- 0:44For our fans that have been living under a rock and may not know, did
- 0:47you know that Eric went to France?
- 0:49Benvenue, right?
- 0:50Is that what they say in French?
- 0:51Benvenue.
- 0:54Welcome to drive thru episode number 35.
- 0:57This is our monthly recap where we've put together a menu of automotive,
- 1:01motorsport, and random car adjacent news.
- 1:04Now, let's pull up to window number one for some automotive news.
- 1:07Cause back the streets, back, alright!
- 1:10Well, we are going to talk about a little bit of world travel.
- 1:14Not only did I go to France, I went to a couple other places as well.
- 1:17And Tanya joined me on part of this epic adventure.
- 1:20I think you joined me on the epic adventure.
- 1:22That's true.
- 1:23But we would be remiss if we didn't talk about The Great
- 1:27Race, the 100th anniversary of...
- 1:30I thought you were going to say the great race, the Canadian, you know, F1 race.
- 1:34So we're going to get to that in a little bit.
- 1:36So did you guys watch Le Mans?
- 1:38What's what's that?
- 1:39I watched Le Mans.
- 1:39A significant portion of it.
- 1:42I did not stay up all night.
- 1:45I watched about two or three hours.
- 1:48Of the 24 hour race, but I have a toddler and I was very busy going to
- 1:54swim lessons and being a good father.
- 1:56He's not old enough to understand the races yet.
- 1:59So I had to do other things.
- 2:01Lamar is my annual father's day gift from my family.
- 2:04I asked for two things.
- 2:06Be able to watch the race and to be able to watch the race in peace.
- 2:10My father's day gift was to go to Baltimore for a concert.
- 2:14So I chose music over cars, which music is my number one cars are my number two.
- 2:18So you did some traveling, like you went to Baltimore.
- 2:21That's like a foreign country from where you live now.
- 2:23It's going to a third world country, not France.
- 2:26It's like going to Somalia.
- 2:28Yeah.
- 2:28Driven in Paris.
- 2:29That's all I got to say.
- 2:30Holy smokes.
- 2:31Can't be as bad as driving through Baltimore.
- 2:33It's worse.
- 2:34Actually picture it.
- 2:35Paris 2023.
- 2:37I'm doing my best to still get here.
- 2:39It is like Dante's Inferno.
- 2:41Paris itself is like nine inception rings of hell.
- 2:46And it's like one beltway after the other, I guess their districts or
- 2:49rings or whatever they call them.
- 2:51And I'd heard rumor about what it was like to drive in France.
- 2:53And you guys have heard me DMV before, but nothing.
- 2:58Is like driving in Paris.
- 3:00Nothing is like driving in Paris in a Fiat that you weren't supposed
- 3:04to have in the first place.
- 3:05So it all sort of goes wrong from the very beginning when I showed up
- 3:09at the enterprise counter and they said, well, sir, your car is not here.
- 3:13What was your original car?
- 3:15Was it a Chevy Impala?
- 3:16No, no, no.
- 3:17I was supposed to get a Twingo and I was super excited about that.
- 3:20Even smaller.
- 3:22Wait, that's the electric car, isn't it?
- 3:23No, the Twingo is like this classic Renault that kind of replaced the
- 3:28R4 and some of the other people movers that have been around forever.
- 3:31It's sort of like the new beetle, right?
- 3:33The size of your shoe, Brad.
- 3:35Yeah.
- 3:36I thought I've sold them on Top Gear a lot.
- 3:39They're small.
- 3:40They're like a PF 500 size.
- 3:42You say Twingo, all I think is Oingo Boingo.
- 3:44My car wasn't there when I was waiting to pick it up.
- 3:46So I had to wait like 45 minutes and then it finally showed up.
- 3:49I don't know where they drudged this car up, but it was a Fiat
- 3:51500 E hybrid, not electric.
- 3:55So it was a E H it was a 500.
- 3:58Yeah.
- 3:58And that's sort of how it drove too.
- 4:00It was a manual, but it was a three cylinder non turbo hybrid.
- 4:06I will say that 70 mile an hour happens.
- 4:10Eventually.
- 4:11And when you add two other full size adults in said vehicle plus luggage,
- 4:16yeah, it got a little suspect.
- 4:18So was it any different driving a manual hybrid versus a manual dice car?
- 4:24It was exactly the same.
- 4:27Basically what it did was it had RPMs.
- 4:36It still had like the engine shutoff capabilities and all this kind of stuff,
- 4:40and so it was really designed for short stop and go, especially in the French
- 4:44traffic where it took us over an hour and a half just to get outta Paris
- 4:48onto the main highway to go to Lama.
- 4:50So at that point it was consuming electricity instead
- 4:53of gas, stuff like that.
- 4:55What I learned though was with the manual transmission ev, unlike the
- 4:59Honda CRZ hybrid and some, and this new super that we talked about last
- 5:03time, we got together, the fiat.
- 5:05If you didn't disengage the auto shutoff, the car would like freak out
- 5:10and stall, especially if you tried to do like a rolling second gear takeoff.
- 5:13So I've actually figured out how to disable the system partially.
- 5:18And so then it was a lot more drivable because otherwise it would sort of
- 5:21like Buck, it was really annoying.
- 5:23And I kept telling David from MIE racing, who was my travel
- 5:26companion over this trip.
- 5:27I was like, it's not me.
- 5:28And he goes, no, I can tell it's a car.
- 5:30It's doing something weird.
- 5:31And, you know, it's like, I drive a manual every day.
- 5:34It's it's a Fiat.
- 5:34It's easy.
- 5:35Once we got out of Paris, then it's just country roads.
- 5:38It's like any other highway, that sort of thing.
- 5:40And Lamar is in the middle of nowhere, but I will say this to sort
- 5:43of wrap up the thought about Paris and your comment about Baltimore, at
- 5:47least in Baltimore, when it rains.
- 5:50The water doesn't create a waterfall from 1 overpass to the other overpass
- 5:56and the 3rd overpass underneath it and then slam on the roof of your car
- 6:00where it's nearly impossible to see.
- 6:02And then when you get out from underneath the waterfall, your windshield is
- 6:06covered in cigarette butts and trash.
- 6:08Because Paris is filthy.
- 6:10So you're saying you've never been under, in the tunnel, you know,
- 6:13going into or out of Baltimore?
- 6:15The tunnel doesn't leak, at least as far as I know.
- 6:18No, no, but I've been in situations where just that, you know, happens.
- 6:21There was some sort of clog in the drainage system and you
- 6:24basically drove through a shower to get into the tunnel and out.
- 6:27I am not one for driving in the city anymore anyway, although I don't
- 6:31mind the European driving etiquette.
- 6:34They still have one, at least, you know, passing is very easy.
- 6:37Everybody's moving at very good speeds.
- 6:39They're situationally aware.
- 6:40You're not looking over seeing somebody eating a bag of Doritos on their cell
- 6:44phone and not paying attention to driving.
- 6:46Hardly any Teslas I saw when I was there, you know, the typical BMWs,
- 6:49Renaults, Volkswagens, all that kind of stuff you come to expect.
- 6:53The aggressiveness in Paris is unparalleled.
- 6:57They change lanes, whether you're there or not, they push against you.
- 7:02I mean, you could reach out and basically smack somebody in the face.
- 7:04That's how close they are.
- 7:06They will just cut in wherever they feel like it, whether you're going
- 7:08fast or going slow, turn signals, might as well not even have them.
- 7:12Absolutely insane in the city when you get back out on the highway, not a big deal.
- 7:16It is what it is.
- 7:17It's just typical European driving at that point.
- 7:19But in Paris proper, it's nuts.
- 7:21Yeah.
- 7:21It sounds like driving in New York, basically a hundred percent.
- 7:24If they're an inch ahead of you, they have right away.
- 7:27A hundred percent.
- 7:28Yes.
- 7:29A hundred percent.
- 7:29It's not how many Peugeots were driving.
- 7:32You know, there were a lot.
- 7:34I got to tell you, I got to spot the new 208.
- 7:37Like all over the place, the new 208 GTI specifically is a really good looking car.
- 7:44Like if I lived over there, I'd be considering buying one of those right now.
- 7:48It is really nice, very well equipped, very well appointed.
- 7:51I got to see one up close in the interior and stuff.
- 7:54I also got to see some Sciroccos, including a Scirocco R.
- 7:58So that is still at the top of my list of things to buy while I was
- 8:01playing car spotting over there.
- 8:03But there's a lot of neat stuff.
- 8:04You get super jealous really quick driving around over there.
- 8:07Because you realize there's so many cars that we're just never going to get.
- 8:10Speaking of the Scirocco, not to go off on a tangent.
- 8:13When did that first come out?
- 8:15The newest model, the one you Mark five timeframe.
- 8:18So 2008, 2000s.
- 8:19Yeah.
- 8:20Okay.
- 8:20So 25 year rule sometime in the 2030s, you can, that's right.
- 8:25You should be able to import one.
- 8:27I just got to wait a little bit longer.
- 8:29Just a little bit.
- 8:29That 208 is pretty hot though.
- 8:31That is, that is a hot car.
- 8:32You get to Lamont, Le Mans, and the way we came in, because we came in
- 8:38from Paris, we're going east to west and we drop in right behind Tetrerue.
- 8:44It's like the famous restaurant that's right there at turn,
- 8:47I guess it's like turn five.
- 8:48You don't know, really know what to expect because you're skirting the
- 8:51outside of the track and the track is comprised mainly of country roads.
- 8:56And so it's chaos.
- 8:58There's no organization.
- 9:00The other thing I learned about France is they pretty much expect
- 9:03you to be an adult, and they'll give you pointers to a certain point.
- 9:06And then after that, they're like, well, you're on your own.
- 9:07We got tired.
- 9:09We're not putting up any more signs.
- 9:10And we must have run out of money because there aren't any more signs to put up.
- 9:13Anyway, you get lost really quickly because the level of
- 9:17caring kind of seems to stop.
- 9:18And Le Mans is huge.
- 9:20I never understood how grandiose it was.
- 9:24Until I got there, like we look at tracks like V.
- 9:27I.
- 9:27R.
- 9:27and the Glen and Laguna Seca and the ones in Texas and even some of the
- 9:32biggest NASCAR tracks at Talladega or even Indianapolis, you're like, these are
- 9:36coliseums of greatness and you get to Le Mans, you're like, these are turns three
- 9:42and four and five and that's basically it.
- 9:44I mean, it's just, it's so big, just massive.
- 9:48And I was tracking all of our walking that we were doing.
- 9:51And regrettably my decision not to get a scooter or whatever, some other
- 9:56alternate form of transportation, because moving around by car was near
- 9:59impossible, we ended up clocking.
- 10:02Could you not almost.
- 10:0380, that's eight zero miles of walking in five days.
- 10:08I mean, my calves look like your calves now, Brad.
- 10:10That's what I'm saying.
- 10:10Well, they'd probably come down now.
- 10:14The track is just massive, right?
- 10:16Eight and a half miles and change Bugatti.
- 10:19The inner circuit, the one we play on forces sometimes
- 10:21is actually a lot smaller.
- 10:23And we walked most of that too.
- 10:25And you're like, Oh, this is really cool.
- 10:26Motorcycle track, HPD track, go karting.
- 10:28You can do a lot of stuff with it, but it seems bigger.
- 10:31Until you see it in context of everything else at Lamar, it's just, it's huge.
- 10:35The other thing you don't realize is the amount of elevation change there is at
- 10:39Lamar, like in all the video games, just like any other video game or simulator.
- 10:43It seems really flat and it's not, not at all.
- 10:47Pretty interesting.
- 10:47You know, it's in the rolling countryside and all that kind of stuff.
- 10:51Before I went, you know, we talked about different vantage points around the track.
- 10:55Where would you guys think would be probably the best place to watch?
- 10:58On your TV in the tent.
- 11:03I like the way Tanya thinks.
- 11:06Because then you get to see everything.
- 11:08I'll put it this way.
- 11:09I had high hopes.
- 11:10Tetra Rouge was a disappointment.
- 11:12It's really tight back there.
- 11:14There's not a lot of room for people to stand.
- 11:15But what you do get.
- 11:17Especially at night is this overwhelming sense of how fast those cars are
- 11:22because they're coming down the hill already at full tilt and getting on
- 11:27the Mulsanne, prepare for launch speed at 200 miles an hour kind of deal.
- 11:31And it's just absolutely bonkers.
- 11:33And some people come through there flat out.
- 11:35Some will set up the brakes just to nose the car in a little bit.
- 11:38And away they go, like, just absolute warp drive.
- 11:41That was kind of cool, but to stand there all day with no grandstands, shoulder
- 11:46to shoulder with other people that don't know the boundaries of personal space.
- 11:50Yeah, I was like, we need to move on from that.
- 11:52Another one that was super disappointing was actually the Porsche curves.
- 11:56And you see it on TV and it looks super cool with the Porsche thing
- 11:59written out and all this kind of stuff.
- 12:00You're sitting on a hill and you can only sit on the inside of the turn.
- 12:04And you got to hike through two campgrounds to get there.
- 12:07It's not close, you know, like anything is around there, but the vantage point
- 12:10kind of sucked and the cars are just buzzing by and it's sort of the same
- 12:14effect you get at road Atlanta and turn six and seven, where they just sort of
- 12:18come into the corner out of nowhere.
- 12:20And then they disappear because they're off at a million miles an hour.
- 12:23Although I will say it was one of the.
- 12:24Best places to hear the cars other than the front straight.
- 12:28If you really wanted to be up close to them.
- 12:30And we'll talk more about the garage 56 car as we go along, but I mean,
- 12:34talk about a car beyond the level of any Corvette of the past, that the
- 12:39sound just ripples right through you as it's going through Porsche curves,
- 12:44we went down to Ford chicane, which is where the Ferris wheel is and at three
- 12:48o'clock in the morning, when you're extremely tired after many days, it is.
- 12:52Absolutely gorgeous up there.
- 12:54I highly recommend it.
- 12:55You do have to pay to go on the Ferris wheel.
- 12:57It's a whole separate thing.
- 12:58It's not too expensive.
- 12:59Some of the video and the pictures we took were just absolutely unbelievable.
- 13:02And you can see really far out, especially onto the backside of the track, coming
- 13:07from the direction of like Arnage when you're up in the Ferris wheel.
- 13:11So that was totally worth it.
- 13:12The front straight is pretty awesome during non race time, because
- 13:18otherwise you can't get there.
- 13:20It is so jam packed with people and security guards and like all this stuff.
- 13:24It's really not a fun place to be.
- 13:26But what I learned through the process is.
- 13:29Lemans is a week long thing.
- 13:31It's a week of sleepless nights.
- 13:33There's a lot of stuff going on and being at the front straight, especially
- 13:37during night practice, which I don't think many of us knew was a thing
- 13:41because they don't televise it.
- 13:43So ACO 18, the Porsche boxes.
- 13:45That was a great place to watch off the main street, your high upgrade
- 13:49pictures, all this kind of stuff.
- 13:50We went there at night during one of the practice sessions because it was open.
- 13:53It's called a tribune, is what they call their grandstands.
- 13:55And you have to have special passes to get up there and you have to be part of the
- 13:58Porsche box and all this kind of stuff.
- 13:59But because it wasn't race day yet, we could get up there.
- 14:02So we went up there like late at nights, David and I were chatting, we're taking
- 14:05pictures down into Glickenhaus and Toyota, and we're kind of, you know, using the
- 14:09binoculars and seeing what they're doing.
- 14:11And by the way, we found out there's a curfew in the pit boxes.
- 14:14They're only allowed to work to a certain point.
- 14:15They got to shut it down.
- 14:16So we're just sitting there chatting, you know, taking it in, talking
- 14:19about the experience at that point.
- 14:21And there were security guards like looming up there.
- 14:23Right.
- 14:23We had asked him, is it okay if we come up here?
- 14:25Yeah, yeah, sure.
- 14:26We're going to take some pictures.
- 14:26We're going to hang out.
- 14:27Yeah, yeah, no problem.
- 14:28We're we're open all night.
- 14:29Okay, cool.
- 14:30It got really quiet.
- 14:32It's like two in the morning, I guess, at this point.
- 14:34And David's like, man, I gotta pee.
- 14:36And so he disappears and he comes like right back.
- 14:38And I'm like, what happened?
- 14:39He goes, they're locking us in.
- 14:41What?
- 14:41He goes, they're leaving.
- 14:42They weren't going to say a damn thing.
- 14:44I pack up all, you know, my stuff, my camera, whatever.
- 14:46And we run out and they're like, Oh yes, we were, we were going.
- 14:50And I'm like, we were still out there.
