- 2:15on Sports Show and my guest today is local professional boxer Josh Kennedy. Hello,
- 2:19Josh, how are you? Oh Kevin, how are you doing?
- 2:21My friend? Yeah? Good? Thanks good, thanks for coming in.
- 2:23Oh, thank you for having me back. Right, Yeah, it's been
- 2:24a long time. Yes, you haven't aged a day. It's fantastic.
- 2:29I don't know what your secret is, but I want it just a bit
- 2:30grayer, yes, just a bit. We're both there, man, Right,
- 2:34Josh, let's start with tell us a little bit about your career and
- 2:38how you got into boxing. How were you when you first put your boxing
- 2:42gloves on? When I started boxing, I was thirteen years old and I
- 2:44was absolutely shocking by absolutely fell in love with the sport instantaneously. So through
- 2:49hard work and dedication, I learned the skills. But yeah, for me,
- 2:53it wasn't like naturally talented. It was a struggle. But I mean
- 2:55I used to win my fights just purely on my fitness and dedication. I'd
- 3:00beat kids that were far better than me. But you know, they're count
- 3:02punching me and I'm just find everything but the kitchen sinking them. So for
- 3:06me, I learned the hard way how to box. But I wouldn't change
- 3:08for the world. It's changed changed my life. So when did it sort
- 3:12of start to take structure, if you like? After thirty amateur fights,
- 3:16and after it took about thirty fights, and my coach took me to Denmark
- 3:21and he just goes watched this ladd in the ring, and I watched the
- 3:23lad of the ring and he's just what's he doing? And now I said,
- 3:27I don't understand. It looks like he's kind of floating backwards and because
- 3:30he's counterpunching. And then then I started learning how to CounterPunch. But up
- 3:34until that fight, up to that time, sorry, I was just throwing
- 3:37punches for the sake of So I started to learn how to box, right,
- 3:39gotcha? So what were your early days in folks? And did you
- 3:45you want a club? Yeah? No, So what do you mean?
- 3:47Yeah? So I walked in there one summer when I was thirteen, fell
- 3:52in love with it and had my first fight with him three months. I
- 3:53loved the list could fall back in two thousand and four or five, I
- 3:57believe, Yeah, yeah, and that was a big time for you,
- 3:59was it must have felt like a pro. My first ever fight was in
- 4:03my hometownd, which I was very very proud of me, you know,
- 4:06lucky to get that as well. So I was very happy to have that
- 4:09and I won, by the way, I just want to point that out.
- 4:13So, I mean those early days were were your fights competitive or would
- 4:18you say you was sort of much much stronger than than you had the more
- 4:23desire. Yeah, yeah, so they were. Obviously when you first start
- 4:26outs, you're a novice, and then when you go into your first championships,
- 4:29your class is like an open class fighter. Then you go into elite
- 4:30championship class an elite amateur. So my first first fifteen fights, I was
- 4:35class as a novice. Then I went into my first title championship was called
- 4:40the Golden Golden Belt, and then from that I was class as an open
- 4:44boxer. But I won that Golden Belt. I was devastated though, because
- 4:46the name is very misleading. I thought was I was going to win a
- 4:48Golden Belt. I didn't. I've got a certificate. I was devastated.
- 4:54So you moved on up to what was your first professional fight. My first
- 4:58professional fight was back in two thir and fifteen. That was in Your Call,
- 5:02London, and that fight I won in thirty three seconds, which I
- 5:06was also. Yeah, I trained for nine weeks and I've done thirty three
- 5:11seconds worth of work. So all that training and it's all over and down.
- 5:14Oh yeah. But yeah, at the time, it was amazing.
- 5:16You know, it was just no, I'll never forget it. But we
- 5:21were talking about this off here just now. But have you had a fight
- 5:25where you've trained for nine or ten weeks solid and then the opponent pulls out
- 5:28at the last minute. Yeah, So I was meant to box in Folks
- 5:31and late last year I was boxing the former Commonwealth champion. But yeah,
- 5:38trained for a long time and then he pulled out a week beforehand with a
- 5:41little cut between his finger and his thumb side to you know, I didn't
- 5:44get a chance to box in my hometown, which I'm boxed in Folktions in
- 5:47about ten years, so that'd been nice. But you know, it's meant
- 5:50to be. It's meant to be. Is that a big anti climax because
- 5:53you're hearing to go, is you know do you think, Kevin, what
- 5:56do you the next day? You think? Oh, do you go home
- 5:58and punch the wall or no? I wont and cried into my pillow.
- 6:00Mate. Right, So, how many professional fights have you had? I've
- 6:05had thirteen professional fights, and how have you got one out of thirsd I'm
- 6:10fighting of one eleven. That means I've lost twice, Kevin, I don't
- 6:13want to talk about it. These things happen, you know, No,
- 6:15you didn't lose your game seconds. I come second, I come second.
- 6:19Right. So, but you've you're going through a little change now giving back
- 6:27to boxing. What you've got out of it. We talk about that shortly.
- 6:30Yeah, but what you're up to these days apart from the coach,
- 6:32you know, you're still keeping from Yeah. So obviously I train. I
- 6:35train rigiously, like every single day, whether I'm running or boxing. I'm
- 6:42constantly constant in the gym trying to improve my my boxing abilities rather than improve
- 6:46my fitness. My fitness is always going to be there, but you can
- 6:48always be better at what you're doing. So I'm constantly try and improve my
- 6:50boxing, a bility which has happened massively. Yeah, and have you got
- 6:55any role models? In a professional game that you look up to and think,
- 6:58you know, I like your style, really look up to myself,
- 7:00you know, honestly, I like it's not a round model, but I
- 7:05like the way box you love watching Prince and seehim, I've got the same
- 7:09kind of shorts him, like a little skirting. Its very flamboyant as a
- 7:12man before his time. So for me, one of my one of my
- 7:15biggest idols would be Prince and Zimhammad. Yeah yeah, right, So we're
- 7:18going to talk about the youngsters coming on. But what has it done for
- 7:23you? Is it kind of was you a little rebel when you was little?
- 7:26I was more I was the rebel. Yeah. So I struggled in
- 7:29school with the academic side of things and as a as a thirteen year old.
