- 0:18Speaker 1: in a friend of the show, Stephen Willis, locked on
- 0:21Speaker 1: Ole Miss. Stephen, we talked a lot during coaching searches,
- 0:25Speaker 1: during the game last year. This season kind of feels
- 0:28Speaker 1: like a different feel. I think, uh, you know, you
- 0:31Speaker 1: guys maybe feel a little lighter and, um, I think
- 0:35Speaker 1: Florida fans feel a little hopeful.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Yeah. First of all, um, I'm going to be honoring
- 0:40Speaker 2: respect week, um, as, as a good rebel should do
- 0:45Speaker 2: this week. Um, but second of all, yeah, it's good
- 0:49Speaker 2: to be off the lane, Kiffin ride. Listen, I understand
- 0:52Speaker 2: all the winds came. but the moment he got off
- 0:55Speaker 2: and was somebody else's problem with what's going on for
- 0:57Speaker 2: the last nine months in Baton Rouge, I was like,
- 1:00Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, that could have been us. And we
- 1:04Speaker 2: would have been happy to do it. And we would
- 1:05Speaker 2: have been defending him just like all the Yahoo's are
- 1:09Speaker 2: doing down there at the moment. And at the end
- 1:12Speaker 2: of the day, you're just in a better position because
- 1:14Speaker 2: right now you want on the football field against those guys. And,
- 1:19Speaker 2: Pete Golding is 5-1 against ranked teams or 4-1 against
- 1:23Speaker 2: ranked teams in his young coaching career, including two top
- 1:27Speaker 2: ten victories. I can't imagine a situation where Ole Miss
- 1:30Speaker 2: fans would be much more excited than they are right now.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I know we're supposed to be sad because what happened
- 1:37Speaker 2: down in Baton Rouge, but Trinidad didn't go to Baton Rouge.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Kiwan didn't go to Baton Rouge. Those dudes, and it's
- 1:43Speaker 2: always about the jimmies, you know, Not the X's nose
- 1:47Speaker 2: and all that. So, yeah, I think they're in a
- 1:49Speaker 2: pretty good spot right now.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Well, let's talk about this game that's taking place at 3.30
- 1:54Speaker 1: on Saturday in Gainesville. I want to start with Trinidad Chambliss.
- 1:57Speaker 1: You know, John Sumrall called him the best college football
- 2:00Speaker 1: player he's seen with his own eyes. And you've been
- 2:03Speaker 1: beating that drum for a while. What specifically makes Chambliss
- 2:08Speaker 1: different from a really good quarterback?
- 2:12Speaker 2: Listen, whenever these great quarterbacks come through college football, it's
- 2:16Speaker 2: usually because they do one thing really well. Like Cam
- 2:19Speaker 2: Newton was just a freak of nature athletically. Baker Mayfield
- 2:23Speaker 2: or Kyler Murray could do things certain ways. The first
- 2:26Speaker 2: thing I was telling you on another show that we
- 2:30Speaker 2: did that the first thing I noticed about Trinidad was
- 2:32Speaker 2: the game manager. He hopped in the four-minute offense completely
- 2:35Speaker 2: cold and ran out the clock and won the game
- 2:38Speaker 2: even before– anything else happened when he was still running
- 2:42Speaker 2: a retrofitted Austin Simmons offense at that point. And then
- 2:46Speaker 2: in the games, he started to grow and you can
- 2:49Speaker 2: see the playmaking ability and the ability to process. And
- 2:53Speaker 2: you're like, yes, this guy's Russell Wilson, whatever, you know,
- 2:55Speaker 2: everybody does the comps on it. And no, this guy's this,
- 2:59Speaker 2: this guy's that. And I'm like, I don't know if
- 3:01Speaker 2: you can put him in that box because when he
- 3:03Speaker 2: throws the football, he literally looks like Drew Brees back
- 3:07Speaker 2: there throwing the football and When he runs the football,
- 3:10Speaker 2: he looks like Pete Kyler Murray. And you're just like,
- 3:14Speaker 2: are we in the middle of something special that's about
- 3:18Speaker 2: to happen to Ole Miss? Yeah. That's where the Ole
- 3:20Speaker 2: Miss fan base is because you've got the piece. You've
- 3:23Speaker 2: got the dude. I don't care who Ole Miss is playing.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I'm not betting against six against any team.
