- 0:48Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, I'm so excited to come to Australia.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I've never been there before and it's always been on
- 0:55Speaker 1: my bucket list, so finally I get to I get
- 0:59Speaker 1: to come.
- 1:00Speaker 3: I'm super excited.
- 1:02Speaker 2: When you come in somewhere like Australia for the first time,
- 1:04Speaker 2: do you do a bit of research on the place
- 1:06Speaker 2: where do you ask people what do you expect, or
- 1:09Speaker 2: have a look around on the internet, or do you
- 1:10Speaker 2: just come over with cold and see how it goes.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Well.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I'm I like to just take things as they come.
- 1:18Speaker 1: But I do have many friends who have been to
- 1:21Speaker 1: Australia and who have many friends in Australia, so I've
- 1:26Speaker 1: heard such amazing things about Australia, so I'm yeah, I'm
- 1:34Speaker 1: just super excited to experience this beautiful, beautiful place. And
- 1:39Speaker 1: the people and everything and to play shows there. You
- 1:43Speaker 1: know it's going to be wonderful for sure.
- 1:47Speaker 2: So what are you expecting from Australian crowds? You expected
- 1:49Speaker 2: us to be rowdy, expecting us to be quiet?
- 1:52Speaker 3: What are you expecting? Oh my god, I'm I don't
- 1:58Speaker 3: know really what to expect that. No, No, aren't they
- 2:01Speaker 3: like more rowdy? I can't even mentionine they are. I
- 2:03Speaker 3: don't know why. Yeah, well that's a good thing though, But.
- 2:12Speaker 2: On the flip side of that, we don't know what
- 2:13Speaker 2: to expect from you are there? So what are we
- 2:15Speaker 2: expecting from your shows?
- 2:19Speaker 1: Well, I'm going to play on my European tour right now.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I'm in Dublin right this moment, playing your show tonight,
- 2:26Speaker 1: and I'm playing you know, for one more month here
- 2:31Speaker 1: until I come to Australia, and I'll be playing like
- 2:34Speaker 1: a of course, a shorter version of my set as
- 2:37Speaker 1: I'm guesting Hi long.
- 2:40Speaker 3: But I'm gonna play you know, some new stuff from.
- 2:45Speaker 1: My new album, and I'm also going to play some
- 2:47Speaker 1: of my older tracks. So I've created a set which
- 2:53Speaker 1: I think is will work well for this show.
- 2:56Speaker 3: So yeah, I just I don't know. I don't think
- 3:00Speaker 3: it's going to be great back, can you win?
- 3:03Speaker 2: I reckon it's going to be great Jay for the
- 3:07Speaker 2: benefit of the people of that might be just along
- 3:09Speaker 2: to see Hwhlung and haven't heard of you before? That
- 3:11Speaker 2: give us a bit of a history on Ivor and
- 3:14Speaker 2: what you've been up to.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Okay, Well, it's been a long journey for me.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And recorded my first album when I was sixteen, so
- 3:23Speaker 1: it's it was in two thousands so and I've been
- 3:27Speaker 1: releasing out studio album and it's my my thing. And yeah,
- 3:35Speaker 1: I don't know what else to say, like, yeah, what
- 3:41Speaker 1: do you want to know?
- 3:43Speaker 2: You come from a from a tiny village in the
- 3:45Speaker 2: Pharaohe Islands as well, so how is that influenced your music? Like, yes,
- 3:50Speaker 2: stuff in your music?
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I grew up in the Paroe Islands, which is
- 3:56Speaker 1: like between Iceland and Scotland, and the population is fifty
- 4:01Speaker 1: thousand people, so it's a very tiny, tiny place. And
- 4:08Speaker 1: my music is very influenced by my roots and culture
- 4:14Speaker 1: in the Faroe Islands for sure.
- 4:17Speaker 3: And I came out of folk music. My first album
- 4:20Speaker 3: is very rooted in folk music.
- 4:24Speaker 1: And then you know, as I've explored more music and
- 4:30Speaker 1: as a journey went along, I've been experimenting more and
- 4:34Speaker 1: today my music is like a mix of many different elements,
- 4:40Speaker 1: but very rooted in my roots in the Faroe Islands.
- 4:46Speaker 2: When you say it's rooted in the Pharaoe Islands, like,
- 4:48Speaker 2: is that lyrically or musically or both?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Well, I like to sing in my native language for example,
- 4:57Speaker 1: although I've sung in many many languages in England as well.
