- 0:11Speaker 1: Now we turn to the Breathitt Advocate to read news
- 0:14Speaker 1: from Jackson and Breathitt County. Your reader today is Beth McLean.
- 0:20Speaker 1: We will begin with the edition dated September 16th, 2026,
- 0:25Speaker 1: which is donated by the publisher. As a reminder, Radio
- 0:29Speaker 1: Eye is a reading service intended for people who are
- 0:31Speaker 1: blind or have other disabilities that make it difficult to
- 0:34Speaker 1: read printed material. In today's headline article, Drug dealer sentenced
- 0:42Speaker 1: to 11 years in federal prison. A Hazel Green man
- 0:47Speaker 1: has been arrested after being accused of running a meth
- 0:49Speaker 1: distribution operation across three eastern Kentucky counties. Clyde Rudolph Endicott, 54,
- 0:58Speaker 1: of Hazel Green, was arrested Wednesday by the Morgan and
- 1:01Speaker 1: Wolfe County Sheriff's Offices and Kentucky State Police. Officers went
- 1:07Speaker 1: to his home following his indictment in July of 2025
- 1:11Speaker 1: on charges of conspiracy to distribute meth, two counts of
- 1:15Speaker 1: distributing meth, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
- 1:20Speaker 1: When officers went to arrest him, they found more than
- 1:23Speaker 1: eight pounds of meth worth more than $ 50, 000 in his home,
- 1:27Speaker 1: along with $ 25, 000 in cash. Endicott pled not guilty during
- 1:33Speaker 1: his arraignment in Lexington Federal Courthouse, after he was arrested.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Endicott entered a guilty plea recently in federal court and
- 1:41Speaker 1: was sentenced to 11 years in federal prison. As a
- 1:45Speaker 1: part of his plea deal, six additional drug and firearm
- 1:48Speaker 1: charges were dismissed. Those charges included several alleged methamphetamine distributions
- 1:54Speaker 1: in Wolf County, possession with intent to distribute 500 grams
- 1:58Speaker 1: or more of methamphetamine, and possession of a firearm by
- 2:02Speaker 1: a convicted felon. Federal court records also says $ 25, 000 in
- 2:08Speaker 1: cash was seized from Endicott on July 30, 2025, with
- 2:13Speaker 1: another $ 2, 537 seized after several days later. For the quantity
- 2:20Speaker 1: involved in the conspiracy charge, Endicott faced a statutory sentencing
- 2:24Speaker 1: range of 10 years to life in prison. U.S. District
- 2:28Speaker 1: Judge Karen Caldwell sentenced Endicott Thursday to 132 months or
- 2:34Speaker 1: 11 years in federal prison, followed by five years of
- 2:38Speaker 1: supervised release. He's currently being held in the Grayson Detention Center,
- 2:42Speaker 1: awaiting transfer to federal prison. Next from the front page,
- 2:48Speaker 1: Breathitt County veteran being remembered. A Breathitt County native is
- 2:53Speaker 1: being remembered after his recent passing. Carlos Pugue, age 90,

- 3:47Speaker 1: Planning Commission. In 2015, he was inducted into the Kentucky

- 7:55Speaker 1: We would be very happy to help. We next move
- 8:00Speaker 1: on to the Advocate Columnist, and first up, Life on
- 8:04Speaker 1: the Old Dirt Road by Bobby Thorpe. Growing up in
- 8:08Speaker 1: my teen years. Growing up through my teen years in
- 8:12Speaker 1: the 80s, I enjoyed music, riding around, and playing video games.
- 8:18Speaker 1: I also enjoyed working my first paying jobs. During the 80s,
- 8:22Speaker 1: we enjoyed listening to some good music by Prince, Michael Jackson, Steppenwolf,
- 8:28Speaker 1: Rolling Stones, Meatloaf, and many other artists. Several friends, family members,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and I loved cruising around town and stopping at Druthers
- 8:37Speaker 1: or Hardee's to order a burger. Occasionally, we would get
- 8:40Speaker 1: pulled over by George Lee, who was always stern but
- 8:44Speaker 1: very professional about teenage boys being out in town after
- 8:47Speaker 1: 10 p.m. George was a great contributor to our community.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I can remember playing card games such as Rummy, Solitaire, Rook,
- 8:56Speaker 1: and Uno. Atari 2600 came out during the time frame,
- 9:02Speaker 1: and I was introduced to Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, and Pitfall.
