- 1:56Justified released. Welcome to the For Freedom
- 2:01podcast. This podcast exists to bring the
- 2:04freedom of the gospel for everyday Christians with
- 2:08everyday issues. I ain't.
- 2:09Saved by dress codes, not by what I eat.
- 2:12I'm covered in the righteousness.
- 2:13Washed from head to feet. No tally of tradition, No man
- 2:16made code. Blood bought my freedom.
- 2:18Now I ride that road. They clutch pearls when they see
- 2:21smoke rings rise. But my prey still ascends past
- 2:24the legalist cries. Christ plus nothing.
- 2:27That's the real math. So miss me with your fence laws
- 2:30and your extra path. He sat with sinners, I'm sitting
- 2:33with Saints. Slipping grace from the bottle,
- 2:35No room for face. I like one for liberty.

- 2:51justified, released. For freedom, He set me free, not
- 2:55for change, not for guilt, not for Pharisee.
- 2:58Grace lit the flame now, puffing peace, cigars and victory
- 3:01justified, released. Let grace begin for freedom.
- 3:06He set me free, not for change, not for guilt, not for Pharisee.
- 3:10Grace lit the flame Now. Now, here are your hosts, James
- 3:13Seyfried and Brett Martin. All right, we're excited to have
- 3:17Miss Brooke on today talking about her time at Crown College
- 3:21of the Bible. And what we want to begin with
- 3:24is just asking you a couple questions about your time there
- 3:27and about your experience at Crown.
- 3:30And so welcome to the show. Brooke, why don't we start with
- 3:32your arrival. What initially drew you to go to
- 3:34Crown and what was sort of your expectations going into the
- 3:38journey of the Crown College of the Bible?
- 3:41Right. So honestly, I knew I was going
- 3:46to go to Crown from the time I was a sophomore in high school.
- 3:49That was the first time I visited there.
- 3:52So I was pretty. I was young.
- 3:55I was around 15, maybe 16 the first time I went.
- 3:59And I grew up. My dad's a pastor, so I grew up
- 4:05and that kind of, I guess, realm of people.
- 4:10And like, I knew different preachers that went there and I
- 4:12had heard of it before and things like that.
- 4:14So it wasn't like a completely new place.
- 4:17Like I'd heard of it and we had tribal groups come to our church
- 4:21and things like that. So I got to know people through
- 4:23there. So, yeah, all through high
- 4:25school, I knew that's where I was going to go.
- 4:27My parents pushed it pretty hard.
- 4:29I knew that I was going to go to a Christian college.
- 4:31And like I said, I grew up, I'm very much independent
- 4:35fundamental Baptist. So it was kind of like always
- 4:38determined that that's the way that I was going to go.
- 4:41And I grew up very, you know, in a pretty strict household.
- 4:46So the idea of Crown was kind of just like, oh, well, it's not
- 4:51much different than what I'm used to.
- 4:53So I went and visited every year up until I graduated high
- 4:56school. And so I was, I would say
- 5:00initially I was very excited to go.
- 5:02I was excited to kind of have the newness of being away from
- 5:06everybody and getting to meet new people.
- 5:09I did have one like childhood friend that was also going
- 5:12there. So we were able to reconnect and
- 5:17I, I did make friends initially. So initially I was very, very
- 5:22excited to go and be there and kind of soak it all in.
- 5:24And it seemed like there was and there is a lot that you can get
- 5:27involved in. So I kind of at the beginning
- 5:29jumped in full fledge and was honestly excited to be there.
- 5:34One quick follow up before withholder and Brett.
- 5:37Are you still independent Fundamental Baptist?
- 5:39Is your dad still pastoring? Is he still independent
- 5:42Fundamental Baptist? And do you still go to that
- 5:43church, I guess. Yeah, So my dad still is a
- 5:46pastor, independent fundamental Baptist.
- 5:50I'm going to consider myself Baptist.
- 5:54I think that's kind of a kind of something I'm still figuring
- 5:57out. I don't go to my dad's church
- 6:01anymore. I still live in the area.
- 6:02But as I got a little older and moved out, I just kind of
- 6:06realized that maybe the space was like a good thing.
