Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Charyl Robinson: Vape Free Kids Co-Founder on misleading vape labelling
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: When you study in the medical journals found more than
- 0:02Speaker 1: half of vape juices have been labeled with the wrong
- 0:05Speaker 1: concentration of nicotine, but not in the way that you
- 0:07Speaker 1: would think. It's with less nicotine than advertised, not more.
- 0:11Speaker 1: They reckon this is a bad thing because it could
- 0:13Speaker 1: mean that vapors vape more often or even revert to smoking.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Cheryl Robinson is co founder of Vape Free Kids with
- 0:21Speaker 1: Me This Morning.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Hey, Cheryl, good morning, Ryan.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Good to have you on the show. I thought this
- 0:27Speaker 1: was surprising because you would think that they would load
- 0:29Speaker 1: it with more nicotine so that you are more addicted.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Well, I think they've probably got a lot of money
- 0:36Speaker 2: to find out.
- 0:37Speaker 3: What works better to addict people.
- 0:39Speaker 2: It's no surprise or no secret that we don't trust
- 0:43Speaker 2: a lot of what this industry get up to. But
- 0:46Speaker 2: it's very worrying to think that.
- 0:48Speaker 3: There are irregularities on the labeling of their products and
- 0:52Speaker 3: when what is actually contained in them, whether that's nicotine
- 0:55Speaker 3: level or other chemicals that aren't stated, it's worrying.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Do you think they're doing it on purpose? Do you
- 1:03Speaker 1: think that they're purposely under cooking what the nicotine level
- 1:08Speaker 1: is so that people will do it more often, therefore
- 1:11Speaker 1: buy more product and also you know, get more addicted.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Well, I'm no expert on how the intricacies of how
- 1:21Speaker 2: nicotine levels impact a person's addiction level, but what I
- 1:27Speaker 2: have learned over the last few years that this industry
- 1:30Speaker 2: don't do anything by accident. Everything they do is very intentional.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And you know, we've we're neutral when it comes to
- 1:38Speaker 2: adults of vaping, and it's it's hard. If this has
- 1:42Speaker 2: been touted as a quit smoking tool, it makes it
- 1:46Speaker 2: a bit difficult for those who are using it as
- 1:49Speaker 2: such to be able to monitor their intake, the nicotine
- 1:54Speaker 2: intake and use it effectively as a quick smoking tool.
- 1:57Speaker 2: If they can't be confident there what is on the
- 2:00Speaker 2: package is what they're actually getting. It's quite a precise,
- 2:06Speaker 2: a precise thing to try and do to monitor your
- 2:09Speaker 2: intake to give up an addiction. And even more worryingly
- 2:14Speaker 2: for us, as children are our main concern here is
- 2:18Speaker 2: there is no funded support for quitting vaping for use,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and so there's families out there going it alone. And
- 2:27Speaker 2: that's hard enough without not being able to have confidence
- 2:31Speaker 2: on how much nicotina is in the product that you're
- 2:33Speaker 2: using to try and wean your child off.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah, because normally you kind of need to know what
- 2:39Speaker 1: your dose is before you can start to taper your
- 2:42Speaker 1: way off it. And if you don't know what your
- 2:43Speaker 1: doses and that becomes very difficult. Cheryl, I appreciate your
- 2:46Speaker 1: time this morning. Thanks for coming on the show. Cheryl Robinson,
- 2:48Speaker 1: co founder of Vape Free Kids. For more from Early
- 2:52Speaker 1: Edition with Ryan Bridge, listen live to news talks. It'd
