- 19:13European summer and all that sort of stuff?
- 19:15Yeah. So to have them.
- 19:19Yeah, because some people will probably be having to make
- 19:21decisions maybe between like do we target world indoors or do we
- 19:26target, well depends if you're European or not.
- 19:28Do we target Europeans and or COM games in like that July,
- 19:32August period? Because it'd be hard to do them
- 19:34all and qualify for them all. Because when you start thinking
- 19:38about, because it's not just racing at the championship,
- 19:41you've got obviously peak to qualify to be there.
- 19:44So that's then like 5 or 6 different peaks across the 12
- 19:48month window. It's it's hard to manage.
- 19:51Yeah. At the same me in the men's 3K
- 19:56Yan shrub, so people might be familiar with him for cross
- 19:59country and he's super fast half marathon time.
- 20:02I don't have marathon time as but he ran the 3K here and he
- 20:05ran A72938 solo, which it was I watched his life.
- 20:11It was crazy, the standard. For the world's is 733, so umm
- 20:16yeah, to run that solo is umm is really, really good going umm
- 20:20and then at the same meet the last race and Fem Cabal made her
- 20:23800 meter debut and she won the race in 159 in .7.
- 20:32So she probably ran a hard way. Umm, she ran through the 1st 200
- 20:37meters in 2699, then her 400 meter split was 5666, uh, 600
- 20:44meters she went through in 128. So between 400 and 600 she split
- 20:4932 seconds and then her last 200 meters was 30 seconds, which
- 20:53finished in 159. But yeah, for her first 800 like
- 20:58to break 2 minutes. It's like it's a massive barrier
- 21:01in the women 800 meters. And for her to just go out and
- 21:03do it. She's the first Dutch woman to
- 21:05break 2 since Stefan Hassan in 2018.
- 21:08Umm, So yeah. And the standard for the world
- 21:12indoor 800 in the women's is too flat.
- 21:16So yeah, she's booked her ticket to Poland.
- 21:22She didn't she look make 32nd or 2627 pace look incredibly slow.
- 21:31She wasn't moving her arms at all.
- 21:33It was crazy. She was like.
- 21:35Yeah. She like I had the brakes on the
- 21:37whole like look like she had the brakes on the whole race.
- 21:41Like if that was me, she never. Got gone.
- 21:43I'd be straight to the arms. You know, when you when you hear
- 21:46people talk about like your limbs being like stiff being
- 21:50good because they're like elastic and like springy, you
- 21:54can just imagine how like fired up hairs are there because she's
- 21:58just like boy and getting along. Isn't she like, so majestically
- 22:02it's as bizarre? Yeah, it didn't look like,
- 22:06because particularly I think say women's 815 hundred, like it's a
- 22:11real like strength. You know, you need that like
- 22:14that real strength. And then to see these like, like
- 22:18like a sprinter move up. It was, yeah.
- 22:21It was cool. That was actually a national
- 22:24indoor record as well on debut for us.
- 22:28Like it's hard because she's already like a insanely world
- 22:32class athlete. Like moving up.
- 22:33She's won multiple gold medals and stuff.
- 22:36So hair standard that you compare against is like across
- 22:39the world rather than like best in her country.
- 22:42But still new discipline. To then go and be the fastest
- 22:45woman to ever do that is pretty wild.
- 22:50It's just one of them. I'd say if she ran a marathon,
- 22:52I'd say she just smashed it out of the park as well.
- 22:54I think she's just one of them that to do everything she.
- 22:58Looks like like a little schoolgirl as well and she I
- 23:03don't know how old she is but she only looks like she's like
- 23:0516 or something the way she wears her hair and like the
- 23:08little plaats and stuff. She's really squeaky voice as
- 23:12well when she. Does yeah explain to the
- 23:18listeners how it sounds? It's sort of like Minnie Mouse
- 23:21isn't? It.
- 23:23Yeah. I'm not going to try.
- 23:27I'm sick enough. But you don't, you don't see it
- 23:30coming out because the interview will ask a question and then you
- 23:32hear like, yeah, Minnie Mouse speak back.
- 23:35It's like, well, shit. I think that was the same where
- 23:38I'm Jess Hall. I was in this question heard to
- 23:40sound like that either. Yeah, but that was France same
- 23:47day, Sunday evening, and there was another meeting in Germany.
- 23:51So this is Cal Rush. It's a gold meet, so just a
- 23:54higher level than the one that Luke McCann was in.
- 23:57And there was a women's 1500 meters in this which gained a
- 24:00bit of attention. So the race was won by George
- 24:04Hunter Bell from the UK. She ran 400.04, which is a world
- 24:10lead. Second was Birthday Halem from
- 24:13Ethiopia, she's always in them Diamond League races, she'd be
- 24:15pretty familiar with that. She ran 400.0.88.
- 24:20And then Terry was I get Gillima from France who ran at 4/02/12,
- 24:26which was a national record and not an order, not invention was
- 24:29at Jeremy Ricci. She came fifth in 4/03/83, which
- 24:34was the season's best. But yeah, Georgia Hunter Bell
- 24:37opening her season before coming across to to ours.
- 24:42What you think? Very good run I reckon 4 flats.
- 24:47It's hard because like Kippie a gun runs like 350 or something
- 24:52and this doesn't change. It's just like my if you look at
- 24:55hair times, then this time would look not that good.
- 24:58But otherwise the the rest of the women like trying to break 4
- 25:01minutes is like a a big massive barrier.
- 25:05So and the fact that she's put away Halon and that guillemots
- 25:09the French girls, she was flying last year I think as well season
- 25:14opener. So she'll definitely take that.
- 25:17What and what's her best event, the 1500 or the 800?
- 25:21I think she was traditionally that she was the 8, wasn't she?
- 25:24And then she started moving up to this 15 last year, given
- 25:28there was potential medal opportunity there.
- 25:30And then with the way the races were going with the the kick
- 25:34down finishes and stuff, she's she had that 800 meter speed so
- 25:38she could potentially take advantage of that during the
- 25:41last lap. So probably depends how the race
- 25:44has played out, which is our best one.
- 25:46But if Kippie A Gombley stretches it from the front,
- 25:49then she's got nothing to kick down for.
- 25:54Didn't she win silver in the no am I getting?
- 25:57I thought she was initially 15 and then she dropped down to the
- 26:00Ace. I thought, how was that?
- 26:03Was it that way around? I don't know.
- 26:05Yeah, because didn't she? Win.
- 26:07Oh yeah. Didn't she win bronze in 2024 at
- 26:10Tokyo? Oh, sorry, Paris in the 1500 and
- 26:14then in Tokyo last year when silver just kicked over the top
- 26:20of Keely Hodgkinson. Is that right?
- 26:23Am I getting that? Yeah, that's right, because the
- 26:25narrative was between them, two training partners, wasn't it?
- 26:28Yeah. But I don't know what her best
- 26:31event is, but maybe she's with all with Femke moving up to the
- 26:348, I don't know. If someone starts blasting it
- 26:36out of the water, do you go back to the 15?
- 26:41Yeah. I mean, they're both stacked I
- 26:42think, to be honest. What is she running in
- 26:47Australia? What then she's doing that
- 26:51Murray plant me. So I don't know what the
- 26:53benchmark races though you'd think maybe it's the 1500 if
- 26:58they put one on. I wonder if if they're going to
- 27:03announce anyone else or if because like what last year was
- 27:07to Bogo and previous years white men and then before that even
- 27:11there's always been like top top stars hasn't no wonder like is
- 27:16Georgia Hunter Bell the the main sell this year or the holding
- 27:20back on someone else? She's not that big of a name,
- 27:24you'd have to go bigger hopefully anyway.
- 27:28Same. OK same me there was Emma 3K,
- 27:31women's 3K and this was won by Gabriela Dubo Stafford.
- 27:36She's Canadian. She ran 835944 seasons.
- 27:41Best second was at least Cranny from the US.
- 27:43She's now training with 11 track club with Georgia and she ran
- 27:51837 O 6. And then third was, you know, a
- 27:56Nabrett from Ethiopia who ran 838.90 and the standard for the
- 28:02women's 3K is 830-5835 flat. So none of them actually got the
- 28:09standard and also Noble mentioned in that race, fifth
- 28:13was Laura Moore. Laura Moore who came who ran
- 28:168:40 and then in as Fitzgerald was close behind her just
- 28:21separated by a couple of milliseconds.
- 28:25In the there was a men's tree K that was won by Stefan Nelson
- 28:29from the from the Netherlands who ran 73848.
- 28:34Second was Jacob Crop from Kenya around 73864 so very close
- 28:40there. And actually turtles Valentin
- 28:42Soka around 73890. So yeah, the three of them are
- 28:46separated by nothing. I.
- 28:48Tell you what it does some rates in that that Uruguayan guy
- 28:51doesn't. He's on.
- 28:52He's on the results like every week in one form or another.
- 28:55Was that the where was he just, I'm trying to recall, what was
- 28:59he just, was it the Valencia Tenka?
- 29:01Where was he that we were reading him out the other day?
- 29:04I think he was in Boston somewhere, yeah.
- 29:07And he ran Valencia. He's fun, I think around the
- 29:10court. For me, I was at last year it
- 29:12was. He's he's.
- 29:14Now. Got.
- 29:14A sick deal. He's sponsored by ASIC now, so
- 29:16he's doing well. I think he's still in college.
- 29:18Is he? I wonder who his agent is.
- 29:22Whoever it is, they're clearly very good because the
- 29:25governments all the meets. Is he MTC?
- 29:31That might be wrong. Anyway, we can look that up.
- 29:37Men's 800, There was just one British guy, Ben Patterson came
- 29:41forward. He ran 147.64 and that Sander
- 29:49for that as 145. So he's just a little bit off
- 29:51that. And insanely there.
- 29:55Was a men's 1500 meters that was won by Azadeen Hobbs from
- 29:59France. He ran 337.36 for seasons best
- 30:04he's ran 327 so and yeah, a little bit off that.
- 30:08Second was Federico Riviera from Italy who ran 333.94 for a
- 30:13national record and 3rd was Jochum Vermalen from Belgium who
- 30:18ran 335.48. Hobbs is back.
- 30:24Interested to see what he does. He laid low there last year.
- 30:29He didn't. Really do.
- 30:29Well last year, did he? He won a Diamond League and then
- 30:31disappeared or something. Yeah, he was.
- 30:35One of those who peaked too early and.
- 30:38So that. Was they're moving hey so.
- 30:42Like in terms of meeting the standards they're well under.
- 30:47Yeah, yeah. But they're just possible like I
- 30:50think both of them are like both have.
- 30:53Been around the block about I think.
- 30:54Hobbs and Riviera, yeah, I don't know whether.
- 30:57Because. When you look at the standard
- 31:00particularly, I can't remember what the women's was, but for
- 31:02the men, the 1500 meter standard for Tokyo in September, it was
- 31:06331 flat, was it? And now for these world indoors,
- 31:10it's 336 flat. So have they softened it because
- 31:16they know not as many people are going to be going for it,
- 31:18therefore the caliber of athlete might be like not as fast?
- 31:21Or is it because the the races indoors aren't as fast?
