- 0:22Speaker 5: Are all right, we are live again practice wrap up.
- 0:29Speaker 5: It's Paul, it's me, It's gonna be Deuce and Evan.
- 0:32Speaker 5: We might be joined by a special guest. We'll see.
- 0:36Speaker 5: But it is day two of the mini camp and
- 0:38Speaker 5: it's gonna be the final day of practice, so we're
- 0:41Speaker 5: gonna be here for the next hour or so wrapping
- 0:44Speaker 5: up everything that we saw. I didn't I was busy,
- 0:47Speaker 5: but Paul was there and Evan and Duce, so they'll
- 0:50Speaker 5: have everything to say.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Now they move practice indoors.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Doors, so it was a little bit tougher to sort
- 0:56Speaker 3: of decipher everything that's going on. I thought ev was
- 0:58Speaker 3: in a better spot than Mike and I were, but
- 1:01Speaker 3: I would say, and again, I wasn't there yesterday. You guys,
- 1:03Speaker 3: I'm sure had your rocket shots about that. From what
- 1:08Speaker 3: I read and determined from yesterday, it was a pretty
- 1:12Speaker 3: positive practice for the offense. Drake May in particular, I
- 1:16Speaker 3: would say this wasn't quite as good as that. I
- 1:19Speaker 3: thought the defense made more plays today than it sounded
- 1:22Speaker 3: like they made yesterday. All that said, it was telling
- 1:25Speaker 3: Fred as we were getting ready to start, I just
- 1:27Speaker 3: find watching Drake May this like more of a comfort
- 1:31Speaker 3: level that I didn't really see a lot at this
- 1:34Speaker 3: time last year, which makes sense. Last year he was
- 1:37Speaker 3: sort of deferring to Jacoby Brissette. This year he's the man.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I just I feel like they're in and out of
- 1:44Speaker 3: the huddle, quicker crisper. There's not a lot of you know, no,
- 1:48Speaker 3: you're supposed to be over here, You're supposed to go
- 1:50Speaker 3: over there. Okay, now you go in motion. The players
- 1:54Speaker 3: are getting run with an efficient pace. Again, I thought
- 1:58Speaker 3: the defense sort of controlled things a little bit today.
- 2:00Speaker 3: But to me, the bigger picture item here is the
- 2:03Speaker 3: offense looks to be a little bit more cohesive.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Than it certainly did at this time last year.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe you could make fun of that and say
- 2:10Speaker 3: that's a low bar, you know, be that as it may.
- 2:12Speaker 4: I think they're they're getting there, getting up to speed.
- 2:16Speaker 5: H So we'll we'll break all that down with Evan
- 2:19Speaker 5: and Deuce as well, after practice it was player availability
- 2:23Speaker 5: and Stefan Diggs had his first player availability, uh you know,
- 2:28Speaker 5: in that type of setting, and so we'll break down
- 2:31Speaker 5: everything that he had to say when the guys get
- 2:32Speaker 5: back as well.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Yeah, and so they had a good mix of some
- 2:36Speaker 3: veterans and Rooked I know, I think Hunter Henry spoke
- 2:39Speaker 3: for a little bit. Diggs was scheduled to speak, and
- 2:42Speaker 3: then they had some rookies. I think Mike was talking
- 2:44Speaker 3: to Trevion Henderson as I left to get over and
- 2:47Speaker 3: help you out, Freddy. So some of you know, I'm
- 2:50Speaker 3: not sure if Will Campbell's going to talk to you, Okay,
- 2:54Speaker 3: So yeah, be curious to see what the guys say,
- 2:58Speaker 3: you know, went on with some of that media availability.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Oh and guess who's walking into the room. It's Jenny
- 3:05Speaker 5: all right, good to see you.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Have a seed.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Have a seed? All right?
- 3:12Speaker 5: Well to what do we owe this? You know, you
- 3:15Speaker 5: just decided to come in. Nobody asked you.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Yeah, no, no request, mate.
- 3:19Speaker 2: You saw the on air outside, said I'm coming in.
- 3:21Speaker 4: What's going on in there? It looks fun?
- 3:22Speaker 2: Yeah, Well thanks for coming.
- 3:25Speaker 5: So Paul you probably know, Paul, I'm Fred appreciate you coming.
- 3:30Speaker 2: By How was practice today?
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 3:33Speaker 6: No, gun after you know, the last day this spring,
- 3:37Speaker 6: you know, uh, next time we come out, we're gonna
- 3:39Speaker 6: be in training camp and you know, get ready for
- 3:42Speaker 6: the season.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Yeah. So like, how does that feel to you?
- 3:44Speaker 5: Because I know tomorrow you're probably still gonna be here,
- 3:46Speaker 5: but you're not going to be out in the field.
- 3:49Speaker 5: And then you're off right until training camp until you
- 3:52Speaker 5: have to report the training camp.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Like, how do you know, keep that focus during that
- 3:58Speaker 2: time off and get ready for camp?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Happened? You know?
- 4:00Speaker 2: Coach Rable was saying today and his.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Press conference, like, you know, ten days before camp starts,
- 4:05Speaker 5: you start to get a little cranky because you start thinking,
- 4:07Speaker 5: all right, I gotta I gotta get my mind right,
- 4:10Speaker 5: Like you've been through this before this break?
- 4:12Speaker 2: How do you deal with it? Yeah?
- 4:14Speaker 6: I mean for me at this point going into your
- 4:16Speaker 6: six you know, you kind of use O t A's
- 4:19Speaker 6: mini camp to you know, just see where you're at,
- 4:21Speaker 6: how you feel, you know, if you put on weight
- 4:24Speaker 6: or mostly like you know, where do you think you
- 4:26Speaker 6: need to be there by the season. You know you're
- 4:29Speaker 6: trying to you're trying to fine tune those things over
- 4:31Speaker 6: the break, you know, so you can come back training
- 4:33Speaker 6: camp full speed.
- 4:34Speaker 2: And so where are you? How do you feel about you?
- 4:37Speaker 6: I feel great, you know, uh, you know, a bit
- 4:41Speaker 6: different you know system over the defense that we have,
- 4:44Speaker 6: uh then we that we have had since I've been
- 4:47Speaker 6: here in the past.
- 4:48Speaker 1: But uh, you know, I'm looking forward to it.
- 4:50Speaker 6: You know, we had a lot of chemistry this this
- 4:52Speaker 6: off season, you know, with the coaches and the playoffs.
- 4:55Speaker 6: You know, just looking forward to it.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Man, you're talking about the differences defensively and the system.
- 5:00Speaker 4: Can you sort of explain something?
- 5:01Speaker 3: It is as simple as you guys are a little
- 5:04Speaker 3: bit more aggressive in getting upfield.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I get in the back.
- 5:07Speaker 7: Uh.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You know, it's just you know, we got new coaching
- 5:10Speaker 1: stuff obviously.
- 5:11Speaker 6: Uh you know, you know they believe in you know
- 5:14Speaker 6: what they believe in, and you know it's different than
- 5:16Speaker 6: the past coaching stuff that we have. But you know
- 5:19Speaker 6: that the you know, the main thing, the main thing,
- 5:22Speaker 6: you know, playing together and playing fast and you know
- 5:24Speaker 6: that's that's all that we really want to do.
- 5:27Speaker 5: So with the new DC Tourell Williams, he hasn't been
- 5:29Speaker 5: here because he had his health scare that he talked about,
- 5:32Speaker 5: but has he been in touch with guys, like, you know,
- 5:34Speaker 5: is there any communication between him and the players or
- 5:38Speaker 5: the position coaches.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. You know, he's still eat locked in every day.
- 5:43Speaker 6: Uh you know, he kind of reviews the film, give
- 5:46Speaker 6: us feedback and you know, just like.
- 5:48Speaker 1: He would if he would if he was here.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, so, Yeah, I'm eager to get him
- 5:52Speaker 5: out here because I hear he is a really good
- 5:54Speaker 5: position coach too. Like, I'm sure he's going to be
- 5:57Speaker 5: doing more than just d C. He's going to be
- 5:59Speaker 5: in the trenches.
- 6:00Speaker 1: With you guys. Yeah, no doubt.
- 6:02Speaker 6: I mean that's that's how all the coaching staff, you know,
- 6:04Speaker 6: they they kind of made it a point of emphasis,
- 6:07Speaker 6: you know, coming in here that that they want to
- 6:08Speaker 6: be you know, not not just you know, telling us
- 6:11Speaker 6: what to do, but they want to you know, walk
- 6:12Speaker 6: with us.
- 6:13Speaker 5: Uh.
- 6:13Speaker 1: You know, so I think that's used and you know,
- 6:15Speaker 1: that's that's been good to screen.
- 6:17Speaker 3: So we talk a lot about when the system changes
- 6:20Speaker 3: on the offense and how difficult that get gets a
- 6:22Speaker 3: lot of attention. You know, Drake may having to learn
- 6:24Speaker 3: another offensive system with Josh mcdenniel's coming in.
- 6:27Speaker 4: I'm curious to.
- 6:28Speaker 3: What it's like for a defensive player you've been you mentioned,
- 6:31Speaker 3: you know, different from the local coaches. I know you've
- 6:33Speaker 3: done some two gapping and you know it's a different
- 6:36Speaker 3: mentality up front. And you even had that in college
- 6:39Speaker 3: with with Nick. So how much of a transition is
- 6:42Speaker 3: it for you?
- 6:43Speaker 5: Man?
- 6:43Speaker 1: At the end of the day, I feel like I'm
- 6:44Speaker 1: a ball player, you know.
- 6:45Speaker 6: So you know I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna adjust
- 6:49Speaker 6: and I'm gonna, you know, learn the schemes.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Uh.
- 6:51Speaker 6: You know, I'm gonna just pick it up. You know,
- 6:54Speaker 6: some days better than others. You know, it's all a
- 6:56Speaker 6: learning process. But you know, at the end of the day,
- 6:58Speaker 6: you know that's that's what that is. That's it's something new.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Uh.
- 7:02Speaker 1: We all learning it together, and you know, we moving
- 7:04Speaker 1: forward every day.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:06Speaker 5: Coach Rabel came in just from day one. He says,
- 7:08Speaker 5: you know, we're building a culture here.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Do you sense that? Do you sense that?
- 7:12Speaker 5: You know he's putting his thumbprint on this team and
- 7:14Speaker 5: you're starting to build a culture together with your teammates.
- 7:17Speaker 6: Yeah, one thousand percent. You know, it's it's day, day
- 7:21Speaker 6: by day. Uh, you know, And like I said, man,
- 7:24Speaker 6: we had a good spring. We've grown a lot as
- 7:27Speaker 6: a team. Uh, you know, learning a lot about each
- 7:29Speaker 6: other personally.
- 7:30Speaker 3: Uh.
- 7:31Speaker 6: You know, it's just looking forward to it, man, looking
- 7:33Speaker 6: for training camp and you know, preseason into the season, man,
- 7:37Speaker 6: and you know, see what things are.
