Speaker 5: Justin Jonfer snow and ice Mageddon. Remember when we used

Speaker 5: to have winter. Now everything has got to have a name,
• 2:03
Speaker 5: and they're calling this one Blair winter Storm. Blair to
• 2:06
Speaker 5: be exact. We'll have more on that coming up a
• 2:08
Speaker 5: little bit later on. Making a return appearance to the
• 2:10
Speaker 5: show today, Brian Hughes from a Storm Tracker thirteen. It's
• 2:14
Speaker 5: kind of gone back and forth as to what it's
• 2:16
Speaker 5: going to be. Now looks like that maybe the snow
• 2:19
Speaker 5: not as big a deal, although it is snowing right
• 2:20
Speaker 5: now in Charleston. Looks like it's a much bigger deal
• 2:23
Speaker 5: is going to be the freezing rain and the sleet.
• 2:25
Speaker 5: So we'll talk to Brian about that a little bit
• 2:27
Speaker 5: later on. Governor like Morrison is out with a partial
• 2:31
Speaker 5: list of some of his whose cabinet members are going
• 2:34
Speaker 5: to be at least some of them. Will go over
• 2:36

Speaker 5: And today is the last day for high on talk

Speaker 5: UMaine Association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of
• 3:19
  Speaker 5: the Week.
• 3:20
Speaker 6: Handah, good morning, Happy new Year.
• 3:22
Speaker 7: Good morning, happy Newer. How are you?
• 3:24
Speaker 6: I'm doing fine now.
• 3:26
Speaker 5: We have a repeat offender this week, as far as
• 3:31
Speaker 5: our Pet of the Week goes as always. Picture posted
• 3:34
Speaker 5: on Dave Allan Radio, on Facebook and at Dave A
• 3:36
Speaker 5: seventy on exit is formally known as Twitter.
• 3:38
Speaker 6: We have Cinderella again this week. We had Cinderella last week.
• 3:42
Speaker 5: Of course, you were unable to join us last week,
• 3:43
Speaker 5: so I talked about Cinderella. So there must be a
• 3:46
Speaker 5: If we get the same dog two weeks in a row,
• 3:48
Speaker 5: there must really be a big push to try to
• 3:51
Speaker 5: find Cinderella home talk about him.
• 3:54
Speaker 7: Well, of course we're pushing for everybody to get a home.
• 3:57
Speaker 7: We are still full. Our numbers are still up there.
• 4:00
Speaker 7: Of course they're going down at our more down as
• 4:03
Speaker 7: we adopt our animals, but we are still cool. So yes,
• 4:08
Speaker 7: we do want Cunderella to get a home. And of
• 4:10
Speaker 7: course she is one that is a little more hyper
• 4:13
Speaker 7: and more playful when she isn't a home, so of
• 4:15
Speaker 7: course we want to get her into a good home.
• 4:17
Speaker 7: She is about a year old. She has microchipped and
• 4:21
Speaker 7: vaccinated already, she is stayed already, so she's ready to
• 4:24
Speaker 7: go home. She's got everything she needs, she just needs
• 4:27
Speaker 7: somebody to take her on home. She is a foster
• 4:30
Speaker 7: candidate as well, so if you're not quite ready to
• 4:32
Speaker 7: make that full commitment to adopt quite yet, you can
• 4:35
Speaker 7: do that. You can take her to a foster for
• 4:37
Speaker 7: a weekend, for a night, for the week even just
• 4:40
Speaker 7: to see how she goes, and then adopts. This maybe,
• 4:42
Speaker 7: but she is around forty three ish pounds and she
• 4:47
Speaker 7: wasn't a foster home before, and they did let us know.
• 4:49
Speaker 7: I don't think they were planning on adopting or anything
• 4:51
Speaker 7: like that, but they did let us know that she
• 4:53
Speaker 7: was very hyper. She's got a lot of energy once
• 4:56
Speaker 7: she warms up to you, but she's it's pretty shot
• 4:59
Speaker 7: for so somebody that is willing to take their time
• 5:02
Speaker 7: with her at first, but also willing to be patient
• 5:06
Speaker 7: with her how hyper she is with being playful. I
• 5:10
Speaker 7: do know that when she's in playgroup she gets along
• 5:14
Speaker 7: with the other dogs well, but she does prefer calmer
• 5:17
Speaker 7: friends to be siblings or friends or anything like that,
• 5:21
Speaker 7: just so that way she isn't too overwhelmed, I think
• 5:25
Speaker 7: is the issue with her with who's around other hyperactive dogs.
• 5:29
Speaker 7: Beautiful is a candidate to go to a foster home,
• 5:33
Speaker 7: even for the weekend.
• 5:34
Speaker 5: Yeah, and she's a beautiful dog. And again, if you
• 5:36
Speaker 5: want to see Cinderella, we've got her picture posted it
• 5:38
Speaker 5: Dave Island Radio on Facebook.
• 5:40
Speaker 6: And at Dave A seventy on x.
• 5:42
Speaker 5: Let's talk about fostering because sometimes people Hannah, they want
• 5:46
Speaker 5: to get involved and they want to help out the pets,
• 5:48
Speaker 5: but sometimes for one reason or another, it just doesn't
• 5:51
Speaker 5: work out for them to be able to keep to
• 5:54
Speaker 5: adopt the dog full time or the cat or whatever.
• 5:57
Speaker 5: I've got a good friend of mine that he and
• 5:59
Speaker 5: his wife foster cats, so it's not doesn't necessarily when
• 6:02
Speaker 5: you hear us say that just like Cinderella was fostered
• 6:05
Speaker 5: by someone, and it doesn't mean that it didn't work out.
• 6:09
Speaker 5: That means that sometimes people are just in that sort
• 6:11
Speaker 5: that they enjoy doing it. They enjoy fostering these pets,
• 6:15
Speaker 5: taking them in for a while to get them out
• 6:16
Speaker 5: of the trauma that can be the shelter. So that's
• 6:19
Speaker 5: a great way for people to get involved if they
• 6:21
Speaker 5: have the means to do that. Hannah is to foster
• 6:23
Speaker 5: some of these pets.
• 6:25
Speaker 7: Yes, a lot of people, but we have actually a
• 6:27
Speaker 7: lot of regular fosters that come up and they will
• 6:31
Speaker 7: walk some dogs. If they don't walk them, they'll foster
• 6:33
Speaker 7: them or anything like that. But a lot of them
• 6:35
Speaker 7: that do foster, they aren't planning on adopting at all.
• 6:39
Speaker 7: They are literally just fostering to get the dog out
• 6:42
Speaker 7: of the shelter. To get it actually helps us learn
• 6:45
Speaker 7: them as well, because when they get out of the shelter,
• 6:47
Speaker 7: we can learn how they are in a home environment,
• 6:49
Speaker 7: which is completely different from the shelter environment. So it
• 6:53
Speaker 7: definitely helps us know them a little bit more outside
• 6:56
Speaker 7: of the chaos of a shelter.
• 6:58
Speaker 5: Agreed, Agreed and gardeners here from the GNAAL Charleston Yumaine