- 31:26Or a bit of both? I think I've heard indoor is
- 31:31harder than outdoor. So maybe because it's harder
- 31:35they've lessened the standard? Because I heard the banks are
- 31:38hard or there's more bands so it slows, yeah, or something like
- 31:42that. So I heard indoor is actually
- 31:44slower apparently, except for Boston.
- 31:47Boston's The Anomaly. You'll die on.
- 31:50That hill, Yeah, Boston's cheat code.
- 31:54Until he runs on it. And then there was one more
- 32:02indoor meet which was on the Friday.
- 32:05So this was in Madrid and UMM, this had a few big names in it.
- 32:08So there was a men's 1000 meter world record attempt, UMM
- 32:13Mohammed Atui from the OEC, from Europe.
- 32:17He was going for UMM and he ended up running at 21452, which
- 32:22UMM was a European record, not a world record.
- 32:25The world record is 2/11/96 by this Kenyan Noah in Gay who ran
- 32:31in September 1999. Second was Marino Garcia from
- 32:36Spain here on 2/16 and 3rd was Adrian by Adrian Ben who ran 216
- 32:41as well. Fourth was Alex Bottle.
- 32:43I've never heard of him before but around 2:17 which is pretty
- 32:45fast. The women's 15. 100 that was won
- 32:53by Burke Halem, and from Ethiopia she ran for she ran.
- 33:00Oh so OK, so she ran on the Friday.
- 33:01And then doubled up on the Sunday she.
- 33:06Berkeley, Halem. She ran four O 2 and Nadia.
- 33:09About a claddy. Run that race as well.
- 33:11She got APB of four O 3 which got her second and then third
- 33:15was Sharon Boraha from Ethiopia. She ran four O 4 same me there
- 33:21was the men's 3K and won by she can say.
- 33:27On batter. Classy there because she's been
- 33:29competitive in the five and 10,000 meters previously, hasn't
- 33:33she? And she seems to be one of them
- 33:36who like likes the hard grindy races.
- 33:40Like if the pace is hot, she just gets on it and and hangs
- 33:43on. So to see her running rather
- 33:46bloody quick for a 5010 thousand girl over 1500 meters is quite
- 33:52exciting. I mean, and I'm not sure you
- 33:55you're quite into it because there's some skepticism from you
- 33:59on this one. But she yeah, maybe she's
- 34:03looking to fix one of those attributes and see if she can
- 34:07close in a fast race. Yeah.
- 34:10I just know her. Father, it's.
- 34:11Actually like proving like her father got caught.
- 34:14And so yeah, that's where my sex skepticism comes from.
- 34:19But she was pushing the pace in this one as well.
- 34:20Like she went around Halem with like a couple laps to go and she
- 34:24was pushing that. But then Halem, I think but 1:50
- 34:26to go and Halem got her umm. But yeah, like savage range,
- 34:31like four or three for a girl does the 10K yeah, it's pretty
- 34:36good going. And the men's 3K Ryan's die one
- 34:41this sheep. Sheep day, Sheet day.
- 34:45From South Africa he ran 73911 and second was Valentin Soka
- 34:51from Uruguay who ran 739 and third was Gabrinette well a from
- 34:56Ethiopia who ran 73998 so very close at the top.
- 35:00I don't this is Osiris ways I should have put the Friday 1st
- 35:03but whatever your man so get doubled up later on the day.
- 35:08Adam Spencer ran this race. He came 10th and 7:59.
- 35:13So he ran this race in Madrid on the Friday and then he backs up
- 35:19on the Sunday to get the standard.
- 35:20So say that's a box ticked for him and.
- 35:25That's all the. Indoor races for the weekend and
- 35:28there was a cross country race in London called the London
- 35:31Cross Challenge. And this just came to my
- 35:34attention because Hugo Milner, who is like he's a triathlete,
- 35:37but he does, he ran European cross there two years ago and he
- 35:41like was up at the front with Jacob and all that sort of
- 35:43stuff. So he won this in 32 minutes, 16
- 35:46seconds. Second was Richard Slade in 3239
- 35:49and third was James Kingston, which is another pretty big name
- 35:53in UK running the things young lad, he ran 3245 and the women's
- 35:57side, Eleanor Curran won in 2950.
- 36:01Second was Scout Adkin who ran 30 O one and third was Neve
- 36:06Brown who ran thirty O 8. Now we'll jump across.
- 36:13Cross country. Cross country is still going it
- 36:16feels like it's been on forever since maybe was it like November
- 36:20the 1st meets and stuff my. I think I need to meet in.
- 36:24October did you? Yeah.
- 36:27So, well, that probably follows like an Aussie.
- 36:30One in August or something. Probably because we speak of
- 36:33Aussie stuff as well. Yeah, I feel like it.
- 36:37Drags on in the UK more than well, even though there's still
- 36:40a bit of running, cross country, racing and Ireland, it's not
- 36:42that big for like this one must have been relatively big to get
- 36:45Hume, Huber, Milner out and about.
- 36:48So yeah, that was. The London.
- 36:52Cross Challenge We'll jump over to Dubai now for the Burge to
- 36:58Burge half marathon, which gets. All the big.
- 37:04East Africans the winner. Of this.
- 37:08Was Joshua chapter guy from Uganda who ran?
- 37:1259. 26 second was Nicholas kept career from Kenya who ran 29 or
- 37:185928 and third was Alphonse. Simbu.
- 37:24From Tanzania who ran 5930. So Joshua chapter Guy is just
- 37:30running for being super fast on the track.
- 37:34Yeah, I was going to say so he's.
- 37:35The the reigning world record holder in the five and the
- 37:3910,000 meters isn't he? And he's attempted a couple of
- 37:43times to move up to the marathon and perhaps they haven't went as
- 37:47well as you would expect from a world record holder over middle
- 37:51distances. So what do you think this 59 1/2
- 37:56minutes over the half marathon does for his marathon potential?
- 37:59Is that is that a good marker for him?
- 38:04It's hard to know like. What the course is like, I mean,
- 38:08often all you can do is win, right?
- 38:09So he's won, but the time's not exceptionally fast.
- 38:16Putting aside keep Limo's record or time but 50s.
- 38:21But there's been a few people that have run 57 1/2 minutes
- 38:24like. I mean, what did have?
- 38:26Tom debut in Yeah, faster than that.
- 38:30Yeah, 0205901. Yeah, so.
- 38:37You know, for context, there's a lot of guys running faster than
- 38:40that. Over 1/2 and no.
- 38:42One's run quicker than. Him over 10K, so it's not the
- 38:45time itself's not exceptional. Surely it was warm though.
- 38:52Yeah, you'd think so. I mean, it was a.
- 38:55PB. Forum looking at it, which it's
- 38:58not going to move the marker by much.
- 39:00He's run like a Oh no, sorry. He's run 5921 in 2020, so yeah.
- 39:06That doesn't do much. For him at all, really, he's
- 39:09already. Run 20. 4 over the marathon and
- 39:13it sounds ridiculous that he's being judged off that and saying
- 39:17like, well, you haven't hit your potential, but from a world
- 39:20record 26, 38 in the 10K on the road, 2611 on the track, and
- 39:28you'd think there's potentially more room for conversion there.
- 39:32Your man. Simbu, he's the kid.
- 39:33That won the came second or did he win the world marathon, the
- 39:39world champion marathon? What do you been one?
- 39:42Hundredths of a second or something.
- 39:44So that was the dive to the line where.
- 39:46Petra. Petrus from Germany, Yeah, yeah.
- 39:50Bit of a bit. Of a rooster.
- 39:52Right, a bit easy on the eye, is what Ryan says.
- 39:54I think about in the short shorts.
- 40:00Goes to the split ease I think. Being on the.
- 40:04Ski jumpers and injections. And.
- 40:12The winner in watching the. Winter Olympics, have you saw,
- 40:15have you sidetracked into any much of that?
- 40:17You would get a bit of that, surely?
- 40:19I went over in Ireland, right? Like it'd be a lot closer
- 40:23closer. To that than.
- 40:25I think. Ireland have four people at the
- 40:28Winter Olympics and like three of them and Irish.
- 40:33Really. As in like, yeah.
- 40:34They're like, they're like Canadian or American or
- 40:37something like that. I don't know how it works.
- 40:41Yeah, like boredom. Like it's on like, let's say the
- 40:44BBC. Yeah, it's on the BBC or like,
- 40:47or the main TV channel here in the evening and it shows like
- 40:51highlights and all sort of stuff.
- 40:52So because it's only, well, it's in Milan, like it's not that far
- 40:54away. I'm so like it's only an hour
- 40:57ahead. Of us, time wise and.
- 41:01But I think it's cool. Some events around.
- 41:05Even as Randall of. January.
- 41:06I thought you would have been a Winter Olympic specialist
- 41:08country. No, it's rain not.
- 41:13Snow. I see in a clip on.
- 41:19Them on XI. Don't know which bobsled team it
- 41:22was. It might have been the
- 41:22Americans. Bizarrely, usually Americans was
- 41:26it. And they're all.
- 41:28Doing like the Sprint star, it's on the floor team and only one
- 41:32of them made it into the bobsled and they're all fucking sliding
- 41:34down the chute. I did say that.
- 41:37I did also saw some Norwegian. The Norwegians dominate their
- 41:42skiing. Hey, they've VO2, Yeah or.
- 41:46With their hundred. Plus.
- 41:47VO2. I seen.
- 41:51Yeah. I've never seen.
- 41:53Any of them. I.
- 41:55Seen a meme and it was like. That video of the Americans in
- 41:59the bobsleigh and it's like America trying to invade
- 42:02Greenland because Greenland. 'S full of snow, apparently.
- 42:06And it's like, yeah. That was fun.
- 42:09Anyway, back to somewhere. Where there's no.
- 42:10Snow. Dubai.
- 42:13The women's side. It was won by Irene Chapter from
- 42:16Kenya in 6657. Second was Josh Leah John Arrow
- 42:23from Kenya who ran 6659 and third was for Twazare from
- 42:29Ethiopia around 67 O1. Like I think it's crazy that
- 42:32like boredom, 67 minute half marathoners and I've never heard
- 42:35of any of them before in my life.
- 42:37Noble mentioned 5th Alexandra Bell from Great Britain.
- 42:40She ran 6935 and which is 15th all time on her debut and on a
- 42:47box up her 305710K in Valencia. Yeah, what do you reckon?
- 42:53On that 3057 in Valencia is a lot better than that 6935
- 42:59though, isn't it? Yeah, but I think it's different
- 43:04I. Don't like I feel.
- 43:05Like it's different training. No like that from a 10K to 1/2.
- 43:09I feel like it is a big step up the same 1/2 to a marathon, like
- 43:13you know, even halfway there when you run a 10K.
- 43:17And again, this is our first and it's in freaking Dubai.
- 43:23She's coming from that. 800 meter pedigree as well.
- 43:26It's not like she's used to this type of trainer, no.
- 43:31So yeah, still a savage run. You take down your debut, Yeah.
- 43:35It's interesting seeing. People switch distances and like
- 43:39they run very well, but then there's there's real life
- 43:42specialists like it is all quite specific.
- 43:45Like do you remember when Jacob tried to RIP a fast half at the
- 43:49end of his track season and he's just come off winning a Diamond
- 43:52League running? I think it might have been the
- 43:54time he ran around the time he ran 717 for 3K.
