- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with I Heart Radio. It's one of those games where
- 0:20Speaker 1: you're sitting here watching and you go, I don't I
- 0:22Speaker 1: don't know anything anymore, Like I just wow. Okay, we
- 0:25Speaker 1: got a lot to talk about tomorrow, and with that,
- 0:26Speaker 1: we welcome you to a Tuesday edition of NFL Now
- 0:29Speaker 1: and NFL Network. That is Steve White. My name is
- 0:32Speaker 1: Andrew Ceciliano. Coming up is Jared Allen get into the
- 0:35Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. We will ask him he's getting honored
- 0:38Speaker 1: by the Vikings this week. Also coming up, we'll hear
- 0:41Speaker 1: from Tom Brady and we'll tell you about the autograph
- 0:44Speaker 1: that wasn't an autograph. Gee, Andrew, I wonder what it
- 0:47Speaker 1: actually was. That's a heck of a tease, Know yours
- 0:51Speaker 1: was a heck of a tease. It's little sarcasm coming
- 0:54Speaker 1: from me, my friend. Okay, Well, tell you what Mike
- 0:57Speaker 1: Evans was actually doing, trying to figure out what the
- 1:00Speaker 1: Patriots were doing last night. Here they started Mac Jones.
- 1:03Speaker 1: He he went three for six, see kicked a guy
- 1:06Speaker 1: and the groin that guy later intercepted him and then
- 1:08Speaker 1: he got benched for Bailey's appy who came out firing,
- 1:12Speaker 1: and hey, look that's a great throw right there, a
- 1:14Speaker 1: fantastic catch. I mean, it's little behind him gets in
- 1:18Speaker 1: the end. Owe, it's appy mania. Jacoby Myers had the touchdown,
- 1:22Speaker 1: Bailey's happy leads into two touchdowns and then Justin Fields
- 1:26Speaker 1: takes over the Bears win. Big, Bill Belichick, what's going on?
- 1:31Speaker 1: Was Mac Jones healthy enough to play the entire game
- 1:33Speaker 1: last night? Yeah? Well that that didn't happen. So that's
- 1:37Speaker 1: another hypothetical question, Bill, How did you feel Mac moved around? Um?
- 1:43Speaker 1: Look all right? And and if if as you move forward,
- 1:46Speaker 1: if if he's healthy, Bill, is he is it fair
- 1:49Speaker 1: to say, if he's healthy, he's the starter? Again, that's
- 1:55Speaker 1: a hypothetical question. So let's let's see you know where
- 1:59Speaker 1: that is and what that is. Do you feel like
- 2:03Speaker 1: you need to us the quarterback situation with the team,
- 2:07Speaker 1: in your opinion, can impact other players if there is
- 2:11Speaker 1: some uncertainty yet that spot because it is a unique position. Yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 1: As I said after the game flow, I think we
- 2:18Speaker 1: need to all do a better job coaching, playing, offensive defense,
- 2:23Speaker 1: special teams. We need to do a better job in
- 2:25Speaker 1: every area, period. So everything, everything needs to improve. Based
- 2:31Speaker 1: on last night, looks like that backdrop. Hey there, Judy,
- 2:35Speaker 1: Hey there, Mike Gi already said no Bill or no bowl.
- 2:38Speaker 1: I can't figure it out, but it's interesting they're trying
- 2:40Speaker 1: to decipher what Bill Bello are you hypothesizing? Was saying
- 2:44Speaker 1: that this this felt a little different. Mike and you
- 2:46Speaker 1: were there because some of the players offensive players, notably
- 2:50Speaker 1: after the game, We're kind of like, I, we don't
- 2:52Speaker 1: know what was going on here. Even though Belichick and
- 2:54Speaker 1: the quarterbacks kind of all had their story straight. They
- 2:57Speaker 1: knew they said what was going on. I think it
- 3:00Speaker 1: would have been different if Belichick had just said, listen,
- 3:03Speaker 1: Mac looked good enough during the week after a couple
- 3:06Speaker 1: of series, he didn't look right, So we went with
- 3:09Speaker 1: Bailey zappy. But that's not what he said. I have
- 3:13Speaker 1: spent twenty plus years trying to get into the mind
- 3:16Speaker 1: of Bill Belichick. UM, I'm a little baffled by this
- 3:19Speaker 1: one and his responses to it. I'll say this, look
- 3:22Speaker 1: to your point about the communication, and Belichick reiterated this
- 3:26Speaker 1: morning that he talked to the quarterbacks and the key
- 3:28Speaker 1: leaders on the team, but as you mentioned, most of
- 3:31Speaker 1: the offensive guys didn't understand that this was the plan
- 3:34Speaker 1: that both quarterbacks were going to play. Belichick could tell
- 3:37Speaker 1: the broadcast team last night, but he couldn't tell his
- 3:41Speaker 1: own team that last night. And then to hear some
- 3:43Speaker 1: of the players afterwards, Jacobe Myers in particular, talking about
- 3:47Speaker 1: having the chance for zappy zappy while mac Jones is
- 3:50Speaker 1: out on the field get louder and louder, and he
- 3:53Speaker 1: said that really stunk. You know, as a man, you know,
- 3:55Speaker 1: forget about being a football player, knowing how much work
- 3:58Speaker 1: he'd put in, how tough he is, to have to
- 4:00Speaker 1: have him listen to that was hard for us. And
- 4:04Speaker 1: I talked to another there today via text, and it
- 4:06Speaker 1: was just like the same thing, like, Look, we don't
- 4:07Speaker 1: care how they arrived at the decision, that's not up
- 4:10Speaker 1: to us, but we feel like Mac deserves a little
- 4:13Speaker 1: bit more credit for the people around here based on
- 4:16Speaker 1: what he did last year and based on the ownership
- 4:18Speaker 1: he's taken this year. Look, it hasn't gone great, clearly,
- 4:21Speaker 1: there's been some regression, but I think in the locker
- 4:23Speaker 1: room still they believe mac Jones gives them the best
- 4:27Speaker 1: chance to be the kind of team that they want
- 4:28Speaker 1: to be. Uh Now, it's a question of whether or
- 4:31Speaker 1: not the coaching staff feels the same way after last night.
