- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome into Jags am here October twenty sixth, Kai, Nannie Stevens,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Brian Sexton, John Oser. We're getting ready for Steelers week
- 0:23Speaker 1: and it's our last game before the bye, so we
- 0:25Speaker 1: have to focus on this one and not get ahead
- 0:27Speaker 1: of ourselves, right, not in vacation mode yet. We're gonna
- 0:31Speaker 1: talk a little bit more in depth. We're gonna get
- 0:33Speaker 1: one of our insiders in here to talk Steelers, but
- 0:36Speaker 1: we wanna talk about our big things first, and first
- 0:38Speaker 1: big thing is gonna be Tomlin. Mike Tomlin has been
- 0:41Speaker 1: the coach in Pittsburgh quite some time now and with
- 0:44Speaker 1: him comes his reputation, and we got to hear a
- 0:47Speaker 1: little bit from him, and Doug talked about his relationship
- 0:50Speaker 1: with Tomlin and what he's known for.
- 0:52Speaker 2: John, I know Mike pretty well, and I've coached against him,
- 0:56Speaker 2: you know, several times now and in a lot of
- 0:59Speaker 2: respect for him and what he's done there. Gosh, as
- 1:02Speaker 2: you mentioned, he's won a lot of football games, you know,
- 1:05Speaker 2: double digit wins, you know, most of his career, and
- 1:09Speaker 2: that that's pretty impressive. You know, obviously championships and things
- 1:13Speaker 2: of that nature. And you know, he does a great
- 1:15Speaker 2: job of just of just getting getting his teams prepared.
- 1:21Speaker 2: The way he messages his team, you know, motivates his team.
- 1:25Speaker 2: They play hard, they play physical, they're fast. It's a
- 1:29Speaker 2: disciplined group and they always have been. And you know,
- 1:33Speaker 2: it's just it's kind of the tradition of the Pittsburgh
- 1:36Speaker 2: Steelers over time, you know, through history, and he's he's
- 1:40Speaker 2: definitely carried that, carried that on in his.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Career there as the head coach.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Brian, What's one thing that comes to mind for you
- 1:46Speaker 1: when you think of Mike Tomlin.
- 1:47Speaker 4: He fitted effortlessly. He was a young coach guy when
- 1:50Speaker 4: they hired him fifteen years ago, coming off with Tony
- 1:53Speaker 4: Dungee staff and Dungee obviously had ties to Pittsburgh, so
- 1:56Speaker 4: they knew what they were getting. But in all these
- 1:59Speaker 4: years they've had Chuck Nole, Bill Kauer and Mike Tomlin,
- 2:02Speaker 4: and he has he has won a super Bowl, just
- 2:05Speaker 4: like Bill Cower, not four like Nole, but he's he's
- 2:08Speaker 4: been a really good coach and kept the Steelers' mentality
- 2:11Speaker 4: alive right that run the ball, play great defense. I
- 2:15Speaker 4: just he's been tremendous and just seamless in the Pittsburgh mentality.
- 2:21Speaker 5: Well, you think of the Steelers, and the first thing
- 2:24Speaker 5: you always think of is, in fact, they've had three
- 2:26Speaker 5: coaches in fifty four years. And so when I think
- 2:29Speaker 5: of Tomlin, I think of the organization and how they
- 2:32Speaker 5: are able to commit to an idea. And with Tomlin,
- 2:38Speaker 5: when the organization does that and you know they are
- 2:41Speaker 5: committed to you, if they know you're doing the right thing,
- 2:45Speaker 5: and if they know you're coaching to sort of this standard,
- 2:48Speaker 5: then you can succeed. And with the Steelers, so much
- 2:51Speaker 5: of it is I kind of compare him to the
- 2:53Speaker 5: way the Titans have played lately, where you know they're
- 2:56Speaker 5: going to get the maximum out of what they have
- 2:59Speaker 5: on the field. They're gonna play to a certain way.
- 3:01Speaker 5: And I always say with the Titans, you know, I'm
- 3:03Speaker 5: not just search. I'm not so sure it's true this year,
- 3:06Speaker 5: but they know how Rabel wants them to play. Well,
- 3:10Speaker 5: there's never any doubt with the Steelers what the expectations
- 3:14Speaker 5: are in the NFL. If you've got everybody working on
- 3:17Speaker 5: the same page, everybody knowing how you're supposed to play,
- 3:21Speaker 5: you're gonna be in a lot of close games. And
- 3:22Speaker 5: if you believe in the coach, you're gonna win some
- 3:24Speaker 5: of those games. So they really speak to that ideal.
- 3:27Speaker 5: I mean, Jaguars fans are tired of hearing that after
- 3:31Speaker 5: thirty years, but to me, that's the model franchise. Yeah,
- 3:34Speaker 5: and even with New England having their run. I was
- 3:37Speaker 5: with the Colts for ten years Pittsburgh. You always knew
- 3:41Speaker 5: that they were going to compete. They had an ideal,
- 3:43Speaker 5: they played to it, and Tomlin's fit right in there.
- 3:45Speaker 3: I was gonna say, that's exactly what it is.
