- 0:09Speaker 2: The World's a Vegetal podcast. Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Someone clipped off the part anyway of Evan's recommendation of power.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Yeah, although a lot of people don't some people people
- 0:27Speaker 2: don't know ball. They don't think that you're genuine. They
- 0:30Speaker 2: can't believe like you didn't mention Mesh.
- 0:32Speaker 3: I think Drake may had a good rookie year, good
- 0:35Speaker 3: good rookie year.
- 0:36Speaker 2: You look at him as a son.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Evan does this on like he goes right onto the
- 0:40Speaker 3: next gen.
- 0:41Speaker 2: When he was doing it during the game. Yeah, next
- 0:42Speaker 2: to the game. I see him with his little thing.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Like like, what are you doing over there?
- 0:46Speaker 4: Evan?
- 0:46Speaker 3: This game do an exercise that I did with Mac
- 0:50Speaker 3: Jones and great.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I would never make you do no, no, no, not once
- 0:53Speaker 2: did Evan mentioned Pinpool yesterday. Moment was too big for
- 0:56Speaker 2: the young man.
- 0:58Speaker 4: See another one that you know, not ball Mill, that's
- 1:00Speaker 4: not that's not basic install.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, that's not basic install.
- 1:07Speaker 3: You got to be a ball in the okay, boy?
- 1:11Speaker 2: Is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:12Speaker 5: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals buy a Toyota
- 1:16Speaker 5: dot com.
- 1:19Speaker 2: The Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here at the Less Stadium.
- 1:24Speaker 2: They're still basking in the glow of the Mike Rabel
- 1:27Speaker 2: higher and uh, Evan, it's Paul, it's me, it's Matt
- 1:32Speaker 2: the booth. But I guess our show was on the
- 1:35Speaker 2: Pat McAfee show.
- 1:36Speaker 6: Briefly they were like, that was pretty cool, Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, this is what he knows.
- 1:43Speaker 6: Everybody knows.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It's the world's original.
- 1:45Speaker 3: But the reason they focused on Rabel and not.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Us, Yeah, I can't believe it, Hug. You know it
- 1:50Speaker 2: took a brand new head coach being hired for us
- 1:52Speaker 2: to make it to the big time. But no, it
- 1:54Speaker 2: was cool to see have.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Been made fun of on the McAfee show in the past.
- 1:59Speaker 6: That's right for some of us.
- 2:01Speaker 3: That would be me. I think he made fun of
- 2:04Speaker 3: my accident. Oh yeah, yeah, when was this during the
- 2:07Speaker 3: summer preseason games.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Yeah, you don't have really that much of an accident.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I mean it's there, but anyway, and I think it
- 2:14Speaker 3: was certainly not as bad as it was when I
- 2:16Speaker 3: went to buy I was inundated.
- 2:19Speaker 2: That was fun and thanks to one of our listeners
- 2:22Speaker 2: for helping me on that.
- 2:24Speaker 6: I know, Yeah I went and found it. Yeah, I
- 2:26Speaker 6: had to scrub through.
- 2:27Speaker 2: A little bit, but yeah, good stuff. Yeah, so that
- 2:30Speaker 2: was a big day on Monday. We talked a lot
- 2:34Speaker 2: about Tuesday, and we're going to continue talking about what's next.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Offensive coordinators, defensive coordinators, what's going on. Like right now,
- 2:44Speaker 2: all we know is Mike Rabel's the head coach.
- 2:48Speaker 6: I kind of like it, Like I like that he's
- 2:49Speaker 6: just kind of gone into the cave. We don't run
- 2:51Speaker 6: out here in any reports. And yeah, I'm sure they're
- 2:53Speaker 6: grinding away trying to put everything into place. But I
- 2:55Speaker 6: would assume, you know, like as teams get out of
- 2:58Speaker 6: the playoffs and the All Star Games start to happen,
- 3:00Speaker 6: you'll start to see guys cut loose, and you know,
- 3:03Speaker 6: then maybe you'll see some movement. I thought it'll be
- 3:05Speaker 6: the next stuff to start to fall.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Because the Senior Bowl and Shrine Bowl is the end
- 3:10Speaker 2: of January.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Ye, not next week, but the week.
- 3:12Speaker 2: After, so you got to send people there.
- 3:15Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I'm hoping that the head coach will
- 3:18Speaker 4: be there for us.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You think you think he should be there?
- 3:21Speaker 4: Yeah, well, if he's going to have as much of
- 3:23Speaker 4: a hand in personnel as what is being reported that
- 3:26Speaker 4: he's going to have a hand in personnel, then then yeah,
- 3:29Speaker 4: I think he should be there.
- 3:30Speaker 6: This chess plate down there was did you ask him
- 3:32Speaker 6: about that? I thought that was funny. I did get
- 3:33Speaker 6: his chest plate mobile start engaging with someone.
- 3:37Speaker 4: I'm not going to make a big deal out of
- 3:38Speaker 4: it if.
- 3:38Speaker 6: He's not there, but maybe he's getting engaged.
- 3:41Speaker 3: See what you did there.
- 3:43Speaker 2: So you know, my impression of those All Star games
- 3:48Speaker 2: is it's not first round people, it's the later round
- 3:51Speaker 2: guys that you are there for.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Yeah, usually there there might be some back end of
- 3:56Speaker 4: the first round guys that sneak in to the Senior Bowl.
- 4:00Speaker 4: For example, last year, Tyler Geiton, the tackle for the Cowboys,
- 4:04Speaker 4: was a Senior Bowl guy and he went right at
- 4:06Speaker 4: the you know, in the twenties, somewhere in the first round.
- 4:09Speaker 4: So sometimes you get those types of guys, but obviously
- 4:12Speaker 4: it's mostly seniors, so none of the early declares for
- 4:16Speaker 4: the most part, are there. And those are a lot
- 4:18Speaker 4: of the guys that go at the top of the draft,
- 4:20Speaker 4: right are the guys that are true juniors now Pennix
- 4:23Speaker 4: was there last year now that I'm trying to think
- 4:26Speaker 4: about it, but he was a quarterback, so that's a
- 4:28Speaker 4: little different. You're not you're wearing the red jersey, you're
- 4:30Speaker 4: not getting hit.
- 4:31Speaker 2: But I heard him with the shrine. They're bringing in
- 4:33Speaker 2: juniors now.
- 4:34Speaker 4: Or yeah, they're allowed, they're they're kind of allotting like
- 4:37Speaker 4: a certain number of spots to juniors now for the game,
- 4:42Speaker 4: just to get some of the hype, you know, for
- 4:45Speaker 4: the game up a little bit more by getting some
- 4:47Speaker 4: of the higher end guys.
- 4:49Speaker 6: Yeah, I was just looking at some of the names.
- 4:51Speaker 6: I found a website that had some of it, just
- 4:53Speaker 6: had him rank kind of the Senior Bowl guys, which
- 4:54Speaker 6: I mean, you guys all know Jalen Milroe, but you
- 4:57Speaker 6: know Nick Scouton, who's an edge, m Walter, Nolan d
- 5:02Speaker 6: l A.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of those like made like late Dan one. Yeah,
- 5:09Speaker 4: those late Day one, early Day two receivers and tackles
- 5:13Speaker 4: often go to Mobile to the Senior Bowl. So like
- 5:17Speaker 4: last year we saw you know Kingsley, Sue Mattia was
- 5:20Speaker 4: there and Tyler Geydon was there and you know those
- 5:22Speaker 4: types of players. So we'll see that again this year.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I mean, Sebastian Volmer rose up the ranks a little
- 5:29Speaker 2: bit performance at the senior.
- 5:31Speaker 6: Is it weird that Shuter Sanders is going to the
- 5:33Speaker 6: Shrine Bowl. That seems a little strange for you know,
- 5:35Speaker 6: arguably the top quarterback that.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Well it's at the Star in Dallas, so I think
- 5:42Speaker 4: that's a big part of it, not because of the
- 5:45Speaker 4: head coaching job, but just because of of the obvious
- 5:48Speaker 4: connection there.
- 5:48Speaker 7: So.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Uh, he committed early in the process to go to
- 5:52Speaker 4: the Shrine Bowl. So I'm not sure if he's going
- 5:54Speaker 4: to do anything. He might just be interviewing and meeting
- 5:57Speaker 4: with teams there. I don't know if he's actually going
- 5:59Speaker 4: to practic.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Is okay coaching search for other teams. I guess Aaron
- 6:04Speaker 2: Glenn has said the Jets are his number is his
- 6:06Speaker 2: number one destination? Yeah, oh yeah, yeah, yep uh.
- 6:14Speaker 3: And a lot of Ben Johnson to the Raiders talk
- 6:17Speaker 3: late because I thought, I wonder where that's coming from.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I don't know if it's coming from Ben Johnson.
- 6:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. I don't know where it's coming
- 6:25Speaker 3: from a.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Point because you know, when you look at the destinations
- 6:29Speaker 2: like the Raiders, you know, if I'm a head coach.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I'm looking at There's a lot of factors. Obviously money
- 6:35Speaker 2: is is a big one, but like what's their current status?
- 6:38Speaker 2: What do I think we can get to? Like where
- 6:41Speaker 2: where can we get And everybody mentions the facilities and
- 6:44Speaker 2: all that, and that's important, but not as important as
- 6:46Speaker 2: all the other stuff.
- 6:48Speaker 6: It's a weird roster when you got two tight ends,
- 6:50Speaker 6: I mean offensively, like you know, that's That's what's interesting
- 6:53Speaker 6: to me is how he would go there and what
- 6:55Speaker 6: the plan would be. It's it's kind of a blank slate.
- 6:57Speaker 3: I would say, I would wonder what their plan is
- 7:00Speaker 3: at quarterback because that's the number one thing I think.
- 7:04Speaker 3: I was kind of thinking Ben Johnson would be interested
- 7:07Speaker 3: in the Jacksonville job because Trevor Lawrence is a guy
- 7:11Speaker 3: that I'm guessing Ben Johnson probably feels like I can run.
- 7:15Speaker 3: He's he's got some experience already, you know, I can
- 7:18Speaker 3: sort of hit the ground running. I can help him
- 7:20Speaker 3: fulfill his potential. He's got some good weapons with the Raiders.
- 7:25Speaker 3: I don't think it's a bad situation, but you can't
- 7:29Speaker 3: argue that there's no quarterback there and it's been a
- 7:32Speaker 3: train wreck the I mean, the Jets are the punching
- 7:34Speaker 3: bag for everybody. The Raiders have been just as bad,
- 7:38Speaker 3: you know, say over the last fifteen years or whatever
- 7:40Speaker 3: you want to call it. I mean they really struggle.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Have they had a crack at a top quarterback in
- 7:45Speaker 2: the draft, because the Jets did, and they blew.
- 7:48Speaker 3: It multiple times. The Jets had Darnolds, the Jets had
- 7:53Speaker 3: Zach Wilson WI.
- 7:54Speaker 2: But have the Raiders had a crack at a top quarterback.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Since JaMarcus Russell. I can't think of one off the
- 8:01Speaker 4: top of my head that they've drafted high.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Yeah, they've just had a second round he was an
- 8:06Speaker 3: early second They were kind.
- 8:08Speaker 6: Of these free agent cast off guys.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Yeah, they've been going through.
- 8:11Speaker 4: I mean Derek Carr was the quarterback there for a
- 8:13Speaker 4: long time and he was a high second round pick,
- 8:16Speaker 4: but he was there for what eight years? Yeah, he's
- 8:21Speaker 4: been the guy there for a while.
- 8:22Speaker 2: So that's why I think maybe the Jets are a
- 8:24Speaker 2: little bit more looked at as a joke because they
- 8:28Speaker 2: had a shot at, you know, that some of the
- 8:31Speaker 2: top quarterbacks and they blew it.
- 8:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it's just hard I think for the team,
- 8:34Speaker 6: like the raiders where maybe you're always good enough to
- 8:37Speaker 6: not be in the top ten, but you're never bad
- 8:40Speaker 6: enough to get down into you know, into that one
- 8:42Speaker 6: where you probably get a chance and you're.
- 8:44Speaker 3: But they they have though, they've been dreadfully bad. Now
- 8:47Speaker 3: they haven't just bad drafting. They haven't taken the quarterbacks,
- 8:51Speaker 3: but they've had a lot of like bust first round picks.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Yeah, Darius Hayward Bay, JaMarcus Russell or like two of
- 8:59Speaker 4: the big a bus of all time.
- 9:01Speaker 3: But even go like recently Tyree Wilson. Yeah, it's been
- 9:05Speaker 3: kind of you know, I told you that it was
- 9:08Speaker 3: a top ten pick.
- 9:08Speaker 6: Rights were awful.
- 9:12Speaker 4: They Colon Ferrell, Yeah, that was the one I was. Yeah,
- 9:16Speaker 4: they just started to prioritize like power off the edge
- 9:20Speaker 4: and and like those guys just were were not high
- 9:23Speaker 4: end pass rushers. You know, they would just push people
- 9:25Speaker 4: around and stuff like that. And you see that in
- 9:27Speaker 4: the college game a lot. But then when you get
- 9:29Speaker 4: to the pros and you're playing against adults, it's not
- 9:31Speaker 4: as easy to bull rush guys and move guys and
- 9:34Speaker 4: things like that.
- 9:35Speaker 2: And then McCarthy it looks like the Bears are interested
- 9:39Speaker 2: in him, and obviously he might be interested in them
- 9:42Speaker 2: with their situation Cowboys. I don't know if this Sanders
- 9:47Speaker 2: stuff is going to happen, that would be wild. If
- 9:49Speaker 2: it did, it would be like a weekly soap opera
- 9:52Speaker 2: down there. It would be great, would be fair. It
- 9:54Speaker 2: would be great for the league and great for the fans.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I just think it'd be it'd be great for you know,
- 10:01Speaker 3: whatever happens, Yeah, right, what or that it would be
- 10:04Speaker 3: spectacular either way.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that'd be a spectacular fail or a spectacular success.
- 10:09Speaker 6: Cowboy hats that he'd bust out.
- 10:11Speaker 3: I'm sure it would be. That would be fun.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that would be fun.
- 10:14Speaker 3: It's sign up for that.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:15Speaker 6: Do you think though he would try to get if
- 10:17Speaker 6: it did happen, he would try to get shitt or somehow.
- 10:18Speaker 6: I mean, would that be a priority for him when
- 10:20Speaker 6: in the interview process with Jerry, like well that's how
- 10:23Speaker 6: can we get my kid to me?
- 10:24Speaker 2: That That makes it even more intriguing, like what what
- 10:27Speaker 2: effect does Sanders going to the Cowboys have on the draft?
- 10:31Speaker 2: Are we going to have a draft where it's going
- 10:34Speaker 2: to be an l Way or Eli Manning situation?
- 10:36Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 10:37Speaker 4: You know, yeah, I think it's possible. For both those
- 10:39Speaker 4: Colorado guys, him and Travis Hunter, that they try to
- 10:42Speaker 4: control a little bit where they go, you know, just
- 10:45Speaker 4: based off of vibes of you know, I don't really
- 10:48Speaker 4: want to go to Cleveland, you know, just throwing that
- 10:50Speaker 4: out there, and yeah, you know teams like that, see yeah,
- 10:54Speaker 4: maybe even Tennessee. But the Cowboys are at twelve in
- 10:58Speaker 4: the draft.
- 10:58Speaker 3: That's tough to orchestrate. One of them is from twelve.
- 11:00Speaker 4: Yeah, so they would have to trade up pretty significant
- 11:03Speaker 4: haul to move up there. So it's been done. It's
- 11:06Speaker 4: not it wouldn't be the first time.
- 11:08Speaker 2: But and then there's all this talk about Bill Belichick.
- 11:10Speaker 2: He doesn't have a signed contract and all this stuff
- 11:13Speaker 2: and more great your guy Mike Lombardi felt the need
- 11:19Speaker 2: to come down to his demands poorly. One thing I'll
- 11:23Speaker 2: say to me, there's no way in hell that Bill
- 11:28Speaker 2: Belichick is not going to coach at U and see
- 11:30Speaker 2: this season, now next season is a whole different thing.
- 11:33Speaker 2: But I don't think I'm not really I there's no
- 11:37Speaker 2: like it would be such a bad look, such a
- 11:40Speaker 2: bad look, you know, the one you didn't have any
- 11:44Speaker 2: options or you felt you didn't have any options. This
- 11:46Speaker 2: team gives you that option and then you're gonna leave
- 11:49Speaker 2: them at the altar. I just don't see him doing that.
- 11:52Speaker 3: That's just poor to me.
- 11:53Speaker 6: Yeah, I just already being hired.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Yeah now next year, next year, everything's on the on
- 11:59Speaker 2: the table.
- 11:59Speaker 3: You're probably right. I just wouldn't say definitively. I think
- 12:04Speaker 3: there's a reason that all this talk has been out there.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Well, people want it's news. It's it's you know, clicks.
- 12:11Speaker 2: It's sure you talk about it. But I just don't
- 12:14Speaker 2: see him doing that. Well.
- 12:15Speaker 6: I mean I think a little bit.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I mean, Carolina says, you know what, we're sick of this,
- 12:20Speaker 2: you're out.
- 12:22Speaker 6: I mean, I just think that the thing with the Jets,
- 12:24Speaker 6: I resigned as the HG name like Jay, like it's
- 12:26Speaker 6: you know, there's a little bit of Proviti are unconventional.
- 12:29Speaker 2: That's different. That's different. I can't that's not an apple.
- 12:34Speaker 3: He'll spell a word right in his response this time.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Oh uh, So those are the thing we haven't heard about,
- 12:41Speaker 2: like what New Orleans is leaning toward right?
- 12:43Speaker 8: Or have we?
- 12:44Speaker 3: I mean, they've had a ton of interviews too. There
- 12:47Speaker 3: have been a lot of interviews and a lot of
- 12:49Speaker 3: requests from interviews. You knows Kellen Moore I think just
- 12:52Speaker 3: got requested by Dallas. Yep, you know, put him. And
- 12:57Speaker 3: there's some urgency there because you know Philly still playing
- 13:00Speaker 3: and I don't if Philly wins over the weekend, then
- 13:04Speaker 3: you're not gonna be able to get him for a
- 13:06Speaker 3: little bit. This is this is your window to talk
- 13:07Speaker 3: to him. Are you surprised at all that.
- 13:09Speaker 6: Mike McCarthy's getting immediate interest to go right.
- 13:11Speaker 2: Back a little bit? I am a little bit.
- 13:14Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean his record is good. I just don't
- 13:18Speaker 3: think he's a very good coach.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I think his record's good. I think he's good
- 13:21Speaker 4: with quarterbacks and they have a young quarterback in Chicago
- 13:24Speaker 4: that needs guidance, Like he doesn't need Ben Johnson necessarily
- 13:29Speaker 4: right now, he needs somebody to put his arm over
- 13:32Speaker 4: bear yeah and be like this is what we're gonna do,
- 13:34Speaker 4: and you know this is how you're going to do it, and.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, absolutely right.
- 13:38Speaker 6: I mean, do you think that's unique to because of
- 13:40Speaker 6: what Chicago needs or you know, like, is it all.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Because they've interviewed him and Pete Carroll? So it seems
- 13:46Speaker 4: to be like the two favorites for that job are
- 13:48Speaker 4: a steady hand, a raw, raw guy. You know, someone
- 13:52Speaker 4: that's gonna make Caleb feel good about it.
- 13:54Speaker 2: According to this research thing I get from the league,
- 13:58Speaker 2: Joe Brady might be going to the Jaguars.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Yeah, that has been that has been talked about.
- 14:04Speaker 4: Him and Liam Cohane have been talked about a lot
- 14:06Speaker 4: of the Buccaneers offensive coordinator for the Jaguars job. So
- 14:11Speaker 4: those are two guys that are both kind of the similar.
- 14:14Speaker 2: And then Sallas picking up steam too where Jaguars as
- 14:18Speaker 2: well and Cowboys Cowboys interesting? Yeah, Pete Carroll, Yeah, I
- 14:24Speaker 2: don't interview with the Bears and.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Caroll, Mike McCarthy stuff like, I mean, I think Evans
- 14:30Speaker 3: reasoning is very sound, but I don't I don't know to.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Excite me at all.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Stuff I don't either Bears. That wouldn't excite me at all.
- 14:38Speaker 6: Like he's gonna be here. He's how old is he now?
- 14:41Speaker 6: Like seventy four seventy five?
- 14:43Speaker 3: I mean he's oldest.
- 14:43Speaker 6: He was the oldest coach in the league.
- 14:45Speaker 3: And I guess if you if you hired someone like
- 14:48Speaker 3: that and it worked, then maybe you know, you get
- 14:52Speaker 3: a couple of years out of him and now, Okay,
- 14:54Speaker 3: so it worked, and Caleb Williams is now on the track,
- 14:57Speaker 3: So now I can bring someone else in kind of
- 14:59Speaker 3: like what I talked about with Ben Johnson or you
- 15:03Speaker 3: know what, You're having a young offensive coordinator that you
- 15:06Speaker 3: bring in for Drake May right now and it works,
- 15:09Speaker 3: and everybody's like, well, then you're gonna lose him. He's
- 15:11Speaker 3: going to be a head coach. But it worked, So
- 15:14Speaker 3: Drake May is sort of kind of offensive coordinator proof. Now.