- 14:52It's okay.
- 14:53Not our problem.
- 14:54Like, you've got to be kidding me.
- 14:56How would you have gotten out?
- 14:57Like, is there a way to have gotten out?
- 14:59I think we would have set off a bunch of alarms and stuff.
- 15:01They were locking us in.
- 15:03And I'm like, well, we're going to go over the front of the
- 15:05balcony and like, rappel down?
- 15:06Like, spelunking?
- 15:09That's the other thing.
- 15:09The track is live all week.
- 15:12For almost all day, every day, there's only a few hours where it gets quiet and
- 15:17it gets disturbing because you're like, there's all that ambient white noise of
- 15:20the cars, constantly something going on.
- 15:22And so that's a little strange Dunlop's pretty awesome.
- 15:25Not going to deny it.
- 15:27It's probably 1 of the most fun places to watch.
- 15:29There are grandstands there, but it gets packed very, very quickly.
- 15:32It's hard to get in and out.
- 15:33The bridge is really narrow.
- 15:35There is an advantage.
- 15:36If you're an ACO member, which we'll talk about in a little bit, where
- 15:39you can be on the backside of Dunlop, where I took a lot of pictures from,
- 15:42and so did some of our other guys, and that's a great place to be the downhill
- 15:47S's are also awesome, hard to get to.
- 15:51You have to climb these really tall banks to get up there, to be
- 15:54able to see, and it's jam packed.
- 15:56And people are getting these spots during the race on average, three to
- 16:00five hours before the race even started.
- 16:02So if you didn't pick where you wanted to be.
- 16:05It was already packed, so absolutely insane.
- 16:08The only part of the track where we didn't get to go was Arnage and Indie,
- 16:12which are the two slowest corners.
- 16:14You know, after you come off the Mulsanne, it's the hard left and then the hard
- 16:17right, and then they make their way back.
- 16:19The French guys from Bosch that we were hanging out with Thibaut and
- 16:24that whole team, Max and all those guys, Hey, if you're listening.
- 16:27They made the trek to Arnaz and Indy, and would you guys like to
- 16:30guess how long it took to walk there?
- 16:32A year.
- 16:34Well, this is like our what should I buy guess.
- 16:36Like two hours.
- 16:37Three and a half hours one way.
- 16:39Because it is the furthest point away from everything, and you have to walk through,
- 16:43like, the town of Arnaz to get there.
- 16:45It's super far, and...
- 16:46I regret not going, but I'll do that next time because that takes a lot of planning
- 16:51and I would love to have a scooter or something to be able to do that.
- 16:55Cause it's just too much for you to be scootering or yes, or something else.
- 17:00Yes.
- 17:01Bikes and scooters were all over the place.
- 17:03And every time I saw one buzz by me, I'm like, I'm super jealous right now.
- 17:06I'm a feet hurt and yeah.
- 17:09I thought you were going to buy a scooter and do the whole I was!
- 17:12And so you know what I Buy a boat ship there and My inner cheapness as a racer
- 17:15came out, and you know what I did?
- 17:17I ended up buying a really nice pair Did you get Heelys?
- 17:20You got a pair of Heelys.
- 17:21No, I got Hokas.
- 17:22These European, like, three sizes too big for your feet running shoes.
- 17:26And I will say that saved me because of all this walking I did.
- 17:30But yeah, it would have been nice to be mobile and be able
- 17:32to get around a lot faster.
- 17:33You should have just taken rollerblades.
- 17:35They sell Hokas here.
- 17:36Oh, I bought them here.
- 17:37Oh, okay.
- 17:39You know what I like to talk about.
- 17:41I know.
- 17:41Everywhere I go.
- 17:43We hungry.
- 17:44We hungry.
- 17:45We always hungry.
- 17:46I wasn't gonna bring up food.
- 17:48I wasn't gonna bring up baguettes.
- 17:49So let's talk about the food situation.
- 17:51Brad's a foodie.
- 17:52As in I like food.
- 17:54That's about it.
- 17:55Hanging out with a gentleman named Ty White.
- 17:57Hey, Ty, if you're listening, by the way, fun fact, he is the White House.
- 18:02You see in every video game at the Nürburgring, that's where he lives.
- 18:06He lives at the track there.
- 18:07So that's actually super cool.
- 18:08So he's been to Le Mans many, many times, and he was very much our yogi on
- 18:13this trip because he's like, go here, go here, do these things, whatever.
- 18:16And he told me years ago in the not too recent past.
- 18:19Lamont was like a food desert.
- 18:21There was nothing you had to fend for yourself.
- 18:24Can you imagine being there camping for a week?
- 18:27Right.
- 18:27And you didn't plan ahead.
- 18:28Well, you starved.
- 18:29So now they have these, especially for the hundredth,
- 18:32they built a lot more facilities.
- 18:34There's a lot more like food trucks.
- 18:36There's this really cool brasserie that we ate at twice because it
- 18:39was actually a really good deal.
- 18:41And there weren't a lot of lines.
- 18:42Cause people were like, I don't want to sit down dinner.
- 18:43I just want a hot dog or, you know, whatever they could find.
- 18:46But since we were, as the French guys liked to make fun of us
- 18:49repeatedly, we were glamping.
- 18:52Food was provided in the morning, at least breakfast, and they had a lounge and stuff
- 18:55like that near where our campsite was.
- 18:57Which by the way, if you're gonna do Lama, do the glamping, it is totally worth it.
- 19:02Considering how close we were to the track and all that kind of stuff,
- 19:04you get to breakfast, especially the first day and I'm starving.
- 19:07I don't even know what time zone I'm in.
- 19:09I'm like, I just want to eat something.
- 19:11And I'm thinking crepes and I'm thinking fresh fruit and brie and all
- 19:16this stuff is running through my head.
- 19:18And I walk in and You left all that stuff in Paris.
- 19:20Apparently.
- 19:21Cause when I walked in, I looked at the table.
- 19:23I looked at Ty.
- 19:25I'll look back at the table and he said, Oh, I guess there's bread for breakfast.
- 19:29There was literally piles of baguettes, couple croissants,
- 19:32more piles of baguettes.
- 19:33And I kid you not a three gallon bucket of Nutella, which I was like, I'm not
- 19:38really sure what to do with all this.
- 19:40You put the Nutella on the bread.
- 19:43It puts the Nutella on the bread, but you don't double dip.
- 19:46You don't double dip.
- 19:47You don't double dip your chip.
- 19:49This would have been easy to accomplish had the baguette not
- 19:53been a weapon of mass destruction.
- 19:54It was a guillotine.
- 19:56It was made out of concrete.
- 19:57I could have beat it on the table and it still wouldn't have broke.
- 20:00It was so hard.
- 20:01You know, afterwards I was like, Oh, maybe the, you know, that's the stale baguettes.
- 20:04You can make a cafe au lait or something like that.
- 20:07But no, if you ordered coffee, what did you get?
- 20:09A little teeny.
- 20:10You know, with your three fingers out, not even your pinky espresso.
- 20:13And I'm like, give me a freaking cup of coffee.
- 20:16You American.
- 20:17I know.
- 20:18America, you glamper, you know, such a, such a, just a, I don't know.
- 20:23So what's better that food or the lunch at Watkins Glen for a hook
- 20:28on driving event, man, you know, don't make me make that decision.
- 20:32Cause it's a tough one.
- 20:36Shout out to HOD.
- 20:38And then the second day I watched the guy.
- 20:40Make eggs for people that were there waiting, hungry, again, staring at
- 20:44bread in a walk and burn them because there's nothing like waking up in the
- 20:49morning to the smell of burnt eggs.
- 20:51Burnt eggs, stale baguette, and Nutella.
- 20:53In a country where they invented the crepe and the omelets and all this stuff, you'd
- 20:58think they would know how to do this.
- 21:00You know, somebody told me afterwards, it's because they don't know how
- 21:02to cook en masse like we do here in America, like for armies and stuff.
- 21:06You know, they cook in small quantities.
- 21:08I'm like, okay.
- 21:09Because they use our army.
- 21:10Even here, they cook a crepe one crepe at a time.
- 21:14Could you imagine cooking crepes for a crowd of people at a race?
- 21:18It would take longer than the race to cook the crepes.
- 21:21And there were crepe places, and you could get crepes, and they looked super good.
- 21:25But I was like, you know what?
- 21:26I'm lip lumping.
- 21:28I would like my breakfast, right?
- 21:30Now, I will say, The ice cream was super good as it always is in Europe
- 21:33because it's gelato based and, you know, all that kind of thing.
- 21:36They had fast food pasta, which was actually really good and I saw how
- 21:40they made it and that was pretty cool.
- 21:42But what got me is one of the evenings, and I don't remember which
- 21:45one it was because it all blurs together, we were joking about how
- 21:48Mexican food would be this atrocity.
- 21:50You'll like never find it in France.
- 21:52It's like complete sacrilege and whatever.
- 21:54And we're walking down by the go kart track to head towards where David's
- 21:58camp was, which by the way, was a 45 minute walk from my campsite.
- 22:02Okay.
- 22:03So we're walking down there.
- 22:05And we see these two young guys sitting on a scaffolding and they
- 22:08got these burritos in their hand.
- 22:10And we literally stopped dead and turn first words were
- 22:13German at a David's mouth.
- 22:14Wondering if they spoke German, don't ask me why he did that quite a bit.
- 22:18And they're like, no, no, no.
- 22:19And we're like English.
- 22:20Like, yes.
- 22:21Where did you get the burrito?
- 22:23They're like, not burrito.
- 22:26And by the time the word kebab got out of his mouth, David was in a full sprint.
- 22:31Like I was like, I'm looking around going, what the hell just happened?
- 22:35And there's this food truck and it's a kebab truck.
- 22:37And then I meet up with him and he's like, dude, you don't understand.
- 22:40European kebabs.
- 22:41This is like legit that I'm buying like six of them or whatever.
- 22:44I'm like, uh, okay.
- 22:46They were unbelievably good.
- 22:48It was probably the best meal I had at the track.
- 22:51I mean, I can still taste them in my mouth right now.
- 22:53I thought of you, Brad.
- 22:54So better than New York street meat.
- 22:55Dude, it was so good.
- 22:57So good.
- 22:58But thinking about the food situation, Le Mans, it's a, it's a small French town.
- 23:02Do they have markets and grocery stores and stuff where you can leave
- 23:06where they're running the race to, can you, as a camper or a glamper,
- 23:11can you take a cooler, fill it with some ice or something and get your
- 23:15own provisions and do it yourself?
- 23:17Yes and no.
- 23:18So we met these very nice Canadians that were team Corvette all the way.
- 23:22I'm sorry for team Corvette.
- 23:24And we'll talk about that more in a minute.
- 23:25They were going into like Arnage or going into Le Mans and then there's
- 23:30these tiny little grocery stores.
- 23:31You have to imagine though that these grocery stores are selling out quickly.
- 23:35They're only really designed to sustain the people that live there
- 23:39during the off season, during the non race season because Le Mans is
- 23:42built around the French countryside.
- 23:44There's not a lot out there.
- 23:46There's a lot of farms.
- 23:47There are like two little markets, you know, none of the, the little farmettes
- 23:51or the farmer's markets are open.
- 23:53There's like a couple of restaurants.
- 23:54The Tetra Rouge was closed as far as we could tell.
- 23:57That's poor planning of all those businesses.
- 23:59They can't support it.
- 24:00Right.
- 24:01And so that's why Le Mans proper had to do something on campus.
- 24:05Cause otherwise, how do you feed all these people?
- 24:07How long did it take you to get from Paris to Le Mans?
- 24:10Three hours.
- 24:10Okay.
- 24:11So you could technically get your provisions.
- 24:14In a surrounding city, there was a grocery store between Paris and Lamont.
- 24:18Yes.
- 24:18Yeah.
- 24:19You can get your provisions.
- 24:21There's a lot of nothing between Paris and Lamont when you get on that highway.
- 24:26And I don't remember the highway number right now.
- 24:28It looks like those wonderful Fellini films where it's just someone
- 24:32on a train looking at farmland and there's one little house.
- 24:36It's like Chateau Picard and then you pass Chateau Picard and
- 24:40then there's nothing for another.
- 24:4230 minutes.
- 24:43And then there's another vineyard, right?
- 24:44It's like zero.
- 24:46And when we came back from Lamont, we went off the highway.
- 24:50We took these back roads zipping through.
- 24:53And the Fiat was great, right?
- 24:54Narrow little farm roads.
- 24:55And you're just blasting through there.
- 24:57And I'm watching Mark, like grabbing the door handle.
- 24:59And David's in the back, laughing.
- 25:01The wheat was as tall as the Fiat was.
- 25:03There was nothing.
- 25:04You're just like, okay.
- 25:06And typical of European highways too, if you miss your exit, you're
- 25:10going to go another 20 minutes before you can turn around.
- 25:13So it's one of those situations too.
- 25:14Things are really spread apart.
- 25:16There's not that like road Atlanta where you're like, well, we're
- 25:19going to drive to, you know, Buford or whatever and come back.
- 25:22And it's like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 25:25So basically what you're saying is.
- 25:26The reason the French people are so thin is because all they do is drink wine and
- 25:32smoke cigarettes and eat stale baguettes.
- 25:36Yes.
- 25:37When I go on a diet, I'm going to go to France.
- 25:39French diet.
- 25:40Yeah.
- 25:40French diet.
- 25:41Well, on the other side of the race, you know, things you don't get to see on TV.
- 25:44Checkpoints everywhere.
- 25:45It was the 100th of Le Mans.
- 25:47They were on full alert, constantly scanning your badge and your wristbands.
- 25:50And you had to have different color things, you know, depending on what you
- 25:53had access to and all this kind of stuff, because apparently the eco friendly
- 25:57protesters wanted to stop the race.
- 25:59And they had attempted to actually during Practice before we even got there.
- 26:03So they were all on high alert and all this kind of stuff.
- 26:05And apparently they've done this at other races too, because they're
- 26:07protesting motorsport and all this kind of thing, luckily, none of that happened.
- 26:11As you guys know, the race went off without a hitch, no, no issues, no
- 26:15protesters or anything like that, but they were definitely concerned.
- 26:18Something was going to happen.
- 26:19Didn't really affect us considering we're like, well, if we go to
- 26:23this quarter of the track, we're, you know, three hours from.
- 26:26Whatever's happening at the start, finish line.
- 26:28So it doesn't really matter.
- 26:29The big debate was who was going to win.
- 26:31I asked you guys before you saw the race, you know how it ended.
- 26:34Who did you think was going to win?
- 26:35The number 56 car, the Toyota garage, 56, 56.
- 26:40I don't know.
- 26:41It could have been anyone.
- 26:42I went in with low expectations.
- 26:44Lowered expectations.
- 26:46The Ferrari looked like it was going to be the fastest.
- 26:50Although I always root for Jackie Chan, but I don't think the
- 26:52Jackie Chan cars were in there.
- 26:53No Jackie Chan.
- 26:54No Jackie Chan.
- 26:55I was hoping that Peugeot would win.
- 26:57You know, secretly, they were my dark horse.
- 27:00They were my underdog because the car is Legit hot.
- 27:04It is a sexy car.
- 27:06It has no arrow like the rest of them.
- 27:08It's designed specifically for that track.
- 27:10Like I wanted Ferrari to win, but I also wasn't going to be upset if Peugeot won.
- 27:15Well, there's a lot of politics.
- 27:16People want to see Toyota dethrone, Porsche's back,
- 27:19Ferrari hadn't won in 50 years.
- 27:21What looks better on the cover of the magazine, right?
- 27:24And in some respects, we all know the last few years with Toyota, it's been a joke.
- 27:28They'll sacrifice a lamb from LMP2, like Rebellion or somebody else, even the
- 27:33Glickenhaus cars, you know, whatever.
- 27:35And they'll put them up against Toyota and they don't stand a chance.
- 27:38This year, Toyota had.
- 27:39Real competition.
- 27:40I mean, I literally had this debate for an entire week with people about who
- 27:45was going to win, listening to them.
- 27:47And I, and my final word was always basically the same.
- 27:49I think it's going to be Ferrari and you guys can't count out Cadillac.
- 27:53And they're like, Oh, what does Cadillac know?
- 27:55And I'm like, Cadillac's been to Le Mans before, but the car
- 27:57they're running has been proven.
- 27:59Time and time again at Rolex and other races, it's an older
- 28:03car, but it doesn't matter.
- 28:04It can do it.
- 28:05And in the same way, they were laughing at the garage, 56 Camaro,
- 28:08like, Oh, it's never going to make it.
- 28:10It's going to run out of tires, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 28:12And we got really close to that reality.
