- 2:14Speaker 3: Good morning, sir, Welcome to the show.
- 2:16Speaker 5: Good morning, Dave. How's it going.
- 2:18Speaker 3: I am doing fine. It's just not the same man,
- 2:21Speaker 3: when you're not in studio with me.
- 2:22Speaker 5: You know, I know it is so much more fun
- 2:25Speaker 5: to make fun of you live.
- 2:26Speaker 3: That's what I'm thinking. And I enjoy the banter that
- 2:29Speaker 3: we have. You always have complimentary words for me, but
- 2:33Speaker 3: it's just not the same when you're out on the road, man,
- 2:36Speaker 3: Not the same. All right.
- 2:37Speaker 5: Love to say you're doing well, buddy. I'm doing Thanksgiving?
- 2:39Speaker 3: I did, I did. I had a great Thanksgiving. That's
- 2:42Speaker 3: back when the Cowboys were still winning games, you know,
- 2:45Speaker 3: when we beat the Chiefs and but then lost to Minnesota.
- 2:47Speaker 5: And that was back when the Steelers still stunk.
- 2:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Then the Steelers turned it up and they continue their
- 2:52Speaker 3: dominance on Monday Night football. So congratulations to your team, Jamie.
- 2:56Speaker 3: We spent a lot of time on the show talking
- 2:58Speaker 3: about opioids and about story, but I thought I might
- 3:01Speaker 3: let you comment a little bit more this morning, your
- 3:03Speaker 3: office has filed a lawsuit against a PBM, that's pharmacy
- 3:06Speaker 3: benefit manager, this time Optum, which is the PBM of
- 3:09Speaker 3: United Healthcare and its associated companies, which you say have
- 3:13Speaker 3: contributed to the supply of opioids in West Virginia.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Talk about that, Yeah, I think so from a high
- 3:20Speaker 5: level standpoint, what happened was from the pharmacy benefit manager's
- 3:24Speaker 5: standpoint is that when healthcare, particularly after Obamacare, became so
- 3:29Speaker 5: unbelievably complicated that you know, not even lawyers can really
- 3:34Speaker 5: understand what your medical bills mean or look like, the
- 3:38Speaker 5: pharmacy benefit managers managed to place themselves into the market
- 3:42Speaker 5: in a way where they became the ultimate middleman because
- 3:45Speaker 5: they were the only ones that could understand the paperwork
- 3:48Speaker 5: that went in. And so then what happened was is
- 3:50Speaker 5: they created a series of ways in which they could
- 3:52Speaker 5: make a ton more money. And one of those ways
- 3:56Speaker 5: was when they entered the market. The the opioid crisis
- 3:59Speaker 5: was really just arding to fuel and everyone kind of
- 4:01Speaker 5: knew what was happening when they entered the marketplace, and
- 4:04Speaker 5: the and the analogy that I like to use is
- 4:06Speaker 5: that they were handed a blanket and a and a
- 4:09Speaker 5: and a can of gasoline. And in one hand, they
- 4:12Speaker 5: could have taken the blanket and thrown it on this
- 4:14Speaker 5: fire and put it out, But instead they chose to
- 4:17Speaker 5: use the can of gasoline to explode this problem so
- 4:20Speaker 5: that they could make way more money. And so in
- 4:22Speaker 5: some ways, I think the behavior of the PBMs, and
- 4:25Speaker 5: particularly in this instance of Optum, was amongst the most insidious,
- 4:32Speaker 5: because they were they entered the marketplace after the crisis
- 4:35Speaker 5: had begun and and really exacerbated it. And we are
- 4:39Speaker 5: going to hold them accountable for their actions here in
- 4:43Speaker 5: West Virginia in making opioids easier and easier to get,
- 4:47Speaker 5: less expensive to buy, and for rewarding their subservient companies
- 4:52Speaker 5: for prescribing more opioids.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Talking again with Attorney General JB. Mccusky, it was announced
- 4:58Speaker 3: earlier this month that a seven hundred million dollars settlement
- 5:02Speaker 3: had been reached against Google. There a total of fifty
- 5:05Speaker 3: two other attorneys general were a part of this. What's
- 5:08Speaker 3: this all about?
- 5:10Speaker 5: That's almost all the attorney generals now, it is?
- 5:13Speaker 3: It is?
- 5:14Speaker 5: Yeah, So so you know, there's there's a myriad of
- 5:17Speaker 5: these sort of multi state cases and it is very,
- 5:21Speaker 5: very infrequent that every single state is on it, and
- 5:24Speaker 5: in this instance there's there's fifty two of them. This
- 5:26Speaker 5: is a case that involves Google's usage of people's data,
- 5:30Speaker 5: et cetera. And there's a pool of money that will
- 5:33Speaker 5: be available to consumers. And if you go onto our
- 5:36Speaker 5: website WVAGO dot gov, you can find all of the
- 5:41Speaker 5: information you need if you think you are one of
- 5:44Speaker 5: those folks that is affected by by this settlement. It's
- 5:48Speaker 5: easy to find and the forms are easy to fill out.
- 5:51Speaker 3: So what's the what was the major issue with Google here?
- 5:53Speaker 3: I mean everybody uses it, So what was the major
- 5:57Speaker 3: issue here?
- 5:58Speaker 5: Oh, there's a lot lot of issues when you're dealing
- 6:02Speaker 5: in this big tech world, right, they are wheeling and
- 6:05Speaker 5: dealing and changing their technology, et cetera all the time,
- 6:09Speaker 5: and frequently they get a little bit out ahead of
- 6:11Speaker 5: their skis and they start using people's information and data,
- 6:14Speaker 5: et cetera in ways that were not specifically allowed by
- 6:20Speaker 5: the consumer. Meaning you didn't check a box it says
- 6:23Speaker 5: you have authority to take my data in my and
- 6:26Speaker 5: my stuff and sell it to another company to use
- 6:29Speaker 5: for a different purpose.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think that's you know, there are these
- 6:34Speaker 3: websites that you see in advertising on television a lot
- 6:36Speaker 3: talking about totally totally secure search engines and so on
- 6:42Speaker 3: and so forth. I mean, if you believe that Go,
- 6:44Speaker 3: I think is one of them. Okay, well, if you
- 6:46Speaker 3: believe that anything that you search for online, if you
- 6:49Speaker 3: believe you're being protected by any of these companies. I
- 6:52Speaker 3: got some beachfront property in eleanor West Virginia I want
- 6:54Speaker 3: to sell you.
