- 0:03Speaker 1: This is a podcast call twenty five whist So stock
- 0:07Speaker 1: is forge and they were a whizz So yet it's
- 0:10Speaker 1: too bad, but it wasn't to expect.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It's a podcast call twenty five whistles, twining, whine.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Whel Welcome to the show, Eddie body Whistle. I want
- 0:21Speaker 1: to start with Shane Gillis's SP's monologue, which he was
- 0:27Speaker 1: getting roasted pretty hard by like traditional media. It was
- 0:30Speaker 1: awesome if you were a sports fan and you like comedy.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It was awesome. Because people in the room weren't comfortable
- 0:35Speaker 1: doesn't mean it wasn't hilarious. People in the room were
- 0:38Speaker 1: not comfortable at first because he went hard.
- 0:40Speaker 3: It was great.
- 0:41Speaker 1: It was a plus. It was so good. He also
- 0:45Speaker 1: wasn't mean. He roasted, but he wasn't mean. He didn't
- 0:50Speaker 1: punch down. He was perfect for it. And I was
- 0:53Speaker 1: so irritated watching some of the reviews, like audience doesn't
- 0:57Speaker 1: laugh during Shane Gillis's SPI monologue because the audience was
- 1:01Speaker 1: scared they were next. The audience was like, oh God,
- 1:04Speaker 1: hope he doesn't come to me. It was perfect. He
- 1:08Speaker 1: was the perfect guy to do it. I'm going to
- 1:10Speaker 1: play some of the jokes so why don't we go
- 1:13Speaker 1: with the clip one? This is the show? Hey, I
- 1:16Speaker 1: don't want to run the jokes, so go ahead of
- 1:17Speaker 1: Mike show.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Hey, Otani couldn't make it tonight, man, I hope his
- 1:21Speaker 4: interpreter didn't bet that he was going to be here show.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Hey is a once in a generation talent. No one's
- 1:28Speaker 4: been able to do what he does at so many positions. Pitcher,
- 1:32Speaker 4: hitter and Bookie. Hey, Bookie is what Bill Belichick reads
- 1:36Speaker 4: to his girlfriend before bedtime. Sugar Ray Leonards here, Ell, yeah,
- 1:43Speaker 4: Sugar Ray, you're the man. But what in ten years?
- 1:45Speaker 4: Jake Paul is going to try to knock you.
- 1:47Speaker 5: Out so easy?
- 1:50Speaker 1: And this is near the end, So the crowd's kind
- 1:52Speaker 1: of gotten into it at this point, and I'm just
- 1:54Speaker 1: kind of playing some in order of why. So this
- 1:57Speaker 1: one is the one that people were upset. Some people
- 2:01Speaker 1: were upset about. This is the Caitlyn Clark joke, the
- 2:03Speaker 1: waffle house joke. It was super funny, unless your little
- 2:07Speaker 1: butt gets hurt at anything. Go ahead, Kaitlyn Clark.
- 2:10Speaker 5: She and I have a lot in common.
- 2:12Speaker 4: We're both whites from the Midwest who have nailed a
- 2:14Speaker 4: bunch of threes. All Right, there you go, light up
- 2:22Speaker 4: a little. This is not serious. We'll see about this one.
- 2:31Speaker 4: When Kaitlyn Clark retires from the w NBA, she's going
- 2:34Speaker 4: to work at a waffle house so she can continue
- 2:37Speaker 4: doing what she loves most, fist fighting. Black women.
- 2:43Speaker 5: Were hard on that one.
- 2:45Speaker 1: It's so funny. Okay, we the three the threes is awesome. Dude, Yeah,
- 2:54Speaker 1: Nail in the threes my favorite joke, and I'll go
- 2:56Speaker 1: ahead and get to it now. Doe number seven. This
- 2:59Speaker 1: is my favorite of the entire night, and I think
- 3:02Speaker 1: people were confused a little while it happened, which is
- 3:04Speaker 1: part of the joke.
- 3:06Speaker 4: Four time w NBA All Star Britney Hicks is here.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Give it up for Brittany, everybody, I'm I'm joking around.
- 3:14Speaker 4: That's my friend's wife. I knew, none of you knew
- 3:16Speaker 4: w NBA players.
- 3:20Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 3:21Speaker 4: You clap for that?
- 3:23Speaker 6: So good?
- 3:24Speaker 1: That's my very joking night. The crowd like, yep, yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 1: Brittany Hicks.
- 3:29Speaker 5: I mean I wasn't even clapping Brinny Hicks.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Four time All Star honor she's here.
- 3:35Speaker 5: That is crazy.
- 3:36Speaker 1: It's so funny. So let's do the clip four alien joke.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Joe Rogan actually wanted me to be here to host
- 3:45Speaker 4: this award show so that I could capture Adam Silver
- 3:48Speaker 4: because Joe thinks he's an alien. And Donald Trump wanted
- 3:51Speaker 4: to be wanted me to be here to capture Juan
- 3:53Speaker 4: Soto for the same.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Reason he got Boodle.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Now it's going hard. I'm telling you, it was perfect. Yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 1: it was pissing off a little group. A little bit
- 4:07Speaker 1: of the group was like, I don't know if I
- 4:08Speaker 1: just laugh because camera's on me, and the other groups
- 4:10Speaker 1: just like dying laughing, and that was shifting throughout the
- 4:13Speaker 1: whole crowd gohing. Hit the next one.
- 4:15Speaker 4: Donald Trump wants to stage a UFC fight on the
- 4:18Speaker 4: White House lawn. The last time he staged a fight
- 4:21Speaker 4: in DC. Mike Pen's almost died.
- 4:25Speaker 1: The crowd down and they were like, that's a good one,
- 4:28Speaker 1: the excellent one. More. Actually, there was supposed to be.
- 4:32Speaker 4: An Epstein joke here, but as it got deleted, must
- 4:38Speaker 4: have probably deleted itself, right, probably never existed. Actually, let's
- 4:44Speaker 4: move on as a country and ignore that the crushed.
- 4:49Speaker 1: If you get a minute like ten, go watch the
- 4:52Speaker 1: entire monologue on TikTok and you've heard a lot of
- 4:54Speaker 1: the jokes is great. Couldn't have done better because there
- 4:57Speaker 1: were enough uncomfortable people, And when you have that, you
- 5:00Speaker 1: can't judge how good or bad it is based on
- 5:03Speaker 1: the reaction of the crowd, because at the beginning of
- 5:05Speaker 1: that it would just huh.
- 5:08Speaker 5: And you're so right with cameras there, you don't want
- 5:11Speaker 5: to react.
- 5:12Speaker 1: And there were celebrities that wouldn't laugh, or you would
- 5:15Speaker 1: see them trying not to laugh because they knew the
- 5:17Speaker 1: cameras were right on them. Because what happens when you're
- 5:20Speaker 1: at an award show. You know where the cameras are,
- 5:22Speaker 1: because the cameraman has a camera on his shoulder and
- 5:25Speaker 1: he gets right and freak in front of you.
- 5:26Speaker 5: Yeah, they don't zoom there, No, yeah, it's not.
- 5:28Speaker 1: From the corner. You know, at any point they're probably
- 5:32Speaker 1: gonna show your face, because it's happened when I've been
- 5:35Speaker 1: these award shows. If they're gonna put me on or
- 5:37Speaker 1: somebody next to me, they'll put the camera right on
- 5:38Speaker 1: the shoulder and be right and you're like, oh God,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I don't know what to do. Have a face. Oh,
- 5:44Speaker 1: that joke's offensive, but it's really funny. What do I do?
- 5:47Speaker 3: And then you look like a bad guy. Yes, yeah,
- 5:49Speaker 3: I think Lamar's head was down at one point that
- 5:51Speaker 3: the camera on him.
- 5:52Speaker 5: His head was.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Yeah, he did a joke about Shuar Sanders did a
- 5:57Speaker 1: whole thing where he was first. It was like, ah,
- 5:59Speaker 1: that's that's not at nepotism because he went thirteen to
- 6:03Speaker 1: twelve and almost on the Alamobowl. That's why Jersey was retired.
- 6:08Speaker 1: And Lamar's like, oh yeah, yeah, He's like, it's Jersey's retired,
- 6:12Speaker 1: that's not nepotism. Look at the look at the stats.
- 6:14Speaker 1: He was thirteen to twelve and almost on the Alamobile. Yeah,
- 6:17Speaker 1: it was good. Oh, I do want to play the
- 6:21Speaker 1: clip of Shack threatening RG three. Good, he takes the
- 6:25Speaker 1: sunglasses off too.
- 6:26Speaker 5: It does man looks on a camera. Yeah.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Shaq was on a podcast recently and threatened to beat
- 6:30Speaker 1: up RG three because RG three keeps coming to Angel Reese.
- 6:32Speaker 1: But mostly it was about that retweet of the graphic
- 6:36Speaker 1: that somebody did and really really really poor taste of
- 6:39Speaker 1: Angel Reese. And RG three didn't have to retweet that
- 6:42Speaker 1: and make the comment. He really didn't. Yeah, And so
- 6:46Speaker 1: Shaq says this on at Gillian bow on Twitter's page
- 6:50Speaker 1: here you go.
- 6:51Speaker 7: Oh, speaking of man RG three tweeting another monkey post
- 6:54Speaker 7: about my girl Angeury, some punch in your face. Okay,
- 6:59Speaker 7: it's enough. I don't usually do stuff like this, but
- 7:01Speaker 7: just stop it, bro, you got your job, you got
- 7:03Speaker 7: your podcast. Leave my angelries alone. I'm the one calling
- 7:06Speaker 7: her and telling her not to respond. Stop it. That's
- 7:09Speaker 7: the last time.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I wouldn't watch coming after me. No, I'm scared
- 7:13Speaker 1: he wouldn't catch me if I'm MARGI three. But if
- 7:16Speaker 1: he does, correct, if he does, that's trouble. We had
- 7:21Speaker 1: the All Star Game a couple of nights ago, and
- 7:24Speaker 1: I fell asleep and stopped watching after like the first inning,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and we came in and I had seen that they
- 7:29Speaker 1: did the swing off at the end. I loved it awesome.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I didn't watch it live. I would never watch anything
- 7:33Speaker 1: that late live on a weeknight because unless it's Arkansas playing,
- 7:36Speaker 1: because I gotta I gotta go to bed. But that
- 7:39Speaker 1: was really cool. I wish they would do that in
- 7:40Speaker 1: major league games instead of bending.
- 7:42Speaker 5: Oh, that'd be amazing.
