- 0:42Speaker 1: Welcome to the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest
- 0:46Speaker 1: running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world, over
- 0:49Speaker 1: thirteen years strong. We've got a great show coming to
- 0:51Speaker 1: you this week where we are going to be getting
- 0:53Speaker 1: into the Philadelphia Phillies and what we're thrown down on
- 0:56Speaker 1: the table. This week, we've got a great interview with
- 0:58Speaker 1: our friend Anthony Miller from Inside the He's going to
- 1:00Speaker 1: be joining us to talk about what we're seeing from
- 1:03Speaker 1: the Eagles during training camp, storylines that we're going to
- 1:06Speaker 1: be following this upcoming season. What we saw in that
- 1:08Speaker 1: first Eagles preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens where there
- 1:13Speaker 1: wasn't a lot of great stuff. Yeah, I mean.
- 1:19Speaker 2: If you're looking to, yeah, if you're looking to get
- 1:21Speaker 2: like deep into like the roster battles, then I get it.
- 1:25Speaker 2: But like I we put it on and it was like, Okay,
- 1:28Speaker 2: none of the starters are playing, Like I hope at
- 1:31Speaker 2: least we'd get like one drive out of them, but yeah,
- 1:33Speaker 2: they weren't even doing that. So it was just like,
- 1:35Speaker 2: you know, you know, you want to see I guess
- 1:37Speaker 2: the you know, guys that are going to be second
- 1:39Speaker 2: string and maybe third stringers. Yeah, in in case, you know,
- 1:43Speaker 2: work worst case scenario they're needed due to injury. But
- 1:46Speaker 2: you know, at the same time, it's just like, you know,
- 1:49Speaker 2: if I see these people on the field a lot
- 1:51Speaker 2: over the course of the season, it's not going to
- 1:54Speaker 2: be a great year.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Look, I'm gonna I'm gonna ask Anthony. We're gonna do
- 1:58Speaker 1: a stock up stock down type of a type of
- 2:01Speaker 1: bit there, and I'm gonna ask him about the quarterback
- 2:04Speaker 1: two position stuck up or stock down because Andy Dalton
- 2:08Speaker 1: looked like Poostu one of your favorite phrases from back
- 2:10Speaker 1: end of the day. And so.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But I mean, at least McKee you can kind of
- 2:16Speaker 2: dream on a little bit. I mean there's no yes,
- 2:18Speaker 2: there's no real room for growth with Andy Dalton. He
- 2:22Speaker 2: he was who he's gonna be like six years ago.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. All right, Well let's let's let's get
- 2:30Speaker 1: into the crux of what we're gonna be talking about here,
- 2:33Speaker 1: Len before we bring on our guests this week, some
- 2:36Speaker 1: Phillies talk thoughts on the field of dreams game. I
- 2:41Speaker 1: just going into it, I was really excited because I'm like,
- 2:45Speaker 1: this is where this Phillies team based on where this
- 2:49Speaker 1: is being played just kind of the nostalgic aspect of
- 2:54Speaker 1: this particular setting that they were in, based on the
- 2:57Speaker 1: Field of Dreams movie that we all watched. You know,
- 2:59Speaker 1: we're going up so thinking, you know what, this could
- 3:01Speaker 1: be a really great spot for this Phillies team to
- 3:05Speaker 1: really kind of turn things around, and they certainly did.
- 3:08Speaker 1: They really did il Swimmer with two shore bombs. You know.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Oh it was great. I just I loved it for
- 3:16Speaker 1: so many reasons. Unfortunately, a lot of people didn't even
- 3:22Speaker 1: know this thing was going on. To be honest with you,
- 3:24Speaker 1: I think Netflix and Major League Baseball did a really
- 3:26Speaker 1: poor job of letting the general public know that they
- 3:30Speaker 1: had a game that was actually worth watching. So it
- 3:33Speaker 1: was Major League Baseball's first game at the Field of
- 3:36Speaker 1: Dreams movie site in four years in Dyersville, Iowa. It
- 3:41Speaker 1: averaged about one point sixty six million viewers on Netflix
- 3:45Speaker 1: Thursday this past Thursday night. It was down substantially from
- 3:50Speaker 1: the twenty twenty four game at Rickwood Field in Birmingham,
- 3:53Speaker 1: Alabama that averaged two point five million views on Fox
- 3:57Speaker 1: when that game took place. So little little disappointment from
- 4:02Speaker 1: Netflix in Major League Baseball not really letting the general
- 4:05Speaker 1: public know that there was a game worth watching that
- 4:07Speaker 1: was pretty freaking cool for a lot of us.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I would think that a lot of
- 4:12Speaker 2: that goes to maybe MLB and Netflix's promotion of it.
- 4:17Speaker 2: You know, maybe they do a good enough job promoting it.
- 4:19Speaker 2: I mean, I think the Phillies are a team with
- 4:22Speaker 2: a lot of a lot of people that you know,
- 4:24Speaker 2: you might want to see, you know, the Harpers, the
- 4:26Speaker 2: shore Bers, you know, guys like that, whereas the Twins,
- 4:30Speaker 2: you know, okay, yeah, Byron Buckson is good, but also like,
- 4:34Speaker 2: who else really was on the Twins that you know,
- 4:37Speaker 2: right you're tuning in the CEA. So maybe if it
- 4:39Speaker 2: was more of a marquee opponent as my hey.
- 4:44Speaker 3: As my dog is messing with the bed in the background.
- 4:48Speaker 1: I was just sooner, butthole was in the case.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I could see it too in the camera.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I was like, god, damn it, Luna, So yeah.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I freaking love it so much. It's better than a
- 5:01Speaker 1: lot of our other friends. Dogs will tell you that much.
- 5:05Speaker 3: She has her moments.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, sorry, go ah.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Yeah, No, I mean the Phillies are I don't know
- 5:11Speaker 2: I would call them a marquee team, but you know
- 5:13Speaker 2: they're they're marketable, whereas are the twins, you know, so,
- 5:19Speaker 2: and that's not me trying to disparage the Twins at all,
- 5:22Speaker 2: it's just the reality of the situation.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, And look, I think I thank god they
- 5:27Speaker 1: won the game because we're We're always going to be
- 5:29Speaker 1: able to say now for the rest of our lives,
- 5:31Speaker 1: the Phillies won that first Major League Baseball game at
- 5:34Speaker 1: the Field of dream Site, and I just the nostalgic
- 5:38Speaker 1: of it. I just thought it was so freaking cool, man,
- 5:40Speaker 1: I really did it.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I mean, the visuals are incredible. You know, coming out
- 5:45Speaker 2: of the corn is always going to be cool. It's
- 5:48Speaker 2: gonna be something everybody that gets to play in that
- 5:50Speaker 2: game is going to look forward to. Everybody that that
- 5:54Speaker 2: plays baseball has watched that movie and is dying to
- 5:58Speaker 2: do that. So, I mean that's and then in the
- 6:00Speaker 2: Hall of Fame Legends coming out afterward, I think only
- 6:03Speaker 2: added to that. So it was I mean the way
- 6:07Speaker 2: the way they actually did the thing was awesome. It's
- 6:11Speaker 2: just maybe the promoting of the thing wasn't where it
- 6:14Speaker 2: should have been.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Maybe. Absolutely. Yeah, look too, I think everybody on the
- 6:18Speaker 1: team didn't everybody on the team have a hit except
- 6:20Speaker 1: for JT. Real Muto. I believe, I think so.
- 6:23Speaker 2: I mean, and that's you know, the the Phillies came
- 6:26Speaker 2: to play in that game. I mean, Nola was the
- 6:28Speaker 2: best he'd been all year. You know the fact that
- 6:31Speaker 2: they didn't have the ABS system that's been talked about
- 6:33Speaker 2: a lot where uh, he struggled with that due to
- 6:36Speaker 2: you know, some of the break on some of his pitches.
- 6:38Speaker 3: They don't always get called strikes.
