- 0:09Speaker 1: But it's an interesting one.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It says that the surprising way fatherhood changes men. We'll
- 0:18Speaker 2: take a quick look at this and it's a feel
- 0:20Speaker 2: good story. Stay tuned, hi, and welcome to Health Talk

- 0:45Speaker 2: Our daily devotional today for June twenty second comes through
- 0:48Speaker 2: the Book of Psalms, Chapter one, sixteen.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Thank me for the very things that are troubling you.
- 0:54Speaker 2: You're on the brink of rebellion, precariously close to shaking
- 0:57Speaker 2: your fist in my face. You're attempted to indulge in
- 1:00Speaker 2: just a little complaining about my treatment of you. Once
- 1:04Speaker 2: you step over that line, torrents of rage and self
- 1:07Speaker 2: pity can sweep you away. The best protection against this
- 1:10Speaker 2: indulgence is Thanksgiving, it's impossible to thank me and curse
- 1:14Speaker 2: me at the same time. Thanking me for trials will
- 1:18Speaker 2: feel awkward and contrived at first, but if you persist,
- 1:21Speaker 2: your thankful words praded faith will eventually make a difference
- 1:25Speaker 2: in your heart. Thankfulness awakes you to My presence, which
- 1:29Speaker 2: overshadows all of your problems.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Stay tuned.
- 2:48Speaker 2: It's amazing since I get the results of this podcast.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I find out that.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Last week we were in Algeria, and we were in
- 2:56Speaker 2: Saudi Arabia and a lot of other countries, and people
- 2:59Speaker 2: wonder why I play the national anthem before every show
- 3:03Speaker 2: Because I'm a proud American. I love this country, I
- 3:06Speaker 2: love everything that stands for it, and I hate what
- 3:09Speaker 2: the Democrats.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Are doing to it.
- 3:10Speaker 2: And I will bring that up over and over and
- 3:14Speaker 2: over again. So the surprising way fatherhood changes men. Before
- 3:19Speaker 2: the baby arrives, men are already changing in ways that
- 3:22Speaker 2: reshape their brains, hormones, and their sense of self. Decades
- 3:27Speaker 2: of research have examined what fathers do for their children.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Almost none of it asked a question, what does having
- 3:33Speaker 2: children do to father? Many men struggle to articulate what
- 3:37Speaker 2: happens after they become fathers life continues to look similar
- 3:41Speaker 2: from the outside, the same job, the same house, similar
- 3:44Speaker 2: daily routines.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Yet many fathers describe.
- 3:47Speaker 2: The feeling that something fundamentally is shifted. Fatherhood doesn't just
- 3:52Speaker 2: create a new identity, says Tommy madera licensed marriage to
- 3:56Speaker 2: a family therapist. Sometimes it reveals something that was already
- 4:01Speaker 2: there but had yet to be called forward. Scientists are
- 4:04Speaker 2: now finding evidence of measurable changes and expected fathers even
- 4:07Speaker 2: before they begin changing diapers or reading bedtime stories. Fatherhood
- 4:12Speaker 2: is often considered to begin in the delivery room, research
- 4:16Speaker 2: suggests it may begin much earlier. A twenty twenty five
- 4:20Speaker 2: study followed first time fathers and found miserable hormonal changes
- 4:23Speaker 2: in the men before the baby arrived, challenging the view
- 4:27Speaker 2: that fathers as observers waiting on the sidelines. Study found
- 4:31Speaker 2: that fathers had higher oxytocin levels than non fathers, often
- 4:35Speaker 2: referred to as the bonding hormone, and it plays that
- 4:39Speaker 2: in attachment, trust in social connection. Researchers believe it may
- 4:43Speaker 2: help to support the close parent child relationships that developed
- 4:46Speaker 2: during infancy. One of the most intriguing findings of the
- 4:50Speaker 2: study involved testosterone. It found that fathers of had experienced
- 4:53Speaker 2: lower testosterone levels after becoming parents, a shift that may
- 4:57Speaker 2: help redact direct attention from competition and more toward family life.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Depecting fathers with lower testosterone levels during pregnancy more likely
- 5:07Speaker 2: to become highly involved fathers after birth. Changes aren't limited
- 5:12Speaker 2: to hormonal levels. Brain regions related to empathy and affection
- 5:18Speaker 2: see an increase in activity, and there's a shift to
- 5:20Speaker 2: how the courtisol works in the body. This helps the
- 5:23Speaker 2: father to be more aware of the baby's needs and
- 5:25Speaker 2: respond faster to them. While both mothers and fathers become parents,
- 5:30Speaker 2: that transition unfolds differently from men. While mothers undergo more
- 5:34Speaker 2: visible physical change during pregnancy and child birth, fathers are
- 5:38Speaker 2: more likely to experience this transition internally. The biggest thing
- 5:43Speaker 2: for me has been the learning of patients and justin
- 5:46Speaker 2: attunas a California father of two sons.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Kids want your attention all the time.
