- 1:27Speaker 3: Lagwald now joins us on the Ramos Law Hotline car accident.
- 1:30Speaker 3: You mean Ramos Law, medical doctor and attorney ramas Law
- 1:33Speaker 3: dot com, Jeff. Most important question of the day, Well,
- 1:36Speaker 3: my University of Nebraska, Omaha Mavericks beat Saint John's today.
- 1:40Speaker 6: What's your take.
- 1:42Speaker 7: I'm gonna say that's probably a no.
- 1:44Speaker 3: But no.
- 1:45Speaker 6: Well, great to talk to you, Jeff. We'll talk to
- 1:47Speaker 6: you next week.
- 1:48Speaker 2: See you later.
- 1:48Speaker 7: Yeah, I appreciate it, Love you guys.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Yeah, Jeff, there is a couple of big details with
- 1:54Speaker 3: the Broncos moving forward here as we approach, you know,
- 1:56Speaker 3: closer and closer to the draft. But overall, can I
- 1:59Speaker 3: just ask you a very basic beat reporterish type of question, which.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Is what grade would you give the Broncos so far
- 2:06Speaker 6: for their offseason?
- 2:08Speaker 7: Well, you know, I think the issue is if if
- 2:12Speaker 7: the guys they signed are healthy, it's you know, you're
- 2:15Speaker 7: looking at a pretty good grade, you know, B B plus.
- 2:19Speaker 6: Uh.
- 2:19Speaker 7: If they're not healthy, then that's a totally different thing.
- 2:24Speaker 7: So that's to me, that's you know, they've they've gambled
- 2:27Speaker 7: a bit, uh in this free agency season simply because
- 2:31Speaker 7: of that. You know, I think Ingram's a great fit
- 2:35Speaker 7: in their offense. Uh. He lined up in the slot
- 2:39Speaker 7: so many times with Jacksonville. I think that fits what
- 2:42Speaker 7: they want. But you know, the two guys they signed
- 2:45Speaker 7: from the Niners, green Law and Hufunka. I mean, if
- 2:49Speaker 7: they're healthy, you're you're talking about guys who played at
- 2:52Speaker 7: Pro Bowl levels, you know, for multiple seasons. So uh,
- 2:58Speaker 7: you know that's a big if. But you know, I
- 3:01Speaker 7: do know inside the forty nine ers that their feeling
- 3:05Speaker 7: was that Greenlaw is a big loss for them. They
- 3:09Speaker 7: thought green Law would come back from his injury. Uh,
- 3:15Speaker 7: you know really well that he would he would approach
- 3:19Speaker 7: the level of play he had before he was hurting
- 3:22Speaker 7: the Super Bowl?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Is it common?
- 3:25Speaker 5: By the way, Adam Schefter told us that the Niners
- 3:28Speaker 5: desperately tried to sign green Law even though he had
- 3:32Speaker 5: agreement reach with the Broncos. Does that happen a lot
- 3:35Speaker 5: during that free agent period?
- 3:36Speaker 1: Where oh yeah it does?
- 3:39Speaker 7: Oh well, you know the agreement is just you know,
- 3:42Speaker 7: you can't sign anybody until free agency opens. So the terms,
- 3:47Speaker 7: it's just everybody's saying, Okay, the numbers are right, but yeah, people,
- 3:52Speaker 7: it's like re recruitment, you know, guys decommitting, you know, in
- 3:56Speaker 7: college type stuff. But yeah, you know it's it's generally
- 4:01Speaker 7: really frowned upon to walk away from somebody once you've
- 4:07Speaker 7: agreed to term. So that doesn't mean it hasn't happened
- 4:09Speaker 7: in the past. But yeah, there's always the final call
- 4:13Speaker 7: from the coach, the position coach or the GM to
- 4:16Speaker 7: you know, that one last are you sure you really
- 4:20Speaker 7: want to go? Type thing?
- 4:22Speaker 2: Baby come back? You can blame it, Oh on me?
- 4:25Speaker 2: I dig that.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I mean, I understand that, Jeff, Uh tell me about
- 4:29Speaker 4: this punter? Should I care about a punter?