- 28:14It was really close there for a moment.
- 28:16It was Ferrari first Cadillac second.
- 28:18Toyota and the squirrel and all that's whatever, you know, but I think at the
- 28:24end, the bigger disappointment was.
- 28:28Porsche.
- 28:28There were a lot of Porsche people there.
- 28:30I'm a Porsche fan myself.
- 28:31But I was also playing devil's advocate during this whole debate to
- 28:35say, well, it's not really a Porsche.
- 28:36And that would get under people's skin.
- 28:38Sorry, Ty.
- 28:38I'm still telling you it's not a Porsche.
- 28:40Why?
- 28:41It's a Dallara chassis.
- 28:42It's an Audi engine.
- 28:43It's all this other stuff.
- 28:45It's sort of like the Formula One car.
- 28:46They're going to slap their badge on it and we'll call it a Porsche.
- 28:49I was telling people, I think the 963 is short lived, especially with that debut of
- 28:54the 9X that came out during Le Mans, which looks a lot like the Lambo, looks a lot
- 28:59like the Bugatti that has been previewed.
- 29:02They're moving in that direction of car.
- 29:05This 963 isn't going to make it to the next Le Mans.
- 29:07They're going to have something else.
- 29:08The only reason it would be on the roster next year is if the new car isn't ready.
- 29:12Which is a pure Porsche.
- 29:14Maybe this was just to get their foot in the door.
- 29:17I think so.
- 29:18I just to get that because they had to be at the hundredth.
- 29:21Yep.
- 29:21They did not want to miss the party.
- 29:23So they brought whatever they could slap together, knowing they're
- 29:26still working on something better.
- 29:28My sentiments.
- 29:29Exactly.
- 29:29So again, I am proud for Ferrari.
- 29:32That 499 is an amazing car.
- 29:36It sounds good.
- 29:37It looks good.
- 29:38It's hella fast.
- 29:39It's qualifying times for the hyper pole.
- 29:41We're just.
- 29:42Unbelievably good.
- 29:43And, you know, people, you should have heard that.
- 29:45Oh, it's going to burn up like the formula one car.
- 29:47And they're going to, and then at the end, all the memes suddenly changed.
- 29:52What's too bad.
- 29:53The formula one cars can't be like the four nine nine.
- 29:55Why can't the formula one get their shit together?
- 29:58I'm like, come on guys talking out of both sides of your mouth.
- 30:01But that's, that's racing, right?
- 30:02I mean, we get it.
- 30:03We have our loyalties.
- 30:04We have our fans.
- 30:05I was really happy to see Ferrari win.
- 30:07And Toyota finally get beaten by a legitimate manufacturer.
- 30:13But I do have some rich people thing.
- 30:16If you are a true hardcore Ferrari fan, you could still get
- 30:20VIP access to the Ferrari boxes.
- 30:22I mean, Porsche was like giving them away after two hours.
- 30:25They're like, y'all can just come on in here.
- 30:27Have a good time.
- 30:28It's all good.
- 30:28Would you like to guess?
- 30:30How much?
- 30:30Too much.
- 30:31More than 50.
- 30:33More than you can afford, pal.
- 30:358, 000.
- 30:38What do I get for my 8, 000 stale baguettes?
- 30:40I don't know.
- 30:41A baguette?
- 30:42Yeah, I stopped when they said 8, 000.
- 30:45I was like, nope, don't need to know anything more.
- 30:47Too rich for my blood.
- 30:48A hundred percent.
- 30:49Do I get a baby Bugatti?
- 30:51Yeah.
- 30:52Baby Enzo.
- 30:53Yeah, do I get a baby Enzo?
- 30:54For a whopping 50 euros, you could have become a member of
- 30:58the Automobile Club of the West.
- 31:00The ACO has started their own U.
- 31:03S.
- 31:03region.
- 31:03Pretty awesome.
- 31:04They have lounges all over the track, especially behind Dunlop.
- 31:08There's one at ACO 18, which are the Porsche grandstands are and a
- 31:11couple other places in the track.
- 31:12You get a 40 percent discount on swag and other things.
- 31:16And food was discounted.
- 31:17If you're an ACO member spent 50 euros, 60 bucks or whatever came out to us.
- 31:21Actually worked to our advantage.
- 31:23Now I will say the schwag at LeMans was kind of want, want, I was getting all
- 31:27the emails from the ACO before the race.
- 31:30And a lot of the stuff I wanted either wasn't available, it was
- 31:34cheaper originally online, or.
- 31:36What I wanted didn't look the same when I saw it in person.
- 31:40So what I ended up doing was ordering the stuff either while I was there where
- 31:44I really wanted, or I ordered it when I got back and they're still actually
- 31:47running clearance sales on selected sizes and stuff that's left over from Lamont.
- 31:50You can actually save a boatload, especially if you're an ACO
- 31:53member on any of the schwag.
- 31:56So that being said, I got an opportunity to spoiler alert, meet
- 32:00with the new president ambassador of the ACO USA, David Lowe.
- 32:04And he's coming on the show in a little while to talk about the new club, why
- 32:08you should become a member, what the benefits are going to be to the American
- 32:11audience, things like that, including access to the race commercial free.
- 32:16For those of us here in the U S instead of having to wonder
- 32:18how the heck we can watch it.
- 32:20I did have breakfast with one of the Lamont's legends, Margie Smith Haas.
- 32:24She was the first American woman to run at Lamont's about
- 32:28four years prior to Lynn St.
- 32:30James.
- 32:31And she did that in a Porsche on 935.
- 32:33So we hope to have her on the show as well.
- 32:35I got some lowered expectations as well.
- 32:39So I posted two memes on social media.
- 32:41You can find it at Grand Tournament of Sports on Instagram and everywhere
- 32:44else that we have social media.
- 32:46And people were saying, well, where'd you get that picture of the guy in the hat?
- 32:50And I'm like, I took that picture.
- 32:52I have the original.
- 32:53I zoomed in on him.
- 32:54He didn't see me taking his picture, but I could not.
- 32:57Pass up the opportunity to have a Burt Reynolds SNL Jeopardy moment.
- 33:02But it looks like, what's his name from Top Gear?
- 33:04James May.
- 33:05Yes.
- 33:06It does look like James May.
- 33:07But that hat was Burt Reynolds big hat.
- 33:10Like, it was so funny.
- 33:12And he had an all red Ferrari suit.
- 33:14He's a British guy.
- 33:15We actually talked to him.
- 33:16Very nice.
- 33:17But I could not pass up the opportunity.
- 33:19to post that meme.
- 33:20And the second one came by way of Mark Schenck, who caught this guy
- 33:26while he was taking photographs.
- 33:28Apparently on your checklist of things for Lamont, you need to remember your hat,
- 33:33your radio headset, and your radar gun.
- 33:35He's got like a hundred tattoos and they're all Lamont.
- 33:39They're all Christopher Walken.
- 33:40No, he's got like the Dunlop tire arch across his back.
- 33:45It's like Jackie Ickx and Tom Christensen on there.
- 33:48He's got a Porsche and the Porsche symbol.
- 33:50He's got so many men's heads.
- 33:52I thought it was Christopher Walken, the one on the right shoulder.
- 33:55It looks like Christopher Walken.
- 33:57So when Mark showed me this picture, we had this whole discussion about,
- 34:00apparently he was down by pit out and he's radar gunning the cars on pit exit.
- 34:05And we're like, Is he going to radio the officials?
- 34:08Is he like the clandestine undercover pit marshal?
- 34:11Like, what's the point of bringing a radar gun to Lamont?
- 34:15And how did he get it through security?
- 34:17I mean, there's so many questions.
- 34:19This is like a French Florida man.
- 34:21He hit it in his butt crack.
- 34:23Was there actually security?
- 34:24Were they checking stuff?
- 34:25Yes.
- 34:26They were looking through your bags.
- 34:27Maybe he's an authorized radar gun.
- 34:30He definitely didn't hide it in his wife, Peter.
- 34:34Hey, it's tie dye though, okay?
- 34:36That makes it classy.
- 34:38Is that tie dye, or he's just, he had a Bic that blew up?
- 34:41Or he murdered a Smurf, I'm not sure.
- 34:43Now, I, I'd say this guy was from America, but unfortunately
- 34:49I don't think that's the case.
- 34:51No, I think he's German.
- 34:52I was going to say the same thing.
- 34:54He's definitely German.
- 34:56He spreckens the Deutsch.
- 34:57He spreckens the radar gun.
- 34:59We're going to do a little lit hug here, because one of my biggest
- 35:03pet peeves about being at Le Mans.
- 35:06Tell us what really grinds your gears.
- 35:07Oh boy, oh boy.
- 35:08Oh, you mean the baguettes?
- 35:12No, it's just never going to let me live that down.
- 35:15The baguettes were terrible.
- 35:17What really hardens your baguette?
- 35:21Oh man.
- 35:22Well, you know, it's a, it's a cultural thing, right?
- 35:25So it was like, I don't know, a red nose on a clown.
- 35:28You could tell the Kiwis, the Canadians, the Aussies, the Americans,
- 35:33Germans from everybody else.
- 35:35Because you know why?
- 35:36We know how to queue up in the line when we want to wait for something.
- 35:40I mean, we might not be the most pleasant people.
- 35:43We might not be the most patient people, but we know how to get in
- 35:45the line to wait for something.
- 35:47The French and some of the others.
- 35:49I mean, no offense.
- 35:49We love them all.
- 35:50There are brothers in arms, especially in motorsport, but this first come
- 35:55first serve, I'm at a bar trying to get the bartenders attention while
- 36:00I'm smoking a cigarette three inches from your ear and shouting in French.
- 36:05As obnoxiously as you possibly can just got on my nerves,
- 36:09like you wouldn't believe.
- 36:10And I couldn't believe that smoking was still as openly public and
- 36:14rampant as it was over there.
- 36:15It's just, we're so used to now, you know, people change the vaping,
- 36:18which is, you know, neither.
- 36:19You haven't been to Europe in a while.
- 36:21Jesus Christ.
- 36:22I guess I don't know, but it was evident from the cigarette
- 36:24butts and everything everywhere.
- 36:26But it was just like, I never realized maybe even it's a post
- 36:29COVID thing where it's like.
- 36:31I need my elbows worth of space.
- 36:33Please back off.
- 36:34Get in a line.
- 36:35I was here before you.
- 36:37It was super irritating and it's cultural.
- 36:40Right.
- 36:40And you're like, Oh, okay.
- 36:42Uh, all right.
- 36:43The other thing I learned, thanks, David, was you don't tip in France.
- 36:46And if you do, it's like super low.
- 36:47It's like a dollar or two, because apparently everybody over there
- 36:49is salary and tipping is very taboo and all this kind of thing.
- 36:54And tipping is like an American don't really tip in Europe in general.
- 36:58Yeah, it was, it was weird.
- 37:00I don't know.
- 37:00It was a culture shock that I was pleasant to learn and I will remember that, but
- 37:04the whole, the way you fight to the front to get the attention of somebody.
- 37:09And it's just like, Oh, whatever.
- 37:10And don't lie to me.
- 37:11Y'all know how to speak English.
- 37:12I feel like I would have gotten into a lot of fights.
- 37:15You know, I needed a body guard.
- 37:16That's for sure.
- 37:17Freedom fries.
- 37:18That's all I'm going to say.
- 37:20So after I left France, I went to Denmark and I joined my family
- 37:24because we decided we were going to take the kids to of all places.
- 37:27The home of Lego, which is Denmark.
- 37:31I won't go into all the details of Denmark, but I will say this.
- 37:34It's sort of like Hawaii.
- 37:35It's a chain of islands.
- 37:36You know, they get bigger, all this kind of thing.
- 37:38Copenhagen, the capital is on the smallest and it's within an hour of Oslo, Norway.
- 37:43end of Stockholm, Sweden.
- 37:45It's beautiful.
- 37:46It's super clean.
- 37:47It's very modern.
- 37:48I kept joking that that's where all the German hippies were exiled
- 37:50to, you know, stuff like that.
- 37:52It's amazing.
- 37:53It was very different.
- 37:54It was a stark contrast to being in France and really enjoyed it.
- 37:58Had a great time.
- 37:59And one of the things I learned while I was over there is by 2025.
- 38:05Mass transit vehicles, especially taxis and buses and things like
- 38:08that, will be all EVs in Denmark.
- 38:11It's the law.
- 38:12We didn't rent a car while we were there, so no more Fiat 500 stories.
- 38:15But we did take the trains, which were amazing.
- 38:18And then we took some cabs, which in our case were mostly Mercedes.
- 38:22And so I got to ride in some of these new Mercedes EVs that
- 38:25we talk about on the show.
- 38:27Fit and finish.
- 38:28Was nothing less than exquisite, even though we've always joked that
- 38:32Mercedes are just European taxi cabs.
- 38:34They are, in fact.
- 38:35But the interior was plush.
- 38:37It was luxurious.
- 38:38It was German.
- 38:39It was what you expected from a Mercedes.
- 38:42But if you had blindfolded me and threw me in the trunk, other than
- 38:46having no noise, would I have known that it wasn't an ICE powered car?
- 38:49Probably not.
- 38:50It was very nice.
- 38:51It was just interesting to even talk to the cabbies.
- 38:54Everybody in Denmark is very friendly.
- 38:55It's known as one of the happiest places in the world to live
- 38:58and work and things like that.
- 38:59And so people are very friendly and they all do speak English in Denmark.
- 39:02Admittedly, they do.
- 39:04It was great.
- 39:04It was good to learn from all those folks.
- 39:06We actually went and visited some car dealerships while we were there.
- 39:10And we got a guided tour of the new ID7 and the ID3 at Citi
- 39:14Volkswagen in Copenhagen, which is just outside of Tivoli.
- 39:16And I know Tanya got to see these cars while she was at the CES show.
- 39:20We reported about that on an earlier drive thru.
- 39:23But I actually spotted XPeng dealership across the street
- 39:27from the Volkswagen dealership.
- 39:29So I thought that was interesting because we joked about like, Who's this?
- 39:31But where are these guys?
- 39:32These Chinese EV manufacturers?
- 39:33Where'd they come from?
- 39:35They got a dealership.
- 39:36In Copenhagen.
- 39:37Of all places.
- 39:38Right?
- 39:38Now, I do want to quickly talk about the Legoland experience, and I don't
- 39:42want to talk about amusement parks and things like that, but I want to mention
- 39:46that Legos are not just for kids.
- 39:48All right?
- 39:49Our generation is in charge at Lego.
- 39:52There is a lot of car stuff going on, as evidenced by the Speed Champions,
- 39:56the Technic stuff, all things you can buy on the shelf here in the U.
- 39:59S.
- 39:59There's some really cool stuff overseas that we won't get, but I will say the
- 40:03Ferrari Experience Center at Legoland.
- 40:06All petrol heads were all just, just doing the church nod right now.
- 40:09It was like a holy church of Ferrari.
- 40:11You just walked in there.
- 40:12It was amazing.
- 40:13Bunch of stuff on display.
- 40:15All these activities.
- 40:16My girls were into it.
- 40:17We did it for a while.
- 40:18Took some pictures by a life size 599 that they built completely out of Legos.
- 40:22Other than the wheels.
- 40:23Absolutely gorgeous.
- 40:24You know, stuff like that.
- 40:25But I will say there's a video you guys got to check out.
- 40:27If you haven't seen it, we captured the infamous.
- 40:30Legendary long running Lego land traffic school.
- 40:34And it is the cutest and most hilarious thing you have ever seen.
- 40:38So cannot recommend that enough.
- 40:39I got deeper into the world of Lego upon returning home and I
- 40:43learned some new things, some new techniques while I was there.
- 40:45Lots of really interesting stuff while we were in Denmark
- 40:47and I learned about a website.
- 40:49Maybe in more detail than I knew before.
- 40:51And that's rebrickable.
- 40:53com.
- 40:53And that allows you to take some Lego sets and turn them into some other really cool
- 40:57things without having to buy new parts.
- 40:59And I mentioned before that, you know, under some rich people things, there was
- 41:02some kits that you could get from like the block zone to build, you know, different
- 41:06kinds of automotive models that are out.
- 41:08I found the best of the best.
- 41:11At least in my opinion, you take Dom Toretto's charger from fast and furious.
- 41:16And did you know, you can turn it into the 1989 Batmobile,
- 41:20the Michael Keaton Batmobile.
- 41:22It is the hotness.
- 41:23And so I went ahead and did it.
- 41:24I have some pictures on doing the conversion.
- 41:27Just a lot of fun.