• 7:06
Speaker 6: It may be winter time right now.
• 7:08
Speaker 5: But before you know it, we're going to be thinking

Speaker 5: about baseball over Gomart Ballpark. Check out the twenty twenty

Speaker 5: dirty birds baseball dot com. HANDA, we're heading into some
• 7:18
Speaker 5: bitterly cold weather pretty much the entire month Brian Hughes
• 7:21
Speaker 5: tells me for January. So I had a text of
• 7:25
Speaker 5: the show yesterday from someone reminding people that, A, you know,
• 7:29
Speaker 5: we got to keep a special eye on our pets
• 7:31
Speaker 5: outside during this cold weather because it's it's going to
• 7:34
Speaker 5: get specially next week. It doesn't look like the snow
• 7:37
Speaker 5: is going to be that big of a deal. Toward
• 7:39
Speaker 5: the end of next week, well we're talking about wind
• 7:40
Speaker 5: chills possibly well below zero. Got to keep an eye
• 7:43
Speaker 5: on those outdoor pets.
• 7:46
Speaker 7: Yes, yes, if you do have any outdoor pets, make
• 7:48
Speaker 7: sure you're paying close attention to the ones that are
• 7:51
Speaker 7: out there. I know a lot of people have outside animals,
• 7:55
Speaker 7: so just make sure you're paying attention to them. One
• 7:56
Speaker 7: that drops below the really cold, you definitely want to
• 8:00
Speaker 7: bring them in or if you have any way to
• 8:04
Speaker 7: make it better outside. I know that there's a lot
• 8:08
Speaker 7: of people that have came up with some new creative ways,
• 8:11
Speaker 7: So definitely do your research. Reach out to the shelter.
• 8:13
Speaker 7: We can give you some resources. We may even be
• 8:16
Speaker 7: able to help you where something is neasy, So definitely
• 8:19
Speaker 7: reach out and we can give you any kind of
• 8:22
Speaker 7: resources that you need.
• 8:23
Speaker 5: And Aly, you did allude to the numbers, so kind
• 8:25
Speaker 5: of go over those as we close this morning, talk
• 8:27
Speaker 5: about the numbers of the shelter right now.
• 8:30
Speaker 7: Yeah, so we're still pretty hot. It seems like every
• 8:35
Speaker 7: time that we adopt out a good chunk of them
• 8:37
Speaker 7: and we're like we have a few kennels open, we
• 8:40
Speaker 7: get just that many, if not a couple more animals
• 8:43
Speaker 7: back in. So of course it's still it's kind of
• 8:46
Speaker 7: odd because we haven't been this school in the winter,
• 8:49
  Speaker 7: I don't think, but we're definitely doing a lot better.
• 8:53
Speaker 7: We're doing an adoption event right now for twenty twenty
• 8:56
Speaker 7: five twenty five dollars adoption, so definitely come out and adopts, foster, donate,
• 9:02
Speaker 7: volunteer anything the health out, even if it is just
• 9:04
Speaker 7: sharing the social media pages or anything like that.
• 9:08
Speaker 5: All Right, and it's always pleasure to talk to you.
• 9:10
Speaker 5: Happy New Year. We'll be talking to you plenty in
• 9:12
Speaker 5: the year twenty twenty five. And I understand I was
• 9:14
Speaker 5: texting with you a little bit back and forth last night,
• 9:16
Speaker 5: our good friends across the hall from us here a
• 9:18
  Speaker 5: V one hundred.
• 9:19
Speaker 6: I talked to Logan Scott, the program director.
• 9:20
Speaker 5: I think they're going to start making the Adopt Me
• 9:23
Speaker 5: Please Pet of the Week part of their things that
• 9:26
Speaker 5: some of the things that they do on the air
• 9:27
Speaker 5: as well, so I think they're trying to get that
• 9:30
Speaker 5: worked out. So maybe our pet could also be featured
• 9:32
Speaker 5: on the V one hundred website as well.
• 9:34
Speaker 6: So I'll keep you updated on that. Had to be
• 9:36
Speaker 6: safe out there. We'll talk soon. Thanks a lot, all right,
• 9:39

Speaker 5: forty three pounds. Very playful girl has been fostered in
• 9:54
Speaker 5: the past, and the foster parents seem to love her.
• 9:57
Speaker 5: She does seem to prefer calmer dawg. Though she's a
• 10:00
Speaker 5: little bit shy at first, she will warm her up
• 10:02
Speaker 5: to you. But before you consider getting Cinderella, an absolutely
• 10:05
Speaker 5: beautiful dog again, I'll get the picture posted on my
• 10:07
Speaker 5: social media sites. Make sure that you get somebody that's
• 10:11
Speaker 5: got the energy, because this is a.
• 10:13
Speaker 6: Very, very energetic dog.
• 10:14
Speaker 5: She does seem to walk well on a leash, but
• 10:16
Speaker 5: you know how energetic dogs can be on a leash,
• 10:19
Speaker 5: and so just make sure that you do your due diligence,
• 10:23
Speaker 5: make sure that before you get this or any other pet,
• 10:25
Speaker 5: that this is the correct pet for you and your family. Again,

Speaker 5: you can see Cinderella's picture posted on the social media pages.

Speaker 5: Also, we have scheduled to appear on the show the

Speaker 5: star of a new movie called Hazard.
• 11:39
  Speaker 7: Now.
• 11:39
Speaker 5: This movie centers around the drug crisis, particularly the pill

Speaker 5: West Virginia, Kentucky and Olive, Appalachia, which where the will

Speaker 5: be on the show on Monday as he and the
• 11:59

• 12:02
Speaker 5: know by now what the weather's going to be doing
• 12:04
Speaker 5: in this area, especially Sunday into Monday. They're actually traveling,

• 12:16
Speaker 5: making their rounds doing all the media stuff. So we'll
• 12:19
Speaker 5: see if that works out for them. If it does not,
• 12:21
Speaker 5: I promise you I will get them on the show.