- 6:55Speaker 5: Yeah. Correct, And we live in this world a big
- 6:59Speaker 5: tech And I'm sorry if I don't use all of
- 7:01Speaker 5: the exact right words. I'm kind of a technophyte. I
- 7:05Speaker 5: just missed it right. I'm an elder millennial. Of the
- 7:08Speaker 5: technologies that we're talking about here came to me when
- 7:11Speaker 5: I was in college instead of high school. But you know,
- 7:14Speaker 5: the long and the short of it is is that
- 7:15Speaker 5: data privacy is an immensely important topic. Right now. We
- 7:19Speaker 5: have a couple of more really big cases coming against companies,
- 7:23Speaker 5: some of them with very significant ties to the Chinese government,
- 7:28Speaker 5: are weaseling their way into the lives of Americans and
- 7:31Speaker 5: enabling and that the word spy comes to mind. But
- 7:36Speaker 5: you know the way that these technologies work is they
- 7:39Speaker 5: get into your computer and they enable people in very
- 7:42Speaker 5: remote places, including the Chinese Communist Party, to see and
- 7:46Speaker 5: know what you're doing online. And this is a huge problem,
- 7:49Speaker 5: and it's something that myself and a very large majority
- 7:53Speaker 5: of our of my attorney general colleagues across the country,
- 7:56Speaker 5: in a bipartisan way, are fighting very hard against.
- 8:00Speaker 3: What do switch gears romon. You're calling for increased security
- 8:04Speaker 3: for funding for federal judges.
- 8:06Speaker 5: Why, yeah, Yes, a really really dangerous world out there,
- 8:12Speaker 5: especially if you're somebody who is making very important decisions
- 8:17Speaker 5: that matter to a lot of people. And we saw,
- 8:20Speaker 5: I believe it was two years ago, an absolutely horrific
- 8:23Speaker 5: murder happened at a federal judge's house, And you know,
- 8:27Speaker 5: the world is just increasingly more dangerous, and judges are
- 8:32Speaker 5: increasingly more frequently put into the public sphere, their opinions
- 8:37Speaker 5: are increasingly used online as fodder to sort of incite
- 8:44Speaker 5: these kind of violent behaviors. And there's really nothing more
- 8:48Speaker 5: important to our democracy than ensuring that judges feel safe
- 8:54Speaker 5: to make unbiased rulings, because if they if they feel
- 9:00Speaker 5: as though going one way or the other will cause
- 9:02Speaker 5: them or their family harm, it erodes to the public
- 9:05Speaker 5: confidence in why and how they're making their decisions. So
- 9:08Speaker 5: this is a really important topic. And you know, I
- 9:11Speaker 5: have a lot of friends who are judges too, and
- 9:14Speaker 5: they feel it.
- 9:15Speaker 7: They know, talking to.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Again with Attorney General JV. Mccusky, the buzz letters and
- 9:21Speaker 3: or you know, for the entire year of twenty twenty
- 9:23Speaker 3: five or AI JB. That's what everybody's talking about. And
- 9:27Speaker 3: your office has got concerns about the ever growing dependency
- 9:32Speaker 3: that we have in many circles about AI. There was
- 9:35Speaker 3: another coalition of about forty Attorneys generals and getting together
- 9:39Speaker 3: on something related to AI. Talk about that.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Yeah, So I like to tell people, Dave that you
- 9:44Speaker 5: are naturally intelligent, but I am artificially int I'm on peds.
- 9:50Speaker 5: But what we're talking about in terms of artificial intelligence
- 9:54Speaker 5: in large part right now is the protection of children
- 9:57Speaker 5: and what these chatbots have been doing. And you know,
- 10:01Speaker 5: it's just a part of this technology that nobody had
- 10:03Speaker 5: a handle on but really really should have because the
- 10:06Speaker 5: danger is very real is that if somebody gets on
- 10:09Speaker 5: an AI chatbot and starts explaining that they're suicidal or
- 10:13Speaker 5: that they you know, they have these grand plans to
- 10:16Speaker 5: you know, murder their family and then kill themselves or whatever.
- 10:19Speaker 5: These chatbots are not telling them not to and they're
- 10:23Speaker 5: not alerting anybody these chatbots, and I can point you
- 10:28Speaker 5: and your listeners to a myriad of screenshots of these
- 10:31Speaker 5: chatbots in the wake of suicides and murders. The chatbots
- 10:34Speaker 5: are saying that is a good plan. You need to
- 10:37Speaker 5: honor your feelings, you need to make sure that you're
- 10:39Speaker 5: taking care of yourself and your needs, et cetera, instead
- 10:42Speaker 5: of responding with you need to go to a mental
- 10:45Speaker 5: health professional, or you need to go find your parents
- 10:47Speaker 5: right now and tell them you know you're sick and
- 10:50Speaker 5: you need help. And it is part of the way
- 10:54Speaker 5: that these chatbots are designed to like self actualize the
- 10:58Speaker 5: person with which they're speaking, and there's been countless examples
- 11:02Speaker 5: across the country where extreme tragedies have been it caused
- 11:08Speaker 5: is maybe the right word, but definitely exacerbated by kids
- 11:13Speaker 5: who are having huge mental health crisses turning to these
- 11:18Speaker 5: AI chatbots for help and for them to actually push
- 11:22Speaker 5: them into the violent cause of action course of action
- 11:26Speaker 5: that ends in tragedy.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Before we let you go, I want to just ask,
- 11:30Speaker 3: is there anything particular on your mind? I don't know
- 11:33Speaker 3: that you will be on the show. You're always welcome,
- 11:35Speaker 3: but I don't know what you'll be on the show
- 11:36Speaker 3: until after the new year. Of course, Christmas is coming
- 11:39Speaker 3: up next week. Any anything on your mind related to
- 11:41Speaker 3: that or anything any It's short time, buddy, I'm giving
- 11:44Speaker 3: it to you so well.
