- 0:21Speaker 1: Jessica Smettana is with us.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Her fiance Lee is a Knicks fan, so by extension,
- 0:26Speaker 2: jess is a Knicks fan. Has it been being a
- 0:31Speaker 2: girlfriend of a Knicks fan the past seven years?
- 0:33Speaker 3: Jess pretty bleak stew Gods. I was looking at the
- 0:36Speaker 3: Knicks roster in like twenty nineteen when we started dating,
- 0:40Speaker 3: actually before we even started dating. I don't think I've
- 0:43Speaker 3: told anyone this story, but Leem and I both worked
- 0:46Speaker 3: at Sports Illustrated. That's where we met. And it was
- 0:49Speaker 3: the night of the two thousand and nineteen NBA Draft lottery,
- 0:55Speaker 3: right and the Knicks had a shot at Zion Williamson.
- 0:58Speaker 3: So Lee may Lee made dinner and we met back
- 1:02Speaker 3: at the office at like seven o'clock at night with
- 1:05Speaker 3: him and our other friend, Dave, who's a huge Knicks fan,
- 1:08Speaker 3: and we watched them pull the ping pong balls to
- 1:10Speaker 3: see where the Knicks would land, and when the Pelicans
- 1:15Speaker 3: got the first ping pong ball or whatever whichever order
- 1:17Speaker 3: it came in, Lee and his friend Dave just both
- 1:21Speaker 3: sank to the ground and I just stood there and
- 1:23Speaker 3: laughed at them. And they were so sad. They wanted
- 1:25Speaker 3: Zion so bad, and they were so upset, and then
- 1:29Speaker 3: I was seeing a video of them, of course making
- 1:31Speaker 3: fun of them, and at the end of the video
- 1:33Speaker 3: you just hear Lee go, well, I guess that means
- 1:35Speaker 3: we'll get RJ. Barrett like he was like, so that
- 1:39Speaker 3: boy did? Wait? Yeah, and yeah that was That was
- 1:43Speaker 3: where this all began.
- 1:45Speaker 4: As part of that experience being able to see somebody
- 1:48Speaker 4: at their lowest moment and being like, you know what,
- 1:51Speaker 4: I love you now. I'm gonna love you through no
- 1:53Speaker 4: matter what. If I watch you collapse to the ground
- 1:57Speaker 4: off an NBA lottery, there's really nothing we can't get
- 2:00Speaker 4: through it.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Yeah, that's definitely true. I mean we've had a few
- 2:02Speaker 3: of those moments in our relationship, Taylor. I'll save it
- 2:06Speaker 3: for the wedding vows, but certainly the Knicks among the
- 2:09Speaker 3: lowest I've ever seen him, and I think that goes
- 2:12Speaker 3: for Knicks fans watching the Knicks also, it's like, we've
- 2:15Speaker 3: seen you at your worst, your absolute worst. We've seen
- 2:19Speaker 3: some bad basketball and we've stuck through it, and we've
- 2:21Speaker 3: gone to games at MSG. Some of them have been
- 2:24Speaker 3: huge stinkers. I'd say most of them have been huge stinkers.
- 2:27Speaker 3: And there's always that glimmer of hope that like this,
- 2:29Speaker 3: this Kevin Knox selection, this one's gonna be the one
- 2:32Speaker 3: that changes the franchise or Frankmi Lacken or whoever it is. Yeah,
- 2:36Speaker 3: and it turns out after all of this, I mean,
- 2:38Speaker 3: for me, it's only been seven years, but the last
- 2:40Speaker 3: few years it's like bad. They're actually building something. You
- 2:44Speaker 3: could tell it was different, and I'm still just shocked
- 2:47Speaker 3: that they were able to pull it off as good
- 2:49Speaker 3: as they've been the last two years. Like I personally
- 2:52Speaker 3: felt a sense of disbelief on Saturday watching Game five.
- 2:57Speaker 1: I would say that's grounds for a breakup.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I mean, if he alls to the floor emotionally because
- 3:01Speaker 2: they didn't get Zion Williamson, I'm surprised you're still with them, Taylor.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Don't pretend like you didn't also fall to the floor
- 3:08Speaker 3: after the Nicks missed out on another top lottery pick.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I think I called that the second worst night of
- 3:15Speaker 4: my life. The first worst night of my life was
- 3:18Speaker 4: the night Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving chose the Brooklyn Nets.
- 3:22Speaker 4: Jess I tweeted that that day, when Katie and Kyrie
- 3:26Speaker 4: went to Brooklyn, the Knicks will never recover from that.
- 3:32Speaker 1: How wrong you were.
- 3:33Speaker 3: That's so good man. I forgot about the nets like
- 3:37Speaker 3: the last like three months, I've forgot they existed.