- 43:58So like he's exceptionally good over that.
- 44:01But then when he got to the roads was not as efficient and
- 44:05yes. You know it's the same with
- 44:06femme keys. Like she's what did she run 49
- 44:08seconds for 400 meters, which is outrageous.
- 44:11Like, but then like there's only a handful of women or maybe say
- 44:1710 ever 20 ever that have done that, yet there'd be over 100
- 44:22that have run under 2 minutes for 800.
- 44:25Like there's they're, they're both exceptional performances,
- 44:29but there's experts of the experts in their distance.
- 44:34Yeah, 63. 30 and Jacob Brown when he tried that half shit
- 44:39Dean, you could you could have been chasing him up the last UK.
- 44:43But didn't he split? He split halfway in like 28
- 44:49Lower 27. Yeah, something crazy, yeah.
- 44:55All gone downhill since. Then Mr. Yahoo and.
- 45:00The the. Kenyan who won that that race in
- 45:05January 2024. She ran the Valencia 10K in
- 45:113017. She's a marathon PB at 2:17, so
- 45:16she. Ran the 2:17 in.
- 45:17Chicago last year. She only ran one race.
- 45:21And it was the marathon in Shanghai she went to. 18 there
- 45:25so. Yeah, she's got a bit history
- 45:26behind her. That's all of their race
- 45:30results. Before we go.
- 45:35Into previewing the ones coming up do we want to maybe we'll
- 45:39talk about some running news before we do training week so I
- 45:43assume you're both seeing well, I think we would have shared it
- 45:45in our chat that Kiplimo's insane half marathon run from
- 45:50last year what was it the 5642 in Barcelona where he ran in
- 45:55adverted commas? What would have been a world
- 45:58record? There's been a lot of talk
- 46:02around that because it was never ratified, and now we see why,
- 46:05because they finally decided that it wouldn't be ratified.
- 46:09They're largely not because any drugs or any cheating was found
- 46:14from that point of view, but more so because he was deemed to
- 46:17have been following the lead car too closely, which I feel bad
- 46:20for him really, because he can't influence that car can.
- 46:24He's obviously just going to take as much benefit from it as
- 46:28he can and run as close to as he can.
- 46:31It's. Stupid race.
- 46:32Has done them dirty rarely. What do you think?
- 46:37Yeah. We probably covered this and
- 46:41it's been covered on other podcasts like the Real Science
- 46:43Sports podcast, but the performance itself was so
- 46:46exceptional that it was hard to comprehend.
- 46:51And I still feel a bit about that.
- 46:52So part of me. Likes the fact that.
- 46:55It hasn't been ratified because I not sure if I believe it.
- 47:00I don't know. I don't know if that's right or
- 47:01wrong, but that's just how I feel about it.
- 47:04So yeah, I like that it's still 5730 odd, as crazy as that
- 47:10sounds, even given like the Aussie records 2 1/2 minutes off
- 47:14that, but that sits better than 3 1/2 minutes I suppose.
- 47:20Yeah, I'm with Dean as well on this one.
- 47:24It's just. It's crazy.
- 47:25To run a 56, 40 odd half marathon like the carrot
- 47:29definitely helped him. I'm like, fair enough.
- 47:30It wasn't his fault that the car was closed on I it's just yeah,
- 47:34it it seems too good to be true. So I'm happy that it's hasn't
- 47:39gratified but. Then Buddy Roof.
- 47:43Chapman gets it. Who we know was doping.
- 47:46Her record still stands, Yeah, but she.
- 47:49Wasn't open the time she. Ran the record right.
- 47:52Come on, Well as pair the blue findings, it's fucking nice, but
- 47:59Jirak and Kajalcha gets a world record bonus again now that
- 48:02he's. He's the new holder.
- 48:06Probably why. I was so long.
- 48:07I was. Thinking.
- 48:08If Kaplima would have got a bonus or would they have waited
- 48:12for it to be ratified? True.
- 48:15Hopefully they waited, maybe like.
- 48:19Sports bet they're doing early payout.
- 48:22First past the post. It's funny though, because when
- 48:25you look. At the all time list he's still
- 48:28he goes from potential world record holders.
- 48:31Oh well, I'll just have to settle for second fastest all
- 48:33time because he's actually run one second slower than
- 48:36Kajelcha's 5730 in Lisbon bizarrely in back in 2021.
- 48:43Fair. Chance he gets it at some point.
- 48:47Imagine he's on because. Barcelona is again this weekend,
- 48:50isn't it? Imagine he just rolls up to the
- 48:52start line because he's on the London start list, wasn't it?
- 48:56We were saying. Yeah, yeah, it's it's crazy that
- 49:04on this like the fastest all time half marathoners, the top
- 49:0830 are all East African. Yeah, I had to scroll all the
- 49:14way to 50th. Yeah, to find to.
- 49:18Find a European wasn't even an American and under some Almgren.
- 49:25Second piece of news being that Jacob Binga Britain finally got
- 49:30some surgery on his Achilles, which has been given him
- 49:33problems on and off for what must be the best part of AC
- 49:38months, two years almost now. He's tried to come back a couple
- 49:41of times and. Clearly.
- 49:44Unsuccessfully managed it or managed to sustain training in
- 49:48its current conditions. So I think that he flew over to
- 49:51the Oh well, he's probably in the US already because he trains
- 49:54and Flagstaff a lot and he got surgery in the US.
- 49:59Seeing him photos of him in a like a walk in booth.
- 50:02I don't know how long the recovery is from it, but I
- 50:05think. He'd already said.
- 50:07He was planning on opening the season not till like June, July
- 50:10time. So I don't know if this pushes
- 50:12that back further or if he'll be on track for that.
- 50:15What do you know? Apparently his Achilles is like.
- 50:18Fully intact. So the Achilles wasn't the
- 50:20problem. It was like a sheet that like.
- 50:23Surrounds. The Achilles had a lot of scar
- 50:25tissue on it, so he just got that removed or something like
- 50:29that. I don't really know.
- 50:31But yeah. So I think the recovery is is
- 50:35going to be faster than usual because it actually isn't the
- 50:38physical Achilles. So hopefully he comes back, but
- 50:41like there's nothing to come back to really.
- 50:43There's no big. The biggest championship this
- 50:45year is Wolf World Indoors on the world stage and maybe he
- 50:50might get Europeans there on the summer, you don't know.
- 50:52But he's in really. This is like the perfect gear to
- 50:55do it for him. So I'm happy he got done and
- 50:57hopefully we'll see him back pretty soon.
- 51:00Have you seen that there's? Not nothing much has been spoken
- 51:03of it, but there's a meese in I think it's September called like
- 51:06the World Ultimate Championships.
- 51:08I don't know if it's the first rendition of it, but it's like
- 51:11to qualify you have to have worn, I think won the Diamond
- 51:14League in the season leading up to it and or be reigning Olympic
- 51:19or world champions like hence the name Ultimate Championships.
- 51:25So it'd be interesting to see how that is received on the back
- 51:29end of the season. I guess with there being no like
- 51:32major championships this year, that's kind of like in replace
- 51:36of it whether. He can get himself right for.
- 51:39That I. Just went on a bit of a.
- 51:42Google rabbit hole. So apologies guys, but like just
- 51:45looking at those world records again.
- 51:47So the first two Kenyans on that list, Kibi Watt Candy and Ronix
- 51:53Kipruto, aren't they both serving doping bans?
- 51:58Pretty sure I'm like. Checking the reading.
- 52:01Some old news here and it reads that they both are.
- 52:08Yeah, I wonder how many. You can.
- 52:09Delete from that list. Yeah.
- 52:11So they're both. On that list, because I think
- 52:13when they got done is like both in 2025, but they're both under
- 52:1858 minutes. So just in terms of performances
- 52:22feeling too good to be true. And then two of the people that
- 52:25either held the world record or in the top five ever, both
- 52:29currently. Serve in doping bans.
- 52:30I don't know. Just reaffirms the.
- 52:34Comments about the previous world record?
- 52:36I think maybe. But anyway, yeah, it's hard.
- 52:42When you start to look into it and like actually question them,
- 52:47you can find a reason to almost wipe off anything towards the
- 52:51top. But like, you've got to draw the
- 52:52line somewhere, haven't you? Otherwise, what what's the point
- 52:55in following and trying to enjoy the sport?
- 52:58But I get that, yeah, it's a very mixed and blurred line.
- 53:04I'm sure wasn't there another fucking?
- 53:06Canyon Dawn this week. Yeah, some guy who?
- 53:11Was on like a 10,000 meter podium.
- 53:13I was trying to just dig it back out.
- 53:15Thanks. We shared it to each other.
- 53:17I'm so. Dickhead like fuck.
- 53:19Off. Quebec Coetch of Kenya.
- 53:24DQ D from the Paris. 10,000 meter final because of that.
- 53:30Is he on this list? And like it was just he wasn't
- 53:34actually caught doping. It was that abnormalities in his
- 53:38like athlete biological passport.
- 53:42Yeah, so in Paris, he. Actually finished fifth in the
- 53:45race behind Chapter Guy Aragawa, Grant Fisher, Muhammad Ahmed,
- 53:51ahead of Cadel Chebrega Kiplimo and he's since been dehued from
- 53:56that because of this. When will it stop?
- 54:02It does worry you because you. You must think like, do the do
- 54:06some of the athletes know that the others are doing it and do
- 54:09they know which ones are doing it?
- 54:11And do they therefore then think, well, if they're
- 54:15cheating, I like physically have to cheat to be able to remain
- 54:18competitive and then therefore is largely a hell of a lot of
- 54:23them doing it and like 1 by 1, it's drift feeding through to us
- 54:27and they're managing to catch them slowly.
- 54:31Like and some pretty top performances.
- 54:34So this person's been, yeah, top 8 at the Olympics, top 8 at the
- 54:37world champs and top 8 at the world running, road running
- 54:40champs. So it has taken like those
- 54:43honors, you know, top 8. Like I think funding and things
- 54:45like that all hang off when you finish within the top 8 of an
- 54:48Olympic event, you know, there's often 8 lines.
- 54:50So you're deemed as like a finalist, you know?
- 54:56Like he hasn't run since. August 2024 So like, surely they
- 55:01knew like long before this, and probably.
- 55:05His banner get back dated to them wearing it and yeah he must
- 55:08have knew but like. It's just like when, when do
- 55:13they just the whole country get banned or can you even ban the
- 55:15country? Like I noticed we talked about
- 55:16so much. Like it's, it's so ridiculous.
- 55:19At this stage. Is this?
- 55:22Is it strange? That like I almost want like a
- 55:26top level big profile white guy to get done just to like throw
- 55:29the cat amongst the pigeons. Because like I feel bad for some
- 55:32of the African nations that like unashamedly, well, ashamedly,
- 55:37they all kind of got tarred with the same brush because of the
- 55:40Kenyans and The Ethiopians. Like what's happening with them
- 55:43now? And is it really the case that
- 55:47no white person is doing it and it just all East Africans?
- 55:52I think it comes back to like, like there's other things going.
- 55:56We can make a living in other ways and make a pretty good
- 55:58living. Whereas in Kenya, it's got a
- 56:01history of being really good runners.