- 6:10You know, I kind of just wanted my dad to be my dad and not feel
- 6:14the need to have to be like to pastor me as well, just because
- 6:18I did have some beliefs that were different and it I didn't
- 6:22want to butt heads with my, you know, my dad's one of my best
- 6:24friends. So I didn't want that to be like
- 6:26a reason to butt heads. And so I felt like putting some
- 6:29space between that and allowing him to just be my dad was the
- 6:33right move for me. It's great.
- 6:36Well. Let's talk for a second about
- 6:38some of the positive experience that you had.
- 6:41I mean classes, friendships, ministry.
- 6:45What were some of the the good takeaways that you had from your
- 6:48experience there? So one of them would be that I
- 6:53did get to reconnect with that childhood friend.
- 6:55We had several, several years. We just didn't speak.
- 7:00And so coming into, at first when I found out she was going,
- 7:04I was a little nervous. But then when we saw each other
- 7:08again, it was like time hadn't passed at all.
- 7:11So that friendship is one that I still am like super thankful
- 7:14for. I don't, I think without us
- 7:16going to Crown, we would have never reconnected.
- 7:18And so I'm thankful that we were able to through that.
- 7:23There were lots of ministries that you can get involved in,
- 7:29and that's kind of like a Gray area too, because I do think
- 7:32that, yes, they were great to get involved with.
- 7:35Sometimes I feel like they were more like student LED.
- 7:40So meaning if there were no students, there would be no
- 7:42ministries. That's kind of how I still feel
- 7:44about that. But for someone who really wants
- 7:48to be involved in ministry, it's easy to get plugged into.
- 7:53I mean, several different ones. I personally did the nursing
- 7:56home ministry and I found a lot of, you know, joy in that and it
- 8:00was fun to go and I play the piano, so I was able to use that
- 8:03as well. I also did get picked to be on a
- 8:11travel group. I sing and play the piano.
- 8:14So I auditioned and I got picked.
- 8:16I got put in a group, but then COVID happened, so I never
- 8:20actually got to travel out. And that's something that I
- 8:23really, really, really I'm disappointed in because I think
- 8:26that probably would have been like the pinnacle, the absolute
- 8:29like best thing that I could have experienced through Crown.
- 8:33But sadly, I just, I didn't get to because of COVID and our
- 8:36groups didn't go out that year. And then the next summer, I just
- 8:40didn't feel like that's what I wanted to do.
- 8:42So I didn't audition again. But and then as far as friends,
- 8:48friendships are kind of different there and kind of the
- 8:51groups that you are around, I would say I was in one of I was
- 8:56in one of the groups where it was kind of like crowns, like
- 9:00top, top dogs. You know, they, they definitely
- 9:03have like their students that they rely on more than the
- 9:06others and that are treated maybe a little bit more like
- 9:10adults than others. And I would say that's one of
- 9:13the groups that I got into and that was because of who I was
- 9:15dating at the time. So it's definitely kind of like
- 9:19who you know there and what and even relationships who you end
- 9:24up getting in a relationship with has a lot to do with who
- 9:28you're around. Like obviously who you're around
- 9:30and kind of how they view you and as and they being like
- 9:34administration. So who your friends are are a
- 9:38big deal because if you're friends with someone that they
- 9:40don't really view as a top dog person, they're not really going
- 9:45to view you as that either. So relationships and friendships
- 9:49are definitely a big deal there. 11 quick follow up you said the
- 9:54D word dating this is not an ifb word is courtship.
- 10:00I will say they did use the term dating and they did use the term
- 10:04like boyfriend, girlfriend. I don't know that I didn't
- 10:08technically heard the word courtship much.
- 10:11I mean, I know that there's like students that would come and
- 10:15they would be like, you know, my family believes in courting or
- 10:17whatever. But I will say that the staff
- 10:20there did use the term dating so.
- 10:23What was the classes like? Again, me and Brett were asking
- 10:26from outsiders. We were not a part of Crown.
- 10:29What were the classes like? Were they professional?
- 10:31Did you learn a lot or was it just like a Bible class that
- 10:33you'd have in Christian School or, or what was that like?
- 10:37So obviously, no matter what, no matter what your degree is in or
- 10:44what you're studying, you're obviously going to have the
- 10:47Bible classes. And one of the big things that
- 10:50that about Crown is that they have the, you know, the trades
- 10:52program. So even if you're in school for
- 10:56HVAC or mechanics, you're still going to have those Bible
- 10:59classes. I originally went out, my
- 11:03associates was in like it's like a pre nursing program.