- 11:46Speaker 5: This is like at the right before the election when
- 11:48Speaker 5: you give people five minutes to their elevators.
- 11:51Speaker 3: But yeah, you're always welcome, you come on any time.
- 11:53Speaker 3: But I'm just saying that. You know, I know that
- 11:55Speaker 3: you're very much will be involved in the whole family
- 11:58Speaker 3: thing as well. You should be, so I don't know
- 12:00Speaker 3: how much time you'd have it. You're always welcome, you
- 12:02Speaker 3: and the girls are always welcome here on the show.
- 12:04Speaker 3: But I'm thought giving a little opportunity.
- 12:06Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I think you know, for me this holiday
- 12:09Speaker 5: season in particular, you know, we got kids that are
- 12:12Speaker 5: ten and eight years old. You don't know how many
- 12:15Speaker 5: more of these kinds of Christmases you're going to have,
- 12:18Speaker 5: and so just taking a minute to slow down. Life's
- 12:20Speaker 5: really really hard. You know for a lot of people.
- 12:24Speaker 5: There's everybody works too much. Everybody's just running around like
- 12:27Speaker 5: crazy people, and you know, just take a minute and
- 12:30Speaker 5: take a deep breath and realize how grateful you should
- 12:33Speaker 5: be for the things that are going great in your life.
- 12:35Speaker 5: And you know, everybody's got stuff that isn't doesn't make
- 12:40Speaker 5: them happy, but everybody's got stuff in their lives where
- 12:44Speaker 5: they could find the people that love them and the
- 12:45Speaker 5: people that care about them. And take a deep breath
- 12:47Speaker 5: and really think about all the things in your life
- 12:50Speaker 5: that are awesome. Because I think that's you know, that's
- 12:54Speaker 5: that's that's the reason why these holidays are so special
- 12:58Speaker 5: is because you can you can think back to fifty
- 13:00Speaker 5: years down the road and say, man, you know, I
- 13:02Speaker 5: really had a blessed life and I was surrounded by
- 13:05Speaker 5: people that love me.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Good way to leave it. That's that's pretty good stuff
- 13:09Speaker 3: right there from you, mister Attorney General.
- 13:10Speaker 5: You asked just.
- 13:12Speaker 3: Rowing off the top of your head, and it wasn't
- 13:13Speaker 3: even AI.
- 13:14Speaker 5: Right, No, that was natural intelligence. And I will say
- 13:17Speaker 5: that if anybody wants to comment on that, I always
- 13:20Speaker 5: love to say you can call into the Bigley Pickley Wikly.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Highline, yeah, or or the text line from Tony to Taylor,
- 13:26Speaker 3: either one.
- 13:27Speaker 5: But Tony the Taylor text line, yes, right. I mean,

- 17:30Speaker 3: there's no way that's not real. Yeah, it turns out
- 17:32Speaker 3: it was real, and so you want to weigh in
- 17:34Speaker 3: on that you can. I've already got a few texts
- 17:36Speaker 3: about it, but you're always welcome to text, and we'll
- 17:38Speaker 3: get to that coming up a little bit later on.
- 17:40Speaker 3: You can call it a text me anytime. Big Lely Pigley

- 17:45Speaker 3: fifty eight. Tony the Taylor Text three zero four nine
- 17:48Speaker 3: three five five zero zero. Waight's welcome to the show now,
- 17:50Speaker 3: Democratic candidate for Senate District seventeen, Wesley Holding, Good morning
- 17:53Speaker 3: and welcome to the show, sir.
- 17:56Speaker 10: Good morning to you, and thank you for having me
- 17:58Speaker 10: on your show so that I can announce that I'm
- 18:01Speaker 10: running for the seventeenth Senate district, which covers most of
- 18:06Speaker 10: Kanawha County.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Why you're somebody that's run for office before, You've been
- 18:11Speaker 3: around politics for a long time. I'm going to get
- 18:13Speaker 3: to your bio in just a minute. But why is
- 18:15Speaker 3: it that you want to be state center out of
- 18:16Speaker 3: District seventeen.
- 18:18Speaker 10: Well, if we look around the state in the county,
- 18:22Speaker 10: and for many residents at kanaw County, West Virginia is
- 18:27Speaker 10: not almost heaven. People are struggling to make ends meet,
- 18:31Speaker 10: and most of their elected representatives just don't seem to care.
- 18:35Speaker 10: Then you take a look at their legislative record and
- 18:38Speaker 10: it shows that they're working on behalf of wealthy donors
- 18:41Speaker 10: special interest rather than ordinary folks. That's why I'm running
- 18:46Speaker 10: for the seventeenth district. Our legislature is out of touch
- 18:50Speaker 10: with the people at West Virginia, and I feel that
- 18:53Speaker 10: any political party that can't stand on the merits to
- 18:57Speaker 10: improve the lives of workers don't deserve to be re elected.