Speaker 8: Yeah, Judiciary Chair, and I'm excited by it's gonna be active.
• 15:48
Speaker 8: We're gonna be it's gonna be a full on effort
• 15:51
Speaker 8: at judiciary. I know what I'm doing. I've been around
• 15:54
Speaker 8: this for a while. There's some pretty big bills I'd
• 15:57
Speaker 8: like to focus on. Those being things like law is
• 16:00
Speaker 8: to reform, ethics reform. I think these things are critically important.
• 16:05
Speaker 8: But there's other issues like CPS reform that I think
• 16:08
Speaker 8: we need to dig into the detail of to make
• 16:11
Speaker 8: sure the system's working. We've made a lot of improvements
• 16:14
Speaker 8: in West Virginia. I certainly want to be in a
• 16:15
Speaker 8: position to help Governor like Morrisey and Senate President elect
• 16:21
Speaker 8: Randy Smith to make sure that we're making those improvements
• 16:24
Speaker 8: we need to make. But there's a lot of work
• 16:27
Speaker 8: we can do on judiciary to make West Virginia a
• 16:29
Speaker 8: better place and make sure we're focused on West Virginia.
• 16:31
Speaker 6: Families want to talk.
• 16:33
Speaker 5: About some of the appointments that Morrissey made. Also want
• 16:36
Speaker 5: to talk about Randy Smith. He is the new Center president.
• 16:39
Speaker 5: What kind of leader do you think Randy Smith will be.
• 16:41
Speaker 8: I think he's going to be a great leader, and
• 16:43
Speaker 8: I think it's an inspiring pick for the people of
• 16:46
Speaker 8: West Virginia. You know, we get into this mindset and
• 16:48
Speaker 8: we heard a bit of this during the whole discussion
• 16:51
Speaker 8: as to who's going to be the Senate president. The
• 16:53
Speaker 8: idea that you got this degree, or you got that degree,
• 16:56
Speaker 8: or you have this professional accomplishment.
• 16:59
  Speaker 2: You know.
• 16:59
Speaker 8: Randy Smith a miner. I come from a coal mining family.
• 17:02
Speaker 8: My dad fifty one years coal miner. My grandfather's coal miners.
• 17:06
Speaker 8: That's the story of a lot of West Virginians. I
• 17:08
Speaker 8: think Randy Smith's story is if you're really smart, and
• 17:11
Speaker 8: if you work hard and you're a coal miner, your plumber,
• 17:15
Speaker 8: or any other profession, if you work hard and you
• 17:18
Speaker 8: want to be in the state Senate or an elected official,
• 17:21
Speaker 8: you can do it. And heck, you can even rise
• 17:24
Speaker 8: to the highest level and become the lieutenant governor and
• 17:27
Speaker 8: the Senate President in the process. I think it's an
• 17:30
Speaker 8: inspiring story, and I think he's surrounded by good leaders.
• 17:33
Speaker 8: It's not like this is my first ride at the rodeo, right.
• 17:36
Speaker 8: I ran the US Attorney's office, four offices across West Virginia,
• 17:41
Speaker 8: ninety employees, multime, multime multi million dollar budget, dealt with
• 17:47
Speaker 8: law enforcement at the highest levels. I know exactly what
• 17:50
Speaker 8: I'm doing here, and I'm prepared to work with Senate
• 17:54
Speaker 8: President Smith, our entire leadership team, our caucus, and Governor
• 17:57
Speaker 8: elect Morrissey to make sure we're making the improvements we
• 18:00
Speaker 8: need to continue building West Virginia so it can be
• 18:03
Speaker 8: a place we can raise our families and so we're
• 18:06
Speaker 8: safe on our streets and we have good jobs, and
• 18:10
Speaker 8: it's a place that people want to be, not place
• 18:13
Speaker 8: where they're where they happen to be.
• 18:15
Speaker 5: Talking to State Senator Mike Stewart, all right, so what
• 18:17
Speaker 5: did you think of some of the Morrissey appointments yesterday?
• 18:19
Speaker 5: He was out with the list of those some of
• 18:21
Speaker 5: them yesterday, which you think, Well, so.
• 18:23
Speaker 8: I don't know all the people, but I think, listen,
• 18:25
Speaker 8: one thing I love about Governor Morrissey or governor like Morrissey.
• 18:28
Speaker 8: He's a big thinker and he did great things as
• 18:31
Speaker 8: Attorney General. I expect great things of him in the
• 18:35
Speaker 8: role of governor. And I certainly believe that we're in
• 18:39
Speaker 8: a position We've seen big improvements over the past decade.
• 18:44
Speaker 8: I think those improvements will continue, and I think he's
• 18:47
Speaker 8: in a unique position at this point in time. We
• 18:49
Speaker 8: saw the budget figures come out yesterday. They were quite good,
• 18:53
Speaker 8: and so I think we're going to be in a
• 18:54
Speaker 8: position that we need new ideas, new solutions, but we
• 18:58
Speaker 8: actually need to fix, not tinker with things. And so
• 19:01
  Speaker 8: I think he's a big thinker and he'll provide big
• 19:03
Speaker 8: solutions on issues and this will be for the people
• 19:07
Speaker 8: of West Virginia to embrace. Change is not easy all
• 19:10
Speaker 8: the time. But if you want the next ten years
• 19:13
Speaker 8: to be better than the past ten years, or the
• 19:15
Speaker 8: next the next century to be better than the last century,
• 19:19
Speaker 8: you sometimes have to wholesale fix things that aren't working.
• 19:23
Speaker 8: And that's what I expect out of Governor Morrisey. I
• 19:26
Speaker 8: believe we'll look back eight years from now and his
• 19:29
Speaker 8: legacy will be fixing those things that were systematically broken.
• 19:34
Speaker 5: Do you see it as problematic that not all of
• 19:38
Speaker 5: the people wore West Virginians that were that were put
• 19:41
  Speaker 5: in those roles.
• 19:43
Speaker 8: We should be inviting the world to our doorstep, and
• 19:46
Speaker 8: so I love West Virginians. Listen, I was I'm from
• 19:50
Speaker 8: a hauler in Barbara County. I've talked about it many times.
• 19:53
Speaker 8: People know my background, but when I was US attorney,
• 19:56
Speaker 8: I didn't hire new attorneys to work with me because
• 19:59
Speaker 8: they were West f Virginians. I hired the best and brightest.
• 20:02
Speaker 8: I didn't care whether they were from California, Massachusetts, Florida,
• 20:07
Speaker 8: or West Virginia. We don't get a pass for not
• 20:10
Speaker 8: being the best. This is the message to all West Virginians.
• 20:14
Speaker 8: You don't get bonus points because you're from here. You
• 20:17
Speaker 8: need to work hard. And the reputation of West Virginians
• 20:20
Speaker 8: is we do work hard, we hold our own we
• 20:23
Speaker 8: do great things. But when we can bring new people
• 20:26
Speaker 8: and new ideas to West Virginia, we need to do it.
• 20:29
Speaker 8: We need to become the destination place in the world.
• 20:33
Speaker 8: And I mean that from the standpoint of competition and
• 20:36
Speaker 8: being the best, no excuses cause we're from West Virginia.
• 20:39
Speaker 8: It needs to be a rallying cry for the best.
• 20:42
Speaker 8: It needs to be the premium product.