- 15:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I would get it if it was
- 15:20Speaker 6: It wouldn't except with Carthy, where he's an offensive guy
- 15:22Speaker 6: and he has experienced with quarterbacks. I get it. But
- 15:24Speaker 6: with Pete Carroll being a defensive guy. But maybe to
- 15:27Speaker 6: your point, there's a higher, a high level OC who
- 15:30Speaker 6: then is kind of the head coach.
- 15:32Speaker 3: He's another one of those like old school West Coast
- 15:35Speaker 3: guys too. That's kind of boring to me.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, he is an old school West Coast guy.
- 15:40Speaker 4: But I get the McCarthy love because he comes with
- 15:43Speaker 4: an offense, right he's going to install an offense. He's
- 15:45Speaker 4: gonna run the cornerback like that. I totally understand. I
- 15:49Speaker 4: don't I don't get Pete Carroll where he's a defensive minded,
- 15:52Speaker 4: seventy five year old head coach. Like, I don't see where.
- 15:55Speaker 2: He's a young, seventy five young he's got.
- 15:57Speaker 4: A lot of energy, got a lot of energy.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Choose that guy.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's a lot going on. But to original point,
- 16:06Speaker 2: and when it comes back to the Patriots, these Senior Bowl,
- 16:09Speaker 2: the Shrine Bowler is coming up fast, and they're gonna
- 16:12Speaker 2: have to send people to it besides Mike Vrabel.
- 16:15Speaker 6: I mean, I think that's part of why you keep
- 16:17Speaker 6: the scouting staff on board. I mean there's just it's
- 16:19Speaker 6: impossible to completely hire a new staff in three weeks.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Right, you guys have been to these games, right, No,
- 16:26Speaker 3: you have never been the practices, So no, I don't.
- 16:31Speaker 3: You don't mean the game itself. I mean, like like
- 16:34Speaker 3: the week, how much how many coaches go.
- 16:39Speaker 4: Quite a few.
- 16:42Speaker 3: And I'm not talking about for the Patriots, I'm talking
- 16:43Speaker 3: about league. Yeah, there's quite a lot of coach quite
- 16:45Speaker 3: a few, not just personnel staffs.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Look, it's it's a networking.
- 16:50Speaker 4: Yeah, it's if the combine spring break for the NFL,
- 16:54Speaker 4: then the Senior Bowl is like sort of like a
- 16:56Speaker 4: warm up to spring break. I don't know, I don't
- 16:58Speaker 4: have a good analogy there, but it's it's similar where
- 17:01Speaker 4: a lot of it.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Would probably have something for that.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Where a lot of it is is networking and going
- 17:07Speaker 4: out to the bars and mobile until two o'clock in
- 17:09Speaker 4: the morning, and that's where a lot of the things
- 17:11Speaker 4: start to hatch. You know, a lot of the things
- 17:14Speaker 4: in the off season start to hatch. So a lot
- 17:16Speaker 4: of it is that. And then there are the hard oh's.
- 17:19Speaker 4: You know, Mike Tomlin every year is like down on
- 17:21Speaker 4: the field, like in the practice, even if he's not
- 17:24Speaker 4: coaching the team, he somehow finds his way, you know,
- 17:26Speaker 4: in the middle of drills and things like that. And
- 17:28Speaker 4: so there are the scouting hardos that will go and
- 17:31Speaker 4: really watch the practices. And as we know, the Patriots
- 17:35Speaker 4: have put in the past and put a lot of
- 17:37Speaker 4: emphasis on how they do against the competition that they're
- 17:41Speaker 4: facing at the Senior Bowl, especially so.
- 17:43Speaker 2: Do a lot of unemployed coaches go.
- 17:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean Rabel was there last year as an
- 17:48Speaker 4: unemployed coach before he got the brow he could Yeah. Yeah,
- 17:52Speaker 4: you know, a lot of networking, a lot of you know,
- 17:55Speaker 4: just seeing what's up and you know, what might be
- 17:57Speaker 4: available and opportunities and things like that, and even just
- 18:01Speaker 4: talking to coaches that maybe you have interest in teaming
- 18:03Speaker 4: up with down the line, which is definitely that I
- 18:05Speaker 4: thought of with Rabel when this all started to go down,
- 18:09Speaker 4: was you know, he's probably there talking to SEE candidates,
- 18:12Speaker 4: talking to DC candidates, you know, things like that.
- 18:14Speaker 2: Yep. So that's coming up. Combine will be at the
- 18:18Speaker 2: end of March yep, February into March yep. Uh, and
- 18:24Speaker 2: then of course the draft's coming up, so getting ready
- 18:27Speaker 2: for all of that.
- 18:29Speaker 6: We're just me and never were planning out. Some of
- 18:30Speaker 6: our writing are all the mock drafts and videos and everything.
- 18:33Speaker 6: So yeah, now it'll be a I like, I gotta
- 18:36Speaker 6: be honest, I I'm so re energized right now with
- 18:39Speaker 6: Rabel coming in here and just each day. And I
- 18:41Speaker 6: think it's also just the respect around the league that
- 18:43Speaker 6: he clearly has, both with players that played under him
- 18:47Speaker 6: or you know, I think even just coaches, and you know,
- 18:50Speaker 6: they took a swing last year on Girod who was
- 18:52Speaker 6: kind of an unknown commodity, but just the you know,
- 18:55Speaker 6: it just feels like they're having an innate level of
- 18:57Speaker 6: respect now that what Mike Rabel can do here. And
- 19:00Speaker 6: I just I think it's a it's been just a
- 19:02Speaker 6: big kick in the pants. I feel like it's been good.
- 19:04Speaker 6: And that's the thing.
- 19:05Speaker 2: You know, we say, well, are you surprised that McCarthy
- 19:08Speaker 2: is getting attention, and I am. But then at the
- 19:11Speaker 2: at the same time, you look at a team like Chicago,
- 19:13Speaker 2: for example, which was in such disarray when it came
- 19:17Speaker 2: to coaching that last year.
- 19:18Speaker 6: That's a good point.
- 19:19Speaker 2: You just need somebody to land the plane right, and
- 19:22Speaker 2: you get somebody with experience at least you can get
- 19:25Speaker 2: some stability in, you know, order to your your franchise.
- 19:31Speaker 6: I mean, I know we've been critical of Sean McDermott
- 19:34Speaker 6: at times, but you know, with Joe Brady getting interviews
- 19:36Speaker 6: now and you know, they're consistently good, Like I mean,
- 19:38Speaker 6: are they You know, they got to still get over
- 19:40Speaker 6: the hump and get a Super Bowl. But at the
- 19:42Speaker 6: same time, I think that's what he's done in Buffalo.
- 19:44Speaker 6: He's established a program they you know, I don't know
- 19:46Speaker 6: if they're maybe kind of coordinator proof at this point,
- 19:48Speaker 6: but at least on the defensive side of the ball,
- 19:50Speaker 6: they've been, uh, personnel proof a little bit, and I think,
- 19:53Speaker 6: you know, that's what every team is hoping for just
- 19:55Speaker 6: that we can withstand the inevitable change that happens with
- 19:58Speaker 6: coaching and personnel, and we have an identity that and
- 20:01Speaker 6: granted a lot of that is based on the quarterback,
- 20:03Speaker 6: but but still, I think, you know, defensively, they showed
- 20:05Speaker 6: this year that they've been able to with stand some
- 20:07Speaker 6: of the turnover with guys who have really defined who
- 20:10Speaker 6: their defense has been the last okay, five six years.
- 20:12Speaker 2: We will have picks today. We'll be doing the round.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Should we also picked the National championship game?
- 20:17Speaker 3: I think unprepared? Okay, I got the spread for that
- 20:21Speaker 3: one too.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Okay, we'll do that.
- 20:23Speaker 6: That's the whole I watched the whole Ohio State game
- 20:25Speaker 6: last I telling the guys like, I haven't watched a
- 20:27Speaker 6: full college football game in a long time, but that
- 20:30Speaker 6: Ohio State game I was. I was in the whole way.
- 20:33Speaker 6: It was really fun, really fun to watch.
- 20:34Speaker 3: So, all right, what do you think of Mike Evan
- 20:38Speaker 3: I stayed up to like eleven, I've always all growns up.
- 20:40Speaker 3: He watched a college.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Couple, couple edgreshers in that game for you, Mike.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Oh, I know, yeah, yeah, he is. I mean obviously
- 20:48Speaker 6: ended the game, and I mean, what a story with
- 20:50Speaker 6: you know, being the former you know, Aller's former roommate
- 20:53Speaker 6: and all that. But I still go back to what
- 20:55Speaker 6: I think of college football, which is just so.
- 20:57Speaker 3: I thought that was pretty cool, fast and loose and.
- 21:00Speaker 6: Unpredictable, and that's I'm interested to see Bill coach in
- 21:03Speaker 6: that environment where mistakes, penalties like the things he hates
- 21:08Speaker 6: that I feel like he tries to life and jamp
- 21:09Speaker 6: out are such a big part of all these games
- 21:12Speaker 6: where it's just big plays and a penalty, and you know,
- 21:15Speaker 6: it's just it's all over the place.
- 21:16Speaker 2: The crazy you know, he'll bench the full running back
- 21:20Speaker 2: for fumbling and the boosted Like Bill, we're paying him
- 21:23Speaker 2: five million dollars a year. Money he's got to play.
- 21:27Speaker 4: I don't know if you knew this, dude, but Jack
- 21:29Speaker 4: Sawyer grew up an Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
- 21:31Speaker 2: And that's a big story right right down the street.
- 21:35Speaker 3: That's where I sort of go and like a lot
- 21:37Speaker 3: of these guys that play college football love the school
- 21:40Speaker 3: they're playing for. I don't need to know, but I
- 21:42Speaker 3: just think it was kind of kind of cool that
- 21:44Speaker 3: yours in Sya were roommates and they sort of bust
- 21:47Speaker 3: each other balls after the game, and I was wondering.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Fans that not like that.
- 21:51Speaker 3: That's what I was going to exactly what I was
- 21:53Speaker 3: going to say. Would that bug you if you were
- 21:55Speaker 3: a Texas fan that you know, like the game's over
- 21:57Speaker 3: and he's like not laughing about it. I mean, it
- 22:00Speaker 3: was devastated, but you know sort of recognize that it's
- 22:03Speaker 3: my friend that that did that. Like, so is that real?
- 22:07Speaker 3: Like Texas fans.
- 22:07Speaker 4: Were like, oh yeah, well, I mean yours is not good,
- 22:12Speaker 4: and I like, I'm probably gonna pret this in like
- 22:14Speaker 4: a two years when he's he's not good and he's.
- 22:18Speaker 3: A good college guy, not an NFL coach quarterback in
- 22:21Speaker 3: my opinion.
- 22:21Speaker 4: Yeah, you're watching the tape of that game and I'm like,
- 22:24Speaker 4: arch Manning could wasn't better than this.
- 22:26Speaker 3: Like my brother and I had a long talk about that.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Find it hard to believe, but in college you pay
- 22:31Speaker 4: your dues and you wait your turn, and that's how
- 22:34Speaker 4: a lot of those schools work. And uh with sarkisian
- 22:37Speaker 4: but I just yeah, I don't know, I don't really
- 22:40Speaker 4: care about when I think.
- 22:41Speaker 3: That Sark really showed a lot of loyalty to yours,
- 22:44Speaker 3: and you know, and in that sport in particular college football,
- 22:50Speaker 3: but college athletics in general, you don't see that either way.
- 22:54Speaker 3: You don't see the players have the loyalty to the program,
- 22:56Speaker 3: or you don't see the coaches have the loyalty to
- 22:58Speaker 3: the players.
- 22:59Speaker 2: So it was.
- 23:00Speaker 3: Refreshing to see that. But you wonder if he cost
- 23:03Speaker 3: himself there, because if arch Manning played the whole year.
- 23:07Speaker 3: He played a couple of games, you know when youers
- 23:09Speaker 3: got hurt. If he played the whole year, how much
- 23:11Speaker 3: better might the offense have been?
- 23:13Speaker 6: What is he a retort sophomore?
- 23:14Speaker 9: Now?
- 23:15Speaker 3: Yeah, this is yeah, he'll be his years, he'll have
- 23:19Speaker 3: his third year coming up.
- 23:20Speaker 2: He'll be the starter next year.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, well, like the leader, he can he's not
- 23:25Speaker 4: like he can run. So they do have a package
- 23:29Speaker 4: in there for him to run the ball a little
- 23:30Speaker 4: bit on some zone reads and things like that. And
- 23:32Speaker 4: yours is a statue.
- 23:33Speaker 2: So it's funny, you know, Eli and Peyton with such
- 23:37Speaker 2: pocket passers, and yet Archie was the ultimate scramble.
- 23:40Speaker 3: He's much more like he like his grandfather.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Yeah, respect that's interesting, Yeah, much more like that. But
- 23:45Speaker 4: he's he's a talented kid. You can tell just you know,
- 23:48Speaker 4: obviously he's very fundamentally sound and all that kind of
- 23:51Speaker 4: stuff because he's been coached by quarterbacks his whole life.
- 23:54Speaker 3: So the fact that he's willing to stay there for
- 23:56Speaker 3: two years too, you know, without playing. Yeah, I mean
- 23:59Speaker 3: he played a little this year, but obviously not being
- 24:01Speaker 3: the starter.
- 24:02Speaker 6: I just think like for somebody like me, who's totally
- 24:05Speaker 6: the casual of casual college football fans, I was invested,
- 24:08Speaker 6: Like I'm invested in this playoff. I'm interested. These are
- 24:10Speaker 6: good teams.
- 24:11Speaker 3: You get in.
- 24:12Speaker 6: It's not like you have two games to watch them
- 24:14Speaker 6: when they had the semi final. Now you get to
- 24:16Speaker 6: watch a few games with these guys.
- 24:17Speaker 2: And I think that means something.
- 24:19Speaker 6: Yeah, Like we start to become a little bit more
- 24:21Speaker 6: familiar with the players, and I've started to see, you know,
- 24:25Speaker 6: a thing I've always hated is like, well, he's an
- 24:27Speaker 6: Ohio State middle linebacker. I mean, that's the thing, right,
- 24:29Speaker 6: But you start to see why people kind of connect
- 24:33Speaker 6: all those players.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Like I always try to.
- 24:34Speaker 6: Look at guys individually and like, well, it's a big deal,
- 24:36Speaker 6: he's an Ohio State middle linebacker. But you start to
- 24:39Speaker 6: see that those guys and I'm just using that as
- 24:40Speaker 6: an example, but you know, you start to see the
- 24:42Speaker 6: traits that always kind of carry over, like they always
- 24:44Speaker 6: seem kind of like the same guys a lot. And
- 24:46Speaker 6: you know, I hadn't something I didn't appreciate as much
- 24:49Speaker 6: when I didn't watch a lot of college football. But
- 24:51Speaker 6: the more you see it where you know, even with
- 24:53Speaker 6: abdual Carter as eleven, you're like, yeah, he's kind of
- 24:54Speaker 6: Michael Parsons a little bit. You know, you start to
- 24:56Speaker 6: draw still.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Can't and I watch more college football than you do,
- 25:00Speaker 3: probably not anywhere near as much as your boy Barth does.
- 25:03Speaker 6: Nobody nobody, that's impossible.
- 25:05Speaker 3: But I like, I'll just watch games and I'll be like, oh,
- 25:09Speaker 3: you know, that guy has had a pretty good game,
- 25:11Speaker 3: and then you know, forty eight hours later, I have
- 25:13Speaker 3: no idea who that guy was, you know what I mean.
- 25:15Speaker 3: And I don't necessarily watch it like that. I just
- 25:18Speaker 3: watched the teams and you know, the big names obviously,
- 25:22Speaker 3: but you know, like Jack Sawyer is he's a good player,
- 25:26Speaker 3: but now like he made those plays and you sort
- 25:28Speaker 3: of stand out in the playoffs and like, okay, now
- 25:30Speaker 3: I remember this guy, Jack Sawyer. He plays. You know,
- 25:32Speaker 3: he's an edge guy. You know, plays for Ohio State.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Didn't do it again, right, Whereas I watched Ohio State
- 25:38Speaker 3: probably four times this year. I don't remember Jack Sawyer.
- 25:41Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:41Speaker 3: I'm sure he made plays and all the games that
- 25:43Speaker 3: I watched. But I just think the playoffs are offered
- 25:47Speaker 3: a little bit of a different and I think a
- 25:48Speaker 3: lot of people watch, like me, just to watch the game,
- 25:51Speaker 3: not necessarily like identifying this.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Guy, this guy, this Comcast I have that have that
- 25:57Speaker 2: Sea button, So you hit the Sea button on Saturday,
- 26:00Speaker 2: and it's got all the lists of the games, and
- 26:02Speaker 2: you go down the list and you see, oh, this
- 26:03Speaker 2: is a close game, so then you go into that game.
- 26:06Speaker 2: That's how I do it.
- 26:07Speaker 6: Well, that's why I think Barth provides a service when
- 26:09Speaker 6: he watches some of these games and he'll tweet out
- 26:12Speaker 6: lists of draft guys.
- 26:14Speaker 3: You know, I'm not interested in that at all, and
- 26:16Speaker 3: I'm not This is nothing against no ahead. I just
- 26:20Speaker 3: want to watch the games. I don't want to watch
- 26:22Speaker 3: the games with the thought of, oh they might I'm
- 26:26Speaker 3: not a scout.
- 26:27Speaker 2: That's not what I do.
- 26:28Speaker 3: That's I don't pretend to be one. And it's I'm
- 26:30Speaker 3: not really interested in being one. I just want to
- 26:31Speaker 3: watch the game, like that Scataboo kid. I loved watching play, right,
- 26:36Speaker 3: not because I think he's going to do anything in
- 26:38Speaker 3: the NFL. Opposite, like I like watching him play. Even
- 26:42Speaker 3: though I did, he wasn't necessarily my You know this,
- 26:45Speaker 3: he's dead to me. He's a try hard, unbelievable.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Why don't you like it?
- 26:54Speaker 3: Because he's he's kind of a dick. I mean, he's
- 26:59Speaker 3: always he's always yelling at. He's a heart definite like
- 27:04Speaker 3: he's not my kind of guy. Like, I mean, he
- 27:07Speaker 3: basically just carried.
- 27:08Speaker 2: He didn't like that because he'd be the guy yelling
- 27:10Speaker 2: at Paul.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Come on, Paul, first of all, to suggest that I
- 27:14Speaker 3: was alignment, I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that.
- 27:17Speaker 2: No, it would be like, get us sit down the
- 27:19Speaker 2: huddle quicker. Okay, now I could helpen All right, Let's
- 27:23Speaker 2: get to some of the emails and phone calls. Podcasts
- 27:27Speaker 2: at Patriots dot com is the email address. The tpx
- 27:30Speaker 2: houtline is eight five to five pass five hundred. We'll
- 27:32Speaker 2: start with podcasts at Patriots dot com. This is from
- 27:38Speaker 2: Chris in the UK and it's unclassified NATO communications. So
- 27:43Speaker 2: this guy is important, Wow, he says, catching up on
- 27:47Speaker 2: a podcast from a few weeks ago December twenty sixth,
- 27:49Speaker 2: you had a call or mentioned that the league is
- 27:51Speaker 2: rubbish today. One of the justifications for this, put forward
- 27:55Speaker 2: by you was that too many teams are either uncompetitive
- 27:59Speaker 2: or overly on, suggesting that there's a lack of depth
- 28:02Speaker 2: in the talent pool. I remember that conversation, the disparity.
- 28:05Speaker 2: I would argue that the depth of talent is not
- 28:07Speaker 2: really an issue, but more about how the talent available
- 28:10Speaker 2: is spread throughout the league. Hypothetically, an ideal spread of
- 28:14Speaker 2: talent would see any team capable of beating another and
- 28:18Speaker 2: everyone ending the season within one win over under a
- 28:21Speaker 2: five hundred record. If you take that as the perfect situation,
- 28:25Speaker 2: A realistic goal would surely be a season with all
- 28:28Speaker 2: teams somewhere between point twenty five and point seventy five
- 28:31Speaker 2: in the final standings. And then he attaches the table
- 28:35Speaker 2: to show how that would look, which I'm not going
- 28:37Speaker 2: to get into.
- 28:38Speaker 3: That would be an absolute night.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Yes, taking this metric, the best season in the last
- 28:42Speaker 2: twenty three years were two thousand and two, two thousand
- 28:45Speaker 2: and three, ten and eighteen. The worst season in terms
- 28:49Speaker 2: of competitive across the board was twenty four, followed by
- 28:52Speaker 2: twenty two. In fact, with the exception of twenty eleven,
- 28:56Speaker 2: four of the worst seasons in the last twenty three
- 28:59Speaker 2: years have been in the last six So the caller
- 29:01Speaker 2: did have a point. The competitives across the league is
- 29:04Speaker 2: currently poor in terms of distribution of talent.