- 3:29Speaker 1: You know, what LSU game plan to stop and what
- 3:33Speaker 1: Florida will game plan to stop may– be very different.
- 3:36Speaker 1: But if you are Florida defensive coordinator Brad White, where
- 3:40Speaker 1: do you start with this Ole Miss offense?
- 3:44Speaker 2: I don't know because LSU actually had a decent plan
- 3:50Speaker 2: to where you just keep everything in front of you
- 3:53Speaker 2: and you keep him from making the explosives and it
- 3:56Speaker 2: didn't matter. Some of the windows that he threw touchdowns
- 4:00Speaker 2: in that game were insanely small. He threw a 25-yard
- 4:04Speaker 2: touchdown pass against a three-deep safety look with a window
- 4:07Speaker 2: that was about six foot wide and fitted in their
- 4:10Speaker 2: perfect ball placement. I would have gone in thinking that
- 4:14Speaker 2: was a great plan. And then in the second half,
- 4:16Speaker 2: they just turned out and it was like they're going
- 4:18Speaker 2: to blitz. He is one of the better quarterbacks in
- 4:21Speaker 2: the entire country against the blitz. It's one of those
- 4:24Speaker 2: things I don't know that you can be right. I
- 4:26Speaker 2: think the most important thing that Florida could have going
- 4:29Speaker 2: for them in this game is their pass rushers, that noise,
- 4:34Speaker 2: and getting off just a fraction of a second later.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Connor Halls, who's actually from Kissimmee, down the road, he's
- 4:40Speaker 2: been starting the last couple of games at right tackle.
- 4:43Speaker 2: The left tackle's unbelievable. You don't even hear his name
- 4:47Speaker 2: during the game. He's so good. But the first time
- 4:49Speaker 2: they go into a road atmosphere to where the reaction
- 4:52Speaker 2: time's just a little bit slower, maybe that's the secret
- 4:56Speaker 2: sauce because nobody has kind of figured out how to
- 4:59Speaker 2: do it to this point, and we're almost a year
- 5:02Speaker 2: into it.
- 5:04Speaker 1: You know, I watched some of your recap stuff, and
- 5:07Speaker 1: one of the things that you talked about, you made
- 5:08Speaker 1: a great point about, you know, that Ole Miss won
- 5:11Speaker 1: that game despite rushing for only 63 yards. Is your
- 5:16Speaker 1: ability to run the football a concern that you have
- 5:19Speaker 1: coming into Gainesville?
- 5:20Speaker 2: No, because Ole Miss isn't running the ball to win
- 5:25Speaker 2: the game. They're running the ball to keep the defense honest.
- 5:29Speaker 2: And also to remember in that LSU game, there was
- 5:32Speaker 2: a fumble where they lost 15 yards. There was a
- 5:34Speaker 2: stack where they lost 22. So actually the number was
- 5:38Speaker 2: closer to about 100 yards rushing when it was all
- 5:41Speaker 2: said and done. So that was enough to where LSU
- 5:44Speaker 2: defensively had to honor the run. So if that happens,
- 5:47Speaker 2: all of a sudden everything opens up. I think the
- 5:50Speaker 2: purpose of this Ole Miss offense is to maximize what
- 5:53Speaker 2: Trinidad Chambliss can do. And just a second, that play fake,
- 5:58Speaker 2: you have to think about it. JT Lindsey came into
- 6:00Speaker 2: the game after Kiwan Lacy got injured against LSU, converted
- 6:05Speaker 2: a huge fourth and one, got a nice explosive run,
- 6:09Speaker 2: two-point conversion, all of that stuff. LSU had to honor
- 6:12Speaker 2: the run. So I don't think it's about the yards
- 6:15Speaker 2: with Ole Miss. It's about whether you have to just
- 6:18Speaker 2: pay attention to the run game and honor the run
- 6:21Speaker 2: game more so than anything else. So Trinidad can just
- 6:24Speaker 2: be Trinidad.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Florida just watched Jaden Baugh run for 162 yards and
- 6:29Speaker 1: three touchdowns at Auburn, and he now has 100 yards
- 6:32Speaker 1: in all three of these games and then a couple
- 6:34Speaker 1: more dating back to last year. When Florida has the ball,
- 6:37Speaker 1: do you think that Jaden Baugh is the matchup that
- 6:40Speaker 1: scares Ole Miss the most?