- 4:35Speaker 1: This whole situation has been mystifying really since before the
- 4:39Speaker 1: season even began, with the decision to not hire an
- 4:41Speaker 1: experienced offensive coordinator and play caller and go with Joe
- 4:46Speaker 1: Judge and Matt Patricia some combination of them running the offense. UM,
- 4:50Speaker 1: and and now here we are and by the way,
- 4:52Speaker 1: neither quarterback is performing well. Um mac Jones. Maybe it
- 4:56Speaker 1: is the injury, but he's had a bunch of interceptions
- 4:59Speaker 1: this year, so Zathi he's had three, UM And I
- 5:03Speaker 1: wondered watching this lie to night, Um, as you pointed out,
- 5:07Speaker 1: like do you now have to rebuild the team's confidence
- 5:10Speaker 1: in mac Jones if he's going to be the starter?
- 5:12Speaker 1: And on on the hand with ZAPPI, uh, with the
- 5:15Speaker 1: second half sort of nothingness? Did did he lose his
- 5:18Speaker 1: chance to seize the job? It? It left them I
- 5:21Speaker 1: think in an even worse position to make a decision, Um,
- 5:25Speaker 1: than they were entering the game. I have no idea
- 5:28Speaker 1: which way they will go. And I was watching it
- 5:31Speaker 1: last night and wondering what are they trying to accomplish here?
- 5:35Speaker 1: And I agree with you Andrew, if they had just said, look, um,
- 5:39Speaker 1: he didn't look right out there. Mac Jones just didn't
- 5:41Speaker 1: look right out there. He didn't look healthy out there,
- 5:43Speaker 1: so we had to get him off the field. Okay,
- 5:45Speaker 1: that's understandable, but that's not the direction they have gone in.
- 5:48Speaker 1: One thing to keep in mind, they played the Jets
- 5:50Speaker 1: this week and the Jets have been ball hawks. They
- 5:53Speaker 1: have eight interceptions already this season, so they are going
- 5:56Speaker 1: to be hunting no matter which quarterback is the starter. Yeah, June, Know,
- 6:00Speaker 1: as I watched that game, I kept on saying, by
- 6:02Speaker 1: Bill Belichick had it pretty good for seventeen years in name,
- 6:06Speaker 1: you know what, Tom Brady was there, he didn't have
- 6:07Speaker 1: to come to these types of decision to talk about
- 6:09Speaker 1: hypothetical questions and and things like that, but now he does.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And what I when I kept keep coming back to
- 6:16Speaker 1: is even though Bailey's happy, he wasn't necessarily winning. But
- 6:19Speaker 1: for you know, almost four games he played pretty well.
- 6:22Speaker 1: He had a little buzz going to him, but they
- 6:23Speaker 1: still went back to mac Jones. They either telling me
- 6:26Speaker 1: they've got confidence in him because he's played a full
- 6:29Speaker 1: season as a starter last year. Um, that play right,
- 6:33Speaker 1: they were their playoffs that He's gonna be there guy. Um,
- 6:36Speaker 1: the fact that they went back to him, but just
- 6:37Speaker 1: it just spoke to me like he still seems like
- 6:39Speaker 1: when he's healthy, he's gonna be it. But is he?
- 6:41Speaker 1: Is he healthy? You know? Is the momentum of Bailey's
- 6:44Speaker 1: happy I don't know the second half after the Bears
- 6:46Speaker 1: got that lead and they needed to put it on,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Bailey's happy to make plays to win. He didn't make them.
- 6:50Speaker 1: He was doing the interceptions. You know, is he just
- 6:53Speaker 1: not ready yet? They've got a lot of things to answer,
- 6:55Speaker 1: But I think Judy was said that the big point
- 6:57Speaker 1: it's all mystifying, going back to them not deciding what
- 7:00Speaker 1: they were gonna do with their offensive coaching staff. Are
- 7:02Speaker 1: either of these quarterbacks being coached up to where they
- 7:05Speaker 1: can excel to the fullest? That's something I think the
- 7:07Speaker 1: Patriots need to be asking themselves as well. I see
- 7:10Speaker 1: Mike Jority raising his hand right there. Yes, Mr Giardi,
- 7:14Speaker 1: I bring up the word again, regression. I think where
- 7:17Speaker 1: mac Jones was last year to where he is now,
- 7:19Speaker 1: it's an entirely different place. And look, I think you've
- 7:22Speaker 1: seen it in the course of time. When you change
- 7:24Speaker 1: offensive coordinators for a young quarterback and they're on their
- 7:27Speaker 1: second o C in their second year. Generally, generally it
- 7:31Speaker 1: does not go well. There are numbers that back this up, Um,
- 7:34Speaker 1: and now the Patriots are caught in this position where
- 7:36Speaker 1: they've committed to it. You've got to figure out a
- 7:37Speaker 1: way to get the best out of these guys, whichever
- 7:39Speaker 1: one it is. Pick one though, and go with it. Listen, Um,
- 7:42Speaker 1: this wasn't like some one o'clock game on Sunday to
- 7:45Speaker 1: twelve percent of the nation. This factors in it as well.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And you had all of Americas sitting there Football America
- 7:52Speaker 1: on Twitter going what was Mac Jones gonna get traded
- 7:54Speaker 1: next week? Now, it's just it kind of took on
- 7:56Speaker 1: a life of its own as a play at in
- 7:57Speaker 1: real time. The other side of the story is the
- 8:00Speaker 1: Bears in justin fields really well and they deserve credit.