- 6:40Speaker 2: That wasn't available at this game, so you're only going
- 6:43Speaker 2: off of the UMPSI and he probably got more strikes
- 6:46Speaker 2: than he normally does.
- 6:46Speaker 3: But he'd pitched great.
- 6:50Speaker 1: Like the runs, Yeah, really quick with the pitching. I
- 6:52Speaker 1: like the fact that they didn't have the pitching of
- 6:55Speaker 1: the box above on plate. I really enjoyed that. Dude,
- 6:59Speaker 1: we haven't seen that. How it's in decades.
- 7:02Speaker 3: It's been some time, Yeah, for sure.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Yes, And I'm sorry, go ahead, you were you wanted to.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Tell No, I'm just I mean they were hitting.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I mean, the second chore for home run that probably
- 7:12Speaker 2: could have been caught bounced off the guy's glove.
- 7:15Speaker 3: But what are you gonna do? I mean, it's just
- 7:17Speaker 3: it's a tough play regardless. But I mean, they showed up.
- 7:20Speaker 3: They played well, they pitched well, they hit well.
- 7:22Speaker 2: I mean, for a Phillies fan, you couldn't really ask
- 7:25Speaker 2: for much more out of that performance from them.
- 7:28Speaker 1: And it started a sweep of the Minnesota Twins. And
- 7:34Speaker 1: I guess next in terms of where we're talking about
- 7:37Speaker 1: with this team is you know, where where are they
- 7:39Speaker 1: going to go here in August. I'm actually going to
- 7:44Speaker 1: be I mean, this podcast is going to be uploaded,
- 7:46Speaker 1: but I would have gone to the I'm going to
- 7:48Speaker 1: the game this Wednesday. So it's this past Wednesday, the
- 7:50Speaker 1: game that I'm at, and I I'm not gonna say
- 7:56Speaker 1: what I want to see because people are going to
- 7:58Speaker 1: be listening to this and watching this after. But I mean,
- 8:02Speaker 1: I really wonder if this offense can really make positive
- 8:05Speaker 1: changes here in August to at least try to have
- 8:09Speaker 1: some sort of consistency. For the love of God, I
- 8:12Speaker 1: just want some consistency because the streakiness of this offense
- 8:16Speaker 1: is just driving me absolutely crazy. You know, you've had
- 8:20Speaker 1: Christopher Sanchez just being an absolute ace for a specific
- 8:24Speaker 1: point in time during the course of the season, then
- 8:27Speaker 1: you have like right now, Zeus Lizardo is that guy
- 8:30Speaker 1: who it looks like that Ace right here at this
- 8:33Speaker 1: particular point in the season, Zach Wheeler at once struggle. Yeah, Yeah,
- 8:39Speaker 1: he's been struggling.
- 8:40Speaker 2: He's pitching tonight against against Miami, and they showed his
- 8:45Speaker 2: past four starts.
- 8:46Speaker 3: He struggled the work starts.
- 8:48Speaker 2: The e RA is over seventh, so he he's gotten
- 8:52Speaker 2: off track a little bit. Maybe that's the I don't
- 8:55Speaker 2: know with him, if it's the August dead arm period,
- 8:57Speaker 2: because he did miss the beginning of the year with
- 8:58Speaker 2: the durrassicale the recovery from that surgery.
- 9:02Speaker 3: So I don't know.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I don't know what's going on with him right now,
- 9:05Speaker 2: but hopefully he can work his way through it.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah. I just again, I want to get back to
- 9:10Speaker 1: the offense, like can this offense be consistent because at
- 9:15Speaker 1: this point, you know, we are seeing good stuff from
- 9:17Speaker 1: Bryce Harper. I think Kyle Schwarber is getting back into
- 9:21Speaker 1: the swing of things. I just we need Bryson start,
- 9:24Speaker 1: Bryson start, Bryson Stott. What the hell? Where am I
- 9:28Speaker 1: I'm telling you, I talk so much throughout the day
- 9:32Speaker 1: to people, do you have like.
- 9:35Speaker 2: A finite limit on your brain of Okay, these words
- 9:38Speaker 2: can come out good and after this word count, I'm done.
- 9:41Speaker 3: For the day. Like is that? How is that how
- 9:43Speaker 3: it works with you?
- 9:44Speaker 1: It's kind of like how I tell my kids. I'm like,
- 9:46Speaker 1: there's only a certain amount of ram and gigabytes that
- 9:49Speaker 1: are in here, and there's not many left.
- 9:53Speaker 3: That's fair.
- 9:55Speaker 1: So that being said, Bryson Stott, you know, I mean,
- 9:59Speaker 1: we've seen some good stuff from him, you know, over
- 10:02Speaker 1: the course of you know, the past month or so here,
- 10:05Speaker 1: and I just want to see consistency with this team
- 10:07Speaker 1: again comes back to that word consistency with this offense here.
- 10:11Speaker 1: I think that's what they need in order to and
- 10:13Speaker 1: it may sound simplistic, may sound elementary, but it's what
- 10:15Speaker 1: they need in order to really make a run at
- 10:18Speaker 1: the postseason. Yeah.
- 10:21Speaker 2: And my take on all of this is you mentioned
- 10:24Speaker 2: the postseason, and you know you're thinking about October, and
- 10:29Speaker 2: I'm telling you to forget all that because the playoffs
- 10:32Speaker 2: for the Phillies have started right now. They a couple
- 10:37Speaker 2: of days ago, they were in a tie for the
- 10:40Speaker 2: third wild card spot, right Yeah, basically one game out
- 10:45Speaker 2: of not being in the playoffs at all. Currently going
- 10:48Speaker 2: into tonight, they were a game up, they were in
- 10:51Speaker 2: the second wildcard spot, so technically they're in the playoffs,
- 10:54Speaker 2: but that's a very tenuous position right now. The Cubs
- 10:57Speaker 2: are in the number one spot coming into today for
- 11:00Speaker 2: the wild they have number one wild card and they
- 11:03Speaker 2: are six games ahead of the Phillies, five five or
- 11:06Speaker 2: six games ahead of the Phillies, and then everybody else underneath that.
- 11:09Speaker 2: But you look at the at the standings coming in,
- 11:11Speaker 2: the Phillies are in second, the Padres are a game
- 11:15Speaker 2: behind them, the Diamondbacks are only two games behind them.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Miami is only three games behind them, so they they
- 11:23Speaker 2: have to win i'm most.
- 11:25Speaker 3: Of their series. I think for the rest of the year.
- 11:27Speaker 2: They have to start playing playoff baseball right now, just
- 11:31Speaker 2: to make sure that they remain in the playoffs. Like
- 11:34Speaker 2: it's got to start coming together.
- 11:37Speaker 3: It has to happen now.
- 11:38Speaker 2: I mean, there's no more I know, typically a lot
- 11:41Speaker 2: of these teams to be like, oh, we get off
- 11:43Speaker 2: to a rough start and then we get going and
- 11:45Speaker 2: we just ease our way into the season. You are
- 11:48Speaker 2: well into the season. Now the urgency has to be there,
- 11:52Speaker 2: the play has to be there at this point. So
- 11:55Speaker 2: that's that's where I'm at. As far as what this
- 11:58Speaker 2: team is going forward, are going to do. You know,
- 12:02Speaker 2: those those three guys at the top of that rotation
- 12:05Speaker 2: need to pitch like you're in a playoff series and
- 12:08Speaker 2: can basically shut the door on most of these other teams.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Schwarber's got to continue hitting.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I like what I've seen a guy that's been maligned
- 12:17Speaker 2: for a lot of the year, Alec Bohm. So far
- 12:20Speaker 2: in I mean in August, I had the splits up. Yeah,
- 12:24Speaker 2: in August, he's hitting three sixty eight. He's got a
- 12:27Speaker 2: no ps a minine thirty one. He had a decent
- 12:30Speaker 2: he had a pretty good May. He's having a great August.
