- 0:00Speaker 1: The Hodaki Big Show. Thanks to Craveworthy Street Food. Freshly
- 0:05Speaker 1: made with Reburger.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Welcome to the Hodaki Big Show.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Oh, g'day, you mad bastards. Great to have your company
- 0:20Speaker 2: on this glorious Monday afternoon. It is the 19th of October, 2026.
- 0:25Speaker 2: And you, my friends, as always, listening to The Big Show,
- 0:29Speaker 2: brought to you by Reburger.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Crave-worthy street food, freshly made with Reburger.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Mogey, mogey, mogey. God, you're looking good. Nice. What colour
- 0:47Speaker 2: would you call that? Like a grey, very tight T-shirt?
- 0:50Speaker 2: No idea. Stretched against your heavily muscled torso.
- 0:55Speaker 3: How's life, you stallion? Going pretty grousy, you mad dog,
- 0:59Speaker 3: you sick son of a bee. First of all, let
- 1:01Speaker 3: me say welcome home.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Thanks, mate.
- 1:04Speaker 3: We'll be getting into a little bit of chat about
- 1:06Speaker 3: what you've been up to over the last couple of weeks,
- 1:07Speaker 3: but yeah, you've missed some beautiful weather here in Auckland, Jason,
- 1:11Speaker 3: right across the country, in fact. Doesn't it cheer you up,
- 1:14Speaker 3: I believe, that spring has sprung.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Oh, wow. Yeah, nice.
- 1:18Speaker 3: It's official. While you've been away, fellas, spring has sprung.
- 1:22Speaker 3: So good stuff. How are you going, Keezy, you mad
- 1:25Speaker 3: son of a bitch?
- 1:27Speaker 5: Eh?
- 1:28Speaker 4: Yeah, good, fellas.
- 1:29Speaker 3: You're off your head, man. What's wrong with you?
- 1:31Speaker 4: No, I'm all G. It's just I feel like it's
- 1:34Speaker 4: like Groundhog Day. I went away for two weeks and
- 1:35Speaker 4: come back, and.
- 1:36Speaker 2: The first thing we're talking about is spring has sprung.
- 1:40Speaker 4: It's good to be back, fellas. Good to be back
- 1:42Speaker 4: in the same room as you guys.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Well, the truth is, Keezy, you've come straight from the airport,
- 1:46Speaker 3: haven't you?
- 1:46Speaker 2: Pretty much.
- 1:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I did. I had a special bag packed in
- 1:51Speaker 4: my car ready to go so that I could come
- 1:53Speaker 4: into town, have a shower, straight on the radio.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Boom.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Boom.
- 1:56Speaker 2: What a backbone. Thank you. Fellas, you're going to have
- 1:59Speaker 2: to bear with me today. I'm still dealing with my
- 2:02Speaker 2: jet lag.
- 2:03Speaker 4: You were in Australia, though.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, two-hour time difference.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Oh, so you're two hours behind.
- 2:07Speaker 2: It's really screwed me around, I'll be honest with you.
- 2:10Speaker 4: Well, when did you land? Back in New Zealand.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Wednesday. Hey, Mogi, what's coming up on the show?
- 2:25Speaker 3: It's a great question, Jason. I wish there was some
- 2:27Speaker 3: kind of cool sting that went along with me telling
- 2:29Speaker 3: you what's on the show, but there isn't.
- 2:31Speaker 2: No, I don't know what's happened to it.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Guys, it's been deleted, all right? I'll tell you what. Look,
- 2:40Speaker 3: truth be told, this is what's happened. In preparation for
- 2:44Speaker 3: you getting back, Pugs has deleted a whole bunch of
- 2:46Speaker 3: stuff that otherwise you'd expect to be here. So we've
- 2:48Speaker 3: been doing the show without you for two weeks. There's
- 2:50Speaker 3: going to be a whole bunch of things that right
- 2:52Speaker 3: at the last minute you realise they're not going to work.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Right, okay.
- 2:54Speaker 3: That's going to stress Keezy right out.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And everyone's going to have a great time. At some
- 2:58Speaker 3: point today, we'll be talking about the fact that I've
- 3:00Speaker 3: managed to get myself a black eye over the weekend.
- 3:02Speaker 2: How did it happen? It looks quite hot, actually.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Yeah, it's pretty rough and tumble, I'll tell you that.
- 3:06Speaker 3: We'll be talking about Keezy's Japan adventure.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:10Speaker 3: You've been on a little adventure, haven't you, mate? And
- 3:12Speaker 3: even more importantly and bigger than that is Jase's Australian adventure.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Which we're going to get into next. A lot of
- 3:19Speaker 3: New Zealanders never make their way to Australia. No. They
- 3:22Speaker 3: don't even know what it feels like, what it is
- 3:24Speaker 3: to be over in Australia.
- 3:25Speaker 2: It's extraordinary.
- 3:26Speaker 3: But you go there probably three or four times a year, Jase.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Yeah, totes.
- 3:29Speaker 4: It was Japan.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Everyone goes to Japan, Keezy. It's, you know, par se,
- 3:35Speaker 2: my friend. Should we get into the tunes, fellas? Yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 2: I think so.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Tunes.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Bit of Everclear, maybe.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Yeah, sure, why not?
- 3:47Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Queens of the Stone Age here on the Radio Hauraki
- 3:54Speaker 2: Big Show. This glorious Monday afternoon. The time is 14
- 3:57Speaker 2: minutes past 4. And I tell you what, it's nice
- 3:59Speaker 2: to be back, Mogi. amongst all the backbones. Of course,
- 4:03Speaker 2: I went away for two weeks to beautiful Australia. I
- 4:06Speaker 2: don't know if you guys have ever heard of Australia. Yeah.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It's a bloody massive joint. There's a lot going on there. Now,
- 4:13Speaker 2: one of the things that surprised... Oh, that's nice, Keezy.
- 4:17Speaker 4: It's Australian music.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Yeah, it's Australian. One of the things that surprised me,
- 4:22Speaker 2: because I like my anonymity... They speak English over there.
- 4:24Speaker 2: They speak English over there. They've got cars... But not.
- 4:28Speaker 4: The same cars. They'd have like Aussie cars.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Yeah, different number plates. You pedal them. Houses? Well, they're
- 4:36Speaker 2: more sort of corrugated iron kind of shacks and stuff.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Heaps of bush. There's a lot of bush in Australia.
- 4:43Speaker 3: They pride themselves on their bush.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Yeah, totally, man. But seriously, I've got to say, I
- 4:49Speaker 2: know that we give our Australian brothers and sisters a
- 4:51Speaker 2: lot of chip. It's a great country. Yeah, yeah. And
- 4:54Speaker 2: so we did a roadie.
- 4:55Speaker 3: It's just the people that are awful. Oh, I don't
- 4:57Speaker 3: like the people at all.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Apart from the backbones that are the Kiwis. There's a
- 5:02Speaker 2: crap load of Kiwis over there. Crap load of them.
- 5:06Speaker 2: And a lot of backbones, as I said, that love
- 5:08Speaker 2: the show, which surprised me. Because, you know, I like
- 5:11Speaker 2: to be anonymous when I'm travelling. I like to go
- 5:13Speaker 2: incognito so that, you know, I don't get... But everywhere
- 5:17Speaker 2: I went, it was just, Hoide J, you mad bastard!
- 5:20Speaker 2: And I was like, oh, God, here we go again.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Here we go again. But my family and I decided
- 5:27Speaker 2: to do a roadie from Sydney all the way down
- 5:30Speaker 2: the coastline to Melbourne. Yeah. It's a her of a drive.
- 5:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:35Speaker 2: Are you keen to do that again? It is a
- 5:37Speaker 2: horror of a drive. It's about 1,300km, Keezy. Oh, God.
- 5:43Speaker 2: But we broke it up over four or five days,
- 5:45Speaker 2: so it wasn't too bad. You know, I've got to say,
- 5:49Speaker 2: a lot of beautiful little coastal towns, a lot of lobster,
- 5:52Speaker 2: a lot of oysters, a lot of prawns, a lot
- 5:54Speaker 2: of Moreton Bay bugs. It was good stuff.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Did you go to Moreton Bay?
- 5:59Speaker 2: No.
- 5:59Speaker 5: Um.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Also, you know, your usual hits and misses with the Airbnbs. Oh, yeah, good.
- 6:08Speaker 2: We had some good ones and we had some absolute shitters.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Who booked the shitters?
