- 0:38Speaker 1: I think you're going to really benefit from this conversation
- 0:41Speaker 1: with Davis today in a world a lot of complexity, confusion,

- 0:48Speaker 1: I have a passion of steward your business. But when
- 0:50Speaker 1: I met with Davis recently and I was on his
- 0:52Speaker 1: podcast Is Company Purple Circle, we just had a great conversation.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I said, David, you've got to come on here share

- 1:02Speaker 1: and helping others grow their business sustainably. So again, David

- 1:10Speaker 1: have you share a little bit in your own words.
- 1:12Speaker 1: For those that haven't come across you, Davis has been
- 1:15Speaker 1: around for quite a while. He's got quite a following,
- 1:18Speaker 1: and if you haven't found him, you're gonna be able
- 1:20Speaker 1: to connect with him on LinkedIn. We're probably look find
- 1:22Speaker 1: resources here at the end of the podcast, but I'd
- 1:23Speaker 1: love Davis for you to share about your journey as
- 1:26Speaker 1: a business owner entrepreneur. What got you to where you're
- 1:29Speaker 1: at now with Purple Circle.
- 1:32Speaker 4: Sure, so today what I do is I buy and
- 1:34Speaker 4: scale coaching businesses.
- 1:36Speaker 3: But let's take a time back.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Before I had I was buying businesses as well as
- 1:39Speaker 4: helping owners sell their business or to be removed them
- 1:41Speaker 4: from the operations of it. And even before I have
- 1:43Speaker 4: my own seven or eight figure coaching business, I get
- 1:46Speaker 4: all the way back. In fact, I'm actually here for
- 1:48Speaker 4: the week visiting my parents. So I'm back in my
- 1:50Speaker 4: hometown and so my family we grew up. We grew
- 1:54Speaker 4: up in one of the poorest communities in America. So
- 1:57Speaker 4: I buy Atlanta Airport and growing up there wasn't much helpe.
- 2:00Speaker 4: So the community I grew up and most people don't
- 2:02Speaker 4: think about college. It's not part of our kabulary. It's
- 2:04Speaker 4: more like how do you survive? How do you get
- 2:06Speaker 4: past high school? And I already do better than what
- 2:08Speaker 4: your parents likely did. And so I grew up in
- 2:10Speaker 4: a very similar environment where I became the first person
- 2:13Speaker 4: in my family to actually complete high school and eventually
- 2:16Speaker 4: be a first with my family to go to college,
- 2:18Speaker 4: and wanted the first of my community to go to
- 2:20Speaker 4: an ID school.
- 2:21Speaker 3: And I was at this goal.
- 2:22Speaker 4: When I was growing up that I wanted more than
- 2:24Speaker 4: what I was having. It's like, for example, my waking
- 2:27Speaker 4: up and losing electricity, losing power that wasn't very fun
- 2:30Speaker 4: to be a reduced I want how do I create
- 2:32Speaker 4: this better life for it myself? And I remember the
- 2:35Speaker 4: turning point in my life actually came when I was
- 2:36Speaker 4: a third grade So actually one of the teachers who
- 2:39Speaker 4: i'll be meeting with them the shrip is, she basically said, hey,
- 2:43Speaker 4: what do you want to do when you're growing up?
- 2:44Speaker 4: And I was like, well, at the time, I'm in
- 2:45Speaker 4: door grade, so I was like, oh, we might supposed
- 2:47Speaker 4: to know what to do, and so I said, hey,
- 2:48Speaker 4: well I just want to not be poor. They know
- 2:50Speaker 4: the time, I remember being in third grade getting my
- 2:52Speaker 4: clothes from good Will and even having a pair of shoes,
- 2:54Speaker 4: I was just duct tape because we couldn't afford to
- 2:56Speaker 4: yet another good will pair of shoes, and so I
- 3:00Speaker 4: was able to essentially build up this.
- 3:02Speaker 3: It was like, well, can you do better in life?
- 3:04Speaker 4: And I told her, Hey, I want to not be
- 3:05Speaker 4: bored and she said, well, you got to go to
- 3:06Speaker 4: good college. And I asked her which one was the
- 3:08Speaker 4: best college, and of course she said Harvard, and that
- 3:10Speaker 4: became the directory of what I wanted for the next
- 3:12Speaker 4: until I was eighteen, was well, how do I get
- 3:15Speaker 4: into Harvard? And that became That became my operating modem
- 3:19Speaker 4: to go through and eventually I would to get into
- 3:21Speaker 4: college and from there eyes opened into what was possible there.
- 3:26Speaker 4: And eventually, after college, ended up working in San Francisco
- 3:29Speaker 4: where I was a management consultant at Banning Companies. I
- 3:31Speaker 4: was advising these private equity firms, these hedge funds, about
- 3:34Speaker 4: how to make their next zero right in terms of
- 3:37Speaker 4: and so. But eventually the turning point of how I
- 3:39Speaker 4: got into the coaching space and the sulting space was
- 3:44Speaker 4: after my time at Bane, I was asked to join
- 3:47Speaker 4: a company and at the time company is Fantastic. They
- 3:49Speaker 4: had this vision of making education accessible to people, even
- 3:53Speaker 4: if you're not the type of person who was going
- 3:55Speaker 4: to go to a Yale or Princeton and Whatnot's like,
- 3:56Speaker 4: how do you make it accessible? But at the time,
- 3:59Speaker 4: we hadn't figured out our lead generation, we hadn't figured
- 4:01Speaker 4: out our sales and mechanism, we hadn't figured out the
- 4:02Speaker 4: operations yet, and so we're losing hundreds of thousands of
- 4:05Speaker 4: dollars every single time. The only thing driving us was
- 4:07Speaker 4: that we had this the owner's vision. And so eventually
- 4:10Speaker 4: though we were turning around, I figure out, well, this
- 4:12Speaker 4: is how we get leads, this is how we do
- 4:14Speaker 4: our conversion process, and is how we do our fulfillment.
- 4:16Speaker 4: And so we ended up having one hundred thousand dollars
- 4:19Speaker 4: losses to million dollar weeks and of course of it
- 4:22Speaker 4: and so that was like a transformation. But there was
- 4:24Speaker 4: a time period in between which where I needed to
- 4:29Speaker 4: pay off of medical bill. It was like twenty one
- 4:30Speaker 4: thousand dollars and I didn't have the money at the time,
- 4:33Speaker 4: right and this is before the company would hit their
- 4:35Speaker 4: million dollar weeks, and of course I would make my
- 4:36Speaker 4: money from there, but I need to figure out a
- 4:39Speaker 4: way to make ends meet, and so that's where I
- 4:41Speaker 4: started to become a coach. In the beginning, it was
- 4:43Speaker 4: just a career coaching business, just helping people at their resumes, coverlers,
- 4:46Speaker 4: job interviews. It's something I was doing on Saturdays and Sundays.
- 4:48Speaker 4: So it's all public information now, But that first year
- 4:50Speaker 4: I ended up making about two hundred forty nine thousand,
- 4:52Speaker 4: and I was just working salaries Sundays, and so I
- 4:54Speaker 4: thought of myself, well, if you can make two hundred
- 4:56Speaker 4: forty nine thousand dollars just working Saurais and Sundays, what
- 4:58Speaker 4: could I do if I did this full time? And
- 5:00Speaker 4: so that's exactly what ended up happening. It was I
- 5:02Speaker 4: ended up going full time in the following year. It's
- 5:04Speaker 4: me part time coach, full time assistant. We ended up
- 5:06Speaker 4: hitting a million eventually that year, and he continued to
- 5:10Speaker 4: grow from there to where the point where that original business,
- 5:13Speaker 4: like her coaching business runs on his own, has a
- 5:15Speaker 4: leadership team. And along the way, I ended up having
- 5:17Speaker 4: a bunch of friends who were executive coaches, leadership coaches,
- 5:20Speaker 4: my set coaches who reached out and said, hey, Davis,
- 5:22Speaker 4: I don't need a ten million dollar business. I don't
- 5:23Speaker 4: even need a million dollar business, but how do I
- 5:24Speaker 4: just increase my income to at least how whever the
- 5:27Speaker 4: goal was. And so that was ended up starting what
- 5:29Speaker 4: I work on now, which is purple Circles. Because I
- 5:31Speaker 4: had so much time on my hand, I was like, well,
- 5:33Speaker 4: I can't guarantee you anything, David, but I'll cheer everything knew.