- 6:42Speaker 2: Oh, Jaden Baugh is the 100% matchup of this game
- 6:45Speaker 2: because Florida's offense, they do a lot of things really well,
- 6:49Speaker 2: but it all starts with Jaden Baugh. I mean, if
- 6:52Speaker 2: he gets going, they can start with the play-action stuff.
- 6:55Speaker 2: The screens are more effective, things like that. I think
- 6:58Speaker 2: Ole Miss in this game needs to shoot for a
- 7:00Speaker 2: stat line with Jaden Ball where it's 27 carries, 115 yards.
- 7:06Speaker 2: If that happens, Ole Miss wins the game. They just
- 7:09Speaker 2: don't need it to be 27 carries, 180 yards, something
- 7:13Speaker 2: like that. That is the difference. And Ole Miss– Everybody's
- 7:18Speaker 2: going to talk about the missed tackle problem that Ole
- 7:20Speaker 2: Miss has and how much Jaden Ball causes that. Ole
- 7:23Speaker 2: Miss played Isaac Brown in the first week, and Isaac
- 7:25Speaker 2: Brown had 14 carries for 30 yards in the game.
- 7:29Speaker 2: They are pretty good at dealing with the running back
- 7:31Speaker 2: from time to time. Every now and then they go
- 7:33Speaker 2: to sleep, they switch off, and they get gashed. But
- 7:36Speaker 2: for the most part, they do pretty well. The problem
- 7:38Speaker 2: they've had is chasing around Lincoln Keenholz and Sam Leavitt.
- 7:43Speaker 2: That's where a lot of those missed tackles are coming from.
- 7:46Speaker 2: because you're chasing around quarterbacks. And I don't know. I
- 7:49Speaker 2: think that Aaron Filo is a willing runner. I don't
- 7:53Speaker 2: think you would compare him to kind holds or Sam Levin. Yeah.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I mean, I think he will do it. I don't
- 7:58Speaker 1: think you necessarily have a ton designed for him, but
- 8:01Speaker 1: you know, where do you, so is that running back
- 8:05Speaker 1: and truly room because Duke Clark was actually phenomenal against
- 8:09Speaker 1: Auburn as well, but is that, Florida's biggest advantage? Or
- 8:12Speaker 1: do you think, you and I talked on your show
- 8:14Speaker 1: a little bit about Aaron Filo being such a game manager.
- 8:18Speaker 1: What about the way that this offense has run as
- 8:21Speaker 1: a whole gives Ole Miss pause going into this?
- 8:26Speaker 2: Pete Golding on Monday in his press conference said that
- 8:28Speaker 2: Aaron Filo reminded him of a coach's kid. And he's
- 8:31Speaker 2: just always calm, snap the ball over his head. He's
- 8:33Speaker 2: calming everybody down. He's doing everything that needs to happen
- 8:37Speaker 2: for that to happen. What gives Ole Miss pause is
- 8:42Speaker 2: Jaden Ball getting loose, and then all of a sudden
- 8:44Speaker 2: you can start doing the stuff off of it. The
- 8:46Speaker 2: play action of Dallas Thomas and Brown and all those
- 8:49Speaker 2: guys become much more effective. Maybe the tight end becomes
- 8:53Speaker 2: a weapon finally.
- 8:55Speaker 1: We're going to take a short break from the video
- 8:56Speaker 1: to give some love to our partners over at Alumni Hall. Guys,
- 8:59Speaker 1: they have all the best gear that you need from
- 9:02Speaker 1: game days. You can order online at alumnihall.com or you
- 9:06Speaker 1: can check them out in their store on Archer Road
- 9:08Speaker 1: if you happen to be going to Gainesville. And they
- 9:10Speaker 1: have given us a 15% off code. It's PEAK15. That's P-E-E-K-1-5.
- 9:15Speaker 1: You can use it online or you can go ahead
- 9:17Speaker 1: and use it in the store when you go to
- 9:19Speaker 1: check out. Just tell them, hey, Allie sent me. It's
- 9:21Speaker 1: my code's PEAK15. They'll give you 15% off your entire total.