- 7:39Speaker 3: So Fred and I have works here for a long time,
- 7:41Speaker 3: both of us for over twenty years. But we we
- 7:44Speaker 3: kind of agree that we've we've sent a different sort
- 7:46Speaker 3: of energy in the building since Mike came in. And
- 7:50Speaker 3: I'm just wondering if the players feel like that too.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I Mean, it's not anything that Gerard Mayo didn't bring,
- 7:55Speaker 3: because we sent some you know, newness and excitement last
- 7:58Speaker 3: year as well. But we just feel like there's a
- 8:00Speaker 3: different energy in the building.
- 8:01Speaker 1: And do the players feel that? Uh? I mean, like
- 8:05Speaker 1: I said, man, we we we've we've.
- 8:07Speaker 6: Had to you know, learn a new scheme, new system, uh,
- 8:10Speaker 6: learn new players.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Uh.
- 8:12Speaker 6: And you know, just you know, we've grown over the spreen.
- 8:15Speaker 6: Like I said, Uh, you know, we're all excited. Man,
- 8:18Speaker 6: we're looking forward to it. We know that the standing
- 8:21Speaker 6: around here and you know that's what we're looking forward
- 8:23Speaker 6: to get back to.
- 8:24Speaker 1: Uh. So we're excited about that.
- 8:26Speaker 5: I mean, everyone's held about the defense. You've got some
- 8:30Speaker 5: some really good players I think on the team and
- 8:34Speaker 5: maybe no better than the two corners that you guys have.
- 8:37Speaker 5: So as the front seven guy, when you think about, hey,
- 8:40Speaker 5: we got Gunzo on one side, we are Carlton on
- 8:43Speaker 5: the other side. They're gonna lock down, how does that
- 8:46Speaker 5: make you feel?
- 8:46Speaker 2: Like?
- 8:46Speaker 5: Does that get you excited about the freedom that it's
- 8:49Speaker 5: gonna you know, the complimentary football, but it's gonna give
- 8:52Speaker 5: the front seven.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah, one hundred percent. Uh.
- 8:54Speaker 6: You know, just like you said, playing compromentary football, sometimes
- 8:57Speaker 6: the rush have to help out the coverage and sometimes
- 8:59Speaker 6: the cover have to help out, you know, the rush man.
- 9:02Speaker 6: You know, having guys like that back then, man, and
- 9:05Speaker 6: you know seeing them compete at a high level. I
- 9:07Speaker 6: mean you look at our dB room like all of
- 9:10Speaker 6: those guys you know, competitive and you know can play
- 9:12Speaker 6: and could be no more guys anyway, Like, so you know,
- 9:15Speaker 6: looking forward to that man, and you know, just having fun, man,
- 9:18Speaker 6: playing together, playing fast and having fun.
- 9:20Speaker 1: That's what we're trying to get back to it.
- 9:21Speaker 3: I know you're a much different kind of player, and
- 9:23Speaker 3: you know your game is about power in the front
- 9:25Speaker 3: seven guys, but you ever watch a guy like Gonzo
- 9:27Speaker 3: and just say, man, yeah, guys, it's not fair that
- 9:30Speaker 3: he's that. I mean that interception you had down the sideline,
- 9:34Speaker 3: it was just.
- 9:34Speaker 6: Like yeah, I mean like I was looking at that too,
- 9:38Speaker 6: and I'm like, man, you know, but you know, that's
- 9:41Speaker 6: the type of stuff he's been doing off spring. You know,
- 9:43Speaker 6: Cards and you know, funny funny about cardson Me and
- 9:45Speaker 6: him played in the All Star Game in high school,
- 9:49Speaker 6: coming out of high school together, you know, in a
- 9:52Speaker 6: simplified deals in California game and you know, him going
- 9:55Speaker 6: on to go go and play for Auburn US being
- 9:58Speaker 6: robb Ree, you know what I'm saying. So I kind
- 10:00Speaker 6: of had a relationship with him, and then you know
- 10:02Speaker 6: him now being here, you know, looking forward to it. Man,
- 10:04Speaker 6: you know, I know how what type of competitor is.
- 10:06Speaker 6: I know what type of competitive guns are with.
- 10:08Speaker 2: That's pretty cool.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Oh oh god man, the guys ready to go.
- 10:11Speaker 2: That's awesome. So I know you've got other things to do.
- 10:15Speaker 5: But before you go, breaks coming anything, playing any trips,
- 10:19Speaker 5: anything's fun that you're gonna do just to kind of
- 10:21Speaker 5: get away from football for a little bit.
- 10:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I'm hanging around with family, spend a
- 10:26Speaker 6: lot of time with him, or they just moved a temple, so, uh,
- 10:29Speaker 6: you know, just hanging out Tampa. Yeah, and uh, you
- 10:32Speaker 6: know training and during that time with the film and
- 10:36Speaker 6: you know, getting ready to lock you in here and
- 10:37Speaker 6: you know, just go do what we gotta do.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Okay, times goes by fast, you'll be back here.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah. So relative all right, Anfrety, thank you so much
- 10:46Speaker 2: for coming by.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Appreciate thanks for stopping.
- 10:48Speaker 2: All right, all right, Anthrethy Jennings on Patriots Unfiltered.
- 10:52Speaker 4: That was nice.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, I find it interesting just you know, sort
- 10:57Speaker 3: of the changes defensively and we we keep talking about
- 10:59Speaker 3: our man abstracts. You know, it's like, well it's going
- 11:01Speaker 3: to be more of an aggressive, penetrating defense. But it
- 11:05Speaker 3: kind of struck me in the middle of talking to
- 11:07Speaker 3: him that it's really not any different than what we
- 11:11Speaker 3: talk about with Drake May. Right, you know, you're asking
- 11:13Speaker 3: Drake May to learn different things. Well, he's you know,
- 11:17Speaker 3: Jennings has done things a certain way for five years
- 11:20Speaker 3: and really for him, going back to his college career
- 11:22Speaker 3: was with Nick Saban a very similar kind of mindset.
- 11:26Speaker 3: Now you're asked to do it in a whole different way,
- 11:28Speaker 3: and it's going to take some time, I think, to adjustin.
- 11:31Speaker 3: You know, we'll see how it all unfolds with these guys.
- 11:33Speaker 3: I think there's a lot of new you guys. You
- 11:34Speaker 3: also mentioned all the newness on defense, so there's a
- 11:37Speaker 3: lot of moving the.
- 11:38Speaker 2: Lazar joining us. Now, wow, what Evan has turned.
- 11:47Speaker 8: Has turned practice?
- 11:52Speaker 2: All right?
- 11:53Speaker 7: Evan, what did you see a little bit of a
- 11:55Speaker 7: bounce back day from the defense today? That we had
- 11:58Speaker 7: Jalen Hawkins in here yesterday and he tipped the cap
- 12:01Speaker 7: to the offense on Monday and said they were doing
- 12:04Speaker 7: their thing today. But I felt like today a little
- 12:06Speaker 7: bit of a bounce back. You guys are talking to
- 12:08Speaker 7: Anthony about the Christian Gonzalez his interception and the red zone.
- 12:12Speaker 7: They tightened it up a little bit, I thought today
- 12:15Speaker 7: compared to yesterday. So that's good. You want that back
- 12:17Speaker 7: and forth. You don't want one side of the ball
- 12:19Speaker 7: to dominate play, you know, for multiple practice brow. So
- 12:23Speaker 7: a little bit of a nice bounce back today for
- 12:27Speaker 7: the defense.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:27Speaker 5: I was out there for a little bit in the
- 12:29Speaker 5: beginning of clustrophobic being inside. It's just too many people
- 12:33Speaker 5: for you know, especially this time of year. When it's
- 12:35Speaker 5: ninety guys, just just too much for just that field house.
- 12:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I would agree.
- 12:40Speaker 3: And you know, I'm sure that Mike had his reasons
- 12:43Speaker 3: for switching.
- 12:44Speaker 1: You.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I don't understand him, no, but I'm sure he has
- 12:47Speaker 4: his reasons.
- 12:47Speaker 5: And no, I know, but like if it was a
- 12:49Speaker 5: downpour and it really impeded you from teaching and learning,
- 12:52Speaker 5: I could get. But it was just a miss, you know,
- 12:55Speaker 5: unless they were just a no no, unless they were
- 12:58Speaker 5: not happy, unless the forecast really did call for downpours,
- 13:01Speaker 5: and that's why they just didn't want to have to
- 13:03Speaker 5: switch mid stream.
- 13:04Speaker 3: But on the on the positive side, Friday, there was
- 13:07Speaker 3: a food truck available. Yeah, outside of practice, which the
- 13:10Speaker 3: media was allowed to partake in.
- 13:12Speaker 7: Nice eventually, Yeah, because they enjoyed it.
- 13:15Speaker 5: Marketing had a bunch of rookie season ticket members out there.
- 13:18Speaker 5: Is that the gaslines were full of people watching practice, and.
- 13:22Speaker 3: So one of them could have been might do so,
- 13:24Speaker 3: that's true, that's right, rookie season.
- 13:27Speaker 7: That was one of the more bizarre practices I've ever
- 13:30Speaker 7: been to. Because of that, they had the rookie season
- 13:32Speaker 7: ticket holders apparently with the marketing guests and then all
- 13:35Speaker 7: the media all trying to stand on the sideline but
- 13:38Speaker 7: not beyond the sideline because you want to be too
- 13:40Speaker 7: close to the field. And it was a little bit.
- 13:43Speaker 7: It was tough. It was there's a lot of people
- 13:45Speaker 7: inside that place today and even the organization, I think
- 13:49Speaker 7: they had to the team had to go off script
- 13:53Speaker 7: a little bit to fit everything in because of the space.
- 13:56Speaker 7: So that made it a little bit different.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Yep, we should probably talk about Stefan Diggs. Were you
- 14:04Speaker 5: at his scrum for a little bit, Yeah, And what
- 14:06Speaker 5: was that all about? And you know, tell me what
- 14:09Speaker 5: he had to say.
- 14:10Speaker 7: Yeah, nothing, nothing to headline graby from Stefan Diggs, But
- 14:15Speaker 7: I think the overall message was, you know that he
- 14:17Speaker 7: feels good and that he feels like he's progressing the
- 14:21Speaker 7: way that he would want to be. And he, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 7: was asked a little bit about Drake May and Mike
- 14:26Speaker 7: Rabel and playing for him, and you know, he said that,
- 14:29Speaker 7: you know, Rabel, there's definitely some carryover from being a
- 14:33Speaker 7: player that he can feel that. But you know, there's
- 14:36Speaker 7: also an authoritarian aspect of being the head coach as
- 14:39Speaker 7: well that comes into play too. But I think with
- 14:44Speaker 7: Drake May, you know, he was honest, and he just said,
- 14:46Speaker 7: you know, he looks great, but I'm not out there
- 14:48Speaker 7: with him yet, so I don't really know, you know,
- 14:51Speaker 7: quite yet about playing with him, because I haven't been
- 14:54Speaker 7: able to play with him yet. But I think overall,
- 14:56Speaker 7: the optimistic tone about his health and his knee in
- 15:00Speaker 7: the conditioning that he's in and all that good stuff,
- 15:03Speaker 7: it seems like it's moving in the right You.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Say, nothing really headliney was was he at liberty to
- 15:09Speaker 5: even guess at his own timetable or no?