- 7:44Speaker 1: What was bizarre to me? And again I missed it live,
- 7:46Speaker 1: so I'm not gonna act like I was so die
- 7:48Speaker 1: hard and I was up watching having these thoughts. I
- 7:50Speaker 1: watched it all on clips the next day. I'm like, oh,
- 7:53Speaker 1: this is super cool. It's basically home run derby at
- 7:54Speaker 1: the end of the game, and that what a fun
- 7:57Speaker 1: way because I said to Eddie it was like penalty
- 7:59Speaker 1: kicks in soccer, which I think is the best part
- 8:01Speaker 1: of a soccer match. Penalty kicks because they don't score
- 8:03Speaker 1: any goals, we can at least get some goal scored.
- 8:05Speaker 1: And I thought that was super cool, and that would
- 8:07Speaker 1: be super cool if they implemented that in like the
- 8:09Speaker 1: first half of the regular season, because they're gonna be like, well,
- 8:12Speaker 1: we can't do this in meaningful games, right, fine, that
- 8:16Speaker 1: makes sense. They do take the runner off second base
- 8:17Speaker 1: in the playoffs for extra innings, and people were way
- 8:20Speaker 1: against that in extra innings at first. But if you
- 8:23Speaker 1: just play extra innings with nobody on those stupid games
- 8:25Speaker 1: go seventeen eighteen, nineteen innings, it's crazy to do something
- 8:29Speaker 1: and baseball's already slow. And thought I was boring, So
- 8:33Speaker 1: I love for the first half of the year if
- 8:35Speaker 1: they would do that swing off it was so cool. Yeah. Secondly,
- 8:40Speaker 1: and now I think everybody knows, but people were going
- 8:43Speaker 1: where's Otani? Where's Judge? Why aren't they the ones hitting
- 8:45Speaker 1: the balls? Yeah?
- 8:47Speaker 5: Because they go They go to the managers, right, like
- 8:49Speaker 5: all right, American League, here's your manager of Boone, Like
- 8:52Speaker 5: who are you gonna have hitting? And it's like name
- 8:54Speaker 5: three people? Like who?
- 8:56Speaker 4: Right?
- 8:56Speaker 5: Like you have Aaron Judge? Like who?
- 8:59Speaker 1: They're not there? They went home. I never knew they
- 9:02Speaker 1: went home in the middle of the game.
- 9:03Speaker 5: Wild.
- 9:04Speaker 1: This is how I found out that the players leave
- 9:07Speaker 1: in the middle of the game. Unless you may be
- 9:09Speaker 1: the MVP, then you stay. But other than you just
- 9:13Speaker 1: go home.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Some dudes, like when the locker room changed their clothes
- 9:17Speaker 5: and they were like in regular street clothes, came out
- 9:18Speaker 5: and watched the game. I get it.
- 9:19Speaker 1: But if the one who would it have been to
- 9:21Speaker 1: see them in street clothes? Bomb and ball? They call
- 9:25Speaker 1: them from the bleachers sick, I propose, because again, baseball
- 9:30Speaker 1: is not a sport that makes big changes or any
- 9:33Speaker 1: change quick. But they are a sport now that starts
- 9:36Speaker 1: to see young people don't care as much as they
- 9:39Speaker 1: used to. And you're also seeing the Savannah Bananas sell
- 9:42Speaker 1: out like crazy, impossible to get tickets. So what are
- 9:45Speaker 1: we going to do to grow baseball, because we are
- 9:47Speaker 1: seeing that baseball can be grown if done right. And
- 9:50Speaker 1: I think one of the really cool things to do
- 9:52Speaker 1: would be to make this I'm not going to say
- 9:54Speaker 1: the whole season. I guess the playoffs. Traditionalists will have
- 9:56Speaker 1: a freaking fit the first half of the season leading
- 9:59Speaker 1: up to the All Star Game. Any game going into
- 10:01Speaker 1: extra innings, you do the freaking swing.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Off, yeah, awesome. And then even as a fan you're like,
- 10:07Speaker 3: because if it goes to extras, You're like, I'm out
- 10:09Speaker 3: of here. I'm not gonna stick around. Who knows how
- 10:11Speaker 3: long this is gonna lie. And how they did it too,
- 10:13Speaker 3: with like you get three swings. It's awesome, so cool.
- 10:16Speaker 1: What was also cool too, is that did you watch
- 10:18Speaker 1: it live?
- 10:18Speaker 5: I did, well. I had money on it.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Oh you bet it had.
- 10:24Speaker 5: In the American League. So when they came back, I'm
- 10:27Speaker 5: staying up to watch this thing. What was really cool though,
- 10:30Speaker 5: were the pitch reviews.
- 10:32Speaker 1: So I was going to bring that up next, So
- 10:34Speaker 1: they they did it before the season started, so in
- 10:37Speaker 1: uh spring training, and so the A B S system
- 10:41Speaker 1: Yeah whatever, that system abs challenge system. I would love
- 10:44Speaker 1: for that to be a permanent part of the game,
- 10:46Speaker 1: but not with noamp because that just looks weird if
- 10:49Speaker 1: there's just a catcher and a batter and.
- 10:52Speaker 5: Somebody has to get hit by the ball.
- 10:54Speaker 1: I think eventually whatever robot ump I think being able
- 10:58Speaker 1: to challenge is great, especially with money now being bet
- 11:03Speaker 1: And I'm not the first person to say, now that
- 11:04Speaker 1: money's being bet on games, you need to get it right.
- 11:07Speaker 1: When you can legally allow betting, you need to make
- 11:10Speaker 1: sure the call is right. And that's what happened. It
- 11:13Speaker 1: was so smooth, Buttom the first inning I actually saw
- 11:15Speaker 1: it being used because it was like the first inning
- 11:16Speaker 1: of the game. Pretty cool. Yeah, there was even a
- 11:18Speaker 1: challenge on a call.
- 11:19Speaker 5: There was one where it was just a sliver of
- 11:22Speaker 5: a hit of a strike, like I mean, dude, it
- 11:23Speaker 5: barely touched it about, Like that's legit, it's real. You
- 11:26Speaker 5: can't argue it.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I think umpires are needed. I like humans. I'm pro human.
- 11:33Speaker 1: By the way, wait better now, it can't be any
- 11:36Speaker 1: more pro human than me. But I do think balls
- 11:38Speaker 1: and strikes for sure needs to be able to be
- 11:41Speaker 1: reviewed because everything else can be reviewed. And if we
- 11:45Speaker 1: want to do it the first half of the year, great,
- 11:46Speaker 1: because we've done it in the spring training, we do
- 11:48Speaker 1: it in the All Star Game. Let's just see how
- 11:50Speaker 1: it goes for the first half of the year. Actually
- 11:52Speaker 1: make it in some games that matter.
- 11:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel like the umps. You know, I would
- 11:57Speaker 5: not speaking for every umpire out there, but I feel
- 11:59Speaker 5: like they like to be right.
- 12:00Speaker 1: You know, they got a little bit of power. It's embarrassing.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Some have big egos. It's ridiculous.
- 12:05Speaker 1: I think it's even ego aside. I think it kind
- 12:08Speaker 1: of sucks if you're wrong anyway, even if you're not
- 12:10Speaker 1: a big ego person, like your job is to get
- 12:12Speaker 1: it right. Let's say take balls and strikes out of it.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Let's say tag at second, Oh all right, we want
- 12:18Speaker 1: to review, and you go and review. You're just praying,
- 12:21Speaker 1: oh my god, I hope I'm right, and you were
- 12:23Speaker 1: so animated to when you're out of that, and then
- 12:26Speaker 1: they come back and they're like, overturn the call. You know,
- 12:28Speaker 1: that's even if your ego is not big, even if
- 12:31Speaker 1: you're not the guy that is loud and large, you're like, oh,
- 12:35Speaker 1: now I have to go admit in front of everybody
- 12:37Speaker 1: that I was.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Wrong at my job. And they get graded after every game. Yeah,
- 12:41Speaker 3: like the MLB grades them and sees who does the best,
- 12:44Speaker 3: who's most accurate, So that would suck.
- 12:45Speaker 5: That would suck a little bit.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm all. I want to say it again. I'm
- 12:48Speaker 1: pro human. You can't be any more pro human than me.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Thank goodness, dude, Yeah, glad you are so.
- 12:54Speaker 1: But I think the umpires serve a purpose behind on plate,
- 12:57Speaker 1: just not to have full of thought already of balls
- 13:00Speaker 1: and strikes. They can call balls and strikes, but I
- 13:03Speaker 1: think you should be able to challenge.
- 13:04Speaker 3: And we got to have coaches be tossed. Still, that's fun,
- 13:07Speaker 3: that's great.
- 13:07Speaker 5: Of course.
- 13:08Speaker 1: My favorite are the clips when the coach like, just
- 13:10Speaker 1: throw me out. I'm gonna kick some dirt, John, just
- 13:14Speaker 1: kick me out here. I really need to do a
- 13:15Speaker 1: scene here. High see for dinner later on. Right. They'll
- 13:22Speaker 1: walk out in their mouths covered at first a little bit,
- 13:24Speaker 1: so no one can read their lips of job boy
- 13:25Speaker 1: can't read their left everybody. I was, alright, you just
- 13:27Speaker 1: get me arguing, you mother out of here. So I
- 13:33Speaker 1: did think the game was fun because they got to
- 13:35Speaker 1: wear their old universe, their normal uniforms. Yea, they haven't
- 13:37Speaker 1: done that in like six or seven years. So it hasn't.
- 13:39Speaker 1: But when we were kids, it's all they did. It
- 13:41Speaker 1: wore the original uniforms and it was so cool to
- 13:42Speaker 1: see your guys on your team make the All Star team.
- 13:47Speaker 1: So the All Star Game is great, Like baseball is
- 13:49Speaker 1: doing a pretty good job at trying to smell like
- 13:54Speaker 1: move forward a bit instead of just staying the same,
- 13:56Speaker 1: which was making them fall back. Pitch clock great.
- 14:00Speaker 5: I like, eliminate the shift they did they did with
- 14:04Speaker 5: the defense.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Although you know what the shift. The shift is kind
- 14:08Speaker 1: of a strategic movie of all that. I'm pro human.
- 14:11Speaker 1: I'd like to I didn't really hate the shift. I
- 14:15Speaker 1: didn't just be a better hitter.
- 14:16Speaker 5: And I don't understand like everyone's moved to the right.
- 14:19Speaker 5: You're a wide open on the left. Can't you just like,
- 14:21Speaker 5: come on, just trimp the ball that.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Way a little bit, That's what I'm saying, Like, learn
- 14:25Speaker 1: learn to hit opposite field. You're pro, you know you're
- 14:27Speaker 1: one of the greatest hitters in America, or you wouldn't
- 14:30Speaker 1: be in the major leagues. Maybe learn how to hit
- 14:32Speaker 1: the opposite film wide open over there, swing a fraction
- 14:34Speaker 1: of a second late. That's all you gotta do.
