Transcript
- 0:21Speaker 1: Hey, Hey, Emily a Body here coming back with five
- 0:26Speaker 1: Minute Friday. I'll be honest. While I was on hiatus
- 0:30Speaker 1: season break, the most requested where is this episode of
- 0:36Speaker 1: the week is without his out five Minute Friday, which
- 0:38Speaker 1: is interesting to me because the Monday episodes definitely get
- 0:42Speaker 1: a little bit more listener ship than this. I'm curious
- 0:48Speaker 1: as I am kicking off this new season, and a
- 0:51Speaker 1: huge thank you to so many of you who welcomed
- 0:53Speaker 1: in the newest season of Hurdle with open arms over
- 0:56Speaker 1: on social media for that, I am so grateful for
- 0:59Speaker 1: you to share the episodes, to share the podcast, to
- 1:03Speaker 1: tag it, to rate it, to review it.
- 1:05Speaker 2: It all means the world to me.
- 1:06Speaker 1: But I am curious at the top of this new season.

- 1:27Speaker 1: And if you have a specific question or if you
- 1:30Speaker 1: want anything at all, you can feel free to always, always,
- 1:34Speaker 1: always ask me a question via the leave me a
- 1:38Speaker 1: voice message link in the show notes.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I love your voice messages. I love hearing from you.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It is the best part of my day when one
- 1:46Speaker 1: of these emails pops in That tells me that someone
- 1:48Speaker 1: else is in there. So go ahead, do it, try it,
- 1:51Speaker 1: give it a whirl, let me know what you think. Anyway,
- 1:54Speaker 1: For five Minute Friday this week, I want to tell
- 1:56Speaker 1: you about something that really excites me, and that is
- 1:59Speaker 1: the certified Professional coaching cert that I just signed up for.
- 2:04Speaker 1: So a lot of journalists, especially within the health and
- 2:08Speaker 1: wellness industry, will get a lot of certification.
- 2:12Speaker 2: So I am a certified.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Personal trainer through the American Council of Exercise. I'm also
- 2:18Speaker 1: a certified run coach through UESCA, and lastly, I have
- 2:22Speaker 1: a Precision Nutrition Level one certification. It is very important
- 2:27Speaker 1: to me, as someone who has a foundation as a
- 2:30Speaker 1: journalist to make sure that I have the necessary information
- 2:34Speaker 1: and education to conduct responsible, smart conversations with individuals that
- 2:39Speaker 1: I have on the show, and also so that I
- 2:41Speaker 1: can make sure that the information that I am giving
- 2:43Speaker 1: to you the Hurdlers is accurate, correct, et cetera. Over
- 2:48Speaker 1: the last few years, as I have definitely dabbled in
- 2:52Speaker 1: this self help space and have been putting together the
- 2:56Speaker 1: hurdler huddles and more hurdler events and the hurdle sessions as.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Though it would make sense for me to.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Get a relevant certification, so that in doing so, with
- 3:07Speaker 1: this choice that I've made to step into this space,
- 3:09Speaker 1: that I was doing so in a way that was
- 3:12Speaker 1: again that word responsible.
- 3:14Speaker 2: So I did some research.