- 12:33Speaker 2: The entire rest of the year for him was has
- 12:36Speaker 2: been an absolute tire fire. So Alec Bohm, I think
- 12:40Speaker 2: to me, and he needs to keep this up because
- 12:43Speaker 2: he's playing for his next contract, whether it's in Philadelphia
- 12:46Speaker 2: or somewhere else. He's playing to get the best contract
- 12:50Speaker 2: he can for next year because this is the last
- 12:54Speaker 2: year of his deal here.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I don't know if we'll be back.
- 12:56Speaker 2: I would love to see them be able to upgrade
- 12:58Speaker 2: over him. But he's got to really kick it into
- 13:02Speaker 2: gear for the rest of the season and show teams. Hey,
- 13:05Speaker 2: I'm worth paying you know, next year whenever, you know,
- 13:10Speaker 2: all that stuff. So he's the guy that needs to
- 13:12Speaker 2: continue what he's doing. I'm not worried about Hartburn. Sure
- 13:18Speaker 2: where they're going to continue to do what they do.
- 13:19Speaker 2: I love what a Rise is done, you know, since
- 13:22Speaker 2: he's come to the team. I think, you know, for
- 13:25Speaker 2: a guy that profiles at the top of the order,
- 13:26Speaker 2: guy where they have him is not what I have done,
- 13:30Speaker 2: what I would have done, but I think it's great
- 13:32Speaker 2: hitting him clean up, letting him a guy that gets
- 13:35Speaker 2: on base, that gets hits. Yeah, I mean it makes
- 13:38Speaker 2: all the sense in the world. Put guys on base
- 13:40Speaker 2: in front of them, let him drive them in. I mean,
- 13:42Speaker 2: I again, it's not the conventional baseball you know, lineup,
- 13:46Speaker 2: but for what he does, it's smart.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Our friend of the show, John Staalmus, who was
- 13:52Speaker 1: on the show last week talking about this team. He
- 13:55Speaker 1: wrote a recent article on the Good Fight When and
- 13:59Speaker 1: he specifically the question is whether this new found offensive
- 14:02Speaker 1: efficiency is a lasting change or merely a weird three
- 14:07Speaker 1: week blip. When the pressure is on this October, will
- 14:11Speaker 1: the changes hold? Heck, will they hold into next week?
- 14:15Speaker 1: The Phillies are a dizzying group. That's what John said,
- 14:18Speaker 1: and it really goes to what Eric and I were
- 14:20Speaker 1: talking about last week also on the show, where Eric
- 14:22Speaker 1: was like, he was like, dude, I think they're going
- 14:25Speaker 1: to start on a hot streak, but will that hot
- 14:27Speaker 1: streak really, you know, provide that consistency that they need
- 14:32Speaker 1: or is it just going to be an inconsistent lineup?
- 14:34Speaker 1: Like again, like John was saying, is this going to
- 14:37Speaker 1: hold even into next week or so? So I think
- 14:39Speaker 1: that's the real question here that this new found offensive
- 14:43Speaker 1: efficiency that John was talking about talking about, is it
- 14:46Speaker 1: is it a lasting change or is it just a
- 14:48Speaker 1: blip on the blip on the radar here?
- 14:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean yeah, there, there's there's no reason it
- 14:54Speaker 2: can't be, you know, a lasting change. They've got all
- 14:58Speaker 2: the pieces in place in terms of talented guys, guys
- 15:01Speaker 2: that are making a lot of money, Guys that you know,
- 15:04Speaker 2: they're not babes in the woods here, They're they're well traveled,
- 15:07Speaker 2: you know, professional baseball players that have been doing this forever.
- 15:10Speaker 2: There should be nothing that comes in front of them
- 15:12Speaker 2: that's like I've never seen this before. So, I mean,
- 15:16Speaker 2: there there's no excuse, there's literally no excuse for this
- 15:20Speaker 2: team not to perform, and if they don't, I think
- 15:23Speaker 2: it's it's pretty damning.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Really quick, buddy, before I let you go, I just
- 15:29Speaker 1: I'm so concerned about the bullpen.
- 15:32Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that's the area that I mean is
- 15:36Speaker 2: flat out terrifying.
- 15:37Speaker 1: It really is. It's it's a great word. Terrifying is
- 15:40Speaker 1: absolutely the great war a great word. Coming into this season, man,
- 15:44Speaker 1: just how many months ago we were like, all right, man,
- 15:46Speaker 1: this bullpen seems like things are going to be okay.
- 15:49Speaker 1: They're going to be the solid piece of this team.
- 15:53Speaker 1: And now here in mid August, it's like, oh my gosh.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Yeah, brought you figured Okay, he's got the eighth and
- 16:00Speaker 2: then obviously you've got Duran for the ninth, and okay,
- 16:04Speaker 2: just figure out who the seventh inning guy is and
- 16:06Speaker 2: who your other guys are and where they soloted in
- 16:08Speaker 2: the bullpen and we're golden. And really I thought that
- 16:11Speaker 2: was gonna be, like you had said, perhaps the strongest
- 16:14Speaker 2: area of the team going in the season, and it's
- 16:17Speaker 2: just been yeah.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I got disappointing. Yeah.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's the point where you're like, oh God,
- 16:25Speaker 2: please give me, you know, out of the starters, please
- 16:26Speaker 2: give me seven or eight innings, like just you know,
- 16:29Speaker 2: and you know, you get that impending sense of doom
- 16:32Speaker 2: if they only go like five and a third or
- 16:34Speaker 2: something like that, It's like, Okay, we're never going to
- 16:37Speaker 2: get all these outs we need.
- 16:38Speaker 3: So yeah, it's it's.
- 16:42Speaker 2: I really am scared if they do make it to
- 16:44Speaker 2: the postseason that that is going to rear its ugly head.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Let us know your thoughts. If you're watching on YouTube,
- 16:50Speaker 1: leave us a comment below your thoughts on this Phillies bullpen.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Are you terrified like we are of what this bullpen
- 16:58Speaker 1: may or may not do during the course of the
- 17:00Speaker 1: rest of August tiers. We're even looking at September and
- 17:03Speaker 1: whether or not this Phillies team can actually make it
- 17:05Speaker 1: to the postseason as they are on the cusp of
- 17:08Speaker 1: a wild card spot here. So that being said, buddy,
- 17:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna let you go. We're gonna get into some
- 17:13Speaker 1: Eagles talk. Hey, you got you getting some fantasy football
- 17:17Speaker 1: leagues coming up here?
- 17:19Speaker 3: I have none.
- 17:21Speaker 1: How many?
- 17:22Speaker 3: How many are you doing?
- 17:24Speaker 1: Six?
- 17:26Speaker 2: Okay, So basically every every week you're gonna be like, oh, yeah,
- 17:30Speaker 2: I want this guy to do well. Oh wait, I
- 17:32Speaker 2: don't want him to do well because I have him
- 17:33Speaker 2: in when one league and I play him in two others,
- 17:36Speaker 2: I know I will never That's the thing about Like
- 17:40Speaker 2: I get fantasy football, I get playing it. I've played
- 17:42Speaker 2: in the past, but the whole thing of being in
- 17:45Speaker 2: a ton of different leagues and playing against your own players, and.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I know it's it's so self defeating. I don't know
- 17:53Speaker 3: why you do it.
- 17:54Speaker 2: On the list of things that I don't know why
- 17:57Speaker 2: you do it, that's pretty high up there.
- 18:00Speaker 1: A long list, right, it's a long list of things, right. Yeah.
- 18:05Speaker 1: My campaign manager is like, are you serious. He's like,
- 18:08Speaker 1: what is this on the schedule? What's this f F thing?
- 18:11Speaker 1: I go it's Fantasy football Draft. He's like, oh my god.
- 18:17Speaker 1: I mean and that's the thing. That's the other end.
- 18:20Speaker 2: It was like, you know, you're still a person, you
- 18:22Speaker 2: still have interest. Oh, absolutely, completely shut everything down.