- 41:28And so that kind of reignited some stuff for me, where it's just like a
- 41:32good way to spend time with the kids.
- 41:33They're interested in, you know, building their little towns, but also in the
- 41:36engineering side with the cars and stuff.
- 41:38So that's been a lot of fun.
- 41:39So if you're out there looking for maybe a different hobby,
- 41:42something new, don't discount Lego.
- 41:44That's for sure.
- 41:45And then to round out our showcase here of world travel, Tanya and I, I
- 41:50guess she was right, I went with her to the great French colony of Quebec
- 41:55in Canada, to the city of Montreal.
- 41:57So I couldn't get away from the French this summer if I tried.
- 42:01But we had a better baguette.
- 42:03Oh, we did.
- 42:04And we had poutine, and we had some brisket, and we had
- 42:07all sorts of fun food, Brad.
- 42:08The food in Quebec.
- 42:10It's better than the food in France.
- 42:11Well, it's better than the food in Le Mans.
- 42:14My dinner in Paris wasn't that great either.
- 42:16But I did sit down for a moment with Jensen Button and Jordan Taylor.
- 42:20It was a great conversation, especially after them completing
- 42:23the race with the Garage 56 car.
- 42:25So that was pretty cool.
- 42:25Wait, how did, wait, how did you end up having dinner with them?
- 42:28We were at the hotel and I'm sitting there chatting with David from MIE Racing
- 42:32and I wasn't even paying attention.
- 42:34And then he kind of looks over his shoulder and he goes, you
- 42:36know who those two are, right?
- 42:37And I said, yeah.
- 42:39He goes, let's go over and talk to him.
- 42:40Okay.
- 42:41That's literally how it went down.
- 42:43But then you had a whole meal with them or?
- 42:44No, we, we chatted with them for like five or seven minutes.
- 42:48They were just kind of hanging out.
- 42:49They were done eating.
- 42:50They were just kind of sitting and drinking.
- 42:52And then we went back to our table.
- 42:53So we sort of abandoned our meal, went and talked to them before they disappeared.
- 42:57So yeah, it was great.
- 42:58I mean, got to meet him.
- 42:59We didn't do the whole, can I take a selfie with you?
- 43:01Can I that type of guy.
- 43:02Neither is David.
- 43:03It was really great to have that memory to be able to talk to them.
- 43:06So you didn't invite them on the show?
- 43:07Cause I've been trying to get Jordan Taylor on the show.
- 43:09I mean, I think Jensen button would be pretty cool too.
- 43:12So anyway, I, we, we've gone off the rails somehow.
- 43:15Did you know I went to France?
- 43:16Oh, wait, Canada.
- 43:17We're talking about Canada.
- 43:19That's right.
- 43:19You went to France and then little France, little France, exactly.
- 43:22Quebec.
- 43:23Petit la France.
- 43:25Petit la France.
- 43:26In preparation for this trip, I decided, you know what, I should
- 43:30probably do a service on my Jeep.
- 43:33And I looked at my records and I realized I hadn't changed oil in a year, but
- 43:36I also hadn't done 10, 000 miles yet.
- 43:38I was very close though.
- 43:39So I was like, Oh crud.
- 43:40So I went through, did all the service.
- 43:42And at this point I decided, you know what, now is the time we're going
- 43:45to go on in this long journey to Montreal from the DC area and back.
- 43:49I'm going to put it evolve in the diesel and see how it does.
- 43:52Does it match the hype?
- 43:53Does it match everything we talked about on the episode?
- 43:56Granted, I had already put it in the Pacifica and we
- 44:00already noticed the change.
- 44:01It runs cooler, you know, this kind of stuff.
- 44:02But the hybrid's different because the engine doesn't run all the time, right?
- 44:05It wants to be an EV more than it wants to be ice powered.
- 44:08So the one thing I noticed right away, and I think Tanya probably noticed it
- 44:11too, the engine is noticeably quieter.
- 44:14Immediately, like as soon as I put the oil in and fired it
- 44:16up, it was definitely quieter.
- 44:18I was like, huh.
- 44:18I mean, and diesels are loud, right?
- 44:20So you're just like, oh, okay.
- 44:21The telltale sign here is, and this is where the numbers are
- 44:24sort of interesting, right?
- 44:25They talk about MPGs being higher.
- 44:28They talk about horsepower being greater, all this kind of stuff.
- 44:31And it has to do with the composition of the oil and all these things you can learn
- 44:34about on the Evolve Lubricants episode.
- 44:36What I boiled it down to is.
- 44:40The oil itself runs significantly cooler than what I had in it before.
- 44:45And on average, it was six to 12 degrees cooler, depending on load,
- 44:49than the oil I was running previously.
- 44:51So if your engine is running cooler, it's going to be more efficient.
- 44:53You're going to waste less fuel, you know, all these kinds
- 44:55of things, blah, blah, blah.
- 44:56So it all sort of adds up in that way.
- 44:58What I didn't see Was the four to five more miles per gallon or
- 45:04anything like that, but dot dot dot what I got out of this was
- 45:08overall higher cumulative average.
- 45:12So with mixed city driving my maximum of 33 miles per gallon, which we
- 45:17already proved at the Green Grand Prix using my near year old oil.
- 45:21I was getting 32 point whatever miles to the gallon during that event.
- 45:25And so I didn't get better than 33, but I was able to hold it there longer.
- 45:30I was able to keep my average higher.
- 45:32So maybe my MPG is higher, but I don't see a huge spike.
- 45:37When I do the math at the end of the day, right?
- 45:39It's like, okay, well, I'm getting 32, but I'm getting 32.
- 45:43Much longer than I was getting it before.
- 45:44What I guess what I'm trying to say is the numbers sort of add up.
- 45:47Now the bigger question comes in return on investment.
- 45:51Is it worth the cost?
- 45:52Because it is significantly more expensive.
- 45:54I've sent my oil off to Blackstone to have it tested.
- 45:57I'm going to go maybe a service interval and a half.
- 45:59So I'm going to try to put 15, 000 miles on the oil.
- 46:02That'll take me like two years, obviously.
- 46:03Test it again and see where we're at.
- 46:05Did the turbo torch it?
- 46:07Did it break down?
- 46:08How did it hold up?
- 46:09If it comes out as clean as it went in.
- 46:12To use that phrasing, then it's probably worth it.
- 46:14If you can go to X, the oil change with these higher results, the engines running
- 46:19cooler, you're seeing a higher cumulative average, all that kind of stuff.
- 46:22So for me going to Montreal was this really awesome experiment,
- 46:26real life testing with this new technology, this new oil by evolve.
- 46:32So I think I'm satisfied so far and we'll check back in.
- 46:36as we go along.
- 46:37So other cool things we saw in Montreal, right, Tanya?
- 46:40Oh my gosh.
- 46:41We saw a VinFast dealer in the mall.
- 46:44Another oddball, what, Vietnamese EV company or something like that?
- 46:49We also saw they were building a VinFast dealer and service, well,
- 46:55I guess maybe more service center, uh, somewhere out kind of in the
- 46:58middle of nowhere off the highway.
- 47:00So it looks like VinFast is making a move to be in Montreal of all places.
- 47:04So that was kind of cool.
- 47:05Like, again, we read about these and sometimes maybe we chuckle like, or
- 47:08who is this brand, but Xpeng, VinFast and others showing up in some of these
- 47:13other countries, if, and when they'll ever come to the U S we don't know.
- 47:16Right.
- 47:16They were at CES.
- 47:17They had a huge display there.
- 47:19So there were some annoying things about being in Montreal, like the traffic laws.
- 47:26Admittedly, some of their traffic signals made no sense, like the
- 47:31stoplights didn't make sense.
- 47:34As weird as that is to say, there would be like double colors sometimes.
- 47:40Which you could interpret to be like no turn on red kind of thing, but
- 47:45then there'd be like double green.
- 47:47I think at one point, like, what does that mean?
- 47:49And then there was a delay, like, part one of the greens would
- 47:52come, but then the other wouldn't.
- 47:54It was a green arrow pointing forward.
- 47:56Yeah.
- 47:57I've never seen that before.
- 47:58And then so people wouldn't move, and you're like, the light's green,
- 48:01and then the other light would turn green, and then they would go.
- 48:05It's like, I don't understand.
- 48:08I've never seen we only have three choices and you couldn't tell when you were in
- 48:13the city limits or out of the city limits because apparently there's no right turn
- 48:17on red anywhere in the city limits of Montreal but then one of the times we went
- 48:21out we thought we were still and then I'm sitting at the light Trying to be nice.
- 48:25I even changed my speedometer over to kilometers, you know, stuff like that.
- 48:29I'm trying to follow their rules.
- 48:30And this lady's behind me, hawking at me.
- 48:32And I'm like, I didn't think I was supposed to turn, but it was one of
- 48:34those stupid lights where it had a straight arrow and a right arrow.
- 48:37And I'm like, I don't know what to do anymore.
- 48:39Diagonal arrow and a back arrow.
- 48:42And it was like 18.
- 48:43Symbols so confusing.
- 48:46It was weird.
- 48:47Unlike Canada, Denmark, the traffic lights, they did something
- 48:51really, really interesting.
- 48:52When it's about to switch from green to red, they flash the yellow in both
- 48:57directions, so you know that it's about to change, and so you get this anticipation
- 49:00like, oh, the light's gonna change.
- 49:02That's pretty cool.
- 49:03I found that to be like delightfully refreshing.
- 49:05It's like, oh look, the light's gonna change.
- 49:07Pay attention.
- 49:07Sucker . Oh look, the light's gonna change.
- 49:09Floor it.
- 49:10Yeah.
- 49:10What's your reaction time?
- 49:12Do you go on the yellow?
- 49:14They do drive slower in Canada, although they are situationally aware, like they
- 49:19are in Europe, like passing is easy.
- 49:21People stay in the right lane, zipper merging, all the things
- 49:25you expect when you're over there.
- 49:26It's just some of the stuff is just, I don't know.
- 49:28It's just a little bizarre.
- 49:29And you're like, okay, zero parking in the city too.
- 49:32That was finding a, you know, a white fly, but in France.
- 49:37All the cars are obviously small.
- 49:39Every once in a while, there's like an X5 or a Cayenne or something like that.
- 49:43We saw one guy with a pickup truck, American, like Dodge Ram.
- 49:46You're like, Oh, he's got to be military.
- 49:48Cause there's no other reason for that to be here.
- 49:50But when I went to Canada, I was like the Jeep in Montreal.
- 49:53I was like the biggest thing on the road.
- 49:55It was really weird because I am the largest thing here and parking.
- 49:59It was fun.
- 50:00This is interesting.
- 50:01But I also found that a lot of their cars were older up there too.
- 50:04Not a ton of new stuff, new, new stuff.
- 50:06Like in the last couple of years on the roads, maybe that has to do with the
- 50:09fact that the Canadian dollar is like in a weaker than ours, it's like a 25
- 50:13percent discount hashtag chips, but we did get to do something really cool.
- 50:17Tanya's suggestion.
- 50:18What was that?
- 50:19We went to the circuit.
- 50:23The F1 track in Montreal.
- 50:25Because apparently the entire island is basically a public park and the track
- 50:29is just open all the time to anyone.
- 50:31They put cones down, they split the track lane.
- 50:34The right side gets to be public traffic that can just at a slow speed
- 50:38and they got lots of stop signs up so you really can't do anything crazy.
- 50:41Do as many laps as you want I guess.
- 50:43I don't think they'll ever kick you out.
- 50:43You could go all day.
- 50:44The place is open like literally from sun up to sundown.
- 50:48And then on the left hand side, bicyclists.
- 50:51Joggers, walkers, bladers, anything you can do outside of your vehicle,
- 50:56you get the lane next to it.
- 50:58And we measured, it's about two and a half miles.
- 51:00Just under something like that, which...
- 51:02I will say the speed limit was suggested at some points.
- 51:04We were going a little quicker than the speed limit.
- 51:06We did take video of it, it's available on our club YouTube channel.
- 51:10I've always joked that they're driving around a potato because,
- 51:13you know, it's on an island.
- 51:14I can understand why it's so difficult to get.
- 51:17on and off of that track as a spectator.
- 51:21There's very little grandstands because there's just not a lot of...
- 51:25What's the word, Tanya?
- 51:26Talking about space, the track itself, like, I don't know, I didn't
- 51:29appreciate it when you watch the races, but that sucker is narrow AF.
- 51:35There is no space.
- 51:38And no runoff.
- 51:39You have no room for error.
- 51:42If it's three abreast at its widest, it's wide.
- 51:46That's it.
- 51:46But it is super narrow.
- 51:48The turns are really tight.
- 51:50It feels like when you drive it, you're just doing like what we would call
- 51:54an autocross to one cone turnarounds.
- 51:56It's like a really narrow oval track.
- 51:58Almost.
- 51:58It's just, I would love to drive a Miata there at full bore or something
- 52:02small, you know, like a little cars, I think would be a lot of fun there.
- 52:06Something high horsepower, like Corvette or 911 and you screw up.
- 52:10It's going to be a bad day for you.
- 52:12But we did it.
- 52:13We can say where we do like four laps, something like that.
- 52:16Yeah.
- 52:17We just, we're like, oh, let's just keep going.
- 52:19Just keep going.
- 52:19Just keep going.
- 52:20If I lived there, I would be biking that all the time.
- 52:23The problem is it takes forever to get there.
- 52:25Yeah.
- 52:27And I don't know where you'd park.
- 52:29How do you get to it?
- 52:30Like, is there a ferry?
- 52:31Is there a bridge?
- 52:32No, there's a bridge.
- 52:33Two bridges.
- 52:34There's like one on one end corner of the island and one that comes
- 52:37in the middle of the potato.
- 52:38Because at the top of the island is Six Flags Montreal.
- 52:41Yeah.
- 52:42Oh god, that's a terrible design.
- 52:44You have to get to the island to go to Six Flags.
- 52:47Can you bike or walk across the bridge?
- 52:50Like, is it safe for that?
- 52:51I didn't pay attention when we were driving across it.
- 52:54There were people walking.
- 52:55There's a sidewalk.
- 52:55I mean, Montreal as a city is generally pretty walkable.
- 52:58The problem is the area right before you get to the track is like
- 53:03being at the wharf in Baltimore where all the sea containers are
- 53:06and stuff or like Long Beach, you know, where all the boats come in.
- 53:09So it's sort of the same thing.
- 53:10And you're like, I don't know that I want to be hanging out
- 53:12down there as a pedestrian.
- 53:14I didn't see too many hotels.
- 53:16There is a casino on the island, which is in sort of the middle of the track.
- 53:20It looks like a giant aviary.
- 53:21So there's a lot of stuff packed into a small space when you get there.
- 53:25And again, this is why they have to shuttle you in and out of that
- 53:29place, if you go to spectate.
- 53:30Now that I've been there, my want to go to the Canadian Grand Prix in person.
- 53:36I'm sort of like Tanya.
- 53:36I'm like, I'll watch this from the comfort of my couch.
- 53:39It would be hectic to go like that would be.
- 53:42Frustrating, I think.
- 53:43You would probably have to park on the other side.
- 53:46Beware, because there's no parking, like, anywhere.
- 53:49Next to the shipping containers.
- 53:51You're a mile away or more at that point, for sure.
- 53:54Somehow they figured it out.
- 53:55They don't want to go out there.
- 53:56But that's also why there's a limited number of...
- 53:58Seats and tickets and everything to get that sells out so fast, because
- 54:01again, you don't realize how small it is until you see it in person.
- 54:04So it was a neat experience.
- 54:06Summer's not over yet.
- 54:07And we do have some other travel in store and we'll talk about
- 54:10that as we go along here, but that sort of wraps up our showcase.
- 54:13Brad, what did you learn?
- 54:14Do you think you want to go on a European vacation?
- 54:17Actually, I'm going to turn your question to me into another question for you.
- 54:22Oh boy.
- 54:22It's inception time.
- 54:23You've been to several different professional races now.
- 54:28One, would you do it again?
- 54:30And two, is this now your favorite experience in a professional race?
- 54:35I've heard that the Nürburgring 24 is also a spectacle and it's pretty awesome to
- 54:41go to, so I got to reserve judgment, but I think this race and the Nürburgring 24
- 54:46are sort of in a category unto themselves.
- 54:49It's hard to compare the experience.
- 54:52That you would get it petite or at Salins or any of the other races,
- 54:56even the Indy 500 for that matter.
- 54:58And those are great races.
- 54:59Don't get me wrong.
- 55:00Le Mans is just so over the top.
- 55:02It's so different.
- 55:03330, 000 people spread across, you know, it doesn't seem like it's
- 55:08that many people, but it's packed.