- 3:47Speaker 4: The Steelers way has always been the same, always, and
- 3:52Speaker 4: he just his players love playing for him. He's a
- 3:55Speaker 4: lot of fun to watch when he's mad at a
- 3:57Speaker 4: press conference because he has no filter.
- 3:59Speaker 3: I think he's been great for the game.
- 4:00Speaker 5: And they also have the courage the Steelers do and
- 4:03Speaker 5: they always have not to. If Tomlin goes seven to
- 4:07Speaker 5: ten this year, there won't be oh my goodness, it's
- 4:11Speaker 5: the coach's fault. It's always the coach's fault. Well, sometimes
- 4:15Speaker 5: an organization a coward had slide years. Well, when the
- 4:18Speaker 5: coach's fault, there are other things going on. They have
- 4:22Speaker 5: the belief or whatever it is not to always blame
- 4:26Speaker 5: the coach, which it seems like most other franchise, I
- 4:30Speaker 5: want to blame the coach because the fans did.
- 4:32Speaker 4: And I can remember a time where it was tough
- 4:34Speaker 4: to sell tickets in Jacksonville, right, And I can remember
- 4:37Speaker 4: someone in Pittsburgh say they don't have that problem here, right.
- 4:39Speaker 3: So they don't make decisions.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Based on what do the fans want and will it
- 4:43Speaker 4: help them buy tickets next year? They always make football
- 4:46Speaker 4: based decisions, not marketing based decisions. And when you reach
- 4:49Speaker 4: that point, and not every franchise does. In fact, if
- 4:51Speaker 4: you do, when you reach that point, you can be
- 4:54Speaker 4: patient with your coach and know what he's doing.
- 4:56Speaker 1: And I think that's huge. You guys mentioned that relationship
- 4:59Speaker 1: between ownership and coach. That doesn't happen everywhere. To have
- 5:02Speaker 1: that belief in your coach, and I think we like
- 5:04Speaker 1: to think that having the GM, the owner and Doug
- 5:08Speaker 1: on the same page here, that's how you start something
- 5:11Speaker 1: like that, having faith in everybody and all working together.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Our second big thing this week or this today, I
- 5:16Speaker 1: should say it's gonna be TJ. Watt because he's a
- 5:18Speaker 1: really big thing and he's a game wrecker. We heard
- 5:21Speaker 1: Mike tom when talking about Traylon being a game wrecker.
- 5:23Speaker 1: This is their version of that. Trevor Lawrence talked about
- 5:26Speaker 1: it yesterday.
- 5:28Speaker 6: And he's not just a pass rusher. He's a great
- 5:30Speaker 6: defensive player. I mean, he's good against the run, he's
- 5:32Speaker 6: good dropping in coverage. He just had a pick last
- 5:34Speaker 6: week against the Rams, dropping out underneath and zone. So
- 5:38Speaker 6: I mean, he's just an all around great player and
- 5:40Speaker 6: you got to always know where he's at. You gotta
- 5:42Speaker 6: have a plan for him. So it definitely puts some
- 5:44Speaker 6: stress on you. And then you look at the other
- 5:46Speaker 6: side and they got high Smith, who I played against
- 5:48Speaker 6: actually in college. You went to UNC Charlotte, which is
- 5:51Speaker 6: just funny seeing him again in just the career he's had.
- 5:53Speaker 6: I mean, I knew he was going to be a
- 5:54Speaker 6: studg when we played him his senior year there he
- 5:57Speaker 6: was giving us fits.
- 5:57Speaker 3: So it's both those guys. Really.
- 6:00Speaker 6: That's what makes a challenging too, is you don't have
- 6:02Speaker 6: to worry about just one guy.
- 6:03Speaker 3: You got one on each edge.
- 6:05Speaker 6: So it's a challenge and you know, we're gonna have
- 6:07Speaker 6: to have a great plan for it, and we will,
- 6:09Speaker 6: but you know, we're kind of working through all that
- 6:10Speaker 6: right now and it'll be it'll be a good battle Sunday.
- 6:14Speaker 1: John Trevor brings up there, it's not just TJ. Watt,
- 6:16Speaker 1: it'shih Smith on the other side too, and it's that
- 6:18Speaker 1: combination that can be difficult for certain offenses to deal
- 6:21Speaker 1: with well.
- 6:22Speaker 7: And they've always got one.
- 6:23Speaker 5: I mean thirty years have been covering the league and
- 6:25Speaker 5: it seems like, you know, it's not TJ.
- 6:28Speaker 7: Watt over there, it's somebody.
- 6:29Speaker 5: So again, I think that speaks to when they draft
- 6:33Speaker 5: a player like that, like TJ. Watt, they know exactly
- 6:36Speaker 5: what they want out of a player when they draft him,
- 6:38Speaker 5: and they draft him for spots, they draft him for fit.
- 6:41Speaker 5: He's been the perfect fit. Speak to your point, guy.
- 6:45Speaker 5: They really are built around their edge rushers ability to
- 6:49Speaker 5: get to the quarterback. The Jaguars are built overall defense,
- 6:54Speaker 5: good edge players, not necessarily we're gonna get to the
- 6:58Speaker 5: quarterback every time.