- 15:12Speaker 7: I mean, I'm sure he if he wanted to, he could,
- 15:15Speaker 7: but I didn't hear him talking about timelines or anything
- 15:19Speaker 7: like that right.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Now, I think, And no one asked him.
- 15:22Speaker 7: I wasn't there for the entire thing, so I had
- 15:24Speaker 7: full disclosure. I don't know if Dus and I were
- 15:28Speaker 7: off with the rookies for a little bit of it.
- 15:30Speaker 7: It was a pretty big media scrum around Diggs. As
- 15:33Speaker 7: you can imagine. He wasn't at a podium, so it
- 15:35Speaker 7: was not exactly an easy seat to get in front
- 15:39Speaker 7: there and everything. So but yeah, and the a couple
- 15:43Speaker 7: of minutes I listened to him was pretty normal.
- 15:46Speaker 4: It's very charming.
- 15:47Speaker 3: I found him he just he knows he's one of
- 15:49Speaker 3: those guys who can turn it on whenever he wants
- 15:51Speaker 3: and be fun and affable.
- 15:53Speaker 4: And I think he was. I caught a brief bit too.
- 15:55Speaker 4: I ended up kind of having a one on one
- 15:57Speaker 4: with Travon.
- 15:58Speaker 3: Henderson because none of that one phoning it out to
- 16:00Speaker 3: the social media team.
- 16:01Speaker 4: I said, look, my boys all grows up being a journalists.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Oh you know.
- 16:04Speaker 3: I mean it's a capital Jake journalist thing going on
- 16:06Speaker 3: over there. Pr came walking over with him and everyone's
- 16:09Speaker 3: it digs and it's like, you know, the poor kid.
- 16:11Speaker 3: So he's a really nice kid, trad and Henderson really enjoyed.
- 16:13Speaker 3: I hadn't talked to him yet, you know, just small stuff.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Ask somebout was past blocking and you know what it's
- 16:17Speaker 3: been like in the room. But he's been an impressive
- 16:19Speaker 3: player through these OTA practices. Every time he touches the ball.
- 16:22Speaker 3: I felt like today you were closer, you get a
- 16:25Speaker 3: little bit better sense of his speed, and man he
- 16:27Speaker 3: is he's just like I said, yesterd he floats. That
- 16:29Speaker 3: stood out to me as well. And that was the
- 16:31Speaker 3: one thing you and I agree with you, Fred about
- 16:33Speaker 3: the claustrophobic nature. Of being indoors with all those people.
- 16:36Speaker 3: But the one thing that you do sort of get
- 16:38Speaker 3: a look at standing so close on the side at
- 16:41Speaker 3: field level is just how big they are and how
- 16:44Speaker 3: fast they are.
- 16:45Speaker 2: You know't want to get in their way.
- 16:46Speaker 3: He was one of the guys like he caught a
- 16:48Speaker 3: little swing in front of Mike and I a little
- 16:50Speaker 3: swing pass, turned it up field and you know, put
- 16:52Speaker 3: it in full throttle for a second. Was like, yeah,
- 16:55Speaker 3: you know, like you can just you get a real
- 16:57Speaker 3: sense of just how athletic they are.
- 16:59Speaker 5: I mean, and remember back in the old Foxboro Stadium
- 17:03Speaker 5: at the end of games, you know, we would have
- 17:05Speaker 5: to be standing up literally on the sideline for the
- 17:07Speaker 5: last five minutes of the game. And like Paul said,
- 17:10Speaker 5: when you're down there, I feel level that close you
- 17:14Speaker 5: realize the collisions that they have, like these are these
- 17:18Speaker 5: are car wrecks, big dude, these are these are high
- 17:21Speaker 5: speed collisions. And it's it's no wonder that the injuries
- 17:26Speaker 5: happened and that these careers the average career is like
- 17:29Speaker 5: three years. Yeah, you know, because the size of these guys,
- 17:32Speaker 5: the speed of these guys combined with the collision, it's
- 17:35Speaker 5: it's incredible to see up close.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, no question the size of the guys, and
- 17:40Speaker 3: that was a little different being inside today. But I
- 17:42Speaker 3: don't know if you got I'm sure you guys already
- 17:44Speaker 3: wax poetic about what you saw.
- 17:46Speaker 2: It just felt like, well they did.
- 17:48Speaker 3: I just I thought the defense, you know, bounced back,
- 17:50Speaker 3: and not that I hate saying bounce back, but just
- 17:52Speaker 3: defense had a little more success today and there's just
- 17:54Speaker 3: a lot of good energy. I think that was my
- 17:55Speaker 3: biggest takeaway was just I don't know if I remember
- 17:58Speaker 3: it feeling this like guys really into it and you know,
- 18:01Speaker 3: yelling for deflected passes, and you know, you could feel
- 18:04Speaker 3: the competitiveness off the field, especially on defense. Another thing
- 18:08Speaker 3: I noticed with them was just we talked a little
- 18:11Speaker 3: bit about the offense looking a little smoother in the
- 18:13Speaker 3: operation yesterday and I think a little bit today as well.
- 18:15Speaker 4: But defensive communication, I think.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Last year noticing some of the we're still trying to
- 18:21Speaker 3: get calls when the snap goes, and it seems like
- 18:23Speaker 3: these guys this year very much got their communication down.
- 18:26Speaker 3: They're getting everybody's on the same page, you see, you know,
- 18:28Speaker 3: you get that feeling where everybody talks, they do the
- 18:30Speaker 3: thing and then boom, they're all locked in right before
- 18:32Speaker 3: the snap. Thought that was a positive sign for Evan.
- 18:34Speaker 3: One of the things I said to Fred that I,
- 18:36Speaker 3: you know, I basically I wasn't there, so I didn't
- 18:39Speaker 3: see it yesterday. But based on what I read and
- 18:42Speaker 3: then what I saw again today, I just feel like
- 18:46Speaker 3: even when the plays aren't successful, there's a crispness, like
- 18:49Speaker 3: they're not in the huddle for a long time. There's
- 18:51Speaker 3: not a lot of reorganization at the line. You know,
- 18:55Speaker 3: guys go in motion when they're supposed to. And I
- 18:57Speaker 3: don't know if you guys have noticed the same thing.
- 19:01Speaker 3: I don't want to say that, well, look at how
- 19:03Speaker 3: much better it is now, because I don't know, we
- 19:05Speaker 3: haven't seen the results yet. But operational last year it
- 19:08Speaker 3: was false start, false start, someone not lined up in
- 19:12Speaker 3: the proper slot, he's on the wrong side, or it
- 19:14Speaker 3: didn't go in motion was when he was supposed to.
- 19:17Speaker 4: I don't see a lot of that.
- 19:18Speaker 3: No, no, yeah, And I think that's been a purpose
- 19:20Speaker 3: efficiency to the way the plays get run.
- 19:23Speaker 5: I think I think that's Rabel and I think it's
- 19:25Speaker 5: the it's McDaniels just prepping these guys off the field
- 19:30Speaker 5: so that when they get on the field they're ready
- 19:32Speaker 5: to go.
- 19:33Speaker 7: Yeah, you can see the build up in the way
- 19:35Speaker 7: that the practices are scripted. So I'm sure they go
- 19:39Speaker 7: in the classroom and they teach these plays on the
- 19:42Speaker 7: board and you know, on video, and then they go
- 19:45Speaker 7: onto the field and they do it and walk through form,
- 19:48Speaker 7: and then they go from walk through to like a
- 19:50Speaker 7: jog through where it's against a defense, but it's not
- 19:52Speaker 7: an actual live period, and then they go to the
- 19:55Speaker 7: live period where they're running all the same plays, right,
- 19:58Speaker 7: but they're sort of progressively building them hustle memory of
- 20:01Speaker 7: what is this place supposed to look like? So I
- 20:03Speaker 7: think you once you get to the live eleven on
- 20:06Speaker 7: eleven's like they've already repped that play sequence like two
- 20:10Speaker 7: or three times in the day already, so by the
- 20:13Speaker 7: time you get to that point, you really should know
- 20:16Speaker 7: what you're doing and have everybody lined up. There was
- 20:18Speaker 7: one rehuddle today, which was the first time that I
- 20:20Speaker 7: even really took note of that. Pretty much all spring
- 20:23Speaker 7: that I don't recall that they had one. It looked
- 20:27Speaker 7: like that may be a little bit of a slow
- 20:29Speaker 7: defensive substitution on their personnel package like are we you know,
- 20:33Speaker 7: what package are we putting on the field type thing?
- 20:36Speaker 7: But overall, I I agree, just such a smoother operation.
- 20:40Speaker 7: I just think in general too, there's so much further
- 20:43Speaker 7: along offensively with the install now compared to the last
- 20:48Speaker 7: couple of years. And all this is mental stuff, like
- 20:50Speaker 7: none of this is actually, to Paul's point, like the physical.
- 20:53Speaker 7: Can they go out there and make the plays. But
- 20:55Speaker 7: you can see how they're adding on a little bit
- 20:58Speaker 7: and adding on a little bit, you know, to there
- 21:00Speaker 7: was some more stuff in the red zone that they
- 21:02Speaker 7: didn't do yesterday that they added on today, and.
- 21:04Speaker 3: Some no huddle stuff early in practice even and they said,
- 21:07Speaker 3: you know, Rabel said before practice that it was actually
- 21:10Speaker 3: no huddle and uh silent count.
- 21:12Speaker 7: They were doing silent count stuff in June, you.
- 21:15Speaker 4: Know, Was that why they were blasting the music?
- 21:17Speaker 3: But even louder like as soon as they get to
- 21:19Speaker 3: the line, they were like increasing the.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Old guys that were standing right in front of the speaker.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Was it was struggling And I will say the very
- 21:29Speaker 3: few nitpicky things that I would say, that's what it resulted.
- 21:32Speaker 3: It looked like there were times where there may have
- 21:35Speaker 3: been a false starter to or not a penalty fall start.
- 21:39Speaker 4: But not getting off on the snap. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 21:41Speaker 4: you know a couple of those. I thought the defense
- 21:43Speaker 4: got that.
- 21:43Speaker 3: Doug Landry and Keon White a couple of times got
- 21:47Speaker 3: the edge on tackles because it looked like the tackles
- 21:50Speaker 3: weren't off at the snap. Yeah, you know, and that's
- 21:53Speaker 3: part of the communication stuff. But nitpicky, nitpicky things.
- 21:56Speaker 7: Yeah right, maybe they jumped off side too, you know,
- 21:58Speaker 7: I never.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Know absolutely, And I thought there were a couple of
- 22:01Speaker 3: possible fall starts on offense that they just ran the place.
- 22:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 3: It wasn't like a guy jumping a full snap count ahead.
- 22:07Speaker 3: It was you know, the what's the jump? It was
- 22:10Speaker 3: what's what's the guy, uh the Kansas City guy to want?