- 18:26Speaker 1: But he goes, I've seen five of these. Yeah, okay,
- 18:29Speaker 1: another way.
- 18:31Speaker 2: That is where he has a rock solid point. There
- 18:33Speaker 2: should only be one of those.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Yes, all right, Well, I think you got to get
- 18:38Speaker 1: back into it, buddy.
- 18:39Speaker 3: I think you gotta.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I think moving and cheeking.
- 18:43Speaker 2: My recommendation to you would be to not hold your breath.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Okay, so that sounds good. I'll let you go, buddy, Luna,
- 18:51Speaker 1: if you're back there, my dear, h you're such a
- 18:54Speaker 1: good girl.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, she's back there, no longer showing her
- 18:58Speaker 2: blood hole off.
- 18:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I was gonna say she showed us our bunghole
- 19:01Speaker 1: for for a little bit. Was like, look at.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Me, yeah, tarting it up.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Yeah, got all right, buddy, I'm gonna let you go. Folks,
- 19:10Speaker 1: We're gonna take a break when we get back. Got
- 19:12Speaker 1: a lot of Eagles talk coming your way.
- 19:16Speaker 3: And now on the table.
- 19:21Speaker 1: There's a lot of excitement about this Philadelphia Eagles team
- 19:24Speaker 1: as we are honing in on and following a ton
- 19:27Speaker 1: of storylines within Eagles training camp. We saw our first
- 19:30Speaker 1: preseason game this past week, and and joining us to
- 19:33Speaker 1: get into this team into training camp what we're gonna
- 19:36Speaker 1: be seeing this season in more detail from inside the Eagles,
- 19:40Speaker 1: our good friend Anthony Miller. Anthony, Buddy, thanks so much
- 19:42Speaker 1: for taking the time to jump on here. Man's good
- 19:44Speaker 1: to see you again. Good to talk to you.
- 19:46Speaker 4: Yeah, thanks for having me on, Jeff appreciate it. Looking
- 19:47Speaker 4: forward to our conversation.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Yeah, we had a great conversation the last time you
- 19:51Speaker 1: were on a few months ago. I wanted to bring
- 19:52Speaker 1: you back just because there's so many eyes on this
- 19:55Speaker 1: Eagles team. As again, they're in the midst of training camp,
- 19:59Speaker 1: had the first preseason game. We've seen what some of
- 20:02Speaker 1: the depth on this team can and also cannot do.
- 20:05Speaker 1: At this point, we've seen some performances good, bad, kind
- 20:09Speaker 1: of neutral as well. But as we're looking at in
- 20:12Speaker 1: following these storylines here, Anthony, when it comes to this
- 20:16Speaker 1: Eagles team, when it comes to this upcoming season, I'm
- 20:19Speaker 1: wondering what is the biggest under the radar storyline at
- 20:22Speaker 1: the moment during Eagles training camp that you're really keeping
- 20:25Speaker 1: your eyes on. Here.
- 20:27Speaker 5: How impressed I am with the offensive line.
- 20:29Speaker 4: I think we had a lot of concerns about the
- 20:31Speaker 4: depth of the offensive line behind the starters.
- 20:33Speaker 5: We know how great the starters are, but we.
- 20:35Speaker 4: Just didn't know about the young guys and who was
- 20:37Speaker 4: gonna step up, you know about you know, behind the
- 20:39Speaker 4: main five and you know, like a guy that I
- 20:42Speaker 4: absolutely loved watching the tape on this weekend was Willie Lampkin.
- 20:45Speaker 4: I mean, this guy is yeah, ten, five, eleven and
- 20:48Speaker 4: he literally pushed a guy six yards down the field
- 20:51Speaker 4: and threw him another three yard. He was like, smokes, like,
- 20:55Speaker 4: this guy is really good, and I'm like, you know,
- 20:58Speaker 4: Drew Kendall is finally coming into it zone. Like, I
- 21:00Speaker 4: just felt like there was a lot of backup offensive
- 21:03Speaker 4: linemen that played really well. I mean, Jake Majors I think,
- 21:05Speaker 4: had a really good game too. So it's very encouraging
- 21:09Speaker 4: from you know, when you look at the offense, it
- 21:11Speaker 4: was pretty bad to watch on Saturday, but absolutely the
- 21:14Speaker 4: one bright spot was that offensive line was really good.
- 21:17Speaker 4: Now the back was really stepped up and played well,
- 21:20Speaker 4: and I think it's gonna make for a very tough
- 21:23Speaker 4: last couple of weeks for that coaching staff to try
- 21:25Speaker 4: to figure out who's you know, gonna end up getting
- 21:28Speaker 4: the jobs. But you know, credit to h Chris Cooper,
- 21:30Speaker 4: the the offensive coordinator. I think the are the offensive
- 21:33Speaker 4: line coach. I think there was a lot of concerns
- 21:35Speaker 4: about you know, him, Chris stepping in for Jeff Stoutlin
- 21:38Speaker 4: and how he was gonna do, and so far it's
- 21:41Speaker 4: been a really good positive, you know feedback from what
- 21:45Speaker 4: you know, what I've seen from the offensive line. So
- 21:47Speaker 4: I've been very impressed with it, and I think it's
- 21:49Speaker 4: gonna be interesting to see how the last couple of
- 21:51Speaker 4: weeks go with that group and with the offense in general.
- 21:54Speaker 1: I love that you started with this, Anthony, because over
- 21:57Speaker 1: these months, I think that we all have had that
- 22:01Speaker 1: concern about the offensive line, specifically the starting offensive line,
- 22:05Speaker 1: and what the health is going to look like, because look,
- 22:07Speaker 1: Lane Johnson misses games just about every single year at
- 22:10Speaker 1: this point within his career. We've had Cam Jurgens and
- 22:14Speaker 1: Landon Dickerson injured. I feel like, and my gosh, knock
- 22:17Speaker 1: on wood here that Jordan Mylotta, given his size, given
- 22:21Speaker 1: the intensity at which he plays the game, I hope
- 22:25Speaker 1: he doesn't get injured, but look, it happens. There are
- 22:28Speaker 1: injuries that happen all the time with offensive linemen. And
- 22:32Speaker 1: to see the depth play at the rate at which
- 22:35Speaker 1: they played in this first preseason game against Baltimore, like
- 22:39Speaker 1: you were saying, it was really really nice to see.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And we're gonna get into the offensive line in a
- 22:44Speaker 1: little bit too. But wanted to go through an exercise
- 22:47Speaker 1: with you here as where get in this discussion. Started
- 22:51Speaker 1: doing a stock up and stock down with a bunch
- 22:55Speaker 1: of players here and from what we are seeing during
- 22:57Speaker 1: training camp and even during the first preseason game here.
- 23:00Speaker 1: So we're gonna go through some of these guys right here.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Let me know if stock is up, stock is down,
- 23:06Speaker 1: even maybe if the stock is neutral with them, I
- 23:08Speaker 1: think we can do that as well. So let's start
- 23:11Speaker 1: with I'm actually want to go from a position standpoint,
- 23:14Speaker 1: the quarterback two position with Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee. Dude,
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm giving it stock down because, like you said, the
- 23:24Speaker 1: offense was horrendous during the first half. I mean for
- 23:27Speaker 1: basically three quarters, if not more, was horrendous during the
- 23:31Speaker 1: first preseason game. I'm giving quarterback two at this point
- 23:35Speaker 1: stock down. What are your thoughts here?
- 23:36Speaker 4: I mean, what was the financial crisis back in like
- 23:38Speaker 4: two thousand and eight. Yeah, I feel like that's a
- 23:41Speaker 4: KEP two position, Like it makes absolutely no sense. You
- 23:44Speaker 4: got Andy Dolton coming in, he knows the offensive game.
- 23:47Speaker 4: You got Tanner McKee, who's been really good the last
- 23:49Speaker 4: pay Tanner McKee looks looked better last year with Kevin
- 23:52Speaker 4: Platulo than he did in this offense. It's really worries.