- 4:32Speaker 7: Well, I think they'll probably bring in another one too
- 4:34Speaker 7: at some point, So I don't. I don't know that
- 4:36Speaker 7: this is the decision at punter. Uh?
- 4:39Speaker 2: Why don't? Why don't I care about punters? I don't.
- 4:41Speaker 4: I mean to me either, like a diamond, doesn't I
- 4:43Speaker 4: feel and I know though it's not the case, But
- 4:45Speaker 4: that's I can't get that out of my head. That Okay, oh,
- 4:48Speaker 4: Raley Dixon's gone, You got this guy in and okay,
- 4:51Speaker 4: sounds good. There'll be another guy in two years anyway,
- 4:53Speaker 4: I don't, I don't. I don't know how to feel
- 4:54Speaker 4: about that.
- 4:56Speaker 7: Well, I mean, you know, it's like a lot of things,
- 4:58Speaker 7: you know, if if you're really peel it act feel
- 5:00Speaker 7: the onion as it were. You know, the difference between
- 5:04Speaker 7: the really good ones and the other guys is pretty
- 5:07Speaker 7: obvious and pretty helpful to your team. If if you've
- 5:10Speaker 7: got a guy who can just crank it and he
- 5:13Speaker 7: does know where it's going, that's not gonna be really
- 5:16Speaker 7: good for punt coverage, which nobody cares about until there's
- 5:20Speaker 7: a lot of punt returns going the other way. So
- 5:24Speaker 7: I think it's just one of those things. You got
- 5:26Speaker 7: to have a guy who can put the ball where
- 5:28Speaker 7: you want it with the hang time. You need to
- 5:31Speaker 7: get your your coverage people down there, and that is
- 5:36Speaker 7: more of a skill than maybe we think it is.
- 5:38Speaker 7: But I do think they'll bring in some additional competition,
- 5:45Speaker 7: Uh yeah, because you know, there wasn't there weren't many
- 5:49Speaker 7: you know, sort of sort of top shelf guys available,
- 5:53Speaker 7: because that that is one position people try to keep
- 5:55Speaker 7: once you have your guy.
- 5:57Speaker 5: Hey, it sounds like you's going to bring in another
- 5:59Speaker 5: assistant coach. The reports are that Byron Leftwitch is going
- 6:03Speaker 5: to join the staff there with Prime. And my question
- 6:06Speaker 5: to you is what happened to Leftwich? I mean, here
- 6:09Speaker 5: he is as the OC at Tampa, he's coaching up
- 6:13Speaker 5: Tom Brady, wins the Super Bowl with Brady. Guy hasn't
- 6:16Speaker 5: coached in more than two years.
- 6:18Speaker 2: What happened to his career?
- 6:20Speaker 7: Yeah, that's you know, you've seen that all the time,
- 6:23Speaker 7: and it's like people connect you with the player too
- 6:27Speaker 7: much or the coach you worked for too much that
- 6:30Speaker 7: it wasn't really you type thing. I think he got
- 6:33Speaker 7: caught up in some of that. I don't think that's
- 6:35Speaker 7: ever fair, having watched how things work in the league,
- 6:40Speaker 7: but I think he's one of those guys, you know,
- 6:42Speaker 7: I think the enemy got in that window because you
- 6:45Speaker 7: know he was it's Andy Reid's offense, it's it's Mahomes's offense.
- 6:49Speaker 7: You know, it's everybody else except you. So I think
- 6:54Speaker 7: he got caught up a little bit in that. And
- 6:56Speaker 7: I think it's another example when you know Beyonce he
- 7:00Speaker 7: wanted the NFL model. He wasn't kidding.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Jeff liked, Yeah, real quick.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Sorry, Brett, but that being setting up, Sorry I wanted
- 7:08Speaker 4: to delay here in Autawa, beautiful Ottawa, Jeff. I don't
- 7:12Speaker 4: know how good they're gonna be as coaches or one
- 7:14Speaker 4: out I think left, which is pretty damn good.
- 7:16Speaker 2: But coach Prime certainly has a symbol that pretty impressive.
