- 0:08Speaker 1: September is all but gone. There are now three months
- 0:11Speaker 1: to nail those New Year's resolutions. Or you could just
- 0:14Speaker 1: give yourself a break and remember that in a weekend
- 0:16Speaker 1: chock full of fabulous feats on football fields, there was
- 0:20Speaker 1: none more fabulous than a former mechanic from Erinsborough who
- 0:23Speaker 1: was just 18 months away from qualifying for her seniors card.
- 0:27Speaker 1: So maybe you're doing enough already. You're a no-dribble strap-in!
- 0:39Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:45Speaker 1: talk about netball. We talk about so much more. My
- 0:47Speaker 1: name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 0:49Speaker 2: I'm Liz Ellis.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I'm Gordie.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Back. Yay! Super Gordie is back.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Joining us today. I know.
- 0:55Speaker 3: So exciting. Our super sub. I feel like I have
- 0:58Speaker 3: missed you guys for some time.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:00Speaker 3: But the great thing is I get to listen.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Well, we're always thinking of you. Thanks for stepping in.
- 1:05Speaker 1: So Catherine is away again this week up in Queensland.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Doing something with investments or something very grown up, but
- 1:13Speaker 1: Gordie has stepped in to save the day for us.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Let's be honest, she's not doing anything with investments. It's Sarah,
- 1:19Speaker 4: if anyone's doing anything with investments.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:21Speaker 3: We know that.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Catherine just does as she's told.
- 1:25Speaker 1: But Liz, you're a way... Are there children being tortured
- 1:29Speaker 1: outside the room that you're in?
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yes. I don't know if you can hear. So obviously
- 1:32Speaker 2: I'm in a very salubrious accommodation here. I'm sitting, I'm
- 1:36Speaker 2: actually sitting in the equipment room at the Illawarra Netball Stadium.
- 1:40Speaker 2: So my daughter has been playing in the Regional Academies Challenge.
- 1:43Speaker 2: So basically all of the academies for around New South Wales,
- 1:46Speaker 2: which we talked about the Pathways Program last week. So
- 1:50Speaker 2: Once the kids play association level and go to state champs,
- 1:53Speaker 2: the next thing that they do when they hit that 15,
- 1:56Speaker 2: 16 age group is that they have regional academies. So
- 1:59Speaker 2: my daughter is in the North Coast Academy of Sport
- 2:02Speaker 2: and she is down here this weekend playing. And so they've,
- 2:07Speaker 2: you know, played Saturday, Sunday, Monday, lots of people who like,
- 2:12Speaker 2: it's just so funny, right? I come down here and
- 2:15Speaker 2: I love watching my girl play, but I also love
- 2:17Speaker 2: catching up with everybody. So Maria Lynch, who was my
- 2:20Speaker 2: under-19s coach, like she coached me 35 years ago. She's
- 2:23Speaker 2: here selecting Nadia Fitzgerald, who played for the Swifts, Sam May,
- 2:29Speaker 2: who played for the Swifts. They're all here working and selecting.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Julie Fitzgerald's here selecting. And I was sitting on the
- 2:34Speaker 2: sideline having a chat to Julie and she said to
- 2:36Speaker 2: me at one point, you need to go now because
- 2:38Speaker 2: I can't be seen selecting a team with one of
- 2:40Speaker 2: the mothers sitting next to me. And I was like, oh,
- 2:44Speaker 2: I guess I should probably, yeah, hop away while my
- 2:48Speaker 2: daughter's playing. So anyway, it's been a really great weekend.
- 2:51Speaker 2: It's my girl's 15th birthday today. And what better way
- 2:55Speaker 2: to celebrate your 15th birthday than playing netball in a
- 2:58Speaker 2: game this morning. She had a blinder, got a magnificent intercept,
- 3:03Speaker 2: off a tall goal attack on the baseline and drove
- 3:05Speaker 2: it down the court. And I'm like, that's the best
- 3:06Speaker 2: birthday present ever. So yeah, so I've been sitting here
- 3:10Speaker 2: all weekend or most of the weekend.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Do you get on it with the parents?
- 3:15Speaker 2: No, but I did say with Nat Sloan for a
- 3:18Speaker 2: couple of nights, she lives down here.
- 3:20Speaker 3: So Yeah, no.
- 3:22Speaker 2: No, we all don't stay together.
- 3:23Speaker 3: We should.
- 3:23Speaker 2: I think, well, yeah, anyway, I can't give away too much, Susan.
- 3:26Speaker 2: What goes on tour stays on tour. I'm trying to
- 3:29Speaker 2: dodge the question so I don't incriminate myself or any
- 3:31Speaker 2: of the other parents.
- 3:32Speaker 1: But you're not in your van anymore, are you?
- 3:35Speaker 2: No.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Like in your caravan.
- 3:37Speaker 2: No, no. We're staying like in just an Airbnb at
- 3:40Speaker 2: Austin Mere, which makes Austin happy.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Oh, and it's beautiful too, Austin.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It is beautiful down there. Have either of you.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Ever been involved with selections? Gordie, you would have for sure.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:50Speaker 1: So how does it work? If you've got several selectors there,
- 3:53Speaker 1: like is it just you hope that you all agree
- 3:56Speaker 1: and like obviously that would be the best outcome. But
- 3:59Speaker 1: if you don't all agree, what's the process?
- 4:03Speaker 4: Well, you would like to think, and I'm sure where
- 4:04Speaker 4: Liz is now, there's policies in place, selection policies in place.
- 4:07Speaker 4: So you govern by a selection policy and those policies
- 4:11Speaker 4: will define what how many selectors, whether you have to
- 4:14Speaker 4: be a particular level of coach or whatever. You can't
- 4:17Speaker 4: have alliances to anybody playing. If you do, you've got
- 4:20Speaker 4: to be able to declare them. And then the process
- 4:23Speaker 4: that you follow in order to ensure that selection.
- 4:25Speaker 3: Is as fair and equitable as possible.
- 4:27Speaker 4: And then the process for selection, which, and again, for
- 4:32Speaker 4: something like I think what is happening with Liz is
- 4:34Speaker 4: it's more a mass number, isn't it?
- 4:36Speaker 2: Yeah, they're talent IDing kids more than anything else to
- 4:39Speaker 2: take through to... the next sort of part of selection
- 4:43Speaker 2: for under-17s next year.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Yeah, so you're probably just mindful that you're balancing the
- 4:47Speaker 4: selection process with areas of the court, but.
