Transcript
- 0:23I used to have this therapist that talked about gifts in a
- 0:26ditch, and she said there's some things in life that are really
- 0:31good, right? But they come with a ditch, they
- 0:36come with a slippery slope that takes that something from being
- 0:39good to being a problem that you can't even see as a problem.
- 0:45And sometimes when we understand our identity in Christ and we
- 0:55hear the things he says that we are, it can be easy to take that
- 1:00gift and slide into a ditch because we we live in a culture
- 1:05that really values productivity. What are you producing?
- 1:16How is what you are and what you have and what you know, creating
- 1:20something other people can consume.
- 1:25And I had found myself running into this performance
- 1:30relationship with the Lord on a level that I couldn't really see
- 1:36my deepest identity of few months ago would have been I am
- 1:42the daughter of the King. If somebody were to ask me and
- 1:45whoever asked this question, but you know, if somebody were to
- 1:47ask me, who are you, my truest honest to God answer would have
- 1:52been I'm the daughter of the King of glory.
- 1:55And I didn't really realize that with that identity for me came a
- 2:00performance to always know, to always do, to always have
- 2:07something to show other people that they would value and and to
- 2:15use the authority in him to make the changes I felt I needed.
- 2:22And I always had this kind of deep feeling of pressure, like I
- 2:28have to show that I'm the daughter of the King of glory.
- 2:32And I and as I went through a season of breaking, he changed
- 2:37my identity. And now I would say my truest
- 2:41identity is I'm the object of his love.
- 2:46And it doesn't matter if he's using me in great ways or I'm in
- 2:52the valley of the shadow of death with the Lord and, and
- 2:54nothing makes sense and everything is horrible.
- 2:58I'm still the object of his love and the circumstances in life
- 3:04are really only to my benefit, whether they feel like it or
- 3:07not. And the Lord said to me one
- 3:10time, and I was mad when he said it now.
- 3:12So don't think that the truth doesn't first make you mad
- 3:16'cause it often does. He said, Carly, just be the
- 3:20broom. And I was like, Lord, but you
- 3:28said that this is my inheritance and that's what I'm supposed to
- 3:31do. And I don't know how to do any
- 3:33of those things. I don't know how to make any of
- 3:35that real in this realm. I don't know how to.
- 3:38You said you sent me to nations, to prophecy, but what nations?
- 3:41Listen to me over here in the corner of cold, frozen
- 3:44Minnesota. How is that like?
- 3:47I understand and I believe you, Jesus, but I don't see how that
- 3:51has feet on the ground. It's all just this pie in the
- 3:56sky thing. And his answer to me was be the
- 3:58broom. And I remember wrestling with my
- 4:04husband about this because he got the revelation and I didn't.
- 4:08I was mad about it. And he was like, look, you have
- 4:11to just rest. You have to surrender.
- 4:13You have to lay down all the things you think you need to be
- 4:16doing from moment to moment and just be.
- 4:19Just be in surrender, be in Sabbath, be in rest with the
- 4:22Lord. And I was like, fine, I'll just
- 4:24be the broom. And I was mad about it.
- 4:31But after my my pride took a back seat and I leaned into that
- 4:39surrender of being the broom, I realized how how much richness
- 4:47there is in being willing to be something that it doesn't have
- 4:53any glory of its own. The broom doesn't have any glory
- 4:56of its own. Nobody's like comes in someone
- 4:58else's house and goes, wow, that is a nice broom.
- 5:02Like the broom is in the closet until you have to sweep
- 5:05something up. But when you have to sweep
- 5:06something up, you don't want nothing but that broom.
- 5:11But that's how the Lord teaches us humility.
- 5:14That's how our identity ends up having feet.
- 5:17It's always the foolish things to confound the wise.
- 5:20It's always the dark places in life where you find His
- 5:24goodness. It's always that brokenness in
- 5:26which you find His richness. And it's always in being that
- 5:30honorless vessel where you find the most honor.
- 5:38So if you're looking at your life and you've heard the Lord
- 5:41say all these wonderful, awesome, amazing, super true,
- 5:45absolutely wonderful things that you're supposed to do and you're
- 5:48supposed to be and you're supposed to possess and exhibit
- 5:51and bless the world with and da da, da.
- 5:54And, and, and you're like pushing and striving and trying
- 5:56to do the things. Honey, just be the broom.
- 6:00When the Lord needs you to act in a place, he'll take you out
- 6:04the prayer closet, the crying closet, the place where you meet
- 6:08Him, and He'll use you for that mess.
- 6:11He'll use you for that spot and then go back in the closet with
- 6:15Jesus. Be the broom.
- 6:19There's no pressure on being the broom.
- 6:22The broom is not the vase holding the flowers.
- 6:25The, the broom is in the closet with Jesus until there's a mess
- 6:28that He needs you to clean up and then He calls you out and
- 6:31you do the thing and you go back into the place with Him.
- 6:34But you're always just the broom and that's OK.
- 6:38That is actually wonderful because you know who gets the
- 6:41glory when he uses the broom? He does.
- 6:44He does. And there is such richness in
- 6:47humility. The only thing the Lord can
- 6:50clothe with His glory is humility.
- 6:55It is the humbleness of your soul, the brokenness of your
- 6:58heart. It's not in the accolades, it's
- 7:01not in the titles, it's not in the identities that other people
- 7:08are astonished by. It's in being willing to be the
- 7:12broom. Those who want to be the
- 7:14greatest have to become the last.
- 7:18Jesus came and was a servant to everybody.
- 7:21Even though he was the king who made everything, He was a
- 7:25servant to everyone. And it's such a broken place.
- 7:31It is a broken place to realize you have to be the broom, honey.
- 7:37You have to be the servant. You don't have to be the
- 7:40doormat. He never said come over here now
- 7:43and be the doormat. He said.
- 7:46Come into my rest. It's not about striving.
- 7:52It's about resting. It's about humility.
- 7:56It's about service. It's about feeling the honor
- 8:01bestowed upon you when the Lord calls you to be in a place and
- 8:06do a thing and say a word, even if nobody else sees it but Him
- 8:11and that other person in you. It's an honor to be used by the
- 8:14Lord, even if you are just the broom.
- 8:18I tell you the the broom, the broom is a vessel of honor.
- 8:25Be the broom. Music.
- 10:03Music. Music.
- 11:42The.