- 56:03Umm, if like it's just a way easier out for them to dope and
- 56:09actually make a good living. Like it's worth the risk if you
- 56:11get me. Whereas over here we've got
- 56:14other things going on to make money from, umm, Yeah, like.
- 56:20I don't. And the thing that worries?
- 56:21Me is Kenyans getting popped so much.
- 56:24There's nothing about Ethiopia. It's little.
- 56:26Brother so like. I don't know.
- 56:29I really don't know. It's it's drawn like a few
- 56:33Americans have gotten popped. But again, I don't think.
- 56:38Yeah, I don't know what to think.
- 56:40It's so one. Feels, yeah, I don't know, Kenya
- 56:44just feels like it's a bit more systemic than other places where
- 56:48maybe it's like pockets of culture rather than the norm.
- 56:53Whereas you can't feel but based.
- 56:54On the whole, the the number like you wouldn't target like I,
- 57:00I couldn't tell you a Ugandan athlete that's currently.
- 57:05Serving a dope. Doping ban or even an Ethiopian
- 57:08athlete. But I could tell you four or
- 57:10five Kenyan names that I'm familiar with based on times
- 57:15I've run or performances I've had that have served a doping
- 57:17ban recently. Yeah, almost like the.
- 57:21Federation encourages it, then it's like a regime, of course.
- 57:26Like everyone's doing it. Like, yeah, well, like we, we.
- 57:33Had with that guy that the other month didn't mean he was getting
- 57:35it off his bus driver or whatever it was or getting his
- 57:38bus driver to go and collect it for him.
- 57:40That's how accessible it is for a fiver in my way just.
- 57:47Taking broccoli stems like mugs and beetroot.
- 57:52Sitting in a sauna. Trying to get some bit of
- 57:55hemoglobin mass the old fashioned way I was actually
- 57:59chatting to. Someone the other day and they'd
- 58:02said that lots of their cycling mates, obviously they're not
- 58:06like competitive domestically or globally or anything like that.
- 58:09They're just casual cyclists. They're like they're.
- 58:12They're like middle. Aged fellas and they're all
- 58:15unlike tests and. Growth hormone and stuff like.
- 58:20This because they're just like, obviously they're not bound by
- 58:23anything and they're just enjoying being weirdos on the
- 58:28Pike. This is the middle-aged.
- 58:32Fellas in Perth, it's a slippery slope, Ryan.
- 58:36Yeah. So if you see me, start walking.
- 58:38Around like jacked up then start asking questions.
- 58:42We might have got a picture. Of that, didn't we?
- 58:44Oh yeah, big boy. Ryan.
- 58:49Past five. Nice.
- 58:51Training weeks. Supported by Gnomeo Owen, tell
- 58:55us what you've been up to. I think you've been doing the
- 58:57best training I don't know about.
- 58:59That anymore? Been a rough week for me.
- 59:03Started off with easy double on Monday so 60 minutes in the
- 59:07morning a 420 sevens and then 45 minutes in strides in the
- 59:13evening which does nearly 25 K day.
- 59:18Tuesday was sort of like one of my last.
- 59:23Also my last. Like sort of fast.
- 59:25Sessions gearing up pharma, so around 45 minutes on the
- 59:29treadmill in the morning, just really easy.
- 59:31And then in the evening I had five by AK off a 90 seconds rest
- 59:38and then I had like a few strides after autumn.
- 59:42For anyone who's not aware, it's been pretty shit weather over
- 59:47here recently. I know I don't mind about that
- 59:49enough, but yeah, it was shit. So windy, wet, and I was on that
- 59:53gravel track, my local gravel track solo.
- 59:58Can I come up? With any more.
- 59:59Excuses umm I don't know anyway I was hitting around like 256 is
- 1:00:05for days umm so yeah pretty happy with that off 90 seconds
- 1:00:10like they felt hard umm so. Sort of.
- 1:00:15Doubts. Like I'm able to like actually
- 1:00:17hold that faster than that. Like continuously Umm.
- 1:00:22But yeah, look God done take the box be plus session like.
- 1:00:27Conditions are rough. So at least I've done my favor.
- 1:00:31Wednesday morning I hopped on the elliptical for 60 minutes
- 1:00:35and then in the evening I done just a 35 minute jog and then I
- 1:00:41done my circuit class. Though.
- 1:00:47Felt. Really good.
- 1:00:49Up in the week up to there Thursday morning had on.
- 1:00:53The Cards 70. 5 minute run with like a 20 minute steady at the
- 1:00:57end. But when I woke up I felt like
- 1:01:01shit. So 5:00 in the morning, woke up,
- 1:01:03my throat was a bit sore and in my head I was like all right,
- 1:01:08I'll go back to bed for a little bit and I'll just do 30 minute
- 1:01:11run in the morning, bring all my running gear to work and then
- 1:01:14like do like 45 minutes at lunch.
- 1:01:16So 20 easy, 20 steady, 5 easy. So it's basically 75 minutes
- 1:01:21worth of work just broken up for umm yeah on three minute run.
- 1:01:25I felt so shit. So I got 6K in, but umm yeah,
- 1:01:29there was no point to me doing umm the rest of the workout with
- 1:01:34especially with like my last like big workout on Saturday.
- 1:01:38So umm, I. Was meant to do gym that eve.
- 1:01:41Then skipped gym just because it didn't feel great on them.
- 1:01:45Friday was a rest day anyway even though I wasn't fit to run,
- 1:01:48just lay in bed all day. But Saturday came along and I
- 1:01:53done my usual warm up on. The plan was to do 15 minute
- 1:01:57threshold and then it was 2 by 1 K at 5K race pace and then 3 by
- 1:02:04400 meters like 3K pace. And warmed up all right.
- 1:02:10Didn't feel too bad and then I don't the threshold like this.
- 1:02:16This is so. Stupid by me.
- 1:02:17So listen up. I there was a big group using
- 1:02:21the inside lanes. So I was like, ah, you see
- 1:02:24YouTube videos of people run on the outside lanes.
- 1:02:26I'll just run the outside lanes. So I picked lane 7, put my watch
- 1:02:30lane 7 Grant ran around and I split my watch where I started.
- 1:02:37So normally if you're on the inside lane, 400 meters.
- 1:02:42So I split my watch, I look down, I see like an 85.
- 1:02:46I'm like what the fuck? This was that was way harder.
- 1:02:49And I keep on going. Meanwhile I look at my heart
- 1:02:52rate and like from the off my heart rate is like 170.
- 1:02:58So normally like. I'm chilling heart.
- 1:03:02Rate should arrive for the whole.
- 1:03:03Run. I think my heart rate averaged
- 1:03:04like 175 and I kept on getting slower and slower and slower and
- 1:03:10then I was literally lying in bed Saturday night and I.
- 1:03:15I stood. Up and I was like I was running
- 1:03:18400 and I was splitting my watch every 440 meters.
- 1:03:21It's no wonder my paces were so fucking off I was like I
- 1:03:25literally text my coach. I was like I'm an idiot and boss
- 1:03:30yeah so the pace is like my first split was like a three O
- 1:03:337, which umm which normally what I do that threshold ash, but my
- 1:03:39perceived effort was true to roof and it didn't help that I
- 1:03:42was expecting to see like a 76 or something and I was seeing
- 1:03:46like 84 at the end of it. I was running like 90 seconds
- 1:03:50and I thought, yeah, I'm such an idiot.
- 1:03:55No only. Are you 1?
- 1:03:57Well, and so your body is not feeling well, you then getting
- 1:04:00this awful reinforcement of like the times are so.
- 1:04:04Far out it just. Actually doesn't make any sense.
- 1:04:07No, and like I was. Pushing hard and I sweating like
- 1:04:10a. Pig as well.
- 1:04:11And it was cold, like it wasn't a warm day.
- 1:04:15It was just everything was going on.
- 1:04:17And so I called the session. I was like, look, there's no
- 1:04:19point. Then I was jogging around, so
- 1:04:23around this tractors, like sort of a gravel loop and umm, my
- 1:04:27track, my fucking watch was still in track mode.
- 1:04:32So I was running like 7 minute kilometers on the trail and I
- 1:04:35was like what is happening? I didn't know.
- 1:04:40I was like, what? I'm really, I feel like I'm
- 1:04:42moving well, like mechanically I feel like I'm moving.
- 1:04:44Well, but it's just like, I don't know how I'm running, so I
- 1:04:47never run a 7 minute kilometer. I was like, what's happening?
- 1:04:51And. Then I stopped and I realized I
- 1:04:54was on freaking track mode, and then I just had enough and yeah.
- 1:04:59Is is that? What's caused you to be ill,
- 1:05:02Mentally ill on the back of that?
- 1:05:05I don't. Know I don't know it.
- 1:05:07Just wasn't a good day in the office.
- 1:05:09And I was meant to run that evening.
- 1:05:12I didn't bother. Yesterday is meant to a long
- 1:05:15run. Didn't bother.
- 1:05:16And I'm still it's all like congestion in my head.
- 1:05:21The putting aside. The mishaps, the decision to
- 1:05:25just pull the work out and to not do your long run.
- 1:05:27Like because I think sometimes you still want to, you don't
- 1:05:31want to tape it yet for the race and you want to keep your
- 1:05:33fitness load up, like at least listening to your body.
- 1:05:35That sounds like great choices. Yeah, but especially because.
- 1:05:39So as I am on Thursday and then two weeks after, I've got, like,
- 1:05:43the national indoors. So like, it makes no sense.
- 1:05:45Like pulling it right back this early, but like, I sort of no
- 1:05:48choice. And like, I'm definitely
- 1:05:50fighting something, even though, like, I checked my hair every
- 1:05:53morning and my heart rate's normal.
- 1:05:54Like, my energy levels are actually all right.
- 1:05:56It's just my fault. Like, I'm just congested and my
- 1:06:00sinuses are. Yeah.
- 1:06:02I don't know. So you get on top of it and
- 1:06:05it's. Just a head cold in two or three
- 1:06:07days, it's hopefully fine. Whereas if you push through, it
- 1:06:10gets into your chest and then it turns into two or three weeks.
- 1:06:13Like, yeah, so I'm going to. Sometimes, like hopefully I'm
- 1:06:18through the worst of it. So I'll jog tonight and see how
- 1:06:21my heart rate is because you can tell so much from the heart
- 1:06:23rate. And if it's true to if I'm an
- 1:06:25easy run, I'm just, I won't run until, well, I might do armor,
- 1:06:29armor there might be no point. And so we'll see.
- 1:06:33What happens? For Sam, yeah, I think around 77
- 1:06:37K that week, last week. So yeah, we'll you'll see
- 1:06:43whether or not I were on Thursday.
- 1:06:45But at the moment if I if I was like feeling the way I am now, I
- 1:06:48won't be running out of that way.
- 1:06:51I was just going to ask. Do you track HIV or anything
- 1:06:59like that? You know, like in terms of you
- 1:07:02mentioned. Rest right?
- 1:07:03In your morning, I do H. RVI think.
- 1:07:06HRV is like your average resting heart rate, yeah.