- 19:02Speaker 10: And I believe the residents of Kanawa County deserve a
- 19:05Speaker 10: senator who generally cares about them and helps to make
- 19:09Speaker 10: their lives better. And West Virginians are being crushed under
- 19:13Speaker 10: the weight of inflation. And with my background and as
- 19:16Speaker 10: a result of working for Senator Jay Rockefeller for thirty
- 19:19Speaker 10: eight years, I'm confident that I understand like few others
- 19:26Speaker 10: the problems facing our people, especially those struggling to get
- 19:30Speaker 10: ahead and those who are left behind. And West Virginians,
- 19:34Speaker 10: our people are not dumb. They're looking for a senator
- 19:38Speaker 10: that shows up at city council meetings, who isn't afraid
- 19:41Speaker 10: to talk to members of the community at the grocery store,
- 19:45Speaker 10: farmers' markets in rural communities, and at various public events,
- 19:50Speaker 10: and especially a senator who will not be a public
- 19:53Speaker 10: to political interests that want to take our rights away.
- 19:57Speaker 10: A senator who stands up in fights for him. And
- 20:00Speaker 10: I'm running because I believe Canaw County and West Virginians
- 20:04Speaker 10: are worth fighting for. And I have a strong track
- 20:07Speaker 10: record of getting things done to improve people's lives, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 10: like helping people get FEMA assistants when their homes were flooding.
- 20:15Speaker 10: I work with many miners and widows to obtain their
- 20:19Speaker 10: Black Along benefits. And I also help hundreds of veterans
- 20:23Speaker 10: with their claims by cutting through red tape. And mostly
- 20:27Speaker 10: I'm tired of West Virginia being ranked as forty eight
- 20:32Speaker 10: forty ninth in the country. We can do better and
- 20:35Speaker 10: every West Virginian deserves the opportunity to succeed. And for that,
- 20:41Speaker 10: we need to improve education, increase job training opportunities, and
- 20:46Speaker 10: provide affordable healthcare. Our people deserve better than what they're
- 20:51Speaker 10: getting from the so called representatives at the state House.
- 20:55Speaker 10: These politicians are not representing their constituents, not doing their job,
- 21:02Speaker 10: and West Virginians want their elected leaders to focus on
- 21:05Speaker 10: what really matters, such as bringing down, the cost of living,
- 21:10Speaker 10: the cost of doing business, the cost of healthcare, electricity,
- 21:14Speaker 10: natural gas. We want a more fairer tax system, better education,
- 21:19Speaker 10: workforce development, and job creation. And I feel these are
- 21:23Speaker 10: the issues that are on the minds of the citizens
- 21:26Speaker 10: of Kamala County.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Talking to Wes Holden again, who is a Democrat running
- 21:31Speaker 3: for States in the District seventeen, some of those things
- 21:33Speaker 3: that you mentioned there West, like, for example, affordability that
- 21:36Speaker 3: seems to be the buzzword as you know these days,
- 21:37Speaker 3: and inflation and things of that nature. As a state senator,
- 21:41Speaker 3: as a legislator in Charleston, what can you do about that?
- 21:47Speaker 7: Well, the.
- 21:49Speaker 10: Legislators and what our government needs to do is represent
- 21:54Speaker 10: the people. And you know, being a state senator is
- 21:56Speaker 10: not having a title or belonging to a social club.
- 22:00Speaker 10: We have to pass legislation and work on ideas that
- 22:05Speaker 10: you know, you have to think out.
- 22:06Speaker 5: Of the box.
- 22:08Speaker 10: You know, I travel to other states and been around
- 22:11Speaker 10: you know, the country, and I look at things and
- 22:15Speaker 10: you see what people are doing or read about this
- 22:19Speaker 10: or that. It doesn't take a master, brilliant strategician to
- 22:24Speaker 10: understand what's going on. I think we can be doing
- 22:27Speaker 10: that in West Virginia, unfortunately, our legislature seems to be
- 22:32Speaker 10: focusing on issues that don't really matter and don't improve
- 22:37Speaker 10: the lives of fellow West Virginians.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Give me an example of some of those issues, Wes
- 22:41Speaker 3: that you think that the legislature, perhaps in the past,
- 22:44Speaker 3: is focused on that you don't think, in your words,
- 22:47Speaker 3: would improve the live Can you give us an example, Well,
- 22:51Speaker 3: just take.
- 22:51Speaker 10: One example that comes to mind. You know, they got
- 22:54Speaker 10: focused on keeping boys out of girls' bathrooms or transgender sports.
- 23:02Speaker 10: From what I understand, there is only one transgender person
- 23:06Speaker 10: up in the northern part of the state, and that
- 23:09Speaker 10: really didn't you know, I might agree with those issues,
- 23:12Speaker 10: but to keep your time and focus on in your
- 23:16Speaker 10: political campaign on a single issue that doesn't matter to
- 23:21Speaker 10: most West Virginians. Those are things that bother me the most,
- 23:25Speaker 10: and I feel as a legislator, I want to be accountable.
- 23:31Speaker 10: I want to listen to what are on the lines
- 23:34Speaker 10: of the people instead of following along with someone's political agenda.
- 23:38Speaker 10: And when the governor or the Senate president is not
- 23:43Speaker 10: doing those things, I want to call them out and say, look,
- 23:46Speaker 10: we need to be focusing on what matters to people.
- 23:50Speaker 10: Not these little sideline gotcha issues.
- 23:53Speaker 3: You mentioned your time in working for Senator Rockefeller. Give
- 23:57Speaker 3: us a little bit more of your bio for people
- 23:59Speaker 3: that may know who you are. You're quite well known
- 24:02Speaker 3: in West Virginia political circles, but to talk about your
- 24:04Speaker 3: work there with Rockefeller and just talk about your bio
- 24:06Speaker 3: in general, who are you?
- 24:07Speaker 10: Well, I'm a tenth generation West Virginia and my family's
- 24:12Speaker 10: been here for a super long time, back in the
- 24:15Speaker 10: days when the Indians are running around. I'm a decorated
- 24:19Speaker 10: Army veteran. I received the Department of the Army's highest
- 24:24Speaker 10: the word for heroism. I'm a veteran Vietnam War error.