- 4:50Speaker 3: It's when you get down to selecting like state teams.
- 4:52Speaker 4: And you've got a panel and it's interesting because the
- 4:55Speaker 4: role of the coach is an interesting one. Often I've
- 4:57Speaker 4: been on panels where the panels outvoted the coach on
- 5:01Speaker 4: a particular player and so you have to go into
- 5:03Speaker 4: a debate as to why that coach wants that player
- 5:07Speaker 4: and to be justified and, you know, Sometimes it lands
- 5:10Speaker 4: with the coach and sometimes it lands with the selection panel.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So generally there'd be two or three on a selection
- 5:16Speaker 1: panel plus the coach?
- 5:17Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 5:19Speaker 4: You try to have an odd number in case it
- 5:22Speaker 4: does go to a vote or you'll have a chair
- 5:25Speaker 4: of selectors that might have to guide that process a
- 5:28Speaker 4: little bit. But, yeah, for the beach part when you're
- 5:31Speaker 4: going into select for, in particular, that high level like
- 5:35Speaker 4: state team, you need to make sure, like I want
- 5:38Speaker 4: to know as a selector, like, What are we trying
- 5:40Speaker 4: to achieve? What are the goals of this selection? So
- 5:42Speaker 4: are we selecting for here and now? Are we selecting
- 5:44Speaker 4: for gold? Are we selecting for longer term vision? Is
- 5:47Speaker 4: there an area of the court that we're trying to develop?
- 5:49Speaker 4: So you have to have all of this set out
- 5:51Speaker 4: in front of you, which helps to find the goalposts
- 5:53Speaker 4: of your decision making as you go through the process.
- 5:56Speaker 4: But if you go in blinded to that, then every
- 5:58Speaker 4: selector could be sitting on a different lane when they're
- 6:02Speaker 4: trying to select, which is where discrepancy is coming to play.
- 6:05Speaker 2: And then if you don't agree, do you just take
- 6:07Speaker 2: it to the car park and see who wins the NUC?
- 6:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I have and I win every time, Liz.
- 6:12Speaker 2: No one's surprised at that, Cordy. Oh, that's really interesting. Thanks, Gordie.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I've got to say, it hasn't all been netball for
- 6:20Speaker 2: me this weekend. I went up to the preliminary final,
- 6:23Speaker 2: the NRL preliminary final last night.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Oh, you're so lucky.
- 6:27Speaker 3: What?
- 6:27Speaker 2: Well, I don't know. My son chews for the Panthers.
- 6:30Speaker 2: So we're all smiles at the start and a few
- 6:32Speaker 2: tears at the end. So when a 10-year-old boy is
- 6:35Speaker 2: really sort of invested, it's all or nothing. So bloody
- 6:39Speaker 2: great game though. Fantastic game of footy. And I haven't
- 6:43Speaker 2: I haven't been to an NRL game for a long time.
- 6:45Speaker 2: The game was fantastic. Most of the crowd were awesome,
- 6:48Speaker 2: except for the bloke behind me at the very end
- 6:50Speaker 2: who was cheering for Newcastle, which is fine. He hadn't
- 6:53Speaker 2: been obnoxious at all through the game. And then at
- 6:55Speaker 2: the end, they won and they threw his beer in
- 6:57Speaker 2: the air. So my son and I wore his beer.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So he then wore my wrath. He was left in
- 7:03Speaker 2: his own certain terms.
- 7:04Speaker 3: I can see as that beer went up, you opened
- 7:06Speaker 3: your mouth. I wish, right? I was the first.
- 7:09Speaker 2: What I should have said to him was, mate, you
- 7:10Speaker 2: wasted that beer. If you're going to throw it, throw
- 7:12Speaker 2: it straight into my mouth or give me the opportunity
- 7:15Speaker 2: to catch it. So anyway, it was amazing though. But
- 7:18Speaker 2: that injury to Nathan Cleary happened just in front of us. Oh,
- 7:21Speaker 2: I got my son's eyes and I'm like, oh, maybe
- 7:23Speaker 2: just look away now. But yeah, but isn't that interesting, right?
- 7:26Speaker 2: We were having this conversation this morning at breakfast about,
- 7:29Speaker 2: you know, what happens to that player who affected the
- 7:32Speaker 2: tackle and it broke someone else's leg and you know
- 7:35Speaker 2: does he get a slap on the wrist does he
- 7:36Speaker 2: miss the grand final and you know we saw one
- 7:39Speaker 2: of the Brisbane players that happened to him as well
- 7:40Speaker 2: last week and it's I'd hate to be on that
- 7:43Speaker 2: judiciary making that decision about you know or the tribunal
- 7:46Speaker 2: saying you know the effect was really bad it was
- 7:50Speaker 2: an illegal hip drop tackle but do you rub someone
- 7:53Speaker 2: out for the grand final because the horrific effect it
- 7:56Speaker 2: had or do you say well it wasn't and the
- 8:00Speaker 2: tackle was illegal, but it wasn't criminal, so we'll let
- 8:03Speaker 2: you play.
- 8:04Speaker 3: I don't know. It's a tough one, isn't it?
- 8:07Speaker 1: I think that decision-making in the heat of the moment,
- 8:12Speaker 1: and there is no real decision-making. It's instinct, isn't it?
- 8:15Speaker 1: But they are trained so well. And I think they
- 8:17Speaker 1: did the right thing in going, you've got to go.
- 8:19Speaker 1: But I felt really sorry for that guy because it's
- 8:21Speaker 1: like we've all made a bad decision from time to time,
- 8:23Speaker 1: but this was catastrophic. The impact of it was so bad.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And I was happy that the team... Like I thought
- 8:35Speaker 1: it was amazing that Newcastle managed to win with a
- 8:39Speaker 1: player down for 50 of the 80 minutes and to
- 8:42Speaker 1: come through and to see what it means for Newcastle.
- 8:46Speaker 1: But I just thought about that guy too and it's
- 8:48Speaker 1: like he's already carrying on his conscience that he has
- 8:51Speaker 1: caused this major injury on someone else. In what is
- 8:56Speaker 1: the decision that, you know, the game is grappling with
- 8:59Speaker 1: how do we interpret that action? Is that, you know,
- 9:02Speaker 1: even when you're looking at it, in review time and
- 9:04Speaker 1: time and time again, it's sort of not that clear
- 9:07Speaker 1: what exactly the right answer is. So I just, I
- 9:10Speaker 1: felt very happy for him that they went on to
- 9:13Speaker 1: win in spite of what had transpired as a result
- 9:18Speaker 1: of his actions.