- 29:07Speaker 6: It's a very at I would just break it down why.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I just want to see it.
- 29:13Speaker 6: But I'd like to see a competitive wildcard weekend that
- 29:15Speaker 6: that's the when.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Was the last time you did? And adding playoff teams
- 29:19Speaker 3: is not helping you?
- 29:21Speaker 2: They correct, But here's here's the one factor I would
- 29:25Speaker 2: say is more important in football than any other sport,
- 29:29Speaker 2: and when it terms competitiveness, it's coaching. There's also a
- 29:33Speaker 2: lack of good coaching across the board.
- 29:36Speaker 3: I agree with you on that, and I would say
- 29:38Speaker 3: that that's all accurate in terms of the competitive and
- 29:41Speaker 3: the non competitive and all that stuff. I just don't
- 29:42Speaker 3: think it's because of talent, right, I just I think
- 29:46Speaker 3: there's a lot. I think there's plenty of talent, you know,
- 29:49Speaker 3: spread out around the league. I think there's a lot
- 29:52Speaker 3: of really good players on really bad teams. You know
- 29:54Speaker 3: a lot. Now some of the really bad teams have
- 29:57Speaker 3: also you know, like I always use Carolina as an example.
- 30:00Speaker 3: They recently just decided we're going to get rid of
- 30:02Speaker 3: every good player we have because we just we're starting over.
- 30:06Speaker 3: And you know, Brian Burns went and Christian McCaffrey went,
- 30:09Speaker 3: and you know, like they just decided we're going to
- 30:11Speaker 3: strip it to the studs and they're going to start over.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Some teams are like that. Other teams are not bad
- 30:17Speaker 3: because of that. Like the Jets certainly aren't bad because
- 30:21Speaker 3: of that. You know, that's a team that's tried and failed.
- 30:25Speaker 3: So is talent a problem? Is the Jets have five
- 30:29Speaker 3: wins because of no talent?
- 30:31Speaker 2: Well, I would say that quarterback talent's a problem.
- 30:35Speaker 3: No, No, I get that, But they haven't been good.
- 30:40Speaker 3: But it's not because of a lack of talent. They're
- 30:44Speaker 3: missing other things. And I think your point is much
- 30:46Speaker 3: more valid than talent coaching.
- 30:49Speaker 2: You need good coaching.
- 30:50Speaker 3: I think you're absolutely right for it.
- 30:52Speaker 6: That's what I like about the NFL is that, and
- 30:54Speaker 6: football in general, is that it's always kind of a
- 30:55Speaker 6: chemistry experiment, and there's you know, and there's always you know,
- 30:59Speaker 6: like it's like cook, you know, there's quite and it's
- 31:01Speaker 6: not salt in this one. And you know there's little
- 31:03Speaker 6: elements that maybe don't even jump out to you initially,
- 31:06Speaker 6: but talent, coaching, depths and avoidance of injuries.
- 31:12Speaker 2: And then even when when when teams do have success
- 31:16Speaker 2: with a talented team, that doesn't always mean they're going
- 31:19Speaker 2: to have sustained success because you have Cincinnati.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Yeah, why you know, why is Cincinnati not in the playoffs?
- 31:26Speaker 3: I would say, Fred again, coaching and my curse.
- 31:31Speaker 2: This is true, but you know, you have individuals with
- 31:37Speaker 2: their own personalities, you have success, and then you have entitlement,
- 31:41Speaker 2: and now people aren't thinking about the team first. They're
- 31:43Speaker 2: thinking about themselves first, and they're you know, so it's
- 31:46Speaker 2: a very that's what makes football so great. There's so
- 31:50Speaker 2: many layers to it. Uh and and all of these
- 31:56Speaker 2: make it tough to have sustained success, which makes the
- 32:00Speaker 2: dynasty is so much more impressive because they did it
- 32:02Speaker 2: over for twenty years.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't that's a different argument, and you're right,
- 32:07Speaker 3: but the whole talent, like, there are some bad teams
- 32:09Speaker 3: that are you know, they're bad because they don't have
- 32:11Speaker 3: a lot of you know, the Patriots are one of them.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, like.
- 32:14Speaker 3: They don't have a ton of talent. I don't think
- 32:16Speaker 3: Tennessee right now is you know, brimming with talent. I
- 32:21Speaker 3: think that's the reason why they're picking first overall. And
- 32:24Speaker 3: certainly Caroline is not a very talented team, you know
- 32:27Speaker 3: at the moment. But there are some teams that because
- 32:29Speaker 3: we won the last damn game, should be better. There
- 32:32Speaker 3: are some teams that should be better than they are.
- 32:34Speaker 3: And I think Fred's point about coaching, I think there
- 32:37Speaker 3: are more good quarterbacks. I say this all the time.
- 32:39Speaker 3: There are more good quarterbacks in the league than there
- 32:41Speaker 3: are good coaches.
- 32:41Speaker 2: And they're not being developed right maybe or coached right,
- 32:44Speaker 2: or the offense isn't being coached right. Coaching is critical
- 32:49Speaker 2: in football.
- 32:49Speaker 4: I think there's a lot of coaches, especially on the
- 32:52Speaker 4: offenssee side of the ball, with quarterbacks that are getting
- 32:54Speaker 4: these newer age quarterbacks like a Drake May like a
- 32:59Speaker 4: Caleb Williams, and they don't one hundred percent know what
- 33:02Speaker 4: to do with them because they're not the prototypical quarterback
- 33:05Speaker 4: that they grew up with and the systems that they
- 33:07Speaker 4: grew up with don't really apply to these types of
- 33:10Speaker 4: quarterbacks that are coming out today. And I think a
- 33:13Speaker 4: lot of these coaches are a little bit lost into
- 33:15Speaker 4: terms of what kind of scheme and what kind of
- 33:18Speaker 4: situation they're supposed to put these guys in. And then
- 33:20Speaker 4: you see like Jaden Daniels gets Cliff Kingsbury, who has
- 33:23Speaker 4: a background in college football, who has a background and
- 33:26Speaker 4: the air raid and that type of offense, and all
- 33:28Speaker 4: of a sudden, he has his great rookie year. So
- 33:30Speaker 4: I wonder how much you know of that is going on,
- 33:33Speaker 4: and if there's maybe gonna be a little bit more
- 33:35Speaker 4: of a trickle up from the college game, you know,
- 33:38Speaker 4: into the NFL to try to to try to adapt
- 33:41Speaker 4: the scheme because it's just going to keep happening. Like
- 33:42Speaker 4: these quarterbacks in college are running rpo offenses, they're running
- 33:47Speaker 4: all these different spread schemes and air raids and things
- 33:49Speaker 4: like that. That's not going away, Like they're not going
- 33:51Speaker 4: to all of a sudden go back to putting the
- 33:53Speaker 4: quarterback under center for half the game and things like that.
- 33:56Speaker 4: So these NFL teams have to adapt, They have to
- 33:59Speaker 4: find ways for their coaching to adapt. So whether that's
- 34:02Speaker 4: hiring coordinators from college or just teaching the coordinators in
- 34:05Speaker 4: the NFL. Some of the college flavor guy like Joe
- 34:08Speaker 4: Brady is succeeding because he spent time in college. Liam
- 34:12Speaker 4: Cohene is succeeding because he spent time in college, and
- 34:15Speaker 4: so like, whether it's that route or it's just teaching
- 34:17Speaker 4: those guys, they got to do a better job with
- 34:19Speaker 4: some of these young quarterbacks.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Kylin Pembroke writes in with the Discussion, When the discussion
- 34:25Speaker 2: of wide receivers comes up, Paul likes to point out
- 34:27Speaker 2: that he replaced Amaro Douglas, which I think, with respect
- 34:30Speaker 2: to Paul, is stupid. He's undoubtedly our most athletic, explosive
- 34:34Speaker 2: receiver and a solid weapon out of the slot. It
- 34:37Speaker 2: would be smarter to add on to him by getting
- 34:39Speaker 2: a solid X and Z receiver that can complement his skills.
- 34:43Speaker 2: And added benefit is we don't get rid of homegrown talent,
- 34:46Speaker 2: something that's been a problem that's led to this awful roster.
- 34:50Speaker 2: And before he asks in a snarky tone, yes, Douglas
- 34:52Speaker 2: is talented enough to keep around and to be considered
- 34:55Speaker 2: a homegrown talent. Yeah, Paul, your response.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Well, My first thing is what homegrown talent? If they
- 35:04Speaker 3: let go that you regret Myers, I'm not.
- 35:07Speaker 2: I keep calling Leonard Myers, Jacoby.
- 35:10Speaker 3: Myers, Myers is Myers.
- 35:11Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, I'm sorry. I'd rather have Myers than I
- 35:17Speaker 2: would too, But I.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Think you're in the same spot if you have Myers
- 35:19Speaker 3: and I like Myers. But okay, so give you give
- 35:22Speaker 3: me some Yeah, absolutely, yes, yes, Jacoby Myers.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Joe Toney homegrown talent.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Right, So now we get two.
- 35:33Speaker 4: Not even an argument that was absolutely yes.
- 35:37Speaker 3: I mean I would not have paid him the money
- 35:39Speaker 3: that Kansas City pays him. But that's that's me.
- 35:41Speaker 2: I'm not saying that, but that's what it costs. They
- 35:43Speaker 2: shouldn't have franchised him to begin with. They should have
- 35:45Speaker 2: just extended him at the time.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Well, but you were extending him with Kansas City is
- 35:49Speaker 3: paying him.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Maybe, Okay, So two, two, we're inching up, we're inching up.
- 35:57Speaker 6: We're gonna get three.
- 35:58Speaker 3: I think maybe maybe I'm missing my mind's eye doesn't
- 36:01Speaker 3: really remember, like all of these fish, big fish that
- 36:04Speaker 3: got away. But maybe I'm wrong.
- 36:06Speaker 4: That's two.
- 36:07Speaker 3: Ye Okay, Now I would say everything he said about
- 36:11Speaker 3: to Mario Douglas. I would agree with he's their best,
- 36:16Speaker 3: most explosive player out of the slot. Absolutely, wouldn't argue
- 36:20Speaker 3: one thing. My goal is to get a better player
- 36:23Speaker 3: than that, so he's more explosive out of the slot
- 36:28Speaker 3: than the other teams that have that player. That's my goal.
- 36:31Speaker 2: We're looking at it.
- 36:32Speaker 3: Goal isn't to have the Patriots best. My goal is
- 36:35Speaker 3: to have one that would be considered one of the
- 36:38Speaker 3: best in the league.
- 36:39Speaker 2: But my eye tests with Pop. I think he can
- 36:42Speaker 2: be a contributor. He's not a number one or a
- 36:44Speaker 2: number two, but I think he is dynamic.
- 36:46Speaker 3: Get the contributor him the ball.
- 36:51Speaker 2: You don't think he's dynamic, No, Why because.
- 36:54Speaker 3: I don't think he makes a lot of big plays
- 36:57Speaker 3: that to me is dynamic.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I just look at opportunity versus the big place.
- 37:02Speaker 3: Maybe it's offensive related. I'm willing to say that in
- 37:05Speaker 3: a better sort of coordinated scheme, he could be more dynamic.
- 37:10Speaker 3: You know, Like I love Jakobe Myers, I don't think
- 37:12Speaker 3: he's dynamic either.
- 37:14Speaker 2: Well, I don't think he's not that explosive guy, but
- 37:16Speaker 2: he's a dependable guy. Yeah, who will produce and God, this.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Team knows that what I want. What I would want
- 37:23Speaker 3: is in addition to his X and Z, which I
- 37:25Speaker 3: don't care about. I don't care if they're good players,
- 37:27Speaker 3: I don't care where they play. I want better talent
- 37:33Speaker 3: like all the guys that they've had have. You know,
- 37:35Speaker 3: Kendrick Boone had an eight hundred yard season a couple
- 37:37Speaker 3: of years ago. You know Kayshaun Boody showed flashes of
- 37:41Speaker 3: being that's great. They've all demonstrated a monicum of ability.
- 37:46Speaker 3: I think you can to use a college term over
- 37:50Speaker 3: recruit these guys. I think you can get better, more
- 37:53Speaker 3: talented options across the board for all of these positions
- 37:57Speaker 3: X Y Z being bananas, slot, I don't care. I
- 38:02Speaker 3: think you can get better players than what you have.
- 38:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think that Pop Douglas is one of
- 38:07Speaker 4: those players where you say, Okay, we're set no slot
- 38:11Speaker 4: and if we really like a Mecca Abuka from Ohio State,
- 38:15Speaker 4: who's a pure slot guy, if we really like Abuka,
- 38:18Speaker 4: we can't draft Abuka because we have Pop Douglas, which
- 38:20Speaker 4: I think was a factor with lad mcconkee, because they
- 38:23Speaker 4: I do too, and that's my point, right, and so
- 38:26Speaker 4: you can't do that with pop Douglas. Now, is he
- 38:28Speaker 4: a nice complimentary piece to have in the offense? Yeah,
- 38:32Speaker 4: I think he is, sure, because he's, you know guy.
- 38:34Speaker 3: That is a little bit of a difference. I'm okay
- 38:37Speaker 3: with that.
- 38:37Speaker 2: If I have T.
- 38:38Speaker 3: Higgins and you know, a Brown, Let's let's say McMillen.
- 38:43Speaker 4: Okay, let's say T.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Higgins and McMillan, and now I knock him down. So
- 38:48Speaker 3: he's like just like another option, and he becomes you
- 38:52Speaker 3: can do it, you can do it. He just becomes
- 38:57Speaker 3: another like, hey, you know what, every in a while
- 39:00Speaker 3: they throw the ball to to Mario Douglas and he
- 39:02Speaker 3: comes up with a big play for you, you know,
- 39:04Speaker 3: like Curtis Samuel did in the Buffalo Again. Yeah, I
- 39:07Speaker 3: also wonder you know what I mean, Like Curtis Samuel
- 39:09Speaker 3: is not going to catch eighty passes for Buffalo, but
- 39:11Speaker 3: every once in a while he makes a play. I
- 39:13Speaker 3: think to Mario Douglas has ability. Yea, So please don't
- 39:16Speaker 3: say that I think that he stinks. I don't think
- 39:18Speaker 3: he stinks.
- 39:18Speaker 4: Well, what happens if you have a guy on the
- 39:20Speaker 4: outside that has a real presence to him, like at
- 39:23Speaker 4: T Higgins where now the middle of the field is
- 39:26Speaker 4: a little bit more open for those types of guys,
- 39:28Speaker 4: because obviously that's what everybody's sitting on now is throws
- 39:31Speaker 4: into the middle of the field to the tight ends
- 39:32Speaker 4: into the slot, so ten yards. So if you're able
- 39:35Speaker 4: to kind of open it up a little bit with
- 39:37Speaker 4: people on the outside. I'm not saying he's going to
- 39:39Speaker 4: be a fifteen hundred yard receiver, but it definitely makes
- 39:42Speaker 4: his job a little bit easier for sure.
- 39:43Speaker 3: I would say for me if sorry, dude, I was
- 39:46Speaker 3: just gonna say, like, I think that Evan's point about
- 39:49Speaker 3: Lad McConkie is exactly where my mindset is. And I
- 39:52Speaker 3: think that I don't have anybody that's ever told me this,
- 39:54Speaker 3: but I think that that's true. I think that they
- 39:56Speaker 3: weren't necessarily looking at McConkie because they felt like they
- 40:01Speaker 3: had that guy in to Mario Douglas. And I think
- 40:03Speaker 3: that's not really a close comparison Jackson Smith and Jigba,
- 40:07Speaker 3: I don't they built They they're slot receivers, they played
- 40:10Speaker 3: the same spot. They're not the same guys. And when
- 40:13Speaker 3: you say, like dynamic that, to me, there's a.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Different Cocky's more like Cooper Cup, you know, a little
- 40:18Speaker 2: bit bigger.
- 40:19Speaker 3: Cup was dynamic. He's thirty one now, no, no, I
- 40:22Speaker 3: mean Cooper Cup had two thousand yards one year. To
- 40:26Speaker 3: say he's Cooper Cup is ridiculous.
- 40:28Speaker 2: It is more like him perversatile, like he's not just
- 40:31Speaker 2: a side.
- 40:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 40:33Speaker 6: Well, I think there's it's unique to with Pop this year.
- 40:35Speaker 6: And I think Sophie talked to Pop and I think
- 40:37Speaker 6: she just posted something which shout out Sophie.
- 40:41Speaker 3: But he said thanks.
- 40:42Speaker 6: Credit to Alex van Pell because he wasn't a big
- 40:44Speaker 6: slot guy. He's usually a two tight end guy, and
- 40:46Speaker 6: he really, you know, focused on trying to get more
- 40:49Speaker 6: opportunities for Pop Douglas as a slot, which is.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Why I said, if they had a different coordinated offense.
- 40:54Speaker 6: Right, so maybe and that might be part of it too.
- 40:56Speaker 6: When they got to the draft, they're like, well, the
- 40:58Speaker 6: slot's not really going to be a big part if
- 41:00Speaker 6: they did think that that Lab McConkey was a slot.
- 41:02Speaker 6: But I would say if someone like Josh were to
- 41:04Speaker 6: come here and you need a dog and a high
- 41:07Speaker 6: volume slot guy, I don't think Pop Douglas is that guy.
- 41:10Speaker 6: He's made the second guy. He's more like a Danny
- 41:12Speaker 6: Ammondola Yeah, but I also and I just I have
- 41:15Speaker 6: trust issues with Pop Douglas. I have trust issues if
- 41:18Speaker 6: he is going to be locked in for one hundred
- 41:20Speaker 6: percent of the snaps and in the big moments, is
- 41:23Speaker 6: he going to be ready to make those people.
- 41:24Speaker 3: I like the email though, it's a good email provoking email.
- 41:27Speaker 4: Yeah, I definitely agree with that point, Mike, like, especially
- 41:30Speaker 4: again zone coverage, Like he still doesn't have a great
- 41:33Speaker 4: feel for when to sit and when to find those
- 41:35Speaker 4: saft spots in zone coverage. And if you're going to
- 41:38Speaker 4: be a guy that's going to get targeted a hundred
- 41:40Speaker 4: times out of the slot, then that's going to be
- 41:42Speaker 4: a big part of your job is finding those little
- 41:44Speaker 4: And you think about.
- 41:45Speaker 6: How intense Wes Welker and Julian Edelman were and the
- 41:48Speaker 6: guys in Josh's offense that made things go and walked
- 41:51Speaker 6: in and third and ten in the Super Bowl, and
- 41:53Speaker 6: Julian Edelman is going to take a huge hit and
- 41:55Speaker 6: hang on to it. That's the kind of guy one
- 41:56Speaker 6: night that's like I.
- 41:59Speaker 3: Look at those and I'm spoiled. I'm spoiled, rotten because
- 42:02Speaker 3: I had that guy for the better part of twenty
- 42:05Speaker 3: years with Troy Brown, Wes Welker, and Julian Edelman. I
- 42:08Speaker 3: don't see any similarities really at all between Jamario Douglas
- 42:12Speaker 3: and those three guys.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Uh junior from Minneapolis. This may seem strange, but I'm
- 42:17Speaker 2: a little worried how focused Rabel seems to be about
- 42:20Speaker 2: fixing the offensive line.
- 42:22Speaker 3: That'll be the old guy say they were INCREDI will love.
- 42:24Speaker 4: Him, but you're worried that but he wants to fix the.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Off He's worried about how focused he is on fixing
- 42:30Speaker 2: the offensive line.
- 42:30Speaker 4: Have you watched the Patriots offense? Did you listen to
- 42:33Speaker 4: the show?
- 42:33Speaker 2: Wait? Can you?
- 42:34Speaker 3: I'm sorry because I was Yeah, yeah, we had. We
- 42:38Speaker 3: had a little side conversation.
- 42:39Speaker 4: But you need to stop doing that.
- 42:41Speaker 3: And we do that too, odd son, that was that
- 42:44Speaker 3: was my fault. I took responsibility, was mine.
- 42:46Speaker 4: I just wanted to get with Strepo's name out there.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll reset. This may seem a little strange, but
- 42:51Speaker 2: I'm a little worried how focused Rabel seems to be
- 42:54Speaker 2: about fixing the offensive line this offseason. I understand how
- 42:57Speaker 2: bad we were last off last season, but there's still
- 43:00Speaker 2: a lot of resources and you'th invested in this old line.