- 14:37Speaker 5: Maybe it's harder than we think. But I don't know.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Probably British open keeping up with it when we do
- 14:44Speaker 1: the show. I don't keep up with it at all.
- 14:47Speaker 1: I guess you do.
- 14:48Speaker 5: We do the show, it's on, and you know we
- 14:49Speaker 5: got a break.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I look over, I'm talking about the morning show. This
- 14:52Speaker 1: morning started this morning.
- 14:53Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean dude, when Yeah, I mean by the time,
- 14:55Speaker 5: like we're rolling on the show, I think the first
- 14:57Speaker 5: group's already done. It's I don't know what how early
- 15:00Speaker 5: it is over there, but it's crazy that half of
- 15:03Speaker 5: the tournament or the day round is pretty much done
- 15:05Speaker 5: when America is starting to roll out of bed.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like football, I know London, but for a
- 15:11Speaker 1: I guess I mean time zones.
- 15:13Speaker 5: You know, I've heard of them. Yeah, but Sundays is
- 15:15Speaker 5: a little different, right, They do roll it out a
- 15:16Speaker 5: little later, like, but it's probably on Sunday, the final round.
- 15:19Speaker 5: It'll probably start at nine am for most most of us.
- 15:21Speaker 1: There's also a cut, yeah, unless players, so you don't
- 15:26Speaker 1: have to cram everybody on as early.
- 15:28Speaker 5: But I'm not I haven't watched any of it, but
- 15:30Speaker 5: I've I hear that, Like the weather.
- 15:32Speaker 1: Is really bad, awesome, That's how I want that. I
- 15:34Speaker 1: want that to be so difficult. I want it to
- 15:36Speaker 1: be like the US Open, where they rough is like
- 15:40Speaker 1: ten feet tall. I want to be cornstalks. And then
- 15:42Speaker 1: I want this the weather to be so bad. It's
- 15:44Speaker 1: like when you're playing Tiger Woods you have an adjust
- 15:45Speaker 1: the arrow because when seven miles an hours, I want
- 15:47Speaker 1: them adjusting their arrows live. Yeah, I want it to
- 15:50Speaker 1: be raining. Yeah, I want the weather to just kick
- 15:52Speaker 1: them right in the balls.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Roy's first two t shots shank them.
- 15:56Speaker 1: He was plus seven fifty. He was a favorite to
- 15:58Speaker 1: win it. Where is he now? Not sure? And again
- 16:01Speaker 1: when you hear this, the day one, maybe day even
- 16:03Speaker 1: day two will be over.
- 16:05Speaker 5: But did you bet?
- 16:07Speaker 1: I didn't?
- 16:07Speaker 5: Do you bet pre round? Ever?
- 16:09Speaker 1: Like for these majors, almost never.
- 16:11Speaker 5: That's the best odds, man, I know, it's like just
- 16:14Speaker 5: to throw a dart in the like.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, best odds because there so many.
- 16:18Speaker 3: But he's under right now.
- 16:20Speaker 1: So who's leading as of right now?
- 16:22Speaker 7: Oh?
- 16:22Speaker 5: Good luck? Okay, good luck?
- 16:26Speaker 3: Ht Lee and Fitzpatrick can't win it on day one,
- 16:30Speaker 3: can lose it on day one though?
- 16:31Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 16:31Speaker 1: Right, So I usually bet it on Saturday.
- 16:35Speaker 5: Do you kind of look at who's leading on Saturday,
- 16:37Speaker 5: and then.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yes, And I never bet the person leading because usually
- 16:40Speaker 1: the odds aren't good. But I'll bet somebody like fifth
- 16:42Speaker 1: or sixth, seventh, or a no name like eleventh or twelfth.
- 16:44Speaker 1: That's it because I can get pretty good odds and
- 16:47Speaker 1: they have consistently played well the last weekend or they
- 16:50Speaker 1: wouldn't be famous and successful. So that's usually what I
- 16:53Speaker 1: look at.
- 16:53Speaker 5: Yeah. Same like, I'll wake up on Sunday, Sunday mornings
- 16:56Speaker 5: before the last round starts, and I'll look at the
- 16:58Speaker 5: leader board and if like Scheffler's up by like ten,
- 17:01Speaker 5: not touching it, you know, like that's that's over. But
- 17:04Speaker 5: if you know, like he said, Morgen Schornsten is leading first.
- 17:10Speaker 1: He felt a little racist toward the muppet chef, right, yeah,
- 17:14Speaker 1: sweetest chef.
- 17:15Speaker 5: There's another guy named Smith, you know. Second, I'm going
- 17:19Speaker 5: with a big name at like third or fourth. Always
- 17:22Speaker 5: let's take a break.
- 17:22Speaker 1: We'll come back and just a little bit and talk
- 17:24Speaker 1: with Stuart Mandel, who is the editor in chief of
- 17:27Speaker 1: The Athletic. We're gonna talk college football and nil and
- 17:30Speaker 1: we'll get into the weeds with that. Give us a
- 17:31Speaker 1: second we'll come back here. Supposedly, drinking Korean pair juice
- 17:37Speaker 1: before drinking alcohol results in a twenty percent improvement in
- 17:40Speaker 1: hangover symptoms. I don't drink, so I've never had the
- 17:43Speaker 1: history of trying to find the hangover cure. What do
- 17:46Speaker 1: you find to be the best for a hangover, Eddie?
- 17:49Speaker 5: So if you want to be proactive, this is what
- 17:51Speaker 5: I've learned through all my ears of drinking. Have one
- 17:55Speaker 5: drink of alcohol, one drink of water, one drink of alcohol,
- 17:59Speaker 5: one drink of water, and you will get rid of
- 18:01Speaker 5: that hangover. You won't even have the hangover. However, if
- 18:04Speaker 5: you don't do that, which I get party situations, you're
- 18:06Speaker 5: not thinking of getting water the next day. Rob it, headaches,
- 18:10Speaker 5: it's hurting, you feel like death in your bed. Manudo
- 18:14Speaker 5: man Go to a Mexican restaurant on Sundays and ask
- 18:19Speaker 5: for manudal.
- 18:20Speaker 1: If a random white person walks in, it's never been
- 18:22Speaker 1: in the Mexican restaurant by themselves, looking a little torn
- 18:25Speaker 1: and tattered, well they know why they're asking from a newdo.
- 18:27Speaker 5: Of course, they won't even ask, like what you want?
- 18:30Speaker 5: I know what you can mean?
- 18:32Speaker 1: Long night, Long Night, Kevin you're from a different part
- 18:35Speaker 1: of the world, Yes, because I feel like.
- 18:38Speaker 5: Where you're from, dude, California.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Based on like the culture you grew up in here.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Yeah, that's rare.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I mean nobody in I was going to find some
- 18:47Speaker 1: menudo if you're in like South Texas, Arizona, Mexico.
- 18:52Speaker 3: Yeah. I used to give my buddy a bunch of
- 18:54Speaker 3: crap Betty for drinking of water in between every single drink.
- 18:56Speaker 5: So was that.
- 18:57Speaker 3: We kind of kind of upset to hear you say that.
- 18:59Speaker 3: But I think you're just getting older and I'll be
- 19:01Speaker 3: there in a little bit older. Smarter, I know it is.
- 19:03Speaker 3: I agree, it is smarter for sure, but we never learned,
- 19:05Speaker 3: do we. I use Alka Seltzer.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I think Alcoa.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Seltzer's the best. Like when it comes to hangovers, number
- 19:10Speaker 3: one is sleep. If you can get sleep, that's the
- 19:12Speaker 3: number one thing, and then you wake up Alca Seltzer,
- 19:14Speaker 3: which they actually have hangover pills. Now, I haven't even
- 19:16Speaker 3: tried it yet because they caught on. I think everybody
- 19:19Speaker 3: likes it and it does a trick so good. The
- 19:22Speaker 3: tablets you drop them in the water.
- 19:24Speaker 5: We've heard of it.
- 19:24Speaker 3: Okay, just wait you're both looking at me.
- 19:28Speaker 5: Like, because I've never heard of alka seltzer as a
- 19:31Speaker 5: hangover cure.
- 19:32Speaker 3: From a different part of the world.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Dude, that's what we do about.
- 19:35Speaker 5: But when you say when you say like sleep though,
- 19:38Speaker 5: like do you mean like if you drink all night Friday,
- 19:40Speaker 5: Saturday's done? Like you're just in bed all day?
- 19:42Speaker 3: No, like say you go to sleep at midnight, Like
- 19:44Speaker 3: if you can sleep till seven or eight? Money am, Yeah,
- 19:48Speaker 3: Like if you can get seven or eight hours of sleep,
- 19:50Speaker 3: but if you if I'm running on like four hours
- 19:53Speaker 3: of sleep, it's gonna be a rough one.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Why do you think And I had to look it
- 19:57Speaker 1: up because I don't know. I've never looked at the
- 20:00Speaker 1: because I've never needed the science. Why do you think
- 20:03Speaker 1: people get hangovers dehydration? Okay, that's that's both of you.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Guys went with that.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Heart because alcohol just sucks all that water out of you,
- 20:11Speaker 5: like yep, dries you up.
- 20:13Speaker 1: So that is a part of it, but not the
- 20:16Speaker 1: biggest part.
- 20:17Speaker 5: My mom always said potassium.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Now I'm not the expert. I literally looked this up,
- 20:21Speaker 1: so I'm not going I can't believe you guys don't know.
- 20:23Speaker 1: I didn't know, like seriously.
- 20:25Speaker 5: My mom would be like here, Miko, hear him banana.
- 20:27Speaker 5: You need potassium because you have a hangover.
- 20:29Speaker 1: So here is the answer from chat GPT. People get
- 20:32Speaker 1: hangovers because alcohol messes with your body and brain in
- 20:35Speaker 1: a bunch of ways at once. Here's a breakdown of
- 20:37Speaker 1: why you feel so awful. Sleep disruption. Even if you
- 20:40Speaker 1: pass out, alcohol messes up your sleep quality. You skip
- 20:44Speaker 1: ram sleep, and that leads to brain fog, fatigue, and moodiness.
- 20:47Speaker 1: So that's that's part of it. And what you're going
- 20:49Speaker 1: to see is it's a collection of things. It's a
- 20:50Speaker 1: big stew. Okay, no, well, yes, you use a stewdent
- 20:54Speaker 1: fi a stew. I guess Ricky Martin. Next up, toxic byproducts.