- 5:37Speaker 4: And so this broke down to three phases of purple Circle.
- 5:40Speaker 4: So the first phase was ken this actually work, and
- 5:42Speaker 4: so we ended up taking four people on from from that.
- 5:45Speaker 3: First cohort, I'll share of it. Like.
- 5:47Speaker 4: One person ended up selling his business, made his million
- 5:50Speaker 4: dollars that way, ended up basically spending his early thirties
- 5:53Speaker 4: being able to explore his passions.
- 5:55Speaker 3: One couple sold their business last year.
- 5:57Speaker 4: They had grown their busines from a hundred thousand to
- 5:58Speaker 4: about two point five million, sold it for multiples of that.
- 6:01Speaker 4: Ended up having a delayed honeymoon, so that was pretty cool.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Then took her money and took the profits of her
- 6:06Speaker 4: Buney made a down payment for her home and where
- 6:09Speaker 4: she and her five kids live today. And one person
- 6:12Speaker 4: continues to set to run his business. He's way over
- 6:14Speaker 4: four million at this point. But at the time it
- 6:16Speaker 4: was like doing one hundred thousand and so that was
- 6:17Speaker 4: pretty cool to be able to see that transformation.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Right, So that first.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Group PHO that it worked, but eventually it led to
- 6:22Speaker 4: the second group of circle members, which was, well, we
- 6:25Speaker 4: know it works, but how well can it work? So
- 6:27Speaker 4: for the second group, person I have on one person
- 6:29Speaker 4: at the time he was executive coach doing two thousand
- 6:31Speaker 4: dollars a month. Halfway through, who's doing six figures a
- 6:34Speaker 4: year and everybody the end of the year, he's doing
- 6:36Speaker 4: well over a million, and so you can kind of
- 6:37Speaker 4: see that the process the first group who to work,
- 6:39Speaker 4: second group was like, well, how well can it work?
- 6:41Speaker 4: And eventually, well can you do it without burnout? Because
- 6:44Speaker 4: a lot of it was they were hardworking, But that
- 6:46Speaker 4: third group they were hardworking too, but they're like, well, hey,
- 6:48Speaker 4: this coaching is part of what I do is my retirement.
- 6:52Speaker 4: I'm not looking to scale to six million dollars? Can
- 6:54Speaker 4: I do it on the small scale? Story answers, Yes,
- 6:56Speaker 4: you're not going to get six million dollars in a
- 6:58Speaker 4: year doing that, but in the first year anyways, But
- 7:02Speaker 4: be able to make that process and that's basically what
- 7:04Speaker 4: led me to Purple Circle, and so their short answer
- 7:06Speaker 4: is that we help coaching businesses grow. The evil plan,
- 7:09Speaker 4: of course, and I share this is that at some point,
- 7:11Speaker 4: if you decide to sell the business, I hope you'll
- 7:13Speaker 4: consider me as a want of the buyers.
- 7:15Speaker 3: No need to do that. If you don't.
- 7:16Speaker 4: There's something you sign in Purple Circle that says you
- 7:19Speaker 4: have to sell to me, or even sell at all.
- 7:21Speaker 3: But it's one of the services that we offer.
- 7:23Speaker 4: No.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I think that's great and I'm you covered a lot there.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I want to look forward to unpacking this a bit.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Uh Davis. Is you know the.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Ability that you have become what I wanted to get
- 7:33Speaker 1: you on the podcast is that you're stewarding your time,
- 7:35Speaker 1: your research as well. You said, hey, look I'm successful here.
- 7:37Speaker 1: How do I take what I did? And I love
- 7:39Speaker 1: your mission of helping with Purple Circle. You reach all
- 7:44Speaker 1: these businesses and individuals and help them, and that's sure passion, right.
- 7:48Speaker 1: How do we help liberate people, get them in a
- 7:50Speaker 1: much healthier, better place of being and not out of
- 7:54Speaker 1: out of deficit. And so one of the things you
- 7:56Speaker 1: mentioned was, you know the point of getting clear and
- 8:01Speaker 1: this is one thing I want to resonate and maybe
- 8:02Speaker 1: we can unpack this a little bit about I mean
- 8:04Speaker 1: before we even get to the burnoutside. But first of all,
- 8:07Speaker 1: like you know, you and I believe that, you know,
- 8:10Speaker 1: complexity kills that momentum.
- 8:12Speaker 2: You know, I know that from my experience.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Like if we just come standing things down, so you know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: one of the things I teach you know, leaders is
- 8:20Speaker 1: you know, confusion is expensive and clarity drives performance. So
- 8:24Speaker 1: talk a little bit. I mean, this is definitely what
- 8:26Speaker 1: I hear part of the DNA of purple circle. And
- 8:30Speaker 1: how would you example define clarity that's helped businesses scale
- 8:34Speaker 1: in particularly in the coaching business.
- 8:36Speaker 4: Davis's it comes out of three things. I'm a huge
- 8:40Speaker 4: fan of simplicity, Pasimplicity scales, fancy fails is what we say.
- 8:45Speaker 4: So when you think about it is I noticed this
- 8:48Speaker 4: too because we get to work with coaches who are new,
- 8:50Speaker 4: who are trying to make their first dollar go to
- 8:52Speaker 4: their first hundred thousand dollars year. Coaches who are making
- 8:55Speaker 4: hundred thousand dollars years go to their one hundred thousand
- 8:56Speaker 4: dollars months, and coaches who are making a hundred thosand
- 8:59Speaker 4: of all months go to their hundred dolls a.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Dollar weeks and beyond.
- 9:01Speaker 4: And the thing I see is that fundamentally is it
- 9:04Speaker 4: goes down to to how complex is your business is
- 9:07Speaker 4: in it doesn't need to be complex at all, and
- 9:09Speaker 4: for most coaching businesses, if it is complex and you're
- 9:11Speaker 4: not at a large scale, sometimes I always think, is
- 9:14Speaker 4: there someone who has a simpler business doing better than you?
- 9:15Speaker 4: If so, then they proved a path that can be there.
- 9:18Speaker 4: So when I think about the work that we do
- 9:20Speaker 4: that the secret is this, which is we think about
- 9:22Speaker 4: what's the one big thing? We call it the obt,
- 9:24Speaker 4: but it's like the one big thing that if you
- 9:26Speaker 4: do this, everything else becomes easier. And so I'll share
- 9:28Speaker 4: with your story of this to illustrate this is that
- 9:31Speaker 4: I am huge into workouts and one of the movements
- 9:35Speaker 4: I love is the deadlifts. So deadlift is basically just
- 9:37Speaker 4: lifting the bar off from the ground. And a lot
- 9:39Speaker 4: of times people think, Okay, well, how do I get
- 9:41Speaker 4: stronger with the deadlifts? For example, let's imagine that your
- 9:44Speaker 4: back can carry one hundred kilograms but your arms can
- 9:47Speaker 4: only hold eighty kilograms. Well, you're always going to be
- 9:50Speaker 4: limited by how strong your grip is not eighty kilograms.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Right.