- 43:03Speaker 2: We have a third round right tackle, a nineteen million
- 43:06Speaker 2: dollar right guard, a first round left guard, a veteran
- 43:09Speaker 2: court center, and two fourth round offensive guards who have
- 43:13Speaker 2: shown potential at times. I know we need to get
- 43:16Speaker 2: a left tackle this offseason, but besides that, can we
- 43:19Speaker 2: really afford to ignore the other holes on the roster.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Considering the lack of high end offensive line talent in
- 43:26Speaker 2: the draft and free agency, I'm worried Vrabel might spend
- 43:29Speaker 2: premium assets on mediocre O line talent and pass on
- 43:34Speaker 2: high end talent on other premium positions. Looking at the
- 43:37Speaker 2: bigger picture, the best move might be to address other
- 43:41Speaker 2: positions with premium assets this offseason, see how Robinson, Wallace
- 43:45Speaker 2: and Strange develop, and then address the O line in
- 43:48Speaker 2: full next offseason when you have more information and possibly
- 43:52Speaker 2: a better draft and free agent class. No, what do
- 43:56Speaker 2: you think?
- 43:56Speaker 8: No?
- 43:58Speaker 6: No, I mean, did you watch last season?
- 44:00Speaker 2: Would you?
- 44:00Speaker 8: I know?
- 44:02Speaker 2: But do you overdraft because of that? I?
- 44:05Speaker 6: I mean I try not to. And I think that's
- 44:06Speaker 6: a great question as to will Campbell at you know,
- 44:09Speaker 6: fourth overall, But I just think this has to be
- 44:12Speaker 6: I look, and I agree with some of the points
- 44:14Speaker 6: he made. You got to get over where guys were
- 44:16Speaker 6: drafted like they got here, they're now Patriots. It doesn't
- 44:18Speaker 6: matter that you have a first round left guard or
- 44:20Speaker 6: center who can't cold strangers here and his sample size
- 44:23Speaker 6: speaks for itself. I think you have to you have
- 44:26Speaker 6: to make at least a couple moves, and you've got
- 44:28Speaker 6: you've got the you've got the resources to do it.
- 44:31Speaker 6: But you know to say, yeah, let's let's see how
- 44:33Speaker 6: it works out in your two of this group.
- 44:35Speaker 2: Like I don't want a couple moves. He's talking about
- 44:37Speaker 2: premium assets. Is there a difference in your mind?
- 44:42Speaker 6: Well, look, I think that what Rabel needs to do
- 44:44Speaker 6: is he needs to get it right. And you know
- 44:45Speaker 6: it doesn't mean go overspend for a guy that you
- 44:49Speaker 6: think or may or may not you have. That's their problem.
- 44:51Speaker 6: Go figure it out, be creative, find.
- 44:53Speaker 2: A way to get so good. At least. What I'm
- 44:55Speaker 2: getting at is, do you throw away taking the best
- 44:58Speaker 2: players available because you need offensive line help.
- 45:02Speaker 3: I wouldn't.
- 45:03Speaker 6: I mean I would take out that card.
- 45:04Speaker 3: I think that's what he's saying. I don't think that's
- 45:06Speaker 3: what he's saying. I think he thinks they're in a
- 45:08Speaker 3: lot better shape than they are number one, number two?
- 45:10Speaker 3: Why is it automatically if he's he's too focused on
- 45:15Speaker 3: the offensive line, he's not going to address anything else,
- 45:18Speaker 3: Like I think he's making a connection there. Like so
- 45:20Speaker 3: in other words, it sounds like if they take an
- 45:22Speaker 3: offensive lineman with the first round pick, that's.
- 45:24Speaker 2: A fail and unless that guy is the best player
- 45:28Speaker 2: event And I.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Don't know, like I don't know exactly what they're going
- 45:32Speaker 3: to do. I don't know if they're going to pick four.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Maybe they move down and they get and then they
- 45:35Speaker 3: get more picked and they get an offensive lineman there.
- 45:38Speaker 3: But just some of the things that he said, Mike
- 45:42Speaker 3: already addressed. They have a former first round guard who
- 45:45Speaker 3: has not established any level of consistency as a pro.
- 45:49Speaker 2: Huge questions we got laughed at for taking.
- 45:51Speaker 3: He talks about the guys that they took last year
- 45:54Speaker 3: that showed promise at times. Exactly when was that they
- 45:57Speaker 3: had the worst offensive line from week one to week eight?
- 46:00Speaker 2: Do you read any of these media people, Paul are going.
- 46:02Speaker 3: To tell you that they flashed I mean, Robinson, I'm
- 46:07Speaker 3: talking to the people that do this for a living,
- 46:09Speaker 3: and they didn't really seem to see that Kayden Wallace
- 46:12Speaker 3: missed most of the year.
- 46:13Speaker 4: Kaden Wallace is obviously a mystery box because he didn't play.
- 46:16Speaker 4: So I'll say that if you want to say he's
- 46:19Speaker 4: a mystery box, then sure. Leyden Robinson to me, has
- 46:21Speaker 4: not proven anything. I don't think he's proven any.
- 46:24Speaker 3: City So was inactive in week eighteen, like when everybody
- 46:29Speaker 3: was getting the varsity letter, he was inactive.
- 46:31Speaker 4: The coaching staff definitely did not like City, so this
- 46:35Speaker 4: past coaching staff obviously did not care for City So.
- 46:39Speaker 4: But I mean, look, we've read off the stats about
- 46:43Speaker 4: the offensive line all season long. They're the worst offensive
- 46:46Speaker 4: line in the league across the board, no matter who
- 46:48Speaker 4: you ask, whether it's you know, win rate, PFF, grade,
- 46:53Speaker 4: eye test, whatever, like, they were the worst offensive line
- 46:56Speaker 4: in football. And it's starting to like go up my
- 46:58Speaker 4: backside a little bit, just a little bit about how
- 47:03Speaker 4: this draft has no offensive line talent. Like it's that's
- 47:06Speaker 4: starting to really bug me. Like the Texas just went
- 47:10Speaker 4: to the college football quarterfinal with a left tackle that
- 47:14Speaker 4: is going to be a top ten pick. And so
- 47:17Speaker 4: if you yeah, semi final, thank you. So, Like, if
- 47:19Speaker 4: you keep on saying to me that there's no talent
- 47:22Speaker 4: on the offensive line at the top of the draft.
- 47:24Speaker 4: I am going to continuously disagree with you, Like Calvin
- 47:27Speaker 4: Banks is a legitimate tackle prospect. Will Campbell if he
- 47:31Speaker 4: measures out at the combine is a legitimate tackle prospect
- 47:34Speaker 4: like every other year, like Olufushanu on down, Like, no,
- 47:38Speaker 4: they're not Joe Alt and I get that, But Joel
- 47:41Speaker 4: is a unicorn. Like Joealt was a elite blue chip prospect,
- 47:44Speaker 4: and those guys don't come around every single day. These
- 47:47Speaker 4: tackle prospects at the top of the draft this year
- 47:50Speaker 4: are fine. They are perfectly fine top ten picks, and
- 47:53Speaker 4: they will go in the top ten.
- 47:54Speaker 3: And I'm not arguing if he is suggesting, you know,
- 47:57Speaker 3: stay true to your board, pick the best player, I
- 48:00Speaker 3: have no argument with that. I just think worrying that
- 48:04Speaker 3: he's focused too much on what is clearly the worst
- 48:06Speaker 3: part of the off the the roster. Hey, I don't
- 48:12Speaker 3: really know why what is making him think that. I mean,
- 48:15Speaker 3: I know he talked about the offensive line, he talked
- 48:16Speaker 3: about a lot of things.
- 48:19Speaker 2: I didn't get the sense he was overly talking about it.
- 48:21Speaker 3: And I think he's connecting dots. I think the emailer
- 48:24Speaker 3: is connecting dots, saying he's focused on the offensive line
- 48:27Speaker 3: and therefore is not going to look to get wide
- 48:29Speaker 3: receivers or edge rushers or whatever else that they need.
- 48:33Speaker 3: The biggest need is offensive line. That's hard coming from me.
- 48:39Speaker 3: I always just tell you you can get offensive linemen. Well,
- 48:43Speaker 3: they took my theory and blew it up last year.
- 48:46Speaker 3: They didn't even try. They did not even try to
- 48:49Speaker 3: get an offensive line, and look what happened.
- 48:51Speaker 6: And I don't even believe you have to make Kid
- 48:53Speaker 6: Wallace and Laden Robinson walk the plank already like I'm
- 48:56Speaker 6: fine with it.
- 48:56Speaker 3: I'm coming back to they go in thinking that you
- 48:59Speaker 3: have starting cal players with either one of those two guys.
- 49:01Speaker 3: That's why I'd listened to I wouldn't really want to
- 49:04Speaker 3: overspend on another guard when you're already playing on when
- 49:06Speaker 3: you but I would seriously look at and this is
- 49:08Speaker 3: a terrible example, but the nick levertz of the well,
- 49:11Speaker 3: you know someone who's played a little bit, that has
- 49:13Speaker 3: some experience that you can at least say, if we're
- 49:15Speaker 3: in a pickle, someone like this can play left guard.
- 49:18Speaker 3: If leydon I think that's the bare minimum of getting him.
- 49:20Speaker 6: When company he.
- 49:21Speaker 4: Talks about the interior of the pocket.
- 49:23Speaker 2: Though.
- 49:24Speaker 4: You know, I think you feel good about on when
- 49:25Speaker 4: you and you hope that Andrews is gonna is gonna
- 49:28Speaker 4: come back and be okay. That that I also think
- 49:31Speaker 4: is a wild card that Andrews is gonna be perfectly fine. Yeah,
- 49:35Speaker 4: so then you're you're looking at strange Ben Brown maybe
- 49:38Speaker 4: on a you know, coming back on a tender. Like
- 49:40Speaker 4: those guys are your centers right now. If David Andrews
- 49:44Speaker 4: isn't okay. Tray Smith is an intriguing player to me because,
- 49:48Speaker 4: yes he plays guard. Yes you're gonna have to pay
- 49:50Speaker 4: a lot of money for him. But if you want
- 49:52Speaker 4: to go best player available in free agency, you know,
- 49:56Speaker 4: instead of overpaying Cam Robinson to play left tackle and
- 49:59Speaker 4: saying we solved left tackle after you give up twelve
- 50:02Speaker 4: pressures against the Rams the other night, you know, a
- 50:05Speaker 4: guy like Trey Smith is a Pro Bowl caliber guard.
- 50:08Speaker 3: It's funny after that game the the night we haven't
- 50:09Speaker 3: gotten a lot of Cam Robins because he was dreadful.
- 50:12Speaker 3: That was big on the Cam Robinson.
- 50:13Speaker 6: You know, I think the free agent is the Rams
- 50:16Speaker 6: Jackson Aleric Jackson. He plays, I think he's gonna hit
- 50:20Speaker 6: I think he's due to hit free agency too, and
- 50:21Speaker 6: that's maybe another younger option to to conither.
- 50:24Speaker 3: I mean, if they could get me, I wouldn't be
- 50:26Speaker 3: looking to break the bank on Cam Robinson for sure,
- 50:28Speaker 3: but I wouldn't be opposed to a veteran placeholder and
- 50:32Speaker 3: drafting somebody. And then you know, you sort of you know,
- 50:36Speaker 3: you fill it with multiple spots.
- 50:38Speaker 6: Yeah, like even if you can't get multiple guys the
- 50:40Speaker 6: plug and play rookie left tackle, I don't.
- 50:42Speaker 3: Know, which is hard. That's hard to do.
- 50:44Speaker 6: But at least if you get one that you feel
- 50:46Speaker 6: like has some potential in his played left tackle before
- 50:48Speaker 6: and has some athleticism and that you can say, maybe
- 50:51Speaker 6: we can develop this kid, and who knows, maybe Kaden
- 50:53Speaker 6: Wallace comes back. New coaching staff, new scheme, gets it.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Starts to defend the emailer a little bit. If they
- 51:00Speaker 3: want to just go hot and heavy, you know, like
- 51:01Speaker 3: that's all we're gonna worry about, is the offensive line.
- 51:03Speaker 3: I would I would share your concern, and I would
- 51:05Speaker 3: say that that's not the right move. You can't just
- 51:08Speaker 3: decide I'm gonna put all my resources into getting three
- 51:10Speaker 3: or four offensive lineman and think my team is fixed
- 51:13Speaker 3: now they have a lot of holes.
- 51:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll go have one good offensive lineman. No, I
- 51:18Speaker 4: agree that they have one star.
- 51:21Speaker 6: Focus on that beat, but.
- 51:25Speaker 4: You can't. These are all mystery boxes. Like we they
- 51:28Speaker 4: have not proven to be starters at any capacity. So like,
- 51:30Speaker 4: let's just pump the brakes on. They have all these options,
- 51:33Speaker 4: like they have one starter on the offense.
- 51:35Speaker 2: And I'll go back to what we talked about earlier coaching.
- 51:38Speaker 2: Do we have a good offensive line coach?
- 51:39Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Scott Peters first year doing it as the top guy,
- 51:43Speaker 2: was he good, I don't know. I don't know, but
- 51:45Speaker 2: he was given Hopefully somebody knows whether or not he's good.
- 51:49Speaker 2: And whoever you bring in this year for offensive line,
- 51:53Speaker 2: they need to be coached up. They need to be
- 51:55Speaker 2: coached up.
- 51:56Speaker 6: And that's where like my brain kind of goes back
- 51:58Speaker 6: to unfortunately Dante, where you know, he was able to
- 52:01Speaker 6: make chicken salad out of chicken ass, you know, like, and.
- 52:03Speaker 2: There's always competent Yeah, it doesn't always. We didn't always
- 52:06Speaker 2: have the Dallas Cowboys line of the nineties or whatever,
- 52:10Speaker 2: but it was always a competent line. There were a
- 52:12Speaker 2: couple of years where Brady got hit a little bit
- 52:15Speaker 2: too much.
- 52:15Speaker 6: And it always got better too.
- 52:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:17Speaker 6: I think during the course of the session, I beat
- 52:19Speaker 6: that out of my head, like that's just something, and
- 52:21Speaker 6: then he'd fix them.
- 52:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean fix Is that.
- 52:23Speaker 6: Something that just existed kind of within the Patriots bubble.
- 52:26Speaker 6: I don't know enough about other teams offensive line coaches
- 52:29Speaker 6: and their development, but does that happen elsewhere where you
- 52:32Speaker 6: just have a good system and guys kind of coming like, hey,
- 52:34Speaker 6: this undrafted hookies. Actually we've been working behind the scenes
- 52:37Speaker 6: with him and now he's ready to start the next
- 52:38Speaker 6: five years at right guard.
- 52:40Speaker 4: You know two other places that I can think of
- 52:41Speaker 4: off the top of my head. Philly with Statlin, who's
- 52:44Speaker 4: like the other Scarnekia. You know, he's considered in high regard.
- 52:47Speaker 4: And for years, you know, with Callahan and Cleveland, like
- 52:50Speaker 4: those guys were able to just kind of plug and
- 52:53Speaker 4: play and keep going. But a lot of those lines
- 52:55Speaker 4: still have really high investment at a lot of these positions.
- 52:58Speaker 2: I mean, don't think the secret is to a guy
- 53:02Speaker 2: like Callahan, why is he such a good line coach?
- 53:06Speaker 7: What?
- 53:06Speaker 2: What what makes him?
- 53:07Speaker 4: A simplicity? You know, like really narrowing it down to
- 53:11Speaker 4: like the simplistic things. And I think sometimes as much
- 53:14Speaker 4: as we made a big deal out of the strike
- 53:16Speaker 4: system to try to get on board with Scott Peters,
- 53:18Speaker 4: that was one thing I worried about, was like, is
- 53:20Speaker 4: this putting a lot into people's heads, right, Like you
- 53:23Speaker 4: got to think through all these different you know, if
- 53:26Speaker 4: he does this, I do that he did learn under Callahan.
- 53:30Speaker 4: But I think simplicity is a big one, just like
- 53:33Speaker 4: saying this is what you have to do, and this
- 53:35Speaker 4: is you know, the three things you have to worry about.
- 53:38Speaker 4: And repetition, you know, Dante Scarnekia was all about reps.
- 53:42Speaker 4: And they would just rep and rep and rep and rep,
- 53:44Speaker 4: and then you'd get into the game and it would
- 53:46Speaker 4: be just like practice.
- 53:47Speaker 2: And they wanted to do well for him, like they
- 53:49Speaker 2: respected him. They didn't want to let him down.
- 53:51Speaker 4: Yeah, and they and he he would turn it up,
- 53:55Speaker 4: you know, they would. They would. He would practice at
- 53:58Speaker 4: game speed. There was no there was no seventy five
- 54:01Speaker 4: percent with him, right, Like they were practicing at game
- 54:04Speaker 4: speed all the time. And noway there was almost easier
- 54:08Speaker 4: at times in the games than it was in practice.
- 54:11Speaker 2: Let's see this Rob in San Diego via Connecticut. I
- 54:14Speaker 2: was initially a Ben Johnson supporter and wasn't thrilled with
- 54:17Speaker 2: how predetermined the process seemed after the male hiring last year.
- 54:21Speaker 2: At the time, I thought Rabel was a solid but
- 54:23Speaker 2: no exceptional coach and was hoping for an offensive mind
- 54:26Speaker 2: at higher However, after listening to the past few episodes,
- 54:29Speaker 2: I've had a change of heart. Considering where the Patriots
- 54:32Speaker 2: are now, I believe Rabel is the best fit for
- 54:34Speaker 2: the job. On another note, I recently received a bogus
- 54:38Speaker 2: ticket for not coming to a complete stop at a
- 54:40Speaker 2: stop sign. Hearing Paul's story about his ticket and the
- 54:42Speaker 2: advice about hiring a traffic lawyer inspired me to do
- 54:46Speaker 2: the same. I've hired one and we'll update you on
- 54:48Speaker 2: the outcome, something I wouldn't have thought to do without
- 54:51Speaker 2: the show. Lastly, there's a regular caller named Boston Cream,
- 54:56Speaker 2: my favorite kind of donut. My wife hates them, and
- 54:59Speaker 2: we constantly debate whether they even qualify as donuts. Are
- 55:02Speaker 2: pastries with filling really donuts as they are? Aren't donuts
- 55:06Speaker 2: defined by having holes, making a Boston cream the complete
- 55:09Speaker 2: opposite of a donut? Aren't there Boston Cream pies as well,
- 55:14Speaker 2: team donut, but it's a precarious position. Definitely a jelly fill.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Those types of do they are donuts. They are donuts.
- 55:22Speaker 2: Stamp Now, a cruller may not be a don't. I
- 55:25Speaker 2: like a curler a donut past.
- 55:30Speaker 6: I donut has to be round, just a different shape
- 55:34Speaker 6: you mean, like I see round clers like a French craler,
- 55:36Speaker 6: right French if yeah, those are a donut French.
- 55:40Speaker 2: But I'm talking about the stick like a yeah. I
- 55:48Speaker 2: believe the doughnut needs to be wrong.
- 55:51Speaker 6: I like the stick, you know, I don't know. There's
- 55:54Speaker 6: a density to the glazed stick, especially the shoot, like
- 55:57Speaker 6: the butter buttermilk. Is that what they do with the buttermilk?
- 56:00Speaker 6: I don't know, but they're good. I like the sticks.
- 56:03Speaker 2: Uh, Nolan had stop?
- 56:05Speaker 10: I do.
- 56:07Speaker 2: Nolan in California. I gotta be honest. I had mixed emotions.
- 56:10Speaker 2: Was hoping for Ben Johnson. However, listening to you guys
- 56:13Speaker 2: and Mike talk about the culture has me really excited.
- 56:16Speaker 2: I'm the complete opposite of the previous emailer. I'm so
- 56:19Speaker 2: excited hearing coach Mike talk about the trenches and building
- 56:22Speaker 2: our team starts in the trenches. I can't wait to
- 56:25Speaker 2: see what the moves are.
- 56:26Speaker 6: What else I liked about Raybell I didn't realize both
- 56:28Speaker 6: his parents were educators, and the way he talks, it's
- 56:32Speaker 6: you know, a lot of coaches, I feel like they're like,
- 56:35Speaker 6: this is my system, we're gonna get on board. And
- 56:37Speaker 6: you know, from Vrabel so far, we've heard of a
- 56:39Speaker 6: lot of just teaching and empowering players to you know,
- 56:43Speaker 6: to be able to play well. You know, so I
- 56:45Speaker 6: think that is a little bit of that, you know,
- 56:47Speaker 6: new age kind of approach to it. But I just
- 56:49Speaker 6: think the same thing we were talking about the offensive
- 56:51Speaker 6: line coach. It just it comes back to teaching, and
- 56:53Speaker 6: there are certain people who are good teachers and are
- 56:55Speaker 6: able to you know, not only get the point of
- 56:57Speaker 6: cross in a succinct manner that's easily digestible, but you know,
- 57:01Speaker 6: also inspire their players to play hard for them. And
- 57:04Speaker 6: I think I've had coaches in my life that were
- 57:06Speaker 6: some that were really tough and others that were more
- 57:09Speaker 6: you know, you just didn't want to let them down.