- 7:32Rather than put your hand up, I go, miss, I don't
- 7:33understand it. I just thought, now I'm going to leave it. And
- 7:36then all of a sudden, the teacher's got this kind of like you know,
- 7:41idea of you that you're the naughty kids, so they put less attention
- 7:43in you. So before I know, I was falling behind massively, and
- 7:46luckily for me, I just happened to walk into the boxing club, and
- 7:48it just it changed my behavior and the person I was. You know,
- 7:51I couldn't talk to the coaches the way I was talking to my teachers because
- 7:55you learn things like this have been the respects straight away. So for me
- 7:59by changed my whole verall behavior and outlook on on on what was being a
- 8:05teenager. Yeah, yeah, and are you trying to kind of not instill
- 8:07that but you know pass that on to you on one hundred pent and still
- 8:11that you know, you know, especially the education side of things as well.
- 8:16Like I struggled massively trying to get a job after I was kicked out
- 8:18of school. So you know, I want to go work for Saga.
- 8:22What qualifications you got, Josh? Nothing? So I had to go do
- 8:26jobs that nobody wants to do really, So I was working in the kitchen,
- 8:28porter the burst in and in other places. And yeah, the whole
- 8:33idea is to let the importance of education because what you get in school,
- 8:39we know, help you after school. I found out the hard way,
- 8:41and my my sessions and my inspecial talks are trying to help kids understand that
- 8:46school is one of the most important things. Okay, right, We're going
- 8:52to play a bit of music now, but we're going to come back and
- 8:54we're going to talk about about your classes, about your academy, your one
- 8:58to ones, and so don't go anywhere. This is a bit of a
- 9:01Dia Straits over four minutes, the ere of the Dire Straits and Sultan's a
- 9:15swing. Well, we're back in the studio, so welcome back, Josh.
- 9:18How are you all right? Man? Good? Right, now,
- 9:20let's start on the other side of the coin with what you're up to.
- 9:24Now, what gave you the idea of starting up on your own? So
- 9:28I just like the idea of coaching kids because for me, like I said,
- 9:31being coached at the folks and Boxing Club changed my life. So I'd
- 9:33like to give that back and if it happens to one person, then it's
- 9:37been a success. But you know, I love coaching kids and I hate
- 9:39working for other people. So for me, it was a no brainer.
- 9:43Fair enough, And what exactly are you coaching? Tell us about like the
- 9:48after school club? So the after school club is designed for kids of primary
- 9:52school kids age. So looking back at boxing now, when I started boxing
- 9:56I was thirteen, I felt another of it. But if you're ten years
- 9:58old, there's nothing fun about going to a boxing club. You know,
- 10:01you're punching the bag, you sit up bush ups. Unless you're really into
- 10:03that kind of stuff, it's not fun. So my afters called boxing Club,
- 10:05focus on the fun side of boxing, if you can find a fun
- 10:09side, so they'll learn the skills of boxing in various games and races and
- 10:13competition and stuff like that. You know, so every every drill is an
- 10:18objective in it, so whether it be who can front of much punches in
- 10:20thirty seconds or things like that. And it's going fantastic. You know.
- 10:26I'll get between ten fifteen, twenty twenty five kids turn up on a Tuesday
- 10:30and Thursday. So it's going really well. And like I said, every
- 10:33time I finish, it's not less kids winging because they're out of breath that
- 10:37they're just smiling when they're leaving. I see you, to see you.
- 10:39You literally get any girls. So yeah, I've got a couple guys,
- 10:41like about three or four girls. A lot of people think boxing is just
- 10:43the man's but like boxing is men's and women's. But like I said,
- 10:48mine is the fun side of boxing. They learn to box in the funnest
- 10:52way possible. So when they get a little bit older, they could take
- 10:54a little bit more seriously, they can then do that and they've got a
- 10:56kind of a ground base of of skills already. Yeah yeah, So,
- 11:01I mean you've you've touched on the benefits, but do you get any children
- 11:05halfway through don't like it? They want to start? No, Hello,
- 11:09No, I've never had a kid, so I don't want to come tomorrow.
- 11:13I don't want to know never. That's great. Yeah yeah, And
- 11:16what about the parents? Do you encourage them to come, you know,
- 11:18come and watch? Yeah, like most of them the goal can I stay.
- 11:20I encourage the states so they can see what the session's about and see
- 11:22what their kids are up to. And again, yeah, one hundred percent,
- 11:26I encourage parents to come watch. So yeah, there are always this.
- 11:30I've got just as much parents there as I have as kids. That's
- 11:33great. Now there's another string that I think you'd really like to get into.
- 11:39I'm sure you've got into before. That's going into schools. So what
- 11:43I used to de liver boxing, deliver boxing for the sports shops, and
- 11:46I went in every school in the district and delivered boxing and the kids loved
- 11:50it. That like the school love it. You know, boxing used to
- 11:54be in the curriculum back in the eighties, I believe, and I think
- 11:58that it should understand being the crew of now not not for kids to compete,
- 12:01just for the fitness side of things and to know that if anything did
- 12:05happen outside, they can look after themselves. But again, I focus on
- 12:09the fundamental, so teaching the kids the correct way, the proper way of
- 12:11boxing, rather than fighting. And yeah, so I'm going to be going
- 12:16into schools and delivering boxing through through my academy, which I'm really looking forward
- 12:20to. Yeah, sounds great. And if a child comes along to your
- 12:26your classes after five or six weeks, can you see the improvement one hundred
- 12:31percent? Like I said, I do focus on the fun side of it,
- 12:33but every now and then I've got to be serious Josh, and right,
- 12:35guys, come on, I'm trying to help you here, because sometimes
- 12:37I make it so fun they just they just kind of forget that it is
- 12:41a boxing class and it's like a youth club. Yeah, cobody club.
- 12:45But you know, I can see improvements massively. And there's a few kids
- 12:48that I have joined my academy that I now do one to one sessions with
- 12:52because their parents are Oh, he really likes it. He wants to get
- 12:54a little bit more serious here. So I'd say there's about four or five
- 12:56kids that are now coach on the weekends and after schools and stuff that's going
- 13:01really well as well. Excellent. So do you do one to ones with
- 13:05adults? Yeah? On one. So when I first become a personal trainer,
- 13:09it was mainly adults and then all of a sudden, it's my kid
- 13:11wants to learn a box. My kid wants to do this. So I'd
- 13:13say I'd say seventy five percent of my PT clients are kids, which is
- 13:18absolutely fantastic. Yeah. Yeah, and I don't know the parents come along.
- 13:24Do you have a chat with the parents afterwards? Are they saying that
- 13:26my kid was a bit worried about coming. Yeah, so they absolutely can't
- 13:30wait to come in one or two of them. So we didn't know what
- 13:31it was a bit expected, but they absolutely fell in love it. Like
- 13:33I said, when you think boxing your finger, it's a dangerous sport,
- 13:37and now it can be dangerous, but I'm not coaching that side of things.