- 9:53Speaker 4: You can make your back go from one hundred to
- 9:54Speaker 4: one hundred and eighty, but your grip's going to destroy
- 9:57Speaker 4: and you have so you always want to work out
- 9:59Speaker 4: what's the weakest link. And so how this translates that
- 10:01Speaker 4: I often see a lot of coaches. They're focusing on
- 10:03Speaker 4: what either they enjoy doing they know well, or three
- 10:06Speaker 4: they think is important, but is actually the constraint.
- 10:09Speaker 3: So I'll trade a story, which is this is a
- 10:11Speaker 3: purpose local member.
- 10:12Speaker 4: When they first started, they were doing about five thousand
- 10:13Speaker 4: dollars a month, and within three months they were doing
- 10:16Speaker 4: seventy thousand dollars months. And I'll tell you the secret
- 10:18Speaker 4: of it, which is that they the person amazing coach
- 10:20Speaker 4: and also an amazing marketer. So to him, he was
- 10:24Speaker 4: like always having a wait list about people going through.
- 10:26Speaker 3: But here it was the catch.
- 10:27Speaker 4: Out of every one hundred sales calls that booked with
- 10:30Speaker 4: him to talk to him, he only converted three people
- 10:33Speaker 4: three out of one hundred, so three percent conversion rate.
- 10:35Speaker 4: And so I joke with him, you know, you're better
- 10:38Speaker 4: off selling Selo panels in an article.
- 10:41Speaker 3: And so the thing was that he always tried.
- 10:43Speaker 4: To fix that by ever becoming a better coach, by
- 10:46Speaker 4: having better delivery or doing better marketing, because that's that's
- 10:48Speaker 4: what you knew. But the really the constraint wise, well,
- 10:50Speaker 4: your seales suck. And so let's figure out a sales
- 10:53Speaker 4: process is filter it outlets go through and eventually all
- 10:55Speaker 4: we need to do was be able to increase that. Right,
- 10:57Speaker 4: and so from three percent to the average of thirty,
- 11:00Speaker 4: that's already a ten x increase. Right, so we're going
- 11:01Speaker 4: from five years a month to fifty thousand dollars a
- 11:04Speaker 4: month and then a seventy thousand combination of a few things.
- 11:06Speaker 4: We can kind of see that how one item, if
- 11:08Speaker 4: you work on it well, unlocks everything.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Else for you.
- 11:11Speaker 4: I demonstrate this because a lot of people they focused
- 11:14Speaker 4: on the wrong thing. For example, you are a great coach,
- 11:17Speaker 4: but you don't have enough leads coming into you. But
- 11:19Speaker 4: you try to figure out how to make the coaching
- 11:21Speaker 4: better while you're not solving the problem, which is you
- 11:22Speaker 4: need more clients. But right all the time, though, but
- 11:26Speaker 4: you could be an amazing marketer and an amazing salesperson,
- 11:28Speaker 4: but you're not retaining your clients long enough.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Well, you have a coaching retention problem.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's super important.
- 11:35Speaker 1: And I think you know, we all have these blind spots,
- 11:37Speaker 1: and that's why it's helpful to have somebody like you,
- 11:40Speaker 1: Davis or myself come in and say, look, you know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: look at things and say I didn't even see I
- 11:44Speaker 1: was I was missing that, I didn't even see how
- 11:45Speaker 1: I was behaving or or approaching it that way. And
- 11:49Speaker 1: I do to your point, Davis, whether you're a coach
- 11:51Speaker 1: or not, I've seen this other business to say well
- 11:52Speaker 1: that this is a service isn't working or I don't think
- 11:54Speaker 1: it's working, let me add another service or another service,
- 11:57Speaker 1: and now you've got multiple complexities right deliver and messaging,
- 12:01Speaker 1: and now it's made it much harder even I mean again,
- 12:03Speaker 1: not even just a small I've seen this at bigger
- 12:05Speaker 1: companies too, where they try to add this on and
- 12:08Speaker 1: they've not got to your point, Davis, the clarity of
- 12:11Speaker 1: what's what really needs to be unlocked, and they're just
- 12:15Speaker 1: making it harder on themselves if you will, and then ultimately,
- 12:18Speaker 1: I mean unfortunately, ultimately can lead to the demise of
- 12:21Speaker 1: the business. I mean, most businesses don't make it. That's
- 12:23Speaker 1: the reality.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Correct on it is, especially the way I always phrase
- 12:28Speaker 4: it is that so it's all one Tomi design. I
- 12:30Speaker 4: never forgot it, which is that you could be an
- 12:31Speaker 4: amazing coach, could be an amazing consultant.
- 12:34Speaker 3: But think about it.
- 12:34Speaker 4: When you work with your clients, you tell them near
- 12:36Speaker 4: blind spots. It's the same thing with us, right is.
- 12:39Speaker 4: I was always like, we have the noses, but we
- 12:41Speaker 4: still need someone to tell us that we have bad breath.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, you can't. Sometimes you can't tell.
- 12:47Speaker 1: And I think you know that having that, And I think, Davis,
- 12:51Speaker 1: one thing you said to your background, coming from you know,
- 12:54Speaker 1: being having an understanding of you know, buying or selling
- 12:57Speaker 1: a business.
- 12:58Speaker 2: I think it's really unique.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Not everybody has that perspective, which I talk with folks
- 13:02Speaker 1: in that space murdered acquisitions, you know, and and private
- 13:06Speaker 1: equity and and and they're looking at the things like
- 13:08Speaker 1: you're saying, Davis, they're looking at these components of the
- 13:10Speaker 1: business because that's how that's how valuable the business is.
- 13:13Speaker 1: If it doesn't have systems and processes, if it's not
- 13:15Speaker 1: clear and it's messaging, if all of these things, the
- 13:17Speaker 1: sales system's broken, right Davis, if you're it's not really
- 13:21Speaker 1: that valuable. And I think people don't realize in their
- 13:23Speaker 1: mind they think it's more valuable. Oftentimes I've found that
- 13:26Speaker 1: they believe for companies more valuable than it really is.
- 13:28Speaker 1: And somebody like you, Davis can look at and say,
- 13:31Speaker 1: you know, I'm seeing breakdowns here right.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Exactly is depends on what your goal is on it.
- 13:37Speaker 4: If your goal is eventually to sell the business, the
- 13:39Speaker 4: buyer needs to know that you have all the systems
- 13:41Speaker 4: and processes in the place, because, for example, David, if
- 13:43Speaker 4: you sell your business and all of a sudden they
- 13:44Speaker 4: don't get David and David's the wine and doing holding
- 13:46Speaker 4: all the strings together, well, you didn't really buy anything here, yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 4: And so that's the extreme of it. But even if
- 13:52Speaker 4: you don't buy a business, at some point you want
- 13:53Speaker 4: to be able to take breaks and take vacations and
- 13:55Speaker 4: time with people and not worry that the business are
- 13:57Speaker 4: concromable apart. So that's sort of the systems and pros
- 14:00Speaker 4: these need to come in and it doesn't have to
- 14:02Speaker 4: be complicated for coaching business that she doesn't. It's like
- 14:04Speaker 4: it's not like we're trying to run a nuclear power plant.
- 14:06Speaker 3: It's just way's he doing right?
- 14:09Speaker 2: Well, So so if we get clear.
- 14:12Speaker 1: If we have a better you know, were understanding of
- 14:14Speaker 1: where we're at, then what's happens is hopefully that's clear.
- 14:17Speaker 1: But you've got that understanding. Now, what I found is okay.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Even if they're clear, sometimes they still try to do everything.
