- Simeon Schlicher: Welcome back. I need to turn the music down just a little bit. It is mostly college football recap. I don't even know what week we're at. I think this is seven? Six? Listen, you're stuck with me, the guy who doesn't know anything. Mostly College Football recap. I got a few games here for you. I'm super excited to go over this. total transparency, as we like to do here on Mostly College Football. I didn't watch any of these games. So I got some notes from Makaiah. I got some notes from Robert Roberto. We're gonna kind of put stuff together. You'll see me reading off my phone some of their notes. we're super excited. they watch these games, lots of good, interesting. Now I am going to start with Michigan Rutgers. And the reason I'm starting with Michigan Rutgers is because I paid attention to this game on my phone. I was out with family yesterday, annual wine day that we do. There was no way I was going to have football on while doing other stuff. just wasn't one of those types of events. and this is the best part is you guys get to, because it's me. And I know there's a visual aspect to people. If you're on YouTube or I think even now with Apple or Spotify, there's a video component. You can go ahead and flip open. You'll see my talking head as well as the stats from the game. I'm just touching here quick on Michigan just because at the end of the day, we're Michigan fans. Tommy Carr two twenty six through the air. Inconsistent is what I was v reading. off of the group text their play good game but you still only beat Rutgers by seven you let Rutgers put up twenty-one points for you excuse me put up twenty one points against you of a really good I don't know what their Michigan what their what their defense is rated right now probably something ridiculous like top ten defense you let Rutgers put up twenty-one points what does that mean for you? Tommy Carr more consistent Run game more consistent, finally running down the hills. This is what I'm interested in. team stat, rushing yards, full team stat, points four. just overall more consistent, what you want to see from a team that is developing for what they need and what they're having. So defensive defense, this is what I want to know. They're allowing they're first in the Big Ten all conferences. What do they rank defensive? Third overall in total yards a game. I'd be interested in like can I click on these? This is well, I mean, welcome to me doing a podcast with you. so just the basically the third ranked defense it looks like by in in yards a game, which is you let Rutgers put up twenty one points against you. But hey, at least we can run inside zone now, and that's kind of the important part. Headed down south Texas, taking on Mississippi State. and you'll have to forgive me. Of course, all my notes are over here on these screens, because you know, why wouldn't they be? Well, there's gonna go away perfect. we're having fun here. Okay. The big thing, this was a Texas home game. The big takeaway here, Simeon, why are you bringing up it was a 331? Obviously, mi Mississippi Mississippi State's just tanking, basically. If they could tank for something, they would be tanking right now. Arch lucked his way into a defense with a Mississippi into defense defeated, sorry, Mississippi State team, which just kind of allowed him to keep his job another week. Robert is saying and seeing over and over again that like Arch Manning. And you you see this when he plays, he just he feels uncomfortable. he's he's a talent, it's all there. He could be fantastic, but we just don't know what we're gonna get week to week. Sixteen for twenty, three touchdowns, two twenty. So he had a good day, which is great, but what are you gonna get down the stretch? Again, SEC looking more and more questionable. We talked about that, we'll talk about it more this week, probably me and Robert on the podcast, but we're looking right now, Georgia, Kentucky up at the top, if they keep doing what they can, with can which Kentucky, I think they have, if I'm remembering correctly, have an easier schedule for them coming up. you know, what what can what does the SEC look like? They have Tennessee, Florida, Missouri. Okay, so three harder teams opposite, I was remembering. They had their easy part in the back and now they have the harder part of their schedule coming in. Oregon Northwestern. Very interesting game. Oregon with a very needed bounce back win for the program. Most expensive, you know, most expensive roster this year and is a three loss team. Two in the Big Ten, three and two. Where does that put them? These were two middle of the road teams. it puts them in the middle of the road. What do my notes say here? If I'm remembering correctly, fun, fun game. Northwestern is the exception to the rule, just kicking the field goal. Like the exception to the rule of Oregon scores touchdown, Northwestern scores fi field goals. That's the difference. I don't know why it is the exception to the rule. You gotta love using AI sometimes to help you with your notes. Doesn't always make sense. Northwestern has a legitimate offense. They're gonna get another team. for sure. Who do they play le who do they have left? very interesting game. Iowa easily could win that game. Ohio State with the quarterback and how we saw them lose to USC, we'll get to them next. could easily beat Ohio State. There's only two losses in the conference. If they win out and UCLA drops one, Indiana drops another one. What does that look like all of a sudden with Northwestern Big Ten kind of looking more like the Big Twelve from a couple of years ago where there's a lot of possibilities for somebody doing something and someone just kinda stumbling in. Think Duke being like a five hundred, just over five hundred team getting in the