- 3:41Speaker 2: Yes, same for us. We listen. Our season never goes
- 3:45Speaker 2: this far. It never goes this close to football. I mean,
- 3:48Speaker 2: I don't know what to do with myself.
- 3:50Speaker 3: I know it's crazy to you guys. I couldn't agree
- 3:52Speaker 3: with you more. But it's not over yet, because we
- 3:54Speaker 3: still got the parade on Thursday. Yeah, that will be
- 3:57Speaker 3: the real celebration.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So you attending the well, let's let's let's start here.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Is Lee attending the parade? Does he want to go
- 4:03Speaker 2: to the parade?
- 4:04Speaker 3: We all want to go to the parade. We're a
- 4:06Speaker 3: little Did.
- 4:07Speaker 1: You live on the parade route?
- 4:09Speaker 3: I believe yes, we're pretty close. We want to go.
- 4:12Speaker 3: We are not sure what time we'll have to wake
- 4:15Speaker 3: up to get a spot along the parade route.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:19Speaker 3: If it's before six am, it's probably not gonna happen
- 4:23Speaker 3: for me. But I fully support if Lee wants to
- 4:26Speaker 3: go get a spot at six At five am, I
- 4:28Speaker 3: will walk the dog. I will make sure everything at
- 4:31Speaker 3: home is okay. Maybe I'll try to meet him after,
- 4:33Speaker 3: but personally for me not getting up before six am.
- 4:38Speaker 4: If Lee needs somebody to go at five am, Jess,
- 4:41Speaker 4: you know I will go with Lee.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Stu Me and Lee's very nice of you.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Yes, me and me and Lee's next experience was, Hey,
- 4:49Speaker 4: we're gonna watch game three together at a bar. We
- 4:52Speaker 4: watch Game three together. The Knicks lose. After the game,
- 4:55Speaker 4: we look at each other and go, well, it's been
- 4:57Speaker 4: nice seeing you this series. We don't want to jinx
- 4:59Speaker 4: the team anymore.
- 5:00Speaker 1: I love you.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Lee. Let's let's find somewhere else to watch the game separately.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Yes. And it worked.
- 5:06Speaker 2: It worked right, Yeah, you were zero to one watching
- 5:09Speaker 2: a game together.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 5:10Speaker 3: And Lee told me afterwards he was like Taylor just
- 5:14Speaker 3: kind of like turned into a pumpkin at halftime, Like
- 5:16Speaker 3: he didn't talk for two hours, like the second half
- 5:19Speaker 3: of the game. He was just frozen.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Yes. And I was like, he didn't have a mic
- 5:22Speaker 1: in front of his face.
- 5:23Speaker 3: I mean, I was like, I honestly I could see
- 5:26Speaker 3: him being too nervous to speak because he was so
- 5:30Speaker 3: scared that the Knicks were going to blow the game,
- 5:32Speaker 3: which they did.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yes, you'll laugh at this.
- 5:34Speaker 2: A Game four, at halftime, we got what felt like
- 5:36Speaker 2: an angry group text saying tomorrow morning.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Nine am, and that's all it said. It was definitely
- 5:41Speaker 1: some Matt like he had thought we had lost that game.
- 5:43Speaker 2: We're down by twenty nine. It was attitude. He was depressed.
- 5:47Speaker 2: It's the lowest I've ever seen him based on a text.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It doesn't say much the text, but Mikey felt that
- 5:52Speaker 2: you could feel the anger coming through that text, right,
- 5:54Speaker 2: Mike It.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Fuck you was written in the text. It just said
- 6:00Speaker 1: tomorrow morning, nine of you and fuck you.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Right anyway, So Taylor did his part. You know, it's
- 6:08Speaker 2: odd because people are congratulating me. Just just did it
- 6:11Speaker 2: before we started here. Hey, congratulations winning a title. I
- 6:15Speaker 2: didn't win anything. I mean, I didn't do anything, And
- 6:17Speaker 2: so I don't know how to respond to these things.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I feel like what Taylor is congratulated, He's like, thank you.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It takes full credit. Why are you congratulating me? And
- 6:26Speaker 2: what did you do to help the Knicks win an
- 6:28Speaker 2: NBA championship?
- 6:29Speaker 3: Jazz, you know what Stegot's us us fans us Nick fans.