- 14:25Speaker 1: And I think, recognizing I've been this and myself, I've
- 14:28Speaker 1: seen this other companies and business owners they try even
- 14:30Speaker 1: though they're really good at business, but they they have
- 14:33Speaker 1: trouble letting go and then there's this burnout phase where
- 14:35Speaker 1: they feel like they got to do everything or they
- 14:38Speaker 1: got to touch everything. And speak to me, speak if
- 14:41Speaker 1: you wouldn't meet Davis, You've done this, You've built multimillion
- 14:43Speaker 1: dollar companies of like and you said like you said,
- 14:46Speaker 1: I could step away, now I could you know, speak
- 14:48Speaker 1: to that kind of mindset understanding of like you chose to,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I can step away. I don't have to be there
- 14:54Speaker 1: every day. And when there's like I don't know that
- 14:57Speaker 1: that shift in your space. I mean you came to
- 14:59Speaker 1: it quickly, but I feel some business owners day they're
- 15:01Speaker 1: slower to accept that.
- 15:03Speaker 2: But I've got to be involved. I've got to have
- 15:05Speaker 2: my hands on everything.
- 15:07Speaker 4: You know, you know, so you to think about like
- 15:10Speaker 4: what is your goal, like what is your role responsibility?
- 15:12Speaker 4: For example, if you're a business owner, you're trying to
- 15:14Speaker 4: build a business that can run without you. If you're
- 15:16Speaker 4: just trying to be a coach, and obviously you're going
- 15:18Speaker 4: to be a coach, and that's totally nothing wrong with that.
- 15:20Speaker 4: If you just want to be a coach forever and
- 15:21Speaker 4: take on how many you can people do that?
- 15:23Speaker 3: There's one aspect when you're.
- 15:24Speaker 4: Trying to own a business, I can operate without you,
- 15:26Speaker 4: where you can go to sleep and it actually runs
- 15:28Speaker 4: and so forth. Like the way I think about it
- 15:30Speaker 4: is that think like going to an apple store, Tim
- 15:32Speaker 4: Cook is not in there opening the door and closing
- 15:34Speaker 4: every single location every single day. And so that's the
- 15:37Speaker 4: aspect of it, is like how do you do that?
- 15:39Speaker 4: You can choose to still be involved in the business
- 15:40Speaker 4: in other ways. So the way that I think about
- 15:42Speaker 4: this is that I think about a coaching business in
- 15:45Speaker 4: four phases. There's phase one, which is what I call
- 15:47Speaker 4: the pioneer. Pioneer is you wake up, you push the
- 15:49Speaker 4: wagon to wagon moves. But if you decide, hey, you
- 15:52Speaker 4: know what, I'm going to take a day off, the
- 15:53Speaker 4: wagon does not move.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Nothing happens. You're like this leopreneur. So that's what one.
- 15:57Speaker 4: But eventually you want to be able to evolve at least,
- 15:59Speaker 4: so level two, which is a pacer. So a pacer
- 16:01Speaker 4: is you have some systems, some process in place, and
- 16:03Speaker 4: here you can step away as in it doesn't mean
- 16:06Speaker 4: you can step away every day for the rest of
- 16:08Speaker 4: your life. You still to come back in, but at
- 16:09Speaker 4: least you know that, Okay, you know what I've I
- 16:11Speaker 4: know the clients will be taken care of. I know
- 16:13Speaker 4: that I have a legiond trusting going in and you
- 16:16Speaker 4: can set that pace right a simple two. Then you
- 16:18Speaker 4: move into level three, which is what I call the pilot.
- 16:20Speaker 4: And David, this is what you alluded to, is that
- 16:22Speaker 4: oftentimes we started our business because there's something that we
- 16:25Speaker 4: just love and other part so that you don't love.
- 16:27Speaker 4: For example, is it the coaching, is it being the visionary,
- 16:29Speaker 4: is it creating the content?
- 16:30Speaker 3: What is it?
- 16:31Speaker 4: So the pilot allows you to step into that role,
- 16:33Speaker 4: like similar to a United pilot or a Delta pick
- 16:36Speaker 4: your favorite airline.
- 16:37Speaker 3: You want to step onto.
- 16:39Speaker 4: The air blame, but you don't want to think that,
- 16:41Speaker 4: oh wait, why is the pilot serving me in my water?
- 16:43Speaker 4: Why is he emptying my cargo bags here? Right, It's
- 16:45Speaker 4: like I want to do the one thing they do
- 16:47Speaker 4: well and everything else is served by someone else.
- 16:49Speaker 3: So that's the pilot. And eventually you go through each
- 16:52Speaker 3: of the faces.
- 16:52Speaker 4: So you start from a pioneer while you're doing everythingle
- 16:54Speaker 4: you go out to the pacer where you're setting the pace.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Of the business.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Does it go fast as it goes slow? Eventually you
- 16:58Speaker 4: go into level three, which is pilot. You get to
- 17:00Speaker 4: choose what you work on at level four if you
- 17:02Speaker 4: decide is the passengor so. This is like Richard Branson
- 17:05Speaker 4: steps on version and it says, all right, you know
- 17:07Speaker 4: what I want to go to next to island?
- 17:09Speaker 3: Take me there.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:10Speaker 4: He doesn't have to worry about every single aspect of it,
- 17:13Speaker 4: but you can choose, like if he wants to step.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Out and be involved, he could, but he doesn't need to.
- 17:17Speaker 4: And the national levels I want to and not every
- 17:19Speaker 4: coach and iary business owner wants to get to level four,
- 17:22Speaker 4: but at least define your vision of where you want
- 17:24Speaker 4: to be. I haven't find anyone who wants to be
- 17:25Speaker 4: on level one. Usually if you want at least to
- 17:27Speaker 4: get to level two, but level two, three or four?
- 17:29Speaker 3: Where do you want to be?
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah? No, I think that's really important.
- 17:32Speaker 1: And I think again, having something like yourself, Davis, or
- 17:35Speaker 1: a coach, somebody that's looking at these things, asking these questions,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you're going to go be much healthier and go further
- 17:42Speaker 1: and do it sustainably. And I think that's so important
- 17:46Speaker 1: because if you're if you're not aware of this, I
- 17:49Speaker 1: think some people maybe someone are aware, but they realize
- 17:52Speaker 1: they need somebody to like just kind of reflect.
- 17:53Speaker 2: That, Like to your point is that your goal? Is
- 17:55Speaker 2: that really where you want to be?
- 17:57Speaker 1: And you're like, no, not really, Okay, well then then
- 17:59Speaker 1: we have have to shift our focus and and and
- 18:02Speaker 1: and I think someone like you Davis helps unlock folks
- 18:04Speaker 1: to then say, okay, where what is it that.
- 18:07Speaker 2: You want to be? You know, get clarity and so
- 18:09Speaker 2: that you're not burning out.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Because I feel like if you have a and I'd
- 18:11Speaker 1: love your thoughts, but if you have a compelling vision,
- 18:14Speaker 1: but where you want to go, then you're like, Okay,
- 18:16Speaker 1: that's the vision's way, it's out there, but I'm gonna
- 18:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna adjust how I need to to get there,
- 18:22Speaker 1: because it's just burning inside in me and I want
- 18:24Speaker 1: to and I want to get that.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I want to get stuck in my own way.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly.
- 18:29Speaker 4: It's it's very clear about where the world map has
- 18:31Speaker 4: to be, so I always all to people this too.
- 18:33Speaker 4: Is like I learned this when when I was a kid.
- 18:34Speaker 4: So when when I was playing video games, I would
- 18:37Speaker 4: also get stuck at a level, and I knew that
- 18:38Speaker 4: you can get past that level.