- 9:19Speaker 3: I reckon what makes it worse though, and not that
- 9:21Speaker 3: it should, but it's who it happened to. You know
- 9:25Speaker 3: what I mean?
- 9:25Speaker 4: Like in the context of the game, it's probably the
- 9:28Speaker 4: most significant player on the field at the time, which
- 9:31Speaker 4: probably doubles everybody's thoughts, opinions, reactions, et cetera. Not that
- 9:36Speaker 4: it won't adjust the decision-making of anybody that's a referee
- 9:40Speaker 4: or whatever, but it makes the moment, I reckon, twice
- 9:44Speaker 4: as bad, which was similar to what happened in the
- 9:46Speaker 4: AFL grand final.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I haven't stopped crying even though I'm.
- 9:50Speaker 1: A weak one. Oh, I'm so sorry.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, Gordie.
- 9:52Speaker 3: It must have been like a big sort of.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Black cloud hanging over the west coast at the moment.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Is there? I said.
- 10:00Speaker 4: so I was trying to, yesterday I was trying to
- 10:03Speaker 4: get my head around how to sum up what I
- 10:06Speaker 4: thought was one of the greatest sporting spectacles I've seen
- 10:09Speaker 4: for some time. And for a Fremantle fan or, you know,
- 10:14Speaker 4: jumping ship to support a West Australian team.
- 10:17Speaker 3: It was brilliant and brutal. all in one.
- 10:21Speaker 4: Like, it was such a brilliant game of footy, brilliantly
- 10:25Speaker 4: played by Freo for such a long period of time,
- 10:28Speaker 4: and then just brutal in every aspect of the word,
- 10:31Speaker 4: unless you're a Brisbane fan.
- 10:33Speaker 3: So, but yeah, what a game. But started with, started, honestly,
- 10:37Speaker 3: I don't think I.
- 10:39Speaker 4: I knew how much I loved Kylie Minogue until I
- 10:43Speaker 4: realised how stupid I was going watching her pre-game. I
- 10:49Speaker 4: was possessed by it. You couldn't have turned the TV
- 10:52Speaker 4: louder up. We're down at our holiday house and we
- 10:54Speaker 4: had friends around and it was so loud and like
- 10:58Speaker 4: everyone was just going crazy.
- 11:00Speaker 3: We're just loving it.
- 11:01Speaker 4: And my brother was at the game and I had
- 11:02Speaker 4: a lot of friends at the game and they were
- 11:04Speaker 4: FaceTiming us live and sending us photos.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Everyone was just Kylie mad.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it was great, wasn't it? We were all united
- 11:12Speaker 1: by that. And what I loved was how she brought
- 11:14Speaker 1: it back to being a Melbourne girl and, you know,
- 11:19Speaker 1: she really made it personal and it looked like she
- 11:23Speaker 1: was enjoying it so much. It was just fantastic.
- 11:28Speaker 3: I couldn't believe it. G Flip was great. Everything was good.
- 11:31Speaker 3: So good. But, Gordie, here's a question.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Rank Kylie and Cher on the Sue Gordian rankings. Yeah,
- 11:39Speaker 2: that is difficult.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Why would you ask someone? This is like Sophie's choice.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I know.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Maybe it's like, you know, when people ask you if
- 11:48Speaker 2: you've got a favourite child or my kids say, have
- 11:50Speaker 2: you got a favourite? And I'm like, of course I've
- 11:52Speaker 2: got a favourite. It just changes each day.
- 11:54Speaker 3: It just changes. Do you know what? I can answer
- 11:56Speaker 3: that question. I can answer that question.
- 11:58Speaker 4: I think, like, Cher is iconic historically. You know, she
- 12:04Speaker 4: doesn't do as much now. But Kylie just reinvigorated the
- 12:07Speaker 4: bloody Kylie in you. Like, don't get me wrong, I
- 12:11Speaker 4: was scrolling online for Kylie merchandise. Like, I don't buy merchandise.
- 12:15Speaker 4: It's embarrassing.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Like, my behaviours, this is what Kylie did.
- 12:20Speaker 4: She... My behaviours were affected by Kylie Minogue.
- 12:25Speaker 3: It was crazy, isn't it? That's cool. I loved it.
- 12:26Speaker 3: She was really good.
- 12:27Speaker 4: I thought she was great and I love that she
- 12:29Speaker 4: loved the game and everywhere.
- 12:33Speaker 3: This is what I love about it, right?
- 12:35Speaker 4: Like she's so Aussie and even though she spent so
- 12:40Speaker 4: much time away, she absolutely highlights Australia in everything that
- 12:45Speaker 4: she does and in every media thing that she did
- 12:49Speaker 4: leading up to it, She highlighted the importance of Australia, home, Melbourne,
- 12:55Speaker 4: the fans.
- 12:56Speaker 3: I just love it.
- 12:56Speaker 4: And I know she knows how to do that, but
- 12:58Speaker 4: I just think there's a sincerity about it for her.
- 13:00Speaker 3: I just love it. It's cool.
- 13:02Speaker 1: It was so good. I was excited too that the
- 13:04Speaker 1: highest paid person on the football field was a woman.
- 13:07Speaker 1: $ 3 million, they reckon, if she got paid $ 150, 000 a
- 13:13Speaker 1: minute worth of work, which is pretty amazing. But we
- 13:16Speaker 1: were talking a few weeks ago about AFL salaries and
- 13:19Speaker 1: I had a lot to say. But interestingly, the top
- 13:21Speaker 1: 10 highest paid players in the AFL for 2026, none
- 13:25Speaker 1: of them were in that grand final. In fact, the
- 13:27Speaker 1: highest was Shea Bolton, who was an equal 14th, then
- 13:32Speaker 1: Lockie Neal, equal 22nd. That might be the last year
- 13:35Speaker 1: he's earning that. And Hugh McCluggage came in at 25th. So,
- 13:38Speaker 1: you know, it just goes to show that you don't
- 13:43Speaker 1: need the biggest, best players necessarily to be the best team. So,
- 13:48Speaker 1: you know, for Brisbane there to have two who are
- 13:53Speaker 1: in the top 25 highest paid players in the AFL
- 13:57Speaker 1: and have won three back-to-back, like, interesting.
- 14:01Speaker 4: Well, the irony of it is for Brisbane is they
- 14:03Speaker 4: might not have many in the top now.