- 6:32Speaker 3: We did everything we could because this series, especially the finals,
- 6:38Speaker 3: like Taylor said, anything you were doing for Game three,
- 6:41Speaker 3: don't do it for Game four, and I would even say,
- 6:44Speaker 3: whatever I was doing in the first half of Game four,
- 6:46Speaker 3: I stopped doing it in the second half of Game
- 6:48Speaker 3: four because I wanted the Knicks to turn around. Even
- 6:51Speaker 3: those twenty nine points whatever it was at halftime, I mean,
- 6:54Speaker 3: it was seemed like an insurmountable lead. I wanted to
- 6:57Speaker 3: sort of do like a reverse Jink situation. I even
- 7:00Speaker 3: made plans Stutts to go hang out with my friend
- 7:04Speaker 3: out east this weekend because I thought, you know, if
- 7:07Speaker 3: Game five is not a close out game, I'm gonna
- 7:09Speaker 3: go out of town for the weekend, like like many
- 7:11Speaker 3: New Yorkers do in the summertime, because it's you know,
- 7:14Speaker 3: ninety five degrees in the city. And I knew as
- 7:16Speaker 3: soon as I made those plans, game five was going
- 7:19Speaker 3: to become a close out game, and it did, so
- 7:20Speaker 3: I ended up staying in the city this weekend, and
- 7:22Speaker 3: that was that was because of me trying to reverse
- 7:25Speaker 3: Jinks the Knicks into having a comeback.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Well, congratulations to you for winning an NBA championship.
- 7:31Speaker 3: I mean, I would also add that the last thirty
- 7:35Speaker 3: six hours, I have liked every single video that I've
- 7:40Speaker 3: seen of like these talk shows that I don't watch,
- 7:43Speaker 3: like Good Morning America, like Jimmy Fail, whatever it is.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I'm just like, I'm going through my phone, Michael Bridges,
- 7:49Speaker 3: Instagram Live, and I'm liking everything. There's not been a
- 7:53Speaker 3: single piece of Knick's content that I have not immediately
- 7:57Speaker 3: liked because it's just made me smiles.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Which one has made you smile the most, like laugh
- 8:02Speaker 2: the most? It has to be Michal Bridges, right.
- 8:05Speaker 3: That was when he was singing to his dog. That
- 8:06Speaker 3: was probably the most relatable thing that I've seen. But yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 3: I think the five of them on I think it
- 8:16Speaker 3: was Good Morning America and they get asked a question
- 8:20Speaker 3: and no one responds. That was very funny because they're
- 8:24Speaker 3: all so hungover, like But I would say the other
- 8:27Speaker 3: thing that has been really funny ste Guts is I've
- 8:31Speaker 3: listened to so much of Jalen Brunt's podcast over the
- 8:34Speaker 3: last like two years, however long it's been, and this
- 8:37Speaker 3: man is so stoic and monotone and emotionless and as
- 8:44Speaker 3: soon as they want on Saturday, all of a sudden,
- 8:46Speaker 3: I'm hearing him speak with this tone of voice that
- 8:49Speaker 3: I didn't know he I didn't know he could do
- 8:51Speaker 3: that like he's saying things and I'm like, he's smiling,
- 8:53Speaker 3: he's happy. It's been absolutely jarring to see. So every
- 8:57Speaker 3: clip that I've seen of Jalen Brunson smiling looking happy,
- 9:01Speaker 3: I've been like, I support this, I endorse this. So
- 9:04Speaker 3: this is you can do that more often, you know.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Because until they won, you thought he was incapable of emotion, right.
- 9:10Speaker 3: I mean, he's just the most stoic, to an extreme
- 9:14Speaker 3: I would say, to an extreme word. In press conferences
- 9:17Speaker 3: sometimes I'm like, oh my god, like this is the
- 9:22Speaker 3: driest thing I've ever heard in MyD No.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Abby yells at him.
- 9:25Speaker 2: She found herself yelling at him, like say something for right, right, And.
- 9:30Speaker 3: He finally man when he had the towel over his
- 9:32Speaker 3: head after they won and Josh Hart went up to
- 9:35Speaker 3: them studds goosebumps.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Ye would you make of that? Source sport Wemby, huh.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Oh, Wemby. Here's the thing. I don't hate Wemby as
- 9:44Speaker 3: much to him most people do. At the moment, I
- 9:48Speaker 3: would have been if if the Western Conference Finals were
- 9:51Speaker 3: the NBA Finals, I would have still been rooting for
- 9:53Speaker 3: the Spurs, like I did not want to see the
- 9:55Speaker 3: Thunder winning championship. So if there were any other team
- 9:58Speaker 3: but the Knicks, I think I would have for the
- 10:00Speaker 3: Spurs in the finals. But I think Wenby's going to
- 10:03Speaker 3: have his time. It's just not not yet that that
- 10:05Speaker 3: team was not ready to win a championship. You could
- 10:08Speaker 3: tell that they were not as resilient as the Knicks
- 10:11Speaker 3: over the last five games.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Jess has experienced New Yorkers, and you, as someone who's
- 10:16Speaker 2: been to multiple championship parades because you root for every
- 10:19Speaker 2: single team, I don't think Taylor is aware of what
- 10:22Speaker 2: he's getting himself into. So, Mikey, I'm thinking there might
- 10:26Speaker 2: be a situation Taylor needs to get into the city
- 10:28Speaker 2: on Wednesday night, you don't want to wake up Thursday morning,
- 10:31Speaker 2: and you get yourself to the parade, and I'm thinking
- 10:33Speaker 2: perhaps a sleepover with Lee, Jess and Taylor.