- 9:07Speaker 1: I also enjoyed playing the space games. During my junior
- 9:11Speaker 1: year of high school, I worked my first paying job
- 9:14Speaker 1: at Hardee's, followed by Little Caesar's Pizza. It was great
- 9:18Speaker 1: earning a paycheck as a teenager. During the winter months,
- 9:22Speaker 1: my friends and I would get out in the snow
- 9:23Speaker 1: at night and find an old cold truck tire or
- 9:27Speaker 1: car tire and build us a bonfire. These are great
- 9:31Speaker 1: memories from life on the old dirt road. Next, So
- 9:36Speaker 1: Be It by Pastor Naomi, titled Keep Trusting. Keep trusting
- 9:42Speaker 1: even when you don't understand. Keep trusting even when things
- 9:45Speaker 1: don't make sense. Keep trusting even when the answer is delayed.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Keep trusting even when the road feels uncertain. Keep trusting
- 9:54Speaker 1: because God knows what He's doing. Sometimes God closes doors
- 9:59Speaker 1: to protect you. Sometimes He redirects you to something better.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Sometimes He makes you wait to prepare you. Sometimes what
- 10:06Speaker 1: you think is a setback is actually a setup for
- 10:08Speaker 1: a greater blessing. Keep trusting because His plan is always good.
- 10:14Speaker 1: You may not see the full picture now, but God
- 10:16Speaker 1: sees the bigger picture. You may not know how it
- 10:18Speaker 1: will happen, but God knows the right time. You may
- 10:22Speaker 1: feel tired, but God gives you strength. You may feel alone,
- 10:26Speaker 1: but God is always with you. Keep trusting because you
- 10:30Speaker 1: are never alone. So keep praying, keep believing, keep going,
- 10:35Speaker 1: keep doing what is right, keep holding on to hope
- 10:38Speaker 1: because the best is yet to come and God is
- 10:40Speaker 1: still working behind the scenes. Keep trusting. It will all
- 10:44Speaker 1: be worth it. Some things to say each morning to
- 10:47Speaker 1: God to start your day. 1. Thank you for this day. 2.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Guide my thoughts and my words. 3. Teach me to
- 10:56Speaker 1: love others. 4. Protect my family and my home. 5.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Give me peace today. 6. Remind me that you are
- 11:06Speaker 1: in control. 7. I surrender this day to you. Some
- 11:11Speaker 1: affirmations to declare. I have peace for today and hope
- 11:14Speaker 1: for tomorrow. Today, I choose to rest in God's peace
- 11:18Speaker 1: and leave tomorrow in His hands. I may not know
- 11:22Speaker 1: what tomorrow will bring, but I know God is already there.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Pray this simple prayer. Dear God, today I choose to
- 11:30Speaker 1: trust you. Guide my steps. Fill me with your peace
- 11:34Speaker 1: and help me walk in obedience to your word. I
- 11:36Speaker 1: surrender my worries to you, knowing that you are my
- 11:39Speaker 1: refuge and my strength. Calm every worry, strengthen my tired heart,
- 11:44Speaker 1: and fill each day with hope. Amen. Life should be
- 11:48Speaker 1: simple and not complicated at every moment of the day.
- 11:51Speaker 1: If it is, make the choice to truly surrender it
- 11:54Speaker 1: all to God. Fear for today, no worry for tomorrow,
- 11:58Speaker 1: just faith for the journey. God's peace for today, God's
- 12:02Speaker 1: hope for tomorrow, God's grace for every day. Enjoy the journey.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Amen and so be it. Next, let's check in with
- 12:11Speaker 1: Kathleen Abner, Helping Hands Christian Resources. Hello, friends and neighbors.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Another week has passed again, and we here at Helping
- 12:21Speaker 1: Hands Christian Resources, O & M, hope that you had
- 12:24Speaker 1: a good week. Prayers are going up for everyone who
- 12:27Speaker 1: has suffered loss. It is hard to lose a loved
- 12:30Speaker 1: one or suffer hardship, but if we think about it
- 12:32Speaker 1: and realize that God is there for us. Sometimes we
- 12:35Speaker 1: go through things that are just so hard for the
- 12:37Speaker 1: average person, but we need someone to walk by our side.