- 5:51Speaker 2: You realize they're not trying to be difficult, they just
- 5:53Speaker 2: want to share their world with you. Fatherhood has forced
- 5:57Speaker 2: me to slow down and see things through their eyes.
- 6:01Speaker 2: The transition happened gradually, Frantwo, as he said, through countless
- 6:05Speaker 2: ordinary moments that required him to be another person's needs
- 6:09Speaker 2: ahead of his own. His experience reflects a theme that
- 6:12Speaker 2: appearance repeated conversations with fathers. Many describe the feeling that
- 6:17Speaker 2: life becomes less centered on personal ambition and more focused
- 6:21Speaker 2: on serving a purpose larger than themselves. Men are often
- 6:25Speaker 2: socialized prioritize achievement, productivity, independence, and professional success. A twenty
- 6:32Speaker 2: twenty four review known as the Paternal Body describe fatherhood
- 6:36Speaker 2: as a developmental transition, concluding that it can affect how
- 6:41Speaker 2: men think, feel, and understand themselves. Across dozens of studies,
- 6:45Speaker 2: researchers found that becoming a father can reshape a man's
- 6:48Speaker 2: physical health, emotional lives, relationship, and even their identity. The
- 6:53Speaker 2: role has a way of doing what years of therapy
- 6:56Speaker 2: sometimes can't. It moves life from abstract to concrete very fast,
- 7:02Speaker 2: with no onboarding process. A newborn forces a man to
- 7:06Speaker 2: find answers. Someone is depending on you, watching you, learning
- 7:09Speaker 2: from you, whatever you intend to do it or not.
- 7:13Speaker 1: For many men, becoming.
- 7:14Speaker 2: A dad challenges what they were taught a man was
- 7:18Speaker 2: supposed to be. Many boys grow up hearing message is
- 7:23Speaker 2: like don't cry or be tough, often from a father
- 7:29Speaker 2: who showed love by working hard rather than take talking
- 7:32Speaker 2: to our feelings. However, when children start to cry, some
- 7:36Speaker 2: dab's first impulses to walk away.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Others go to the opposite way.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Hovering over every sound at the baby's monitor, determined not
- 7:44Speaker 2: to repeat the emotional distance they had with their kids.
- 7:48Speaker 2: In both cases, fatherhood forces many men to see how
- 7:52Speaker 2: their own upbringing and the version of masculinity that they
- 7:56Speaker 2: were given shows up in their parenting. Jann And Franklin,
- 8:00Speaker 2: a psychologist who specializes in family dynamics, said that the
- 8:04Speaker 2: process of caring for childs often where the most distinctive
- 8:07Speaker 2: growth happens. Men who were never asked how they felt
- 8:11Speaker 2: suddenly have to track both their child's emotions.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And their own.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Over time, many learn to manage their reactions and remain
- 8:18Speaker 2: present during difficult situations.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Franklin believes his experiences often serve.
- 8:23Speaker 2: As catalysts for a father's own development become a father.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Becoming a father.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Can reactivate memories and patterns from a man's relationship with
- 8:31Speaker 2: his own parents. In some cases, they understand their own
- 8:35Speaker 2: parents even better, comes an opportunity to address issues that
- 8:38Speaker 2: have lingered for years.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Children also have.
- 8:41Speaker 2: A way of reflecting both parents' strength and shortcomings. Fatherhood
- 8:45Speaker 2: becomes an unexpected mirror, an opportunity for growth. Children introduce
- 8:50Speaker 2: responsibilities can feel overwhelming, but they also provide a reason
- 8:54Speaker 2: to endure challenges that might otherwise seem impossible. Sleep in
- 8:58Speaker 2: personal times suddenly becomes more flexible than they once seemed.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Blanco has observed that men experiencing greater self confidence, improved
- 9:06Speaker 2: relationship quality, increased emotional flexibility, and higher levels of life
- 9:11Speaker 2: satisfaction after becoming fathers. Every day presents opportunities to show up,
- 9:16Speaker 2: fall short, learn and try again, and newborn does not
- 9:20Speaker 2: care what a man does for a living. They have
- 9:22Speaker 2: no interest in professional accomplishments or status symbols that one
- 9:25Speaker 2: seemed important. Child only knows whether someone comes when it cries,
- 9:30Speaker 2: whether someone stays when things are difficult, and whether someone
- 9:33Speaker 2: can be counted on for tomorrow. For many men, that's
- 9:37Speaker 2: simply that simple reality becomes one of the most powerful
- 9:40Speaker 2: forces of change they'll ever experience. It asks more of
- 9:44Speaker 2: them than they expected, and it reveals parts of themselves
- 9:47Speaker 2: that they never have discovered otherwise. In the process of
- 9:50Speaker 2: raising a child, many find that they too are still
- 9:54Speaker 2: becoming the men they hope to be. That was outstanding,
- 10:00Speaker 2: Take it to heart, share it with him and Dad.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Be great to do, Have a great, healthy day,
