April 18 - Mercy Without Favoritism · Bible Chat Devotional

• 0:02
Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
• 0:06
rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, April 18th.
• 0:11
  Walking in kindness and integrity.
• 0:13
Sometimes kindness looks small in the moment.
• 0:17
A word of respect, A quiet act of generosity.
• 0:20
Choosing not to mock someone who is already hurting.
• 0:23
Refusing to overlook the person everyone else ignores.
• 0:27
But in God's eyes, those moments are never small.
• 0:31
Proverbs chapter 14, verse 21 says whoever despises his
• 0:35
neighbor is a Sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to
• 0:38
the poor. That verse reaches beyond money.
• 0:41
It speaks to posture. How do you see people with
• 0:45
  contempt, indifference, superiority, or compassion?
• 0:49
Psalm 44 shows the honesty of God's people in hard times.
• 0:54
They cry out with confusion and pain, asking where God is in
• 0:57
their suffering. That reminds us that faith does
• 1:00
not always feel polished. Sometimes it is raw and real.
• 1:04
Then Romans chapter 2 reminds us that God judges rightly.
• 1:08
He sees not only what we do, but the heart behind it.
• 1:11
He sees what no one else sees. That means integrity matters
• 1:15
deeply. Who you are when no one is
• 1:18
watching matters. How you treat people who cannot
• 1:21
help you matters. Whether you choose kindness when
• 1:23
it is inconvenient matters. God is shaping your character in
• 1:28
those hidden places. It is easy to be swept up in
• 1:31
  pressure, competition, and self focus.
• 1:35
Life can make you feel like you need to protect your image, push
• 1:38
ahead, and worry mostly about yourself.
• 1:41
But Jesus calls you to another way.
• 1:43
He calls you to live with mercy, honesty, and steady faith.
• 1:47
To be kind in a harsh world is not weakness.
• 1:50
It is evidence of a heart being formed by God.
• 1:53
So today, pay attention to the little moments.
• 1:56
The overlooked person, the chance to help, the choice to
• 2:00
speak gently instead of sharply, the decision to remain honest
• 2:04
even when you could easily cut corners.
• 2:06
Those small acts are building something in you.
• 2:09
They are shaping a life of integrity.
• 2:12
Let your faith show up, not only in worship, but in the way you
• 2:15
  treat people. Let's pray.
• 2:17
Heavenly Father, thank you for caring about both my actions and
• 2:20
my heart. Help me walk in kindness toward
• 2:23
others, especially when it is easy to be selfish or
• 2:27
indifferent. Teach me to live with integrity
• 2:29
in public and in private when life feels hard or unfair.
• 2:34
Help me stay faithful and trust that you see every hidden
• 2:36
choice. Make my life reflect Your
• 2:38
compassion, truth and love in Jesus name, Amen.
• 2:47

Now I invite you to spend time with God in today's three-year
• 3:47
Bible reading plan. Proverbs chapter 14 verse 21
• 3:53
World English Bible He who despises his neighbor sins, but
• 3:57
he who has pity on the poor is blessed.
• 3:59
Psalm Chapter 44 World English Bible for the Chief Musician by
• 4:05
the Sons of Korah. A contemplative Psalm we have
• 4:08
heard with our ears. God, our fathers have told us
• 4:11
what work you did in their days. In the days of old You drove out
• 4:15
the nations with your hand, but you planted them.
• 4:18
You afflicted the peoples, but you spread them abroad.
• 4:22
For they didn't get the land in possession by their own sword.
• 4:25
Neither did their own arms save them but your right hand, your
• 4:29
arm, and the light of your face, because you were favorable to
• 4:31
them. God, you are my king.
• 4:35
Command victories for Jacob. Through you we will push down
• 4:38
our adversaries. Through your name we will tread
• 4:40
down those who rise up against us.
• 4:43
For I will not trust in my bow, neither will my sword save me.
• 4:47
But you have saved us from our adversaries and have shamed
• 4:50
those who hate us. In God, we have made our boast
• 4:53
all day long. We will give thanks to your name
• 4:56
  forever. Selah.
• 4:58
But now you rejected us and brought us to dishonor.
• 5:00
And don't go out with our armies.
• 5:02
You make us turn back from the adversary.
• 5:05
Those who hate us take plunder for themselves.
• 5:08
You have made us like sheep for food, and have scattered us
• 5:11
among the nations. You sell your people for
• 5:14
nothing, and have gained nothing from their sail.
• 5:17
You make us a reproach to our neighbors, a scoffing and a
• 5:20
derision to those who are around us.