- 6:13Speaker 2: Me. I booked one right, and in the photos, it
- 6:18Speaker 2: was at a place called Golden Beach.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Oh, that sounds nice.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Right next to 90 Mile Beach. Oh, really? The way
- 6:24Speaker 2: that they photographed it, et cetera, et cetera, made it
- 6:29Speaker 2: look like and sound like the place was literally on
- 6:32Speaker 2: the beach. It was 100 metres down to the beach.
- 6:35Speaker 2: That was a lie. It was miles away. Then we
- 6:38Speaker 2: get to Gold, you know, we get to 90 Mile Beach.
- 6:40Speaker 2: You can't swim in that bastard.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Why not?
- 6:43Speaker 2: Gators. Gators, all sorts going on. It's wild as. Right.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Wild as. But apart from that, everything else was amazing.
- 6:52Speaker 2: We did have one off-road adventure. where we were driving
- 6:56Speaker 2: in Golden Beach, and my wife said, oh, apparently down
- 6:59Speaker 2: this little track here.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Can we get into this next? Because I want to
- 7:02Speaker 3: go deep on this. I want to go deep on this.
- 7:05Speaker 3: James is going to tell us all about a shocker
- 7:08Speaker 3: he had while he was away on holiday there. In
- 7:09Speaker 3: the meantime, 3483, text us a welcome back, Keezy, a
- 7:12Speaker 3: welcome back, Woody James.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Hey, nice to have you back there, fellas.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Oh, thanks, guys.
- 7:17Speaker 3: I knew there'd be a few great yarns to come
- 7:18Speaker 3: out of it, you shocking bastard.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yeah, totally, man.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Don't forget, every text on 3483 in the drawer for Reburger.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Wow. Audio slave there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show
- 7:37Speaker 2: this Monday afternoon. The time is 4.25. And we're talking
- 7:40Speaker 2: about my roadie in Australia, Sydney to Melbourne. What an
- 7:44Speaker 2: adventure it was for the whole family. And as I
- 7:47Speaker 2: said in the podcast outro today, which is bonus material
- 7:50Speaker 2: we do every day for our listeners out there, I
- 7:53Speaker 2: realise about an hour into the journey that we're taking
- 7:55Speaker 2: on a big task. Yeah. You know what I mean?
- 7:57Speaker 2: Because there's family. My wife and I got in a
- 8:01Speaker 2: hurr of a fight the first hour.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Can you tell me, talk us through it, who's in
- 8:05Speaker 3: the car?
- 8:06Speaker 4: Me?
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:07Speaker 4: You're driving?
- 8:08Speaker 2: No, my wife is driving. My wife and my youngest daughter.
- 8:13Speaker 4: So they're in the front and then you're in the
- 8:15Speaker 4: back in the booster seat.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm in the little booster seat in the back
- 8:18Speaker 2: there eating snacks. In the middle? Effing and jeffing because
- 8:23Speaker 2: we're going.
- 8:24Speaker 3: The wrong way. Now, why were you going the wrong way?
- 8:26Speaker 2: Well, because my maps weren't working properly at that stage.
- 8:30Speaker 2: So my wife had a go at me. I got
- 8:32Speaker 2: in a hurr of a mood. I didn't talk to
- 8:34Speaker 2: her for about four or five days. I was going
- 8:36Speaker 2: to say. I gave her the silent treatment. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Had she liked that?
- 8:39Speaker 2: Oh, she loved it, yeah. So then she'd be like,
- 8:42Speaker 2: so where are we going next? And I'd go, I
- 8:46Speaker 2: don't know. I don't know. But no, seriously, it was amazing.
- 8:51Speaker 2: We did have one adventure, which I did post a
- 8:53Speaker 2: video of on the old Insta there. I don't like
- 8:56Speaker 2: doing Instagram and stuff when I'm overseas. Or at all,
- 9:00Speaker 2: to be honest.
- 9:02Speaker 4: When I'm overseas or I'm in New Zealand.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Wherever I am. But it was a classic scenario. We
- 9:07Speaker 2: had all my girls in the car, all three of them.
- 9:11Speaker 2: And we were driving down by Golden Beach and there
- 9:13Speaker 2: was this.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Haven't you got four?
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah, but my fourth wasn't there. Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah,
- 9:18Speaker 2: my eldest. And we were driving past what looked like
- 9:22Speaker 2: a little sandy dirt track.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Oh, nice.
- 9:25Speaker 2: A sandy dirt track that went downhill.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Did you decide to go on a tiki tour?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Well, my wife pulled over to it and she was like,
- 9:33Speaker 2: apparently there's a lake at the bottom of this. and
- 9:37Speaker 2: i was like no i don't think there is a
- 9:40Speaker 2: lake at the bottom of this.
- 9:41Speaker 4: Just for the audience as well you weren't driving like
- 9:43Speaker 4: a four by four.
- 9:45Speaker 2: No it wasn't a four-wheel drive.
- 9:47Speaker 4: It was like one of those modern sort of sporty
- 9:49Speaker 4: suvs that looks like it could maybe be four-wheel drive but.
- 9:52Speaker 2: It isn't but it isn't at all anyway so it
- 9:54Speaker 2: was a steep hur of a little track covered in
- 9:57Speaker 2: sand and ruts and so forth and this is exactly
- 10:01Speaker 2: how the conversation went. My wife said, I think we
- 10:05Speaker 2: should go down there and check it out. And I said,
- 10:08Speaker 2: I think that's a very bad idea. Yeah. And she said,
- 10:12Speaker 2: what do you mean? And I said, look at the
- 10:15Speaker 2: massive ruts down this track. It's barely going to fit
- 10:18Speaker 2: the car. And what did she say? And it's sandy.
- 10:20Speaker 2: And she was like, no, it'll be fine.
- 10:23Speaker 4: And then what did you say?
- 10:23Speaker 2: And then my daughters in the back were like, oh,
- 10:26Speaker 2: come on, Dad, where's your sense of adventure? And I said,
- 10:30Speaker 2: and I quote, OK, but I'm telling you this is
- 10:33Speaker 2: a bad idea. So we got about 30 seconds down
- 10:37Speaker 2: this little track there, bogged deep in the sand. Like
- 10:41Speaker 2: sand halfway up the wheels. And I was like, and
- 10:44Speaker 2: I really wanted to F and Jeff, but I didn't.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Didn't you?
- 10:48Speaker 2: I kept my calm and my cool.
- 10:50Speaker 3: What's the point of being right if you're not going
- 10:52Speaker 3: to F and Jeff?
- 10:52Speaker 2: Yeah, well, exactly. I mean, I rubbed it in later on.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Don't worry about that. And we were surrounded by like
- 10:57Speaker 2: just rough shrubbery. It was just all gauzy, hideous stuff.
- 11:02Speaker 2: And we were going through looking for bits of log
- 11:04Speaker 2: and stick to stick under the wheels there. Because I
- 11:07Speaker 2: was very calm under the circumstances. And then I was thinking,
- 11:10Speaker 2: you know what's going to happen. I'll be wandering around
- 11:13Speaker 2: in the shrub and get bitten by a snake. Or
- 11:17Speaker 2: I'm going to get bitten by a spider. Hey, but
- 11:20Speaker 2: to our eternal credit, we got through it, fellas. Oh, wow.
- 11:23Speaker 2: We got out of there. No harm was done because
- 11:27Speaker 2: I'm telling you, we were about probably 15 miles away
- 11:31Speaker 2: from anyone in the vicinity. So it would have been
- 11:34Speaker 2: an absolute mare if we hadn't have got out of there.
- 11:37Speaker 4: How was the lake?
- 11:38Speaker 2: There was no Lake Kesey. Green day there on the
- 11:47Speaker 2: Hauraki Big Show this Monday afternoon. The time is 4.38. Now,
- 11:50Speaker 2: I've got to be honest with you, fellas. I had
- 11:53Speaker 2: absolutely no idea that the Rugby League World Cup was
- 11:56Speaker 2: going on.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Wow.
- 11:58Speaker 2: No idea whatsoever, but then I caught the Australian-New Zealand game,
- 12:02Speaker 2: and what an absolute doozy. And because it's the Rugby
- 12:05Speaker 2: League World Cup, well, we have to get our old
- 12:07Speaker 2: mate Charlie Gubb back on the line. Charlie, we've missed you,
- 12:11Speaker 2: you mad bastard. How's life?
- 12:13Speaker 5: Man, life's been good, a bit different. Back on the pipe,
- 12:17Speaker 5: but it's just one of those things that kind of
- 12:19Speaker 5: catch you off guard, right?