- 57:11Speaker 6: And it's like we talk about all the time, there's
- 57:12Speaker 6: so many different ways to do it, but I think
- 57:14Speaker 6: really it's about teaching and you know, That's that's the
- 57:17Speaker 6: core of it.
- 57:18Speaker 3: Fred. Do you ever have a good coach?
- 57:20Speaker 2: I ever? Oh yeah, well my wrestling coaches in the
- 57:24Speaker 2: Wrestling Hall of Fam. Yeah, he was a real good guy.
- 57:29Speaker 3: Why I just figured you had a problem.
- 57:31Speaker 2: I had a lot of coaches I had a problem with.
- 57:33Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I wasn't wrong.
- 57:34Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Oh, I had a lot of coaches I
- 57:36Speaker 2: had a problem with.
- 57:37Speaker 3: Let me tell you why you're not doing it right?
- 57:39Speaker 2: Different in different so Frank I sent to the locker
- 57:41Speaker 2: room once liked.
- 57:42Speaker 6: But you played a lot of individual sports, right, You.
- 57:44Speaker 2: Played like I played basketball, football.
- 57:46Speaker 4: That's what I was going to ask you.
- 57:47Speaker 3: You had a good section of both, like transition to individual.
- 57:51Speaker 2: I did transition to individual because I want to play
- 57:54Speaker 2: all the time.
- 57:55Speaker 11: Well, the difference for you between getting I don't want
- 57:57Speaker 11: to watch anything about difference between an individual sport coach
- 58:01Speaker 11: who was like a one on one that you know,
- 58:03Speaker 11: versus a team coach that I mean, there's a difference.
- 58:06Speaker 2: To worry about other people about me. Yeah, I get that.
- 58:09Speaker 3: It's different.
- 58:10Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean that's you know, it's it's it's a
- 58:13Speaker 6: different style of trying to get something out of one
- 58:16Speaker 6: person rather.
- 58:16Speaker 2: Than remember the team freshman basketball takes me aside and
- 58:19Speaker 2: he goes, you know, you'd be really good if you
- 58:21Speaker 2: could develop a right hand. And I'm in my head,
- 58:24Speaker 2: I'm like, what about all the people that don't have
- 58:25Speaker 2: a left hand. You don't you don't take them aside.
- 58:29Speaker 3: That's the first thought. It's a freshman in high school,
- 58:33Speaker 3: like not like I mean, that's the bugaboo of ninety
- 58:37Speaker 3: nine percent of us who tried to play sports and
- 58:39Speaker 3: weren't good enough. No, I wasn't as good with my
- 58:41Speaker 3: right hand. But friend's like, what what about them?
- 58:44Speaker 12: What?
- 58:45Speaker 3: What do you got prejudice against lefties? Like, screw it,
- 58:48Speaker 3: I'm quitting.
- 58:50Speaker 4: The teaching.
- 58:51Speaker 2: Thing is cool that you're going to start any morning
- 58:53Speaker 2: hand ahead of me because he's got the right hand.
- 58:55Speaker 2: I can go run and and you know, and you.
- 58:57Speaker 3: Know that's you know, that's the guy.
- 58:59Speaker 4: Stars.
- 59:00Speaker 3: They run deep.
- 59:01Speaker 2: They don't heal u Rick and Riverside, Rhode Island. After
- 59:05Speaker 2: reading Evan and Mike's recent articles, I think Graham or
- 59:08Speaker 2: Schwartz would both be great additions to the DC.
- 59:10Speaker 6: Patrick Graham, Jim Schwartz a couple of Patrick.
- 59:15Speaker 4: He's a vrable guy's he was on Vrabel's staff as
- 59:17Speaker 4: a senior assistant for a couple of years and he's
- 59:20Speaker 4: currently the Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator. But we were talking
- 59:23Speaker 4: about this off the air that Cleveland staff is not
- 59:27Speaker 4: for long, you know, like if they don't have a
- 59:28Speaker 4: good year next year, then the fans he's gonna get canned.
- 59:31Speaker 4: If I'm vrable, I'm thinking, Okay, well you can come
- 59:34Speaker 4: here and I'm probably gonna be here for a while
- 59:36Speaker 4: and you're gonna have a job for a while, or
- 59:38Speaker 4: you can be on the Titanic in Cleveland and and
- 59:42Speaker 4: see that ship sink so shortly.
- 59:44Speaker 2: Jim Schwartz has seen it all.
- 59:47Speaker 3: I think he's a good defensive coordinator.
- 59:52Speaker 6: Can I read a quick text for my dad? These
- 59:53Speaker 6: are the kind of texts I get for my dad. Uh,
- 59:55Speaker 6: here's a thought per coward b B was only successful
- 1:00:00Speaker 6: because of Brady and Dante. Once he retired, BB's old
- 1:00:03Speaker 6: line was week two years later. So that's Eddie d
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: chiming in on it.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Listen, I throw we do all that. I think there
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: were certain people that really helped Bill. Yeah, yeah, and
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: it was a trust thing. On offense. I think a
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: VP should remain. Yes, last year was painful, but the
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: Patriots franchise quarterback got better every week until the lack
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: of talent wide receiver and O line became too much.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: He has the Cleveland ties y'all mentioned, Rabel likes, and
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Drake has comfort level with him. I'm concerned with Josh
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: because of stories on how his system is tough to
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: learn from wide receivers. Do you think our wide receivers
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: can handle it? Lovepatriots dot com, thanks for the great content,
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: and please consider adding blue Sky to your social media outreach.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: NFL content slash engagement is growing there with folks like
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: Mina Chimes leading the way. Well, right now, we're not
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: allowed to. We had a account briefly on blue Sky,
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: but the league asked us to take it down because
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: it's not an approved social media platform for the NFL yet.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, so we're ready to go.
- 1:01:08Speaker 3: Let me know what's going on going on over there.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Whenever the league gives us the green light, we'll get
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: back on blue Sky like a good app that posts
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: to both. Because I.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: I'm just too lazy, I like manually.
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: Exactly like I would just want one thing and whatever
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: I do goes everywhere.
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just too like I try to keep up
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: with the Blue Sky when it first came out, because
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: I was getting some traction on there with our articles
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: and stuff. But I just it after a while, I
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: let go the road.
- 1:01:36Speaker 6: It's so hard for a brand because it's like each
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: time a new social media thing comes out, way now
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: we got to do it there too, Like at what
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: point do you start pulling back or just not think?
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: For a brand, though, it is a little bit more
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: complicated because each platform does have a little bit of
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: a different style and so you do need to tailor
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: your content depending on the platform.
- 1:01:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, so that's it's hard. It's just it
- 1:01:55Speaker 6: seems like and now we're doing threads, we gotta find
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: a way to do thread you know, like there's no like,
- 1:02:00Speaker 6: all right, let's just stop chasing it and we're gonna
- 1:02:02Speaker 6: be here and you know, come to the Patriots dot
- 1:02:04Speaker 6: com and that's where the content is.
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: That used to be the way back thirty years ago.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: Fred can't post with his right hand.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know if demanding people come.
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: To you is the way to go and now I know,
- 1:02:14Speaker 6: I just it's it seems like that sometimes the what
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: is it that the cart is leading the horse kind
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: of thing where you're just you're always just chasing, you know,
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: you're chasing engagement, You're chasing where fans are going to be,
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: and you want to give the fans that. But it's
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: it's just like we got a new social mediaut. Let
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: everyone come here now.
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: It's I don't know. Ellen Wisconsin says, I was previously
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: against this, but I've turned it, uh the other way.
- 1:02:35Speaker 2: Bring back Josh. I need to hear my quarterback yelling
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Rita again. Really though, I think he's a good OC
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: and I like that he puts it all on the quarterback.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: I think may can handle it.
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: I wouldn't be supposed to bring an AVP back. I
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: just don't know if there's a marriage there with him
- 1:02:50Speaker 6: and Josh. It just feels like they're two from from
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: two separate backgrounds, and it's hard. It's hard to see
- 1:02:56Speaker 6: the marriage. But you know, maybe if it was somebody
- 1:02:59Speaker 6: more West Coast base that has connections to Alex van Pelte,
- 1:03:03Speaker 6: I do think there's value in keeping around. I just
- 1:03:05Speaker 6: don't know if you take that step back and be like,
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: you know, like I think you said, Evan, like associate
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: coach or so you know, a senior offensive advisor or
- 1:03:12Speaker 6: something like that.
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: That's what I would change. But you're one hundred percent
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: right with Josh and a VP. Like it's like, oh,
- 1:03:18Speaker 4: we're gonna teach Spanish with a German teacher, you know,
- 1:03:21Speaker 4: Like it just doesn't really make much sense in terms
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: of that. But if they hired let's say Nick Kayley,
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: you know from the RAMS, and he comes back, Yeah,
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: and now we have a West Coast play caller offensive
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: coordinator running a West Coast system and a VP is
- 1:03:35Speaker 4: just here to continue to work with Drake on you know,
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: left foot forward and all that kind of stuff, then sure, yeah,
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: Like I think that might be my my favorite pick
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: other than Josh, would be to do something like that.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: Let's go to the TPX hutline eight five to five paths,
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: five hundred Christians in LA. What's up Christian? Christian? Well,
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: I guess he's not there anymore? Is in New York?
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: K Pascal?
- 1:04:03Speaker 10: Hey, how's it going?
- 1:04:04Speaker 13: Guy?
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: Good?
- 1:04:06Speaker 12: So?
- 1:04:06Speaker 10: First thing, first, about the donuts. Apparently, according to Wikipedia,
- 1:04:12Speaker 10: a donut is just a past threemate from Levins fried dough,
- 1:04:15Speaker 10: and so it can be a ring donut or a
- 1:04:17Speaker 10: filled donut. So yeah, both, definitely a donut.
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: Okay, check all right.
- 1:04:23Speaker 10: But what I was calling about was I wanted to
- 1:04:26Speaker 10: push back on something that you guys were talking about
- 1:04:29Speaker 10: last episode about the Patriots being close to the Commanders,
- 1:04:35Speaker 10: and to me, I don't think that the two teams
- 1:04:39Speaker 10: actually were that close. I think that the fact that
- 1:04:42Speaker 10: the Pets had Bill Belichick and the Commanders had Ron
- 1:04:45Speaker 10: Rivera had a pretty big thing to do with it.
- 1:04:50Speaker 10: I think that once both coaches were gone, the Commander's
- 1:04:53Speaker 10: roster was significantly better, and that Bill really really added
- 1:05:01Speaker 10: a lot to what the Patriots were able to do
- 1:05:04Speaker 10: last year, and that their roster was actually much worse.
- 1:05:09Speaker 10: And then on top of that, the Commanders had I
- 1:05:12Speaker 10: think three second round picks and two third round picks.
- 1:05:16Speaker 10: So I just think that the Commander's roster was significantly better.
- 1:05:21Speaker 10: And if the Pats didn't have Bill, then they probably
- 1:05:25Speaker 10: would have been the first overall pick they might have.
- 1:05:29Speaker 10: Who knows how bad they could have been. So I
- 1:05:32Speaker 10: just think that there was a little more of a
- 1:05:34Speaker 10: gap between the two teams than they were kind of
- 1:05:37Speaker 10: giving credit for.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: Yeah, Ron Rivera's two time Coach of the Year, b
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: they were they were about as similar in terms of
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: talent as you can be for two teams. And I
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: just want to like, I don't think anybody said they're
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: close now, Like we were talking about, at the end
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: of the twenty three season, they tied with the second
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: worst record in football. Washington got the second pick, the
- 1:06:05Speaker 3: Patriots got the third based on the strength of schedule stuff.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: They played a game right here in Foxborough that came
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: down to the last possession that there was a deflected
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: pass that got picked off that allowed Washington to win
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: the game. Washington didn't have any stronger of her roster.
- 1:06:22Speaker 3: They added the last part that Pascal said that I
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: agree with. He had, you know, those second and third
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: round pick. They added like four starters in the draft,
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: at least another couple, two, three, four in free agency.
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: Pages didn't do any of that. The Patriots opted to
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: re sign all of the players off that team. Yeah,
- 1:06:41Speaker 3: and this is like one of the things that I said, though,
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: we're running it back, and we're changing the quarterback, but
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: we're running it back. That's why you stayed where you are.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: And they made progress. Now, I did not envision the
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: progress that they made. I'm not going to be a
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: fraud I didn't have any idea that they would win
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: twelve games. The way they did that was a remarkable turn.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: So they have thirteen new starters. I discount thirteen on
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: both from between the two sides of the ball. Some
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: of those are why you're not close now, Yeah, some
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: of those are rookies. Some of those are, you know,
- 1:07:11Speaker 4: just really good free agent signings. Bobby Wagner is like
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: the one example I always come back to. But like
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: Andrew Wiley, who was with the Chiefs the year before,
- 1:07:20Speaker 4: started in the Super Bowl at tackle, Like, these guys
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: aren't household names. Bobby Wagner is, but isn't that type
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: of player anymore? But they those guys are solid, capable,
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: veteran NFL players that just came in.
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: And Peters Peters, Adam Peters.
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: Those guys just came in and were serviceable, were functional starters.
- 1:07:42Speaker 4: And then obviously Jayden Daniels is the one elevating them all.
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: But like, that's that's it, that's it.
- 1:07:47Speaker 6: Right on the draft picks, you hit on your free
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: agency signings, and all of a sudden, you're I mean,
- 1:07:51Speaker 6: how many how many starters did the Patriots add?
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: Add good question? Trying trying to think, yeah.
- 1:08:01Speaker 3: Drake Drake no, you know, beyond the quarterback.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: I mean, I mean not a starter, but he you know,
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: they kind of added him, ye, second Titans, I know.
- 1:08:11Speaker 6: But now it's I mean RB two, you know, I
- 1:08:15Speaker 6: mean some depth guys, second level guy.
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean you did anybody start on defense that
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: wasn't here last year, that wasn't here in twenty three?
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: I mean, like I'm pounding well no, I mean counting
- 1:08:27Speaker 3: twenty four is this year?
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: Well some guys that were on the practice squad last year, you.
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: Know, right, I mean, like the offensive line featured new guys,
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: but I wouldn't call them starters.
- 1:08:36Speaker 6: So no, I mean you could maybe make a case.
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: Of like Ben Brown is, Yeah he's a technically he's
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: a new starter, but yeah he's a practice squad refugee
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: that he picked up in the middle of the season.
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: Maybe white he'd played a little more this year, but
- 1:08:51Speaker 6: I mean that he was here, Yeah, he wasn't an
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: addition this year about the guy star that they brought
- 1:08:57Speaker 6: in that.
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: I think Evans counting thirteen guys weren't on the twenty
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: three Washington Commanders that are starter now do it fourteen?
- 1:09:04Speaker 4: Because I Forgot and Daniels because I was looking at
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: everybody else.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: But you know, I think they could maybe make an
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: argument that there were three guys that started for the
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: twenty four Patriots that weren't on the twenty three team,
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: and that includes Drake May.
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, I mean you have like I made, like
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: Jeremy Chin, Frankie Luvu, Like those guys are not superstar players,
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: but they came in and they play.
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: If they ran it back with the same roster that
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: they had in twenty three and it was just Jayden Daniels,
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: they would not have won twelve games.
- 1:09:32Speaker 6: I wonder how many they wanted to have, you know,
- 1:09:34Speaker 6: like were they expecting Chuks of kora for to step
- 1:09:36Speaker 6: in and be one of those starters, you know.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: But you're also expecting more than Drake May to come
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: out of your draft class and start right like they had,
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: you know, my boy from Everett, Mikey Sandras Still you know,
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: steps in as a second round pick and starts Brandon
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: Coleman third round pick. And these aren't necessarily like great players,
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: but they stepped into starting roles and they you know,
- 1:09:59Speaker 3: they ablished a level that was better than what they had.
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: And also established like they missed on Emmanuel Forbes, it
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: didn't matter right, Like I mean, they missed on the
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: top pick like that, and they drafted and signed well
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: enough that they could overcome.
- 1:10:10Speaker 3: That kind of went out and got Latimore too. Now
- 1:10:13Speaker 3: he's been banged up for them, hasn't played a lot,
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: but that's another guy they didn't have. And I bring
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: up Washington as a source of hope, like it doesn't
- 1:10:22Speaker 3: have to be five years, you can It can happen
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: if you do well and you make some really good
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: personnel moves, it can happen quickly.
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: He gets ye like your your guard that you're talking
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: about earlier, Nick Alighretti, it was the sign from the
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: Chiefs this past season by Washington. He's there, starting left guard.
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: He makes all their line calls and stuff like that,
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: and he's again there's another one.
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: Of those identified guy functional.
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: Starting guards in the league that they're not paying a ton.
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: But you got chookes of corps for who decided to
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: walk away from your team, Which I think that sounds
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: kind of like Paul what you've been pitching.
- 1:10:53Speaker 6: Maybe Vabel does this year that he gets rid of
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: some guys and then he makes some of these kind
- 1:10:57Speaker 6: of signings where it's not overwhelming, but solid guys are.
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: And actually I think they are going to be a
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: handful of players, let's call it, maybe three that would
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: surprise the four of us right now will not be
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: here next year.
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: Yeah, you think any trade bait with any of these guys,
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: Like when Evan was talking about Rabel and people going
- 1:11:17Speaker 6: down to the Senior Bowl and starting to lay the
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: foundation of.
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: You know, I think you can get a second.
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: Run, But some of some of those guys, well, yeah,
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: like they might, Like Kyle Dugger to me, is trade bait,
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: Like he just got a big contract, so maybe you
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: don't want to just release him now. If Rabel says no, no, no,
- 1:11:39Speaker 3: we'll get him back, Doug is going to be fine.
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: He had a bat that ankle bothered him. Like then
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: I'm on board with that too, because I still think
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: Kyle Doug is a good player. I'm not looking to
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: run him out of town. But I can understand if
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: they're looking to get rid of Tavia or Dugger or
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: Pepper's you know, or Godschold, you know, like you got
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: to replace some of these guys too, you know, Kendrick Bourne.
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: I think there are people that are under contract that
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: people would be surprised to find out. Oh wow, they
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: let him go. Huh. I think that's going to happen.
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: I just I can't tell you who they are.
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: James and Brighton UK loved your chat with Rabel the
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: other day and he's definitely grown on me with his
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: banter and football intellect, and I do feel he's going
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: to shake things up. But more importantly, as part of
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: that shakeup, does Rabel have his sight set on Matt
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: Smith's No Socks title? After his introduction and when he
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: was sat with you guys, I couldn't help but notice
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: the trouser to skin ratio was definitely more fleshy than
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: I expected, and I think Matt should be concerned that
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: Rabel is coming for his moniker. He did have socks, though,
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: they were like little socklets or whatever they call.
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: Those hanklets anklets, I don't know.
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: But you couldn't see him. He was showing off a
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: lot of leg I did notice that, but he had
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: socks on.
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: That's an ankle briestlet, it's called.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: I didn't have fleshy, he did have he did have
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: some big Yeah, his foot was like right in my face.
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: He sat the giants a lot of space and then
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: he crossed his legs.
- 1:13:13Speaker 4: Was like, somebody makes you guys look small. Yeah, dude,
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: Well I.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: Heard somebody say, like, you know, he's listed at six four,
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: but he does seem bigger than six four. He's just bigger.
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: You know, it's like Drake doesn't seem as big as
- 1:13:28Speaker 6: Rabel does. Right, probably in the same universe wise.
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: But you know, probably a fifty pound difference.
- 1:13:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel like that's a you know, I was
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: interviewing some of our former players that overlapped with Rabel
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: in Tennessee for a piece, and they a lot of
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: those guys just called him really authentic. And then they're like,
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: there's something about a guy that when he stands up
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: at the front of the room and he's telling you
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: that you have to, you know, go through hell to
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: come out the other side of winter. And but he's
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: clearly done it because he looks the part and he
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: can put up his I guess he likes to put
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: up the touchdowns, the catches. You know, he likes to
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: brag about how he played both sides of the ball
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: and ten for he played tight end was ten for
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: ten and all that kind of stuff. So logan Ryan
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: said that they used to find his low lights and
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: put those up on the screen because he used to
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: pick on them for their low lights. So they'd find
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: his you know, mistackles and stuff like that and put
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: those up. But you know that was you hear that
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: a lot like authentic because you know, he played, he
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: can walk the walk and he can talk to them.
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: He was authentic with us.
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: It felt you know, it just felt conversational.
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: He's very approachable.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: Yeah, you got no food today, Freddy, I did.
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: I don't know where it is. Matt's given me the
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: palms up.
- 1:14:41Speaker 6: It should be here any minute.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: Okay, Sorry, that's fine. I know you're doing your best.
- 1:14:44Speaker 2: Back there, he's making sandwiches. Joe writes in this may
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: be one of Fred's it's not a Super Bowl rematch
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: semantic arguments. But last year wasn't year one of a rebuild.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: This year isn't year one of a rebuild either. The rebuild? Shoot,
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: what did I just do?
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: I agree with this premise.
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: The rebuild window closed with Bill. We need to stop
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: the ra We're just a bad team trying to build something.