- 1:07:11And the variability. In it just to, to like when your
- 1:07:14body's under I think a lot of stress, there's no the HRV score
- 1:07:20reduces I think because it's the function of of stress and
- 1:07:24whereas I think there's meant to be some natural variability when
- 1:07:27your body's relaxed so that's. Why, when you taper your heart
- 1:07:32rate straight the week previous, like your heart rate isn't as
- 1:07:34high, so your HRV will be naturally lower.
- 1:07:39Umm, but yeah, so mine, mine's in the middle.
- 1:07:42Like, it's all right at the moment, which is another reason
- 1:07:44why like, I'm just going to try and jog tonight.
- 1:07:47Umm, but yeah, so I was like, I'm sleeping well, like my HIV
- 1:07:51is good. My, my resting heart rate's
- 1:07:53good. Umm, yeah, I really don't know.
- 1:07:55It came out of nowhere. Umm, I think, I don't know, like
- 1:07:58an excel course in work on the on the Tuesday and I was just in
- 1:08:03a room where like shit air con for like all day with like 13
- 1:08:07other people. So that probably could have been
- 1:08:09where I picked up something. Umm, but yeah, what can you do?
- 1:08:14These things happen can all be. Freaks in the sheets like Ryan
- 1:08:19and I with Excel. Well, I'm.
- 1:08:23A freak in the sheets now. I'm pretty I'm an intermediate.
- 1:08:26I'm an. Intermediate you got all your
- 1:08:29short. Case.
- 1:08:29Going with your fast case, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 1:08:37I think Dean's just. A bit fired up on the back of
- 1:08:39his birthday weekend and. He's him getting the big snake.
- 1:08:46I was going. To say Aaron.
- 1:08:47What does in like a perfect world say you jog tonight, you
- 1:08:50feel fine? What does like Tuesday Wednesday
- 1:08:53look like then given the races on Thursday?
- 1:08:56Man literally just jogging. Strides.
- 1:08:58I won't change anything. Like realistically, the session
- 1:09:01on Saturday is literally just like confirming I'm fit and
- 1:09:04ready to go. And but like I like Iran 20 I
- 1:09:09ran with I ran 1427 solo in Navan at Christmas.
- 1:09:12Then I ran fast in Valencia. Like I know I'm fit and this is
- 1:09:17sort of a free hit. Like I think the boys were
- 1:09:19saying umm from fly carb like it's in that downhill course,
- 1:09:23like I don't. Really like I know you can.
- 1:09:25Count Rd. PBS but in my head like each
- 1:09:28road race is different so fair enough you're on that fast.
- 1:09:30I think it's more of an achievement if you're on the
- 1:09:32track, because track is like same for everyone.
- 1:09:35Umm, like I'd still count as APB, but this is just a free hit
- 1:09:38for me. Like there's way more chances to
- 1:09:40run fast in the summer. So if I was going, I just I just
- 1:09:44rolled the dice and go hard. Umm, so yeah, plan is still just
- 1:09:48to jog easy few strides. Umm, like an unfit.
- 1:09:52So just yeah, give it a give it a good bash.
- 1:09:56Love it. Roger that YouTube.
- 1:09:59Diaries. Has anyone got anything to
- 1:10:01think? It's becoming a popular segment
- 1:10:03in the world of podcasting. Seen it featured over on the
- 1:10:07Sweat Elite show. So Sharon is caring in the world
- 1:10:12of podcast. And I always say we shout out
- 1:10:14podcasts that we listen to and enjoy.
- 1:10:16So it's nice to see one of our segments making its way into
- 1:10:20another podcast. It'd be nice to see if the
- 1:10:23acknowledgement was passed back as well.
- 1:10:27Eh, right. Yeah, YouTube.
- 1:10:28Diaries I've so people might be very familiar with this guy.
- 1:10:32His name is Hugo Fry. He's pretty prominent on
- 1:10:36Instagram. He's sponsored by like precision
- 1:10:38feel nitration, very funny guy and but he's after going like
- 1:10:41all in on this like social media influencing and all this, he
- 1:10:44quit his day job and then to go along with it, he's like a
- 1:10:47pretty decent runner. So to just put some time
- 1:10:50interest perspective, at Christmas there he broke 15
- 1:10:53minutes for the first time. He ran like 1442 or something
- 1:10:58like that. And then he goes out and runs
- 1:11:01Valencia 10K and he breaks, he runs like 293637.
- 1:11:11So yeah, he just breaks the 15 minute time back-to-back again.
- 1:11:15He's run pretty fast in the marathon as well.
- 1:11:19Let me. Just get his.
- 1:11:20World Athletics up, is it like 216 or?
- 1:11:23217, something like that. I want to say 17, yeah. 217,
- 1:11:28yeah. Have you got him covered there?
- 1:11:31Knows he. Got you on the seconds.
- 1:11:33I just saw his Instagram. So I don't know, how did he just
- 1:11:36says 217? He's run, Yeah, 2/17/50.
- 1:11:41Five got it covered. However.
- 1:11:45That is in that CIM, which is not downhill, so yeah.
- 1:11:50And he runs. In the half he ran Barcelona
- 1:11:52last year, he ran 6551, which is umm, yeah, pretty rapid.
- 1:11:57He's done a few alters as well. He's just mad.
- 1:11:59But he's really, really, he's a really good watch.
- 1:12:02Like he's easy to listen to, very down to earth and shows a
- 1:12:06lot about what he eats nutrition wise and all that sort of stuff.
- 1:12:09And yeah, it's just interesting to see how good he can go.
- 1:12:13So he's running Barcelona now, and then he's doing Boston.
- 1:12:20Is that he's doing Boston or London one of the big ones?
- 1:12:25He's the. Guy who like.
- 1:12:26In the nicest possible way, genuinely, he doesn't look like
- 1:12:29an elite runner, does he? If you were to look at him, no,
- 1:12:32no. But he's fucking.
- 1:12:33He's God. He is God.
- 1:12:37Yes, I've seen him crop up. On a few like Rails, you know,
- 1:12:40on the timeline and stuff he's been doing maybe as he got his
- 1:12:43own podcast as well even no he. Goes beyond that emotional
- 1:12:47intelligence. 1A Good, but I think he's on it once a month or
- 1:12:50something like that. Umm.
- 1:12:53But yeah, he's just like. That guy living in London,
- 1:12:56always around. Battersea Park.
- 1:12:58Umm living the life basically yeah, a good watch as well.
- 1:13:02So he's only recently started YouTube.
- 1:13:04I think he's only two videos, but he's doing like a build umm,
- 1:13:07for his umm, half marathon marathon coming up.
- 1:13:10So, umm, yeah, give him, give him a watch, you guys.
- 1:13:14Yeah, I didn't. I didn't know about this one to
- 1:13:17be honest. Like I remember him on my
- 1:13:18Instagram reels but I didn't realize that he had a YouTube
- 1:13:22channel so. He does a good bit of cross
- 1:13:25training as well. He like he does a bit of
- 1:13:26swimming and all that sort of stuff.
- 1:13:28So like he's he's doing like a ridiculous high mileage and I
- 1:13:31don't think he poses all to to Strava.
- 1:13:36But yeah, no, he's a good watch and.
- 1:13:39You said he's lining. Up for Barcelona this weekend,
- 1:13:43yeah. Yeah.
- 1:13:44Yeah, which is annoying because we're trying.
- 1:13:46To find the fields for that, weren't we?
- 1:13:47But it doesn't seem like they've released any like formal elite
- 1:13:50fields. We know what we think and we
- 1:13:53know Jake Smith is lining up there.
- 1:13:56So be cool to follow him there, see how he gets on.
- 1:13:59Because based on his Strava and his Instagram, he seems like
- 1:14:02he's been training the house down.
- 1:14:04And I think he was open and saying over the past couple of
- 1:14:07months, like seeing everyone run fast times.
- 1:14:11I like Valencia and stuff. He was Itchingham rarings ago,
- 1:14:14so you know how he races. He'll be putting himself right
- 1:14:17in the mixer, Ben. Felton, his journal.
- 1:14:21For Barcelona he's gone for sub 65 so be interested to see how
- 1:14:25he goes as well. I wish they released like it's
- 1:14:28just typical running that for like Seville it's you have to
- 1:14:31like struggle to find that lead field and Barcelona you can't
- 1:14:34even find like 2 massive races like they should be like well
- 1:14:38publicized yeah stupid. There's probably a.
- 1:14:44Space there where some. Sort of centralised site where
- 1:14:47you could go and see. It would be nice.
- 1:14:52Yeah, 2, right? So on Seville, they have kindly
- 1:14:56released their fields and they're bloody big as well.
- 1:14:59So I'll try and just pick out a couple of names.
- 1:15:01But I think maybe importantly for us and listeners who follow
- 1:15:06Team Macau, so Ellis Cross, who is the the Brummy guy on there
- 1:15:12with the the nice Birmingham accent, similar to was it, is it
- 1:15:15Jack who had the Birmingham accent from Fly Carp?
- 1:15:22Jack Yeah. Keith follows Birmingham as
- 1:15:24well. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:15:26So. Ellis Cross sounds like him, but
- 1:15:28a little bit more exaggerated as well, but a bit more Jack
- 1:15:32reelish. And Sarah Aston from the female
- 1:15:37side of their team is also making her marathon debut.
- 1:15:40So no doubt there'll be a cool video to come on the back of
- 1:15:44that. We'll probably cover it in
- 1:15:45YouTube Diaries when that comes out.
- 1:15:48There's also a couple of Irish fellas listed here, Paul
- 1:15:50O'Donnell. Yeah, he's PB.
- 1:15:56Of 210. From New York last year and.
- 1:16:00New York isn't fast. Yeah, New York's not.
- 1:16:02Renowned for being rapid. Ryan Creech to 11 from Dublin.
- 1:16:07Yeah, yeah. Not a big one.
- 1:16:10Big name and Irish running and that's funny.
- 1:16:14Because I was. Trying to find like the British
- 1:16:15guys and looking for like United Kingdom or Great Britain as the
- 1:16:19nationality. And it's obviously in Spanish.
- 1:16:21So it says Reyno Unido. That must be like Great Britain
- 1:16:25and in Spanish. But there's also Jacob Allen,
- 1:16:29who must be making his debut as well because they've got his
- 1:16:31half PB 6243 listed in there. Ben Connor I think was.
- 1:16:37Down as a pacer. So yeah, I mean, Seville is.
- 1:16:41Renowned for being another one of those fast Spanish marathons.
- 1:16:45Like good weather, pretty much guaranteed, nice and cool flat.
- 1:16:50It's almost like the the little brother to Valencia.
- 1:16:53That's the impression I get of it.
- 1:16:56At least John Nash is. Running there.
- 1:16:58As well interest to see how he goes.
- 1:17:01Is it? Is he actually racing though?
- 1:17:04Not sure tonight. So it's sort of it's.
- 1:17:08It's an awkward. Position like if you does it
- 1:17:10mess up your build for London? Is it too close to London now or
- 1:17:13like probably between Valencia and London?
- 1:17:16I really want to do Seville. I mean, we, Ryan and I did.
- 1:17:21Maragami, which is the weekend before now, ahead of Ballarat
- 1:17:25last year, which Ballarat was the same day as London.
- 1:17:29You like it? Probably.