- 13:41I'd never encourage the kids to fight each other, so that it's all
- 13:43non contact. They just do pads and drills and things like that. They
- 13:48never never hiting each other. If they want to actually hit each other,
- 13:50then they can go and compete later on. But yeah, mine is just
- 13:54the fun side of things. So what ages are they now? We say
- 13:56after school? But what ages? So primary school kids as six to twelve?
- 14:00Yeah, yeah, well something here. Well I think second school kids
- 14:03there as well, but yeah, six or twelve of my clubs for yeah,
- 14:05I mean you're give them a warm up before they start going. Yeah,
- 14:07So, like I said, the warm up is a skill based game.
- 14:11So like, for example, a classic warm up game would be a
- 14:15game attack. The idea of tag is not get taged. The idea of
- 14:16boxing is not get punched. So that's a perfect game with a lot of
- 14:20relays. We do a lot of reaction games. But yeah, with loads
- 14:24loads of decent warm ups in my club. Yeah yeah, yeah, okay.
- 14:26And so are you hoping to find a champion or you're just quite happy
- 14:31to I'm happy just installing the skills and kids and if they want to then
- 14:35go draw an amateur boxing cup. That'll be fantastic. Eventually, after my
- 14:39professional career, I would consider turning my club into an amateur boxing club.
- 14:46But for now, my academy focuses on the skills and the fundamentals and the
- 14:52box and IQ rather than having the kids compete, because not everyone wants to
- 14:56compete. They just want to learn how to look after themselves and learn how
- 14:58to box. Yeah, and in between the classes, if there's only,
- 15:01like say, someone can only make it once a week, do you give
- 15:03them any sort of homework to do? No? No, So obviously I
- 15:07encourage all the kids to work out as well. Anything I do exercise was
- 15:09that it's so simple, it's all body weight exercise that they can do at
- 15:11home in their spare time as well. Brilliant. So this is really catching
- 15:16on, I think. I mean, I've seen that your Facebook page is
- 15:18growing and seeing little clips and the kids really look to be having fun.
- 15:22Yeah, of course this is me we're talking about. I'm a super fun
- 15:24guy, Kevin. It's a comedy club with a bit of boxer. That's
- 15:31right, right, So it's time to let's say pass on that information.
- 15:37Well, first of all, in your boxing career. I love name dropping
- 15:41on this show. Is there anybody that you really want to thank? Yeah?
- 15:43Obviously the main man for me on the main two men as mister Harry
- 15:48Slater who started in my boxing journey when I was a kid, Barry who
- 15:52took over. You've got Dean who's one of the main coaches there. And
- 15:58obviously one of my first coaches was Mark through who was in the corner of
- 16:00my first fight. These are all men that have helped me out in their
- 16:03own ways throughout my career and again, without them, I wouldn't be the
- 16:07person, not just the box of the person i'm today. So I'm very,
- 16:10very happy to have those men in months. Those four names. Actually,
- 16:12I'm pretty sure that they've been going for a very long time, haven't
- 16:15they. We've had a couple I'm running out of things to say. But
- 16:25those four people, they've either been on the show or they're still around,
- 16:30still giving back, and that's great. And yeah, of course, it's
- 16:32like I said, box is one of them sports that you can't keep to
- 16:34yourself. Once you've learned it, you're meant to pass it on. This
- 16:37you know, it's not a selfish sport. You install the morals and the
- 16:41skills into other people. It makes it even more worthwhile. Okay, So
- 16:45if anybody has been listening, to this show out there and the driving around
- 16:49and they want to get hold of you and your classes. Tell us how
- 16:52do they do that? So my classes for my score Box and Carve runs
- 16:56on a Tuesday and Thursday at Folks and the Sports Center in the main Sports
- 17:00hall. It's four fifteen till five pm and their first session is free,
- 17:06so anyone thinking about it, they can just turn up and have a go
- 17:08for free and if they want it then they can join afterwards. But they
- 17:12don't. Maybach part ways and what have you got any Facebook pages or Yeah?
- 17:17So I've got a team Kennedy Boxing Academy on Facebook which all my details
- 17:22of the classes and all the videos of the sessions I do are on there
- 17:25in case you want to look at them first anything else. So I think
- 17:27we covered it all. Yeah, I just want to give thanks to a
- 17:30cut the people as well outside of my coaches. So I've got a sponsor
- 17:33who sponsors my academy, which is Events in Kent. They've funded me so
- 17:37I can get all the nice equipment for the Kids'll shout out to the Folks
- 17:41and Sports and if they let me deliver the sessions there. They're always really
- 17:44polite to me and welcome my PG clients. If anyone out there is looking
- 17:48at sponsorship, I'll be either me as an athlete or my boxing academy.
- 17:53Obviously, if you just head over to my Facebook page again, it's Team
- 17:56Kennedy Boxing Academy. I can then forward you on their sponsorship package and you
- 18:00can see the advantages from a company's brilliant Well, Josh, thanks are coming
- 18:03in become a fantastic I mean, I know you've got to shoot off to
- 18:07sports Centinels cracking. We haven't kept you too long. But you do talk
- 18:11a lot, don't I do. I do talk a lot. Josh,
- 18:15thank you very much once again, and if anybody wants to get in touch,
- 18:18please just look up those Facebook pages and go along, especially the parents.
- 18:22As Josh said, the parents are most important. You realize that it's
- 18:26it's fun as well to travel to take on high flying Billericky Town in an
- 19:10issuing Premier Division fixture. Folkston came into this unchanged from Tuesday Night's defeat to
- 19:14horn Church. Joe Coleman started in goal, Jason for Janie and Gale and
- 19:17Callon Davis started at the back with Caine, Penn and Toby Byer and not
- 19:21crying. Those wing back spots. Dean rant, Sadie Snogo and Eddie also
- 19:25continued their trio in midfield, starting just behind Tom Derry and David Smith,
- 19:29who led the line for Folkston. Michael Cabin Junior came onto the bench for
- 19:32the first time for Folks and the Victor alongside him with Jake Goodman and Daddy
- 19:36cole Chris Dessniong who was returning from injury, and Louis Collins. All five
- 19:40were hoping to get on and change the game for Folkston. The game didn't
- 19:42take long to go in and there's a ball played over the top of Frank
- 19:45Maryfield thought he could get there and misjudged it horribly. Goalkeeper Joe Coleman came
- 19:49charging out and got so the ball first. Frank Merryfield caught the Folks and
- 19:53goalkeeper from where we were like the Bellericky Man could well be off. The
- 19:57referee dipped into his pocket and gave a yellow car to Frankie Meryfield, but
- 20:02Joe Carmon continued with the rest of the game with a dead leg. It
- 20:06took just thirty two minutes for the first goal of the game. Sadie Sonogo
- 20:08won the header off the goalkick and Dave Smith pounced on a loop ball.