- 14:06Speaker 3: But their list is still so young.
- 14:08Speaker 4: They've gone triple premiership and I would say it won't
- 14:13Speaker 4: be too long before, and this is what breaks clubs, right,
- 14:16Speaker 4: because players start to realise their value and they either
- 14:21Speaker 4: push their value inside the club, which then pushes others out,
- 14:25Speaker 4: or they leave to chase value. And that'll be interesting
- 14:29Speaker 4: for Brisbane as to how they will maintain that list
- 14:31Speaker 4: over a period of time because they you know, like
- 14:34Speaker 4: you play footy to win premierships, but you also play
- 14:37Speaker 4: to be inside a really good club. But at what
- 14:39Speaker 4: point do some of their absolute superstars go, I've won
- 14:43Speaker 4: three premierships. I've got a life after footy to consider.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yeah. Where's my dollar?
- 14:48Speaker 1: Yep.
- 14:49Speaker 3: A hundred percent.
- 14:49Speaker 2: And I've got a theory about grand finals that like
- 14:52Speaker 2: superstars are going to give you what they give you, right?
- 14:55Speaker 2: And every team's got a couple of superstars. Teams that
- 14:57Speaker 2: win grand finals are are the teams that can get
- 14:59Speaker 2: close to superstar performance from that next level down. And
- 15:02Speaker 2: I reckon that's the absolute key. Any team sport, superstar
- 15:06Speaker 2: is going to superstar. It's that next level that you
- 15:09Speaker 2: need to step up. And they're the ones that determine
- 15:10Speaker 2: whether you win a grand final or not.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Not the superstars. Couldn't agree more, Liz.
- 15:14Speaker 4: I reckon that's a really, I think that's such a
- 15:16Speaker 4: key point is that you pay superstars to do the
- 15:19Speaker 4: job when it matters most. So you almost, your expectation
- 15:23Speaker 4: is that that's what they deliver.
- 15:25Speaker 3: But what you're.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Genuinely looking for is the players that sit underneath or
- 15:31Speaker 4: even further down to have excelling performances under pressure at
- 15:36Speaker 4: the moment that matters most. So, you know, like if
- 15:39Speaker 4: they're getting 15 possessions a game and they can get
- 15:41Speaker 4: up to 21 possessions in an AFL grand final, those
- 15:44Speaker 4: six possessions are so important. So, or someone that can
- 15:48Speaker 4: kick a goal under pressure in a key moment that
- 15:51Speaker 4: might not necessarily do it. So yeah, that, I think
- 15:54Speaker 4: it's an interesting part of coaching that you learn or
- 15:56Speaker 4: as a player, like, and don't get me wrong, Liz,
- 15:59Speaker 4: like there would have been an expectation of you as
- 16:01Speaker 4: a player for you to perform, but there might've been
- 16:04Speaker 4: others in the diamonds at your time that maybe coaches
- 16:07Speaker 4: were sort of hoping needed to step up in key moments.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Yeah, look, and I reckon if I think about our
- 16:14Speaker 2: last Swiss team that won the grand final, the last
- 16:16Speaker 2: one I played in 2007, Like we had diamonds all
- 16:20Speaker 2: over the court, but the player who was probably most
- 16:22Speaker 2: important to us was Kim Smith, right? Who played wing
- 16:25Speaker 2: defence for us. And Ali Broadbent had retired. So Monia had,
- 16:29Speaker 2: Gerrard had moved into the goal defence position. And Selena
- 16:32Speaker 2: had moved from wing defence into centre. So we needed
- 16:35Speaker 2: someone in that position. And it's such, this will make
- 16:37Speaker 2: Carolyn so happy. Wing defence is such a key position
- 16:40Speaker 2: for your circle defenders. And we needed someone in there
- 16:44Speaker 2: who could absolutely step in and raise her bar. And
- 16:47Speaker 2: she did it. And she was the key. to us
- 16:49Speaker 2: winning that grand final that year because she just stepped
- 16:54Speaker 2: up her performance to better than she'd ever played before.
- 16:58Speaker 2: And the rest of like all the, you know, the
- 17:00Speaker 2: Diamonds players, we all did what we could do. But
- 17:02Speaker 2: you're not going to get the same sort of improvement
- 17:04Speaker 2: out of us as you get out of someone like her.
- 17:08Speaker 1: And interesting you were talking then, Gordie, about, you know,
- 17:10Speaker 1: kind of balancing, you know, who Brisbane has with the
- 17:13Speaker 1: salary cap and the like. Just a reminder that we
- 17:16Speaker 1: have plenty of superstars in Super Netball but they have
- 17:18Speaker 1: to have 10 of them in a salary cap of $ 890, 000.
- 17:20Speaker 1: There's not much room there to pay a superstar if
- 17:24Speaker 1: you've got to have nine other people. So anyway, we
- 17:28Speaker 1: have to have a little break but we're going to
- 17:29Speaker 1: come back and talk about some Netball superstars from around
- 17:32Speaker 1: the world. Music Okay, so there are now only two qualifiers.
- 17:52Speaker 1: We don't know who will be playing in the Netball
- 17:54Speaker 1: World Cup in Sydney here next year. We had some
- 17:56Speaker 1: amazing games over the weekend and we had qualifiers that
- 18:00Speaker 1: went on in Europe and in Africa. Is that that
- 18:05Speaker 1: Sting song? What's that song? Is it Toto? Europe and America. No,
- 18:10Speaker 1: it's America, isn't it? So netball qualifiers, so in the
- 18:14Speaker 1: order that they happened, we now have two extra qualifiers
- 18:18Speaker 1: coming out of Africa. So South Africa and Uganda were
- 18:21Speaker 1: obviously already qualified. But we have also coming in the playoff,
- 18:26Speaker 1: and this was the playoff for third place on the weekend,
- 18:29Speaker 1: Malawi defeated Namibia, and we will see both of those
- 18:32Speaker 1: countries here in Sydney next year, which is very exciting.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Yeah, really cool. I expected Malawi to be there. Namibia,
- 18:40Speaker 3: I've had a look at Namibia once before. And half decent,
- 18:44Speaker 3: but they've floated in and out over a period of time.
- 18:47Speaker 3: So it'll be interesting to see how they go.
- 18:49Speaker 4: But it's exciting to be able to say, oh, Namibia's
- 18:51Speaker 4: playing in the Netball World Cup and we just don't
- 18:53Speaker 4: sort of hear much of them.
