- 0:02Speaker 1: Great, great weekend of games. Braun Palar and krats with
- 0:08Speaker 1: you for a little Monday ft and we're going to
- 0:11Speaker 1: talk to the man of the weekend during this show,
- 0:15Speaker 1: Joe Adele. If you're a podcast only listener, Apple, Spotify, wherever,
- 0:20Speaker 1: you'll get that episode probably the next day, just for
- 0:23Speaker 1: you to know, we break those episodes up. I like
- 0:25Speaker 1: to remind people from time to time, but you can
- 0:26Speaker 1: always catch everything full live thing on YouTube. Also, if
- 0:30Speaker 1: you're in the Chicago area on Marquee, great to see
- 0:33Speaker 1: you both. And also we made a little announcement last night,
- 0:38Speaker 1: So KP, you guys recently launched your show A Blue
- 0:43Speaker 1: Bird Territory. You have a rival bird bird Land Territory
- 0:47Speaker 1: in the American League east of the teams remaining that
- 0:51Speaker 1: we don't cover consistently. This was the most requested so
- 0:55Speaker 1: we are excited to announce the launch of that show.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Former Orioles all star Brad Rock joining Steve Macjuski and
- 1:02Speaker 1: Tim Barberlace. So we're excited to have those three, they know,
- 1:05Speaker 1: the Orioles back in front, left and right. What do
- 1:07Speaker 1: you think of the logo, KP.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I was gonna say, that's the thing I'm jealous. The
- 1:12Speaker 2: most of the crab on home plate is a great
- 1:15Speaker 2: touch and obviously the iconic brick building, tremendous logo. Whoever
- 1:20Speaker 2: came up with that, they nailed it one hundred percent.
- 1:22Speaker 2: That's like the epitome of Baltimore right there.
- 1:26Speaker 3: Crab cakes and football, that's what we do.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Well, I guess crabcakes and baseball now, right, baseball is
- 1:35Speaker 2: what we do.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Yes last year, maybe not as much baseball after the
- 1:40Speaker 1: first month and change, but I know the team has
- 1:43Speaker 1: been off to a slow start. I'm less concerned about
- 1:45Speaker 1: this team than last year's team. Is it going to
- 1:47Speaker 1: be a fight, Will they make the playoffs? I don't know.
- 1:50Speaker 1: But we're going to talk to Steve later. He's going
- 1:51Speaker 1: to join us. We'll congratulate him, and then he'll give
- 1:53Speaker 1: us the whole lowdown on the first weekend change of
- 1:57Speaker 1: games for the Orioles. One other theme this weekend that
- 2:02Speaker 1: I think was overshadowed by Joe Adele, which is nice,
- 2:06Speaker 1: was injuries. We had a ton of injuries compared to say,
- 2:10Speaker 1: the prior weekend. So we're gonna start with one. Here's
- 2:15Speaker 1: charging them out, all right, KP will start with Mookie
- 2:19Speaker 1: Bets so he leaves Saturday's game. They thought maybe it
- 2:22Speaker 1: was from an ab He tweaked his back, he's he walks,
- 2:26Speaker 1: he scores on the Freddie Freeman Devil Boom. He's out
- 2:28Speaker 1: of the game. It's like, all right, back, might not
- 2:31Speaker 1: be too bad. Maybe we'll take a series off. He's
- 2:33Speaker 1: about to go play up in the turf in Toronto. Nope,
- 2:37Speaker 1: it's an oblique, a right oblique for him, and the
- 2:40Speaker 1: standard for that's four to six weeks. Dave Roberts, Dodgers manager,
- 2:43Speaker 1: said he was hesitant to put a timetable down. He
- 2:46Speaker 1: thinks that time missed could be less than that. Katie
- 2:49Speaker 1: Woo was all over this story all weekend. You can
- 2:51Speaker 1: hear her on Dodgers territory this week. But kp your
- 2:54Speaker 1: thoughts on the Dodgers losing Mookie bets for perhaps a
- 2:57Speaker 1: month and more.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Yeah, first of all, kind of interesting that it's oblique,
- 3:01Speaker 2: because typically oblique is something that even the people watching
- 3:04Speaker 2: on TV could notice.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Normally it's synonymous with the swing, and you see guys
- 3:09Speaker 2: grab their side and you pretty much know immediately they've
- 3:13Speaker 2: done something to their oblique. The fact that it kind
- 3:15Speaker 2: of happened within the game, that it didn't happen on
- 3:19Speaker 2: a particular swing, or that he didn't indicate that it
- 3:21Speaker 2: happened on a particular swing and said that it was
- 3:24Speaker 2: a back tightness or feeling in his back is a
- 3:27Speaker 2: little interesting and it'll be curious to know, you know,
- 3:30Speaker 2: if he speaks to the media where it comes out,
- 3:32Speaker 2: you know, how the injury actually happened. But I mean,
- 3:36Speaker 2: if the Dodgers, if there's a team that could kind
- 3:39Speaker 2: of overcome losing their starting shortstop and a superstar like
- 3:43Speaker 2: movie Bets, the Dodgers are built for this, you know,
- 3:47Speaker 2: and maybe perfect timing, you know. Insert Miguel Rojas going
- 3:50Speaker 2: back to Toronto. You know, I think he had recently
- 3:53Speaker 2: talked about never being booed in his career, and I
- 3:55Speaker 2: think he's probably gonna get booed pretty heavily.
- 3:58Speaker 3: You know.
- 3:59Speaker 2: It's oh so famili year in Toronto Blue Jays and
- 4:02Speaker 2: Blue Jay fans everywhere's mind what he was able to
- 4:04Speaker 2: do in Game seven and eventually helped lead his team
- 4:08Speaker 2: to back to back World Series titles. So it's a
- 4:12Speaker 2: tough blow for Mookie Bets because you know, he he
- 4:16Speaker 2: just never really got his best foot forward last year.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Obviously played tremendous shortstop last year, which is incredible given
- 4:23Speaker 2: how great he was as a right fielder to kind
- 4:26Speaker 2: of step into that role and be arguably one of
- 4:28Speaker 2: the best defensive shortstops in the game. But offensively after
- 4:32Speaker 2: the you know, trip to Japan and the illness and
- 4:36Speaker 2: losing all the weight, wait, he just never really got
- 4:38Speaker 2: back on track, and he talked about how hard he
- 4:41Speaker 2: worked this offseason and felt like he was going to
- 4:44Speaker 2: be the guy we've expected Mookie Bets to be. It's
- 4:46Speaker 2: kind of a tough blow for him, but the Dodgers
- 4:48Speaker 2: are built to kind of overcome something like this for
- 4:51Speaker 2: a short period of time.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Yeah, they're definitely built overcome it. And Miguel Rojas can
- 4:56Speaker 4: play shortstop at the big league level, to play one
- 5:00Speaker 4: hundred and sixty two. No, But the fact that they
- 5:02Speaker 4: have Hasung Kim and it's really working out well for
- 5:06Speaker 4: him that they sent him down to the bushes to
- 5:09Speaker 4: Triple A to get at bats, so he's been playing
- 5:12Speaker 4: the entire time. He's continuing to rake, just like he
- 5:15Speaker 4: raked in in spring training, and I thought he should
- 5:18Speaker 4: have made the team. Like it's just another case of
- 5:22Speaker 4: where they have incredible depth to be able to step
- 5:26Speaker 4: in and not play every single day at short, not
- 5:29Speaker 4: play every single day at second, but spell Freeland a
- 5:33Speaker 4: couple of times, spell Miggi Rowe a couple times, and
- 5:37Speaker 4: by the time Mookie comes back, the team will feel
- 5:40Speaker 4: like they probably never missed a beat. And then they
- 5:42Speaker 4: get a possible future Hall of Famer and Mookie bets back.