- 8:03Speaker 1: We will give them a second absolutely a little bit later.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Thank you, Judy, thank you Mike. Let's roll into our
- 8:13Speaker 1: insiders here and as mentioned, the trade deadline right around
- 8:16Speaker 1: the corner. It is eight days from today. Tom Pilasero,
- 8:20Speaker 1: Mike Garifolo with me, Mike, we had a trade right
- 8:22Speaker 1: before kickoff last night. The Jets, with their injuries, went
- 8:26Speaker 1: and got a running back, James Robinson from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Robinson was active and did play in that game against
- 8:33Speaker 1: the Giants, but zero carries. He had twelve snaps, which
- 8:37Speaker 1: was by far his lowest of the season. Doug Peterson
- 8:40Speaker 1: saying that Robinson was going through a knee soreness issue.
- 8:44Speaker 1: The Jets said, let's check in on that now. It
- 8:48Speaker 1: sounds like something he could potentially play through and he'll
- 8:51Speaker 1: be fine. So we're gonna send a sixth round pick
- 8:53Speaker 1: that could become a fifth to acquire James Robinson to
- 8:55Speaker 1: help fill in for Breece Hall, the rookie running back
- 8:59Speaker 1: who was sensational but then was lost with a torn
- 9:02Speaker 1: a c l many a Jet fan texting me after
- 9:04Speaker 1: that news hits, saying, why can't we have anything nice? Well,
- 9:08Speaker 1: the season is still going well, and you got yourself
- 9:09Speaker 1: a nice replacement in James Robinson. You don't have yourself.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Elijah Vira Tucker, however, one of the offensive lineman who
- 9:16Speaker 1: would have been blocking for Robinson, but he will now
- 9:18Speaker 1: be lost for the season with a triceps injury. So
- 9:21Speaker 1: haul a second round pick this year. Vera Tucker, a
- 9:25Speaker 1: first round pick from the year ago. Both lost by
- 9:28Speaker 1: the Jets, but Joe Douglas saying, hey, we're feeling good
- 9:31Speaker 1: about where we are. We are right in the mix,
- 9:32Speaker 1: so we're gonna make a move for Robinson, and he did.
- 9:34Speaker 1: Let's see what he can do, uh, and how quickly
- 9:37Speaker 1: he can do it for the Jets. Four pm Eastern time,
- 9:40Speaker 1: one week from today, the NFL's trade deadline. We obviously
- 9:44Speaker 1: will have full coverage for you next Tuesday. We today,
- 9:48Speaker 1: Tom Pella Sero, have full coverage of Mike Evans and
- 9:51Speaker 1: officials and golf and autographs, and tell me what's going
- 9:56Speaker 1: on here. Well, Mike Evans spoke to reporters a short
- 10:00Speaker 1: time ago and confirmed what I said in the first
- 10:02Speaker 1: hour of the show, which was no, he was not signing,
- 10:05Speaker 1: nor was he asked for an autographed by those officials
- 10:08Speaker 1: you see there. They were actually having a conversation about golf.
- 10:12Speaker 1: So what I am told is that Mike Evans and
- 10:15Speaker 1: the side judge Jeff Lambert, who you can see Evans
- 10:18Speaker 1: left there, both went to Texas a and m Lambert
- 10:21Speaker 1: was actually getting evans phone number to pass it along
- 10:24Speaker 1: to a golf pro to give Evans golfing lessons in
- 10:28Speaker 1: the off season. Lambert did not have paper, so he
- 10:31Speaker 1: borrowed it from the other official line, judge Trips Sutter.
- 10:34Speaker 1: The NFL released a statement today saying that the review
- 10:37Speaker 1: is complete. They were able to confirm after speaking with
- 10:39Speaker 1: the parties involved, that no, no one was signing an autograph,
- 10:42Speaker 1: but also said those two officials have been reminded that
- 10:46Speaker 1: it is important to not give off the impression of
- 10:50Speaker 1: favoritism or impropriety in terms of your interactions with players, coaches,
- 10:54Speaker 1: staff members of teams before, during, or after the game.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Here's another quote here, um from Mike Evans. I wasn't
- 11:02Speaker 1: signing an autograph. I'll tell you that where all human beings.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I talked to a lot of officials. He's a nice guy.
- 11:08Speaker 1: We were just talking about golf. Okay, we're talking about
- 11:13Speaker 1: a trade. Actually, Tom, back to the trade stuff. We
- 11:15Speaker 1: have a trade here between the Raiders and the Cowboys.