- 1:17:32Probably goes all right, you know, like.
- 1:17:35Half marathon Now test your half marathon fitness and then you
- 1:17:38have a lot of week and then you do your marathon.
- 1:17:41Specific. Stuff.
- 1:17:44Yeah, but this is a legit. Marathon.
- 1:17:47They're just listed with half marathon PBS because they
- 1:17:49haven't. Oh, apologies.
- 1:17:51Well, they're. Doing a marathon into a
- 1:17:52marathon. Yeah.
- 1:17:54Oh, sorry. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:56Wow, that's very tight. I've actually been to Seville
- 1:18:00have. You ever been over?
- 1:18:03No Lovely City. I went and watched Liverpool
- 1:18:08there. Well, I didn't didn't actually
- 1:18:10go to the game, but Liverpool were playing Seville at the
- 1:18:13time. It was 3 all.
- 1:18:15I think we might have been three and a lot end up drawing 3 all,
- 1:18:18so that was not fun. But yeah, lovely city.
- 1:18:24Few people. Yeah, next.
- 1:18:31On the women's side, is there anyone big?
- 1:18:34Lily. Partridge, she.
- 1:18:35Of Great Britain, she has APB at 2:25, which is bang up there
- 1:18:38amongst the British marathoners at the minute she.
- 1:18:42Ran Valencia as well, so yeah, it's it's.
- 1:18:46Getting towards that marathon season now, the spring marathons
- 1:18:49that will be Seville into Boston into London into, well, Ballarat
- 1:18:54will be going on there as well. For the Australian listeners,
- 1:18:58they've started to like drip feed.
- 1:19:00Their elite failed as well. I think, Tom, the console's had
- 1:19:04that one up. Yeah.
- 1:19:05Does does Alice cross? Break to 10 does he?
- 1:19:10I'm going to say no, but that would.
- 1:19:11Be a fantastic run. If he did, he's probably going.
- 1:19:14For that European. Standard 20930 and yeah I don't
- 1:19:21know either. Like he's been training the
- 1:19:22house then and he ran 1/2 the weekend and he looked so, so
- 1:19:26smooth. What, you're on 64 high or
- 1:19:28something? And he looked so smooth.
- 1:19:30So again, you're. Only halfway when?
- 1:19:33You're but still. The I think this marathon is
- 1:19:38good for those those sorts of things, like it's all the pace.
- 1:19:42Groups aren't going. Out it that 201 to 204 pace
- 1:19:45often, like there's normally a few European packs that are set
- 1:19:50around those European European qualifiers and those sorts of
- 1:19:53standards so I feel. Like if that's what the target?
- 1:19:56Is it's. These seem to line up well for
- 1:19:58those sorts of things and. It's pretty stacked around.
- 1:20:02That and like there's so many like 20820 nines 2 tens like
- 1:20:07he's going to put people around them yeah I think that I.
- 1:20:10Think people people are cottoning on to what races to do
- 1:20:14that's best for them at their level.
- 1:20:15I reckon there's a sound. Isn't.
- 1:20:19It there's an Jesus, there's a myth in the US called Sound in
- 1:20:23Vice over the upcoming weekend and that's kind of like the next
- 1:20:27in the series of these ridiculous American indoor meets
- 1:20:31that have been happening with like all the kind of top guys
- 1:20:34there. So there's a mile which is going
- 1:20:36to feature Cole Hocker, Cupatea Santana and Sam Ruth as well as
- 1:20:41Festus Lagat. So we can expect Jack antsy of
- 1:20:46Australia's actually made his way into the field as well.
- 1:20:49So that'll be cool to follow. We can expect some probably
- 1:20:53ridiculous things there. Like Cole Hawker.
- 1:20:56Well, Sam Ruth going head to Like the guy's 16?
- 1:21:01Years old. Imagine even just last year when
- 1:21:04he's probably sat there and what he would have been in year 10
- 1:21:08just cranking. Sessions out and.
- 1:21:10Dreaming like posters of Cole Hawker on his wall, almost.
- 1:21:13And now he's stood there in the start line against them.
- 1:21:18Genuinely competitive. Potentially.
- 1:21:22Yeah, and it's funny, right? Like didn't I think his dad was
- 1:21:25it? Ben was talking about how
- 1:21:28they're coming over to do 3 races and I think this first,
- 1:21:31the first one they did was meant to be a bit of like a rust
- 1:21:34Buster. They're like 3 days off, you
- 1:21:36know, travelling. Halfway.
- 1:21:37Around the world and he's come out and ripped that.
- 1:21:40So it's like, fuck, what are we? Where do we go with that?
- 1:21:43So. I don't know.
- 1:21:46Yeah, I think on the back of that.
- 1:21:47As well, they've they've announced that the pivoting I'm
- 1:21:50gonna do like maybe the last one's going to be a 3K or
- 1:21:53something instead of another mile because they've already
- 1:21:56banked the mile. That's the issue.
- 1:21:58Like, yeah. Yeah, you, you're trying to
- 1:22:00crescendo like what? Like what Cam did with his three
- 1:22:03races, you know how he built into them and you or even like
- 1:22:06what Cole Hawker did doing that lower key 2K into into the next
- 1:22:12race, like into the two mile. It was a clever way to do it.
- 1:22:18Lauren Ryan's in the. Female Mile, as well as Emily
- 1:22:22Mackay and a couple of other American ladies.
- 1:22:25And then there's a 5K which has got Drew, Hunter, Scott BC.
- 1:22:31That's. Probably about it in.
- 1:22:33Terms of relevance to me. But yeah, that's.
- 1:22:38Another cool. One to follow and.
- 1:22:41Then lastly. There's another races Opeth
- 1:22:43track classic. Jeez, just about 3 or 4 miles up
- 1:22:47the road, they've released the fields this morning I think it
- 1:22:51was. So being headlined essentially
- 1:22:54from like the middle distance races by Pete Ball in the 800
- 1:22:58meters there's. Also, there's a British.
- 1:23:01Guy listed in there which is like quite random.
- 1:23:04Do you remember the name Tianan Kroken?
- 1:23:07And he like he ran the auto qualifier for Tokyo last year.
- 1:23:13Can't remember if he ends up going or not.
- 1:23:15I think he went and then he went out in the heat and next to his
- 1:23:19name is listed Victoria as like the club or the area, which is
- 1:23:24random. But he's got a UK flag next to
- 1:23:27him so he'll be on the 800 missed start line against people
- 1:23:30in Perth. Was he?
- 1:23:32Working in Asda or? Something like that.
- 1:23:35Yeah, I think that is the guy. Yeah.
- 1:23:39So must be. Moved over there.
- 1:23:40Yeah, go. 144, yeah. Look, boys, people.
- 1:23:45Him a couple of Japanese guys which I'm assuming are coming
- 1:23:49over as part of the MTC crew contingent.
- 1:23:54And then in the. Women's 1500 meters is the other
- 1:23:57like middle distance race, Abby Caldwell's kind of headline.
- 1:24:00And that one, you've got Jayla Hancock, Cameron in there as
- 1:24:03well. And then there's a men's 5000
- 1:24:05meters, which is basically whoa. There's an Irish girl on that
- 1:24:09as. Well, Laura Nicholson.
- 1:24:11Oh, yeah. Sorry.
- 1:24:12You know. Or no other?
- 1:24:14No other. Yeah, 407.
- 1:24:17But I'd be Caldwell, like she's just so far her and that Tanaka,
- 1:24:20it's good getting her over there.
- 1:24:21I'm trying to get her on the pod.
- 1:24:27I wonder. If she was the one when I ran
- 1:24:31with MTC that one time there was a Japanese lady there and she
- 1:24:35was getting dropped. It's not like you're.
- 1:24:38One that does all the diamond leads.
- 1:24:40Yeah, that's. An arc is, yeah.
- 1:24:42I don't think she I. Think she'd be?
- 1:24:44Dropping you run. No, we lost her in the Bush,
- 1:24:48everyone. Was concerned for her
- 1:24:49well-being. Oh shit on that.
- 1:24:52What is it the long run route to do?
- 1:24:58Can't even think you've got like 2.
- 1:24:59Names or something. Doesn't.
- 1:25:02It Jared flats? No.
- 1:25:04Yeah. That one.
- 1:25:07So is the the Irish girl. Is she based in Australia or
- 1:25:10she's just come over? I'm.
- 1:25:13Aware she wasn't based in. Australia, but I look right now.
- 1:25:17Yeah, I was trying to look back at the.
- 1:25:18The field from last year, because I was thinking shit, the
- 1:25:21fields last year were like amazing, but I think that was, I
- 1:25:23was getting mixed up with nationals, which were also held
- 1:25:26in fair, held in Perth. The Perth track Classic was
- 1:25:30similar, like kind of a couple of standout names in a couple of
- 1:25:34of events. But yeah, the fuck the men's 5.
- 1:25:371000, you see this, it's it's Battle of the West, the WA men
- 1:25:44because Matt Ramsden is returning to the track.
- 1:25:49Matt Smith, Tom. Moorcroft and Kieran Tibbles
- 1:25:52will be chasing them around, as well as John Harris, Jonah
- 1:25:55Hannah Canary and Liam Cashin question this.
- 1:26:01Is a bronze tour how? I don't mean how are them always
- 1:26:07getting in this race? Like if you try and get in a
- 1:26:10bronze store over here like you can't.
- 1:26:14It's called being geographically.
- 1:26:16Isolated. Come do it, I'll get you in.
- 1:26:21No, it's gone. Real.
- 1:26:21Together. Like you're, you're gonna have
- 1:26:23such a good chance to run fast. It's just, yeah, like, like for
- 1:26:27Kieran, like 1448 running a Tour bronze.
- 1:26:31There's probably a lot faster shape than that.
- 1:26:33But yeah, it's crazy. Well, yeah, The thing is, you,
- 1:26:37you're. Probably not going to get the
- 1:26:38chance to run quick because Rambo's probably just kind of
- 1:26:41fucking go off the front by himself.
- 1:26:44Is he a fit? Yeah.
- 1:26:47I feel like he. Hasn't.
- 1:26:48Raced in so long. Does Smitty push him lean
- 1:26:53cashing fit 14 low is. Different league to Ramsden,
- 1:27:00though, in it, or Ramsden's different league to that.
- 1:27:04Yeah, but when? Did Ramzan run 13?
- 1:27:0516 He was in Europe last year. And like he didn't run good
- 1:27:10compared to like other pros, but he would have been running like
- 1:27:13three 37338 maybe. Yeah, I think he's finished his.
- 1:27:191500 days as he he's moving up. Surely he's coach now.
- 1:27:24Chief Ram Oh, yeah. The coins make horns.
- 1:27:34Dean did. You want to speak about
- 1:27:35training? Or.
- 1:27:38Kendo, I can give a well like a quick synopsis is that yeah,
- 1:27:43yeah, where you're at because. We had the ghost in last week,
- 1:27:46didn't we? Yes.
- 1:27:48Well, I was late to the party. Was I, I think I missed that.
- 1:27:52Just usual. That was the first one on
- 1:27:57tonight actually. But.
- 1:28:01Yes. So.
- 1:28:03I. Didn't.
- 1:28:05Run as much this week. Got a scan last Friday and it's
- 1:28:09showing a little bit of a little.