- 20:58Speaker 1: As your liver breaks on allcohola produces a chemical called
- 21:02Speaker 1: m ace tall to hyde, which is even more toxic
- 21:07Speaker 1: than the alcohol itself. Your body eventually clears it, but
- 21:10Speaker 1: not before it makes you nauseous, sweat, and feel very bad. Next, dehydration.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Alcohol is diuretic, which means it makes you pee more.
- 21:19Speaker 1: You lose fluids and electrolytes, which leads to symptoms like
- 21:22Speaker 1: dry mouth, headache, and dizziness. Your blood sugar drops. Alcohol
- 21:27Speaker 1: messes with your glucose levels. The crash and blood sugar
- 21:30Speaker 1: can make you weak, shaky, and angry. Two more, stomach irritation.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Alcohol increases stomach acid and irritates the lining of your stomach,
- 21:39Speaker 1: which adds to nausea, vomiting, stomach pain. That's where the
- 21:45Speaker 1: vomiting comes in. And finally, just general inflammation. Alcohol triggers
- 21:49Speaker 1: an immune response that can make you feel achy, unfocused,
- 21:51Speaker 1: and just generally sick. A hangover as your body's way
- 21:55Speaker 1: of saying, you poison me a little bit and now
- 21:57Speaker 1: you're going to pay. But it's because of a whole
- 21:59Speaker 1: lot of different things happening body, not one single factor.
- 22:02Speaker 5: So no potassium level, like mom says, I'm sure.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Not having the appropriate amount of potassium isn't able to
- 22:08Speaker 1: fight the toxic biput.
- 22:09Speaker 5: It's not in your list over there.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I didn't make the list, I'm honest. But yes, so
- 22:15Speaker 1: there's a little education, dude.
- 22:16Speaker 5: What's crazy? When you were reading that list, what stood
- 22:18Speaker 5: out was the like the time, the multiple times that
- 22:22Speaker 5: you go pee Like it's crazy. How as soon as
- 22:26Speaker 5: you start drinking you gotta pee, Like there's like you
- 22:29Speaker 5: break that seal right, like you have twenty gallons of
- 22:31Speaker 5: water in you.
- 22:32Speaker 3: If you know you're gonna be in a crowd or
- 22:33Speaker 3: somewhere tough to get out to go to the bathroom,
- 22:35Speaker 3: you don't pound beers.
- 22:37Speaker 5: And if you're not drinking and you have to pee,
- 22:39Speaker 5: you can hold it. Not a big deal. When you're
- 22:41Speaker 5: drinking and you have to pee, you cannot hold it.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Sometimes you just go.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Well, they do say again that Korean pair juice before
- 22:47Speaker 1: drinking alcohol. And if you're the guys like pull over
- 22:49Speaker 1: and you get some Korean pair juice, we get some,
- 22:52Speaker 1: you're probably gonna get made fun of. I'm gonna put
- 22:54Speaker 1: that out there.
- 22:55Speaker 5: Where do you get a Korean pe?
- 22:57Speaker 1: Korea? Obviously? Okay, I've mentioned this a couple of times
- 23:01Speaker 1: in different places. But we've been watching a show called
- 23:03Speaker 1: The Kingdom. Anybody watching it on Netflix? It is a
- 23:08Speaker 1: South Korean zombie show. It's good. It starts off a
- 23:13Speaker 1: little slow, but we put English subtitles and we make
- 23:18Speaker 1: them speak English. But what's crazy is they actually speak
- 23:22Speaker 1: with really thick Korean accents, so they're speaking English. But there,
- 23:28Speaker 1: I would do an impression, but I don't want to
- 23:30Speaker 1: get I don't even feel like that's racist because I'm
- 23:34Speaker 1: just literally doing an impression. It's risk it's not risky,
- 23:36Speaker 1: and I'm pro human. I'm pro Korean South anyway, and so,
- 23:42Speaker 1: but they do Korean accents and I thought to myself, well,
- 23:45Speaker 1: that's weird. They're doing really south. And then I thought
- 23:47Speaker 1: to myself, well, I've heard some guy with a Southern
- 23:49Speaker 1: accent overdubbing your Korean. Yeah, Marge, watch out for that.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I might think that would be weird. It's good. Episode
- 23:58Speaker 1: one's a little slow, but by the time it's only
- 24:00Speaker 1: six episodes for two seasons. By the time you get
- 24:02Speaker 1: like three in, it's awesome. If you like zombie shows,
- 24:06Speaker 1: I think you'll really like it. If you're into like
- 24:08Speaker 1: swords and stuff. Yeah, what was a Tom Cruise movie
- 24:11Speaker 1: he did Mike where he was like sword fun Last Samurai?
- 24:13Speaker 1: H Yeah, I like you like that kind of fighting
- 24:15Speaker 1: and stuff, you'll like it.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Was that a good movie? Last Summa?
- 24:17Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't watch it. Pretty good movie,
- 24:20Speaker 1: it was, yeah, yeah, No, I don't know, okay, but
- 24:23Speaker 1: it's good. Kevin wants to admit he was wrong about
- 24:27Speaker 1: the Red Sox.
- 24:28Speaker 5: Love it.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I do.
- 24:29Speaker 3: It's take me a while to get here. I still
- 24:30Speaker 3: have not watched one single game since they traded Devers.
- 24:33Speaker 1: You're not though, no games.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I have not watched or will you?
- 24:36Speaker 1: You said no games for you?
- 24:38Speaker 3: So I was wrong. I was obviously wrong. They've won
- 24:42Speaker 3: ten in a row going into the All Star Break,
- 24:44Speaker 3: and ever.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Since Trump was there, they haven't lost. I know, Boston
- 24:47Speaker 1: Trump socks.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Exactly, exactly, and I've had the biggest fomo, like watching
- 24:53Speaker 3: little highlights, walk off home runs, team going crazy, everyone
- 24:56Speaker 3: having fun, the crowd's into it. My brother's texting me.
- 24:59Speaker 3: I'm like, leave me alone. And I have to say
- 25:02Speaker 3: I think I was wrong that they made the right
- 25:05Speaker 3: move trading Devers. Obviously, the clubhouse and the entire locker
- 25:08Speaker 3: room is a better place. Players are playing better, the
- 25:10Speaker 3: team's playing better, and all of a sudden, now they're
- 25:14Speaker 3: in the playoffs. If it started today, that's freaking awesome.
- 25:18Speaker 3: So if I met him wrong, can I go back
- 25:20Speaker 3: to watch you you can?
- 25:20Speaker 1: You can do it?
- 25:21Speaker 5: Yeah, dude, it's your life.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, thanks, guys. You don't know us anything. Yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 1: I know.
- 25:26Speaker 3: I'm just sitting there, you know, I'm like, I want
- 25:28Speaker 3: you to do it.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I'm pro human. I want you to do that perfect? Thanks, guys.
- 25:31Speaker 5: An't that amazing though? That like a team really they
- 25:34Speaker 5: know what's right for them instead of the fans that
- 25:37Speaker 5: don't know anything about what's going on inside.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Says a cowboy, says a cowboys. Yeah, complains about everything. Yeah,
- 25:44Speaker 1: you do it like and you know what they should do.
- 25:46Speaker 1: You know how they should do it. Why didn't they
- 25:48Speaker 1: do this?
- 25:48Speaker 5: Have you seen Dak? He looks ripped and ready to go? Dude,
- 25:51Speaker 5: he should be. He looks good, healthy, healthy, He says,
- 25:55Speaker 5: he's ready to go. And I mean, I don't know
- 25:57Speaker 5: if he's just working out. He looks good. I don't
- 25:59Speaker 5: know I can throw the ball, but he looks good.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Are you watching him to the ball?
- 26:03Speaker 5: No, No, there's just a picture he posted. Dang, dude,
- 26:06Speaker 5: he's been in the gym.
- 26:07Speaker 3: What do you mean you don't know how he can
- 26:08Speaker 3: throw the ball.
- 26:09Speaker 5: No, I don't know how he's throwing the ball. Oh okay, okay,
- 26:11Speaker 5: because I'm not seeing those clips.
- 26:12Speaker 3: I think you said, like physically, you don't know how
- 26:14Speaker 3: he can throw a ball.
- 26:16Speaker 1: With all those muscles that jack. You know who else
- 26:21Speaker 1: looked good working out was Ben Simmons. He'd always posted
- 26:24Speaker 1: videos in the lab. Yeah, what do you mean, like
- 26:28Speaker 1: this is the year for Ben Simmons all the other years,
- 26:30Speaker 1: Let's forget about him.
- 26:31Speaker 5: Why are you comparing those two?
- 26:33Speaker 1: Just that the Internet would lead us to believe, based
- 26:35Speaker 1: on the images that we saw that Ben Simmons are
- 26:37Speaker 1: really going to turn it around this year.
- 26:38Speaker 5: Got it?
- 26:39Speaker 1: Didn't quite happen?
- 26:40Speaker 5: Got it?
- 26:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it. I'll come back and talk to Stuart Mandel.
- 26:43Speaker 1: We'll talk college football coming up next. All right, now,
- 26:46Speaker 1: we're going to go over and talk with Stuart Mandel,
- 26:48Speaker 1: who is the editor in chief for The Athletic. Go
- 26:51Speaker 1: to the Athletic dot com do read his articles. Also
- 26:53Speaker 1: does a podcast called The Audible. I really enjoy his writing.
- 26:56Speaker 1: And we're gonna talk about nil and we're going to
- 26:58Speaker 1: all the stuff that you may think is boring, we're
- 27:00Speaker 1: probably going to talk about here because I do not
- 27:02Speaker 1: find it boring at all. You'm a massive college football fan.
- 27:04Speaker 1: So here he is follow him on Twitter at sl Mandel.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Here he is Stuart Mandel. Hey Stuart, big fan of
- 27:10Speaker 1: your work. Really appreciate the time.
- 27:12Speaker 6: Thanks for having me.
- 27:13Speaker 1: I do want to start with this because I saw
- 27:14Speaker 1: you post the article just this morning, and it was
- 27:18Speaker 1: basically about collectives and how NIL now is going to
- 27:22Speaker 1: be coming through the school, except it's not really an
- 27:24Speaker 1: IL what's happening right now because I almost can't keep
- 27:28Speaker 1: up with it.
- 27:28Speaker 6: It's very hard to keep up with.
- 27:29Speaker 8: But you know, the House settlement got approved last month,
- 27:34Speaker 8: and so that allowed the colleges to go through with
- 27:37Speaker 8: this plan they had twofold. They can now share revenue
- 27:41Speaker 8: directly up to twenty point five million dollars the schools
- 27:44Speaker 8: can share with their athletes, but also they've set up
- 27:47Speaker 8: this clearinghouse nil GO that has to approve these outside
- 27:51Speaker 8: deals and collectives have obviously dominated the NIL space for
- 27:57Speaker 8: the last few years. That's where athletes get most, if
- 27:59Speaker 8: not all, of their ANIL income. And the Commission came
- 28:03Speaker 8: out with a statement saying collectives don't serve a valid
- 28:07Speaker 8: business purpose, their deals are not going to get approved.