- 20:12Dan Wilts came charging out, but the Folks and man got their first ficked
- 20:15it around the goalkeeper and the referee had no choice to point to the penalty
- 20:19spot. Upstep Dave Smith from twelve yards. He was cool, calm and
- 20:23collected and slotted it down to the goalkeeper's left town side and Folks on the
- 20:27Victor had a one goal lead away from home in bill Ricky. It took
- 20:32just four minutes for Folks into double their advantage. Goalscorer Dave Smith was on
- 20:36the end of it again on the right hand side. This time he chose
- 20:37to draw one into the penalty spot. Target man Tom Darry was there to
- 20:41put it on a plate for another pen. Caine pen this time charging in
- 20:45from the edge of the penalty area and the ball set up so kindly for
- 20:48him and he slotted it calmly to that goalkeeper's left hand side once more,
- 20:52and Folks on the Victor doubled their lead. Going into halftime. It's Bilricky
- 20:56town Neil Folks in the Victor two. Billerricky made two changes at halftime try
- 21:00and get himself back into the game, but the second half fizzled out,
- 21:03with the only real chance of the second half falling to Michael Keedman, who
- 21:07made his debut off for Folks in the Victor bench. He was slipped in
- 21:10on the left hand side and he has so much pace to burn, blitzed
- 21:12the fall back and got down into the penalty air and hit one low and
- 21:15hard to the goalkeeper's left and Dan Wilkes got down smartly to tip it around
- 21:18the post. So Folks and still only had that two goal cushion heading into
- 21:22the ninetieth minute. Fast forward to the ninetieth minute and Frankie Merrifield was played
- 21:26into the penalty ara on the right hand side. He drilled it low and
- 21:30hard at Joe Coleman. It is near post. He was beaten very easily,
- 21:33but he was still carrying that knock from the challenge from the goal scorer
- 21:37earlier in the game. So Billy Ricky had one back, but they didn't
- 21:40have any time to try and search for a second and it finished at the
- 21:44New Lodge ground as Billy Ricky one, Folks in the Victor two drama wasn't
- 21:48done there though, because Gary McCann had a few words to say to the
- 21:52referee after full time and he was brandished a red card. So the Billy
- 21:55Ricky manager saw red and was sent off. At the New Lodge Stadium,
- 22:00Folks of them play Tuesday night against Craig Wonders where I'll bing you another match
- 22:03report from full time here at the Nilas Stadium as Billericky Town one, folks
- 22:10in the victor two. Charlie Prescott reporting from Billericky Well. Big thanks to
- 22:14Charlie there and oh I am sorry there that jumped in a little bit quick.
- 22:18That was scheduled to be just a minute or so later on in the
- 22:21show. But we will come back with another report from Charlie very shortly so.
- 22:26But what I want to talk about first is, in case you didn't
- 22:29know, Maidstone are now playing a Coventry in the fifth round of the FA
- 22:33Cup. After Coventry beat Chefl Wednesday by four goals to one on Tuesday.
- 22:38The game is to be played on Monday, the twenty sixth to February at
- 22:41seven forty five at Coventry. Now this arrangement is mainly for the TV,
- 22:47which won't suit many Maidstone fans who might not now be able to travel,
- 22:51and we'll have to sett all for watching it on ITV four or ITV X,
- 22:55which is great for the club and then we're going to make loads of
- 22:56money out of it. But I think you can't be a good old Saturday
- 23:00afternoon fixture with a three pm kickoff for an FA Cup game. And I
- 23:03must just mention this as well. Good luck to deal Town on Saturday as
- 23:07they make a five hundred mile round trip to play Bridgewater in Somerset in the
- 23:11fifth round of the FA VARs. It goes like this fifth round, sixth
- 23:15round, semi final over two legs and then the final on the eleventh of
- 23:21May. And I can remember going to Wembley back in the day in the
- 23:23year two thousand when they actually went on and won the FA VARs. So
- 23:29good luck to deal Town on Saturday. We're going back to Charlie now and
- 23:33you've got history report on the Crag game which went on on Tuesday night for
- 23:37folksing in Victor. You join me from the Archalive Stadium where the game finished
- 23:41level, but the referee was the main talking point. Both of the Victor
- 23:45had two enforced changes coming into this game, Kai McKenzie Lyle came in for
- 23:48the injured Joe Cormon, while Malcaul Kentman Junior came in to replace Toby Byron,
- 23:52who started the first of his free game ban. The slow starts of
- 23:56the game here at the Arkaliz Stadium, they have a few niggerlie fouls to
- 24:00start with. The referee dealt with well, but it wasn't until a thirty
- 24:03ninth minute where the game really got going. Craig Wonder's Tom Bonner was wrestling
- 24:07Dave Smith out on the right hand side corner flag and he obviously wanted the
- 24:11Folks and number ten shirt, but the referee had no choice but to award
- 24:14the free kick out by the corner flag. Upstepped Eddie Alsop on that wonder
- 24:18of the right foot of his. He whipped the ball in, floated one
- 24:21in towards a penalty spot and Dave Smith was there on the spot to head
- 24:23it past Sean Rowley and Folks and the victor had a one goal lead going
- 24:27into halftime. Craig One just started the better the two teams in the second
- 24:32half, but they couldn't quite find that elusive goal. There are a few
- 24:36questionable refereeing decisions that Dean Rant saw himself cautioned for and Sadie Sonogo picked up
- 24:41a yellow card for a late challenge on a halfway line. Fast forward to
- 24:45the seventy third minute where Folks and Victor had a corner from the right hand
- 24:48side and starman Eddie Alsop came across to take it on that magic right foot
- 24:52of his. He floated one up towards the far post and Sadie Sonogo was
- 24:56there waiting and he hammered it home after scuffling the penal area, and he
- 25:00doubled the Folks in advantage, so on the seventy third minute it was Folks
- 25:03in it to two Cray Wonders nil. The game only got better from here.