- 18:39Speaker 3: So there's a couple of things you do.
- 18:40Speaker 4: You can ever grind it out, play a couple more days, weeks, months,
- 18:43Speaker 4: whatever it is, and gets a nice little or you
- 18:45Speaker 4: just find someone who's been there and to show you
- 18:47Speaker 4: to rops.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Out and get there.
- 18:48Speaker 4: It's a lot easier, right, great to be really And
- 18:50Speaker 4: the same thing with my business. I can't credit myself
- 18:52Speaker 4: for having created everything myself as and I had to
- 18:54Speaker 4: figure out and basically get coaching, get mentoring, get consultants
- 18:58Speaker 4: at every single level ad Like for example, when I
- 19:01Speaker 4: first hired my first general manager, I was like, well,
- 19:03Speaker 4: I want to make sure that I accompetate them well in responsibilities.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I can step away form the business and transition plan.
- 19:07Speaker 4: I've had some big ideas about it, do it, but
- 19:10Speaker 4: it was like, well, what if I just hire other people,
- 19:11Speaker 4: Like even if there were one thousand dollars an hour
- 19:13Speaker 4: or fifteen hundred two thousand dollars or whatever they've done it,
- 19:15Speaker 4: I want to.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Learn from their playbooks. Like, well, that's me ten years
- 19:17Speaker 3: of learning into just a few hours.
- 19:21Speaker 4: And that has been my motus in terms of being
- 19:24Speaker 4: able to figure anything out. So when I went from
- 19:26Speaker 4: the neighborhood where people don't go to college to also
- 19:29Speaker 4: can go in to the Yale at Harvard, the secret was,
- 19:31Speaker 4: well I couldn't afford college counseling at the time. But
- 19:33Speaker 4: what I ended up doing is just code emailing students
- 19:36Speaker 4: who were at Harvard and Yale trying to learn about
- 19:37Speaker 4: how did you get in? And when I was at
- 19:39Speaker 4: Yale and Harvard, I was like, well, I want to
- 19:41Speaker 4: work at Bathing Company. I want to work at mckinzie's.
- 19:43Speaker 4: And even though they only take one out of every
- 19:44Speaker 4: sixty thousand applicants or whatnot, like one percent of the applicants,
- 19:47Speaker 4: It's like, well, I want to learn how.
- 19:49Speaker 2: To do that.
- 19:49Speaker 4: And so I reached out to the consultan who were there,
- 19:51Speaker 4: and so I was like, every simple a way, It's like,
- 19:53Speaker 4: didn't have to reinvent the world. Like I said, we're
- 19:54Speaker 4: not building nuclear power plans, but even if you were
- 19:56Speaker 4: building a nuclear power plant, you're probably not start from scratch.
- 19:59Speaker 4: You're probably find other people who built out nuclear popcuts.
- 20:02Speaker 4: It's the same thing when we talk about coaching consulting,
- 20:04Speaker 4: and a lot of people who are here listening to
- 20:06Speaker 4: did episode. I was like, well, we got to take
- 20:08Speaker 4: our own medicine, right. It's like you imagine going to
- 20:10Speaker 4: a doctor who doesn't believe in medicine.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, no, absolutely. I mean that's why we have
- 20:15Speaker 1: the Business around Table podcast. We want voices like yours
- 20:17Speaker 1: out there.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Davis.
- 20:17Speaker 1: It's like, hey, come learn listen. And if you're like,
- 20:20Speaker 1: oh my gosh, there's there's value here and I'm getting
- 20:23Speaker 1: unlocked and I'm many help, come check it out. I mean, so,
- 20:27Speaker 1: by the for those of you that you know I
- 20:28Speaker 1: mentioned earlier, you know, I'm connected with Davis on LinkedIn,
- 20:31Speaker 1: and you guys will put purple circle and the links
- 20:33Speaker 1: there so you guys can go check out the community
- 20:35Speaker 1: learn more.
- 20:37Speaker 2: You know, It's been a great resource for.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Me and I'm really was really glad to be on
- 20:42Speaker 1: the podcast as well, because again, you know, don't go alone.
- 20:47Speaker 1: And what I love about what you're doing, Davis, is
- 20:49Speaker 1: you're helping business owners and they realize, Okay, like I said,
- 20:51Speaker 1: what would this investment? And I think you did this
- 20:54Speaker 1: with me a calculator of time, like how much time
- 20:56Speaker 1: is it taking you to do this? And like how
- 20:58Speaker 1: would if we could change and channel that time into
- 21:01Speaker 1: something more productive? And I mean somebody else come in there,
- 21:04Speaker 1: and that's what I love to do. Or your business
- 21:05Speaker 1: is like how do I integrate the team into your vision?
- 21:08Speaker 1: And why having you on the podcast Davis as you're
- 21:10Speaker 1: unlocking them saying Okay, here's the real focus. Let's get
- 21:13Speaker 1: your rest of your team in place so that you
- 21:16Speaker 1: can do what's the most impactful.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Right correct? Yeah, what would you say? You know, once
- 21:23Speaker 2: we get that part of you know?
- 21:25Speaker 1: So we were like, okay, like you said, we're moving
- 21:27Speaker 1: toward not everybody, but many of us want to move
- 21:30Speaker 1: to that passenger role. But in order to do that,
- 21:33Speaker 1: it requires, you know the power of what I say,
- 21:36Speaker 1: frameworks and systems. And I think what I loved about
- 21:40Speaker 1: your Purple Circle framework, if you will, Davis, was this
- 21:42Speaker 1: is a simple we talked about earlier, simple clarifying way
- 21:46Speaker 1: of where is the where is the breakdown? You know,
- 21:49Speaker 1: we all have these different things and happens, you know
- 21:51Speaker 1: over the business life cycle. You know, you might have
- 21:54Speaker 1: one dialed in it right now, but then that could
- 21:56Speaker 1: break down depending on what other You know, pressure is
- 21:58Speaker 1: always kind of what do they say at the weak
- 21:59Speaker 1: point in the There's always something that kind of gives
- 22:02Speaker 1: and then shifts one thing and then we fix that
- 22:04Speaker 1: and then another part has to adjust. So talk a
- 22:06Speaker 1: little bit, if you would, about you how you've created
- 22:09Speaker 1: you know, you've had my consulting offer, you have this
- 22:12Speaker 1: career coaching you know, like scaling blueprint if you will,
- 22:15Speaker 1: If you wouldn't mind just kind of walking us through that.
- 22:17Speaker 3: Davis happy to share that.
- 22:19Speaker 4: Actually, yeah, so for anyone who's listening to this on
- 22:22Speaker 4: the audio version, there is another reason for you to
- 22:24Speaker 4: check out David's YouTube and check out the videos. But yeah,
- 22:26Speaker 4: let me then pull us off for you. Happy to
- 22:28Speaker 4: share the framework, So I'll give you a backdrop of it,
- 22:30Speaker 4: which is, this is the framework I wish I had
- 22:32Speaker 4: when I was building my business, and it's the same
- 22:33Speaker 4: framework I use when I think about buying a coaching
- 22:36Speaker 4: business or I think about scaling a coaching business. And
- 22:38Speaker 4: it's the same one where I'm actually consulting with two
- 22:40Speaker 4: coaching businesses are doing about one hundred million dollars each.
- 22:43Speaker 3: And this is the same framework we institute with them
- 22:45Speaker 3: as well.
- 22:46Speaker 4: And so let me actually, I'm sure I'm a screen here.
- 22:51Speaker 1: You may need to let's see make sure. We'll make
- 22:53Speaker 1: sure that you can access it. If you have a trouble,
- 22:55Speaker 1: we'll see if I.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Move it around here for you, Davis.