- 11:21Speaker 1: It's right, Andrew. It's the veteran defensive tackle Jonathan Hankins,
- 11:24Speaker 1: who was being traded from the Raiders to the Cowboys
- 11:27Speaker 1: along with a twenty four seventh round pick in exchange
- 11:31Speaker 1: of a three sixth round pick. That will go to
- 11:35Speaker 1: the Raiders. Now, this is one of probably a handful
- 11:37Speaker 1: of these types of trades that you'll see between now
- 11:40Speaker 1: and next Tuesday. Veteran players who were in the last
- 11:43Speaker 1: year of their contracts getting flipped for late round draft
- 11:46Speaker 1: pick compensation their teams with various needs. There are teams
- 11:49Speaker 1: that have injuries pop up, which was of course the
- 11:51Speaker 1: case with the Jets before they acquired James Robinson. And
- 11:55Speaker 1: after next Tuesday at four pm Eastern, you cannot trade anymore,
- 12:00Speaker 1: that is it. So again, expect a lot of activity.
- 12:02Speaker 1: There will be a lot of calls. There's a lot
- 12:04Speaker 1: of names followed around right now. Will we get anything
- 12:06Speaker 1: as big as Christian McCaffrey, That remains to be seen.
- 12:09Speaker 1: But when we get some more of these types of trades,
- 12:11Speaker 1: you would certainly think so. So stay tuned to NFL
- 12:14Speaker 1: Network for all that fun over the next great job, Tom,
- 12:17Speaker 1: Maybe we can get a promo going here for the
- 12:19Speaker 1: trade deadline coming up next Tuesday. Tom loves promo, just
- 12:22Speaker 1: loves him. Thinking the future is now? Okay, Sorry, let's
- 12:27Speaker 1: go ahead. Inside jokes boy, pull the curtain back, Why
- 12:33Speaker 1: don't you? Tom Pella Sero, Mike Daryl Follo, Thank you both.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Coming up next, will promo this guy. Actually, let's promo
- 12:40Speaker 1: him down the great Jared Allen coming up next, getting
- 12:44Speaker 1: honored by the Vikings. This coming Sunday. There he is.
- 12:48Speaker 1: He's like your television straight ahead back to past Patty
- 12:58Speaker 1: sacked right out of the gate, Jared Allen gets him
- 13:01Speaker 1: at the fifteen yard line. What a terrific rush and
- 13:05Speaker 1: a big time hit applied by Jared Allen and Rogers.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Now he's under pressure and he is sicked by Jared
- 13:12Speaker 1: Allen at the twenty and Cam takes a low. Ryan
- 13:14Speaker 1: Khalil's now pomps balls enough clues up for Crabs picked
- 13:18Speaker 1: up by Jared Allen. Here he's sacked by Jared Allen.
- 13:22Speaker 1: That's the fourth time Jared Allen's brought down Philip Rivers
- 13:25Speaker 1: in his career. And for Jared Allen, that's a sack
- 13:28Speaker 1: in eight consecutive games, tying Jim Marshall and Carl Eller.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Another sack by Jared Allen, who leaves the National Football
- 13:35Speaker 1: League in Saxon. What a career this guy had. He
- 13:40Speaker 1: once had twenty two sacks in a season. What a
- 13:43Speaker 1: five NFL players with at least twenty two sacks in
- 13:46Speaker 1: a season, and how about this seven consecutive seasons with
- 13:51Speaker 1: ten or more sacks right up there with guys who
- 13:54Speaker 1: already have gold jackets. Get to the Golden jacket coming
- 13:57Speaker 1: up in a second. Let's get to the Vikings on
- 14:00Speaker 1: her first. Jared Allen with us Live on NFL. Now, Jared,
- 14:03Speaker 1: good to see. How are you always good to be seeing?
- 14:06Speaker 1: I'm doing well. You're being honored by the Vikings on Sunday,
- 14:10Speaker 1: the twenty seven member in the Vikings Ring of Honor.
- 14:14Speaker 1: What does that mean to you? Oh? Man, it's humbling,
- 14:17Speaker 1: I tell you what. It Just to be a part
- 14:20Speaker 1: of that storage franchise and especially what they have produced
- 14:23Speaker 1: over the you know, generations of the Lineman. So I
- 14:26Speaker 1: think out of that twenty seven, I think seven of
- 14:28Speaker 1: them already Lineman. Uh So, just to be a part
- 14:31Speaker 1: of that, that that club, that elite family. Um, it's
- 14:36Speaker 1: it's hard to put into words because it's just it's
- 14:38Speaker 1: such an honor, and you know, it's reminiscent you're talking
- 14:40Speaker 1: about it with some of the other day that you know,
- 14:42Speaker 1: every stadium I always went into, I always went up
- 14:44Speaker 1: and looked up at the Ring of Honor because you
- 14:46Speaker 1: want to you. I love the tradition. I love the
- 14:48Speaker 1: feel of that, right, and and that you're representing the
- 14:51Speaker 1: guys that played this game before you and so now
- 14:54Speaker 1: to be a part of that, to be a part
- 14:55Speaker 1: of that history. Uh, for young guys to come up
- 14:58Speaker 1: and look and see you know, your name and the
- 15:00Speaker 1: Ring of Honor and hopfully that inspires them for greatness.