- 5:45Speaker 4: And it's something that I saw a bunch of people
- 5:49Speaker 4: once he went on theo il. You know, oh, he
- 5:51Speaker 4: shouldn't have been doing all that stuff that he was
- 5:54Speaker 4: doing with since I forget what his last name is,
- 5:59Speaker 4: but he the trainer, Yamamoto's trainer, Like, that's not what happens.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Like, all you're.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Doing is your unless you're doing something that's gonna hurt
- 6:09Speaker 4: your body. All those exercises are helping you. So maybe
- 6:14Speaker 4: it's not as bad as it was originally gonna be.
- 6:17Speaker 4: But it wasn't the throwing the javelin or having sense
- 6:23Speaker 4: on his shoulders or anything like that. It was just
- 6:26Speaker 4: something that happens. And this is what happens when you
- 6:29Speaker 4: have an older team, You get injuries like this. But
- 6:32Speaker 4: the Dodgers are built for it, and it's totally fine.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Also, bleaks are from swings, right, guys, Generally not all, I.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Mean, oh, for the most Ultimately, ultimately, obliques are from
- 6:46Speaker 4: something else. I mean, if you talk to any kind
- 6:48Speaker 4: of athletic trainer, it's some other deficiency. I'm not saying
- 6:52Speaker 4: that he was injured somewhere else, but you know, athletic
- 6:56Speaker 4: trainers and physical therapists will be like, well, you know
- 6:59Speaker 4: your hips are not rotating at this there's an imbalance somewhere.
- 7:03Speaker 4: Your oblique won't go just in general, It's not like, oh,
- 7:08Speaker 4: I landed on my shoulder and my shoulder popped out
- 7:11Speaker 4: of place. It's not like that. It's not just your
- 7:14Speaker 4: oblique doesn't go out from just a swing. It goes
- 7:18Speaker 4: out because maybe you're not rotating enough, maybe you're you know,
- 7:21Speaker 4: something's not warmed up enough. It's you know, there's always
- 7:25Speaker 4: different things that correlate to in oblique.
- 7:30Speaker 1: With over thirty five million downloads, what is the number
- 7:34Speaker 1: one rated ticketing out Todd Father.
- 7:36Speaker 5: It's simple, man, see geek as we know, man, they
- 7:38Speaker 5: have a lot of things that helps you out along
- 7:41Speaker 5: the way. They have green dots meaning good and red
- 7:43Speaker 5: dots meaning bad. And it's on a scale of one
- 7:45Speaker 5: to ten, showing you, Scott how good the seats are.
- 7:49Speaker 5: And sometimes you want to sit in the nosebleach theer's
- 7:50Speaker 5: sometimes you want to sit in really good seats and Scott,
- 7:53Speaker 5: you know the code.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Right, yeah?
- 7:54Speaker 2: I do.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And also I know that you always like a good deal. Oh,
- 7:56Speaker 1: so SEEKI helps you out all the time with that.
- 7:59Speaker 1: They also help you out with the exclusive FT code
- 8:02Speaker 1: which is Territory ten for ten percent off your next

- 8:12Speaker 1: one zero. Make sure you click the link in the
- 8:15Speaker 1: description to download the app and you can have that
- 8:17Speaker 1: code automatically added to your account so that you can
- 8:19Speaker 1: use it later. There are regular season MLB games going
- 8:23Speaker 1: on right now. There are hot tickets across the country,
- 8:26Speaker 1: so make sure you go to sea Geek. They will
- 8:28Speaker 1: take care of you. I want to remind everyone about
- 8:32Speaker 1: the path for the Dodgers last year. KP can tell
- 8:35Speaker 1: you firsthand from watching many Blue Jays games well and
- 8:39Speaker 1: especially watching them up close against them in the World Series.
- 8:42Speaker 1: The Dodgers were not dominating Toronto in that series. But
- 8:46Speaker 1: also let's go back even further KP. The Dodgers didn't
- 8:49Speaker 1: even get themselves a bye last year in the postseason. Again,
- 8:52Speaker 1: I know that they ended up on top, but you
- 8:54Speaker 1: certainly are playing with a little bit of fire. So
- 8:56Speaker 1: that's all I want to add is we have these
- 8:59Speaker 1: conversations about how good this team can be in the
- 9:01Speaker 1: regular season. Are they going to win one hundred and
- 9:03Speaker 1: ten games like we talked about last year? And me
- 9:06Speaker 1: kratz Aj were all very adamant that this team's going
- 9:09Speaker 1: to go through adversity just like any other ball club.
- 9:11Speaker 1: We can get into rookie Sazaki in a minute too,
- 9:13Speaker 1: as he looked terrible his fastball. Comman's a mess. Doesn't
- 9:17Speaker 1: look like he has a three pitch repertoire right now,
- 9:19Speaker 1: so he's looking more like a reliever unless he fixes things.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Point is, it's not the perfect team. I know it
- 9:25Speaker 1: looks much more perfect than many other teams, and they've
- 9:28Speaker 1: built themselves well for the postseason, but they're waiting for
- 9:31Speaker 1: Blake Snell to come back. Now Mookie goes down, They're
- 9:34Speaker 1: going to go through some issues, and I don't think
- 9:36Speaker 1: they're necessarily going to blow away the competition in the
- 9:39Speaker 1: regular season.
- 9:41Speaker 2: I don't think they need to either. I think this
- 9:43Speaker 2: team is got their eye on postseason baseball, and when
- 9:47Speaker 2: you do a year in and year out. And I
- 9:49Speaker 2: was fortunate to play with the Dodgers for a short
- 9:52Speaker 2: amount of time and just listening to their conversations. At
- 9:56Speaker 2: some point, yes, do they want to win the National
- 9:59Speaker 2: League West. Do they want to secure a buy in
- 10:02Speaker 2: the first round. Absolutely, but not at the risk of
- 10:04Speaker 2: their health, not at the risk of overextending some of
- 10:07Speaker 2: their guys. There's a reason we haven't seen back to
- 10:11Speaker 2: back World Series champions in a long time. It's extremely
- 10:13Speaker 2: difficult to even just make the postseason year in and
- 10:16Speaker 2: year out. It's almost impossible to get to the World
- 10:19Speaker 2: Series back to back years and then ultimately win it
- 10:22Speaker 2: like the Dodgers did, had been done in a long time.
- 10:24Speaker 2: So yes, this team kind of looks like the perfect team,
- 10:28Speaker 2: this super team on paper. But much like when I
- 10:32Speaker 2: was in Atlanta and they were winning division after division,
- 10:34Speaker 2: you know, at some point, I don't want to say
- 10:37Speaker 2: you get accustomed to it or used to it, but
- 10:39Speaker 2: I think your priorities changed. They're no longer concerned about
- 10:42Speaker 2: hanging NLS championships up in Dodger stadium. They're trying to
- 10:46Speaker 2: hate hang World Series banners, and if it takes them
- 10:49Speaker 2: a little bit of a bumpy road to get there,
- 10:51Speaker 2: because ultimately they do feel like they're one of the
- 10:54Speaker 2: best five or sixteens in the National League. Regardless of
- 10:57Speaker 2: what they go through, they just want to get into
- 10:58Speaker 2: the postseason. And then once postseason comes around, then they
- 11:02Speaker 2: hit that gas pedal and they.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Go yep, and they do get to try some guys out.
- 11:07Speaker 1: I mean, one of the issues crats that you'll have
- 11:10Speaker 1: with a team like this is playing time. So now
- 11:14Speaker 1: Alex Friedland gets his chance to play somewhat regularly at
- 11:18Speaker 1: second base until guys like Tommy Edmund eventually come back.
- 11:21Speaker 1: You know, Kikyo Hernandez is eventually going to come back.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Of course, Mooki will come back maybe in a month
- 11:26Speaker 1: or so. And then on the other side, Kim gets
- 11:28Speaker 1: a chance. How many teams would have cut Kim in
- 11:31Speaker 1: spring training and sent him back to Triple A in baseball?