• 21:05
Speaker 5: the country based on percentage of income for utilities. Now,
• 21:10
Speaker 5: let me set this up, and if I'm stating anything incorrectly,
• 21:13
Speaker 5: I want you to jump in at any time. Move
• 21:16
Speaker 5: dot org the ones who released this study, and they
• 21:18
Speaker 5: say the top five states with the most expensive utilities
• 21:22
Speaker 5: are and we'll hit the top five from five on down,
• 21:25
Speaker 5: Georgia in fifth, Missouri and fourth, Alabama in third, Hawaiian,
• 21:30
Speaker 5: sacond and Mountain Mama. West Virginia in the first place
• 21:34
Speaker 5: or the worst for the most expensive according to this report. Now, Hawaii,
• 21:39
Speaker 5: according to this report, has the highest overall utility prices,
• 21:43
Speaker 5: but it's based on a percentage as best I understand it,
• 21:46
Speaker 5: of income. And when you look at it that way,
• 21:48
Speaker 5: West Virginia has the highest, with the average monthly cost
• 21:51
Speaker 5: being six hundred and ninety two dollars a month, that
• 21:53
Speaker 5: being about thirteen point seventy four percent of the income
• 21:57
Speaker 5: or the house have you want to look at a
• 22:00
Speaker 5: per family in West Virginia.
• 22:01
Speaker 6: So that's exactly right.
• 22:02
Speaker 8: So there's a couple of ways you can look at
• 22:04
Speaker 8: the subject right, This was not an attack on utility companies.
• 22:07
Speaker 8: There's a whole bunch of ways you can look at
• 22:10
Speaker 8: this subject. One, we need to increase incomes of working
• 22:14
Speaker 8: West Virginians, meaning we need things like tort reform, and
• 22:17
Speaker 8: we need to continue to improve the business climate. We
• 22:20
Speaker 8: need to make sure that incomes are rising in West
• 22:23
Speaker 8: Virginia so that our utility bills are a smaller percentage
• 22:28
Speaker 8: our monthly budget. But the reality today is that because
• 22:33
Speaker 8: of national policies that prevent drilling, fracking, and mining, those
• 22:38
Speaker 8: assaults from the federal government. I'm certainly hopeful then the
• 22:42
Speaker 8: next seventeen days those policies I can guarantee are going
• 22:45
Speaker 8: to begin to change. But we have to focus on
• 22:48
Speaker 8: improving the job climate in West Virginia so that our
• 22:51
Speaker 8: utility costs are less as a percentage of our monthly budgets.
• 22:56
Speaker 8: The fact of the matter is working West Virginians have
• 22:58
Speaker 8: so much money on a monthly basis or weekly basis,
• 23:02
Speaker 8: you can't go beyond that without going into debt and
• 23:05
Speaker 8: living off credit cards. We have to focus on what
• 23:08
Speaker 8: can we do to lower the price of utility costs
• 23:11
Speaker 8: in West Virginia and what a while also mean by that.
• 23:14
Speaker 8: Look at West Virginia. There's the other flip side here,
• 23:17
Speaker 8: is there a state in the country that has more
• 23:19
Speaker 8: natural water resources, more coal, more natural gas. Why are
• 23:24
Speaker 8: those utility rates as a percentage of our income so high?
• 23:28
Speaker 8: So I think we need to take a deep dive
• 23:30
Speaker 8: on this issue understand really well what we can do
• 23:33
Speaker 8: to lower those costs. But there are a lot of
• 23:35
Speaker 8: things that go into that whole factor. I thought was
• 23:37
Speaker 8: fascinating to watch the debate on this subject, and it
• 23:41
Speaker 8: was across the board. People attacking utility companies, people attacking
• 23:45
Speaker 8: the lack of good jobs and income status in West Virginia.
• 23:49
Speaker 8: But we have to make sure that utilities is a
• 23:52
Speaker 8: percentage of our monthly budget is low. We shouldn't be
• 23:55
Speaker 8: the highest in the country. Hawaii shouldn't be below us
• 23:59
Speaker 8: in terms of a percentage of your monthly income. That
• 24:02
Speaker 8: monthly income figure, it's real because we have to live
• 24:05
Speaker 8: within those budget constraints. So we have to look wholesale,
• 24:09
Speaker 8: whether it's psc reforms, whether it's rate reforms, whether it's
• 24:13
Speaker 8: the ability to drill freck in mind more easily and
• 24:16
Speaker 8: provide those benefits to the people of West Virginia. I
• 24:20
Speaker 8: think there's a complex issue, but we need to be
• 24:23
Speaker 8: spending time to understand why is it that things went
• 24:26
Speaker 8: out of kilter, and that with all those vast resources
• 24:29
Speaker 8: we have, we're yet paying as a percentage of our
• 24:32
Speaker 8: income more than any other state in the country.

