- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, nine thirty six right now.
- 0:02Speaker 2: So I was at my book club last night where
- 0:06Speaker 2: we didn't talk about books at all.
- 0:09Speaker 3: That's great.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna say you call it book club. I think
- 0:11Speaker 1: it's just ladies sitting around drinking wine.
- 0:13Speaker 4: That is. But isn't that nice?
- 0:15Speaker 1: It is nice?
- 0:15Speaker 5: Why don't you just call it that?
- 0:17Speaker 4: And what we talked about last night?
- 0:20Speaker 2: And I know that there are soccer parents out there
- 0:23Speaker 2: listening right now.
- 0:25Speaker 4: I know you two don't understand this at all.
- 0:28Speaker 5: But actually I do. Oh, give me a try.
- 0:31Speaker 4: This time of year. The tyranny of soccer is at
- 0:34Speaker 4: its worst.
- 0:35Speaker 1: You know how I know about this because I keep
- 0:37Speaker 1: reminding you of the tyranny of soccer this time of year.
- 0:40Speaker 2: So this is tryout season, and soccer club tryouts are
- 0:47Speaker 2: it is the most poorly thought out system. So there
- 0:52Speaker 2: are all these clubs, so every year you have to
- 0:55Speaker 2: start fresh, right.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Even if you're part of a club.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Come around next year, we still have tryouts and we
- 1:03Speaker 2: everything gets reshuffled again. The tryouts quite often are on
- 1:09Speaker 2: the same day at the same time, so you kind
- 1:12Speaker 2: of have to pick, like, well, I guess I'm going
- 1:14Speaker 2: to try out for this club and then if you
- 1:16Speaker 2: don't make that club, you're sol because you didn't try
- 1:22Speaker 2: out for the other.
- 1:23Speaker 4: It is the most stressful.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Are they different divisions or teams there? I don't know
- 1:29Speaker 3: the club. There are sports growing up in general, so
- 1:33Speaker 3: I'm familiar with that.
- 1:33Speaker 2: But yeah, there are different divisions, there are different teams.
- 1:37Speaker 2: There are coaches swap teams and take players with them.
- 1:43Speaker 2: It's ruthless and it is so stressful for the kids
- 1:48Speaker 2: because mostly I think kids just want to play with
- 1:51Speaker 2: their friends, Like I want to be on the same
- 1:54Speaker 2: team with my friends that I've been on with.
- 1:56Speaker 3: They have rec and comp leagues. This is above that.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Even this is this is comp okay.
- 2:02Speaker 5: So this is camp.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah, this is competitive soccer. But it is the most stressful.
- 2:09Speaker 1: This is what I've been saying to you for years,
- 2:12Speaker 1: is that you need to get the brain trust of
- 2:14Speaker 1: parents together and create a new soccer league that doesn't
- 2:18Speaker 1: have these.
- 2:20Speaker 4: Restrictions because it's things like.
- 2:23Speaker 2: You play based on your birth year, not on your grade. Right.
- 2:28Speaker 4: So Mohamma's birthday is at the.
- 2:31Speaker 2: End of December of December, and most of his friends
- 2:35Speaker 2: were born, you know, two weeks later or more. So
- 2:38Speaker 2: he for the last few years has not been able
- 2:40Speaker 2: to play on a team whether his friends because he
- 2:43Speaker 2: just happened to.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Be born to It's stuff like that.
- 2:47Speaker 2: So I just I'm putting out there to all the
- 2:49Speaker 2: soccer parents that have been stressed about this for this
- 2:52Speaker 2: last week or two.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I hear you. This is all we talked about at book.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Club with so the Labarbery Soccer League. Yeah, one of
- 3:00Speaker 1: the first things would be is bring your team, yeah
- 3:04Speaker 1: or or yeah, you know, play with You've got your
- 3:07Speaker 1: friends you want to play with, bring your team.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Like that and parents, bring a book and we'll make
- 3:14Speaker 3: it a book in soccer clubs.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Okay, there you go.
- 3:16Speaker 4: We read our book at soccer practice.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Why not everybody wins? I feel you.
- 3:25Speaker 4: It's horrible time.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Well, all growing up, me and my siblings did somewhat sports.
