Latest / WASD and Beyond / Episode 221: Remasters, Remakes, Reimagining, oh my!
Transcript
- 0:14It's very cool. We like conglomerations.
- 0:18We like conglomerations a lot on the show.
- 0:21Yeah, Yeah. Yeah, yeah, boot lickers, if you
- 0:25will. Who's a boob licker?
- 0:28I said boot I mean. What am I?
- 0:31What am I thinking about? You know what I'm thinking about
- 0:37starting the show. All that too, but I'm thinking
- 0:40about starting the show. Welcome back to WASD and beyond,
- 0:43everybody. We are your hosts and we are
- 0:46triumphantly back. I am Nick and this is Brody.
- 0:49We are back to form video games. A lot of our video game audience
- 0:54probably like there's a lot of horror movies going on right
- 0:56now. I know we've had a lot of
- 0:59listen. It gets clicks.
- 1:02We didn't. It does.
- 1:05We did, but we didn't know that carving this little, it came
- 1:08from screen box show with Noah and Alex was going to send my
- 1:11ass to California with Noah. It's crazy video games have
- 1:16still yet to send me fuck off. We, we do have the option to go
- 1:21to PAX every year. Our schedule has not PAX East,
- 1:26our schedule is not aligned with that.
- 1:28So hopefully soon we can go to taxis because then I could be
- 1:32like, hey, it's also for work for me.
- 1:34There you go. Yeah, it would be technically,
- 1:36I'm just, they would be like, yeah, go, I guess.
- 1:40Say you're working. I'd be like, OK, cool.
- 1:45But yeah, guys, before we get into it, we are sponsored by
- 1:47Final Boss. Please check them out.
- 1:50They just are now getting the Belmont drop.
- 1:53It looks so fucking good, dude. It looks so good.
- 1:59Got some new drops coming from them soon.
- 2:01I'm thinking they're going to be final Boss is going to be in the
- 2:04States in September. I thought I saw you post
- 2:08something about that. Texas and Kansas.
- 2:13Why? I think the boss, their partner
- 2:20has family in Kansas, in Texas, one of the two.
- 2:24So that's where they go. But you know, I know the first
- 2:27time when they were here, he was like, hey, like, so you know,
- 2:32you're in Michigan and I'm in Texas.
- 2:33Like, let's meet up. And I'm like, I was like.
- 2:37By the time I hit Texas, I would be almost halfway.
- 2:41Well, see, The thing is like I remember being going to
- 2:43Texarkana with Claw. My dad just straight up just
- 2:46call him Claude. You know, man, that's, that's a
- 2:49sore spot for me. But we we got there in a day,
- 2:53like all the way to Texarkana because he didn't stop.
- 2:55He was. Going to say you have to drive a
- 2:57day. Yeah, so we got to like
- 2:59Texarkana, but like, man, that sucked.
- 3:03So like when I was talking to Eric, I was like, yeah, it's
- 3:07states are he finally was like, your country's huge.
- 3:12Yeah. He's like, this is huge, like
- 3:16insane. So yeah, I mean, like if you are
- 3:19in the Kansas and Texas area, go say hi to the boss, Hit, hit,
- 3:23hit him up, see, see what? Hang out, take him to some
- 3:27shops, go shopping, get some video games.
- 3:30I am going to try to meet him up in Kansas, I think.
- 3:33Oh, nice. Oh yeah.
- 3:35Why not you know we're going to we're Nixon is traveling arc in
- 3:39his 30s now. So let's let's I hear I did that
- 3:44when I was what, in my 20s? Now I'm doing it again, but
- 3:47that's fine. So yeah, we final boss Doc Longy
- 3:50go check them out. Links down below.
- 3:52Check out our other shows. It came from Screambox.
- 3:55That show is sponsored by Screambox itself.
- 3:57Scream at their movies, not their prices for use code SB38
- 4:01with to get it for 38 bucks a year.
- 4:04And then also check out rule for deception.
- 4:07Also, by the way, that's me and Noah and Alex's horror movie
- 4:10show. It came from Screambox.
- 4:11Check that out. Rule for deception.
- 4:12Brody, why don't you go ahead and take that one?
- 4:15Yeah, it's a D&D podcast. We just, it's a handful of
- 4:18people from the Discord and and Nick even, and we just played
- 4:24D&D. I've got two parties running
- 4:27right now in the same world. It does have its own feed, so
- 4:30you will not find it in WASD and beyond feed you will actually
- 4:35have to search for a role for deception.
- 4:36But yeah, we, we, they used to be a little bit longer.
- 4:40We're kind of, we're tightening things up so, but not a ton of
- 4:44editing. It is an actual play show.
- 4:46So yeah, it's fun and very sporadic on the schedule, so.
- 4:52Well your work schedule doesn't help for anything for your
- 4:55personal life or anything else. So wish we had time to stream
- 4:59the the the play throughs. Yeah, I mean.
- 5:03Good we could we? We might look into it.
- 5:07Who's the poor fuck we could saddle with that?
- 5:10Unfortunately, it's going to be me because I'm the only one
- 5:13that's there on both sides. Nice.
- 5:16Nice. Nice.
- 5:18Yeah, we'll look into it. Yeah, well, we've got to figure
- 5:20out a way to make it look pretty and all that shit, so.
- 5:22It gives Brody more work all the time.
- 5:24Yeah, it's fine. And stress.
- 5:27So, Brody. Yes.
- 5:31Battlefield 6 betas out, bub. I know after we're done
- 5:34recording tonight, I am going directly to that so.
- 5:38We are going to get right into this episode.
- 5:41Hurry the fuck I'm just kidding. From what I'm hearing is
- 5:45everything seems to be good. Granted there was a lot of good
- 5:48conversation when 2042 had its beta and everybody was pretty
- 5:51stoked on that, and then they found out all of the cool parts
- 5:54were in that beta. But I know Evan played a game
- 5:59this morning and I'm sure he's played more since then, but.
- 6:03He seems. He seems pretty stoked on it.
- 6:06I'm really, really excited. I I want what a good
- 6:09Battlefield. So fucking bad.
- 6:11Out of out of all of the multiplayer shooters, I don't
- 6:14give a fuck about COD. I typically play that just
- 6:16'cause I have some buddies that play it and so it's just
- 6:18something to play with them, right?
- 6:21Yeah. I mean, I, I play a lot of
- 6:23Marvel Rivals right now, but if Battlefield is good, that'll
- 6:26fucking go out the window. Let's be really honest.
- 6:29I can tell you right now from my two matches played, it's a blast
- 6:34so. We back to the.
- 6:37Pardon me, I got an ear thing going on and it's leaking into
- 6:40the back of my throat and it's getting caught in my.
- 6:43It's fucking so cool. So if I've been coughing the
- 6:46past four episodes, it's been awesome.
- 6:50Elliot, myself, Dennis, John, Evan, Julian, Morgan, Noah.
- 6:59Oh man. We were all in the same server
- 7:01and Elliott was rolling down the street in a tank and he shoots
- 7:06this other tank. The people bail, Elliott kills
- 7:09him. Julian runs up behind it,
- 7:10repairs it goes Nick and in the tank just go.
- 7:13So I steal their tank. So Elliott's right here for the
- 7:16audio listeners. I'm like showing how close we
- 7:18were. Elliott's in front, I'm in the
- 7:20back and I'm just pushed up against him.
- 7:23His barrel is straight, mine's to the left or right and we're
- 7:27just going. Boom boom boom.
- 7:28Like we are just like Serpentine, dude.
- 7:31It is. So like we just kept lapping the
- 7:33area and we were just screaming. Another lap, another lap, we
- 7:38were just knocking motherfuckers out, dude.