- 15:02Speaker 1: And it's it's really a cool deal. That's pretty cool.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I don't know that anyone's ever said that that part
- 15:06Speaker 1: of their pregame routine as you travel around the league,
- 15:09Speaker 1: he's looking at these individual Ring of honors. And there's
- 15:12Speaker 1: so many other great d line but like you mentioned
- 15:14Speaker 1: Chris Doleman and John Randall, Uh that that that's that's
- 15:17Speaker 1: an elite group of pass rushers in D Lineman they've
- 15:21Speaker 1: had in Minnesota. Yeah, And like I said, it's it's
- 15:25Speaker 1: weird of certain franchises tend to put out great players
- 15:28Speaker 1: in the same position and it becomes almost tradition. It
- 15:31Speaker 1: always becomes, no matter who's in charge of the franchise,
- 15:33Speaker 1: is like, we can't lose this, right, Uh, Minnesota happens
- 15:36Speaker 1: to be putting out you know, D Linemen for days
- 15:39Speaker 1: it seems like um and so to be be a
- 15:41Speaker 1: part of that and and now especially because I look
- 15:44Speaker 1: back on the conversations I had with Jim, you know,
- 15:46Speaker 1: with Marshall and stuff like that, and Alan Page and
- 15:48Speaker 1: Carl Eller over the years and I played there and
- 15:51Speaker 1: just being able to spend time with them, UM. And
- 15:53Speaker 1: then even when I first got you know, notified that
- 15:55Speaker 1: I was getting the ring of Atto and they surprised me.
- 15:57Speaker 1: When I was talking to the team. One of the
- 15:59Speaker 1: first guys I got to see was Carl Eller and
- 16:01Speaker 1: and talk to him about just the meaning of being
- 16:04Speaker 1: in that that the group, UM, and then being so
- 16:06Speaker 1: welcome me to that club. It's it's really been, as
- 16:10Speaker 1: you really been a fun process. And again it's it's
- 16:13Speaker 1: something that you know, it's hard to put into words
- 16:17Speaker 1: at times. It's because you look back like I'm getting
- 16:19Speaker 1: rewarded for something I did so many years ago. But
- 16:21Speaker 1: hopefully it's it's inspiring to others. And it's just a
- 16:25Speaker 1: really cool, cool feeling to join that club of guys
- 16:28Speaker 1: that you know, I looked up to. Pretty cool how
- 16:30Speaker 1: they told you they surprised you too when you were
- 16:32Speaker 1: there over the summer, and such a great history, as
- 16:34Speaker 1: you mentioned, long before they ever kept sacks as an
- 16:37Speaker 1: official stat for the d lineman there in Minnesota. You're
- 16:41Speaker 1: also up Jared for Canton. I believe third year now
- 16:46Speaker 1: you're up a lot of people think the third time
- 16:50Speaker 1: is a charm. Do you allow yourself to go there
- 16:54Speaker 1: mentally about what that troll or that not will be, like,
- 16:58Speaker 1: I try not to. Uh So, my first right, when
- 17:01Speaker 1: I've made in the finals as a first year eligible player, um,
- 17:04Speaker 1: that was it was. That was amazing, right, And so
- 17:07Speaker 1: I didn't really have a whole lot of expectation. I
- 17:09Speaker 1: knew with Peyton and what's in all those guys is
- 17:11Speaker 1: gonna be a tough class. I'll be honest. Last year
- 17:14Speaker 1: I had some expectation. I'm like, well, if I was
- 17:16Speaker 1: a first year finalist, you know, if my chance of
- 17:18Speaker 1: gotta be pretty good to get in my second year,
- 17:20Speaker 1: UM didn't go my way. So you know, nothing you
- 17:23Speaker 1: can say, And it's one of those deals. It's hard.
- 17:25Speaker 1: It's hard to be an upset about it because you're
- 17:28Speaker 1: you're you're celebrating so many great players and you're not
- 17:31Speaker 1: sitting there and saying, well, I've more deserved this guy this,
- 17:33Speaker 1: So I do try to remove myself from it. I
- 17:35Speaker 1: try to leave it up to the voters that let
- 17:37Speaker 1: other people's opinions, you know how the you know be
- 17:40Speaker 1: what they are. Um, wouldn't be one of the greatest
- 17:43Speaker 1: honors of my life, absolutely, Um. Is it going to
- 17:47Speaker 1: change my life in any aspect? You know? Probably not?
- 17:50Speaker 1: So I try to keep it in that perspective, right,
- 17:52Speaker 1: knowing that you know, I played this game for the
- 17:55Speaker 1: respect of my peers, the respect of those who you
- 17:57Speaker 1: know played before me. UM into that again, it just
- 18:00Speaker 1: outright loved in the respect of the fans and so UM,
- 18:03Speaker 1: if they deemed that worthy of the Hall of Fame,
- 18:06Speaker 1: I'll wear that badge with honor. Um. If not, my
- 18:09Speaker 1: kids still love me, and my wife still loves me,
- 18:11Speaker 1: and it is what it is. It's a great way
- 18:13Speaker 1: to look at it and also wear that hair with honor.
- 18:15Speaker 1: I think we talked about a couple of years ago.
- 18:17Speaker 1: You would be correct me if I'm wrong, the first
- 18:21Speaker 1: Hall of Fame bust with a mullet, wouldn't you. I
- 18:25Speaker 1: don't know that that. I would hope not. I mean,
- 18:27Speaker 1: come on, thinking about all the greats from back in
- 18:29Speaker 1: the day, But maybe I don't know that's something we
- 18:33Speaker 1: need to look into, and it would definitely be with one.