- 23:56Speaker 4: I'm like, honestly, like I wrote, about this. I think
- 23:59Speaker 4: after the way Cole played, like, why are we not
- 24:01Speaker 4: giving him more looks at QB too? Like, I don't
- 24:04Speaker 4: think he should be the QB two. I'm not saying that,
- 24:06Speaker 4: but I think he earned the right to do that
- 24:08Speaker 4: because Andy Dolton and Tanner McKee are doing absolutely nothing
- 24:11Speaker 4: to win that job right now. So yeah, stock down
- 24:14Speaker 4: big time, majorly concerned about the backup job right now.
- 24:17Speaker 1: I'm absolutely with you. All right, let's move to the
- 24:19Speaker 1: offensive line. We're going to get into some offensive line
- 24:22Speaker 1: depth here. First up, Markel Bell. I mean he's been
- 24:25Speaker 1: talked about continuously during the course of camp. We did
- 24:29Speaker 1: see him during the first preseason game. MARKL. Bell. I
- 24:32Speaker 1: am thinking stock up from what we have seen of him, dude,
- 24:37Speaker 1: I mean, he really could be the quarter or the
- 24:39Speaker 1: quarter the right tackle of the future here. He really
- 24:42Speaker 1: could be.
- 24:42Speaker 4: Yeah, I think a stock up for him too. He's
- 24:44Speaker 4: looked really good. I thought he looked good in that
- 24:46Speaker 4: preseason game. He looks strong, he's bullying people around as well.
- 24:49Speaker 4: Set six foot nine frame. We were really hoping that
- 24:52Speaker 4: he would kind of be able to live up to,
- 24:54Speaker 4: you know, the size that he has and be able
- 24:55Speaker 4: to hold up his end of the bargain at the
- 24:57Speaker 4: right tackle position.
- 24:58Speaker 5: But you know, at first, when we after him, I
- 25:00Speaker 5: was like, I like him. I think he'd be a.
- 25:02Speaker 4: Good death piece, but I wasn't one hundred percent sure
- 25:04Speaker 4: if he was going to be the successor of Laine Johnson.
- 25:06Speaker 4: After what I've heard and what I've seen so far, like,
- 25:09Speaker 4: I'm more convinced, Like, Okay, I think if you give
- 25:12Speaker 4: him a year to sit behind Lane Johnson, maybe arguably
- 25:15Speaker 4: the greatest right tackle in NFL history, and learn from him,
- 25:17Speaker 4: I don't see why he can't improve, you know, you know,
- 25:21Speaker 4: developed this year and improve next year. I have a
- 25:24Speaker 4: lot of confidence. I think he could be the right
- 25:26Speaker 4: tackle of the future. So I really like what he's
- 25:27Speaker 4: done so far.
- 25:28Speaker 1: All right, let's stick with an offensive lineman here some depth.
- 25:33Speaker 1: We've seen him on the field before. We've seen him
- 25:35Speaker 1: as a starter when Lane Johnson was injured last year,
- 25:39Speaker 1: and that is Fred Johnson. I gotta be honest with
- 25:43Speaker 1: you here. As much as I have liked Fred Johnson,
- 25:45Speaker 1: I am actually going to give him a stock down here.
- 25:50Speaker 1: He was called for a holding penalty on the Eagles
- 25:53Speaker 1: opening drive, and we know that he's had somewhat of
- 25:56Speaker 1: a call it a shaky camp thus far. His his
- 26:02Speaker 1: fight that he had with Moro Jomo at the end
- 26:05Speaker 1: of last Thursday's practice. I think there's some real competition
- 26:10Speaker 1: for him, in particular with regard to where he really
- 26:14Speaker 1: fits in with the offensive line. I think, yes, he
- 26:16Speaker 1: is a good depth piece and he has proven that.
- 26:19Speaker 1: But I still think stockdown based on where we're at
- 26:22Speaker 1: right now. I don't know. I could be wrong here.
- 26:23Speaker 1: What are you thinking.
- 26:25Speaker 4: I'm gonna go neutral on it. I don't think he
- 26:27Speaker 4: hasn't had a great camp. I don't think it's been
- 26:29Speaker 4: horrible either. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the
- 26:31Speaker 4: doubt because he has been a very reliable backup, like
- 26:33Speaker 4: when I know he stepped in for jordanman a lot
- 26:36Speaker 4: a few years ago a left tackle. He stepped in
- 26:38Speaker 4: for Lane Johnson last year by tackle like he's a
- 26:40Speaker 4: good swing tackle.
- 26:41Speaker 5: He's a reliable guy that you can count on.
- 26:43Speaker 4: He won't be great, but he'll hold up his end
- 26:45Speaker 4: of the bargain, like even last year, like when he
- 26:47Speaker 4: stepped in for Lane Johnson. He wasn't great, but I
- 26:50Speaker 4: think he did hold up his own at the position.
- 26:53Speaker 4: So yeah, I don't think he's had a great camp either,
- 26:55Speaker 4: but I'm kind of neutral on it.
- 26:57Speaker 5: I trust him.
- 26:58Speaker 4: I think he's a good veteran, yeah, and step in
- 27:00Speaker 4: whenever he needs to. So I'll give him the benefit
- 27:03Speaker 4: of the doubt and say, like he'll get better and
- 27:05Speaker 4: if he needs to get called on, I do trust
- 27:07Speaker 4: that he can.
- 27:07Speaker 5: Get the job done.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Okay, next up, and we got a few more here,
- 27:10Speaker 1: We're gonna go Hollywood Brown. I'm actually gonna be going
- 27:14Speaker 1: stock down just because of the fact that he is
- 27:16Speaker 1: a veteran, hasn't really done much to differentiate himself as
- 27:21Speaker 1: a go to wide receiver perhaps within this new wide
- 27:24Speaker 1: receiver room. I'm going stock down with him. What are
- 27:27Speaker 1: your thoughts here, Anthony?
- 27:28Speaker 5: I am stocked down one hundred percent with him too.
- 27:30Speaker 4: I you know, he the chemistry between him and Jalen
- 27:32Speaker 4: Hurts is not there right now to the point where
- 27:35Speaker 4: they're now working out with each other afterwards, trying to
- 27:38Speaker 4: get routes down, like there was two days in a
- 27:40Speaker 4: row where Jalen Hurts through an interception or they were
- 27:43Speaker 4: you know, off key because him and Hollywood Brown on
- 27:46Speaker 4: the same page.
- 27:46Speaker 5: That can't happen.
- 27:47Speaker 4: I mean Hollywood Brown was brought in to be the
- 27:49Speaker 4: speed guy, to get you know, to be the deep
- 27:51Speaker 4: threat and get those big pass plays down the field,
- 27:53Speaker 4: and that's just not happening right now at a consistent level.
- 27:57Speaker 4: Like I, I honestly think like Elijah is having a
- 28:00Speaker 4: better camp than around. Like I know, he's not gonna
- 28:04Speaker 4: get cut, but I think there needs to be a
- 28:06Speaker 4: serious conversation about whether Hollywood Brown should make this team
- 28:09Speaker 4: or not. Because Darius Cooper is having a great camp,
- 28:11Speaker 4: you know, Don Davies Wicks is having a great camp.
- 28:13Speaker 4: I just feel like there's a lot of other receivers
- 28:15Speaker 4: that are having a much better camp than him. And
- 28:17Speaker 4: I was hoping he would step up with Makay Lemon
- 28:19Speaker 4: being injured and out, but.
- 28:20Speaker 5: He just hasn't.
- 28:21Speaker 4: So he'll be lucky if he gets playing time at
- 28:25Speaker 4: this point from you know what's been talked about so far.
- 28:28Speaker 1: All right, let's move on to a defensive back, and
- 28:31Speaker 1: specifically a cornerback. Somebody has been on this team for
- 28:34Speaker 1: some time. It has been my hope that he would develop.