- 7:41And then Evan, so there's a tank chasing us, Evan like Tom Cruise
- 7:47Mission Impossible this where he like turned around, jumped out
- 7:50of the tank, went boom, blew this bitch up, ran up and just
- 7:54got back in. We just another lap.
- 7:56No, it is a return to form. From what I'm playing right now,
- 8:01this is like it feels like four and three all over again.
- 8:04Yes, which is all I really want truly like 4 was cool.
- 8:09Honestly, I have more of a soft spot for three than I do 4.
- 8:14But also 3 is quite old at this point.
- 8:18But I mean, we we've played a little bit of Battlefield 4 just
- 8:21kind of getting back into that, that mode of what Battlefield
- 8:26is, right. And I know a lot of people make
- 8:28jokes or it's it's like half series, half joking of like only
- 8:33in Battlefield, you know, like, but at the same time it's.
- 8:37Very. True, there's very other very
- 8:40few other games that really like make you feel that way where you
- 8:44can have that Tom Cruise moment of jumping out of the tank,
- 8:47blowing up another tank and then jumping back in the tank.
- 8:50Or I mean, you've seen all the videos of people like jumping
- 8:53out of a plane, shooting another plane with an RPG and then
- 8:57landing back in their plane like that.
- 8:59That kind of shit's something I will never do, let's be
- 9:02perfectly honest. But it is really cool.
- 9:05Like, it's just such a neat sandbox.
- 9:07And when it works, it works so exceptionally well.
- 9:11It does seem like from what I've been seeing, people are almost
- 9:14complaining that the destruction is just a touch too much.
- 9:17Like somebody was shooting like a, they shot like a noob tube
- 9:21into a building and the whole building fell.
- 9:23And they're like, I mean, but at the same time, at the same time,
- 9:29like, yeah, it, it may be a touch much, but they can always
- 9:33tone that down a little bit or whatever it may be.
- 9:35But it God, I'm just just. Wait, bud, it is.
- 9:40It is. Like I said, it's a true return
- 9:43to form and it's beta, so, you know, subject to change.
- 9:48Yeah, but. Not much.
- 9:50I mean, fuck. October's October.
- 9:52Right around the corner at this point, so.
- 9:54Every I can tell you right now everyone discord is screaming
- 9:56just release it right now that's how good it feels like and it
- 10:02feels. How do I say this?
- 10:04It feels. Sexual.
- 10:08It's sexual, but it also feels unfriendly for streamers.
- 10:14I'm OK with that I. And what I and what I mean by
- 10:18that, this is going to be great. What I mean by that is it's not
- 10:24the Call of Duty drops. And they already know how to
- 10:26dolphin dive, Crouch jump, dolphin dive, twitch, twitch,
- 10:30twitch, twitch, and you're dead. This is very much grounded.
- 10:34It is, it's fast, it's Arcady, but it's Battlefield.
- 10:38Yeah. So those who can't hang will
- 10:41leave. Just, you know, they're going to
- 10:45go back to playing, which is fine, you know, not it's not
- 10:48everyone's cup of tea. But man, I've been needing this.
- 10:53I like, like I've been needing this dude.
- 10:56And it's like, fucking finally we got Battlefield back.
- 11:00And if that's the case, that's a good sign for the industry for
- 11:04games to keep releasing like this.
- 11:06Hopefully we don't know how it's actually going to release.
- 11:08This is a huge stress test. That's what people aren't
- 11:11understanding. They're like, oh, I saw many
- 11:12people. I'm like because you got to kill
- 11:14the server. Oh yeah, and, and honestly, I'd
- 11:17rather have that because Battlefield has a history of
- 11:20launching and having a lot of problems right out the get go.
- 11:23So get some of the server test. I mean I've seen I've seen
- 11:28screenshots of steam DB showing like 330,000 players.
- 11:34Right now it's like 250, yeah. And I have seen.
- 11:36It's just steam. I was going to say, and I've
- 11:38seen no complaints. It sounds like everything like
- 11:41as far as servers and everything seems to be running like a
- 11:45fucking top. I've I've had some DC issues,
- 11:47but like really quick when I first loaded the game, it said I
- 11:52was it's pretty funny 4000 420th in line.
- 11:59No one believes me that that's what it said.
- 12:00It did say that I cracked up so hard, but then immediately it
- 12:05dropped to like 1800 and I went OK and then it just no 14,420 in
- 12:12line and then it dropped to like 18,000 and then it just booted
- 12:17me into the game and I went OK, that's insane fine, I'll play.
- 12:22And then I just hopped in. I just so like I I clicked on
- 12:27Evan and Julian or one of the two, I just hit join squad or
- 12:30join team in in dude. It was just like boom, you're
- 12:34in. And I was like, oh, wow, this is
- 12:36fucking wild. It you know, the UI is simple.
- 12:39There's some bugginess there, like when you die and you go to
- 12:45the map and then you go to the classes.
- 12:48It's a bit buggy in the sense of it'll kind of have that stutter
- 12:55while like it's a bit of a it's a bit of a it's a hitch.
- 12:59I'm getting some hitching. Yeah, but like only there.
- 13:03I'm not getting it in the actual game because I was like, oh,
- 13:05maybe is my computer getting hot or I just need to like look at
- 13:08some settings. No, in the game I'm like, I
- 13:11looked at my computer on my motherboard and or my AIO and
- 13:14it's like you're at 50° and I went, I'm fine.
- 13:19I'm not that hot right now. So great.
- 13:21No battlefield fucking dope. I'm curious to see, I mean my P
- 13:26CS capable right? But I also don't play a ton of
- 13:30games that really push it too incredibly much.
- 13:32So it'll be interesting to see how everything runs on my PC.
- 13:37Especially because I I don't run an AIO on my CPU, mine's just
- 13:43air cooled. Seems to do fine enough so far,
- 13:46but this is going to be more CPU heavy because of everything
- 13:52going on whereas most of the games are that I play.
- 13:55Graphic at times more. Graphic intense, so I don't play
- 13:59like a ton of SIM games or anything like that where it's
- 14:02going to be really utilizing a ton of it.
- 14:04So this will be a good test. We will see how it goes.
- 14:08Yes, yes we fucking will. Well, with that being said, the
- 14:14only game I've been playing on Battlefield tonight is Death
- 14:17Stranding too. No, very good.
- 14:19No gush. I can't gush about it if if you
- 14:22let me do that, that's the episode.
- 14:24So I'm not going to what I will say.
- 14:26I have cried 4 times. Damn.
- 14:30On my couch in the darkest of dark rooms at 2:00 in the
- 14:34morning, just going, how could you, Kochima?
- 14:38Why would you like do tears? Like I was like, Oh my fucking
- 14:42God. I was like, what the fuck?
- 14:44And it's just like if you're a dad, what I will say is this for
- 14:48death training 2, If you didn't like the first one, forget about
- 14:51it. Get the second one.
- 14:53Give this a shot. It is so fun.
- 14:56There is so much good combat. It is fluid.
- 14:59There's a lot to do in this game.
- 15:01Yes, it's package delivery. I'm not going to say it's not
- 15:04it's package delivering, but like it's that is the crux of
- 15:11it. All right, with everything in
- 15:13between like that, that's like that.
- 15:16It's the shell that is the facade of the game is that
- 15:19you're only a package deliverer. The rest is OK.
- 15:22So start to point A to point B and then it's the journey.
- 15:25But like it's incredible it and it's photo realistic.
- 15:28I don't give a fuck what people say it's.
- 15:30Crazy. It's crazy.
- 15:33On my TV, because I have, I have a Samsung, it's 120 Hertz.
