- 0:00What's up y'all? You're listening to the Extra
- 0:02point college football podcast. I'm your host Jacob Carne joined
- 0:05us always by my Co host Daniel Hammock.
- 0:07Daniel, we've got week 6. This always happened in college
- 0:10football week six with a little bit of like a, you know, kind of
- 0:12a gap week before week 7, some huge results, but week 7 huge
- 0:16week. This week we've got huge rivalry
- 0:18games with stakes as well as some other big matchups.
- 0:22On this episode we're going to go through one thing we learned
- 0:24this past weekend. We'll talk about Penn State and
- 0:27Miami. Two questions we have moving
- 0:29forward. Got a lot of Texas school talk,
- 0:32not just the University of, but some Texas schools as well as
- 0:36some Florida, Clemson and Miami. And that one, we'll have our XPR
- 0:40update as well as Daniel. We're in Week 7.
- 0:42We're going to do some playoffs, some some updated playoff picks.
- 0:45Now that we've seen some games, we've got some data.
- 0:48We'll go into three games. We're watching that.
- 0:50We're not picking 3U matchups to keep your eye on this weekend
- 0:53and then the four best games of the weekend, which was hard to
- 0:56choose this week, but for the four best games of the weekend
- 0:58picks against the spread. Daniel, how you doing?
- 1:01This is a big week. Are you ready to talk about it?
- 1:04Yeah, man, this is great. We get to just like, maybe reset
- 1:07our playoff predictions, maybe get rid of our Penn State Texas
- 1:11takes from the beginning of the year and just kind of, you know,
- 1:15start anew, you know, and just kind of bring our hands of it.
- 1:19How about that? You know, it's it's always great
- 1:22to like bring up the stuff you were right about and then kind
- 1:25of ignore the stuff you're wrong about.
- 1:27Like absolutely. Here's the thing.
- 1:28Penn State I'll say I was very right about, but I was like, but
- 1:31I also had them in my playoff at like 10 and two and we'll get to
- 1:34Penn State. We're going to talk about the,
- 1:36you know what? Let's just dive in, Daniel.
- 1:38Let's do it. This is a big week.
- 1:40First quarter of our show is one thing we learned.
- 1:43Daniel, what's one thing you learned after watching games
- 1:44this weekend? Jacob, one thing I learned,
- 1:47Miami is different, at least so far.
- 1:53Yeah, they, you know, Jacob, they're on our, you know, maybe
- 1:58our best segment that we do yearly is the who's back
- 2:01segment. We do that every offseason and
- 2:04they're shooting up Miami on on trajectory.
- 2:08And you know, people always talk about is the you back, is Miami
- 2:12back. And it's like, well, dude, they
- 2:13have the furthest way to go to be back because they're they've
- 2:17won five national championships with five different head
- 2:20coaches. And they're just like, they're
- 2:21so good and they always have NFL talent.
- 2:24And for so long now it has not looked like that.
- 2:27And this year, I think a lot of people were expecting it to be
- 2:31similar to, you know, last year where Kim Ward really kind of
- 2:34was a one man show for Miami and willed them to those ten wins or
- 2:39nine wins, whatever it was. I think they ended up kind of
- 2:41folding late, but yeah, because they were like all the talk last
- 2:45year and then it just kind of fell apart this year.
- 2:47I think that that's what we thought Carson Beck may have
- 2:49been coming in to do. And I think several people, you
- 2:52and myself may be included, were like, you know, maybe maybe
- 2:55Carson's not up to being a one man show.
- 2:57He's a very good quarterback. Can, you know, great elite
- 3:00processor. How's his arm doing?
- 3:02Because he was obviously she was coming off the injury.
- 3:04Now he looks good, but there's a lot of questions coming in the
- 3:07season. Yeah, none of us had that.
- 3:10Like they were going to be strong on the offensive and
- 3:13defensive line. They weren't going to be
- 3:16necessarily out coached in any game so far, you know, I say so
- 3:19far, we'll see. You know, Crystal Ball has that
- 3:21kind of in his back pocket. We don't know.
- 3:23But I mean, just watching the game Saturday night, you know,
- 3:28Miami completely dominated that game.
- 3:30Florida State, you know, did all they could to just kind of
- 3:33squeak back into it at the end to make it look somewhat
- 3:36respectable. But Miami dominated that
- 3:38offensively and defensively. And it will.
- 3:40You know, Carson Beck played well.
- 3:42He played, you know, he's a good game.
- 3:43But they don't need Carson to be Superman for them to be a elite
- 3:49team this year. And they look pretty complete as
- 3:53a team. And you look at their schedule
- 3:55and you look at, you know, this conference they're in, they
- 3:59don't have to play, you know, the Alabama's of the world.
- 4:03They don't have to play Ohio State's of the world.
- 4:05They're going to be able to dominate their opponents week
- 4:07in, week out. Yeah, their schedule, I mean,
- 4:10take a look at it because we're sitting here in our group chat
- 4:13saying are they going to lose into the game?
- 4:14Not percentage wise. It's hard to project undefeated
- 4:18and College Oil has been crazy this year.
- 4:19But I mean, statistically speaking, they've played the
- 4:22hardest part of their schedule and they're undefeated.
- 4:24So to that end, does Cristobal pull the Cristobal this year?
- 4:28Is he over that? But yeah, to your point, I mean,
- 4:30Carson Beck doesn't have to be Superman, although he's shown he
- 4:33can be, which I think is what makes him scary.
- 4:35And the defensive line, they must have.
- 4:36They might have the best defensive player in the country.
- 4:38And Ruben Bayne, the secondary I talked about last week being one
- 4:42of the wins of the transfer portal this year being the Miami
- 4:45back seven and and their secondary.
- 4:47So, yeah, Miami more to come, XPR on Miami, Daniel.
- 4:52But my one thing I learned is changes will be made at Penn
- 4:57State. Not sure when, not sure what the
- 5:01changes will be made. I'm not saying James Franklin's
- 5:04going to be fired. I'm not saying, you know, end of
- 5:07the year he's going to leave or retire.
- 5:09I I don't know. I'm not saying that will happen.
- 5:11I do think firing is out of the question because it's buy out so
- 5:13much. And I do think what we'll see, I
- 5:16think you're going to see less firings or less lucrative
- 5:19coaching contracts moving forward with players getting
- 5:22paid because it's not just buyout money and new coach money
- 5:25you're having to pay that is now taking away from NIL and Rev
- 5:29share and like paying your players.
- 5:30So rebuilds will take a lot longer if you play if you pay a
- 5:34massive buyout. So what does James Franklin make
- 5:37changes in season this year and turn the season around the go
- 5:40tended to? I highly doubt they went to Ohio
- 5:43State and at this point I think 9 and 3 does not get them in the
- 5:45playoff with that schedule. But chained is what we made.
- 5:49And here's the here's the tough part.
- 5:50If you're a Penn State fan, this is not rock bottom.
- 5:53I know that you losing to a winless UCLA seems like rock
- 5:56bottom. It absolutely can get worse.
- 5:59Look at Florida State last year. We kept thinking it can't get
- 6:03any worse than this and they go from 13 and one ACC champs to 2
- 6:09and 10. So if they don't be careful,
- 6:12like it can get worse this year, in which case then serious
- 6:16conversation started to be had about James Franklin.
- 6:18But regardless, my one thing I learned is change is what we
- 6:21made at Penn State. Because the way you've done
- 6:23things again, this was the year. You know, something I I tweeted
- 6:27on Saturday was when whenever you get the chance to win a
- 6:30championship, you have to do it because you're never guaranteed
- 6:34to be back. We saw this with like Georgia in
- 6:362017. It was like, you know what, They
- 6:38lost in overtime. They're going to be right back
- 6:40in this thing. And anyway, it took five more
- 6:42seasons to get back to get back in that position to win it.
- 6:45They were in a position last year to win it and everyone's
- 6:48like no big deal. Everybody's coming back.