- 6:58Speaker 7: It's more of a team concepts.
- 7:00Speaker 5: So I don't know that it's almost like their polar
- 7:04Speaker 5: opposite ways to play good defenses these two teams. Because
- 7:08Speaker 5: the Jaguars are going to stop the run, a Steelers
- 7:10Speaker 5: are on a really a great run defense because.
- 7:11Speaker 3: They is amazing to hear well.
- 7:14Speaker 5: But they play at three to four and they have
- 7:16Speaker 5: committed to playing a lot of two five. Really, I mean,
- 7:20Speaker 5: they don't really emphasize stopping the run. They emphasize getting
- 7:23Speaker 5: you in enough bad situations that they can have their
- 7:26Speaker 5: edge wreshlers to get to the quarterback and force mistakes.
- 7:28Speaker 7: So they're a different kind of Steelers.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Tap.
- 7:31Speaker 4: There's no question there were times where you just you'd
- 7:33Speaker 4: slam your head into the line of scrimmage over and
- 7:35Speaker 4: over and over, and you'd leave the game with, you know,
- 7:38Speaker 4: eighteen rushing attempts for twenty nine yards. I mean, that's
- 7:40Speaker 4: how good they always used to be against that. I
- 7:42Speaker 4: understand they've changed things up a little bit. I watched
- 7:45Speaker 4: the game the Rams game last week and TJ. Watt
- 7:48Speaker 4: popped off the screen, so I went back just to
- 7:49Speaker 4: confirm it and watch the replay. And he is a
- 7:53Speaker 4: tremendous player because he can do so many different things.
- 7:57Speaker 4: It's not just chase the passer. It's dropped back in
- 7:59Speaker 4: coverage and still be an explosive guy, and he makes
- 8:02Speaker 4: everyone around him better. Ryan Clark is at the safety
- 8:05Speaker 4: he's on ESPN, said this week that he thought he
- 8:07Speaker 4: had a chance to be the greatest dealer of all time.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Just think about the great players they've had on that defense,
- 8:12Speaker 4: how many Hall of Famers, And you're talking about.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Well, is he as good as Joe Green? Well, if
- 8:16Speaker 3: you've got.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Ryan Clark suggesting that a guy who played for the Stealers,
- 8:19Speaker 4: who understands the mentality of that Steelers organization, it's a
- 8:23Speaker 4: worthy conversation, and that tells you what you're up against.
- 8:25Speaker 7: Yeah, I'm gonna say he's not John's all.
- 8:29Speaker 3: But well, I'm not saying he is.
- 8:31Speaker 4: I'm just saying if they're talking about former Steelers are
- 8:35Speaker 4: talking about it, that tells.
- 8:36Speaker 3: You what they think of the guy.
- 8:37Speaker 5: But he's I mean, yeah, I get it. The conversation.
- 8:41Speaker 5: It is interesting to have. And he's young, so he's
- 8:46Speaker 5: already got eighty eight sacks. I think in a Sack era.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Well, listen this way.
- 8:51Speaker 4: If at the end of his career he keeps playing
- 8:52Speaker 4: this way and he's a Hall of Famer, is he
- 8:55Speaker 4: worthy of having conversations?
- 8:56Speaker 3: Where does he belong to the greatest?
- 8:58Speaker 7: Sure?
- 8:58Speaker 3: Okay, well that's why I think what Ryan to say.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Let's go to our final big thing here today, terrible
- 9:03Speaker 1: towels it's a tough environment to play in Pittsburgh, and
- 9:07Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence talked about what it means to him to
- 9:09Speaker 1: go up there and play.
- 9:11Speaker 6: Wanted to check off the list like playing in cool stadiums,
- 9:14Speaker 6: historic places, and obviously Pittsburgh is just they got a
- 9:18Speaker 6: great I mean just their whole organization has like an
- 9:22Speaker 6: r aura around it.
- 9:23Speaker 3: That's really cool. When they're you know, they had.
- 9:25Speaker 6: Some obviously great players, some great teams. You always know
- 9:28Speaker 6: kind of what team, what kind of team Pittsburgh's gonna
- 9:30Speaker 6: have every year. I mean, super physical, great defense. Their
- 9:34Speaker 6: offense is playing really well. I mean that's just you
- 9:36Speaker 6: know what you're gonna get. So they're they're really consistent.
- 9:39Speaker 6: Coach Thomlins obviously done a great job there. But I'm excited.
- 9:42Speaker 6: I'm excited to play over there. We've played in some
- 9:44Speaker 6: hostel environments, you know, Kansas City, New Orleans. I think
- 9:48Speaker 6: those are up there, and this will be another one
- 9:51Speaker 6: that'll be a challenge and it'll be fun to play.
- 9:53Speaker 1: And John, what's it going to be like at Heinsfield
- 9:56Speaker 1: or should I say at a pressure stadium instead?
- 9:59Speaker 5: Well, when they get rolling, it's an impressive atmosphere. The
- 10:05Speaker 5: other side of that is when the Jaguars have been good,
- 10:09Speaker 5: they've gone up there and handled that atmosphere pretty well.