- 11:34Speaker 1: How many teams do you think, maybe.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Not not paying them, not paying them twelve million over
- 11:38Speaker 4: three years, No chance like you can have, you can
- 11:42Speaker 4: have a position that you're like, Okay, this guy's leaving
- 11:44Speaker 4: here in the next few years, we'll bring him in.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I get it.
- 11:47Speaker 4: He's gonna make three million in Triple A like no
- 11:51Speaker 4: nobody would have, especially with the spring training. Everybody's coming
- 11:55Speaker 4: out of spring. Well, I didn't have this guy or
- 11:57Speaker 4: that guy didn't have a good spring, So it's fine
- 11:58Speaker 4: that they send him to Triple A.
- 12:00Speaker 3: I sunk Kim.
- 12:01Speaker 4: I think he hit four hundred and four to nine
- 12:03Speaker 4: or something in spring training, like he was ready to go.
- 12:05Speaker 4: If you're worried about that kind of thing, but very few,
- 12:09Speaker 4: very few have that. Very few have that luxury. And
- 12:14Speaker 4: the reality is how much they're paying him.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Isn't that much.
- 12:18Speaker 4: People will be like, oh, you see they had all
- 12:20Speaker 4: this extra money. Now look who's playing shortstop and second
- 12:23Speaker 4: base for him, Mickey Rowe. He was plenty available for
- 12:28Speaker 4: quite a few years to be able to go out
- 12:30Speaker 4: and be had by plenty of teams. I sunk Kim
- 12:34Speaker 4: is not making that much money. And Alice Freeland, I
- 12:38Speaker 4: think is still on the minimum. I don't even think
- 12:41Speaker 4: he has a year of service. If he does have
- 12:43Speaker 4: a year, it's not that much more than.
- 12:45Speaker 1: A year, right, So yeah, some of these guys are
- 12:50Speaker 1: more bargain Bin shopping, but it gives you the depth
- 12:52Speaker 1: that's the whole difference maker during the regular season, KP.
- 12:56Speaker 1: There are plenty of talented players in the minor leagues.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Often they're not ready yet taken tribute here. Let's use
- 13:01Speaker 1: this example. The Angels are known to call players up
- 13:06Speaker 1: very quickly, right. The Dodgers often put young players in
- 13:11Speaker 1: a position where it's really tough to find playing time.
- 13:14Speaker 1: There's a reason for that because when you lose Mookie Betts,
- 13:17Speaker 1: can you replace a player with another player who should
- 13:20Speaker 1: be on a major league roster already. And that's where
- 13:23Speaker 1: Kim comes up and they're able to have the Rojas
- 13:25Speaker 1: freelance situation going on.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, when you're trying to win championships, you know,
- 13:30Speaker 2: sometimes you have to make some tough decisions and pay
- 13:32Speaker 2: some guys like Kim to be in the minor leagues.
- 13:35Speaker 2: But ultimately they know what's going to take more than
- 13:38Speaker 2: twenty six guys in order to get to where they
- 13:40Speaker 2: want to go. It might not be some of those
- 13:43Speaker 2: guys that maybe are deserving to be on the team
- 13:45Speaker 2: at the very beginning of the season, but it's going
- 13:48Speaker 2: to take an army of guys and what the Dodgers
- 13:50Speaker 2: do is they go out and they acquire guys, and
- 13:52Speaker 2: they make it very difficult in order for their young
- 13:55Speaker 2: guys to get a chance in the big leagues because
- 13:58Speaker 2: typically they go out and acquire the best players at
- 14:01Speaker 2: all the positions, and every once in a while you
- 14:04Speaker 2: run into a situation where you got a guy on
- 14:07Speaker 2: the injured list and Tommy Edmond and it allows a
- 14:10Speaker 2: young guy an opportunity to go out there, establish himself,
- 14:12Speaker 2: get his feet wet, and more than likely that guy
- 14:16Speaker 2: just come becomes trade bait for you know, down the
- 14:19Speaker 2: deadline where they feel like they need to go out
- 14:21Speaker 2: and you know, maybe add a bullpen arm or a
- 14:23Speaker 2: starting pitcher. Just you think about some of the guys
- 14:25Speaker 2: that have in Triple A right now. They have guys
- 14:27Speaker 2: that consistently are up there and winning PCL MVPs every
- 14:32Speaker 2: season year, every year, and they can't sniff the opening
- 14:35Speaker 2: day roster. Maybe they get an opportunity at some point
- 14:39Speaker 2: due to an injury, but they have so many talented
- 14:42Speaker 2: players in their organization. And then you think about teams
- 14:45Speaker 2: like the Angels that rush their guys to the big leagues,
- 14:47Speaker 2: and you know, if you're a young guy getting drafted
- 14:50Speaker 2: by the Angels. It's got to make you smile, ear
- 14:52Speaker 2: to ear that. You know you're gonna get an opportunity
- 14:55Speaker 2: to come in and have a chance to move through
- 14:58Speaker 2: the system fairly quickly. But you see how these two
- 15:01Speaker 2: organizations are are run. You know, one team is you know,
- 15:05Speaker 2: considered a lat laughing stock of the league, and one
- 15:08Speaker 2: team is going for three World Series in a row.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Hey, and on the topic of playing time, krats, curious
- 15:14Speaker 1: to get your thoughts on rookie Sasaki. The numbers run
- 15:17Speaker 1: prevention wise were okay from the first outing. I mean,
- 15:20Speaker 1: he still looked shaky if he actually watched. He was
- 15:23Speaker 1: terrible in spring Who cares. You can throw spring starts out.
- 15:26Speaker 1: That's fine as long as the player produces and looks
- 15:28Speaker 1: different in the regular season. It looked like more of
- 15:33Speaker 1: the version of rookie Sazaki from spring training over the weekend.
- 15:37Speaker 4: Obviously, they're gonna give him a lot of a lot
- 15:40Speaker 4: of leash here. They're gonna give him a lot of opportunity.
- 15:42Speaker 3: You don't, you don't.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Let's see stat line five hits, three walks, five k's,
- 15:48Speaker 4: and five innings. So that's encouraging, but you don't get
- 15:50Speaker 4: ninety pitches. When you have three walks, five hits, and
- 15:54Speaker 4: you give up six runs. Uh, this is a Nats
- 15:58Speaker 4: team that is going to struggle for the most part
- 16:01Speaker 4: besides cj Abrams Lyle and James Wood and the fact
- 16:08Speaker 4: that he wasn't able to command it enough to stay
- 16:11Speaker 4: away from to stay away from damage, but also to
- 16:16Speaker 4: be able to throw the ball on the zone enough.
- 16:19Speaker 4: It's confusing to me because he was not a finished product,
- 16:25Speaker 4: and I was confused that they didn't have him just
- 16:29Speaker 4: continue to work on the things that he needed to
- 16:31Speaker 4: work on that they talked about, like the Dodgers talked
- 16:34Speaker 4: about the fact that that third pitch developing. That third
- 16:37Speaker 4: pitch to me, I don't even necessarily care what the
- 16:41Speaker 4: numbers are on that third pitch. I need him to
- 16:44Speaker 4: throw it enough to be able to get used to
- 16:46Speaker 4: it to then make his other two pitches, which I
- 16:48Speaker 4: think are above average, much more successful.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I was just going to talk this week about how
- 16:58Speaker 1: I felt like this was a light year from spring
- 17:01Speaker 1: training to the start of the season for injuries to
- 17:04Speaker 1: big names. I felt like it was a light year
- 17:06Speaker 1: pitching injuries, Tommy Johns, the whole thing, and then all
- 17:08Speaker 1: of a sudden, this weekend just hit us like a
- 17:10Speaker 1: ton of bricks. So we're going to talk about Sodo
- 17:12Speaker 1: going down Trout, We're gonna talk about Hunter Brown, among
- 17:16Speaker 1: others that will try and get to Alejandro Kirk. Let's
- 17:18Speaker 1: start with Juan Soto. That's the most recent from a
- 17:21Speaker 1: news perspective, KP. I don't know if you've ever dealt
- 17:23Speaker 1: with a calf before, but he's out with the calf.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Mets fortunately actually blow up on offense for the couple
- 17:28Speaker 1: games while he's out, but they're going to miss him
- 17:30Speaker 1: now for two to three weeks.