- 6:50They'll be right back in it next year.
- 6:52And now they're not like I can confidently say they're not
- 6:54winning a championship this year.
- 6:57You got to do it when you have the chance because nothing's
- 6:59ever guaranteed in the sport. So change is all we made and I
- 7:01know that for sure at Penn State, our second quarter,
- 7:05Daniel, 2 questions we have moving forward.
- 7:08What you got? What's your first question?
- 7:10Yeah. I looking at our looking at our
- 7:13Ledger here, I think that we might have some similar
- 7:16questions a little bit, but mine's more.
- 7:19Would you rather? OK, you know an answer to this.
- 7:25I'm happy. I'd like to hear just kind of a
- 7:28thought. Yeah, Of course.
- 7:29Yeah, answer it. But would you rather take the
- 7:32state of Texas or the state of Florida, the schools, because
- 7:37this comes up a lot in high school recruiting.
- 7:39Texas and Florida are the two biggest hotbeds.
- 7:42That's, you know, And then obviously California's been
- 7:44always been up there, but you know, Georgia and some of these
- 7:48other states are rising up. But like, if you ask, you know,
- 7:5350 people, 49 of them are going to say that Texas or Florida is
- 7:56the best state for high school recruiting.
- 7:58That usually translates to the Texas schools being pretty good,
- 8:01But there's been kind of a dip for several years and then now
- 8:06there's been a resurgence. So I mean, just kind of thinking
- 8:09through it, I this question kind of posed to me.
- 8:11Obviously you had the 2 flagship universities playing on
- 8:15Saturday. So that kind of sparked some
- 8:17things with Florida beating Texas, beating pretty handily in
- 8:20the swamp, but then just kind of seeing the magnitude of Miami
- 8:24and Florida State. And then at the same time
- 8:27Houston and Texas Tech were playing and it made me think I
- 8:31was like, oh, yeah, Texas A&M is playing Mississippi State right
- 8:34now. And I just there's a lot of
- 8:36these schools that, you know, you could start to match up with
- 8:40each other and like UCF, you like USF.
- 8:44But you know, they they're I guess no slouch overall.
- 8:48They're they'll hold, they're hold their own to a certain
- 8:51extent. And the big three in Florida
- 8:52being actually somewhat relevant this year is important.
- 8:56You know, they're all, you know, say what you will about Florida,
- 8:59obviously they beat Texas, but they I, I almost, I stopped
- 9:04short of saying that they're all having pretty good seasons, but
- 9:06Florida is hanging by a thread. But they did just beat the mess
- 9:10out of Texas. So what do you think, Texas
- 9:12versus Florida? Like if I'm taking like the
- 9:16average of those, am I saying like who has the better crop of
- 9:20of teams which state? Yeah, just take it how you want.
- 9:23That's kind of like, yeah. I think still Texas, I think
- 9:30like your top three, like let's go top three for top three.
- 9:34Maybe after that Ford is deeper, I don't know.
- 9:35UCF is OK. USF might make the playoff this
- 9:38year. My wife's alma mater go Bulls in
- 9:43the top three. You know, Texas, Texas A&M,
- 9:45Texas Tech all having very good seasons.
- 9:48Order state beat Bama. We'll see how they finish.
- 9:51Miami's very good. Florida beat Texas.
- 9:54I don't know, maybe still Texas. I don't know.
- 9:56I think it's an interesting question.
- 9:57I'll I'll ask my related question.
- 9:59It's another Florida and Texas schools.
- 10:01How about this, Daniel, who's more likely to go undefeated,
- 10:04Texas Tech or Miami? I think statistically I'll give
- 10:07you a chance to look at their schedule if you'd like.
- 10:09Statistically, these are the two teams that have the highest
- 10:12chance to go undefeated this season into the playoff.
- 10:17Maybe Ohio State is up there just because of how good they
- 10:20are compared to their schedule, but they do play a better crop
- 10:23of teams down the stretch. And I mean, Dang, I told you
- 10:27last year, until they do it, I'm picking Michigan to beat Ohio
- 10:29State. So please don't let me forget
- 10:31that when I go to pick Ohio State in Week 14.
- 10:35Yeah, who's more? I don't think you're going to
- 10:37listen to Miami. Yeah, I'm looking.
- 10:40I'll. Tell you, for me, I think it's
- 10:42Texas Tech. Like I think Miami still plays
- 10:46the way their schedule sets up at the end.
- 10:48They end with two Rd. games and then the ACC championships all
- 10:53the way from home. And while I think they have the
- 10:55best lines of scrimmage in the country, I think the difference
- 10:59in Miami's line of scrimmage and who they play the rest of the
- 11:01way is the gap is not as big as the bodies Texas Tech has on
- 11:08their schedule. Like, I think me included, as a
- 11:11college football community, we need to look at Texas Tech
- 11:15differently because of who they've brought in the portal
- 11:18and who they've recruited as freshmen.
- 11:19Like they are recruiting a different type of player and
- 11:22they brought in a different type of player at Texas Tech.
- 11:24And the rest of the Big 12 has skill players are comparable.
- 11:27But those big bodies, no one else in the Big 12 has those big
- 11:29bodies. So I think it's Texas Tech.
- 11:33But I don't know, BYU has some guys that you know, they're all
- 11:38you got a mortgage and some kids and stuff.
- 11:39So like they. They're 28.
- 11:42Yeah, they. Make a good point.
- 11:44Just tuck that one away. Tuck that one away.
- 11:47BYU with a quarterback with a non quarterback number which is
- 11:51sacrilegious. Yeah, he's been in the uniform
- 11:54segment. Yeah, dude, like throw them away
- 11:57all the way. I think the toughest team, if
- 12:00you look at both schedules, the toughest team on either schedule
- 12:03remaining is I think Louisville and that's on Miami schedule.
- 12:07So and that's their next opponent.
- 12:09So I could I could get down with that.
- 12:10They do have a bye week to to prepare for Louisville, so we'll
- 12:14see. By the way, Miami had bye week,
- 12:17Florida State bye week, Louisville and they don't have a
- 12:20bye the rest of the year. I'm interested to see if they
- 12:22run out of gas because of the way they're by set up.
- 12:24It's very, very weird. We'll see.
- 12:26We'll see. All right, Daniel, second
- 12:27question. All right, I guess it's time for
- 12:30my other question. Yeah, hold on, hold on.
- 12:32I I know how the show works. I've been there before.
- 12:36Yeah, yeah. So my question, all right, this
- 12:41may just be like a little siren song.
- 12:44I saw them win one game and all the sudden am I back in?
- 12:49Can Clemson climb back into national relevance this season?
- 12:55So, no, obviously, the one in three start terrible.
- 13:00OK. That being said, they've got the
- 13:05big win against UNC. Tyler from Spartanburg is just,
- 13:09you know, sending Dabo, you know, a bunch of DMS and just
- 13:14ruining his his his life. But I look at it.
- 13:19I mean, but and again, I know normally when you look at a
- 13:22schedule, Jacob, we're looking at it and we're saying, oh,
- 13:25that's an easy win. That's an easy win.
- 13:26That's an easy win because it's a good team.
- 13:28I don't know if Clemson's a good team.
- 13:29I know that they just beat the mess out of UNC team that I
- 13:33still don't have any idea. I'm pretty sure they're
- 13:35terrible, but I don't know how bad they are.
- 13:37Like, is this rock bottom? Are they a sideshow?
- 13:41Was this actually a good win? Because they do have some
- 13:44players, like I know players on their team, but OK, so walk with
- 13:49me through this. They play Boston College this
- 13:50week. They come home and play SMU.
- 13:54They play Duke at home. They get Florida State at home.
- 13:59Then they go to Louisville, got Furman at home, and they play at
- 14:02South Carolina. I'll say this, South Carolina
- 14:04does not look as good as they did before the season.
- 14:09Do I think that that makes it any more winnable for Clemson?
