- 0:01Speaker 1: Good morning, good morning, good morning, and welcome, welcome, welcome
- 0:04Speaker 1: it as I am now for ask the doctor, and
- 0:06Speaker 1: the doctor is Carrie Williams from med Club Artileswell.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Hey doc, hi, good morning.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Hey.
- 0:12Speaker 1: What is med Club Because a lot of people want
- 0:15Speaker 1: to know. They see the sign out there on seventy
- 0:18Speaker 1: five across from Jimmy's Egg and they say med Club. Look,
- 0:22Speaker 1: I'm going to put you on the spot.
- 0:24Speaker 3: Okay, it is a club. You have to be a member,
- 0:27Speaker 3: and we take less than seven hundred patients. And what
- 0:30Speaker 3: it is, It's called direct primary care. That's the type
- 0:34Speaker 3: of practice it is, and that is a relationship, contractual
- 0:39Speaker 3: relationship between.
- 0:40Speaker 2: A patient and a physician.
- 0:43Speaker 3: The physician will provide basic primary care services and so
- 0:48Speaker 3: that allows that patient to have access to that doctor.
- 0:51Speaker 3: The patient can see that doctor as many times as
- 0:54Speaker 3: they need to, and the doctor will spend a lot
- 0:58Speaker 3: more time with that page. Because usual traditional practice has
- 1:03Speaker 3: between three and four thousand patients, having several hundred allows
- 1:07Speaker 3: that doctor more time per patient.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Well, doesn't that mean that people would be more expensive?
- 1:12Speaker 3: It will be less expensive because it is flat fee
- 1:14Speaker 3: every month and it's determined by your aid. We do
- 1:17Speaker 3: not cut kind of like traditional interest. We do not
- 1:20Speaker 3: cover your impatient or your surgeries, or baby deliveries or.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Your X rays.
- 1:27Speaker 1: You.
- 1:27Speaker 2: That's that is not.
- 1:29Speaker 3: A primary care service or a physician's primary care.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Service, buddy. Primary care is fusing with the doctor, finding
- 1:37Speaker 1: out what needs to be found out and assessing where
- 1:42Speaker 1: you are and meeting that patient where they are.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Yes, and it's very important to me that a patient
- 1:47Speaker 3: determine their own healthcare goals.
- 1:50Speaker 2: What are your goals? Well, we have to be realistic
- 1:53Speaker 2: about some of these goals. We're not going to be
- 1:55Speaker 2: twenty fifty. You're not going to be twenty.
- 1:57Speaker 1: Five again, Well, doctor, you and I have had that conversation.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Yes, but I'm a partner in your healthcare. I'm known
- 2:04Speaker 3: to be quite blunt. It's very forthright and direct about
- 2:07Speaker 3: your healthcare. That's okay, but I want you to understand
- 2:12Speaker 3: it and you to know, and I very much encourage
- 2:15Speaker 3: that my patients study a lot about their own disease process,
- 2:20Speaker 3: their own health maintenance.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Well, knowledge is power, and it gets you to that
- 2:24Speaker 1: goal that you work together to figure out. You need
- 2:28Speaker 1: the knowledge as the patient, you need the information to
- 2:31Speaker 1: help you help yourself.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Exactly if you go to your accountant or your attorney.
- 2:36Speaker 3: They're not going to explain a vocabulary to you. They
- 2:39Speaker 3: expect you to know.
- 2:39Speaker 2: A lot of it.
- 2:40Speaker 1: And how do you feel when that happens? Because I'm
- 2:42Speaker 1: just being rhetorical here. When you're with doctor Williams, you're
- 2:45Speaker 1: going to get some words, but you're going to find
- 2:47Speaker 1: out what's going on, and you're also going to understand
- 2:49Speaker 1: these terms and you'll be able to help guide the
- 2:52Speaker 1: course along with doctor Williams for the best outcome reaching
- 2:57Speaker 1: your health.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Goal and that most people haven't thought about their goals?
- 3:00Speaker 1: Do they have it? You just the ouches hearts fix it.
- 3:02Speaker 1: It's like taking your card to the mechanic. Well. Your
- 3:05Speaker 1: body is your human body. It's not like your.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Car well, and most people treat their cars better than
- 3:11Speaker 3: they do their bodies.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Have seen that. Yes, I might have been guilty of
- 3:15Speaker 1: that once upon a time in the month.
- 3:17Speaker 3: They hot wroted a lot and they don't do regular maintenance,
- 3:21Speaker 3: let alone look under the hood.