- 10:11Speaker 5: And I think this is a team. It's silly to
- 10:16Speaker 5: say you never worry about atmosphere because they're real in
- 10:19Speaker 5: the NFL.
- 10:19Speaker 7: But this team hasn't lost away from.
- 10:21Speaker 5: The city yet this year. They were a good road
- 10:26Speaker 5: team last year. It's never really bothered them. They didn't
- 10:29Speaker 5: win in Kansas City last year twice, but there's a
- 10:33Speaker 5: lot of teams that don't do that. I don't know
- 10:34Speaker 5: if that was the crowd as much as the team
- 10:35Speaker 5: you're playing. So it's intense when the Towels get rolling
- 10:40Speaker 5: when they start playing renegade and late in the game
- 10:44Speaker 5: they picked their spot to do it. But I don't
- 10:47Speaker 5: think that that is something I've seen teams get overwhelmed
- 10:51Speaker 5: by it.
- 10:52Speaker 7: I don't know that this Jaguars team will get.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Over by it.
- 10:54Speaker 3: No, I don't think so.
- 10:56Speaker 4: And Heinsfield is a great place to watch a game.
- 10:58Speaker 4: It's not like old Three Rivers. They lost something when
- 11:00Speaker 4: they left that old bull ring. You were not welcome
- 11:03Speaker 4: at Three Rivers Stadium. Right now, in Hinzfield, it has
- 11:06Speaker 4: more of a nice feel to it. You know, it's
- 11:08Speaker 4: a nicer stadium, but when they're playing well, it's a
- 11:12Speaker 4: tough place to win.
- 11:13Speaker 1: We'll have to see how things go down on Sunday
- 11:15Speaker 1: and stay with us here on jags Am. We're gonna
- 11:17Speaker 1: go cross over here as we talk to our Steelers
- 11:20Speaker 1: insider coming up after the break. Welcome back to Jagsam,
- 11:26Speaker 1: presented by Field's Auto Group Jacksonville, Step up to luxury
- 11:29Speaker 1: at Fieldsauto dot Com. Playing the Steelers this week, so
- 11:33Speaker 1: of course we have to go and talk to our
- 11:35Speaker 1: Steelers insider. Chris Carter is here with us today, and Chris,
- 11:39Speaker 1: we were talking a little bit yesterday about Mike Tomlin
- 11:42Speaker 1: because I love to hear from Mike Tomlin. He's always
- 11:44Speaker 1: a good time and he was calling Trayvon Walker a
- 11:46Speaker 1: wrecking ball. We were just talking about TJ. Watt, your
- 11:49Speaker 1: wrecking ball. So I know Mike Tomlin's not a huge
- 11:52Speaker 1: fan of identity, But how would you describe your team
- 11:55Speaker 1: because we see a lot of similarities between the two.
- 11:59Speaker 8: I mean, that's what I I did a lot of
- 12:01Speaker 8: talking about this week, is that I think this is
- 12:02Speaker 8: a mirror match in a lot of ways.
- 12:04Speaker 9: You have a young quarterback looking to prove himself.
- 12:06Speaker 8: You have a first round running back from a twenty
- 12:08Speaker 8: twenty one draft at Najie Harris and Travis Ada.
- 12:11Speaker 9: You have TJ.
- 12:12Speaker 8: Want and Alex high Smith the same way you have
- 12:14Speaker 8: John Walker and Josh Allen.
- 12:16Speaker 9: TJ.
- 12:16Speaker 8: Want has been, you know, he's put himself in that
- 12:19Speaker 8: conversation as one of the greatest defenders of all time.
- 12:21Speaker 8: Just this last week with that interception that you were
- 12:23Speaker 8: seeing there against.
- 12:24Speaker 9: The Rams, he became the only tailor, only other.
- 12:26Speaker 8: Player not named Lawrence Taylor to have seventy sacks seven
- 12:29Speaker 8: interceptions in his first seven seasons in the NFL. He's
- 12:32Speaker 8: at the same pace. He beats you in so many
- 12:34Speaker 8: different ways. The Rams even schemed a way to try
- 12:36Speaker 8: to take him and Alex Highsmith out. Either they were
- 12:38Speaker 8: getting the ball out quick or they were tripling double
- 12:40Speaker 8: teaming them to make sure that they couldn't get to
- 12:42Speaker 8: Matt Stafford.
- 12:43Speaker 9: And so when TJ.
- 12:44Speaker 8: Watt realized that, he said, Okay, you want a double team,
- 12:46Speaker 8: that's fine. I'm gonna drop back into coverage and figure
- 12:49Speaker 8: and wait for you to jump on that. So that's
- 12:51Speaker 8: where the defense has kind of been so far. They've
- 12:53Speaker 8: been relying on playmaking. There was literally a game they
- 12:55Speaker 8: won where both Alex Heisman and TJ. Watt scored touchdowns,
- 12:59Speaker 8: scored more touchdown than the Steelers offense in the game.
- 13:02Speaker 8: That's what they're trying to be right now. I think
- 13:04Speaker 8: the Jaguars they've had more success stopping to run than.