- 11:07So it was a lot of science classes and things like that.
- 11:10Obviously the first year was a lot of prereqs, so English
- 11:13classes and things like that. I would say that the Bible
- 11:17classes, there were several that I enjoyed and that I learned a
- 11:22lot in obviously growing up as a pastor's daughter.
- 11:26Like there were things that were just instilled in my mind as
- 11:28like a 5 year old and but it did, it did I, I learned a lot.
- 11:35Like I, I sometimes I went into it thinking like, I already know
- 11:38all this stuff. I already know the Bible
- 11:41doctrines and things. But there was a lot that I did
- 11:44like learn and that I do appreciate.
- 11:48And the other classes as far as like science and things.
- 11:54There was one science teacher there.
- 11:56He's not there anymore. He was a, he's a doctor, a
- 11:59genius, absolute genius of a man, very smart, worked in
- 12:04different countries, has published things in magazines.
- 12:08I mean, he's an amazing doctor, amazing scientist.
- 12:12He's no longer there. But I will say the time that I
- 12:15was there, he was very, as far as like the science that I was
- 12:20in classes I was in. He was very just knowledgeable
- 12:24and taught well. I believe he taught in other
- 12:28like public universities and things.
- 12:30There's another science doctor there.
- 12:32He was a heart surgeon, heart doctor I believe in like Africa.
- 12:38So I mean, they had, you know, they had people that were
- 12:42qualified. I think the problem is that they
- 12:46were, they weren't just professors, they were also staff
- 12:49members of the church. And sometimes like, you know,
- 12:53we'd be waiting in a science class and then we'd get an
- 12:55e-mail being like, oh, class is cancelled because it's a, it's a
- 12:58busy week at the church or whatever, you know.
- 13:02So I think yes, they were good professors and things.
- 13:06They just had other responsibilities.
- 13:10And sometimes I think it would like overlap into, you know, our
- 13:13classes and things like that. Whenever there, like I said,
- 13:17there would be a busy week or a big conference or things like
- 13:19that, classes would get canceled.
- 13:20And that's because this the our professors were also church
- 13:24staff, if that makes sense. So.
- 13:28Yeah. So me and Brett, we both come.
- 13:30Brett came from house and a church there.
- 13:33He I went to champion in Arkansas.
- 13:36And one of the things that sort of our ideas we've been walking
- 13:40through these different colleges is the different cultures of
- 13:43each college. What would the culture of crown
- 13:47as far as their modesty, the music, the separation?
- 13:51And how did that personally affect you and your experience
- 13:55with that with with the college? I mean, I would say a lot of
- 14:02things would align with Hiles. As far as the music, a lot of
- 14:06the music I honestly enjoyed. There was some that I would
- 14:09consider like High Church that would be like a little much for
- 14:13me. But for the most part, I really
- 14:15enjoyed their music, especially in like the college setting
- 14:20because it was a little, I wouldn't say, I don't want to
- 14:22say laid back, but it wasn't like a church service.
- 14:26It was more Southern gospel kind of even like bluegrass sea
- 14:31sometimes. So I did enjoy the music as far
- 14:35as the modesty, you know, I think maybe a little less strict
- 14:41than Hiles I would say. I remember even I I got in
- 14:47trouble a few times for like dress code and things like that,
- 14:50but never anything like super, super major.
- 14:55I know with certain things, Pastor Sexton, he was alive at
- 14:59the time, He was more strict on certain things like lanyards
- 15:05hanging out of guys, pockets or a big no no for him.
- 15:10They, you know, if they saw guys wearing tighter pants than
- 15:14usual, they would get, you know, call them out and Chapel
- 15:17services. The girls.
- 15:21I mean, it's the same IFIFB rules if that's what you want to
- 15:26call it across the board, you know, knee length skirts and
- 15:33dresses. And obviously they did.
- 15:35I don't know if Hiles does basketball shorts.
- 15:37Crown does allow basketball shorts for girls for like
- 15:41activity stuff. And sometimes that was like
- 15:44frowned upon by like other, you know, like higher like some of
- 15:48the girls would be like we're not allowed to wear basketball
- 15:50shorts. We just wear the culottes or
- 15:51things like that. So but that was one thing that
- 15:55crown did allow and again, those had to be like knee length.