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah, totally, man. I got you.
- 12:22Speaker 4: Good to hear that, Charlie.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Time flies when you've been on the pipe, brother. I'll
- 12:25Speaker 3: tell you that much for free. How was the game
- 12:28Speaker 3: for you, mate? Australia versus New Zealand in the opener
- 12:30Speaker 3: on Thursday night there at a nice family-friendly time of
- 12:34Speaker 3: 10pm just to ensure that no child on either side
- 12:36Speaker 3: of the Tasman could sit down with their parents and
- 12:38Speaker 3: watch it. You've got to love them getting in behind
- 12:41Speaker 3: the Rugby League World Cup. It was a doozy of
- 12:44Speaker 3: a bloody game there. Had it all except a victory
- 12:47Speaker 3: for New Zealand despite the fact that we seemed to
- 12:48Speaker 3: dominate them in every single piece of territory.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Of stats, I should say. Yeah, that's right.
- 12:53Speaker 5: It was... I mean, there's all promising signs. I think
- 12:56Speaker 5: we definitely have Aussie's number, but it kind of reminded
- 12:59Speaker 5: me of one of those games that we had with
- 13:02Speaker 5: the Warriors this season where the Fords just completely dominate,
- 13:05Speaker 5: but then we're just off a bit in the back,
- 13:07Speaker 5: so we just didn't ice it, you know? Aussie scored
- 13:11Speaker 5: two brutal tries against a run of play. They were good,
- 13:14Speaker 5: but we were a lot better than them, so I
- 13:17Speaker 5: know it was... We lost, I'm like, OK, we'll get
- 13:19Speaker 5: them in the final.
- 13:20Speaker 3: It sort of feels like that, right? It's one of
- 13:23Speaker 3: those things where there's a couple of strokes of luck
- 13:26Speaker 3: that go their way. It's classic Australia. Very, very difficult
- 13:29Speaker 3: team to beat. And all you have to do is
- 13:33Speaker 3: give them a little bit of a sniff and they've
- 13:34Speaker 3: got you two intercepts, I think, both of them in
- 13:37Speaker 3: the first half.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I was fuming, Gubby, fuming. Yeah, we all were, brother.
- 13:42Speaker 2: We're all fuming. But.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Yeah, it's just one of those things, right? We caked it.
- 13:48Speaker 5: I mean, it's not a foregone conclusion that we're going
- 13:50Speaker 5: to be in the final, but it kind of is. Yeah,
- 13:55Speaker 5: I reckon all we have to do is our halves
- 13:59Speaker 5: just have to be a bit more polished. You know,
- 14:02Speaker 5: Jerome Hughes was a bit rusty.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I agree.
- 14:04Speaker 5: Obviously, but kicking that ball dead and a few passes
- 14:07Speaker 5: that went to nobody. Jermaine Azarco getting jumped over, giving
- 14:11Speaker 5: Bostock the debut of the century, but Other than that, alpacas, man,
- 14:16Speaker 5: they're dynamite.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Yeah, the pack was unbelievable. Caelan Ponga had a blinder
- 14:19Speaker 3: until he went and broke his arm. It was good
- 14:24Speaker 3: because there was a good battle between him and Reece Walsh,
- 14:26Speaker 3: who I continue to hate with every ounce of my being.
- 14:29Speaker 3: He tackled out, you wouldn't have seen this, Keezy, but
- 14:32Speaker 3: he tackled Caelan Ponga out over the sideline and then
- 14:34Speaker 3: acted like he'd... Well, that he just saved the world
- 14:38Speaker 3: or something. He was pounding his chest, and then he
- 14:39Speaker 3: got absolutely done by Ponga, stood up and made to
- 14:43Speaker 3: look an absolute idiot.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Excellent.
- 14:46Speaker 3: And then after that, of course, he scored a try
- 14:47Speaker 3: from about 60 metres out. So it was a great battle,
- 14:50Speaker 3: but it looks like that'll be Caelan Ponga done for
- 14:53Speaker 3: the rest of the series. But my God, he's an
- 14:54Speaker 3: unbelievable player.
- 14:56Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, and tough. You know, he played a lot
- 14:59Speaker 5: of that game with a broken arm, but like Hoide
- 15:02Speaker 5: back in the day playing with a torn banjo string.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Oh, that's right.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Hey, also another news on the rugby league front there, Gabby.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Tonga carry on their great form, beating the English. Was
- 15:15Speaker 2: that a surprise to you or not really?
- 15:19Speaker 5: To me, it was a 50-50 game. Like Tonga, they
- 15:22Speaker 5: got all the power, but sometimes they started rusty like
- 15:26Speaker 5: the Kiwis. So I'm happy they won because they're pretty
- 15:29Speaker 5: much guaranteed a semi now. It's going to be hard
- 15:34Speaker 5: for England to kick on, I think. Tonga and Samoa
- 15:37Speaker 5: bring a lot of hype and a lot of energy,
- 15:39Speaker 5: so it's good for them to be in the tournament
- 15:41Speaker 5: because it's not like a Rugby World Cup where anyone
- 15:44Speaker 5: can win, really. It's just down to, you know, it
- 15:47Speaker 5: used to be two teams, but I guess there's four now.
- 15:50Speaker 4: It's bloody exciting stuff, Gubby. Look, mate, I, Keezy here,
- 15:54Speaker 4: hope you're well.
- 15:54Speaker 2: I'm well, brother.
- 15:56Speaker 5: What's been happening?
- 15:57Speaker 4: I landed this morning from Japan, man, so I'm not
- 16:00Speaker 4: across the Rugby League World Cup at all yet. So
- 16:03Speaker 4: my question before I let you go is this. What
- 16:05Speaker 4: are you having for dinner tonight?
- 16:09Speaker 5: I'm having the slow-cooked beef necks and lamb necks and
- 16:13Speaker 5: the kids are having chicken tenders.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Now you're talking.
- 16:19Speaker 5: You've been away for a while. Your work wife will
- 16:22Speaker 5: be happy to see you.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:24Speaker 4: She's stoked. She's really stoked. We're going out for dinner tonight, actually, Gabby.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Good stuff.
- 16:32Speaker 4: Thanks for chatting to us again, mate. Enjoy the necks
- 16:34Speaker 4: of those animals tonight.
- 16:36Speaker 5: Yeah, cheers, fellas.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Have a good one.
- 16:38Speaker 5: Hopefully we'll talk again, talk some semifinal action.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Yeah, sounds good, mate. Good on you, Gabby. Yeah, good. Yeah,
- 16:45Speaker 2: good stuff, mate. Jeez.
- 16:48Speaker 4: Hey.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Arctic monkeys?
- 16:50Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 16:54Speaker 2: You too there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this
- 16:57Speaker 2: Monday afternoon. The time is 4.49. Fellows, let's talk TV.
- 17:03Speaker 2: What's on the telly with Mike Minogue. Yeah. Mike. That's right.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I forgot we were doing that while you guys were gone.
- 17:16Speaker 2: That's right. That's gone now.
- 17:18Speaker 3: Fellas, what did I watch over the weekend? Watching a
- 17:21Speaker 3: little bit more of Slow Horses that continues to be
- 17:23Speaker 3: on Apple TV. Jason, do you work out while you're
- 17:25Speaker 3: with your daughters there how to get onto Apple TV?
- 17:28Speaker 1: No.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Good stuff.
- 17:29Speaker 4: But you're still paying for it, eh?
- 17:30Speaker 3: Yes.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Cool.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Yeah, man, it's pretty cool. Pretty cool. It's a great show.
- 17:35Speaker 3: Gary Oldman is a spy. It's the sixth season of
- 17:38Speaker 3: the series, which has been out for quite some time.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Bloody beautiful it is. Yeah, treat yourselves. Four buzzies out
- 17:44Speaker 3: of a possible five. It has got a bit of
- 17:45Speaker 3: a stupid storyline in it, but it's still great.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Yes. Funnily enough, I've been watching quite a few videos
- 17:50Speaker 2: of Gary Oldman of late. He's around a bit, isn't he? Yeah,
- 17:53Speaker 2: he is around a bit. Interesting life that he's led. Fellas,
- 17:58Speaker 2: I watched the movie The Death of Robin Hood. Oh,
- 18:02Speaker 2: did you? On the plane? No, no, at home. Starring
- 18:06Speaker 2: Hugh Jackman, who I've got to say I'm a massive
- 18:08Speaker 2: fan of.
