- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, good afternoon, listeners. Thank you for coming on Lament
- 0:03Speaker 1: of Hope podcast. It's kind of crazy that we're already
- 0:06Speaker 1: in April and just, yeah, already so many interviews done
- 0:11Speaker 1: and just seeing, getting to hear so many different stories.
- 0:15Speaker 1: And recently we've been kind of talking to a lot
- 0:18Speaker 1: of different like survivalists and then talking to a dispatcher.
- 0:22Speaker 2: That they can breathe again.
- 0:26Speaker 3: That they feel that, okay, I'm safe with this person.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Can I ask for you, how do you cope with,
- 0:43Speaker 1: because I know the photography is such a strong outlet
- 0:48Speaker 1: to document injustice and to document suffering and to bring
- 0:54Speaker 1: awareness through your photos. Does it ever overwhelm you, how
- 1:01Speaker 1: much suffering there is?
- 1:02Speaker 3: Yeah, it's very awful.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Yeah? What do you do? Like, how do you cope
- 1:08Speaker 1: with that?
- 1:08Speaker 4: Uh....
- 1:14Speaker 3: I think that.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I talk a lot about it. I talk a lot
- 1:25Speaker 2: about the concrete pictures and the concrete story that we
- 1:33Speaker 2: have behind this picture and the story about this person,
- 1:39Speaker 2: the concrete character and something like that.
- 1:42Speaker 4: So, In some way, I just talk about that. I
- 1:51Speaker 4: think it's funny. I had a friend who was the
- 2:00Speaker 4: most important world photographer in Poland.
- 2:05Speaker 5: And he, how it's called, he made a suicide or
- 2:17Speaker 5: it's correct?
- 2:20Speaker 1: He died from suicide?
- 2:22Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 2:24Speaker 2: But I'm very careful. I was very careful to observe
- 2:32Speaker 2: him because what he did, he always, for example, he
- 2:40Speaker 2: back from Africa, from Sudan, and he cover hunger, for example.
- 2:47Speaker 3: And later, he always.
- 2:49Speaker 6: Had this picture, he had this story about these people
- 2:55Speaker 6: and he put this story to the.
- 3:00Speaker 3: To his desk, for example. He worked in the same
- 3:05Speaker 3: newspaper like me. But newspaper also didn't... they didn't help him.
- 3:16Speaker 3: I mean... and this.
- 3:20Speaker 7: This picture, what he was taken, first of all, all
- 3:28Speaker 7: of this picture, all of the suffering, the others, was
- 3:33Speaker 7: behind him.
- 3:35Speaker 2: But years later, somebody told him that they wanted.
- 3:43Speaker 3: To write a book about all of his problems. And
- 3:49Speaker 3: everything was, everything what was behind him only started, he
- 3:58Speaker 3: started to.