- 13:06Speaker 9: The Steelers so far.
- 13:08Speaker 8: But one thing that the Steelers are also doing, they're
- 13:10Speaker 8: coalescing a lot of new guys, a new linebacker corps
- 13:13Speaker 8: that they've brought in. Their defensive front has been missing
- 13:16Speaker 8: Cam Hayward all season and close closer and closer all
- 13:19Speaker 8: season long. They've been getting sharper on defense.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Chris, when you look at this offense, can you Pickett
- 13:25Speaker 1: still trying to figure things out? And you, guys kind
- 13:27Speaker 1: of reminiscent of the Jaguars last year where you're getting
- 13:30Speaker 1: down early and then he's doing Can you Pickett specifically
- 13:33Speaker 1: is doing great in the fourth quarter? What is it
- 13:35Speaker 1: about that? Is you just like when the stress is
- 13:37Speaker 1: there and he turns it on, or how is he
- 13:39Speaker 1: so good in the second half.
- 13:41Speaker 8: It's more like he doesn't freak out and he takes
- 13:45Speaker 8: what's in front of him, and it's so crazy. He
- 13:47Speaker 8: jumps from a passer rating of four to forty five
- 13:50Speaker 8: in the first quarter, which would be like half of
- 13:53Speaker 8: what the worst quarterback is doing right now in the NFL,
- 13:56Speaker 8: all the way up to one hundred and two in
- 13:58Speaker 8: the fourth quarter. That's how good he is in the
- 14:00Speaker 8: fourth where he makes smart decisions. That's the guy with
- 14:02Speaker 8: that I covered when he played at the University of Pittsburgh.
- 14:05Speaker 8: He would be clutch, though he would He want him
- 14:07Speaker 8: to be more consistent in the first quarter, and he
- 14:10Speaker 8: got more consistent in college. They're working on getting him
- 14:12Speaker 8: more consistent in the pros.
- 14:13Speaker 9: Can he Pickett though?
- 14:14Speaker 8: I think the biggest thing is that you're seeing with
- 14:17Speaker 8: the late fourth quarter plays. I think the game's slowing
- 14:19Speaker 8: down for him in those moments because he's putting it
- 14:21Speaker 8: on the line. He's kind of not thinking about just
- 14:24Speaker 8: not turning the ball over. He's thinking about, Hey, let
- 14:26Speaker 8: me go out there and make the play. And the
- 14:28Speaker 8: Steelers they're trusting him to do that. And I think
- 14:30Speaker 8: one thing that's really helping him, especially now, is the
- 14:32Speaker 8: return of Deontay Johnson, is number one receiver who came
- 14:35Speaker 8: back in that Rams game. Now he has two number
- 14:38Speaker 8: one guys in him and George Pickens that can line
- 14:40Speaker 8: up on either side of the ball and distract the
- 14:42Speaker 8: defense from being a focus on one particular receiver, which
- 14:46Speaker 8: could make for an interesting day.
- 14:47Speaker 9: So Kenny Pickett still coming along.
- 14:49Speaker 8: I think that he when he is at his best,
- 14:51Speaker 8: he is a He is a really good decision maker
- 14:53Speaker 8: who can take advantage of wearing the defense is trying
- 14:56Speaker 8: to take one thing away and exposes another opportunity.
- 15:00Speaker 9: And that's what the Steelers want him to be.
- 15:01Speaker 8: Mike Tommins said, that's who they saw at Pitt, that's
- 15:03Speaker 8: who they're.
- 15:04Speaker 9: Hoping to get.
- 15:04Speaker 8: And he now has through eighteen starts, six game winning drives,
- 15:09Speaker 8: five fourth quarter comebacks.
- 15:11Speaker 9: They just got to hope that clutch play.
- 15:12Speaker 8: Expands into complete play and then they'll have their franchise quarterback.
- 15:17Speaker 5: People are so used to the Steelers as a run
- 15:20Speaker 5: centric team. Is there any sign that they're getting that
- 15:24Speaker 5: going or are they just going to be a passing offense.
- 15:27Speaker 8: Oh No, they're signs that they're getting that going, especially
- 15:29Speaker 8: in the second half against the Jaguars and against the Ravens.
- 15:33Speaker 8: The offensive line here, I think that's the biggest thing
- 15:35Speaker 8: in told in the Steelers back is.
- 15:37Speaker 9: Naji Harris and Jalen Warren. They're the one two punch
- 15:39Speaker 9: the Steelers one at running back. They're physical.
- 15:42Speaker 8: Naji Harris is more of a of a five and
- 15:44Speaker 8: eight yard guy that pushes the pile forward, who you.
- 15:47Speaker 9: Know makes guys miss.
- 15:48Speaker 8: Jalen Warren is more of the straight speed if you
- 15:50Speaker 8: make a one cut guy that can that can hurt
- 15:52Speaker 8: you if you give him a lane.
- 15:54Speaker 9: But the offensive line hasn't been great yet this year.
- 15:57Speaker 9: Broderick Jones, the guy they drafted in the first rounds.
