- 0:00Aloha. Friday morning in Hawaiʻi. Strong trade winds are moving in, and the ocean's rough on the east side. Here's what to plan around today.
- 1:44Trade winds stay steady and breezy through the weekend. Windward areas and the mountains will see the most showers, especially overnight Saturday into Sunday morning. Leeward sides—your Kona coasts—stay mostly dry. The ocean is rough on east-facing shores right now, so stick to protected bays and the calmer leeward beaches for water time.
- 2:01Surf is moderate on Oʻahu—4.5 feet on the south shore, 4.3 on the north—so watch for shore break and rip currents. Maui's running small and comfortable at 3 feet. The Big Island is glass-flat at 1.4 feet. But Kauaʻi's seeing 6.4-foot waves at Hanalei—that's experienced swimmers and surfers only.
- 2:16Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has several trail closures right now—Kīpukapuaulu due to hazardous trees, the Lava Tube Bridge undergoing replacement, and Kahuku Unit roads closed. The park itself is open. Kīlauea is at advisory status, so check the park alerts before you head out.
- 2:30If you're heading to Maui this weekend, the Made in Maui County Festival is coming up at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. It's 140-plus Maui-made businesses all under one roof—crafts, food, art, locally made goods. It's worth planning around if you want to skip the resort shops and see what island makers actually produce. Our guide breaks down what to expect and the best time to arrive.
- 2:50This weekend brings king tide conditions—higher tides that could mean minor coastal flooding in low-lying beachfront areas. Sunday the swell picks up on west-facing shores, and the windward showers continue, so leeward slopes stay your best bet for hiking.
- 3:03Our Maui guide has more on the festival and what else is worth your time. Catch you tomorrow.