- 18:54Speaker 3: So cool.
- 18:55Speaker 1: And in that playoff for third and fourth, Malawi beat
- 18:58Speaker 1: them 50 to 45. So it wasn't a walloping by
- 19:01Speaker 1: any means. Namibia were very competitive. So it wasn't sort
- 19:04Speaker 1: of kind of, oh, well, best of the rest type thing.
- 19:07Speaker 1: They have clearly stepped up their game over there.
- 19:10Speaker 3: It's good. It's exciting.
- 19:12Speaker 4: So it's now what they do between now and World Cup.
- 19:15Speaker 4: That's the interesting thing.
- 19:16Speaker 1: The other very exciting thing to come out of Africa
- 19:19Speaker 1: is Uganda beat South Africa in that final. So they
- 19:23Speaker 1: won 56 to 53. So I haven't seen that, but
- 19:27Speaker 1: that would have been an absolute blinder of a match
- 19:29Speaker 1: between those two.
- 19:30Speaker 3: Am I right, though, that there was a few missing? Well,
- 19:34Speaker 3: I'm sure you're right. Well, and Uganda.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Did Mary play for Uganda? Oh, I don't know.
- 19:42Speaker 4: I don't think she did. Anyhow, apologies if she did.
- 19:44Speaker 4: But yeah, I think there was a few out because
- 19:46Speaker 4: they'd qualified. But that was still, you know, don't get
- 19:48Speaker 4: me wrong, they're great opportunities for because there was a
- 19:50Speaker 4: few newbies named in the South African line.
- 19:54Speaker 3: So, but still, you know, it's pride on the line,
- 19:57Speaker 3: isn't it? You don't want to drop a game.
- 19:58Speaker 4: So that sets up brilliantly those, particularly South Africa and Uganda,
- 20:03Speaker 4: as it was at the Commonwealth Games, just trying to
- 20:06Speaker 4: knock each other off to move up the world rankings.
- 20:08Speaker 3: So it'll be interesting to see how they go come Sydney.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 2: And I reckon over the next 10 years, the African
- 20:14Speaker 2: nations are the ones who will absolutely have the biggest
- 20:17Speaker 2: movement in world rankings as well. There's just so much
- 20:20Speaker 2: talent that's untapped.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I agreed.
- 20:23Speaker 1: What I would like to see in the next 10
- 20:24Speaker 1: years is a few more European countries competing for the
- 20:28Speaker 1: two spots to come out of Europe. So we have
- 20:30Speaker 1: our qualifiers from there and Kath Tetley will be coming home,
- 20:33Speaker 1: leading the Scotland Thistles, coaching the Scotland Thistles in the
- 20:37Speaker 1: Netball World Cup. And they will be joined by.
- 20:41Speaker 3: the first time in a long time. Northern Ireland?
- 20:44Speaker 1: Northern Ireland.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:45Speaker 3: That's very exciting. I'm shocked.
- 20:48Speaker 2: I was shocked. That is shocking.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:49Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I was shocked.
- 20:51Speaker 4: So I only just sort of woke up this morning
- 20:52Speaker 4: and was scrolling and saw that because obviously we got
- 20:56Speaker 4: a bit of a first hand of them and Wales
- 20:58Speaker 4: because they beat Wales, didn't they?
- 20:59Speaker 3: Was that correct?
- 21:01Speaker 1: No, Scotland beat Northern Ireland and over the Republic of
- 21:05Speaker 1: Ireland and Wales. Sorry, I don't have those other games here.
- 21:08Speaker 1: I thought I had written that down, but yeah. So
- 21:11Speaker 1: who were you expecting, Gordie? You were expecting Scotland?
- 21:13Speaker 3: Oh, Wales. Wales, yeah. And Wales, yeah.
- 21:16Speaker 2: I think Wales have been the big improver in Europe
- 21:19Speaker 2: over the last few years, but Yeah, I.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Just sort of looked at what I saw at Comm Games.
- 21:26Speaker 4: I kind of expected that that might have been status
- 21:28Speaker 4: quo for qualifiers. But if you look and scroll through
- 21:33Speaker 4: the social media posts of the photos of Northern Ireland winning,
- 21:37Speaker 4: you can tell by the looks on their faces that
- 21:40Speaker 4: how bloody much that meant to them. Like, the fans
- 21:43Speaker 4: are going off. Like, it's cool. So it's huge for them.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Well done to their coaching staff, Shona and Jodie, and
- 21:51Speaker 4: out to even Carolyn O'Hanlon, who's the doctor.
- 21:55Speaker 3: We call her the doctor. So she runs the centre.
- 21:57Speaker 2: I think she's, I don't want to be rude, but
- 22:01Speaker 2: I reckon four Commonwealth Games, 38 maybe, but doctor by trade,
- 22:06Speaker 2: been around forever and a day. played nearly every minute
- 22:10Speaker 2: at the Commonwealth Games.
- 22:11Speaker 4: She's just the stalwart of Northern Ireland and there's this
- 22:14Speaker 4: great photo of disbelief on her face when they win.
- 22:17Speaker 3: So pretty cool.
- 22:19Speaker 1: So when you say, you said, I don't want to
- 22:20Speaker 1: be rude and then said all of these incredibly complimentary things,
- 22:24Speaker 1: are we just saying... She might be quite wise for
- 22:28Speaker 1: a player at the Netball World Cup.
- 22:30Speaker 3: What I was wondering about is whether I've undersold her.
- 22:32Speaker 3: She could have played five Commonwealth Games. I'm not sure.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Oh, that's amazing.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Great.
- 22:38Speaker 1: Well, we're looking forward to seeing that. And remember, we
- 22:40Speaker 1: all have to pick our second team, our third team,
- 22:42Speaker 1: our fourth team, and because they are playing for the
- 22:44Speaker 1: plate as well as the cup next year, so the
- 22:47Speaker 1: comp will be divided into two. So we've only got
- 22:49Speaker 1: the Americas to go now and that is at the
- 22:51Speaker 1: end of October, I think, and then we will know
- 22:53Speaker 1: all of the qualifiers for the Netball World Cup.
- 22:56Speaker 3: Okay, sorry, I'll just cut in.
- 22:58Speaker 4: So Carolyn represented Northern Ireland at World Cups in 2003,
- 23:02Speaker 4: 11 and 19. She competed at the Commonwealth Games in 2014,
- 23:07Speaker 4: 18 and 22. She plays with the Super League team.