Speaker 5: a new DEI category to get a job.
• 24:58
Speaker 8: It doesn't work that way. Listen, we have to co
• 25:00
Speaker 8: I said this to my kids. I hope everybody in
• 25:03
Speaker 8: West Virginia. I think most West Virginia say this is
• 25:05
Speaker 8: you got to study hard, you gotta work hard, and
• 25:08
Speaker 8: you got to out compete. That's just the way it
• 25:10
Speaker 8: works in the world. And if we raise our families
• 25:13
Speaker 8: to work hard, study hard, and out compete, we're gonna win,
• 25:17
Speaker 8: but West Virginia won't win by being insulated from the
• 25:20
Speaker 8: rest of the world.
• 25:21
  Speaker 12: We compete.
• 25:22
Speaker 8: We not only compete with Pennsylvania and Ohio, we compete
• 25:24
Speaker 8: with California, and we compete with the rest of the world.
• 25:27
Speaker 8: So I welcome the idea of bringing more people from
• 25:30
Speaker 8: the outside. And heck, sometimes you lose the forest for
• 25:34
Speaker 8: the trees. And what I mean is sometimes being so
• 25:36
Speaker 8: insulated inside West Virginia, you get the sense of it
• 25:40
Speaker 8: has to be done this way because that's the way
• 25:41
Speaker 8: we've always done it. That's a terrible way to look
• 25:44
Speaker 8: at things. We ought to be doing things the way
• 25:47
Speaker 8: it ought to be done, with best practices and the
• 25:50
Speaker 8: best it can be done in the country. The idea
• 25:52
Speaker 8: that it's West Virginia is an excuse. That's garbage. We
• 25:55
Speaker 8: should never look at it that way. We ought to
• 25:57
Speaker 8: compete and want to compete. I want to win at
• 26:00
  Speaker 8: the highest levels.
• 26:02
Speaker 5: Tex says the policy of Trump's and Biden's administrations of
• 26:05
Speaker 5: pumping money into the economy is why people can't afford things.
• 26:08
Speaker 5: Trump is going to cut taxes for the wealthy and
• 26:10
Speaker 5: increased government spending, just like last time.
• 26:13
  Speaker 8: Now I think it's garbage. That's a garbage comment, that's
• 26:16
Speaker 8: a cheap comment without really digging into the policies. Listen,
• 26:19
Speaker 8: we have an administration today that has open border policies.
• 26:23
Speaker 8: Illegal immigrants flooding our country. We have no idea. In fact,
• 26:26
Speaker 8: they're terrorists coming across that border. We've the first policy
• 26:30
Speaker 8: of the Biden administration was to shut down the Excel pipeline.
• 26:33
Speaker 8: It costs tens of thousands of jobs. The President's right
• 26:37
Speaker 8: on this, drilling, fracking, and mining, dropping energy costs so
• 26:41
Speaker 8: that transportation costs are lower, meaning grocery prices are lower,
• 26:46
Speaker 8: putting money back into the pockets of American consumers so
• 26:49
Speaker 8: they can afford to raise their families and afford the
• 26:52
Speaker 8: groceries and the gas that goes in the car to
• 26:55
Speaker 8: get to the grocery store. These are common sense solutions,
• 26:59
Speaker 8: but it's important be money in the pockets of the
• 27:02
Speaker 8: people of our country and people of West Virginia. And today,
• 27:05
Speaker 8: the fact of the matter is we see credit card
• 27:07
Speaker 8: default rates at record highs and folks living off credit
• 27:11
Speaker 8: because it's been four years of pain and misery. We've
• 27:14
Speaker 8: got to change those things. We've got to get interest
• 27:16
Speaker 8: rates down, and we've got to get this economy moving
• 27:19
Speaker 8: it in a way that actually can be reflected in
• 27:21
Speaker 8: your wallet, just not on Wall Street.
• 27:24
Speaker 5: Tex says, Hey, Dave, ask Mike if you supports Second
• 27:27
Speaker 5: Amendment rights for medical cannabis patients.
• 27:30
Speaker 8: So I think this is an issue, and in fact,
• 27:32
Speaker 8: I only think I know this is a federal issue.
• 27:35
Speaker 8: And so the law very clearly states it's federal law,
• 27:40
Speaker 8: not state law. And there's a difference between the two
• 27:44
Speaker 8: that if you're a medical cannabis patient, you can't have
• 27:48
Speaker 8: a firearm or even the ammunition that goes in the firearm.
• 27:52
  Speaker 6: That's federal law.
• 27:54
Speaker 8: And so whoever the caller is needs to reach out
• 27:56
Speaker 8: to our federal delegation. They can change that overnight by
• 28:00
Speaker 8: voting to change those laws. But we in West Virginia
• 28:03
Speaker 8: have to follow federal law. People used to give me
• 28:05
Speaker 8: a hard time as US attorney because I understood we
• 28:08
Speaker 8: had to follow federal law. And that's something that I
• 28:12
Speaker 8: always said a US attorney, I'd not be picking and
• 28:14
Speaker 8: choosing the laws they enforce. I can only enforce the
• 28:18
Speaker 8: laws that are in front of me. And so if
• 28:20
Speaker 8: you want that law to change, you need to talk
• 28:21
Speaker 8: to the federal Delegation Texas.
• 28:24
Speaker 5: Dave, do you or Mike have any idea if the
• 28:26
Speaker 5: new governor is going to replace jimmy Riston or not.
• 28:28
Speaker 6: I have not heard.
• 28:29
Speaker 8: You'll have to ask the new governor. But I can
• 28:31
Speaker 8: tell you the new governor I think is going to
• 28:33
Speaker 8: have a big, bold agenda, and I think he's going
• 28:36
Speaker 8: to have a legislature prepared to put that agenda in place.
• 28:39
Speaker 5: I want to ask you, Mike, any comment from you
• 28:42
Speaker 5: on the horrific events that we saw New Year's morning