- 55:09It's the history, all the extra things that were going on, even when they pulled
- 55:13all the cars out of the museum, ran them on track, all the stuff that just.
- 55:17It was unbelievable.
- 55:18Part of it was because it was the 100th.
- 55:20And I don't know that every Le Mans is like that.
- 55:22It's all that, you know, pomp and circumstance that
- 55:24was going on for this one.
- 55:25I think the 101st is going to be a big deal because of all the
- 55:29cars that didn't come for this one are going to be there next year.
- 55:32So I think next year is going to be really exciting.
- 55:34Would I go back?
- 55:35Yes.
- 55:36I've already planned to in nine years.
- 55:39For the second hundredth, which is the hundredth running of Lamont's not
- 55:42the hundredth anniversary of Lamont.
- 55:44So I'm really curious to see how obviously things evolve over the next decade.
- 55:48I'm going to be a fan for life for sure.
- 55:50It was an unforgettable experience.
- 55:52It was completely surreal.
- 55:53It's still even thinking about it, looking back, it's like,
- 55:56wow, we did all these things.
- 55:57And there's so many things I even forgot because you're operating on
- 56:00very little sleep and only baguettes.
- 56:02I needed.
- 56:03Denmark just to decompress from Lamar and then come home from that.
- 56:07It was just a whirlwind kind of thing.
- 56:08So in answer to your question, yes.
- 56:11I mean, I have always loved Lamar and I think I will continue to do so until
- 56:14the day they don't race there anymore.
- 56:16Well, we do have some light fare for our drive through fans out there.
- 56:22So we are going to talk about.
- 56:24Porsche Audi and Volkswagen news really quick.
- 56:26There's a video link we want to share with you guys narrated by Patrick McDreamy
- 56:31Dempsey himself about Porsche at Le Mans.
- 56:34It probably ends with him crying.
- 56:38We all know how this story ended.
- 56:39Okay guys, right Ty?
- 56:40We know, we know how it ended.
- 56:42One of the things that happened during Le Mans, people ask
- 56:45me, were there support races?
- 56:47Was there this?
- 56:47Was there that?
- 56:48And there are some support races.
- 56:49There's a Ferrari challenge race, which, you know, I took videos of.
- 56:52They wrecked in the first corner, which is fantastic, on the first
- 56:55lap, you know, because cold tires.
- 56:56And there's a Porsche challenge race, and that's super cool
- 56:59and all that kind of stuff.
- 57:00The things you would expect that you've seen at an IMSA race before.
- 57:02As I mentioned, they pulled all the cars out of the museum, driven by a
- 57:06lot of the legends of Le Mans, and that was like 20 30 minutes of just
- 57:10pure awesomeness to see cars from the early 1920s all the way through up to
- 57:16the cars of last year out on track at full song, 917s, Audis, Peugeots, BMWs,
- 57:22Bugattis, Bentleys, you name it, right?
- 57:24Amazing.
- 57:25But Bugatti, that was the name that was missing from the roster this year.
- 57:29I mean, it's the great race.
- 57:30It's the hundredth.
- 57:31Where's the pinnacle of French automotive engineering?
- 57:34Where's Bugatti?
- 57:35Peugeot was there.
- 57:36That's Stellantis.
- 57:37Let's be serious now.
- 57:39They brought out the new Bolide during one of the lunch breaks,
- 57:43and they had it out on track for like 20 minutes doing hot laps.
- 57:47And I tell you what, You're looking at the lineup for 2024 with the new Lambo
- 57:51and the Porsche 9X and everything else.
- 57:54The Bolide is like the Batmobile.
- 57:56Absolutely amazing.
- 57:59Ballistically quick.
- 58:00And it was quiet too.
- 58:01So you weren't sure what was going on.
- 58:03You thought the track was cold.
- 58:04And then there's just this blue and black blur that just, Whoa, rockets by.
- 58:08Right.
- 58:09And you're like, Whoa, I can't wait to see a Bugatti.
- 58:12Back on track, especially at Lamont.
- 58:14So I am super hopeful for this.
- 58:16And I'm hoping that that test session was really to get everybody revved
- 58:20up and tease us for the 2024 entry.
- 58:23As I stated before, Lambo has unveiled their GTP prototype for next year.
- 58:28And it also looks fantastic.
- 58:30If that car's coming out, I'm telling you, there's going to be a
- 58:33Porsche that's very similar to it.
- 58:34I still think the Ferrari looks better.
- 58:36499 is gorgeous.
- 58:37I mean, don't get me wrong.
- 58:38It's awesome.
- 58:38The Lambo looks like what you would think a Lambo would look like.
- 58:41The angles and all that stuff.
- 58:43Yeah, I'm still the Ferrari guy.
- 58:45The 499, that paint livery.
- 58:48Throws back all the way to the three 30 P four from the late sixties,
- 58:53which was basically the last time they won at Lamar, especially overall,
- 58:57I got to see that car in the museum is out on track, all that stuff.
- 59:00I mean, just absolutely amazing.
- 59:02And those old Ferraris are just.
- 59:04Absolutely fantastic.
- 59:05Since we mentioned the Peugeot and just a little bit of student news,
- 59:08not only did push out, come out with their new car, which we've been
- 59:11talking about for basically a year now, the nine X eight, like I said
- 59:15before, it is fire aesthetically.
- 59:17It is a beautiful car at the Peugeot booth.
- 59:20Which we were at several times for multiple reasons, they had this big Lego
- 59:24box sitting next to one of the cars.
- 59:26And I'm like, what is this all about?
- 59:28David jokingly said, ah, they're probably going to bring out like a life size one
- 59:31or something like that at some point.
- 59:32Cause there's like this countdown timer.
- 59:33And I said, what are they going to build it here while we're waiting?
- 59:36Like all the parts can't be in that box.
- 59:38So at one point they shut the whole thing down, you know,
- 59:41put up the curtains, whatever.
- 59:42And then they unveiled a full size replica Lego Technic version of the 9x8, which
- 59:47is an upscale version of the Lego Technic that you can buy today in the Lego store.
- 59:53And it is absolutely awesome.
- 59:54The stuff that the guys at Lego can do is just brilliant.
- 59:57I got all sorts of pictures of the car from different angles and stuff like that,
- 1:00:00but there was something else that came up.
- 1:00:02So we're in the booth and we're actually talking to the founder, CEO
- 1:00:05of Playseat, like having a good time.
- 1:00:07We're trying out their simulator, all this kind of thing.
- 1:00:09I see all these people working the booth, got their Peugeot swag on.
- 1:00:12And on the back, they have this Lego Technic Peugeot t shirt thing.
- 1:00:15I'm like, I want one of those.
- 1:00:16So I go into the store and I'm looking at some stuff.
- 1:00:18I was like, Oh yeah, they got this really nice looking hoodie.
- 1:00:21I love me some black hoodies.
- 1:00:23And they got this lime green and silver accents.
- 1:00:25I want to get one.
- 1:00:27I want to get this Lego shirt, right?
- 1:00:28Cause I think it's really cool.
- 1:00:29It's a good way to kind of bridge the two worlds.
- 1:00:31So I go up to the counter sort of in French.
- 1:00:33Do you speak English?
- 1:00:34And like, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:35Okay.
- 1:00:35English.
- 1:00:36I told the guy, I said, I would like this hoodie in American XL.
- 1:00:39And he never been so off put in my life.
- 1:00:41He goes, yes, you are XL.
- 1:00:43And I'm like, Oh, Oh, Oh, okay.
- 1:00:46All right.
- 1:00:47Bye.
- 1:00:48So he comes back, goes, we don't have it in that color.
- 1:00:50We only have it in gray.
- 1:00:51Well, I'm like, I don't wear gray.
- 1:00:52So that's fine.
- 1:00:52So I said, what about this Lego technique t shirt that your guys
- 1:00:55are wearing over on the floor?
- 1:00:57He goes, we do not sell this year.
- 1:00:59You must go to Lego.
- 1:01:00And there's a Lego store at Lamont.
- 1:01:02So I was like, okay, cool.
- 1:01:03I tell David, after we wrap up, we go over there, the Lego store.
- 1:01:06And I said, I took a picture of it just because I thought it was cool anyway.
- 1:01:09And I show the lady and she goes, I don't know what you're talking about.
- 1:01:11You need to go to push it out and get it from them.
- 1:01:13I'm like, all right, I've had enough.
- 1:01:15We've been through this already.
- 1:01:17It's not happening.
- 1:01:18So I gave up.
- 1:01:18I'm still looking for that t shirt.
- 1:01:19So if anybody sees it, I want it.
- 1:01:21You didn't take your XL ass back over to Peugeot and say,
- 1:01:24where's my fricking t shirt?
- 1:01:25Yeah, right.
- 1:01:25You are XS.
- 1:01:27Oh, okay.
- 1:01:27I wonder what he would have said to me.
- 1:01:30Now it's time for a little bit of domestic news brought AmericanMuscle.
- 1:01:34com, your source for OEM and performance parts for your
- 1:01:37Chevy, Ford, or Mopar vehicle.
- 1:01:39We heard the bad news, right?
- 1:01:40Brad, I mean, you've had a big crying in your Wheaties this whole time.
- 1:01:43It's sad, but I, I haven't been excited about team Corvette since the C7R.
- 1:01:48So it's been what, two or three years now that I've just been kind of mad on them.
- 1:01:52It's sad, but Ford did the same thing with the Ford GT not too long ago.
- 1:01:56What was that two years ago, they dropped it and opted for privateers instead.
- 1:02:01So for those of you trying to figure out what Brad's talking about, GM's Team
- 1:02:04Corvette Racing is no longer a thing.
- 1:02:07They have announced Corvette's retirement this year.
- 1:02:09They announced it at Le Mans and they are moving to a privateer
- 1:02:12model, which is what Ferrari and Porsche have done for many years now.
- 1:02:15So this is not uncommon.
- 1:02:16So they're going to supply the teams.
- 1:02:18With the cars and the parts and everything else, but it's up to the
- 1:02:21teams to figure out what they're going to do with those cars and how they're
- 1:02:24going to campaign them, who's going to drive them and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:02:27So after what didn't it start with Dale Earnhardt with the C five with the C five.
- 1:02:32Yeah.
- 1:02:32So that was early two thousands late nineties.
- 1:02:35Yeah.
- 1:02:35So let's say almost 25 years for sure.
- 1:02:37It's sad to see team Corvette go.
- 1:02:39Yes.
- 1:02:40We mentioned it before.
- 1:02:42Garage 56.
- 1:02:44People were laughing.
- 1:02:45They were laughing hard.
- 1:02:46They were making fun of the NASCAR special.
- 1:02:48Oh, this and that.
- 1:02:49That car's never going to make it, as I mentioned.
- 1:02:51But against all odds, they kicked ass.
- 1:02:54Blue passes for prototype cars.
- 1:02:57I tell you what, seeing it in person, their closing speeds and
- 1:03:01their ability to walk away from other cars was unbelievable.
- 1:03:06It didn't click until we were on the Ferris wheel and we could see in the
- 1:03:10distance as they would get on the straightaways and you would just watch
- 1:03:15the garage 56 car, not walk, but run away from an LMP two car unbelievably fast.
- 1:03:21It's trap speeds were ridiculous too.
- 1:03:23I mean, it's just unbelievable.
- 1:03:25I got to hand it to the team though.
- 1:03:26I mean, you look at it and you go, how much of this is really NASCAR?
- 1:03:29How much of it is modified?
- 1:03:31It's really a Camaro GT three, you know, stuff like that, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:03:34All the elements are there.
- 1:03:36We don't really see NASCARs go for that length of time.
- 1:03:39Yeah.
- 1:03:40They do 500 laps at Daytona or Talladega or whatever.
- 1:03:43And that's what four hours with 24 hours.
- 1:03:46Plus imagine.
- 1:03:48They only ran one car and they had to do all the practice sessions,
- 1:03:52all the qualifying sessions.
- 1:03:54They did more than 24 hours.
- 1:03:55Those cars, that's the other thing people don't realize.
- 1:03:57They don't run for just 24 hours.
- 1:03:58They run for like nearly two weeks by the time they're done
- 1:04:02because of all the different things that they're doing with them.
- 1:04:05Unbelievable accomplishment by that team and by the car itself.
- 1:04:08So I'm excited to see where that goes.
- 1:04:11If they do anything with it next time, I'd love to see it back next year.
- 1:04:14Every time it went by though, I was like, that's.
- 1:04:17Dollar bills and eagles and freedom coming out that exhaust pipe.
- 1:04:20I mean, it was just unreal.
- 1:04:22That's the sound of America.
- 1:04:25America, right?
- 1:04:26I mean, it was just like, you wanted to wave a flag every time it went by.
- 1:04:31It was unreal.
- 1:04:31It was just like, wow.
- 1:04:33And I will say this, the crowds at Lamar were different than they
- 1:04:37are like in an American race.
- 1:04:38You go to the Indy 500 people doing the wave and you think
- 1:04:40you're in a baseball game and it's like a whole thing over there.
- 1:04:42It was like being at a golf match and there was like light clapping and then
- 1:04:46you would hear people get excited.
- 1:04:48Like if a car, like let's say it's spun and went into the gravel trap or you get
- 1:04:51this big, like just like a golfing match.
- 1:04:53Ooh, like if somebody went off track, it was really bizarre.
- 1:04:58But I tell you what, when.
- 1:05:00The garage 56 car finished the race and cross the checker people exploded.
- 1:05:05It was just like, ah, you know, it was, that was cool to see the appreciation
- 1:05:10for that car when it finished.
- 1:05:11So can you explain the garage 56?
- 1:05:16Isn't that like a Le Mans thing?
- 1:05:18It is.
- 1:05:18It is specific to Le Mans.
- 1:05:20It is a one car class.
- 1:05:23It is designed for experimental, like, super prototype cars.
- 1:05:27It's garage number 56, because there's 55 other garages.
- 1:05:30Some of the other garage 56 cars you might remember, let's say
- 1:05:33the front wheel drive Nissan.
- 1:05:35Jerd.
- 1:05:35That is the worst Le Mans car ever.
- 1:05:37It'll go down in the history as such.
- 1:05:38The DeltaWing car, do you remember that one?
- 1:05:40Turd.
- 1:05:41Yeah.
- 1:05:42So they've been all weird stuff like that.
- 1:05:45And so the garage 56 car, that's where they stuck it.
- 1:05:48Right.
- 1:05:48It's an unlimited class.
- 1:05:49I can do whatever they want.
- 1:05:51As long as they didn't break, they were going to win their class
- 1:05:53because they're the only car in it.
- 1:05:54Is there always a garage 56 car?
- 1:05:57No, it is hit or miss.
- 1:05:59So this is the first garage 56 car, I think, since that Nissan,
- 1:06:03probably since the front wheel drive.
- 1:06:04And then has a garage 56 car ever won outright?
- 1:06:07No.
- 1:06:08No.
- 1:06:08No.
- 1:06:08No.
- 1:06:09Okay.
- 1:06:09Not in my recollection because they've always broken.
- 1:06:12So is this the first one in a long time to actually finish the race?
- 1:06:15Because I don't think the Nissan finished.
- 1:06:16No, the Nissan didn't make it, but like, I don't know, the first
- 1:06:18three hours or something like that.
- 1:06:20Yeah.
- 1:06:20Fun wheel drive.
- 1:06:21Not very fun that day.
- 1:06:22They have that car on display at the museum.
- 1:06:24It's outside in a glass box next to the EB110 Bugatti for some weird reason.
- 1:06:29But yeah, they don't even want it in the museum.
- 1:06:31It's like, I think so terrible.
- 1:06:33We'll put it out there and they don't drive it around anymore.
- 1:06:35Cause it's got broken axles.
- 1:06:37What a bad design.
- 1:06:38That was, I would say out of everything that you've experienced and explained
- 1:06:42about going to Lamar, the garage 56 car is what I have FOMO about like missing that.
- 1:06:48We got to see it up close in person, all that stuff, really kind of
- 1:06:51take a look at it and everything.
- 1:06:53I mean, sort of once in a lifetime, I mean, unless they go back, but
- 1:06:56I don't see that happening again.
- 1:06:58Although I would like to see it spawn a Camaro GT three.
- 1:07:01To go against Ford, because that's the other big reveal at Le Mans
- 1:07:05was Ford unveiled the GT three Mustang while we were there.
- 1:07:08And the only thing I heard from people was it's huge.
- 1:07:14The S six 50 is big.
- 1:07:16It's bigger than the S five 50 Mustang.
- 1:07:19But I mean, it just looked aggressive.