- 12:41Speaker 1: It is good to have someone there with us that
- 12:42Speaker 1: we can count on, but in all honesty, common humans
- 12:46Speaker 1: can only go so far because our abilities are limited.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Think about God, please, how He wants to be there
- 12:53Speaker 1: for us. And there is no one that loves us
- 12:55Speaker 1: greater than He does. He doesn't condone all that we do,
- 12:59Speaker 1: but He does love us in spite of it. He
- 13:01Speaker 1: would love it if we would turn our life over
- 13:03Speaker 1: to Him and allow Him to be there for us.
- 13:06Speaker 1: God is all-powerful and no one loves us greater than
- 13:09Speaker 1: He does. So what greater person is there that can
- 13:11Speaker 1: walk by our side and give us that true victory
- 13:14Speaker 1: and success? The heavens and the earth and mankind were
- 13:18Speaker 1: not created by God just because He needed something to do.
- 13:21Speaker 1: There is a purpose for everything that He does, and
- 13:24Speaker 1: the main purpose is for us. He wants to be
- 13:27Speaker 1: in fellowship with us. He wants to be in our life.
- 13:30Speaker 1: He wants to have us turn our life over to Him,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and He wants us to welcome Him into our heart.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I have never heard anyone say they regret giving their
- 13:39Speaker 1: heart to the Lord. Most all that I do hear
- 13:42Speaker 1: is people saying that they regret not coming to the
- 13:45Speaker 1: Lord sooner in their life, and that includes me also.
- 13:49Speaker 1: There is nothing that we have ever done in our
- 13:51Speaker 1: lifetime that is beyond His forgiveness. Once we come to
- 13:54Speaker 1: Him and ask forgiveness and for Him to come into
- 13:56Speaker 1: our life, that's exactly what He does. But He does
- 14:00Speaker 1: more than that. He throws our sins into the sea
- 14:02Speaker 1: of forgetfulness, and they are thrown as far as the
- 14:05Speaker 1: easiest to the west. If you know your directions, the
- 14:10Speaker 1: east and west never do meet. They don't circle back around,
- 14:14Speaker 1: so that's how He forgives us. He never remembers them
- 14:17Speaker 1: more because they are already under the blood of Jesus.
- 14:20Speaker 1: On the other hand, Satan, that old devil, will remind
- 14:23Speaker 1: us continually of our past to keep us beaten down
- 14:26Speaker 1: and feeling ashamed, but we don't have to let him
- 14:29Speaker 1: get away with it. We need to put him in
- 14:31Speaker 1: his place and remind him that we have given our
- 14:33Speaker 1: heart to the Lord, that our sins are forgiven. John 3.16
- 14:39Speaker 1: and 17 says, For God so loved the world that
- 14:42Speaker 1: he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in
- 14:46Speaker 1: him should not perish but have everlasting life. For he
- 14:50Speaker 1: came not into the world to condemn the world, but
- 14:53Speaker 1: that the world through him might be saved. Next, From
- 14:57Speaker 1: the Counselor's Desk by Randy Cloth, L.P.C.C., N.C.C. Never Give Up,
- 15:05Speaker 1: The Strength of Hope, Prayer, and Faith Let us continue
- 15:09Speaker 1: to explore the model of making small, specific changes to
- 15:12Speaker 1: improve our overall health. We need to strive to take
- 15:16Speaker 1: steps each day to improve ourselves mentally, spiritually, physically, and relationally.
- 15:22Speaker 1: What would happen if we took a step each day
- 15:25Speaker 1: to improve in each of these vital areas? Today, we
- 15:28Speaker 1: look at an especially important area of our lives, the spiritual.