- 23:12Speaker 4: She's played with Northumbria, Sirens, Manchester Thunder and of late
- 23:16Speaker 4: Leeds Rhino in the NSL.
- 23:18Speaker 3: And she was born in 1984.
- 23:21Speaker 2: And she's a doctor. 42.
- 23:23Speaker 3: I gave her five years. You did?
- 23:26Speaker 4: Wow.
- 23:26Speaker 3: She's a GP, doctor.
- 23:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:29Speaker 3: She's an overachiever.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Just a reminder, Kylie Minogue's 58. So whatever, it's just
- 23:33Speaker 1: a number. Do whatever the hell you want. Let's stop
- 23:36Speaker 1: being defined by what the number says. Oh, that's incredible.
- 23:41Speaker 1: So one of the things I did commit to last
- 23:43Speaker 1: week was chasing up the Netball World Cup team here
- 23:46Speaker 1: in Sydney and seeing what I could find out about
- 23:48Speaker 1: the volunteers positions. So they are currently still working through
- 23:53Speaker 1: the program, but they're very keen to have people applying
- 23:56Speaker 1: for volunteer positions. That will be before the end of
- 23:59Speaker 1: the year. So as more information, more detailed information comes
- 24:02Speaker 1: to hand, we will be talking about it here. But
- 24:06Speaker 1: nobody's missed anything. Nobody's required to do anything just yet.
- 24:09Speaker 1: There will be a call out for volunteers, but it
- 24:12Speaker 1: will be closer to the end of the year. So
- 24:14Speaker 1: which is coming at us like a bloody steam train.
- 24:17Speaker 1: But yeah, so nothing yet. Hold your horses, but there
- 24:22Speaker 1: will be a call out for volunteers. So what are
- 24:26Speaker 1: you doing? What am I doing?
- 24:28Speaker 3: Are you a volunteer?
- 24:31Speaker 1: Everything I do for netball is a bloody volunteer position.
- 24:36Speaker 1: We're in discussions with the Netball World Cup. How can
- 24:39Speaker 1: this podcast help? What are we going to be doing
- 24:42Speaker 1: out there? You know, we need to find out what
- 24:46Speaker 1: the rest of the No Dribble team are going to
- 24:48Speaker 1: be doing first and then we start to put the
- 24:50Speaker 1: bricks into place.
- 24:51Speaker 4: I reckon what they need to do is put as the–
- 24:54Speaker 4: so we need Patrick as a ball and a court wiper. Yep, yep.
- 24:59Speaker 3: We need you.
- 25:00Speaker 4: So we want people, every time someone runs out, they're iconic.
- 25:04Speaker 4: Like you're iconic in netball now for all the wrong reasons.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Oh, Gordie, that means so much.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I mean, for all the wrong reasons.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Listen, drinking gin is a critical part of our game.
- 25:14Speaker 1: If there's not the me's out there, then there can't
- 25:17Speaker 1: be the superstars on the court.
- 25:20Speaker 3: But that's what you want.
- 25:20Speaker 4: You want some iconic so that every time there's a
- 25:23Speaker 4: break in play, The crowd is entertained by the person
- 25:27Speaker 4: that runs out onto the court.
- 25:28Speaker 3: I reckon that would be brilliant. Not young kids running
- 25:30Speaker 3: out and going, this is an exciting time. Don't worry
- 25:32Speaker 3: about that, kids. Do something else.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Get Carolyn out on the court drinking gin.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Yeah, correct.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Leading.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Oh, it would be so funny. It would be so good.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Yeah, well, certainly we are deep in conversations at the moment.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Let's talk about the on-court superstars. Obviously we've been talking
- 25:53Speaker 1: about the great personalities and icons of the game. But
- 25:57Speaker 1: I would like to talk about Selby Tapaya Rickett who's
- 26:01Speaker 1: back in.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Tapaya Selby Rickett.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Sorry. Tapaya's. I've got it written down here in initials
- 26:09Speaker 1: and I'm going so and so and so.
- 26:13Speaker 2: Have you been drinking gin already? It's Monday lunchtime.
- 26:15Speaker 1: I have not.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Oh, my goodness.
- 26:16Speaker 1: It's my alcohol-free day, I'll have you know.
- 26:18Speaker 4: That's like introducing yourself as Swin-Caroline Dell.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Swin-Caroline Dell.
- 26:23Speaker 3: Sure, whatever.
- 26:24Speaker 2: I like that.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Look, that's close enough.
- 26:25Speaker 1: At least you've pronounced all of the syllables correctly there.
- 26:30Speaker 1: It's just in it. Look, anyway. So back in the fold.
- 26:35Speaker 2: To buy Selby Rickett?
- 26:37Speaker 3: Yes.
- 26:38Speaker 2: TPSR.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Yeah, back in the fold. So the Silver Ferns have
- 26:41Speaker 3: named their squad CONCAC.
- 26:43Speaker 4: Yep. And three, well, say returning faces. So Tapaya Selby-Rickett
- 26:47Speaker 4: called back in.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Are you just shutting off now? Yep.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Tapaya Selby-Rickett. I'm just going to keep saying it.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Tapaya Selby-Rickett.
- 26:53Speaker 2: I'm so sorry. Tapaya Selby-Rickett.
- 26:55Speaker 4: TPSR. And then Petr Tojova, a little wing attack mid-quarter
- 26:59Speaker 4: who has a brilliant connection at wing attack with Grace Wecky.
- 27:03Speaker 3: So called back in. She's a real fan favourite. She played.
- 27:07Speaker 4: I actually think she played this time last year, if
- 27:10Speaker 4: I recall, but I just thought she ran out a
- 27:13Speaker 4: bit of gas. And so when Australia had Wecky covered,
- 27:19Speaker 4: I think it was last year, forget me, it was
- 27:20Speaker 4: not long back, I didn't think she had a lot
- 27:23Speaker 4: more to offer from, you know, getting her way to
- 27:25Speaker 4: circle edge. So hopefully that shifts in her game to
- 27:28Speaker 4: give herself a credible chance at World Cup. And then
- 27:31Speaker 4: Paris Mason in, obviously, covering Catherine Hall, who's out with ACL.