- 25:08David Douaga came flying in and the whole ground thought he was going to
- 25:12be sent off, but the referee only chose to caution the man, so
- 25:15Craig Wonders had a let off. With ten minutes to go in the game,
- 25:18Andy Jury sense Cray were getting a foothold in the game and goalscorer Dave
- 25:22Smith was replaced by Jake Goodman. As Folks have switched to a more defensive
- 25:26approach for the last ten minutes. The referee continued his yellow cast three and
- 25:30Kayi Merckenzie Lyle picked up a yellow card for time wasting and folks then we're
- 25:37really looking to struggle in the last ten minutes of the game. The eighty
- 25:40eighth minute was where the game turned. Craig Wonders looked like they played through
- 25:44well on the right hand side. Sadie's Snogo got a whack through his troubles
- 25:47off one of the Cray players and they whipped the ball into the box and
- 25:49it eventually ended up of a corner, but the referee obviously saw something different
- 25:53to the entire of the ground and Sadysgo saw his second yellow card of the
- 25:59game and he was sent tough on the eighty eight so it's tied up a
- 26:02nice finish for the away side, but folks were furious and it was a
- 26:06very questionable decision from the referee, to say the least. The resulting corner
- 26:10was whipped in and it was a scramble around on a penalty spot and on
- 26:12the line, and there was questions whether the ball had crossed the line,
- 26:15but the linesman said it has and Ellis Brown was there to tap it in
- 26:18for Cray Wonders and they had a way back into the game. So ninety
- 26:22minutes on the clock and it was Folks a limit to two. Cray Wonders
- 26:26won. We had a finish on our hands. Phone come up to the
- 26:30ninetieth minute now and everyone's expecting be to be four or five added on at
- 26:34the most, and the referees baard went up and there were eight minutes added
- 26:38on at the Alkaline Stadium. Meanwhile, while this was going on, Dean
- 26:42Rantz had control of the ball in the left hand corner and Alfie Evans came
- 26:47flying in again and once more the folks and fans thought there could be a
- 26:49red card for the cray Man, but the referee seemed to bottle it again
- 26:53and Alfie Evans seemed just received just a caution. We come up to ninety
- 26:59seven minute now where another corner was taken from the right hand side and there's
- 27:03a scramble on the box. There was hearts in mouth moment for folks and
- 27:07fans and unfortunately for those supporting the boys in black and Amber, Anthony Cook
- 27:11was there to scramble it in again for Cray Wonders. It wasn't pretty,
- 27:15but Cray were level and Chris Lynch had some words to say to the referee.
- 27:18He received a yellow card and he carried on and carried on, and
- 27:22the referee decided then to show him a second yellow and the Folks's assistant manager
- 27:26was sent off. The folks and fans gathered at the tunnel to tell the
- 27:30referee what they thought of him at full time and he was greeted to a
- 27:33whole house of booze as he walked off the field. But that wasn't going
- 27:37to change anything here at the Alkaline Stadium. The referee definitely takes the headlines
- 27:41for this. Folks can receive yet another red card to Sadie Sunogo will be
- 27:47suspended in seven days time. But as I say, the referee takes the
- 27:51headlines. But the game finishes Folks in the victor two Cray Wonders two.
- 27:56Charlie Prescott reporting from the Alkali Stadium. Well thanks once again Charlie for that
- 28:00report. And we move on now to Hide Town there and we listened to
- 28:04first of Tom Elbi's reports on Saturday's game. We're against Ramsgate. A depleted
- 28:11high Town side managed to take a good point in a roller coaster of a
- 28:14match against Ramsgate, drawing two to two against the league leaders at reach Field.
- 28:18Steve Watt, who was suspended for the match, made two changes from
- 28:21the goalless straw at seven Oakstown as new signing Josh Wissen came into the starting
- 28:26eleven for his first start for Highe along with Aaron Barnes who replaced Liam and
- 28:30Ethan Smith, who also suspended. Heid got off to a dream start and
- 28:33scored the opening goal as a free kick from Franny Colin landed on the head
- 28:37of Lex Allen. Goalkeeper Tom Handler was unable to get a hand to it
- 28:41and the ball rolled into the back of the net. Despite Hyde's dominance in
- 28:44the first half, it was the rams who scored the next goal, which
- 28:47came just before halftime as Jack s Paxman weaved his way past the high defense
- 28:52and hit a shot past Steve Phillips to level the scores at the break.
- 28:56The visitors managed to take the lead in the second half as on sixty nine
- 28:59minutes the ball deflected into path of Alfie Paxman, who smammed the ball in
- 29:03at the near posts. Much sourer the light of the visiting supporters. Despite
- 29:07this, it was High throughout the final word they managed to break through the
- 29:10Ramsgate defense before Jake Henbury smashed the ball in to make it two too.
- 29:14The full time whistle blue to mark a well earned point for Hive against a
- 29:17difficult opponent. The Cannons will be back in action again on Tuesday night,
- 29:19it says, take on Earth and Belvidere at Reachfields. Kickoff is at seven
- 29:23forty five pm. Well thank you Tom, and this time now Tom tells
- 29:29us about the action that went on at Reachfield against Eeryth and Bildiere. A
- 29:33lackluster hide side were well beaten on a damp Tuesday night at Reachfields as Earth
- 29:37and Belvidere came away with a three to one win. Suspended manager Steve Watt
- 29:41made one enforced change from the two to draw against Ramsgate on Saturday, as
- 29:45the injured Aaron Barnes was appraised by Kean Garlinge making his first start for Hythe
- 29:49on twelve minutes. It was High who scored the opener from a corner which
- 29:52was sent in from Franny Colin and was met by a diving header from Johann
- 29:56Kney Bryan. The ball sailed in to make it one nil to the can
- 30:00Unfortunately, things got worse from this point onwards. Eerith managed to score three
- 30:04minutes later when Henry Arnold was free on the left wing making a run forward
- 30:07of the ball. Fullback Sam Fleisher tried to beat him to the goal but
- 30:11ended up pulling his hamstring, giving Arnold's space across the ball and to path
- 30:15of Macey Mallion, who knocked the ball in to give the visitors the equalizer.
- 30:18It wasn't long before they took the leaders in the nineteenth minute, Henry
- 30:22Arnold received the ball, turned Josh Wissen inside out and slotted it past Steve
- 30:26Phillips. They managed to make it three to one with eight minutes remaining in
- 30:29the first half as a cross was knocked on by Mallion to Matt Neary,
- 30:33who tapped the ball in to make it three to one at halftime. There
- 30:36were no cutting had chances in the second half as the two teams looked very
- 30:40even but were unable to create opportunities. One positive for Hythe was substitute Luke
- 30:44Russell, who came on in the first half and played several superb first time
- 30:48passing crosses as well as making some crucial interceptions. The full time was the
- 30:52Blue and the Hive players will surely feel that they had lost a winnable match
- 30:55because of the defensive errors. Higher back in action on Saturday as they traveled
- 30:59to Littlehampton in Town with the match kicking off at three pm. Well thanks
- 31:03John there and finally our men pitchside Bradley Kilgareth sent me in this report on
- 31:07the Hawkins' way game at Hals AFC, who play their matches at Earth Leisure
- 31:11Center. Hawkins Town Football Club traveled to Halls Athletic Football Club on Saturday in
- 31:15a Kent County Premier Division clash. Hales are sitting at the top of the
- 31:21table with the Hawks in second place. Going into this game. Both teams
- 31:23were level one points. However, Hales with a game in hand, so
- 31:26this was a must win fiction for both sides. Hawkins can have asked for
- 31:32a better start after captain Luke Reeve scored just six minutes into the game with
- 31:37a tidy finish for inside the opposition box. The first twenty minutes Hawkins was
- 31:41defending and attacking really well against the well organized Hall side halves. Made the
- 31:47score one one after twenty three minutes, a bombardment of opposition players into the
- 31:51hawkinsh box managed to connect a loose clearance. The first half continued much of
- 31:56the same, both teams creating opportunities, however equally defending just as well.
