- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermind, set coach, creative strategist, and also
- 0:09happen to be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. So if I sound different today,
- 0:31it's because I have my headset microphone on because I'm
- 0:35talking to you while I am actually sitting in front of my
- 0:39computer working on a presentation to present next
- 0:44week when I go out to speak twice.
- 0:48So I travel Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week.
- 0:50Doesn't mean we won't have a podcast, just means that I'm
- 0:53going out to speak during the day.
- 0:55So why am I telling you all of this?
- 0:57Well, I'm telling you all of this because I want you to
- 0:59realize that time is always of an essence for most of human
- 1:04beings. And for me, my, I live on a
- 1:07schedule taking care of clients. Every morning I am up, I am
- 1:12getting ready, taking care of all the animals, doing
- 1:14everything to get ready before I start to coach.
- 1:17And there's, there's always a significant challenge available
- 1:21to me if I choose to look for it with time.
- 1:24So I thought this morning, since I was having one of those
- 1:28moments, it would be the perfect time to teach you how to handle
- 1:31it. So I got up very early this
- 1:33morning. I was up at 4:00 AM.
- 1:36And I'm, I've been working on this presentation for a bit of
- 1:38time because I'm trying to refine it and get it very tight
- 1:43so I can cover a lot for people. And I've got a 45 minute to an
- 1:48hour long presentation I'm going to be doing.
- 1:51And of course it's on the subjects of mindset and, you
- 1:55know, cultivating a strong mindset going into the new year
- 1:59and how that affects everything. Now, this is material that I
- 2:03know like the back of my hand, but it doesn't mean that I don't
- 2:06want to, you know, make it purposeful and really work on it
- 2:10to get it ready. So I'm building out my
- 2:12slideshow. I'm going through all of this.
- 2:14And one of the things that comes up often with humans is that we
- 2:19don't calculate how long something's going to take us
- 2:22correctly. We have this sense of, oh, we
- 2:25can do this really fast or oh, I know the material, it's not
- 2:29going to be that hard. Or you know what?
- 2:32I, I know that program. I should be able to jump in
- 2:34there and do it. And we miscalculate.
- 2:37And I have over the years really worked hard on this with myself.
- 2:41But it does not mean it's gone, OK?
- 2:44Because I am always the one that goes, oh, yeah, yeah, that won't
- 2:47take me long. I can bang that right out.
- 2:48And nine times out of 10, I am accurate with that.
- 2:52I can still go pretty fast, but it's not always as fast as I
- 2:56would like it to be. So that's where we are with this
- 2:59morning. So I got up very early.
- 3:01I knew I'm close to being finished, but when I am close to
- 3:04being finished, I get very particular about certain things,
- 3:08graphics, the way things look, having just the right little
- 3:12video clip in there, and it all starts to eat into my time.
- 3:17And of course, I have sessions in the morning like they start.
- 3:21I start sessions at 7:00 AM typically.
- 3:24So I have to make sure I'm on task and in that time I also
- 3:29have to do the things that I need to for the farm and for my
- 3:32family, making sure my son is up fed all of those things, Dogs
- 3:37fed, chickens fed, cats fed, all of that.
- 3:40So as I'm going through the process, I'm sitting there this
- 3:43morning and I, I had intended this is the key.
- 3:46I had intended to have it finished.
- 3:48I was like, OK, I'm going to be able to nail this and it will be
- 3:51done this morning. Well, once I started, I started
- 3:54moving things around. I started moving slides around,
- 3:56I started refining it and I lose track of time when I'm doing
- 4:00that because again, we have interesting concepts of time as
- 4:04human beings. And then immediately the emotion
- 4:08that comes up is the panic of I'm not going to finish this
- 4:11this morning. I'm not going to finish this
- 4:12this morning. Now, mind you, I'm not making
- 4:15this presentation until next week.
- 4:18I have time. I'm the one that's controlling
- 4:20the slides, but in my head, it had to be done this morning.
- 4:24So I had to not only redefine my emotions and what were
- 4:29happening, what was happening, but I had to go back and say,
- 4:32OK, how much time do I really need for this?
- 4:35And so in my immediate answer was, if you just sit here for
- 4:37another 15 minutes, you can probably have it done.
- 4:40And how many times have you done that?
- 4:42Because I do it a lot. And then I crammed myself up.
- 4:46So rather than torturing myself, I stopped.
- 4:49And I was like, no, that is not how we roll.
- 4:51That is not how we do this. We are not doing it that way.
- 4:55And I got up, got it, went over, poured myself some tea, came
- 5:00back, sat down and said, OK, how much time do I really need to
- 5:04make sure that this is going to feel good?
- 5:06And I paused and I had an instantaneous reaction again to
- 5:10say if we just took 15 minutes, yes, I understand anxiety.
- 5:15Thank you for sharing. And we're not doing that.
- 5:17That's exactly what I said in my head.
- 5:19Legitimately, how much time do you need?
- 5:23Force that comes into my head says about an hour.
- 5:26OK, an hour. If we took an hour, we could
- 5:29potentially have this thing wrapped up.
- 5:31Yes. When do we have an hour?
- 5:33Not where can I cram it in. When do we have an hour?
- 5:37This evening. OK, so when we finish this
- 5:40evening, we're going to make sure that we sit down at this
- 5:43time and do it. Excellent.
- 5:45And all of a sudden the anxiety melts away.
- 5:48So I wanted to share that with you because we do it to
- 5:51ourselves constantly, but having that little hang up and hanging
- 5:55on to it and letting it stick with us kills us.
- 5:59So change the frame, ask better questions, get peaceful about it
- 6:04and know that you can do it and you can do some time bending
- 6:07just by being real about it. And yes, I do walk around
- 6:10constantly telling myself, oh, I have more than enough time
- 6:13because that does help a lot. I have to say that one little
- 6:17phrase helps a lot. OK my friends, I hope you have a
- 6:20blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 6:22Bye.