- 3:22Speaker 1: That's where this comes together. Now you spend an average
- 3:26Speaker 1: of a half hour or two even longer, and sometimes
- 3:28Speaker 1: with your patients because you can't. It's you don't have
- 3:31Speaker 1: thousands of patients you have a limited.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Number, Yes, I do, and I am not an employed
- 3:36Speaker 3: position that is contracted to see so many patients per day.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And I will talk directly to you.
- 3:41Speaker 1: And that's okay because I think a lot of people
- 3:44Speaker 1: are tired of being sugarcoated.
- 3:46Speaker 2: But some people cannot tolerate straight talk, especially in.
- 3:49Speaker 3: The beginning well about the healthcare and they have to
- 3:53Speaker 3: kind of warm up to it. But the knowledge, and
- 3:57Speaker 3: I asked my patience to study and to meet me
- 4:01Speaker 3: part way too and understand the terminology and things like that,
- 4:05Speaker 3: because I would much rather teach you the disease process
- 4:09Speaker 3: versus teach you the vocabulary.
- 4:12Speaker 1: And when you know the process, when you know what's
- 4:14Speaker 1: going on, you don't feel like you're in the dark
- 4:17Speaker 1: about anything. This is where the partnership comes in to
- 4:19Speaker 1: keep you and your health all the row.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Yes, having time to get to know patients and that
- 4:25Speaker 3: patient know me, just just earn both ways.
- 4:28Speaker 2: It does, and the better you do, the better it is,
- 4:33Speaker 2: the better it is.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Indeed, now some folks will insist that doctors do nothing
- 4:38Speaker 1: more than refer you to somebody else because they're best.
- 4:42Speaker 1: That's not necessarily the case.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Well, it's very difficult for contracted doctor or employed doctor
- 4:49Speaker 3: to meet a lot of those specialist needs in that
- 4:52Speaker 3: ten minute period that they see you, so they do
- 4:55Speaker 3: refer you. And at med Club we take the time
- 4:59Speaker 3: to skate a lot of that there you go prior
- 5:02Speaker 3: to giving you a referral to someone else. It is
- 5:05Speaker 3: known in the labs spending time with your blood work
- 5:09Speaker 3: or your X rays or your EKG is important. And
- 5:13Speaker 3: I make sure you get copies of everything.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's for sure. And in time you're going
- 5:18Speaker 1: to understand every little three litter thing that has a little.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Abbreviation and vibration.
- 5:26Speaker 3: And no, it's it's detailed, and it's not fun, but
- 5:29Speaker 3: it's yours, it's.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Yours, and you are in control. Yes, this helps you
- 5:34Speaker 1: guide your own path to a healthier, much better you. Now,
- 5:39Speaker 1: speaking about the path, a lot of folks in their
- 5:43Speaker 1: twenties and thirties and forties date they don't think too
- 5:46Speaker 1: much about their health because darn few folks in that
- 5:50Speaker 1: age range really have a lot of pain or maybe
- 5:55Speaker 1: even indicators that they might have something wrong with them,
- 5:57Speaker 1: even though it might be cooking down below deepense idea.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I think just kind of go about in the merry way.
- 6:03Speaker 1: But we all have a defined time, a limited time
- 6:07Speaker 1: on this earth, and we have life expectancies, Yes we do.
- 6:10Speaker 3: And in the United States it's a little over seventy
- 6:13Speaker 3: eight years, So those of us that are over porty
- 6:17Speaker 3: have lived half of our life. Like an automobile, things
- 6:21Speaker 3: wear out and they're supposed to wear out. That's the
- 6:26Speaker 3: natural progression of the human being. Sure, And so what
- 6:31Speaker 3: wears that and how and how much misery are you
- 6:34Speaker 3: in to getting towards.
- 6:35Speaker 2: The end of your life.
- 6:36Speaker 1: When we talked about getting a little older, you mentioned
- 6:40Speaker 1: that seventy four seventy eight point four years is the
- 6:44Speaker 1: average life expectancy. We also have folks who are native
- 6:49Speaker 1: to set and sometimes that changes too. We have folks
- 6:53Speaker 1: who might be from other places in the world who
- 6:55Speaker 1: are living here now, and that might have changed too,
- 6:58Speaker 1: because we don't all have the background developing factors.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Well, a lot of your health will be determined by
- 7:05Speaker 3: what you inherit from your parents, that's true, and understanding
- 7:08Speaker 3: your family histories of their help is very important because
- 7:13Speaker 3: it will help you determine and help you anticipate what
- 7:16Speaker 3: is coming your direction as far as healthcare.
- 7:19Speaker 1: And it would be very wise to get in on
- 7:23Speaker 1: this as early as you can in life, and some
- 7:26Speaker 1: they have when things start to manifest you catch them
- 7:29Speaker 1: as they're getting a hole instead of treating them after
- 7:34Speaker 1: the fact.
