- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to Surviving News Podcast.
- 0:01Speaker 1: This is going to be completely different than anything we've ever done.
- 0:05Speaker 1: I'm anxious, i'm nervous, i'm excited.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Today is my birthday, and not the day that I'm recording this, but the day that you're here in this, july 13th, is my birthday, and you all are so amazing.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Like you all sit in questions and gifts Are you kidding me?
- 0:22Speaker 1: And so for my birthday, we're doing something different and a little special.
- 0:28Speaker 1: So we're wanting to take some questions and answer some questions that may not be birthday related but can be able to fall into that birthday category, but still answer that question.
- 0:42Speaker 1: And we also have some really cool news.
- 1:23Speaker 1: I keep saying Lee, because we have Nora with us, who you all know very well.
- 1:28Speaker 1: She manages all the socials.
- 1:30Speaker 1: She has been a guest on the show multiple times.
- 1:34Speaker 1: She's so much a part of every part of behind the scenes.
- 1:38Speaker 1: There was an episode released recently We're recording this a little ahead of time, so forgive me but there was an episode, i believe, that was released recently of her and her biological mother.
- 1:49Speaker 1: So, either way, you all know her well.
- 1:51Speaker 1: After I'm done with a little bit of the intro, nora will end up taking over and driving the car today, because there's some fun, because there's a bunch of prizes and in store, and some of the announces we are announced since we have tonight are or today are involving Nora.
- 2:15Speaker 1: So, nora, you know me probably better than anybody And I keep talking and talking, because I do that when I'm nervous.
- 2:23Speaker 3: So, let's start out with how are you?
- 2:24Speaker 3: I'm good, i'm.
- 2:26Speaker 3: happy birthday, david.
- 2:27Speaker 1: We all have you, oh, thanks, i love you too.
- 2:31Speaker 3: I'm excited for this episode.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I don't want to rush through the announcements, because they're really cool and fun and great, but it probably is the speaker real quick so we can get to the birthday stuff.
- 2:42Speaker 1: So let's start with some announcements.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Our show, because of you guys, is growing every day, like I'm waking up to so many messages and so many reviews and people like they, like us.
- 3:00Speaker 1: They're showing up and that is how I get to start out my every day.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I know this is probably not the best way, because we tell kids all the time get your face out of your phone, out of your like PlayStation or whatever kids do these days, but I literally start my day every morning.
- 3:21Speaker 1: The first thing I do is look at my phone because one or 10 of you all have messaged me and shown so much love and support.
- 3:30Speaker 1: And a dream of mine since I started this show was to build and develop a network, and we're there.
- 3:39Speaker 1: We're there.
- 3:40Speaker 1: A lot of what I'm about to say to you is very new and in the works.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Of course, we're recording this early, so by the time that you hear this, there will be some more development, but right now, as recording date, there's so much that is very new and growing And I'm so excited And this gives advancement to Nora, and so I am starting a network called Surviving Pod Network And Nora is going to start the second podcast that will be under the Surviving Pod Network umbrella.
- 4:23Speaker 1: And, as you all know, i've became very passionate about TI.
- 4:27Speaker 1: A lot of the guests I've had on is TI related And if you're not familiar with TI, it's the Troubled Team industry.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Nora survived it.
- 4:37Speaker 1: A lot of our guests and listeners have survived it.
- 4:41Speaker 1: The series that put this show on the map is of several women that survived it.
- 4:48Speaker 1: And so, because that is growing and because we're so passionate about it, nora and I've been talking and we are starting a second podcast that will come out on Tuesdays.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Our tentative date is what do we decide?
- 5:05Speaker 1: August, september, 1st, september, no, september 5th, 5th, yeah, that's right.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Oh, look, i'm taking all these notes and I've set my notes beside, like behind me, because I'm so anxious about my birthday.
- 5:20Speaker 1: But yes, september 5th is tentatively and we're going to hit it very hard will be the first episode of the Surviving the Troubling Industry podcast and that will be hosted by Nora.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I'll be charming in every now and then.
- 5:37Speaker 1: But yeah, we're so excited about this, we're excited about the growing network.
- 5:43Speaker 1: We're excited about growing this troubled teen industry community with us and providing that safe place, and there's no one that I trust more to do that with than Nora.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Nora, like, how do you feel about this?