- 28:11Speaker 8: They were already prepared, the collectives are already prepared to
- 28:14Speaker 8: have their deals more closely scrutinized for fair market value,
- 28:18Speaker 8: but this was kind of a step or two beyond that.
- 28:21Speaker 8: They're saying it doesn't matter what the compensation is or
- 28:25Speaker 8: even if it's for valid activities, autographs, and they pay
- 28:29Speaker 8: the athletes to do autograph signings or go period a
- 28:32Speaker 8: golf tournament or whatnot.
- 28:34Speaker 6: They don't care.
- 28:35Speaker 8: They think collectives are just a front for pay for
- 28:37Speaker 8: play and they're not going to approve the deals.
- 28:39Speaker 1: But aren't they? And I say that as someone who
- 28:41Speaker 1: was a part of one, and so I've been involved
- 28:44Speaker 1: as someone who donated and worked with a collective and
- 28:47Speaker 1: now I do an as all money and deals with
- 28:50Speaker 1: athletes to actually do things because I know the new
- 28:52Speaker 1: rule is up to like six hundred bucks, etc. Have
- 28:54Speaker 1: to be reported up to six hundred bucks. But really,
- 28:56Speaker 1: weren't collectives exactly what you're saying they are?
- 28:59Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that's one of those things where it's
- 29:01Speaker 8: it's not even a secret at this point, right, everybody
- 29:04Speaker 8: knows that's the intention. And that's why this commission is
- 29:07Speaker 8: coming down and saying, you know, these are not valid
- 29:10Speaker 8: business Basically, they're saying it's not a valid business attempt
- 29:14Speaker 8: if you're paying an athlete to promote your product so
- 29:19Speaker 8: that the collective can make money to then give to
- 29:21Speaker 8: the next wave of athletes. Right, it's not they don't
- 29:23Speaker 8: think that's legitimately for for goods and services for a
- 29:28Speaker 8: for profit company.
- 29:30Speaker 6: But that doesn't mean it's it's gonna fly. The lawyers
- 29:33Speaker 6: for the.
- 29:34Speaker 8: Playoffs in the House settlement as soon as that memo
- 29:36Speaker 8: went out wrote back and said, this is not part
- 29:38Speaker 8: of the settlement. You don't get to decide who is
- 29:40Speaker 8: or isn't a valid business, and if you don't retract that,
- 29:44Speaker 8: we're going to take it back to the judge. So
- 29:46Speaker 8: we're waiting to see if anything comes of that.
- 29:49Speaker 1: I guess my final question on this, and I am
- 29:51Speaker 1: very interested in it, is that don't you think eventually
- 29:54Speaker 1: this just ends with this collective bargaining agreement with the
- 29:58Speaker 1: players and the GM and the athletic directors, almost like
- 30:02Speaker 1: we see in pro sports, but not quite.
- 30:05Speaker 8: Yeah, I mean, I think that's what you hear a
- 30:07Speaker 8: lot in regards to this salary cap. Right Like in
- 30:10Speaker 8: the athletic directors and commissioners' eyes, this is a pro
- 30:13Speaker 8: sports model now, where there's a hard cap and you
- 30:16Speaker 8: can't go beyond it. But the people on the other
- 30:19Speaker 8: side that would say the differences in the NBA and
- 30:21Speaker 8: the NFL, they collectively bargained that cap, the athletes agreed
- 30:25Speaker 8: to that cap. This was negotiated through a lawsuit settlement
- 30:28Speaker 8: that I'm guessing most of the athletes that weren't even
- 30:31Speaker 8: aware of, right So, I do think some form of
- 30:34Speaker 8: collective bargaining is coming at some point, whether that comes
- 30:36Speaker 8: through the courts, Congress, whatever that may be. But right
- 30:41Speaker 8: now we're kind of in that limbo state, I think,
- 30:43Speaker 8: where they're trying to kind of get away with both.
- 30:45Speaker 8: There's a salary cap, but there's no union, there's no
- 30:48Speaker 8: collective bargaining.
- 30:50Speaker 1: So let's just pivot over to college football specifically, where
- 30:53Speaker 1: does Nick Saban coach now?
- 30:56Speaker 8: I mean, obviously that was the big hot story this
- 30:58Speaker 8: week at SEC media Days. I wouldn't necessarily assume that
- 31:01Speaker 8: that's going to be the case. I mean, he's going
- 31:04Speaker 8: to be seventy four by the time this next coaching
- 31:06Speaker 8: carousel comes up, and you know, he's not a fan
- 31:09Speaker 8: of nil and transfer portal and whatnot. So does he
- 31:12Speaker 8: really want to get back in and deal with that?
- 31:13Speaker 8: But certainly if he decides he is, and look, he's
- 31:16Speaker 8: his guy's Bill Belichick, who's who's.
- 31:18Speaker 6: Basically doing the same move right now.
- 31:20Speaker 8: Anybody with a coaching opening would be would obviously want him.
- 31:24Speaker 8: And so when you look at the schools that might
- 31:26Speaker 8: have a coaching opening this coming year. The one that
- 31:29Speaker 8: really stands out to me's Oklahoma if Brent Vnables doesn't
- 31:31Speaker 8: have a big year, because that kind of meets all
- 31:34Speaker 8: the Nick Saban checklist. It's a powerhouse program that you
- 31:37Speaker 8: can win national championships at, it's a huge, rabid fan base,
- 31:42Speaker 8: and you're in a state where you're really the only
- 31:44Speaker 8: recruiting power. Right Oklahoma State sometimes gets recruits they want,
- 31:48Speaker 8: but not very often.
- 31:50Speaker 1: The rumor was for a while that Nick Saban was
- 31:52Speaker 1: going to run whatever body was over the nil or
- 31:56Speaker 1: the portal. He was going to be like the King Dingleyam.
- 31:57Speaker 1: College football has that kind of passed by.
- 31:59Speaker 8: Now, you know, it's interesting that was never possible obviously
- 32:02Speaker 8: in the traditional model, but they've set up now. They
- 32:05Speaker 8: actually have this thing called the College Sports Commission, which
- 32:08Speaker 8: would seem to be right for a commissioner, but right
- 32:11Speaker 8: now they hired an executive from Major League Baseball to
- 32:14Speaker 8: oversee that. And look, Nick Saban's got a pretty cushy gig.
- 32:17Speaker 8: Now right you're on game day.
- 32:19Speaker 6: You get to.
- 32:19Speaker 8: Still be part of college football, travel to games without
- 32:22Speaker 8: the headaches of having to deal with the actual issues
- 32:24Speaker 8: in college sports.
- 32:26Speaker 1: If we talk about the college football playoffs and we
- 32:29Speaker 1: look at last year, Boise State gets a buy and
- 32:32Speaker 1: based on the system, that's exactly how it should have been.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Did you like how it was? Or are you for
- 32:38Speaker 1: a we're going to rank them as they are and
- 32:41Speaker 1: let them fall in as they are.
- 32:43Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I think that's where we're headed. I
- 32:44Speaker 6: think that that's already been changed.
- 32:48Speaker 8: The whole thing about the CFP is that it was
- 32:50Speaker 8: devised before the Pac twelve fell apart. So the idea
- 32:53Speaker 8: that the four highest ranked conference champs would get the buys.
- 32:57Speaker 8: You figured those are going to be pretty highly ranked
- 32:59Speaker 8: teams because you'd be doing the four out of the
- 33:01Speaker 8: five power conferences. But now that's no longer the case,
- 33:05Speaker 8: and so last year it just so happened that bois
- 33:07Speaker 8: ended up finishing ahead of you know, the ACC champ, Clemson,
- 33:13Speaker 8: which kind of got in at the last second. So
- 33:16Speaker 8: they've already changed that. This year it'll be the top
- 33:18Speaker 8: four seeds regardless of conference, and I think you can
- 33:20Speaker 8: assume those will probably be teams from the Big ten
- 33:24Speaker 8: at SEC.
- 33:25Speaker 1: You think the Pac twelve will ever be a thing again?
- 33:27Speaker 1: They are adding new teams, which all Texas State just
- 33:29Speaker 1: went in. But do you think that'll be a We'll
- 33:31Speaker 1: go back to Power five.
- 33:33Speaker 6: That'd be nice.
- 33:33Speaker 8: But you know that if you look at the lineup
- 33:36Speaker 8: they have coming forward, right, you have Oregon State and
- 33:38Speaker 8: Washington State and then you have a bunch of Mountain
- 33:40Speaker 8: West schools, and so they're probably closer to the AAC.
- 33:46Speaker 8: In fact, they are closer to the AAC than the
- 33:49Speaker 8: Power conferences. My hope is that one day saner Heads
- 33:52Speaker 8: will prevail, even if it's not in football. Right, football
- 33:56Speaker 8: doesn't involve that much travel. But I think the shame
- 33:59Speaker 8: of this what happened is these West Coast schools are
- 34:02Speaker 8: sending their basketball teams, their volleyball teams there, you name it,
- 34:05Speaker 8: teams all the way across the country to play matches,
- 34:09Speaker 8: and those aren't the things that are making the money.
- 34:11Speaker 8: I'm hoping saner Heads will prevail at some point and
- 34:14Speaker 8: you can separate West Coast football from West Coast to
- 34:18Speaker 8: all the other sports and get Stanford and Cal and
- 34:21Speaker 8: USC and UCLA and the Arizona schools and the Oregon
- 34:24Speaker 8: Washington playing each other again like they should.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Well, it's not unprecedented to have a school play football
- 34:29Speaker 1: without a conference like a Notre Dame and then play
- 34:31Speaker 1: basketball in a conference. I mean eventually, probably just logistically,
- 34:35Speaker 1: that would be where it falls. Are they doing anything
- 34:37Speaker 1: to actually make that happen yet or are we just
- 34:39Speaker 1: talking about it?
- 34:42Speaker 8: It's not anything imminent because these TV contracts that the
- 34:46Speaker 8: conferences have are all in place for many years at
- 34:49Speaker 8: this point, I mean, including the accs, goes well into
- 34:52Speaker 8: the twenty thirties, So it seems like the lineups you
- 34:55Speaker 8: have now will be the lineups for the next at
- 34:57Speaker 8: least five to six years. But I think there'll be
- 35:01Speaker 8: another big shakeup the Big Ten contract comes up, I
- 35:05Speaker 8: think in five years. Around that time, a couple of
- 35:08Speaker 8: the others do as well. So if you're looking at
- 35:10Speaker 8: a next big change to the structure of conferences, you
- 35:14Speaker 8: would look to that.