- 14:13No, not necessarily because like that's a rivalry game.
- 14:17And you know, South Carolina won last year and I think Clemson
- 14:20may have been the better team last year.
- 14:21So, but I'll say this, if they win all of the rest of their
- 14:28games, if they beat Boston College, SMU, Duke, First State,
- 14:33who's good, Louisville, who's good on the road, Herman and
- 14:37then at South Carolina, I don't know, man.
- 14:41I think that that they're not going to be an ACC title
- 14:46contender because I think there's too many teams ahead of
- 14:48them and mathematically it's just not going to work out for
- 14:51them. It would just take a lot of
- 14:54extra help for that to happen. And they already have the head
- 14:57to head loss of Georgia Tech. But I don't know, man, I feel
- 15:01like they could, they could ruin Florida State's run.
- 15:05They could they could step on Clemson's, you know, season.
- 15:09They could step on Louisville season.
- 15:11I'm not just meaning by being a spoiler.
- 15:13I think that they can affect what the playoff picture looks
- 15:16like. And we might think of them
- 15:19differently if they go on that kind of a run too.
- 15:21If they end up 9:00 and 3:00 and then go to I don't know what,
- 15:26what bowl, the Belk Bowl, Dukes, Mayo Classic.
- 15:29If they because they they have two conference losses, number
- 15:33one, I think schedule wise I think they're going to be an
- 15:35underdog at Louisville and outside and out South Carolina.
- 15:38So we're asking the to pull 2 upsets.
- 15:40I think they'll be a slight favorite home against Florida
- 15:42State and I am pulling from our good friend K Ford ratings his
- 15:46numbers there. So I've got some smart people
- 15:48backing me up on that. The problem is you've got 2
- 15:52conference losses, does Georgia Tech, you need Miami or Georgia
- 15:56Tech. So you need Miami to lose at
- 15:57least 2. You need Georgia Tech to lose at
- 15:59least three to get into the ACC championship.
- 16:01Because I was going to say they could go 93 when the ACC and
- 16:04sneak into the playoffs again just like they did last year.
- 16:09But I think it's less likely this year just given how the
- 16:12standings will shake up. But I I will believe it when I
- 16:16see it. How's that again?
- 16:19I think this was good medicine and again, some teams don't take
- 16:22good medicine. Penn State had a made ready
- 16:26situation to go to UCLA and work out that loss against Oregon and
- 16:30just, you know, paint the field with their blood and lost out
- 16:34right. So Clemson did take the good the
- 16:37good Lords medicine and Bill Belichick's Tar Heels and and,
- 16:41and and beat him pretty good. So that's what you think you
- 16:43need to do We'll see. I saw on Twitter this week
- 16:46someone said that the funniest thing about the tower from
- 16:49Spartanburg, whole thing that happened was that in 2023, I
- 16:52can't remember, I think so. Was that Dabo let him finish?
- 16:57Yeah, dude talk for I don't like.
- 16:59He just let him finish his all rant.
- 17:03No one, no one, no one hit the kill button.
- 17:07He just let him finish. That's so funny.
- 17:09I think he was just so interested in what he was
- 17:11saying. He's like I need.
- 17:12I'm hanging on his every word. This is this is the greatest
- 17:15sport in the world. He's like, this is brand new to
- 17:17me. Everybody usually loves me.
- 17:19Let me hear this so. I mean, do you just imagine
- 17:22another sport being like, hey, you just came off the field and
- 17:25whatever, you know, play. We've got, you know, Joe Schmo
- 17:28from, you know, rural Georgia, he's got a question for you and
- 17:30you just like let him go on for like complaining about the team
- 17:34for 5 minutes. Oh, it's.
- 17:35So it's essentially the Fine Baum Show, but it's hosted by
- 17:38the head coach. Like what?
- 17:41You need to imagine, you know, you got, I don't know, Anthony
- 17:44Edwards coming off the court and they're like, hey, man, we've
- 17:46got a, you know, we've got Daniel from St.
- 17:48Cloud, MN. He's got a question for you.
- 17:50They're like, what? And you used to talk for 5
- 17:52minutes while he's sitting up there, dude, No other sports
- 17:56like this one. You know, my second question.
- 18:00All right, let's project out to Week 14.
- 18:03All right, Austin, TX. Could Texas versus Texas A&M
- 18:07decide who gets a spot in the College Football Playoff the
- 18:09other season? I think it might.
- 18:12It did last year. It did last year, it decided who
- 18:16played for the SEC championship that game had and I think that
- 18:19gets forgotten. That game got watered down
- 18:21because it was you mean Texas A&M just could not move the ball
- 18:24so it became a boring game. Texas A&M looks like the better
- 18:26team so far this year. But look, with this is a long
- 18:30season. We said this with Alabama Week
- 18:321. Like these teams that are deep
- 18:34and talented, at some point things probably will click and
- 18:39it's a matter of can they click before it's too late?
- 18:41Texas has two losses, not too late for them.
- 18:44Things could click for Texas still this year.
- 18:47And we'll forget the first four weeks, just like people probably
- 18:50are already forgetting the Florida State beat Alabama
- 18:53handedly in Week 1 because they look like a completely different
- 18:57team. So that's my question.
- 18:58I'm just kind of looking ahead and go, you know, as we're doing
- 19:00our playoff picks, going to look in ahead and going, huh?
- 19:04We might have two, two or three lost teams playing in that game.
- 19:07And winner kind of gets a spot there at the, you know, into the
- 19:11playoff bracket. So that would make that game
- 19:14that is already a fun rivalry game that needs to be moved back
- 19:17to Thanksgiving even more fun this year.
- 19:20So. How much of a nightmare would it
- 19:22be for Texas if Texas Tech and Texas A&M are both in the
- 19:26playoffs and they are not? I mean, again, that's just like
- 19:31a whole mind situate. Like, that's the flagship
- 19:33program. People that aren't a part of it
- 19:35don't like flagship program like you and your community.
- 19:39A Texas fan like Texas A&M and Texas Tech have never been able
- 19:44to say anything to you. And if they're both in the
- 19:47playoff and you're not, I mean. Again, irrational sport with
- 19:51irrational fans. But did there be people calling
- 19:54for Shark's job after they like almost won the SEC in year 1?
- 19:58And what's the playoff? Went to the semis?
- 20:00Yeah, not saying that's right, but that would happen.
- 20:03Of course. Daniel, we get to halftime here.
- 20:06We've got our updated XPR, which if you're watching on YouTube,
- 20:09you can see on screen, we've got our beautiful new graphic,
- 20:12which, hey, shout out to Ben Doherty.
- 20:15He's watching us record right now.
- 20:16Ben is doing graphics for us. We're really grateful and
- 20:19appreciative. Met Ben on LinkedIn of all
- 20:21places. So shout out to LinkedIn.
- 20:23He was searching for some other show that I don't know.
- 20:27It's I think it's some no name show like Josh Peyts college
- 20:30football show and found ours instead.
- 20:32So grateful that we can oblige. But yeah, so new XPR graphic as
- 20:36you can see on screen. I'll call it the top five.
- 20:39And if you're not watching on YouTube, you can get the graphic
- 20:41on at the extra point pod on Instagram or you can follow
- 20:45Daniel on Twitter at the South Daniel me on Twitter at Jacob
- 20:48Karns with AK that top five Ohio State, Oregon, Miami, Ole Miss,
- 20:52Oklahoma. Daniel, my question is, man,
- 20:55who's the best team in the country right now?
- 20:57Because I think everybody's got the same top three.
- 21:00And those are the top three that have gotten AP votes for number
- 21:03one. I have I, I put Miami won this
- 21:05week in my personal poll, which is like 1/5 of the ranking,
- 21:09right? And you've got 1/5 of the
- 21:10ranking as well. And then as I'm digging in the
- 21:12games this week, I'm like, which we'll talk about them.