- 9:25Speaker 1: We've got Nike, Cutter & Buck, Peter Millar, Jordan. All
- 9:29Speaker 1: the pop brands that you are looking for are available
- 9:32Speaker 1: online in Alumni Hall and in person at their store
- 9:35Speaker 1: on Archer Road. Make sure you go check them out
- 9:37Speaker 1: and tell them Allie sent you. We appreciate Alumni Hall
- 9:40Speaker 1: for all their support. Yeah, well, we've done some good
- 9:43Speaker 1: things with tight ends this year. We're all blown away
- 9:46Speaker 1: by it.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, you have something like that, but it
- 9:50Speaker 2: all is predicated on Jaden Ball getting loose or whoever
- 9:53Speaker 2: the running back is getting loose because that's the John
- 9:57Speaker 2: Summerall thing. And one of the weird advantages that Ole
- 10:00Speaker 2: Miss has in this ballgame is that they faced John
- 10:03Speaker 2: Summerall last year twice, including most everybody that's on this staff.
- 10:07Speaker 2: So that was the team they played in the playoffs
- 10:10Speaker 2: last year in the first round. So you have an
- 10:12Speaker 2: idea what a John Summerall team looks like. And the
- 10:15Speaker 2: offensive coordinator for Ole Miss, played Tulane as the offensive
- 10:19Speaker 2: coordinator a year ago. Now, different defensive coordinators, and I'm
- 10:22Speaker 2: not talking about scheme stuff. I'm talking about how the
- 10:25Speaker 2: football team's going to play because you play a John
- 10:28Speaker 2: Summerall team, it's a fast, it's a physical team. They're
- 10:31Speaker 2: playing downfield. They totally take the identity of the coach.
- 10:35Speaker 2: You have an idea of that going into the swamp
- 10:40Speaker 2: in that game. Now, it's not Tulane players on the
- 10:42Speaker 2: other side. It's Florida players on the other side. So
- 10:45Speaker 2: if they take that in, You better pack a lunch, pal,
- 10:47Speaker 2: is what I'm saying.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Let's flip that around. Where is the matchup that Ole
- 10:52Speaker 1: Miss should feel best about offensively against Florida? Is there
- 10:56Speaker 1: a particular position group or player that you think you
- 11:00Speaker 1: guys could attack?
- 11:02Speaker 2: I don't know if there's a player that Ole Miss
- 11:04Speaker 2: can attack, but I will put it to you like this.
- 11:07Speaker 2: I will take Ole Miss' slot receiver and tight end
- 11:10Speaker 2: going against the interior defenders of the secondary. I'll every
- 11:16Speaker 2: day of the week and twice on Sunday. Caleb Odom
- 11:19Speaker 2: is a weapon. He is somebody that can destroy linebackers
- 11:24Speaker 2: in a mesh concept. He is somebody that can run
- 11:26Speaker 2: up the seams that safeties are not big enough to
- 11:29Speaker 2: deal with. He is basically what trade as green was
- 11:33Speaker 2: for LSU last year. He's a six foot six guy,
- 11:36Speaker 2: 240 pounds with excellent hands and can absolutely run. He's
- 11:41Speaker 2: a mismatch problem. And when you have the speed on
- 11:44Speaker 2: the outside of Deuce Alexander and, And those guys, the
- 11:48Speaker 2: middle of the field becomes where the fight's going to happen.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And that's where Trinidad's doing most of his damage right now,
- 11:53Speaker 2: if you look at it.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Traylon Ray felt like a major development against LSU. Seven catches,
- 11:59Speaker 1: 115 yards, and a touchdown. Now that there's another legitimate weapon,
- 12:03Speaker 1: does that make defending Chambliss even harder?
- 12:06Speaker 2: Yes, it absolutely does. One thing that somebody talked to
- 12:09Speaker 2: me last week about is what made Ole Miss offensively
- 12:13Speaker 2: so good over the last couple of years is you
- 12:15Speaker 2: didn't know who was going to be the dude that day.
- 12:18Speaker 2: It could have been anybody. And coming into the season,
- 12:21Speaker 2: everybody's like, well, Deuce Alexander will be there and Kiwan
- 12:24Speaker 2: Lacey might be there. But what then? Against Louisville, it
- 12:27Speaker 2: was Caleb Odom. He emerged. Against LSU, Trelon Ray emerged.
- 12:32Speaker 2: I think potentially Jontae Cook could emerge as well. And
- 12:37Speaker 2: if that happens, all of a sudden, you've got weapons
- 12:39Speaker 2: all over the outside. Potential Heisman winner in the backfield
- 12:44Speaker 2: and excellent running game. Potentially, as far as explosivity, I
- 12:49Speaker 2: think everything that everybody, I guess, predicted about Ole Miss
- 12:54Speaker 2: offensively whenever they lost Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weiss, that's
- 12:57Speaker 2: not exactly going to come to fruition.