- 18:09Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:09Speaker 2: I think he's a great actor.
- 18:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:12Speaker 2: And it's the story of Robin Hood, obviously, in his
- 18:15Speaker 2: old age, kind of lamenting his life of violence. It's
- 18:20Speaker 2: a very, very grim, dark. kind of movie. I actually
- 18:31Speaker 2: kind of enjoyed it. It was quite beautiful in parts.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Beautifully shot. I believe it's been an absolute box office flop.
- 18:39Speaker 2: I'd say so.
- 18:39Speaker 3: I mean, the thing with Robin Hood is because you're
- 18:42Speaker 3: using that as sort of a A name that people recognise, right?
- 18:45Speaker 3: Get people into the theatre.
- 18:47Speaker 5: Yes.
- 18:47Speaker 3: And so you want a little bit of adventure and,
- 18:50Speaker 3: you know, romance and that sort of thing. That's what
- 18:52Speaker 3: Robin Hood's all about.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Yes.
- 18:53Speaker 3: So then if you go and do the old bait
- 18:54Speaker 3: and switch and it's going to be a miserable bastard, well,
- 18:57Speaker 3: no one's going to be too excited about it.
- 18:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. And a lot of the critics actually said
- 19:02Speaker 2: could do with a bit of levity in the quiver.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Which I don't disagree with. Is Friar Tuck in it? No.
- 19:11Speaker 2: What about Little John? Little John is. Friar Tuck isn't, sorry.
- 19:16Speaker 2: But it's really towards the end of his life where
- 19:18Speaker 2: he is regretting All the killing he's done. So it is.
- 19:24Speaker 2: I don't think your wife will like it, Keezy. Oh, no?
- 19:26Speaker 3: Okay.
- 19:27Speaker 2: But I'll give it 2.9 buzzies out of 5.
- 19:30Speaker 4: Wow.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Maybe I'll go 3.
- 19:32Speaker 5: Okay.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I'll go 3.
- 19:33Speaker 4: The Death of Robin Hood. A lot of people around
- 19:35Speaker 4: me on the plane watching that movie, Jase. Yes. I
- 19:38Speaker 4: noticed that when I was looking at the screens there.
- 19:39Speaker 4: I watched Brendan Fraser, one of his new movies.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Oh, yes.
- 19:44Speaker 4: It's called Rental Family.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 19:46Speaker 4: The reason I watched it is because it's set in Japan,
- 19:48Speaker 4: and he's sort of like a washed-up old actor who
- 19:51Speaker 4: moved to Japan because he got this lucrative deal being
- 19:53Speaker 4: the face of like a toothpaste company.
- 19:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:55Speaker 4: And he's stuck over there still. And these are real
- 19:59Speaker 4: companies they have set up where you can rent like
- 20:01Speaker 4: pretending to have a boyfriend for a few hours who
- 20:03Speaker 4: acts as your boyfriend. And it's not like an escort
- 20:06Speaker 4: service or anything. It's just genuine like you can rent
- 20:08Speaker 4: a granddad to come with you and, you know, or
- 20:11Speaker 4: you can rent a father or a husband if you
- 20:14Speaker 4: want to give you that feeling of of that person
- 20:17Speaker 4: who might have left your life. And he plays, obviously,
- 20:21Speaker 4: one of the guys filling in at this rental family thing.
- 20:24Speaker 4: And then one thing leads to another, very sad, then
- 20:26Speaker 4: very happy. It's just nice seeing Brendan Fraser acting again.
- 20:30Speaker 4: Because I loved him when I was a kid. George
- 20:32Speaker 4: of the Jungle is one of my favourite movies. Seriously,
- 20:35Speaker 4: when I was a little kid, when I first saw
- 20:37Speaker 4: that movie.
- 20:38Speaker 3: You mean it was one of your favourites when you
- 20:40Speaker 3: were a kid?
- 20:40Speaker 4: When I was like four.
- 20:42Speaker 2: I really enjoyed him. in a movie where he played
- 20:47Speaker 2: this very overweight... The whale. Oh, the whale, yes. I
- 20:51Speaker 2: thought he was very good in that.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Yeah, well, this Rental Family, it's just a light-hearted watch,
- 20:55Speaker 4: and it's based in Japan, and I was leaving Japan,
- 20:57Speaker 4: so I was like, oh, this will be fun.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, good watch.
- 21:00Speaker 4: I enjoyed it. I'm going to give it 3.7 buzzies
- 21:01Speaker 4: out of 5. 3.7 gyoza out of 5.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Gyoza.
- 21:11Speaker 1: The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 21:14Speaker 1: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Welcome back, you massive backbones. Hope your Monday afternoon's absolutely
- 21:20Speaker 2: going off. You're listening to The Big Show, incidentally, brought
- 21:23Speaker 2: to you by Reburger.
- 21:25Speaker 4: Handcrafted burgers, loaded fries and gourmet eats that'll change the game.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Scrumdiddlyumptious. Yeah, great stuff. You'll be missing the re-burger, Keezy,
- 21:34Speaker 2: being in Japan for your entire holidays. Yeah, yeah.
- 21:38Speaker 4: I spent most of the time trying to find a
- 21:39Speaker 4: re-burger over there.
- 21:41Speaker 2: No re-burger?
- 21:42Speaker 4: No re-burger in Japan yet.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Wow. Only a matter of time, I think.
- 21:46Speaker 4: They had this thing there.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Tofu.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Yes, they had tofu there. But it's sort of like
- 21:53Speaker 4: a burger except for it's got seaweed.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Seaweed?
- 21:58Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's sort of around the outside. And then
- 22:01Speaker 4: in the middle is rice. You know rice?
- 22:03Speaker 2: Rice?
- 22:04Speaker 4: Like the white sort of, the white stuff that you
- 22:07Speaker 4: get with like a sweet and sour pork.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Oh, and it's kind of grainy. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:11Speaker 3: It's like a grain.
- 22:11Speaker 4: It's like a grain.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Yeah, that's one.
- 22:13Speaker 4: And then it's like seaweed with rice and then like
- 22:16Speaker 4: fish in the middle there. You know, and I was like, what?
- 22:21Speaker 4: Where's my re-burger? And they were like, no, no, trust us.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Try this.
- 22:25Speaker 2: And did you?
- 22:26Speaker 4: Nah, I don't like fish.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Um.
- 22:29Speaker 4: But it was pretty good other than that, though, fellas.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Other than the food.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, I'll tell you what's going to
- 22:33Speaker 2: happen very shortly is Keezy's going to tell us all
- 22:36Speaker 2: about his trip to Japan.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Why are you.
- 22:41Speaker 2: His little trip to Japan. His little nudie run.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Ah, the onsen.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Oh, that's right. Yeah, old nudie Keezy.
- 22:49Speaker 4: That's right. There's a particular part of Japanese culture where
- 22:54Speaker 4: they go to an onsen, which is like a giant
- 22:57Speaker 4: sort of... room full of different hot tubs and there's
- 23:00Speaker 4: a cold plunge pool and saunas and things like that. However,
- 23:04Speaker 4: the way you sort of go about it is you
- 23:06Speaker 4: sit down on a stool fully nude and wash yourself
- 23:09Speaker 4: first and then you hop into these pools and everyone's
- 23:11Speaker 4: naked and it's dudes are split up from women.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Obviously.
- 23:15Speaker 4: And it's just a normal part of everyday Japanese life.
- 23:18Speaker 4: And one of my goals when I went on this
- 23:19Speaker 4: trip was to go and experience one and see what
- 23:22Speaker 4: it was like.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Just watch.
- 23:23Speaker 3: You could just buy a ticket and just watch.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. I didn't think because he sent me a
- 23:28Speaker 2: video of it, Mogi. And I was like, oh, I
- 23:31Speaker 2: don't know that I need this much information, Keezy. I'm
- 23:34Speaker 2: glad that you're doing it, but I don't need this video.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Well, I figured if I'm going to take the head-mounted GoPro,
- 23:39Speaker 4: I might as well send, you know what I mean?
- 23:40Speaker 2: Yeah, fair enough.
- 23:42Speaker 4: But yeah, we'll get into that next day, fellas.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Sounds good, man. Here's Linkin Park.
- 23:46Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 23:49Speaker 1: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Blink 182 there on the Hauraki Big Show this Monday afternoon.
- 23:55Speaker 2: The time, 10 minutes past 5 o'clock.
- 23:57Speaker 4: So, fellas, you've heard of a Japanese onsen?