- 35:16Speaker 1: You think Notre Dame joins a conference in football at all?
- 35:20Speaker 8: They really have no reason to. The system is set
- 35:22Speaker 8: up well for them. Now we'll see what happens with
- 35:26Speaker 8: this expanded playoff that they're already talking about. If the
- 35:30Speaker 8: Big Ten has their way, most of those berths would
- 35:33Speaker 8: become automatic berths for the conferences and then if you're
- 35:36Speaker 8: Notre Dame, you have to look hard at that. But
- 35:38Speaker 8: as long as you have the current system where there's
- 35:40Speaker 8: a lot of at large berths and now by the way,
- 35:42Speaker 8: they can host I mean sorry, they can get a bye, right.
- 35:45Speaker 8: They couldn't get it before when those were conference champs.
- 35:48Speaker 8: There's really nothing they would gain necessarily from joining a conference.
- 35:52Speaker 1: If you were able to make rules regarding the transfer portal,
- 35:57Speaker 1: what rules would you implement.
- 35:59Speaker 8: I actually, I think the NCAA had a really good
- 36:01Speaker 8: rule as of a few years ago, which is everybody
- 36:03Speaker 8: gets one exception where they can transfer and play right away.
- 36:08Speaker 8: If you want to transfer again after that, you have
- 36:10Speaker 8: to sit out a Here. The problem is, and this
- 36:12Speaker 8: is the case right with a lot of nca rules
- 36:14Speaker 8: now somebody sued in a court struck it down. Now
- 36:18Speaker 8: even unlimited transfers, which I don't think are good for anybody.
- 36:21Speaker 8: I don't fault a player for wanting to start over
- 36:24Speaker 8: at a new opportunity.
- 36:26Speaker 6: That's their decision, that's their life.
- 36:27Speaker 8: But the idea that every player in the country is
- 36:30Speaker 8: a free agent every single season and doesn't there's nothing,
- 36:35Speaker 8: you know, really to discourage them from doing so, is bad.
- 36:38Speaker 6: For the schools. It's bad.
- 36:40Speaker 8: I think for the athletes who it's really hard to
- 36:44Speaker 8: develop in your career if you're playing for a new
- 36:46Speaker 8: coach and a new system every single year.
- 36:48Speaker 1: You mentioned Bret Ventables at Oklahoma. You didn't say the
- 36:51Speaker 1: words hot seat, but they're looking for them to succeed.
- 36:53Speaker 1: I have family, they're massive Oklahoma fans, so I'm close
- 36:56Speaker 1: to that situation a bit. Who else are these high
- 36:58Speaker 1: profile coaches that need to win and now, you.
- 37:01Speaker 8: Know, I think there's several in the SEC. Start with
- 37:03Speaker 8: hu Freeze. Auburn fans are notoriously not patient, and he's
- 37:08Speaker 8: had a rough couple of years, and some people think
- 37:11Speaker 8: they'll be a lot better this year. Some people see
- 37:13Speaker 8: it and go, you know, the quarterback that they got,
- 37:15Speaker 8: is he really that much better than the guy they
- 37:17Speaker 8: had before?
- 37:17Speaker 6: So him, you.
- 37:19Speaker 8: Know, billiy Napier won some people back at the end
- 37:21Speaker 8: of last year at Florida. But if they were to
- 37:23Speaker 8: start out bad again this year like they did last year,
- 37:26Speaker 8: you would I think you would start to hear that again.
- 37:28Speaker 8: And then you've got coaches who theoretically would be on
- 37:32Speaker 8: the hot seat, except they have these enormous buyouts Brian Kelly,
- 37:35Speaker 8: Lincoln Riley in particular, coaches that if they don't perform
- 37:39Speaker 8: this well, perform well this year, the fans aren't.
- 37:42Speaker 6: Going to want him back.
- 37:43Speaker 8: But is the school willing to pay fifty sixty even
- 37:47Speaker 8: seventy something million dollars to buy them out?
- 37:51Speaker 1: That's something a collective could do, right, Just buy out coaches.
- 37:55Speaker 6: Use the money on them instead.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I would say, Like, if you're so
- 37:58Speaker 1: passionate about you buy all the coaches.
- 38:00Speaker 8: A and M set the precedent right right. Oil was
- 38:02Speaker 8: great at the time. They were able to pay seventy
- 38:05Speaker 8: five million to buy out Jimbo Fisher. I mean, the
- 38:07Speaker 8: crazy thing is that they agreed to these contracts in
- 38:10Speaker 8: the first place. When UFC hired Lincoln Riley, they gave
- 38:12Speaker 8: him a ten year contract and it's never been fully
- 38:16Speaker 8: made public it's private school, but believed to be eleven
- 38:18Speaker 8: million dollars a year fully guaranteed. There was absolutely no
- 38:23Speaker 8: way to get out of this if he didn't do well.
- 38:26Speaker 8: I think they just assumed he would because he'd done
- 38:28Speaker 8: so well at Oklahoma and now they might be stuck
- 38:31Speaker 8: with him.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Do you think a bit because we saw this with
- 38:34Speaker 1: Deshaun Watson in Cleveland where they gave him all that money,
- 38:36Speaker 1: guaranteed money, and that really changed where owners now are going,
- 38:39Speaker 1: we're not doing that because we just saw one really
- 38:41Speaker 1: bad example of it, because he gets hurt, he has
- 38:43Speaker 1: all the trouble, he seems like a bad dude. So
- 38:46Speaker 1: they're not doing that at all. And now there's the
- 38:48Speaker 1: drama like where they conspiring behind the scenes to not
- 38:50Speaker 1: give anybody guaranteed contracts. Do you feel like these college coaches,
- 38:55Speaker 1: what's happened to Texas A and M, what's happening now
- 38:57Speaker 1: at USC where they really can't get out of it.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Do you think these situations not being positive will affect
- 39:03Speaker 1: future contracts with coaches?
- 39:06Speaker 8: Well, on the one hand, you know, all these schools
- 39:09Speaker 8: are facing a challenge. There's an extra twenty point five
- 39:11Speaker 8: million dollar budget item now to pay the players. You
- 39:15Speaker 8: got to cut back somewhere, so it would make sense. Okay,
- 39:18Speaker 8: we're gonna stop throwing money at these coaches. And yet
- 39:23Speaker 8: as soon as a school you know, has a coach
- 39:25Speaker 8: they really want to get, they go and do they
- 39:26Speaker 8: do it anyway? I mean, bread Venables is a good example.
- 39:29Speaker 8: They gave him a big extension after his second season
- 39:33Speaker 8: when he really hadn't done much yet, and so he
- 39:35Speaker 8: went and had a bad third season. I still think
- 39:38Speaker 8: if it came to it, they would cut him loose
- 39:41Speaker 8: this year. But these schools that give It's one thing
- 39:44Speaker 8: if you're trying to steal a coach away from another
- 39:46Speaker 8: school and you have to make it worth his while.
- 39:48Speaker 8: But what we see time and again is schools just
- 39:52Speaker 8: going ahead and giving him a big race.
- 39:53Speaker 6: Mike Norvell.
- 39:54Speaker 8: After that great season two years ago, Floria State got
- 39:57Speaker 8: a new contract ten million dollars a year.
- 40:00Speaker 6: They go out and they go two and ten. Last year.
- 40:03Speaker 6: They regret that big contract.
- 40:04Speaker 4: Now.
- 40:05Speaker 8: So to your question, I mean, we'll see. We've yet
- 40:10Speaker 8: to see that trend change yet. Maybe it does now
- 40:13Speaker 8: because of the new variable with the revenue sharing.
- 40:18Speaker 1: What do you think the expectation is for Bill Belichick?
- 40:20Speaker 8: Yeah, that's a great question. Is the expectation different now
- 40:25Speaker 8: than it was when he was hired? Because when he
- 40:26Speaker 8: was hired, certainly a lot of proponents of the hire think, hey,
- 40:31Speaker 8: he's going to come in, he's going to flash his
- 40:32Speaker 8: Super Bowl rings.
- 40:33Speaker 6: Recruits are going to come running. They'll be very good.
- 40:36Speaker 8: The way the offseason has gone the Jordan Hudson storyline.
- 40:39Speaker 8: I think of people A lot of people now are thinking,
- 40:41Speaker 8: was this really good idea? I think if they just
- 40:44Speaker 8: go to a Bowl game the first year and people
- 40:46Speaker 8: realize it takes a little time to turn around a program,
- 40:49Speaker 8: So the first year you kind of get some you
- 40:51Speaker 8: get a free pass, unless you go three and nine
- 40:53Speaker 8: and then everybody's going to say, what a disaster this is.
- 40:55Speaker 1: You feel a little bit though, like people will have
- 40:57Speaker 1: less patience because you can turn a programmer on so fast,
- 41:00Speaker 1: because you can't actually just write checks.
- 41:02Speaker 8: Well, I think you know, when I started covering the sport,
- 41:06Speaker 8: it was you need four years to turn it around.
- 41:08Speaker 8: Then it became three, and then it became two. I
- 41:11Speaker 8: don't think we're seeing the pressure yet to do it.
- 41:14Speaker 8: And I mean Deon Sanders is a great example. Right
- 41:16Speaker 8: first year was not great. People are saying, you know,
- 41:20Speaker 8: this is a disaster. Then they had a really good
- 41:22Speaker 8: season last year. But I do think that's the limit.
- 41:25Speaker 8: Nobody wants two bad seasons in a row now because
- 41:27Speaker 8: of exactly what you said.
- 41:28Speaker 1: You can.
- 41:30Speaker 8: You can turn over your whole roster now through the portal,
- 41:33Speaker 8: and so you don't need three or four high school
- 41:36Speaker 8: classes to come in. You can turn it around really quickly.
- 41:39Speaker 8: First years are tough.
- 41:40Speaker 6: For many reasons.
- 41:41Speaker 8: You get a late start on recruiting, and it's just
- 41:44Speaker 8: you know, you're completely changing the culture.
- 41:46Speaker 6: Are the players going to buy in?
- 41:48Speaker 5: So? You know?
- 41:49Speaker 8: I think people still are at least reasonable enough to
- 41:52Speaker 8: realize it's going to take more than one year, but
- 41:55Speaker 8: not more than two years.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Final question for you. I was looking through the quarterbacks
- 41:59Speaker 1: and Drew Aller, Penn State or nuss Meyer or DJ
- 42:03Speaker 1: Lagway or Kate Klubnick who looked really good against Texas
- 42:07Speaker 1: until they end up losing that game. Like he went
- 42:08Speaker 1: down to Austin and played really well. Is an Austin
- 42:10Speaker 1: kid too? Like, there are a lot of really good quarterbacks. Who,
- 42:14Speaker 1: in your mind is your favorite for the Heisman? Way
- 42:17Speaker 1: too early?