- 13:00Speaker 1: How much does Ke'wan Lacy's health change this game? Even
- 13:05Speaker 1: if he plays, do you need him to be close
- 13:07Speaker 1: to 100% to help, we joke, make this offense one-dimensional? No.
- 13:14Speaker 1: but make this offense one-dimensional. How important is it for
- 13:18Speaker 1: him to be back?
- 13:19Speaker 2: I think it would be a big boon if he
- 13:23Speaker 2: was in the backfield because that changes the way the
- 13:25Speaker 2: other team's going to play. Because I think he ran
- 13:28Speaker 2: for 200 yards and three touchdowns against Florida last year.
- 13:30Speaker 2: A lot of these guys know what happened. When number
- 13:34Speaker 2: five's in the backfield, they're paying attention to that. But again,
- 13:39Speaker 2: it comes down to just do enough to where Trinidad
- 13:42Speaker 2: can do his thing. That is the offense at the moment.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Line Kiwan up in the backfield, eight, nine snaps in
- 13:50Speaker 2: the game, carries if that can happen, fantastic. Otherwise, I'm
- 13:55Speaker 2: perfectly happy with Makai Frazier and JT Lindsey as far
- 13:58Speaker 2: as pass protection with Trinidad Chambliss. But, yes, it absolutely
- 14:04Speaker 2: would be a– Kiwan Lacy not playing in the game
- 14:08Speaker 2: because he does have the ability every time he touches
- 14:11Speaker 2: the football to take it to the house.
- 14:13Speaker 1: There's been this strange pattern with Ole Miss in the
- 14:16Speaker 1: third quarter. We saw it against Louisville and Charlotte, again
- 14:19Speaker 1: against LSU. I know you've talked about it on your
- 14:22Speaker 1: channel quite a bit. What is happening there? And against
- 14:25Speaker 1: a Florida team that showed it can handle momentum swings
- 14:28Speaker 1: at Jordan-Hare, how concerning is it?
- 14:31Speaker 2: Well, it needs to stop. And it should have stopped
- 14:34Speaker 2: against LSU. Let's be real about that. Ole Miss kicked
- 14:38Speaker 2: off to LSU, had the ball. They went three and out,
- 14:40Speaker 2: and Ole Miss got a sack. They did what they
- 14:43Speaker 2: were supposed to do. It was the interception in the
- 14:45Speaker 2: short field that flipped the momentum in that game. So
- 14:48Speaker 2: that's when it got weird. The next drive, Ole Miss
- 14:51Speaker 2: got it, drove it down, and missed a field goal.
- 14:53Speaker 2: So it could have been a lot different than it
- 14:57Speaker 2: actually was, and it probably was better than we're giving
- 15:00Speaker 2: it credit for because, honestly, against Louisville and Charlotte, it
- 15:03Speaker 2: was not good at all. LSU was better, but if
- 15:07Speaker 2: you look at the scoreboard, LSU scored 14 points, Ole
- 15:09Speaker 2: Miss scored zero. So it's like, oh, what happened there?
- 15:12Speaker 2: And you have to look into it. I think Ole
- 15:14Speaker 2: Miss played better. They're getting ready to take maybe the
- 15:18Speaker 2: next step. Now, the problem is, like Caleb Odom said
- 15:22Speaker 2: in his press availability, you're going down to the swamp.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Don't make one bad play turn into four. And that
- 15:28Speaker 2: crowd can make that happen. So you have to be
- 15:30Speaker 2: locked in, focused, and all of that. More than just
- 15:33Speaker 2: the third quarter, you need to try and put together
- 15:35Speaker 2: a complete ball game. if Ole Miss puts a complete
- 15:39Speaker 2: ball game together, I don't know if there's many teams
- 15:42Speaker 2: in the country that can beat them.
- 15:44Speaker 1: You know, you bring up the swamp and this is
- 15:45Speaker 1: Ole Miss's first true road game of the season. And
- 15:49Speaker 1: obviously Gainesville is a very different environment. How much do
- 15:52Speaker 1: you think the swamp actually matters in this matchup, especially
- 15:56Speaker 1: for an Ole Miss offense that has already been operating
- 15:59Speaker 1: at a pretty darn high level?