- 1:07:21It looked mean wide body to fit the bigger tires and everything.
- 1:07:25You know, it's going to sound amazing.
- 1:07:27It's going to be fast because the Mustang up until this point, the GT four
- 1:07:31Mustangs, as we learned following around world challenge, they're pretty limited.
- 1:07:36They were pretty neutered compared to a lot of the other cars in GT four.
- 1:07:39So I think moving up to GT three allows them to really stretch out
- 1:07:44that Shelby motor and everything else and go for gold there.
- 1:07:48Again, the hundred and first Lamont's next year's Lamont's
- 1:07:50is going to be awesome too.
- 1:07:52We'll see how it plays out.
- 1:07:53A lot of representation from America.
- 1:07:56America.
- 1:07:57Yeah.
- 1:07:57As I mentioned before, Toyota's number two car was taken out by a squirrel.
- 1:08:03It was funny and sad at the same time.
- 1:08:06And it was really stressful there for a while because there was a big battle back
- 1:08:11and forth between Ferrari and Toyota.
- 1:08:13It all came down to pitch strategy.
- 1:08:15You know, who is using less.
- 1:08:17Fuel and all this kind of stuff, tire management, all these kinds of things.
- 1:08:21I know that Ferrari was like doubling down on their tires to try to stretch
- 1:08:25out and all this kind of thing.
- 1:08:26If you looked at race speeds versus qualifying speeds, they were way down.
- 1:08:30Lap times were significantly down.
- 1:08:32You could tell the strategy was totally different during the race, but when that
- 1:08:35squirrel took out the Toyota, Oh my God.
- 1:08:37And then that Cadillac.
- 1:08:38On like the first lap coming into the Molson chicane.
- 1:08:42Oh, what a disaster.
- 1:08:43I mean, how do you cause a wreck like 90 seconds into the race?
- 1:08:47You know, they still had two other cars.
- 1:08:49The odds were in their favor.
- 1:08:50They had one more car than everybody else.
- 1:08:53You don't count the Joda 963 for Porsche.
- 1:08:56And those last couple hours there for Toyota.
- 1:08:59Once they had that big screw up where he missed the braking zone.
- 1:09:03That was it.
- 1:09:03It was Ferrari's race to lose.
- 1:09:05And you could tell they were backing way off.
- 1:09:08To conserve the car, Toyota almost a lap behind at that point.
- 1:09:11There's no way they were going to make that up in an hour, not without
- 1:09:14potentially breaking the car.
- 1:09:16I feel bad for them, but I don't at the same time.
- 1:09:20Well, let's move on to random new EVs and concept cars.
- 1:09:24A name I never thought I would hear associated with an EV.
- 1:09:27Right?
- 1:09:28Caterham.
- 1:09:29Famous for taking over production of the Lotus Super 7 in 1962.
- 1:09:35If someone just showed you a picture of this, you would never
- 1:09:37associate it with a Caterham.
- 1:09:39It looks similar to the Alpine.
- 1:09:40Which I'm glad you brought that car up.
- 1:09:43The A110, those things are all over the place in France.
- 1:09:46That's another car I would buy, no questions asked.
- 1:09:49And they have that new electric R5 looking thing that Tanya has talked about
- 1:09:53before, talking about EVs and concepts.
- 1:09:55That's going to be the hotness.
- 1:09:56Two cars we're never going to get.
- 1:09:57Womp womp.
- 1:09:58That is womp womp.
- 1:09:59Enjoy the single seater backseat with the split headrest that's
- 1:10:03built into the back wall of the car.
- 1:10:07Continuing from the last drive through, we mentioned how Toyota
- 1:10:11leadership has said that they are not interested in building pure EVs, they
- 1:10:15are sticking to the hybrid model.
- 1:10:17And you know what?
- 1:10:18I got confirmation of that while I was at the race.
- 1:10:21Combustible hydrogen is the new tech of choice.
- 1:10:25While we were at Ligier Unveiled their new, one of the first combustible
- 1:10:32hydrogen powered race cars that they developed in house sort of looks like
- 1:10:36a Ferrari 550 Maranello or 575 LM.
- 1:10:39If you look at it in pictures, we recorded the whole session,
- 1:10:42really interesting information from their vice president about it.
- 1:10:45That is the way of the future.
- 1:10:46We've been hearing that from some other people and Toyota is.
- 1:10:49Also moving in that direction, moving away from their fuel cell
- 1:10:53technology to combustible hydrogen.
- 1:10:55And the advantage to combustible hydrogen is, and this is information I understand
- 1:10:59from some folks at Bosch that I talked to, is they need to figure out how to
- 1:11:03store the hydrogen in the vehicle safely.
- 1:11:06The rest of the motor stays the same.
- 1:11:08The injection system basically stays the same, except for the nozzles.
- 1:11:13The fuel injectors that they're using and ECU, all that stuff gets reflashed.
- 1:11:17And they're basically keeping the ice cars, the way they were always
- 1:11:22built, making a few modifications and solving the hydrogen delivery problem.
- 1:11:27And now we can breathe a whole new life.
- 1:11:29Into our ice power cars and funny that we're talking about that this week
- 1:11:34as we're recording Goodwood is going on and Rowan Atkinson, famous Mr.
- 1:11:38Bean, who also happens to be a petrol head was interviewed at Goodwood because he was
- 1:11:43showcasing the new combustible hydrogen H2 Toyota GR Yaris at the hill climb.
- 1:11:49And he gives a really long talk about it and the technology and what it's like
- 1:11:53to drive and all this kind of thing.
- 1:11:55And he says right then and there.
- 1:11:56It's direct injection, you know, dah, dah, dah, all this stuff that even
- 1:12:00Bosch and Ligier were talking about.
- 1:12:02So that now is making me excited for the future.
- 1:12:05That's going to breathe new life into old cars if we can figure
- 1:12:09out how to retrofit that stuff.
- 1:12:10Sounds no different than people retrofitting their
- 1:12:12diesels to run off biofuel.
- 1:12:14Exactly.
- 1:12:15Very similar thought.
- 1:12:16It's a similar concept, and it's, it actually, it's a kind
- 1:12:19of a genius idea to not scrap.
- 1:12:22In concept.
- 1:12:23Yeah, well, yes, of course.
- 1:12:25Again, the same thing they haven't solved yet is how you onboard it, and
- 1:12:30how do you have a hydrogen fuel station.
- 1:12:33With these prototypes, they're handling that in house.
- 1:12:36They're able to construct their hydrogen containment unit, all that.
- 1:12:39But the proof of concept.
- 1:12:41is now been basically satisfied to say it can be done.
- 1:12:45Can you imagine all I see is the early scene in Zoolander where everyone's
- 1:12:51flinging the gasoline on each other to whams wake me up before you go go
- 1:12:56and then somebody goes to light their cigarette and the whole place blows up.
- 1:13:00They need to solve that problem because you can't have somebody willy nilly
- 1:13:06hydrogen into the air while they're fucking smoking their cigarette.
- 1:13:09At the fuel station.
- 1:13:10Since we're talking about breathing life into new cars,
- 1:13:13Brad, it's time for Lost and Found.
- 1:13:14What have you got for us?
- 1:13:16Oh, the usual.
- 1:13:19Nobody wants this turd of a Cadillac DeVille at Gray Chevrolet.
- 1:13:23Is it still for sale?
- 1:13:24It is still for sale.
- 1:13:26I'm starting to think there's no actual car.
- 1:13:28They just want you to call and then come in.
- 1:13:31And then there's a couple of Volkswagens.
- 1:13:32There's the 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, GLS VR six.
- 1:13:37Ice not listed.
- 1:13:38And then that four GT is still out there.
- 1:13:402008 Jetta, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:13:432012 Fiat 500.
- 1:13:45You sure your browser isn't cached from two months ago?
- 1:13:48I mean, Nope.
- 1:13:49I literally just.
- 1:13:51Did a search.
- 1:13:52They're saying people are holding onto their cars longer.
- 1:13:54Maybe that's why there's nothing good for sale, right?
- 1:13:57The whole point of this segment right here is to find the turds.
- 1:14:00There are plenty of turds out there, but the turds are all the same.
- 1:14:03no, no new turds.
- 1:14:05. Although you, you can get a 2016 Dodge Viper ACR for $800,000.
- 1:14:10Hey, that's a bargain.
- 1:14:11Let's get two.
- 1:14:11Andrew Bank.
- 1:14:12This is calling your name.
- 1:14:14He needs a second one though.
- 1:14:15You know how it works.
- 1:14:15He needs to rob a bank is what he needs to do to do that.
- 1:14:19Speaking of old cars and things for sale and whatnot.
- 1:14:21I went to my first auction.
- 1:14:23I have interviewed plenty of auctioneers and auction companies on this show.
- 1:14:27If you haven't caught those episodes, just go back into our 200 million
- 1:14:30episodes that we have online.
- 1:14:32But I'd never attended one before.
- 1:14:34I was going to say, were you on sale?
- 1:14:36Was this someone was bidding for your, like for a date
- 1:14:38with Eric or what was this?
- 1:14:41This was a motorsports legends auction at Le Mans.
- 1:14:45My original question stands.
- 1:14:49Yeah.
- 1:14:50Actually, if you weren't paying attention, you would have missed the Sotheby's
- 1:14:53building altogether because they had not a ton of signage and they kept.
- 1:14:57They close most of the time because obviously you don't want to get
- 1:14:59any of these cars dirty, but in the lineup, you had things like Ferrari,
- 1:15:04Daytona, GTB fours, you had things like XG two twenties, you had a rolling
- 1:15:10chassis of a Porsche nine one nine.
- 1:15:13You had the silk cut, jag, Lancia, LC two, like all sorts of stuff from
- 1:15:18back in the day that were for sale.
- 1:15:20We're not talking 50, 000 car.
- 1:15:22We're not talking 500, 000 car.
- 1:15:24We're talking 5 million.
- 1:15:2650 million dollar car, you know, kind of situation.
- 1:15:28And so as I've referred to it before, it was like quiet chaos.
- 1:15:33And it was everything you expected it to be like you've seen in like the
- 1:15:37movie, the red violin, you know, the guys with their paddles and the guys
- 1:15:40on the phone and the brokers and the internet, and it's getting out of control.
- 1:15:43And You know, we stayed for the Ferrari bid because that
- 1:15:46was the car we wanted to see.
- 1:15:47And when we unfortunately had to go away because we had somewhere else, we
- 1:15:50had to be, and we left and it was at 4.
- 1:15:542 million euros, which is substantially more than that car is generally worth.
- 1:15:59But because that was a legitimate Le Mans race car and like all this kind
- 1:16:03of stuff, it ended up closing at 5.
- 1:16:052 million euro.
- 1:16:06Unbelievable.
- 1:16:07It was an experience.
- 1:16:08Like nothing else, because again, I've never been to an auction before.
- 1:16:11So I'm hoping it doesn't sour me to some of the other events that I
- 1:16:15might be going to in the near future.
- 1:16:17If you've never been to a car auction, and I'm not talking about like going
- 1:16:21to Mannheim auction in Pennsylvania, like going to a Mecham or a Sotheby's
- 1:16:26or a broad arrow, or, you know, the events that happen at like pebble and
- 1:16:29things like that, do it, just go in, pay the a hundred bucks or whatever,
- 1:16:34and just sit and soak it all in.
- 1:16:36It is unbelievably stressful.
- 1:16:38But you also feel like you're sitting in the dentist's office.
- 1:16:40It's bizarre.
- 1:16:42And I write about it in an article that's linked in the show notes, if you
- 1:16:45can get more of my take on all of that.
- 1:16:47Other things historical, as I mentioned before, the Lemans
- 1:16:50Museum is right there on campus.
- 1:16:52It's at the main gate of the track.
- 1:16:55If you get the opportunity to go and a few people that I had spoken to before
- 1:16:59going recommended that I check it out if I had missed it, that would have
- 1:17:03been my phone though, Brad, because as you probably saw from the pictures,
- 1:17:06which we have links to the whole vault of pictures, unbelievable vehicles.
- 1:17:11In the museum, cars that you've only heard about rumored about
- 1:17:15that are legend are in this museum.
- 1:17:18Not all of them are there.
- 1:17:19Some of the Le Mans winners are at Simeone as an example, like the 57G, the 917
- 1:17:27hippie car, you know, things like that.
- 1:17:28So not all of them there.
- 1:17:29So there were as many as they could muster up for the hundredth
- 1:17:32and other cars of significance.
- 1:17:34From the a hundred years of Lamont's so super cool.
- 1:17:36And then, like I said, they pulled them all out of the museum and took them out
- 1:17:39on track for some parade laps and whatnot, but just absolutely incredible to see
- 1:17:43those cars in person cars that, you know, I had only seen on television or, you
- 1:17:46know, dreamed about drooled over, so just absolutely awesome, totally worth it.
- 1:17:51And during race weekend entrance to the museum is free.
- 1:17:54So why not go?
- 1:17:56And a little bit of vintage motor sports, the VRG or vintage racers group is
- 1:18:01pushing really hard on social media to attract Miata drivers to their series.
- 1:18:06For those that don't remember the Miata celebrates its 33rd birthday
- 1:18:10this year and qualifies for the famed vintage racing series.
- 1:18:14I guess they're getting tired of seeing 16 year olds drive and stanced
- 1:18:18out NA Miata's all over the place.
- 1:18:20No, it's.
- 1:18:21Because there's probably not enough MG or triumph guys anymore.
- 1:18:25You know what I mean?
- 1:18:25So they got to open it up because that's part of their social media
- 1:18:29thing is they class the Miata's to be able to run with some of those
- 1:18:33older British roadsters and stuff.
- 1:18:34So I actually think that'd be some exciting racing to see that.
- 1:18:38So maybe we'll find ourselves at a VRG event later this year.
- 1:18:40Yeah.
- 1:18:41Anybody that's seen a spec Miata race would know that that'd be pretty exciting.
- 1:18:44Although I don't know if I want, if I was a, an MG.
- 1:18:47Driver.
- 1:18:48I don't know that I'd want a bunch of wreck pinata cars out there
- 1:18:52with me on track at the same time.
- 1:18:54If you want to learn more about what you should be doing with your retired
- 1:18:58spec Miata, and if maybe you want to do something different than run SCCA with it,
- 1:19:02check out the vintage racers group at www.
- 1:19:05vrgonline.
- 1:19:07org.
- 1:19:08It's that time again.
- 1:19:10What time is that?
- 1:19:11We would be remiss.
- 1:19:12Wouldn't we?
- 1:19:13Because it's time to talk about Teslagate.
- 1:19:16I don't follow this kind of stuff.
- 1:19:18I don't even know.
- 1:19:19I had to look up what Threads was.
- 1:19:22The war with Elon continues.
- 1:19:24It's Zuck versus Musk in Twitter versus Threads.
- 1:19:27Did they ever fight yet?
- 1:19:28Not yet.
- 1:19:29Dude, I want to see it.
- 1:19:30It's on pay per view, I heard.
- 1:19:31Yeah, I'm not paying for that trash.
- 1:19:33Elon's mom said no.
- 1:19:34So Elon's mom said, no, that's true.
- 1:19:37It's true.
- 1:19:38I'm not making that up.
- 1:19:40I feel like it would be less celebrity death match and more pillow fight.
- 1:19:46No, it's like when we would make the paper footballs in school.
- 1:19:49That's like, no, I feel like it would be slap boxing.
- 1:19:52It would be.
- 1:19:52But Zuckerberg is actually technically legitimate, says people.
- 1:19:57He's paid to say that.
- 1:19:58Well, wait a minute.
- 1:19:59Are you trying to say that Elon is illegitimate?
- 1:20:01Like he's Jon Snow or something?
- 1:20:02No, she, she, she's saying that Zuckerberg actually trains in like
- 1:20:06jujitsu and mixed martial art and stuff like that, which I've seen
- 1:20:09pictures and stuff, I'm, I'm joking.
- 1:20:10I'm sure he's, he's good at it.
- 1:20:12He actually competes, I believe.
- 1:20:14So like, he's not like Elon.
- 1:20:16It's that picture of him on the yacht in flabby, pale, never seen the light
- 1:20:21of day skin, where he's just like that blob standing there on the yacht.
- 1:20:26Have you seen that meme where they redid his body as the Cybertruck?
- 1:20:31Is that what I'm getting for my a hundred bucks?
- 1:20:34Isn't there a meme where he's like Crank?
- 1:20:38Yeah, that's another good one.
- 1:20:39Oh, there's so many good ones, but in all seriousness.
- 1:20:43Talking to so many people, if Twitter isn't dead yet and just gets
- 1:20:47absorbed into the Tesla operating system, I would be surprised.
