Latest / Sri Aurobindo Studies / Addressing the Divergence Between the Inner Being and the External Nature
Transcript
- 0:00Complete sincerity, inwardly and outwardly, is something that
- 0:05does not generally happen overnight.
- 0:09There are too many habits, instincts and trained responses
- 0:13that control the way the external nature responds to
- 0:16expect that the mental, vital and physical elements of the
- 0:20being will not only accept the spiritual focus and aspiration,
- 0:25but be able to respond and integrate it into the actual
- 0:29events and circumstances of the outer life.
- 0:33The development of sincerity in the nature, in the sense of a
- 0:37coherence between the aspiration and the external reactions, is
- 0:43necessarily a process of observation, attention and
- 0:48systematic action. Since this is a universal human
- 0:53condition, it is not a matter for one to berate oneself.
- 0:57Rather, it is an opportunity for a patient, persistent and
- 1:02consistent approach to address the failings and weaknesses of
- 1:07human nature generally over time and through numerous
- 1:11opportunities and experiences. Sri Orabindo notes quote.
- 1:18It is true that a central sincerity is not enough except
- 1:22as a beginning and a base. The sincerity must spread
- 1:27through the whole nature. But still, unless there is a
- 1:31double nature without a central harmonizing consciousness, the
- 1:35basis is usually sufficient for that to happen.
- 1:39You speak of insincerity in your nature.
- 1:43If insincerity means the unwillingness of some part of
- 1:46the being to live according to the highest light one has, or to
- 1:50equate the outer with the inner man, then this part is always
- 1:55insincere in all. The only way is to lay stress on
- 1:59the inner being and develop in it the psychic and spiritual
- 2:03consciousness till that comes down in it which pushes out the
- 2:07darkness from the outer man also.