- 27:36Speaker 3: Off the back of the Comm Games.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I think you'll find it's pronounced Maris Payson.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Maris Payson, yeah, Maris Payson, yeah. And Teta Poe over.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Teta Poe over.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Well, we know what jobs I won't be doing at
- 27:50Speaker 1: the Netball World Cup. Anything to do with saying of
- 27:54Speaker 1: the names. Yeah, so that's exciting. We're just a few
- 27:56Speaker 1: weeks away from that. Still a bit of exciting footy
- 27:59Speaker 1: to get past to fill in the time. But then
- 28:01Speaker 1: after that, we are back on international netball. All right,
- 28:05Speaker 1: we're going to take a little break now and come
- 28:06Speaker 1: back and talk about something that you, Gordie, will be
- 28:10Speaker 1: doing in a couple of weeks. Okay, Gordie, we're nearly
- 28:25Speaker 1: at October.
- 28:27Speaker 4: Talk us through how you're feeling. Yeah, I'll be honest
- 28:32Speaker 4: with you, I'm beside myself.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Okay, so you are doing a long bike ride. Sue
- 28:40Speaker 1: Gordian back in the saddle after a long time out
- 28:43Speaker 1: of it. Raising.
- 28:45Speaker 3: Yeah, back in the saddle, Carolyn. I was checking the
- 28:48Speaker 3: last time I was. on a bike, and it was
- 28:51Speaker 3: over 20 years ago.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Wow. Okay. And so you've decided in true Gordian fashion,
- 28:59Speaker 1: I'm not just going to do a 5K bike ride.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I haven't ridden a bike in 20 years. I want
- 29:04Speaker 1: to raise some money for a very good cause. I'm
- 29:08Speaker 1: going to ride? 200 kilometres.
- 29:11Speaker 3: 200 kilometres.
- 29:13Speaker 1: In how long?
- 29:14Speaker 3: Uh, in two days.
- 29:15Speaker 4: So that's a, and, and to be honest with you,
- 29:17Speaker 4: and I'm absolutely peeved by this. So my best mate,
- 29:21Speaker 4: Tracy Swami, former Tracy Pemberton, who played for the West
- 29:23Speaker 4: Coast Fever came down this weekend to stay with me
- 29:26Speaker 4: at Mandurah. And then just who, who sucked me into
- 29:28Speaker 4: doing this and then quietly informed me that day one,
- 29:32Speaker 4: which I thought was a hundred kilometers is actually 106 kilometers.
- 29:36Speaker 4: Now that might not seem a lot, but I know
- 29:39Speaker 4: when I reach the 100k mark and i think i'm
- 29:42Speaker 4: supposed to be finished and i've still got 6k to
- 29:44Speaker 4: ride yeah that is going to play with my head
- 29:47Speaker 4: on day one so but yeah but how.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Good day two you rock up and go it's just
- 29:52Speaker 1: a lazy 94.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Yeah, and then, no, no, it's 100km day two, so
- 29:56Speaker 3: I think it's 206km, roughly there and thereabouts.
- 29:59Speaker 1: That is outrageous. So where do you ride?
- 30:03Speaker 4: So we start in Perth in the city sort of
- 30:06Speaker 4: near the Swan River and then you take the ride
- 30:10Speaker 4: to Mandurah, which is about, well, it's 100km, so that's
- 30:14Speaker 4: about an hour drive. But we go out through the
- 30:17Speaker 4: back street, so we don't go along the coast. So
- 30:20Speaker 4: you go out through the back street. And then eventually
- 30:23Speaker 4: weave your way back into Mandurah on day one. And
- 30:26Speaker 4: then on day two, you come back more along the
- 30:28Speaker 4: coast and you finish back sort of at the same spot.
- 30:31Speaker 4: I think there's around about 2,000 riders. So they have
- 30:34Speaker 4: to cap it, I believe. And everyone's got to raise
- 30:37Speaker 4: a fairly substantial amount of money to actually get to
- 30:40Speaker 4: the start line.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Then you take off.
- 30:43Speaker 4: So we're riding, our group is called Lycra What You See.
- 30:48Speaker 4: And we've got about 45 riders in our group. And
- 30:51Speaker 4: we're currently the fifth largest fundraising group of the entire
- 30:57Speaker 4: thing for community riders, which.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Is really great.
- 31:00Speaker 4: And we are riding because our main rider has just
- 31:03Speaker 4: been diagnosed, which is quite sad. So he's a, Ryan,
- 31:06Speaker 4: he's a rider every year and I've never done it before,
- 31:09Speaker 4: but because it's down at Mandarin, this is where my
- 31:11Speaker 4: holiday house is, I often go and watch the finish
- 31:13Speaker 4: and I've been in awe year after year, people coming
- 31:16Speaker 4: in in the rain, the hail, the sunshine, whatever it
- 31:18Speaker 4: might be. And so I've agreed to do it. And
- 31:21Speaker 4: so everything, Carolyn, to give you a quick update, was going.
- 31:24Speaker 3: Really, really well. I was going very well on an
- 31:28Speaker 3: inside bike.
- 31:34Speaker 4: Right up right up until I got to Bali and
- 31:37Speaker 4: then um I had my accident in Bali which Coxie
- 31:40Speaker 4: shared with you last week yeah and I took the
- 31:42Speaker 4: top of my knee off and 14 stitches later so
- 31:45Speaker 4: I was slightly inhibited and then obviously unable to do
- 31:49Speaker 4: any training got back to Perth and then the very
- 31:53Speaker 4: Next day of getting back to Perth, I got up
- 31:55Speaker 4: early in the morning to cut the bushes and leant
- 31:57Speaker 4: over and popped a rib.
- 31:58Speaker 3: So it's been going really well.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Oh.
- 32:03Speaker 1: This is after you'd been to see the Governor of
- 32:06Speaker 1: Western Australia to collect your award. Congratulations.
- 32:09Speaker 3: It was the morning of that. Thank you. Yeah, no,
- 32:11Speaker 3: it was the morning.
- 32:12Speaker 1: Oh, it was the morning of that. So you were
- 32:15Speaker 1: probably ibuprofened up to the hilt.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Oh, yes.
- 32:21Speaker 4: So I had a long, lovely suit on which covered
- 32:24Speaker 4: my right mashed up shark eating me.
- 32:28Speaker 3: And then my left rib was giving me a good
- 32:31Speaker 3: what's for. So I was going really well.
- 32:33Speaker 4: But anyhow, that said, I have physically been on a
- 32:36Speaker 4: bike outside now a couple of times, clocking around about
- 32:40Speaker 4: 40K and going okay. I will honestly say for the
- 32:44Speaker 4: bike riders out there that there is nothing forgiving about
- 32:48Speaker 4: what goes on down there, honest to goodness. The seat
- 32:52Speaker 4: and your private parts are not supposed to spend that
- 32:55Speaker 4: much time together.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Have you got the special padded pants?