Speaker 5: in any comment from I mean, obviously it's horrific. Nobody's well, no,
• 28:55
Speaker 5: I actually had somebody on the show yesterday that actually
• 28:57
Speaker 5: defended it. Okay, but yeah, exactly that was my sentiment exactly,
• 29:04
Speaker 5: But your thoughts overall, So.
• 29:07
Speaker 8: I think it's a bit so this is a complex issue.
• 29:10
Speaker 8: We could talk about for a while. There's no question
• 29:12
Speaker 8: we have to condemn these types of activities, and what
• 29:15
Speaker 8: happened on the streets of New Orleans could happen on
• 29:17
Speaker 8: the streets of Charleston if we're not careful. Open border policies.
• 29:21
Speaker 8: I understand that this was an American scene.
• 29:23
Speaker 6: You know what I was going to say before I said,
• 29:25
Speaker 6: who caused this tragedy?
• 29:27
Speaker 8: But listen, we ought to not be increasing the risk
• 29:29
Speaker 8: factors faced by Americans. And so whatever the reason behind
• 29:35
Speaker 8: this disaffected person causing this immense tragedy, pain and chaos
• 29:41
Speaker 8: on the streets of New Orleans and then again in Vegas, Listen,
• 29:44
Speaker 8: my wife and I literally were in Vegas two months
• 29:48
Speaker 8: ago in October, at the end of October, and we
• 29:50
Speaker 8: walked to the Trump Hotel and we saw where that
• 29:55
Speaker 8: car was parked in front of that hotel, and listen,
• 29:57
Speaker 8: we walked right in that front door, and it could
• 29:59
Speaker 8: have been us, and so we as Americans. I've got
• 30:02
Speaker 8: a daughter that works in New York City today and
• 30:05
Speaker 8: I worry about her every single day. Not only about
• 30:10
Speaker 8: terrorist activity. I worry about the rise of violent crime.
• 30:13
Speaker 8: We have to get back to the point of being
• 30:16
Speaker 8: serious about crime and reducing violent crime in America.
• 30:20
  Speaker 9: It's soaring.
• 30:21
Speaker 8: I don't care what anybody says, that data from the
• 30:24
Speaker 8: FBI is very clear. When you see people sleeping in
• 30:27
Speaker 8: the subway in New York City, set on fire, burned
• 30:30
Speaker 8: to ashes. When you see the terrible stories that are
• 30:34
Speaker 8: happening across America. We are at an inflection point where
• 30:39
Speaker 8: we have to get serious about violent crime, putting criminals
• 30:42
Speaker 8: behind bars, but we need to close that border and
• 30:45
Speaker 8: make sure that we never forget there are groups like
• 30:48
Speaker 8: ISIS in Iran and all of these terrible militant forces
• 30:54
Speaker 8: that hate America out there. We need to make sure
• 30:56
Speaker 8: we're strong and that we never forget terrible events like
• 31:00
Speaker 8: nine to eleven or what happened on the streets of
• 31:02
Speaker 8: New Orleans or that bomb that happened at Trump Tower
• 31:06
Speaker 8: in Las Vegas, because I can guarantee they had no
• 31:09
Speaker 8: idea that Tesla's was gonna confine that explosion the way
• 31:13
Speaker 8: that it did. Right.
• 31:14
Speaker 5: I don't mean to make light of this, Mike, and
• 31:16
Speaker 5: I know where you're going with this, but I'm just
• 31:17
Speaker 5: going to say, if you're planning on causing mass chaos,
• 31:22
Speaker 5: probably don't use a Tesla because if you study this,
• 31:27
Speaker 5: the explosion actually was contained. And I'm not trying to
• 31:30
Speaker 5: downplay it, don't get me wrong. Inside the cyber truck
• 31:33
Speaker 5: and it went up. It was the equivalent to maybe
• 31:37
Speaker 5: what twenty feet out to the parking lot, and the
• 31:40
Speaker 5: windows and the doors remained intact because it held it inside.
• 31:44
Speaker 5: I'm not trying to downplay, but that was something really
• 31:48
Speaker 5: odd that struck me out of that whole thing.
• 31:50
Speaker 9: That wasn't lost on me.
• 31:51
Speaker 8: And if the cost of one of those teslas wasn't
• 31:53
Speaker 8: what it happens to me, because that was my first
• 31:55
Speaker 8: thought on this whole thing was gosh, the terrible disaster
• 31:58
Speaker 8: that happened. But secondly, I was like, man, that tesla. Right,
• 32:01
Speaker 8: if you're into personal safety and right if you're worried
• 32:05
Speaker 8: about your family, that was pretty That was amazing, Right,
• 32:08
Speaker 8: those windows didn't even crack.
• 32:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, I have one more question about cannabis.
• 32:13
Speaker 5: Anytime you're on people want to hit you on cannaba.
• 32:15
Speaker 2: I'm talking about it.
• 32:16
  Speaker 6: How what's that?
• 32:17
Speaker 8: Yeah, people listen, this is a religion for some folks.
• 32:20
Speaker 8: The whole cannabis issue. We're gonna have to in the
• 32:23
Speaker 8: next legislative session. Kentucky just passed the law these vape
• 32:26
Speaker 8: shops that have exploded across West Virginia. You'd be surprised
• 32:30
Speaker 8: about forty two to forty five percent of all the
• 32:32
Speaker 8: products sold in those vape shops, they're not FDA approved.
• 32:37
Speaker 8: It's remarkable. Kentucky just passed the law last year. They
• 32:40
Speaker 8: said anytime you're selling products that are going to be ingested,
• 32:43
Speaker 8: they need to be FDA approved. Now we have Kentucky
• 32:47
Speaker 8: vape shops, they're going to start opening up in West Virginia.
• 32:49
Speaker 8: Why to skirt the law in Kentucky? This is not
• 32:52
Speaker 8: good for us, and we ought to examine that it
• 32:55
Speaker 8: ought to be FDA approved if you're selling it to
• 32:58
Speaker 8: be ingested in the human body.
• 33:00
Speaker 5: Question though, was will you put pressure on federal reps
• 33:03
Speaker 5: to re reschedule cannabis so citizens' second men rights aren't violated,
• 33:08
Speaker 5: especially those veterans who use medical cannabis.
• 33:11
Speaker 8: This person needs to call our federal delegation. I'm just
• 33:13
Speaker 8: a citizen in West Virginia, and so I'm going to
• 33:16
Speaker 8: be the judiciary people. I'm excited to work here in
• 33:19
Speaker 8: West Virginia to try to improve the business climate. Make
• 33:21
Speaker 8: sure we're focused on the issues that are on my plate.
• 33:25
Speaker 8: But I've learned a long time ago that I only
• 33:28
Speaker 8: have so much bandwidth, and so if people listening to
• 33:32
Speaker 8: the show think that's really important, they need to call
• 33:34
Speaker 8: their federal delegation. They have the impact on that issue.
• 33:38
Speaker 8: Stuart has no impact on what those laws happen to be.
• 33:42
Speaker 5: All Right, Mike, before we close, let me talk about you. Congratulations.
• 33:45
Speaker 5: As I said on your appointment, what's the future look
• 33:47
Speaker 5: like for you? I keep hearing your name, Mike possing up,
• 33:51
Speaker 5: popping up as a possible member in some way of
• 33:54
  Speaker 5: the Trump administration.
• 33:56
Speaker 8: Well, listen, I'm happy to be the Judiciary Chair, and
• 33:58
Speaker 8: I'm excited to be here in West Virginia, and so
• 34:01
Speaker 8: I'm going to leave it to the administration. We're still
• 34:04
Speaker 8: really early in the process. If you remember back in
• 34:06
Speaker 8: twenty sixteen when I was a member of Trump forty five,
• 34:09
Speaker 8: it was July of twenty seventeen, after he'd been soworn
• 34:15
Speaker 8: in that I was actually named, and it was almost
• 34:19
Speaker 8: a year before I was put into the seat of
• 34:21
Speaker 8: US Attorney. I'm going to leave it to the administration.
• 34:23
Speaker 8: I'm certainly incredibly supportive of the entire administration policies and
• 34:28
Speaker 8: objectives here to build America first, finally again, and strengthen
• 34:33
Speaker 8: working families all across this country. But I'm going to
• 34:36
Speaker 8: do all I can to make sure President Trump and
• 34:38
Speaker 8: his team are successful in putting that agenda into place.
• 34:42
Speaker 6: If that call comes, you'll let us know, though, right.
• 34:45
Speaker 8: I'll certainly let you know. But I think that call
• 34:47
Speaker 8: would come from the President. But I'm not actively seeking that.
• 34:50
Speaker 8: I'm excited, but you're not going to turn it down either.
• 34:52
Speaker 8: If it comes, well, it depends on what the offer is. Right.
• 34:54
Speaker 8: I want to when your president calls, you get a
• 34:57
Speaker 8: chance to serve your country. It means you not only
• 34:59
Speaker 8: get a serta the people of West Virginia, but the
• 35:01
Speaker 8: nation as well. That's something that's very hard to say
• 35:03
  Speaker 8: no to.
• 35:04
Speaker 5: All Right, appreciate you being here, Mike. Thanks a lot man.
• 35:06
  Speaker 5: We'll talk soon.
• 35:07
  Speaker 6: Thank you.