- 15:59Speaker 8: He started against the raven was good, but when Dan
- 16:01Speaker 8: Moore Junior came back from his injury, he went back
- 16:03Speaker 8: to starting at left tackle and actually played well against
- 16:05Speaker 8: the Rams.
- 16:06Speaker 9: Mason Colett center.
- 16:07Speaker 8: He has been probably the weak leak of the offensive line,
- 16:09Speaker 8: but had his best game against the Rams, ironically when
- 16:12Speaker 8: he had Aaron Donald lining up across from Isaac Salemaldo
- 16:15Speaker 8: came in from the Eagles at left guard.
- 16:17Speaker 9: He's been huge. This group just needs to get on
- 16:19Speaker 9: the same foot, and that's where the Steelers want to be.
- 16:21Speaker 9: They want to be a balanced offense. They don't want
- 16:23Speaker 9: to be a pass happy unit. They want to be
- 16:25Speaker 9: able to run the ball.
- 16:25Speaker 8: Mike Collins said during the offseason to one of his draftees.
- 16:29Speaker 8: He said, we want we want to build a goon squad.
- 16:31Speaker 8: We want to be more physical than opponents. And that's
- 16:34Speaker 8: why Mike Tommins spoke so highly of Josh Allen, Javon Walker,
- 16:38Speaker 8: and that Jaguars defensive front, because he knows that's a
- 16:40Speaker 8: big challenge for his offense that's starting to figure out
- 16:43Speaker 8: how to.
- 16:43Speaker 9: Run the ball a little bit more consistently. But now
- 16:45Speaker 9: you're going up.
- 16:46Speaker 8: Against a bunch of big guys that aren't going to
- 16:47Speaker 8: make that easy. So look for the Steelers to try
- 16:50Speaker 8: to establish the run in this game, but not overly.
- 16:52Speaker 8: So they still want to run play acts and they
- 16:54Speaker 8: still want to give Kenny Picktt a chance to make plays.
- 16:56Speaker 9: But they want this to be a balanced attack on
- 16:59Speaker 9: the offense.
- 17:01Speaker 1: All right, Chris, thank you so much for joining us.
- 17:03Speaker 1: We'll see you on Sunday for the game.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Thanks.
- 17:06Speaker 9: I think you having me.
- 17:08Speaker 1: All right, guys, we'll be right back. We're gonna do
- 17:09Speaker 1: he will, he won't. He might As we look at
- 17:11Speaker 1: players that might break out in the game on Sunday.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Sudith is Florida's trusted and reliable moving company. Sudith is
- 17:18Speaker 1: proud to be the official moving partner of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 17:21Speaker 1: To get a guaranteed quote, you can visit suddith dot
- 17:23Speaker 1: com slash Jacks. We are back here. We've been talking
- 17:27Speaker 1: Steelers all morning and now we're gonna talk about the
- 17:30Speaker 1: Jaguars players we think will have an impact in this
- 17:32Speaker 1: game on Sunday. So, Brian, who are you looking at
- 17:35Speaker 1: to kind of break out on someone?
- 17:36Speaker 3: Well, I don't he's gonna break out.
- 17:37Speaker 4: It's Anton Harrison, the right tackle, and he will get
- 17:40Speaker 4: beat on Sunday because the Steelers are going to go
- 17:43Speaker 4: after the rookie right tackle. And you're talking about TJ. Watt,
- 17:46Speaker 4: who we have been featuring since the week began. So
- 17:50Speaker 4: he won't go let it bother him, and I think
- 17:52Speaker 4: he'll rebound and play well. He's been playing well the
- 17:54Speaker 4: last couple of weeks and he might be the real
- 17:58Speaker 4: bright spot on that offensive line right now because week
- 18:01Speaker 4: he keeps getting better.
- 18:03Speaker 7: I agree.
- 18:04Speaker 5: I went with Calvin Ridley and I guess he will
- 18:08Speaker 5: be fine. And I guess when I hear the buzz
- 18:13Speaker 5: about a wide.
- 18:15Speaker 7: Receiver, oh, he's not getting catches. He's not getting this.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Remember nineteen ninety nine, Brown, You've been here a minute.
- 18:21Speaker 5: About halfway through that season, I get a call from
- 18:23Speaker 5: a sports editor.
- 18:24Speaker 7: I need a story on what's wrong with Jimmy Smith.
- 18:26Speaker 4: Oh no, was that before we had the shifteen catch
- 18:30Speaker 4: game against the So I went to Jimmy and I said, Jimmy,
- 18:33Speaker 4: you know I know Jimmy for about five years, and
- 18:36Speaker 4: I said, hey, my erer wants me to do this story.
- 18:39Speaker 5: I've got no choice. When Tom tells you do something,
- 18:40Speaker 5: you gotta do it. When this guy tells me, okay,
- 18:42Speaker 5: we did it. He finished the season with sixteen hundred
- 18:45Speaker 5: yards receiving and one hundred and sixteen catches. Sometimes receivers
- 18:49Speaker 5: go through.
- 18:49Speaker 7: Lowles, is my point.