- 17:32Speaker 3: He had said he.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Felt better the first night after, you know, he comes back,
- 17:36Speaker 1: shows up to the ballpark, people think he's going to
- 17:38Speaker 1: be in the lineup, but the calf can kind of
- 17:40Speaker 1: sneak back and bite you again. You usually see guys
- 17:44Speaker 1: miss time, and doctors and trainers, I just know this
- 17:47Speaker 1: from covering the sport for a while usually emphasize guys
- 17:50Speaker 1: to take a little extra time because it can really
- 17:52Speaker 1: linger if you don't.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yeah. Fortunately I never had a calf injury in my career,
- 17:57Speaker 2: but I've definitely heard stories of guys who may feel
- 18:01Speaker 2: a little something in their calf and they show up
- 18:03Speaker 2: the next day and they feel great. I mean, that's
- 18:06Speaker 2: the beauty of MRI machines. Maybe it shows something, maybe
- 18:09Speaker 2: it didn't show something. But to your point, calves can
- 18:11Speaker 2: be very tricky. It's not worth risking an actual tear
- 18:16Speaker 2: in the calf. It could be a little strain, it
- 18:18Speaker 2: could be a little inflammation. But I think the Mets
- 18:21Speaker 2: made the right decision not having one Sodo try to
- 18:24Speaker 2: push through this early in the year. It can be
- 18:27Speaker 2: a tricky thing. And hopefully it's only two or three
- 18:30Speaker 2: weeks because you know, obviously the Mets lineup, but baseball
- 18:32Speaker 2: is in a better place when one Soda is playing.
- 18:37Speaker 4: Maybe he won't go forty to forty this year, Maybe
- 18:39Speaker 4: that's calf injury. We'll slow him down a little bit
- 18:43Speaker 4: on the basis. But for everybody who online was like,
- 18:46Speaker 4: we'll see they score more without him in the lineup,
- 18:49Speaker 4: Like he must just be a terrible teammate or something
- 18:53Speaker 4: like that. No, this dude, the Mets, the Pirates, the Yankees, whoever,
- 18:59Speaker 4: whatever line he's in, he makes won Soto makes them better.
- 19:03Speaker 4: So yes, they want him to rush back, but no,
- 19:07Speaker 4: they shouldn't rush him back because you don't want this
- 19:10Speaker 4: to linger, especially the fact that he's out in left field.
- 19:13Speaker 3: He's on it every day.
- 19:14Speaker 4: It's not like he's dhing so and in three weeks
- 19:18Speaker 4: when it comes back, we'll have more consistent weather. I
- 19:20Speaker 4: think some of these injuries obviously hit by pitches, eh, whatever,
- 19:24Speaker 4: but some of this stuff is the inconsistent weather. Hey,
- 19:27Speaker 4: we played yesterday it was eighty Now we're playing tonight
- 19:30Speaker 4: and it's fifty four degrees.
- 19:31Speaker 3: It's a little cooler.
- 19:33Speaker 4: So yeah, this is a tough time of year, and
- 19:36Speaker 4: it's good that they're going to take it, take it decide.
- 19:39Speaker 3: They're just gonna be a little bit more cautious with it. Yeah.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I mean, he's one of the best hitters in the
- 19:44Speaker 1: sport and now they're going to miss him for most
- 19:48Speaker 1: of the month, most of April, if not all of April.
- 19:51Speaker 1: That's not good. Super consistent. Yeah, it's okay, but it's
- 19:54Speaker 1: not good. I mean, it's not good for a team
- 19:56Speaker 1: that's going to be fighting for a spot in a
- 19:58Speaker 1: very good National league in general. Right we're looking at
- 20:01Speaker 1: some teams that are off to some hotter starts, Like
- 20:04Speaker 1: I'll throw one out there, since we want to have
- 20:05Speaker 1: time otherwise, and the Reds look really good after a
- 20:08Speaker 1: strong weekend. Their pitching staff looks ridiculous. That's the team
- 20:11Speaker 1: that jumped over them last year late in the season.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I think they're going to be a thread again in
- 20:14Speaker 1: a wild card spot. So just things to keep an
- 20:16Speaker 1: eye on. You gotta be careful. You can't lose one
- 20:19Speaker 1: for the long term. But they'll be without him for
- 20:21Speaker 1: two to three weeks. It sounds like Mike Trout's going
- 20:24Speaker 1: to be okay, but he got hit by a pitch
- 20:27Speaker 1: and krats. If this happened, I would say even ten
- 20:33Speaker 1: to fifteen years ago and beyond, you know, before that,
- 20:36Speaker 1: there would have been a good old fashioned brawl in
- 20:38Speaker 1: the Mariners Angels series. They pitched inside a lot to him,
- 20:41Speaker 1: and it takes a lot for Trout to say anything
- 20:44Speaker 1: mean about someone. He's a super nice guy. And even
- 20:46Speaker 1: he was like, hey, here's the quote. We know they're
- 20:50Speaker 1: trying to get me out fastballs up and in. So
- 20:52Speaker 1: it's just frustrating. You know, if you can't control it
- 20:54Speaker 1: up there, you shouldn't do it. So it is what
- 20:56Speaker 1: it is.
- 20:58Speaker 4: Who's the guy, who's the guy that you're not gonna
- 21:01Speaker 4: let beat you in the Angels lineup Mike Trout. So
- 21:04Speaker 4: when you go up there and you say, Mike Trout
- 21:06Speaker 4: has been since twenty fourteen when we faced him in
- 21:10Speaker 4: the playoffs, you gotta elevate him. You gotta you gotta
- 21:15Speaker 4: just across elevation across because one, he's not gonna swing
- 21:20Speaker 4: at it if it's off the plate. Two when he
- 21:23Speaker 4: swings at it, that's where he does less damage. He
- 21:26Speaker 4: fouls a lot of those balls off to me. I
- 21:28Speaker 4: think as a player he's learned over his career to
- 21:33Speaker 4: be able to let those go, but then also to
- 21:36Speaker 4: do more contact, do more damage up in a way.
- 21:39Speaker 4: So they've started to come in and if he's the
- 21:41Speaker 4: guy that you're not gonna let beat you, especially when
- 21:43Speaker 4: you're playing close games like they were this series. Every
- 21:46Speaker 4: game was one run at you know, deep into the
- 21:49Speaker 4: game you're gonna miss You're gonna miss in. Sorry like that,
- 21:53Speaker 4: that's part of it. If the Angels don't like it,
- 21:56Speaker 4: they should have been retaliating after Wu did what he
- 21:58Speaker 4: did to me. You have to go to the Mariners'
- 22:01Speaker 4: best hitter and you have to do the exact same thing.
- 22:04Speaker 4: I'm not saying you go head hunting that's not what
- 22:06Speaker 4: I'm saying. You got to move their guy because they
- 22:09Speaker 4: moved your guy or else They're just going to continue
- 22:11Speaker 4: to do it.
- 22:12Speaker 3: And I think that's what they did the rest of
- 22:14Speaker 3: the series.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Well, they did go after Julio, didn't they, Or I mean,
- 22:18Speaker 1: at least it appeared that way on what was it
- 22:21Speaker 1: on Friday?
- 22:23Speaker 3: No, I could be off there in the WU game.