- 7:20Speaker 4: You know, a stable of names, right, I mean we're
- 7:22Speaker 4: talking about we're talking about major, major dudes in the
- 7:27Speaker 4: history of the NFL in the last twenty five years.
- 7:30Speaker 4: I mean, I hope it works out for him. I mean,
- 7:33Speaker 4: maybe they're gonna be completely awesome. Is there any Is
- 7:35Speaker 4: there any word on the street about what Coach Prime
- 7:37Speaker 4: has assembled there?
- 7:39Speaker 7: Well, I think people, you know, football people are always
- 7:41Speaker 7: gonna wonder kind of what you're up to. H I
- 7:45Speaker 7: think some of it is recruiting. An NIL is such
- 7:49Speaker 7: a big part of it. Now that you know, any
- 7:52Speaker 7: brand or name recognition you have that helps you, maybe
- 7:55Speaker 7: that gets you three recruits you wouldn't have gotten if
- 7:59Speaker 7: it was a the technically most savvy position coach in
- 8:03Speaker 7: the country. But nobody knows who he is type thing.
- 8:06Speaker 1: You know.
- 8:06Speaker 7: I think you're sort of banking on the you know,
- 8:10Speaker 7: the marquee value of it all and then you hope
- 8:13Speaker 7: there's enough coaching that they play with you know, some
- 8:17Speaker 7: discipline and all of that in the big moments. But
- 8:21Speaker 7: I think a lot of college coaches I know would say,
- 8:24Speaker 7: you want that mix. You know, you want you want
- 8:27Speaker 7: the people that the recruits recognize and know, but you
- 8:32Speaker 7: also need to get through you know, Sunday through Friday
- 8:37Speaker 7: and you know, preparation and be ready for things and
- 8:42Speaker 7: and be a you know, disciplined on the field and
- 8:45Speaker 7: all of those things. So you hope there's the right mix.
- 8:47Speaker 7: And I think that's the question people have is you know,
- 8:51Speaker 7: how will this translate, you know, on third and six
- 8:55Speaker 7: when you need to play and and you have to
- 8:58Speaker 7: adjust to what somebody else is doing all of those things.
- 9:02Speaker 7: So I don't think we know the answer yet until
- 9:05Speaker 7: we see how it all plays out. Without should do
- 9:09Speaker 7: her on the field, without Travis Hunter on the field,
- 9:11Speaker 7: how does it all look?
- 9:13Speaker 3: Jeff Leake, Well, ESPN dot Com. Allow me to do
- 9:15Speaker 3: what I do every week with you, Leggy, and ask
- 9:18Speaker 3: a dumb question. Now, this isn't my take, So if
- 9:20Speaker 3: you think it's stupid, go ahead and say it. But
- 9:23Speaker 3: I just watched Jaln Milroe run a four to three seven,
- 9:26Speaker 3: and there I read an article that was suggesting maybe
- 9:29Speaker 3: he could be like a Taysom Hill type for an
- 9:31Speaker 3: offense where you can throw it a little bit, he
- 9:33Speaker 3: could do some other things.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Is that crazy?
- 9:37Speaker 7: Yeah, it's not something he's done, you know, it's it's
- 9:43Speaker 7: you don't know. Honestly, you don't know. I mean he's
- 9:47Speaker 7: probably never been asked to catch the ball or you
- 9:50Speaker 7: know he can run it and you know it's got
- 9:54Speaker 7: one of the best pure arms on the draft board.
- 9:56Speaker 7: I mean, you watch that guy throw a deep ball
- 9:58Speaker 7: and it's it's picasso. I mean, netball is tight, spiral
- 10:03Speaker 7: and just gorgeous. You still know you know where it's
- 10:08Speaker 7: going all the time. So I do know, having stood
- 10:13Speaker 7: in front of him at the combine and ask him
- 10:15Speaker 7: a few questions, that you know he truly believes he's
- 10:20Speaker 7: the best or one of the best quarterbacks on this board.