- 18:35Speaker 1: I get the flow is nice right now. And now
- 18:37Speaker 1: with the you know, the World Championships and mullets taken on,
- 18:41Speaker 1: you know, I mean the mollet is back. It is
- 18:44Speaker 1: back in full effect, whatever you want to call it, mullet,
- 18:46Speaker 1: hockey cut, it is just it is back and people
- 18:50Speaker 1: are loving it. And I think people just finally realize
- 18:52Speaker 1: it's it's a lifestyle. You to embrace it and nothing
- 18:56Speaker 1: but good comes from it. I love it. It's great attitude.
- 18:59Speaker 1: One last thing before I let you go. Now you
- 19:00Speaker 1: watch football? Now, you don't spend your entire life watching football. However, Um,
- 19:05Speaker 1: how do you sack a quarterback these days? Like, I mean,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you have like the lasso thing to celebrate. Would you
- 19:11Speaker 1: need like a lasso to safely sack the quarterback? You
- 19:16Speaker 1: need a pillow? And I feel like, you know you
- 19:18Speaker 1: need to You need to get to them, stop asking
- 19:21Speaker 1: politely to lay down so you can touch them. Um
- 19:25Speaker 1: it's I actually told my wife was the other day.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I go, I think half my sacks would probably be
- 19:28Speaker 1: taken away from rough of the pastors, uh total these
- 19:31Speaker 1: these days. So I don't know. They gotta find a
- 19:35Speaker 1: balance of it. Listen, I'm I'm all for keeping guys healthy,
- 19:39Speaker 1: but I'm also on the uh on the way of
- 19:42Speaker 1: you know thinking that. Listen, the quarterbacks signed those contracts
- 19:45Speaker 1: just like the rest of us. You know that you
- 19:47Speaker 1: play a violent sport. You know it's a contact sport,
- 19:49Speaker 1: and they're actually getting paid a lot more money than
- 19:51Speaker 1: most people, so they should be putting their bodies on
- 19:53Speaker 1: the line more often than not. So you know, I
- 19:57Speaker 1: feel like it's part of the game. They need to
- 19:58Speaker 1: they need to chill out, because you actually start diminishing
- 20:01Speaker 1: the game, you start taking away from the strategy that
- 20:03Speaker 1: defensive has, you know, to get to like looking in
- 20:06Speaker 1: the Chief's game and you know they got a p
- 20:09Speaker 1: I or I mean roughly the pastor call dude hit
- 20:12Speaker 1: my homes. I think it was in the in the chest.
- 20:14Speaker 1: You know, his head was up and he took him.
- 20:16Speaker 1: But they said he just you know within the one
- 20:18Speaker 1: step or two late or something. We used to have
- 20:20Speaker 1: one two steps. And you look at the you look
- 20:23Speaker 1: at the the game, the the the Green Bay Washington game,
- 20:28Speaker 1: and you see that on the last throw the d
- 20:30Speaker 1: Lineman crimes just kind of tries to chicken wing him.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Imagine if you barries you know, ininky on that play,
- 20:36Speaker 1: maybe that throw doesn't get you know, all the way
- 20:38Speaker 1: to where it needs to be. So you know, you
- 20:39Speaker 1: start taking you know, ways where we used to be
- 20:41Speaker 1: able to hit the quarterback and get them gunshot. I
- 20:43Speaker 1: get the movement out of the pocket, you know, strategically
- 20:45Speaker 1: flashing in front of them. Uh. You know, guys aren't
- 20:48Speaker 1: trying to get their hands and quarterbacks faces if you're
- 20:50Speaker 1: not getting the ball anymore, so afraid to hit the
- 20:51Speaker 1: quarterback and the and the face masks. So I think
- 20:54Speaker 1: at some point they gotta find a balance. Um, listen,
- 20:57Speaker 1: I'm I'm all for flagging a guy if he takes
- 20:59Speaker 1: ten steps and wax and you know, dude in the head,
- 21:01Speaker 1: you know, for no reason. But I mean, at some point,
- 21:04Speaker 1: you know, Chris Jones playing, he takes the ball out fumble,
- 21:07Speaker 1: We're covering such a great play and that's null and void. Uh,
- 21:11Speaker 1: you know, from a few weeks ago. So I just
- 21:12Speaker 1: feel like it's diminishing the game, and it's and it's
- 21:14Speaker 1: so strongly tilted to the offense that they got to
- 21:17Speaker 1: find a balance. And the league says not making it softer,
- 21:19Speaker 1: making it safer here, but certainly, um your point well taken. Safety.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Safety always seems to fill, you know, fall with the
- 21:27Speaker 1: high profile quarterbacks. First, if they took away half he
- 21:30Speaker 1: had a hundred and thirty six, you'd still have a
- 21:32Speaker 1: lot of sacks, and we'd still be having this conversation
- 21:34Speaker 1: and you still be honored by the Vikings. Coming up
- 21:36Speaker 1: on Sunday, Jared Al, congratulations on that. Hope to talk
- 21:39Speaker 1: to you again soon. Maybe maybe next summer in Ohio. Oh,
- 21:43Speaker 1: that would not be awesome. Thanks Jared for having me
- 21:46Speaker 1: coming up next. Where are the Packers and where are
- 21:50Speaker 1: the Bucks in the nude power rankings? They don't have
- 21:55Speaker 1: the power. We'll tell you that. Dan hand Zeus is
- 21:57Speaker 1: wearing a tie for some reason. He's coming up. Just
- 22:00Speaker 1: takes gonna futun fun and fun and some funch bars
- 22:12Speaker 1: to just take a fall to be wow. Power rankings
- 22:40Speaker 1: get like a club remix there. Dan han Zus does
- 22:43Speaker 1: him there on NFL dot Com every Tuesday. We have
- 22:46Speaker 1: no change at the top. The Bills, the Eagles, and
- 22:50Speaker 1: the Chiefs. All right, Bills, Eagle, Chiefs. Even though Kansas
- 22:54Speaker 1: City had a huge, resounding win, on the road in
- 22:56Speaker 1: San Francisco. But look at those Dallas Cowboys. They beat
- 23:01Speaker 1: the Lions. Dan and Zeus, who's here with us every
- 23:04Speaker 1: Tuesday to explain said power rankings, not the power standings.