- 15:36So I'm sitting there going whoa. I'm like, oh, shit, like how did
- 15:41he do this? I How did they like whoa.
- 15:45How how is the on boarding process if you didn't play one?
- 15:48Does it give you like a recap to some extent?
- 15:51I thought it did, but. There's a whole recap.
- 15:54There's a thing called the corpus as well.
- 15:58OK. So the recap, you can, you can,
- 16:01you can go to it any moment. So if you're confused, you can
- 16:04just go right to the main menu, go to recap.
- 16:05Oh. I know what you're what what's
- 16:08it's a fucking flies. I hate them trying to be crazy.
- 16:11I don't know where it came from. Is mad at your house Fucking fly
- 16:16king anyways. The Fly Wizard.
- 16:19The Fly Wizard. So there is like a recap right
- 16:23from the get go. You can access it whenever and
- 16:26then in the game there's this thing called the Corpus.
- 16:29Yeah, I I did hear about this. Yeah.
- 16:32And it is. It is bigger than the fucking
- 16:35Bible. Yeah.
- 16:37It's huge. So yeah, death rating too man.
- 16:40It is. And if you really need to dig
- 16:44deeper before you play 2, if you didn't play one, just go to
- 16:46YouTube type in events of death stranding one or the story of
- 16:51death stranding one it it'll you.
- 16:52Can always find somebody that's done a good run through of
- 16:55what's what's happening there so.
- 16:57I There's a lot, yeah. I I give you a lot of shit and I
- 17:01give Kojima a lot of shit. I can't.
- 17:03And not in a, not necessarily in like a malicious way, right?
- 17:08Like it's just not my style Typically, No, no, yeah.
- 17:14So yeah, I, I, I do blow some shit that way.
- 17:18That being said, I have heard nothing but good shit about
- 17:21death straining 2. I have heard that it solved a
- 17:25lot of the problems that. So I never actually got into
- 17:28death straining one because I knew I would not like it, but it
- 17:32sounds like there's a lot more action in this one.
- 17:36You can actually go in and in like basically have a full on
- 17:39action game out of this if you would like to or you want to
- 17:42choose not to. So the the second one sounds way
- 17:47more interesting to me. That being said, I do have the
- 17:51first one because I think it was one of the free Epic games at
- 17:54some point. Still have never even downloaded
- 17:56it or touched it or anything right?
- 17:58But I I do want to give it a go at some point.
- 18:02But I also can't seem to find a time in the year where there is
- 18:07not something major coming out that is eating all of my time
- 18:10so. Here's the thing about a Kojima
- 18:14game. If you are going to play it,
- 18:17it's a dedicated couple hours. You don't get to like when I
- 18:22load up Death Stranding if unless I'm like, OK, I'll just
- 18:26go like fix some roads or I'll build a rail because now I've
- 18:29had the almost the entire monorail system.
- 18:31It's wild what you can do this game.
- 18:33It's fucking crazy. But like unless I'm doing small
- 18:36things, it is OK. So we're going to do this, this
- 18:39and this and on our way to do this, this and that.
- 18:42We are going to do that, this and that.
- 18:45And I'm like, holy fuck, blink and it's 2:00 in the morning.
- 18:49I'm going, I started at 9:00, but like, you know, and the
- 18:54cutscenes are very, very long. They're sometimes 1/2 hour.
- 18:58But those cutscenes are important.
- 19:02Like if they were just, if it was Kojima, go and look what I
- 19:05can do. I'd call this game out.
- 19:08I'd say this is just him fluffing, but it's not, it's a
- 19:11lot of this is important. So yeah, no, it's, it's it's
- 19:15great. It's it's it's wild that this is
- 19:17made. I kind of agree with him during
- 19:21his interview, which is going to lead us into this topic right
- 19:23now about the current remake, remaster, reimagining of, of
- 19:32Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear, Metal Gear Solid Delta, Snake
- 19:37Eater, where he said it's just, it seems like there's no,
- 19:43basically to sum it up, no imagination.
- 19:45Everything's boring in the AAA sphere of things.
- 19:48That's why we are getting all these remakes, remasters,
- 19:50reimaginings. Kojima straight up will not play
- 19:55the the new medal, which I don't blame him.
- 19:56It's Konami. So there's a lot of bad blood
- 19:59there too. They fucked him.
- 20:01Oh absolutely. They are very bad for that so.
- 20:05And they owe him so fucking much considering like, I mean that
- 20:11not even just monetarily, right? Like he, he single handedly kept
- 20:17that company afloat with his games.
- 20:19Like, let's be really honest. Could you imagine what Konami,
- 20:22how they'd be doing if they had Death Stranding?
- 20:25Oh yeah. First off, they would never
- 20:27green light it. They would never green light
- 20:28that. They they gave him a pretty long
- 20:31leash with. Yeah, but look at, but look what
- 20:34happened during five. They really that's enough.
- 20:36You're out. Yeah.
- 20:37That's true. And then 5, like you could see
- 20:39where it stops during Don't Get Me Started.
- 20:44It's bad, But no. So like I wanted to talk about
- 20:47that though. I really wanted to explore that.
- 20:48Kojima talking about that struck a nerve with me.
- 20:52I think where we are getting a lot of remasters, we're getting
- 20:54a lot of remakes, we're getting a lot of reimaginations or
- 20:57reimaginings of games. And I think there are companies
- 21:02that have been doing it well. Capcom, for instance, with
- 21:06Resident Evil, all of the reimagine, because I wouldn't
- 21:10even call them remakes. Evan was talking about that
- 21:12earlier and he's like, I wouldn't call them remakes.
- 21:14It it depends. Like they are like 4 is like a
- 21:19remake because it's still 4 like when you play it.
- 21:24I, I, I think there's, I think that's where you fall into the
- 21:28whole remake or remaster, right? Like right Remaster to me is
- 21:35lesser than a remake. A remake is where they go in and
- 21:39actually like change some shit or drastically increase the
- 21:45quality of of what is happening there.
- 21:47Whereas a remaster is much more of a hey we put some HD textures
- 21:52and fix some. Shit.
- 21:53And here you go, like, yeah, right.
- 21:56So I'm not, I don't necessarily have too much of a problem with
- 22:00the word remake, but the reimagining, like I feel like
- 22:05that has to change pretty drastically to to reach what I
- 22:11think of when I think of reimagining, right?
- 22:15Yeah, I mean, dude, like, there's just a lot of verbiage
- 22:19being thrown around in the industry and it gives a lot of
- 22:23cur blanche and a lot of avenues for people like Neil Druckman,
- 22:28who I think smells his own farts so fucking hard and I think the
- 22:35last of a season's dry shit. I think it freeze dries them and
- 22:39then like crushes him up into a fucking line and snorts his own
- 22:42farts. Dude, I wouldn't fucking doubt
- 22:45it. And he uses used foreskins to
- 22:47snort the line. OK yeah of course he's that much
- 22:50of a Dick. So like bro.
- 22:54Even even Evan will admit that Neil Druckman is insufferable
- 23:00and Evan is the biggest The Last of Us fan I have ever met my
- 23:04entire life. Neil Druckman, The type of
- 23:06motherfucker to have it. Fucking coke straw made out of
- 23:09elephant Tusk. You know what I'm saying?
- 23:12Like this dude's a Dick. He he definitely has a bust of
- 23:16himself right when you walk into his fucking house.
- 23:18And he nuts on it. Oh, for sure.
- 23:21What are we? Doing We are going to the old
- 23:24days of Boston. I and we're never getting
- 23:27invited to a Naughty Dog event, that's for sure.