- 7:34Speaker 3: That is the preferred way to do that for all outcomes,
- 7:39Speaker 3: and that family history will help you anticipate it and
- 7:43Speaker 3: help predetermine where a direction. Doesn't mean you will get
- 7:48Speaker 3: it for sure, sure, but.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Well, I'm going to pull out a couple of things.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Perhaps your father is arthritic, or your mom is diabetic,
- 7:57Speaker 1: or perhaps cancers. See the flare up in different parts
- 8:01Speaker 1: of the old family tree. It would probably be a
- 8:05Speaker 1: real good idea to at least get checked for these
- 8:08Speaker 1: things while you're still healthy and not presenting any symptoms
- 8:11Speaker 1: of chronic illness.
- 8:12Speaker 3: You are correct also in getting it checked when you're younger.
- 8:16Speaker 3: It's a baseline there you go, and it allows your
- 8:20Speaker 3: doctor to determine where you started and what you are
- 8:24Speaker 3: now and how much change.
- 8:26Speaker 1: My goodness, age and the life can change. I've seen
- 8:29Speaker 1: this with my friends and as I have aged, usually
- 8:32Speaker 1: right around fifty five for guys. Anyway, the wheels started
- 8:35Speaker 1: falling off a little bit. It's a kind of overstatement,
- 8:38Speaker 1: but you notice that You're not the same as you
- 8:40Speaker 1: were at twenty five or thirty five. There are definitely
- 8:44Speaker 1: some markers there when you hit certain ages.
- 8:47Speaker 3: Correct that family history, but also the way you treated
- 8:50Speaker 3: your body before you got to the park.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Yes, before you got there. Did you maintain it? Did
- 8:56Speaker 2: you hot ride it?
- 8:56Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:57Speaker 3: Those type of things, But kind of like a Cory vehicle,
- 9:00Speaker 3: you want to take care of it. It's a great
- 9:02Speaker 3: investment and you are the best investment you can make.
- 9:07Speaker 1: That is true, So take care of it now. When
- 9:09Speaker 1: we go to Medclub Barblesfield, we have a website here
- 9:14Speaker 1: that tells us a lot about how this works and
- 9:16Speaker 1: how you can be a part of it. What is
- 9:18Speaker 1: the website?
- 9:19Speaker 3: It is Medclub dot clinic and it will answer most
- 9:22Speaker 3: questions you have. It also has a form to fill
- 9:26Speaker 3: out to become a member of bed Club. And if
- 9:31Speaker 3: that's not enough, give.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Us a call.
- 9:33Speaker 3: We'll try to answer your question and if that's not enough,
- 9:35Speaker 3: we'll try to get you in and have a non
- 9:37Speaker 3: medical appointment at no charge.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Pretty good. I look around, get the lay of the land,
- 9:41Speaker 1: kind of get used to things. Yes, now, doctor, I
- 9:43Speaker 1: want to get back because some of these statistics that
- 9:45Speaker 1: you provided, if you include people over the age of
- 9:48Speaker 1: forty five with the US population, and they use a
- 9:51Speaker 1: lot of healthcare dollars.
- 9:52Speaker 2: There is over seventy percent of our country's.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Healthcare dollars and people are over sixty five are seventeen
- 10:01Speaker 3: percent of our population but consume thirty five percent of
- 10:05Speaker 3: our healthcare dollars.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Making this so this is.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Evidence that as you growled or you don't get healthier
- 10:11Speaker 3: as a general rule.
- 10:12Speaker 1: As a general rule, so you know, if you're doing
- 10:14Speaker 1: your job, taking care of life, doing things. Right now
- 10:17Speaker 1: you're hearing us on the radio, I want you to
- 10:19Speaker 1: put some deep thought into the website here Medclub dot
- 10:22Speaker 1: clinic and take a look around, because you're at that
- 10:26Speaker 1: age right now where you probably feel pretty good, but
- 10:29Speaker 1: you might not feel great. But the thing is, even
- 10:31Speaker 1: if you're feeling really good, it's still a good idea
- 10:35Speaker 1: to spend some time with a qualified position who's going
- 10:39Speaker 1: to spend the time with you. You get to know you,
- 10:42Speaker 1: to help you look under the hood, to help you
- 10:44Speaker 1: help yourself in reaching and maintaining your health goals.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Like your automobile, you don't want to be broken down
- 10:51Speaker 2: on the side of the road.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Nobody wants that.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And no one coming to get you.
- 10:57Speaker 3: So don't let your health slip so are in the
- 11:00Speaker 3: wrong direction that it cannot be fixed.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Four and ten Americans have at least one chronic condition
- 11:08Speaker 1: and half have two or more. That's an astounding statistic.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And it usually creeps up before you hit in the
- 11:16Speaker 1: middle age.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Yes it does.