- 1:28:12Bit of brightness on there. So I haven't seen sports doc
- 1:28:15yet, but just to be a bit safe decided to do a bit less
- 1:28:18running. The week just gone, things don't
- 1:28:21feel too bad so I wouldn't necessarily say it's alarm bells
- 1:28:25and I had been running quite a bit of late so didn't feel like
- 1:28:28the worst thing to do to back it off for a bit Which.
- 1:28:32Was a good opportunity to get. On the bike a lot which was fun
- 1:28:36so I can't remember I should have it in front of me, but
- 1:28:40between the spin bike and the actual bike I think I would have
- 1:28:43done the equivalent of about. Oh, I don't want to get this too
- 1:28:47far wrong. Yeah, Tony was.
- 1:28:49On on the indoor. Bike.
- 1:28:51And I was like, how the hell are you like entertaining that?
- 1:28:55Because he said for 100 minutes as well, like over an hour and a
- 1:28:58half. And tell them how you're passing
- 1:29:01time. You're a dickhead.
- 1:29:07Have you played the? Game.
- 1:29:09Have you played the game Settlers of Qatar?
- 1:29:12No. Well, it's.
- 1:29:13A riot. Obviously, so I was playing that
- 1:29:18so. It's an opportunity one in
- 1:29:20Washington. Wait, this is a good game?
- 1:29:22How do? You How did you play this on the
- 1:29:24bike? No, there's an.
- 1:29:26On your phone. Yeah, there's an app called.
- 1:29:28Colonists and you can compete across the world and I've been
- 1:29:32grafting my way up to a competitive, competitive Aussie
- 1:29:37rank. I need to be ranked in something
- 1:29:41that's now they think that's good, Thomas.
- 1:29:42Tage just plays hours of sudoku, which are no is that no
- 1:29:46solitaire against himself? Hours of solitaire on that.
- 1:29:50This is against the World Wide Web.
- 1:29:52You know, this is against other people out there fighting for my
- 1:29:56SO yes. So I play quite a few games and
- 1:29:58that turns out now around 50 minutes goes very fast.
- 1:30:01So anyway, between that and then I rode on the road 230 KS last
- 1:30:07week and I ran say 20 on so decent amount of cardio leaks
- 1:30:12things don't feel too bad. So yeah, hopefully.
- 1:30:16I should be able to get in. A bit more running, but I'll see
- 1:30:18the Sport Stock on Friday, make sure I'm safe to keep blowing it
- 1:30:22up, but in the interim I'll balance a bit of running, a bit
- 1:30:26of riding. Hey, good and a bit of gym run.
- 1:30:33A bit of gym, yeah. Good segue into your training
- 1:30:36week. Yeah.
- 1:30:37Thanks SO. I started my week last week with
- 1:30:40a bit of gym. Now quick overview of my week.
- 1:30:46I think I read 350 KS and ran every other day, but that
- 1:30:50started on a Tuesday. So it was only three runs this
- 1:30:54week. But they're up to 50 minutes now
- 1:30:56and they're starting to feel like the runs feel fine.
- 1:31:00And my thought is starting to feel like somewhat fine with it.
- 1:31:04So I was consulting my doctor. ChatGPT.
- 1:31:09It might sound bored conscious that he always just tells me
- 1:31:12what I want to hear, which is dangerous.
- 1:31:13So I have to like cross reference some of his answers
- 1:31:17sometime. Be like he sure you're not just
- 1:31:19tell me what I want to hear Anyway.
- 1:31:22So I think just doing this every other day now is pretty
- 1:31:27pointless because I'm up to 50 minutes.
- 1:31:30I need to start layering in some more frequency.
- 1:31:33So the plan this week will be to try a couple of back-to-back
- 1:31:37days. Just try.
- 1:31:39And inch. Towards that more normal running
- 1:31:42routine, get back up towards 5-6 days a week and see what.
- 1:31:46We can do with that. Because I don't know, I have
- 1:31:50half an eye of trying to do something in like, April, even
- 1:31:55if I'm not. I know it won't be fit, but just
- 1:31:58fucking get back in the mix and feel it all out again.
- 1:32:02Yeah. And like, jump straight into the
- 1:32:04marathon. Or work your way up to the
- 1:32:06marathon now, remember. That the bridge is 10K that Dean
- 1:32:11done last year and won. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:15Because it's literally on the. Doorstep.
- 1:32:17It was painful to watch that race go by last year.
- 1:32:21So like as long? As.
- 1:32:23I can get clearance that I'm not physically going to hurt my heel
- 1:32:27by running a demoralizing whatever the time would be, then
- 1:32:32whatever shape I'm in, I would love to do it just to race
- 1:32:36again. You don't.
- 1:32:38Want to just get? Comfortable doing some training
- 1:32:40first. Well.
- 1:32:43I could, but that would be. Disparaging.
- 1:32:47Yeah, it would, but I'm. Also, I'm not too, I'm not too
- 1:32:52too precious or too proud to like not put a time on the board
- 1:32:57that is a little shy. Like, I'll happily go out there
- 1:33:00and just run whatever comes out of it because I've just missed
- 1:33:03racing so much. But yeah, I don't want to.
- 1:33:07I can't be doing anything that would be silly for my body.
- 1:33:09So. But yeah, you'd.
- 1:33:11Want to at least be doing some threshold?
- 1:33:16Yeah. So yeah, the the check boxes or
- 1:33:20gases I need to be running be able to run six days a week and
- 1:33:24also be doing sessions as part of that week prior to thinking
- 1:33:29about racing. So we shall see.
- 1:33:30It's 8 weeks away, going to try and inch towards it otherwise.
- 1:33:36On one of my rides this week it was actually on on my birthday
- 1:33:39morning. I was riding out along the swan
- 1:33:42I seen a girl had literally shit herself.
- 1:33:48How did you it? Could have just been she could
- 1:33:51have just sat on some chocolate and then on a yoga pants for a
- 1:33:55yoga class. She.
- 1:33:56Then. She was walking alongside the
- 1:33:59river in running a tire and like holding her stomach like this
- 1:34:03and it was like all down her legs and I was just going past
- 1:34:06like. And then I spent the rest of
- 1:34:10the. Ride just thinking like what?
- 1:34:12What would you do if that was you?
- 1:34:14Like it was commute hour as well.
- 1:34:16It's on like the busy Rd. there, isn't it?
- 1:34:18Cars are just flying past and she's just what?
- 1:34:20Like she's so isolated she can't go anywhere.
- 1:34:24Like what the hell do you do? She's covered in shit.
- 1:34:27Jump in the river. Literally.
- 1:34:32Did you offer that? My worst.
- 1:34:33Time. Get her a towel.
- 1:34:35Or something. I don't know, I just.
- 1:34:39Ashamedly just cycled off like you should lock your top and
- 1:34:43give. It to her let her tied around
- 1:34:45her waist. Chivalry.
- 1:34:47Yeah, it's dead. Got the red girls.
- 1:34:50Yeah, it comes. Did you, I didn't.
- 1:34:57Given that you've been happy to share about you, did you share
- 1:35:00about was it? Was it this sort of image that
- 1:35:03you now that you've been riding a bit more, you got that extra?
- 1:35:07Mass, don't you? Run that the one that.
- 1:35:09Went in the group chat. Well, now.
- 1:35:12Wasn't. There a bit of.
- 1:35:13Chat didn't didn't Becky mention oh she was trying to bag?
- 1:35:17Me out to you and people at the mail wasn't she that I would
- 1:35:20like flex in the mirror and stuff, but apparently I.
- 1:35:24Think, I think we all. Do a bit of that, don't we?
- 1:35:27And I think. So.
- 1:35:30No, that's just you. Ryan.
- 1:35:36That's. Going to be on Patreon for.
- 1:35:44She's. Just trying to do me.
- 1:35:45Dirty, but yeah, that nothing else to report on the week.
- 1:35:51So this week I'm just going to try and run about four times
- 1:35:55couple of backs of backs and then see how we get on.
- 1:35:58Basically Chat GPTS tell me stop being so fearful.
- 1:36:00I need to break away from the mold of every other day.
- 1:36:04Sorry, Steve. Or chat.
- 1:36:05JBT Well, Steve's. Almost discharged me now.
- 1:36:08We didn't even book a follow up and I think he's like, mate,
- 1:36:11I've got you up to an hour. Be free.
- 1:36:14When do you start putting? Sessions.
- 1:36:16In. After the frequency.
- 1:36:19Is back as in like once I'm running 6 * a week, an hour or
- 1:36:23whatever it might be, then you can do intensity, which would be
- 1:36:28on the graphs and well, strides needs to come before any
- 1:36:31intensity, so there's kind. Of clash to jump through.
- 1:36:36Start to. Think about.
- 1:36:37How it might look at least. That's good.
- 1:36:42That's what you want. But yeah, any anyone.
- 1:36:45Looking to break 40 minutes of bridges.
- 1:36:48I might be a scalp up for grabs. Double trouble, do you know, I
- 1:36:53think. You've put something on the
- 1:36:55agenda, Yeah, we've spoken about.
- 1:36:57This before. But about certain course
- 1:37:00certification of obviously we've spoken about and I might get
- 1:37:04them slightly wrong, but OMITU is that.
- 1:37:08The official. Marathon something come to chip
- 1:37:11time page and like the fantastic work they do in the community
- 1:37:17and, you know, making sure that people's times are respected.
- 1:37:21And my gripe? So we have so Perth, there's a
- 1:37:25race down around the geograph Bay, around the wine region
- 1:37:30South of Perth, about 3 hours South of Perth in a town called
- 1:37:33Busselton there's. A5.
- 1:37:36K10K21K and more in more recent times a marathon event and this
- 1:37:41event is not a heap of road running events this time of year
- 1:37:45in Perth. A lot of it's just track races
- 1:37:48and it's very limited quality racing and because it's South of
- 1:37:51Perth, because it's down South, it's cooler and so it's and it's
- 1:37:55along the foreshore and it's pretty close to being.
- 1:37:58Pancake. Flat, really nice event and they
- 1:38:02have a lot going for it and it's had a lot of people get behind
- 1:38:04it for a number of years and the race sells out within a few days
- 1:38:08of opening because it's quite popular.
- 1:38:11Yet despite all of these things going for it, they refused to
- 1:38:14certify the race and that upsets.
- 1:38:18Me because? You can see the guys.
- 1:38:21So a few guys we know. So for example, say Sota, he he
- 1:38:28posted his result on Strava and he ran just under 42.2 KS.
- 1:38:33And it's absolutely not a reflection on him.
- 1:38:35He's running the race. But like imagine all of the
- 1:38:39people that did the marathon and then you finish your marathon
- 1:38:43and then you don't see the marathon on your watch.
- 1:38:46Like you're just short of the marathon and it's like it's a
- 1:38:48few 100 meters like these. The the event is putting on a
- 1:38:52proper distances but they don't get it right.
- 1:38:57But how do we know the? Satellite.
- 1:38:59From the watch is enough and the marathon actually is correct
- 1:39:02because I've been. To this race that many.
- 1:39:04Times it had 9.9 something on my like they're just notoriously
- 1:39:09just that little bit short often.