- 22:27Speaker 1: No, Well, the WU game was yesterday, right Sunday. WU
- 22:32Speaker 1: hit him right.
- 22:33Speaker 3: Now, WU came. WU came.
- 22:36Speaker 4: Yeah early early in the series though, he came up
- 22:39Speaker 4: and in that one was scary, and then he hit
- 22:41Speaker 4: him up and in I think the next pitch. So
- 22:45Speaker 4: I I thought the WU game was the sat the
- 22:47Speaker 4: Friday game, and then yes, sorry, when they went after Julio,
- 22:53Speaker 4: I didn't think. I didn't think. I don't know. I
- 22:56Speaker 4: didn't think that was necessare like the marriers are good pictures.
- 23:03Speaker 4: The marriers are good pictures. They're making a concerted effort
- 23:06Speaker 4: to go in on Trout, and you have to be
- 23:10Speaker 4: up no matter why, you never go down. Trout just
- 23:13Speaker 4: drops a head to it and does damage down there.
- 23:15Speaker 4: Whether he's going to be fifty years old or when
- 23:18Speaker 4: he was a rookie. That's where he's always done damage
- 23:21Speaker 4: and will always do damage, and you just you can't
- 23:24Speaker 4: allow that to happen and you've got to be able
- 23:27Speaker 4: to retaliate. Sounds bad, but it's more like, hey, you're
- 23:33Speaker 4: protecting your guys.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and X rays we're negative on the hand, So
- 23:39Speaker 1: that's good. We'll find out if there's more to the
- 23:41Speaker 1: story in terms of missing a little bit of time.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Next up, KP, we need your insight here. As the
- 23:47Speaker 1: man on the Blue Jays show and covering this team
- 23:49Speaker 1: all year, Alejandro Kirk goes down hand for a thumb
- 23:53Speaker 1: fracture that is left thumb for him, not throwing hand,
- 23:56Speaker 1: but still they're going to miss him for what it
- 23:58Speaker 1: sounds like four to six weeks.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I mean as crassy, I mean, it's probably worse that
- 24:05Speaker 2: it happened to his catching hand than his throwing hand.
- 24:08Speaker 2: I don't think there's a you know, a body part
- 24:13Speaker 2: more valuable to a catcher than his his catching thumb.
- 24:16Speaker 2: The way catchers are taught to work underneath the ball.
- 24:19Speaker 2: And for someone who's had multiple thumb surgeries and thumb
- 24:22Speaker 2: injuries in his career, it sucks. It takes a long
- 24:26Speaker 2: time to get that confidence and that strength back. And
- 24:30Speaker 2: granted I'm only using an outfield glove to be able
- 24:33Speaker 2: to work underneath the ball, it's going to be. It's
- 24:35Speaker 2: gonna be some time. And I think the bigger concern,
- 24:38Speaker 2: more than the fracture, is they said there was a
- 24:41Speaker 2: dislocation when it happened, and more than likely for my experience,
- 24:46Speaker 2: when there's a dislocation, something shifts in there, and that's
- 24:49Speaker 2: usually a ligament, right, And I'm just concerned. I think
- 24:52Speaker 2: today Monday, he was supposed to be going to see
- 24:56Speaker 2: a specialist actually in your neck of the woods, Crassy.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Maybe you should, you know, drop by and get some
- 25:01Speaker 2: inside info, like wait outside the hospital and get you know,
- 25:05Speaker 2: the early report on what's going on with this thumb.
- 25:08Speaker 2: He's up there in Lehigh Valley seeing a hand specialist
- 25:11Speaker 2: right now. But I don't think there's anyone more valuable,
- 25:15Speaker 2: maybe except for Vladimir Guerrero to this team's success. What
- 25:19Speaker 2: he does behind the plate with the pitching staff. He's
- 25:22Speaker 2: also the guy, I believe when push comes to shove,
- 25:26Speaker 2: he is going to be the guy who ends up
- 25:27Speaker 2: hitting behind Vladdie because he offers the most consistent approach
- 25:31Speaker 2: and at bats throughout the season. It's a tough it's
- 25:35Speaker 2: a tough loss for the Blue Jays.
- 25:37Speaker 4: Spot on, I'm not going to even talk about what
- 25:39Speaker 4: he means the team. I'm going to talk about what
- 25:41Speaker 4: he means to the pitching staff because the lineup, yes,
- 25:44Speaker 4: we know what he does, but that pitching staff, he like,
- 25:48Speaker 4: there's so much value.
- 25:50Speaker 3: That he adds.
- 25:50Speaker 4: Tyler Hyneman had an incredible year. He's going to have
- 25:53Speaker 4: to really step up and be a huge part for
- 25:57Speaker 4: this time that Alijndro's out. But my issue is exactly
- 26:01Speaker 4: what kp said, not the fracture. So many times we
- 26:06Speaker 4: have fractures, brakes, they have surgery. The bone heels stronger
- 26:10Speaker 4: than it was before. Were good. When your thumb dislocates
- 26:14Speaker 4: and you have to catch. I wore a thumb guard
- 26:18Speaker 4: my entire career. I don't know if Kirk wears a
- 26:21Speaker 4: thumb guard. I'm sure he will, But those thumb guards
- 26:24Speaker 4: essentially essentially it goes right into the thumb of your mit.
- 26:31Speaker 4: Here's the here's the thumb side of your mitt. So
- 26:33Speaker 4: when you put it in there, you're essentially extending the
- 26:38Speaker 4: entire thumb portion of your glove and a lot of
- 26:43Speaker 4: the A lot of the pain comes from this area.
- 26:46Speaker 4: When a sinker comes in here, crunch get you when
- 26:50Speaker 4: you know you're constantly getting hit, hit, hit, hit, that
- 26:53Speaker 4: thumb guard alleviates that. Well, if he doesn't come back
- 26:57Speaker 4: one even if it's like he's ninety five percent and
- 27:00Speaker 4: he feels it, one game of catching, Let's say one
- 27:05Speaker 4: hundred and fifty pitches are thrown, he might catch one
- 27:08Speaker 4: hundred and ten of them. It's like it's like pushing
- 27:12Speaker 4: on that spot. It's pushing on that thumb. That will
- 27:16Speaker 4: that will bring his receiving numbers down, That will bring
- 27:19Speaker 4: his ability to then maybe grip the back quite as
- 27:24Speaker 4: quite the same.
- 27:24Speaker 3: You know, there's a.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Lot of things. Hand injuries and feet injuries are a
- 27:29Speaker 4: bigger deal in baseball than a lot of people think.
- 27:32Speaker 4: And your thumb for catching is so important, and so
- 27:38Speaker 4: he needs to be one hundred percent healthy in that
- 27:40Speaker 4: dislocation part I think is going to possibly keep him
- 27:44Speaker 4: out a lot longer than just a fracture will Okay.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Next up a shoulder issue for Hunter Brown. Not great Kratz.
- 27:52Speaker 1: This was a top three guy for Cy Young last year.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Felt something in the shoulder during the throwing program on Friday,
- 27:58Speaker 1: and so he goes to the injured list. For now,
- 28:01Speaker 1: for Houston, that's their guy. I mean, he's a top three,
- 28:05Speaker 1: top five starter in the American League, one.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Hundred and two pitches in his first start, Like, are
- 28:12Speaker 3: they gonna is that what? We're gonna?
- 28:14Speaker 4: Blame this on the fact that he threw more than
- 28:16Speaker 4: any other starting pitcher in the game. This guy is
- 28:18Speaker 4: supposed to be the horse he has. He's like to me,
- 28:22Speaker 4: I hope, I hope that narrative gets completely debunked. But
- 28:28Speaker 4: he's on the il. He's on the il with the shoulder,
- 28:31Speaker 4: and as a horse, you have to be you have
- 28:35Speaker 4: to be healthy. Can he pitch through things, Yes, and
- 28:38Speaker 4: I'm sure he tried on Tuesday. I think that's when
- 28:41Speaker 4: he pitched. But he wants to just just hearing him
- 28:45Speaker 4: talk and hearing people in the organization talk about him.