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: Switching gears if you're continuing the newsletter throughout the off season,
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: which we are. I have an off season suggestion, Fred's
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: Rules for Life, a random show topic that Fred has
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: a fred amount of rules for one. Example might be
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: zip ups. You can quarter zip or full zip, but
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: no three quarter or half zips. Stains are optional but
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: encourage some Others might include how to order steak and
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: which hats are allowed? We could do that. Rules for Living.
- 1:15:41Speaker 6: Good topicfeeable, Fred's Rules for Living.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: Right after his Gambling Parlance Volume one, picking Winners.
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: Let's see Andrew in La has one for Evan. He says,
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: there is an app that will simultaneously post on multiple applications.
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: It's called call w p h F pronounced wolf w.
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: I've heard of this.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: It's currently in the beta stages. It comes from a
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: company in Pennsylvania. Looks like the next big thing.
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: It's great. So it's great. You're trying to simplify your
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: social media content? Should you need another one and need
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: another app to do that?
- 1:16:20Speaker 6: Opace is coming back.
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: I've heard I've heard of this, though I've heard of
- 1:16:27Speaker 4: not surprisingly, I have see what happened.
- 1:16:29Speaker 6: I'm trying to pull back my social media presence.
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm looking to cut it, cut it back,
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: not expanded.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: Jacket and Abba Wrights best donut by far is the
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: plane cake donut. Only the plane cake donut fresh from
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: the oil, hot oil, that goes perfectly with freshly squeezed
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: apple cider on a crisp October morning at the cider
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: mill in Dexter, Michigan, near ann Arbor. Don't undervalue the basics.
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: A plane donut.
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: I have to.
- 1:16:58Speaker 6: I have to agree with this because there's a play
- 1:17:00Speaker 6: Country Kitchen and Walpole. You guys have probably been there.
- 1:17:01Speaker 6: I'm guessing that, you know, like a small local donut shop,
- 1:17:05Speaker 6: but they have excellent just made, you know, plane donut
- 1:17:08Speaker 6: but kind of have a little crunch to it, like
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: it's well cooked.
- 1:17:11Speaker 4: You ever noticed, like people from sharing, they so overrate
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: all the yeah, Sharon, because they live in a little
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: bubbleberry farm. It's really you got to go to town spot.
- 1:17:24Speaker 6: Don't loop me into that one.
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: I got better pizza.
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: The other one is, uh the creamery that they have
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: over ray ice cream. I've ever had It's ice cream,
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: put some sugar in it.
- 1:17:38Speaker 6: Well, that's my fortunes are large.
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: That's my thoughts on the plane don't glad you feel
- 1:17:42Speaker 4: this way because.
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: I plane donut, because you have your favorite.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: But if you want to have out, you have your
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: cinnamon donut with the apple site.
- 1:17:50Speaker 6: Yes, I like that too. I like that too. I
- 1:17:52Speaker 6: I mean, I live about a half mile from Creston
- 1:17:54Speaker 6: Ridge and so I'm not gonna knock it. But but
- 1:17:56Speaker 6: still ice cream Smuggler's Dennis mask. That's my that's my boove.
- 1:17:59Speaker 6: That's the one.
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: He's not as bad. But you know when you got
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: when I'm out at practice, we have Barth and Aaron.
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: Who are you know to Sharon, you know to their
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: core that towns by yesterday, Like I don't care, like,
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: go eat some real pizza, like get out of your bubble.
- 1:18:16Speaker 6: Pizza, just like Evan was meaning to me, stop watching Charlie,
- 1:18:21Speaker 6: go find some pizza. I like ice cream in college football,
- 1:18:24Speaker 6: and he just won't leave me alone.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: Mark writes in with the hiring of Mike Vrabel this
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: week and with the way he has presented himself, described
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: his vision for the future, explain requirements that will be
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: non negotiable, and pointed out the things that will need
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: to be eradicated from our once proud franchise. For it
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: to be successful. It has all left me feeling genuinely
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: optimistic about what comes next and that he has that
- 1:18:46Speaker 2: unmeasurable talent that some people have to convince anyone that
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: they are capable of great things. How do you view
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: his opening gambit.
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: I think it's like you're thing Fred where I think
- 1:18:56Speaker 6: when we drafted Drake May, You're like, we have hope. Yeah,
- 1:19:00Speaker 6: kind of feel like we have hope at the coaching position.
- 1:19:02Speaker 6: Now I didn't. I didn't feel that.
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: I think that's I think that's very accurate hope.
- 1:19:06Speaker 4: I think you're going to go into games this year
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: feeling like the team is prepared.
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: We're gonna get competent coaching, if not more, at least
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: we're gonna get competent coaching.
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: We're not going to get the walk it back too,
- 1:19:16Speaker 6: you know, you know, well the nerds are on him,
- 1:19:19Speaker 6: so oh really a little bit.
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: I'm interested in that. I want to hear more about that.
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: I'm not telling you that I don't. I think you're right.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: You're not going to get the walk it.
- 1:19:28Speaker 6: Back, but you're gonna get criticism for what he said.
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: And he's not afraid to say stuff. He'll just stand
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: by it and be strong in his convictions. And he
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: won't walk it back. Because do you ever hear you
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: ever watch any of the clips of some of the
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: stuff that he's done, there's some good stuff there. Losing
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: sucks that one where we got but like taking rocket
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: shots at the you know, which is great. Keep everybody
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: on their toes. I have no problem with that, and
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: I have no doubt that I'll be in the crosshairs
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: at least once. You know, that's part of the gig.
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: I mean, you got to you gotta learn to deal
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: with that. But I could see him saying things on
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: Sundays that should be walked back on Mondays.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: But he won't. He won't do it yet, Tony, Before
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: everyone goes crazy about this woof app he says it's
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: a fake. It's from the office.
- 1:20:15Speaker 4: So you know when they said that, I was like,
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: it sounds familiar.
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: And now, but please more. Deuce talking about how he
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: likes glaze sticks. The best doughnut is a chocolate glaze
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: dipped in your coffee dip? Fred, do you have any
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: coffee tastes black? Is the only way to drink it? Correct? Well,
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: this is where I'm going to disappoint you. I'm not
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: a I don't love coffee. I drink it every day,
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: but I have coffee with my cream and sugar, if
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: you know what I mean, Like I have the full
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: cream and sugar, you know, because I don't necessarily love
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: the taste of coffee. So I'm going to disappoint you
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: coffee lovers out there.
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: You're a Celsius guy.
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: I like Celsius. Yea too much of it's not good
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: for you. I mean physically, it's not good for you
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: with the Kelvin what's that?
- 1:21:02Speaker 3: Nothing?
- 1:21:03Speaker 10: Who?
- 1:21:03Speaker 6: You need a little kick in the pants in the morning.
- 1:21:04Speaker 6: Is that what the coffee is just for?
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, I have one coffee a day now,
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: granted it's an extra large from Dunkin Donuts, but I
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: have one a day.
- 1:21:13Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, that's good.
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Like, Paul, do you drink coffee?
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: I don't do coffee.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: Don't drink cop dp you a coffee, You're a Starbars everybody.
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: Everybody.
- 1:21:24Speaker 6: Evan is like, I mean, Evan's been an example for
- 1:21:26Speaker 6: me of like we're on the road and he's like,
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: I need I need Starbucks because if I if I
- 1:21:30Speaker 6: don't get that level of caffeine in me, I'm evan's gonna.
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: Be When you first started, I immediately text my wife
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: a God, the new guy's gonna be good with you
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: looking for Starbucks all the time.
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: And it's just, you know, it's bad because Starbucks, like,
- 1:21:42Speaker 4: once you get hooked on a certain type of coffee,
- 1:21:45Speaker 4: you can't break off. So like when we go on
- 1:21:47Speaker 4: the road and I have to get like something else
- 1:21:49Speaker 4: that's not Starbucks, it just doesn't hit.
- 1:21:51Speaker 2: I'll drink Starbucks, but it's strong.
- 1:21:54Speaker 10: That's what is.
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: I really need a lot of sugar.
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: Well, that's what makes it hard is because it has
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: such a high caffeine count that if you go to
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: someplace else, you're not getting the same amount of caffeine.
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: And it Now, I will say about coffee, decaffeinated coffee
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: right out, it's not coffee. It doesn't taste like coffee.
- 1:22:12Speaker 2: It's terrible. So I have no use for decaffeinated coffee.
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: You thought you weren't going to have coffee takes?
- 1:22:21Speaker 2: Did I had a coffee had a coffee take?
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: Uh?
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: Spiing Fresno. Don't get me wrong, I love the donut talk,
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: but are there really any bad donuts? Are those of
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: you named Fred really so grossed out by Boston cream.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: I don't like Boston cream. I don't. I'm not a
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: big jelly, but it always drips on me like everything else.
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: I think the land of Donuts is generally a delicious
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: place to be. Perhaps planes can be dry, but that's
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: what coffee is for.
- 1:22:49Speaker 3: Maybe that's why I don't like the Plaine donut. I
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: don't drink coffee.
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: You got to have that hot liquid to stick.
- 1:22:56Speaker 4: I'm not a jelly guy.
- 1:22:58Speaker 6: Jelly donuts. I'll any kind of don't like, why are.
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: You mixing that flavor with some with with sugar and sweet.
- 1:23:05Speaker 6: Blob of jelly?
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: Like people that put it like you're not my favorite
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: if you're putting like jam like in between, like the
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: layers of the cake or whatever they do when they
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: do that.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Like no out, hard out, let's see.
- 1:23:24Speaker 4: Sandwich, it'll peel behind the curtain board.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: Simon in New Hampshire, have we lost a soldier? Where
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: is our resident New generation Vibe? No or Alex Weddingmala Yeah, yeah,
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: he says we need an edge in my opinion, now
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: that it could be possible that Carter has gone in
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: the top three, is there any possible free agent edges
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: or do you think we try to acquire that position
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: later in the draft.
- 1:23:59Speaker 6: Joshwat is the guy that Yeah, you know a lot
- 1:24:01Speaker 6: of people on the top of the list.
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: There are a couple out there. Josh Wat's probably the
- 1:24:04Speaker 4: biggest name.
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: Josh.
- 1:24:07Speaker 6: So, would you guys be in favor of Baron Browning maybe.
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: Sinking significant resources into a free agent at that spot, Yeah,
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: I would.
- 1:24:15Speaker 6: I'd be okay with it. But I just I don't
- 1:24:17Speaker 6: really love anything, like none of the guys, and I'm like,
- 1:24:18Speaker 6: oh boy, I gotta get him. It's a it's tough.
- 1:24:22Speaker 6: I think it's a huge need for the team and
- 1:24:24Speaker 6: not just you know, in the draft. I think the
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: draft is pretty good with I mean, it seems like
- 1:24:27Speaker 6: there's a lot of edges in the draft, so you know,
- 1:24:29Speaker 6: maybe you get a developmental guy there, but I think
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: they probably would need to get somebody in free agency.
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: I just I mean, I mentioned Baron Browning just as
- 1:24:35Speaker 6: a guy.
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: Yeah. I just feel like schematically comes like Judon is
- 1:24:39Speaker 4: like one of the few guys that actually worked from
- 1:24:41Speaker 4: that twenty one class, and like, if you can get
- 1:24:43Speaker 4: somebody that can really make an impact like that right away,
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: I think it would go along with Bring Back Jude
- 1:24:48Speaker 4: on low Money.

- 1:26:19Speaker 3: Mike, welcome back.
- 1:26:20Speaker 8: Hey, understanding there will probably a significant amount of overlap.
- 1:26:24Speaker 8: How will your program here differ from the program you
- 1:26:28Speaker 8: played in and then obviously coached against later when Bill
- 1:26:31Speaker 8: was still here.
- 1:26:32Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean it's gonna be all different players, new players,
- 1:26:36Speaker 7: new coaches, some coaches that have remained, and people remember
- 1:26:40Speaker 7: that there are gonna be some things like I'm not Bill,
- 1:26:44Speaker 7: and I'm not Bill Cower. I'm I'm not anyone other
- 1:26:47Speaker 7: than me, And I've taken those experiences and I've tried
- 1:26:51Speaker 7: to form what I believe is critical to the success
- 1:26:56Speaker 7: of a football team and an organization. But you know,
- 1:27:02Speaker 7: to say what those are gonna look like, hopefully just
- 1:27:04Speaker 7: as it's just as successful, you know, and our and
- 1:27:07Speaker 7: our goals will be to win the AFC East, to
- 1:27:11Speaker 7: host home playoff games, and to compete for championships like those.
- 1:27:14Speaker 7: That's what it's gonna take and what the timeline is,
- 1:27:17Speaker 7: just like we say with injuries, like we're not gonna
- 1:27:19Speaker 7: put a timeline on an injury, and we're certainly not
- 1:27:22Speaker 7: gonna put a timeline on what those will be, but
- 1:27:25Speaker 7: that that's gonna be the expectations. And we're gonna work
- 1:27:28Speaker 7: like crazy and we're gonna compete like crazy. We're gonna
- 1:27:31Speaker 7: give the players a plan and and and they're going
- 1:27:34Speaker 7: to form an identity on the field and the way
- 1:27:37Speaker 7: that we're going to play uh and play for each
- 1:27:39Speaker 7: other that they're gonna be proud of. And we're not
- 1:27:42Speaker 7: gonna you know, we just want to be good enough
- 1:27:45Speaker 7: to take advantage of bad football. Like that's where we're
- 1:27:47Speaker 7: gonna start. And that's what I've tried to tell all
- 1:27:51Speaker 7: the players is right now, I don't know if we're
- 1:27:54Speaker 7: good enough to take advantage of bad football. I'm not
- 1:27:56Speaker 7: sure like we're undefeated right now, but if we can
- 1:28:00Speaker 7: just work towards taking advantage of bad football and being
- 1:28:03Speaker 7: good enough to win, somebody makes a mistake capitalizing on
- 1:28:07Speaker 7: it and not being the ones that make the mistakes
- 1:28:09Speaker 7: and focusing on the little things and the details and
- 1:28:13Speaker 7: helping them do their job better.
- 1:28:16Speaker 3: That's a great place to start.
- 1:28:20Speaker 9: Welcome back, Mike, Hi buddy, you don't look much different, Yes,
- 1:28:26Speaker 9: I do. You mentioned you're not Bill. You had a
- 1:28:29Speaker 9: special and unique relationship with him. What does it mean
- 1:28:33Speaker 9: to you, if anything, to follow in his footsteps in
- 1:28:37Speaker 9: this organization?
- 1:28:38Speaker 7: Oh, I mean, I think it is unique obviously, Like
- 1:28:42Speaker 7: let's let's just be real for a minute and just say,
- 1:28:47Speaker 7: you know, having played for him and you know, having
- 1:28:52Speaker 7: a competing against him, and then also having a friendship
- 1:28:57Speaker 7: with Bill right along the way, you know, I think
- 1:29:02Speaker 7: it's it's special. It's unique having played here knowing Bill.
- 1:29:08Speaker 7: But again, we have to focus on things that are
- 1:29:10Speaker 7: going to help us win now, help our players, and
- 1:29:15Speaker 7: like I said, galvanized the building and the team and
- 1:29:18Speaker 7: our fan base. So I think that there's also things
- 1:29:21Speaker 7: I'm gonna try to explain to the players that there's
- 1:29:24Speaker 7: things that are interesting and there are things that are important.
- 1:29:26Speaker 7: I think me having played for Bill is interesting. I
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: just don't know if it's important to help in our players.
- 1:29:34Speaker 7: Terrible Mike, welcome and congratulations. You were the hottest name
- 1:29:41Speaker 7: on the coaching cycle this time around. Presumably you had
- 1:29:45Speaker 7: your pick of jobs, so personally professionally, what really separated
- 1:29:49Speaker 7: this choice among the others, Well, I think that the
- 1:29:51Speaker 7: ability to have open dialogue with Robert and Jonathan with
- 1:29:57Speaker 7: something that was critical Elliott and his staff. Obviously, what
- 1:30:04Speaker 7: I believe and what everybody else believes is a as
- 1:30:07Speaker 7: a young, dynamic quarterback. We have some youth on the roster,
- 1:30:12Speaker 7: We have some veteran players that have kind of seen
- 1:30:14Speaker 7: both sides of it and understand and that will help
- 1:30:17Speaker 7: me and will help our players, you know, get back
- 1:30:22Speaker 7: to that success and understand how hard it is. I
- 1:30:26Speaker 7: do think that we're getting a different style of player,
- 1:30:28Speaker 7: a different, you know, different player to the NFL, you know,
- 1:30:32Speaker 7: one that you know, sometimes guys played four or five
- 1:30:35Speaker 7: years in college in the same place under the same coach,
- 1:30:38Speaker 7: and we don't have a whole lot of behavior to
- 1:30:41Speaker 7: change when they when they got to our league. And
- 1:30:43Speaker 7: I think now with the NIL system that everyone is
- 1:30:47Speaker 7: embracing and I'm all in favor of, but sometimes those
- 1:30:52Speaker 7: players are at a school for six months and they
- 1:30:54Speaker 7: may go to another school and with another leadership style
- 1:30:58Speaker 7: and another structure, and so when they get to our league,
- 1:31:01Speaker 7: there's some behavior that may have to change and we
- 1:31:04Speaker 7: have to be willing to help them change it. And
- 1:31:07Speaker 7: that's okay. This is not an indictment on the college
- 1:31:11Speaker 7: football system. This is just you know, you could go
- 1:31:15Speaker 7: back and get a player from Alabama or Ohio State
- 1:31:18Speaker 7: or notre date where they had been there for four
- 1:31:21Speaker 7: or five years, maybe they red shirted and there was
- 1:31:23Speaker 7: a consistent program and you felt comfortable adding that player. Now,
- 1:31:29Speaker 7: you know, like I say, car to keep track of
- 1:31:32Speaker 7: where they went to school, and so that's not easy.
- 1:31:36Speaker 7: But what we're willing to do to help those players
- 1:31:38Speaker 7: that need to have some of those things changed and
- 1:31:41Speaker 7: the commitment to the team, Like, we're willing to do that.
- 1:31:46Speaker 15: Hey, Mike back middle here, Hey, welcome back, Thank you.
- 1:31:50Speaker 15: Looking forward to all our future news conferences together.
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: There's going to be more, I think so. I think
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: the league makes you do a few of them. I
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: hear they're fun too.
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: I'm just curious.
- 1:32:01Speaker 15: One thing you've learned in your first experience from being
- 1:32:03Speaker 15: a head coach that you want to make sure you
- 1:32:04Speaker 15: apply to your second time around.
- 1:32:08Speaker 7: Oh, I mean I think there's so much I think
- 1:32:10Speaker 7: just this connection piece man getting to know these players,
- 1:32:15Speaker 7: and we're gonna put so many points of contact around
- 1:32:17Speaker 7: our players that I understand that I'm gonna have a
- 1:32:19Speaker 7: different relationship with some players than I do others. Right,
- 1:32:25Speaker 7: I'm gonna have it. I'm gonna have a relationship with
- 1:32:26Speaker 7: every single one of them. But then there's gonna be
- 1:32:29Speaker 7: other ones that may may not be as strong, but
- 1:32:31Speaker 7: they're gonna be with the position coach. And you know,
- 1:32:34Speaker 7: we're not gonna have a whole lot of rules. We're
- 1:32:36Speaker 7: gonna start with with being on time and being respectful
- 1:32:42Speaker 7: and being able to communicate like anybody else without outside
- 1:32:46Speaker 7: this building. If you were late for an appointment, uh,
- 1:32:49Speaker 7: if you had something going on that We're gonna have
- 1:32:51Speaker 7: people that are around the players for them to be
- 1:32:53Speaker 7: able to trust and say, hey, I've got this going
- 1:32:56Speaker 7: on and I've tried to do this in Tennessee that
- 1:32:59Speaker 7: if somebody will walks in the door at seven forty
- 1:33:01Speaker 7: five and they just you know, there's something on their
- 1:33:04Speaker 7: face that they're wearing, something they're holding onto, something that
- 1:33:07Speaker 7: something's not right. I would rather give that player thirty
- 1:33:10Speaker 7: minutes or forty five minutes whatever, however much amount of
- 1:33:13Speaker 7: time that he needs to take care of a situation,
- 1:33:16Speaker 7: then the seven hours that he's going to waste wearing
- 1:33:18Speaker 7: it through the day. And I want to provide as
- 1:33:21Speaker 7: many points of contact with the players so that they
- 1:33:23Speaker 7: feel comfortable. And if that's coming to me, great, If
- 1:33:26Speaker 7: that's coming to Elliott, great, if that's coming to our
- 1:33:28Speaker 7: strength coach, or that's coming to our position coach, whoever
- 1:33:32Speaker 7: that may be. I want them to have as many
- 1:33:35Speaker 7: relationships in the building that they feel comfortable saying that
- 1:33:38Speaker 7: you know, something's not right, or I need to communicate,
- 1:33:41Speaker 7: or I'm going to be fifteen minutes like whatever it is.