- 23:07Speaker 1: The power rankings. You beat the Lions. You barely beat
- 23:10Speaker 1: the Lions. Scored not indicative of how close that game is.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And they're the fourth team in football. Yes, and thank
- 23:16Speaker 1: you for using my first dance wedding song, the intro music.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I believe you got that tied. That's a hold over
- 23:21Speaker 1: from very nice. Yeah, the Cowboys. I'm very thankful to
- 23:25Speaker 1: Dallas because last week broke the power rankings. It was
- 23:29Speaker 1: just so so the power things were broken. Week seven
- 23:32Speaker 1: was putting things back together, restoring some logic to our league,
- 23:36Speaker 1: and the Cowboys winning. I don't care how they won.
- 23:39Speaker 1: The Cowboys winning with another great showing by their defense
- 23:43Speaker 1: getting twenty one points off turnovers, seeing Dak back on
- 23:47Speaker 1: the field and making throws even though he was rusty.
- 23:50Speaker 1: I feel good now about the top four. I feel
- 23:53Speaker 1: very comfortable with saying Dallas and the balance that they
- 23:56Speaker 1: have that that is a top four team. I didn't
- 23:59Speaker 1: have a number four team last week. I did, but
- 24:01Speaker 1: I didn't and now I do. Okay, so that makes sense.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Doesn't make sense? They are number four, and I think
- 24:07Speaker 1: some people think you could take the other twenty eight
- 24:08Speaker 1: and just throw them up in the air. That that
- 24:10Speaker 1: isn't the case because that do power rankings maybe, but
- 24:14Speaker 1: not of course you you have a scientific method. The
- 24:17Speaker 1: Giants have only one loss. The Vikings, who were off,
- 24:20Speaker 1: fell down three spots. Despite being off, they have only
- 24:24Speaker 1: one loss, yet the Bengals with three losses are ahead
- 24:27Speaker 1: of them both. Yeah, Cincinnati has been kind of a
- 24:30Speaker 1: pet team for me this season that even during their struggles,
- 24:34Speaker 1: I just felt in a very unsettled landscape where the
- 24:37Speaker 1: middle class of the NFL is so vast right now,
- 24:39Speaker 1: that they were a team to keep hanging around the
- 24:42Speaker 1: top ten, the top twelve, the top thirteen, And here
- 24:45Speaker 1: they are now. They're figuring things out on offense, and
- 24:48Speaker 1: it took time. Zach Taylor said it after the game,
- 24:50Speaker 1: you know, be patient with us. We showed you we'd
- 24:52Speaker 1: figure it out. And with that passing attack led by
- 24:55Speaker 1: Joe Burrow being unconscious and Jamaar Chase back to all
- 24:58Speaker 1: world mode, there's very few teams that could stop them.
- 25:01Speaker 1: When they're at their top gear. You really don't like
- 25:03Speaker 1: the Vikings to you. I the Vikings enough their number seven.
- 25:08Speaker 1: They were off, and I feel like this is a
- 25:10Speaker 1: football conversation. Yes, they were off, and yet they were
- 25:13Speaker 1: hurting the polls they dropped. They were, but only if
- 25:16Speaker 1: you don't factor in what we were talking about earlier
- 25:18Speaker 1: that they were number four last week. But the power
- 25:21Speaker 1: ranks were broken. There was no number four team that
- 25:23Speaker 1: just I had to put one in there for Ali
- 25:26Speaker 1: been Purry and the and the editorial teams. There would
- 25:28Speaker 1: be something on NFL dot com. But we needed a
- 25:31Speaker 1: team to step up and fill the void. The Cowboys
- 25:33Speaker 1: did it. The Vikings are a good team. Are they
- 25:36Speaker 1: a top four team in the in the NFL? Tell me,
- 25:38Speaker 1: do you do you think that? Is that a possible cell? No,
- 25:41Speaker 1: they're more like a seven eight nine. I put them
- 25:45Speaker 1: at seven. Feel good about it. Nice start for them,
- 25:47Speaker 1: but not dominant. When they beat the Cardinals this week, Well,
- 25:50Speaker 1: we'll see where the Vikings are next week. Let's see
- 25:53Speaker 1: where the Bucks and the Packers are this week. Because
- 25:56Speaker 1: they have old quarterbacks, obviously, they have offenses that are flailing.