- 23:30Fucking Neil Drugwood, give him Jack and Daxter back, dude.
- 23:33I don't fucking give a fuck. No, but like the problem is it
- 23:37gives people like him and Todd Howard and fucking I guarantee
- 23:43pitch for it. Eventually he's going to be
- 23:44like, well, check out all of this.
- 23:46They did, I thought, with Borderlands.
- 23:49What did did what? Then they do fucking HD fucking
- 23:53whatevers. I think they may have done
- 23:58something for Borderlands 1. OK fine, but what I'm saying is
- 24:03a lot of current day games I think do not need to be
- 24:06remastered, retouched, re, whatever.
- 24:10You know, like Last of Us fucking how many times have we
- 24:13gotten that game that three and two already?
- 24:153/3 times for The Last of Us. OK.
- 24:19And then? Twice or sorry?
- 24:21Once for sorry. I guess it's been the original
- 24:25release and then it came out at the tail end of the PlayStation
- 24:293. Then they did a remastered
- 24:30edition for the PlayStation 4, and then they did the the full
- 24:37fucking remaster that they did not too terribly long ago for
- 24:43The Last of Us and now The Last of Us 2, which came out not too
- 24:47terribly long ago either. And if that got remastered
- 24:51already, it's fucking insane. So did the God of War 2016.
- 24:56It's like we don't need these games.
- 24:59Look, 2018 did it get? Remastered.
- 25:02I thought it got like a little bit of a fucking spruce up for
- 25:04the PS-5. But it wasn't like a paid thing,
- 25:07was it? I mean, or like a maybe not.
- 25:11I, I was going to say I don't, I don't necessarily hate a little
- 25:14spruce up, especially if it's like something like, oh, you're
- 25:16already on the game and it's free, or if it's like minuscule,
- 25:21but it adds content and it's like 10 bucks or something.
- 25:23Like that's not the worst thing. Like Ghost of Sushima did that
- 25:27right where they did the director's cut and then it had
- 25:30the DLC in it. But they also didn't have a
- 25:32great path to actually get the DLC without buying the IT was it
- 25:37was kind of a fucking mess. But yeah, I, I don't, I don't
- 25:41hate something like that where it's a a very small cost, but
- 25:44also you get something else out of it.
- 25:46But fuck, when you're asking full price for a remaster of a
- 25:51game that came out within the last fucking eight years at this
- 25:55point, right? Like fuck off.
- 25:59Dude fuck off. I like what they used to do, and
- 26:03it's because I'm fucking old and I get it.
- 26:05But like, I remember the first time I saw like Fallout Name of
- 26:08the Year edition, Fall three, it was like, OK, cool.
- 26:12So we've updated it a bit. But also look at the list of DLC
- 26:16you get. Yeah.
- 26:17So yes, you're going to spend $50.00, but you get all of the
- 26:22DLC. $50.00 worth of DLC. Exactly right.
- 26:26But now it's like we'll spend 50 bucks and like look, it's like
- 26:294K almost. OK, but nobody wants to game in
- 26:334K necessarily because it doesn't work.
- 26:35It doesn't run exceptionally well, no.
- 26:38So like, what are you trying to sell me?
- 26:39And that's my thing. Like I just want new ideas.
- 26:44And I really think the industry is being bogged out like, OK, so
- 26:47so at fucking Quakecon today we got Heretic and Hexen.
- 26:51That is different. That is Night Dive Studios.
- 26:53Yeah, where they are, they do a great job.
- 26:56The Keck engine is is great. Like what they're doing.
- 26:59Fuck, you call me is stop it, stop it.
- 27:04You call that a penis? So what they're doing though,
- 27:08is, yeah, I almost got you with a spit tank.
- 27:13Nightdive does something special where they will take games like
- 27:17System Shock, System Shock 2 with System Shock.
- 27:22We'll go to that in a minute. But System Shock and the
- 27:24remaster and System Shock 2 remaster, they will spruce these
- 27:29games up, make them playable for the younger audiences and people
- 27:33who've never touched them to be able to play on their computers.
- 27:36Because a lot of those games, you can't play them on your like
- 27:39you'd think like, oh, I have a 2003 thousand dollar computer, I
- 27:42can play that game. You can't.
- 27:44No, unless you're you're doing some back alley way to do it.
- 27:49I'm sure I could find it, but also, yeah, not not the ITO,
- 27:54yeah. Give me a launcher, let me do
- 27:56it. No.
- 27:56We don't. We don't want more launchers.
- 27:58We don't need no. Steam.
- 27:59Steam. OK.
- 28:01I want this to. Be the throw it in Steam.
- 28:02Yeah, yeah, but like he's going to say get the fuck out of here
- 28:05with that shit. Oh, dude, every other launcher
- 28:08could die in a hole. Yeah, just straight up in a hole
- 28:12alive. Just bury it and let it die.
- 28:14But like, I'd like what night Night Dive does.
- 28:17I think what they do as a team is very important.
- 28:20It helps with preservation. A lot of the newer audiences can
- 28:23play the games that they they've heard their peers talk about.
- 28:27Like, did you never play System Shock?
- 28:29You got to go play it. It's why, you know, like, This
- 28:33is why this and like, like Doom and Quake and like they're
- 28:37bringing all these things to like the younger audience and
- 28:40that's phenomenal. And then they do something like
- 28:44System Shock, the remake, and that is even better than the
- 28:50remasters of it, because it's a full-fledged fucking thing.
- 28:54Right. Like that is important I think,
- 28:58but when you have AAA studios, because by no means it's night
- 29:01dives AAA, no. No, no, no, I've been saying AA
- 29:06right, like they they fall in that, that space in between, I
- 29:10think, but. Yeah, like.
- 29:14Go ahead. No, finish your thought there.
- 29:16They are important for that reason, but they also want to
- 29:20make their own shit. But you know, like again, System
- 29:24of Shock, Turok, Quake, they brought they're bringing all of
- 29:27this back for people to play right.
- 29:29But then you got Ubisoft and EA and Gearbox and all these
- 29:35shitheads who just think dollar signs, which again, you're a
- 29:39company. I understand you got to make
- 29:40money to keep the ship afloat. You have it though.
- 29:45Right. And you guys are in the pockets
- 29:47of Microsoft and Sony and you got the money and but you're
- 29:52canceling good games. Wow, Perfect Dark is not
- 29:58happening now. Yeah.
- 30:01But we'll get a fucking remake for Assassin's Creed Alice.
- 30:06The next Alice in Wonderland game from American McGee is not
- 30:10going to happen, right? That's a beloved series.
- 30:13It might be niche, but people love that series.
- 30:17Not going to happen. So OK, So what about games like
- 30:20Psychonauts? Are we ever going to see
- 30:22Psychonauts again? Are we just going to get
- 30:24fucking? I know Psychonauts.
- 30:26I God the first one was so good though.
- 30:30Honestly, the second one, it didn't sound like it was met
- 30:33poorly, right? Like it, it seemed like it was
- 30:36fine. I I was saying more of a as it's
- 30:39probably not going to happen. But like, these are the things
- 30:45I'm saying, like spider. Anyways, I got it.
- 30:50That was gross. I'm oogie boogie man.
- 30:54But like, that's what I'm saying.
- 30:56Like, so we're going to sacrifice creativity, good new
- 31:00games for what? Another fucking Assassin's Creed
- 31:04fucking remake, remaster, whatever you want to fucking
- 31:08label it. Yeah, and.
- 31:10Now you have the floor. So I feel like the video game
- 31:14industry is in a very similar spot as the movie industry right
- 31:17now. Everything is getting
- 31:20remastered. One, I think it's a play at
- 31:23nostalgia. Yeah.