- 16:01I do feel like they were strict on the girls with modesty.
- 16:06The boys like the they could wear their shorts a bit shorter
- 16:10than the girls. So they definitely were stricter
- 16:13on girls than boys. But I would say it was not
- 16:16anything. Nothing more out of the ordinary
- 16:19than any other like IFB college I'd say.
- 16:23Now, before I ask the next question, you brought up Pastor
- 16:27Sexton, can you tell us a little bit about your impression of him
- 16:33and and what you thought of what you thought of him?
- 16:37Initially I was very, I guess impressed the first time I went
- 16:44as a sophomore in high school. He was very kind, talk to my
- 16:49family. I remember he even like gave us
- 16:52a book for free and like had signed it and stuff.
- 16:54And I mean, of course it was college days and there was
- 16:58hundreds of people on campus. So that was, I feel like that
- 17:00was expected. But if you were to ask me now, I
- 17:06would say that I don't necessarily have the most
- 17:12respect for him because of just of a personal like run in.
- 17:16I don't even want to say run in. Just of a personal experience
- 17:18that I had with him and the how the conversation went and the
- 17:21way that it make me feel made me feel.
- 17:24That's just something that I have not been able to get over.
- 17:27But do I think he did amazing things on his time here on
- 17:31earth? Yes, I do.
- 17:32I, I respect the fact that he built a college from the ground
- 17:35up. I respect the fact that he has
- 17:37campuses, you know, in England. And I, I respect that like
- 17:41fully, but just because of a conversation that we had and how
- 17:46that went and how I just, and certain things that he has said.
- 17:53And I think that might be due to the fact that he was getting
- 17:55older too. He was more vocal and maybe a
- 17:58little bit less tactful than he was in the beginning of his
- 18:02ministry. So I don't want to just say that
- 18:04he was a terrible person because I don't believe that.
- 18:06I think he did amazing things and I believe God used him.
- 18:09But I do think that sometimes, like I said, I just think
- 18:15sometimes he wasn't as tactful with the college students as
- 18:19maybe he could have been. Well, let's let's go here.
- 18:24What were there ever moments where you felt tension between
- 18:27like your personal convictions and the expectations that were
- 18:32placed on you at Crown? Like you were made to do things,
- 18:36but on the inside you're thinking, well, this, this may
- 18:39not be the best or this, this doesn't match up with what I
- 18:42believe or go into that for us. Right.
- 18:47So I think when I first got there, like I said, I grew up
- 18:49very in a strict household, very IFB, very sheltered.
- 18:55So when I first got there, I would say I didn't feel that at
- 19:00all. I was like, oh, I'm used to
- 19:01this. This is what I've grown up, this
- 19:03is normal, this is etcetera, etcetera.
- 19:06And then I think as time went on, and I wouldn't even say like
- 19:12is things that like personal convictions, I would say is more
- 19:15like preferences, like, you know, they, you know, no going
- 19:20to the movies there. And well, that's something that
- 19:23I actually grew up doing. So that was like one thing that
- 19:28Oh, we can't go do that this weekend because we're not
- 19:30allowed to. And even just, I don't even want
- 19:34to say like again, convictions or even preferences.
- 19:38It was just things that like, in my opinion, were like silly,
- 19:42like girls weren't really supposed to go anywhere by
- 19:45themselves. Like if you were going to
- 19:47Walmart, you had to bring another girl with you.
- 19:49Even though Walmart was 5 minutes down the road and I
- 19:52needed to grab one thing, technically I could have gotten
- 19:55in trouble by doing that. So I think sometimes things.
- 20:01And I think it was those little things that eventually became
- 20:04like too much because once you when you have like a bunch of
- 20:07little things that you're like, this is aggravating.
- 20:09Like I'm an adult, I'm 20 years old.
- 20:11Why can I not go to Walmart by myself?
- 20:13Why am I not allowed to go to the gym?
- 20:15Like, you know, things like that.
- 20:17I think that's when it's kind of like, you know what, maybe I
- 20:20don't fully see eye to eye here, maybe I don't.
- 20:23Is this the best thing for me? Like, am I happy here?