- 32:00It was Hols on the forty fourth minute which found the back of the net
- 32:02again from a well worked goal and meant they were leading two to one at
- 32:07the break. A big second half was needed from the Hawks. While there
- 32:10was a few opportunities for both sides, it seemed quite a scrappy and flat
- 32:15at times. How the football isn't always the most prettiest game in the world.
- 32:19On the eighty third minute, Luke Greeve got a second goal of the
- 32:22afternoon and managed to get the score line back to two to two, which
- 32:24seemed we was on course for a solid point away from home against the well
- 32:28disciplined organized in a strong Hall side. It was only then again on a
- 32:31ninetieth minute, Luke Greeve made a fantastic run and managed to get his third
- 32:36goal off the afternoon, putting Hawkings free to up and picking three points up
- 32:39away from home. The action from the Hawkings bench and players just showed how
- 32:44much this game meant to them. Hawkings are now sitting at the top of
- 32:46the table while there was a long way to go. The team continues to
- 32:50have a great season. The Hawks finished just nine points away from relegation last
- 32:53year and the top format continues just shows how well Mike Sheridan, the first
- 32:58team manager and the squad have work to get this far. Hawk's next victure
- 33:01is Friday night at Ramsgate Stadium against Minster in the DFDs Challenge Shield, kick
- 33:07off at eight pm, where we look to progress into the final. Come
- 33:09on you Hawks. Well, big thank you to Bradley there. That's another
- 33:13great report and our match reporters have been really busy this week, so a
- 33:17massive thank you to Charlie, Tom and Bradley for giving up their time to
- 33:22keep myself and the listeners here on Academy of FM up to date on the
- 33:25local soccer scene. Well, after all that talking and sport, I'm worn
- 33:29out and when it's time to listen for a bit of music from the Commodorees.
- 33:43Commodore's There and Sale on from nineteen seventy nine. Okay, this hour
- 33:47has flown by, because that just Josh Kennedy, you can speak for England
- 33:51can't it, but it's great to see his enthusiasm coming across. Now coming
- 33:58up in the second half, we've got some reports on rugby. We've got
- 34:01a little wind up of half term camps. Is half term next week.
- 34:06There's some cricket news, yes, cricket news already, hockey report, and
- 34:09a special report on some local ladies that are making the news in our area.
- 34:15It's kind of a girl power report. So taking us up to the
- 34:17news. We've got Sister Sledge and Lost in Music and I'll see you later.
- 34:31Welcome back to the second half of the show. Coming up, we
- 34:39have got some rugby. We've got to lose on some half term camps,
- 34:51lose on cricket training. It's been a massive weekend for the folks on optim
- 35:00It is both Saturday and Sunday. And I've got a special report on the
- 35:07loads and loads of forty local ladies who are making the news. We don't
- 35:19go away. We've got another hour of local sport of music. Stay where
- 35:25you are, get those slippers on. In the meantime we're going to carry
- 35:32on. We've got the Foundations Baby in now that I found you, and
- 35:37some local music from Liquid Jacket, Liquid jacket there and their version of a
- 35:55rocketman, and if you get a chance to go and see him, then
- 35:59please take it. I've seen them quite a few times actually, and I
- 36:02saw them last time in the summer. Actually they were playing on the bandstand
- 36:07a lovely sunny afternoon, you know. And they're great, live, really
- 36:10really good performers. So take my advice, go and see them. Okay,
- 36:15let's talk Rugby. Now. Their last Saturday I went along to watch
- 36:19the folks from first fifteen in their top of the table clash against park House,
- 36:22which resulted in a park House victory by twenty seven points to twelve.
- 36:28Now I know rugby expert, just a keen spectator, but it seemed to
- 36:30me that park House were the stronger of the two sides and kept Folks doing
- 36:35pinned down for much of the game. However, when Folkstone did manage to
- 36:37get away, they did look dangerous. Their centers and wingmen caused loads of
- 36:42problems, resulting in one particularly spectacular try when a fire move set up by
- 36:47Callum Palmieri passed to Charlie Watson, who then ran the ball over the line,
- 36:52outpacing the park House defense. Folkston always seemed to be playing catch up.
- 36:57As the scoreline went a five NILTA park House, then five all.
- 37:01Park House pulled away to twelve five nineteen five twenty two five folks and pulled
- 37:07back to twenty two twelve and look to have the upper hand there, but
- 37:12park House scored a late try to make the final score twenty seven to twelve.
- 37:15Now, I really enjoyed this game and it's really good to get out
- 37:17there and the support of the Firse fifteen and I really hope to get up
- 37:22there and see how they're getting on and perhaps they will finish top of the
- 37:24table. Now on the next pitch, I kept an eye on the third
- 37:29team and it seemed that every time I looked over, folks that were scoring.
- 37:32And as the thirds came off at full time, I asked one of
- 37:36the home players what the final score was and he replied, well, to
- 37:38be honest, we stopped playing at halftime when we were forteen nil up.
- 37:43The final score was fifteen to il against Deal and bets Hanger. Now this
- 37:47Saturday, it's the Six Nations when Scotland played France at two fifteen and England
- 37:52are up against Wales at four forty five. So normally there are no lower
- 37:57league fixtures. If they do play, it's a local game, no traveling.
- 38:00They with a morning kickoff so that all the players can watch the internationals
- 38:06and what a great idea that is. Okay, we've got some news on
- 38:09half term camps now, with half term approaching this weekend. On last week's
- 38:15show, I went to great detail as to what's out there for the kids.