- 6:01Speaker 3: I'm super excited.
- 6:02Speaker 3: I'm still in shock.
- 6:02Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 6:04Speaker 3: I think this is going to be really a good move for us And I think people are really going to like this.
- 6:11Speaker 3: We've got some really incredible guests that we're going to be starting with.
- 6:16Speaker 3: We're going to bring back some of our old guests, like the Rebecca Girls, i don't know.
- 6:20Speaker 3: We've got some awesome stuff planned.
- 6:22Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Oh my God, me too, me too.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Okay, let's see, let me brace them on those.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that looks like everything about everybody except for me.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I'm going to turn it over to you Like this is going to be.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Oh my God, this is going to be the first time that you're the host of a show.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Before your show Yay, that's exciting.
- 6:45Speaker 1: I love that, no pressure, let's see what you do.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Happy birthday, david.
- 6:51Speaker 4: I hope you have an amazing birthday.
- 6:54Speaker 4: I hope it's just as grand as you are.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Thank you so much for everything that you're doing in the survivor community and for everyone who's experienced some sort of trauma.
- 7:05Speaker 4: You're making a difference, helping others share their stories.
- 7:10Speaker 4: I know that you helped me and I just love you so much for that.
- 7:15Speaker 4: So I hope you have an amazing, freaking, rad birthday.
- 7:18Speaker 4: Love you.
- 7:20Speaker 3: So we're going to just start off with some fun questions, like birthday questions.
- 7:23Speaker 3: What day of the week were you born?
- 7:24Speaker 3: Friday, friday the 13th.
- 7:27Speaker 3: I got married on a Friday the 13th and it rained Yeah, that's good luck.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Rain is good luck on a wedding day.
- 7:33Speaker 3: I'm not sure my birthday.
- 7:34Speaker 3: What is your zodiac sign?
- 7:36Speaker 1: I'm cancer.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Do you know what your rising sign is?
- 7:39Speaker 3: What is your favorite dinner to have on your birthday?
- 7:42Speaker 3: So, or do you prefer breakfast, or lunch.
- 7:46Speaker 1: You know what Like.
- 7:47Speaker 1: those are two different questions.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I usually prefer breakfast at night, but for my birthday.
- 7:54Speaker 1: So my grandmother is one of the best cooks and for my birthday and for my grandfather's birthday they're not the same.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So at least got a twice a year.
- 8:05Speaker 1: was, or is she still alive and does this for me?
- 8:09Speaker 1: My grandfather, unfortunately, is passed, but she makes me her homie meatloaf.
- 8:14Speaker 1: It's a whole big deal And then we have like carrots from the garden and green beans from the garden and homemade bread and potatoes And it is great.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Now I'm hungry.
- 8:29Speaker 1: So thank you, i love that.
- 8:33Speaker 1: My grandmother's meatloaf dinner is my favorite.
- 8:36Speaker 5: Hey, David, it's Dave Bouscher with the Bethel guys Just want to wish you a happy birthday, brother, and let you know that we appreciate you.
- 8:43Speaker 5: Thanks for believing with us and letting us go on your podcast and keep doing what you're doing.
- 8:47Speaker 5: I know you're making a difference for a lot of people and just have a great birthday, man.
- 8:50Speaker 5: Thanks a lot.
- 8:52Speaker 3: What's your favorite kind of cake or dessert for your birthday?
- 8:55Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Okay, if it is a homemade cake I love, like the strawberry cake, and the icing that you get that doesn't have.
- 9:05Speaker 1: it's not the sprinkles, but it's the dots, like the rainbow dots.
- 9:08Speaker 1: That's my favorite icing on a rainbow cake.
- 9:11Speaker 1: You want a quick, easy cake that I will sit in the kitchen floor and lick every spoon, every dish, and in hell it's that one.
- 9:23Speaker 3: I love that.
- 9:25Speaker 6: Hello, David.
- 9:25Speaker 6: Happy birthday to you from Aynar Haraldson, actor in Iceland.
- 9:32Speaker 6: They cool always.
- 9:34Speaker 6: I stand beside you, no matter what.
- 9:38Speaker 6: Happy birthday, David.
- 9:42Speaker 3: And then something that a couple of people have asked me to ask you is who has inspired you most this year?
- 9:49Speaker 1: This is going to sound a little corny, but it's you.