- 22:14Speaker 3: Is it ty Taiwan Taylor? What's the guy that always
- 22:17Speaker 3: wants to Juwan Juwan? Not Taiwan Jawan Taylor. I thought
- 22:21Speaker 3: there were a couple of those today on the Patriots
- 22:24Speaker 3: that didn't get called.
- 22:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I noticed yesterday. I don't know if you got
- 22:28Speaker 5: speaking of you know, the snap and getting jumps. Moses,
- 22:31Speaker 5: is he a guy that he's a snap type of
- 22:34Speaker 5: timer and gets off a little bit early right on
- 22:38Speaker 5: the edge of you know.
- 22:40Speaker 7: Yeah, I haven't necessarily seen that in his tape in
- 22:44Speaker 7: the past. I mean it's not I haven't looked for
- 22:46Speaker 7: it either, so you know, you know, I don't know,
- 22:48Speaker 7: but uh, there could be some of that, you know
- 22:50Speaker 7: with him. He's getting older and might feel a little
- 22:52Speaker 7: bit slower out of the stand. So anything that you
- 22:54Speaker 7: can do to kind of steal half a foot or
- 22:57Speaker 7: whatever at this point of his career might be worth it.
- 23:00Speaker 7: But I I one of the things that you know,
- 23:02Speaker 7: just from a after practice standpoint, that Moses was has
- 23:07Speaker 7: been holding court all spring after practice, and that group
- 23:11Speaker 7: has grown considerably as the spring has increasing, and now
- 23:16Speaker 7: it's like the whole offensive line is like staying late
- 23:19Speaker 7: to like work on stuff. I saw Mike on went
- 23:23Speaker 7: who was like going through some stuff with some people too,
- 23:25Speaker 7: some guard you know, into your line stuff, and Moses
- 23:28Speaker 7: is standing there, but don is the shirt off, like
- 23:30Speaker 7: standing like you know, going through things with guys, and
- 23:34Speaker 7: he is constantly Moses is constantly giving pointers. I love
- 23:38Speaker 7: constantly coaching. Just it's pretty it's pretty cool.
- 23:44Speaker 2: That that tells me a couple of things.
- 23:46Speaker 5: One he knows what he's talking about and people are
- 23:49Speaker 5: realizing that and they're they're listening. Is like I said,
- 23:52Speaker 5: his flock is growing. Also, he's confident in himself and
- 23:55Speaker 5: his role on the team. Like a lot of guys
- 23:58Speaker 5: they come in on it's like, I don't have time.
- 24:00Speaker 5: It has been that I got to worry about my
- 24:01Speaker 5: own job. He's not seeing it was seemingly worried about that,
- 24:05Speaker 5: Like he knows my time in this league is limited.
- 24:08Speaker 5: You know, I don't have much left, so might as
- 24:11Speaker 5: well give it.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Back pour into these young kids, I mean, stiff diticks.
- 24:15Speaker 3: I heard him say similar things about the receiving room,
- 24:17Speaker 3: like we got a lot of young guys in here,
- 24:19Speaker 3: and I want to help.
- 24:20Speaker 4: Them come along. So it's a great sign.
- 24:22Speaker 3: I think they needed that, And especially when they cleaned
- 24:25Speaker 3: out a lot of their old leadership, a lot of
- 24:27Speaker 3: their old captains are gone. There's a bit of a
- 24:29Speaker 3: void right now for leadership, and those guys are stepping
- 24:32Speaker 3: up and hopefully it pays dividends.
- 24:33Speaker 2: So maybe he's an early candidate for captain.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Oh I thought I would say early candidate to be
- 24:37Speaker 4: a guest star on Father Fred. He said, flock and
- 24:40Speaker 4: who is.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Moses Okay, I thought you said Diggs, Yeah, I would.
- 24:46Speaker 3: I would think Logan Moses would have a chance to
- 24:48Speaker 3: be I thought you were talking about the wide receiver
- 24:53Speaker 3: room and then we're talking about you have an older
- 24:55Speaker 3: guy and digs in the wide receiver room because they're
- 24:57Speaker 3: all young.
- 24:58Speaker 4: That's exactly what Mike just said it but literally just
- 25:00Speaker 4: said that, and then Fred tack back to Moses.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I miss you tack back to Moses because
- 25:04Speaker 3: I was reading a Stefan Diggs tweet off of what
- 25:07Speaker 3: Mike was talking about with the wide receivers and just
- 25:10Speaker 3: nothing earth shattering, but he just says he he still
- 25:13Speaker 3: believes he's the number one receiver in this league and
- 25:15Speaker 3: that his goal was to play in Week one. So
- 25:17Speaker 3: I don't know if he got into anything further timetable
- 25:19Speaker 3: wise than that, but you know his goal is to
- 25:22Speaker 3: be ready by week one. You Know what I liked
- 25:24Speaker 3: from Diggs was Tommy Kerr and asked him if he
- 25:27Speaker 3: still wore a chip on his shoulder from being a
- 25:30Speaker 3: fifth round pick, and the cliche answer is like, of course,
- 25:33Speaker 3: like and he was kind of like, I don't know,
- 25:35Speaker 3: that was a long time ago.
- 25:36Speaker 4: It's kind of funny like, you know.
- 25:38Speaker 3: He's established himself now, it doesn't seem like he's still
- 25:41Speaker 3: motivated by being that.
- 25:42Speaker 4: You asked that.
- 25:42Speaker 3: Same question as Tom Brady, and no, right, well that's
- 25:45Speaker 3: what I was expecting, Paul.
- 25:46Speaker 4: That was of course. Tom Brady's like, I never forgot that,
- 25:48Speaker 4: and I remember the name of everybody that did it.
- 25:50Speaker 4: It says it all the time. A certain point, you're
- 25:52Speaker 4: the goat and you have to forget about us.
- 25:54Speaker 7: I think Tom Brady's still mad about it, right, pretty clear.
- 25:58Speaker 4: He's like Giovanni piece money.
- 26:03Speaker 2: From grade school, like people like, he just hates grades,
- 26:06Speaker 2: right right, Well.
- 26:07Speaker 4: He's like you. You and Tom have a lot in comment.
- 26:10Speaker 2: That's true.
- 26:10Speaker 4: And Richie Campanella, you know, I don't forget.
- 26:14Speaker 2: I don't forget, all right. So what else from practice?
- 26:18Speaker 4: You talked about the Gunzales interception?
- 26:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we did in poetry. Actually asked Anthony Jennings about it.
- 26:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I was basically like, you know, is it annoying when
- 26:27Speaker 3: you watch a guy that's like that athletic just shoots
- 26:30Speaker 3: his hand out just like he was like just like
- 26:31Speaker 3: someone tossed to you a piece of paper and you're like, oh,
- 26:34Speaker 3: he was like you know, covering Kyle Williams down I
- 26:36Speaker 3: saw some tweets that Evan put out after after the
- 26:39Speaker 3: practice too, and I agreed that there were some we've
- 26:42Speaker 3: been talking about the defensive plays.
- 26:44Speaker 4: The quick little slant.
- 26:46Speaker 3: Or in cutting route to Pop Douglas in the red
- 26:49Speaker 3: zone was was a highlight, as was the the play
- 26:52Speaker 3: Hunter Henry, and I know you mentioned.
- 26:54Speaker 4: Both of those.
- 26:55Speaker 3: So there was some plays too in a great I
- 26:57Speaker 3: mean it was like secondary groups. But I think Dobbs
- 27:00Speaker 3: hit John Giles on a really nice right right at
- 27:03Speaker 3: the pile on the front pylon and in the corner
- 27:05Speaker 3: in the red zone at the end of the game,
- 27:07Speaker 3: that that kind of closed practice on a real high
- 27:09Speaker 3: note for the offense. It was to Mike's point about
- 27:12Speaker 3: the amount of enthusiasm that's going into these plays. The
- 27:15Speaker 3: defense is really celebrating every pass breakup, and the offense,
- 27:19Speaker 3: like all eleven of them were really really into that.
- 27:22Speaker 3: That Actually wasn't Dobbs, it was the other guy was Woodbridgeridge.
- 27:26Speaker 4: What do I call him? Woolridge not Woodbridge and a
- 27:29Speaker 4: different guy, so different line.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Is that enthusiasm all Vrabel or is it also his coaches?
- 27:35Speaker 7: Well?
- 27:35Speaker 3: I thought it was a good sign because I found
- 27:37Speaker 3: myself wondering without Terrell Williams here, does the defense lack
- 27:42Speaker 3: a little bit of their identity of who they're going
- 27:43Speaker 3: to be when you have the actual defensive coordinator who
- 27:46Speaker 3: the team often kind of rallies around. And I thought
- 27:49Speaker 3: it was a good sign that you felt like the defense.
- 27:52Speaker 3: And I don't know for sure, but it seemed like, hey,
- 27:55Speaker 3: the offense had a pretty god day against this yesterday,
- 27:57Speaker 3: let's bring the energy today. So maybe it is Rabel,
- 27:59Speaker 3: but I just see it as a really positive sign
- 28:01Speaker 3: that the defense is.
- 28:03Speaker 5: If Terrell Williams is like in touch, and he said, yeah,
- 28:06Speaker 5: he's looking at the film every day. Yeah, he's you know,
- 28:08Speaker 5: giving us feedback. So he's, you know, as we expected. Yeah,
- 28:14Speaker 5: he's up on everything.
- 28:15Speaker 4: I'm sure he's got to be dying to.
- 28:18Speaker 3: I mean, I can't imagine like I would be like
- 28:19Speaker 3: kind of feel like fomo if I.
- 28:21Speaker 4: You know, I wasn't here to watch it, which I don't.
- 28:22Speaker 3: I don't even know I'm important to that, But to
- 28:24Speaker 3: not to be the defensive coordator, to not be able
- 28:26Speaker 3: to be there with your guys and to put your
- 28:27Speaker 3: stamp on this team and it's your first chance.
- 28:29Speaker 4: I'm sure it'll be great for them when he finally
- 28:31Speaker 4: does get back.
- 28:31Speaker 7: Yeah, a lot of the energy Bill Belichick would had
- 28:35Speaker 7: that football life thing. I think it was where he
- 28:37Speaker 7: talked about like celebrating your success, like being excited about
- 28:41Speaker 7: making good excited, right. But I feel like when the offense,
- 28:47Speaker 7: you know, the last couple of years in training camp,
- 28:48Speaker 7: the offense has struggled, Yeah, and it's hard to just
- 28:52Speaker 7: manufacture excitement and manufacture energy when you're going out there
- 28:56Speaker 7: and you're not doing well and you feel like you're
- 28:58Speaker 7: swimming upstream and.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Plus have that one good play and then it's ridiculous,
- 29:02Speaker 2: right right.