- 38:19Now I won't repeat it all, but parents, if you're looking forward
- 38:22for something for your child to keep them busy at half term, then please
- 38:25go to the following Facebook pages Next Generation Coaching, Elite Community Coaching UK,
- 38:32Limited, Folks and Sports Center Trust, the Three Hill Sports Park and Saints
- 38:38Basketball Folkston. They're all offering activities to keep the kids busy at half term,
- 38:45something that the parents love to let them burn off their energy. Okay's
- 38:50I have a bit of music now and we've got a classic track from Tom
- 38:52Robinson Band two four six eight Motorway Yeah Zoo There, Yeah Zoo from eighty
- 39:13two. The main female singer there is Alison Noye and I used to love
- 39:19her songs and one of my biggest regrets actually was that she was on actually
- 39:22down at the Leees Cliff Hall and I don't know, I must have been
- 39:25working, been on a late shift or something. Couldn't get to see her.
- 39:29And I saw the review and she went down a bundle. She did.
- 39:31She was a really, really great singer. I think she probably concentrates
- 39:37more on home life. You know, she's not out touring anymore. I
- 39:39know one of her passions is South End United Football Club. So yeah,
- 39:45it'd be not to see if she just released another single, I'd really really
- 39:47look forward to that. So it is some cricket news, would you believe
- 39:52into February, but we've all noticed to see that the evenings are getting lighter
- 39:57and we the clocks change with those of miserable old day there Today the clock's
- 40:00changed on the weekend of the thirty thirty first of March, so that can
- 40:05only mean one thing that the cricket season is on its way. The seniors
- 40:08started training on February. They start training on February the sixteenth, between seven
- 40:14and nine pm down at the Three Hills. They start indoors and then as
- 40:16soon as they can they'll get outdoors. So if you want any further details,
- 40:21or perhaps you're new to the area and you want to play cricket,
- 40:23please check out the Folks and Cricket Club of Facebook page where there is a
- 40:28link to their website. Now the juniors have already started. They started a
- 40:32ten week training program. But i parents, if you want to take your
- 40:36children along just to have a chat and find out what's going on, I'm
- 40:38sure there'll always be someone there to speak to you. On the Mondays at
- 40:43the Three Hills. Sorry it's on Thursdays. It's the Three Hills. It's
- 40:46the girls only, that's between six and seven pm. Then are the under
- 40:52nines, elevens, thirteen's and fifteen so they're at the Three Hills. They're
- 40:55the ones that are there on a Monday. All the times on the Folks
- 40:59and Cricket Club the website. I won't give you all the times because you
- 41:01won't remember them, but just go to the website and as we said before,
- 41:06there is a link to the on the Facebook page. And I want
- 41:09to thank former guests to the show, Sam Ireland for all that information and
- 41:14roll on the cricket season and a bit of sunshine. Now time for a
- 41:17bit of music from I haven't heard this one for a long long time.
- 41:21A bit of smoky and don't play your rock and roll to me one five
- 41:23point nine Academy, The Folkston and Hyde Squads podcast every local sport across the
- 41:30district fair ground attraction there perfect and if my memory serves me right, that
- 41:45was an advert, wasn't it, Asda? It has to be, yeah,
- 41:52I'm sure it was. Okay, what's next? We got some hockey
- 41:55news now, Folks and Optimists fielded twelve teams once again on a day where
- 42:00goals were flying in for both the ops and the opposition. Summon it all
- 42:05up. They played twelve one to six, drew one, and lost five
- 42:09goals for the Ops forty eight and against thirty four, so busy davi for
- 42:15goalkeepers. The men's first eleven drew five all with Ashford. Will Mead completed
- 42:20his hat trick near the end of the game to secure the draw. The
- 42:22other goals came from Max Howitt, who scored twice. Men's Seconds beat Canterbury
- 42:28sixty four. The Thirds lost two to one to New Beckahamians. The Force
- 42:31lost five to three to Maystone. The goals there. The goals on that
- 42:36game were shared between Andy Carpenter, Jack Dixon and Alex Cross. The men's
- 42:40sixteen listened to this one. They were six to one down at halftime but
- 42:45came back to win seven to six against burnt Ash, and the seventh teen
- 42:49beat Maystone two to one. The ladies' first team lost two to one to
- 42:52Bromley and Beckenham, the seconds lost five to one to Canterbury, the thirds
- 42:58lost four to one to Mepham, lost four to two to Bromley and Beckenham,
- 43:02but the steady all fifteen beat University of Kent by ten goals to nil.
- 43:07Janet Fuller got four, Becca Shaw got four, with Emmy Gainsford and
- 43:10Anna Hegate getting one apiece. They all go again on Saturday. Yes,
- 43:15all twelve teams. But if you think that was busy on a Sunday,
- 43:20the juniors fielded fourteen teams. That was right across the southeast, from under
- 43:24eighths to under eighteens. Now there's too many results to read out, but
- 43:29one scene does deserve a special mention. That's the under fourteen boys, a
- 43:32team who beat Wimbledon in an away fixture in the last sixteen of a National
- 43:37Cup. So they're now in the quarter finals of yes and National Cup.
- 43:43So let's hope they get a home fixture. That'd be great, wasn't it.
- 43:45So A big thanks once again to all the secretaries who's sending their reports
- 43:50to Amy, and of course for Amy who sends them on to me.
- 43:52A bit of music now from Gabrielle and a song called Dreams they did under
- 44:07with Bennett and the Rebel Rousers there from nineteen sixties sixty five. I think
- 44:13it was that was a cover version of the Beatles song you know. And
- 44:16I don't know for say this because I love the Beatles, but I think
- 44:20I preferred that version Clif Bennett. It was really really good. Great voice,
- 44:23isn't he? Great vocals? Okay, now time for a special report.
- 44:28This is a lady's only news, a special report local ladies making the
- 44:31headlines. Last week I highlighted two local ladies who successfully completed their January challenges.
- 44:38Fiona Stanton walked fifteen thousand steps a day throughout the month and Imagen Ireland
- 44:44completed thirty one minutes of exercise for every one of the thirty one days in
- 44:47January, finishing with a ninety minute run, both raising loads of money for
- 44:52their chosen charity. Well, this week I found a group of five ladies
- 44:57who formed a relay team and challenged them so to run from London to Paris
- 45:01over four days. Joe Bonner, Tika Barrow, Louise Legger, Sarah Walker
- 45:07and Becky Young are all set to run a half marathon every day for four
- 45:10days, raising money for two charities. Now. The first charity is known
- 45:15as SAPHA now think it stands for Soldiers, Sailors and Air Force Association.