- 24:00Speaker 3: Can you just explain it, Keezy? I mean, I'm sure
- 24:02Speaker 3: there's people out there that aren't as cultured as Hori Janus.
- 24:08Speaker 2: And old Maggie.
- 24:10Speaker 4: So what it is, is in Japan, it's pretty standard for.
- 24:15Speaker 3: Can you explain what Japan is?
- 24:18Speaker 4: Well, it's a little island off the coast of China.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Isn't it a series of islands?
- 24:25Speaker 2: I don't know. A number of islands.
- 24:26Speaker 4: There's quite a few islands there in the Pacific Ring
- 24:28Speaker 4: of Fire.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Anyway, these people live there and they're called the Japanese people.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 24:35Speaker 4: I'm part Japanese.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Oh.
- 24:37Speaker 4: My great-grandfather, Morinosuke.
- 24:40Speaker 2: So are you now officially Kizisan?
- 24:44Speaker 4: I'd be honoured to be Kizisan. But I don't want
- 24:47Speaker 4: to build my whole personality around going to Japan for
- 24:49Speaker 4: two weeks like old Pucksan over there. So basically, in Japan,
- 24:53Speaker 4: it is very normal for... I don't know how often
- 24:56Speaker 4: they do it. I don't think it's daily. It might
- 24:58Speaker 4: be once or twice a week. You go to your
- 24:59Speaker 4: local onsen, which is like a hot spring. Traditionally, it's
- 25:03Speaker 4: like natural hot spring from under the ground. because it
- 25:05Speaker 4: is in the Pacific.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire.
- 25:08Speaker 4: And it's very active, and there's a lot of hot
- 25:09Speaker 4: springs around Japan. And the way it works is you
- 25:13Speaker 4: go in, you get completely naked.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Take your clothes off.
- 25:16Speaker 4: Yes, that's how you traditionally get completely naked. You then
- 25:21Speaker 4: walk in with some soap and shampoo.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Do you bring your own soap and shampoo? I didn't
- 25:26Speaker 3: the first time. You bet your ass I did the
- 25:28Speaker 3: second time.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Right, okay. Back for more. He was loving it.
- 25:31Speaker 4: And you get a little stool.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Did you have it in one of those little plastic tubs? Yes.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Remember those?
- 25:36Speaker 5: Yes, I do.
- 25:36Speaker 3: When you went to school camp, et cetera.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Yes, exactly.
- 25:40Speaker 4: No, I didn't take a school camp soap basket. I
- 25:43Speaker 4: just took it. To be honest, I just grabbed it
- 25:45Speaker 4: out of the old Airbnb shower there. The shower gel
- 25:49Speaker 4: and the shampoo. Took that with me. You're fully naked.
- 25:52Speaker 4: You get down on a little stool, which is in
- 25:54Speaker 4: front of a tap with a little shower head. The
- 25:56Speaker 4: shower head's mounted probably a meter off the ground, so Jase,
- 25:59Speaker 4: it'd be perfect height for you.
- 26:01Speaker 2: So you... I'm just trying to picture this. So it's
- 26:03Speaker 2: about a metre off the ground. I wouldn't picture it
- 26:05Speaker 2: if I was you.
- 26:06Speaker 3: And you're squatting.
- 26:07Speaker 4: I'm sitting down on the stool and the stool is
- 26:09Speaker 4: about 20 centimetres high.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Oh, yes.
- 26:11Speaker 4: And so I'm sitting down on this tiny stool facing
- 26:14Speaker 4: the wall.
- 26:14Speaker 3: You're sitting on something that's about eight inches.
- 26:16Speaker 4: Sitting on about eight inches there.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Is your arse overhanging the stool? No, no, no. Are
- 26:21Speaker 2: you loving it?
- 26:21Speaker 4: No, I was loving it towards the end. And so
- 26:26Speaker 4: I'm facing... This tap in the shower head with a
- 26:30Speaker 4: small bucket of hot.
- 26:35Speaker 4: A small bucket of hot water, right? You have to
- 26:37Speaker 4: soap up your whole body because the idea is you
- 26:39Speaker 4: clean yourself off.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Because you're a dirty bastard.
- 26:41Speaker 4: Because you're a very dirty boy. And then you can
- 26:43Speaker 4: hop into the hot springs, fully nude. And there's so
- 26:46Speaker 4: many other nude dudes around, old fellas. There's a bunch
- 26:51Speaker 4: of old fellas hanging around there, really. Honestly, a lot
- 26:53Speaker 4: of old fellas. And Jase, let me just say, you
- 26:56Speaker 4: would have fit in very well.
- 26:59Speaker 4: In the bush department.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Ah.
- 27:02Speaker 4: You know what I mean.
- 27:03Speaker 2: After you cleansed yourself- And shampoo, yeah. And shampoo, before
- 27:06Speaker 2: you got in the.
- 27:07Speaker 4: Hot spring- The bucket of hot water, you tip it
- 27:09Speaker 4: over you.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Yes. Did you then strut your stuff when you.
- 27:12Speaker 4: Were walking to the hot spring?
- 27:13Speaker 2: At first, no, I wasn't. You know?
- 27:15Speaker 4: Because, you know, I'm a never nude.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Yes, that's right. You're ashamed of yourself.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Wow.
- 27:21Speaker 4: I just don't like being fully nude. Like, hey, look,
- 27:23Speaker 4: here I am. But- And you have a little modesty towel.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Which is like a hand towel.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Very little.
- 27:28Speaker 4: And you take that with you and you sort of
- 27:29Speaker 4: wander around with that and that's to cover yourself up.
- 27:31Speaker 4: Do you have to do that? No, because I quickly
- 27:33Speaker 4: learned that no one else does it. Everyone just literally
- 27:36Speaker 4: has it over their shoulder. And I think it's quite nice.
- 27:39Speaker 4: It's like, look, we're all dudes.
- 27:40Speaker 2: What over their shoulder?
- 27:42Speaker 4: Not their penis, Jase. The modesty towel.
- 27:47Speaker 3: Pay to see that.
- 27:49Speaker 4: And so I quickly learned that, you know, everyone's a male.
- 27:51Speaker 2: We're all.
- 27:52Speaker 4: We all look the same. We all look pretty terrible
- 27:53Speaker 4: down there, to be honest. So let's all just stroll
- 27:55Speaker 4: around and have a hot spring. It's not a big deal.
- 27:58Speaker 4: And there's like groups of like mates are catching up
- 28:01Speaker 4: there and sitting around the hot spring yarning. And you
- 28:03Speaker 4: know what I mean? Old boys are catching up and
- 28:04Speaker 4: having a laugh and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 28:06Speaker 3: I ended up having.
- 28:07Speaker 4: Five onsens in my time that I was there. Absolutely
- 28:12Speaker 4: loved it. Every single time sitting on the old eight
- 28:14Speaker 4: inch stool.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Sitting on the eight inch with a mess of grit
- 28:17Speaker 3: on your.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Face, man.
- 28:18Speaker 4: I was by the end of it.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Lathering myself up and how did they take your nips
- 28:24Speaker 2: what do you mean how did they take.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Them well they didn't no one took anything was it like.
- 28:30Speaker 2: What's that you know just what's going on there no
- 28:34Speaker 2: no no it was okay good yeah.
- 28:37Speaker 4: You know just sort of people looking at them and
- 28:39Speaker 4: just saying arigato and that sort of stuff but I
- 28:45Speaker 4: can be nude now quite confidently but only in front
- 28:48Speaker 4: of old men yeah Still scared of getting nude in
- 28:52Speaker 4: front of my wife.
- 28:54Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 28:56Speaker 4: But I highly recommend, fellas.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you went to five.
- 28:58Speaker 4: I went to five. I went to five of them.

- 33:39Speaker 4: power tool at all, would you?
- 33:41Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, I'd use a power tool.
- 33:43Speaker 3: You could use some go-go gadget legs so that you
- 33:45Speaker 3: could change the light bulbs.
- 33:47Speaker 2: Could do.
- 33:47Speaker 4: I don't know if those are real tools that you

- 34:32Speaker 2: do you need any tools that need upgrading?
- 34:35Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely need a few more tools.

- 34:59Speaker 4: We've got a four-piece combo kit here worth $ 1, 700, excluding GST.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Yes.
- 35:05Speaker 4: So that's a pricey bit of kit. It's got a drill,
- 35:07Speaker 4: an impact driver, a multi-tool, and a 165-millimeter circular saw.