Speaker 5: as well. Let me bring in though now at meteorologist
• 37:26
Speaker 5: Brian Hughes again from storm Track at thirteen.
• 37:28
Speaker 6: Good morning, sir, Good morning.
• 37:30
Speaker 9: How are you doing today?
• 37:31
Speaker 5: I am doing fine, and I'm gonna keep it brief
• 37:33
Speaker 5: because I know you got a lot of stuff that
• 37:35
Speaker 5: you got to cover today, all right, So you told
• 37:39
Speaker 5: me I texted you this morning and you this is
• 37:41
Speaker 5: a direct quote from your text. We have nailed down
• 37:43
Speaker 5: Sunday and Monday. We'll get to that in a moment.
• 37:46
Speaker 5: But what about what about today? Because I'll tell you
• 37:50
Speaker 5: when I was surprised when I got to Charleston this
• 37:52
Speaker 5: morning at about seven thirty ish, there was nothing in Charleston.
• 37:57
Speaker 5: My lawn in day's valley was covered, but there was
• 37:58
Speaker 5: no snow here. But it's coming down now in Charleston.
• 38:00
Speaker 5: So what about today, Well, you.
• 38:02
Speaker 3: Know the difference is, you know, you can step outside
• 38:04
Speaker 3: the studio right now and you can see there's nothing
• 38:06
Speaker 3: on the grass, but you can look up on top
• 38:08
Speaker 3: of the hill and there's snow up on the top
• 38:10
Speaker 3: of the hill. There's a southfield. So I give this
• 38:12
Speaker 3: is very elevation based for today. And when I say that,
• 38:15
Speaker 3: if you're by the river, you're gonna see the snowfall,
• 38:18
Speaker 3: but it will melt nearly on instant. But you gets
• 38:21
Speaker 3: top the hills, you're gonna have some of it retain,
• 38:24
Speaker 3: you know, the frozen sort of makeup of it, and
• 38:28
Speaker 3: you're gonna have light dusting. But really, if we look
• 38:31
Speaker 3: at any snow today in the Canal Valley, you're going
• 38:33
Speaker 3: to see at best up to an inch.
• 38:35
Speaker 9: But once you get up there in the mountains of
• 38:37
  Speaker 9: West Virginia, you.
• 38:37
Speaker 3: Don't Summersville, they're going to have three to five inches
• 38:39
Speaker 3: worth of snow, and then you get the way up
• 38:41
Speaker 3: the snow so they're gonna have five to eight maybe
• 38:43
Speaker 3: in some cases a little bit higher than that. But
• 38:45
Speaker 3: today's snow is just going to be more nuisance than anything,
• 38:49
Speaker 3: and it's gonna make the roads wet.
• 38:51
Speaker 9: But anything that's wet as we get past about nineteen
• 38:55
  Speaker 9: o'clock tonight will.
• 38:56
Speaker 3: Freeze because we've got temperatures will drop into the low
• 38:58
Speaker 3: twenties and upper team tonight.
• 39:00
Speaker 5: All right, so tomorrow's a quiet day. And this forecast
• 39:04
Speaker 5: for Sunday has been fine tune and back and forth
• 39:06
Speaker 5: and back and forth.
• 39:07
Speaker 6: Where are we now, sir.
• 39:09
Speaker 3: Well, we're still the mindset that we are going to
• 39:12
Speaker 3: be dealing with the snow, and the only thing.
• 39:15
Speaker 9: That's happened is we've spent up the time a little bit.
• 39:17
Speaker 3: So it'll start Sunday morning at about mid morning, and
• 39:21
Speaker 3: we'll see possibly one to three inches of snow that
• 39:23
Speaker 3: will lay down, you know, within just a few hours
• 39:26
Speaker 3: on Sunday morning up to the midday. Then as we
• 39:30
Speaker 3: get into the early afternoon, the freezing rain to sleep
• 39:33
Speaker 3: and freezing rain and then rain slowly start to work.
• 39:36
Speaker 3: As we say on that wedge up corridor g and
• 39:39
Speaker 3: up by seventy nine. As we get into Sunday evening
• 39:42
Speaker 3: and night, you know that we could see rain all
• 39:44
Speaker 3: the way far north as cartrig maybe Morgantown. So that
• 39:47
Speaker 3: cuts that snow total from Huntington to you know, Charleston,
• 39:51
Speaker 3: back over to near Faith. They'll cut it down significantly
• 39:53
Speaker 3: where we could even wash most of it out by
• 39:56
Speaker 3: sunrise on Monday morning.
• 39:58
Speaker 9: But on the back side of the system we get
• 40:00
  Speaker 9: another little.
• 40:00
Speaker 3: Layer of snow that could be one to two maybe
• 40:03
Speaker 3: three inches. So we go snow Sunday morning, one to
• 40:07
Speaker 3: three inches. It washes away as we go on a
• 40:10
Speaker 3: Sunday evening and night, and then Monday we put another
• 40:13
Speaker 3: layer of snow back down.
• 40:15
Speaker 9: With the trick about that snow that.
• 40:16
Speaker 3: Comes in Monday morning later on into the midday and
• 40:20
Speaker 3: afternoon of hours, whatever snow lays down and sticks will
• 40:24
Speaker 3: stay with us for days and days and days.
• 40:28
Speaker 5: So if people were looking for the big giant snowstorm,
• 40:31
Speaker 5: so to speak, Brian, this ain't it. Because you're because
• 40:35
Speaker 5: you're gonna get the snow that's going to fall, as
• 40:37
Speaker 5: you said, Sunday, maybe one to three inches, but then
• 40:39
Speaker 5: the rain is going to kind.
• 40:40
Speaker 6: Of wash it away because of that wedge.
• 40:42
Speaker 5: But then, you know, I think a lot of people
• 40:45
Speaker 5: like yourself are concerned about the sleet and freezing rain
• 40:47
Speaker 5: and then we go back to snow on Monday.
• 40:50
Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's the one thing that we were really
• 40:53
Speaker 3: trying to trying to get our arms around the freezing
• 40:58
Speaker 3: rain potential because we could see attempt a quarter of
• 41:02
Speaker 3: an inch. There might be a spot or two that
• 41:03
Speaker 3: has half an inch. New forecast models have higher totals
• 41:06
Speaker 3: on freezing rain for Sunday mid afternoon, in this early
• 41:12
Speaker 3: Sunday evening and even just you know, three to four,
• 41:16
Speaker 3: maybe even five hours of freezing rain, that's a problem
• 41:19
Speaker 3: and that's you know, power lines coming down, that's trees
• 41:22
Speaker 3: coming up on the power lines, and so you know
• 41:25
Speaker 3: that is a big concern. But you know, especially if
• 41:28
Speaker 3: you get a little wind with it, which everything is
• 41:30
Speaker 3: going to be breezy on Sunday into Monday. So that's
• 41:35
Speaker 3: the last little piece of the puzzle that we're trying
• 41:37
Speaker 3: to figure out. But more than anything, snow wedge warms
• 41:41
Speaker 3: it up, washes away, and then it's snow again on Monday,
• 41:44
Speaker 3: and then we go into an arctic freeze after that.
• 41:46
Speaker 5: All right, quick text for you says, ask Brian about
• 41:48
Speaker 5: the warm wedge which will went out and the central
• 41:51
Speaker 5: West Virginia area including Charleston will have rain after a
• 41:53
Speaker 5: bit of snow. The warm wedge always wins out, Brian.
• 41:57
Speaker 9: It always does, and it's just one of those things.
• 42:01
Speaker 3: It's on the northern fringe of the mountain chain, and
• 42:04
Speaker 3: when you just get a southwest wind, it essentially comes
• 42:07
Speaker 3: out of the the.
• 42:10
  Speaker 9: Ten Tom area.
• 42:11
Speaker 3: You get back into parts in northern Alabama and back
• 42:14
  Speaker 3: into Tennessee.
• 42:15
Speaker 9: And you just get a little warm air just on
• 42:16
Speaker 9: the northern side of the mountain chain.
• 42:18
Speaker 3: It just gets drawn up ahead of these storm systems,
• 42:20
Speaker 3: and then that's always winds because you can't overcome that
• 42:24
Speaker 3: warm air unless you have Arctic air that's going to
• 42:27
Speaker 3: take over immediately after that. So the warm wedge always
• 42:30
Speaker 3: winds on moderate storm systems with just enough cold. But
• 42:35
Speaker 3: if this was an Arctic front that was moving in
• 42:38
Speaker 3: just as the storm got here, it would be a
• 42:40
  Speaker 3: little bit different.
• 42:41
Speaker 9: But that is up the case warm wedge winds.
• 42:42
Speaker 5: So we're going to have the Arctic later on in
• 42:44
Speaker 5: the week, but there's not going to be precipitation, at
• 42:47
Speaker 5: least not as much like as I say, like Wednesday Thursday,
• 42:49
Speaker 5: it's going to be much colder, but we're not going
• 42:51
Speaker 5: to have the snow to work with at that point.
• 42:53
Speaker 3: Is that what you're saying, right, The best we're going
• 42:55
Speaker 3: to have is is the occasional little snow shower upslope,
• 42:58
Speaker 3: snowshowers of the mountains.
• 42:59
Speaker 9: Sit down here in the canal valley.
• 43:01
Speaker 3: We're going to see the occasional snowshower snow flurries on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday,
• 43:07
Speaker 3: and then we want to see what happens, you know,
• 43:09
Speaker 3: next weekend. There is there have been some indications of
• 43:12