- 28:48Speaker 4: He wants to take it to that next level. He
- 28:50Speaker 4: wants to be a thirty two to thirty three start guy,
- 28:53Speaker 4: approach two hundred innings. And this is tough to see
- 28:57Speaker 4: this early in the season, but hopefully it's precautionary and
- 29:03Speaker 4: he's able to come back and be the guy that
- 29:06Speaker 4: the team needs him to be in that horse that's
- 29:09Speaker 4: going to give them seven innings every time out.
- 29:12Speaker 1: One more team to hit. The Cubs losing two starters
- 29:15Speaker 1: in the past few days, Cad Horton, who was hurt
- 29:20Speaker 1: to end last year, and early talk is optimistic from
- 29:25Speaker 1: Sada Sharma, who covers the cups for the Athletic and
- 29:28Speaker 1: for Northside Territory. He said it started in his wrist
- 29:31Speaker 1: and got tight in his forearm, so they wanted to
- 29:33Speaker 1: be proactive. They put him on the al and then
- 29:34Speaker 1: during this show we learned that it's a left bicep
- 29:37Speaker 1: stream for Matthew Boyd that puts him on the injured
- 29:40Speaker 1: list that's retroactive to a few days ago April. Third.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Javier Side is called up to be a nice s
- 29:47Speaker 1: depth option, but KP already two big starters going down
- 29:50Speaker 1: for the Cubs, and their starting rotation aisle starts to
- 29:53Speaker 1: look really good in a way that you don't want
- 29:56Speaker 1: it to look.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Right.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Steel has been on the aisle for a while now.
- 29:59Speaker 1: They're missing a lot of talent.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's unfortunate. I mean, I think some blame
- 30:05Speaker 2: is going to be thrown at the WBC. Of course, right,
- 30:07Speaker 2: because we have to blame something, right, But yeah, with
- 30:11Speaker 2: Wharton too, I mean the crats he touched on it too.
- 30:14Speaker 2: It's just some of these injuries, honestly, just kind of
- 30:17Speaker 2: add up, and some people are going to point fingers
- 30:19Speaker 2: in a lot of different directions, you know, the preparation
- 30:22Speaker 2: of spring training, maybe the lack of you know, build
- 30:25Speaker 2: up during spring training. But a lot of these pictures
- 30:28Speaker 2: are and players are getting hurt in cold weather cities.
- 30:30Speaker 2: It's difficult when it's warm one day, cold one day,
- 30:33Speaker 2: and the body has a hard time adapting, and it's
- 30:35Speaker 2: it's tough early on in the year.
- 30:39Speaker 1: How quickly things can change crafts. We were on Friday
- 30:42Speaker 1: talking about the Mets losing to the Giants, and Lindor
- 30:45Speaker 1: had a couple issues mistakes, and then all of a sudden,
- 30:48Speaker 1: the Mets win three in a row to take down
- 30:50Speaker 1: the Giants the rest of the way. Over the weekend
- 30:53Speaker 1: we had by Tello's first ejection, Matt Chapman has I
- 30:56Speaker 1: think four errors, was it now on the weekend, not
- 31:00Speaker 1: on the weekend, sorry, on the season and then on
- 31:02Speaker 1: the season, and then had the stolen base attempt and
- 31:05Speaker 1: the ninth that that really hurt. And then here's the
- 31:08Speaker 1: Giants offense for you. And this is where I'm going
- 31:11Speaker 1: to defend Tony by Tello haters, because there's random ones
- 31:14Speaker 1: all over the internet right now. They're three and seven,
- 31:16Speaker 1: they're four games under, and their offense is ranked really
- 31:20Speaker 1: poorly in a number of spots that don't necessarily have
- 31:23Speaker 1: to do with ballpark like barrels where their last barrel
- 31:26Speaker 1: percentage last, and then the expected stats too.
- 31:31Speaker 3: Kee.
- 31:32Speaker 4: I mean, I guess that was that was kind of
- 31:35Speaker 4: that was kind of Tony's reasoning for getting thrown out,
- 31:38Speaker 4: because if he's arguing that he didn't run inside the
- 31:42Speaker 4: first baseline on that play, I mean, he's incorrect, Like
- 31:47Speaker 4: he definitely was should have been called out because he
- 31:50Speaker 4: was running inside the baseline. But that's a BIS that's abysmal.
- 31:56Speaker 4: It's a bysmal offense. And I guess the you know,
- 32:00Speaker 4: ten games sample size absolutely, I mean, up until the
- 32:03Speaker 4: Nats series the Dodgers, the Dodgers top of their order
- 32:08Speaker 4: was not hitting very well, so Phillies top of their
- 32:11Speaker 4: order was not hitting very well. The Mariners, who added
- 32:14Speaker 4: a big piece in the offseason, the top of their
- 32:17Speaker 4: order wasn't hitting very well. So teams go through this.
- 32:20Speaker 4: The issue is what has always plagued the Giants is offense,
- 32:25Speaker 4: and they kind of doubled down this offseason, getting Luis
- 32:31Speaker 4: a rise and saying, you know what, it's tough to
- 32:34Speaker 4: find power here. We already did that in May last
- 32:36Speaker 4: year when we got devors. So we'll get a rise,
- 32:40Speaker 4: and Arise has had a great start to the season.
- 32:43Speaker 4: It's just a it's it's emblematic to the fact that
- 32:49Speaker 4: this team can't make mistakes like Matt Chapman making four airs.
- 32:53Speaker 4: He'll go a whole season without making four airs, let
- 32:55Speaker 4: alone ten games. They can't have a guy get thrown
- 32:59Speaker 4: out second base. But the reason you get thrown out
- 33:02Speaker 4: stealing second base and you're down by three is because
- 33:05Speaker 4: you're like, we aren't scoring any runs. We got to
- 33:07Speaker 4: push the envelope. So it's it's here and there for
- 33:12Speaker 4: the Giants right now, and they're not playing very well
- 33:15Speaker 4: and it's a tough division.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Hots Corner Time. More from the weekend, KP. Did you
- 33:24Speaker 1: see this play from Manny Machado who has soccer skills
- 33:28Speaker 1: in Fenway?
- 33:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think Manny's reputation outside of his
- 33:34Speaker 2: teammates is why this is a big deal. Is it
- 33:38Speaker 2: not allowed to intentionally kick the ball. No, but there's
- 33:42Speaker 2: a way players have done it. It's actually a very
- 33:44Speaker 2: smart play, and if you ask his teammate who hit
- 33:47Speaker 2: that ball, he's very thankful because for people at home
- 33:50Speaker 2: who may not know when a runner interferes with the
- 33:53Speaker 2: ball and play, the guy who is hitting is awarded
- 33:57Speaker 2: a base hit. So this is the ultimate team move,
- 34:00Speaker 2: not only for his teammate who gets a hit there,
- 34:02Speaker 2: but he potentially saves a double play right there too.
- 34:04Speaker 2: But I think it's a big deal because Manny Machado
- 34:07Speaker 2: has his reputation outside of his clubhouse, you know, as
- 34:11Speaker 2: a dirty player and has done somethings potentially that has
- 34:15Speaker 2: allowed that reputation to be something that people talk about.
- 34:19Speaker 2: But everything I've heard from people that have played with
- 34:22Speaker 2: Manny say he's the greatest teammate. He's a hard worker
- 34:25Speaker 2: and they love him to death. So it's a non
- 34:28Speaker 2: issue to me. I think it's a great teammate play
- 34:30Speaker 2: by many Machado.