- 21:15Ohio State, I think has a obviously a good argument to
- 21:19being #1 as of last week, we were both on Oregon being the
- 21:23number one team in the country. I think they've all looked the
- 21:25best at different times and I definitely think that's the top
- 21:28tier. I mean, as of Week 7, Daniel,
- 21:30who's the best team in the country?
- 21:32You and I both ranked Miami number one.
- 21:34I think there's obviously a recency to it, but that's just
- 21:36because we have the most data as of now.
- 21:39I thought Ohio State did exactly what they're supposed to do with
- 21:41Minnesota. A lot of people will try to like
- 21:43downplay the wind. They dominated them.
- 21:46And there is no like in Minnesota.
- 21:48I mean, I'm not saying they're a great team, but like they did
- 21:51what they're supposed to do with that dream.
- 21:55And it's not, it's not this isn't like, you know, New Mexico
- 21:58State, like they beat a conference opponent who, albeit
- 22:02overmatched, dominated them. So there's been years past where
- 22:06they play around with a team like that.
- 22:07So Ohio State, I still got respect on their name.
- 22:11Oregon, you know, if you were like, Hey, I I really need to
- 22:15know who's going to win between if I had to pick one of these
- 22:20three to make the run. I have more of a feeling about
- 22:23Oregon over the other two teams because I just I think I trust
- 22:28like Dan landing with the defense more.
- 22:31I think that's and then Dante Moore, my pre season Heisman.
- 22:34I'm hanging on to it tightly, but I think that they have maybe
- 22:39the highest ceiling. And so I would probably bet on
- 22:41the highest ceiling in in between those three.
- 22:43But Miami is the newest to this table for me.
- 22:48And I I'm trying to reimagine them as not just a playoff
- 22:54contender, but a title contender.
- 22:56And that's my biggest shift this past week.
- 22:59I moved them from a list of playoff contenders to my list of
- 23:03title contenders. Yeah, I'm with you.
- 23:07Be sure to check that out. And again, our XPR, our extra
- 23:10point ranking is really a BCS like ranking.
- 23:13So we just like the BCS. Do we take some of the best
- 23:15computer models mixed with human poles, in this case, your
- 23:20ranking and my ranking, kind of combine them and create a BCS
- 23:23like ranking. I still think the BCS is the
- 23:25best way to rank teams. Everybody hated it until it was
- 23:28gone. Now we have a committee of
- 23:30people who look like they've never watched a football game
- 23:32before deciding. At the time.
- 23:34That's helpful. So RIP the BCS.
- 23:36We're going to keep it alive with their XPR.
- 23:39Daniel, we've reached the halfway point in the season ish.
- 23:41We made a playoff projection pre season.
- 23:44Daniel. We're not going to go all the
- 23:45way to who wins it, but as of today, who's in your top 12?
- 23:49Who's making the playoff? Now that you've seen teams play,
- 23:52we have data who's making the playoff in your eyes, you get a
- 23:56chance to re pick Daniel. Give me your top 12 all.
- 24:00Right, so here we go, I've got Miami #1 because I'm expecting
- 24:08them to finish undefeated. There you go, you.
- 24:10Answered I think they have the easiest question.
- 24:13I think the easiest way to be #1 is to finish undefeated and to
- 24:17win your conference. So I think that they have that
- 24:19path. Next, I have Ohio State, Alabama
- 24:21and #3 I think right now they're most likely out of the SECI also
- 24:28think that if you there's a chance that one loss SEC team is
- 24:31in above a one loss Big 10 team. So just depends on that one.
- 24:36I have Oregon #4 since we did the RE rack now, or you can have
- 24:42a second conference team that doesn't have the conference
- 24:45champion, of course. So Oregon's number 4 for me.
- 24:49I have George at #5 I have Ole Miss and number six, I have
- 24:54Texas Tech and #7 Florida State and #8 and that's that's Florida
- 25:00State who's going to be in the ACC championship game.
- 25:02OK for a rematch free season. Oklahoma, I have #9 Georgia Tech
- 25:0910, looking at that schedule, man, I think that they're going
- 25:12to they'll be able to sneak in the playoff this year.
- 25:14Texas A&M #11 And rounding it out with Group of 6.
- 25:21I have two lane. OK, we've got, we'll see our
- 25:24overlap here, Daniel. I've got Ohio State at one.
- 25:28I think if the Big 10 champ is 1 or 0 losses or the SEC champ,
- 25:33spoiler alert, I don't think the SEC champs going to have 01
- 25:36loss. So Ohio State at 1:00, I've got
- 25:38Miami at 2, Oregon at 3, Alabama at 4.
- 25:42The SEC, so same top 4 as you, just a little bit different
- 25:45order. Got Texas Tech at 5:00, Georgia
- 25:50at six, Ole Miss at 7, Indiana at 8.
- 25:54So there's our first difference there.
- 25:55I've got Indiana in there from the Big 10, Texas A&M at 9,
- 26:01Tennessee at 10. There's our other difference,
- 26:04Oklahoma at 11, best F at 12. Go Bulls.
- 26:09A little bit of bias there from. How many SEC teams do you have
- 26:14in your OK? And I've got three from the Big
- 26:1810, one from the ACC, one from the Big 12, one from the Group
- 26:22of five. So this is, again, people will
- 26:25scream SCC bias from the rooftops.
- 26:28It's just, I mean, the Big 10, what other team is going to come
- 26:30out at 9:00 and 3:00 or better from the Big 10?
- 26:33Like I do have like USC at Michigan kind of projected that
- 26:36nine and three range. I just don't think with their
- 26:38schedules, it's going to be able to line up with a nine and
- 26:41three. Texas A&M, Tennessee, Oklahoma
- 26:43who I all have at 3 losses projected and all in the
- 26:46playoff. You put, you put three Big 10
- 26:49teams. I only put 2.
- 26:50So yeah, you know, but you did put one extra SEC team.
- 26:54I put 5. My issue is for some reason I'm
- 26:58validating the ACC. But we'll see.
- 27:01We'll see what happens with, yeah, Florida State, Georgia
- 27:03Tech, Miami down the stretch. I love it.
- 27:07What do you think? Let us know in the comments, let
- 27:10us know on Twitter. Who do you think makes the
- 27:11playoff now that you've seen games?
- 27:13I was going to say now that we have our XPR and playoff picks,
- 27:15my playoff picks look very similar to our current top 12,
- 27:19minus the the group of 6 champ. Let's see, I've got everybody
- 27:23but Mizzou in there. Oh, and there you go.
- 27:27That's the one spot is your group of 6 champs.
- 27:29So I'm like, that's for sure not going to happen.
- 27:31I already feel bad about it. We're not going to have this
- 27:33figured out in in week 7. So, yeah, but excited for for
- 27:38that to come to fruition. It's a good time to start
- 27:40thinking about it, at least as we hit the midway point in the
- 27:44season. Daniel, third quarter week this
- 27:47week, we're only picking four games against the spread.
- 27:49What are three more games we need to be watching this weekend
- 27:53as we hit Week 7? Well, you know me and you know
- 27:55I'm going to pander to my alma mater occasionally.
- 27:58We are going to the game. So I figure Kennesaw State,
- 28:02Louisiana Tech and in the bank Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
- 28:07In the bank. Yeah, so we're going to be
- 28:10staying on the sideline. If you're watching ESPNU on
- 28:13Thursday night, look out for us. We'll be the handsome gentleman
- 28:17with the credential around our neck and the extra point hats
- 28:19on. But yeah, check us out that
- 28:23game. Jacob Kennesaw State's on a
- 28:26winning streak. I don't know if you're aware.
- 28:27So they have found a quarterback.
- 28:30I know you're aware. I'm just putting out for
- 28:32listeners. Odom has been a great dual
- 28:34threat quarterback. Looks like.
- 28:36I mean, I'm the my biggest concern is that he looks too
- 28:39good and that big team is going to poach him in the transfer
- 28:42portal, which is inevitably going to happen in the
- 28:44offseason. Hopefully that does not happen.