- 10:23Speaker 7: So I don't think his mind is up to the Hey,
- 10:28Speaker 7: you want to move around on the field and play
- 10:29Speaker 7: a lot of positions. I think he sees himself as
- 10:33Speaker 7: a quarterback, and frankly, if you've got a quarterback at Alabama,
- 10:38Speaker 7: you're gonna you're gonna think you could be a quarterback
- 10:40Speaker 7: in the NFL.
- 10:42Speaker 5: I'm happy for you today, Jeff Legwall, because you're out
- 10:44Speaker 5: of that NFL hamster wheel. You get to cover some
- 10:47Speaker 5: college basketball in CAA tournament at ball Arena. I'll be
- 10:50Speaker 5: out there leader today. Maya pick my Cinderella and then
- 10:54Speaker 5: not much of a Cinderella, but I'd like to see.
- 10:56Speaker 5: I think b Yu has a chance to go to
- 10:58Speaker 5: the final four, let alone the sweet six.
- 11:01Speaker 1: They got some shooters.
- 11:02Speaker 5: One little nugget. I'm not sure you're aware of this.
- 11:04Speaker 5: You probably have already heard this, but they're sharp shooter
- 11:08Speaker 5: Richie Son.
- 11:10Speaker 7: You're giving me the tater tot nugget.
- 11:11Speaker 5: Yes, I am that people don't know this. The great
- 11:14Speaker 5: grandfather of BYU sharp shooter Richie Saunders Moser.
- 11:19Speaker 2: You'll love this.
- 11:20Speaker 1: He's the inventor of the tater tot.
- 11:24Speaker 7: Well, you know he actually cleared that up yesterday that
- 11:29Speaker 7: he said his great grandfather is the founder of or Aida,
- 11:32Speaker 7: So in that regard, he invented the tater town.
- 11:36Speaker 5: Also, he wasn't the guy like cooking it up. He
- 11:39Speaker 5: just had the company that developed it.
- 11:41Speaker 7: He founded the company. So we don't really know if
- 11:44Speaker 7: he was a laptad on making the most glorious snack
- 11:49Speaker 7: of all time, the tater tow here.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, I mean Napoleon Dynamite would be proud. Here's
- 11:54Speaker 4: the story though, with Al rder Man, It's like the
- 11:57Speaker 4: dude starts a company and just gets a bunch of
- 11:59Speaker 4: potatoes and goes, all right, tell you what, you all
- 12:01Speaker 4: just make whatever you want. You want some hash Browns,
- 12:04Speaker 4: you want some Tato Todds. You want those little triangle
- 12:08Speaker 4: sons of guns that you get. You want to sell
- 12:10Speaker 4: some to McDonald's for their little uh hashes or whatever. Right,
- 12:13Speaker 4: That's kind of the way it rolls, right, I.
- 12:16Speaker 7: Would think, so yeah.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Well yeah, It's like, look, Steve Jobs wasn't down there
- 12:22Speaker 3: making the actual iPhone, but he is like the face
- 12:25Speaker 3: of the iPhone.
- 12:26Speaker 6: That's that's how it works.
- 12:28Speaker 7: Okay O, if you signed the checks, you get to
- 12:31Speaker 7: say you invented it. I think I think that's absolutely cool.
- 12:35Speaker 2: What are you most excited about it?
- 12:36Speaker 7: I would like, you know, you know, Ford was on
- 12:38Speaker 7: the assembly line making the Mustangs.
- 12:40Speaker 6: You know, what are you most excited about for the tournament?
- 12:44Speaker 3: Like?
- 12:44Speaker 6: You, what are you most looking forward to?
- 12:46Speaker 7: Actually? This is something you know, I've been really fortunate
- 12:50Speaker 7: to be able to do this almost every year I've
- 12:52Speaker 7: worked in the business, so ESPN has gladly thankfully sent
- 12:58Speaker 7: me to a regional every year I worked for that.
- 13:01Speaker 7: I was in Memphis last year, and and I love
- 13:04Speaker 7: this stuff. I think it's cool. I think it's one
- 13:06Speaker 7: of the great sporting fun events that's out there. And
- 13:11Speaker 7: I dig it.