- 42:18Speaker 8: Obviously everybody's gonna say arch Manning. The problem for arch
- 42:21Speaker 8: Manning is the expectations are so high that I feel
- 42:24Speaker 8: like if he just has a good season but not
- 42:26Speaker 8: an amazing season, people might turn on him. I do
- 42:29Speaker 8: like Kate clubness chances and here's why. I mean, first
- 42:32Speaker 8: of all, he's really good. I think it's snuck up
- 42:34Speaker 8: on people last year toward the end of the season.
- 42:36Speaker 8: How much better he got. Clemson is to me the
- 42:40Speaker 8: class of the ACC. Maybe Miami's close, Probably not. If
- 42:46Speaker 8: they can beat LSU in that first game, he kind
- 42:49Speaker 8: of bolts to the front of the list, and then
- 42:51Speaker 8: I think stays there at least stays in the mix
- 42:54Speaker 8: most of the season. Obviously, Texas is preseason number one,
- 42:58Speaker 8: but again because expectations for arch Manning or so much
- 43:01Speaker 8: higher than they are for Kate club Nick. I mean,
- 43:03Speaker 8: let's say they lose to Ohio State the first week
- 43:04Speaker 8: and everybody can say he's overrated.
- 43:06Speaker 6: It was just his last name, you know.
- 43:08Speaker 8: I think that's what he's That's the biggest hurdle for
- 43:11Speaker 8: him in terms of Heisman contention.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Stuart is the editor in chief for The Athletic and
- 43:14Speaker 1: also check us podcast out with Bruce Feldman called The
- 43:17Speaker 1: Audible wherever you get your podcasts. A big fan of
- 43:19Speaker 1: your work was reading your article this morning. Thank you,
- 43:21Speaker 1: Thank you for taking some time and talking with us.
- 43:23Speaker 1: Really hope you have a great day.
- 43:24Speaker 6: Thanks Stuart, Thanks for having me.
- 43:28Speaker 1: All Right, that's going to wrap it up for us today.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Thank you guys for being here. I will say that.
- 43:32Speaker 1: I went and I got my tooth fixed, and then
- 43:34Speaker 1: I was flossing and it broke off again.
- 43:36Speaker 5: Oh my good lady. Do you get your money back
- 43:38Speaker 5: for that?
- 43:38Speaker 1: No, I'll just get another tooth put on.
- 43:39Speaker 3: How hard do you floss?
- 43:41Speaker 1: That's what my wife said. She's like, what are you doing?
- 43:42Speaker 1: You're going at it in there. I do use floss
- 43:46Speaker 1: or to use the picks both, and I floss probably
- 43:47Speaker 1: like five times a day. So because I do that,
- 43:51Speaker 1: I think I've probably warned my teeth down. Not only that.
- 43:53Speaker 1: When I first started making any sort of money where
- 43:56Speaker 1: I could save, I bought teeth. That was my first thing.
- 44:00Speaker 5: I was like, a hobby.
- 44:01Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 44:01Speaker 5: What are you bude teeth for a hobby?
- 44:04Speaker 1: Likenmillion? You know, like I what's weird is when you
- 44:08Speaker 1: get teeth, they shave all your other teeth down, Like
- 44:11Speaker 1: that's how veneers work. They shave all your real teeth down.
- 44:13Speaker 1: And my teeth were messed up and they shave them
- 44:15Speaker 1: down and then they put the veneers over the top
- 44:17Speaker 1: of them. And so but I did that, and I
- 44:20Speaker 1: remember this is like ten years ago. The dentist was like, hey,
- 44:24Speaker 1: and like ten years you're gonna have to get these replaced,
- 44:27Speaker 1: like these are not forever, they're about they're worth about
- 44:29Speaker 1: ten years. They don't know what to say to people
- 44:30Speaker 1: to get boo jobs like these aren't forever, like you
- 44:32Speaker 1: have to get them fixed. And I remember thinking, well,
- 44:34Speaker 1: ten years will never come. Who cares about ten years?
- 44:37Speaker 1: I just neglected to do it. And so I think
- 44:40Speaker 1: part of it is my NonStop flossing, and part of
- 44:43Speaker 1: it is the teeth are getting a little older, and
- 44:46Speaker 1: some of them I've had replaces, I've cracked them. But
- 44:48Speaker 1: like this is as you can see, it's gone, but
- 44:51Speaker 1: it's really affected my feathers in my so all day long,
- 44:54Speaker 1: I've like struggled because you make sounds. Everybody knows this,
- 44:57Speaker 1: but you don't think about it until it's actually affecting
- 44:59Speaker 1: you where your tongue hits the top of your mouth
- 45:01Speaker 1: and your teeth.
- 45:02Speaker 5: But my sounded great today.
- 45:04Speaker 1: There were times where I was just I could feel it,
- 45:06Speaker 1: and I probably feel a little more. It's like when
- 45:07Speaker 1: you have like a little cut in your mouth or something.
- 45:09Speaker 1: It's the fucking duck.
- 45:11Speaker 5: Atsh who were the who? The team? Baseball team in.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Chicago's offer and thuck of that the coggle cul.
- 45:18Speaker 5: None of the other one.
- 45:19Speaker 1: The other one the Gogga white thun. So my Didnis
- 45:24Speaker 1: went on vacation though I know. I texted him he's awesome,
- 45:28Speaker 1: and I was like, hey, I'm a tooth, sorry about that.
- 45:30Speaker 1: I probably fast a little too early. I think he
- 45:31Speaker 1: actually said don't do it for a day or so.
- 45:33Speaker 1: You know me, I'm just didn't letting it rip there.
- 45:36Speaker 1: So I text him. I was like, hey, it doesn't hurt,
- 45:38Speaker 1: but I dude talks a little funny and so we'll
- 45:41Speaker 1: get a fixed next week. But so if I've sounded
- 45:44Speaker 1: a little weird or a little thing by the way
- 45:48Speaker 1: I said thucker and thuck of thatsh not a bad word. No,
- 45:52Speaker 1: there are people that will highlight sounds. This single sounds
- 45:55Speaker 1: from me doing years and years of shows and podcasts,
- 45:58Speaker 1: and they'll take it. Be like you said the for
- 46:00Speaker 1: it here, you said you don't cuss. First of all,
- 46:01Speaker 1: I don't have a problem with cursing. So even if
- 46:03Speaker 1: I did, I'm okay with it. But I didn't because
- 46:05Speaker 1: I don't.
- 46:06Speaker 5: You really don't.
- 46:07Speaker 1: I don't. I don't, even in the private privacy of
- 46:09Speaker 1: our own home like anything, are doing it. I don't
- 46:10Speaker 1: even in the privacy.
- 46:11Speaker 5: Of our own home together.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Yeah, the dark room, but I don't. I don't not
- 46:16Speaker 1: curse for you. I not curse for me. So if
- 46:19Speaker 1: I do decide to curse, who cares? I'm only not
- 46:21Speaker 1: doing it for me. I think cursing is hilarious if
- 46:23Speaker 1: you use the right way. I just had to stop
- 46:25Speaker 1: cursing seven years or so ago because I didn't want
- 46:28Speaker 1: to write cursing. I wanted to write cursive but not
- 46:31Speaker 1: cursing difference. So, speaking of writing, I wrote a bunch
- 46:34Speaker 1: of jokes. I'm doing the opera tomorrow night. It's just
- 46:38Speaker 1: risky to go into a bunch of jokes and you've
- 46:39Speaker 1: never done them before, all at once, and with the
- 46:44Speaker 1: crowd that isn't there to see you, because when people
- 46:46Speaker 1: go to the opry, they go to the opery to
- 46:48Speaker 1: see whomever shows up. It's not that they're there to
- 46:51Speaker 1: see somebody else specifically. Some of them are, some of
- 46:53Speaker 1: them aren't. Some are just there to see the brand.
- 46:55Speaker 1: And so I walk out on stage and I'm you know,
- 46:57Speaker 1: I have all these new jokes.
- 46:58Speaker 5: Oh no, you're taking some Gillis's jokes.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Yeah, So I have all these jokes like I wrote
- 47:09Speaker 1: a whole part of a set on being like doos
- 47:11Speaker 1: and dollerant.
- 47:12Speaker 5: Okay as relatable.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Yeah, because let me read you. Let me read you
- 47:16Speaker 1: a couple of these things. I don't care. I don't care.
- 47:19Speaker 1: I'm not touring, so I don't care if I even
- 47:20Speaker 1: run a joke. But one of the jokes is if
- 47:26Speaker 1: I really, if I say it exactly as, it's not
- 47:27Speaker 1: gonna play. So I talk about like being allergic to
- 47:31Speaker 1: dairy and being from the South is like being a cowboy.
- 47:35Speaker 1: I talk about it, I'm allergic to dairy, and then
- 47:37Speaker 1: I say, I need like my notes because I haven't
- 47:39Speaker 1: even practiced these and I'm gonna go up there to
- 47:40Speaker 1: do it tomorrow. How I'm lactose and tolerant. Being allergic
- 47:43Speaker 1: to cheese and being from the South, it's like being
- 47:44Speaker 1: a cowboy allergic to his horse. Like yeah, it's that
- 47:48Speaker 1: kind of vibe. And it was like I used to
- 47:50Speaker 1: take great pride in not being allergic to anything. Now
- 47:53Speaker 1: he just slice of pizza. My body shuts down like
- 47:54Speaker 1: it's filing for bankruptcy. So I do I wrote all
- 47:56Speaker 1: these jokes, right. I used to say no allergies like
- 47:59Speaker 1: it was a personality trade. Now I'm the one asking
- 48:01Speaker 1: if there's hidden gee's like it's a lactose ghost haunting
- 48:04Speaker 1: my enchiladas. So it's a lot of that type stuff.
- 48:07Speaker 1: But I never I just can't do a bunch of it.
- 48:09Speaker 1: I can only like pick one my best hope and
- 48:13Speaker 1: then pray it works, because if it doesn't, I got
- 48:15Speaker 1: to pivot out of all of it because I don't
- 48:18Speaker 1: feel as confident in the rest of them, and I
- 48:22Speaker 1: can't go You can't miss two or three in a row.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Do you go in with a backup plan if you
- 48:26Speaker 3: have the pivot.