- 31:25I think it is it, it, it is almost a surefire way for them
- 31:32to make a lot of money. So I think that is why, and I
- 31:37don't know if I've talked about it on here much at all, but
- 31:41we've seen a lot of, I, I think I did bring it up one time, but
- 31:45we've seen a lot of developers come out and do interviews and
- 31:48stuff. And they were, they were talking
- 31:50about how I think specifically the one I'm thinking of is Elder
- 31:54Ring or Elden Ring Night Ring. They did an interview and he was
- 32:00like, hey, like in this day and age, you cannot afford to spend
- 32:07a ton of money on a game that does not hit.
- 32:10That was from his B team, right? Yes.
- 32:13That was like their C team. Right.
- 32:15So yeah, basically what how how they typically operate.
- 32:20They would let their up and coming developers work on a
- 32:24game, release it, and if it didn't do exceptionally well,
- 32:27like whatever, right? Well, now in this day and age,
- 32:31games cost so much to make and everything like that, that it it
- 32:36it's very hard for them to be able to allow a smaller team or
- 32:40younger developers work on a game and release it without
- 32:45taking a giant hit. Or if it's a big enough hit and
- 32:50they were already on that cusp anyway, they get shut the fuck
- 32:53down, right? Like we've seen it with
- 32:54Microsoft, we've seen it with a bunch of these other companies
- 32:58where they just get shut the fuck down.
- 33:00So Elden Ring Night Rain was an example of a way to reuse assets
- 33:05that were already existing, put them into a new style game and
- 33:10release it, giving their B not even B team, right?
- 33:14Like they're just they're younger developers that are they
- 33:17want to train to take over eventually and give them an
- 33:21opportunity to step in and actually do something like that.
- 33:25And that's unfortunately the where we're at, right?
- 33:28Like everybody's complaining about games costing more but
- 33:32also they're complaining about studios getting shut down
- 33:35because their game didn't perform as well as they needed
- 33:37to. So it it it's a double edged
- 33:39sword. Like I understand I also don't
- 33:41like to pay more for my games but games cost so much the the
- 33:46development time. Instead of being like the NES
- 33:49and SNES days where it was like a year maybe 2 years you just
- 33:53spit those things out and that's not the case anymore.
- 33:56Now some of these games have been in development for 8
- 33:59fucking years 8. Let's talk about fucking.
- 34:04Let's talk about the next Elder Scrolls.
- 34:06Let's talk about the next Fallout Half Life.
- 34:08Let's talk about fucking anything.
- 34:12I had to throw it. In there, but you know, yeah,
- 34:14yeah, yeah but I, I mean specifically one I'm thinking of
- 34:17right now is Bioshock 4, right. So Bioshock 4 can yeah, yeah, I,
- 34:24I, I've heard a little bit about that.
- 34:26It sounds like it's getting redone.
- 34:28It, it's, it's yeah, yeah. Because the story apparently was
- 34:31shit. Which is crazy because I don't
- 34:33know how you make a story bad enough that an executive made
- 34:36the call to be like, yeah, just redo it.
- 34:38Is it the original team? No, no, no.
- 34:42So that is why? Because they don't.
- 34:45Judas has also been in development for a fucking decade
- 34:48though. That's the original.
- 34:50Bioshock That's yeah. So it's one of those things that
- 34:54companies are too scared to make out-of-the-box ideas, and that's
- 35:00why we get them from indie games, right?
- 35:01That's why we get all these cool indie games.
- 35:04And yeah, it's pixel art or whatever it may be, but that's
- 35:08where we get all the new fresh ideas, whereas these bigger
- 35:10companies are doing the same fucking thing that has been
- 35:13making them money for decades now.
- 35:15You've got something like you brought up Ubisoft, right?
- 35:18Ubisoft is a company that makes Assassin's Creed at this point,
- 35:22for the most part. Like that is what they fucking
- 35:24do. With a sprinkle of Prince of
- 35:25Persia. And, and, and yeah, and they'll
- 35:27they'll, you know, venture into Avatar and be like, yeah, no,
- 35:31this is Avatar. And it's like, no, it's
- 35:33Assassin's Creed with a different part of paint.
- 35:35Yeah, right, right. And, and so that's, that's
- 35:40unfortunately the reality that we're in because games are so
- 35:43expensive, they take so long to make that companies are scared
- 35:47to make a move and do something unique because they're going to
- 35:50lose a shit load of money and risk going under or getting shut
- 35:54the fuck down or becoming a support studio for something
- 35:58like fucking Call of Duty, right?
- 36:00And I, I don't like it any more than the next person, but that's
- 36:04a lot of why we're seeing this. That's why fucking EA puts out a
- 36:09Madden every year. They put out at the same fucking
- 36:12game with a slightly different coat of paint and go, here you
- 36:17go. They can't, they can't afford to
- 36:20take the risk when you have $200 million wrapped up into
- 36:24development of a fucking game and six years of development
- 36:28time, like you going to shit can that you going to eat a quarter,
- 36:33almost a quarter million in cost and just be like, yeah, it's
- 36:38fine like that. That's not the way this works
- 36:40anymore. And the, you know, a lot of it
- 36:43goes into the graphic fidelity of everything and, and making
- 36:47sure all, every single little fucking thing has to be perfect
- 36:50under a microscope or it's going to get scathing reviews when it
- 36:53comes out. And.
- 36:54We live fucking critics. Well, and we live in a day and
- 36:57age where most people don't even pay attention to IGN, right?
- 37:01Or or another critic. What they're looking at is their
- 37:04favorite streamer playing a game and he's like, oh man, this one
- 37:08little thing sticks out to me and I just really, it really
- 37:11bugs me and they're all. No chamber.
- 37:12At that, I'm never playing it again.
- 37:14And it's like, I understand and I often, I know I tend to look
- 37:22at the business side of things way more than a lot of people in
- 37:26this industry. And, and, and it, it almost
- 37:30comes off as bootlicking, but it's, I promise I'm not, I, I
- 37:33don't like it any more than the rest of you, but I understand
- 37:37where they're coming from because they can't afford to
- 37:39take those risks anymore. They're they're making huge
- 37:42games. That being said, the movie
- 37:46industry is doing the same fucking shit, right?
- 37:48Like we we got some of them are really good, right?
- 37:52Like a toxic. Avenger Baby.
- 37:54Yeah, like Toxic Avengers getting redone essentially,
- 37:57right? Or like Nosferatu was a really,
- 38:02really good reimagining of what that original story was.
- 38:05Did you? Ever watch it?
- 38:06We have not yet but I've heard must watch it.
- 38:11I, I, I probably will have to watch that one by myself.
- 38:14I don't think Amber is interested but.
- 38:16Oh, my God, Amber, I know you listen to the show when he's on.
- 38:20Yeah, when your husband's on, you listen.
- 38:23But I the movie industry is doing a lot of the same shit,
- 38:27right? Like sparking up old IP to bring
- 38:30something back and it's uninspired.
- 38:32You look at Star Wars, right? Star Wars is in the worst place
- 38:36it has been in a long time because those new movies that
- 38:39came out fucking sucked. Except for Rogue One.
- 38:42I think Rogue One was pretty good.
- 38:44Right, but. Yeah, that was dope.
- 38:46Like skeleton. Skeleton crew was cool.
- 38:48Skeleton, but yeah, some of the shows have done well yeah right
- 38:53so it it it sucks to see right like I've been much to Evans
- 39:00disapprovement. I, I have been saying like the
- 39:04movie industry is fucking dying. Like to, to an extent,
- 39:07everything's going to a streaming service.