- 15:33Speaker 1: There is so much to say about improving our lives spiritually.
- 15:36Speaker 1: but I will talk about a few important concepts that
- 15:38Speaker 1: will be helpful. The book of Acts in the Bible
- 15:42Speaker 1: records the founding of the church. So if you want
- 15:45Speaker 1: to explore some basic important principles concerning one's spiritual life,
- 15:49Speaker 1: that is a good place to start. Acts 2.42 says,
- 15:54Speaker 1: And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship,
- 15:58Speaker 1: in the breaking of bread and in prayers. New King
- 16:01Speaker 1: James Version. The early Christians learned directly from the apostles,
- 16:06Speaker 1: We can do that today by reading the New Testament.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Christian fellowship was also important then and still is now.
- 16:14Speaker 1: They were united, cared deeply for each other, and helped
- 16:17Speaker 1: one another. Apparently, they often shared meals and participated in communion,
- 16:22Speaker 1: the Lord's Supper. Of course, prayer was an important part
- 16:26Speaker 1: of the early believers' lives. The Bible is clear that
- 16:29Speaker 1: God hears and answers our prayers. I have learned over
- 16:33Speaker 1: the years that God always answers our prayers, but in
- 16:36Speaker 1: His ways and timing. Not always easy to understand. May
- 16:40Speaker 1: the Lord help all of us carefully study God's word,
- 16:43Speaker 1: spend time with other believers, and worship and pray in
- 16:46Speaker 1: ways that please God and help our walk with Him. Next,
- 16:51Speaker 1: JCS Celebrates Grandparents Day by Sydney Hayes and Iris Terry.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Jackson City School welcomed grandparents to campus on Thursday, September
- 17:02Speaker 1: 10th for a special Grandparents' Day luncheon, celebrating the important
- 17:07Speaker 1: role grandparents play in the lives of students. Grandparents were
- 17:11Speaker 1: invited to join their grandchildren at school for a delicious
- 17:14Speaker 1: meal and an opportunity to experience a part of their
- 17:17Speaker 1: grandchildren's school day. The event gave students a chance to
- 17:22Speaker 1: show their appreciation for their grandparents while allowing grandparents to
- 17:26Speaker 1: spend meaningful time with their grandchildren in their school environment.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Guests were treated to an impressive buffet prepared by the
- 17:34Speaker 1: Jackson City School food service team. The meal included fried
- 17:38Speaker 1: and grilled chicken, soup beans and cornbread, mashed potatoes and gravy,
- 17:44Speaker 1: mustard greens, coleslaw, and green onions. A drink and dessert
- 17:48Speaker 1: bar was also available for guests to enjoy. With such
- 17:52Speaker 1: a large crowd attending, the food service team worked extremely
- 17:55Speaker 1: hard to prepare and serve enough food for everyone. Their
- 17:59Speaker 1: tremendous effort helped make sure that students, grandparents, and guests
- 18:03Speaker 1: were able to enjoy a delicious meal and a memorable experience.
- 18:08Speaker 1: JCS is incredibly grateful to the food service team for
- 18:11Speaker 1: all of their hard work. The agriculture classes at Jackson
- 18:15Speaker 1: City School also played a major role in making the
- 18:18Speaker 1: event a success. Led by Mrs. Brittany Back, the agriculture
- 18:23Speaker 1: students helped prepare for the luncheon, set up the area,
- 18:27Speaker 1: assist with the event, and make sure everything ran smoothly
- 18:30Speaker 1: throughout the day. Mrs. Back worked tirelessly alongside her students
- 18:35Speaker 1: to organize and coordinate the event. Her leadership, dedication, and
- 18:40Speaker 1: hard work were instrumental in bringing Grandparents Day together. Jackson
- 18:45Speaker 1: City School would like to extend a special thank you
- 18:47Speaker 1: to Mrs. Back for everything she did to make the
- 18:50Speaker 1: event such a success. Working the event gave the agricultural
- 18:55Speaker 1: students the an opportunity to practice teamwork, responsibility, and leadership
- 19:00Speaker 1: while helping create a special experience for their fellow students
- 19:03Speaker 1: and their families. Grandparents Day was more than just a luncheon.