- 35:13Speaker 4: It comes with a high-output battery, a rapid charger, and
- 35:16Speaker 4: a MackTrak rolling tool chest. That whole combo, mate. Is

- 35:35Speaker 4: Yeah, that's a circular saw.

- 35:50Speaker 2: How good, eh? $ 1, 700?
- 35:51Speaker 3: $ 1, 700? $ 1, 700?
- 35:51Speaker 2: Can you believe that? That's $ 1, 700?
- 35:54Speaker 4: $ 1, 700. That's crazy. That's so much money. I know, fellas.
- 35:59Speaker 4: And it's excluding GST as well, so it's actually.
- 36:02Speaker 3: Excluding GST?
- 36:03Speaker 4: I know, Mogey.
- 36:04Speaker 2: So it'll be like $ 2, 000. What?

- 40:24Speaker 2: The bucket.
- 40:25Speaker 1: The Hodaki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 40:29Speaker 2: System of a down there on the Radio Hodaki Big
- 40:32Speaker 2: Show this Monday evening.
- 40:34Speaker 4: Hey, fellas, I was talking earlier about my experience at
- 40:36Speaker 4: a Japanese onsen.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Yes.
- 40:39Speaker 4: Whilst on my holiday to Japan. I touched back down
- 40:42Speaker 4: in New Zealand at 10.30 this morning. But basically, you
- 40:46Speaker 4: go to a hot spring, you shower off first, and
- 40:48Speaker 4: you go into this area where it's just a whole
- 40:50Speaker 4: lot of naked old dudes, Japanese dudes, and you're just
- 40:53Speaker 4: in different hot springs and cold pools and saunas. But
- 40:55Speaker 4: the idea is you're just completely naked.
- 40:57Speaker 2: Yeah, good, good.
- 40:58Speaker 4: And it's a totally acceptable part of Japanese culture. So
- 41:01Speaker 4: I went.
- 41:02Speaker 3: Hells yeah.
- 41:04Speaker 4: I did this five times while I was over there.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Loved it.
- 41:07Speaker 4: Late at night, too. My wife would go to bed
- 41:08Speaker 4: kind of early, and I would say, all right, I'm
- 41:10Speaker 4: going to go jump on a bike outside. There's lots
- 41:12Speaker 4: of e-bike rental things around the joint, like with an app.
- 41:15Speaker 4: bike to my local onsen then bike home and then
- 41:18Speaker 4: one night I went to an onsen when I was
- 41:19Speaker 4: in Tokyo and I wanted to have a late night
- 41:22Speaker 4: solo ramen experience which is there's heaps of restaurants where
- 41:26Speaker 4: you just sit down in a little booth they just
- 41:27Speaker 4: serve you some ramen you don't talk to anyone you
- 41:30Speaker 4: just eat it quietly and then you leave or have
- 41:32Speaker 4: a beer or whatever and I was in line for
- 41:34Speaker 4: a very famous one called Ichiran and I was standing
- 41:37Speaker 4: behind these two dudes from America and they were I
- 41:41Speaker 4: would describe them as like if Ali G was from
- 41:43Speaker 4: America Oh, yeah. And being dead serious. So backwards hats,
- 41:47Speaker 4: shades on at 10.30 at night.
- 41:49Speaker 2: Yeah, so backbones.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Real backbones, real baggy shorts, like low riding, high top sneakers,
- 41:57Speaker 4: and talking to each other like they're gangsters.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 42:00Speaker 4: And one of them in particular was a real asshole.
- 42:02Speaker 4: But anyway, other than that guy, one fellow was relatively friendly.
- 42:06Speaker 4: He's just like, hey, man, you had this before, bro?
- 42:09Speaker 4: And I was like, nah, nah, I've heard all about it.
- 42:10Speaker 4: So I thought I'd try it. He's like, oh, bro,
- 42:12Speaker 4: it's so good. Had a bit of a chat with him.
- 42:14Speaker 2: It was funny.
- 42:14Speaker 4: And then, um, I was just like, oh yeah, have you, um,
- 42:18Speaker 4: cause I was trying to strike up Convo.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 42:20Speaker 4: I was like, have you had an onsen yet? And
- 42:22Speaker 4: he's like, an onsen? The hell's that? And I was like, well,
- 42:26Speaker 4: that's when you sort of, you, it's a part of
- 42:28Speaker 4: Japanese life. You go and you hop in a hot
- 42:30Speaker 4: spring with all these old naked dudes.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Oh, old naked dudes.
- 42:33Speaker 4: You're in a pool with old naked dudes. And I
- 42:36Speaker 4: was like, oh yeah.
- 42:37Speaker 3: And young naked dudes.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 42:39Speaker 4: Naked dudes of all ages. Um, And then he's like, oh,
- 42:43Speaker 4: whatever you're into, man. And I was like, oh, no,
- 42:46Speaker 4: it's just like it's a part of Jabba. Yeah, and
- 42:47Speaker 4: I was trying to explain. He's just like, oh, we're
- 42:49Speaker 4: going to a place similar to that. And I was like, well,
- 42:53Speaker 4: what is it? Is it like an onsen? He's like, yeah,
- 42:56Speaker 4: I can't remember the name of the place. He says, oh,
- 42:58Speaker 4: it's called this. And it sounded like an onsen. And
- 43:01Speaker 4: I was like, oh. I think I've heard of that
- 43:03Speaker 4: that's a similar thing where you get naked well you
- 43:05Speaker 4: certainly get naked but there are no old dudes there
- 43:08Speaker 4: man and basically I was trying to strike up a
- 43:11Speaker 4: yarn about going to an onsen with two guys who
- 43:14Speaker 4: were basically going out for some late night yeah Brothel action.
- 43:18Speaker 4: Brothel action.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:20Speaker 4: At a bathing house or something.
- 43:22Speaker 3: You found a couple of brothel creepers over there.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they were cracking.
- 43:25Speaker 4: Up because I was going hot tubbing with old dudes.
- 43:29Speaker 4: And I was cracking up and grossed out by them
- 43:32Speaker 4: going brothel creeping. But I had my ramen and we
- 43:36Speaker 4: parted ways. And they thought I was a creep and
- 43:38Speaker 4: I thought they were creeps. Yeah, there you go.
- 43:40Speaker 3: Yeah, both of you are right, I guess.
- 43:42Speaker 2: Yeah, well, what?
- 43:43Speaker 1: The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 43:46Speaker 1: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 43:49Speaker 2: Red hot. Chili peppers here on the Hodaki Big Show
- 43:53Speaker 2: this Monday evening. Hey, Keezy, I don't know if you
- 43:56Speaker 2: know this, but I've been in Australia for a couple
- 43:58Speaker 2: of weeks. Can you tell me about this VIP weekend
- 44:01Speaker 2: at Race of Champions? Jase.
- 44:04Speaker 4: That's a really good question, man.
- 44:06Speaker 2: You're going to love this, Josh.
- 44:07Speaker 4: Get a load of this, brother. For the first time
- 44:09Speaker 4: ever in New Zealand.
- 44:10Speaker 3: This has never happened before.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Wow. Race of Champions, or ROC as it's known. basically
- 44:15Speaker 4: what it does is they get together a lot of
- 44:17Speaker 4: the best racing drivers in the world, put them all
- 44:20Speaker 4: together in the same style of car.
- 44:22Speaker 3: This is the genius of it. Listen to this bit, Jase.
- 44:25Speaker 4: This bit here. Tickets are on sale now.
- 44:28Speaker 2: No, not that.
- 44:29Speaker 3: So the part how they put them all in the
- 44:31Speaker 3: same car, because this is a trouble oftentimes, right? Some
- 44:34Speaker 3: of the cars are shit ass.
- 44:36Speaker 4: Yes.
- 44:36Speaker 3: So how do you know who's the good driver or not?
- 44:38Speaker 3: And this is what it should be. It should be
- 44:39Speaker 3: stock cars, standy cars. that everyone has to get into
- 44:43Speaker 3: and deal with.
- 44:43Speaker 4: That's right. So, you know, we've got drivers from Formula One, Jase.
- 44:47Speaker 2: Yeah, okay. Oh, yeah.
- 44:49Speaker 3: Have you heard of Michael Schumacher?
- 44:50Speaker 2: Yes.
- 44:51Speaker 3: He was in Formula One.
- 44:52Speaker 4: Yeah, he's in a coma now. Supercars, Rally, NASCAR, Rallycross,
- 45:00Speaker 4: and more. I'm going to bail it out.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Old Scott going to come over.