ACC championship would be a little bit crazy, but you know, here we are and that's what we do. Realizing that I am super loud. Apologies for that if I am. this one was a surprising one for me. I know you lose a bunch of coordinators, these things happen. This is the Ohio State USC game. Obviously, East Coast, West Coast, it's normally harder the other way around. We're going normally West Coast, East Coast. It's a home game for USC. Big needed win for USC. in their program to keep things moving. you know, but at the end of the day What are we doing Ohio State? You're supposed to be this top-rated program, should be able to do anything that you need to. And you come out here and you let Lin Lincoln Riley put up 30 on you. Ohio State, the notes are saying needs a different QB, or they're not gonna make it. And that's very clear. You only put up 18 and you have the best. honestly a really good running the best wide receiver and a really good running back. There's no reason. I think possibly we need to talk to the offensive line. Is there any reason that we we can't run the ball more? I mean 121 carries for 121 for 121 yards for Bo Jackson just seems a little a little lackluster, all things considered. So USC goes with the upset again. Going back to the looking here at the standings, UCLA, Indiana, and then USC all of a sudden up there because they're gonna take they're they're gonna they're gonna play some games. They're gonna keep fighting, apparently. I wouldn't have said that after the rest of how the rest of their season looks like. Got Indiana next week, a win against Maryland, and then the rivalry game with UCLA, which right now looks like it could be deciding who goes to the Big Ten championship in Indianapolis. This was a fun one. We said watch out. We said watch out. we don't know Bill Belichick, n smart coach, really good defensive coach, probably one of the best. I'm trying to find my notes. And it took this did this game go into overtime? no, play by play. No, it is not. Did not go into overtime. But it was close. nail biter from what I could tell. looks like well attended too for a UNC game this close in. the question now is like who's at the top? SMU lost? of that's like it's more interested to me. if with SM with SMU getting upset. Wake Forest, are they a team? Are they not a team? Obviously, one loss in conference, Miami. Boy, what an offense. Can play the g can play the game the way that you enjoy watching. I don't know what I'm doing today, guys. I'm just having fun. The question is when you go up against a really good you clearly have no defense. When you go up against a really good defense or someone who can like actually scheme against you, are you gonna are you gonna be consistent enough? I mean, this is the problem they ran in with Indiana, are they gonna be consistent last year? Are they gonna be consistent enough to be able to put up 35 points to put up 42 points a game and have a defense that if they run into a Georgia who's gonna play down in the trenches, and looks like they could be the national champions after being kind of quiet for the first two-thirds of the season, what does that look like for a Miami team? A lot of fun to watch, but is it the standard Miami where they're just hot, fun to look at, but no substance really underneath. Is that who we're gonna get? Florida, you guys had a really good year. Congratulations. have you get the particip you get like the trophy that's like most improved. I have to apologize. You guys when you fired Billy Napier and hired and I don't even know his name, I'm like, listen, you're just you literally just did the same exact thing. You fired a coach who was at a small program, turned him around, did really good. so you brought him in and then You let him go when he wasn't performing the way you want him to perform, and then you did the same exact thing and you hired the same exact coach. So you fired a guy and hired him. And you know, JMU lost again, so I I owe Micaiah five bucks, unfortunately. But Billy Napier went on to do fantastic things with JMU. I'm happy they're moving to the American. I like that team. I like the culture. I like that it's nothing let them down. They were gonna grow. But Florida, bro. Eight points. Eight after just being able to like do whatever you want for the first half of the season on the ground, and now you're losing to a lackluster at this point, up until this point, your Georgia team by I don't feel like doing math, nineteen points. in the largest outdoor cocktail party, the world's largest outdoor cocktail party anyway, home game unfortunately, even though it's neutral site. Georgia bounce back. Who they lose to again? I'm honestly forgetting who they lost to. Still number, still up in the SEC. They're probably gonna win. They'll probably be at this point be taking on Kentucky if Kentucky can win out Auburn. That's right. listen, balance team. Again, the people who the standard is the standard. The people who can stick to the standard and continue to bear down after you lose to an Auburn team. Who isn't that good? You just got a hot coach. And you can come back. If they just have to, rattle off who they got. Ole Miss next week. Okay, Missouri, hard game, South Carolina, Georgia Tech. If they get if they win both of those Ole Miss Missouri game, this probably is your national championship again. Congratulations. They won and life's boring again for us. Who who's surprised by that? Nobody. That's who's surprised by that. We're only at 13 minutes and I am struggling through this. Guys, I'm gonna throw an ad out there. Kindred couches. Use promo code JT. We're short for $150 off an order of $1,500 or more. We're trying to grow this podcast, we're trying to do things. if I was doing this full time, it would look different and things