- 1:33:43Speaker 7: So I think that that's critical that we teach them
- 1:33:47Speaker 7: some of those things that you know, there's more people
- 1:33:50Speaker 7: that they impact than just themselves.
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: And now great moments in history.
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: He's in Manchester, New Hampshire.
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: What's up, Manny Manichester the podcast At.
- 1:34:06Speaker 16: One point time Paul called Still a mediocre coach.
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: Oh no, no, no, no no, I did not stop it.
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: Stop it. You're embarrassing yourself. I just today, but anyway,
- 1:34:21Speaker 3: I did not call it Bill a mediocre coach. I'm
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: sorry that it was taken out of context. That's like
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: Fred said that he doesn't think that mac Jones is
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: very good. That's not what he meant.
- 1:34:31Speaker 12: He was.
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: It was something about something different. I've never thought of
- 1:34:34Speaker 3: Bill as a mediocre coach, and I've never said that
- 1:34:36Speaker 3: he's a mediocre coach. Sorry, I might have said. I
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: might have said something like this, if you want to listen,
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: He's had eight plus years without Tom Brady as his
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: as his quarterback, and in those years he's been a
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: mediocre coach. That's what you said. That's what I said.
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: I remember that.
- 1:34:52Speaker 16: Oh, that's what I was referring to call him a mediocre.
- 1:34:54Speaker 6: Coach then without Tom Brady, very very important qualifier.
- 1:34:58Speaker 16: There, Manny Wow, I think then everybody's a media co
- 1:35:01Speaker 16: coach because Brady.
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: Then anyway, and he reads and he reads. Not a
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: mediocre coach, A good point caller. That's another great moment, all.
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: Right back here and Patriots until off the top. I
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: was just waiting to shine man at the end there.
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: Eight five five Pass five hundred is a TPX hotline
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: podcast at Patriots dot com. Is the email address. A
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: lot of good talk today, little of it about football,
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: not only kidding. We're doing everything today. It's an off
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: season Moen Vermont and New York says, tell Fred to
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: quit the Celsius. Read the nutritional facts on the side.
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: It has arsenic in it, so yeah, too much makes
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: it feel sick, no joke. But it also has good.
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: Stuff in it, right, just let in the paint?
- 1:35:45Speaker 2: Is that bad? Yeah? Doesn't it always also have like
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: all these good vitamins in it and everything like that.
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: If you like it, Fred, don't let them, don't don't
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: let them stop you from drinking.
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: Matthew said, is alpha comes before beta testing? Evan shaking
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: my head. I thank you, thank you, Paul and Illinois says,
- 1:36:09Speaker 2: it took you two weeks, but we're finally into some
- 1:36:11Speaker 2: real offseason talking shows. Enough of these serious, practical discussions
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: of why Mayo was fired or who will be the
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: new coach, or who will Rabel's corodners be. We're onto
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: donuts and coffee, Jaws, Star Wars and the like. When
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: is the next we'll take Josh talking? We might we
- 1:36:28Speaker 2: might do a karaoke contest here the warming up. Yeah,
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: you're you're involved.
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: I can't sing.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: You have a song that you could sing, you know,
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: you do. Yeah, an Earth Wind and Fire song or
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: something like that. Yeah, I can't do it.
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: You do not want to hear me sing?
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: No, that's why we want to hear you sing. You know.
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: Tonight?
- 1:36:57Speaker 2: There you go.
- 1:36:59Speaker 3: Spice of.
- 1:37:02Speaker 2: Marco from Mexico writes in something that's been intriguing me
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: lately since I heard that McDaniels is being mentioned as
- 1:37:09Speaker 2: candidate for OC in terms of reputation, do you think
- 1:37:13Speaker 2: that the fact McDaniels currently has a bad reputation among
- 1:37:17Speaker 2: players due to what happened during his tenure in Oakland
- 1:37:20Speaker 2: could have an impact when it comes to signing free agents.
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: Could it affect prospects not wanting to join New England
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: because just because Josh is the OC. I think that
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: could be an issue. But I would like to know
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: what you guys think.
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: I mean, maybe, but I would say any of those
- 1:37:36Speaker 6: players that would be like that, you probably don't want anyway.
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: Oh, I wouldn't say that, But I don't necessarily think
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: that's the deciding factor over money. I think if you
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: want to give guys money, they're gonna come.
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: I also think that people can separate that he's not
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: a head coach here, right, he's going to be the
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: offensive coordinator. And as an offensive coordinator, his resume speaks
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: for itself of how he's you know, been able to
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: use guys and adapt and morph into different offenses based
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: off his personnel. So if you're an offensive player, I
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: would say that, Okay, this guy is going to know
- 1:38:09Speaker 4: how to use me. He's going to you know, figure
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: out ways to get me the ball if you're a receiver,
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: and Rabel will take care of the culture.
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: I mean, like, just as an example, Mike, just to
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: come back at you because I don't I don't argue
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: with you nearly enough.
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: No, you don't. We need to stop.
- 1:38:23Speaker 6: That's going, right, What.
- 1:38:26Speaker 3: I would just say for an argument take And I
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: have no idea how this individual feels about Josh McDaniels.
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: But like if Jacoby Myers were a free agent and
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: he said, well, I'm not going to New England because
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: Josh McDaniels is there. I played for him in Vegas
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: and it was terrible, you know, like that's not like
- 1:38:41Speaker 3: the wrong guy.
- 1:38:42Speaker 6: No, only played play with him here too.
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: Right, No, I'm just just brought him up as an
- 1:38:46Speaker 3: example of a guy in the Raiders.
- 1:38:47Speaker 6: Right, Well, I think that's ridiculous.
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: It's a hypothetical.
- 1:38:50Speaker 6: Sorry, I'm trying to argue with you. No, I I
- 1:38:52Speaker 6: get it, but I think, you know, some of the
- 1:38:54Speaker 6: reasons that guys weren't happy with Josh McDaniels and in
- 1:38:59Speaker 6: Vegas might have been stupid, and the.
- 1:39:01Speaker 3: Fact that they're not going to might have been on
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: the players. They're not gonna cut.
- 1:39:06Speaker 6: It here, even under a Mike Vrabel regime, much less
- 1:39:09Speaker 6: you know, Josh is running it all.
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: So I just wouldn't shut myself off to all players
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: who think that Josh mcgingals didn't do well, Yeah, that's
- 1:39:16Speaker 3: not all the player's fault, that's all.
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: No, that's that's fair. I but still I don't. I
- 1:39:20Speaker 6: think ultimately it's Mike Vrabel's team and Josh's resume speaks
- 1:39:23Speaker 6: for itself. And you know, if guys were like, well,
- 1:39:26Speaker 6: I mean it was great after we left. We were
- 1:39:27Speaker 6: smoking cigars and stuff, and I like that.
- 1:39:29Speaker 3: Better, you know, like whatever, but how that work out?
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: He's still he still has that that old Patriots fan.
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: Well that's what they're interested in.
- 1:39:37Speaker 2: Yeah, how that work out? Ye get them. You know,
- 1:39:43Speaker 2: we like lots of guys, we like smoking cigars after
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: Champion with.
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: The last three years. But you know, we love to
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: smoke a cigar at some point, but we don't get
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: to do that anymore now.
- 1:39:56Speaker 6: I thought Michael Lombardy made a great point about that
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: as well. So I'll stick on.
- 1:39:59Speaker 3: Smoking street, say no, somebody the guy.
- 1:40:03Speaker 6: Somebody brought it up and he was like, I mean
- 1:40:05Speaker 6: they were smoking the guards and there we got a
- 1:40:06Speaker 6: culture that they have that's not the Patriot where he
- 1:40:08Speaker 6: did a whole thing. So that's why I brought it
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: up for Paul's benefit.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: I knew he was.
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: My larger point would just be don't close yourself off
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: to people, you know, for those kinds of reasons. Superficial
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: It's fine.
- 1:40:20Speaker 6: I mean, then how many guys in Vegas do you
- 1:40:22Speaker 6: really want anyway? Like, I mean, is it which guys.
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: Like I don't think this is a big deal because
- 1:40:28Speaker 3: I think in free agency it comes down to money.
- 1:40:31Speaker 3: This isn't about Raiders. It's not about X Raiders. It's
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: about people around the league that talk and they're like,
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: this guy is a colossal a hole. Now you don't
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: want to play for him, Like it doesn't have to
- 1:40:41Speaker 3: be a raider.
- 1:40:42Speaker 6: Did it hurt him after Denver, Like that's a question.
- 1:40:45Speaker 6: I mean, I'm not I'm not saying I say yes
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: or no. I just because you already kind of had
- 1:40:48Speaker 6: that experience where he came in and had, you know,
- 1:40:50Speaker 6: when people were.
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: Coming back in the midst of a dynasty. You don't
- 1:40:56Speaker 3: have that anymore. Now I have my choice. If I
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: want to win games, I don't have to go there
- 1:41:00Speaker 3: if I want to win games, right.
- 1:41:02Speaker 6: Yeah, No, I've always ask you a question.
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: And again, I don't know. I think the emailer is
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: probably worried about something that's maybe a little far fetched
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: because I think if T Higgins wants to sign with
- 1:41:15Speaker 3: New England, it's gonna cost you a lot of money.
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: It's not gonna cost you any more money. I don't
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: think because Josh McDaniels is here, it's gonna call. You're
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: gonna have to obid other teams because people are gonna
- 1:41:24Speaker 3: be interested in T. Higgins. For the Chargers, by the way,
- 1:41:27Speaker 3: is one of those teams. Now, you're gonna be hard
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: for us to outbid the Chargers because that's a better
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: team right now, with a coach that is already established
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: a playoff level roster. That's that's gonna be hard.
- 1:41:39Speaker 6: Yeah, I think those players. I mean it's money at
- 1:41:41Speaker 6: the top. Then it's a little vable, it's a little drake.
- 1:41:43Speaker 6: May you know Josh is part of this too. Maybe
- 1:41:46Speaker 6: if you didn't have the greatest impression of Josh, or
- 1:41:48Speaker 6: you've heard things that you're necessarily maybe worried about, you
- 1:41:51Speaker 6: got to take take all.
- 1:41:52Speaker 12: Of it in.
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: All right, A couple more emails before we get the picks.
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: Ell says, I'm a pretty big fan of Evan's ball knowing,
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: but wow, each food take is somehow worse than the last.
- 1:42:02Speaker 3: What you have a bad food take today?
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: And then Dan and Virginia Michigan. Probably once again the
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: boss Man has it right with his opinion about decaffeinated coffee.
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: It's like non alcoholic beer. What's the point?
- 1:42:14Speaker 3: I totally agree with the non alcoholic.
- 1:42:18Speaker 4: Be No, that's probably what is the point.
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: I just don't find I have.
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: Some apple juice or something.
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: I mean, you know, have some water. It's not tasty enough.
- 1:42:26Speaker 6: Some people, really, have you ever tasted I've never even tasted.
- 1:42:29Speaker 3: It tastes the same kind of tastes the same.
- 1:42:34Speaker 2: I'm not sure some of the good ones are oduls
- 1:42:37Speaker 2: is old duels.
- 1:42:39Speaker 3: To me, taste just like you know regular, I just
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: I'm not a huge beer if you want to drink it.
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: You know, I play a role in the show. I'm
- 1:42:45Speaker 3: not really a huge beer drinker. But what like the taste? Like,
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: do you love the taste of beer?
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: Some beer?
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: A lot of people do. I'm not telling you that
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: you're not out there.
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: I p as another take out out. It's not I
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: PA is for people who don't like beer.
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: I actually don't. I really love the taste of beer.
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: I don't either.
- 1:43:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I drink it like I like Sam Adams,
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: like if I had to pick a beer. But I'm
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: not like a big beer guy.
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: But some people, like I have friends that literally drink beer,
- 1:43:16Speaker 3: like like you can't. They can't get them enough, Like
- 1:43:19Speaker 3: they just love beer, And I'm just like, it doesn't
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: really taste that good to me. I drink it because
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: it's fun.
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: You get if you ever had mead mead No, No.
- 1:43:29Speaker 6: This is the sixteen hundred.
- 1:43:31Speaker 4: Type of people annoy me beer. People that love beer
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: like they like I like, Okay, I love you, don't
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: you love the idea?
- 1:43:40Speaker 12: Lately?
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: Drunk kind of off beer lately because it's so filling
- 1:43:43Speaker 2: now for.
- 1:43:44Speaker 6: Me, especially the I pas that's saying those things are
- 1:43:46Speaker 6: like eating a loaf of bread.
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: That's why like hens and all the selters.
- 1:43:50Speaker 2: Is the first thing I learned from a very competent waiter.
- 1:43:53Speaker 2: You know, people tend to think, oh, you pour beer
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: down the side so that it doesn't get a lot
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: of head. That's the wrong way to pour beer, because
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: it's keeping in all the whatever they call it, and
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: it makes you more. You know, filter port right down
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: the middle so it releases all the nitrogen or whatever
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: it is, and then you know it's better for you
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: don't get filled a quickly.
- 1:44:16Speaker 6: I feel like Paul does, Like there are certain people
- 1:44:19Speaker 6: are typing a beer just is perfect.
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:44:22Speaker 6: I would say, like one PM game here we do
- 1:44:25Speaker 6: our thing, watch the game, I get home, you know
- 1:44:27Speaker 6: whatever it is watching the night game, and like some
- 1:44:30Speaker 6: days there's like, man, there's nothing better than just the
- 1:44:32Speaker 6: nice beer. Worked hard today watching the games. Same with
- 1:44:35Speaker 6: SODA's like sometimes I just gotta have a soda.
- 1:44:37Speaker 2: Like down it's a su it harbor, go down to
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: the clamshat, nice warm sunny day. Steamers. Oh there's nothing better.
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: I told beer and steamers is.
- 1:44:47Speaker 6: The best looking out at the ocean with your soulmate.
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: But whether or not I have my soulmate?
- 1:44:53Speaker 3: Did you?
- 1:44:54Speaker 2: Did you?
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: You didn't read this stuff yet?
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: Did you?
- 1:44:56Speaker 3: What on the newsletter? No?
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: Oh I, it's a good one for you. All right,
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: all right, it's that time. I'll get to the callers.
- 1:45:07Speaker 3: After hang on.
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: We'll hang on, all right. We have four games and
- 1:45:14Speaker 2: a college game to talk about.
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: So last week, uh, three way tie Mike, Alex, Paul
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: five and one, Evan four and two, and Fred three
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: and three. You know Fred's he likes to push the
- 1:45:32Speaker 3: envelope and taking some swings, take some swings. None of
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: them hit with the spread. Same three Mike, Alex, Paul
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: four and two, Fred and Evan two and four.
- 1:45:46Speaker 2: That's just poor to me.
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: Evan retired after you.
- 1:45:52Speaker 3: We could pick the four games and then we'll do
- 1:45:54Speaker 3: the call.
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: Did I have a lock last week?
- 1:45:56Speaker 3: You did? But it was college you won your lock?
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: I won Ohio State.
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: Lock was Ohio State and that they were minus six
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: they won by fourteen.
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: I think, yeah, So you know, I have to be
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: very diligent with my locks because a lot of people depend.
- 1:46:13Speaker 3: On So yeah, just to let everybody know, Mike and
- 1:46:16Speaker 3: Alex went to and zher and the rest of us
- 1:46:20Speaker 3: went one and one, and that was the same with
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: the spread in overall.
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: That's because I keep picking against Notre Dame, all right,
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: I always pick up for the postseason.
- 1:46:27Speaker 6: That's one of my best.
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: Like, Okay, So we'll do the NFL games first, and
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: then the bonus pick will be Monday nights National Championship.
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: We'll start with Saturday four thirty ESPN, ABC, ESPN Plus,
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: ESPN Deportes the ten and seven Texans against the fifteen
- 1:46:45Speaker 2: and two Chiefs.
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: So do you think there's a reason why they continue
- 1:46:48Speaker 3: to put Houston in the four thirty Saturdays.
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: Right in every game?
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: All the market like why all their players?
- 1:46:55Speaker 6: They want to watch them?
- 1:46:57Speaker 3: So Kansas City by eight and a half. Wow, that's
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: a big number, a big number. Mike.
- 1:47:03Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm gonna take Kansas City. And I know they
- 1:47:06Speaker 6: haven't really done a great job covering this year, but
- 1:47:08Speaker 6: I'm gonna I'm gonna have them cover this one.
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: I think.
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: Uh, I just have a hard time believing that Houston's
- 1:47:13Speaker 6: gonna mount much. Although I was really surprised with how
- 1:47:15Speaker 6: they played last week. That was the one game I
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: think I lost was was this one, So I think
- 1:47:19Speaker 6: we all all been on the Chargers, but I don't
- 1:47:23Speaker 6: think they got it two weeks in a row on
- 1:47:25Speaker 6: the road in Kansas City. I'm gonna take the Chiefs
- 1:47:27Speaker 6: a light of points.
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't have Alex's pick, so we'll have to
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: get those at another time.
- 1:47:31Speaker 4: Evan, I'm gonna go with the Chiefs, but I'm going
- 1:47:35Speaker 4: to take the Texans to cover this spread because I
- 1:47:37Speaker 4: think that Texans pass rush last week was just unstoppable,
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: and the Chiefs offensive line, especially their tackle plays, has
- 1:47:44Speaker 4: been an issue for them all season long. And I
- 1:47:47Speaker 4: do think that the Chiefs have to pull this one
- 1:47:50Speaker 4: out late like they have all its season.
- 1:47:52Speaker 6: But I would love this. I hope it's hope this.
- 1:47:55Speaker 4: I think there is a chance though that a lot
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: of these games, like the nice wild card weekend teams
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: that won last week, they go up against the big
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: boys this week and get smoked could happen.
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm with Evan. I think Kansas City wins the game,
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: and I don't think it will necessarily be in doubt
- 1:48:12Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter, but I'll take the point.
- 1:48:14Speaker 2: Do we have a health report, like any team missing
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: any notable people in the city.
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: Seems like they're as healthy as they've been.
- 1:48:22Speaker 2: All well, I'm going to go with the Chiefs both ways.
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: You can talk about the Texans defense all you want,
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: but the Chiefs defense is why they're fifteen to two.
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: Stri It's del Rio not anymore. But but I am
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: going to take the Chiefs to cover and get one
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: step closer to that three peat which cannot happen. Cannot happen?
- 1:48:42Speaker 3: Is that the thing that you least want to happen,
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: Like Buffalo winning would kill you. I would say, yes,
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: you know, yes, Kansas City.
- 1:48:51Speaker 2: So the question is I'd rather have Buffalo win a
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: Super Bowl or the Chiefs three peat Baltimore. Like you
- 1:48:56Speaker 2: hate a lot of Baltimore, I could be all right
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: with them. So the thing that you'd least like to
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: happen would be Buffalo winning.
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: Buffalo winning, Oh really.
- 1:49:05Speaker 2: Again, against the laws of nature.
- 1:49:07Speaker 4: I think it's the mafia right, Like the mafia.
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: Is, then they would have something to say, only what Yeah,
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: I can't get to be.
- 1:49:14Speaker 3: Alright with any of these eight teams. I probably would
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: least like to see Philadelphia win because you don't care
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: as much as I.
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: I'm pulling for Baltimore. I want them. I want Lamar
- 1:49:23Speaker 4: to get his It's super.
- 1:49:25Speaker 3: Cool if like Detroit wanted, but I never could. I
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: think I don't have the hatred in my heart that
- 1:49:30Speaker 3: you guys do.
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: Would be Detroit.
- 1:49:32Speaker 2: I love to hate one.
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: Detroit Baltimore in the Super Bowl would.
- 1:49:35Speaker 2: Be all right. Saturday, nine, eight o'clock Fox, Fox deportes
- 1:49:39Speaker 2: the twelve and five Commanders at the fifteen and two Lions.
- 1:49:43Speaker 3: Detroit by nine and a half.
- 1:49:45Speaker 2: Big spreads, big.
- 1:49:47Speaker 6: That is a big one, big spread.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: I gotta go to the Sharps.
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: I gotta go with Detroit at home. But you know,
- 1:49:53Speaker 6: I just I think there's something special in Washington. I
- 1:49:55Speaker 6: think they'll go in, they'll play loose, and uh, you
- 1:49:58Speaker 6: don't think Detroit's defense has had some So I'll pick
- 1:50:01Speaker 6: Washington to cover that one. I think they kind of
- 1:50:03Speaker 6: hang with him and put up some points. But I
- 1:50:04Speaker 6: think Detroit will win the game. I don't like either
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: of these first two games. Like Sunday's the games Sundays
- 1:50:09Speaker 6: of the games to watch like these two games, I
- 1:50:10Speaker 6: don't know. I hope they're competitive and watchable.
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: But are gonna go Detroit? Detroit? I think this is
- 1:50:15Speaker 4: one of those games where nice little win for the
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: Commanders on wild Card weekend, but then you go up
- 1:50:21Speaker 4: against a big boy like the Lions and get smoked
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: in the divisional round.