- 32:59Speaker 4: Yes.
- 33:00Speaker 1: And the gel seat.
- 33:00Speaker 3: I believe they call it a bib. You've got to
- 33:02Speaker 3: wear your bib or something. I don't know. There's something
- 33:04Speaker 3: like that.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Yes, we will get the– we've got the proper attire,
- 33:07Speaker 4: et cetera, et cetera. But, look, I'm really– I'm looking
- 33:11Speaker 4: forward to it, but I'm nervous.
- 33:14Speaker 3: It's not easy. And I think I'll get here. I'm
- 33:17Speaker 3: just worried about waking up the next day and getting back.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Yeah, you'll be right. I have complete confidence.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Yeah, first day you'll be fine, you won't feel it.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Then the second day you get on, you'll be like, oh, oh.
- 33:30Speaker 1: But tell Dribblers how we can support you. So we're
- 33:33Speaker 1: raising money here for cancer research and treatments.
- 33:37Speaker 4: So it's the Macca Cancer 200 and it's right for
- 33:41Speaker 4: the Perkins. Perkins is a research company that researches for
- 33:44Speaker 4: cancer and And this is a really famous ride here
- 33:48Speaker 4: in Perth. We probably have two major big fundraising, or
- 33:51Speaker 4: not fundraising, but events in Perth. One's the Rottnest Swim,
- 33:54Speaker 4: which everyone kind of knows about where you swim from
- 33:57Speaker 4: Cottesloe to Rott.
- 33:57Speaker 3: That's a personal thing.
- 33:58Speaker 4: But this one is a fundraising event, but it's really
- 34:02Speaker 4: well known.
- 34:04Speaker 3: The Macca Cancer 200 ride.
- 34:06Speaker 4: Maybe I'll pop the details in on the No Dribble
- 34:09Speaker 4: page if people want to.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Yeah, well, I'll put them in the show notes for
- 34:12Speaker 1: the podcast as well.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Great, thank you.
- 34:14Speaker 1: So we both just need to remember that. But please do, dribblers,
- 34:18Speaker 1: do please get behind Gordie's efforts here if you can.
- 34:22Speaker 1: Every little bit helps.
- 34:23Speaker 4: I'll do some live video and some fun on the
- 34:25Speaker 4: day just to keep everyone entertained if they can get
- 34:27Speaker 4: out and support me.
- 34:29Speaker 3: I'll show you me vomiting and all those sorts.
- 34:31Speaker 1: Awesome, awesome.
- 34:34Speaker 2: But keep your private parts to yourself.
- 34:35Speaker 1: We should have commissioned a no-dribble ice pack for you
- 34:37Speaker 1: to sit on when you were done. But congratulations and, yeah,
- 34:41Speaker 1: please get behind.
- 34:42Speaker 3: Congratulate me afterwards, Carolyn.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Well, you might not finish it, so I'll congratulate you
- 34:47Speaker 1: now for the effort and then I'll congratulate you again
- 34:51Speaker 1: when you do finish. Okay, so that's still a couple
- 34:55Speaker 1: of weeks away, but we are just about out of
- 34:58Speaker 1: time here today. But I do want to mention a
- 35:01Speaker 1: couple of things. I've got my Valor shirt on today.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Giants fans and lovers of netball history, don't forget that
- 35:09Speaker 1: Valor has 60% of Giants merch up until the end
- 35:12Speaker 1: of September. So that is... Today, so Wednesday, we go
- 35:17Speaker 1: to air, so really you need to jump online at
- 35:20Speaker 1: VALOR and get your Giants merch there for posterity because
- 35:26Speaker 1: we are soon moving into sirens time, which is very exciting.
- 35:30Speaker 1: We also have fewer than 20 tickets left for our
- 35:33Speaker 1: live event on Constellation Cup Eve on the 24th of
- 35:36Speaker 1: October here in Sydney, so go to nodribble.com.au to find
- 35:41Speaker 1: the ticket link for that. Come and join us. That
- 35:43Speaker 1: is shaping up to be very exciting. And I will
- 35:46Speaker 1: say that someone who is coming to that event stuck
- 35:50Speaker 1: her hand up to get a no dribble tattoo. which
- 35:54Speaker 1: we said we would pay for the first person. So
- 35:56Speaker 1: she nominated herself very early and I've given her a
- 35:59Speaker 1: mandatory seven day cooling off period. I feel like that is.
- 36:05Speaker 1: I'm happy to encourage people to do foolish things, but
- 36:08Speaker 1: I need to be very clear that they've had plenty
- 36:10Speaker 1: of opportunity to back out. So we will be announcing
- 36:13Speaker 1: next week. I can't, I will wait until she has said, yeah,
- 36:17Speaker 1: I'm still good to go. I gave her 48 hours
- 36:19Speaker 1: and she came back and she said, I'm good to go.
- 36:21Speaker 1: And I said, well, we'll wait until next week. And
- 36:23Speaker 1: and confirm. But yes, so that could happen that weekend
- 36:26Speaker 1: because she is coming to Sydney, especially for that.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Have you prescribed where it has to be? I'm sorry. No, no, no.
- 36:32Speaker 1: Personal choice, I think on size and location of it.
- 36:37Speaker 1: I just, I love this.
- 36:40Speaker 3: A big one on your forehead.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. You know what helps your employment prospects is
- 36:45Speaker 1: a neck tattoo of any description.
- 36:48Speaker 3: How funny if you got it on the side of
- 36:50Speaker 3: your mouth and it said no dribble. It would be
- 36:52Speaker 3: so funny.
- 36:55Speaker 1: We did actually have several people and I had to
- 36:57Speaker 1: say we've actually had someone who jumped in first, so
- 37:00Speaker 1: that is amazing. I'm just going to say one more time,
- 37:03Speaker 1: Tapaya Selby-Rickett, and then I nearly screwed it up again
- 37:07Speaker 1: then because now it's in my head. I'm a Kiwi,
- 37:10Speaker 1: for God's sake. This is a disgrace. Anyway, that's all
- 37:12Speaker 1: we've got time for now. Please join us again on Friday.
- 37:16Speaker 1: My name's Carolyn Swindell.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Bye. I'm Liz Ellis. See you.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Sue Gordian.
- 37:21Speaker 2: Ciao. Bye. Bye.