- 3:16Speaker 1: At first I wondered if I wanted to go back
- 3:18Speaker 1: for my master's in psychology. I decided that that wasn't
- 3:23Speaker 1: exactly the right move for me. But what is the
- 3:25Speaker 1: right move for me is IPECK. Now IPEC stands for
- 3:30Speaker 1: the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching, and I am
- 3:34Speaker 1: going to become a certified professional coach. So what that
- 3:38Speaker 1: means is, basically, through ipec's core energy coching methodology say
- 3:43Speaker 1: that five times fast, I'll be able to do a
- 3:45Speaker 1: lot more than just talk about how to help hurdlers
- 3:50Speaker 1: and just in life people solve surface level problems. What
- 3:54Speaker 1: my goal is through this coaching is to be able
- 3:57Speaker 1: to address the root source of what somelos may be
- 4:00Speaker 1: and then help others unleash their potential and create real
- 4:04Speaker 1: sustainable change so that not only can individuals go out
- 4:10Speaker 1: and achieve their goals, but they can really do so
- 4:12Speaker 1: in a way that they feel super confident, they feel
- 4:16Speaker 1: self reliant, and they feel really fulfilled. Now I know
- 4:19Speaker 1: you may be wondering, why did you choose this specific program. Well,
- 4:23Speaker 1: to be completely honest with you, the life coach that
- 4:25Speaker 1: I work with went through this program.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I looked at one other program.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Called Coactive, often referred to as CTI, the Coactive Training Institute,
- 4:37Speaker 1: and just for me and my schedule and what I
- 4:39Speaker 1: have going on, I came to the conclusion that IPECK
- 4:42Speaker 1: was the right fit for me. There are a ton
- 4:45Speaker 1: of unnecessarily expensive, quick fixed programs out there where they
- 4:51Speaker 1: certify people to be coaches with Instagram and social media,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and going to that idea of the difference between being
- 4:58Speaker 1: just someone of influence on on social versus someone with
- 5:01Speaker 1: adequate certifications. People are going through these two to three
- 5:05Speaker 1: day programs and calling themselves a life coach, and so
- 5:08Speaker 1: I wanted to make sure that I really gave this
- 5:11Speaker 1: some time because I care passionately about what I'm putting
- 5:14Speaker 1: into the world, and I want to do it responsibly. Again,
- 5:17Speaker 1: I can't say that word enough. Anyway, this was an
- 5:20Speaker 1: investment decision. This is not an inexpensive program, and it
- 5:25Speaker 1: has been in the past very easy for me to
- 5:28Speaker 1: write off something like this because I, quote unquote don't
- 5:32Speaker 1: need it, right, I don't need to invest as much
- 5:36Speaker 1: of myself. It's so much easier for me to spend
- 5:38Speaker 1: money and give energy to others. But when I took
- 5:41Speaker 1: a step back and I thought about the best way
- 5:44Speaker 1: that I could continue to do that, I answered my
- 5:48Speaker 1: own question. I said to myself. By doing this, not
- 5:52Speaker 1: only are you giving this gift to yourself, this gift
- 5:56Speaker 1: of better communication and excitement and education, but also you
- 6:01Speaker 1: then in turn are able to better serve your community
- 6:05Speaker 1: and arguably have deeper and better conversations, connections, and intimate
- 6:09Speaker 1: relationships with those that are actually closest to me. It
- 6:13Speaker 1: isn't easy. I'll say that again. It's never easy. It's
- 6:16Speaker 1: not like one day you learn about the importance of
- 6:18Speaker 1: self care and then for the rest of your life
- 6:20Speaker 1: you're good at giving yourself everything you need every single day.
- 6:23Speaker 1: It doesn't work like that. There are so many other
- 6:25Speaker 1: factors that play into the equation of how we take
- 6:28Speaker 1: care of ourselves on the regular. But if you can
- 6:30Speaker 1: come back to this simple notion that you are worthy
- 6:33Speaker 1: of your own energy, that you are worthy of your
- 6:35Speaker 1: own investment, that you deserve good things. Well, then trust me,
- 6:40Speaker 1: good things are going to come your way. But you
- 6:44Speaker 1: have to approach life with that lens and remember to
- 6:48Speaker 1: have some grace with yourself when maybe you aren't the
- 6:50Speaker 1: best at keeping that perspective. Anyway, I'm excited for this
- 6:55Speaker 1: training to kick off. My first module is a weekend
- 6:59Speaker 1: in late July. Then I have another one in October
- 7:01Speaker 1: and one last one in January. The other work it's
- 7:04Speaker 1: like one workshop or lesson every week. I say the
- 7:07Speaker 1: work weekly is about five hours.
- 7:10Speaker 2: So within eight or.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Nine months, I think if my counting and my timeline
- 7:16Speaker 1: starts me right, then I'll be a certified professional coach.
- 7:20Speaker 2: I digress. My prompt.
- 7:21Speaker 1: My prompt for you this week is what is something
- 7:26Speaker 1: that you've been wanting to do for yourself that you've
- 7:28Speaker 1: been holding off on. Why do you think you're holding
- 7:31Speaker 1: off on it? And is now the right time for
- 7:34Speaker 1: you to get after it? What is one thing that
- 7:37Speaker 1: you've been thinking about doing for yourself that you have
- 7:41Speaker 1: yet to pull the trigger on. And now a listener
- 7:45Speaker 1: question before I get into the listener question.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I need more of them.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So if you're listening to this and you love five
- 7:50Speaker 1: Minute Friday and I get your DMS and I know
- 7:52Speaker 1: that you do, I need you to do me this
- 7:54Speaker 1: solid right now and click the link in the show
- 7:57Speaker 1: notes that says leave me a voice message and go
- 7:59Speaker 1: ahead and ask me one.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Okay, now that we have that covered, let's get to it. Hi, Emily,
- 8:06Speaker 2: this is Juliana calling from Virginia. I'm just curious what
- 8:10Speaker 2: would constitute a best day ever for you? Thanks Juliana
- 8:15Speaker 2: from Virginia.