- 16:02Speaker 2: I think it matters a good bit. Um, I think
- 16:05Speaker 2: the noise is going to be outrageous. It's going to
- 16:09Speaker 2: be important for Ole Miss to score early and get
- 16:12Speaker 2: on top early a little bit, kind of deflate that crowd,
- 16:15Speaker 2: because if they get going and it turns into a buzzsaw,
- 16:18Speaker 2: it can be a problem, as Ole Miss has seen 2015,
- 16:22Speaker 2: a good example of that. But I think that Ole
- 16:25Speaker 2: Miss is kind of uniquely positioned to handle it because
- 16:30Speaker 2: of the tempo stuff that they do. All of that,
- 16:32Speaker 2: the noise, they're going to be able to do it. Now,
- 16:34Speaker 2: I do worry about Therese Davis and Connor Hall starting
- 16:38Speaker 2: on the road. It could be Tommy Kinsler at right tackle.
- 16:41Speaker 2: He's a kid from Ocala that could end up handling that.
- 16:45Speaker 2: So it will be interesting. I know it's going to
- 16:48Speaker 2: mean a lot to those guys, but Florida does have
- 16:50Speaker 2: a pretty good sack record and the crowd noise. If
- 16:53Speaker 2: you're getting off the ball, that's an advantage the defensive
- 16:56Speaker 2: has that's just watching it.
- 16:58Speaker 1: So I am incredibly fascinated by this coaching matchup. Pete
- 17:03Speaker 1: Golding is a defensive-minded guy. John Summerall is a defensive-minded guy.
- 17:06Speaker 1: But both these teams are winning right now largely because
- 17:09Speaker 1: of what they're doing offensively. Where do you think the
- 17:12Speaker 1: chess match between those two staffs shows up on Saturday?
- 17:16Speaker 2: I think it's defensively and how Pete Golding deals with
- 17:24Speaker 2: Jaden Baugh. I mean, that is the key for Ole Miss.
- 17:29Speaker 2: You have to figure out a way to limit him. Now,
- 17:32Speaker 2: you're not going to stop him. He's too good to stop.
- 17:35Speaker 2: But like I said, if you can hold him to
- 17:37Speaker 2: 27 for 115, you've done a pretty good job. I
- 17:41Speaker 2: think Ole Miss has the best special teams in the
- 17:43Speaker 2: entire country. And that's going to come true. They've got
- 17:47Speaker 2: a kicker that never– there's never a kickoff return. It's
- 17:50Speaker 2: going to be about the back of the end zone,
- 17:51Speaker 2: the punter. consistently 45 yards and put it any direction
- 17:55Speaker 2: he wants to do, the return game is pretty good
- 17:58Speaker 2: as well. I think that offensively, Ole Miss does have
- 18:02Speaker 2: the advantage in this game because of six. And it
- 18:06Speaker 2: comes down to what Ole Miss does defensively. Ole Miss
- 18:09Speaker 2: has the ability to do it. Makai Barreau, somebody that
- 18:13Speaker 2: Florida fans should be pretty familiar with, gets a decent
- 18:17Speaker 2: number of snaps defensively. on that defense, him and Jaheim Otis,
- 18:23Speaker 2: they can go some big boy football. I expect Will
- 18:26Speaker 2: Echols to play a little bit of defensive end with
- 18:28Speaker 2: Cam Franklin with the running game that they're going to face.
- 18:31Speaker 2: They're going to be 300 pounders across the board. And
- 18:36Speaker 2: it's going to be interesting to see.
- 18:38Speaker 1: So I didn't have this written down, but I am
- 18:40Speaker 1: so interested to talk to you about special teams because
- 18:43Speaker 1: that's something Florida football historically has had exceptional special teams
- 18:48Speaker 1: for the last 30 years outside of the last four.