- 10:37Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 10:37Speaker 3: I mean, Taylor, we do have a fold out couch.
- 10:40Speaker 3: You're welcome to it.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Willow, that's where you're going to sleep. Taylor's gonna say, oh,
- 10:46Speaker 1: I thought I thought Lee and Taylor would share the
- 10:48Speaker 1: best Honestly.
- 10:49Speaker 3: That might happen. Willow has a really nice memory foam
- 10:54Speaker 3: bed too, so if you want to sleep there and
- 10:56Speaker 3: she can sleep on the foldout, that would also work
- 10:59Speaker 3: for us.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Now, the real KYJSS is finding someone who has an
- 11:02Speaker 2: office that oversees that has a balcony that oversees the
- 11:05Speaker 2: parade and you just hang out in the office.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Right Stecott's my father in law to be. The minutes
- 11:12Speaker 3: after the game ended, was like, can someone look up
- 11:15Speaker 3: real estate listings along the parade route so we can
- 11:19Speaker 3: go and rent out empty office space and throw ticker
- 11:22Speaker 3: tape out the wind. I'm like, what on Earth? All
- 11:25Speaker 3: morning today he's been texting about, like where can we go?
- 11:28Speaker 3: Is there a rooftop bar on Broad I'm like, there's
- 11:30Speaker 3: no chance we're going to be able to get in
- 11:32Speaker 3: one of these buildings. But I will say I have
- 11:35Speaker 3: been to a ticker tape parade in New York City
- 11:37Speaker 3: before the last one that I don't know if it
- 11:40Speaker 3: was the last one, because I think the Liberty may
- 11:42Speaker 3: have had one. But the twenty nineteen World Cup Women's
- 11:45Speaker 3: World Cup team that won the World Cup had a
- 11:47Speaker 3: ticker tape parade and I was working at Sports Illustrated
- 11:49Speaker 3: at the time, so it was like three blocks away.
- 11:51Speaker 3: So we just walked down to Broadway. It was awesome
- 11:53Speaker 3: and huge, huge crowd. Probably nothing close to what the
- 11:56Speaker 3: crowd is going to be like Thursday, but huge crowd.
- 11:59Speaker 3: It was also, I want to say, June or July.
- 12:02Speaker 3: The ticker tape was flying out of the Woolworth Building.
- 12:04Speaker 3: There was you know, streamers everywhere and confetti everywhere. It
- 12:07Speaker 3: was so much fun and it was just such an
- 12:10Speaker 3: awesome environment. But I would say whatever is gonna happen
- 12:14Speaker 3: Thursday is gonna be much closer to the crazy twenty
- 12:17Speaker 3: sixteen Cubs World Series frenzy where there were like a
- 12:21Speaker 3: million people crammed into downtown Chicago, but a much shorter
- 12:25Speaker 3: parade route because it's only going from Battery Park to
- 12:27Speaker 3: City Hall, which is not far.
- 12:29Speaker 2: It's gonna feel like when the Rangers won the Stanley
- 12:31Speaker 2: Cup with Mark Messier. It's gonna have that kind of feel, Taylor.
- 12:34Speaker 2: I'm telling you, if your plans to go in there
- 12:36Speaker 2: on Thursday, man, you're gonna have a tough time getting there.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Like I don't know if you've thought this through. I
- 12:40Speaker 2: mean I haven't.
- 12:44Speaker 1: We're trying to help you, man. You need to get
- 12:47Speaker 1: into Manhattan on Wednesday night. You should go there now.
- 12:49Speaker 3: Yeah, you should leave now. You can get here by
- 12:53Speaker 3: Tuesday night if you leave now.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yes. How was Championship Night?
- 12:56Speaker 4: Like?
- 12:57Speaker 1: Put us there? What was Lee doing? What happened?