- 29:03Speaker 7: And so I feel like maybe this this competitiveness that
- 29:06Speaker 7: we're seeing in the energy is because it's more of
- 29:08Speaker 7: a back and forth. You know, there's a legitimate back
- 29:11Speaker 7: and forth between the two, uh, and and that is
- 29:14Speaker 7: going to bring out competitiveness and guys don't want to lose,
- 29:17Speaker 7: Guys don't want to be on the wrong end of plays,
- 29:19Speaker 7: and you know that sort of thing. So I think
- 29:21Speaker 7: that's good that that's what we've seen in the past,
- 29:24Speaker 7: when you know, the Patriots were at their best where
- 29:26Speaker 7: camps like this, where the camp was energetic, and there
- 29:29Speaker 7: was back and forth and there was competition.
- 29:32Speaker 5: What did you guys think about being indoors on a
- 29:35Speaker 5: day like today.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I like the burger aspect of it.
- 29:37Speaker 4: Yeah, otherwise it was it was.
- 29:39Speaker 2: It was.
- 29:39Speaker 4: It's hard to.
- 29:40Speaker 5: See any more clarity as to why. Like I was
- 29:42Speaker 5: telling Paul, like I could see if it was a downpour,
- 29:45Speaker 5: and it's really impeding us teaching them learning, you know,
- 29:48Speaker 5: because this isn't like getting prepared for a game yet,
- 29:52Speaker 5: where you.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Know, it's you don't care about the weather.
- 29:55Speaker 5: I think there's like trying to get things installed and everything,
- 29:59Speaker 5: but like it was just frizzling.
- 30:01Speaker 7: But there's little things nowadays with these players that if
- 30:05Speaker 7: you can give them a practice where they don't have
- 30:07Speaker 7: to practice in the rain in the middle of June
- 30:09Speaker 7: when you're really not trying to do much like don't
- 30:13Speaker 7: be a hardo about it, you know, like don't don't
- 30:15Speaker 7: be don't be the other way, because I think that
- 30:19Speaker 7: as a player that can be like really like we
- 30:21Speaker 7: have to go out in the rain and it's June
- 30:24Speaker 7: tenth or whatever it is, Like I don't it's not
- 30:28Speaker 7: like they're preparing to play a game on Sunday and weather.
- 30:30Speaker 5: No, I get I get that, But at the same time,
- 30:33Speaker 5: I don't think there was anything in today's weather that
- 30:37Speaker 5: kept you from doing what you needed to do, whereas
- 30:40Speaker 5: I can say going indoors did because it's limited.
- 30:43Speaker 2: It's more, you know, you're packed in, so.
- 30:48Speaker 4: That's kind I don't know how I felt fred walking in.
- 30:50Speaker 3: We talked about it before we went over with the
- 30:52Speaker 3: weather hamper what they're doing.
- 30:54Speaker 4: I totally hear everything Evan said, totally true. But I
- 30:57Speaker 4: felt when I was walking in kind of like, this
- 30:59Speaker 4: is the perfec like light rain, that it'll stress a
- 31:03Speaker 4: little bit.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Of snaps and you know, just just put enough stress
- 31:06Speaker 3: on the team that it would be an extra challenge
- 31:08Speaker 3: that I think you might like to see how they do,
- 31:11Speaker 3: just to just to ratchet up the intensity that the
- 31:13Speaker 3: difficulty just a tiny bit.
- 31:15Speaker 7: I just have to pick your battles, Yeah, I mean,
- 31:17Speaker 7: I have to pick your battles. With today's athletes, I
- 31:20Speaker 7: wonder what the players would have wanted.
- 31:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I do.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I think there's probably an argument to be made
- 31:27Speaker 3: that the inside the bubble makes it harder, stuffy, and
- 31:30Speaker 3: I'm sure they don't like practicing on the turf if
- 31:32Speaker 3: they don't have to.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Yeah right, yeah right.
- 31:34Speaker 4: So I mean I could see it. I could see
- 31:36Speaker 4: it both ways.
- 31:37Speaker 3: I kind of agree with Evan and that it's not
- 31:38Speaker 3: a huge deal to me either way. And I know
- 31:40Speaker 3: that some as I'm looking at my shows, probably will
- 31:44Speaker 3: make a big deal out of it, like oh, they're soft,
- 31:46Speaker 3: Like it's not because they're soft, it's not. There's no deep,
- 31:50Speaker 3: you know, hidden meaning behind it, probably other than what
- 31:52Speaker 3: Evan said, like, yeah, it's June tenth, we really have
- 31:55Speaker 3: to like if it's at all gonna win PS. Now,
- 31:58Speaker 3: as it turned out, I think Fred, you're right. The
- 32:00Speaker 3: weather really wasn't an impediment at all. But maybe this
- 32:04Speaker 3: forecast was for a little bit heavier rain and they
- 32:07Speaker 3: felt like we probably can get more accomplished going inside.
- 32:09Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 32:10Speaker 4: Maybe it's also kind of nothing.
- 32:12Speaker 5: Some early injuries too, someone slipping and we don't have
- 32:17Speaker 5: blown down in Achilles.
- 32:18Speaker 3: Sure, I mean, and there were some competitive plays out
- 32:20Speaker 3: there in practice. I mean Coltin Davis it seemed like tackled.
- 32:25Speaker 4: Well, he didn't, he did not. He did not tackle,
- 32:29Speaker 4: he did not. They went down in a heap.
- 32:31Speaker 3: There was there was some like like but a distance
- 32:37Speaker 3: it looked like, but they just they're playing hard, they're competing,
- 32:39Speaker 3: guys are going to fall down.
- 32:40Speaker 4: Sometimes.
- 32:40Speaker 3: I would worry more about the injuries on that turf
- 32:43Speaker 3: than than anything on grass. But again, I'm sure that
- 32:46Speaker 3: Mike had has reasons.
- 32:47Speaker 7: I just said, like, it's not even the injuries thing
- 32:50Speaker 7: to me, it's just I don't know, it just picked
- 32:52Speaker 7: your battles, like this is not the time where we
- 32:55Speaker 7: need to be putting guys out there in the pouring ring.
- 32:58Speaker 7: Like if we get into training camp and every single
- 33:00Speaker 7: time there's a there's a you know, cloud in the sky,
- 33:02Speaker 7: they're moving the practice inside, and that's a different story.
- 33:05Speaker 7: But I just don't think that you need to push
- 33:07Speaker 7: it with this sort of thing.
- 33:09Speaker 4: Cut some newsful, Fredy, I read that, you read it, Okay.
- 33:12Speaker 5: So the Patriots have just announced their training camp dates.
- 33:17Speaker 5: So these are the dates that will be open to
- 33:20Speaker 5: the public. These aren't all the training but these are
- 33:22Speaker 5: the dates that the public will.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Be invited to watch.
- 33:26Speaker 5: And the whole thing starts on Wednesday, July twenty third,
- 33:30Speaker 5: So get your pen and paper. July twenty third, the
- 33:34Speaker 5: twenty fourth, the twenty fifth, and the twenty sixth, that'll
- 33:38Speaker 5: be open practice. Then it resumes on the twenty eighth,
- 33:41Speaker 5: the twenty ninth, the thirtieth, and the thirty first, those
- 33:45Speaker 5: will be open practices, and then it resumes again on
- 33:49Speaker 5: August fourth, fifth, and sixth, and then the final open
- 33:54Speaker 5: practice will be August.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Tenth, and the one on the sixth, I believe is
- 33:58Speaker 3: the joint just with Washington.
- 34:00Speaker 5: Yeah, solo. Yeah, So if you're choosing one, you can
- 34:04Speaker 5: only go to one. That would be a good one
- 34:06Speaker 5: to go to August sixth.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Important to note, practices are at ten o'clock on this
- 34:11Speaker 3: so that's a little bit different than years past. I
- 34:13Speaker 3: think at that point they might be nine or nine
- 34:15Speaker 3: thirty somewhere in that range maybe, so a little bit
- 34:17Speaker 3: of a different practice schedule, probably ten to ten o'clock.
- 34:21Speaker 5: And obviously, you know, weather could change that in going
- 34:25Speaker 5: in the bubble and all that, but you know, ten
- 34:27Speaker 5: o'clock that could be good for this show because we
- 34:30Speaker 5: might be able to get some guys right off the field,
- 34:32Speaker 5: you know, twelve thirty or so sure to come into
- 34:35Speaker 5: the show. So that that's that'll be good for us.
- 34:37Speaker 7: So remember, first handful of practices are nonpadded, just like
- 34:41Speaker 7: what we're watching in the spring right now, So maybe
- 34:43Speaker 7: you're looking for like the real padded practices. You got
- 34:46Speaker 7: to kind of wait till the second.
- 34:47Speaker 4: Week of training that Monday, maybe that would be.
- 34:51Speaker 7: There's some NFLPA math that I practice, but probably Sunday
- 34:55Speaker 7: Sunday ramp up period. It's a whole thing.
- 34:58Speaker 5: So if you miss the dates, be up on Patriots
- 35:01Speaker 5: dot com. But training camp dates have been an ounce
- 35:04Speaker 5: so that's exciting.
- 35:06Speaker 3: So Wednesday, July twenty third, right, so that's the opening practice.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Yeah, perfect, twelve days.
- 35:13Speaker 7: Twelve days of open practice will be in Minnesota for
- 35:17Speaker 7: a couple so.
- 35:18Speaker 3: Right, yeah, and then and then it's then it's just
- 35:20Speaker 3: kind of open to the media there at the end
- 35:22Speaker 3: they'll be there's like a handful more h after, but
- 35:25Speaker 3: not to the fans. Yeah, no, I should be good.
- 35:28Speaker 3: Go to that joint practice if you're looking for something
- 35:29Speaker 3: to do. I can't recommend it enough. Joint practice is
- 35:32Speaker 3: a usually usually fun time. You get some ratcheted up
- 35:36Speaker 3: competition levels, get to see some other Washington, You get
- 35:38Speaker 3: a chance to see you know, Jayden Daniels.
- 35:41Speaker 5: Are you at all curious like in the past when
- 35:44Speaker 5: they had joint practices it was usually two days.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and this is only one.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Yeah, last year they.
- 35:49Speaker 3: Just did a lot of teams have been going to one.
- 35:51Speaker 3: They did they we only did one with Philly last year.
- 35:54Speaker 4: Right, it was brutal, it was enough it.
- 35:56Speaker 5: I was just going to say, like with two is
- 35:58Speaker 5: it because like you know, because they tempers flair.
- 36:00Speaker 4: I think that's why teams have the decided to go back.
- 36:04Speaker 7: Yeah, I think that they're it's they're great in terms
- 36:07Speaker 7: of in really all angles like fan experience, our experience.
- 36:11Speaker 7: Obviously they get good work in, but the league does
- 36:13Speaker 7: kind of have to get a hold of the fights
- 36:15Speaker 7: that break out at these practices, Like there's skirmishes at
- 36:18Speaker 7: pretty much every single one of these things, and whether
- 36:21Speaker 7: it's finding people or or docking practices or whatever the
- 36:25Speaker 7: case may be. They we're getting to the point now
- 36:28Speaker 7: where they might need to step in.
- 36:31Speaker 5: Last year, the year before where Green Bay almost went
- 36:33Speaker 5: into the where the fans were.