- 18:51Speaker 1: And it's something that we prided ourselves on, married to
- 18:54Speaker 1: a punter, so something I pay attention to on a
- 18:56Speaker 1: regular basis. Vernell Brown III had two punt returns for
- 18:59Speaker 1: touchdowns a couple of weeks ago. Florida has, I think,
- 19:04Speaker 1: outside of a penalty on a kickoff, every single kickoff's
- 19:07Speaker 1: gone out of the back of the end zone. Really
- 19:10Speaker 1: solid field goal kicker. Wouldn't call him the best in
- 19:12Speaker 1: the country, but really, really solid. I am interested to
- 19:15Speaker 1: see if there is some sort of special teams match
- 19:18Speaker 1: up there. It feels like these are two coaches that
- 19:20Speaker 1: care about them again, which I have asked myself the
- 19:23Speaker 1: past few years, I wasn't sure if it was just
- 19:25Speaker 1: a Florida not caring issue or it was a college
- 19:28Speaker 1: football kind of moving away from putting as much emphasis
- 19:31Speaker 1: on special teams. But that's interesting that you bring that up.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And I am so intrigued now to pay closer attention
- 19:37Speaker 1: to that matchup. I want to talk a little bit,
- 19:40Speaker 1: both these teams just won games that they weren't supposed
- 19:42Speaker 1: to win. You know, they, both, you know, I think
- 19:47Speaker 1: it told us something about both of these teams. When
- 19:50Speaker 1: you started to watch Florida's performance against Auburn, was there
- 19:53Speaker 1: something that got your attention that, you know, kind of
- 19:56Speaker 1: just left off the film to you that you were like, oh, wow,
- 19:59Speaker 1: maybe I'll pay attention to this team a.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Little bit more? Well, Florida jumping on Auburn, and I'm
- 20:05Speaker 2: not talking about the score because for some reason at
- 20:07Speaker 2: halftime that was a close game. but it wasn't a
- 20:11Speaker 2: close game, if that makes sense. Whenever you actually watch
- 20:14Speaker 2: what happened, it was not a close game. And going
- 20:17Speaker 2: into that haunted house, because it is. Jordan-Hare Stadium at nighttime,
- 20:23Speaker 2: it's a haunted house. It's a badger den. And to
- 20:27Speaker 2: go in there and just take it to them like that. Now,
- 20:30Speaker 2: don't get me wrong. I was questioning this Alex Glesh
- 20:33Speaker 2: thing in year one. Now, he might be ultimately the
- 20:36Speaker 2: right dude, But whenever you bring G6 players into the
- 20:40Speaker 2: SEC and expect more than being G6 players, that's kind
- 20:44Speaker 2: of on you at that point. And that's what's going
- 20:48Speaker 2: on with Auburn. I do think there's a chance that
- 20:50Speaker 2: they throw up a 2-7 in the SEC this year because,
- 20:54Speaker 2: like I said, it's G6 players. Yes, USF beat Florida
- 20:58Speaker 2: a year ago, but they scored 16 points and struggled
- 21:01Speaker 2: to do it against a Florida team that was not
- 21:04Speaker 2: very good. Yeah. it's one of those things. Now you
- 21:07Speaker 2: expect those same guys to go up to Auburn and
- 21:10Speaker 2: beat Florida whenever they're playing well, especially offensively. Logically, that
- 21:15Speaker 2: doesn't make sense. So I see explosivity returning to Florida.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I see physicality returning to Florida. And, you know, I
- 21:26Speaker 2: have a weird relationship with it. John Summerall is one
- 21:29Speaker 2: of my dudes. It just, He always has been whenever
- 21:33Speaker 2: he was at Tulane and all this crap was going
- 21:35Speaker 2: on with Lane. John Summerall was my first choice of
- 21:38Speaker 2: what was going on. I freely admit that. And I
- 21:41Speaker 2: think John Summerall wanted the job because he's coached at
- 21:44Speaker 2: Ole Miss before and he knows the terrain there. But
- 21:46Speaker 2: the timing didn't necessarily work out. So there's a lot
- 21:50Speaker 2: to like about the Florida Gators and what they've done. Heck,
- 21:55Speaker 2: When I was 16 years old, my only non-Ole Miss
- 21:57Speaker 2: hat that I've ever owned was a Florida Gators hat.
- 22:00Speaker 2: Danny Werfel is my dude. So I do think that
- 22:05Speaker 2: Florida is going to win, and they're going to win
- 22:08Speaker 2: big with John Summerall. I do not think they're going
- 22:10Speaker 2: to win this game, though.
- 22:12Speaker 1: What's the biggest misconception Florida fans have about this Ole
- 22:16Speaker 1: Miss team?