• 5:23
You make us a byword among the nations, a shaking of the head
• 5:27
among the peoples. All day long my dishonor is
• 5:30
before me, and shame covers my face at the taunt of one who
• 5:34
reproaches and verbally abuses because of the enemy and the
• 5:38
Avenger. All this has come on us, yet we
• 5:41
haven't forgotten you. We haven't been false to your
• 5:44
covenant. Our heart has not turned back,
• 5:47
neither have our steps strayed from your path, though you have
• 5:50
crushed us in the haunt of jackals and covered us with the
• 5:53
shadow of death. If we have forgotten the name of
• 5:56
our God or spread out our hands to a strange God, won't God
• 6:00
search this out, for he knows the secrets of the heart.
• 6:04
Yes, for your sake, we are killed all day long.
• 6:06
We are regarded as sheep for the slaughter.
• 6:08
Wake up. Why do you sleep?
• 6:10
Lord, arise, Don't reject us forever.
• 6:13
Why do you hide your face and forget our affliction and our
• 6:16
oppression? For our soul is bowed down to
• 6:18
the dust, Our body clings to the earth.
• 6:21
Rise up to help us, redeem us for your loving kindness sake.
• 6:26
Romans Chapter 2 World English Bible Therefore you are without
• 6:30
excuse. Oh man, whoever you are who
• 6:32
judge, for in that which you judge another, you condemn
• 6:36
yourself. For you who judge practice the
• 6:38
same things. We know that the judgement of
• 6:40
God is according to truth against those who practice such
• 6:43
things. Do you think this Oh man who
• 6:46
judges those who practice such things and do the same, that you
• 6:50
will escape the judgement of God?
• 6:53
Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance and
• 6:56
patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to
• 6:59
repentance, But according to your hardness and unrepentant
• 7:03
heart, you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of
• 7:06
wrath revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God, who
• 7:11
will pay back to everyone according to their works.
• 7:14
To those who by perseverance in well doing, seek for glory,
• 7:17
  honor and incorruptibility, eternal life.
• 7:21
But to those who are self seeking and don't obey the
• 7:24
truth, but obey unrighteousness, will be wrath, indignation,
• 7:28
oppression and anguish on every soul of man who does evil to the
• 7:32
Jew 1st and also to the Greek. But glory, honor and peace go to
• 7:38
every man who does good to the Jew 1st and also to the Greek.
• 7:42
For there is no partiality with God.
• 7:45
For as many as have sinned without the law will also perish
• 7:48
without the law. As many as have sinned under the
• 7:51
law will be judged by the law. For it isn't the hearers of the
• 7:55
law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law
• 7:58
will be justified. For when Gentiles who don't have
• 8:01
the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having
• 8:05
the law, are a law to themselves, in that they show
• 8:08
the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience
• 8:11
testifying with them, and their thoughts among themselves,
• 8:15
accusing or else excusing them. In the day when God will judge
• 8:19
the secrets of men according to my good news by Jesus Christ.
• 8:24
Indeed, you bear the name of a Jew, rest on the law, glory in
• 8:27
God, know His will, and approve the things that are excellent.
• 8:31
Being instructed out of the law, and are confident that you
• 8:35
yourself are a guide of the blind, a light to those who are
• 8:38
in darkness, a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of babies,
• 8:43
having in the law the form of knowledge and of the truth.
• 8:46
You therefore who teach another, don't you teach yourself?
• 8:49
You who preach that a man shouldn't steal, do you steal?
• 8:52
You who say a man shouldn't commit adultery, do you commit
• 8:55
adultery? You who abort idols, do you rob
• 8:58
temples? You who glory in the law, do you
• 9:01
dishonor God by disobeying the Law?
• 9:04
For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles
• 9:07
because of you, just as it is written For circumcision.
• 9:11
Indeed, profits if you are a doer of the law, but if you are
• 9:15
a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become
• 9:18
  uncircumcision. If therefore, the uncircumcised
• 9:21
keep the ordinances of the law, won't his uncircumcision be
• 9:25
accounted as circumcision? Won't those who are physically
• 9:29
uncircumcised but fulfill the law judge you who with the
• 9:33
letter and circumcision are a transgressor of the law?
• 9:37
For he is not a Jew who is 1 outwardly, Neither is that
• 9:40
circumcision which is outward in the flesh.
• 9:43
But he is a Jew who is 1 inwardly.
• 9:45
And circumcision is that of the heart in the Spirit, not in the
• 9:49
letter, whose praise is not from men, but from God.