- 20:27Like having to change who I am based off their rules and what
- 20:32they want us to do. And I think that's ultimately
- 20:35when I was like, I think I would be happier not here anymore.
- 20:41I've got a follow up question at at How's Anderson?
- 20:46They always made us feel like we were kids at camp and.
- 20:49Not like. Functioning adult, you never get
- 20:53that feeling. Yes, a lot, actually.
- 20:59There's one person in particular who is not there anymore who
- 21:04made everyone feel that way. He was a staff.
- 21:07He was he was actually over student life.
- 21:13And I don't know if I'm allowed to like, say who it is.
- 21:17So it's actually OK. So it was actually Pastor
- 21:20Sexton's son. His name is Shannon Sexton and I
- 21:25have no problem saying that he had no business doing what he
- 21:29was doing because he was extremely rude, extremely
- 21:34disrespectful to students, extremely mean.
- 21:40I have several stories about that.
- 21:42My sister has several stories about that.
- 21:45My sister went toe to toe with him once in the hallway and he
- 21:49just looked at her and walked away because my sister was like,
- 21:51I'm had I've had enough of how he's treating us like children
- 21:55and the things he's saying. And she finally said something
- 21:58back and he didn't he walked away.
- 22:01But he was one that really, when I was there, made you feel like
- 22:06a child. And then even like, if you were
- 22:11going anywhere further than 40 minutes away, I think you had to
- 22:16have your parents text administration and be like, I
- 22:20give my child permission to go to Pigeon Forge today on
- 22:24Saturday. Even if your family was in town,
- 22:27like if my parents were in town visiting me and I wanted to go
- 22:30stay, you know, at the Airbnb with them instead of my dorm
- 22:33room, my parents would still have to text and give permission
- 22:38for me to stay with them. And then, you know, we weren't
- 22:42allowed to go home on the weekends unless it was a set
- 22:45break. We weren't like if I just wanted
- 22:48to go home to see my family on a weekend, I was not allowed to do
- 22:53that. So I didn't really like that
- 22:56either. And that was something my
- 22:57parents didn't like either. You know, they always, they had
- 23:00things about Crown they liked, but that was one thing they
- 23:02didn't like, they didn't feel, they didn't like feeling like
- 23:06they were being overstepped as the parent.
- 23:08Because I mean, when I got there, I was 18 years old.
- 23:12So there were things that I, that I, you know, respected them
- 23:20and still ask them about and they helped me with.
- 23:22But Crown kind of like put a cut on that and was like, it was
- 23:26almost like they wanted to be your parent a little bit.
- 23:28But then they would also be like, don't have your mommy and
- 23:32daddy call us complaining about you have your washer and dryers
- 23:37not working in your dorm. We don't want to hear from them.
- 23:41So I don't know. It was kind of like weird
- 23:44because they would want your parents approval, but then they
- 23:46wouldn't want your parents to call and complain about
- 23:49something. So it was just, I don't know,
- 23:51that was aggravating. I can sympathize with both of
- 23:55those things that you I, I was raised where we went to movies,
- 24:00we swam together as guys and girls, like all those were great
- 24:03things. And then we went to champion and
- 24:05it's like, oh, you can't do this anymore.
- 24:07But they said one thing about leaving and having to get
- 24:11permission. So my wife lived in Hot Springs.
- 24:14She was a, a kid in the school, raced to the bus ministry,
- 24:17reached to the bus ministry, went to the college.
- 24:21And so her first year, her dad made her stay on campus.
- 24:24And so that Thanksgiving she had put in a request to go home for
- 24:28Thanksgiving, which is still in Hot Springs.
- 24:31Mom and dad go to church, everything.
- 24:33And her past was rejected because she had too many days
- 24:38away from the college. And so I, I thought that was
- 24:41hilarious. You know, that that was sort of
- 24:44the, the mindset they had that even even local people couldn't
- 24:46even go home. So thinking.
- 24:50Go ahead. I was just going to say it's as
- 24:52bad as it is for the students in general.
- 24:55It's even worse for the girls. And I saw that and I always felt
- 25:01sorry for these girls that at how's Anderson, you had to have
- 25:05three girls in a car to leave and one of them had to be an
- 25:09approved junior or senior. And so always thought that, you
- 25:13know, those girls are just, they're stuck at the campus,
- 25:16They can't go anywhere, they can't do nothing.