- 12:58Speaker 3: It was crazy? Like Lee was not okay. I would say,
- 13:02Speaker 3: like probably the most worried I've been about him as
- 13:06Speaker 3: a fiance or a girlfriend. Yeah, including like multiple you know,
- 13:10Speaker 3: natural disasters and pandemic Like it was a scary. He
- 13:15Speaker 3: basically turned into like a seven year old boy at
- 13:18Speaker 3: one point, Like I saw the years melt off of
- 13:20Speaker 3: him and he just became childlike and was sort of
- 13:23Speaker 3: like rocking back and forth on the floor, and like
- 13:26Speaker 3: I said, he didn't talk for like an hour, and
- 13:29Speaker 3: he wanted he wanted to watch the game at home
- 13:31Speaker 3: because he watched the first two games and Game four
- 13:33Speaker 3: at home, so he didn't want to like go out
- 13:34Speaker 3: to a bar.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Like with Taylor and blow you guys, tell you yeah.
- 13:38Speaker 3: But as soon as the game ended, you guys, I
- 13:40Speaker 3: mean you could hear the screams outside and then people
- 13:44Speaker 3: started blowing off fireworks and we could just hear just
- 13:48Speaker 3: thousands of people out throughout the entire city screaming. So
- 13:53Speaker 3: we went out for a drink afterwards, and our neighborhood
- 13:57Speaker 3: was completely swarmed. It was nuts. We found a bar,
- 14:00Speaker 3: one of our favorite bars. The owner was in such
- 14:03Speaker 3: a great moody, you know, got us drinks and then
- 14:05Speaker 3: Lee's parents came and Lee hugged his dad and they cried.
- 14:08Speaker 3: It was very cute and it was very very special.
- 14:12Speaker 3: We took a picture together. I saw the largest rat
- 14:16Speaker 3: that I have seen in my life while we were
- 14:20Speaker 3: taking this picture, and it, truly it didn't FaZe me
- 14:22Speaker 3: because I was like, I love New York so much.
- 14:24Speaker 3: This rat the size of a possum, could do whatever
- 14:26Speaker 3: it wants to me right now, and there's nothing I
- 14:28Speaker 3: would do about it. It was it was magical.
- 14:30Speaker 4: What was pat Riley doing there?
- 14:36Speaker 1: I was. I was going through the role I was
- 14:40Speaker 1: debating between Riley Wenby.
- 14:44Speaker 3: This rat was Wemby sides. This was the Victor women
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yama of rats. It was like, honestly, I think if
- 14:50Speaker 3: my dog was face to face with this rat in
- 14:52Speaker 3: the street, my dog, who is like fifty pounds, would
- 14:55Speaker 3: run the other direction.
- 14:56Speaker 1: Yes, but pat the rat, he chose wisely.
- 15:09Speaker 4: Jess on the topic of Lee acting like a seven
- 15:11Speaker 4: year old, what did you think of Timothy Schallomey in
- 15:14Speaker 4: the in the locker room after the game, because he
- 15:16Speaker 4: also looked like a seven year old that was getting
- 15:19Speaker 4: the chance to meet all his favorite players for the
- 15:21Speaker 4: first time.
- 15:22Speaker 1: He went back on the plane with them.
- 15:23Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, I've said this before, but like Chalomey
- 15:27Speaker 3: and Lee are so similar in a lot of their
- 15:32Speaker 3: you know, like they they both grew up in like
- 15:34Speaker 3: a similar place. They both were like child actors, Like
- 15:38Speaker 3: they're both huge Nick fans. Like they they remind me
- 15:41Speaker 3: of each other. So when I saw Tommy in the
- 15:43Speaker 3: locker room, I said, in a in a parallel universe,
- 15:46Speaker 3: this was Lee and this is his childhood dream, and
- 15:48Speaker 3: I love that for him. And look us Timmy fans,
- 15:51Speaker 3: we've been down bad this past year, Taylor, Like, it's
- 15:53Speaker 3: not been good for us, and things were finally looking
- 15:57Speaker 3: up over the last month with this Knicks run and
- 15:59Speaker 3: like people starting to like Timmy again. Then he goes
- 16:01Speaker 3: and does like a calci ad and everyone's pissed at
- 16:03Speaker 3: him again. So I got mixed feelings on Timmy right now,
- 16:07Speaker 3: but I was happy to see him there. I mean,
- 16:09Speaker 3: he's a true fan, you know, It's like he's not
- 16:11Speaker 3: one of those like posers who's like, oh, like I'm
- 16:14Speaker 3: you know, I sit court side at MSG. I'm I'm
- 16:16Speaker 3: a big shot celebrity. Like, no, he's him, Mariska, Tracy Morgan,
- 16:20Speaker 3: Ben Stiller. I mean, they're they are in the trenches
- 16:23Speaker 3: with the knicks even when they're not good.
- 16:26Speaker 1: But what is KRK Carpentry doing?
- 16:28Speaker 3: I mean, that's a great question. I love this one
- 16:30Speaker 3: photoshopped his dog in that.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I believe it. I thought you fell for it.
- 16:36Speaker 3: For that's amazing. Yeah, I mean it was a good photoshop.