- 45:03Speaker 4: Scotty McLaughlin. No, he's not involved. But you've got Valtteri Bottas.
- 45:08Speaker 2: No, I meant Scott Dixon.
- 45:09Speaker 4: Sebastian Vettel. No, he's not involved either.
- 45:11Speaker 3: Sebastian Vettel's good, man.
- 45:12Speaker 2: Yeah, he's real good.
- 45:13Speaker 4: He's a legend. David Coulthard.
- 45:15Speaker 3: He could drive a manual.
- 45:16Speaker 2: Can he?
- 45:18Speaker 4: Double clutch. Travis Pastrana.
- 45:20Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Travis Pastrana. He stole out in your motocross there, James.
- 45:23Speaker 4: He was one of the crusty demons, man.
- 45:25Speaker 3: He was a crusty bastard there and there. Then he
- 45:27Speaker 3: changed over to rally driving. Very, very good.
- 45:29Speaker 2: Very, very good. Well, you often find them interchangeable, don't you?
- 45:33Speaker 3: Oh, it's much of a muchness.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Skateboarding. That's right. Motorbikes. Driving a four.
- 45:37Speaker 5: BMX.
- 45:38Speaker 4: Rollerblading.
- 45:38Speaker 2: BMX. Rollerblading.
- 45:40Speaker 4: Chas Mostert.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Bathurst.
- 45:42Speaker 4: He's won Bathurst a couple of times.
- 45:44Speaker 2: No, he's a legend.
- 45:46Speaker 4: Yeah. Mad Mike Widdit.
- 45:48Speaker 2: Mad Mike Drifter.
- 45:49Speaker 3: The funny thing about Mad Mike, nothing mad about him.
- 45:53Speaker 2: Boring as.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Yeah. Mad Mike.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Yeah, Mad Mike.
- 45:55Speaker 3: He's pretty mad. It's an ironic sort of a nickname,
- 45:58Speaker 3: you know?
- 45:58Speaker 2: Yes.
- 45:58Speaker 3: God, this guy might be the most boring guy I've
- 46:00Speaker 3: ever met.
- 46:01Speaker 2: Mad Mike.
- 46:02Speaker 4: Yeah. He's a drifter. He's an international champion drifter.
- 46:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:05Speaker 4: Pioneer of the sport. I've been out to his, he's
- 46:07Speaker 4: got a cool hangar out at Hampton Downs racetrack there
- 46:09Speaker 4: filled with awesome cars.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Oh.
- 46:11Speaker 4: And he's just bloody mad. You go in there and
- 46:13Speaker 4: he's just like spinning around.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Different bloke.
- 46:17Speaker 4: Speaking in tongues and shit. He's crazy. But look, it's
- 46:21Speaker 4: happening for the first time ever in New Zealand. The
- 46:23Speaker 4: race of champions.
- 46:24Speaker 3: Jase, this has never happened in New Zealand.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Jase, get a load of this bit.
- 46:29Speaker 2: Keep it together, Keezy.
- 46:31Speaker 4: Sorry, I'm very jet lagged. The 9th and 10th of January, 2027.
- 46:35Speaker 4: You can see the world's best drivers go head-to-head in
- 46:38Speaker 4: identical cars where it's all about talent and skills. It's
- 46:40Speaker 4: happening at Henry Stadium down in Wellington. They're turning it
- 46:43Speaker 4: into a full-blown racetrack.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Wow.
- 46:45Speaker 4: That's cool. And we are giving away a prize that
- 46:49Speaker 4: includes flights from anywhere in New Zealand, accommodation, VIP pit passes,
- 46:53Speaker 4: and exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences for you and a mate, if
- 46:57Speaker 4: you are keen.
- 46:58Speaker 3: Wow.
- 46:58Speaker 4: Register now at hodaki.co.nz, and you guys could be heading
- 47:02Speaker 4: down there. Thanks to Radio Hodaki. Tickets are on sale now, though,
- 47:04Speaker 4: through Ticketek New Zealand. They are selling fast.
- 47:06Speaker 3: Was Travis one of your Krusty Demons, or was he
- 47:09Speaker 3: more of a Nitro Circus.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Son of a bitch?
- 47:11Speaker 4: So Travis was a kid when the Krusty Demons were
- 47:14Speaker 4: getting about, doing their thing, because they had all the DVDs.
- 47:17Speaker 4: He was just a young fella riding around on a
- 47:19Speaker 4: little 200cc bike doing tricks when he's like six years old.
- 47:22Speaker 2: Yeah, right.
- 47:23Speaker 4: And then he was a pioneer with Nitro Circus as well.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he's done very well, Jase. Yes, yes, sounds it.
- 47:29Speaker 4: Yeah. Sheehard. Sheehard.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Are they going to be there too? No.
- 47:33Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 47:37Speaker 1: in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Faith no more there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show
- 47:42Speaker 2: this Monday afternoon. Fellas, let's give out some advice, shall we?
- 47:46Speaker 2: Be pretty new. at gmail.com. Get in touch.
- 47:56Speaker 3: With the fellas.
- 47:57Speaker 2: With the fellas.
- 47:58Speaker 4: That's right. If you need advice on anything, you know,
- 48:02Speaker 4: keep it radio friendly. Not too filthy there. Get in touch.
- 48:05Speaker 4: Meet PaddyNips69 at gmail.com and you can win yourself a
- 48:09Speaker 4: $ 50 Reburger voucher.
- 48:11Speaker 2: I quite like the filth. I like giving advice about filth.
- 48:15Speaker 4: But, like, it can be, like, romance-based. But if you're... No,
- 48:18Speaker 4: I want it to be filth.
- 48:20Speaker 3: Romancing the.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Filth.
- 48:23Speaker 4: Romancing the filth. Okay, well, try this one off a size, then, fellas.
- 48:27Speaker 3: Get this one up, yeah.
- 48:28Speaker 4: G'day there, fellas.
- 48:29Speaker 3: Hello. Anonymous here.
- 48:32Speaker 4: I need advice on how to approach my local delivery
- 48:34Speaker 4: drivers without pissing them off.
- 48:38Speaker 2: I'm joking.
- 48:38Speaker 4: It's not filthy at all. When I order on an app,
- 48:41Speaker 4: the delivery driver puts my address in and for some
- 48:43Speaker 4: reason it sends them to a completely different street and
- 48:45Speaker 4: address number every time. When they call and ask where
- 48:48Speaker 4: I am, I say, you are on 12 Jizz Street, right?
- 48:51Speaker 4: And they say, yes. How do I tell them that
- 48:54Speaker 4: just because the GPS says it is my house, it
- 48:56Speaker 4: doesn't make it correct? Also, how do I teach them
- 48:59Speaker 4: to read street signs and house numbers with some sense
- 49:02Speaker 4: for critical thinking?
- 49:04Speaker 5: Cheers.
- 49:04Speaker 2: Don't get me started. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:10Speaker 3: You're Uber drivers.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Yes, just constantly going to the wrong place.
- 49:13Speaker 4: For food?
- 49:14Speaker 2: For food. It drives me batshit crazy.
- 49:17Speaker 3: They come to your house for food?
- 49:19Speaker 2: No, they come to drive me. food off. But they always,
- 49:22Speaker 2: for some reason, they end up in the park at
- 49:25Speaker 2: the top of the road. It's just a nightmare. I
- 49:27Speaker 2: don't know why.
- 49:29Speaker 3: Look, I've got my own issues with them, and that
- 49:31Speaker 3: is that they turn up, they put things on your doorstep,
- 49:33Speaker 3: and they don't knock on the door.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Really? They never. Oh, wow.
- 49:38Speaker 3: And you'll be sitting there, and you hear them, And
- 49:40Speaker 3: I'll shout out.
- 49:41Speaker 2: Knock on the door.
- 49:43Speaker 4: What?
- 49:44Speaker 3: And then I go out there and I'll say, how
- 49:46Speaker 3: come you guys don't knock on the door? And they'll say, oh,
- 49:48Speaker 3: but I knew you were home.
- 49:49Speaker 2: No, you didn't.
- 49:50Speaker 3: No, you didn't, asshole.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Is that what you're saying?
- 49:54Speaker 5: 100%.
- 49:54Speaker 3: I don't know why because the issue I have with
- 49:57Speaker 3: it is you get stuff stolen off your porch.
- 49:59Speaker 2: Yes.