- 9:52Speaker 1: You have stuck by me from day one.
- 9:56Speaker 1: You have believed in me.
- 9:58Speaker 1: You have put in so much work to help me get to where I'm at today that I'm not sure I would have been able to accomplish myself.
- 10:06Speaker 1: You have been a saving grace for me, not just business-wise, but as a friend.
- 10:11Speaker 1: We, for instance, tonight, we started zooming.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I don't know all the plans that you have, but we kept saying, okay, in 10 minutes we'll log on and record, and then we talk for another hour.
- 10:26Speaker 1: And then in 10 minutes we'll record and we talk for another hour.
- 10:28Speaker 1: And it's not always business, but you have been.
- 10:33Speaker 1: You have become one of my best friends.
- 10:35Speaker 1: You have believed in me more than I think that I deserve And I Surviving Abuse Podcast is my baby.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I've had networks reach out to me wanting me to be a part of their network, but I know that they would maybe change some formats that I have and things that I truly stick by and believe in And I'm like no, i'm not looking at a dollar sign, i'm not looking to get a paycheck, i'm looking to be a safe place And I will be that and rise and grow on my own and take that long way.
- 11:06Speaker 1: And you have been there every bit, to the point of I could not imagine asking someone else to be a part of a network.
- 11:17Speaker 1: That I want to do.
- 11:18Speaker 1: That has become my dream and be the host of a show And with my name on it.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I knew I wanted to go on network but I thought I was going to have to be the host of every show And you've just.
- 11:30Speaker 1: You mean the world to me and to hear your story and to watch you grow and how much love and respect and faith you have in me just means the world to me.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Oh, thank you, David.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Love you.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Thank you, nora, i love you.
- 11:48Speaker 3: It's the allergies.
- 11:49Speaker 3: I'm not crying, you're crying.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I just got some Botox together.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I probably can't develop tears at the moment.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Happy birthday, David.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I am so grateful for you and to you with everything that you have done for me.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I hope you have an amazing birthday and I hope it's everything you deserve and more.
- 12:09Speaker 2: You're a magnificent person making a true change in this world and making an impact in others' lives, especially mine.
- 12:17Speaker 3: So one thing we've been talking about leading up to your birthday is how and this is a question that a lot of people have asked, i know is how milestones and birthdays and things like that change with trauma.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Yeah, so I wanted to ask you about your most memorable birthdays.
- 12:35Speaker 3: What was your most memorable birthday before your attack?
- 12:42Speaker 1: This is actually one of my favorite stories.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I think that it will take people by surprise is My very first date was to a movie theater to watch the Roger Rabbit movie And I got to take my girlfriend And of course I was what?
- 13:02Speaker 1: and I think we were fifth grade or something Like we were very young, but it was my first like date to the movies.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Now my grandmother and my father went but they said three or four rows behind us.
- 13:17Speaker 1: We went during the day and it wasn't crowded, and so her name was Cindy.
- 13:21Speaker 1: So Cindy and I sat down a few rows and we got to share popcorn And like it was corny, like I wanted to make sure that my hand touched hers, because that's what the movie tells us to do, and we just had such a good time And we had my favorite dessert, which, if it's not the homemade cake, it's something mint chocolate chip, and we went out to this really nice rush time and my girlfriend and I got to sit like this two top table together.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Then my family sat a couple of tables down And so we were alone but monitored, and it was just so amazing And I had my first kiss with her that night.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Aw, and every time I think of my birthday, i think of Roger Rabbit and I think of Cindy.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Aw, that's a cute, I like that That's adorable.
- 14:14Speaker 7: I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday.
- 14:16Speaker 7: I wanted to take time out today to tell you what an important part of many people's lives that you are, and we really appreciate what you're doing to help Those who have suffered unjustly and have struggled through life's difficulties.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Now this one's gonna be a little bit harder.
- 14:32Speaker 3: What was your birthday like during the time that you were recovering from your attack?
- 14:37Speaker 1: Yeah, this one is a hard story.
- 14:39Speaker 1: I woke up on my birthday and it was my very first birthday after my attack, so my attack happened in October.
- 14:49Speaker 1: My birthday is obviously in July.
- 14:51Speaker 1: My phone rings.
- 14:51Speaker 1: It's a phone number that I don't recognize.