- 34:32Speaker 4: I'll clean it up a little bit here, KP. It
- 34:34Speaker 4: was actually a pickoff. He was on first and they
- 34:37Speaker 4: they tried to pick him off at first, so as
- 34:40Speaker 4: he's getting back to the bag, he went to kick it.
- 34:43Speaker 4: So do you still think it's a clean play because
- 34:46Speaker 4: it was really it clearly wasn't going to get picked off.
- 34:49Speaker 4: But do you think it was a clean play because
- 34:51Speaker 4: he tried to kick it and then or I tried
- 34:53Speaker 4: he did kick it and it went it went away
- 34:56Speaker 4: and he got the second.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Yeah, sorry, I sawry. I saw like the clip of it,
- 35:02Speaker 2: but I thought it was coming off the bat.
- 35:04Speaker 3: I didn't.
- 35:04Speaker 2: I don't have a chance to watch every single game.
- 35:06Speaker 2: I do apologize for that, of course. Do I feel
- 35:11Speaker 2: differently about it. I think if it was on the
- 35:15Speaker 2: base and maybe he knew he was going to be
- 35:18Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, I think Manny's just a
- 35:21Speaker 2: guy who goes out there and has fun, and I
- 35:23Speaker 2: don't think something like this is like premeditated. I think
- 35:26Speaker 2: you just have to have like a ton of baseball
- 35:28Speaker 2: instincts and yeah, maybe it's frowned upon, but I don't know.
- 35:32Speaker 2: I mean, it's Manny being Manny. I guess there's certain
- 35:34Speaker 2: players I feel like outside the clubhouse, like I said,
- 35:38Speaker 2: have a reputation of maybe doing things that people don't
- 35:41Speaker 2: like people inside the clubhouse probably go man. Manny's IQ
- 35:44Speaker 2: is so high that he was able to do this
- 35:47Speaker 2: on a fly.
- 35:48Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Is it a big deal? Probably not.
- 35:52Speaker 4: No, I don't think it's dirty. I think Manny has
- 35:54Speaker 4: done some things that I would deem immature and sometimes dirty.
- 35:59Speaker 4: This isn't one of them. I mean, you can get
- 36:01Speaker 4: pissed about it, but one. He put himself in the
- 36:05Speaker 4: way to get hit. Now, this should have been called
- 36:08Speaker 4: by the umpire. Yes it wasn't, but you really don't.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Because it's not a batted ball, because he's not technically
- 36:16Speaker 4: interfering with what's considered a live ball. He could stand
- 36:20Speaker 4: there and let it hit him anywhere.
- 36:24Speaker 3: It just was a fact that he I.
- 36:26Speaker 4: Don't know if I've ever seen anybody kick a pickoff.
- 36:30Speaker 4: I've seen guys try to like slap the ball out
- 36:32Speaker 4: of people's gloves. That's dirty. I've seen guys go back
- 36:37Speaker 4: into the base where the fielder is on like a pickoff,
- 36:41Speaker 4: Like going back in they know they're gonna be they're
- 36:44Speaker 4: gonna get there early, so they make contact with the fielder.
- 36:48Speaker 4: Because it's not the same as if it's a batted ball,
- 36:51Speaker 4: you have to let the fielder field the ball. It's
- 36:54Speaker 4: a very gray area what he did. Had it been
- 36:57Speaker 4: slowed down, had it been something that could have been replayed, yeah,
- 37:00Speaker 4: the umpire would have been like, no, this is not
- 37:02Speaker 4: you can't intentionally try to do it but live.
- 37:05Speaker 3: That's so hard to see from for an umpire.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Hard to see for an ump and hard to kick
- 37:12Speaker 1: for a player. I mean that's good.
- 37:14Speaker 3: It's a really good player here, it is.
- 37:16Speaker 1: It is impressive.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Yeah, you got to sacrifice your own body to do
- 37:18Speaker 2: It's not like a backpick from a catcher doesn't hurt, right,
- 37:22Speaker 2: So one, you've got to have like the you know,
- 37:25Speaker 2: the IQ to be like oh man like and the
- 37:27Speaker 2: instincts to be able to do it. And secondly, yeah,
- 37:30Speaker 2: it's a little bit selfless because you know it hurts.
- 37:32Speaker 2: You know, as you know, krats best arms on the
- 37:35Speaker 2: field are behind the plate.
- 37:38Speaker 4: No outfielders, you guys are You guys are the primadonnas.
- 37:41Speaker 4: You guys just don't get to warm your arms up.
- 37:43Speaker 4: We our arms stay hot so we don't throw it
- 37:46Speaker 4: as hard as you outfielders.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Well, I want to get to the outfielders. So one
- 37:50Speaker 1: more topic here in hot Corner Roman Anthony. This is
- 37:54Speaker 1: from the weekend where Alex Corus said that he needs
- 37:57Speaker 1: to work on his throwing, in his footwork in the outfield.
- 37:59Speaker 1: So you're seeing more Jaron Duran playing out there right
- 38:02Speaker 1: now and less of Anthony. This is always that dynamic
- 38:06Speaker 1: KP of how do you get better without playing time?
- 38:10Speaker 1: I know you can do things before and after games,
- 38:13Speaker 1: but what do you do if you're Boston and you
- 38:15Speaker 1: happen to be off to a two and seven start.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Vandler already booing and yelling, sell the team and freaking out.
- 38:22Speaker 2: I mean, I think the bigger issue is I don't
- 38:24Speaker 2: think this needed to necessary be public, right Jared de
- 38:28Speaker 2: Gurant's an accomplished outfielder who's a pretty good player too. Like,
- 38:32Speaker 2: it's very easy to sugarcoat it and say, hey, we
- 38:35Speaker 2: just want to get Durant some reps in left field.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Roman's been swinging the bat, well, you know he's gonna
- 38:41Speaker 2: have to dh a little bit. You know, this is
- 38:43Speaker 2: kind of when we constructed our roster. This is something
- 38:46Speaker 2: we knew was a possibility. We had a bunch of
- 38:49Speaker 2: outfielders that all needed to play. I didn't think it
- 38:52Speaker 2: was necessary for them to call out Roman Anthony, especially
- 38:54Speaker 2: after you signed up to this long term extension. He's
- 38:58Speaker 2: the potential face of your franchise. To kind of call
- 39:01Speaker 2: him out nine games in the season, to me, this
- 39:03Speaker 2: is an issue that probably should have been either discussed
- 39:06Speaker 2: or worked on in spring training, not nine games into
- 39:09Speaker 2: the season.
- 39:12Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't get this.
- 39:13Speaker 4: I like a lot of the stuff that Alice Korra does,
- 39:17Speaker 4: but I don't get why he had to had to
- 39:20Speaker 4: say this. Like Jared duran in twenty let's say that
- 39:24Speaker 4: was twenty four when he had his All Star season.
- 39:29Speaker 4: He I mean, he really made himself into almost a
- 39:33Speaker 4: gold Glove outfielder. He was playing a lot of center field.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Obviously they got a gold Glove outfielder, and say Don Rafaela,
- 39:39Speaker 4: who came up last year and bumped him to left,
- 39:42Speaker 4: they have gold in right field and will he or
- 39:45Speaker 4: bray you. So he could have just said Jared Durant
- 39:49Speaker 4: is a better left fielder than Roman Anthony right now.
- 39:54Speaker 4: Or he could have said Roman Anthony is going to
- 39:56Speaker 4: be in the lineup. We got to figure out how
- 39:58Speaker 4: to get the best lineup out there, not like well,
- 40:00Speaker 4: he has to work on his footwork and his throats too,
- 40:03Speaker 4: Like KP. You know, left field in Boston is not
- 40:08Speaker 4: the easiest place to play, and if you haven't played
- 40:10Speaker 4: there a lot, have somebody who has played there a
- 40:13Speaker 4: lot play that position and then you know, maybe work
- 40:18Speaker 4: into the outfield on the road where you're you know,
- 40:21Speaker 4: you're not playing balls off a ladder, off a monster
- 40:24Speaker 4: sign off of you know, three hundred and five feet
- 40:28Speaker 4: from home plate type of plays.