- 28:37Speaker 1: But I think when we look at Keeley Ringo, we
- 28:41Speaker 1: are seeing who we're seeing in various ways. He can
- 28:44Speaker 1: be a good player every now and then, he can
- 28:46Speaker 1: also be a liability on the field. I mean, I'm
- 28:50Speaker 1: gonna kind of go neutral with him here. You know,
- 28:53Speaker 1: we had he had that holding call in the UH
- 28:57Speaker 1: in the first preseason game. It was a rough holding call.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Then he came up with a very impressive interception in
- 29:03Speaker 1: the back of the end zone that really really flashed
- 29:06Speaker 1: some elite physical traits that I think maybe could potentially
- 29:10Speaker 1: make him UH part of this fifty three man roster
- 29:15Speaker 1: here Anthony, But again, his ceiling has just never been high,
- 29:20Speaker 1: and being a veteran in this league thus far, I've
- 29:24Speaker 1: kind of been a little disappointed with him. I'm gonna
- 29:26Speaker 1: go stock neutral here with kiey Ringo. What are your thoughts?
- 29:30Speaker 4: I am If there is a Kieley Ringo hate fan club,
- 29:34Speaker 4: I would be the president of it. I never liked him,
- 29:38Speaker 4: you know, the way he has played the last couple
- 29:39Speaker 4: of years, Like at six foot six foot two, like
- 29:42Speaker 4: he should he should be doing what like Greek Woolin's
- 29:45Speaker 4: been able to do, but he just hasn't. Yeah, I'm
- 29:47Speaker 4: actually gonna go neutral. Also as much as like I
- 29:50Speaker 4: feel like you Jingo should be cut. He's very lucky.
- 29:54Speaker 4: He got that interception, otherwise there would be no way.
- 29:57Speaker 5: He makes this team.
- 29:58Speaker 4: But like mac mcwill wiams had a much worse game
- 30:01Speaker 4: than Kiey Ringo did in the preseason game. So like,
- 30:04Speaker 4: I think Mack mcgilliams looked like the worst corner out there,
- 30:07Speaker 4: and he was a guy that I thought was gonna
- 30:08Speaker 4: make the roster. I don't know if he does anymore
- 30:10Speaker 4: because he looked terrible in that Ravens game. So I think,
- 30:13Speaker 4: like the fault, Ringo is maybe gonna make the roster.
- 30:16Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 30:17Speaker 4: He's a great special teams guy, but ye as a corner,
- 30:19Speaker 4: he's just horrendous to watch. But I'll go neutral just
- 30:22Speaker 4: to give him the benefit out because he did get
- 30:24Speaker 4: the interception, so I'll give him a pass on it.
- 30:26Speaker 4: But I still think he should be cut from this team,
- 30:28Speaker 4: Like I.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Don't know where the last few years, I honestly so
- 30:31Speaker 1: have I but like because of that interception, that's why
- 30:34Speaker 1: I went neutral with it to last but not least,
- 30:38Speaker 1: and before we have to go to a break are Bernard,
- 30:42Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on him? I mean, he's being
- 30:45Speaker 1: so hyped in terms of the type of athlete that
- 30:49Speaker 1: he is and he should be for his athleticism, had
- 30:52Speaker 1: some rough had some rough times on the field during
- 30:54Speaker 1: his first preseason game. I'm gonna go neutral here with
- 30:58Speaker 1: are Bernard. I'm wondering what the expectation really should be
- 31:03Speaker 1: for him. What are your thoughts here? Stock up or
- 31:05Speaker 1: stock down or stock neutral.
- 31:07Speaker 4: I think it's unfair to put stock down just because
- 31:09Speaker 4: that was his first football game ever.
- 31:11Speaker 5: I'm going to go neutral.
- 31:12Speaker 4: He played very high with his shoulder pads throughout the game,
- 31:16Speaker 4: which is why he was getting pushed up and not
- 31:18Speaker 4: really able to get much penetration.
- 31:20Speaker 5: He maybe had one or two plays where like you can.
- 31:22Speaker 4: See the potentially like okay, like he can he can
- 31:25Speaker 4: do this, he can't do it, but he's just so
- 31:27Speaker 4: fresh and so new. I mean, I still have the
- 31:30Speaker 4: belief that, like the physical abilities that he has, the
- 31:33Speaker 4: speed that he has, like this guy could be a
- 31:35Speaker 4: freaking nature, but it is going to take a year
- 31:37Speaker 4: or two for him to get into the flow of
- 31:40Speaker 4: the game. So I'm gonna go neutral just to be
- 31:42Speaker 4: fair with him. But yeah, he didn't have the greatest
- 31:45Speaker 4: preseason game, but I think there is potential there with him.
- 31:48Speaker 1: All Right, very good if you're watching on YouTube. Leave
- 31:50Speaker 1: us a comment below, what are your thoughts stock up
- 31:53Speaker 1: stock down on any of the players that we just mentioned,

- 31:58Speaker 1: that we did not mention, we'd love to hear from you.

- 32:24Speaker 4: Anthony Miller. You can just follow us on on our
- 32:27Speaker 4: X page for Inside the Eagles at Inside Eagles And yeah,
- 32:32Speaker 4: I mean just hit me up anytime. You can tag
- 32:33Speaker 4: me and stuff, and you know we'll be posting great stuff.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Absolutely, you do a lot of great posting, a lot
- 32:39Speaker 1: of great content over it Inside the Eagles. And as
- 32:41Speaker 1: we're moving along with our conversation here, Jalen Hurts has
- 32:46Speaker 1: probably thrown more interceptions in this camp than any other
- 32:49Speaker 1: camp in practice in the past, and many of these
- 32:52Speaker 1: interceptions are over the middle of the field, and yes,
- 32:55Speaker 1: we it's preseason, it's camp, it's practice, folks, you know,
- 32:58Speaker 1: let's we need to pump the brakes a little bit here,
- 33:01Speaker 1: especially the Hurts aids that are out there. But Anthony,
- 33:06Speaker 1: so many of us over the years have been wanting
- 33:08Speaker 1: to see Jalen Hurts throwing over the middle of the field,
- 33:11Speaker 1: and this coming season, yes, it seems like that is
- 33:13Speaker 1: likely going to be happening more often than not in
- 33:16Speaker 1: the Sean Manyon offense. A lot of us have been
- 33:18Speaker 1: clamoring for it. Do you think this could potentially be
- 33:21Speaker 1: a problem for him this coming season? Or again, is
- 33:24Speaker 1: this just practice, trying to make something happen, perhaps really
- 33:27Speaker 1: just pushing himself here? What are your thoughts here on
- 33:30Speaker 1: this narrative?
- 33:31Speaker 5: I mean I like it.
- 33:32Speaker 4: I mean last year he didn't throw I don't remember
- 33:35Speaker 4: recording that he throw as many interceptions in Kevin Patul's offense.
- 33:38Speaker 4: But Kevin Patulo's offense was so vanilla and playing with
- 33:41Speaker 4: five million hitch routes that it was impossible for him
- 33:44Speaker 4: to throw an interception. So I actually don't mind it.
- 33:47Speaker 4: It look he's showing a willingness to try something new
- 33:50Speaker 4: and try to get used to throwing in the middle
- 33:53Speaker 4: of the field and taking shots.
- 33:54Speaker 5: Like we know he's a.
- 33:55Speaker 4: Good deep ball quarterback and he can make the throws
- 33:58Speaker 4: when he needs to. This is just something new for him,
- 34:01Speaker 4: and I think it shows his willingness to be able
- 34:04Speaker 4: to try different things. So I would rather him throw
- 34:06Speaker 4: a bunch of interceptions in training camp and just trying
- 34:08Speaker 4: to get a feel for it. I mean understand, like
- 34:11Speaker 4: his wide receiving course pretty much all new, so he's
- 34:14Speaker 4: got to build chemistry with these guys like really outside
- 34:17Speaker 4: of like Davonte Smith, Johnny Wilson and Darius Cooper, like
- 34:20Speaker 4: everyone else's brand new. So yeah, it's going to take
- 34:23Speaker 4: time to build that chemistry, and that's what training camp's for.