- 24:29Speaker 10: Excuse me, got a little tongue tied right, A veteran
- 24:32Speaker 10: of the Vietnam Not a Vietnam veteran, but a Vietnam
- 24:36Speaker 10: War era veteran. And I joined when Vietnam was going on,
- 24:42Speaker 10: and fortunately or unfortunately, it all depends how you look
- 24:45Speaker 10: at And instead of being sent to Vietnam, I got
- 24:50Speaker 10: sent to Germany.
- 24:51Speaker 3: And I was.
- 24:53Speaker 10: A deputy State Director and I was in charge of
- 24:56Speaker 10: constituent services. And one of the things that I did,
- 25:01Speaker 10: I could tell you a story after a story of
- 25:03Speaker 10: how I helped people, not necessarily for federal claims, but people.
- 25:10Speaker 10: There's a guy, the first guy that I remember helping,
- 25:13Speaker 10: came to me as riverbank was falling in and coming
- 25:18Speaker 10: up close to his home, and he said, I got
- 25:20Speaker 10: to save my home. He said, I've been to the
- 25:23Speaker 10: other congressional offices, governor's offices, and they turned them down.
- 25:28Speaker 10: And so I was sitting there thinking, what if it
- 25:32Speaker 10: was me, who is going to help me? And that's
- 25:37Speaker 10: what made me so successful as Senator Rockefeller and people,
- 25:43Speaker 10: you know, even other congressional offices, I mean even people
- 25:45Speaker 10: from other states. We can't help you, but call West
- 25:50Speaker 10: and you know, I didn't have no guidebook, but I
- 25:53Speaker 10: had to think out of the seat, out of the
- 25:56Speaker 10: box and try to help people. That's what I did,
- 25:59Speaker 10: and that's what I want to do for the people
- 26:02Speaker 10: in the seventeenth district, you know, instead of politics as
- 26:06Speaker 10: usual forget. You know, I'm not running to make you know,
- 26:11Speaker 10: the Democratic Party what it used to be. I'm running
- 26:15Speaker 10: for the people of the seventeenth district. And that's what
- 26:18Speaker 10: people want to be. A true legislator, someone who cares
- 26:22Speaker 10: listen just to their concerns, and more than that act
- 26:26Speaker 10: on them.
- 26:27Speaker 3: You were talking with Wes Holden, who's a Democrat for
- 26:31Speaker 3: State Center run down District seventeen. Now the currently seat
- 26:34Speaker 3: is held by a Republican. You are a Democrat, as
- 26:37Speaker 3: you've mentioned, and I've mentioned, it's not always easy these days, Wes,
- 26:40Speaker 3: for a Democrat to gain any traction in West Virginia.
- 26:43Speaker 10: Talk about that, Well, that is a fact. But I
- 26:47Speaker 10: think if we you know, just much as I mentioned,
- 26:52Speaker 10: if we take a look at their track record, they're
- 26:57Speaker 10: not representing the people they're going after can legislation, and
- 27:03Speaker 10: I think today if people would look, you know, be
- 27:08Speaker 10: seriously informed, what has this governor, what has this legislature
- 27:15Speaker 10: been doing for the people of West Virginia, let's say,
- 27:18Speaker 10: in the past ten years, not really doing anything. We
- 27:22Speaker 10: see unemployment increasing, we see jobs closing, we see schools closing.
- 27:30Speaker 10: Someone needs to put the brakes on and try to
- 27:33Speaker 10: figure out not necessarily we know what's wrong, but what
- 27:36Speaker 10: are we going to do about it? And you know,
- 27:39Speaker 10: when we are worked for Senator Rockefeller, Jay was very
- 27:43Speaker 10: good about bringing people from outside the state, working with
- 27:47Speaker 10: the Office of Economic Development, working with the Tourism Bureau,
- 27:52Speaker 10: and we would bring people in. We call it the
- 27:56Speaker 10: J train, and we'd go visit different sites and and
- 28:00Speaker 10: try to fit their business with what West Virginia can do.
- 28:06Speaker 10: But unfortunately, one of the things that we have to
- 28:09Speaker 10: do is improve our education so that we have an
- 28:13Speaker 10: educated workforce. And that is one of the primary things
- 28:18Speaker 10: I want to work on is education.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Let's talk about getting people to stay in West Virginia, Wes.
- 28:26Speaker 3: You know that is an issue and the Republican your
- 28:28Speaker 3: Republican counterparts would would agree the same, the same issue.
- 28:32Speaker 3: We just aren't getting our young people to want to
- 28:35Speaker 3: stay in West Virginia. There have been various programs designed
- 28:39Speaker 3: to bring people into the Mountain States. We've seen those
- 28:43Speaker 3: in Charleston, Elkins, some of these other areas to take
- 28:45Speaker 3: Morgans out to take a part in those. But what
- 28:47Speaker 3: do we need to do to make West Virginia a
- 28:50Speaker 3: states Because we're losing population. And we're not just losing
- 28:54Speaker 3: population because people are dying off. There are people that
- 28:57Speaker 3: are choosing not to live in West Virginia for one reason.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Another are either residents that are moving out of state
- 29:01Speaker 3: or people maybe that aren't looking to West Virginia as
- 29:05Speaker 3: a choice. What do we need to do to market
- 29:07Speaker 3: West Virginia, perhaps two West Virginians to make them want
- 29:10Speaker 3: to stay here.
- 29:12Speaker 10: Well, first off, if you look at it, most of
- 29:16Speaker 10: our base are older people. Young people cannot find jobs.