- 13:12Speaker 6: Would you rather do this or go to the Combine?
- 13:16Speaker 7: That's tough call, you know, if they were the same week,
- 13:18Speaker 7: I really have I do the old you know, Dion
- 13:22Speaker 7: Sanders Falcons, Atlanta Braves double dip.
- 13:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I like it. I like that.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Hey, Jeff, the story I was telling the guys here,
- 13:30Speaker 4: and we've all been to NCAA tournament, you know, games
- 13:32Speaker 4: with with no teams in and no dog in the fight.
- 13:35Speaker 2: But man, it's such a fun time. You're right about that.
- 13:38Speaker 4: It's probably a treat for you to get out of
- 13:39Speaker 4: your your football grind all the time. But just everything
- 13:42Speaker 4: that's involved in it, the pomp and circumstance, and the
- 13:44Speaker 4: cheerleaders and the bands and the mascots and the fans
- 13:48Speaker 4: and everything else, and how excited the kids are. You
- 13:51Speaker 4: can't help but just have that stuff absorb inside of you.
- 13:54Speaker 4: And if you're a sports fan, even in this light,
- 13:56Speaker 4: this is this is one of the best times of
- 13:58Speaker 4: all time.
- 13:59Speaker 2: I mean, I I'm jealous. I wish I could be there.
- 14:01Speaker 7: It's awesome now, you know, and I think you know
- 14:05Speaker 7: a lot of people. I was just speaking to a
- 14:07Speaker 7: group within the last couple of weeks, and you know,
- 14:11Speaker 7: people always ask you why you do what you do
- 14:14Speaker 7: or what you like about it. And I think one
- 14:17Speaker 7: of the coolest things about this gig is you never
- 14:21Speaker 7: that day you show up, you never you might see history.
- 14:24Speaker 7: You have no idea. You might really see history. You
- 14:27Speaker 7: might see the crappiest game of all time, but you
- 14:30Speaker 7: also might see history. And I have seen huge historical
- 14:35Speaker 7: moments covering the NCAA tournament and I just like that
- 14:39Speaker 7: part of it. You know, it's been a long time,
- 14:43Speaker 7: but I was at the game when you know, Bryce
- 14:47Speaker 7: Drew hits the half court shot, so Valparaiso eats Mississippi State,
- 14:52Speaker 7: and I'm on the video when you see the when
- 14:55Speaker 7: you see the highlight, you know, sit in court side.
- 14:58Speaker 7: You know that's pretty cool.
- 15:00Speaker 5: That's pretty arrogant of you to say that, But No,
- 15:03Speaker 5: I'm just kidding.
- 15:04Speaker 7: You're giving me the business about arrogant.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Is just I know, it's like, God, Jeff, he wore this,
- 15:10Speaker 2: he wore this three dollars.
- 15:13Speaker 7: I've taken a lot of a lot of hits over
- 15:15Speaker 7: the years, but that one isn't really that's a side fight, Jeff.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Two days ago he wore this three thousand dollars pull
- 15:22Speaker 4: over Augusta sweater vest thing and just you know, the
- 15:27Speaker 4: smile on his face.
- 15:28Speaker 3: You know he did do it, Leggy like I brought
- 15:30Speaker 3: up the story just just for a quick like, hey,
- 15:32Speaker 3: here's a fun little detail Scottie Scheffler's Master's menu. And
- 15:36Speaker 3: you know what Vic said immediately after I went through
- 15:38Speaker 3: the menu, he goes, uh, you guys should see the
- 15:41Speaker 3: actual kits kitchens at Augusta.
- 15:43Speaker 6: It's just it's remarkable to see in person.
- 15:47Speaker 5: Do you want I'm a reporter by trade. Do you
- 15:49Speaker 5: want perspective or not? Jeez, Hey, I'll see you this afternoon.
- 15:54Speaker 7: Bro.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I will be a ballerina.
- 15:56Speaker 2: You'll be working, I'll be.