- 39:10Everybody just waits to go to a it'll be on a streaming service
- 39:13in no time. Like I'll watch it there.
- 39:15Nobody's paying these exorbitant prices to go watch a movie in a
- 39:19movie theater anymore. Like even even myself, I'm like
- 39:23Fantastic Four's out, Superman's out and I'm like, I haven't seen
- 39:26either of. Them I haven't seen either, and
- 39:27we're comic fans. Yeah, I was like, I'm, I'm a
- 39:30fucking huge comic fan. I have a full Marvel sleeve.
- 39:33Like I, I just. Comics on my leg.
- 39:36I, I just, I, I don't have any desire to go pay fucking
- 39:41$5060.00 for me and my family to go watch a movie anymore and
- 39:45it's like it'll be on the streaming service in two months.
- 39:47Fuck it. And that's unfortunately where
- 39:51we're at. But also movies cost millions of
- 39:54dollars to make as well. So it's like that's a big part
- 39:58of it. That's why we're getting an
- 39:59influx of of these, you know, superhero movies because
- 40:03historically they make a bunch of money.
- 40:05But Thunderbolts came out, was fucking incredible mind you, and
- 40:10it it's considered a flop because it didn't make enough
- 40:13money. And it's like, fuck, like that's
- 40:16the best Marvel movie we've had in a long time.
- 40:19Other Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was pretty good, right?
- 40:22But outside of that, like Thunderbolts was fantastic and
- 40:28it's considered a flop. And now Marvel's going to look
- 40:30at that and be like, well, we can't do that anymore.
- 40:32Bring in the big names again, like, and that's when we get
- 40:35this that you get Iron Man, you get Hulk, you get Cap, like you
- 40:40get those, those staples that everybody fucking knows.
- 40:44But it's that's, that's where again, I kind of branched off
- 40:49from from the the the video game thing, but they're very similar
- 40:54spaces right now. Like sorry, media is just it's
- 41:01consumed by streamers and and people consume all of their
- 41:04media through streamers and they listen to a certain streamer
- 41:07that they trust. And that's the fucking gospel
- 41:09now. And it's like something like
- 41:12even for me personally, right, Like Oblivion remaster or remake
- 41:17came out or I guess it was remastered, but it was more of a
- 41:20remake. To me, dude, it was yeah.
- 41:22It was so cool and I played it for an evening.
- 41:25I played it for an evening, dipped into the nostalgia and I
- 41:28go, yeah, I'm good. Yeah, I also.
- 41:31Had what they needed. Yeah, I had no skin in the game,
- 41:34right? Like I already paid for Game
- 41:35Pass anyway, so it was there and I could play.
- 41:37That's. All but that's the needed was
- 41:39for everybody to at least download and play, yeah.
- 41:42Or here in what, a month? Or less than a month?
- 41:48The Gears of War One remake is coming out.
- 41:50Yeah, which I'll be. That has also been remastered
- 41:54once and it's like, Yep, yeah, I'll probably play through the
- 41:57campaign, but I'm not gonna play the multiplayer like.
- 42:00The special thing on that, though, is that the PlayStation
- 42:02people can now hop in. Yeah, and and so that adds a
- 42:07another layer to it as Xbox is spanning into the PlayStation
- 42:12ecosystem now. Like, yeah, it makes sense.
- 42:14And and so it is really cool for them to get the best version of
- 42:18that game. But for for me and you who
- 42:21played that game when it fucking came out however long ago, Like,
- 42:26yeah, I, I, I, I don't necessarily have to experience
- 42:30this again. Like the nostalgia is going to
- 42:31get me and it's already on Game Pass, so why the fuck wouldn't I
- 42:35play it? But if it was coming out, I
- 42:36probably wouldn't buy it, just being entirely honest.
- 42:40Like so yeah, I I feel like I've gone in a weird windy, not even.
- 42:46Served at this point for this conversation.
- 42:48Though it, it sucks, right? Like I want to see fresh ideas,
- 42:52I want to see cool new games coming out, but the only place
- 42:56you get that is indie studios at this point.
- 42:59And I, I, I would be remiss to leave out Final Fantasy 7
- 43:06remakes. And I know that that is not
- 43:08everybody's cup of tea, but I do think as far as a remake
- 43:12remaster type of thing goes, like those are really, really
- 43:15good and they do a lot of cool stuff and and change up the
- 43:20story just ever so slightly. Well, it's ground up.
- 43:24Right, And that is such a beloved game and a game that for
- 43:29me personally is very hard to go back to and actually play
- 43:32through because Jesus fucking Christ, that game looks rough
- 43:35right there. Original.
- 43:36Big game too. And so this is, I think that is
- 43:40a very cool remaster and a very cool remake to introduce a bunch
- 43:44of people that maybe you were never going to go back to the
- 43:47original into a game that is legendary in the space, right.
- 43:52I'd I'd love to see an Ocarina of Time remake or a Majora's
- 43:55Mask remake like. Oh man.
- 43:57But Ocarina of Time with modern day graphics would be fucking
- 44:01incredible. But on the same token, you look
- 44:04at what Nintendo does over and over and over again.
- 44:08They take a game that came out on the last console, give it a
- 44:11slight coat of paint and release it for full price and people
- 44:16fucking buy that shit. Like all of the half of the the
- 44:21Switch library is Wii U games that nobody bought because that
- 44:26console sold like shit like it. Was a cool console.
- 44:30It is a cool console, like it is what it is, right?
- 44:33But most of so much of that library is made-up of games that
- 44:38came from a console that failed for all intents and purposes.
- 44:42Like it's just, it, it, it's a, it's a weird double edged sword,
- 44:47right? Like I would have never played
- 44:48those games because I didn't have a Wii UI that was in my era
- 44:52of being like Nintendos for, for kids and for babies.
- 44:58And then I'm like, I, I dig Nintendo shit, right?
- 45:01And, and so I, I did get to play some of those games.
- 45:04So it's like I am glad that they ported them to the switch, but
- 45:07also like I could have used a new Mario, especially a Mario
- 45:12Kart. Like fuck, we went a whole
- 45:15generation without a new Mario Kart and that was still one of
- 45:17the best selling games on that fucking console.
- 45:20Oh fuck, we how long we go without an actual good Donkey
- 45:23Kong. Oh, until we got Donkey Kong
- 45:25Bonanza. Now we got Bonanza.
- 45:28Are you insane? That game is.
- 45:30Love that game. I need to play it and we have
- 45:33our you guys switch to yet? No, not yet.
- 45:36I'm waiting. Not much.
- 45:38I'm waiting until they get some more games personally, like I I
- 45:42will buy one eventually. Like I'm.
- 45:44I'm not lying to myself about that, but there's just not
- 45:47enough for me to justify a $500 console at this.
- 45:50Point by the time, holy fuck by the time you want to get a
- 45:55switch to Steam Deck, 2 will be out and that'll be a very bad
- 45:57day for you. Yeah.
- 46:00Oh dude, that that thing on the plane?
- 46:02Just fucking I didn't. Didn't play much of it.
- 46:05I played a little bit and then I got my fucking ears were
- 46:08exploding anyways. Half, half the time I sit in my
- 46:11bed, like if I'm not gonna come down and play on my PC and I'm
- 46:14like, oh, I'll just play something for a little bit.
- 46:16I sit in my bed, Amber will have the TV on and I just sit there
- 46:19and like drool at the TV instead of actually playing my Steam
- 46:22Deck. I fucking hate it.
- 46:24I hate myself, but guess what? I know I'm going to buy this.
- 46:28I'm. I'm going to buy V2 when it
- 46:29comes out. Yeah.