- 29:23Speaker 10: So and let's say you're wanting to move to West Virginia,
- 29:27Speaker 10: what are you going to look at. You're going to
- 29:29Speaker 10: look at our schools, You're going to look for a
- 29:32Speaker 10: clean environment. You know, Kanawah County is blessed because we
- 29:36Speaker 10: have a lot of those good things. But last year
- 29:39Speaker 10: I ran as an independent for Congress and as a
- 29:44Speaker 10: legislator for Kanah County, but also you're being a Senator
- 29:48Speaker 10: for the state of West Virginia. It's a much bigger problem,
- 29:53Speaker 10: and I just felt so bad. You know, those areas
- 29:59Speaker 10: of economic divis elements that can be brought in, and
- 30:02Speaker 10: we have to, you know, work with small mom and
- 30:07Speaker 10: pop businesses. Those are the root, the basic foundation of
- 30:14Speaker 10: building people. So if we could help more small businesses
- 30:18Speaker 10: get started. And you know, with what Secretary PAC's doing,
- 30:23Speaker 10: you know, he has a lot of good ideas, and
- 30:28Speaker 10: you know, just because it's a Republican idea, I'm not
- 30:31Speaker 10: afraid of working with that. I'm just want to work
- 30:35Speaker 10: with them to try to make things better. And we
- 30:38Speaker 10: need people who think ahead instead of being caught up
- 30:41Speaker 10: in local politics.
- 30:44Speaker 3: But Dave Alan's showing five Any Lives has brought you
- 30:46Speaker 3: a part. But I Live Healthy West Virginia presented by
- 30:48Speaker 3: WVU Medicine, a podcast promoting healthier lifestyles and to beyond
- 30:51Speaker 3: the state check have a leave. This episode's wv Metronews
- 30:53Speaker 3: dot com and of the podcast mean you uh We's
- 30:56Speaker 3: where can people learn more about your campaign?
- 30:59Speaker 10: Well? I have the campaign's website, West for West Virginia Senate.
- 31:05Speaker 10: You can go there and the website should be opening
- 31:08Speaker 10: up and they can just look at my Facebook post
- 31:13Speaker 10: West for West or West or West Virginia Senat or
- 31:16Speaker 10: even look at what I stand for. But many people
- 31:20Speaker 10: when I campaigned last year, many people remember me and
- 31:24Speaker 10: out of the clear blue when I'd be talking to
- 31:27Speaker 10: them wherever, and they say, don't you remember me? You
- 31:30Speaker 10: helped me with this, you helped me with that. And
- 31:33Speaker 10: I think that's what people are looking for in a legislator.
- 31:37Speaker 10: They're not looking for some figurehead or party head. They're
- 31:41Speaker 10: looking for someone who cares about the people. And that's
- 31:45Speaker 10: what and that's why I want to get involved. I
- 31:47Speaker 10: could be doing other things, but I care about the people.
- 31:52Speaker 10: As I also said, I'm a tenth generation West Virginian
- 31:57Speaker 10: and my roots are here. You know, my heart is here,
- 32:02Speaker 10: and that's why I'm here and I want to do something.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Wesley Holding, a Democrat running for State Senati District seventeen,
- 32:11Speaker 3: pleasure to have you on the show. We wish you

- 32:19Speaker 10: to address the challenges facing us in West Virginia and
- 32:23Speaker 10: build a future that's worthy of our highest aspirations. We
- 32:27Speaker 10: can do better, we must do better, and the future
- 32:30Speaker 10: of West Virginia is in our hands.
- 32:32Speaker 3: All right, sounds good, We'll talk soon.
- 32:34Speaker 5: Thanks a lot, thank you.

- 37:33Speaker 3: Metro News Midday with thirteen News and Tonight Live anchor
- 37:35Speaker 3: Amanda Bearon and Me powered by Selango Law. We got
- 37:39Speaker 3: a lot of stuff I want to get to in
- 37:40Speaker 3: the news today. There's a big announcement actually came yesterday
- 37:44Speaker 3: out to Marshall University, so we're going to get into
- 37:46Speaker 3: that story. Coming up a little bit later on, plus
- 37:48Speaker 3: Jeff Jenkins with the news and more. Metro News Midday
- 37:50Speaker 3: again powered by Selango Law. Coming up with Amanda Baron
- 37:52Speaker 3: from thirteen News and May noon to three today on
- 37:55Speaker 3: this show. Tomorrow, good friend Millie Snyder is going to
- 37:58Speaker 3: be here also another ant it for twenty twenty six.
- 38:01Speaker 3: We'll join us Mike called Masteller. He's a Democrat running
- 38:04Speaker 3: for House in District twenty one. He'll join us on
- 38:07Speaker 3: the show coming up tomorrow. Quick editor's note, programming note.