- 14:53Speaker 1: It looked a little weird, a little familiar, but it was a local number And so I figured it was someone just calling to say happy birthday, right.
- 15:00Speaker 1: And so I answered it And there was a lady that said can I speak to David Cack?
- 15:06Speaker 1: And I said this is.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And she was like I am calling to let you know that your attacker which she said his name I've never mentioned his name on my podcast and I won't.
- 15:18Speaker 1: But she said your attacker is being released on free soil today.
- 15:24Speaker 1: And we were just calling to let you know the restraining order is in effect as of now.
- 15:29Speaker 1: And I was like I think you have the wrong number.
- 15:32Speaker 1: My attacker hasn't made it to prison yet.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Like he was sentenced to 12 years.
- 15:37Speaker 1: How is he getting out?
- 15:39Speaker 1: And I was so convincing to her that they have the wrong person that she said let me call you back.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Wow.
- 15:47Speaker 1: So within about 30 minutes she called me back and she was like David, i'm sorry He's getting out for good time And I lost my shit.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I was like I don't get good time.
- 15:58Speaker 1: I was with my God children the night before And before my attack they were babies.
- 16:04Speaker 1: They would love to run and we'd grab them and throw them in the air And I would always like helicopter them, like up to where they see the mirror over the fireplace.
- 16:12Speaker 1: They thought it was so fun.
- 16:13Speaker 1: So every time they see me they wanted that.
- 16:15Speaker 1: But because my balance was off, because I was 98 pounds, because I was 98 pounds depressed, they would run up to me and I didn't have the strength to pick them up And they thought I was mad at them and they would walk away crying.
- 16:29Speaker 1: And the next day I get a phone call that he gets out for good time.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I had yet to have good time.
- 16:35Speaker 1: That day was going to be.
- 16:37Speaker 1: We were having.
- 16:38Speaker 1: We were having a cookout pull party And the thing that I told everybody I even wrote it on the invitation because my attack was new and it was the hot topic for everyone to discuss.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Luckily they were my loved ones, but it was still that hot topic.
- 16:57Speaker 1: There was court and all that stuff going on.
- 16:59Speaker 1: One thing I said to everybody is my attacker is not invited to this party.
- 17:04Speaker 1: His name is not to be mentioned.
- 17:06Speaker 1: If you think about him when you see me, don't tell me he is not invited.
- 17:12Speaker 1: today And two hours before my attack I get this phone call, which means when I went to my party that was what was on And I tried to remember that he wasn't invited.
- 17:24Speaker 1: But people could see that I had been crying, people could see that I was breaking and we finally had to gather around the table by the pool and I had to tell everybody.
- 17:34Speaker 1: Guess who showed up?
- 17:35Speaker 1: Guess, who's popping out of my cake?
- 17:37Speaker 1: Guess, who is ruining one day that I was allowed to have for me?
- 17:42Speaker 1: that would not be selfish.
- 17:43Speaker 1: And it's cool to look back on now because to see the way that my loved ones were like bitch.
- 17:49Speaker 1: He's still not invited.
- 17:51Speaker 1: He is still allowed to be here.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Fuck him.
- 17:53Speaker 1: All that was cool, but in that moment it was so much worse than any black guy that he gave me.
- 17:59Speaker 1: I know that was a long, sad story.
- 18:01Speaker 6: Sorry about that but Hey, David, it's Mandy.
- 18:05Speaker 6: I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you and your show and the way you do.
- 18:12Speaker 6: Your platform and it is a safe place for all people to come and share their stories in Heal together.
- 18:20Speaker 6: I wanted to let you know how very proud of the friendship that we have together and the fact that I can come to you with other survivors and I know that they'll be taken care of.
- 18:30Speaker 6: I wanted to wish you a very happy birthday.
- 18:33Speaker 6: I am one of the fortunate people that share a birthday with Reba and I know you can't be as cool as us, but you are next level Cool.
- 18:44Speaker 6: Have a great day.
- 18:45Speaker 6: We love you.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Hopefully this one's a better one, but how have you, how has celebrating your birthday changed since your attack, and how have you found ways to get that back from?
- 18:58Speaker 1: him.
- 18:58Speaker 1: So that is a great question.
- 19:00Speaker 1: My attack is so I guess what.
- 19:03Speaker 1: I've had seven birthdays since then.