- 25:18I always felt sorry for them. Yeah, there's definitely.
- 25:21I would agree that the I don't really even know what you would
- 25:25call it. I guess the difference in rules
- 25:29between the boys and the girls was something that made all the
- 25:33girls on campus upset. I wouldn't say all because there
- 25:36was some girls that were like ride or die.
- 25:38What the rule says, we're not going to question it, but for
- 25:41the most part girls would get upset about it because the boys
- 25:45were allowed to go to the gym. Girls were not allowed to go to
- 25:49the gym. Boys could ride, go wherever
- 25:51they want by themselves, like at not my the guy I was dating at
- 25:57the time wasn't a resident assistant or RA.
- 26:00And like, he would let if his guys were hungry, you know, that
- 26:03he would let them leave past curfew and go to the Taco Bell.
- 26:06But if you were to ask a girl, RA, hey, can I go get something
- 26:10to eat? I'm starving.
- 26:11They'd be like, sorry, it's curfew.
- 26:14So yeah, the difference between the guys and the girls is
- 26:17there's, there's it was definite.
- 26:19It was. It was obvious.
- 26:20Yeah. And I think that's widespread
- 26:22among most IP colleges. And well, we're going to skip #5
- 26:27we're going to number six. What was the ultimate decision
- 26:30that sort of led you to never to not go back to a crown?
- 26:33Was this like a turning point decision?
- 26:35Like immediately, hey, we're not going back or what gradual
- 26:38shift. I know you said COVID came in.
- 26:40So I don't know if that was part of it.
- 26:42What was what was your experience of not going back?
- 26:46So I had graduated with my associates and then I was going
- 26:50to go back and finish my bachelor's and I'd gone back
- 26:54that fall semester and my sister was actually there at that
- 26:58point. So we were living together and I
- 27:01loved having my sister there. But then I think I brought it up
- 27:06earlier. There was a conversation with
- 27:09me, Pastor Sexton, and the guy that I was dating at the time.
- 27:13And after that conversation, I almost had my parents come pick
- 27:16me up that night. Actually, my I called my parents
- 27:20and my mom was like, if you tell me to come pick you up because I
- 27:22didn't have my car with me at the, or did I?
- 27:25I might, I might have had my car at that point, I can't remember.
- 27:27But regardless, my parents were like, if you tell us to come get
- 27:32you right now, I will come get you.
- 27:34So and then I ended up saying it's fine, I'm going to stay.
- 27:39I'm going to finish out the semester because I don't want to
- 27:41lose the credits that you guys have paid for.
- 27:44So I stayed until December and then after that semester I
- 27:49stayed at home and finished online.
- 27:54OK, well let me ask you this. If a high school senior asked
- 27:58you whether they should attend Crown or not, they came to you
- 28:02right now. They asked you this question.
- 28:04What would you tell them? I would say it depends on what
- 28:10you want to do with your life because I think if you want to
- 28:16be in the ministry, if you want, especially if it was a, a male,
- 28:20if you want to be a preacher, a pastor, a missionary, or if
- 28:25you're a girl who wants to be a youth pastor's wife, like you
- 28:28just want to be a stay at home mom, you have no interest.
- 28:32And you know, really, you know, you don't have any interest in
- 28:36having a nine to five job. You just want to, you know, be
- 28:40in the ministry and that kind of thing.
- 28:42I would say 100% go for it. I would say that you're not
- 28:49going to be steered wrong as far as the ministry goes.
- 28:55I would say I would. I would have to be honest and
- 28:59say, are you used used to these rules?
- 29:02Is it someone like me that grew up wearing certain things and
- 29:06having certain rules? Or is it someone from a public
- 29:08school who heard about this Christian college at a church
- 29:13service? Because that's a, that's a big
- 29:16factor. So what was your like?
- 29:18What's their background like? Because if it's someone who's
- 29:21not used to, you know, those dress standards and a, a curfew
- 29:26and things like that, it's probably not going to go well
- 29:28for you. But if it's someone who grew up
- 29:31like that and they have a desire to be in the ministry, then I
- 29:35would say go for it. I think if you have a desire to,
- 29:39my sister went there and she finished out all four years with
- 29:44her teaching. She did education.