- 36:34Speaker 7: Yeah Carolina, right, oh, yeah, that was here green Bay
- 36:39Speaker 7: two years ago.
- 36:40Speaker 4: I saw that one day two years ago.
- 36:42Speaker 3: The second day, it was like seven fights within the
- 36:45Speaker 3: first like eight snaps, Like yeah, that skirmish, skirmish and
- 36:49Speaker 3: this bad And I think that's part of why they
- 36:50Speaker 3: moved in one day.
- 36:51Speaker 4: But I'll be curious that they're going to stick to
- 36:53Speaker 4: one day with Minnesota too, or if they're gonna maybe
- 36:55Speaker 4: they double.
- 36:55Speaker 2: I heard that was scheduled for two days, but I'm
- 36:58Speaker 2: not sure.
- 36:58Speaker 7: Yeah, I would hope. So if they're on all the
- 37:00Speaker 7: way to Minnesota for the week.
- 37:02Speaker 5: More than one, I mean, Washington could say the same thing,
- 37:05Speaker 5: you know, So.
- 37:06Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 37:07Speaker 4: I mean, you go for the practice and then the game.
- 37:10Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, but then the.
- 37:12Speaker 3: Same as Washington, Like they're coming here for one practice
- 37:15Speaker 3: and then they're gonna have to walk through. No, there
- 37:18Speaker 3: might be, but I'm just saying I don't have to see,
- 37:21Speaker 3: you know, in terms of a mentality.
- 37:22Speaker 7: I mean, well for them, I'm just selfish.
- 37:26Speaker 3: I mean, if they if they do two practices, they
- 37:28Speaker 3: do two practices. But you know whatever, it's the same
- 37:31Speaker 3: same thing, all right, all right? What is going on
- 37:35Speaker 3: on the warming It's like an eighteen wheeler, Like the
- 37:42Speaker 3: right outside.
- 37:43Speaker 5: Of the weekend is warming up outside. They have a
- 37:46Speaker 5: concert tonight.
- 37:47Speaker 3: And when you find that ironic, Fred that the weekend
- 37:50Speaker 3: is warming up on a Tuesday.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Tuesday, get started early, you know, can.
- 37:55Speaker 4: I can I say one more thing? I just say
- 37:57Speaker 4: a lot of things, Mike.
- 37:58Speaker 3: You know, Paul and I were watching and I think
- 37:59Speaker 3: we mentioned before that we felt like Christian Barmore looks
- 38:02Speaker 3: like he's in pretty good shape. And I just saw
- 38:04Speaker 3: one play kind of stood out to me. For the
- 38:07Speaker 3: passing play, Barmore rushes the passer complete passing the flat
- 38:11Speaker 3: and Barmore peels off and pursues.
- 38:14Speaker 4: All the way down.
- 38:14Speaker 3: You know, I just that to me stood out as
- 38:17Speaker 3: a mini camp effort play. I just wrote good shape,
- 38:21Speaker 3: you know, dash energy like it just seems like he
- 38:24Speaker 3: had a lot of energy. And I was reading Mike's
- 38:25Speaker 3: transcript from yesterday and he mentioned that, you know, you
- 38:29Speaker 3: guys have seen Barmore, you know, chasing down plays or.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Something along those lines.
- 38:33Speaker 3: And I was thinking, to myself, I missed that, and
- 38:36Speaker 3: then sure enough I watched the practice today and that's
- 38:39Speaker 3: exactly what Mike was talking about.
- 38:40Speaker 4: Was the play that just mentioned.
- 38:42Speaker 7: Got right in on the backfield on beat. Mike on
- 38:44Speaker 7: went who on a pass play too? Got right in there.
- 38:47Speaker 4: Him and Milton.
- 38:48Speaker 7: Williams are like the two amigos inside there. They they
- 38:51Speaker 7: are separable and then in a good way, a lot
- 38:53Speaker 7: of those guys are coming after a lot of Yeah yeah,
- 38:58Speaker 7: I mean just the things that you can do, even
- 39:00Speaker 7: as lightning and lightening, like having those guys like you know,
- 39:02Speaker 7: draw double teams and stuff like that is just going
- 39:04Speaker 7: to make like Keon White and Harald Landry and Chase
- 39:08Speaker 7: On and those guys are just gonna have one on
- 39:10Speaker 7: ones for four straight corners.
- 39:12Speaker 4: White have a good one around the edge.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Seemed like they ratcheted up the pressure a little bit
- 39:17Speaker 3: more with like the linebackers and you know in the
- 39:19Speaker 3: b gaps and the gaps I should say double mug
- 39:22Speaker 3: looks and stuff.
- 39:22Speaker 4: So you know, they seemed like the defense was thank you.
- 39:25Speaker 4: I guess let's you know, I.
- 39:26Speaker 7: Defense I had a little bit enough of yesterday. I
- 39:30Speaker 7: think defensively, they were like all right, that's yeah. They
- 39:33Speaker 7: were doing three man rushes in the red zone and
- 39:35Speaker 7: you guys completed some passes, so we'll dial it.
- 39:39Speaker 4: Look at those.
- 39:41Speaker 5: So people are watching right now and they see the
- 39:44Speaker 5: triple box with all the camp dates right there, so there.
- 39:48Speaker 2: You go, beautiful, ye look at this good stuff all.
- 39:53Speaker 7: At once to to like, you know.
- 39:56Speaker 3: I used to be like they tell you Wednesday, Thursday, Friday,
- 40:00Speaker 3: and then he'd wait.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Well, there's some fine print underneath as subject to change.
- 40:05Speaker 4: Yeah, and you know gates opening.
- 40:07Speaker 3: Gates open at nine to fifteen, practice approximately ten fifteen.
- 40:10Speaker 3: So it's you know, now like those are the twelve
- 40:13Speaker 3: dates they're going to be, you know, scheduled to practice.
- 40:16Speaker 4: You know, it's a plant plan. Accordingly, get there early.
- 40:18Speaker 4: I'll get you, you know, pumped up with speech. They're
- 40:21Speaker 4: not still going to do that. I'm going to have you.
- 40:25Speaker 2: I'm sure they.
- 40:26Speaker 4: He's the hype man. And I'd run out there with
- 40:28Speaker 4: the finger in there him and serge.
- 40:30Speaker 5: You do some Jaws trivia right by the way he
- 40:33Speaker 5: let me die, I repriment it. I said, no more
- 40:36Speaker 5: appearances than ninety eight point five if you're going.
- 40:38Speaker 1: To perform like that.
- 40:40Speaker 5: You know, he let me down today knowing that the
- 40:42Speaker 5: license right now, Louisiana, I know, I said, Jersey, Yeah, Fred,
- 40:47Speaker 5: take my Jaws card. And then it didn't get the
- 40:49Speaker 5: second one either, h Well, which one was that one?
- 40:52Speaker 4: That was the name of the the doctor.
- 40:55Speaker 2: And yeah, the doctor that they paid.
- 40:57Speaker 4: No, No, that would be a past.
- 40:58Speaker 3: That one was impossible that, like I said to Mike Spielberg,
- 41:02Speaker 3: would have gotten out one, but the Harbormaster.
- 41:07Speaker 4: I knew that one. Frank Silva. Frank Silva. Now I
- 41:10Speaker 4: just watched it Saturday, okay, because.
- 41:14Speaker 3: You need it a sense groove text you text you
- 41:17Speaker 3: want on her, AMC. It had just started, I said,
- 41:22Speaker 3: Jaws Alert, AMC. I did do a quick impression of
- 41:25Speaker 3: right as that text came in, sitting in front of
- 41:27Speaker 3: the TV like this. So so the funny part of
- 41:31Speaker 3: that is I I had to go. You know, it's
- 41:33Speaker 3: his grad grad party season, so I had to go
- 41:36Speaker 3: to a graduation party. I watched probably the first maybe
- 41:38Speaker 3: forty five minutes of Jaws, took a shower, got dressed,
- 41:41Speaker 3: went to the party. I come back and Death at
- 41:45Speaker 3: this time is now home from work and Will is
- 41:48Speaker 3: with her and they're watching just three because it just
- 41:52Speaker 3: it just just kept going, and Will was watching Jaws
- 41:54Speaker 3: with me. It just kept watching, and they were up
- 41:57Speaker 3: to the three Diva, which was just so bad. Like
- 41:59Speaker 3: the three and that was just so bad, like especially
- 42:03Speaker 3: in the climax and like lou Gossip Juniors in like
- 42:05Speaker 3: slow motion and it's just so clearly projection.
- 42:08Speaker 4: Of a start coming out and it just stops that
- 42:12Speaker 4: it's Quade though, good stuff, good stuff. Did not see three.
- 42:16Speaker 2: I know, I never saw three.
- 42:18Speaker 7: I've never seen two.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Two was so bad.
- 42:20Speaker 4: I was like, I'm so two.
- 42:22Speaker 3: It's not anywhere near as good as the original, but
- 42:25Speaker 3: as far as like cheesy Hollywood see but it looks
- 42:28Speaker 3: like Jaws right, like I still got that smar as
- 42:30Speaker 3: cheesy Hollywood sequels go. It wasn't bad, but we was
- 42:35Speaker 3: just an abomination. Not this again, Brody, come on, like,
- 42:38Speaker 3: you know, don't he believes them?
- 42:39Speaker 4: It was so bad.
- 42:40Speaker 5: Three, Stevie writes in I was wondering how different are
- 42:44Speaker 5: the wide receiver drills compared to years past. It doesn't
- 42:47Speaker 5: look like it will translate better than years past.
- 42:52Speaker 4: They're definitely different. They're definitely different.
- 42:54Speaker 3: I think every coach has different drills, but how they
- 42:57Speaker 3: translate to the performance on the field.
- 42:59Speaker 7: Like like about the drills though, and they even the
- 43:03Speaker 7: conditioning at the end. Everything's competitive, like everything's a contest.
- 43:06Speaker 7: It's not just like we're just going through drills, like
- 43:09Speaker 7: you know, they do some of that stuff, but the
- 43:11Speaker 7: wide receivers in particular, like they're racing there, like you know,
- 43:15Speaker 7: who can get through the cones the fastest? And like
- 43:17Speaker 7: there's always some sort of back and forth.
- 43:21Speaker 4: Even the last thing they did today you talk about
- 43:23Speaker 4: that a little bit.
- 43:24Speaker 7: Yeah, that was cool. They were pushing a sled, you know,
- 43:27Speaker 7: it's like the across different Yeah, it's not even position.
- 43:32Speaker 7: It looked like they were competing, right, like who could
- 43:34Speaker 7: get the sled to the end of the of the
- 43:36Speaker 7: field the fastest, And you know, one guy would push
- 43:38Speaker 7: it as far as he could, and then the next
- 43:40Speaker 7: guy and then the next guy, and they kind of
- 43:41Speaker 7: kept building it up and like there it was gamifying. Yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 7: it was a game. Yea.
- 43:47Speaker 4: Also see that that it's not even a drill.