- 1:20:51Threads is here.
- 1:20:52If you haven't converted over, it's as easy as opening Instagram and clicking
- 1:20:56a button and it says import your profile and then you're on Threads.
- 1:21:00Threads looks like Twitter, sort of acts like Twitter.
- 1:21:03I think it's everything people wanted Instagram to continue to be, but
- 1:21:07it's not anymore because Instagram is sort of turning into TikTok.
- 1:21:10All this to say, guess what?
- 1:21:12We're on threads to at grand Torrey motorsports, follow us.
- 1:21:16Let's get more followers on threads than we have on Instagram.
- 1:21:19Let's make that our goal for the remainder of 2023.
- 1:21:22Shall we use?
- 1:21:23And our loyal listeners can help us get there.
- 1:21:25Mark Hewitt.
- 1:21:26Join us on threads and Patreon.
- 1:21:29I can't remember his Facebook password.
- 1:21:33There's a nifty little forgot password button.
- 1:21:36Goes to an email that he doesn't have access to either.
- 1:21:40Stop using AOL.
- 1:21:42He's got a, a hotmail account.
- 1:21:46Hey, those still work.
- 1:21:48No, I know my dad has one.
- 1:21:49My dad, Mark, my dad has one.
- 1:21:54He's almost 70.
- 1:21:58That's awesome.
- 1:21:59What are we talking about now?
- 1:22:00Tesla charger?
- 1:22:01Everyone is adopting a Tesla charger?
- 1:22:02Basically, that's, that's all the news.
- 1:22:04Is this like adopt a highway where you just, you tell them I
- 1:22:07want to adopt a Tesla charger.
- 1:22:09So wait a minute.
- 1:22:09I thought there was like the J 1792 protocol that everybody was using
- 1:22:15except for Tesla because Tesla is the equivalent of Apple, the
- 1:22:19lightning charger and all that.
- 1:22:21stuff.
- 1:22:21Now all of a sudden, we're going to go all Tesla chargers?
- 1:22:25So whatever their charging standard connector is, everyone's jumping on board
- 1:22:31to basically be able to connect to it.
- 1:22:33Oh, okay.
- 1:22:34So you're going to be able to buy something to plug into
- 1:22:36Tesla's charging station.
- 1:22:38Because they have the network now, the charging network.
- 1:22:41So how are we going to pay for that?
- 1:22:43Well, they say they're expected to adopt the Tesla plug.
- 1:22:46So I don't know if it's more.
- 1:22:48The plug will be the same or if it's an adapter.
- 1:22:50Well, what about all the other EVs?
- 1:22:52It's got like two different gas pumps.
- 1:22:53I guess it's diesel and gasoline, right?
- 1:22:55Here we go again.
- 1:22:56I would think they would probably start retrofitting or start using the plug now,
- 1:23:01but for the older EVs, probably create an adapter that allows you to use both.
- 1:23:05I mean, because also like ChargePoint is going to now have this Tesla
- 1:23:09NAX plug, but they say they also have the other types of chargers.
- 1:23:12So to that end, it's like having...
- 1:23:14The two different style pumps.
- 1:23:16I just realized what this is.
- 1:23:17You guys watch black mirror?
- 1:23:19No, I haven't seen past the first like four or five episodes.
- 1:23:22Okay.
- 1:23:22In the first four or five episodes of season one, do you remember the
- 1:23:25episode with the meow meow beans?
- 1:23:27That's a reference to community by the way, where they're like rating
- 1:23:30other people and it's like five stars.
- 1:23:32You got to keep your five star rating.
- 1:23:33It's all like social media and all this stuff.
- 1:23:35There's a scene in there and she drives up and because her rating is so low,
- 1:23:39she ends up with the piece of crap Evie that there's only one charger
- 1:23:43on like This random lot that she can only go there with that car to like,
- 1:23:48and get another one or whatever it is, that's, what's going to happen there.
- 1:23:51It's going to be like that episode of black mirror.
- 1:23:53This sounds like the guy in Canada who bought the slow
- 1:23:55charging or whatever it was.
- 1:23:58Yeah.
- 1:23:59My expectations are once again, lowered.
- 1:24:06Lowered expectations.
- 1:24:06There's all sorts of new car related shows on television.
- 1:24:09We've listed a number under lowered expectations and no one's watched any of
- 1:24:13them, so we don't know that they're bad.
- 1:24:16I actually spent the time and I watched today the first episode of Tex Mex.
- 1:24:20And the first episode of Downey's Dream Machines.
- 1:24:22I didn't have that kind of time in my day.
- 1:24:24Ditto, ditto.
- 1:24:25We, we don't have to go into an office.
- 1:24:27I did.
- 1:24:28You can put it up in the background.
- 1:24:29What's up?
- 1:24:30I get my office life.
- 1:24:31I live vicariously through Tanya and everything she posts in
- 1:24:34our private water coolers chat.
- 1:24:36Because she posts some wild shit in there.
- 1:24:39I will tell you.
- 1:24:40Shut
- 1:24:44up my shirt.
- 1:24:45I got some mustard on my shirt and I've changed it.
- 1:24:47In the middle of the room, but there's a conference going on.
- 1:24:50Doesn't matter.
- 1:24:52See the hotdog and got busted.
- 1:24:54Shirt?
- 1:24:55You can't see me because I can't see you.
- 1:24:58My back is to you, . I just got pulled on my new Izod.
- 1:25:04Oh.
- 1:25:05So, anyway, Netflix, Tex Mex Motors, this show is exactly
- 1:25:11the same as all the other shows.
- 1:25:13It is 100 percent a rip off of Car Masters.
- 1:25:17Which is 100 percent a rip off of Fast and Loud, and...
- 1:25:21But it's to the point where the cast is almost the same.
- 1:25:24They almost look the same.
- 1:25:25They rearranged them a little bit.
- 1:25:27I only saw the trailer for it and I had kind of watched it in the episodes, but
- 1:25:31I was getting strong car master vibe.
- 1:25:33They even use the same animations.
- 1:25:35Like when they're building the car, you know how they do those sketches
- 1:25:38and the parts like fly in and it's all goofy, cartoony, the same,
- 1:25:42like the music's the same, they have guys named Scooter and Rabbit.
- 1:25:46Like it's like, whatever.
- 1:25:48And it's a 250, 000 payday, right?
- 1:25:50It's the same basic principle.
- 1:25:52And I'm wondering if it's because Car Masters got canned.
- 1:25:55Did it?
- 1:25:56I haven't seen it come back.
- 1:25:57It's been like a year.
- 1:25:58Car Masters is the one where they were bartering.
- 1:26:01Upgrade and trade.
- 1:26:02Yeah, the upgrade and trade.
- 1:26:03Rust to riches.
- 1:26:04You see they're all the same.
- 1:26:05Gotham Garage.
- 1:26:06The Gotham Garage.
- 1:26:06Correct.
- 1:26:07Car Masters.
- 1:26:08They're all the, yeah.
- 1:26:09Tex Mex Motors, their differentiator.
- 1:26:12Is that they are trying to exclusively go into Mexico and buy cars for dirt
- 1:26:18cheap, because apparently the people in Mexico don't know anything about cars.
- 1:26:22So they go down there, buy them for dirt cheap, and then bring them to the U.
- 1:26:25S.
- 1:26:26to try and flip them for big money.
- 1:26:28Surprise, surprise, in the first episode, they have a run in with
- 1:26:31the Mexican Federales because of the non numbers matching car that
- 1:26:36was numbers matching after all.
- 1:26:39That seems a little staged, too.
- 1:26:41A little.
- 1:26:42Just a little.
- 1:26:44And then the shady transporter who was gonna pick up the Mustang for free.
- 1:26:51Uh huh.
- 1:26:51And then stole the parts.
- 1:26:53And dropped off the car on blocks.
- 1:26:56I mean, Jesus Christ.
- 1:26:57If that stuff was not staged, how fucking dumb are you at Tex Mex Motors?
- 1:27:02Yeah.
- 1:27:02For all that shit like that to happen.
- 1:27:04And the lady that they tried to sell that Opel GT.
- 1:27:07Which, by the way, that was a cool car.
- 1:27:09I liked what they did with it, though.
- 1:27:10I like the paint job.
- 1:27:12I like the seats.
- 1:27:13You know what I said when they put up the paint job?
- 1:27:15I was like, I did it first because my GTI has the same paint scheme.
- 1:27:19It does.
- 1:27:20It does.
- 1:27:20You don't have the honeycomb, though.
- 1:27:22Looked awful, actually.
- 1:27:23They should have left that off the car.
- 1:27:24I liked it.
- 1:27:25I liked it.
- 1:27:26Anyway, and then the Baja bug that they turned into, surprise, surprise.
- 1:27:30A Baja bug.
- 1:27:31Whatever.
- 1:27:32The best part of that was when they wrecked that Polaris.
- 1:27:35Yeah, that was fun.
- 1:27:36That was good.
- 1:27:36Overall, I would probably watch the whole thing just to see how it all
- 1:27:40turns out, but it feels a little bit more contrived than Car Masters.
- 1:27:45And Tanya, this is where it really crosses the line.
- 1:27:48They have another female engine builder.
- 1:27:51However, comma, asterisk, parentheses.
- 1:27:53Her backstory seems a lot more legit than Constance's.
- 1:27:58She grew up, they show pictures of her working with her dad in the shop
- 1:28:01and whatever, and she seemed to know legitimately what she was doing and
- 1:28:05doing that Mazda swap on the Opel.
- 1:28:07You know, that was no small feat that Ecotech and the Beetle,
- 1:28:10that was pretty complicated.
- 1:28:11So I'm like.
- 1:28:12Okay.
- 1:28:13I mean, not this, my fingernails look like I'm in a Revlon commercial, but I
- 1:28:17work on motors, you know, kind of thing that's going on with the other show.
- 1:28:20So it's like, whatever.
- 1:28:21I mean, again, I'm not trying to discount anybody's experience,
- 1:28:24but it's the exact same formula.
- 1:28:27Yeah.
- 1:28:27It is this carbon copy.
- 1:28:29Exactly.
- 1:28:30Now, did you watch Downey's Dream Machines?
- 1:28:32I did not.
- 1:28:33I was too enamored by the stupidity of Tex Mex motors.
- 1:28:37I'll give you Downey's Dream Machines really quick.
- 1:28:39Basically, Robert Downey Jr.
- 1:28:41has more money now than he knows what to do with.
- 1:28:42He's paring down part of his collection and he's taken on...
- 1:28:46A conscience, I guess, because of the whole footprint coalition thing that he
- 1:28:50started about, you know, climate change and all this stuff, making greener world.
- 1:28:53And what he wants to do is basically turn part of his collection of muscle
- 1:28:57cars and exotics and whatever he has, and he wants to turn them into EVs.
- 1:29:00And you're like, okay, cool.
- 1:29:02The whole thing is sort of shot like kiss, kiss, bang, bang in those scenes
- 1:29:06where they're behind the camera and, you know, talking through the fourth wall.
- 1:29:09And Robert Downey is very.
- 1:29:11Non scripted and non sequitur throughout the whole thing and he's a little crazy,
- 1:29:15but that's what makes it entertaining.
- 1:29:17And it makes him charming as a person to where you're kind of like, well,
- 1:29:19what the hell is he going to say next?
- 1:29:21I mean, it starts out literally with him in a Blackhawk helicopter.
- 1:29:25Like, where the hell is it?
- 1:29:26Where's this going?
- 1:29:27And he literally turns to the camera and he's like, This is a
- 1:29:29show about cars, I assure you.
- 1:29:31We're gonna get there.
- 1:29:32And then it does like this, and we go backwards and like
- 1:29:35how we got to that point.
- 1:29:37You know, whatever.
- 1:29:37It has its cinematics with it, but the very first episode he takes a k10 pickup
- 1:29:42truck square body that was Beautiful.
- 1:29:45He called it the Thanos thumper.
- 1:29:47It's dark purple and all those kinds of supercharged LS making ungodly
- 1:29:52horsepower, all this noise and whatever.
- 1:29:54He's like, I want to turn it into an EV.
- 1:29:56So he partners with electric garage up in New Hampshire.
- 1:29:59They retrofit a Tesla into it.
- 1:30:01They maintain the all wheel drive, all this kind of stuff,
- 1:30:03blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:30:04And there's sort of a.
- 1:30:06gimmicky challenge at the end where they have to tow something
- 1:30:10with it, and they want to, you know, see how it all turns out.
- 1:30:12Is it going to blow up?
- 1:30:13Is it going to work?
- 1:30:14Etc.
- 1:30:14I'll leave it up to your guys imagination to check it out.
- 1:30:17I'm actually really curious to see where the rest of it goes.
- 1:30:20I've had a couple other people tell me that they've watched the whole thing.
- 1:30:23It's only about eight episodes, and they said it's fantastic, and...
- 1:30:26They're sort of like, yeah, that'd be really cool to retro and EV.
- 1:30:29And I know we've talked about this and some of the cars on his list,
- 1:30:32he's got like a C2 Stingray Corvette.
- 1:30:34He's got some other stuff on there where you're like, would I really swap that car?
- 1:30:38It's worth a mint as it is, you know, that kind of thing with what
- 1:30:41we talked about earlier with the H2E platforms coming out, you know, that
- 1:30:44combustible hydrogen, I wonder if.
- 1:30:46Robert Downey gets to the end of this journey of converting
- 1:30:49his collection to EVs.
- 1:30:50And he goes, well, how hard would it have been to convert them to hydrogen?
- 1:30:54Right.
- 1:30:54And leave them alone.
- 1:30:55I'm wondering if people are going to have that regret as the
- 1:30:58manufacturers may be moving in that direction here in the near future.
- 1:31:01Well, that's not going to make him millions of dollars with a TV show.
- 1:31:03No.
- 1:31:04Changing some, uh, injectors in a fuel tank?
- 1:31:07Not at all.
- 1:31:07How environmentally friendly is it flying around on a black hawk?
- 1:31:11Yeah, I know, but his truck is saving the world.
- 1:31:13One ev at a time.
- 1:31:16I'm not gonna get on that soapbox.
- 1:31:17On the complete other side of that.
- 1:31:19Rutledge Wood is back.
- 1:31:20Famous for being on Top Gear USA and doing One Lap of America
- 1:31:25in a modified Toyota Sienna.
- 1:31:26He's got a new reality show, which a couple of our members have watched.
- 1:31:30That's the Hot Wheels Build the Dream or whatever the heck it's called.
- 1:31:33It's a reality show, restomod, building life size Hot Wheel cars.
- 1:31:37Oddly enough, the show debuted before I went to Le Mans.
- 1:31:40And a couple of these cars were at Le Mans.
- 1:31:43I don't know if they were the ones from the TV show, but they had a booth and
- 1:31:45they had three or four cars out front and they are life size Hot Wheels.
- 1:31:49And I got to say, they're pretty cool.
- 1:31:51So that gave me at least a little bit of, I should probably watch this show.
- 1:31:55And then a couple of people have confirmed that it's everything you
- 1:31:58don't expect it to be, but it's a lot of fun because it's a creator show.
- 1:32:02It's reality television, but it's for car people.
- 1:32:04So.
- 1:32:05Unlike British Bake Off or the repair shop or what's that one with Amy Poehler
- 1:32:11that she's got, you know, making it.
- 1:32:12This is for us.
- 1:32:13This is for car people.
- 1:32:14So there you go, Hot Wheels.
- 1:32:15What's funny about Hot Wheels, he's building the Hot Wheels
- 1:32:18that I never want to buy.
- 1:32:19I want to buy the Hot Wheels that are like production cars.
- 1:32:22I don't buy the ones that look like fucking clown shoes and
- 1:32:25shit that don't actually exist.
- 1:32:27They already sell those, Brad.
- 1:32:28Those are called production cars.
- 1:32:29Yes.
- 1:32:30You know what?
- 1:32:31I can't afford production cars.
- 1:32:33I can afford 1.
- 1:32:3518 Hot Wheels.
- 1:32:36They've gotten expensive.
- 1:32:37I will buy all the 1.
- 1:32:3818 Porsche 911s I can find.
- 1:32:41There you go.
- 1:32:42Well, Tanya's got one that we should watch.
- 1:32:44I already came out last year, but I'm just reminding you of it.
- 1:32:47If you're now on a kick to watch all the reality car programs that are out
- 1:32:51there, you have to go back and watch on Netflix, Drive Hard the Maloof Way.
- 1:32:55I think I tried to watch this.
- 1:32:57I didn't get past the first episode, much like I didn't get
- 1:33:00past the first episode of FUBAR.