- 15:57Speaker 7: Watching well, I'll be doing a little.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Thanks leg As Jeff Lagwel ESPN dot com joins us
- 16:04Speaker 3: every single Thursday at eight o'clock or nine o'clock. I'm sorry,
- 16:08Speaker 3: And all conversations what Leggy brought to you by the
- 16:09Speaker 3: International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBW Local sixty eight, start
- 16:14Speaker 3: with a job, end with a career.
- 16:17Speaker 4: Is there anyone out there right now listening in Denver,
- 16:20Speaker 4: Colorado who doesn't have a ticket, And I'm guessing there
- 16:24Speaker 4: will be tickets available today, you know that sort of thing.
- 16:27Speaker 4: And uh, you know, an opportunity to go to the
- 16:31Speaker 4: gym if you want to go down to ball Arena,
- 16:33Speaker 4: I would encourage you to try to do it if
- 16:35Speaker 4: you can, and then report back to us tomorrow. Like
- 16:38Speaker 4: you know what I decided, mos, you convinced me took
- 16:41Speaker 4: the rest of the day off work, or I left
- 16:43Speaker 4: work early, I'm gonna go to the games tonight or whatever.
- 16:46Speaker 4: It really is fun, man, I can't.
- 16:49Speaker 2: I know that.
- 16:49Speaker 4: I keep repeating myself about it, Brett, But I I've never.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Had a poor time.
- 16:53Speaker 4: I've always had just so much fun, whether I was
- 16:55Speaker 4: working or just going to the games.
- 16:58Speaker 2: It's awesome. It's it's a true real treat.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Let me tell you the fundamental difference between watching a
- 17:03Speaker 5: college basketball game and a professional game. It's very simple.
- 17:07Speaker 5: First of all, the band is there, which brings you
- 17:10Speaker 5: that that the collegial element. You know, you hear the
- 17:13Speaker 5: brass band, you hear it's a bunch of the Trumps.
- 17:16Speaker 4: I mean it's Nelly, It's Nellie exactly, and that feels
- 17:19Speaker 4: I mean, it's cool, it's cool to have that.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Number.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Two, you hear the fans at a pro game. And
- 17:27Speaker 5: I'm not trying to knock the professional entertainment value. Everybody's
- 17:31Speaker 5: got their desires, but a progame is a bunch of music.
- 17:35Speaker 5: It's like you're at the club.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It's music all the time.
- 17:38Speaker 5: Music and timeouts, entertainment, time out, everything's music.
- 17:44Speaker 1: College game, man, there's a little bit of that, but
- 17:46Speaker 1: it's just the fans and the game, and I like that.
- 17:50Speaker 1: That's my preference.
- 17:51Speaker 3: One other detail, big difference between college basketball and the NBA.
- 17:58Speaker 3: NBA makes shots.
- 18:00Speaker 1: College basketball can be a struggle.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Since I'm talking about the environment, no I understand, but
- 18:05Speaker 3: those years, I'm telling you, I've never hated a college
- 18:08Speaker 3: basketball team more than Virginia. Them shooting twenty five percent
- 18:11Speaker 3: from the field and winning forty eight to forty seven
- 18:14Speaker 3: in these games was driving me insane, insane, rightful.
- 18:18Speaker 4: I probably will get in trouble for saying this, but
- 18:21Speaker 4: I'm gonna say it anyway. In the NCAA tournament. I
- 18:24Speaker 4: also like a good mascot confrontation.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, okay.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Now I'm not talking about full blown hooking and you know,
- 18:36Speaker 4: sup plexes and all that kind of thing, but I
- 18:38Speaker 4: like mascots to kind of get after each other just
- 18:40Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Right this, Hey, you're playing for keeps. This is not.
- 18:44Speaker 4: This is not we will see you next week in
- 18:46Speaker 4: conference play. This is hey, man, you lose, you go home.
- 18:50Speaker 4: And mascots know that too. Whether you're a beaver or
- 18:53Speaker 4: whether you're a friggin you know, grizzly bear or a
- 18:56Speaker 4: tree or whatever it is you are, man you know,
- 18:59Speaker 4: or something I can't print out or don't even know
- 19:00Speaker 4: what it is. I like a good mascot confrontation.
