- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, joining me on the line right now. It's well,
- 0:02Speaker 1: I believe he's actually now the chief executive, the chief
- 0:05Speaker 1: executive of the darl Import. It is Peter Dummitt. Good
- 0:08Speaker 1: morning to you, Peter. Good morning Peter.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Okay, how are you?
- 0:13Speaker 1: Yeah, very well, hopefully I've got you on the line
- 0:15Speaker 1: there now. Peter, you're the You have just been announced
- 0:19Speaker 1: basically as the as the chief executive. Is that correct
- 0:23Speaker 1: of the daren Port.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yes, that was announced on Monday. I've been acting in
- 0:28Speaker 2: the roles just over three months. The board went through
- 0:32Speaker 2: recruitment process and my name came out on top. So,
- 0:36Speaker 2: as I said to my team on Monday, I've got
- 0:39Speaker 2: to stop acting, I've got to start doing.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Okay, well, that's right. I'm sure you've been doing for
- 0:43Speaker 1: a while now. But what what your priority is going
- 0:47Speaker 1: to be now that you are indeed the chief executive.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Really it's about growing the business. It's about having the
- 0:54Speaker 2: distability in the business. We're back filling some roles that
- 0:59Speaker 2: have been vacant as a result of COVID, so that
- 1:02Speaker 2: our wharf services area and our maintenance centers. We've been
- 1:06Speaker 2: working very hard to fill those positions so that we
- 1:09Speaker 2: can be fully operational and fully efficient and provide safe services.
- 1:15Speaker 1: And has that been quite a bit happening particularly, you know,
- 1:19Speaker 1: when you talk about shipping movements and various things going
- 1:22Speaker 1: on at the porch.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Look lots happening at the moment. Obviously, we had the
- 1:27Speaker 2: harbor phase for Exercise Kakadar twenty two, a number of
- 1:31Speaker 2: vessels in the harbor at forty A Wharf, eastne Wharf
- 1:36Speaker 2: and at anchorages as well. So the harbor phase finished,
- 1:40Speaker 2: they're now out exercising doing their war games as they do.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We'll start to see some of those vessels come back
- 1:47Speaker 2: into the port as those things wrap up over the
- 1:49Speaker 2: next couple of days. But our look ahead next week
- 1:53Speaker 2: from a commercial shipping perspective is very very busy. We've
- 1:57Speaker 2: got a couple of car carriers, gray bulk ships, unloading
- 2:02Speaker 2: container ships, oil and gas vessels, a whole bunch of
- 2:05Speaker 2: things happening next week.
- 2:07Speaker 1: And Peter, we know, or we certainly learned a little
- 2:10Speaker 1: bit earlier this morning a bit more detail about it,
- 2:13Speaker 1: but we found out late yesterday that there is that
- 2:15Speaker 1: unexploited ordinate as well. Are there any impact on board
- 2:18Speaker 1: operations from your perspective when it comes to that unexploited ordinate.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Fortunately, Katie, No, it's out on the main shipping channel,
- 2:28Speaker 2: so that's all good. And look, these things pop up
- 2:32Speaker 2: from time to time. I was talking to in Niblock
- 2:35Speaker 2: before he headed off on leave yesterday. There was a
- 2:38Speaker 2: number of years back another piece that was found that
- 2:41Speaker 2: was exploded in Situe. We've got a war history up here,
- 2:45Speaker 2: so there's a lot of things potentially got to pop
- 2:48Speaker 2: up from time to time.
- 2:48Speaker 1: And Ab Yeah, it is one of those things, isn't it,
- 2:52Speaker 1: Because we do have such a rich war history. It
- 2:54Speaker 1: is one of those things that we all sort of
- 2:56Speaker 1: understand that, you know that devices like this are going
- 2:59Speaker 1: to pop from time to time. But you said, then, Peter,
- 3:01Speaker 1: that a couple of years back what they had to
- 3:03Speaker 1: actually then exploded in the water, did they.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the nature of that. Particularly piece of it
- 3:10Speaker 2: was quite large, it was very old, and Zee was
- 3:13Speaker 2: telling me they I think it was the Navy disposal
- 3:17Speaker 2: team fixed and explosives to it and exploded it in Situe.
- 3:23Speaker 2: That was off these point.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yeah, interesting stuff. Well, we'll be keeping it close on it.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I know that when we spoke to the department a
- 3:30Speaker 1: bit earlier this morning, they said that they would have
- 3:32Speaker 1: those the Navy crew, I believe, going down and taking
- 3:35Speaker 1: a closer look at it and sort of trying to
- 3:37Speaker 1: determine exactly what it was. But yeah, Peter, it sounds
- 3:41Speaker 1: like it's always busy times for you guys. Any anything
- 3:44Speaker 1: else much going on that we should be aware of.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Has there been much sort of has have operations had
- 3:50Speaker 1: to change very much over the last week or so
- 3:52Speaker 1: with Exercise Kakado underway? Not really.
- 3:56Speaker 2: We we went very closely with Defense and we actually
- 3:59Speaker 2: in bed a couple of uniform people within our harbor
- 4:04Speaker 2: control area so that they can coordinate their movements around
- 4:07Speaker 2: the commercial vessel movements. And we work very closely with
- 4:11Speaker 2: Defense for exercises such as this, and we've been able
- 4:15Speaker 2: to keep our customers happy and Defense happy at the
- 4:17Speaker 2: same time, which is great.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Well, it is always good to catch up with you,
- 4:21Speaker 1: Peter Dummitt indeed now the chief executive of the Darwin Port.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Thanks so much for your time this morning.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Thanks Katie, always a pleasure to talk to you.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Thank you.