- 46:30Yeah. No, dude, like everything you
- 46:32said makes sense. And it's hard to make to take
- 46:35those risks, you know, especially for smaller studios
- 46:39who are assimilated into the AAA.
- 46:42Yeah, but we need those risks right now.
- 46:44Like, look at risk of rain too. Look at look at look at Hobu.
- 46:48Yeah. They did so well with risk rain.
- 46:51Risk rain too. And risk rain too.
- 46:54Sorry, they are now bought up by Gearbox and Hobu.
- 47:00Is that technically Hobu? John, whatever is that Steam or
- 47:05Valve they're working on? They're working on Valve games
- 47:09now. Which is awesome.
- 47:10Fuck. Yeah, but Valve is not saying
- 47:13we're just taking your shit. They're OK, you're talented, go
- 47:17work on this. They're working on Deadlock, but
- 47:22there are other developers from everywhere else working on
- 47:26whatever. I'm not going to say it so
- 47:28whatever, but it's studios like Valve and Rockstar, and Rockstar
- 47:34has its problems, Valve has its problems, but at least those
- 47:40studios allow for risk. Rockstar.
- 47:42Maybe not so much anymore. Yeah, and Rockstar is one of
- 47:46those weird cases that it's almost too big to fail, like in
- 47:51in a way, right? Like even if that game comes out
- 47:53and it sucks and people are going to buy the absolute shit
- 47:56out of GTA6. Dude give me a new manhunt and a
- 48:00bully. They they won't.
- 48:02It's the they can't. Like I said, it prints fucking
- 48:05money. What do you do?
- 48:08Well, what do you next year, I'm telling you.
- 48:11All right? You ready for this?
- 48:15Yeah. GTA 6 and Half Life 3 next year.
- 48:20I, I listen, listen for you. I would love to see Half Life 3
- 48:25come out. I just I, I the way I look at
- 48:29it, and I've said it a million times.
- 48:31It's a Unicorn, bro Gabe. Newell is too fucking smart to
- 48:35release a game that is Half Life 3 and it risk it not being good
- 48:42enough to live up to expectation.
- 48:45He's too smart. Whatever.
- 48:46He's too fucking. Whatever they did, they released
- 48:48Alex. Exactly.
- 48:50And it wasn't Half Life 3. They I, I, I don't think at this
- 48:54point they can release a Half Life 3 and I think they will do
- 48:59things in the half Life universe, but I do not think
- 49:02they ever release a half Life 3 because I think, I think the.
- 49:05Background. Yeah, a bunch of code names and
- 49:09this and that, Yeah. No, they're calling it.
- 49:11So the biggest leak now from the counter strike thing was they
- 49:16are in green text calling it HLX.
- 49:19So the devs are leaving HLX, deformation of this, deformation
- 49:23of that heat properties, blah blah.
- 49:27End of, end of it's end of the fucking development is where
- 49:31they're at with this, this game, I don't think.
- 49:33It's Half Life 3 though I don't think it's.
- 49:35It's going to be called half. Life something.
- 49:38It's I guaranteed stop. We need more developers to do
- 49:43more amazing things. There's a lot of devs out there
- 49:46doing awesome things. I and they're just, I just feel
- 49:50like the industry wants to pigeon holed people though.
- 49:53I I think a lot of the AAA space is so focused on games of
- 49:57service right now too, right? Like we saw it with PlayStation
- 50:00pushing Concord and then it fucking flopped on its face.
- 50:02So I think some of the what? Yeah, Bunches.
- 50:06Marathon, dude. That is they're they're still
- 50:10saying next year November. There's yeah, they're no,
- 50:13they're saying end of 2025 fiscal year so.
- 50:17No, no way. No, absolutely not.
- 50:23Not if they want it to be successful.
- 50:25It does not come out by March. Absolutely.
- 50:28It doesn't come out until the end of 2026.
- 50:30Yeah. No way Marathon can come out
- 50:33like that. But even marathon in and of
- 50:36itself like is not revolutionary.
- 50:39It is a extraction shooter. And they could have done some
- 50:42Rev stop. It would have served so much
- 50:46better as a single player game or or something more akin to
- 50:50Destiny. Like I know a lot of people are
- 50:52not big on Destiny. I'm not either in this day and
- 50:54age, but something like a Destiny where it is these
- 51:00predominantly single player, but you have like strikes and you
- 51:02have raids and shit like that. Like that would do so well for
- 51:07it. That would do so well for
- 51:09Marathon. But that's not what I.
- 51:10Think but it's still It would still be marathon though.
- 51:13Yes. I but.
- 51:15Everybody is chasing money, but again, like I said earlier, the
- 51:19development time for a game is five to six years, so by the
- 51:22time their game is done, they are chasing a trend that is
- 51:26slowly starting to die. Battle Royale, dude.
- 51:29I don't know how the fuck we're still doing this, guys.
- 51:32I even Battlefield's putting a fucking battle Royale in there,
- 51:34which honestly, I don't care. I won't interact with it.
- 51:38That's fine. Put it and it's.
- 51:39Free it's, but the cool thing with that is they're going hey.
- 51:43They're going the. Free thing?
- 51:45Here you go. Have that.
- 51:46But also, here's the real game. Yeah, they're they're going the
- 51:50war zone model with that which I think is smart, right Like that.
- 51:52That is one thing that it's not going to miss necessarily at
- 51:58that point. I mean, you're going to have
- 51:59like development costs and shit. But at the same time, I think
- 52:02they should be able to recoup that.
- 52:04So I don't think it's going to be a major deal.
- 52:06But yeah like we saw how many battle royales came come out and
- 52:11fucking flop on their face because how the fuck are you
- 52:15supposed to compete with something like Fortnite or even
- 52:17war zone like Call of Duty guy in there?
- 52:20Pub G. Yeah, like Pub G back in the
- 52:22day, which is still fucking massive, just.
- 52:25In China. In China and India, for the most
- 52:28part, but but it's. A big player base though.
- 52:31Oh, it's a massive fucking player base.
- 52:33Huge and that's all they need. They don't.
- 52:36Fucking who gives a shit about? Yeah who gives a shit about it
- 52:39and the rest of the world. That is 2 of the largest player
- 52:42bases in the entire fucking world.
- 52:44What? Go for it. 1.
- 52:47They split it off in their own studios.
- 52:49Yeah. And they have promised some cool
- 52:53stuff that hasn't released. So anyways.
- 52:55But you know, a Call of Duty got in just just barely in the nick
- 52:59of the nick of time to actually capture that that landscape of
- 53:03like the not even SIM shooter at this point, right?
- 53:06Like Call of Duty is whatever the fuck it is but you.
- 53:09Better be careful calling it that.
- 53:10Man Those those milsim people will come.
- 53:12No it's not milsim but more slightly more grounded than
- 53:17Fortnite and not by much. Right, Like Fortnite gets viewed
- 53:21as that. That's kind of the vein I was
- 53:23going in. Right?
- 53:23Like there is still military undertones.
- 53:26There Beavis and Butt Head, yeah.
- 53:28Call of Duty and like I said, it's it's gotten out of hand
- 53:31now, but Fortnite, Fortnite had where all the characters and
- 53:36captured the predominantly younger audience, right, Whereas
- 53:41Call of Duty was able to sweep in and capture a little bit
- 53:44older audience and have, you know, realistic guns to some
- 53:48extent. And and and if you wanted it mil
- 53:51mil spec like fucking gear and shit, right.
- 53:54So they snuck in there just in the nick of time to capture that
- 53:58battle Royale. But it's like those are the two
- 54:02big ones now, like for the most part outside of India and China,
- 54:06like we talked about her already, but it's just they're
- 54:10chasing trends that are dying before the game can even
- 54:14release. And we're seeing it.