- 22:18Speaker 2: That their defense is bad. That is the thing that
- 22:22Speaker 2: got LSU, I think. They thought it was going to
- 22:26Speaker 2: come in and be a cakewalk because of what happened
- 22:28Speaker 2: against Louisville with all the busts. Now, in that Louisville game,
- 22:32Speaker 2: Ole Miss had 12 busts for over 300 yards given
- 22:34Speaker 2: up in that game. Inside the red zone, one or
- 22:38Speaker 2: two or three touchdowns all year. You don't really score
- 22:42Speaker 2: touchdowns against Ole Miss in the red zone. And this
- 22:46Speaker 2: defensive front seven is one of the best in the
- 22:49Speaker 2: Southeastern Conference. So, with the bust in the back, if
- 22:52Speaker 2: you can avoid nerfing the front– to where you have
- 22:55Speaker 2: to protect the back end of that defense, they're pretty good.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Sharif Denson came back last week, was very good. Antonio
- 23:02Speaker 2: Kite actually came back. They were out the first couple
- 23:04Speaker 2: of games. As you saw in the first half of
- 23:07Speaker 2: that LSU game, when everybody's there and everybody's locked in,
- 23:10Speaker 2: they're actually a pretty good unit.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Conversely, what do you think Ole Miss fans are underestimating
- 23:16Speaker 1: maybe about Florida?
- 23:20Speaker 2: I think the screen game from Buster Faulkner, he's pretty
- 23:23Speaker 2: elite as a coordinator. He's somebody that at the right
- 23:29Speaker 2: time can pull out. You're expecting Jaden Baugh to get it.
- 23:32Speaker 2: He throws a screen out to Brown or something like that,
- 23:35Speaker 2: and it could get loose for an explosive. Just when
- 23:39Speaker 2: you thought you were getting things under control, that blew
- 23:43Speaker 2: the lid off of it. I think the Florida passing game,
- 23:48Speaker 2: is the thing that's being underestimated at the moment.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Give me the scenario where Florida wins this game. What
- 23:53Speaker 1: had to happen?
- 23:55Speaker 2: I think don't play clean. Ole Miss has to turn
- 24:00Speaker 2: the ball over, get penalties, missed tackles. If they don't
- 24:04Speaker 2: play clean, they're not winning this ballgame. That's not even
- 24:07Speaker 2: a question. If they play clean, I think Ole Miss
- 24:11Speaker 2: has the better team. But you can't give Florida– You
- 24:15Speaker 2: can't cut into that advantage by beating yourself on silly things.
- 24:19Speaker 2: If you can avoid that, you're going to be all right.
- 24:21Speaker 2: But anytime you play in the swamp, man, weird stuff happens.
- 24:26Speaker 1: All right, so this game's over on Saturday night, and
- 24:28Speaker 1: Ole Miss won. What are we probably saying Ole Miss
- 24:31Speaker 1: did successfully?
- 24:33Speaker 2: Ole Miss just played a good ball game, and there
- 24:35Speaker 2: was no letdown. They actually really showed up because everybody,
- 24:41Speaker 2: everything around this game is about the emotional fall off
- 24:43Speaker 2: of the LSU game. If LSU wins or Ole Miss
- 24:47Speaker 2: wins this game against Florida, Ole Miss will be the
- 24:50Speaker 2: fourth team in the BCS or college football playoff to
- 24:54Speaker 2: win a ranked game three times in the month of September.
- 24:58Speaker 2: The other ones was Ohio State in 2006, second one
- 25:02Speaker 2: LSU in 2011, third one Clemson in 2017. All three
- 25:06Speaker 2: of those played for the national championship that year.
- 25:08Speaker 1: That was the national championship that my husband won, uh,
- 25:12Speaker 1: that 16. So I guess it didn't bode well for
- 25:15Speaker 1: Ohio state, but I guess I got him there.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Okay.
- 25:17Speaker 1: So now I need your permit permit. The, I need
- 25:20Speaker 1: your prediction and I want to know what is the
- 25:23Speaker 1: one matchup that you think ultimately decides Florida Ole Miss.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Um, I think Ole Miss wins the game 34 to
- 25:31Speaker 2: 28 and the matchup is Caleb Odom against whichever inside
- 25:35Speaker 2: safety is on him at that time. Uh, I don't
- 25:38Speaker 2: know how they're so multiple on defense. It's not a
- 25:41Speaker 2: one-on-one type thing. But Caleb Odom versus the safeties in
- 25:45Speaker 2: that secondary is going to determine a lot about this
- 25:47Speaker 2: football game. All right.