- 1:33:03And I still need to watch the Schwarzenegger documentary
- 1:33:05because it's all shmay.
- 1:33:06The Schwarzenegger documentary is good.
- 1:33:08If you're a fan of Schwarzenegger, you should watch his documentary because
- 1:33:12you get to see so much about his Mr.
- 1:33:14Universe days, all his training and all that, and all that happened,
- 1:33:17and how he actually came over here to this country, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:33:21So it's very interesting.
- 1:33:22He is one of my most favorite comedians.
- 1:33:25Ever.
- 1:33:25Did I try and watch Drive Hard the Maloof way?
- 1:33:28I don't...
- 1:33:29The one about the dude and then his daughters, and his
- 1:33:31daughters are stunt drivers.
- 1:33:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:33:34I couldn't get past the first episode.
- 1:33:36It was hard, a little bit, but...
- 1:33:39I'll stick to watching reruns of Deep Space Nine.
- 1:33:41Quark's Bar is where I belong.
- 1:33:43I started rewatching Seinfeld from the very beginning.
- 1:33:45Just wait till you get to the Parking Lot episode.
- 1:33:50Oh, yeah, I know that one.
- 1:33:51You know, I was watching that on whichever one it was on, and it was like
- 1:33:55in the middle of the pandemic, and I was like, I've never watched Seinfeld.
- 1:33:58Like, I'd seen an episode here or two back in the day, but like,
- 1:34:00I'm never a fan of it, right?
- 1:34:02So I was like, I'm gonna sit and I'm gonna watch Seinfeld, because what else
- 1:34:05is there to do when you can't do anything?
- 1:34:07How many episodes did you get through?
- 1:34:08Okay, so like, I was powering through, forcing myself through these things,
- 1:34:14because I am clearly not a Seinfeld...
- 1:34:17No, she's a Frasier fan.
- 1:34:19Yes, Frasier me all day long, but like, Seinfeld, like, this is so effing dry.
- 1:34:23Like, I don't, I don't know.
- 1:34:25Like, and the characters are all obnoxious.
- 1:34:27Most of them, I don't know.
- 1:34:28Anyway, so I'm like powering through this thing.
- 1:34:31And then suddenly it's like, this show is exiting in two days.
- 1:34:34I'm like, shit.
- 1:34:36And I'm like calculating.
- 1:34:37I'm like, I don't have enough time to like finish.
- 1:34:39So I don't know.
- 1:34:40I didn't watch.
- 1:34:41I fast forwarded basically to the final episode.
- 1:34:43And then I was like, what the F just happened?
- 1:34:46Oh, the Good Samaritan episode.
- 1:34:48Yeah.
- 1:34:48The final episode, what happened is exactly what happened
- 1:34:51throughout the entire show.
- 1:34:52Nothing.
- 1:34:53Absolutely fucking nothing happened.
- 1:34:55They are right back where they started.
- 1:34:57Pretty much.
- 1:34:57By the way, it's on Netflix right now.
- 1:34:59Yes, it is back on Netflix.
- 1:35:01I was like, oh, I could go catch up the season or whatever I miss.
- 1:35:04I'm like, no, I'm good.
- 1:35:06Do you watch Seinfeld for the jokes?
- 1:35:08But the jokes that other people know like the inside jokes not for the
- 1:35:11because it's really funny or anything.
- 1:35:13Yeah, sure Normally at this part of the episode we would be going
- 1:35:18down south to talk about alligators
- 1:35:36But I think we need to talk about stale baguettes and brie well I put
- 1:35:39this one in just for you, oh Did you so this guy did started this
- 1:35:44already like several years ago.
- 1:35:46He's a carpenter.
- 1:35:47He's a cabinet maker.
- 1:35:49Oh, and he built a two CV out of wood.
- 1:35:54No, is this like that other guy that and it runs Ferraris.
- 1:35:58It runs because he put the motor from another to CV in it.
- 1:36:03And he sold it for 224, 000.
- 1:36:07How slow is it?
- 1:36:08It's gotta way more than the real thing.
- 1:36:10It gets up to 50 miles an hour.
- 1:36:12Isn't that what the real one does?
- 1:36:14Off a cliff like those cars in Alaska that they've been throwing off the
- 1:36:18side of the mountain every year.
- 1:36:20No way it gets to 50.
- 1:36:21Allegedly.
- 1:36:22Honestly, this is how the original 2CV should have been built.
- 1:36:26It should have been wood.
- 1:36:27Well, it would have been biodegradable that way.
- 1:36:29The termites would have gotten to it.
- 1:36:30It would have been amazing.
- 1:36:32I don't know.
- 1:36:32It alleges capable of hitting 50.
- 1:36:35Now you can read into capable.
- 1:36:36Lies.
- 1:36:37Lies.
- 1:36:38But he's a very young looking 74 year old.
- 1:36:40I will give him that.
- 1:36:41Listen to this.
- 1:36:44He looks like Charles Manson.
- 1:36:45What are you talking about?
- 1:36:47He whittled it from one piece of wood.
- 1:36:49Yeah, he was in jail.
- 1:36:51You know, he whittled it out of.
- 1:36:52The main body is made from apple and pear fruit trees.
- 1:36:57The front and back are walnut.
- 1:36:59The base for the doors and trunk are cherry wood.
- 1:37:02Wow.
- 1:37:03That is an expensive vehicle.
- 1:37:05Does it run on moths?
- 1:37:06It took him 5, 000 hours and over five years to build.
- 1:37:11Who's going to do the math?
- 1:37:125, 000 hours divided by 250, 000?
- 1:37:15224, 000.
- 1:37:16224.
- 1:37:18What does that come out to?
- 1:37:1944 an hour.
- 1:37:2044 an hour.
- 1:37:23Well, 224, 000 divided by 5, 000.
- 1:37:26Yeah.
- 1:37:26That does not seem hardly worth it.
- 1:37:29I feel like that's not very profitable for the amount of time he put into it.
- 1:37:35He would have spent less time just restoring a 2CV.
- 1:37:38It was a labor of love, I guess, of passion.
- 1:37:41He was putting his carpentry skills to use.
- 1:37:44I'm not going to begin to try and understand.
- 1:37:45So the bigger question is, how many times did he piss in the corner of his garage?
- 1:37:49Probably many, cause...
- 1:37:51He used it to soften the wood.
- 1:37:56It's seasoned.
- 1:37:57Why does my car smell like piss?
- 1:37:59Because it's French.
- 1:38:01Apparently, this is a thing in France.
- 1:38:03And I was warned about this, that guys will just randomly
- 1:38:06pee while they're on the street.
- 1:38:08I didn't believe it until I saw it myself.
- 1:38:11And then you sort of like started to ignore it.
- 1:38:13You became desensitized to it.
- 1:38:15Except for this personal French man story that I have to share with you guys.
- 1:38:19I'm walking down the road with Ty.
- 1:38:21We're coming back.
- 1:38:22from David's campsite.
- 1:38:23So imagine we have a 45 minute walk ahead of us.
- 1:38:25We're going down, minding our own business, dimly
- 1:38:28lit sidewalks and whatever.
- 1:38:29And these two fine French gentlemen decide that they're going to hide
- 1:38:34themselves by standing next to the only light pole on the street, facing away
- 1:38:39from each other because they didn't want to see each other peeing, but facing
- 1:38:42the people that were walking on the sidewalk as they urinated in public.
- 1:38:47And it's like, Are you serious?
- 1:38:51I mean, I understand that there aren't very many port a johnies and stuff.
- 1:38:55They were lacking in a lot of things.
- 1:38:57Trash cans and other things around there, but I'm just like...
- 1:39:02This is unreal.
- 1:39:02And the worst part is there's the streetlight right there.
- 1:39:05They're obviously inebriated, but there was a fence, like, I don't know, 12 feet
- 1:39:11to the side of where they were standing.
- 1:39:13They could have gone to the fence, but nope, we're going to hide ourselves
- 1:39:16because nobody can see us if we stand.
- 1:39:19By the label.
- 1:39:20Wow.
- 1:39:20And then in the article here, or in the little snippet, it says public
- 1:39:23urination is a problem in most big cities.
- 1:39:26That's why I will never live in a big city.
- 1:39:28So I didn't actually post that as a Florida man type subject.
- 1:39:32It's actually like an investigative news reporting on why this
- 1:39:37is so prevalent in France.
- 1:39:39It's for real.
- 1:39:40So is she telling you and they show you everywhere where there's
- 1:39:43just urine running down a sidewalk and they're interviewing people.
- 1:39:47They're like so disgusting and they're talking about how they've been trying
- 1:39:51to like fix this situation that's been going on since like 18 something.
- 1:39:58I don't think it's gonna change.
- 1:40:00Nope.
- 1:40:00We do have a Florida man story though, don't we?
- 1:40:03Well, this is just a kind of a cute one.
- 1:40:05This Polk County man called Sheriff's office to report a crime because he
- 1:40:11goes out to his black Jeep Cherokee that's covered in all this white paint.
- 1:40:16Side of the door is covered in all this white paint.
- 1:40:18So Sheriff comes out to investigate.
- 1:40:20And it was bird poop.
- 1:40:25But I will say from the photo that the bird must have like downward
- 1:40:29dogged at the side of the car because the spray is quite extensive.
- 1:40:37Was it a pterodactyl?
- 1:40:40I don't know, in Florida, maybe it was like some sort of heron.
- 1:40:43I don't know.
- 1:40:43Albatross.
- 1:40:44I mean, that is a lot of bird poop.
- 1:40:48Oh, there's a swarm of them and they all, maybe it was like a goose or a swan.
- 1:40:52No, goose, they had that little green poop.
- 1:40:55This one had diarrhea.
- 1:40:57It was an emu.
- 1:41:00And bird poop is terrible for your paint.
- 1:41:02Can you imagine?
- 1:41:03Then you have this big stain on the side of your car that won't come out.
- 1:41:07Uh, I'm gonna wash my car next time it rains.
- 1:41:10Obviously, wasn't there one minute, and then it was there the next for
- 1:41:13him to call the police, right, so.
- 1:41:16Jellicoe says, the culprit was Avion.
- 1:41:18I've been vandalized!
- 1:41:20By an eagle!
- 1:41:22She enticed me.
- 1:41:24Uh, the substance was what birds tend to do.
- 1:41:27Or do.
- 1:41:28Ah!
- 1:41:29Ah!
- 1:41:29Ah!
- 1:41:29Get it?
- 1:41:29That's a bad dad joke.
- 1:41:32But you know what?
- 1:41:33We've had Canadians in our Florida Man stories before.
- 1:41:36We don't have any this time, and that's fine.
- 1:41:38I looked.
- 1:41:38I tried.
- 1:41:39I couldn't find.
- 1:41:40I tried to find better content, but actually, it was very disturbing,
- 1:41:44the content that was coming up.
- 1:41:45There was a lot of road rage going on and other very negative things, so there
- 1:41:50wasn't anything good, unfortunately.
- 1:41:52But you know what we've never seen in a Florida Man segment?
- 1:41:55We never see Danish man.
- 1:41:58It doesn't happen.
- 1:41:58Denmark.
- 1:41:59Because I think the search would have to be Danish man bicycling or something.
- 1:42:04So many bicycles.
- 1:42:05So many bicycles.
- 1:42:06Unbelievable amount.
- 1:42:07More than Holland, I think.
- 1:42:08Whoo!
- 1:42:09Well, with that, it's time we go behind the good wall and since we talked
- 1:42:15a lot about Le Mans, what about the Canadian Grand Prix, which finished
- 1:42:20right before we went to Montreal?
- 1:42:22What's happening in Formula One land?
- 1:42:25Max Verstappen is winning.
- 1:42:27You know, it's getting so old.
- 1:42:29Like, now he's started this thing, like, I feel like after every race,
- 1:42:33when they post interview him, Cool Tard down there interviewing him.
- 1:42:37And it's like, this was a really tough race, it was like the
- 1:42:40last race that they just did.
- 1:42:41Where you won by like, how many seconds?
- 1:42:44Silverstone, and it was just like, this was a really tough one for us, you know,
- 1:42:47it was really hard, we're gonna have to go back and, and understand what happened.
- 1:42:51I'm like, you jackass, you didn't lead for five laps, wow, that was really tough.
- 1:42:57What happened is you Fucked up the start.
- 1:42:59That's what exactly you slipped on the start and he got ahead of you.
- 1:43:03And then it took you five laps until DRS opened or whatever.
- 1:43:06And then you got around him and then you weren't 45 seconds ahead of everybody.
- 1:43:10Whoa, is you get out of here?
- 1:43:14I think the big news.
- 1:43:16And Formula One right now is Honey Badger's back!
- 1:43:22Oh no!
- 1:43:23Honey Badger's back!
- 1:43:25The smile, the smilest man on the grid is back in a Formula One car.
- 1:43:30You're heartthrob, Danny Rick.
- 1:43:32Oh, my man crush, Danny Rick.
- 1:43:34It's hard to decide between Danny Rick and Toto Wolf.
- 1:43:40That's a hard decision to make.
- 1:43:42It's a stale baguette decision, but yes, Danny Rick is back in AlphaTauri
- 1:43:47cause they got rid of Nick DeVries, DeVry, DeSmallFry, DeNotDrivingF1 again.
- 1:43:56Denied, Nick, Nick Denied is what it is.
- 1:43:58Nick Denied.
- 1:44:00Which is like, I don't know, I guess, sure.
- 1:44:02But at the same time, it's like been like two races, but okay.
- 1:44:06Can I just say that I was seriously thinking it was going to be.
- 1:44:11Sergio and not Nick DeVry.
- 1:44:14I thought Danny was going to take Sergio's seat.
- 1:44:16Especially the way he's been performing the last couple
- 1:44:18weeks, or the last couple races.
- 1:44:19There's still time, right?
- 1:44:20Because isn't his contract up for renewal still?
- 1:44:23Like, he's not locked in for future years, I don't think.
- 1:44:27I know.
- 1:44:27Or did they finally do that?
- 1:44:29Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a way to try and kind of
- 1:44:32snap Sergio out of his funk, too.
- 1:44:35You know, sitting there with a former race winning driver waiting to take your seat
- 1:44:42has got to put a lot of pressure on you.
- 1:44:44Like, now that Dan Enrich has a seat, I would think it would free up Sergio to
- 1:44:48kind of, to take some pressure off of him.
- 1:44:50I mean, he's still got to go out there and perform.
- 1:44:52But it's like having, you know, a starting quarterback or a starting
- 1:44:56pitcher or something, and you've got an all star starting pitcher
- 1:44:59sitting on the bench behind you.
- 1:45:00It puts a lot of undue pressure on you.
- 1:45:02I think Sergio comes out and starts driving better for his sake, I hope,
- 1:45:06but I'm happy to see Danny Rick back.
- 1:45:08I'm happy for you.
- 1:45:10Unlike Formula One, there's a bunch of WRC news that we're
- 1:45:12not going to cover this month.
- 1:45:14I'm going to talk about it next time.
- 1:45:15And there's some drama with Terry Neuville, so I'm
- 1:45:18gonna leave you in suspense.
- 1:45:19I don't think anybody cares.
- 1:45:21Oh, but Tanya has some NASCAR news.
- 1:45:25Well, I didn't watch it, but the street race in Chicago did happen.
- 1:45:29NASCARs do street races now?
- 1:45:30Yes.
- 1:45:31Is it like RC cars that just put a body on top of the Indy car and we're
- 1:45:35gonna make pretend it's a NASCAR?
- 1:45:36No, it's like the garage 56 car.
- 1:45:38Well, then maybe it's possible.
- 1:45:40I, I, you know, we got to stop poking fun.
- 1:45:42These NASCARs have come a long way since the days of the Conestoga wagon
- 1:45:46suspension that they were based on.
- 1:45:47It was over the 4th of July weekends.
- 1:45:50Nobody watched it.
- 1:45:51Was.
- 1:45:52Did not happen.
- 1:45:52So, but however it did happen and I don't know any of the people in nascar.
- 1:45:57So the person who won means nothing to me.
- 1:45:59But I believe it was like, this guy's a New Zealander who won Shane Van Bergen.
- 1:46:04That does not sound like a NASCAR name.
- 1:46:06Wow.
- 1:46:06He was brought in just for the street race.
- 1:46:08I was gonna say . Anybody who, a non-American sounding
- 1:46:12name for the street race.
- 1:46:13Right?
- 1:46:14Yeah.
- 1:46:14We'll get some guys from touring car.
- 1:46:16Come over here.
- 1:46:17We're going to try to keep it light, but I want to remind people that our
- 1:46:20Motorsports News is brought to us in partnership with the International Motor