- 28:46Mario Odom stay forever. All that to be said, he
- 28:50Louisiana Tech is Kennesaw State toughest game remaining on their
- 28:55schedule so they can get through this game.
- 28:57I mean, they could have a nice little finish here and maybe go
- 29:00to a pretty good bowl game. First season under Jerry Mack.
- 29:02Shout out. OK, I got my fandom out of the
- 29:05way. How about this?
- 29:06Tennessee hosting Arkansas now Tennessee's a different team
- 29:12than they were last year. Arkansas is a different team.
- 29:14You know, obligatory Tennessee had to play this game in
- 29:18Fayetteville last year. They get this game at home.
- 29:20I think it's going to be a much different game.
- 29:23I want to see how Tennessee responds in this type of a game.
- 29:25I want to see how they play against the team that they
- 29:28should beat. They obviously had to go to two
- 29:31overtimes against Mississippi State.
- 29:34I think this, you know, you put Tennessee in your playoff.
- 29:39I like Tennessee to to kind of go on a little bit of a run.
- 29:42They've got Alabama next week. Are they looking ahead or are
- 29:46they able to beat who's in front of them at home?
- 29:49So this will be a big test for for a Tennessee team this week.
- 29:53And also, I didn't mention that they had a bye week.
- 29:57So did Arkansas. And obviously Arkansas had just
- 29:59fired Sam Pitman. So this is the return of the
- 30:02Bobby Petrino era to Arkansas. It's you're going to want to
- 30:08watch this game, put it, you know, mark it down.
- 30:10And then of course, we're not picking this game.
- 30:13They don't call me Deep South Daniel for nothing but do the
- 30:16Deep South oldest rivalry, Georgia and Auburn.
- 30:19It's the 7:30 PM ABC game. If you look at our normal picks,
- 30:24I mean, we're pretty regularly have that 730 ABC game on our
- 30:28our top 4 picks. So the fact that it's not is
- 30:30interesting, but it just, you know, that's Auburn's fault, but
- 30:34it's injured in hair at night. Should be spooky, as they say.
- 30:39Tough place to play Georgia's 3 1/2 point favorite.
- 30:42So got to watch out for that one.
- 30:44But definitely going to be watching it.
- 30:46Jacob, what about your your games to watch your uniform
- 30:49matchups and if there is any other games that may have
- 30:53missed? Yeah, OK, 111 to keep an eye on
- 30:57as we talk about our playoff projection.
- 30:58As far as a game, North Texas and USF play Friday night and
- 31:02North Texas undefeated in the American.
- 31:04I do think the American champ gets in like that.
- 31:07That will be the representative. You've got Tulane, USF, North
- 31:11Texas and Memphis to me that are like the contenders for that
- 31:14spot. Again, USF's only lost to Miami
- 31:18talked about best team in the country.
- 31:20So I think this is a college ball playoff elimination game on
- 31:23Friday night. So I think that's a fun one to
- 31:24watch Two really fun offenses, 2 teams that wear green.
- 31:28So keep an eye on that game with with Addy's Bulls.
- 31:33All right, Daniel, 3U matchups that should be great this
- 31:37weekend. I'll say 1.
- 31:39You already said Deep South, all this rivalry, Auburn and
- 31:42Georgia. I do think this is the best
- 31:44combo of uniforms is when Georgia plays at Auburn only
- 31:48exception of course, being the we've only gotten it one time.
- 31:51But in O 7, the black jerseys against Auburn was great, but
- 31:55George's roan uniform against Auburn's home uniform look
- 31:59Auburn, I know that y'all quote UN quote change the uniform and
- 32:03like basically put on different face masks for different games
- 32:06is like they're changing the uniform.
- 32:08It's not good. The Navy face mask is perfect
- 32:10with that helmet. Just stop, just leave that
- 32:12alone. You don't need to wear an orange
- 32:15face mask. They're doing an orange out.
- 32:17I have a feeling to be an orange face mask.
- 32:19The Navy face mask looks the best anyway.
- 32:20It's a great uniform match up. You caught out one before he
- 32:23started recording USC versus Michigan.
- 32:26You know this one was coming to the best uniforms in the sport.
- 32:29Daniel colored pants I'm rooting for in this game is actually
- 32:33blue again. Have no problem with blue pants
- 32:35on the road from Michigan. It's at home that I have a
- 32:38problem with because USC wears gold pants.
- 32:40I want the contrast. That would be nice.
- 32:43Yeah, I don't want two different shades of yellow.
- 32:45That's not as good looking. Although they're two separately,
- 32:48they're two good uniforms, not as good for the matchup.
- 32:50So I'm rooting for blue pants. White pants are fine.
- 32:54Lastly, we're going to talk about this game, Red River.
- 32:57Just anytime they play, that's a uniform game.
- 33:01It's just something about the way they look at the Cotton Bowl
- 33:032, like in the sunlight, which. Meant to be.
- 33:06It's probably going to end at night because we're getting a
- 33:08three. Well, I guess a central time.
- 33:09I was going to say we're getting a 330 kick.
- 33:11I do like that game being the noon kick, something I dislike
- 33:14it with a new TV contract. But yeah, man, that one should
- 33:18be such a good uniform matched up in Red River.
- 33:20I think I prefer when Oklahoma's the home team, but I think Texas
- 33:24is wearing orange this year. Have they ever done color V
- 33:26color in that game? Do you know?
- 33:29I don't remember. I don't know if that would be
- 33:32better at all. I don't think so, but they.
- 33:34Both look so good on the road too.
- 33:37So like both of them have elite Rd. uniforms so.
- 33:40That's a helmet game, man. So that one should be great.
- 33:43Daniel, fourth quarter, we're going to pick four games here
- 33:47against the spread. Lot of big games this weekend.
- 33:49Let's start with a new game, Ohio State in Illinois.
- 33:52We had, again, we haven't really talked about Ohio State since
- 33:55week one. They travel on the road to
- 33:57Illinois where Illinois was able to beat USC.
- 34:01They're 14 1/2 point favorites on the road.
- 34:04Ohio State has traveled in the road this year.
- 34:06But you know, next biggest test on the road, 14 1/2 points is
- 34:10the spread. Daniel, who do you like in
- 34:12Champaign? Jacob, I don't know if you're
- 34:13like me and like you just can't get the image of Indiana beating
- 34:19the mess out of Illinois out of your head.
- 34:21But I dream about it at night and it wakes me up.
- 34:24I can't. I don't know if I can trust this
- 34:28Illinois team that I stood on the table for and I said they're
- 34:32going to bully Indiana. I just simply don't know if I
- 34:35can do that. I.
- 34:36Picked them too. So all that to be like 14 and a
- 34:40hook would give me hope if I had any belief that Illinois could
- 34:45do anything in this game. I simply do not believe anymore.
- 34:48It's over. I think Ohio State wins this
- 34:52game. Of course, I've got some recency
- 34:54in this. Like I just mentioned it with
- 34:55them with Minnesota where they just, you know, took him to the
- 34:59woodshed. I think that that's similar to
- 35:00this game. Think they jump on him early and
- 35:03often. There's just too many good
- 35:04players on this team. And I think that I think it's
- 35:08similar, Jacob, to, you know, 2021 and 2022 for Georgia where
- 35:14Georgia wins. And then a lot of people were
- 35:17like, oh, they lost so much talent and then, you know,
- 35:20they're not going to be as hungry and all this kind of
- 35:22stuff. But I think losing all of the
- 35:24talent helps you to be hungry because that's not necessarily
- 35:28your championship for these starters.
- 35:30They weren't starting last year. A lot of them.
- 35:32Now you have some carry over players.
- 35:35Of course you're Jeremiah Smith's and whatnot, but you
- 35:37know, a lot of these players are hungry and I think they're also
- 35:41just playing loose like or at least the coaches are coaching
- 35:44loose like Ryan Day is not like I have to now he hold this
- 35:49bookmark this for the Michigan game.