- 18:51Speaker 5: It's not up to them when they get the ball,
- 18:53Speaker 5: and sometimes when the defense takes you away, you can't
- 18:55Speaker 5: get it. He won't be bothered by this buzz. I
- 18:59Speaker 5: don't get the eye idea every receiver wants the ball.
- 19:02Speaker 5: But I don't get the idea that Calvin is overly
- 19:05Speaker 5: stressing about one or two games where he's not the
- 19:09Speaker 5: focal point in the offense and he might kind of breakout.
- 19:14Speaker 7: But you know this.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Almost goes back to he will, and I know I'm
- 19:17Speaker 5: breaking the code here, but he's still going to be
- 19:22Speaker 5: a huge part of this offense. He might be one
- 19:25Speaker 5: of those guys who's key even when he's not getting
- 19:27Speaker 5: the ball. Talking to the receivers yesterday, the other receivers.
- 19:29Speaker 7: Not him.
- 19:31Speaker 5: They need him on the field because he draws defenses.
- 19:35Speaker 5: They really need the whole group. But he's part of
- 19:39Speaker 5: a mosaic, if you will not necessarily. They are not
- 19:43Speaker 5: going to just feature Calvin Ridley in the offense. So
- 19:46Speaker 5: he's gonna have his moments, but he's not gonna be
- 19:50Speaker 5: every week the one hundred yard guy.
- 19:51Speaker 7: That's not the way the offense is gonna be set up.
- 19:52Speaker 4: I remember the storylines about Jimmy that year, and there
- 19:55Speaker 4: was a huge Sunday night game against the Saints.
- 19:56Speaker 7: Yeen ninety it was that week. By the way, it
- 19:58Speaker 7: was twelve catch up and.
- 20:00Speaker 4: Two hundred plus yards, and all of a sudden, the
- 20:02Speaker 4: rest of the year, he was the best receiver in
- 20:04Speaker 4: the AFC.
- 20:05Speaker 1: All right, for mine, I picked Devon Hamilton because I
- 20:08Speaker 1: think he will play this week. We've seen him working back.
- 20:11Speaker 1: He practiced in full last week. This week he is
- 20:13Speaker 1: practicing in full as well, and he has no medical
- 20:16Speaker 1: clearances to go. It's just whether you know, coaching and
- 20:19Speaker 1: him say they're ready to go. So I think he
- 20:21Speaker 1: will play. He might. What did I say? Why do
- 20:24Speaker 1: I do this every week? He won't look rusty, is
- 20:26Speaker 1: what I meant to say, because he's been practicing for
- 20:28Speaker 1: so many weeks, and I do not think. And I
- 20:31Speaker 1: think he might also have an impact in the sense
- 20:34Speaker 1: that what Devon Hamilton brings to this defense by cogging
- 20:37Speaker 1: up the middle, can help the pass rush, it can
- 20:39Speaker 1: help coverage, and I think he's someone we forget about
- 20:41Speaker 1: a little bit because the defense has been doing so good.
- 20:43Speaker 1: But the role that he plays is crucial for this
- 20:45Speaker 1: team as well.
- 20:46Speaker 3: He'll make it easier on Trayvon to get some of
- 20:47Speaker 3: those sacks. He'll push the pocket.
- 20:49Speaker 4: And force a quarterback to step slightly outside, and Trayvon
- 20:52Speaker 4: has been there. He's been on the outside and has
- 20:55Speaker 4: had his hands around the quarterback. My guess is wanting
- 20:58Speaker 4: to stay away from number forty one rebec it's gonna
- 21:00Speaker 4: drift into forty four.
- 21:01Speaker 7: Yeah, and he the pass rush as a whole. If
- 21:07Speaker 7: you listen to Josh Allen talk about it.
- 21:09Speaker 5: He's always talking about pass rushing as a team, having
- 21:12Speaker 5: a team plan. Devon Hamilton at the end of last year.
- 21:16Speaker 5: Think about Roy Robinson Harris, how good he was the
- 21:18Speaker 5: end of last year, Devon Hamilton was making a lot
- 21:20Speaker 5: of guys better. There's four or five guys they really
- 21:23Speaker 5: depend on to get to the quarterback. Devon Hamilton being
- 21:25Speaker 5: a note tackle. You don't think of that. One of
- 21:27Speaker 5: the reasons they signed him to the big deal in
- 21:29Speaker 5: the off season was he was showing he could impact
- 21:31Speaker 5: the pocket absolutely.
- 21:33Speaker 1: So we'll be happy to have him back hopefully this Sunday.
- 21:36Speaker 7: Stay with us.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We're gonna preview again Sunday's matchup and give you our
- 21:38Speaker 1: final thoughts on it. Jags fans, if you want customized

- 21:52Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I don't think I need to kind
- 21:55Speaker 6: of speaks for itself, you know, It's just it's like
- 21:59Speaker 6: one of those things. If you find ways to win,
- 22:01Speaker 6: you get you get criticism, and you don't win games,
- 22:03Speaker 6: you get criticism. So it's nature of the business. Obviously,
- 22:05Speaker 6: We're used to that here, so it doesn't it doesn't
- 22:07Speaker 6: bug us. But I think it's just, you know, it's
- 22:10Speaker 6: a good reminder just to everyone that you know, we
- 22:12Speaker 6: use all this. It's a chip on our shoulder. We
- 22:14Speaker 6: use it as fuel. That's really all. It was, nothing,
- 22:17Speaker 6: nothing more to it. I obviously those people are doing
- 22:19Speaker 6: their jobs too at the same time, so you understand it.