- 34:25Speaker 5: So I'm not worried about him.
- 34:27Speaker 4: I think he'll still be Okay, Well, we throw more
- 34:29Speaker 4: picks in last year.
- 34:30Speaker 5: I think it's gonna be bound to happen. I think
- 34:32Speaker 5: it may be a little bit more like what happened
- 34:34Speaker 5: with you know o C. Brian Johnson back in twenty
- 34:36Speaker 5: twenty three.
- 34:37Speaker 4: But I still think that this is this is good
- 34:40Speaker 4: process for him, even though it looks.
- 34:41Speaker 5: Like a negative.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I love seeing him thrown over the middle here I
- 34:45Speaker 1: really do. I mean, he's continually talking about how he
- 34:48Speaker 1: wants to make sure that he's still learning, how he
- 34:51Speaker 1: is still developing as a quarterback as well. Yes he's
- 34:54Speaker 1: won the Super Bowl, Yes he was the Super Bowl MVP.
- 34:57Speaker 1: But Jalen Hurts is always that guy that is willing
- 34:59Speaker 1: to learn, wants to actually do more, and always wanting
- 35:04Speaker 1: to like get his fingernails dirty. And I love that
- 35:06Speaker 1: about him, I really do. And yes, sometimes he can
- 35:08Speaker 1: be frustrating on the field. Sometimes the decision making can
- 35:11Speaker 1: be frustrating. But man, Anthony, all I want to see
- 35:15Speaker 1: are some mesh concepts here. That's all I want to
- 35:17Speaker 1: see is some like mesh concepts and him being able
- 35:20Speaker 1: to get get the ball to a receiver over the
- 35:23Speaker 1: middle and a mesh concept. I'm gonna go crazy when
- 35:25Speaker 1: I'm watching it if I see that, I really will. Yeah.
- 35:29Speaker 4: I mean last year he was just playing is so
- 35:31Speaker 4: safe with the ball, and that was frustrating because everyone
- 35:33Speaker 4: knows he can throw a great deep ball and he
- 35:35Speaker 4: had aj Brown and DeVante Smith and he just didn't
- 35:37Speaker 4: utilize it as often.
- 35:38Speaker 5: Whether that's on him or Kevin Patulo, who knows, but you.
- 35:42Speaker 4: Know, at least this time around, he's got a plethora
- 35:44Speaker 4: of like different types of receivers, which makes some more
- 35:46Speaker 4: exciting offense that.
- 35:48Speaker 5: Yeah, he's got a.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Tall receiver in Wix that can you know, go up
- 35:51Speaker 4: there in goal line situation.
- 35:52Speaker 5: He got Dvonte Smith that can do it all. You
- 35:54Speaker 5: got Darius Cooper.
- 35:55Speaker 4: He's got strong hands like aj Brown, you got melch
- 35:58Speaker 4: Makaie Lemon. Who can you know be that you know,
- 36:01Speaker 4: short receiver that can couch the short routes, you know
- 36:04Speaker 4: the ground that's a deep threat. So he's got so
- 36:06Speaker 4: many different weapons and so many different types of receivers
- 36:09Speaker 4: that he can do a lot in this offense.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Absolutely, all right. I want to move to another player
- 36:15Speaker 1: right now who I think has really been under utilized
- 36:17Speaker 1: since he has been on this Eagles team, which hasn't
- 36:19Speaker 1: been too long. I want to get into this running
- 36:22Speaker 1: back room, specifically Tank Bigsby. When given opportunities last season,
- 36:27Speaker 1: as we know, he absolutely flourished. He made the most
- 36:30Speaker 1: of those opportunities. Anthony, So I'm wondering, how do you
- 36:33Speaker 1: think Tank Bigsby should be utilized this upcoming season within
- 36:37Speaker 1: this new Seawan Mannon offense.
- 36:39Speaker 4: I had no idea because he only got two carries
- 36:41Speaker 4: in the preseason game. Yeah, that already frustrated me enough
- 36:44Speaker 4: when I was like, come on, like this dude is starting,
- 36:46Speaker 4: like let's get him some carries. So I'm already kind
- 36:49Speaker 4: of worried about how they're going to use him. But
- 36:50Speaker 4: I mean you use him like you do Saquon Barkley. Like,
- 36:53Speaker 4: I really do think Tank Bixby should be getting ten
- 36:55Speaker 4: to fifteen carries a game. You know, from all indication
- 36:59Speaker 4: of training camp does down like the running backs are
- 37:01Speaker 4: going to be more involved in the passing game. So
- 37:03Speaker 4: do you involve Tank Bigsby more and catching you know,
- 37:05Speaker 4: passes out of the backfield and get him out on
- 37:07Speaker 4: wheel routes or something like that.
- 37:09Speaker 5: I love to see that out of him.
- 37:11Speaker 4: I mean, he's got breakaway speed when you give him
- 37:13Speaker 4: the opportunity to do so. So I'd love to see,
- 37:16Speaker 4: you know, more versatility out of him. And you know, honestly,
- 37:18Speaker 4: I just won him on the field. I'm not saying
- 37:21Speaker 4: he's just split carries with Saquon Barkley, but I wouldn't mind,
- 37:24Speaker 4: you know, if Barkley gets fifteen twenty carries and Tank
- 37:27Speaker 4: Bigsby gets ten to twelve.
- 37:28Speaker 5: Carries a game. Yeah, I think that would be super ideal.
- 37:31Speaker 4: They kind of take the load off of Barkley and
- 37:33Speaker 4: mtch really utilize Tank Bigsby because this dude at five
- 37:36Speaker 4: point nine yards per carry last year with the Eagles,
- 37:38Speaker 4: like we should be putting him out on the field
- 37:40Speaker 4: more often.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Absolutely, I completely agree with you, and I think you know,
- 37:43Speaker 1: as Saquan's getting older, and yes he has had specific
- 37:47Speaker 1: injuries when he was on New York Giants, really you know,
- 37:50Speaker 1: making sure that you know he is going to be
- 37:52Speaker 1: fresh towards the end of the year when they're absolutely
- 37:55Speaker 1: going to need him. I don't think eight to ten
- 37:57Speaker 1: carries from Tank Bigsby on the game by game basis
- 38:01Speaker 1: is gonna hurt this team by any stretch of the imagination.
- 38:04Speaker 1: In fact, I really do think that it could help
- 38:07Speaker 1: as well. But you know something that you talked about
- 38:09Speaker 1: earlier that I want to get back into a little
- 38:11Speaker 1: bit with regard to the Eagles offensive line. We talked
- 38:15Speaker 1: about Markel Bell Fred Johnson earlier from a depth perspective,
- 38:19Speaker 1: but I've really been thinking, Anthony about what this Eagles
- 38:23Speaker 1: offense may look like without Lane Johnson after next season.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Life without Lane But also how things may look without
- 38:31Speaker 1: having you know, Jeff Staltlin around to be the leader
- 38:35Speaker 1: of this unit. And you kind of referenced that a
- 38:37Speaker 1: little bit earlier as well, because Jeff Stoutlin's been able
- 38:40Speaker 1: to take guys like Jordan Mylatta, whether it was Fred
- 38:43Speaker 1: Johnson and the very very serviceable play that he provided
- 38:48Speaker 1: the offensive line when Lane Johnson and my Lotta were out,
- 38:51Speaker 1: as you referenced earlier. I'm just wondering your thoughts on
- 38:56Speaker 1: what we may be seeing with the offensive line this
- 38:58Speaker 1: season from a scheme standpoint, that schematic standpoint, and where
- 39:02Speaker 1: this unit may actually be heading in the future, because
- 39:04Speaker 1: I think a lot of US Eagles fans have been
- 39:06Speaker 1: really spoiled with an amazing offensive line for so many years.
- 39:12Speaker 1: It's been such a long time we haven't had these
- 39:15Speaker 1: challenges to really think about. So I don't know what
- 39:18Speaker 1: are your thoughts here with this narrative and storyline.