- 35:51We're going to change it up. We'll find out what they're made
- 35:53of then. But for right now, as long as I
- 35:55don't see an M across from me for Ohio State, give me the
- 35:59Buckeyes lay the points. I would lay 20 points in this
- 36:02game. It's 14 1/2 if I believed in
- 36:04Illinois at all at all. I'm taking them because that
- 36:07hook, I don't believe in them. Give me the Buckeyes.
- 36:12You know, you just frame something.
- 36:13It'll be a good question for me the rest of the season until I
- 36:15see differently. As long as a winged helmet is
- 36:18not lining up across from Ohio State, give me the Buckeyes.
- 36:21Yeah, they they've been since Week 1.
- 36:23They've been the quietest, best team in the country.
- 36:25Yes. I think if Texas was undefeated
- 36:27or, you know, if they were four and one to this point and
- 36:29they're smacking everybody, maybe we'd be talking about Ohio
- 36:31State more. But Texas is kind of falling off
- 36:33and high state, you know, hasn't played anybody.
- 36:37But I mean, they went and beat, I think Washington is a top 25
- 36:41level team. They went in the road and beat
- 36:43in 24 to 6 in one of these spots where we said Daniel, we said
- 36:47that weekend like, hey, there's teams going on the road and
- 36:50losing 4 to state, one on the road and lost to Virginia.
- 36:51And I called it back game and said, is this one of those weeks
- 36:54where it's a weird like is it 1717 in the fourth quarter in
- 36:58the Ohio State jumped on them early.
- 36:59They kept them in an arm's length beat in 24 to 6.
- 37:02Minnesota like a top 50 level team, 42 to 3, like just in
- 37:06every aspect of the game dominated them.
- 37:09Like Illinois lost control of a game versus Indiana, but they
- 37:11bounced back versus USC. They got a good win last week
- 37:14against Purdue. The spreads 14 1/2.
- 37:17So it becomes can it's over 2 touchdowns?
- 37:19Can Illinois stay within two touchdowns of Ohio State?
- 37:22I think for that to happen, you got to find a weakness, right?
- 37:25You got to find like, hey, you know, it's all about matchups.
- 37:28If I'm looking at Ohio State trying to poke holes from what
- 37:31they've done so far this year, they've not had an elite run
- 37:33game. Their total rush offense only
- 37:36ranks 57th in the country. Somebody OK can, can Illinois
- 37:40exploit that? Well, unfortunately, Illinois
- 37:42brush defenses 62nd in total rush defense, 83rd in yards per
- 37:46carry allowed. So I don't think Illinois can
- 37:48exploit anything with the Ohio State offense.
- 37:50And I look at Ohio State's offense and say, well, their
- 37:53total offensive rushing numbers don't look as good because of
- 37:56how easy the pass game looks. And a lot of their screen game
- 38:00is an extension of the run game. But again, they've got so many
- 38:02horses at receiver. They've got, again, quietly one
- 38:05of the best quarterbacks in the country and Julian Sam, that's
- 38:09what it's made their total rushing numbers look not as good
- 38:11because Angle, they've got a running back in Bo Jackson that
- 38:14can run. He's run the ball at 7 1/2 yards
- 38:15of carry this year. And if they need him to do that,
- 38:18I think he has the ability to do that.
- 38:20So I think Ohio State wins and covers this one of the three
- 38:23best teams in the country and they might be the best.
- 38:25I think this is like a 31 to 10 game for Ohio State.
- 38:28I think they get up early. They're on the road.
- 38:30I think they shut it down where I think that's one of those
- 38:33games where they could score 45 if they needed to and they just
- 38:36decide, hey, we're good today. And, you know, Brett Pioma gets
- 38:40like a sad touchdown late to make it 31 to 10, which is still
- 38:44over 14 1/2 points. So give me the Buckeyes to win
- 38:48and cover. Yeah, not a winged helmet line
- 38:51of that. Maybe if they came out in winged
- 38:53helmets, I might, you know, I might think.
- 38:54That's a good strategy. That's a good.
- 38:57They shouldn't play Delaware so. Daniel, we go to Columbia, MO,
- 39:03undefeated, Missouri hosting Alabama.
- 39:07This one's interesting. Daniel Missouri off a bye.
- 39:11Can they can they, can they pull this off against Alabama?
- 39:13And then I'll look at the point spread and I'm like 3
- 39:17interesting, OK, Like 3 points on the road.
- 39:20I get through off a bye, get through undefeated.
- 39:21But I think most people would say Missouri hasn't played
- 39:23anybody. And you know, look at their
- 39:25schedule. It's easy.
- 39:26And this is classic Missouri. But then Vegas, there's a
- 39:29three-point spread. Daniel, who do you like in this
- 39:31game of Colombia? Yeah.
- 39:33What do they know what's going on here?
- 39:35So what I said about Alabama last week was that they weren't
- 39:40going to have the same crowd, like it wasn't going to be the
- 39:42same juice that they played with against Georgia.
- 39:46And that was true. But they they found their way to
- 39:49to whether you know, any sort of a, you know, I guess, you know,
- 39:54they trailed Vanderbilt briefly and then Vanderbilt gave them a
- 39:57good shot. I was obviously impressed with
- 39:59Vanderbilt for how they still played against Alabama last
- 40:02week. That being said, you know, cream
- 40:04rises to the top. I'm looking at this and
- 40:08Missouri, they've been quiet so far.
- 40:12They've played some teams that, you know, Central Arkansas
- 40:15doesn't have a pulse. The Kansas win was interesting.
- 40:18Louisiana doesn't have a pulse. They played South Carolina in a
- 40:22game that. A lot of people probably pick
- 40:24South Carolina, including myself, and then they just
- 40:28squeaked out kind of an ugly win, an ugly but effective win.
- 40:32And then, you know, they destroy UMass last week.
- 40:35There's something behind this that I can't quite quantify.
- 40:38Columbia, MO noon, you know, 11:00 local time there.
- 40:44Alabama going out there is a sleepy.
- 40:46This would be a Jefferson Pilot game all day just.
- 40:51But you're going to go out there, you're playing a team
- 40:54that, you know, Beau Purbulla, dual threat quarterback, 3
- 41:00rushing touchdowns this year, 12 total touchdowns been, you know,
- 41:03competent through the air. But the stories of Mod Hardy,
- 41:07730 rushing yards already on the young season.
- 41:12I mean, just a stud. Georgia had success running the
- 41:15ball against Alabama 2 weeks ago.
- 41:18I think when Vanderbilt was playing, you know, well, they
- 41:21were running the ball. Obviously they had the big
- 41:23touchdown run. This is a Mod Hardy's game.
- 41:27If he can do what those backs did against Alabama, then we're
- 41:32talking about an upset. Don't know if I can pull the
- 41:35trigger on Alabama losing to this Missouri team because I
- 41:41feel like some of these yards and nothing against the Mod
- 41:44Hardy, he's run against some, you know, he's gotten some good
- 41:47yards, but you got to look at who they've played.
- 41:50They haven't faced the front 7 like this.
- 41:53I think Alabama is starting to believe in themselves a little
- 41:55bit too. I don't know if they're going
- 41:57to, you know, I don't necessarily see this is like a
- 42:00dominating win, but I don't think you're going to be out
- 42:03like they the everything that Missouri's going to throw at
- 42:07them maybe keeps this game close for a while.
- 42:10But I think Alabama wins by 10 to 14 points.
- 42:12So I'm not going to try to over analyze this and be like, oh,
- 42:17because of the run game and because of Damon Wilson, who's
- 42:21going to, he's got 3 1/2 sacks, he actually can get the
- 42:23quarterback on the ground. I do think that that's a factor
- 42:25in this game. Alabama can just win several
- 42:28different ways. I think Alabama's going to win
- 42:30this game. Lay the points.