- 43:48Speaker 3: They just kind of all line up and then it's
- 43:50Speaker 3: like a scatter sprint where some guys are sprint into
- 43:52Speaker 3: the far corner, other guys are going.
- 43:54Speaker 4: Right across the sideline. You just see guys running full
- 43:56Speaker 4: speed a lot more for whatever.
- 43:58Speaker 3: That's worth a lot more than and I haven't seen
- 44:01Speaker 3: and I think it's probably.
- 44:04Speaker 4: Part of the whole process.
- 44:06Speaker 3: I haven't seen this much in terms of the after
- 44:09Speaker 3: practice conditioning running as we've seen in the past, because
- 44:13Speaker 3: I think they're running full speed constantly during practice. They
- 44:16Speaker 3: get they're getting their conditioning while practicing. The receivers. We've
- 44:21Speaker 3: mentioned this several times. They run full throttle all the
- 44:24Speaker 3: way to the end zone on every rep, you know,
- 44:27Speaker 3: in the pre practice sort of portion when they're running
- 44:29Speaker 3: against the air and whatnot. I don't remember seeing that.
- 44:33Speaker 3: I remember, you know, the receivers taking the ball all
- 44:35Speaker 3: the way to the end zone. You know, they might
- 44:37Speaker 3: go sixty yards all the way to the end zone.
- 44:39Speaker 3: But this is clearly one full tilt to the end
- 44:44Speaker 3: zone and it's every single guy. So if you have
- 44:46Speaker 3: five guys that are running out and only three guys
- 44:48Speaker 3: are throwing passes, all five guys are going all.
- 44:51Speaker 4: The way to the end zone full speed every rep.
- 44:54Speaker 2: I mean, that's something Rable might be saying.
- 44:56Speaker 5: It's like, if I see that you guys are going
- 44:58Speaker 5: all out during practice, we're not doing sprints.
- 45:00Speaker 4: Exactly what my hockey coaching college used to do.
- 45:02Speaker 3: We would do in between drills, you do two quick laps,
- 45:04Speaker 3: and so between every drill you'd have a sprint and
- 45:06Speaker 3: by the end you just need to a couple. So
- 45:07Speaker 3: we've had now five because we had three ot as
- 45:10Speaker 3: that we watched in two mini camp practices plus rookie
- 45:14Speaker 3: mini camp. And I would say that I saw sort
- 45:16Speaker 3: of traditional runs after after the practice is over, maybe
- 45:22Speaker 3: twice one that I can think of.
- 45:24Speaker 4: I'm saying, I'm figuring I might have missed one where
- 45:26Speaker 4: they went to the hill. Yeah, like it, you know,
- 45:28Speaker 4: just usually they just do not even to the hill.
- 45:31Speaker 4: I think they did it in the end zone, like
- 45:33Speaker 4: across the you know, across the field, shorter shorter ones.
- 45:37Speaker 3: Yeah, the one that that Drake laid Yeah, did speak okay,
- 45:41Speaker 3: speaking of false starts, by the way, that one was
- 45:44Speaker 3: he's calling the signals, he's getting a jump Oh no.
- 45:47Speaker 4: He gets a jump out, still leading right the quarter.
- 45:51Speaker 4: But talk about making something out of nothing.
- 45:53Speaker 2: He's the leader, he's halfway there, and he's.
- 45:55Speaker 4: Like, he's you know, the pace. I know when I'm
- 45:59Speaker 4: gonna saying, can you give him? You know, give it
- 46:03Speaker 4: to him?
- 46:04Speaker 8: It was, it was.
- 46:05Speaker 3: It was funny though, because a lot of people made
- 46:07Speaker 3: I shouldn't a lot of people made a.
- 46:08Speaker 4: Big deal out of it, and I was just like
- 46:10Speaker 4: to ask you a quick questions, how does this make
- 46:12Speaker 4: like him?
- 46:13Speaker 2: What about?
- 46:15Speaker 4: How does how does this Martian stuff make you feel
- 46:17Speaker 4: about it?
- 46:18Speaker 7: I don't want to talk about okay, I think.
- 46:19Speaker 4: It's great comparison to Brady, like are you happy for him?
- 46:23Speaker 7: Like I love Brad Marshan, I I have nothing nice
- 46:27Speaker 7: to say about the Bruins.
- 46:28Speaker 3: See the difference to me is I really don't like
- 46:31Speaker 3: Florida and I had nothing against the Bucks. So look
- 46:34Speaker 3: like Brady's success in Tampa didn't bug me. This is
- 46:37Speaker 3: kind of bugging me. I don't like I don't like
- 46:40Speaker 3: the Anthers, and I don't like the way the oil
- 46:41Speaker 3: is played.
- 46:41Speaker 4: The other night, is that last time.
- 46:46Speaker 7: Publicans said four goals he might win the cons mic,
- 46:51Speaker 7: he literally might win.
- 46:52Speaker 3: The co.
- 46:54Speaker 5: Pittsburgh had a question about Drake May and whether we're
- 46:57Speaker 5: seeing any signs so far that he will be doing
- 46:59Speaker 5: more instructure running this year since he does not have
- 47:03Speaker 5: the physique of a Josh Allen Jalen Hurts. Do you
- 47:06Speaker 5: think this team will be running tush push or QB
- 47:08Speaker 5: sneak type plays and are there other high percentage, low
- 47:12Speaker 5: yardage plays this team could or will run with Drake May.
- 47:16Speaker 3: It's a tough question to ask, that is, I wouldn't
- 47:20Speaker 3: say any of the You don't see sneaks in practice.
- 47:24Speaker 3: They don't run quarterbacks sneaks, especially, you know when they're
- 47:29Speaker 3: not in pads, so you wouldn't even work on like
- 47:31Speaker 3: a tush push at mini camp.
- 47:34Speaker 2: We have no idea. Do you think that I wore?
- 47:36Speaker 3: I would think that Josh McDaniels likes mobile quarterbacks. He's
- 47:40Speaker 3: never really had a chance to fully embrace one, with
- 47:43Speaker 3: the exception of the COVID year with Cam Newton and
- 47:47Speaker 3: he ran came a lot so Camelot, So I would
- 47:53Speaker 3: I would expect to see some design runs for Drake may,
- 47:56Speaker 3: especially in.
- 47:57Speaker 7: The low red zone area down by the goal line
- 47:59Speaker 7: where if he's going to keep it, he's probably gonna
- 48:01Speaker 7: hopefully like walk into the end zone and there won't
- 48:03Speaker 7: be much contact there. And if it is, it's out
- 48:06Speaker 7: in space with like a corner or something like that,
- 48:08Speaker 7: and it's not We're not talking about a head on
- 48:10Speaker 7: collision with a linebacker and the hole type of thing
- 48:12Speaker 7: like they did with Cam where he is more of
- 48:14Speaker 7: a battering ram. But I definitely think you're going to
- 48:16Speaker 7: see some of that with sneaks. I don't know. I mean,
- 48:20Speaker 7: like Paul said, we haven't done that at practice yet.
- 48:23Speaker 7: I wouldn't roll out. You know, a lot of teams
- 48:25Speaker 7: use their tight end now like a hunter, Henry, you know,
- 48:27Speaker 7: they'll put the quarterback in the gun and then the
- 48:29Speaker 7: tight end motions under center and then they snap at
- 48:32Speaker 7: the Chiefs do that with Travis Kelcey doing it in
- 48:34Speaker 7: seaid them a home, so and yeah, it's a save
- 48:38Speaker 7: the injuries so or the risk of injury. So yeah.
- 48:42Speaker 7: But the design quarterback rounds I think are going to
- 48:44Speaker 7: be in their back pocket. How much they're going to
- 48:45Speaker 7: use it.
- 48:47Speaker 4: Something we talked about a lot last year.
- 48:48Speaker 3: I think we can all get on the same page
- 48:50Speaker 3: for in the red zone where you're gonna limit the
- 48:52Speaker 3: amount of hits he's going to take. Like Evan said,
- 48:54Speaker 3: that was something we were talking about last year, Like
- 48:56Speaker 3: that's a spot work, just it's too hard for the defense.
- 48:59Speaker 3: So I would work more about him physically on scrambles
- 49:02Speaker 3: because he never pulls the plug, you know, on a
- 49:05Speaker 3: on a zone read like like Evan just explained, on
- 49:08Speaker 3: a design like you know, you're running, you know, like
- 49:11Speaker 3: you're sort of protecting yourself. It's not an ad lib,
- 49:14Speaker 3: you know, and if it's in the red zone, hopefully
- 49:16Speaker 3: you're ending up in the end zone and you're not getting.
- 49:18Speaker 4: Hit at all.
- 49:19Speaker 5: You know, you can sort of justinger what Rabel said about.
- 49:24Speaker 2: Most of the red zone plays that happened, it's one.
- 49:27Speaker 4: To one till bailout.
- 49:31Speaker 7: In part of me nodding good, mic, I would say
- 49:35Speaker 7: that's most of the plays. Forget about red zone. Like
- 49:39Speaker 7: the NFL has just turned into that, and you can
- 49:41Speaker 7: blame the guy in Kansas City a little bit if
- 49:43Speaker 7: you want, Like that's that's a lot of the league is.
- 49:46Speaker 7: You know, they have a primary read and then they
- 49:48Speaker 7: have a secondary read off of that, and then it's
- 49:50Speaker 7: just makes something happen. You know, the quarterbacks are so
- 49:53Speaker 7: athletic and they have that improv skill and all that.
- 49:56Speaker 7: You know, you can probably count on one hand the
- 49:59Speaker 7: amount of time you see quarterbacks get through an entire progression. Nowadays,
- 50:03Speaker 7: a lot of times they just don't have time. Yeah yeah,
- 50:05Speaker 7: I mean get a dodge.
- 50:07Speaker 2: But it's not like these offensive lines are you know,
- 50:10Speaker 2: the Wall and Game of Thrones.
- 50:11Speaker 7: I can definitely tell that we're gonna have some debates
- 50:14Speaker 7: about this quarterback run thing, because like I'm squarely in
- 50:18Speaker 7: the camp of he needs to run, Like if you
- 50:20Speaker 7: are going to take that out of his game, then
- 50:22Speaker 7: he's not going to be And why would you take
- 50:25Speaker 7: away that threat?
- 50:25Speaker 4: Why are we going to debate, Well, I just I
- 50:27Speaker 4: know what.
- 50:28Speaker 7: People get bothered by it because it's the risk of
- 50:30Speaker 7: injury and they don't want to get hurt. And it's like,
- 50:33Speaker 7: I get that, But if you're he that is a
- 50:35Speaker 7: superpower of his right. If you take that superpower away
- 50:38Speaker 7: and you try to make him into just this pocket
- 50:40Speaker 7: stationary pocket passer, like you're not, he's not going to
- 50:43Speaker 7: maximize his skill set. He's not. You're not going to
- 50:45Speaker 7: get the best out of it.