- 5:03Speaker 1: But yeah, so both when it comes to the language
- 5:06Speaker 1: which has a certain sound. Languages are like instruments, aren't
- 5:09Speaker 1: they Like they all give us different.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Sounds and feelings.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And also music wise, just the the music culture of
- 5:22Speaker 1: the Pharaoe Islands is something that that finds its way
- 5:27Speaker 1: into my creations. I think it's like somehow the inner
- 5:33Speaker 1: landscape or the core of the tree, the root of
- 5:36Speaker 1: the tree in a way, and then it's a flair,
- 5:41Speaker 1: a taste, and something new I think can sense in
- 5:45Speaker 1: the music. So yeah, in that sense, it's very rooted
- 5:50Speaker 1: in Pharaoh Spoke music is.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Very traditional instruments that he.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Is faries music traditional used to is very It's all
- 6:02Speaker 1: a cappella actually, because we were so isolated back in
- 6:07Speaker 1: time and there were no instruments in the Faroe Islands
- 6:11Speaker 1: and there are not many trees, so you couldn't like
- 6:14Speaker 1: build drums and stuff, so it's all very based on
- 6:18Speaker 1: a cappella singing. But I'm bringing shit loads of instruments though,
- 6:26Speaker 1: and I'm bringing my band with me also, and yeah,
- 6:30Speaker 1: I'm playing electric guitar and I have a lovely shammon
- 6:35Speaker 1: drum which I will bring as well if Australia will
- 6:39Speaker 1: let me bring it, Fingers crossed.
- 6:47Speaker 2: If anyone still doesn't doesn't really understand that, well, all
- 6:51Speaker 2: they gotta do is go to Netflix and watch The
- 6:53Speaker 2: Last Kingdom because you feature on the soundtrack and pretty
- 6:56Speaker 2: much the whole series of that too, don't.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, that's been It's such an adventure to be
- 7:01Speaker 1: part of that. That kind of just came into my
- 7:05Speaker 1: life all of a sudden, like, hey, can you sing
- 7:09Speaker 1: on one scene here at the Last Kingdom?
- 7:11Speaker 3: It's a series for Netflix, blah.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Blah, and I went to London to record and some
- 7:16Speaker 1: vocals and we ended up co writing the whole entire
- 7:20Speaker 1: series together, which was one of those crazy journeys.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Then you got you.
- 7:27Speaker 2: That's the job, ja, Like, I'm a big fan of
- 7:30Speaker 2: the show and I was always a big fan of
- 7:32Speaker 2: the soundtrack too, and when I read that it was
- 7:33Speaker 2: you that did it. You've done a really good job.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Well done.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Thank you so much. That's nice to hear it all.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Why here, You're also going to be doing three intimate
- 7:44Speaker 2: headline shows in Melbourne November fifth, Brisbane November fourteenth, and
- 7:48Speaker 2: Auckland November nineteen. So what do you mean by intrmate?
- 7:52Speaker 2: How are they going to be intimate?
- 7:54Speaker 3: Intimate? Yeah, it sounds mysterious, doesn't it.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Well, they are intimate in the sense that they're smaller
- 8:06Speaker 1: shows than I'm doing with Hylong, of course, because this
- 8:09Speaker 1: is my first time in Australia, and.
- 8:14Speaker 3: When I got the opportunity to also.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Play my own show, I thought, why not because I'm
- 8:20Speaker 1: bringing my whole band with me and we're all there,
- 8:24Speaker 1: so I'd love to play a longer set as well.
- 8:27Speaker 1: And so that's what we're going to do and it
- 8:31Speaker 1: will be like an expansion of what I'm what I'll
- 8:35Speaker 1: will be doing with Hyland, a longer set and yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 1: more songs and yeah, all that right.
- 8:44Speaker 2: And you also recently released the latest album in so
- 8:47Speaker 2: how has that been received?
- 8:50Speaker 3: It's been wonderful.
- 8:51Speaker 1: And I've been working on this album for a few
- 8:54Speaker 1: years now and it's such a relief to kind of
- 8:56Speaker 1: finally have it out in the world and actually now
- 9:00Speaker 1: to be touring with the material, and it's been it's
- 9:04Speaker 1: been going, yeah, beyond my expectations, and I'm very, very
- 9:09Speaker 1: proud of it. So I'm excited to play some of
- 9:12Speaker 1: the new tracks also in Australia.
- 9:16Speaker 2: I'll just say someone's coming along to the shows and
- 9:18Speaker 2: they want to know a bit more about the band,
- 9:20Speaker 2: give me three of your songs that they can listen
- 9:22Speaker 2: to get to get a better gauge on what you expect.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Okay, I would suggest that jest, they listen to maybe
- 9:31Speaker 1: n which is the title track on the new album
- 9:35Speaker 1: and one of my favorite tracks to play live, and
- 9:39Speaker 1: I will definitely play that track on the shows, and
- 9:42Speaker 1: then maybe one of my most known songs.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Schret Labundin or troll Abundin.
- 9:51Speaker 1: And one more, yeah, could that be maybe maybe you
- 9:56Speaker 1: talk on the.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Very good All right, Well, thanks very much for your time.
- 10:02Speaker 2: It's been a pleasure again to know you. You will
- 10:03Speaker 2: be here with High Long from October thirtieth three special
- 10:08Speaker 2: intimate shows and Alvin and Sidneys so we look forward
- 10:12Speaker 2: to catching me over here. Thank you.