- 42:32Like you looked at my notes for for a little bit of this,
- 42:34Missouri can run the ball and I'm also looking at Vandy how
- 42:38was able to run the ball. Florida State was able to run
- 42:41the ball in Alabama. Georgia ran forever 200 on
- 42:44Alabama. I think if Missouri can get an
- 42:46early lead in the game, then they can play keep away with
- 42:50Alabama. Because I think the problem with
- 42:52Georgia was was you ran the ball so well, but you'd spotted him
- 42:5524 points in the first half, right?
- 42:58And Florida State got up early in blitz to make it kind of play
- 43:01keep away and when they game that way.
- 43:05But I saw Vandy get up early and Alabama March back.
- 43:08I just I've seen Alabama struggle to run to run the ball
- 43:12effectively. And they've got Jim Miller back
- 43:13the last two weeks. He started to look a lot better
- 43:15last week. And I've seen them struggle to
- 43:17stop the run and I've seen them win on the road in Athens while
- 43:22while while struggling, throwing the ball and while not being
- 43:25able to stop the run and still going to Stanford Stadium and
- 43:28win. I just, I'm believing in that
- 43:30team. Like you said, I think they can
- 43:31win in more ways than one. I do think Missouri keeps it
- 43:34close. I don't think the Bo Purbula can
- 43:36beat Alabama through the air. And I think Ty Simpson can carve
- 43:40up any defense he wants to, and I think he does.
- 43:42I think Bama wins and covers. I think it's a touchdown game.
- 43:45So if I'm getting three points, Liam, I think it's like a 3124
- 43:49game. I do expect Missouri to run the
- 43:50ball and run it effectively again.
- 43:53I just don't think it when it comes time for Beau Purbill to
- 43:55win the game through the air if he can.
- 43:58If they don't get an early lead, I worry about them trying to
- 44:01play their game and just playing to keep it close instead of
- 44:05playing to win the game. If they start playing to win the
- 44:07game, does Beau Purbillo start throwing it to the other team?
- 44:11So I'm with you and that I like I think Alabama can win this
- 44:13game in more ways than one. And I've been impressed so far
- 44:16that they've not had a great run game and not have a great run
- 44:20defense and still winning and beating good teams the last two
- 44:23weeks. So this is kind of the last game
- 44:25in this three run stretch of their playing teams that are off
- 44:28a by ranked SEC matchup. This one on the road.
- 44:32I think they go and get the job done.
- 44:33Daniel. I think this team clicked after
- 44:34I think they needed that week one loss to get punched in the
- 44:37mouth and taste their own blood. And I think they're they're
- 44:39looking like a classic Alabama team at this point in the
- 44:42season. So I think they go on the road
- 44:43get it done at Columbia 3124 Alabama wins and covers.
- 44:49Let's go to Eugene, OR undefeated Indiana undefeated
- 44:55game day is going to be at this game top 10 matchup.
- 44:59Some might say biggest game of the week this week.
- 45:02Probably a lot of big games this week.
- 45:05May I you know this is this is like a who are you moment in
- 45:10this game, right? Like Indiana.
- 45:12Who are you really? Now we get to find out beating
- 45:14up in Illinois with one thing. Now you get Oregon who you and I
- 45:18at the some point this season have called Oregon the best team
- 45:20in the country. You've said in this episode
- 45:21highest ceiling in the country. Ding who you like in this game
- 45:24in Eugene. Yeah, I think CBS finally
- 45:27getting a big a big stage again. They've, you know, after losing
- 45:32the SEC couple years ago, it's like people have made jokes like
- 45:36they gave up the SEC for this because it's usually like one
- 45:39good team and then just a terrible team because Big Noon
- 45:42takes obviously the best. Yeah, true, true, true.
- 45:47But I mean, it was, you know, that was a good game.
- 45:49Not as a. Compliment.
- 45:51Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. So that ended up being it ended
- 45:55up being great for them. But yeah, no, it was this.
- 45:57But you got actual top ten match up here for whatever reason, you
- 46:02know, Big Noon, I guess, just really wanted Ohio State, so
- 46:05they didn't take this game. So we got 2 undefeated teams.
- 46:08You're going to see somebody get their first loss of the season.
- 46:12And this quarterback matchup, Mendoza versus Moore, I mean,
- 46:15that's like there's going to be a lot of NFL eyes on this game,
- 46:19like a lot of analysts and everything that are going to a
- 46:21lot of scouts. Oregon, I mean, we've already
- 46:25talked about it. I think they're the best team in
- 46:27the country or they have the highest ceiling in the country.
- 46:30At times this year, I've called them the best team in the
- 46:32country. I think that they could make
- 46:34that run. They're at home.
- 46:36It's a 7 1/2 point spread. I hate that line.
- 46:38I wish it was less than a touchdown.
- 46:40I think that's an easy slam dunk.
- 46:42I mentioned I can't get Indiana out of my head, how they blew
- 46:45out that Illinois team, Man, I think Indiana's going to come in
- 46:49here. Coach Signetti has his teams
- 46:53ready to play and I think they're going to be able to to
- 46:56come in here and score some points.
- 46:59I don't think that they're going to hang with Oregon.
- 47:02So I think it may be close early because it kind of has to be.
- 47:05They start at 0, but I like Oregon to finish this game on a
- 47:10little bit of a run and kind of imposing their will on Indiana
- 47:15in the second-half. They're the stronger team, both
- 47:17sides of the ball. Give me Oregon to lay the
- 47:20points. I wish it was less than a
- 47:21touchdown. I'm kind of counting on be like
- 47:248 or 10 point game for Oregon, but I think they can get that.
- 47:28So give me the Ducks. Dante Moore lay the points.
- 47:33I've watched Indiana struggle, or excuse me, I've watched
- 47:37Indiana smoke a Nebraska team, Michigan State team last year.
- 47:44They win a hard nosed game against Michigan and then they
- 47:48went and got smoked by 23 on the road to Ohio State at the end of
- 47:53last year, still with the playoff, But it was kind of
- 47:55like, OK, this is a this is a different class of team.
- 48:00Daniel. I've watched Indiana smoke
- 48:02Illinois this year. They go last week and they beat,
- 48:05you know, they won a hard nosed game against Iowa.
- 48:08Now they're going on the road to Oregon with an Oregon team
- 48:11that's off of a by. I think they're going to get
- 48:14smoked again. You know, I've, I've doubt this
- 48:17Indiana team plenty of times, but I feel pretty comfortable
- 48:20going up against. I just think Indiana is, I mean,
- 48:22honestly, Penn State's not getting smoked by these teams.
- 48:26They're kind of in Penn State category of I think Kurt
- 48:29Zingetti is just a really good football coach and he's really,
- 48:32he's a really good winner. I think he's going to win a lot
- 48:35of games against teams that have similar athletes that to them
- 48:38and Indiana and that he's going to win most of those games
- 48:41because he's a really good coach and they have a really good game
- 48:43plan and they've got really good players and they play really
- 48:46disciplined. They play well.
- 48:47I don't think it's going to be in when you get in these
- 48:49situations where you know, one or two games a year where you go
- 48:52up against your Ohio State, your Oregon to just have different
- 48:55bodies than you. Then you just go get smoked.
- 48:57So get get lay the points. I think Oregon can go score for
- 49:01score for them if needed. I don't think they're going to
- 49:03need to. I think their defense can make
- 49:05them one-dimensional. Take the run away with the light
- 49:07box and force Mendoza and maybe he does like force him to make
- 49:11some tough throws to win the game.
- 49:13I think, I don't think it's at least a 14 point game.
- 49:16We'll hear in Eugene. They're off a by.
- 49:18It's a bad spot for Indiana. They're on the road at Iowa last
- 49:22week. Oregon off a by.
- 49:25It is not built to beat teams like this.
- 49:28So give me Oregon, lay the points.
- 49:30We're in lockstep here so far. Maybe we won't be.