- 29:47There's still some hoops you're going to have to jump through if
- 29:50you plan on teaching in a public school.
- 29:51And I think that's something that they don't tell you upfront
- 29:54because there's a lot, a lot of girls that go there for
- 29:57education and a lot of them do teach in private Christian
- 30:01schools. So, you know, it's it if you
- 30:03don't have a teaching license, that's fine that a license is
- 30:05not required to teach in a private school.
- 30:08But if you have the desire to teach in a public school, I
- 30:10would say just go to a Community College, go to a university and
- 30:15go to online and get it there. Because right now, my sister's
- 30:19having to jump through hoops to get her licensure, and she's
- 30:22going to have to end up getting a master's degree now.
- 30:26And so yes, it's a good school, But if you plan on having a
- 30:35career that's not just ministry, I would say maybe do some
- 30:40research before you put your money into it because you don't
- 30:44want to be done with a degree. And then sit back and say, well,
- 30:49I kind of just wasted some money because I didn't really know all
- 30:53the insurance and outs of it, I guess.
- 30:55Yeah, we had a friend, Ashley Wynn, who recently went through
- 30:59that same experience. And basically her degree was
- 31:02just a piece of paper and I can redo all four years.
- 31:06She couldn't find a college that would even accept her degree or
- 31:10accept her classes. There was no syllabuses they
- 31:13could pull to. And then and it was it was
- 31:16difficult. And so she just had to redo her
- 31:18entire education experience and just graduate.
- 31:22Yeah, My, my brother, when he was in high school, he did a
- 31:26dual enrollment class. And this is something that I
- 31:28think they should be open and honest about too, and they're
- 31:31not. He did a dual enrollment class
- 31:34for like it was like a English comp class or something like
- 31:37that. He did it in high school.
- 31:39He finished it, got an A in it, did really well.
- 31:42And then he actually goes to Mississippi State University and
- 31:47that credit that he had from Crown would not transfer over to
- 31:51Mississippi State because they were they were like, this is
- 31:53like a high school level course. So they did not accept it and he
- 31:57had to end up redoing it or something.
- 31:59So yeah, I would just say even even the dual enrollment, if
- 32:03that's something you're doing through them, like definitely
- 32:05research and ask questions and ask if you plan on going to
- 32:08another university, like ask questions.
- 32:10Are you guys going to accept this?
- 32:11Because a lot of the time the answer is going to be no.
- 32:14Yeah. Well, Brooke, I know that you
- 32:17are busy. You're teaching right now today
- 32:19and you've got got to go get or are there any final words that
- 32:23you have for anyone that may be listening and then we'll we'll
- 32:26sign off for today. I just think that kind of what
- 32:30I've said, like I don't, I'm definitely not anti Christian
- 32:34college, but if it was my own child, I would I would
- 32:38definitely. And they had interest in a
- 32:40Christian college. It's never something that I
- 32:41would say, no, you're not doing that.
- 32:44That's a bad. I would never say it's a bad
- 32:46idea because I don't think Christian college is a bad idea.
- 32:49I just think it all depends on your situation because yes, and
- 32:54I think people say Christian college is going to protect you,
- 32:57but I'm going to be honest that there's a lot you can get away
- 33:00with, a lot that people did get away with, a lot that people
- 33:03were introduced to there that I mean, it's just the same as any
- 33:07other. Are there people like, you know,
- 33:09partying and things like that? Not really.
- 33:13So yes, I guess in a sense you are protected, but there's,
- 33:17there's ways to the world finds itself into any place and
- 33:22there's going to be people that are bad influences anywhere you
- 33:25go. So I think if, like I said, if
- 33:27you're ministry minded and that's what you want to do, I
- 33:29would say go for it. But if you plan on doing
- 33:35anything as far as a career and you're looking into it, just do
- 33:38your research, 100%. Do your research, ask questions
- 33:42because you do not want to be in a place at the end of your four
- 33:46years and be upset that you've wasted money and now you're
- 33:49having to basically start over. So that'd be my biggest advice
- 33:53is if if you plan to go to Christian college, just do your
- 33:55research that you're going to be set once you're done in those
- 33:58four years. Absolutely.
- 34:01Well, thanks for coming on. Thanks for sharing today.
- 34:03Thank you. For having me.
- 34:05Absolutely. Thank you for being on.