• 48:12
Speaker 5: I've also got it posted on my ex page at
• 48:14
Speaker 5: day A seventy. I will say this about Hoppy. I
• 48:17
Speaker 5: first met Hoppy back in the mid nineteen nineties. I
• 48:20
Speaker 5: talked to him on the phone, you know, this is
• 48:23
Speaker 5: before email. I talked to him a couple times, but
• 48:26
Speaker 5: did not meet him in person until I don't know,
• 48:28
Speaker 5: sometime maybe mid to late nineties. He and Stephen Reid
• 48:31
Speaker 5: came down to Logan, where I was doing radio at
• 48:33
Speaker 5: the time, to do a live talk line show from
• 48:35
Speaker 5: the Colefield Jamboree Theater. I'm not really sure why they
• 48:39
Speaker 5: came down. I don't remember that, do remember coming, and
• 48:42
Speaker 5: it was the first time I met him in person,
• 48:44
Speaker 5: but I felt like I already knew him, and Hoppy
• 48:47
Speaker 5: kind of has the ability to do that. And through
• 48:50
Speaker 5: the years we talked occasionally, but you know, like you,
• 48:53
Speaker 5: I was a listener. I did the morning show on
• 48:56
Speaker 5: WVW Radio and Logan for over twenty years, and some
• 49:00
Speaker 5: of my duties and when I got off the air
• 49:02
Speaker 5: included putting Hoppy Kirchwell on the air and do my
• 49:05
Speaker 5: sign offs and whatever on the local call and show.
• 49:08
Speaker 5: And then I would just run down the hall and
• 49:09
Speaker 5: put put Hobby Kirchwelle on talk line at at ten
• 49:12
Speaker 5: oh six, and and so I listened, went back into
• 49:16
Speaker 5: my office or whatever I was doing, as best I could.
• 49:18
Speaker 5: I listened to some of those names along with Hoppy,
• 49:21
Speaker 5: Don Marsh of course, Logan County Guy, Kay Murray, Stephen
• 49:25
Speaker 5: Reid mentioned him earlier, Don Cook, and so many names
• 49:28
Speaker 5: that made the show great in the early days. But
• 49:31
Speaker 5: the star, the star was always Hoppy. But I do
• 49:35
Speaker 5: want to clarify that for a moment by saying the
• 49:37
Speaker 5: real stars, and I'm sure Hoppy would tell you this.
• 49:40
Speaker 6: The real stars were the guests to the show, the.
• 49:43
Speaker 5: Governors, senators, legislators, authors, you name it. They were the stars,
• 49:50
Speaker 5: as were you the listeners, and later the the It
• 49:53
Speaker 5: was the callers early on. Now it's calls and text.
• 49:58
Speaker 5: And I've said this before, you I know you've made
• 50:00
Speaker 5: a difference when people don't refer to the show by
• 50:03
Speaker 5: its given name talk Line, but rather they refer.
• 50:06
Speaker 6: To it as Hoppy.
• 50:08
Speaker 5: You know, I worked in state government for four years,
• 50:12
Speaker 5: and I've been around politics in one form or another
• 50:14
Speaker 5: for the biggest part of eleven years, and I can
• 50:17
Speaker 5: tell you a lot of the talk daily was did
• 50:19
Speaker 5: you hear what fill in name here said on Hoppy today?
• 50:22
Speaker 5: Or who's on Hoppy today? And I guess the rest
• 50:26
Speaker 5: of the country kind of caught onto the hobby kerchival phenomenon,
• 50:31
Speaker 5: primarily due to out going Senator Joe Manchin. When they
• 50:35
Speaker 5: wanted to know what Joe was thinking on a particular
• 50:37
Speaker 5: build or something like that, they tuned into Hoppy because
• 50:40
Speaker 5: they soon learned that Hoppy would have the info first,
• 50:44
Speaker 5: you know, and from his coverage of West Virginia University,
• 50:47
Speaker 5: his daily commentaries just all just amazing stuff.
• 50:51
Speaker 6: And I told this story. I'll close this.
• 50:53
Speaker 5: A couple of years ago, Hopy was in town covering
• 50:55
Speaker 5: the legislature and had a little downtime and there was
• 50:57
Speaker 5: a major apartment fire in Charleston.
• 51:00
Speaker 6: What did Hopy do?
• 51:00
Speaker 5: He left his hotel, went down with his phone and
• 51:02
Speaker 5: his notepad and was doing in doing live reports from there.
• 51:08
Speaker 5: Hoppy Kerchival was doing that for for Metro News in
• 51:11
Speaker 5: the local w c HS here in Charleston. And you know,
• 51:14
Speaker 5: I took over the show from Danny Jones back in
• 51:19
Speaker 5: twenty twenty, and certainly was not easy following someone like
• 51:22
Speaker 5: Danny Jones. The first emails of encouragement, though I got,
• 51:26
Speaker 5: and sometimes I will say constructive criticism came from Hoppy
• 51:30
Speaker 5: Kerchival and for that I will be forever in his debt.
• 51:34
Speaker 5: And you know he's going to pop up from time
• 51:38
Speaker 5: to time on talk Line, which starting.
• 51:40
Speaker 6: On Monday, will be hosted by Dave Wilson and TJ. Meadows.
• 51:43
Speaker 5: Don't be surprised if you hear him on there from
• 51:45
Speaker 5: time to time. Sports Line. He may still do the
• 51:50
  Speaker 5: Three Guys.
• 51:51
Speaker 6: Actually, he's still going to do Three Guys.
• 51:53
Speaker 5: He's going to be around the state tournaments, in March
• 51:56
Speaker 5: and and hopefully he'll be available to continue to serve
• 52:02
  Speaker 5: as a mentor.
• 52:05
Speaker 6: Two people like myself and TJ.
• 52:08
Speaker 5: Meadows and Dave Wilson and so many others that do
• 52:11
Speaker 5: what we do throughout the Metro News family around the
• 52:14
Speaker 5: state of West Virginia. Hoppy, thank you, You're the goats.
• 52:19