- 22:59Speaker 4: No worries, all right, no whereas here, let's let's do this.
- 23:02Speaker 4: I think what we'll need to be able to do
- 23:04Speaker 4: is all right, since this is on stream yard, we
- 23:10Speaker 4: might need to be able to do two our steps.
- 23:12Speaker 2: Here, here we go. If you have the file we'll
- 23:15Speaker 2: put like, I can pull it up or the purple
- 23:17Speaker 2: circle itself.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Yeah, how about that. Let's say is up drawing it.
- 23:21Speaker 3: Let me just do the let me do this, let
- 23:25Speaker 3: me actually do this for you, and.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Well, Davis is pulling that up.
- 23:29Speaker 1: We are on on YouTube, so you guys can always
- 23:35Speaker 1: click up our YouTube videos. Of course, we appreciate you
- 23:38Speaker 1: guys subscribing on it. Whatever the podcast platform you like,
- 23:41Speaker 1: we'd run all of them pretty much and if if
- 23:43Speaker 1: you don't find me on one, let me know if
- 23:45Speaker 1: your look up David Carr or the Business Roundtable podcast.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Happy to you know. Have you guys subscribe? Leave comments too,
- 23:53Speaker 1: as you guys are listening to this. If you have
- 23:55Speaker 1: a specific comment, put it into the with the feed
- 23:59Speaker 1: wherever you find us, whether it's LinkedIn Spotify, Amazon Music,
- 24:03Speaker 1: whatever the case might be. Leave a review and share
- 24:06Speaker 1: your comment with you know, thoughts feedback. We welcome it
- 24:11Speaker 1: and it's doesn't always have to be positive, but we
- 24:13Speaker 1: just wanted to be constructive, I should say so constructive
- 24:16Speaker 1: feedback is always helpful and welcomed.
- 24:20Speaker 2: And Davis, i't know if you have trouble.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Pulling it up because I know we use the platform streamer,
- 24:25Speaker 1: which is a lot of fun, but sometimes there's a
- 24:26Speaker 1: little technical fun Thames we have to work around.
- 24:29Speaker 3: It's all good on that one.
- 24:31Speaker 4: So worst case scenario, what I'll do is I'll just
- 24:33Speaker 4: do the pop one version or actually know what I
- 24:35Speaker 4: can do here is all right? What do you do
- 24:37Speaker 4: when do a workaround? It's always all about entrepreneurship.
- 24:39Speaker 2: So there we go.
- 24:40Speaker 1: See this is we're doing it in real time, so
- 24:42Speaker 1: we're collaborating, so you guys get to see. This is
- 24:44Speaker 1: what it's like to work with a true professional. It's like, hey,
- 24:47Speaker 1: you know what, how can we work together on this?
- 24:49Speaker 4: Uh?
- 24:49Speaker 2: And I love it.
- 24:52Speaker 3: Here.
- 24:52Speaker 4: I'm gonna go ahead and do something as will come out.
- 24:57Speaker 4: Is I'm gonna share my screen on So usually on
- 25:00Speaker 4: Zoom you can just go ahead and just share an iPad.
- 25:02Speaker 4: But obviously I just thought that there's no pact connectivity.
- 25:04Speaker 4: So I'm gonna do is this.
- 25:06Speaker 3: I'm gonna go ahead, and.
- 25:09Speaker 1: And I think if you while you're doing that, I
- 25:12Speaker 1: have I think I have the actual purple circle too.
- 25:14Speaker 2: I'm gonna see if I've got it here. Let me
- 25:16Speaker 2: see if I can pull that up as well.
- 25:18Speaker 4: All good, I got it the quick, I got it.
- 25:21Speaker 4: I'm gonna share my screen here, and I'm sure scenes
- 25:25Speaker 4: it's good. All right, let's go share a window here, sir?
- 25:29Speaker 3: All right? Great, all right, so you should be able
- 25:32Speaker 3: to see my screen now, which we go.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:34Speaker 3: So whenever I think about.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Evaluing a coaching business, consulting business's work, there is I
- 25:39Speaker 4: think about three things. So I am a coach, non artist,
- 25:42Speaker 4: so you are excused the handwriting here, and so whenever
- 25:46Speaker 4: I think about a coaching business, there's really three things
- 25:48Speaker 4: I look for. First off is when I buy them
- 25:51Speaker 4: is do they have consistent leads? If they don't have
- 25:54Speaker 4: consistent leads, you don't have revenue coming in right. Second
- 25:58Speaker 4: is do you have consistent sales? The reason why is
- 26:01Speaker 4: that you can have all the leads coming in, but
- 26:03Speaker 4: if you can't convert them. Similar to what I mentioned
- 26:05Speaker 4: about the coach who was doing five thousand, what the
- 26:07Speaker 4: unlocked for him doing fifty thousand a month and beyond
- 26:10Speaker 4: was just being able to have consistent sales. And then finally,
- 26:13Speaker 4: you need to be able to deliver on the sales,
- 26:15Speaker 4: which is the consistent results. Otherwise people will leave bad reviews. Now,
- 26:18Speaker 4: let's talk about what happens a lot of coaches. They
- 26:20Speaker 4: have one, maybe two d's, but they don't have all three.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Let's talk about what happens when you're missing a crucial component.
- 26:25Speaker 4: Let's imagine you're an amazing marketer and you're amazing at sales.
- 26:29Speaker 4: People come to you, you have a might as such,
- 26:31Speaker 4: they become clients, but you don't have the results to
- 26:34Speaker 4: back it up. Like people fall through the cracks and
- 26:37Speaker 4: you're trying to be the center of everything. Well, at
- 26:39Speaker 4: least the two things. First off, it leads to a
- 26:41Speaker 4: bad brand, so people will speak poorly of you, like
- 26:44Speaker 4: bad brand. And the second thing it leads to is
- 26:49Speaker 4: burnout because you're trying to ruggle everything as once. So
- 26:53Speaker 4: you want to avoid that, right now, that's the first part.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Now the second part of it is if you have
- 26:57Speaker 4: consistent leads and consistent results, but you don't have consistent sales,
- 27:00Speaker 4: you run into cash flow issues, which is some months
- 27:03Speaker 4: you are like, oh my gosh, I'm gonna be rich.
- 27:05Speaker 4: I'll remind you like, wow, how do I pay myself?
- 27:07Speaker 4: You want to avoid that, and you could be an
- 27:09Speaker 4: amazing salesperson, an amazing coach, amazing operator, but you don't
- 27:12Speaker 4: have leads coming in. You basically have low revenue because
- 27:16Speaker 4: not enough people know about you. So ultimately, what you
- 27:18Speaker 4: want to do is be in this purpose cercle in
- 27:20Speaker 4: the middle. Right you have because this is in leads,
- 27:22Speaker 4: because it's in sales and results. So now how do
- 27:25Speaker 4: you actually get that. I'm actually going to unpractice one
- 27:28Speaker 4: level further and walk you through how to think about
- 27:30Speaker 4: each of these levels. So whenever you're thinking about consistent leads,
- 27:35Speaker 4: and this will work with you to whatever. Again, if
- 27:37Speaker 4: you're trying to go to your first hundred thousand, your
- 27:38Speaker 4: first one hundred thousand dollars a month, you're herd firste
- 27:40Speaker 4: hundred thusand dollars a week, it's first off, you need
- 27:43Speaker 4: to be very clear on your offer promise, who do
- 27:46Speaker 4: you serve and what do you serve? So a lot
- 27:47Speaker 4: of times I find that coaches they try to be
- 27:49Speaker 4: everything to everyone. Oh yeah, and that's basically trying to
- 27:54Speaker 4: be a buffet. Like some people just want sushi, but
- 27:57Speaker 4: you're trying to be a buffet that happens to serve sushi, right,
- 28:00Speaker 4: So that's slows you down. So in order to more
- 28:03Speaker 4: just need to be able to figure out who you
- 28:05Speaker 4: deliver and what's the outcome that you're delivering to. Second
- 28:07Speaker 4: is you need to have your one channel. And so
- 28:09Speaker 4: a lot of coaches I find are are trying to
- 28:11Speaker 4: be on five, six, seven different channels, but really all
- 28:14Speaker 4: they need to do is be on one channel and
- 28:16Speaker 4: to be on that channel consistently. Whoever that's LinkedIn Instagram, Facebook,
- 28:20Speaker 4: ass whatever it is, just be consistent on it. There
- 28:22Speaker 4: are businesses I work with they're doing like eighty million
- 28:25Speaker 4: and they're pretty much have one primary marketing channel on it.