- 3:30Speaker 3: We weren't super sports heavy, but it was my job
- 3:34Speaker 3: towards the latter half of my high school days to
- 3:36Speaker 3: drive my siblings around game two, game two, game and
- 3:40Speaker 3: I got three of them underneath me, and I spent
- 3:42Speaker 3: damn near my entire time after high school picking up
- 3:46Speaker 3: and dropping them off. And that's not saying my parents
- 3:48Speaker 3: like whatever, Like they they were busy starting asson doing
- 3:53Speaker 3: things and yeah.
- 3:54Speaker 4: It's a big commitment though it's lots of practices.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Game.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I was seventeen sitting on the sidelines like a parent,
- 4:02Speaker 3: just being like.
- 4:02Speaker 4: I'm on dunk, get there, hustle, you hustle.
- 4:06Speaker 5: I want to see some hustle.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Luckily, Mohammad, my son, not the prophet, can drive himself now,
- 4:15Speaker 2: which is so I said, whatever team you end up on,
- 4:18Speaker 2: if you're good, you know, driving out to Harriman or
- 4:21Speaker 2: wherever the practice, and he's like, yeah, I'm good, I'll
- 4:24Speaker 2: take care of.
- 4:24Speaker 4: It, which is great. Yeah, I don't have to do
- 4:27Speaker 4: carpool anymore. All of Yeah, I feel you.
- 4:35Speaker 5: Because it was that. It was guitar lessons. My sister
- 4:38Speaker 5: did cheer.
- 4:39Speaker 4: So you've already sort of done the parents.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Oh that's why I've done with it. That's why I
- 4:43Speaker 3: don't want to do it anymore.
- 4:44Speaker 5: I'm done your parents. I hope they're not listening them.
- 4:50Speaker 1: You know what ruined me for sports being forced to
- 4:52Speaker 1: be in sports?
- 4:54Speaker 4: Oh yeah, no, that you shouldn't do. Don't make your
- 4:57Speaker 4: kids do it.
- 4:58Speaker 1: That's that's what drove me out of sports.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Thank.
- 5:01Speaker 4: I think you should make your kids do something.
- 5:03Speaker 5: Yeah, it doesn't have to be. Sports can be music, music, guitar.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Can be, drama can be, art classes can be. You
- 5:14Speaker 2: have to have something outside of.
- 5:17Speaker 5: Art, a social element in art class.
- 5:19Speaker 4: So that's just gonna make him gay something.
- 5:23Speaker 1: That's what dad thought.
- 5:24Speaker 5: I your theater. I did give conversations from Xten family
- 5:29Speaker 5: about the same thing for me.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, oh you like you like theater and I
- 5:34Speaker 3: liked it because I like comedy and that was the
- 5:35Speaker 3: only way to do it exactly.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Yeah, And they're like, well, you got to come out
- 5:39Speaker 5: to your show. Huh. I'm like, I actually would prefer
- 5:41Speaker 5: you didn't show.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Up at all.
- 5:43Speaker 5: Yeah. I don't know, Elma.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I'm worried about him watching mister Rogers.
- 5:48Speaker 5: That's going to make him gay direct quote.
- 5:52Speaker 4: But you're not gay. So it did anything, But you
- 5:56Speaker 4: did theater and you're not gay.
- 5:58Speaker 5: What exactly it didn't work?
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah, it didn't take.
- 6:00Speaker 5: I have a rainbow flag.
- 6:03Speaker 4: I've read books, yeah, and listen to music.
- 6:06Speaker 1: And yes, David Bowie, I you know gay friends.
- 6:11Speaker 3: A family member that will remain unnamed came up to
- 6:14Speaker 3: me one day and was clearly coming down from a
- 6:17Speaker 3: lot of inner conflict and was.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Like, Nick, if you're gay. That's okay with me, and.
- 6:25Speaker 4: I was like, what's it was very this.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Is again, we've changed a lot in twenty years. This
- 6:31Speaker 5: is early two thousands.
- 6:33Speaker 4: I will give them so much credit.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I was like this, I'm not but think, yeah, strange
- 6:42Speaker 1: brought home a Catholic girl.
- 6:45Speaker 5: And uh yeah, you know.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Dad's response was I'm just glad he stating a girl,
- 6:50Speaker 1: but the fact she was Catholic.
- 6:53Speaker 5: In some very very.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Concern Well, Catholics are problems.
- 6:58Speaker 5: They are, Yes, you athletics, all right,