- 38:11Speaker 3: I actually have a couple of those today. It's always
- 38:13Speaker 3: a good time when I get to go on the
- 38:14Speaker 3: air with Northern Dave as in Dave Wilson talk Line
- 38:18Speaker 3: co host and unless his words, unless I can find
- 38:21Speaker 3: someone better or more interesting between now to eleven thirty,
- 38:25Speaker 3: He's asked me to join him on talk line today
- 38:27Speaker 3: at eleven thirty. I don't exactly know what we're going
- 38:28Speaker 3: to talk about, but we will find something. Of course,
- 38:31Speaker 3: it's always interesting. As I said, when Wilson and I
- 38:34Speaker 3: get together, maybe we'll get into that idea that a
- 38:39Speaker 3: text to Metro News Midday had last week that we
- 38:41Speaker 3: do a calendar featuring all the Daves in this company
- 38:45Speaker 3: and we call it Holla Dave's with me and Wilson
- 38:49Speaker 3: and Weekly and Dave Jacqueline. Interesting idea anyway, I probably
- 38:55Speaker 3: as the way it's looking right now, if you can't
- 38:56Speaker 3: get someone better. TJ's on vacation this week. I'll be
- 38:59Speaker 3: in with Wilson around eleven thirty today on talk line.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Of course, I'll come back later for Metro News at midday,
- 39:05Speaker 3: and speaking to calendars, there was a night them in
- 39:07Speaker 3: the news. I'll tell you this real quick, and there
- 39:11Speaker 3: are particular communities here in the Kanawl Valley in the
- 39:14Speaker 3: governmental branches that may may be struggling a little bit
- 39:17Speaker 3: for cash. But I want to check into this. I
- 39:19Speaker 3: read an article over the weekend from the Wall Street
- 39:22Speaker 3: Journal about a small town not in West Virginia that
- 39:25Speaker 3: was struggling for funds and the people around the town
- 39:29Speaker 3: created a nude or semi nude calendar of the people
- 39:34Speaker 3: in town to raise money, and apparently it was a
- 39:37Speaker 3: big hit. So apparently if you need quick funds for
- 39:43Speaker 3: your town, that's the way to do it. Now, I
- 39:46Speaker 3: want to try not to keep that mental image burned
- 39:49Speaker 3: in my head. The whole town in this case turned
- 39:51Speaker 3: to OnlyFans, So just saying you might want to leg
- 39:56Speaker 3: into it, because apparently worked for them. All right, So
- 39:58Speaker 3: I said, I had a programming note for you. Tomorrow
- 40:00Speaker 3: will be one week away from Christmas Eve, and we're
- 40:03Speaker 3: going to be doing our traditional Jewish Christmas spectacular that
- 40:07Speaker 3: we call it the thing that I've been doing on
- 40:09Speaker 3: the local show for a few years now. I'll be
- 40:10Speaker 3: joined by state Democratic Party chair in Delegate Mike Pushkin,
- 40:13Speaker 3: but not in a political way, So one day of
- 40:17Speaker 3: the year that we go politics free, just Mike and
- 40:21Speaker 3: his guitar, but he's not alone. Bringing one of my
- 40:23Speaker 3: favorite bands here from the Valley, Amos Steel. They are
- 40:27Speaker 3: going to be in studio with Mike. You may have
- 40:30Speaker 3: heard these guys a couple of weeks ago on the
- 40:31Speaker 3: show that they did just prior to their album drop
- 40:34Speaker 3: party over at Marty Gras, and these guys rock and
- 40:37Speaker 3: they're going to be with us. Tony the Taylor, who
- 40:39Speaker 3: sort of serves as the manager of those guys, who
- 40:42Speaker 3: is going to join us in the studio, and who
- 40:43Speaker 3: knows what other people from the musical world we may
- 40:45Speaker 3: be bringing in A big shout out to Richard Lindsay
- 40:48Speaker 3: in family as that will be sponsoring the show as
- 40:49Speaker 3: they did last year, and I'm going to do something
- 40:52Speaker 3: on the show a little bit different this year. Of course,
- 40:54Speaker 3: we're going to give you a full fifty two minutes
- 40:57Speaker 3: or whatever it breaks down to after commercials of Christmas music.
- 41:00Speaker 3: I'll let Mike and the guys that am to Steel
- 41:02Speaker 3: handle that I'm going to extend an invitation to some
- 41:07Speaker 3: of my frequent guests on the program, some from the
- 41:10Speaker 3: world of politics, some not a Republican Democrats to stop
- 41:13Speaker 3: by the studio for the show. So all the mayors Goodwin, James,
- 41:16Speaker 3: the Saint Albans, Case Bolden, Nitro, Frank Mullins from South Charleston,
- 41:19Speaker 3: Randy Barrett, Winfield, Scott Edwards from Hurricane, Kay Summers from Clintena,
- 41:23Speaker 3: all all invited to a tent. I know I left
- 41:25Speaker 3: one or two out, but I'm just saying, all, consider
- 41:28Speaker 3: this your official invite. Our local delegates jb Acres, Kaylee Young,
- 41:31Speaker 3: Kathy Heskraus, Sarah Drennan, Jared Cannon, Roger Hanshaw, Dean Jefferys,
- 41:36Speaker 3: David Ferrell, Andy Shamlin, Wald Hall, Hollis Lewis, Tristan Levatreesa.
- 41:40Speaker 3: How you're all invited to attend? To our senators from
- 41:43Speaker 3: tar Grady, Zach Maynard, Glenn Jeffries, Tom Tacubo, Sharonock, You're
- 41:48Speaker 3: all invited. Who else can we throw in there? Commissioners
- 41:52Speaker 3: Natalie Tennant, Ben Selango and lancewe are all invited. The
- 41:54Speaker 3: Commissioners of Putnam County invited, Sheriff Crawford, Greg Thomas, our
- 42:00Speaker 3: journalistic friends, Steven Allen, Adams, Amelia Nicely, Jim Workman. You
- 42:03Speaker 3: get the idea. They're all invited. Maybe the first radio
- 42:06Speaker 3: show in history ever to be shut down by the
- 42:08Speaker 3: fire Marshall, some of our friends in the building from
- 42:10Speaker 3: V one hundred and KWS and the Mountain the Beat.
- 42:13Speaker 3: I'm going to stop by too. It's gonna be a
- 42:15Speaker 3: big old party, and I hope you'll tune in to
- 42:17Speaker 3: the annual Jewish Christmas Spectacular brought to you by Richard
- 42:21Speaker 3: Lindsay and Family, coming up on the show one week
- 42:23Speaker 3: from tomorrow. But Dave Allen Show in five e D

- 42:35Speaker 3: So it gets to President's President Trump's comments and the
- 42:40Speaker 3: death of actor and director Rob Ryer Reiner, of course

- 42:44Speaker 3: Their son has been taken into custody. Looks like he
- 42:46Speaker 3: will probably more than likely be charged with murder. So
- 42:50Speaker 3: the comment posted on Truth's Social by the President yesterday
- 42:55Speaker 3: was as follows, A very sad thing happened last night
- 42:58Speaker 3: in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling but once
- 43:01Speaker 3: very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away
- 43:05Speaker 3: together with his wife Michelle, reportedly due to his anger
- 43:09Speaker 3: he calls others through his massive, unyielding and incurable affliction
- 43:14Speaker 3: with a mind crippling disease known as Trump Derangement syndrome,
- 43:18Speaker 3: sometimes referred to as TDS. He was known to have
- 43:21Speaker 3: driven people crazy by his raging obsession. President Donald J.