- 49:59Speaker 3: And they deliver food. They put food on your porch
- 50:02Speaker 3: and then they don't knock on the door.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Well, it would make sense to knock on the door,
- 50:05Speaker 2: wouldn't it? It's unbelievable.
- 50:06Speaker 3: But I just don't think they want to get into
- 50:08Speaker 3: any kind of a chat.
- 50:08Speaker 2: I've delivered it. I'm out of here.
- 50:10Speaker 4: People don't like chatting anymore.
- 50:12Speaker 3: There will be a reason for it and I just
- 50:14Speaker 3: don't know what it is.
- 50:16Speaker 4: My issue is that my road... Whenever I order an Uber,
- 50:20Speaker 4: I have to order it to number, let's say, 12. Yeah.
- 50:22Speaker 4: Whereas my house is number 18 because it sends you
- 50:27Speaker 4: to the wrong road because my house is down a
- 50:30Speaker 4: long driveway and nearer to another little road.
- 50:32Speaker 5: Yes.
- 50:33Speaker 4: But it's actually not accessed by that little road. It's
- 50:35Speaker 4: accessed by another road. And they always go the little road.
- 50:37Speaker 4: I'm like, you're on the little road, aren't you?
- 50:39Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:39Speaker 2: And to be fair, Keezy, it's a very, very rough street.
- 50:43Speaker 3: Well, it's a slum.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and there's a lot of houses around your joint.
- 50:48Speaker 2: That's right.
- 50:48Speaker 3: There's a lot of dogs running around.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Yeah, a lot of wild kind of rabbit dogs. I know.
- 50:53Speaker 2: And sort of fires burning. So I wouldn't want to
- 50:55Speaker 2: go anywhere near your joint.
- 50:57Speaker 4: Yeah, that's fair enough. What about in terms of advice
- 51:01Speaker 4: for this fella who doesn't by the sounds of it
- 51:02Speaker 4: live in a slum like I do?
- 51:06Speaker 2: I have no advice. I don't know what to do
- 51:08Speaker 2: about it.
- 51:09Speaker 3: They suck. You know what you do? You get a P.O.
- 51:11Speaker 2: Box.
- 51:12Speaker 3: And then it just eliminates the stress.
- 51:14Speaker 4: So you order food, do a P.O. box, and then
- 51:17Speaker 4: you hop in your car, drive to the P.O.
- 51:19Speaker 5: Box?
- 51:19Speaker 2: That's right. Okay. That's actually really clever.
- 51:22Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Well, there you go, you mad bastards. That's the big
- 51:38Speaker 2: show done and dusted for your Monday evening. And what
- 51:42Speaker 2: a show it's been. It's great to be back in
- 51:45Speaker 2: the saddle, as it were.
- 51:47Speaker 5: Oh!
- 52:00Speaker 2: The Disclaimer podcast, which we do every day, used to
- 52:04Speaker 2: be called the podcast outro. What's the clip you've got today, Keezy? Filthy. Yeah,
- 52:08Speaker 2: it was filthy.
- 52:09Speaker 4: This is the first podcast back since we all got
- 52:12Speaker 4: back together. And the clip today is entitled Toiler. And
- 52:15Speaker 4: it comes out at 7.30 tonight wherever you get your
- 52:17Speaker 4: podcasts from.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Toiler? Hang on.
- 52:19Speaker 4: Toiler.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Toiler.
- 52:23Speaker 3: There we go.
- 52:24Speaker 4: You open a door. You walk in the middle of
- 52:27Speaker 4: the night, you open the door, and the toilet seat
- 52:29Speaker 4: opens automatically. And it goes, hello, Chris.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Here comes the midnight steamer.
- 52:35Speaker 4: Give us your big steamer alert.
- 52:38Speaker 3: Yum, yum, feed me.
- 52:40Speaker 2: That's right.
- 52:42Speaker 4: And I just say, oh, Combonois.
- 52:46Speaker 2: Combonois indeed. Combonois. Oh, Combonois. Yeah.
- 52:51Speaker 3: I'm thinking of making an animated short out of that book.
- 52:56Speaker 2: That would be excellent.
- 52:57Speaker 4: That was me attempting to tell the fellas about Japanese
- 53:01Speaker 4: toilets and how great they are.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 53:03Speaker 3: It was good stuff.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Hey, now, Mogi. Yeah, mate. You go home and rest, please.
- 53:12Speaker 5: Why?
- 53:12Speaker 2: Well, you know, he's not getting any younger, Kinsey.
- 53:15Speaker 3: That's true. I might take myself off to bed a
- 53:18Speaker 3: little bit earlier tonight.
- 53:19Speaker 4: Shit, I hope you've taped the chase. It is at 5.30.
- 53:25Speaker 2: What are your plans?
- 53:27Speaker 3: Well, I'll go home, obviously, watch the chase.
- 53:30Speaker 4: Or Emmerdale Farm.
- 53:31Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. Or the last of the summer wine. That's
- 53:34Speaker 3: my favourite.
- 53:36Speaker 2: It was a great show.
- 53:38Speaker 3: I don't know, what am I doing? Go home, a
- 53:39Speaker 3: little bit of dinner there, end here. I need to
- 53:43Speaker 3: watch the end of East of Eden. I've got two
- 53:45Speaker 3: eps to go. So I think that'll be tonight. Did
- 53:49Speaker 3: you watch any of that, Jase?
- 53:50Speaker 2: Watched all of it.
- 53:51Speaker 3: Oh, you watched it all. I've got two to go,
- 53:52Speaker 3: two to go. I'll tell you what happened. I started
- 53:54Speaker 3: watching it. My wife and I watched the first one.
- 53:57Speaker 3: That's when I texted you guys about it and said,
- 53:59Speaker 3: I think this might be a masterpiece. Then my wife
- 54:01Speaker 3: went away the next day. I said, look, I'm sorry.
- 54:03Speaker 3: I'm just going to have to keep watching this by myself.
- 54:05Speaker 3: It's too good. It's gone away for a couple of
- 54:07Speaker 3: weeks in the end, but I got up to episode
- 54:09Speaker 3: four and I was like, I can't watch anymore. I
- 54:11Speaker 3: need to watch it with someone so that we can
- 54:13Speaker 3: appreciate together how great it is.
- 54:15Speaker 2: It's bloody magnificent.
- 54:17Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 54:18Speaker 2: And actually, my wife and I finished that before we
- 54:21Speaker 2: went to Australia. Right. And then we watched it in
- 54:23Speaker 2: Australia with our daughters.
- 54:24Speaker 3: How good.
- 54:25Speaker 2: And they loved it.
- 54:26Speaker 3: It's amazing.
- 54:27Speaker 2: It's very good, Keezy. It's very bleak.
- 54:30Speaker 3: Lots of sexual action in there.
- 54:33Speaker 2: Oh, wow.
- 54:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 54:36Speaker 4: Sounds good, fellas. I'm just going to go home, try
- 54:38Speaker 4: to stay up a little bit later. You should go
- 54:41Speaker 4: to sleep now. No, I'm going to stay up a
- 54:42Speaker 4: bit later.
- 54:43Speaker 3: You'll be all right. You'll sleep all the way through.
- 54:45Speaker 4: Do you reckon, man?
- 54:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, totally.
- 54:47Speaker 4: You believe I can do it?
- 54:48Speaker 2: Yeah, totally.
- 54:48Speaker 3: You're doing very well today.
- 54:50Speaker 4: I landed this morning.
- 54:50Speaker 3: You're not driving home, are you?
- 54:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 54:54Speaker 3: If you're feeling tired, just pull over and have a rest.
- 54:58Speaker 4: I will, fellas. What are you doing tonight, Jase?
- 55:00Speaker 2: I'm really hungry, so I'm going to eat a lot.
- 55:04Speaker 5: What?
- 55:04Speaker 2: I'm going to eat a lot.
- 55:06Speaker 3: Eat a lot?
- 55:07Speaker 2: Of what? No.
- 55:10Speaker 3: Dumplings?
- 55:10Speaker 5: What?
- 55:11Speaker 2: I actually have a few dumplings left from last night. No,
- 55:14Speaker 2: I don't know what's for dinner tonight, but it's going
- 55:15Speaker 2: to be delicious, I'm sure.
- 55:17Speaker 4: That's great.
- 55:17Speaker 2: Hey, now, check out the podcast. Check out the Instagram.
- 55:21Speaker 5: Yes.
- 55:22Speaker 2: And until tomorrow, goodbye.
- 55:24Speaker 5: Bye.
- 55:24Speaker 3: Bye.
- 55:26Speaker 2: Bye.