- 1:39:13And if they did, and I've I've emailed the event in the past,
- 1:39:17offer to certify to organize certification or pay for
- 1:39:20certification that said no. And so like it's more a
- 1:39:23reflection of the event organizers than it is the
- 1:39:26capacity to have the race efficiently organized and
- 1:39:30consistently year on year, I see the same thing pop up.
- 1:39:33People go down to this race and at least one of the distances is
- 1:39:36noticeably short or not quite not quite full distance.
- 1:39:43Like and you know how they work. You know how those watchers
- 1:39:47read? They don't read, Sure.
- 1:39:49They always show. Show me.
- 1:39:51Show me an official where there's an officially distance
- 1:39:54race and it's red short and I'll show you 100.
- 1:39:57Going in the. Other way like it's very very
- 1:40:00rare whereas. You.
- 1:40:01Consistently can find short races for the 5/10/21 and full
- 1:40:06marathon down at this event. I think it's just such a shame
- 1:40:09because like, the e-mail that I got back when I asked them back
- 1:40:12in the day was that it wasn't for the benefit of all athletes,
- 1:40:14like certifying the race, but like, don't.
- 1:40:17You want. To when you finish the race.
- 1:40:19I've got a so a friend at work, he trained up for this marathon,
- 1:40:22ran 248 or something like that big or 247, ran a huge PB, like
- 1:40:26something he should be really proud of.
- 1:40:27But imagine you've done all that and you're just like 100 meters
- 1:40:30shy of the actual distance. Like fucks sake.
- 1:40:34So just tilt me. Well, The thing is as well.
- 1:40:36As as the runner, as the athletes, you'd be so conflicted
- 1:40:40because you're like, well, I haven't run a short race.
- 1:40:43The race is presented itself short.
- 1:40:45So you like do I've just ran APB but have a run APB.
- 1:40:50Like you wouldn't know how to feel about your own performance,
- 1:40:53which is bizarre. You like should be able to like
- 1:40:56proudly shout about your PB and be 100% clear on that.
- 1:41:01And the second part is then if you run APB, what was on a short
- 1:41:06course, that actually makes it harder for you to break that PB
- 1:41:11next time because you've actually got to run the full
- 1:41:13distance. Yeah.
- 1:41:16Yeah, I've stopped going going to it the last few years because
- 1:41:19I just struggled to reconcile logging yourself on a course
- 1:41:23that maybe you can't compare to other courses and Lyle and said
- 1:41:27like maybe it doesn't matter, all courses are slightly
- 1:41:29different rather there's all features to them.
- 1:41:31So probably just need to get over it, but just upsets me that
- 1:41:35they don't go to the trouble of certifying it because it's such
- 1:41:37a great event otherwise. Well, it seems like in some.
- 1:41:41Circles. It's perhaps widely known that
- 1:41:46the races are short and are not certified, but if you weren't
- 1:41:50Privy to that information. Otherwise you just go on see
- 1:41:54like 1/2 marathon or a 10K hot or a marathon in like a nice
- 1:41:58area. I think weekend away I'll go
- 1:42:00down, run that race, get myself a nice PB and you would you
- 1:42:04would potentially walk away from it all not knowing that your
- 1:42:06time. For like a major.
- 1:42:10Or anything. It's not going to count, Yeah.
- 1:42:13And that's what I emailed. Them saying like it'd be nice
- 1:42:15just for people trying to run qualifying things that you know,
- 1:42:19and because my there's so many races around Perth certified,
- 1:42:22which is really good. There's some wonderful people
- 1:42:24that do it for for local event. Organizers so.
- 1:42:28It's just such a shame that people don't get it for this
- 1:42:31one. And I just feel bad for all the
- 1:42:32people that may walk away after putting in all that hard work
- 1:42:36feeling a little bit, you know, empty.
- 1:42:39Hopefully they're not aware and they don't realize how much does
- 1:42:43it. Cost to enter.
- 1:42:44This race, like is there a good prize money at it?
- 1:42:47Like, where's the money going? No, not like not.
- 1:42:50I I don't know when I used to do is maybe like 250 bucks to win
- 1:42:54the half before that the marathon.
- 1:42:57So not about not much because it costs like eighty 100 bucks to
- 1:42:59enter. So and it sells out.
- 1:43:02So there's hundreds of it's there's not like it's a
- 1:43:04financial thing. I think a lot of it goes to the
- 1:43:06Bunbury Bustleton Runners Club, but I would say it would be
- 1:43:10they'd be very cash flow positive because like.
- 1:43:15It's a pretty flat course, isn't it?
- 1:43:17Like you, if actually was certified, you could run pretty
- 1:43:19fast down there. Oh shit, yeah.
- 1:43:22Yeah, it's great. Like that's.
- 1:43:25I know, just certify. That's why I Madam, I know it.
- 1:43:29Tilts me so hard. It's so stupid.
- 1:43:32And. I like literally, it's not hard
- 1:43:34for them to do. I can see it in the future.
- 1:43:37The easy. Double bustleton.
- 1:43:39Yeah, we just create our own. And I think simpler.
- 1:43:46And it's on footpath. It's not.
- 1:43:47It's not like they're closing a heap of roads and it's very
- 1:43:49expensive. Anyway, thanks for piping up for
- 1:43:57your. Double trouble.
- 1:43:59First one in a while. Yeah, usually.
- 1:44:01Sits on the fans, don't they? Gotta really get him.
- 1:44:07Got him this weekend. Maybe we'll we could start
- 1:44:10working in partnership with them to get them fired up even more.
- 1:44:14Forward you the e-mail. If you can, you slide into their
- 1:44:18DMS. They're on Instagram, right?
- 1:44:21I'm only good at making. Relationships, not breaking
- 1:44:24them. Put that one behind the pie
- 1:44:31wall. A few.
- 1:44:33Episodes on that. Speaking of which.
- 1:44:35I did have a double trouble myself and so he was going to
- 1:44:39say he had a protein. Shake.
- 1:44:42I didn't know unfortunately. We don't have any of them.
- 1:44:46The double trouble I had was, again, people might be unaware
- 1:44:51that there's kind of like unwritten rules.
- 1:44:53Or well, for the pros, there's certainly written rules around
- 1:44:56what you can and can't wear if you're doing a track race.
- 1:45:00And. My personal integrity wouldn't
- 1:45:03allow me to run a track race, or at least like a PB attempt in a
- 1:45:09pair of super shoes. That's.
- 1:45:11Just not for people. To be mindful of in the summer
- 1:45:14track season. Even.
- 1:45:19No, no, this is Yeah. Croaks quite shorts.
- 1:45:28Quite shorts. Fair play to him, my guy.
- 1:45:33Yeah. No, you got you.
- 1:45:34Yeah. Confident.
- 1:45:35If you if you have a very, very degree.
- 1:45:39Weather White. Shorts, you must be feeling,
- 1:45:42Yeah, happy with your place in life.
- 1:45:47He. He too.
- 1:45:48Has he been friends with those winters?
- 1:45:51Olympics. Anyone on the Winter Olympics?
- 1:45:53Programme, yeah, but look in defensive super shoes on the
- 1:46:00track. I've done it.
- 1:46:02In the post super. Shoot era, but I wouldn't be
- 1:46:05looking to claim my time. So like Coker Park, you know the
- 1:46:09John Gilmore, they let you, it's a 10K track race in Perth.
- 1:46:12They let you wear super shoes on that and I'll do it so as to
- 1:46:17stop my legs from getting matched up from 25 laps around
- 1:46:20the track. But yes, you wouldn't want to
- 1:46:24claim your time anywhere. You just do it for fitness.
- 1:46:27I mean, in fairness. Yeah, I would not fancy 25 laps
- 1:46:30in a pair of spikes. I don't think my body would hold
- 1:46:33up, to be honest. Yeah.
- 1:46:35Well, that that's me. Helping back on the fence, but
- 1:46:38now you you get stuck in right? Well, yeah.
- 1:46:41I wouldn't be. Wouldn't be doing it for middle
- 1:46:44to short distance, but. Say Lovey.
- 1:46:50Oh, I. Actually, I didn't even.
- 1:46:51Wear Spike. I didn't wear socks in my 1500
- 1:46:54meters. I was embrace it because I
- 1:46:55remember there's a clip of Jacob where it's like real runners
- 1:46:58don't wear socks with spikes or something.
- 1:47:00So for 1500 I was like, OK, it's not long enough to get blisters
- 1:47:03so I won't wear them. And it's actually nice.
- 1:47:06The air going in between your toes, it's actually really nice.
- 1:47:09I'd recommend that. Did I tell you?
- 1:47:12This has brought me on stuff a couple of times, doing silly
- 1:47:15things like this, but like, you know, rice take thumbs around
- 1:47:18you just searching for any sort of advantage you can find.
- 1:47:21And it was raining for the Gold Coast half.
- 1:47:24When was that 20? 20. 4 maybe it's pissing wet and
- 1:47:28I was like, I don't want my socks to weigh me down so I
- 1:47:30decided to not wear socks for that and I got the biggest
- 1:47:33blisters. Yeah, stupid.
- 1:47:37It's awful it. Couldn't run then.
- 1:47:38Light it's so dumb for like the socks are so thin anyway play
- 1:47:43waste of time. Did you get?
- 1:47:45A PB out of it. Yeah.
- 1:47:49Oh, there you go. Just thought.
- 1:47:53Yeah, but wouldn't recommend it for that would.
- 1:47:58Recommend it for the track that often.
- 1:47:59Don't wear socks on. Yeah, with track spikes.
- 1:48:03Yeah, that, Jacob. Video is a bit.
- 1:48:04Infamous, isn't it? I think it sticks in everyone's
- 1:48:06mind that because he was basically vilifying anyone who
- 1:48:09does wear socks. Like, for what?
- 1:48:11A Muppet Soft, Yeah. You don't want to be on the
- 1:48:15wrong side of the. Yacob the King.
- 1:48:20Like guys, I reckon that's. US.
- 1:48:25Good chat, Yeah, good one, not a.
- 1:48:28Long one I. Hope you get.
- 1:48:30Over the seven. Tears, boys.
- 1:48:33Praying yeah, I'll let you I'll let you know how you get on
- 1:48:36tonight with the jarg hopefully pirates under control and I can
- 1:48:39just yeah get but I feel better I'm on this nasal tablets it's
- 1:48:44basically doping for my nasals for my what's what is.

- 1:48:56hoping that clears them and them makes me breathe for my nose.
- 1:48:59Oh actually gets him like without nose tape.
- 1:49:03I just. Yeah, no.

- 1:49:14they. Have it at the chemist.
- 1:49:17Breaks right, It's gone against. Going against all my morals but
- 1:49:22yeah, might have to be done. Open up them Airways.
- 1:49:27Nomio if. Like.
- 1:49:29Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:49:33I. Reckon.
- 1:49:34Everyone's turned off by now, but I was thinking in in next
- 1:49:37week's episode at the end, the outro might be that the song the
- 1:49:41theme wrote composed for us. Any song.
- 1:49:45He's still no. The.
- 1:49:48The our theme tune the AI song. Yeah, that's good.
- 1:49:53Just to reward people who stayed till the end.

- 1:49:59Them and you run. All right.