- 19:08Speaker 1: It gave grandparents an opportunity to visit Jackson City School,
- 19:12Speaker 1: see where their grandchildren spend their days, and become a
- 19:15Speaker 1: part of their school experience. Students and grandparents enjoyed visiting
- 19:20Speaker 1: with one another, sharing a meal, and making memories together.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Jackson City School is grateful to everyone who helped make
- 19:27Speaker 1: the celebration possible, from the food service team who prepared
- 19:31Speaker 1: an incredible buffet to Mrs. Back and the agricultural students
- 19:35Speaker 1: who worked so hard behind the scenes. Their combined efforts
- 19:39Speaker 1: helped create a wonderful day filled with good food, family,
- 19:42Speaker 1: and lasting memories. Next, let's check in with Rich Bunton
- 19:47Speaker 1: for Senior Citizens News. It was a bit gloomy as
- 19:52Speaker 1: we gathered at the center to prepare for our famous
- 19:54Speaker 1: trip to Robinson Forest. Many thought we probably wouldn't be
- 19:58Speaker 1: able to make this trip, but others just put their
- 20:01Speaker 1: faith in their Lord and lo and behold, the day
- 20:03Speaker 1: turned out perfect. 31 of our members loaded up on
- 20:07Speaker 1: three vans and off we went. It takes about an
- 20:11Speaker 1: hour to get there, but the trip is worth it.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Traveling up 476 is a nice drive. When we turned
- 20:18Speaker 1: off 476 to head into the forest, it was even nicer.
- 20:23Speaker 1: It's just a beautiful country to look at as we
- 20:25Speaker 1: behold the wonders of nature. Part of the road is paved,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but most of the time dirt and gravel. We went
- 20:32Speaker 1: over about two bridges with shallow creeks below, a child
- 20:35Speaker 1: dream to wade in. You can just think back in
- 20:38Speaker 1: time and see a bunch of boys and girls splashing
- 20:40Speaker 1: and sitting around in the water, having the time of
- 20:43Speaker 1: their life. We finally arrived at our destination. One van
- 20:47Speaker 1: load was already there as we found a parking place
- 20:50Speaker 1: for ours. As we were unloading, the other van showed up.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Ted Edmonds was driving that one. Lowell Hamilton, drive on,
- 20:59Speaker 1: but least and also last director Rich Bunton drove the
- 21:03Speaker 1: third van. It was a pleasure to take the lead
- 21:06Speaker 1: and drive our new van to Robinson Forest. We were
- 21:10Speaker 1: met with a warm and inviting staff. Our members split
- 21:13Speaker 1: up into small groups, some playing cornhole, some went inside
- 21:17Speaker 1: to play rook, and others just wanted to sit in
- 21:19Speaker 1: the shade provided by cabins and enjoy the company of
- 21:22Speaker 1: their friends. Overall, everyone was having a good time. You
- 21:27Speaker 1: should have heard some of the stories different ones had
- 21:29Speaker 1: to tell. I don't know if it if I would
- 21:33Speaker 1: believe them or not, but considering the individual who shared
- 21:36Speaker 1: the info with us, I have to lean towards that
- 21:38Speaker 1: it was the truth, whole truth and nothing but the truth.
- 21:42Speaker 1: The staff loaded up many of our members in the
- 21:44Speaker 1: new side-by-sides and took them on a scenic route up
- 21:48Speaker 1: to the fire station. Everyone said it was really rough
- 21:51Speaker 1: in a lot of places. Each one excited to be
- 21:54Speaker 1: back and ready to eat. We lined up outside the
- 21:57Speaker 1: dining hall, had prayer for the food, and everyone gathered
- 22:00Speaker 1: inside before we lined up to receive our food. The
- 22:03Speaker 1: serving was as follows. Roast beef with gravy, mashed potatoes,
- 22:07Speaker 1: sweet potatoes, hot roll, green beans, corn, and for dessert,
- 22:12Speaker 1: fruit salad and peach cobbler. I believe we all ate
