- Lucas: Welcome back to another episode of Learn Italian with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. Hello everyone! It is so good to be back at the mic. Lucas: It really is. We have been doing a lot of winter vocabulary lately, haven't we? Luna: Yes. Skiing, cabins, scarves... it has been very cozy. Lucas: True. But today we are going inside. Not a cabin, but inside ourselves. Luna: Oh. Inside ourselves? That sounds deep. Lucas: Not too deep. Just the basics of how you feel. Today we learn five key phrases about emotions and physical states. Luna: I like that. I want to be able to tell people how I feel in Italian. Lucas: Then let us start with the first one. The most positive one. Luna: Okay. What is the first phrase? Lucas: The phrase is: sono felice. Luna: Sono felice. Lucas: Exactly. Sono felice. This means 'I am happy'. Luna: Sono felice. I am happy. Lucas: Good. Say it again slowly. Sono felice. Luna: Sono felice. I love how easy that is. Lucas: It is. And notice the structure. 'Sono' means 'I am'. 'Felice' means 'happy'. Luna: So 'sono' plus an adjective. Got it. Lucas: Precisely. Let us try a scene. Imagine you just ate delicious gelato. Luna: Oh wow. Okay. I would say: sono felice! Lucas: Perfect. You are smiling already. Let us keep going. Luna: What is the next feeling? Lucas: Let us talk about fear. It is a strong feeling. Luna: I get scared sometimes. How do I say that? Lucas: For fear, we use a different verb. We say: ho paura. Luna: Ho paura. Lucas: Yes. Ho paura. This literally means 'I have fear'. Luna: I have fear. Oh, that makes sense. Like having hunger or thirst. Lucas: Exactly. Remember from earlier episodes? We said 'ho fame' for hunger. Now 'ho paura'. Luna: Right. So it is 'have' plus the noun. Ho paura. Lucas: Repeat it. Ho paura. Luna: Ho paura. I have fear. Lucas: Very good. Let us try a scene. You see a big spider on the wall. Luna: Eek! Okay. I would shout: ho paura! Lucas: Well, maybe whisper it. But the phrase is correct. Luna: Sorry. I will be quiet. Ho paura. Lucas: That is better. Now, let us look at sadness. Luna: Sadness. That is harder to say with a smile. Lucas: No need to force it. The phrase is: sono triste. Luna: Sono triste. Lucas: Sono triste. This means 'I am sad'. Luna: Sono triste. Again using 'sono' because it is an adjective. Lucas: Correct. Triste is the word for sad. Sono triste. Luna: Sono triste. I am sad. Lucas: Try it again. Slowly. Sono triste. Luna: Sono triste. It feels honest when you say it. Lucas: It does. Let us try a scene. Your favorite TV show was cancelled. Luna: Oh no. That is terrible. I would say: sono triste. Lucas: I know that pain. Sono triste. Next up is anger. Luna: Anger. Oof. That is a heavy one. Lucas: It can be. The phrase is: sono arrabbiato. Luna: Sono arrabbiato. Lucas: Yes. Sono arrabbiato. This means 'I am angry'. Luna: Sono arrabbiato. Arrabbiato is a long word. Lucas: It is. But break it down. ar ra bbia to. Sono arrabbiato. Luna: Sono arrabbiato. I am angry. Lucas: Again. Sono arrabbiato. Luna: Sono arrabbiato. It feels powerful to say. Lucas: It is. Try a scene. Someone takes your seat on the bus. Luna: Oh my gosh. That would make me mad. I would say: sono arrabbiato. Lucas: Definitely. Almost done. One more phrase. Luna: What is it? Lucas: A general feeling of well-being. The phrase is: mi sento bene. Luna: Mi sento bene. Lucas: Mi sento bene. This means 'I feel good' or 'I feel well'. Luna: Mi sento bene. Sento comes from sentire, to feel. Lucas: Spot on. Mi sento bene. It is reflexive. I feel myself well. Luna: Mi sento bene. I feel good. Lucas: Repeat it. Mi sento bene. Luna: Mi sento bene. That is such a nice phrase to end on. Lucas: It is. Let us review all five quickly. Luna: Okay. First: sono felice. Lucas: I am happy. Luna: Second: ho paura. Lucas: I have fear. Luna: Third: sono triste. Lucas: I am sad. Luna: Fourth: sono arrabbiato. Lucas: I am angry. Luna: Fifth: mi sento bene. Lucas: I feel good. Luna: Wow. We covered so much ground today. Lucas: We did. From happiness to fear, sadness, anger, and general well-being. Luna: These are so useful. I can finally tell people how I really feel. Lucas: And that connection is what language is all about. Luna: Before we go, I have a small request. Lucas: What is it? Luna: If you enjoy these episodes and want to support the show, you can buy me a coffee. Lucas: Yeah.