- 8:16Speaker 1: You are the question that I'm going to answer this
- 8:18Speaker 1: week because I actually was just in Virginia yesterday visiting
- 8:23Speaker 1: my as I refer to her, my final roommate.
- 8:25Speaker 2: She just had a little baby girl, not all that.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Long ago, and it was long overdue for me to
- 8:32Speaker 1: get down and meet Cecilia. So Hi, shout out to Cecilia,
- 8:38Speaker 1: You're the real MVP.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Anyway, I digressed, best day ever? What a question?
- 8:44Speaker 1: This weekend in the DC area, I'm going to be
- 8:47Speaker 1: hanging out with some of my people I have, as
- 8:50Speaker 1: I refer to them, in my life, a few different
- 8:52Speaker 1: anchors and anchors being people that really keep me grounded
- 8:56Speaker 1: some of my most deep, special intimate friendships, and so
- 9:00Speaker 1: for me, I think that my best day ever would
- 9:04Speaker 1: be spending time with those people that really make me
- 9:09Speaker 1: feel like me and make me feel safe and supported
- 9:12Speaker 1: and allow me the opportunity to do the same for them.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I would be remiss if family wasn't a part of
- 9:19Speaker 1: this equation. And although yes, my best day ever may
- 9:24Speaker 1: actually take place like on the Amalfi Coast or something,
- 9:28Speaker 1: really location isn't as important as who is involved. I
- 9:32Speaker 1: would love for there to be a way for me
- 9:36Speaker 1: to sip on all my favorite beverages without getting anebriated
- 9:40Speaker 1: to the point where I feel out of control. I
- 9:43Speaker 1: would also love to be perfectly hydrated and somehow be
- 9:46Speaker 1: able to wake up the next day in the green
- 9:48Speaker 1: on my whoop score. I would love for the day
- 9:52Speaker 1: to involve not just like emotional intimacy with people that
- 9:56Speaker 1: I care about, but also on my perfect day, I'm
- 9:59Speaker 1: hopefully in a loving relationship with someone who wants to
- 10:03Speaker 1: give me love and affection. And also, without a doubt,
- 10:07Speaker 1: my perfect day definitely involves a massage me also running
- 10:15Speaker 1: and running in a way that feels effortless and I
- 10:18Speaker 1: feel very powerful.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I also want to look really great on.
- 10:21Speaker 1: My perfect day and just feel content and happy, not
- 10:25Speaker 1: just in me and who I am, but by the
- 10:27Speaker 1: people that I surround myself, what I'm eating and drinking,
- 10:31Speaker 1: And I mean, if Muzzarella's involved, pizza, ice cream cake?
- 10:36Speaker 1: Can I tell you two of my favorite foods are
- 10:38Speaker 1: ice cream cake and sushi? And I once told this
- 10:40Speaker 1: is maybe like six seven years ago. I was on
- 10:43Speaker 1: a date with someone and he asked me what my
- 10:45Speaker 1: favorite foods were and I told him that, and then
- 10:49Speaker 1: we were dating around the.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Time of year that it was my birthday.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And probably one of the best dates that I have
- 10:55Speaker 1: been on in my life was the man met me
- 10:58Speaker 1: at Columbus Circle with the pick basket and we went
- 11:01Speaker 1: and we had sushi and ice cream cake and it
- 11:04Speaker 1: was great. He is a great human, but he wasn't
- 11:07Speaker 1: the right human for me. But I always, uh, what
- 11:10Speaker 1: a New York minute. Anyway, I am letting this get
- 11:13Speaker 1: all over the place, and I'm rambling now. So I
- 11:16Speaker 1: think the moral of the story here is my best
- 11:18Speaker 1: day is all about who I'm with, not necessarily where
- 11:21Speaker 1: I am, although Italy would work for me. That's it
- 11:25Speaker 1: for this week. Thanks for showing up big time for
- 11:29Speaker 1: season one. All of your feedback, all of your support.
- 11:32Speaker 1: It does not go unnoticed and it makes me feel
- 11:35Speaker 1: super excited for what's to come. Make sure you're following
- 11:39Speaker 1: along over at Hurdle Podcast, I am over at Emily