wouldn't be such a failure. Like I am. Indiana. Minnesota. I didn't think this was going to be a game. I'm looking at the frickin' box score. It wasn't. I guess it technically was there for a little bit in the middle. but like the biggest thing we learned from this game was the fact that Indiana does not have a quarterback. Looks like they shut Josh Hoover. I didn't know that. That's not a good thing. You're the number four ranked team in the nation. You got you got the one loss. Who do you have left? And you and you just realized to Ohio State. You just realized two weeks ago against a really bad Michigan team that you guys don't have a quarterback. Probably should have figured that out before week nine. Probably should have figured that out before week ten. You take on a a USC team who now has they got the scent. They smell blood in the water. It's important. we're gonna look at the standing the standings here in a second. I just wanted to shout out one of my my games that I picked. If you're listening to the full podcast, do do do do do the Delaware, Western Kentucky. Also, I called this Miami. That was a good game. Delaware, Western Kentucky. Fun game. Twenty one points in the second half. Man, Delaware really squeaking one bye there. Apparently, defense is stepped up. I don't know how this I don't know how this works. Delaware is one of those programs that was FCS that bounced up into what they into what they are now and have, you know, basically taken the bull by the horns for the most part, but here we are. All right. Let's look at the the the rankings. The AP rankings are not out. Actually, I think this is the first week of the college football playoff rankings. So those will be coming out on Tuesday. I have volleyball on Tuesday. We're in the championship. No big deal. So we're just gonna look at the conferences and then I'm gonna get out of here and hope for the best. Cause boy, am I bad at this. UTSA still up there in the American with North Texas right around them. I'm gonna give North Texas a lot of credit right now. Being number two in the American, undefeated in the conference, huge deal. You lost your coach, you lost all of your players, and you're still bouncing back six and two overall. Honestly fantastic. Congratulations to North Texas mean green. As they continue to win. Again, SMU, they lost two. We'll cover this more on the podcast this week. Syracuse, upset by Syracuse by three. Man, Syracuse likes to have that's a fun. Any game you watch with Syracuse in it is probably going to be a fun game to watch. So, you know, you can watch that one on your couch. Kindred couches JT was short for $150 off. Miami really in the driver's seat. Really in the driver's seat. Yes, we got Wake Forest surprise, much like Texas, North Texas, and an American, but it's Miami, or there's nothing. This is the fun one. Big 12. Looking forward to the what is it called again? The the holy war. BYU wins over Arizona State, Utah over Cincinnati this week. That thing that's a this week game, if I'm not mistaken. I think they play each other this week. They do. 12 p.m. ABC. Ooh, early kick. They gotta stop doing these with these mountain west coast games. They need to put them on in the afternoon if you want to put them on at twelve, because that's that's a 10 a.m. kick. It's not gonna be fun football to watch. But at the end of the day, it will be fun football to watch. Texas Tech all over the place. but it looks like they found their new quarterback in Tommy Cow. What is it with these schools changing quarterbacks in the middle of the season. Kind of wild. yeah, Texas Tech, Tommy Castellanos apparently ran for 117 yards himself, beating who'd they play? Arizona by eight. So again, Big 12 kind of wide open still. Really, these top three will know who who Texas Tech is going to play if they win out, if Tommy keeps playing the way that he needs to. Big Ten R he stated UCLA, were they on a bye this week? They might have been on a bye. They need to win out. question mark at Ohio State. Question mark if USC's coming back. Somehow Illinois here. Somehow Minnesota's here. This could get interesting real fast. USC could be up there. Minnesota, they were on up or did they play Nevada? I think they played Nevada. So just a lot of questions. What what are we gonna see from the Big Ten? Weird to see UCLA there at the top. Congratulations to them. Conference USA. No one cares about you, but congratulations, Liberty. bouncing back yet again. they got I think they're on a second year coach, if I'm not mistaken. Notre Dame, again, we're not on a buy, but they they beat whoever they were, no, no name playing. Ohio in the Mac, congratulations. Again, they're not getting in. With JMU's second loss, it is for sure Boise in the driver's seat. which is really interesting to me. They're only at twenty. I think that one loss was against Oregon. Should be a fun game in the Pac 12 conference against the Beavers. That's next week. Interesting 6 p.m. game, a little 6 p.m. game. so Pac-12 is interesting, and that's probably who we're getting out of the group of six is Boise for sure. Southeast Conference again. It really depends. I think we're gonna know it if this week, if Kentucky loses, then it's a wide open. If not, it's gonna be a Georgia-Kentucky thing. Congrats to Ryan Silverfield again. James Madison jumping over to the Sunbelt. James Madison, second loss this week. But wild. Look at that. Seven and two overall. But because they have two loss, their two losses are in conference, that means that Georgia Southern is above. Make that make sense for me. Please. I don't know. Guys, we'll see you on Tuesday. I hope you had a fantastic college football. Comment down below that how much you hate me and you never want to see my face again. I love you all. See ya.