- 45:21Basically, it's a charity to aid anyone who has completed National service and need
- 45:24some help. And the second one is Parkinson's UK. The money raise for
- 45:30this one because they aim to raise awareness and work with the NHS to improve
- 45:34services in the UK for this terrible disease. Two great causes. Now,
- 45:38the ladies start outside the famous Wimbledon tennis courts and run to New Haven,
- 45:44remembering that's half a marathon each They camp overnight, Yes they camp, there's
- 45:49no hotels on this trip is camping every night. They then take the ferry
- 45:52to Diepp. They each do their half marathon and once again camp. The
- 45:58next day, the formula is the same, but the terrain becomes much tougher.
- 46:01Once again running and then camping. Then the last day sees them push
- 46:06on to Paris, where they will all run the last mile together, finishing
- 46:09underneath the Eiffel Tower. Now, logistically there is a lot more to it
- 46:15than it sounds. Really, Tika will be taking her Volkswagen van and the
- 46:19two of them or three of them will possibly share the drive in. This
- 46:22is part of a well organized operation. With two hundred runners setting off,
- 46:27each one will be traced in case of getting lost or injured. The ladies
- 46:31can all run a half marathon, for sure, but can they keep it
- 46:35up for four days in a row. I was talking to Joe Bonna during
- 46:37the week and as they up the mileage, they will train to run on
- 46:42consecutive days. So obviously this determined group not going to take this challenge lightly.
- 46:46They aim to raise at least two thousand pound and between now and the
- 46:51end of May, I hope to meet them all and find out how the
- 46:52training is going. This really is a girl power time at the moment.
- 46:58Okay, so we've got another report now for another young lady former guest of
- 47:01the show. On one oh five point nine, Academy of FM is making
- 47:05us sporty headlines. Good luck goes out to Leah Bamford from the Folkston Indoor
- 47:09Bowls Club, who this weekend will be representing England, Yes, England in
- 47:15the British Isles Indoor Bowls Council Women's Under twenty five International Series in Belfast.
- 47:22So there we go, gil Para again. So we'll let you know how
- 47:24she got on and how ring how her England team got on. She's a
- 47:28lovely lady, Leah. I've met her and I've met her dad, Peter,
- 47:31and is lovely to see that the sport of indoor bowls is on the
- 47:37up and up. Name of local ladies in sport. Congratulations go to former
- 47:39another former guest of the show, Jay Hopkins. She completed her two hundredth
- 47:45park run last Saturday. She's completed her two hundred runs at thirteen different locations.
- 47:50Her pebe is twenty nine minutes twenty six seconds and she's shown how unselfish
- 47:55he is by volunteering thirty five times, sometimes more than one role in a
- 48:00day. Who said ladies couldn't multitask? Well? This one canyp more girl
- 48:05power. We haven't finished yet. Folkston Academy student Nive Sorge took part in
- 48:09a full knockdown karate tournament in London at the weekend and had to move up
- 48:14a category which was aged sixteen and sixty kilograms as she didn't have anyone to
- 48:20fight in her own category. Neive, who is forty six kilograms, then
- 48:24went on to defeat her opponent who was nearly twenty kilograms heavier. So we're
- 48:29done to Neve for being a heavier older opponent. And finally another lady who
- 48:34deserves a mention, Sam Miller, decided to start her own running club and
- 48:38this week the Hawkins A Hurricans celebrate their eighth birthday under Sam's guidance. So
- 48:44Happy Birthday goes to former guest of the show, Sam and all her running
- 48:47friends in Hawkins. Now, after that little lot of girl power, come
- 48:52on, fellas, where are you get out there and do something? Tell
- 48:54me let me know, but it we just had to play this record and
- 48:58this is one that absolutely suits this little special report. Cindy Lauper. Girls
- 49:02just want to have fun, Cindy Lauper. There, girls just want to
- 49:13have That was the original version. But I remember back in the day now
- 49:22Race for Life, right, Race for Life came to folks, and I
- 49:25don't know, we can't remember how long ago it was over twenty years ago,
- 49:30and I've compared every single one up on the leaves there, so I'm
- 49:34pleased to say. And looking back, there was one year around about twenty
- 49:37ten, I think there was a special version of that song with a lot
- 49:42of girl celebrities and they made it especially for cancer research UK. I believe
- 49:47there was singers and actresses from Coronation Street EastEnders. Carolyn Quintin I think was
- 49:53part of it. I really am a jog in my memory now, but
- 49:58that it was a great year. That song was played all around the count
- 50:01all around the country actually, but I do remember it at Folkston especially very
- 50:07poignant because it's my hometown up on the stage and at the time a race
- 50:10for life was ladies only. Is open to all families now, but there
- 50:15must have been about two thousand ladies in pink dancing to this song. It
- 50:19was a great memory. So well done to all the girls that we mentioned,
- 50:22all the ladies that are doing the special challenges in our local area.
- 50:27Right time for a bit of music now, Ultra nate and free. From
- 50:43nineteen eighty two, the Manita Haller notes, Okay, time for our last
- 50:50little bit of sport. Now this hour has flown by as usual. I
- 50:53was on the mic last Sunday when nearly three hundred runners took part in the
- 50:57Bedgbury Forests ten and five mile race in the driest February conditions we've seen for
- 51:01a very long time. Two local runners took part. Laura Dixon run the
- 51:06five miler in fifty three three whilst David Collard run the ten in one hour
- 51:12forty six fifty two, both representing the happy Birthday team of Hawkins Hurricanes.
- 51:17So well done to Laura and David, because it's it's quite a trip from
- 51:21Hawkins to Bedgbury. Now just in from this morning actually results from last night's
- 51:28folkst and netball league games. Now the name of the outstanding player is included
- 51:32in the result. You'll soon get the hang of this. The teams are
- 51:37ice twenty seven, leading player was Isabelle. The Scorpions scored twenty three and
- 51:43the leading player was Isabella The Black Widows eleven, Jody Tornadoes, forty Emily
- 51:52Jets, thirty five Abby Vipers ten viv and Woodpecker's forty eight ash Air twenty
- 52:02and this one is shared between Isabelle and Hannah, and a big thanks to
- 52:07Hannah. I don't know if it's the same Hannah Hannah Palmer for those results.
- 52:13Right, what else we got? Well, I think that's about it
- 52:15for another week. At the moment, I have nothing sporty planned, but
- 52:17no doubt that will change. The forecast looks pretty dire, actually looks like
- 52:22a wet weekend, so I might cheat and go down the three Hills and
- 52:25watch some hockey from indoors behind the glass and stay dry. And do you
- 52:30say any I think we've just got bad time to squeeze another song in And
- 52:35it's Phil Collins studio. What is a studio? I've never ever found out.
- 52:38So I have a great weekend and I'll catch ull next time. One
- 52:42O five point nine Academy FM.