- 22:22Speaker 6: But I think it's good to have a little emotion
- 22:24Speaker 6: and remember remember kind of things that people say, and
- 22:27Speaker 6: we don't forget it when when people are backtracking in
- 22:30Speaker 6: a few weeks or into the season, whatever it is.
- 22:32Speaker 3: So that's all it was.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Seats.
- 22:35Speaker 6: Yeah, everybody does a little bit, maybe some more than others,
- 22:39Speaker 6: you know, others more than me probably, but definitely I
- 22:43Speaker 6: think you use all that and that's part of getting
- 22:45Speaker 6: our edge back as a team. That's what we've done
- 22:46Speaker 6: the last few weeks, and keep doing it.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Trevor's keeping receipts, guys, he's listening. He's got his own
- 22:52Speaker 1: bolt and board material. I like to hear from Trevor
- 22:55Speaker 1: when he gets a little saucy, and he was on
- 22:56Speaker 1: Twitter as well talking about you know, they're just going
- 22:58Speaker 1: to keep finding ways to win and let people analyze
- 23:01Speaker 1: the team the way they are thin.
- 23:02Speaker 4: When he's a little spicy and he's still just relaxed, right,
- 23:05Speaker 4: I mean right, it's not actually the podium yeah for him, right,
- 23:09Speaker 4: he's what is it?
- 23:10Speaker 3: What does my kids call him.
- 23:11Speaker 4: A chill even when he's fireing back.
- 23:15Speaker 7: Look, he knows he's good.
- 23:19Speaker 5: He but I think he has a perspective from being
- 23:22Speaker 5: in the spotlight for so long about sort of what
- 23:24Speaker 5: it all is. Uh, what's good I think is he
- 23:30Speaker 5: he's maintained his confidence and I do think he has
- 23:33Speaker 5: perspective on what's important. His stats aren't off the charts.
- 23:38Speaker 5: You can see why if people don't watch him, why
- 23:42Speaker 5: they make comments about him not being quote elite, because
- 23:46Speaker 5: his numbers aren't you know, forty touchdowns. But he's doing
- 23:50Speaker 5: what it takes to win. He's a quarterback of a
- 23:52Speaker 5: conference or of a division leading team, and I think
- 23:56Speaker 5: he knows that. I think he's one enough in his
- 23:59Speaker 5: life and he's he's got enough that he doesn't have
- 24:02Speaker 5: to prove himself.
- 24:03Speaker 7: He just has to win.
- 24:04Speaker 1: No ego.
- 24:05Speaker 7: We love that, Yeah, I mean I think there's an
- 24:06Speaker 7: element there to.
- 24:07Speaker 3: That with him.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Absolutely. All Right, guys, what do we think about the Sunday,
- 24:10Speaker 1: you think the win streak continues, or do we think
- 24:12Speaker 1: it's gonna be a tough one.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Well, I think it's gonna be a tough one. I
- 24:15Speaker 5: think they should win. I think they will win. And
- 24:18Speaker 5: it sounds like I'm talking about both sides of my mouth,
- 24:20Speaker 5: but I'm not. But I don't think. I mean, I
- 24:22Speaker 5: think it's gonna be tough because the Steelers are a
- 24:26Speaker 5: team that, especially at home, they are capable of winning weird.
- 24:31Speaker 5: They've won sort of weird all season, meaning they create
- 24:36Speaker 5: points with their defense and they can get you if
- 24:40Speaker 5: you make a key mistake.
- 24:41Speaker 7: And the one thing that you.
- 24:42Speaker 5: Worry about the Jaguars this year, they have put the
- 24:44Speaker 5: ball on the ground on offense. They have given teams opportunities.
- 24:48Speaker 5: They can't do that this week.
- 24:49Speaker 4: You can't have an eight consecutive third down conversion failure
- 24:53Speaker 4: rate like they did last week in New Orleans.
- 24:56Speaker 3: You got to stay on the field.
- 24:57Speaker 4: If the Steelers control the ball for thirty six minutes
- 24:59Speaker 4: like the Saints did, the Jaguars will not win the
- 25:01Speaker 4: bowl game. But if the Jaguars can stay on the
- 25:03Speaker 4: field and find some sort of rhythm, I think they've
- 25:05Speaker 4: got more offense than the Steelers do defense.
- 25:08Speaker 1: All Right, I'm gonna ride the wave. I think we'll
- 25:09Speaker 1: go in to the break on a five game.
- 25:12Speaker 7: I think they win the game absolutely, all.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Right, We'll have you covered for a full coverage on
- 25:16Speaker 1: a Sunday and then we'll be back with a full
- 25:18Speaker 1: recap here on Jagsam on Monday morning. Enjoy the game.