- 26:01Speaker 1: The Bucks are down nine to eighteen. They could still
- 26:05Speaker 1: and probably will still win the division. The Packers are
- 26:07Speaker 1: down four tonine. You have them both below the imaginary
- 26:12Speaker 1: cut line and out basically the postseason. That's how you
- 26:15Speaker 1: view Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, and I think
- 26:18Speaker 1: that's there's an unsettling nature. They're destabilizing force, both in
- 26:22Speaker 1: the power rankings and in the league. Because you're so
- 26:25Speaker 1: they should be one of those teams should be number four,
- 26:27Speaker 1: well like the teams should be number five. And it's
- 26:29Speaker 1: just if the Bucks blow out the Ravens on Thursday, right,
- 26:31Speaker 1: potentially they're moving up. Welcome back to the top ten.
- 26:34Speaker 1: That's a big win. But how long, Andrew, have we
- 26:37Speaker 1: been waiting for one of these teams to step up
- 26:39Speaker 1: in the In this month? It's been a week game
- 26:42Speaker 1: after week game, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
- 26:45Speaker 1: With the Bucks, it's not just Brady anymore. The defense
- 26:47Speaker 1: has come down to earth as well, so they don't
- 26:49Speaker 1: really have much of an identity. And the Packers, I
- 26:52Speaker 1: don't know if listen, Matt Lafloor is a very good
- 26:56Speaker 1: head coach. He's had incredible success, but I can't make
- 26:59Speaker 1: sense of their game plan where they can't get the
- 27:01Speaker 1: passing game going, and yet they won't turn to a
- 27:03Speaker 1: very good running game with two elite running backs. When
- 27:06Speaker 1: does that happen? When does the offense shift? Until I
- 27:09Speaker 1: see these offenses pick it up, They're just gonna be
- 27:12Speaker 1: middling teams, which is what they are in the Power
- 27:14Speaker 1: and both of them are in primetime. This week. You
- 27:16Speaker 1: have the Bucks has mentioned t n F opening up
- 27:18Speaker 1: week number eight against the Ravens. That game is in Tampa.
- 27:22Speaker 1: And then you have Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay
- 27:24Speaker 1: Packers as double digit dogs. And the first thing you
- 27:28Speaker 1: need to know, Buffalo about the number four spot and
- 27:30Speaker 1: the power ranks. Last week there is no number four,
- 27:34Speaker 1: but that was last week. Now we have some order restored.
- 27:37Speaker 1: You just gotta follow me on this, like fight Club.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I think it was the matrix. No, the first rule
- 27:43Speaker 1: about you're saying, the first rule about number four is
- 27:45Speaker 1: there is no number four. That's fine, and I created confusion,
- 27:48Speaker 1: but I stand by what I said. Am I missing
- 27:49Speaker 1: a matrix traffics? Okay? I don't know. Latest, Gentleman's time
- 27:53Speaker 1: for one more thing before we go with Jeff Shindy
- 27:56Speaker 1: are going first? Yeah, Andrew A lot of buzz about
- 27:59Speaker 1: Denver wide receiver Jerry Judy getting traded before the deadline.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I personally hope it happens. He's had a rough start
- 28:05Speaker 1: to his career. Three years in the NFL, three bad offenses.
- 28:08Speaker 1: He's a great talent. I love him to see him
- 28:10Speaker 1: go someplace else and make some noise. Fright deadline one
- 28:13Speaker 1: week from today, Gara Folo, what's so funny? Well, did
- 28:17Speaker 1: you do the Bailey's Appy Stacy's mom thing. That's something
- 28:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna do that. Yeah, I'm gonna do that in
- 28:22Speaker 1: a minute. All right, go see Brears tweet. In the meantime,
- 28:24Speaker 1: I'll talk about Chris Connley, the veteran wide receiver who
- 28:28Speaker 1: was signed with the Titans off of the Chiefs practice squad.
- 28:31Speaker 1: He was with the Texans to start the season, so
- 28:33Speaker 1: we're not even halfway through the season. He's been with
- 28:35Speaker 1: three a FC teams. Let's see if he sticks in Tennessee.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Good work if you can get it, White, all right?
- 28:40Speaker 1: Thought joinning back for Darrell Patterson. Went on I R
- 28:43Speaker 1: with a minor ne procedure October three. He's getting close
- 28:46Speaker 1: to coming back here. He is pulling the weight his sled.
- 28:49Speaker 1: But watch it again, he's doing it barefooted. It looks
- 28:53Speaker 1: like se flash Pe ready to come back with a vengeance.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Careful there, watch the toes. Kids don't lift weights without shoes.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Generally speaking, it is a bad thing. As for the
- 29:04Speaker 1: Bailey's Appy, did you guys catch this? He's sitting on
- 29:06Speaker 1: the bench after throwing a touchdown pass last night. And
- 29:09Speaker 1: and in Foxbor they're playing the Fountains of Wayne song
- 29:13Speaker 1: Stacy's Mom. He's mouthing the lyrics or Stacy's mom got
- 29:19Speaker 1: it going on? Come on, No, I don't know no
- 29:22Speaker 1: copy writer, no copy writer, prisban on this show. So
- 29:25Speaker 1: that song when when it came out Bailey's Appley was
- 29:28Speaker 1: like four. He just confirmed on the radio what Mike
- 29:31Speaker 1: was referring to that Yes, that's what he was singing.
- 29:35Speaker 1: And quote, I don't even know how I know that
- 29:38Speaker 1: song if I played over and over subs. Here's my question.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Has he ever seen the video? It's gonna We're really
- 29:50Speaker 1: now here? Who's your daughter in the room, Mike? Get