- 48:27Speaker 1: Or my backup plan is to go to jokes I
- 48:30Speaker 1: know work and so if it doesn't work, because inevitably
- 48:33Speaker 1: when you do new jokes, some of them don't. Some
- 48:35Speaker 1: of them won't work. But it's not because the jokes
- 48:37Speaker 1: are about always. Sometimes it is. Mostly it's because you
- 48:39Speaker 1: didn't like pause at the right time. There's some wreplay,
- 48:41Speaker 1: maybe you stumbled or the crowd. It really is that.
- 48:46Speaker 1: But I did one where I was talking about fantasy
- 48:49Speaker 1: Football's why I bring this up because my wife will
- 48:52Speaker 1: have her friends over and they will plan a night
- 48:54Speaker 1: where they talk with intention, like a purpose, like they
- 48:59Speaker 1: just are going to connec act like she'll have a
- 49:02Speaker 1: friend come over and they'll sit in a living in
- 49:03Speaker 1: for like two hours and talk about, you know, how
- 49:04Speaker 1: you're really doing. But if we do that, that's weird.
- 49:08Speaker 1: And so we have ways to do it. And I've talked
- 49:09Speaker 1: about this on the show, like I can't call up
- 49:10Speaker 1: Eddie be like hey man, Thursday, seven pm, want to
- 49:13Speaker 1: come over and feel some stuff, and then how good
- 49:17Speaker 1: that's a good one. Okay, good, thanks, And I'm like,
- 49:21Speaker 1: so instead we have to like sneak in emotions like
- 49:23Speaker 1: through a side door and we'll be like talking about
- 49:26Speaker 1: fantasy football and'll be like, hey man, I'll trade your
- 49:28Speaker 1: Travis Kelsey for Saquon Barkley. And also, my dad never
- 49:31Speaker 1: told me he was proud.
- 49:32Speaker 9: Of me, so yes, right, it's true, And like I've
- 49:38Speaker 9: talked about that for a long time and even in
- 49:40Speaker 9: that way, but I've never written a joke about it.
- 49:42Speaker 9: But what's tricky about that is I'll be and I
- 49:46Speaker 9: would love to try to the operator because I'm not touring.
- 49:48Speaker 9: But if they don't laugh at that, I think it's
- 49:50Speaker 9: just because it's not a fantasy football group, because that's
- 49:52Speaker 9: a sports thing. If I'm like, I'll trade your Travis
- 49:54Speaker 9: Kelsey and Saquon Barkley also your dad ever hug you.
- 49:56Speaker 3: You know, I think.
- 49:59Speaker 1: If they don't get the kels in Saquon of it, yeah,
- 50:01Speaker 1: they're not gonna even appreciate the joke, and not even
- 50:04Speaker 1: that it's the greatest joke ever written. And the reason
- 50:06Speaker 1: I'm talking about this is the Shane Gilli stuff like
- 50:08Speaker 1: that's like super inspiring to see him go up and
- 50:09Speaker 1: people be mad at him and keep going. But also
- 50:12Speaker 1: I'm playing the operat this week, and so yeah that
- 50:16Speaker 1: I wrote. Any I can't do a whole new set
- 50:19Speaker 1: up there because I won't because I'll go up and
- 50:21Speaker 1: it'll just be a nightmare. I'll be forgetting stuff jokes
- 50:23Speaker 1: will miss. But I'm probably gonna throw in a couple
- 50:25Speaker 1: of new ones like that. You think I should the
- 50:27Speaker 1: fantsy football one or they won't get it.
- 50:28Speaker 5: I like the Fantasy football one.
- 50:30Speaker 3: I think there'll be plenty of guys in there that
- 50:32Speaker 3: I'll understand that.
- 50:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I have a joke that I probably won't do
- 50:36Speaker 1: because I don't think it will be received well. Or
- 50:40Speaker 1: I talk about how lactose intolerance, like I deserve a
- 50:42Speaker 1: handycap sticker. And then I go, you know what, because
- 50:48Speaker 1: I talk about it being covered by the eightya, but
- 50:49Speaker 1: I don't even I think that's too inside it. That's
- 50:52Speaker 1: the America's disabilityetah. I said, Okay, but if I don't
- 50:56Speaker 1: get a handy gap sticker, maybe I should just get
- 50:57Speaker 1: preferred parking at pizza places.
- 50:59Speaker 3: There you go.
- 51:00Speaker 1: You see what I'm saying, and you know the crowd there.
- 51:03Speaker 1: But all of that, all of this stuff, because I
- 51:05Speaker 1: have this, these are all the jokes I've written, right, Wow,
- 51:09Speaker 1: all of that jokes. I would have to go out
- 51:11Speaker 1: for like three months and do all them seventeen times
- 51:14Speaker 1: in order to feel what is exactly right?
- 51:19Speaker 5: What's your time slot?
- 51:20Speaker 2: Like?
- 51:20Speaker 1: Do they tell you everybody has twelve minutes?
- 51:22Speaker 5: Oh?
- 51:22Speaker 1: Like everybody has twelve minutes a long time. But I
- 51:24Speaker 1: do have my guitar as well. And what I've done
- 51:26Speaker 1: in the past is I just take it up there
- 51:28Speaker 1: and I've played the before and never even played it.
- 51:30Speaker 1: Like I walked up with it. That's awesome, and I
- 51:31Speaker 1: just everything was working so right, and I never went
- 51:35Speaker 1: to the guitar because the jokes were just crushing, and
- 51:38Speaker 1: I think people were like, why didn't he have his
- 51:40Speaker 1: guitar on. He never went to it.
- 51:41Speaker 5: I ever sang a song.
- 51:43Speaker 1: It is it is.
- 51:44Speaker 3: You like like you should like strum act.
- 51:46Speaker 1: You're going back to the problem is I'm trying to
- 51:50Speaker 1: remember jokes man, Like I'm doing all that I did
- 51:53Speaker 1: at the very and be like, oh, yeah, I had
- 51:54Speaker 1: this car. I guess I never played and then, but
- 51:58Speaker 1: that wasn't the joke. I had to get tar in
- 52:00Speaker 1: case you should do that with the other interments, like
- 52:02Speaker 1: you just woke out with a tuba. Like I'm just
- 52:07Speaker 1: holding a trombone the whole time and I never even
- 52:09Speaker 1: get to it.
- 52:10Speaker 5: That's pretty funny.
- 52:11Speaker 1: I wanted I'll wrap on this, but I wanted to
- 52:14Speaker 1: do this segment I say want it. I never actually
- 52:17Speaker 1: tried to do it because of the dedication it would take.
- 52:19Speaker 1: And I think I mentioned it in a couple of
- 52:20Speaker 1: interviews with artists where I wanted to go up and
- 52:23Speaker 1: be a part of the band and not have my
- 52:25Speaker 1: instrument plugged in. But like, let's say they gave me
- 52:28Speaker 1: a trump Like I went up with a trombone and
- 52:30Speaker 1: I got in Zach Brown's band. I never said I
- 52:32Speaker 1: was in it. Heck, I can wear a mustache or whatever,
- 52:34Speaker 1: and we just recorded from the crowd, me just faking
- 52:37Speaker 1: the trombone like crazy. Not so much as stealing the show,
- 52:41Speaker 1: not so much, but just just being in the band,
- 52:44Speaker 1: faking it and like feeling it right, just feeling it
- 52:47Speaker 1: even for a song, like I think that would be
- 52:50Speaker 1: so funny.
- 52:52Speaker 5: But you gotta find the right artist to let you
- 52:54Speaker 5: do that.
- 52:54Speaker 1: I have a few friends that would let me do it.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Oh yeah, but I don't want to the money to go.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I'll give you. I don't want to pay the money
- 53:02Speaker 1: to fly and that that three minute bit, it's gonna
- 53:04Speaker 1: cost like eight hundred.
- 53:05Speaker 5: Dollars a day. That's funny though.
- 53:07Speaker 7: Man.
- 53:07Speaker 1: So there was another now I'm just doing this, but
- 53:09Speaker 1: there was another bit to our till Dady I said, hey, man,
- 53:11Speaker 1: we should do we should go and open for an
- 53:13Speaker 1: artist and not say it's us, not with guitars and
- 53:16Speaker 1: like sing acapella, nobody knows it's us. We try so
- 53:19Speaker 1: hard to sing the biggest song, like we go when
- 53:21Speaker 1: we try to eddell songs, we're trying as hard as
- 53:23Speaker 1: we can, never mind, and and they're like, we are
- 53:28Speaker 1: literally trying.
- 53:29Speaker 5: Like trying our best.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Yes, but it'll never be good and it's all Whitney
- 53:32Speaker 1: Houston adele, even with the backing track. But we can
- 53:35Speaker 1: play like karaoke track and we only have like twelve minutes.
- 53:38Speaker 1: But we go out and just try as hard as
- 53:40Speaker 1: we can. We don't shy away from it. We attack
- 53:42Speaker 1: it and then we're like, thank you, get and just
- 53:44Speaker 1: see what we have Cameras on the crowd the whole time.
- 53:47Speaker 3: See this is where you're obsession with making people uncomfortable,
- 53:50Speaker 3: seeing how long it can last.
- 53:51Speaker 1: Yeah, as a comedian, that's why I didn't put that together.
- 53:53Speaker 1: But yes, but that's perfect.
- 53:54Speaker 3: But that's a great way because nobody's ever well I'm
- 53:56Speaker 3: not nobody has ever done that, but something like that
- 53:59Speaker 3: I would shallow.
- 54:02Speaker 1: Yes, And I say it again, we're not trying to
- 54:07Speaker 1: be bad. We're actually trying as good as we can.
- 54:09Speaker 1: But we're also really trying. Because you can hide from it,
- 54:12Speaker 1: sha la la la, and you can be like, oh,
- 54:15Speaker 1: that's a C plus. But if we're like, we gotta
- 54:21Speaker 1: do that, it would be so fun. I just don't
- 54:22Speaker 1: want to pay hundred dollars to get out to some city.
- 54:28Speaker 3: I found a tube on Facebook Marketplace. I'll go get it.
- 54:32Speaker 1: All right. Thank you guys. Now we can hit the
- 54:34Speaker 1: music again. We will see you guys Monday, Monday special guest.
- 54:39Speaker 1: You want to tell.
- 54:40Speaker 3: Him Heisman Hopeful.
- 54:42Speaker 1: Oh that's good. You slowed out one.
- 54:46Speaker 3: You can say it is Diego band quarterback.
- 54:50Speaker 1: He will be in Monday. We just finished the interview
- 54:52Speaker 1: and they brought me a helmet yeah baal, a real
- 54:55Speaker 1: helmet and he signed it.
- 54:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 54:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it was awesome. Uh So that'll be Monday. Up
- 55:00Speaker 1: you guys, have a great weekend. We'll see you guys