- 1:50:25Speaker 3: I'm with Evan again. I think the same way. I
- 1:50:28Speaker 3: feel Washington's defense will not be able to really hold
- 1:50:33Speaker 3: up against the Lions attack.
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: Yeah, nine and a half, they're trying to bring in
- 1:50:37Speaker 2: the Washington money. It's not coming. Lions both ways playoff points.
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: So now we move to Sunday to.
- 1:50:46Speaker 3: Look back at my glossary with playoff points.
- 1:50:48Speaker 2: Man Sunday at three pm Eastern Time on NBC, Peacock, Telemundo,
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: and Universo, the ten and seven Rams are at the
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: fourteen to three Eagles Philly by six man playoff points.
- 1:51:07Speaker 6: I think I'm trying to pick this one with my
- 1:51:10Speaker 6: head because my heart loves what the Rams have done
- 1:51:12Speaker 6: on defense, and I just like watching them. I think
- 1:51:14Speaker 6: they're just aggressive and it's but you could say the
- 1:51:17Speaker 6: same thing about the Eagles defense. Too aggressive and fun
- 1:51:20Speaker 6: to watch, but you know, big injury with the Kobe Dean.
- 1:51:23Speaker 6: I'll take Philly to win, but I'll take the Rams
- 1:51:25Speaker 6: to keep it close and cover.
- 1:51:28Speaker 4: I'm taking the upset. I'm taking the Rams in this game.
- 1:51:31Speaker 4: The Eagles offense just still doesn't seem right outside of
- 1:51:34Speaker 4: Saquon Barkley to me, and I think they're gonna have
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: to score some points in this game to win, and
- 1:51:38Speaker 4: I'm just not very confident in their ability to do that.
- 1:51:42Speaker 4: And I also think that as great as Fan Gio
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: is for the Eagles, going up against the coordinator that
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: kind of does what he does and has a system
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: and all that kind of stuff, that spells to me
- 1:51:53Speaker 4: that Sean McVay is going to have some things cooked
- 1:51:56Speaker 4: up for the Fangio scheme. So I'm taking the Rams.
- 1:51:59Speaker 3: I like the way he says, fine from the stand of.
- 1:52:06Speaker 6: You see what you did, I do impressions of what
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: Fred does. I don't know who that's supposed to be.
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: I think we all know I am. I am with
- 1:52:14Speaker 3: Mike on this one. I will take the Eagles to win.
- 1:52:16Speaker 3: I was very impressed with their defense last week, but
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: I'll take the Rams to cover. And I definitely give
- 1:52:23Speaker 3: the Rams a legitimate chance to pull off the road
- 1:52:26Speaker 3: just a little too much.
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: I think I haven't I haven't trusted the Eagles all year.
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: They keep winning but I haven't trusted them. I'm going
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: to say the Rams win this game, out right, I think,
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: and I'm going to make the covering of it the
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: lock of the week, not the win, not the outright win.
- 1:52:45Speaker 4: What I'm saying I put the.
- 1:52:48Speaker 3: Was getting six Rams plus six is.
- 1:52:52Speaker 2: The lock of the week here, folks.
- 1:52:54Speaker 6: So you know what I want to make money.
- 1:52:56Speaker 2: If you want to make money, that mortgage is college
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: fun whatever you got six thirty on Sunday evening on
- 1:53:04Speaker 2: CBS in paramount plus the twelve and five Ravens are
- 1:53:08Speaker 2: at the thirteen and four bills.
- 1:53:12Speaker 3: What a game.
- 1:53:13Speaker 6: That's a good one. I'm gonna settle in.
- 1:53:15Speaker 3: Oh sorry, but Baltimore by one and a half.
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: This will be a beer game for me. I think
- 1:53:19Speaker 6: you know, I have a sit down the beer. Did
- 1:53:21Speaker 6: you say Baltimore by one?
- 1:53:22Speaker 3: An Baltimore?
- 1:53:23Speaker 2: You heard him right, and you should take a double take.
- 1:53:26Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:53:27Speaker 3: So I thought it was funny that, you know, like
- 1:53:29Speaker 3: the whole like the FPI index that I always make
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: fun of. So Baltimore is favored by one, and it
- 1:53:35Speaker 3: says Buffalo fifty percent chance to win. That's what it
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: keeps putting.
- 1:53:39Speaker 6: On the score on he says close as close can be,
- 1:53:42Speaker 6: even for the Sharps. Sharps don't know what to do, man,
- 1:53:46Speaker 6: I don't really know what to do. I feel like
- 1:53:47Speaker 6: it's a coin flip kind of game. I know a
- 1:53:49Speaker 6: lot of like Evan said, a lot of people want
- 1:53:51Speaker 6: to see Lamar get it this year. If not this year,
- 1:53:53Speaker 6: when when will Lamar get it? I just I can't
- 1:53:57Speaker 6: pat against Buffalo at home. I really can't do it.
- 1:53:59Speaker 6: So I'm gonna take I'm gonna take Buffalo in the
- 1:54:01Speaker 6: home as the home dog. I think that place is
- 1:54:04Speaker 6: gonna be rocking. And I think this would be a
- 1:54:05Speaker 6: great game back and forth. And I like Josh Allen
- 1:54:08Speaker 6: to make a little bit of a statement and you know,
- 1:54:10Speaker 6: show he has the edge as the MVP this year.
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: I can't pick this game. It's like picking between It's
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: a great game. It's like picking I just hope it.
- 1:54:21Speaker 3: Zero.
- 1:54:21Speaker 4: I don't know. I just love both these quarterbacks a lot.
- 1:54:25Speaker 4: I think these are the two best quarterbacks in the
- 1:54:26Speaker 4: league outside of my homes. Ah, man, I'm gonna I'm
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: gonna lean towards Baltimore. I am just a little bit
- 1:54:33Speaker 4: more uh confident, and both sides of the ball for them.
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: I just feel like they're a little bit more of
- 1:54:39Speaker 4: a buttoned up team right now. But I could see
- 1:54:42Speaker 4: this going either way, but I'll take the Ravens.
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree with both of your assessments. I could
- 1:54:48Speaker 3: see a great argument to be made both sides. I'm
- 1:54:51Speaker 3: gonna go with Buffalo A little bit of a hard pick.
- 1:54:53Speaker 3: I just I'm kind of rooting for Josh Allen. I
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: know Lamar hasn't won either, and I wouldn't be upset
- 1:54:58Speaker 3: if he won because that I think greatness sometimes should
- 1:55:02Speaker 3: be recognized for being great, and I think too often,
- 1:55:06Speaker 3: you know, if you don't win it all, you're not
- 1:55:08Speaker 3: that right, you know, like Dan Marino is not as
- 1:55:10Speaker 3: good as Plus.
- 1:55:12Speaker 2: You want to block Patriots fans.
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: Well, there's not really, there's nothing really to block.
- 1:55:18Speaker 2: It's like if I wanted to block.
- 1:55:19Speaker 3: Patriots fans would be all Kansas City all the time.
- 1:55:21Speaker 3: I'd be rooting for the three P right, That's right.
- 1:55:23Speaker 3: Isn't that the biggest block?
- 1:55:25Speaker 6: I think?
- 1:55:26Speaker 2: Yeah? Maybe, like it's not.
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: I I like Josh Allen and I like Lamar Jackson.
- 1:55:31Speaker 3: I think that they should be able to win a title.
- 1:55:35Speaker 3: So I'm rooting for those guys to win. I'll probably
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: be rooting for the winner of this game next week
- 1:55:39Speaker 3: no matter what.
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: I'm rooting for the Bills to lose. Uh. And I'm
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: gonna take the Ravens to win this game. The window
- 1:55:46Speaker 2: is closed. There's gonna be a lot of this guy.
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: I don't know how I didn't see that coming. I'm
- 1:55:53Speaker 3: ashamed of myself.
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: There's gonna be a lot of red ass in Buffalo,
- 1:55:57Speaker 2: a lot of red ass Niagara if they lose.
- 1:56:01Speaker 3: I think it's going to be in the crosshairs because
- 1:56:03Speaker 3: they will not be able to stop the run.
- 1:56:05Speaker 2: And that's going to be So I'm going to fade
- 1:56:08Speaker 2: the Bills. I got you so right, Yeah, I'm going
- 1:56:12Speaker 2: to fade the Bills. I'm going to go with the
- 1:56:14Speaker 2: Ravens to win this acceptable and they cover, by the way, Yes,
- 1:56:18Speaker 2: and they cover, they will not win by one? Yeah,
- 1:56:23Speaker 2: all right? So now the National Championship game, Notre Dame
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: in Ohio State.
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: Ohio State by eight and a half.
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: Are they playing this game? I do not know.
- 1:56:34Speaker 6: Oh, that's a good question.
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: You're playing.
- 1:56:37Speaker 2: Why don't we know that?
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: That's weird?
- 1:56:39Speaker 2: The Dallas.
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: I think it's Dallas, not on Universal at eighteen.
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: T is Dallas, Dallas Stadium. No it's not. It's not
- 1:56:47Speaker 4: Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.
- 1:56:49Speaker 6: Okay, all right, as you guys might have heard, I
- 1:56:54Speaker 6: actually watched all the state game last week.
- 1:56:56Speaker 4: He's really had himself about that.
- 1:56:59Speaker 6: It's amazing you watch the football, like every minute of it.
- 1:57:02Speaker 6: I didn't even go to that well once you know
- 1:57:03Speaker 6: he took the fumble back.
- 1:57:04Speaker 3: That's how it was that one.
- 1:57:05Speaker 2: By the way, we'll go to the three calls. We'll
- 1:57:07Speaker 2: go a little or longer today and we'll get bonus
- 1:57:10Speaker 2: callers because it's off season.
- 1:57:12Speaker 6: I don't want you to bonus time. I think Notre Dame,
- 1:57:15Speaker 6: nice story, nice wins for them here getting to this
- 1:57:18Speaker 6: to this point. But I just think Ohio State looks
- 1:57:20Speaker 6: like a wagon right now, and they got the pieces.
- 1:57:22Speaker 6: So I'm gonna take Ohio State and I'm gonna lay
- 1:57:24Speaker 6: the points.
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:57:25Speaker 6: I think it's probably gonna make one of these college
- 1:57:27Speaker 6: football games where it's a couple of score games.
- 1:57:29Speaker 2: What do we say the margin was eight and a half?
- 1:57:31Speaker 6: Yeah, I like them by like ten.
- 1:57:35Speaker 4: I've been picking against Notre Dame the entire state because
- 1:57:38Speaker 4: I've been waiting for the Notre Dame that I grew
- 1:57:41Speaker 4: up with to show up in a big football game.
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: I'm sticking with it. I'm going down with this ship.
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: I think Marcus Freeman has done a great job with
- 1:57:48Speaker 4: Notre Dame. I think he's really rallied that team. If
- 1:57:51Speaker 4: you want a Rah Rah culture type of coach, he's
- 1:57:54Speaker 4: your guy. But talent is talent, and I just don't
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: think when you line these two teams up that Notre
- 1:57:59Speaker 4: Dame's talent matches Ohio State's talent. Who have Ohio State
- 1:58:03Speaker 4: has really been the best team in college football talent
- 1:58:05Speaker 4: wise all year long.
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: When they play Michigan, they.
- 1:58:07Speaker 4: Just have had some slip ups along the way. So
- 1:58:10Speaker 4: I'm gonna take the Buckeyes. I'll take I'll take them
- 1:58:14Speaker 4: both ways. I think there's just a too big of
- 1:58:15Speaker 4: a talent discrepancy here.
- 1:58:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that in watching all these playoff games,
- 1:58:20Speaker 3: by far, I think Ohio State has played the best
- 1:58:22Speaker 3: in all these games. I'll ride them, even though I
- 1:58:25Speaker 3: hate them. I will continue to take Ohio State. I
- 1:58:29Speaker 3: think I think Ohio State is just been markedly better
- 1:58:33Speaker 3: than the opposition.
- 1:58:34Speaker 2: I'm tempted to take Notre Dame to win out right,
- 1:58:37Speaker 2: I'll settle on them covering. But I think there's something
- 1:58:41Speaker 2: special going on with Notre Dame. Something going on here.
- 1:58:45Speaker 2: There's a lot of people. I can't go all the
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: way and say that they're going to win this game
- 1:58:51Speaker 2: out right, but they will cover. They will cover, So
- 1:58:55Speaker 2: I'm not going to make it a lock. I've already
- 1:58:56Speaker 2: made my lock.
- 1:58:58Speaker 3: So Ohio states to win him the cover is that.
- 1:59:00Speaker 2: That's right. Okay, that's right, You got that right, Paul.
- 1:59:03Speaker 3: Okay, thanks Kramer.
- 1:59:05Speaker 2: So those are our picks. But I did say, well,
- 1:59:07Speaker 2: we'll hang on. It's we're up against the hour. But
- 1:59:10Speaker 2: we have a few callers that have called. I want
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: to reward their patients and their off season interest. Uh,
- 1:59:16Speaker 2: so let's go to Christian in LA. What's up Christian.
- 1:59:20Speaker 16: You guys today?
- 1:59:21Speaker 2: Good?
- 1:59:23Speaker 16: It dropped out? Yes they have a call, but must
- 1:59:26Speaker 16: have been where I haven't here in La? And how
- 1:59:28Speaker 16: bad the signal is? So two questions for you guys. One,
- 1:59:35Speaker 16: ten lasted a bad draft and a mediocre uh free
- 1:59:40Speaker 16: agent fighting? Does that get rable out at one and done?
- 1:59:44Speaker 16: That's that's one question.
- 1:59:46Speaker 2: Say that again. Say that again.
- 1:59:47Speaker 3: Ten losses are bad? Draft. Yeah, we'll say in.
- 1:59:51Speaker 16: A mediocre like free agent free agent class.
- 1:59:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:59:54Speaker 3: So in other words, they win three more games than
- 1:59:56Speaker 3: they did this year, No, one and done. It doesn
- 2:00:00Speaker 3: no by by improving by three games.
- 2:00:02Speaker 2: No, he doesn't get canned after one year.
- 2:00:05Speaker 4: That's a that's an okay, improvement.
- 2:00:07Speaker 2: There have there I actually need to see how Yeah,
- 2:00:09Speaker 2: there has to be fist fights and all kinds of folks.
- 2:00:15Speaker 3: You've got the situation that happened you laugh.
- 2:00:18Speaker 2: I really mean there has to be There has to
- 2:00:20Speaker 2: be locker room, complete locker room, you know, pandemonium. Yeah right, okay.
- 2:00:26Speaker 16: Second second question is you have two questions. If we
- 2:00:29Speaker 16: get Higgins, Chris Godwin first round defensive.
- 2:00:34Speaker 2: Tackle, Micah Parsons.
- 2:00:36Speaker 16: Offensive tackle, third round of wide receiver, is that put
- 2:00:41Speaker 16: a possibly the playoffs?
- 2:00:45Speaker 3: Playoffs? We just go to the playoffs where we're good.
- 2:00:48Speaker 3: Godwin Godwin the season, who is he good? I mean,
- 2:00:59Speaker 3: they an't do.
- 2:01:02Speaker 7: Well.
- 2:01:02Speaker 3: If they hit on all the draft picks, then it
- 2:01:04Speaker 3: can be. Yes, they could be a playoff team if
- 2:01:05Speaker 3: you Yeah, and I think it requires six players that
- 2:01:09Speaker 3: immediately help you immensely.
- 2:01:11Speaker 2: You could be good and bringing in those middle class
- 2:01:13Speaker 2: guys that are solid players, Like we talked earlier about
- 2:01:17Speaker 2: the Red the Commanders. So I think there's a path. Yeah,
- 2:01:21Speaker 2: there's a path.
- 2:01:22Speaker 3: And I think in the NFL there's a path every
- 2:01:24Speaker 3: year for somebody.
- 2:01:26Speaker 4: Why not you, especially in the schedule Andrews and Boston,
- 2:01:29Speaker 4: Like there's a.
- 2:01:30Speaker 3: Team that goes from really bad to really good in
- 2:01:32Speaker 3: one year every year in the NFL.
- 2:01:33Speaker 2: What's up, Andrew, Hey.
- 2:01:36Speaker 13: What's going on? I'm kind of interested today in uh,
- 2:01:41Speaker 13: just like a slight debrief of last year's wide receiver draft.
- 2:01:45Speaker 13: So I'm wondering, who are you most surprised by or
- 2:01:50Speaker 13: or how do things go versus expectations, and then maybe
- 2:01:55Speaker 13: focus on how we're going to apply that lesson learned
- 2:01:58Speaker 13: to this year's draft.
- 2:02:00Speaker 2: I think my biggest surprise is Pope, just complete lack
- 2:02:04Speaker 2: of anything from him. I really thought he'd be you know,
- 2:02:07Speaker 2: he'd be okay.
- 2:02:08Speaker 3: So he's talking about the draft class at large overall. Yeah,
- 2:02:11Speaker 3: So you know, Savy, you're worthy, Ladd mcconkiea like that, Coleman, Sure, yeah,
- 2:02:20Speaker 3: you know most of those guys contributed.
- 2:02:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I think Coleman I've seen probably the
- 2:02:26Speaker 6: most of him, but i've you know, I mean it's
- 2:02:28Speaker 6: been a little sporadic and you missed some times.
- 2:02:29Speaker 3: Obviously McConkie had a huge conky at brought Bowers tight end.
- 2:02:33Speaker 6: But still, yeah, had a huge year. I think I
- 2:02:36Speaker 6: again was kind of up and down, and he was hurt.
- 2:02:38Speaker 3: I don't think. I don't think he was very good man.
- 2:02:40Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a world the five fifty club, right, Like,
- 2:02:44Speaker 4: if you're above five fifty as a rookie, that means you, guys,
- 2:02:48Speaker 4: you're onto something. So uh, Kean Coleman had just over
- 2:02:52Speaker 4: five fifty six, So him in Ladd McConkie or the
- 2:02:58Speaker 4: other than like neighbors and and Brian Thomas Junior and
- 2:03:01Speaker 4: the guy's the top top right, But talking about we
- 2:03:04Speaker 4: left out, Yeah, and all four of those guys hit
- 2:03:10Speaker 4: over Xavier Worthy hit over to uh. So you know,
- 2:03:13Speaker 4: the a couple of these guys seemed like a pretty
- 2:03:14Speaker 4: good class. Oh, I mean the top of the class
- 2:03:17Speaker 4: is one of the best way we've seen in a while.
- 2:03:18Speaker 6: That's what's so frustrating. It's like, why can't they hit
- 2:03:20Speaker 6: on one, Like you mean, one of the six guys
- 2:03:22Speaker 6: that had successful rookie years by that standard.
- 2:03:25Speaker 4: And I know, I think the biggest question that I
- 2:03:27Speaker 4: would have is just just to take the Washington receivers
- 2:03:31Speaker 4: and the Dune Day was obviously in his own category
- 2:03:33Speaker 4: a little bit, but like him and McMillan both had
- 2:03:36Speaker 4: decent rookie seasons. McMillan was decent in Tampa Bay and
- 2:03:40Speaker 4: you got the one that didn't do anything. So like
- 2:03:44Speaker 4: even just evaluating that program in it took the vacuum.
- 2:03:51Speaker 8: Yea.
- 2:03:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it only played a more prominent role because McMillan
- 2:03:54Speaker 3: got hurt.
- 2:03:55Speaker 4: Yeah, so like what were you looking at that? Said
- 2:03:59Speaker 4: Polk over mc millin. Obviously a duneesay is its own thing,
- 2:04:02Speaker 4: but that in itself, I think can get you a
- 2:04:04Speaker 4: long way in terms of fixing it.
- 2:04:06Speaker 2: We took his name in vain a lot. Today, Boston
- 2:04:08Speaker 2: Cream's on the line. What's up Boston Cream?
- 2:04:12Speaker 17: First off, spread, I find it kind of comical that
- 2:04:15Speaker 17: you like jelly donuts over cream donuts. I do, and
- 2:04:18Speaker 17: the fact that you're basically made of jelly. Boston Cream
- 2:04:25Speaker 17: are the second highest selling in the world, So put
- 2:04:28Speaker 17: some respect on my name.
- 2:04:30Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 2:04:31Speaker 6: What's the biggest glazed sludge? It's the glazed yeah.
- 2:04:35Speaker 17: Behind simple glaze for simple folk.
- 2:04:39Speaker 10: One last donut thing.
- 2:04:40Speaker 17: There's one thing that connects the human to the Boston
- 2:04:43Speaker 17: Cream donuts, and that's we're both made when cream goes
- 2:04:46Speaker 17: inside of a hole.
- 2:04:48Speaker 2: Ah. Now that's just wet. Now I got to extend
- 2:04:52Speaker 2: the show for that.
- 2:04:54Speaker 3: Now I gotta turn my back on you. He's a
- 2:04:56Speaker 3: couple of thousand dollars. Now, I gotta turn my back.
- 2:04:58Speaker 2: All right, Thanks Boston Cream. Yeah, that's gonna do it