- 43:26Speaker 3: Trump editors note this is Donald Trump talking about Donald
- 43:29Speaker 3: Trump with this obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the
- 43:33Speaker 3: Trump administrations surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness and
- 43:37Speaker 3: with the golden age of AMERICAUP honors perhaps like never before.
- 43:40Speaker 3: May Rob and Michelle rest in peace. Comments posted on
- 43:44Speaker 3: Truth's Social from President Donald Trump yesterday, and I read

- 46:54Speaker 3: She released a video yesterday that she'll be running for reelection,
- 46:57Speaker 3: and then she appeared a METRONWS talk line yesterday with
- 47:00Speaker 3: Wilson to talk about it. Texas great to hear, goes
- 47:03Speaker 3: Shelley Moore Capito. Proud you're working for the people of
- 47:06Speaker 3: our states. As a Texter, Texter says, time to have
- 47:10Speaker 3: Mike push get on. So much going on need his perspective.
- 47:12Speaker 3: When I actually talked to Pushkin yesterday, we were texting
- 47:15Speaker 3: back and forth about something totally unrelated. Of course, he'll
- 47:17Speaker 3: be part of the Jewish Christmas Spectacular next week on
- 47:21Speaker 3: Christmas Eve morning. But when I talked to Mike yesterday,
- 47:24Speaker 3: he had I don't know what he's doing, but he
- 47:25Speaker 3: was in Chicago when I talked to him yesterday. He
- 47:27Speaker 3: was had just touched down in Chicago when I talked
- 47:31Speaker 3: to mister Pushkin. But you know, Mike's always welcome on
- 47:33Speaker 3: the show. But he will definitely be here next week
- 47:36Speaker 3: for the non political Jewish Christmas Spectacular. Tex says, what
- 47:43Speaker 3: do we expect for our senior senator to not criticize
- 47:48Speaker 3: Trump for his disgraceful and deranged comments. Her silence equals
- 47:51Speaker 3: support and consensus. This is not another person who deserves
- 47:55Speaker 3: to represent West Virginia if she backs someone who has
- 47:57Speaker 3: no common decency, says the text. What many and I
- 48:01Speaker 3: can't speak for Senator Shilly more Capital, but what many
- 48:04Speaker 3: people in the Republican party will say to you is
- 48:08Speaker 3: that they are in line with the president's economic policies,
- 48:12Speaker 3: they're in line with what things he's done at the border,
- 48:15Speaker 3: but many of them wish that he'd put the phone down.
- 48:20Speaker 3: I am not a fan of any president, Republican, Democrat, whatever,
- 48:26Speaker 3: being on social media. I mean, I'm just I'm just
- 48:30Speaker 3: not and it's not a good look for any president.
- 48:33Speaker 3: And I was talking to somebody earlier this morning, and
- 48:36Speaker 3: this is a very very good analogy, who said, it's
- 48:40Speaker 3: what the President Trump needs is a phone that's actually
- 48:44Speaker 3: not connected to anything. And this person said, I give
- 48:46Speaker 3: it to my niece. He said, I give it to
- 48:49Speaker 3: my niece, and she thinks she's posting on social media.
- 48:54Speaker 3: She thinks that she's texting people, but she's not. And
- 48:58Speaker 3: perhaps maybe that's what we should do with the And
- 49:00Speaker 3: this was not my idea of this was one of
- 49:01Speaker 3: my buddies ideas I was talking to earlier this morning.
- 49:04Speaker 3: So maybe that's what we do, is we give we
- 49:06Speaker 3: give Trump, we give President Trump a phone, and we
- 49:09Speaker 3: tell him that he's put posting on social media.
- 49:12Speaker 6: But I don't know that.

- 50:45Speaker 3: part of Metro News Midday. Urged to go over to
- 50:47Speaker 3: the website and read the story. Yesterday on Hotline, Mister
- 50:51Speaker 3: Weekly had an interview on the show yesterday with Brian
- 50:56Speaker 3: por the head coach of West Virginia State University, and
- 50:58Speaker 3: this was a from I did know this athlete at all.

- 51:01Speaker 3: We cover West Virginia State on our sister station one
- 51:04Speaker 3: of seven three the Beat, and haven't had a chance

- 51:08Speaker 3: Haven't had a chance to doctor Daniel Woods about that,
- 51:10Speaker 3: but I can I can tell you that this young
- 51:13Speaker 3: man seemed to be from what we understand the picture
- 51:15Speaker 3: of health you never know what happened. A matter of fact,
- 51:20Speaker 3: have you heard the interview I listened to it this
- 51:21Speaker 3: morning that Brian Poorr did on Hotline yesterday. He talked
- 51:27Speaker 3: about that the two had just played pac Man not
- 51:30Speaker 3: long ago, and I think if I heard the interview correctly,
- 51:33Speaker 3: that coach Poorr said that Smith was trying that Ishmael
- 51:37Speaker 3: Smith was trying to top his his all time record
- 51:40Speaker 3: on the pac Man. But regardless, it as a tragic story.
- 51:44Speaker 3: And again we have the story posted at wv metro
- 51:46Speaker 3: news dot com. You know, getting back to the President's
- 51:50Speaker 3: situation on social media, here's just fro a moment. I've
- 51:52Speaker 3: said it, and I've said it time and time again.
- 51:54Speaker 3: It is not a good look. I don't like our
- 51:56Speaker 3: I don't think our people ought to be interacting any
- 52:00Speaker 3: life that official with people on social media. That's just me,
- 52:03Speaker 3: but the MAGA crowd loves it. I had text to

- 52:11Speaker 3: said about Rob Rner because of the things Rob Briner
- 52:13Speaker 3: had said about him. So that's that's where we are,