- 54:15Concorde was that and it's just it, it sucks, right?
- 54:20Like, or they're trying to capture the nostalgia like we
- 54:23talked about earlier with like all these remakes and remasters
- 54:26and it's, it works momentarily and makes them some quick, quick
- 54:31money or not quick money, right, but quicker money than a full
- 54:35development cycle and helps them fund whatever is coming next.
- 54:40So on that token, like it's not the worst thing in the world if
- 54:44it helps them make something cool in the future.
- 54:46But most of them are not doing that and they're just taking
- 54:48their earnings and making another fucking Assassin's Creed
- 54:53or whatever. Maybe so, I don't fucking know
- 54:55anymore. I just want something cool
- 54:58that's not necessarily from an indie studio with a very limited
- 55:02budget like I. In a world of Assassin's Creed 9
- 55:08eventually, and Call of Duty 12 and fucking what have you at
- 55:15this point, we need things like a Duke Nukem, a fucking, a new
- 55:22Animal Crossing, another little big planet, fucking Jack and
- 55:28Daxter. We need fun things.
- 55:31And we also need new ideas, new IPS we.
- 55:34And what really fucking irked me was watching an industry Titan
- 55:40like John Romero and his studio go down.
- 55:43Yeah. How the fuck are you in this
- 55:47industry? Are you going to let that
- 55:48happen? Where John Romero and his studio
- 55:52creating new games like Sigil, we get fucking wiped out.
- 55:58Yeah, yeah, it sucks to see, right, But.
- 56:02But but then we get the slop, we get the Madden, we get the all
- 56:07of that. And it's like, and the remakes
- 56:10and the rematches and the fucking this is and the that's
- 56:13and the IT sucks and this is a bunch of old men yelling at
- 56:16clouds. The amount of money that Madden
- 56:20and FIFA bring in every year, despite being practically the
- 56:24same game, is staggering. Staggering.
- 56:29It's fucked. Honestly, like I have more
- 56:32respect for something like a Fortnite where they at least
- 56:35change up the map and do something a new season right And
- 56:38and at least I can't. Navigate the UI.
- 56:41Yeah, I don't know what to do right, but at at least it is
- 56:44slightly more inspired than something like a Madden or a
- 56:48FIFA or whatever it may be, where it's the same fucking game
- 56:52every year to the point where if you go into camera mode, half
- 56:55the time they don't even change the fucking banners up there.
- 56:57And it has the last or the previous Madden, those fucking
- 57:01banners like. Well, back in the day, Call of
- 57:03Duty was recycling maps. Oh, absolutely.
- 57:06They still are. They still absolutely.
- 57:08Are there you go. There you go.
- 57:09So nothing's changed. I mean, Battlefield's probably
- 57:12going to have a couple old maps in there too, but it's also been
- 57:15a long. Time the old maps.
- 57:17Yes and it again hit that nostalgia and get people in, but
- 57:22also as long as it is a return to form in something like that
- 57:25where it is a modern multiplayer game looking back at maps that
- 57:30came out over a decade ago, I'm OK with that.
- 57:34But Call of Duty puts fucking shipment in every goddamn game
- 57:39anymore, because why not? Won't whatever won't play it
- 57:43Brody. Yes, we this episode went
- 57:47everywhere today. Sorry, I'm so fucking happy.
- 57:52It's it's such a, it's such a interesting topic, right?
- 57:56Like I think. It it is it it?
- 57:57Covers a lot of things and there's a there's good and bad
- 58:01to both sides of it and it's it's hard to really encapsulate
- 58:05and each individual case is its own unique situation that
- 58:10sometimes it makes sense, sometimes it doesn't.
- 58:12I don't know if it's less than a decade old.
- 58:15Stop remastering fucking games, I don't care.
- 58:18Dude, in a world of The Last of Us Remastered and whatever else,
- 58:24I'll still go back and play my odd Worlds.
- 58:27I'll still play Jack and Daxter. I'll still play Half Life 2 as
- 58:31was released because those games are fucking fun.
- 58:35They feel like video games. It doesn't feel like I mentally,
- 58:39I know it's a product, but when I play it, I don't even consider
- 58:44it because I know it was made for me and that is important.
- 58:50And I cannot wait to see the shape of the industry change
- 58:54because it can't be like this forever, because then we will
- 58:56eventually get to the same place we were when ET almost killed
- 58:59the industry. Yeah, unfortunately.
- 59:02Right there. Yeah, we're like you said, we
- 59:05are right fucking there. And it's because the companies
- 59:09making games, especially in the AAA landscape, have become
- 59:13soulless. They are, they are first and
- 59:15foremost businesses and they're and the job and sole purpose of
- 59:21a business is to turn a profit and that is unfortunately the
- 59:24landscape we are in. Just like your favorite
- 59:27streamers. So fuck your favorite streamers.
- 59:30Fuck us. But we're not getting a dime off
- 59:32you because we're broke and we're making our own money doing
- 59:34our own jobs while doing this. So.
- 59:36Fuck your favorite streamers, fuck Tim the Tat man.
- 59:38I'll fight you any day dude. Oh damn.
- 59:41Your tattoos, they're not even cool.
- 59:43Yeah, you're right. What's up bro?
- 59:45See all these basement tattoos, bitch?
- 59:48What up with it? I don't have those.
- 59:51The one I had got covered, but I got I got cooler tattoos.
- 59:54I got fucking Iron Man dog. Hey.
- 59:57For for a fucking basement tattoo the sleeves pretty cool.
- 1:00:01It's colorful. So anyways, your streamers are
- 1:00:04lying to you. Oh my God, it's a spider.
- 1:00:08Oh yeah, streamers are lying constantly Sorry they they
- 1:00:11fucking they, they get paid for what they say half the time.
- 1:00:14Let's. We're just going to brush over
- 1:00:15the fact that I grabbed my mouse, my fucking shoulder, my
- 1:00:19wrist rest and slap. Yeah, I was just going to let it
- 1:00:23go. I'm waiting for you to do that.
- 1:00:25Fucking spider dog. Do it.
- 1:00:28Don't why you guys say that? No, do it.
- 1:00:30Show up, Palpatine. Oh yeah, your, your streamers
- 1:00:33are fucking lying. They don't like any of the games
- 1:00:36they're actually playing. If they say they like it, they
- 1:00:38don't. They say they don't like it.
- 1:00:39They do. I guarantee they do.
- 1:00:41No one is that enthusiastic all of the time.
- 1:00:44Let's be perfectly honest, it's a fucking facade.
- 1:00:47I'm going to put makeup on like professional makeup.
- 1:00:50Not like I'm not going drag. I'll go drag.
- 1:00:52I don't give a fuck. That'd be, but I'm going to put
- 1:00:54professional makeup on like, you know, like the, you know, where
- 1:00:57the light hits and I glow and I'm going to just be like, well,
- 1:01:01this is crazy. Chat will chat, will chat.
- 1:01:05I'm just going to be excused. I'm going to talk like a fucking
- 1:01:07asshole. Oh, I hate them all excused.
- 1:01:11You can get chance too. I show up, give me a.
- 1:01:14Million, check this out. Crow's feet in the corners.
- 1:01:19See this fine. You see this?
- 1:01:22I got vampire eyes Look in my fucking eyes right now.
- 1:01:24Yeah, vampire eyes. It's a fucking raining coming
- 1:01:28out. You ready to wrap this bitch up
- 1:01:31dude? Yeah, let's do it.
- 1:01:33In short, we just want video games to be fun again and I