- 11:18Speaker 3: And getting your blood pressure under control, your high cholesterol
- 11:22Speaker 3: or your asthma, something like that that's important long term.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Is a lot of people don't realize how important keeping
- 11:30Speaker 1: that blood pressure down into the safe range truly is.
- 11:35Speaker 3: But it's just like your car just because it's getting
- 11:38Speaker 3: ready to blow it cylinder, it's still run, yeah, but
- 11:42Speaker 3: then you're broken down on the side of the room
- 11:44Speaker 3: where don't let that blood pressure gets so bad that
- 11:48Speaker 3: it tears things up. That is a long term disease
- 11:51Speaker 3: that more than likely you inherited.
- 11:53Speaker 1: It's setting that baseline is so important.
- 11:56Speaker 2: It is.
- 11:56Speaker 3: And patients investing in themselves, not just money.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I'm talking time and information.
- 12:03Speaker 3: It's going to the doctor and taking pills is not
- 12:06Speaker 3: enough investment. Educating yourself, being aware of what are the
- 12:10Speaker 3: symptoms of this and being able to stop them before
- 12:13Speaker 3: they progress forward.
- 12:15Speaker 2: That's an investment, and.
- 12:17Speaker 1: You'll get that at mid club Martins Bill. One thing
- 12:20Speaker 1: that I hear people saying, I just feel like I'm
- 12:23Speaker 1: so in the dark whenever I get a medical opinion,
- 12:25Speaker 1: I have no idea what they're talking about. Well, this
- 12:27Speaker 1: is part of the education. Yes, yes, and you converse
- 12:30Speaker 1: with the doctor. You're going to learn things. The doctor
- 12:34Speaker 1: is going to learn things. You're both going to learn things.
- 12:36Speaker 1: You're both got to come away with a much better
- 12:38Speaker 1: understanding of what is present and what do we do
- 12:42Speaker 1: moving forward?
- 12:43Speaker 2: Correct?
- 12:43Speaker 3: That is healthcare something you want sugarcoded. No, and being
- 12:48Speaker 3: very transparent with your results and what you need to
- 12:52Speaker 3: do to move forward and stay as healthy as you
- 12:55Speaker 3: can is important. A lot of people don't like that,
- 12:58Speaker 3: but surecoding does no one any favors.
- 13:02Speaker 1: No, it doesn't. In fact, it could give you maybe
- 13:05Speaker 1: the wrong signal on what you should be doing in
- 13:08Speaker 1: order to be on that path to help the.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Wellness correct, And no one wants to hear you've got
- 13:16Speaker 3: to change your diet or you need to put so
- 13:19Speaker 3: many steps in a day to help yourself. That's hard,
- 13:22Speaker 3: and that's an investment, and I know it.
- 13:27Speaker 1: The first look on someone's face is you got to
- 13:29Speaker 1: be kid, And the thing is like, well, you weren't
- 13:32Speaker 1: doing it before. That's kind of how you got here.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Yes, and saying yeah that for ben ice cream needs
- 13:38Speaker 3: to go away, and no, that's not something you want to.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Do because it brings you pleasure. But it's a double
- 13:44Speaker 2: edged sword.
- 13:45Speaker 1: But I do want folks to really get familiar with
- 13:47Speaker 1: the process. Here. Med Club Bartlesville is a membership fee
- 13:51Speaker 1: and I pay that once a month. But I get
- 13:53Speaker 1: to see the doctor as often as I need to. Yes,
- 13:55Speaker 1: And I have access to my doctor far more than
- 13:58Speaker 1: I would have to break your position at another type
- 14:03Speaker 1: of clinic where there are many physicians at a corporate
- 14:06Speaker 1: structure interface.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yes, besides the face to face appointment, a lot of telephone,
- 14:11Speaker 3: a lot of text emails. And I make sure you
- 14:14Speaker 3: have copies of your labs or any other results. And
- 14:18Speaker 3: usually it's accompanied by a note of some I say,
- 14:23Speaker 3: and I compared to your last ones, and we talk
- 14:27Speaker 3: about it. The patient investing with time and effort into
- 14:30Speaker 3: their own healthcare is the best investment they can make.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Tell us how we can find you. Where are you locating?
- 14:36Speaker 3: We are located on Highway seventy five across the street
- 14:39Speaker 3: from Jimmy's Egg and it's twenty three or one Southeast
- 14:42Speaker 3: Washington Boulevard.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Our number is nine one eight two one four eight.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Two zero zero, and our website is Midclub dot clinic.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Thanks for listening to one on lum of the Professional
- 14:58Speaker 1: Paid presentation at fourteen hundred one