- 39:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I feel more positively about the offensive
- 39:23Speaker 4: line than in the past, and you know, I like
- 39:25Speaker 4: the scheme that's been brought. I mean, Lane Johnson talked
- 39:28Speaker 4: about it months ago where he said, like the scheme
- 39:30Speaker 4: is actually going to be more beneficial for him, just
- 39:32Speaker 4: because he's not going to be isolated and having to
- 39:35Speaker 4: hold his own at the right tackle position. Yeah, the
- 39:38Speaker 4: scheme is more set up to have more double teams
- 39:41Speaker 4: and more help from the guard and center positions. So
- 39:44Speaker 4: especially for Lane Johnson, as I know you talked you
- 39:47Speaker 4: talked about it earlier, Like this guy probably misses two three
- 39:49Speaker 4: games a year now on a consistent basis, you know,
- 39:52Speaker 4: leaves multiple games a year because he's got you know,
- 39:55Speaker 4: foot in lower leg injuries. I think this will be
- 39:58Speaker 4: beneficial for him to have made Tyler Stein step up
- 40:01Speaker 4: a little bit more and help him in you know,
- 40:03Speaker 4: doing double teams and helping him on the.
- 40:05Speaker 5: Right side of the offensive line.
- 40:07Speaker 4: And you know, like I also, you know, the Eagles
- 40:09Speaker 4: are going to utilize two tight end sets. So I
- 40:12Speaker 4: think Johnny mund Is, I think is going to be
- 40:13Speaker 4: a really big factor. Dallas godd Is going to play
- 40:15Speaker 4: a factor as well, to be able to kind of
- 40:17Speaker 4: help with run blocking schemes and that zone run you know,
- 40:20Speaker 4: that zone scheme that they want to run a little
- 40:22Speaker 4: bit more with the running game. So I think it's
- 40:25Speaker 4: gonna be beneficial. Hopefully it will help kind of cut
- 40:27Speaker 4: down the injuries. Of the offensive line because it will
- 40:30Speaker 4: kind of me lean a little bit more on multiple
- 40:32Speaker 4: guys helping out instead of just hoping on the isolation
- 40:36Speaker 4: that they'll be fine. So yeah, I think they will
- 40:38Speaker 4: protect Jordan Monolada for the future because I do worry
- 40:41Speaker 4: too that he'll eventually get to the point with his
- 40:43Speaker 4: side that he's going to start getting injured a lot too.
- 40:45Speaker 4: But I think it's going to help Lane Johnson get
- 40:47Speaker 4: through this, you know, what looks like to be his
- 40:49Speaker 4: final season in the NFL and hopefully kind of produced
- 40:51Speaker 4: the amount of times he's taking hits and you know,
- 40:54Speaker 4: help him and you know Tyler Steen out as well.
- 40:57Speaker 4: And then I think for Mark hel Bell this will
- 40:58Speaker 4: help him in the future as well as he trying
- 41:01Speaker 4: to takes over that right tackle position hopefully protects him
- 41:04Speaker 4: as well.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't wait to see what happens with this
- 41:07Speaker 1: offensive line and even where the depth goes during the
- 41:10Speaker 1: course of the preseason. Because these guys are getting older,
- 41:13Speaker 1: they are often injured as well. And without Jeff Staltland there,
- 41:18Speaker 1: we've been so used to him, and you know Stoutland
- 41:22Speaker 1: University just taken over and making talent into some superstar talent.
- 41:28Speaker 1: So that being said, Buddy, before I let you go,
- 41:32Speaker 1: I want to talk about a specific defensive player that
- 41:35Speaker 1: I think we're gonna need to see a little bit
- 41:36Speaker 1: more of. And I think that this Eagles team and
- 41:40Speaker 1: the defense are really going to miss Nakobe Dean this season.
- 41:44Speaker 1: And look, I think Jihad Campbell is going to be
- 41:46Speaker 1: a very good linebacker in the future. But man, Nacobe
- 41:50Speaker 1: Dean just brought an intensity that I hope can be
- 41:53Speaker 1: replicated by Jihad Campbell in his second season. I'm not
- 41:57Speaker 1: sure if he's gonna get to that point, but the
- 42:00Speaker 1: hope is obviously there. What are your thoughts on how
- 42:02Speaker 1: Jihad Campbell may developed this coming season into this really
- 42:06Speaker 1: critical role on the field. What are your thoughts here?
- 42:10Speaker 4: So I'm gonna slightly disagree with you. I liked Campbell.
- 42:12Speaker 4: I think he is developing the way he needs to.
- 42:15Speaker 4: I thought he had a really good rookie season. It
- 42:17Speaker 4: wasn't perfect, but you very sure he can get better
- 42:19Speaker 4: throughout the year. And I think getting that experience at
- 42:21Speaker 4: the beginning of the year, replacing the Kobe Dean and
- 42:23Speaker 4: getting in the starting lineup was actually good for him.
- 42:26Speaker 4: It wasn't perfect. But I think him getting those reps
- 42:29Speaker 4: was actually beneficial for him. And I'll say this, I
- 42:32Speaker 4: have a lot of respect.
- 42:33Speaker 5: For Nacobe Dean.
- 42:34Speaker 4: I agree with you, like the way they use him
- 42:36Speaker 4: on blitzes and pressuring the quarterback like he was probably
- 42:38Speaker 4: the best blitzing linebacker on the Eagles last year. But
- 42:42Speaker 4: I need somebody who's gonna be more available. And I'm actually,
- 42:45Speaker 4: I'll actually say I'm more excited about Jeremiah Trotter Junior
- 42:48Speaker 4: than I am a Jahad Campbell. There you go, Okay,
- 42:51Speaker 4: We're finally gonna get Trotter on the field on defense
- 42:54Speaker 4: on a consistent basis this year. He's been a backup
- 42:57Speaker 4: for the last couple of years, and I think he
- 42:59Speaker 4: was even ready to be a arder last year. I
- 43:01Speaker 4: would like to see Trotter a lot more. I would
- 43:03Speaker 4: like to see him and Campbell rotate in because I
- 43:06Speaker 4: think Trotter's got great potential to be a good starting
- 43:10Speaker 4: linebacker in this league and be a rotational guy for
- 43:13Speaker 4: the Eagles for a long time. So, like we all know,
- 43:15Speaker 4: Zach Bond's going to do his thing, But I really
- 43:17Speaker 4: love what I've seen out of Trotter, especially you know,
- 43:20Speaker 4: last year going into this year, I thought it looked great.
- 43:22Speaker 4: In the preseason game, he was definitely the standout on defense. Like,
- 43:26Speaker 4: get him and Campbell rotating in, and I think both
- 43:29Speaker 4: guys are going to be just fine. I really like
- 43:31Speaker 4: where the linebacker corps was. And I was actually okay
- 43:34Speaker 4: with Dean leaving because I'm not paying him thirteen million
- 43:36Speaker 4: a year just to be out five six games this season. Like,
- 43:40Speaker 4: let's get Trotter and Campbell developing and get them in.
- 43:42Speaker 5: Those are gonna be two young guys that.
- 43:44Speaker 4: Are probably gonna be in this on this defense for
- 43:46Speaker 4: the next three or four years.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Great points, great points, and man, I wish we could
- 43:51Speaker 1: talk more, but we gotta get going here again, folks.
- 43:54Speaker 1: He is Anthony Miller from Inside the Eagles. Search him
- 43:57Speaker 1: out on the Twitter, slash and some other social sites

- 44:05Speaker 1: Is great talking to you. I'm hoping we can talk
- 44:08Speaker 1: at some other point in the future because love our
- 44:11Speaker 1: conversations and this Eagles team I think is going to
- 44:14Speaker 1: be doing some special things. So let's talk again at
- 44:16Speaker 1: some point down the road. I'd love to do it.
- 44:18Speaker 5: Awesome. Thank you, Jeff, I appreciate.