- 50:46Speaker 3: I would just say that if he gets blindsided in
- 50:48Speaker 3: the pocket as a stationary pocket passer and he gets hurt,
- 50:52Speaker 3: it's not going to make me feel any better than
- 50:54Speaker 3: then I will if he gets hurt running his own
- 50:55Speaker 3: read Right now, I think that the sign of progress
- 50:58Speaker 3: will be the old gains, the first down slides pops
- 51:02Speaker 3: up does the little thing. To me, it's it's the scrambles.
- 51:06Speaker 3: It's not even the zone reads like you know you
- 51:10Speaker 3: you're running and I know that he I think he
- 51:12Speaker 3: had like a forty yard touchdown run last year. You know,
- 51:14Speaker 3: and I understand those plays are possible, but hopefully the
- 51:18Speaker 3: offense progresses to a point where you won't need those
- 51:21Speaker 3: kinds of plays. And you know, if it's third and
- 51:23Speaker 3: eight and you get ten, get down, yep, you know
- 51:26Speaker 3: there's no no need to take those extra hits there. Yeah,
- 51:29Speaker 3: but I would be strongly on Evan's side debating people
- 51:34Speaker 3: that Jalen Jaydon Daniels not run. I mean, and this
- 51:39Speaker 3: is part of what makes them special. The guys that
- 51:41Speaker 3: run effectively in that league are are extra good because
- 51:46Speaker 3: of that element that they're bringing. It's not just their
- 51:48Speaker 3: passing ability. I find it so demoralizing when that happens.
- 51:51Speaker 3: We talk about it all the time over the years
- 51:52Speaker 3: of third and long. You got everybody covered and he
- 51:56Speaker 3: just gets the first down. It does a little celebrat
- 51:58Speaker 3: thing he did best last year backbreaker, just get down.
- 52:02Speaker 7: Could he get that Patrick Mahomes thing going where Patrick
- 52:05Speaker 7: Mahomes just runs just fast enough to run everybody and
- 52:09Speaker 7: you get out of bound. Yeah, he always Now he
- 52:11Speaker 7: sometimes takes dives out of bound, but often I have
- 52:14Speaker 7: no problem with that either.
- 52:16Speaker 2: You know, he he's like master unless is cheap.
- 52:19Speaker 7: He's mastered scrambling without taking hits like Patrick Mahomes truly
- 52:24Speaker 7: has mastered that, and so that that that's an element he's.
- 52:27Speaker 3: The master of frustrating, Like, you're right about that. Mac
- 52:30Speaker 3: Jones used to annoy me the way he used to
- 52:31Speaker 3: fling his body out of bounds as if he got hit,
- 52:34Speaker 3: but he didn't get hit, right, But that's the only one.
- 52:36Speaker 4: It was just mock.
- 52:37Speaker 5: Okay, Tim our friend from Duncan about the training camp days,
- 52:41Speaker 5: he said, should I assume no season ticket holder practice
- 52:44Speaker 5: this year?
- 52:44Speaker 4: No, I would not assume that. I just don't know
- 52:47Speaker 4: when it will be.
- 52:47Speaker 5: Yeah, that wasn't in the group of dates that we gave,
- 52:50Speaker 5: but if you are a season ticket member, I'm sure
- 52:52Speaker 5: they'll be in touch with you shortly about that date.
- 52:56Speaker 2: So he's also Foxborough residents as well.
- 53:00Speaker 5: Josh from Virginia writ sin, does Drake may give off
- 53:05Speaker 5: little brother energy?
- 53:07Speaker 2: What does that mean?
- 53:07Speaker 7: Well, he is a little brother, so a little bit
- 53:09Speaker 7: to his own family. Yeah, I mean I think that
- 53:13Speaker 7: that's what they like about him, is that he's the
- 53:14Speaker 7: youngest of a bunch of athletic brothers.
- 53:18Speaker 2: Is that like a puppy, Like he's a puppy with
- 53:21Speaker 2: that kind of energy? Boundless energy? Or what does he
- 53:24Speaker 2: mean by.
- 53:25Speaker 4: Tom Brady was a young brother too. He had sisters though,
- 53:27Speaker 4: so I don't know I don't know.
- 53:28Speaker 2: What it means. I just don't know what little brother energy.
- 53:31Speaker 2: You know what he wants us.
- 53:32Speaker 4: Let me try and coach.
- 53:33Speaker 6: I'll get in there.
- 53:34Speaker 7: I can do it.
- 53:34Speaker 3: Like that's I mean, not that I play I play
- 53:38Speaker 3: Bobby extra scrappy because you've always had a fight for
- 53:41Speaker 3: just playing time or like that part of it.
- 53:43Speaker 7: But it is not when they draft kind of sweat.
- 53:46Speaker 7: I'm not sure exactly when they drafted him. That was
- 53:48Speaker 7: an angle, like I was saying it was the only
- 53:49Speaker 7: reason they drafted him. But his brothers were highly successful athletes,
- 53:53Speaker 7: especially Luke May, who was like a North Carolina basketball
- 53:56Speaker 7: legend and he was always getting beat up on by
- 53:59Speaker 7: his older brother. And he's going to probably be the
- 54:01Speaker 7: best athlete out of all of them. Is the best,
- 54:03Speaker 7: I mean, is the best?
- 54:04Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 54:05Speaker 4: Doesn't want them play like basketball in japano Luke.
- 54:08Speaker 7: Yeah, But he's I mean Drake May in the NFL.
- 54:10Speaker 4: So it's a joke.
- 54:14Speaker 7: He did hit like one of the biggest shots, right
- 54:17Speaker 7: up there with Michael Jordan's game winner.
- 54:19Speaker 5: You know, uh eight five five past five hundred is
- 54:22Speaker 5: the hotline Christians in LA.
- 54:24Speaker 2: What's up, Christian? What do you have to say today
- 54:27Speaker 2: to make everyone.
- 54:28Speaker 4: Master good, Christian good good.
- 54:31Speaker 8: Hey. So on the Drake May running project, it was
- 54:37Speaker 8: surprising to me, but actually turns out statistically that Drake
- 54:40Speaker 8: May was one more efficient than Jayden Daniels in his
- 54:45Speaker 8: run too, had a better average her run than Jadeen
- 54:50Speaker 8: Daniels than three, had more closive runs than than Jadan Daniels.
- 54:55Speaker 8: I don't know when they got the batom I was
- 54:56Speaker 8: breathing and on what it was biggest today I found
- 55:00Speaker 8: hard to believe, but I gets that those are that.
- 55:01Speaker 3: I don't find it hard to believe at all. But
- 55:03Speaker 3: he was not as effective as a runner is You
- 55:06Speaker 3: can make a big part of the offense.
- 55:08Speaker 7: Case that he was the best scrambling quarterback in the
- 55:11Speaker 7: league last year.
- 55:12Speaker 2: I believe he was.
- 55:13Speaker 3: Yeah, just statistically, I would say that the difference is
- 55:17Speaker 3: Jayden Daniels ran by design.
- 55:18Speaker 4: Drake May didn't.
- 55:19Speaker 3: That's why the efficiency numbers aren't the same. But in
- 55:22Speaker 3: terms of effectiveness, Jayden Daniels was far more effective running.
- 55:26Speaker 3: He's a huge part of the It's a huge part
- 55:28Speaker 3: of the Commander's offense was designed runs by him. But
- 55:32Speaker 3: like getting getting two yards on fourth and one is
- 55:34Speaker 3: a much better run than getting thirty yards on a scramble.
- 55:37Speaker 2: Why we have a paul and they didn't result in wins,
- 55:40Speaker 2: so like.
- 55:41Speaker 4: Does not commit.
- 55:42Speaker 3: Obviously, you know that that that didn't make sense what
- 55:45Speaker 3: I just said. I just want to correct myself before
- 55:47Speaker 3: that one gets out of it gets away from me.
- 55:49Speaker 3: The thirty yards obviously is a great run. But what
- 55:52Speaker 3: I'm what I'm saying is that was a big part
- 55:54Speaker 3: of Washington's offense was Jayden Daniels's legs. It was not
- 55:57Speaker 3: a big part of the Patriots offense by It was
- 56:00Speaker 3: more by running for his life. So you could say,
- 56:04Speaker 3: like the efficiency because he averaged more more poor carry.
- 56:07Speaker 3: Sure you could have all those numbers, it wasn't as.
- 56:09Speaker 8: Good, But doesn't that get credence to the fact that
- 56:13Speaker 8: we should then begin to incorporate drink.
- 56:16Speaker 4: Mate, Christian, We're all with you. That was Evan's big,
- 56:19Speaker 4: big point to st We're all with you.
- 56:21Speaker 5: You gotta you gotta establish the threat of him running
- 56:26Speaker 5: on a design play that's only gonna be good for
- 56:28Speaker 5: the rest of the offense.
- 56:29Speaker 7: I mean, last year as Christian Buffalo, after everybody made
- 56:32Speaker 7: a whole stink about it in Arizona that they weren't
- 56:35Speaker 7: running him by design, and he had one on fourth
- 56:37Speaker 7: down where he just waltzed to a first down and
- 56:40Speaker 7: he slipped down, and it was that's what we're talking about.
- 56:44Speaker 7: We're not asking him. There weren't enough gap and like
- 56:47Speaker 7: you know, have to take on the linebacker and the hole,
- 56:50Speaker 7: like you know that. That's what Cam Newton used to do.
- 56:52Speaker 7: And Cam Newton's a totally different athlete, like we're this
- 56:55Speaker 7: is about getting him out in space and against smaller
- 56:58Speaker 7: guys and and getting them down on the ground.
- 57:00Speaker 4: Sometimes I say things that are so stupid they even
- 57:03Speaker 4: be shipped my own head.
- 57:04Speaker 3: That was one of them that we know that line.
- 57:06Speaker 3: I know, I know you know what I meant, But
- 57:07Speaker 3: I could just see that one getting out of control
- 57:09Speaker 3: on me.
- 57:10Speaker 4: Those are really dumb. Three yards, two yards, thirty yard
- 57:14Speaker 4: runs not that was that was worse than Deuce is
- 57:17Speaker 4: twelve and four. That's good. I'm gonna keep that on
- 57:19Speaker 4: the back back yard run like you. I corrected myself. No,
- 57:24Speaker 4: that's it's too many, too many. Yeah, that was a
- 57:26Speaker 4: stupid comment.
- 57:27Speaker 5: All right, So we'll end on that note on a
- 57:29Speaker 5: stupid comment. Okay, all right, So that's it for mini
- 57:33Speaker 5: camp for all intensive purposes.
- 57:36Speaker 4: They were intensive purposes and heart used to say.
- 57:39Speaker 2: Intensive purposes when I was young.
- 57:42Speaker 5: I wrote that once in an essay. It felt so stupid,
- 57:45Speaker 5: you know, got the big red mark.
- 57:47Speaker 2: It's intensive purposes. Okay, my lesson.
- 57:52Speaker 5: They'll be here tomorrow, but they won't be out practice,
- 57:54Speaker 5: and if they are, it's news to us.
- 57:56Speaker 1: We won't know.
- 57:57Speaker 2: We won't be out there with them. And then I
- 58:00Speaker 2: think rookies are hanging around a little bit.