- 28:28Speaker 4: But for most businesses, I find out you can get
- 28:30Speaker 4: to one point seven million without even touching a second channel.
- 28:34Speaker 4: You can do in LinkedIn, one point seven million on Instagram,
- 28:37Speaker 4: whatever it is, you.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Can do that.
- 28:39Speaker 4: And once you have that process, once you have that channel,
- 28:41Speaker 4: doubt in, you need to be able to have the
- 28:42Speaker 4: marketing process behind it. Otherwise you're just basically wishing for
- 28:46Speaker 4: luck or you're trying to burn yourself out. So think
- 28:48Speaker 4: about can you step away and the marketing engine continues
- 28:50Speaker 4: to work. Now, those are the first three things I
- 28:52Speaker 4: work for. But if you have that the offer promise,
- 28:55Speaker 4: the one channel in the marketing process, you're going to
- 28:56Speaker 4: get consistent leads. Now, from consistent leads, you're able to
- 29:00Speaker 4: get to consistent sales. So what happens now is you
- 29:03Speaker 4: have you should have be able to generate so many
- 29:04Speaker 4: leads that you have a wait list and people who
- 29:07Speaker 4: want to work with you talk to you about your services.
- 29:09Speaker 4: And so the next thing that breaks down is you
- 29:11Speaker 4: need to have a pre sales process. This is like
- 29:14Speaker 4: a qualification. So a lot of coaches, once we unlock
- 29:16Speaker 4: their consistent leads, they run to this problem where they're
- 29:19Speaker 4: having so many people reach out to them, but not
- 29:21Speaker 4: everyone's qualified. Sure, so you need to be able to
- 29:23Speaker 4: qualify people. The type of people you want to work with.
- 29:25Speaker 4: They have the budget and they have their desire. What
- 29:28Speaker 4: you're offering them don't imagine that's all trip. So the
- 29:31Speaker 4: people who show up and then coaching you can relate to.
- 29:33Speaker 4: This is if you ever talk to someone who drags
- 29:35Speaker 4: on the conversation, you know that they're never going to
- 29:36Speaker 4: join you. They don't believe in investing themselves and they
- 29:39Speaker 4: don't have to. They don't even want you offer terrible
- 29:42Speaker 4: waste of time. And once you have that pre sales process,
- 29:44Speaker 4: we then move into the sales process. The sales process
- 29:49Speaker 4: is making sure that you have a clear, defined sales
- 29:51Speaker 4: process so that you're not reinventing the wheel every single day,
- 29:54Speaker 4: because if you're reinventing the wheel every single day, what
- 29:56Speaker 4: ends up happening is that you're going to end up
- 29:57Speaker 4: struggling find to find the scale r And once you
- 30:00Speaker 4: have a sales process, you need to be able to
- 30:02Speaker 4: have the capacity to be able to take on the
- 30:04Speaker 4: sales calls and to be able to serve the clients
- 30:07Speaker 4: that you're onboarding, because if you don't have any of those,
- 30:08Speaker 4: you don't have a business.
- 30:09Speaker 3: You're just constrained by yourself.
- 30:10Speaker 4: So we talked about that, right, Yeah, So the test
- 30:12Speaker 4: I always think is that, well, the tests I always
- 30:15Speaker 4: think about is that if you lose your voice tomorrow,
- 30:18Speaker 4: could someone else take over for you temporarily?
- 30:21Speaker 3: And the answer is no, you don't have the capacity.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:25Speaker 4: Well, let's imagine right now you did all for six
- 30:27Speaker 4: you have existent leads and consistent sales. You need to
- 30:30Speaker 4: be able to deliver on the back end, and delivering
- 30:32Speaker 4: on the back end.
- 30:32Speaker 2: What was like this?
- 30:33Speaker 3: There's three things.
- 30:34Speaker 4: First off is the delivery right now, if you're at
- 30:37Speaker 4: the center of your delivery, like the delivery doesn't happen
- 30:39Speaker 4: without you, then you don't really have a business. You
- 30:42Speaker 4: just have a job that people pay you and hopefully.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Pay a lot for it.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Youinu to be able to move yourself from delivery.
- 30:48Speaker 4: But outside of delivery, you also need the systems and
- 30:50Speaker 4: of course you talk about this they're done your podcast here.
- 30:53Speaker 4: You need to have the systems and procesies in the
- 30:54Speaker 4: back end to make sure that everything gets caught. You
- 30:57Speaker 4: have someone doing your pay roll, so you're paying everyone
- 30:59Speaker 4: on time, someone who's collecting the invoices from clients payments
- 31:03Speaker 4: all the way to hey, I know exactly how to
- 31:06Speaker 4: track my leads and my sales. So this system's behind it.
- 31:09Speaker 4: And finally, most importantly, you need a scale plan. If
- 31:13Speaker 4: you're planning to grow your business. It's knowing exactly what
- 31:15Speaker 4: you need to work on, when to work on it,
- 31:17Speaker 4: and how to work on it. If you don't do that,
- 31:19Speaker 4: you're just spinning your wheels and you see other people growing.
- 31:22Speaker 4: You know you're capable growing, but yet you're struggling. And
- 31:25Speaker 4: so this is how I think about it too. And
- 31:27Speaker 4: this is self assessment. So if anyone wants to go
- 31:29Speaker 4: through the self assessment, you need just go through our website.
- 31:31Speaker 4: It will allow you to walk through this and you
- 31:32Speaker 4: can do this exercise to see where you're at in
- 31:34Speaker 4: your business. It will allow you to figure out the model.
- 31:37Speaker 4: Neck For example, if you have consistent leads and as
- 31:39Speaker 4: the results, but you're just not getting considered sales, well,
- 31:41Speaker 4: work on consident sales and work on is it the
- 31:43Speaker 4: pre sales process? Is the process or is it the
- 31:45Speaker 4: lack of capacity to be able to keep up?
- 31:49Speaker 2: Yeah? I love it.
- 31:50Speaker 1: I love it you guys, So those are you are
- 31:52Speaker 1: I'm going to bring us back here, but those of
- 31:54Speaker 1: you that are not watching the video you can still
- 31:56Speaker 1: obviously take notes, come come back. There's a lot in
- 31:58Speaker 1: there that David just broke down. But I really feel
- 32:01Speaker 1: like the simplification, Davis of Okay, obviously there's nuanced in
- 32:06Speaker 1: those things that we talked you talked about, but the
- 32:08Speaker 1: overall simplification understanding this and where where we need to
- 32:12Speaker 1: focus in it really goes to you know, leading our
- 32:15Speaker 1: business as well leading ourselves well and focusing on those things.