- 19:05Speaker 1: The first one was four.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Well, they've been getting better ever since.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I still try to have that mentality of he is uninvited and each year he is there a little bit less.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I have learned to do something for myself and it's cool to look back on where I am now versus that very first birthday, but still realizing the beauty of that very first birthday of all my friends and my family that was there being like fuck this dude.
- 19:34Speaker 1: So each year has just been getting better, Like I've learned to separate things a little bit and let today be about me.
- 19:42Speaker 1: That's good.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I'm glad to remember that eight years ago could have been the last birthday I ever had And I try to remember that my family and friends on July 13th could be wishing that they were celebrating with me and not putting flowers on my grave.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I try to remember that and that sounds depressing but it brings me joy because he fell at what he was trying to do and we're winning.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that.
- 20:10Speaker 3: So I just have one last.
- 20:11Speaker 3: I know how you like to end on fun stuff.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Okay, one last fun question What do you think that Cody is going to do for your birthday this year?
- 20:20Speaker 1: Okay.
- 20:20Speaker 1: so I'm glad Cody doesn't listen to my podcast, that I never thought I would say that out loud when I found out that he didn't.
- 20:27Speaker 1: but he supports me and loves me all the way through it.
- 20:30Speaker 1: But he was like bitch.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I hear you talk so much every day.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I'm not trying to listen to you in the car and in my headset, but I accidentally looked at his phone and he had planned a trip.
- 20:44Speaker 1: So my sister-in-law is a travel agent, so he had been messaging her.
- 20:48Speaker 1: So every time her name was popping up it wasn't weird, because that's my sister-in-law, he has sister-in-law, she's married to my brother.
- 20:57Speaker 1: but it was happening a lot And I saw something about Paris and France and I was like, oh, i got out of him that the plan was to take me to Paris and do all these cool things, right And.
- 21:16Speaker 1: but as we were talking, i was selling and was like, and this is going to sound really bad, but PTSD plays in things, right, and the news plays in things and ignorance plays in things, right.
- 21:27Speaker 1: So when you hear this, please understand, it was not me being an asshole, i was just like all that sounds lovely and great, but if I go to another country, i would want.
- 21:35Speaker 1: I want other people to go with us, because I don't want to just be me and you and a country where we know we have no like safe place to run to if shit happens And as a victim, we all know we have that mindset of something's going to happen right.
- 21:51Speaker 1: And so I was like there's many parts of this country that I haven't seen that I would love to see, and So he changed the trip.
- 22:02Speaker 1: I don't know where we're going.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I feel like it's either Boston, massachusetts, because we've not been there together, and there's some quote, the ghost tour and things like that.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I like some of the touristy things so.
- 22:18Speaker 1: But, and then I could see you and maybe be on the housewives.
- 22:23Speaker 1: But I feel like next year will be Utah, but I feel like this year it's either gonna be Boston, massachusetts or Maine, because I love the lighthouses, i love all the things.
- 22:33Speaker 1: So I haven't figured out which one yet, but I think it's one of those.
- 22:38Speaker 3: That sounds like fun.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it'll be so that sounds exciting.
- 22:41Speaker 3: He's the best.
- 22:42Speaker 3: I hope you have the best trip.
- 22:45Speaker 5: Oh.
- 22:46Speaker 3: I've got one last question.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Okay, people have been asking me and I've been telling him 25, but people want to know how old you are 25, you know me better, right, i Will be 42 this year.
- 23:02Speaker 3: Happy birthday.
- 23:04Speaker 3: I hope you have the absolute best birthday and the best year, and I can't wait for you to open your presents tomorrow on Facebook live.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Okay.
- 23:15Speaker 1: So, since we're ending, we'll close out by saying We're trying to do better at lives and Facebook lives and TikTok lives, all those things.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I feel like I'm getting better, trying so hard.
- 23:25Speaker 1: But Norah brought it to my attention today that we are scheduled to do a.
- 23:31Speaker 1: So, if you're listening to this, on July 13th, on my birthday, on July 14th, at 8 o'clock Eastern Standard Time, we are going to do a live.
- 23:42Speaker 1: There have been a few things shipped in that I'm not allowed to touch or open And that we will be doing live then.
- 23:54Speaker 1: So please join us.
- 23:55Speaker 1: We'll put out promos.
- 23:56Speaker 1: We'll do that.