- 40:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it feels like they could have just used the
- 40:32Speaker 2: WBC as an excuse, like, hey, he didn't get a
- 40:35Speaker 2: ton of reps here in Jet Blue Park and Fort Myers,
- 40:38Speaker 2: which kind of emulates Fenway Park, right the fact that
- 40:42Speaker 2: he missed a lot of time, Like you said, all
- 40:45Speaker 2: the right things like hey, Jared Rant's been here, he's
- 40:47Speaker 2: done it. He knows how to play the wall a
- 40:49Speaker 2: little bit. You know, we want to put our best
- 40:51Speaker 2: defensive line about there. Right now, we feel like Durant's
- 40:54Speaker 2: our guy in left field. Doesn't mean Roman's not going
- 40:57Speaker 2: to play, but to call him out and whatever happened
- 41:00Speaker 2: to having I mean, I know every bit of information's
- 41:03Speaker 2: out there, but whatever happened to have a little bit
- 41:05Speaker 2: of like strategic advantage, Like now every time Roman gets
- 41:08Speaker 2: the ball in left field, you don't think all these
- 41:10Speaker 2: other teams are going to challenge his footwork and his
- 41:13Speaker 2: throwing arm now like it just it's interesting because Alex
- 41:16Speaker 2: Kore is one of the best out there for him
- 41:18Speaker 2: to do that, I don't really I can't really make
- 41:21Speaker 2: sense of it.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Hey, a reminder to everyone as we're talking about all
- 41:25Speaker 1: the other shows across the FT Network that make us
- 41:27Speaker 1: better as we have so many new family members joining
- 41:31Speaker 1: the party here Cardinal Territory Ali Marmole guest episode just
- 41:36Speaker 1: released last week. Hilarious moment they called him during the show.
- 41:39Speaker 1: This time they actually got him formally on the show
- 41:42Speaker 1: without blitzing him. So I encourage you to check Allan out.
- 41:47Speaker 1: It's part of the FT Network. Also, somebody who frequently
- 41:51Speaker 1: appears on this show when on the paternity list. So
- 41:55Speaker 1: Pete Fairbanks getting ready. I don't know, did it already happen?
- 41:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, his wife was induced. I think it
- 42:01Speaker 1: was yesterday morning or this morning, whatever it was. Congratulations
- 42:05Speaker 1: to Pete. I'm sure we'll get more news. But there's
- 42:07Speaker 1: Isaaca Zood from our Marlin Showfish on first. The interesting
- 42:11Speaker 1: thing for me here too, Kratz, was how they had
- 42:13Speaker 1: him start so that he could get to the fam sooner.
- 42:15Speaker 1: They're like, hey, we're going to get our inning out
- 42:16Speaker 1: of you, so if you want to leave, you got
- 42:18Speaker 1: to start the game.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Kind of genius. I don't hate it. Like I go.
- 42:23Speaker 4: I go through this a little bit of my high
- 42:25Speaker 4: school team. Like I got some soccer players that have
- 42:27Speaker 4: been going to soccer tryouts. So I'm like, hey, I'm
- 42:30Speaker 4: going to hit you higher in the order today because
- 42:33Speaker 4: you can only get two at bats, but I'll get
- 42:35Speaker 4: two at bats.
- 42:36Speaker 3: Out of you and then you gotta leave. So like,
- 42:38Speaker 3: I kind of like it.
- 42:39Speaker 4: The Marlins are running a nice little uh travel high
- 42:43Speaker 4: school baseball team there.
- 42:44Speaker 3: They got the hey you're gonna throw.
- 42:46Speaker 4: You're gonna get a day off tomorrow, but we expect
- 42:48Speaker 4: you back Tuesday because your wife giving birth here in Miami.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Okay, right, that's your late past KP first inning for you.
- 42:57Speaker 1: And also there was a four hour rain delay. It
- 42:59Speaker 1: was a long day for the Islins and the Yankees
- 43:01Speaker 1: on Sunday. Then you get your day off, you get
- 43:04Speaker 1: your new kid, and then you come back and you
- 43:06Speaker 1: can go back to the later innings.
- 43:08Speaker 2: I actually really liked it too. I mean, you know,
- 43:11Speaker 2: they're playing well right now, and they're like, okay, hey,
- 43:14Speaker 2: let's make a compromise, like, hey, I want you to
- 43:16Speaker 2: be there for the birth of your child. You know
- 43:18Speaker 2: that's a non negotiable, but how do we kind of
- 43:21Speaker 2: how do we both benefit each other. Oh, great idea.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Why don't you just be our opener and then you
- 43:26Speaker 2: can hit the showers, catch your flight, make it home.
- 43:29Speaker 2: But we're going to need you back to close the
- 43:31Speaker 2: game two days from now. But enjoy it, enjoy the
- 43:33Speaker 2: birth of your new.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Child, and maybe it helps to have a relatable front office.
- 43:38Speaker 1: Exact Peter Bendix, I think is expecting a kid very
- 43:41Speaker 1: very soon, his first child. So you have a little
- 43:44Speaker 1: bit of an understanding there and some creativity from a
- 43:47Speaker 1: pretty creative front office.
- 43:49Speaker 4: I'm too, I'm not any any big league baseball player,
- 43:54Speaker 4: minor league baseball player. You do not ask to take
- 43:57Speaker 4: off for your kid's birth. You tell them I'm taking
- 44:02Speaker 4: off when.
- 44:03Speaker 3: My kid is born.
- 44:04Speaker 4: This isn't an ask, like you don't miss your kids burn.
- 44:21Speaker 1: We don't have a lot of time, but we do
- 44:23Speaker 1: have time to say hi to Bobby Junior, who's named
- 44:25Speaker 1: after Bobby Witt Junior. He's a tortoise that Pat Murphy
- 44:28Speaker 1: brought on the field and took out of his pocket
- 44:30Speaker 1: during an interview with Trisha Whitaker. I mean, crats, I
- 44:33Speaker 1: don't even know what else I can say about your boy, Murph.
- 44:36Speaker 4: I mean, there's just a no I mean, talk about
- 44:39Speaker 4: the gimmicks. If this wasn't if this was the Mets,
- 44:41Speaker 4: people be like people me, I'll be like, oh, it's
- 44:44Speaker 4: too much. But it's just it's just the games.
- 44:47Speaker 3: It's a stick.
- 44:48Speaker 4: When you're winning, everybody wants a turtle. When you're losing,
- 44:51Speaker 4: it's like, uh, let's just like who doesn't like a turtle?
- 44:54Speaker 4: As long as it's not snapping turtle, we're good to go.
- 44:58Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're if you're pulling pancakes of your pocket
- 45:00Speaker 2: and you're winning, it's okay. But once again, if it's
- 45:03Speaker 2: a team that's unsuccessful, people run thin to that type
- 45:07Speaker 2: of humor. Pat Murphy and the Milwaukee Brewers kind of
- 45:11Speaker 2: seem to get away with whatever they want because they
- 45:13Speaker 2: just keep winning.
- 45:15Speaker 3: All I do is win, win, win, no matter what.
- 45:19Speaker 1: It is. Fun on the way out here.
- 45:20Speaker 3: What do you got?
- 45:22Speaker 4: I mean, how can you steal three homers? Like three
- 45:25Speaker 4: dangers from an offense? It is not hitting dingers and
- 45:30Speaker 4: come on the show the next day Joe Adell ex teammate.
- 45:33Speaker 3: Wow amazing.
- 45:40Speaker 1: You know this time of year means kyleege hoops talk
- 45:42Speaker 1: and that's actually almost coming to a close. So your