- 32:18Speaker 1: And again, I appreciate you presenting that, Davis, and I
- 32:22Speaker 1: think really this speaks to your what I love again
- 32:24Speaker 1: your your mission of Purple Circle is to really transform.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I love this a billion lives. That's that's a goal,
- 32:29Speaker 1: that's a that's a you know, that's putting it out there,
- 32:32Speaker 1: and I love that to empower coaches that we can
- 32:34Speaker 1: that we can make this lasting impact and get out
- 32:37Speaker 1: of our own way, because I feel like there's a
- 32:39Speaker 1: lot of folks that you know, they really want to
- 32:41Speaker 1: help k they really they really called they want to
- 32:43Speaker 1: help them, and they're in their own way, and so
- 32:47Speaker 1: you know, seeing Davis, what you've been able to do
- 32:50Speaker 1: what I.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Call it this, I love it. I call it like
- 32:52Speaker 2: a ripple effect.
- 32:53Speaker 1: If you will that you're you're you're creating this space
- 32:55Speaker 1: where coaches grow and their clients can thrive. And it's
- 32:59Speaker 1: not just stuck only on me. Yes, I have the
- 33:02Speaker 1: idea of the vision, but it's like leading myself well
- 33:05Speaker 1: so I can be in the right place at the
- 33:07Speaker 1: right time. I think that is a fantastic tool that
- 33:11Speaker 1: you've presented it to us today.
- 33:13Speaker 3: I appreciate it.
- 33:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I know we're getting to the end of the
- 33:18Speaker 1: podcast and I would love to go alonger with you, Davis,
- 33:20Speaker 1: but I know our time is short.
- 33:23Speaker 2: You know, you just covered a whole lot of different things.
- 33:25Speaker 1: If if you know, if I'm coming into this, and
- 33:28Speaker 1: maybe maybe you can speak to this in a couple
- 33:30Speaker 1: of different ways. If if if they're a new coach,
- 33:32Speaker 1: maybe they've been around for a little while, they're getting stuck,
- 33:36Speaker 1: or maybe they're they're you know, where would you suggest
- 33:40Speaker 1: to them to start, like, Hey, you know you're not
- 33:43Speaker 1: getting the results that you want because obviously you're stressed,
- 33:46Speaker 1: you're burned out, you're not seeing the results. Like you said,
- 33:48Speaker 1: those different areas, whether it be cash flow or they're
- 33:51Speaker 1: they're not getting consistent leads right, or you're you're getting
- 33:54Speaker 1: you know that that scalability isn't there. What would you
- 33:57Speaker 1: suggest to somebody as they are listening to this podcast
- 33:59Speaker 1: as they walk away they're listening to it today, Dave,
- 34:02Speaker 1: is that they should take action on.
- 34:05Speaker 4: So two things that I have found always been a
- 34:08Speaker 4: proof point where I feel like eiver. The first thing
- 34:11Speaker 4: I always think about is like, do you actually want
- 34:12Speaker 4: to change? So the question I always ask people to
- 34:15Speaker 4: is that how do you feel about the quality of
- 34:19Speaker 4: your income, the quality of your life, and the quality
- 34:22Speaker 4: of the type of clients you're working with? And the
- 34:24Speaker 4: answer is I wouldn't change a single thing at all.
- 34:26Speaker 4: Just keep doing what you're doing and then you don't
- 34:28Speaker 4: need to change anything. But if you do believe that
- 34:31Speaker 4: you're capable of more income, you're capable of having more
- 34:33Speaker 4: or better clients, and you're capable of having more time
- 34:35Speaker 4: freedom and how they got well, who's done the thing
- 34:37Speaker 4: that you want to be able to do. Have a
- 34:39Speaker 4: conversation with them and figure out because if they've cracked it,
- 34:42Speaker 4: it's not impossible for you to do the same thing
- 34:45Speaker 4: just finding those people and just having that conversation and
- 34:47Speaker 4: from there you'll see what the future looks like.
- 34:48Speaker 3: It's not only to me.
- 34:50Speaker 4: Probably the biggest hack I've had in again, just my
- 34:52Speaker 4: whole journey is that successfully is clues is you can
- 34:55Speaker 4: try to find and figure out all this alone, but
- 34:58Speaker 4: better yet, just talk to someone.
- 35:00Speaker 1: I love that, Davis, and I love that you've created
- 35:03Speaker 1: a community with Purple Circle. So you know, I've I've
- 35:06Speaker 1: found power in communities who different you know, folks that
- 35:09Speaker 1: I've been a part of, And one hundred percent agree, Davis,
- 35:11Speaker 1: is like finding a community, find a tribe that you
- 35:13Speaker 1: can be a part of that gets that you'll go
- 35:16Speaker 1: further together and you're not isolated, you're not alone. I
- 35:19Speaker 1: love hearing the successes that you've shared earlier on the
- 35:22Speaker 1: podcast of folks that have come in the different cohorts,
- 35:24Speaker 1: because Davis, I'm sure they weren't I mean they were
- 35:27Speaker 1: just going in there alone. You've created not only they
- 35:29Speaker 1: work in the frameworks and systems that you have them
- 35:31Speaker 1: in together talking with each other, right.
- 35:34Speaker 4: Correct, So I mean it's a huge aspect of it.
- 35:36Speaker 4: To me, it's more like two things. I'll tell you
- 35:39Speaker 4: what the importance of the community in general, where it's
- 35:41Speaker 4: purpose or going anywhere else is. I always believe that
- 35:42Speaker 4: if you find a community in places where there are
- 35:44Speaker 4: people doing the things that you want to do, you
- 35:46Speaker 4: gradulate naturally towards it. So when I was starrying my
- 35:48Speaker 4: first business, when I was starrying with my consulting offer
- 35:50Speaker 4: for a coaching business, I was like, well, I was
- 35:53Speaker 4: in rooms where I was hanging out with people who
- 35:55Speaker 4: are doing one hundred thousand dollars years as coaches, and
- 35:57Speaker 4: I was like, Oh, if they can do it, I
- 35:58Speaker 4: can do it too. Of course I've blasted past that,
- 36:00Speaker 4: and I was like, wow, what they can do it?
- 36:01Speaker 4: Why would I hang out with people who are doing
- 36:03Speaker 4: a million dollars a year. It's like the same thing, right,
- 36:05Speaker 4: well ten million. It's the same aspect of it is
- 36:07Speaker 4: like your your vision of it always changes. So for example,
- 36:10Speaker 4: one of the groups I'm in right now, not that
- 36:12Speaker 4: I want of private ject, but he's just like, ohya,
- 36:13Speaker 4: I'm just casually flying around his private ject.
- 36:15Speaker 3: And I'm like, oh wow, okay, that levels possible too.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely, the possibility is there.
- 36:21Speaker 1: And Davis, I just want to say thank you for
- 36:22Speaker 1: coming on the podcast here, if you guys got any
- 36:25Speaker 1: you know value, which I got a ton out of
- 36:27Speaker 1: here and just hearing it again the Purple Circle and
- 36:29Speaker 1: my other things, I would really encourage you to reach
- 36:31Speaker 1: out to Davis go to go to join Purple circle
- 36:35Speaker 1: dot com check it out, and any other notes. We'll
- 36:38Speaker 1: make sure we put it in the show notes so
- 36:39Speaker 1: you guys can follow up. Davis, Thank you so much
- 36:41Speaker 1: for being here with us today.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Awesome.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Thanks David absolutely.
- 36:46Speaker 1: Of course, again, like earlier on the podcast, you guys like.
- 36:50Speaker 5: I'll love you, welcome your reviews as well, and just
- 36:55Speaker 5: encourage you to steward yourself well, steward your business well,
- 36:59Speaker 5: keep that vision alive and come back.
- 37:01Speaker 1: Into the next episode of the Business Round People podcast.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Thanks everybody for listening. MHM