- 49:35Texas and Oklahoma, the Red River Shootout, a game I'd love
- 49:39to go to at some point. Josh Pate is called his favorite
- 49:41game in college football. I get it, even though I haven't,
- 49:44I haven't been. I respect it at the Texas State
- 49:47Fair in the cotton bulk Ding of the stadium sees 1 college
- 49:50football game a year and it's this one.
- 49:52Let's keep that thing open for as long as possible and looks
- 49:55beautiful in the sun. Beautiful uniform matchup we
- 49:58talked about and Daniel, Texas is a 1 1/2 point favorite.
- 50:03Who do you like in the Red River Shootout?
- 50:05Yeah, they get more time at the Texas State Fair.
- 50:07Now, since this is 330 kick, you don't have to rush into the
- 50:11game. How differently are these
- 50:13quarterbacks talked about? John Metier, Arch Manning,
- 50:17similar completions and attempts, Slightly higher
- 50:20completion percentage for for John Metier, but Arch Manning 11
- 50:24touchdowns, John Metier 6. Obviously he's got some rushing
- 50:27touchdowns in there. They both do 5 interceptions for
- 50:30Arch, 3 interceptions for John Mater.
- 50:33Don't you know? They're not obviously the the
- 50:37ceiling was the roof for arch Manning and everybody in his
- 50:40expectations and I, you know, Mater is we're not sure if he's
- 50:46going to play. There's some obviously the
- 50:48expectation is he probably wouldn't be playing because of
- 50:51the surgery, but all of a sudden this week we're starting to get
- 50:54some smoke that he might play. I think Michael Hawkins is like
- 50:58a good obviously he had to play the second-half of the year last
- 51:02year and he played well. They improved when that happened
- 51:05from from Jackson Arnold. So if that happens, I think that
- 51:08they're going to be OK. This Texas defense is probably
- 51:12underrated even by us. I think just because they've
- 51:16really held it together sub last week where they, you know, had
- 51:19to on the road against Florida. They were in some bad spots
- 51:22against Florida and I guess Florida finally listened to
- 51:26everybody and ran the Dang ball, so that helped for that.
- 51:29But I don't know if Texas is diverse enough offensively to do
- 51:35what they need to against this Oklahoma defense.
- 51:37I think it's going to be a low scoring game.
- 51:39If John Metier plays, I kind of think slam dunk Oklahoma wins.
- 51:44I'm still leaning Oklahoma. It's a 1 1/2 point spread.
- 51:46They get the points. That's basically a pick em.
- 51:49I think Oklahoma comes in this game and they win it.
- 51:52They are are better so far this year.
- 51:56They haven't had as tough of a schedule, but I've been
- 51:58impressed with their win against Michigan, their win against
- 52:01Auburn, their dominance specifically on the defensive
- 52:04side of the ball. I think they're going to be able
- 52:06to confuse Arch and to really get in his face.
- 52:10And if Arch had a strong running game this year, I would feel
- 52:14differently about this. I think that he's had to do too
- 52:16much with his legs right now. He's their leading rusher and
- 52:19it's only 160 yards on the year. So they're they're just too much
- 52:23by committee and guys have been hurt.
- 52:26So give me Oklahoma, lay the points or I guess they get the
- 52:30points. So I'll take that point.
- 52:32Give me that 1 + 1 1/2. And if Metier plays, I mean,
- 52:35it's going to be just an amazing reveal.
- 52:38If he comes out and and plays in this game somehow with one hand,
- 52:42he's just only hands the ball off and runs with it and he
- 52:45never throws a pass, that'll be amazing.
- 52:49Greatest sport in the world. Venables in his press
- 52:51conference, basically acting like he's never even heard of
- 52:54John Matier. And so he starts getting
- 52:55questions about it. It's I, dude, I love the like,
- 52:59the pettiness, the secrecy, the like, I can't give up.
- 53:02You know, if I let them know that he's practicing, that gives
- 53:06the entertainment advantage. I love college football.
- 53:08This is the greatest sport. So good.
- 53:12The last two weeks, Daniel, I've seen a team that was desperate
- 53:16for a win and that needed it more, just find a way to get it
- 53:19done. Alabama needed that win more
- 53:22than Georgia. Georgia was favored.
- 53:24I thought Georgia was the better team.
- 53:26I picked Georgia. Alabama wins.
- 53:29Florida. See, I mean, Billy Napier's job
- 53:32on the brink again and all of a sudden they turn a switch.
- 53:36I thought Texas the better team. They should win this game.
- 53:39Florida wins. I think Texas needs this game
- 53:43more. In fact, I know Texas needs this
- 53:45game more. Oklahoma can lose a game and be
- 53:47fine. Texas already has two losses.
- 53:50Your Florida, I mean 10 and two in the SEC.
- 53:52You're in like if you're an SEC team, you were the logo.
- 53:54You're tended to. You're in the playoff.
- 53:56Third loss not guaranteed. So like Texas is back and gets
- 53:59the wall. Can they get it done?
- 54:03Texas is offensive, been well below what people expected.
- 54:06They can't run the ball and you call that out, Daniel, Texas
- 54:09can't run the ball. Do you know who else hasn't been
- 54:11able to run the ball this year? Oklahoma.
- 54:13But we're not talking about it because they're five and O in
- 54:16rush yards per game. Texas ranked 55th in the
- 54:19country. Oklahoma yards per carry, Texas
- 54:22ranked 60th. Oklahoma 100 and explosive runs
- 54:25Texas ranked 76th. Oklahoma 104th.
- 54:28Success rate running the ball. Texas 61st, Oklahoma 56, EPA per
- 54:33rush. Texas 57th, Oklahoma 47th.
- 54:36These are, I mean, you can argue Oklahoma's a worse rushing team.
- 54:39The Texas both are going up against good defenses.
- 54:42Like, don't let Texas record fool you into thinking the
- 54:44defense has been bad this year. It absolutely has not been.
- 54:47They held Ohio State to 14 points in the road in Week 1.
- 54:50It took a herculean effort from DJ Lagway last week, and
- 54:53honestly, a lot of turnovers from Texas I think are through.
- 54:56Three picks in that game. Texas's defense was fine against
- 54:59Florida last week. They're both going up against
- 55:02good defenses even if Metier plays.
- 55:06Which coaching staff do I trust to go and find a run game this
- 55:11week to win? Because I think whatever team
- 55:12figures out how to run the ball is going to win this game.
- 55:16I think I trust Steve Sarkisian to go and find a run game this
- 55:20week. Their backs against the wall,
- 55:23they need this game way more than Oklahoma does.
- 55:27I think they find a way to win this game.
- 55:28I also do worry about Hawkins did not look good last week.
- 55:33I think if Hawkins played, I think this is like a 17th game.
- 55:36If Metier plays look, maybe Oklahoma runs away with it and
- 55:39gets to 30. I've seen a lot of crazy Red
- 55:42River games where the team that shouldn't win went to the game,
- 55:45but in this case Texas is favored and the line opened up
- 55:47at 3 1/2 in. You know from other people I've
- 55:51heard this is with Mater playing baked in to the line.
- 55:54Like this is a we expect John Material to play and we open the
- 55:58line up at 3 1/2 as a Texas favorite.
- 56:00I don't know if that's just priors and computer models for
- 56:03years just loving Texas. This is a stinky line
- 56:07regardless. I think Texas needs it more.
- 56:11I think they win and I think it's 1 1/2.
- 56:14So I think they cover. Think this is like a 2724 Texas
- 56:18win and a classic. Like again, these games are
- 56:21normally very good in a classic Red River game.
- 56:25Think Texas finds a way on Saturday drinking the kool-aid,
- 56:30man, I picked and win the national championship.
- 56:32They got to win this one to get there.
- 56:34So we'll see and I I hope arch looks good doing it.
- 56:39Maybe the Texas fanbase can they can post some new arch aura
- 56:42pictures with when beating Oklahoma instead of same
- 56:44Houston. Maybe that'll be a better arch
- 56:46aura Daniel. That's it man, that's week 7.