- 16:41Speaker 3: I don't blame you, but it was.
- 16:44Speaker 1: It got me. Who else is it? Fake? Nick fan?
- 16:50Speaker 1: Taylor Swift no business being there? Right enough?
- 16:52Speaker 3: Well, okay, I don't know if you saw there was
- 16:53Speaker 3: like tons of beef between Monica McNutt and the Swifties
- 16:57Speaker 3: over the last weeks. Two guys, because I guess Monica
- 16:59Speaker 3: McNutt said that she hadn't seen Taylor at MSG all
- 17:03Speaker 3: season and that she was at like the Cavs game,
- 17:05Speaker 3: you know, the series before with Travis and was like
- 17:08Speaker 3: basically his say. I don't know exactly what she said.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I didn't hear it, but like she said something about
- 17:12Speaker 3: how she's not you know not like a diehard Knicks fan,
- 17:15Speaker 3: and all the Swifties on at Monica McNutt and then
- 17:19Speaker 3: Jalen Brunson after the championship game to Monica McNutt said
- 17:22Speaker 3: on the mic, cut her some slack, all right, like
- 17:24Speaker 3: she's she's a good one, And I like that he
- 17:26Speaker 3: did that because Monica McNutt is awesome.
- 17:29Speaker 4: Yes, dude, this is something that Jess has experience in.
- 17:33Speaker 4: There are a few celebrities that you cannot say anything
- 17:36Speaker 4: about because their fans will come after you, and right,
- 17:40Speaker 4: and the Swifties are at the top of this list.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Absolutely, And yes, like Taylor said, I have experience with this,
- 17:47Speaker 3: there are certain female pop stars you should never talk.
- 17:50Speaker 1: About publicly, like who else Beyonce?
- 17:53Speaker 3: She's definitely one of them. Yes, right, For a while,
- 17:55Speaker 3: Nicki Minaj was one of them. I'm not sure if
- 17:58Speaker 3: that's still the case. I won't name name, but there
- 18:00Speaker 3: are others. Taylor Swift, I think is probably among the
- 18:05Speaker 3: most tread lightly celebrities out there.
- 18:10Speaker 2: So when her and Travis get married at Madison Square Garden,
- 18:13Speaker 2: will the next championship immediately become the second biggest event
- 18:18Speaker 2: in the last six months?
- 18:20Speaker 3: Honestly, that's a good call, probably, And I still can't
- 18:22Speaker 3: believe that she's getting married at MSG, Like that is
- 18:25Speaker 3: so strange. As someone who is planning a wedding right now,
- 18:29Speaker 3: I can't even imagine what is Like, how are you
- 18:33Speaker 3: having this many guests at your wedding? We are having
- 18:35Speaker 3: like a decent sized wedding, And I'm already like, I
- 18:38Speaker 3: can't do this. This is too much.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Yes, Taylor, that's your dream though, right, so I mean
- 18:42Speaker 2: get married at a mecca?
- 18:45Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 18:47Speaker 1: At mid court? Oh god, jess, what do you make here?
- 18:55Speaker 2: Just shifting over to college football here, what do you
- 18:57Speaker 2: make of Soresby no longer at Texas? To Key is
- 19:00Speaker 2: going to the sublement mental Draft. I didn't realize we
- 19:03Speaker 2: still had one of those. But someone's gonna take Swordsby
- 19:06Speaker 2: because the talents is just so overwhelming that a GM
- 19:09Speaker 2: is gonna, for lack of a better term, roll the
- 19:11Speaker 2: dice some bred than Sorsby.
- 19:13Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's been really hard to not make gambling
- 19:15Speaker 3: analogies when like talking about anything in sports, but especially
- 19:19Speaker 3: this scenarios. I'm like, oh man, I don't mean to
- 19:21Speaker 3: make a joke here.
- 19:22Speaker 1: What jokes are we hearing? Like taking him would be
- 19:24Speaker 1: a crapshoot.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Yeah, like exactly, Like, are you going to take a
- 19:26Speaker 3: gamble on a quarterback with a with a gambling addiction.
- 19:29Speaker 1: It's like, seems like a real risk, right, Yeah.
- 19:32Speaker 4: He's betting on himself going to the supplementum.
- 19:34Speaker 3: True, exactly, It's hard. Okay. So I would say since
- 19:39Speaker 3: Texas Tech has made his mental health like the thing
- 19:42Speaker 3: that they keep talking about and all of their press releases,
- 19:47Speaker 3: I do think if you are concerned with his mental health,
- 19:50Speaker 3: this is the best option for him because he would
- 19:52Speaker 3: have been public enemy number one for this entire football season,
- 19:56Speaker 3: especially because Texas Tech. You know that I think they're
- 19:59Speaker 3: gonna be really good. This again, here's another gambling thing.
- 20:02Speaker 3: Their win totals like ten and a half this season,
- 20:04Speaker 3: which is the highest in the Big Twelve. They are,
- 20:07Speaker 3: their schedules not very hard, and so they would have
- 20:10Speaker 3: had a ton of games, and he would have played
- 20:12Speaker 3: in front of national audiences and probably made it to
- 20:16Speaker 3: the playoff. If you know, they've met the expectation ten
- 20:18Speaker 3: and a half games, they probably are a playoff team,
- 20:21Speaker 3: and he just would have gotten absolutely eviscerated throughout this
- 20:25Speaker 3: entire thing. Like I think it would have been really
- 20:27Speaker 3: hard to perform under the circumstances. So I think this
- 20:30Speaker 3: is probably the best thing for him and his mental health.
- 20:33Speaker 3: If he's, you know, has this gambling addiction, if he's
- 20:37Speaker 3: going through anxiety, if this has been as bad for him,
- 20:40Speaker 3: and you know, he had to do thirty days in
- 20:42Speaker 3: an impatient rehab facility, Like I think being the quarterback
- 20:45Speaker 3: for Texas Tech this fall would have been pretty rough.
- 20:49Speaker 3: That being said, I I question how voluntary any of
- 20:53Speaker 3: this is because if you're reading between the lines, and like,
- 20:55Speaker 3: we're recording this Tuesday morning, so I don't know if
- 20:57Speaker 3: more reporting will come out before this does. Like whose
- 21:00Speaker 3: decision was this, Like did they feel like this was
- 21:04Speaker 3: the safest option because of the text the big twelves
- 21:08Speaker 3: filing that they filed on Monday that would have potentially
- 21:13Speaker 3: risked further down the road him being ineligible after the
- 21:17Speaker 3: supplemental draft deadline, or was this Texas text saying like
- 21:21Speaker 3: this has been a huge pr hit and we kind
- 21:23Speaker 3: of wanted this to be over, so we think you
- 21:24Speaker 3: should go. Like, I'm kind of curious who made up
- 21:27Speaker 3: their minds here. I'd like to think it was him
- 21:30Speaker 3: and he and his agent and his family and his
- 21:33Speaker 3: team were like, let's just cut our losses and go like, right,
- 21:37Speaker 3: we still have a chance in the professional leagues. Like
- 21:39Speaker 3: you're a good quarterback, you can do this. And I'd
- 21:43Speaker 3: like to think that that's what happened, but I'm really
- 21:44Speaker 3: not sure Steve Gottson until I find that out. I'm
- 21:46Speaker 3: kind of kind of curious what happened over the last
- 21:50Speaker 3: twenty four hours.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Don't you feel like it's some sort of combination, like
- 21:53Speaker 2: Texas Tech is like, Hey, this story is it's gaining
- 21:56Speaker 2: too much traction. There's too much criticism here, Swords be
- 21:59Speaker 2: saying and his with NFL gms, someone's gonna take them, Jess,
- 22:03Speaker 2: because you're so talented and nflgms don't care.
- 22:05Speaker 1: And maybe it's just a joint decision. Hey, you're gonna
- 22:08Speaker 1: get drafted.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Let's just go to the NFL now and get this
- 22:10Speaker 2: away from Texas Tech and college football in general.
- 22:13Speaker 3: You know, yeah, I mean it's possible. But I'm also
- 22:15Speaker 3: I wonder how threatened they were by the Big Twelve
- 22:19Speaker 3: being able to say you're banned from Big Twelve postseason games,
- 22:23Speaker 3: or you know, we can put sanctions on you or
- 22:25Speaker 3: whatever because I guess like one of the things. And
- 22:29Speaker 3: obviously I'm not a lawyer. I'm you know, I'm not
- 22:31Speaker 3: working at a law firm, So this is just based
- 22:33Speaker 3: off of what I've read. The Attorney General for Texas
- 22:36Speaker 3: wrote a letter last week that apparently opened the way
- 22:41Speaker 3: for the Big Twelve to post a lawsuit asking a
- 22:45Speaker 3: federal judge if they could enforce their own rules basically,
- 22:48Speaker 3: And so I wonder if that hadn't happened last week,
- 22:50Speaker 3: if the Big Twelve, if Texas Tech just thought like,
- 22:53Speaker 3: the Big Twelve can try, but they don't have enough
- 22:55Speaker 3: teeth to really go through any sort of punishment or
- 22:58Speaker 3: sanctions for us, And if that's what changed over the
- 23:01Speaker 3: last week, then they probably did tell him like, hey,
- 23:04Speaker 3: you should go because we're not really sure if you
- 23:06Speaker 3: are going to be able to play. And then you know,
- 23:08Speaker 3: once we get past the supplemental draft deadline, it's too late.
- 23:11Speaker 3: So I am kind of curious like what exactly it was.
- 23:16Speaker 3: But yeah, in my heart of hearts, I hope that
- 23:19Speaker 3: it was just someone making an adult decision in the
- 23:21Speaker 3: room and saying like, this is what's best for you
- 23:24Speaker 3: and you should do this.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Just switching to the world Cup. There is a Stu
- 23:29Speaker 4: Goats of the World Cup going around right now getting
- 23:32Speaker 4: free stuff city to city. What can you tell us
- 23:36Speaker 4: more about this? This Freddy super fan.
- 23:38Speaker 3: So this guy Freddy, he popped up on my timeline
- 23:41Speaker 3: last week like around this time. He was driving around
- 23:44Speaker 3: the Southeast. He's, you know, posting all his pictures of
- 23:46Speaker 3: stuff that he was seeing in America, and I was like,
- 23:48Speaker 3: this is so awesome. Look at this BUCkies. This is
- 23:50Speaker 3: a gas station. I can't believe this. And it was
- 23:52Speaker 3: very charming and cute, and a lot of you know,
- 23:56Speaker 3: American fans who are very down on this World Cup
- 23:59Speaker 3: for a lot of obvious reasons, were like, this is
- 24:03Speaker 3: a feel good thing. There's all these you know, people
- 24:05Speaker 3: from abroad coming to the US and finding the joy
- 24:08Speaker 3: in the simple things, the things we take for granted
- 24:10Speaker 3: this country, like a ginormous gas station that sells brisket
- 24:14Speaker 3: and has just so many bathrooms in it. And so
- 24:18Speaker 3: it was very it was very cute. And then as
- 24:20Speaker 3: time went on, I kind of had this thought last
- 24:22Speaker 3: week like if I'm not saying Freddy is in the CIA,
- 24:26Speaker 3: but if I were in the CIA, one thing that
- 24:29Speaker 3: I would do to make America look awesome. Would be
- 24:32Speaker 3: to have European travelers post a bunch of pictures about
- 24:36Speaker 3: how awesome the United States is, yes, and make other
- 24:39Speaker 3: American Americans be like, oh, oh, this isn't so bad,
- 24:43Speaker 3: Like we have a pretty good year, we have BUCkies,
- 24:45Speaker 3: Like how bad can it be? Not saying that he's
- 24:48Speaker 3: in the CIA, but I'm saying if I were in
- 24:50Speaker 3: the CIA, that's probably what I would do. But then
- 24:54Speaker 3: I thought, you know, maybe that's too cynical. Maybe he's not.
- 24:57Speaker 3: Maybe they're like, you know, this is just organic. But
- 25:00Speaker 3: Stu Gotts he started getting all the people all over
- 25:03Speaker 3: the place started finding this guy and giving him free stuff.
- 25:06Speaker 3: And then I thought, maybe I'm being cynical, but the
- 25:09Speaker 3: wrong way, where like, this guy's not a government plant.
- 25:12Speaker 3: This guy is just doing the American grift of if
- 25:16Speaker 3: I post a lot, I'll get free stuff. Because now
- 25:19Speaker 3: he's just gotten so much free stuff. JJ Watt got
- 25:22Speaker 3: him a hotel room in Houston. What yeah, oh oh yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 3: like beautiful hotel room. He hooked him up with bagels
- 25:28Speaker 3: and schmears and all this. I mean, just like he's
- 25:31Speaker 3: getting all this stuff Stu Gotts, And so I thought,
- 25:34Speaker 3: you know, maybe Freddy is more American than we think.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Yes, maybe he's me.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Maybe maybe Freddy is just Stu Gotts. His Twitter account
- 25:44Speaker 3: does say it's based in Germany. I don't know how
- 25:46Speaker 3: easy it is to fudge those things. I'm not again,
- 25:49Speaker 3: I'm not claiming he is a CIA plant. I'm just
- 25:51Speaker 3: saying it's doing a good job of marketing the United
- 25:54Speaker 3: States to people who may not have the best opinion
- 25:56Speaker 3: of the United States.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Yes, is the Twitter handle at Stutts ninety, I mean,
- 26:03Speaker 2: does it really? Yes, it's my burner account, it's at
- 26:07Speaker 2: freddie la seven. The least surprising thing that Jess said
- 26:11Speaker 2: was JJ Watt inserting himself into this story. Well, he
- 26:13Speaker 2: always does, I mean, that's what he does. Yes, free
- 26:15Speaker 2: the hotel room, right that he didn't get for free.
- 26:17Speaker 2: The hotel comped it. And you know, you know, JJ
- 26:21Speaker 2: looks like a hero.
